- 0:05SPEAKER_00: Go get a little deep.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: But like that's what playing offensive line is about, bro.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Like, I love that.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: It's it's tricky, it's tricky.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Like, I'll put it like this.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: What's going on, guys?
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: Orlando Brown Jr.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: here, inside the pocket.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: I'm with my brother, my dog, my pizon.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: Big league.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: Good to see you as always.
- 0:33SPEAKER_03: Always, brother.
- 0:34SPEAKER_03: Always, man.
- 0:35SPEAKER_03: Always man.
- 0:36SPEAKER_03: Listen, first foremost, thank you, man.
- 0:37SPEAKER_03: Of course.
- 0:38SPEAKER_03: I got a chance to spend my Sunday inside of the Pacour Stadium suite, right?
- 0:43SPEAKER_03: Good vibes.
- 0:44SPEAKER_03: Good vibe, bro.
- 0:45SPEAKER_03: Great vibes.
- 0:46SPEAKER_03: Great vibes.
- 0:46SPEAKER_03: Shout out to Houday Nation, too.
- 0:48SPEAKER_03: They were loud in there, man.
- 0:49SPEAKER_03: They were loud in there.
- 0:50SPEAKER_03: Um, but yeah, man, I had a blast.
- 0:52SPEAKER_03: So I uh thank you, my brother.
- 0:53SPEAKER_03: It was good.
- 0:54SPEAKER_03: It was great watching y'all play, man, and great seeing everything.
- 0:57SPEAKER_03: So we, you know, we gotta recap it.
- 0:58SPEAKER_03: We gotta talk about it.
- 0:59SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, mandatory.
- 1:00SPEAKER_03: Bengals obviously felt a two and two.
- 1:03SPEAKER_03: Talk me through it, bro.
- 1:04SPEAKER_03: Like what, you know, what how did first foremost, it was a it was a game that I felt like was very close throughout, right?
- 1:11SPEAKER_03: Felt like you guys were always in it throughout the whole way.
- 1:14SPEAKER_03: But like, what is the vibe around the team, would you say right now, man?
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, man.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: I you know, same, same as before, just in terms of you know, a lot of motivated football players, a lot of guys that uh care and and really love um one another and what we've uh started to build in our locker room.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: But it's it's always tough losing, man, especially these these last two weeks against Pittsburgh, losing at home against Jacksonville in front of our fans.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: It's it's tough.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: And when you look back on these type of games and these kind of losses, you realize how much football really is a game of inches.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: And there's a chance that we could could have came out of both of these games with a win, man.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: But it came down to a few plays here and there that that weren't made, that they made.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: And um it's it's uh it's tough.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: It's always tough to deal with.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: But to me, uh all you can do is learn from it.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: Uh you can grow from it, um, and and try to try to minimize the the mistakes that are made overall.
- 2:21SPEAKER_03: Absolutely, bro.
- 2:22SPEAKER_03: You know, I think that there's a lot of people that obviously watch these games and they have like these knee-jerk reactions, realizing like you like you said, man, football is a game of interest, but more importantly, it's a season of runs, man.
- 2:33SPEAKER_03: It is a season of runs, right?
- 2:34SPEAKER_03: It's like what like you're not you're not gonna win every single game, right?
- 2:38SPEAKER_03: And certainly you want to win every single game, but things aren't gonna always bounce your way for whatever reason.
- 2:42SPEAKER_03: What do you say to like fans that are like basically all you know jumping off a cliff, so to speak, after going two and two, man?
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, man, I it's a lot of football to be played.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: And when you really keep that perspective and understanding, I think, I think that that's just settle it a little bit more.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: Uh now, obviously, these last two weeks are tough because these are games, in my opinion, that we should have won.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: Uh, that we didn't do enough to win in.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: And that that's frustrating, and that's that's disappointing um in itself.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: But to sit here and say we're throwing our whole season away because we're two and two, it's just not gonna happen.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: It's a lot of a lot more football to be played, man.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: And uh the sense of urgency is there in the building.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: The sense of urgency is there uh from us as players, understanding what we want to accomplish and the goals that we've set for ourselves.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: And um it's all in front of us.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: But to me, when you look back on what it means to be a champion and what it takes to get to the dance and be successful in the dance, um our team, our team is is being tested.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: And and when you when you get to that point, that's what you want.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: You know, I've I've been fortunate to be a part of something like something like that, and been a part of a team that was tested throughout the course of a season, uh, whether you were able to come away with wins or losses.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: Um it's it's important though, man, that that we're battle tested, we learn from it, and for the times that we get in those positions moving forward, we're able to make the most of it.
- 4:17SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 4:17SPEAKER_03: You know what I always say, right?
- 4:18SPEAKER_03: You probably probably get annoyed at me saying it.
- 4:20SPEAKER_03: Battle tested makes war ready.
- 4:22SPEAKER_03: You know what I mean?
- 4:23SPEAKER_03: So I really believe that uh through and through.
- 4:25SPEAKER_03: But like, yeah, you know, 11 penalties that was called in that game, bro.
- 4:29SPEAKER_03: And that's so out of like character, I would say, for this team, like one of the least penalized teams last season.
- 4:34SPEAKER_03: And you get 11 penalties.
- 4:35SPEAKER_03: What do you think that's like like like like or what say from a football perspective?
- 4:38SPEAKER_03: What do the coaches, what does a Monday look like?
- 4:41SPEAKER_03: 11 penalties called at home.
- 4:43SPEAKER_03: What does a Monday look like, you know, for the entire team?
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, man, it's a shit filling.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: Because even my holding penalty, like that comes down to set discipline, uh being able to understand and react according to what's going on.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um, and a lot of it is is it doesn't necessarily even take the coaches to be call you out for something like that.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: It's just kind of understood.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: Like we we don't want to make those mistakes.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: We don't want to have a big play call back because of a mishap and uh a lack of discipline in that moment.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: Um I I think I think more so as a professional, it's it's kind of understood that it's it's something that can't happen, you know, and you and you gotta take care of business.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: So even even on my hold of penalty, man, like that's that's tough for me to deal with because I think back on that play, what I could have did differently to avoid that kind of situation um and and stand more square, being able to realize like, okay, they're probably gonna run a twist here and react improperly.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: Um, it doesn't even give a referee a chance to even think about calling something like that.
- 5:46SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 5:46SPEAKER_03: I think what I'll say, man, you know, uh to all Bengals fans that are obviously watching and stuff, is like you say, it's a long season, right?
- 5:53SPEAKER_03: You got uh obviously game against Miami coming up this upcoming week, a big game, big game, right?
- 5:57SPEAKER_03: Because no, no game is more important than the next one, obviously.
- 5:59SPEAKER_03: Yep, but then you've got the bye week coming up.
- 6:01SPEAKER_03: That's a chance for guys to to rest up, man, get right, but more importantly, a chance to kind of look inward and figure out what works, what doesn't work, and yeah, that that's what the bye week is, bro.
- 6:11SPEAKER_03: That's that's what the bye week is.
- 6:12SPEAKER_03: You know, I think we'll we'll say that for next week for us to kind of talk about because I'm curious what a bye week really is, you know what I mean?
- 6:17SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 6:18SPEAKER_03: But I what I want to talk to you about really quickly is how do you come down off of uh the high of a game like that, bro?
- 6:23SPEAKER_03: First and foremost, let me let me let me recenter that actually.
- 6:27SPEAKER_03: What does OB's game day ritual look like, right?
- 6:31SPEAKER_03: We from waking up, going to the stadium, halftime.
- 6:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah, then how do you come down from that high?
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's a lot, it's a lot.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: Like, because for me, um, preparing myself to play a game, it's a lot of mental preparation that goes into it throughout the course of a week.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: Uh, and for me, I kind of like I really don't like to peak too early.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: Uh, as a younger player, I feel like that was something I really struggle with.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: Was I would be ready to play the game on Friday and the game's not till Sunday.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: And um I I've as I've gotten older, it's something I've it's something I've you know learned is is not to peak too early.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: I want to peak at one o'clock.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: Right, right.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: Uh so I legitimately.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: So I spent a lot of time uh just visualizing, uh understanding our game plan, studying a lot of tape on what the defender I'm about to play, what is he, what is his rushes feel like, you know, what is it like when he gets off the ball fast?
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: What is his go-to?
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: What is his bread and butter and crunch time?
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: Uh studying those kind of things uh have really helped me throughout the course of my career.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: Um and then going into game day, man, like I I've I got a pretty extensive pregame warm-up where I'm dribbling a soccer ball and uh I'm pulling a sled, you know what I mean.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: Um I uh yeah, it it really helps me because I I got into the soccer ball when I was in college.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: Um I think it was my last year of college, and it really helps like warm up the nervous system because the idea of being able to track a ball with your feet and your eyes without being able to use your hands while also triggering those muscles and jogging with a soccer ball under control or dribbling a soccer ball, like it takes to me a lot of focus.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: I didn't grow up playing soccer, bro.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: So it doesn't really come easy and natural to me.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: Uh, but it it helps warm up a lot of those football muscles and that that side of the nervous system that requires you to pass protect and be ready on your toes.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, I do a little bit of uh boxing, kickboxing, like warm-up in there as well.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: Like, yeah, just just kind of getting getting my body and my hips and my hands and everything kind of working together.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: Um and then yeah, man, by by kickoff, by kickoff, I'm ready, ready to go.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: And after the games, I mean I'm I'm up for a long time.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: Like it's hard for me to fall asleep, especially after a game like Sunday that was so emotional.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was a lot of felt like up and ups and downs in that game.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: Uh, even though personally, like I take the challenge of trying to stay even killed no matter how the flow of a game goes and no matter what happens, uh, you can't sometimes you can't help but just kind of get torn into the emotion and the and the flow of the game.
- 9:17SPEAKER_03: For sure.
- 9:17SPEAKER_03: I so I've always been fascinated by that because it feels like now more than ever, halftime has been expedited so fast now.
- 9:24SPEAKER_03: You go into the half and then like what how much can really I guess get get across you can get across to the entire team?
- 9:32SPEAKER_03: How much can halftime really help?
- 9:34SPEAKER_03: What does your halftime look like?
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: A lot, man.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: Well, every every team is different but the same in so many ways.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, halftime in college football, I think is is 15 to 20 minutes.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: So for a lot of younger guys coming to the NFL the preseason, and it's like their first taste of that, where it's like, damn, halftime is just 10 minutes.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's crazy.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like whoa, like and and those 10 minutes fly by because it means literally at the start of when the clocks hit zero, zero, zero.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: So uh you get in a locker room around eight minutes or so.
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: Uh if you're in Pittsburgh, you got that long ass walk, you might get in there at seven, seven or six minutes, but pretty much it's split up offense, defense, defense goes through their adjustments, offense goes through their adjustments.
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: Uh whatever they are, if they're runs, if they're passes, if there's something, a different kind of blitz you're seeing, if you know they got a different personnel to our personnel than they have have or haven't shown.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: Um, all that stuff.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: You're paying attention to all of that.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: Meanwhile, you got guys going to take a piss.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: You got some dudes eating on crustables, you know.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: Some guys is doing all kinds of stuff.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: Me at halftime, uh, shout out Connor Lou, man.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: Connor Lou uh he makes my uh little small concoction that I take at halftime, man.
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: I two scoops of C4 and some beta alanine pills.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: So uh that's really my thing, and I'm just listening, listening to the halftime adjustments.
- 11:01SPEAKER_03: Okay, okay, okay.
- 11:02SPEAKER_03: I always wondered that because I'm like, how much could you get across?
- 11:05SPEAKER_03: You see, obviously the special teams come out and stuff like that.
- 11:07SPEAKER_03: I'm like, oh yeah, I'm like, damn, like like it's quick.
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: It's a lot.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: Like you get a lot across, bro.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: Like, and everybody different.
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: Like, I done seen dudes eat sour patch kids, like I've seen guys that have time damn near eat hot dogs and chicken tenders and fries and go out there and play.
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: Like, are you oh yeah, that was gonna be my question.
- 11:22SPEAKER_03: What's the craziest thing you've seen halftime wise?
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean the Sour Patch Kids one like really threw me off.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: I just wasn't expecting that.
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, I mean I'd have seen guys then house two or three hot dogs and go out there and play a football.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: I couldn't like it's nothing.
- 11:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I just I can't even play.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: It's not not for me, man.
- 11:41SPEAKER_03: While we got you guys here, we appreciate you as always.
- 11:43SPEAKER_03: Make sure you guys do us a huge favor.
- 11:45SPEAKER_03: Give this video a like, please, subscribe to the channel, please, and turn on post notifications so you guys don't miss when we upload content.
- 11:52SPEAKER_03: Again, we are live, we we have new episodes dropping every single Thursday morning at 9 a.m.
- 11:57SPEAKER_03: Man, we want to get into it though, bro.
- 11:58SPEAKER_03: So taking a look around the league, right?
- 12:01SPEAKER_03: Week four is almost in the books.
- 12:02SPEAKER_03: We're recording this obviously on a Monday.
- 12:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we still got Monday night football to go.
- 12:06SPEAKER_03: There are a couple unbeaten teams still around the league.
- 12:08SPEAKER_03: Want to make sure I had this correct, but you got three unbeaten teams.
- 12:11SPEAKER_03: You got the Vikings, the 49ers, and the Chiefs.
- 12:15SPEAKER_03: The Chiefs are undefeated.
- 12:16SPEAKER_03: You know, New England was the big one last night um that beat the Buffalo Bills, man.
- 12:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and you know, I think a lot of people were shocked about that.
- 12:24SPEAKER_03: I think everybody was writing the the New England Patriots off, especially Drake May.
- 12:27SPEAKER_03: But I try to say, it's uh early, it's early in the season.
- 12:31SPEAKER_03: Guys are getting out of a rut that you know, you gotta wonder how much of the Super Bowl hangover is a real thing.
- 12:36SPEAKER_03: I wonder that sometimes, you know.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, like going to the Super Bowl, like I mean, I've I need knock on someone.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: I ain't never been to the Super Bowl and lost, so like I can't relate to that.
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: Let's not, let's not, let's not, let's not, let's not.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: But I will say going to the Super Bowl is so emotional, you know what I mean?
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: It's a very emotional experience, and it takes a lot from every man in that building to get to that point, let alone win the game.
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: Um now, Super Bowl hangover, like is that a real thing?
- 13:09SPEAKER_00: Probably not.
- 13:10SPEAKER_00: But in terms of having to reset that emotional meter on how to win a football game and what it takes in the regular season, it's it's a lot.
- 13:19SPEAKER_00: And and it's like that for every team in the NFL, whether you go to the Super Bowl or not.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: Um, but New England's team to start the season for their slow start and whatever they've had going on on both sides of the ball.
- 13:33SPEAKER_00: Uh, when you watch the tape, it's a lot of that Mike Vrabel DNA.
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: They're playing hard, playing physical, the want-to, the will, the passion.
- 13:43SPEAKER_00: You know, they they like they're they're a really fun team to watch on film when you watch them play football, man, win or loss.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: Um, but it was good to see them come away with a win this, this, uh, this past week, man.
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: I'm not I'm not surprised by any of that.
- 13:56SPEAKER_00: New England will be a team in it, you know, here in January, uh, and February, man, for you know, fighting for a chance for that title again.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: I mean, they got they got all the pieces, they got a team that's a little bit more experienced and a lot of familiar faces from last year.
- 14:11SPEAKER_03: I agree with you, man.
- 14:12SPEAKER_03: I was looking at New England this uh this up this year, and I was like, man, I think a lot of people were kind of writing them off, but I felt like a lot of it was a little bit of uh that young team because they kind of got they kind of do have a young team, yeah, kind of just getting back into the groove and stuff.
- 14:25SPEAKER_03: And I thought, what better way than to beat the team that was in a lot of people's eyes running away with your division with the Buffalo Bills?
- 14:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah, right.
- 14:32SPEAKER_03: And this isn't isn't the Buffalo Bills story either.
- 14:34SPEAKER_03: The Buffalo Bills are gonna find a way to keep being top of the heap.
- 14:37SPEAKER_03: Those those are some dogs over there.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they are, they are, and they're a tough football team.
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, nobody ever wants to lose a divisional game at home.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: That's always tough, bro.
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: Like, that's that's not a good feeling, especially when you're riding high like Buffalo has been uh for the past few weeks.
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: But um, you know, they'll they'll figure out and and learn from that experience.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: But sometimes, man, football is such a flow thing, you know, and and Buffalo caught a really hungry New England team at the wrong time, you know, and and and that kind of stuff happens in the sport, bro.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: Like that's the wake-up call uh and kind of the what it takes to be a championship-like team is being able to get ahead of those kind of things, recognizing it, and being able to move forward.
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: Um, and I guarantee you, like, that's something that Buffalo will learn from.
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: Because that's a Buffalo is is a championship built, like built team, bro.
- 15:25SPEAKER_00: Like they're they're gonna be in the fight as well.
- 15:26SPEAKER_03: Man, I I agree with you 100%.
- 15:28SPEAKER_03: Josh Allen's playing early, like the MVP candidate, right?
- 15:31SPEAKER_03: Right along with Brock Purdy right now.
- 15:33SPEAKER_03: Brock Purdy playing out of his mind, 11 touchdowns, one interception on the season.
- 15:37SPEAKER_03: That's insane.
- 15:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he's been hooping.
- 15:38SPEAKER_03: Hooping, he's a true hooper.
- 15:40SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, one game that I think that shocked me a little bit last night.
- 15:43SPEAKER_03: I don't know if you got a chance to catch it, but the Carolina Panthers, yeah, Bryce Young, uh, they beat the Detroit Lions.
- 15:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah, now I just gotta say this as an Alabama guy, yeah, roll tide.
- 15:53SPEAKER_03: Just gotta say this.
- 15:54SPEAKER_03: I gotta say this, roll tide.
- 15:56SPEAKER_03: I'm so happy for my guy.
- 15:58SPEAKER_03: I'm so I'm so happy for my guy, bro.
- 16:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because again, what do we always say on the show?
- 16:03SPEAKER_03: We say, you know, when you're a quarterback and you get drafted, it's so important.
- 16:06SPEAKER_03: If you're going to draft a quarterback, make sure you put him in a situation to succeed.
- 16:10SPEAKER_03: It is so important.
- 16:12SPEAKER_03: And I thought for so so much early on in Bryce Young's career, yeah, so many people were writing him off, bro.
- 16:18SPEAKER_03: And they were like, He's not this, he's not that.
- 16:20SPEAKER_03: This is a dude.
- 16:21SPEAKER_03: Let me just put him to put it in perspective his entire life.
- 16:24SPEAKER_03: He's been an undersized quarterback, right?
- 16:27SPEAKER_03: He knows what his strengths are, yeah.
- 16:29SPEAKER_03: He knows what his limitations are.
- 16:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, every player knows what their strengths limit.
- 16:33SPEAKER_03: There's no one, there's not one player that doesn't have strengths and weaknesses.
- 16:37SPEAKER_03: They might not tell you what they are, yeah, but they're in tune.
- 16:40SPEAKER_03: That's part of making it to the highest level as a professional.
- 16:43SPEAKER_03: And I think that so many people were trying to make you know sense of his size.
- 16:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I feel like there are so many quarterbacks that we have in in our league, past and present, that have shown to overcome the size thing.
- 16:55SPEAKER_03: Maker may feel who you blocked for being one of them, yeah.
- 16:57SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 16:58SPEAKER_03: It doesn't, it doesn't matter what your what your necessarily size is.
- 17:01SPEAKER_03: If you got that dog, and if you have the ability to be a student of the game, yeah and take your game to the next level and be coachable.
- 17:07SPEAKER_03: I feel like I feel like you're gonna succeed.
- 17:09SPEAKER_00: Oh, big time, bro.
- 17:10SPEAKER_03: And so when I look at Bryce Young, I'm not shocked that Bryce has turned this corner.
- 17:14SPEAKER_03: A lot of people are shocked.
- 17:15SPEAKER_03: I was, you know, even in my company group chat, people are like, well, Bryce Young is him, he's cooking.
- 17:19SPEAKER_03: I'm like, a little bit different from the conversations I heard last year.
- 17:22SPEAKER_03: And I think so many people get caught up in, you know, this is a league right away where people want you to have immediate success right away, right away, right away.
- 17:29SPEAKER_03: And I felt like, bro, just give Bryce time because it was the whole thing.
- 17:33SPEAKER_03: He didn't have the weapons at first.
- 17:34SPEAKER_03: Now he has the weapons with Ted McMillan, so many different people there.
- 17:37SPEAKER_03: Now we're starting to see that come to life, and I guess you could you can kind of speak to it from a player's perspective, man.
- 17:44SPEAKER_03: Like, what would you say to people that have these knee-jerk reactions, especially these young players that are coming out?
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, bro, we we get too caught up in bullshit, we get too caught up in the wrong shit now.
- 17:55SPEAKER_00: Cause because a lot of times, like throughout the course of the NFL, and and you think of some of the best players all time, it's not a lot of players that came in, and we could sit here and say, yo, this dude was a Hall of Famer from day one.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's not a lot of guys, like and for those who those dudes are, they're in their own echelon, right?
- 18:14SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 18:15SPEAKER_00: But like guys like Bryce Young, who are playing a quarterback position in the 2020s, it's one of the hardest things to do is to play quarterback right now.
- 18:23SPEAKER_00: And there is a lot of things, in my opinion, that have to go right for a younger player like that, coming in with all of this pressure, being a top, top pick, you know, having a flip of organization and go through coaching changes and things like that, which he's he's experienced.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: Um, it's it's tough and it's hard to do.
- 18:42SPEAKER_00: You know, I think we kind of see it right now with Cam Ward.
- 18:45SPEAKER_00: Uh, some of the pre some of the pressure and heat he's been getting and people you know talking bad about him.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: I like personally, I mean, he's gonna be he's a player that's gonna be really good in this league for a long time.
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: And that stuff did things take time, especially when you're playing quarterback, bro.
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: Like he's he's he's kind of had and Cam Ward in himself had an interesting path to get to this point.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: Bryce Young in in himself, he he had a uh an interesting path as well.
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: But I can't say Bryce Young has been that dude on every level.
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: From you know, when you go back and you look at these guys and and I think of uh the undersized quarterback like Drew Brees, I think of hell, even Doug Floody, I think of Kyler, I think of uh Baker, you know, I I think of I think of these guys.
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: These are guys that from high school, college, NFL, they've always been a dude.
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: And so eventually they figure it out with enough time and enough reps.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: Uh and and a lot of it too is a little bit dependent on who they have around them uh from a system standpoint, you know.
- 19:47SPEAKER_00: And I think uh I don't want to butcher his name, but I believe it's it's Dave Canalis.
- 19:51SPEAKER_00: Am I saying that right now?
- 19:52SPEAKER_00: Okay, you cooked.
- 19:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, okay.
- 19:53SPEAKER_00: I'm like, I know it's Hispanic, but I wouldn't get it right.
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: But uh I love what he's doing with Bryce Young, man, because he's given him the keys.
- 20:00SPEAKER_00: He's he's allowed him to develop a quality flow of the game.
- 20:04SPEAKER_00: And when you watch the Carolina Panthers play offense, you see a team that is able to beat you up multiple ways, but also uh be dominant in certain areas when they need to and kind of keep the defensive lines really honest.
- 20:18SPEAKER_00: Like that's that's the biggest thing when I watch Carolina play offensive football, is you're not able to just tee off on them.
- 20:24SPEAKER_00: Right, you know, and and that helps a young quarterback like Bryce Young be able to have consistent flow throughout a game because just when you think it's time to tee off, they come out and they run the ball.
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and they run it from 11 personnel, 12 personnel, or 13 personnel.
- 20:39SPEAKER_00: And you know, then they line up in that same formation, and uh this time it's a drop back, you know, next time it's a play action.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: And so they keep it, they're keeping teams really honest, man.
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: And it's really it's really helped help Bryce Young and his development uh continue to move forward.
- 20:52SPEAKER_03: I agree with you, my man.
- 20:54SPEAKER_03: I think this is so important, man.
- 20:56SPEAKER_03: Buy into a player, not necessarily the draft position, right?
- 20:59SPEAKER_03: Where they where they get drafted.
- 21:00SPEAKER_03: I think sometimes we look at players, oh, they got drafted in the first round, or they got drafted first overall, they've got to they gotta perform immediately.
- 21:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, every player's gotta go through their maturation process and their learning curve, right?
- 21:12SPEAKER_03: And I think that's why it's so important.
- 21:14SPEAKER_03: Even you even think about Trevor, for instance.
- 21:16SPEAKER_03: Trevor Burrus, those conversations too.
- 21:18SPEAKER_03: You look at they paired him up with Liam Cohen.
- 21:20SPEAKER_03: We saw what Liam Cohen did for Baker Mayfield.
- 21:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, dude's a dog, and now Trevor Lawrence, one of the best better quarterbacks in the National Football League.
- 21:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's give these guys time, right?
- 21:29SPEAKER_03: It's not a bro.
- 21:30SPEAKER_03: I forgot who said it a long time ago.
- 21:32SPEAKER_03: It's not about how you got here, it's about what you do when you get here.
- 21:36SPEAKER_03: Might have been Bill Belichick that said that.
- 21:38SPEAKER_03: That being said, brings me to a great segue to my player of the week.
- 21:43SPEAKER_03: Oh, who you got?
- 21:44SPEAKER_03: Dante Meyer.
- 21:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's not about how you know how you got, it's about what you do when you get here.
- 21:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's a dude, man.
- 21:53SPEAKER_03: You you guys know the story, yeah.
- 21:55SPEAKER_03: Right?
- 21:55SPEAKER_03: He was CFL, right?
- 21:58SPEAKER_03: Ran with a chance and win the Cincinnati Battle.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: Was given an opportunity, yeah.
- 22:01SPEAKER_03: And boy, did he show up in such a big way this past Sunday?
- 22:04SPEAKER_03: It might not have resulted in a win, but you talk about be staying ready so you ain't had to get ready.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, bro.
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: Bro, through and through.
- 22:11SPEAKER_00: No, just can you guys tell me how many plays Dante had?
- 22:14SPEAKER_00: How many plays did Dante play?
- 22:16SPEAKER_03: Uh uh, yeah.
- 22:16SPEAKER_03: I'm curious on that too.
- 22:18SPEAKER_03: I know he had seven catches yesterday, I believe, right?
- 22:21SPEAKER_03: I believe he had seven catches yesterday.
- 22:23SPEAKER_03: Damn, you can fact check me on a seven catches, I believe, for 80 some odd yards.
- 22:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but you talk about a guy stepping up in such a big moment, bro.
- 22:32SPEAKER_03: You know, you said you too with uh Dante Meyer.
- 22:34SPEAKER_03: So I'm gonna go another one.
- 22:35SPEAKER_03: Mitchell Tinsley, yeah.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: I mean, two guys, bro, that like for Mitch to get cut, brought back here, and do what he's been doing, bro.
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: It's a lot, that's a lot on the mental, but it speaks to who he is, it speaks to the kind of person he is.
- 22:51SPEAKER_00: Um, Tanner Hudson, another guy that's had that had to step into a bigger role yesterday with some of the injuries we've had, you know, I on the roster, not on the roster, P Squad, and and he's the same guy every single day.
- 23:03SPEAKER_00: He shows up, he does his job, he works his ass off.
- 23:06SPEAKER_00: And these are three guys in our building that man, I got so much respect for because uh the NFL in in those roles, it's a lot of uncertainty.
- 23:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, you're you're you're in a room with Jamar Chase and T.
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: Higgins, two of the best in the world at what they do.
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: Um, and they're always featured in everything that we do.
- 23:26SPEAKER_00: So the opportunities that come your way are very slim.
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: And that's from April all the way through.
- 23:33SPEAKER_00: Yep, you know what I mean?
- 23:35SPEAKER_00: That's from that's from April all the way through.
- 23:38SPEAKER_00: And so when I when I say that, yeah, I mean Dante 68 yeah, Dante played damn near 100% of the game.
- 23:45SPEAKER_00: God damn, yeah, he damn near played 100% of the game.
- 23:48SPEAKER_00: Like for a receiver, bro, that's crazy.
- 23:50SPEAKER_00: Like, I mean, we just like for a guy in that role to be able to step in and and be be productive and and show up, uh, even on the plays where he wasn't uh featured, uh, it was huge, and that's another one of his big plays right here.
- 24:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, man.
- 24:06SPEAKER_03: Bro, time and time again, bro.
- 24:07SPEAKER_03: When he made that catch, yeah, I said, Oh my god, yeah, that was huge.
- 24:10SPEAKER_03: But running with an opportunity, yeah, like running with an opportunity through and through.
- 24:13SPEAKER_03: I couldn't be prouder for the guy, bro.
- 24:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, bro.
- 24:15SPEAKER_03: I couldn't be prouder for the guy because it is so much of this league is about being able to perform when your number is called, right?
- 24:22SPEAKER_03: And I I think you could speak to that a little bit more.
- 24:25SPEAKER_03: How important is it to be the same guy consistently day in and day out?
- 24:28SPEAKER_03: The reason why I'm talking about you is because when we had the entire offensive line on, that is what the one thing they said was about you.
- 24:33SPEAKER_03: They said OB is the same guy day in and day out.
- 24:37SPEAKER_03: You know what you're gonna get.
- 24:38SPEAKER_00: Fully embracing uh who you are and have a consistent, consistent character every single day.
- 24:42SPEAKER_00: Like that's literally you, bro.
- 24:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's literally you.
- 24:45SPEAKER_00: Like you've literally taken that really well.
- 24:47SPEAKER_00: I appreciate you.
- 24:49SPEAKER_03: Can you talk about what that type of trust gets you know, get I guess helps a uh helps a player, like the coaches will trust that player if they if they can trust that you know what this guy, no matter what, is gonna be the same guy consistently day in and day out.
- 25:02SPEAKER_00: Like this is gonna get a little deep, but like let's do it.
- 25:06SPEAKER_00: Um for me, right?
- 25:08SPEAKER_00: Like, I've I've been through a lot in life, like I've experienced a lot.
- 25:12SPEAKER_00: And something my dad always spoke to me about before I and I touched on this in that episode uh with the guy with the offensive line was uh he always talked about consistently being the same guy.
- 25:23SPEAKER_00: And I think just the way human nature works, right?
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: Like for the guy that's the same guy every single day, you kind of realize like, damn, like it's nothing I can really do to break this guy's will.
- 25:35SPEAKER_00: And man, I lost my dad at 15 years old, bro.
- 25:38SPEAKER_00: Like, that was the hardest thing at that time in life that I ever had to deal with.
- 25:44SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 25:44SPEAKER_00: The the sudden loss of of my dad.
- 25:48SPEAKER_00: It's nothing that can fucking break me, you know.
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: And that's the way that I look at it, that's the way that I treat it.
- 25:53SPEAKER_00: Um, for anybody that has something to say or any mistake that I made, you know, I'm I'm extremely self-aware and I'm fucking unbreakable.
- 26:04SPEAKER_00: Like I don't I don't give a fuck what happens or what people say or what people uh claim.
- 26:10SPEAKER_00: Like none of that has an effect on me as an overall human being.
- 26:15SPEAKER_00: Like I've experienced the worst in my opinion.
- 26:17SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: Like I've I've already I've already experienced that.
- 26:21SPEAKER_00: And so like that's just kind of the way that my mental works in in a way is like it's nobody can fucking break me.
- 26:28SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, and you add it to the fact of some other things that you know the outside world may not even understand.
- 26:34SPEAKER_00: Like, I mean, Jerry Schmidt, my strength coach at college, the University of Oklahoma, I mean, one of the most intense strength coaches ever.
- 26:44SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 26:45SPEAKER_00: And so I dealt with Jerry Schmidt, Schmidty every day, like as a young, as a young freshman coming into college.
- 26:53SPEAKER_00: And um, I just mentally, it just it really callous helped callous the mind on top of what I have already been through in my childhood and leading into my adulthood, man.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: So like I just to me, a lot of that consistent character, it it naturally builds trust in human beings because you realize like this this guy is who he is all the time.
- 27:15SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 27:15SPEAKER_00: Like it's never it's never gonna waver, it's never gonna change.
- 27:18SPEAKER_00: This guy's unbreakable.
- 27:20SPEAKER_00: Um, and as mentioned before, when people know that you're unbreakable and self-aware, um it creates a different kind of trust because you know, you know, this is a guy that like uh if you need to say something to him about something, normally he already he already has thought of thought of this or corrected that kind of mistake or is going to correct.
- 27:40SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm trying to say for sure, bro.
- 27:42SPEAKER_00: So that that's that's just kind of the way that I see it.
- 27:44SPEAKER_03: You know, it's so funny that you said that even so much in in my life as well.
- 27:47SPEAKER_03: I can talk from my perspective, you know, I I try to say that the expectations I set on myself.
- 27:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah, nobody's ever gonna set myself.
- 27:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah, who the fuck?
- 27:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, exactly.
- 27:56SPEAKER_03: I'm with you.
- 27:57SPEAKER_00: Like, what the fuck?
- 27:58SPEAKER_00: Like, I yeah, the standard you holding yourself to and the way you look at yourself, like nobody else can say anything that's gonna like, you know what I mean?
- 28:07SPEAKER_03: The little you bring you down or anything like that, and it's like bro, I like I'm I'm self-critical, I'm self-aware, I'm I'm the whole night.
- 28:13SPEAKER_03: I try to be the best at whatever it is that I do because I think that's what I what I require of myself.
- 28:19SPEAKER_03: Like, you know, um Ray Lewis had a had a uh uh quote that he gave to the speech of the Miami Hurricanes, and it it stuck with me.
- 28:26SPEAKER_03: I am not a Miami Hurricanes fan at all, but it stuck with me.
- 28:29SPEAKER_03: He says, success is between you and you, yeah, and that's my motto in life.
- 28:34SPEAKER_03: Success is between you and you.
- 28:35SPEAKER_03: You know, nobody's gonna do it for you.
- 28:36SPEAKER_03: There's no shortcuts, yeah.
- 28:37SPEAKER_03: But also being able to be self-aware, realizing, you know what, I I I got this that I want to do in life, or uh, this is a goal that I have in myself.
- 28:45SPEAKER_03: Like right now, I'm on a I'm on a goal where by the end of uh 2026, I personally want to be at 198, 195.
- 28:52SPEAKER_03: That's my personal goal that I have in myself.
- 28:54SPEAKER_03: And it's like, bro, I'm gonna work my ass off to get there.
- 28:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and you know what I mean.
- 28:56SPEAKER_03: So that's like regardless of what it is, whether it's your profession that you do, anything it is that you got going on in life, bro.
- 29:03SPEAKER_03: I you always try to deal with that mentality that, bro, the expectations you set on yourself, yeah, are between you and you, success between you and you, yeah, bro.
- 29:10SPEAKER_00: Self-awareness, dog, is like self-awareness has really, really helped me in so many ways in life.
- 29:17SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, I think even back like during my job interview going through the combine, uh every team I sat down with, every team I and I I think I met with all but maybe five, four or five teams in in the NFL for 28, 27 NFL teams I talked to, and I sat down in these formal meetings and they asked me how I was gonna test.
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I said I'm gonna be the slowest motherfucker here.
- 29:44SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm just being honest, like like don't expect me to sit here and give you guys a five-flat 40.
- 29:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's not in my DNA, right?
- 29:53SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna run it, and I'm gonna run it as hard as I can, but I'm gonna get I'm gonna give you that five eight five.
- 30:00SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, but like being real, like that's real raw self-awareness.
- 30:04SPEAKER_00: It is like shit.
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: If that's what if you're looking for the guy that's gonna run a five-flat, that's not me, and it's never gonna be me.
- 30:10SPEAKER_00: Right, but like if you're looking for the dude that's gonna be available, that's tough, that will die about this shit day in and day out, minute to minute, show up to practice every fucking day and give you everything he's fucking got.
- 30:23SPEAKER_00: Like, that's who I am.
- 30:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but I'm not the underwear athletics guy, you're gonna turn on this combine and see me run this 40-yard dash and be like, oh yeah, like self-awareness, bro, is so keen in everything that you do in life from being a parent, I see it all the time with my boys, man.
- 30:41SPEAKER_00: Uh, in my relationship, I see it all the time.
- 30:44SPEAKER_00: In my profession, what I do, like self-awareness is so important to kind of like for for people to be able to respect you and truly understand where you're coming from on things like self-awareness, dog.
- 30:55SPEAKER_00: It's like it's really helped me so much in my life.
- 30:58SPEAKER_03: How much of it is it do you think your upbringing, too, though?
- 31:01SPEAKER_03: Like where you where you grew up, I'm talking because the reason why I say that is because in a most respectful way, you embody Baltimore, like like through and through.
- 31:10SPEAKER_03: Like, I think about tank, I think about so many athletes that come out of y'all got this like will about you.
- 31:14SPEAKER_03: And I'm from Jersey, I I'm unbreakable too.
- 31:16SPEAKER_03: Maybe it's an East Coast thing, yeah.
- 31:18SPEAKER_03: It's it's a northeast thing, but bro, it's crazy, it's like this self-belief, like, bro, yeah, this shit ain't about nothing.
- 31:24SPEAKER_00: Like, like people, like that's how I see it too.
- 31:26SPEAKER_00: Like, it is it is it is a lot about who you grew up around, you know what I mean?
- 31:30SPEAKER_00: Like, like I think I and I I can't even sit here and claim the same shit as tank because I'm not from the city.
- 31:37SPEAKER_00: Like, I went to school in Baltimore County, like I grew up in beautiful neighborhoods and nice holes, but like like I spent time around you know those type of people, and that helped me understand and shape my mind for what it means to be self-aware.
- 31:53SPEAKER_00: Because the funny thing is, like a lot of those kids that were from Baltimore City that I spent time around, like they grew up a lot faster than me because there were decisions that they had to make at eight years old, yeah, that I didn't necessarily even have to make till I was you know 15, 16, you know what I'm saying?
- 32:09SPEAKER_00: Like, and they making those decisions themselves at eight years old, seven years old, and in their situations, and so that taught me to be more self-aware, man.
- 32:18SPEAKER_00: Like my dad was somebody, my mom as well, like my mom from East Cleveland, my dad was from northeast DC.
- 32:24SPEAKER_00: Like, they didn't necessarily grow up in the most privileged lives and lifestyles, and so they always talk to me about having street smarts and being street smarts, and and like that was like that was a big thing.
- 32:34SPEAKER_00: That was a big thing, like, and to be honest, I didn't really understand this shit.
- 32:37SPEAKER_00: Like, I didn't understand it, but as I've grown older, like when I when I think of somebody being street smart, I think of somebody being self-aware.
- 32:44SPEAKER_00: Yes, like that's the first thing that comes to mind for me is like when my parents were telling me to be street smart, be street smart.
- 32:50SPEAKER_00: Like, I look at that as somebody that's self-aware, that's able to look at a social setting, understand who they're around, and be able to make the most of it and not look like a fucking goofball.
- 33:00SPEAKER_03: Right, right, right, right.
- 33:01SPEAKER_03: My grandmother got wrestled, so NMA, she used to always say, Don't be a damsel in distress.
- 33:06SPEAKER_03: She used to always say, Man, don't don't don't be a damsel in distress, man.
- 33:10SPEAKER_03: That's what she used to always tell me.
- 33:11SPEAKER_03: And she used to always say, You can accomplish anything you want in this life, man.
- 33:14SPEAKER_03: Like she's like, just don't be a damsel in distress, you smart, you know, live up to that, so to speak.
- 33:19SPEAKER_03: You talk about being self-aware, right?
- 33:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so I gotta, I gotta talk to you about it, bro.
- 33:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you see social media, you see what people say on social media, which brings us to my next question, bro.
- 33:30SPEAKER_03: Do you think social media gives like fans way too much access to players nowadays?
- 33:36SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's like how do I say this?
- 33:40SPEAKER_00: Like it's it's just kind of it's it's tricky, it's tricky.
- 33:47SPEAKER_00: Like, I'll put it like this I'll say it like this like what makes football as big as it is in today's world is the fact that there is such a large social media presence about it, and there's so much attention on the like that's what makes it cool because like to be honest with you, and maybe it's just my algorithm, I ain't seen a fucking breakdown on NBA basketball or some college kid basketball, and oh my gosh, they're running the triangle offense.
- 34:16SPEAKER_00: I can't believe this shit.
- 34:17SPEAKER_00: Like, I will see breakdowns on high school football and be like, this coach is on some bullshit, they need to be calling this type of scheme, like, and that's what makes that's what that's what has made football so fucking cool is like the social media presence of everything and the intention that is garnered.
- 34:36SPEAKER_00: Now, leading into that, some people feel as though their opinions mean more than others, yes, and yes, that's the tough part about where we are with things is like just like with anything, there are a lot of people that feel like their opinions matter, and to be honest, for for what it's worth, if we're just taking a pool of a hundred people, I'm gonna say how many people's opinions really matter.
- 35:04SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna say none.
- 35:05SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 35:06SPEAKER_00: Because at the end of the day, it's what's going on in this fucking building.
- 35:08SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 35:09SPEAKER_00: Like, how does my general manager feel about me?
- 35:11SPEAKER_00: How does my head coach feel about me?
- 35:13SPEAKER_00: How does my coordinator feel about me?
- 35:14SPEAKER_00: How does my coach feel about me?
- 35:16SPEAKER_00: How do my peers feel about me?
- 35:17SPEAKER_00: Like to a player, that's all that matters.
- 35:19SPEAKER_00: Now in that pool, I'm gonna say it's probably two or three people that I would say, okay, I can respect this guy's opinion, like whether they played or not.
- 35:29SPEAKER_00: But overall, as a player, that's what's most important is how are you, how how do your coaches feel about you?
- 35:37SPEAKER_00: How do your peers feel about you?
- 35:39SPEAKER_00: Um, and it goes back to our conversation about self-awareness.
- 35:43SPEAKER_00: Uh, are you are you being real with yourself?
- 35:45SPEAKER_00: Are you being are you being your own critic?
- 35:48SPEAKER_00: And that's part of being a professional as well, is being able to fix your own problems, man.
- 35:53SPEAKER_00: Like, I I don't I don't need somebody on X or Instagram or whatever to call me out for a mistake that I've made.
- 36:02SPEAKER_00: I understand the mistake that I've made before they've even talked about it because I talked, I had that moment with myself in that moment about what the fuck I did wrong.
- 36:09SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 36:10SPEAKER_00: Like, and then you go into the film room with your coach and and you're able to correct those kind of things.
- 36:16SPEAKER_00: But uh in terms of outside, outside opinions, where we've kind of gotten with things in the world, it's it's definitely it's definitely a little weird, man.
- 36:27SPEAKER_00: I think we've and we've talked about this a little bit before, where like when you think about the access that is available now, right?
- 36:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, to think someone can have a bad play and you can go find their social media and message them.
- 36:45SPEAKER_00: Like that's that's crazy.
- 36:47SPEAKER_00: That's crazy.
- 36:48SPEAKER_00: I mean, I like could you imagine Jerry Rice getting Deion Sanders getting that?
- 36:52SPEAKER_00: Could you imagine Deion Sanders or Jerry Rice or one of these MS, one of these great players in the history of the game, like making a mistake and somebody coming up to them at a fucking CVS on the way from home or the at the gas station, putting some gas in their car?
- 37:08SPEAKER_00: Man, you play like fucking shit.
- 37:10SPEAKER_00: It doesn't happen, it just doesn't happen.
- 37:13SPEAKER_00: Like, and that's just kind of it's crazy that like people have garnered their their own opinions, I guess, on on the sport, and and and I get all of that.
- 37:22SPEAKER_00: Like it's crazy to think that like that's that's kind of where we are with things.
- 37:27SPEAKER_03: I always watch you, bro, and I always think part of it comes down to being a such a professional, right?
- 37:30SPEAKER_03: Because like the ability to like because there are some crap, there are some athletes, bro, not just football players that are crash outs, yeah.
- 37:37SPEAKER_03: Like, respectfully, I'm like, bro, it is.
- 37:40SPEAKER_03: I I know a few, and I'm like, bro, you don't want to be like tweeting at them and so on and so bro.
- 37:44SPEAKER_03: But like, I think so much of it is like I think people are so emotional, yeah.
- 37:49SPEAKER_03: I think this is such an emotionally charged day and age room, but I also think the sport is such emotional.
- 37:55SPEAKER_03: People are really invested in this jump, yeah.
- 37:56SPEAKER_00: But no, like financially too.
- 37:58SPEAKER_00: Like, yeah, gambling is at an all-time high, bro.
- 38:00SPEAKER_00: And so people are loser buddy, and they don't like loser buddy, right?
- 38:04SPEAKER_00: I don't like losing buddy, right?
- 38:05SPEAKER_00: Right, right, right.
- 38:06SPEAKER_00: I don't like loser buddy, so some of it, I get it.
- 38:09SPEAKER_00: Like this fan, like, man, fuck.
- 38:11SPEAKER_00: I had I had the over on points, man.
- 38:14SPEAKER_00: They fucked it up, right?
- 38:15SPEAKER_00: Fuck that.
- 38:16SPEAKER_00: Somebody gotta hear this shit.
- 38:17SPEAKER_00: I hear you.
- 38:18SPEAKER_00: Hell yeah.
- 38:20SPEAKER_00: Whatever your name is on the east side of Ohio, I hear you, bro.
- 38:23SPEAKER_03: Bro, it's it's crazy.
- 38:25SPEAKER_03: Like, yeah, I used to get DMs and stuff like that, but since we start doing this show, yeah, I get crazy DMs like yo, I'm like, bro, it's gonna be all right.
- 38:34SPEAKER_00: I don't respond.
- 38:35SPEAKER_00: I don't respond.
- 38:36SPEAKER_00: Well, I know.
- 38:36SPEAKER_00: Well, you know, it's it's part of it's part of the territory in so many ways.
- 38:41SPEAKER_00: Like I I've I've I've come up in the social media generation of the sport.
- 38:47SPEAKER_00: So I've seen it.
- 38:48SPEAKER_00: And and even dating back to when my dad was playing, uh, I think about some of the the instances that came up for him.
- 38:54SPEAKER_00: There was a wild card game in 2003 where um they move the ball downfield, they're in field goal range, and he gets an unnecessary roughness penalty on the defensive end, and they they end up getting out of field goal range and losing the game in the playoffs.
- 39:09SPEAKER_00: And uh I remember um I think it was Mike Preston uh wrote an article about him and it got a lot of attention and it took it was a lot on him, but at no point in time did I see my dad waver or look at that as like, oh man, I gotta retire.
- 39:24SPEAKER_00: It's just like I'm down on myself.
- 39:26SPEAKER_00: Like, he's like, fuck that.
- 39:28SPEAKER_00: Like, I know the mistake that I made, you know what I mean?
- 39:30SPEAKER_00: And so that that was my early, my early uh, I guess like um drop of it.
- 39:36SPEAKER_00: And then moving on to college where I'm at a big university and University of Oklahoma, where I mean there's millions of fans across the world, right?
- 39:44SPEAKER_00: And millions of people that went to the University of Oklahoma, and we're playing in all these big games, and so even at that time, I would get a ton of DMs on negativity and things like that.
- 39:52SPEAKER_00: But bro, at the end of the day, I really don't, I personally don't give a fuck about what anybody else has to say, right?
- 39:59SPEAKER_00: Like, and I wouldn't be on this podcast if I came right right about what anybody else has to say.
- 40:05SPEAKER_00: Because when it comes to football, for me, like I take this shit personally, you know what I mean?
- 40:10SPEAKER_00: And for every bad play that I have or any good play that I have, like I have my own mindset and mentality behind this shit, right?
- 40:16SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 40:17SPEAKER_00: And like I don't I think, and I always tell younger players this too, like, you gotta take it all with a grain of salt from the outside world, like absolutely, you know, it people gonna love on you when things are going good, you know.
- 40:29SPEAKER_00: That's what they that's what they do.
- 40:30SPEAKER_00: Like, it's like they love on you when things are going good, and when things are going bad, they gonna shit on you when things are going bad.
- 40:36SPEAKER_00: And so you take it all with a grain of salt, man, and and kind of understand that it's what comes with the territory, and especially playing offensive line.
- 40:43SPEAKER_00: You know, it goes back to my dad again, man.
- 40:45SPEAKER_00: I I gotta bring him up, but like when when I told him that I wanted to play football, and you know, he's like, You understand you're gonna have to play offensive line.
- 40:54SPEAKER_00: He broke all of this kind of stuff down to me and he said to me, like, it's a thankless position.
- 40:59SPEAKER_00: Like when shit is going bad, you guys are gonna be the ones to get blamed.
- 41:03SPEAKER_00: For sure, you know what I mean.
- 41:04SPEAKER_00: And when shit is going good, they're not even gonna fucking talk about you, they're gonna talk about everything else on the outside.
- 41:09SPEAKER_00: Right, right, right.
- 41:10SPEAKER_00: The pretty standard, yeah.
- 41:11SPEAKER_00: And and like I I love that about what I do, I love that.
- 41:15SPEAKER_00: I love that about the game of football.
- 41:16SPEAKER_00: I love that about playing left tackle, I love that about playing offensive line because at the end of the day, man, like nobody's compliments or disagreements or telling me what they do and don't like, none of that has any fucking effect on me.
- 41:31SPEAKER_00: Cause like I really love this shit.
- 41:32SPEAKER_00: And I love my fucking teammates, and I love my I love my quarterback, I love my head coach, like I love my coaches, you know what I'm saying?
- 41:39SPEAKER_00: Like for me, that's what like that's what playing offensive line is about, bro.
- 41:43SPEAKER_00: Like, I love that.
- 41:44SPEAKER_00: Like, I love the relationships that and the bonds that I've created with the men in that locker room.
- 41:50SPEAKER_00: Like, that's what that's what it means.
- 41:52SPEAKER_00: That's what matters to me, you know what I'm saying?
- 41:53SPEAKER_00: And and that's not a disrespect to any fan or anybody that wants to give out a compliment or anything like that, but like that's where like my piece in the sport is found in the respect for my peers, respect for my coaches, and respect for front offices.
- 42:08SPEAKER_00: Like, that's what that's what I'm playing this shit for at the end of the day.
- 42:10SPEAKER_03: For sure.
- 42:11SPEAKER_03: Like, I love that.
- 42:12SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 42:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, well, that's the I think that's the the the realest thing about about you, bro.
- 42:16SPEAKER_03: Like when we first talked about doing this podcast together, it was how do we want this to look?
- 42:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because like I said, like there's not a lot of people that are doing a podcast in season, like in in season of their of their uh particular sport, but you know what's gonna come with scrutiny, you know what's gonna come with people feeling this way or feeling that way, and it's like bro, at the end of the day, it comes with the territory, it does, it does.
- 42:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we just and only thing only thing we can do is just keep perspective, yes, sir.
- 42:42SPEAKER_03: That's what and that's what you're gonna get on inside the pocket is perspective.
- 42:45SPEAKER_03: So if you guys could give us your perspective and give this video a like, please subscribe to the channel and turn on post notifications so you guys don't miss when we upload content.
- 42:55SPEAKER_03: We almost are at a thousand subs on the YouTube.
- 42:59SPEAKER_03: Keep subbing, keep subbing.
- 43:00SPEAKER_03: So, if you guys you guys know how the algorithm works, right?
- 43:02SPEAKER_03: You see this video?
- 43:03SPEAKER_03: Comment something below, comment something nice, drop something nice to us, drop a question that you're gonna ask me in OB, man, and we'll get into it as we always do.
- 43:11SPEAKER_03: Now, for the fun part, man.
- 43:12SPEAKER_03: Something we want new we want to introduce, man.
- 43:14SPEAKER_03: Man, what's going on here?
- 43:15SPEAKER_03: Social questions.
- 43:16SPEAKER_03: Oh shit, it's we got some social questions, bro.
- 43:19SPEAKER_03: You know, part of when we first talked about doing inside the pocket, obviously, football is such a huge part of what we do on this, yeah.
- 43:25SPEAKER_03: But just getting an inside look on how we both think.
- 43:28SPEAKER_03: Because I'm sure it's gonna be some stuff we agree on, some stuff we disagree on, some things that we probably both didn't even think of.
- 43:35SPEAKER_03: So we got some questions, man.
- 43:36SPEAKER_03: Got some questions for you, right?
- 43:37SPEAKER_03: First question I want to ask is it's such a controversial one, but do you think men and women can truly be friends?
- 43:48SPEAKER_03: Wait on it.
- 43:50SPEAKER_03: Wait on it.
- 43:51SPEAKER_00: How do we get here?
- 43:52SPEAKER_01: How did we get here?
- 43:55SPEAKER_00: Um I like I'm gonna keep it short and simple.
- 44:00SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna say like it just depends.
- 44:04SPEAKER_00: It depends on it depends on the relationship uh of how you met that person.
- 44:13SPEAKER_00: I I do believe that like as human beings, we go through different phases of life, right?
- 44:19SPEAKER_00: For sure.
- 44:20SPEAKER_00: And there are bonds that we develop that are like strictly linear, you know what I'm saying?
- 44:27SPEAKER_00: And so yes, I guess is my answer.
- 44:32SPEAKER_00: That is such a great answer.
- 44:33SPEAKER_00: Yes, that is.
- 44:34SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna say yes, and it depends on the guy and when you when you met that friend.
- 44:41SPEAKER_03: You know, I think yes, I think yes, I think 100% you can be.
- 44:45SPEAKER_03: I think so much of society has made it weird where it's like yeah, you have to be attracted to the person that you're friends with in order you can't be friends with them, and it's like, no, man, like sometimes people are just dope individuals, bro.
- 44:58SPEAKER_03: It's just that simple.
- 44:59SPEAKER_03: Sometimes people aren't attracted to one another, and that's that's fine.
- 45:03SPEAKER_03: Like, I think that's fine.
- 45:04SPEAKER_03: But I I've got some dope female friends, bro, that are just awesome to their core, bro, that I could call on for advice, I could ask how life's going.
- 45:12SPEAKER_03: They ask about me, they check up on me, and it's kosher, it's cool, it's it's great, bro.
- 45:17SPEAKER_03: But I think I think I think it's one of those controversial questions that sometimes people bring up because it's like I think sometimes even when if you're in a relationship, it could muddy the waters because it couldn't make your significant other feel like maybe, you know, why are you friends with that person?
- 45:30SPEAKER_03: But I also think it's like you said, it depends on the people and how long you met, yeah, how I mean how long ago you met, how you met, so on and so forth.
- 45:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think it just kind of comes down to that.
- 45:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, this is a great explanation by you.
- 45:43SPEAKER_03: Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
- 45:44SPEAKER_03: You know, I can navigate the waters a little bit, you know.
- 45:48SPEAKER_03: But um here's the next question for you, brother.
- 45:51SPEAKER_03: Okay, how much is too much to spend on a first date?
- 45:55SPEAKER_03: Now I bring this up.
- 45:56SPEAKER_03: Let me give you, let me give you some context.
- 45:58SPEAKER_03: So there was a viral video that went crazy on social media.
- 46:00SPEAKER_03: Okay, now this is completely crazy.
- 46:03SPEAKER_03: Well, it was a lady, right?
- 46:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and she has kids, right?
- 46:07SPEAKER_03: She has kids.
- 46:08SPEAKER_03: Oh, see this shit.
- 46:10SPEAKER_03: She has kids, and a dude took her on a date, yeah.
- 46:13SPEAKER_03: And when it came time to order, she ordered for herself and her two kids.
- 46:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and buddy snapped.
- 46:21SPEAKER_03: He said, You see, what we're about to do is we are gonna, you're gonna take your bill and you're gonna pay for you.
- 46:27SPEAKER_03: Oh my gosh, and I'm gonna pay for me.
- 46:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, she got mad, and she basically said, If we're together, you know I have kids, yeah.
- 46:37SPEAKER_03: Well, yeah, at some point, if we're gonna be together, you know you're gonna have to take care of those kids.
- 46:41SPEAKER_03: And so it brings the question not only that, first of all, was it out of pocket?
- 46:44SPEAKER_03: I have no idea.
- 46:45SPEAKER_03: I see both sides of it.
- 46:46SPEAKER_03: I think for the first date, I don't know.
- 46:49SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm my opinion on all that kind of shit is like just communication, right?
- 46:54SPEAKER_00: Like, if you have kids that need to be fed, and I'm putting I've never been in that situation, but if if you're putting me in a situation where I'm into a woman, she has kids that need to be fed, and she communicates to me that hey, we're gonna have to get some to-go food for these fucking kids after this date.
- 47:18SPEAKER_00: I mean, I shit, I can respect it.
- 47:20SPEAKER_00: Like, I can like if I'm taking you on a date, then yeah, like shit.
- 47:26SPEAKER_00: I'm like, if you communicated that to me now, only thing I would have from a principal standpoint, don't just throw that on me and be like, damn, like, like, okay, like I probably would still cover it because I'm a good dude, yeah.
- 47:38SPEAKER_00: But like, damn, like from a principal standpoint, I'm gonna be a little fucked up.
- 47:41SPEAKER_00: Damn, what the fuck?
- 47:42SPEAKER_03: Okay, she could have finessed it better, but like she could have been like, You're so you ever seen a movie with uh Terry Cruz and uh what's it called?
- 47:48SPEAKER_03: White chicks, you know that movie?
- 47:49SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 47:49SPEAKER_03: So if you remember, she ordered the entire menu, yeah.
- 47:52SPEAKER_03: Ordered the entire menu.
- 47:53SPEAKER_03: You could have been on something like that and be like, Oh, I'll just take that to go.
- 47:56SPEAKER_03: I feel like that would have gone over a lot better because yeah, what happens when you're doing that is you're guaranteeing a second date is not happening, yeah.
- 48:03SPEAKER_03: Second date's not happening, yeah.
- 48:05SPEAKER_00: It's all about communication, dog.
- 48:06SPEAKER_00: It really to me, it's all communication, right?
- 48:09SPEAKER_03: My question to you is now like now that we got that out of the way, yeah.
- 48:12SPEAKER_03: How much is too much spent on the first date, right?
- 48:14SPEAKER_03: When it comes to it, because maybe I guess it depends on what type of type of dude you are, I guess, right?
- 48:19SPEAKER_00: It's really your financial situation, yeah.
- 48:20SPEAKER_00: That's like what is your financial situation?
- 48:23SPEAKER_00: And and that in itself doesn't cause for you to go over the top and go to extremes.
- 48:30SPEAKER_00: But um, if you are in position to go to Jeff Ruby's on the first date, and this is someone that you find attractive and into, and Jeff Ruby's is one of your favorite spots for sure.
- 48:46SPEAKER_00: And you got the means to do it.
- 48:48SPEAKER_00: I mean, why not?
- 48:49SPEAKER_00: But uh if you don't have the means to go to Jeff Ruby's and you're going to the extreme to take this person to Jeff Ruby's, I'm just not a I'm I'm not really with that.
- 48:59SPEAKER_00: But I think it's more about like what is your means look like and just kind of leaving it at that, you know.
- 49:06SPEAKER_03: Cause you could have expensive tastes, right?
- 49:08SPEAKER_03: And you could be like, well, I got the means to do it for per se, and maybe I want to go, I don't know, to a steakhouse or to a buffet.
- 49:15SPEAKER_03: I have no idea, right?
- 49:17SPEAKER_03: I just thought I just always found it like an interesting conversation because I feel like people so much put things uh on monetary value, not enough on like the person that they that they're that they're trying to be with, I guess, or trying to see if they like enough.
- 49:31SPEAKER_03: For sure.
- 49:32SPEAKER_00: I I guess it's all about perspective to your point, man.
- 49:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it is.
- 49:34SPEAKER_00: It is.
- 49:35SPEAKER_00: I I like the first date I went on, my girl was a skyline chili.
- 49:39SPEAKER_00: Like it's really yeah, back to the skyline, back to skyline.
- 49:43SPEAKER_00: No, no, no, I don't fucking halvanero cheese.
- 49:46SPEAKER_00: But like we need the habanero cheese.
- 49:49SPEAKER_00: I just think I just think it's all about like it's all about you know, just the the the timing and all of that shit, or like and what your means look like, yeah.
- 49:58SPEAKER_03: You know, oh ob is a big what your means look like kind of yeah, you know what I mean?
- 50:02SPEAKER_03: Like, right?
- 50:03SPEAKER_03: Don't don't go don't go super out there if you don't have it like that.
- 50:07SPEAKER_03: Obviously, all about perspective communication on IR.
- 50:09SPEAKER_03: So, yeah, but our last segment on the show, man.
- 50:11SPEAKER_03: We gotta we gotta talk about this, man.
- 50:13SPEAKER_03: It's it's a new segment, peak and pick of the week.
- 50:17SPEAKER_03: Shit.
- 50:18SPEAKER_03: OB, I'm gonna let you start this one off, brother.
- 50:20SPEAKER_03: Think about this.
- 50:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, man.
- 50:21SPEAKER_00: I gotta think.
- 50:23SPEAKER_00: Um gosh, obviously, like my pit is the loss.
- 50:26SPEAKER_00: Like that is fucking that shit is as low as it gets, like losing for our organization and city and you know, our teammates.
- 50:37SPEAKER_00: Like, that's my pit.
- 50:39SPEAKER_00: Um, that fucking sucks.
- 50:41SPEAKER_00: Um my peak of the week, though.
- 50:45SPEAKER_00: Fuck, what could that be?
- 50:48SPEAKER_00: Um wow.
- 50:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it does make you think.
- 50:55SPEAKER_00: It really does.
- 50:55SPEAKER_00: It really does.
- 50:56SPEAKER_00: I feel like I had a I had an overall pretty good week.
- 50:59SPEAKER_00: Um my uh my son just started kindergarten, and he's been telling me uh stories on uh kindergarten.
- 51:11SPEAKER_00: And so his new thing is um I've I've been asking him to tell me what he's uh learned in the day of school.

- 55:01SPEAKER_00: But when we talk about having a winning organization and and wanting to have championship culture, uh that's so much of that is togetherness.
- 55:11SPEAKER_00: And for the people that work in our you know kitchen and and our cafeteria, man, for them to be able to spend time with my family and my family be able to spend time with their families, like that's so valuable and and what we're trying to to build as an organization.
- 55:28SPEAKER_00: So um, yeah, man.
