- 3:01Wade want to welcome to the show. Senator shelleymore Capito, Good morning,
- 3:05Senator, how are you. Good morning, Dave. I'm doing great.
- 3:07How are you? Thank you for being here. Billions, Senator, Billions
- 3:12with a B is what we're talking about here. Billions and funding coming to
- 3:15the Mountain State for broadband through this BID program. That's a broadband equity,
- 3:20access and deployment program. Largest amount of funding I understand for broadband in state
- 3:25history, possibly in the nation's history. Senator, give us the overall view.
- 3:29Talk about them. Well, this is really great news for West Virginians.
- 3:34We know that we have over two hundred and seventy thousand West Virginians that
- 3:38still are either unserved or underserved in their connectivity. And this program is part
- 3:45of the infrastructure package that I worked on, and the connectivity part of it
- 3:50has been something I've talked about for a long time with my Capitau connect.
- 3:53So West Virginia got the eleventh most dollars. We got over one point two
- 4:00billion, and the reason being is we're still left unserved. So you know,
- 4:03the good news is we're getting a lot of money. The bad news
- 4:06is we've been lagging, and so this is going to be able to connect
- 4:11that last home, that last location. We are going to have a lot
- 4:15of accountability in here. Working with the Broadband Enhancement Council. They've done great
- 4:23work at the state level to be ready for this, and so I'm very
- 4:27excited to be a part of it. I think it's going to be very
- 4:30accurate, and it's going to go to those people who actually, which is
- 4:32almost thirty percent of our state don't have service or have very poor quality service.
- 4:39And we know education, healthcare, remote tourism, everything is tied to
- 4:46Internet. Is utility now that is a necessity. Yeah, I agree with
- 4:49one of the percent. Again, we're talking about Shelly more capital and that
- 4:51was going to be my next point I was going to make with youth senators.
- 4:55I think sometimes people simply just don't understand how important brought band is and
- 5:00that reliable high speed broadband. In twenty twenty three, this is what this
- 5:04time frames too. I guess to equate it to something out of the past,
- 5:09This is this generation's water and sewage. I mean you talk about that,
- 5:15well it is. I mean when you when students are ask when they
- 5:18leave school to research a project, they're not you know, they're not looking
- 5:21at the encyclopedias like we used to. They're looking to the internet for solid
- 5:29research, or they're looking to the internet to be able to zoom with a
- 5:31teacher. Uh. If you are in a remote part of West Virginia and
- 5:35you need to see an endracnologist and you don't you can't get the transportation.
- 5:41You can do these things by m remote, but you can only do it
- 5:46if you have good service. If we're going to attract young people, we're
- 5:49never going to attract more young people into the state without connectivity. I mean
- 5:53we know that, and so that's part of the Ascend program. That's part
- 5:57of what we need to do. If you look also, I've talked to
- 6:00tourism folks and interesting, you know, everybody wants to unplug and see wild
- 6:04and wonderful West Virginia, but when they get back to their cabin, they
- 6:08want to replug in exactly and then you know people are streaming, they're they're
- 6:12no longer you know, connected on their TVs. I mean, I could
- 6:15go on and on. You'll probably add a lot to it. So it
- 6:18is a necessity. Emergency services, emergency warnings, all of these things are
- 6:24really tied to connectivity. I want to go back in history and we're talking
- 6:27to Senator Shelley Moore Capito. Senator, I want to go back in history
- 6:30a little bit, and you referenced the capitou connect This is something, as
- 6:33you mentioned, that you've been working on for quite a while. Right.
- 6:36I really realized as I began, certainly when I was running for the Senate,
- 6:41how unserved certain people are. And then and then you get into classrooms,
- 6:45and I love to go into the classrooms and I usually ask how many
- 6:47of you don't have good service at home? In a full quarter of the
- 6:51class is raising their hand. And then COVID really really hit the highlight on
- 6:56this. So one of the things I think that's really important about this program
- 7:00because I think some people are sort of skeptical, is this really going to
- 7:03be that last person connected? And what the difference this time is the mapping
- 7:10is very accurate Kelly Workman in her group, along with a lot of other
- 7:14people at the Broadband Enhancement Council, have been have been mapping every single location
- 7:18in West Virginia as to whether or not they have service or whether it's a
- 7:23poor service. And so we know accurately, we're not going to overbuild somewhere,
- 7:28We're not going to lead out certain people because we didn't know about them.
- 7:31This is this is going to be a much deeper and more granual or
- 7:35look at who has service and who doesn't. So the money will come to
- 7:40the state, uh, and then they will deploy this in a program that's
- 7:44already existing at the state to the Internet service providers with you know, we're
- 7:48going to have a plan here. We can't just get the money and throw
- 7:51it out the door. We're gonna have a very systematic plan to deliver this
- 7:55service. It's and again, I kind of want to go back to something
- 8:00that you said about the mapping. And I was listening to your interview as
- 8:03I was traveling that you did with Hobby yesterday, and you alluded to the
- 8:05fact that there have been issues in the pact and with this mapping. In
- 8:09other words, and I know that this happened. For a fact, down
- 8:13where I'm from in southern West Virginia. One area of West Virginia has a
- 8:20single family that gets broadband, and the government or the companies, whatever it's
- 8:24been in the past, commit and they say, okay, well, this
- 8:26particular hollow, or as we say in southern West Virginia, this hollow is
- 8:30connected, and that simply hasn't That's simply not true. Just because one house
- 8:37has it doesn't mean that the next fifteen of the hollow have it. Right,
- 8:39the money that went out in twenty ten, and some of the money
- 8:43that's followed that federal dollars, whether it's agriculture dollars or other has been and
- 8:48I want to get two in the weeds here has been delivered by what you
- 8:52call a census track. So you could have one hundred and fifty home in
- 8:54a census track. But if, as you said, if the first house
- 8:58at the hollow or has service, then they would count everybody as having service,
- 9:03and therefore nobody would be eligible for those fundings. And this is different.
- 9:09This is every single individual location will be determined. You will no longer
- 9:13be part of a larger group, and that I think is very subjective and
- 9:18a big difference, and I think will result in the kind of results that
- 9:22we deserve. Talk with Senators selling more capital in five eighty Live and five
- 9:26eighty Lives brought to Empire by Husbands Pizza this month that your favorite husbands get
- 9:30a large eighteen nich Pepperoni pizza and an order of Sentim advice with icing only
- 9:33twenty ninety nine. Find your local husbands at husbands Pizza dot com. Senator,
- 9:37So what's next? Where does it go from here? Well, what
- 9:39we have now a plan that we a deployment plan at the state that we've
- 9:46been working on. We've gotten some expertise with the Department US Department of Commerce
- 9:50who runs this program. So we're going to put forward a plan that's going
- 9:54to show how we're going to rese those two hundred and seventy thousand homes and
- 9:58we're going to put together are probably weighs the accountability portion of it, like
- 10:03what we're going to be asking the internet service providers to provide. You know,
- 10:07another question that comes up a lot is some people don't have internet service
- 10:11because they can't afford it. And that's true, and so there is an
- 10:16affordable Affordable Connectivity Plan that we put into effect during COVID because we realize how
- 10:22important connectivity is. And this is thirty dollars and it says basically that the
- 10:28each Internet service provider has to present a plan that's considered accurate by the FCC,
- 10:35I mean adequate and good service, and it can only charge thirty dollars.
- 10:39And for the folks that qualify for this, they would get the thirty
- 10:43dollars as a submody to be able to afford the plan. So that's part
- 10:48of this as well, and that's an essential part because we don't want that
- 10:50excuse to be I can't afford it. It has to be affordable and it
- 10:54has to be accessible. Well, certainly the biggest announcement that's come through here
- 10:58in a long time, Tim and Senator I know that you've been out in
- 11:01front of it, and Senator Mansion has as well. Um, and we'll
- 11:05probably have him on the show in in the future. I appreciate you taking
- 11:07time out of your schedule to be here. It's an exciting time for this
- 11:11in West Virginia. Senator I appreciate you being here. Thanks a lot.
- 11:13It is all right, Thank you, happy, good you as well,
- 11:16Senator Selly Moore Capital it is nine eighteen five eighty line Bryan two part A
- 11:20Boy, Generations Physical Therapy seven convenient locations along as sixty four and they're hiring
- 11:24for lightnse to technically trained staff. For more information to visit Generations pt dot
- 11:28com. Let me say this like I get it. You know this was,
- 11:31you know, a team effort. Senator Capito. Senator Mansion also,
- 11:35as I mentioned, had a lot to do with it as well. UM,
- 11:37Senator Capito's office seems to be really getting out in front of this.
- 11:41As I mentioned, I was listening as I was driving yesterday to her interview
- 11:45with Hobby, and then hours so later, I get an email from our
- 11:48office saying, can you make some time for the Senator tomorrow? UM.
- 11:52In either way, and by the way, I will say, the Senator
- 11:56Mansion has not been on the show in a while, but he's always welcome
- 12:00should he choose to come on. I'm throwing that out there to you,
- 12:03Senator Mansion. And there are those who would say, and I get the
- 12:09argument that the government has no business getting involved in this sort of thing.
- 12:13And I'll be honest with you, I'm never happy when our federal government spends
- 12:18billions, that's billions would be on a lot either. But this simply has
- 12:22to be done. As I stated earlier, broadband is to twenty twenty three
- 12:26what running water and proper sewage was in the twentieth century. And the Senator
- 12:35mentioned it. You know, we saw it during the pandemic. Online learning
- 12:39was nearly impossible, if not impossible, for a lot of kids in West
- 12:43Virginia. I mean kids having to go to McDonald's to do their homework.
- 12:48It was a thing, especially in a lot of rural areas. And I
- 12:54for one applaud Senator Capital, Senator Mansion, and anyone who helped to get
- 12:58this done. Again, I'm not crazy, but the whole idea, but
- 13:01it simply has to be done. I mean, that's just that's kind of
- 13:05where we are right now. Let me see, Texas Capito connect hasn't connected
- 13:09West Virginia to internet. West Virginia's internet hasn't gotten better because the Senator Capital's
- 13:13efforts. The only thing she's done is vote for a federal tax payer to
- 13:16help make West Virginia's internet better. It doesn't take a genius or talented person
- 13:20to make that vote Texas. We're skeptical because Capital Connect has been hot air
- 13:26and unseen guarantee since before Capito was in the Senate. Texas Elon Musk Starlink
- 13:33will be available on all of West Virginia by the end of twenty twenty three.
- 13:37My buddy has it on its farm in rural Pocahontas County. Loves it.
- 13:41But the politicians can't run around patting themselves on the back when a private
- 13:43outfit beats them to the market. Ask Capita, why Trump? Why didn't
- 13:52Trump and the Republican Control Congress enact broadman investments? Ask Capito, she worked
- 13:58on band for so long. Why didn't the deal get done before President Biden's
- 14:03leadership? As Capita, why didn't now? This is the same text her,
- 14:07by the way, as Capito, why I didn't now, explaining Carol
- 14:09Miller do anything to help bring broadband investment to West Virginia. Our internet says
- 14:20a texture is one hundred twenty dollars a month. Basic services ninety dollars according
- 14:24to a text. And I'm going to throw this out here too, because
- 14:28you know, I never get I never don't take advantage of the opportunity.
- 14:31I never will not. I don't know what I'm trying to say. What
- 14:35I'm basically trying to say is Shelley Moore Capital mentioned one of my fellow Logan
- 14:39County and Zarah Kelly Workman, who has done a fantastic job she in her
- 14:43office in doing this mapping thing. So any opportunity I get to propel a
- 14:48fellow Logan County and like Kelly Workman out there, I certainly will. She
- 14:52has done a fantastic job in this. All right, it's nine twenty three.

- 18:30Good morning brother. How are you. I'm fantastic and let's talk to
- 18:33the equally fantastic Adam Harris. Good morning everybody. Alright you man, Adam
- 18:37of Mountain Stage and wrestling fame, because we're talking about the wrestling show.
- 18:41By the way, this Regotta update is brought to you by Selango Law Results
- 18:45matter called Selango Law, Charleston's personal injury law firm. All right, Tim,
- 18:51let's talk. Let's start with you from the from the CVB standpoint out
- 18:55of the gate. Last year, there were skeptics about how big of an
- 18:57attraction there Regotta would be since it's been gone for so long. We're coming
- 19:03off COVID over two hundred thousand people on how many millions later, it looks
- 19:07like it was a hit. Yeah. I mean you're talking about a thirty
- 19:08million dollars impact over about five days last year, sold out hotels, uh
- 19:14thirty plus million dollars in economic impact to the Charleston region. It was an
- 19:19enormous success, and I think it was the confluence of a lot of things.
- 19:22It was. It was post COVID, there was a lot of pent
- 19:26up desire to get out and do stuff. There was this, uh,
- 19:30this sense of nostalgia, this desire for for the city to bring back regatta.
- 19:34It was an undercurrent of the mayor's campaign. So it was just this
- 19:40perfect storm of uh, this really great weather over five days and just an
- 19:45amazing event last year that was really this, this dynamic team effort to pull
- 19:52off. And now we're looking at year two and it's like, how do
- 19:55you build upon that? So let's let's roll up our sleeves and get to
- 19:57work. At what point, Tim, did you folks start looking at the
- 20:00regatta prior to the actual event last year and think this is going to bring
- 20:04a lot of money into Charleston the surrounding areas. Were you even surprised by
- 20:07it? I mean, I know this is what you do for a living
- 20:10as you make projections. But but were you even surprised by it to turn
- 20:12out and the and the money that came in? Absolutely? And I think,
- 20:15honestly, I think right up until day one last year, everybody was
- 20:19kind of sitting on their hands thinking, what if we did all of this
- 20:22and it's it? And what if you throw a party in noting down right,
- 20:27but enough about my childhood. But what if you throw a party and
- 20:30nobody comes the Dave Allen Stores, ladies and gentlemen on Lifetime next weekend?
- 20:34Um, No, it's it was night one. It was night one,
- 20:38ever clear, and and you looked out over the boulevard and you went,
- 20:42oh boy, here it comes. If this is night one, strap in
- 20:48because of the next three or four days are going to be a wild ride.
- 20:52Yeah, yeah, indeed, I make no mistake about it, Tim.
- 20:55The regatta was good for South Charleston, it was good for Cross Lanes,
- 20:59It's good for the Days Valley. And that's one of the things that
- 21:02we talk about at the Convention of Visitors Bureau. I know that this mayor
- 21:06and her administration feel the same way. And even beyond the borders, of
- 21:10Charleston and Kanall County into Putnam County and Cabell County. What's good for one
- 21:15is good for all. You know. The cliche is that a rising tide
- 21:17raises all boats. But what we say at the Visitors Bureau is tourists don't
- 21:21care about municipal boundaries. If they came in and they stayed in South Charleston,
- 21:25that's great, that's good for them. And if they aid in South
- 21:27Charleston, or they stayed in Charleston and aid in South Charleston, vice versa,
- 21:30it doesn't matter. It's good for all of us. And we want
- 21:34the entire valley to succeed, and regod is good for the whole valley.
- 21:38Let's talk about the impact with the downtown restaurants and bars and things of that
- 21:42nature. You know, talking to some of the restaurant owners after the event
- 21:47last year, they said that it was for some of them, it was
- 21:49their best day ever. For most of them, it was their best day
- 21:52in years. It brought people to town and they weren't just down on the
- 21:57boulevard and the Regatta footprint, but they were all over the city and they
- 22:00were they were dining on Capitol Street, but they were at Capital Market.
- 22:03They were uh, they were in Kanas City, they were on the west
- 22:07side, on the East end. Um. People and and we track some
- 22:11data, some third party cell phone data so that we can see people movement
- 22:15when when we have large events in town and during Regatta, people were all
- 22:18over the city. Indeed. Um, So how are we looking for this
- 22:22year? I know it's the sixty four million dollar question, but how but
- 22:26let's talk about this year? What do you think of you know, this
- 22:29year? I think we've got a great music lineup. Um, the weather
- 22:32looks like it's it's it's lining up to be really really great. Well,
- 22:34when you put a meteorologist as chairman, it doesn't hurt, you know.
- 22:37So yeah, that's that's true. And I think that was a tactical mood
- 22:41right um uh uh. Also Also, i'll due respect to the president of
- 22:47the Regatta Commission, my former boss a, Lisa Bailey. She's the she's
- 22:51the she's the head of the commission, not not Brian. Yeah okay,
- 22:55but anyway, I kid um, but yeah, I mean, the weather
- 22:57looks nice, the music line up is great, the the other events that
- 23:02are happening throughout the city. You're talking about Winer Dog Race, as you're
- 23:04talking about the carnival, you're talking about the car show, the beer festival,
- 23:10all of these events we learned lessons from last year so that we think
- 23:12everything's going to be better. And then of course the marquee event of the
- 23:17weekend Saturday afternoon three pm City Center Slack Plaza, the Stern Wheel Slamboree,
- 23:22and also the Chief branding Officer, Adam, let me get this in here
- 23:27before we talk to you about the wrestled Advent five eighty Live is presented apart
- 23:30by Travis Willard. You're Edward Jones Financial Advisor just off the Tay's Valley Axe.
- 23:34Learn how Travis and this team can help you reach your financial goals as
- 23:37at Edward Jones dot com or called Travis at three oh four three nine seven

- 23:45for your Edward Jones Financial Advisor, Travis Willard, Edward Jones member sip s.
- 23:48All right, Adam, let's swing the conversation for a minute over to
- 23:52wrestling. Bring the best talk about this big get wrestling. By the way,
- 23:56you had a text waiting on you about the wrestling show. I'll get
- 23:59to it here momentarily, boy, but let's talk about this whole wrestling thing.
- 24:03How does this whole thing come about? I mean was there last year,
- 24:06but bigger and better this year. First of all, we have to
- 24:07say congratulations of the mayor and Tim and everybody who put on an amazing event
- 24:11last year. They made history by bringing the Regatta back and they were included.
- 24:15They included professional wrestling last year. And we're gonna make history again this
- 24:18year with the first of its kind of event, the first Sternwell Slambury,
- 24:22and we're gonna crown the first ever Regatta champion. Really, yeah, how's
- 24:26that gonna happen? I mean it's it just gonna be like a tournament or
- 24:27well, there's been a couple qualifying matches at local promotions and what ended up
- 24:32happening is we've actually have the Powerslam Academy's Grand Champion, Troy Parker is challenging
- 24:37against the ASWX Division Champion, Josh Williams of the Working Class and that's going
- 24:42to be the deciding contest and it's actually going to open the show. So
- 24:45bring your chair and get there at three pm for Belli on Saturday. Saturday,
- 24:49Adams to true Vincewickman promoter. He puts he puts the headline match on
- 24:53first. His main event goes first. We're starting hot that actually has like
- 24:57three main events, a lot of main events. I got a text that
- 25:00was waiting on you when you got here about this, and I have to
- 25:03admit, you know, I didn't ring announcing for thirty some odd years,
- 25:07but I've been out of it for a couple of years. But someone asked
- 25:10me to ask you why Troy Parker had to earn his way into the Regatta
- 25:15Pro Wrestling championship match while his buddy Josh Williams was just handled a spot because
- 25:18of his connections. It's just like a little wrestling angle we got going here
- 25:22because I have no idea who these people are, so go ahead. May
- 25:23be one of the organizers, but I have no idea what went on when
- 25:27Bishop Baylor from the working Class went into the City Hall. There's a video
- 25:32on our instagram. If you fell at Regatta Pro Wrestling, you can see
- 25:34that video. All I know is Bishop Baylor walked in and walked out and
- 25:37the match was made. Okay, who he talked to city Hall is yet
- 25:42to be determined, and they don't tell me these sort of things. I
- 25:45just know that it ended up. The contracts were signed and Josh Williams is
- 25:48challenging Troy Parker. Well, let me ask you this, who else would
- 25:51you want representing Regatta Pro Wrestling than someone from the working class? I mean
- 25:56you talk about let me tell you something. When Saturday is over, I
- 26:00predict that the working class will leave there with gold. Well, the working
- 26:03class earned their way in because of their skill in the ring. Let me
- 26:08tell you something about Bishop Baylor. Not only does he have the look,
- 26:11I mean, would you want to meet Bishop Baylor in a dark alley?
- 26:12You know? So he's also got it between the ears. So he knew
- 26:15how to get his guy into that man question. And that's what he did.
- 26:18He walked into city Hall, knew what he needed, and he walked
- 26:21out with exactly what he means. And I have to say, you know,
- 26:22Hollywood, Jeff Petty, my producers like the biggest wrestling fan in the
- 26:26world. He's like a kid in a candy store in here. Now he's
- 26:27like holding up signs and the whole deal. I think I think, I
- 26:30think, Jeff, we just guaranteed you're gonna be part of the show,
- 26:33Is that right? I mean there's a there is a possibility. I am
- 26:34working on a sign in here right now to just go ahead and all right,
- 26:37right, I like it, and you can have a ringside seat as
- 26:41far as I'm there. You go, Hollywood, there you go. All
- 26:44right, I'm going to Coop after this and we're going to talk. Yeah.
- 26:45I think he just quit his job. He's supposed to work this weekend,
- 26:48so and I want the wrestling show. I want to make sure to
- 26:51shout out our friends. Full disclosure. Parmar is our presenting sponsor. We
- 26:53thanks to them. We also brought on nine hundred on Lee as one of
- 26:56our major sponsors. And then also thanks to a Walking Time who is bringing
- 27:00in the Godfather WW legend for a signing that's gonna go down at Five Street
- 27:04Brewery and then he's gonna be at the Stern will Slambury as well at WW
- 27:08Hall of Famer and then also Bully Trap Barbershop sponsored as well, and so
- 27:12we couldn't do it without them, and also the support of the CVB Charleston
- 27:15CVB. I mean, in the regatta itself just goes on because of all
- 27:19the people who work behind the scenes, city services, electricians, everybody from
- 27:23top to bottom makes this stuff happen. Yeah, and I said that,
- 27:26you know, kind of at the top. And I'm glad you said that
- 27:29again, Adam, And it's it's good to reiterate. I mean, it's
- 27:30a team effort, right. I mean, we can name check individuals,
- 27:34but but truly you talk about a team effort. Regatta is the definition.
- 27:38And certainly the city service, all of the city employees from parking, the
- 27:45parks and rack, police, the sanitation, the public works. It's it
- 27:49takes the entire team to pull off an event of this magnitude. We like
- 27:56to say somebody has to make this nonsense happen. Not talking about the Regatta
- 28:00in general, right, Free And Adam, I want to go back to
- 28:03you because I know you're a long time pro wrestling than a certain radio host
- 28:07here may have had something to do with you getting your break in the business,
- 28:11but now, I mean, as far as I'm concerned, you're you're
- 28:12the top guy in as part of the country. I mean, I've seen
- 28:15your work and you're very because here's what people don't understand about wrestling, and
- 28:18I did it for so many years. Is the announcer is not just a
- 28:22guy that gets up and says and in this corner you reliant because you don't
- 28:25have with these wrestling shows. You don't have television for for for some you
- 28:30do, but for the most but now you do have access through YouTube and
- 28:33things that nature. But they don't have a weekly television show to tell stories,
- 28:36that's right. So it's up to the announcer to basically catch people up.
- 28:40Okay, you maybe weren't at the last show. You don't know that
- 28:42this happened, and what's the why is the scaffeating with this guy and so
- 28:45on and so forth, and and that's what you do. So well,
- 28:47that's right. Well, thank you man. I appreciate that a lot,
- 28:48and I'd take the job seriously, probably more than most would. But you
- 28:52know, and you have to a lot of people are hearing these names for
- 28:55the first time. You know, some of these people have been seen on
- 28:56ww television before, some of them haven't, and so you have to really
- 29:00kind of introduce them through their introduction and you're saying their name for the first
- 29:03time. And I think about it all the time because a lot of these
- 29:06guys wrestle once on the card, but the ring announcer gets to be a
- 29:08part of every match. I'm a part of all eight matches, you know,
- 29:11every time, and so it's exciting for me. And I like to
- 29:14service the wrestlers. I like to make sure that they're happy with their with
- 29:17their introductions and make sure I get everything right because it's very important to them.
- 29:19Because of that audience reaction, Like you were saying, all right,
- 29:22Tim, I got a question that was text in here. As popular as
- 29:25the Easton yard sale is, would you consider having a large regotta yard sale
- 29:29on the Saturday morning starting next year? You could get people sign up to
- 29:33sell. It would bring an even bigger crowd on Saturday morning to visit restaurants
- 29:36or food trucks staying there after the shopping for the carnival, etcetera, etcetera.
- 29:40You know, we'll take that under advisement. Yeah, neat, we
- 29:44love we love sales. Well, here's the thing about it, what I
- 29:48have what I've discovered though with the folks with this forgot and then again,
- 29:51this is only your second year. You don't get everything right the first time
- 29:53around. You if you do this twenty years in a row, as they
- 29:56did, in a past. You're not going to get everything right every year,
- 29:59so you rely on the public to say, hey, this work,
- 30:02this didn't work, my family didn't really enjoy this. We we did like
- 30:04this, and I know that you folks listen to him Tom. Yeah,
- 30:07And that's the that's the beauty of an event like regatta. You know,
- 30:11there's certainly they're going to be the staples. You're always going to have the
- 30:14main stage entertainment. You're always going to have the carnival, you know,
- 30:18anchor events like the Winner, Doll Grace, the funeral Parade, the stern
- 30:21Wheel, slamboree um. But then what else do people want? What what
- 30:26didn't work this year? And what can we do next year that that people
- 30:30may dig and really get into. Um. So it's sort of this nebulous
- 30:33concept, right, So you know you have your anchor events, but sure,
- 30:37I mean there's always room to to change the schedule, add things,
- 30:41drop things. So uh, certainly the yard sale would would some would be
- 30:45something we would take under advisement. I just have to manage my stock,
- 30:48my inventory because I sell out at it. I sell out at the East
- 30:52End yard Sale, so I'd have to hold some inventory back for the Regatta
- 30:56sale. Well in Charleston's the kind of place where if somebody see he's a
- 31:00need or a hole or a place to fill something, they'll come to you
- 31:03and they'll say, hey, listen, here's an idea I had, let
- 31:04me help organize or something like that. This is that kind of town where
- 31:08the right people are standing by to help, and often they step up.
- 31:11Often they find their own sponsors. Often they'll say here, let me lead
- 31:14the team. And that's kind of what we did with the stern Will Slamboree.
- 31:17And I hope it becomes an anchor event. If this goes well and
- 31:18the fans turn out, you know, we should have this every year.
- 31:22And that's a That's another great point, Adam, and that is you know,
- 31:23you look at some of the events that are regattas Staples and I've mentioned,
- 31:29you know, the Wiener Dog Race, and I've you know, the
- 31:30Funeral Prede, the Classic Car Show. People have stepped up, the Great
- 31:36Rubber Duck Race. People in organizations have stepped up and they run their events.
- 31:40So not only do people come with ideas, but then they do the
- 31:44work. Yeah, I mean, it's one thing to have an idea but
- 31:45you have to have somebody do the work, and Charleston is a great town
- 31:48for for people to stop up and do the work. Tim, I'm so
- 31:52glad you got that mention of the of the of the duck race, because
- 31:56yesterday Margaret, when I had Brian Hughes on, Margaret O'Neill from the United
- 31:59Way was texting me, you know, say, don't forget about the duck
- 32:00race. Don't forget about that, right, make sure we get the duck
- 32:01class. I hope Margaret's listening, because I would never ever forget about the
- 32:07great Rubber Duck Race. I mean, it's all part of the of the
- 32:09regards. There's just so many things we're gonna be spending time. As I
- 32:12said, every day this week. Tomorrow we're going to talk about the entertainment
- 32:15and Adam, you know, um, your your other job and your shoot
- 32:17job has to do with music. Of course, you're the executive director whatever
- 32:22your title is of the King of Mountain Stage. Uh. And so actually
- 32:27what his business cards says the tournament you just throw Larry Gross over the top.
- 32:32Might do Larry Gross, You're not gonna do. Kathy Matake enjoyed me.
- 32:37Help me get to the top. But but but let's talk about this
- 32:39entertainment. And again we're gonna spend time talking about it tomorrow. But I
- 32:42mean, you've got flow Rider, uh you, You've got Jody Messina,
- 32:45You've got Cool in the Gang, You've got better than Nasra. I mean,
- 32:49there's some quality, quality acts coming this year, for sure. Yeah,
- 32:52for sure, they did a great job booking this year. And even
- 32:54the the you know, the leadoff act on Friday Night is gonna be Redline.
- 32:58I mean, I'm sorry, on Saturday Night is a red Line and
- 33:00followed by flow Rida and flow Rida had some interactions with Heath from the WWE
- 33:05when he was appearing a few years ago. They actually had a WrestleMania moment
- 33:08together. So I hope that flow Rider knows the stern will Slam Marie is
- 33:13happening, and you know, you never know, you might even see Heath
- 33:15up on stage with flow Rider later. That bell comes back to wrestling always,
- 33:19it always does. Yes, sir, you talk about Redline. I
- 33:21also would be remiss if I didn't talk about Kate Boytech taking the stage before
- 33:25Jody Messina. Of course, Dave, you know Kate, She's taking over
- 33:30a Logan's biggest personality. Actually, we're actually working on stealing Kate, Like
- 33:35we're calling her Charleston, West Virginia. But Kate just shot her first music
- 33:42video in Charleston. She's been doing some ambassador work on behalf of the Charleston
- 33:45CBB. Her album is outstanding. She's just as a person, just aces
- 33:52like top notch five star person And she takes the stage before Jody Messina and
- 33:57I can't wait, And she's gonna be my host this Friday because I have
- 34:00to do a different host every Friday, and so she's going to be the
- 34:02guest host on the show is Friday, which just happens to me the day
- 34:06that her video makes its world premiere on CMT. I think Dave finally found
- 34:10a way for me to listen to his radio show. It's like all this
- 34:14time, It's like all this time, All right, guess we gotta go.
- 34:16Tim Where can people get a complete rundown of all the events? I
- 34:20mean, because there's so many things going on. I mean, just throw
- 34:22out website, social media, website. Every morning, let me pull up
- 34:25my notes from Tina Stensons. Everything we all worked for, tinabout it.

- 38:05good morning, how are you hire? They're doing? Good? Good morning?
- 38:07Uh you know you're following up Tim Brady and Adam Harris talking about wrestling
- 38:09there, so you got you got a tough road to home, man,
- 38:14oh man. They they were enticing about the various Forganda offering and they made
- 38:20fun of you. So what's not to love? Brad. I want to
- 38:23get back to the broadband announcement from yesterday, um, but before that,
- 38:28the governor is on the end. This morning he had gallbladder surgery, pretty
- 38:32routine surgery from want to understand, no complication. Jeff Jenkins has a story,
- 38:36no pictures, just a story posted on the website. What do you
- 38:38know about the governor's condition right now? Just that he's out for a bit?
- 38:43What What the governor's office described was that around Thursday he started having some
- 38:50some discomfort symptoms and his medical team advised him that it would be a good
- 38:55idea to get that gallbladder removed. It's, you know, something that a
- 39:00lot of people go through. It is fairly routine surgery. I am now
- 39:04an expert because I googled gallbladder this morning, and in my minute and a
- 39:09half of reading, I learned that you don't necessarily need your gallbladder, Yeah,
- 39:15but it is helpful to have. Yeah. Yeah, it's kind of
- 39:16like the appendix. You don't really need it, but it's there if you
- 39:20wanted. I guess I don't know. Well, we certainly wish in the
- 39:22best. Let's move on to get your take on the broadband announcer from yesterday.
- 39:27Senator Mansion was all over. Senator Capital was on this show earlier and
- 39:30was on Hoppy yesterday Billions Brad with Bay. That's a lot, right,
- 39:36And you know, the question I was getting on my social media in response
- 39:40to the reaction was well, where is this going to be? Is it
- 39:44going to go to the communities in West Virginia that are already sort of the
- 39:50haves or where will it be? And so I pose that question to Senator
- 39:54Mansion and he had his press briefing in conjunction with US Commerce Secretary Gina Romando,
- 40:01and they both said, meant for everybody that the mapping that has been
- 40:07done, the detailed mapping of unserved and underserved areas, along with the sheer
- 40:12amount of money quarter two point five billion dollars nationwide, West Virginia is getting
- 40:16one point two billion dollars of that. West Virginia is one of nineteen states
- 40:22receiving more than a billion dollars. And it's probably in funding that's that's meant
- 40:27to stretch out to every every hollow, out every creek in West Virginia and
- 40:32over time up to the year two thousand and thirty, a lot more connected
- 40:37than is right now. Well, it certainly is the hope and and Brad.
- 40:43I've said this time to time again, those of us here in the
- 40:45Kanal Valley we kind of take quality internet for granted. I normally have no
- 40:49issue with mine, but oddly enough, I an internet's very important for my
- 40:53wife and I have since we both do a lot of work from home.
- 40:55Oddly enough, woke up this morning, left the house, I learned there
- 40:58was a widespread outage and takes. I do understand that it's back on now,
- 41:01but that isn't the case everywhere in West Virginia where my stepmother lives in
- 41:07Logan County. Now, granted it is a holler, but it's not much.
- 41:10It's not that much of a holler that it should be that big of
- 41:14an issue. She doesn't have broadband or even cell phone coverage, and when
- 41:17it rains, her landline doesn't work either, So if it rains, she
- 41:23has no telephone service landline. This is twenty twenty three folks that should have
- 41:28been taken care of well. Capital made some great comments about the need for
- 41:35school kids. I mean, in many cases books are not necessarily in the
- 41:38poor of books anymore, that you're meant to just download what you need,
- 41:43and so kids need the broadband for their education. Entrepreneurs, small businesses need
- 41:50to be able to connect. West Virginia is making marketing effort toward trying to
- 41:57get people to move to the state to do remote work, to enjoy West
- 42:01Virginia's beauty and amenities, but to be able to connect to do their jobs.
- 42:07And so a lot of reasons that, you know, the places in
- 42:12the sort of central backbone of West Virginia need to be even more connected than
- 42:15they are. I know a lot of people have a question, well,
- 42:19how are we going to assure that this money goes to good use? Its
- 42:22one point two billion dollars, And I will admit to you, Dave,
- 42:28I don't know the specific answers to that yet, trying to figure that out,
- 42:31but both Commerce Secretary Romando and Senator Capital specifically mentioned being careful with the
- 42:40money and making sure that it's used for what it's meant to be well,
- 42:44And as Hobby alluded to yesterday on the show, as I was listening Brad
- 42:47in West Virginia, we don't always have necessarily the greatest track record on these
- 42:52things. I mean closets full of servers going back to what was a twenty
- 42:55ten or something like that. So hopefully that won't be the case this time
- 42:59around. Quickly, Brad, I had canaugh Undy Commissioner Ben Silango on the
- 43:01show last week, and he says, who'll make an announcement about it?
- 43:05Possible gubernatoria run sometime around the fourth of July holiday. What are you hearing
- 43:09about him or others of anything? Huntington Mayor Steve Williams certainly sound like someone
- 43:14who was going to run for governor when he spoke to a Juneteenth gathering in
- 43:17Huntington. What about what Senator Manson is going to do? What's the story,
- 43:21old glory? What do we got? Oh my gosh, Well,
- 43:23everybody's keeping me guessing you're right that I think. Steve Williams announced to a
- 43:30crowd during that Juneteenth weekend that he intends to run the Democratic mayor of Huntington.
- 43:37What Selango had previously said Commissioner Selango was that he had hoped not to
- 43:42engage in an expensive primary where you know, the Democrats with limited resources might
- 43:49be up against each other before taking on whoever the very formidable, formidable Republican
- 43:55nominee might be. But at this point, if if Selengo and we and
- 44:00Is both intend to run, it does match up that way. You know,
- 44:02I see what they're saying. They don't want to spend whatever their dollars
- 44:07are before they get to the general election. But you know, to me,
- 44:10I see somebody without primary election competition and that they are not in the
- 44:15news, they are not having their debate points owned. I think it's healthy
- 44:21to have primary competition as well and then be sharp and ready and already the
- 44:27subject of attention by the time you hit the general All right, well,
- 44:30we'll keep a close on and know you will as well. Brad, I
- 44:32appreciate it. Well, we'll talk to you soon. Thanks a lot.
- 44:35Man oh U asked, what man will do? I don't. Yeah,
- 44:38I have a great day. Okay, thanks Brad mcahaddy. It's it's nine
- 44:43fifty two. Jeff. What we're gonna do is Jeff Petty I'm talking about.
- 44:46I got too many Jeffs in here. Before we take the break,
- 44:50I want to bring in Jeff Jenkins from the news from because of the Jeff
- 44:52this Jeff is really really busy today, Jeff, A horrific story out of
- 44:54Montgomery this morning. What do we know, Well, it happened early this
- 44:58morning. Two men were shouting, killed and so folks familiar with Montgomery's on
- 45:02State Route sixty one, just kind of down toward us past the Family Dollar
- 45:09there, so real close to the Canal Fat County line. But it's fed
- 45:14County's call and obviously Montgomery Police's call. So two men were shot and killed.
- 45:19No arrest have been made. Chief Parish workman who says it appears to
- 45:23have been drug related. I think there were some drugs found at the scene.
- 45:28The names of the men who were killed, those have not been released
- 45:31as of yet. So it's a it's a it's an active investigation right there
- 45:35on the main drag route sixty one, and happened again just a couple of
- 45:40minutes after midnight, so key time of the investigation, of course, first
- 45:45few hours trying to trying to piece some things together. Workmen said they've had
- 45:49have had some drug problems in that area. In fact, I was remembering
- 45:52a story from back in May where they you know, there there was an
- 45:55attempted robbery at the family dollars. So you know, just just different issues
- 46:01there, but active investigation. Two people dead, all right, and stories
- 46:06posted on the website. Jeff, No, you'll be working on I appreciate
- 46:08it man. Thanks a lot, all right, Jeff Jenkins from the news

- 51:00for the record, the Trump administration put forward nearly seventy million dollars for
- 51:05broadband in West Virginia through the FCC Rural Digital Opportunity Fund, says. The
- 51:10text or texture also says of note today Williams talking about Steve Williams, mayor
- 51:15of Huntington, defunded his city's broadband effort by more than one million dollars last
- 51:21month, according to a texture. I cannot verify that, but that's what
