- speaker-0: Welcome to the Just Us Sisters Podcast. Life doesn't speaker-1: Justin. speaker-0: come with a manual, so we made a podcast. speaker-1: Welcome to Just Us Sisters, episode 30 on our bucket list. I'm Sheryl and these are my sisters. Susan, number one, Shelly, number three, and Stacy number four. I'm excited to be talking about our bucket list because we are not talking about dying. We're talking about living. Exactly the things we still want to see, do, and experience. And maybe I can talk my sisters into doing. One last bucket list altogether. Doubt it, but maybe. All right, let's just start right off the bat. What is one thing that you've always wanted to do? I know we've done a lot of things, and we'll get into those. But what is one thing that you still haven't done on your bucket list and why haven't you? What's keeping you from doing it? Stacy, why don't you start us out? speaker-2: Like to go and there's a route that goes through the the mid more like the northwest with all of the n national parks that are so pretty up there. And I want to do that. I want to take two weeks or ten days, whatever it is, take the RV and just hit each of those national parks and and experience that. Have not done it, don't know why I haven't done it, but I am going to do that at some point. speaker-1: Well, I think if you're talking national parks, you probably need a visit with Susan. She is the experienced national park girl. Susan, what about you? Well speaker-0: Mine's not actually possibly going somewhere. It's my bucket list is I want to learn how to play in the piano. when I was in high school I played the clarinet, but I have a bucket list to learn to play the piano. What's keeping me from that? A I don't have a piano. B I don't have the time. And C I don't have the money right now to buy a piano. So once I get that piano Then then things will be different. But that's one of mine. And then just another bucket list would be traveling to Ireland. My husband found out he is ninety nine Irish and through a some type of blood test thing that he did. And ever since then we've wanted to go see his people and visit that place. So that's one of our bucket list locations. I think speaker-1: that we all should be keeping an eye out. A good used piano for Susan. And I think that's something you you should try to pursue. Shelley, what about you? Martin's speaker-3: Actually a mission trip with my husband. I've been on many mission trips prior to BA as I call it before Andy. He's been to Russia on a mission trip, but we've never been on a mission trip together. And I think that that is something that we would both very much enjoy. The reason we haven't done it up to this point is I want to be in the physical shape that I feel like I need to be in to contribute. Because a lot of the ones that we have looked at going on, you know, they're building a church or they're digging a well or, you know, and some of it is interactive with other people, but some of it's physical. And I don't want to be the weak link. And so I'm getting myself in physical condition to be able to do that and hopefully sit. speaker-1: that's that's amazing. I think you'll enjoy it. Johnny and I were talking the other day and mind, which will be his too, would be we wanna hit all fifty states before we go to the best state of all. And I think I can't remember how many we've been to and and it w when we've been to the ones together's the only ones that'll count. And so I think that we can achieve it. I don't know, we we haven't put parameters like you have to be there more than eight hours or something like that. But I think we need to be there at least overnight to count, in my opinion. Not just land and have a four hour layover. That won't count. All right, let's transition to us something you've already done. that's on your bucket list and tell a little story about it. And we'll go the opposite direction this time, Shelley. Well speaker-3: It's kind of along the lines of yours. There are approximately a hundred and ninety-three countries in the world. And I have traveled to around seven between seventeen and twenty of And I want to make it to at least fifty in my lifetime. But in addition to that, it it tags on to Sheryl's. I have seventeen states to go before I hit all fifty states, and we'll be intermingling domestic and international traveling in order to reach those goals. speaker-1: Awesome. speaker-0: Me when I started in college I took a skydiving class and I never finished it. I went to jump out of the plane. It was solo and I was very scared about jumping by myself, even though we had been trained for s eight weeks. But I didn't. And so I didn't pass. And so ten years ago when my son turned thirty, he said, Mom, you and me and my older son, Caleb, let's go and skydive and you can finish something that you started because I always told him I never did finish. That was one thing that I regret not finishing. And so we went to Rocharon, Texas, and we s we did a skydive together. speaker-4: Yeah. speaker-0: I'm going fourteen thousand feet in the air, traveling at a hundred and twenty miles per hour. Finish something we started thirty years ago. speaker-4: Are you excited? speaker-0: I'm excited and scared to death. Rory speaker-4: Are you scared? speaker-0: is speaker-3: gonna be good. speaker-4: Okay, let's see you looking good? Looking good? Whoa, dude, those are parachuting shoes. Alright. speaker-0: Did you see my shoes in the sky? speaker-4: Yep, that's the only way we we recognize you. speaker-1: Goodness speaker-4: In case you're happy. speaker-0: it was wonderful. speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-4: Yeah, speaker-0: It was so thrilling. I finished something that I started 30 years ago. And it was it just felt good. It felt good. So but that that's checked off my bucket list. speaker-1: And who knew sh Rose Sharon where you didn't know? speaker-0: I know, isn't that crazy? speaker-1: That is. Stacy. speaker-2: Mine is a tough mutter. I did a tough mutter. Casey and I signed up. We were in good shape. I've always wanted to do one and we did it. Fortunately and unfortunately, it was a weekend that it had rained all weekend and it was tough. I mean it was very tough to do. But did finish it. I think I broke my butt, but it was amazing to actually sign up for something and complete it. speaker-1: my bucket list was to go on a mission trip outside of the country. And so Johnny and I have gotten to do two. One in Cuba, which was a very good experience for us. And like Shelley said, we had to be in in good shape because there was a lot of digging. They were building a chur another church. And there it takes about four years to build a church because they don't have the tools. And so we got to take tools to them to make it easier. And then the Dominican Republic, we we built a house. And when I say house, it's not like the homes we have here. It's a a house that takes one week to build and people are very excited about a house that doesn't have electricity and doesn't have plumbing, but they are excited to move into it. The next thing I wanted to talk about was which sister is most likely to complete their whole Bucket list. speaker-0: Well, I said all of us. Yeah. And the reason why I said that is because we are all very adventuresome, all in different ways. We like challenges. And when we put our minds to something, it's gonna get done. And so if we have it on a bucket list by golly, it's gonna be done. speaker-2: Yeah. I I agree with you, Susan. I said all of us. I feel like if we put it on a list, it's gonna get done. We speaker-0: Yes, speaker-3: Determined bunch. speaker-0: yes. speaker-1: All right, so we just got back from taking our parents on one of their bucket list trips. So now let's try to think what would be a good trip that the sisters can take as a bucket list trip or if you'd even want to, and I'm not saying like next month. You know speaker-3: loved our trip to Galveston for the Dickens on the Strand weekend. And I I'm not about repeating something. I I there's so much out there. I don't feel the need to go back to a place. But something similar to that. I just the whole weekend was awesome and we had such a good time. So something similar to the Dickens on the strand weekend, wherever that might be may be. speaker-0: Maybe. I was thinking about that and I thought, you know, we we all like to help people. We all love Jesus and love to to share his love with others. And so I think like volunteering at a Samaritan's Purse mm disaster location, you know, for a weekend would be an amazing adventure because it it kind of encapsulates everything that we love. And you know, if our if I just think it would be great. speaker-2: Yeah, I don't know how you follow up to that. I'm with Shelley. I Susan, I love your idea, by the way. I want to do that, especially when I retire. I want to go from Samaritan's first place to the next. But I want to do something like we did in Galveston. That was fun. It was n it was outside of all of our comfort zones. So it it really pushed all of us. And it's it was just fun. speaker-1: Wherever y'all choose to go, I am not wearing those ugly dresses. speaker-2: mine was blue. speaker-0: What you can do. speaker-2: Ours was beautiful. Along speaker-1: True. speaker-2: with seven hundred other women on Dickens on the strand. speaker-1: Exactly. Yeah. You didn't see any not. speaker-0: One made dress. speaker-1: Okay. Mine would be I I know y'all are gonna laugh. I would love for us to travel to another country together. I think it I don't know what country, but I think it'd be fun to dri to travel internationally with my sisters and their husbands. speaker-2: That will be interesting. speaker-1: Let's shift a little bit from our bucket list about ourselves and transition into a bucket list that you'd like to do with your grandchildren and children. And I'd like to go first. I would love to take the grandsons and the kids to a mission trip because it it's such an eye opening experience how much we have in this country that we take for granted. Even I think that we even take it for granted or I do. I'm not gonna talk for ya. And I think it'd be it's it's so rewarding to do work and to talk to, you know, other people about the Lord and what he's done for us. And just, you know, people that don't know him can hopefully feel the love that we have. That is something I am going to pitch when they are all out of college because I I think right now it's just it's, you know, hard to find a week to take everybody. speaker-0: Well, and it doesn't have to be everybody at the same time. I've done I've done mission trips with the old my older two kids and then I've done a mission trip with Caitlin and then with Tom. I would like to do a mission trip with my grandkids. I don't want to take all at one time. I think that would be overwhelming for me. But I I would like to just help them to see a whole different perspective of life. Because all they know is what they see here. And I think it creates a dependency on God for them. I think it also creates an appreciation for what they have because I think sometimes we can get entitled and feel like this is what we get. And it's not. I mean, they could have been born in another part of the world and it may not have been this way. And so I I think just and just meeting people from other places in the world and seeing what it's like to be a believer in those places is a huge thing. Looks different than it does here. speaker-2: So mine's different. My goal is to get to spend as as much time as I can with all of my kids and grandkids. It's more around it's not where we are but who I'm with when it's like that. So my goal is every other summer to get all together and to ensure that we get to spend that time together. So then I don't care where we are. So speaker-3: Willing, I'll have grandchildren and I look forward to carrying on the nine year old trips one day. speaker-1: since we just got back from the trip with mom and dad and that was a big event with you know, getting on the plane and getting him over there and getting on the train and and just going everywhere on the in the van and the cars. So thinking about that trip and I'm not talking about again in the next two or three months, but in the next year or where would you like to take mom and dad together as sisters? I think I'd like speaker-3: Yeah. speaker-0: Yeah, or even, you know, back to Missouri and let them just see that area again. I know it doesn't look anything like it did when when mom had family there, but you know, remember when we took them to San Antonio, kind of a w a walk down memory lane in in December at one point and they saw their high school and their elementary school and we went by where they lived as in their childhood homes and It was just fun. Their church that they got married in. It was just a neat time for us, honestly, to see where they came from. And I I I love that history and that story behind their lives. speaker-2: Mine is to like go to Oklahoma, to Chandler Ranch, and then to Venita, and then back down through the stockyards, just to relive that experience for them. Because that means a lot to them as well. As much as it means to us, it means to them. And I think that would be a lot of fun. And any chance we get to take them to the San Antonio rodeo would be a great experience. speaker-3: Just yesterday, Dad said, Man, time sure flies. And I said, Yeah, yeah. He said, Well, you know, we were looking forward and looking forward and looking forward to the California trip and now it's done. And I thought, you know, we we need to make it a point to, you know, like Sheryl said, not in the next couple of months, but give them something to look forward to. speaker-1: Okay, we're gonna shift back to our bucket list. And just wanted to know is there a faith related experience that you still haven't done that's on your bucket list? For example, I know I think most I think most of y'all have already gone to Israel, except for maybe Stacy. That is something that Johnny and I and Michaela mentioned it the other day. We would like to go to Israel. So if you know that it can happen, we would love to go there. I know it's gotten a little a a lot more unsafe. but we'll wait till it's safe. speaker-2: Yeah. Sure, I would like to go to Israel someday. Not right now. I I don't want to be a part of that. I have a friend that lives there and we're on the phone and she has to go to the bunker and I don't want that. But that it that would be a bucket item list for me someday. Spiritually. speaker-0: It is a very spiritual experience. There was many times there that I just had to just go away. It was just overwhelming to to see the places where Jesus walked, to be on the Sea of Galilee. That really wasn't a sea. But, you know, you imagine these things in your in your mind, but to see them, it just is overwhelming. So I hope y'all get to do that someday. I would just say mission trip, you know. with the family. Think that would be a great experience for all of us. speaker-3: Sang for me. speaker-1: All right. So what are the probably the two main things left on your bucket list? I know our bucket lists are probably big, but what are the two main things that are left that you know that you can attain? speaker-0: I don't know that I can attain this, but I have we're trying to hit all the national parts and I don't know how many I've left. I'm hitting three this fall. So, you know, we just keep marking off, marking off. So it would be f hitting the national parts and then that trip to Ireland would be a huge thing that I've left to do. speaker-3: Thing is smart that Cherokee started it at 24. speaker-0: Absolutely. Yeah. speaker-2: One of mine is Casey wants to visit all of the major league baseball fields and so it's mine now. I want him to experience that and I want to do that too. So anytime we go somewhere I always try to buy tickets to the game just to get that experience in. And we've had so much fun doing that. I don't know how many we have left. I need to track it just so I n I need to know if I need to get moving on it. And then another one is that national park loop. But One I know I can do and hopefully we'll do very soon is the loop in Texas where we have all of those beautiful sites from Enchanted Rock to the salt flats and you know, all of those sites. I just I haven't been to all of those and it's here and and I wanna do that as well. speaker-3: Well, in addition to the ones I talked about, I actually want to go skydiving. Something that I wanted to do. And with my luck with that type of stuff, it it may not be in my best interest, but it is on my bucket list. If you were listening to the hobbies episode, I still want to become fluent in Spanish. And I really want to get mom and dad two or three good trips in. And then finally learn a new skill every year. I mean, just keep learning. I think that's very important. speaker-1: Sounds like to me most of your bucket list items that you want to do are very attainable. We just have to pray that we're We're still around to do God willing is what we always say. Johnny and I want to go to all the SEC football stadiums. we've already started, thanks to Noah and Aaron. We we've we've knocked out probably three or four. So that's one. And then the other one is to do a hunt in Australia. This is a new one. We started talking to people and they said that that is a lot of fun. We just think a safari would be fun. So let's go as we end this time and do a rapid fire. And we're gonna go in order. It's gonna be Susan, Shelly, Stacy, then me. All right, here we go. Beach or mountains? speaker-0: Mountains. speaker-3: Beach. speaker-2: Beat. speaker-1: Beach. Luxury vacation or road trip? Road trip. speaker-3: Luxury vacation speaker-2: Right trip. speaker-1: Road trip, cruise, or European vacation? speaker-0: European vacation, your speaker-3: European vacation speaker-2: Cruise through the European countries. speaker-1: That's exactly what I say. Adventure or relaxation. speaker-0: Adventure speaker-3: Combination speaker-2: Yeah depends, combo. speaker-1: adventure. Would you of course a couple of you already have done this, would you skydive? speaker-0: Absolutely. Encourage everyone to. Yes. speaker-2: No. speaker-1: No. Would you bungee jump? No. No. No. speaker-0: No, no. speaker-1: No. And we're talking about in this time of our life, would you sleep in a tent for a week? speaker-0: I would, but Tom would not. Yeah. speaker-3: Yeah. speaker-1: And I would not. Would you move somewhere for a month just to experience? speaker-0: Yes. Matter of fact, we even talked about doing that next summer. If I'm not absolutely speaker-1: Yeah, Shelley, that's been something that you and Mandy have always said you're gonna do. speaker-2: I like to do that. Maybe be a summer, I don't know, Colorado I don't know what they're called. Get out of Texas during the sum the deep hundred degree days. speaker-0: Absolutely. speaker-1: Yeah. Yeah. And I would too. Would you go on a spontaneous trip without knowing where you're going? speaker-0: Absolutely. Yes. speaker-1: You and Memo. And I would also. So bringing all this back together, if we sat around a table in ten years, what would you have hoped that we would have done by that point? What's one thing? speaker-0: I mean it's a bucket list, we need to get living. So I hope that we would have done it all. God willing. speaker-3: Finally though, I think that we're still getting together and spending time together. I hope that not only will you have crossed off all your bucket lists, but you've added some in in the meantime. speaker-2: Yeah, it's a to me it's about living. And if I write it on a list, I want to ensure that I go and do it. speaker-1: Well, I just thank you for the time that that y'all give us by listening to us talk about our bucket list today. Make sure that you share some of your bucket list items with us. And stay tuned for next week, episode thirty one on love languages. There you go. speaker-1: Okay. Take two. Sally's being needy today. speaker-2: it's banned. Hold on. Let me get her out. Get out. Out. Go. Go. Out. speaker-3: Maybe we can get North Korea straightened out. speaker-1: You need a speaker-0: They would not know what to do with us. No. speaker-2: We probably would not make it back from North. speaker-3: Actually you can't go to North Korea, but speaker-1: Well we know what speaker-2: I stood on aging. speaker-1: No, that's a boring speaker-0: Well we could we could bring in gas, aging gas. speaker-2: You're on the You're still on mute. speaker-3: before Andy and I g are gone because we're gone for two weeks. speaker-2: Where y'all going? speaker-3: We're going to Alb speaker-1: Wherever that is. speaker-0: On purpose? Is it with work or pleasure? speaker-1: No, it it's speaker-3: It's speaker-1: actually a beautiful place. Life is messy, meaningful, and better when shared. Be sure to like speaker-0: Yes. speaker-1: share. speaker-3: You say thank thanks for listening and Susan says be sure to like us. speaker-1: That's how it goes. You think I'm gonna remember all that? All you have. speaker-3: Do is just say thanks for listening. speaker-1: Thank you for listening.
