Transcript
- 0:00Hardfall game both teams. You know,
- 0:01there's a lot of Auburn people here.
- 0:03That's uh still a great fight either
- 0:05way. A&M people here. Gig them. Great
- 0:08win.
- 0:12>> I don't know if they
- 0:14>> Okay, just the the decision at the end
- 0:17there on the free throw to try to miss
- 0:18an was that discussed in the huddle and
- 0:22just your thoughts on the final few
- 0:24seconds back in game?
- 0:25>> Yeah, I mean the game's over if there's
- 0:27not a clock malfunction. They have no
- 0:28timeouts. So, you know, at home, we we
- 0:30may consider making that. But with the
- 0:32continuation rules in college
- 0:34basketball, you cannot foul under five
- 0:36seconds. Can't foul under five seconds
- 0:38now because there's continuation. So, if
- 0:40we go up three and we foul, we can't do
- 0:42it. So, they're going to get a half
- 0:43court he off. They're going to get the
- 0:45same a better heave off if they can
- 0:46throw it in on the baseline out of
- 0:47bounds. Right? And you got to ask
- 0:49yourself in that game, the way that was
- 0:51going, did y'all think we had an
- 0:52advantage? They had an advantage in
- 0:54overtime. Do we have a better advantage
- 0:55to win it right there with them having
- 0:58to catch it and shoot a 80-footer the
- 1:01way it should have been or if they could
- 1:03throw it in, have an opportunity to make
- 1:05a three and then there's overtime. It's
- 1:07going to be a tough win in overtime for
- 1:08us. But they had no timeouts.
- 1:12So that that's got to get corrected
- 1:14right there just with what happened at
- 1:16the clock because the only if we thought
- 1:18there's any way for the game to be
- 1:19stopped with a review or with the the
- 1:22clock went too early which what they
- 1:23were saying that's the only way for the
- 1:25game to be stopped. It's the only way we
- 1:26could lose the game pretty much unless
- 1:28they're going to make a a 75-footer and
- 1:31um so anyway we didn't cover the last
- 1:32play well. We should have been tight or
- 1:34we're trying not to foul but maybe we
- 1:35covered it really well. There was enough
- 1:37time to get it off so maybe that's the
- 1:38best thing you can do. Um, but I thought
- 1:40the officials in the situation, I think
- 1:42they knew the situation that if it was
- 1:44close, it had to go our way based on
- 1:46what had just transpired the play
- 1:47before.
- 1:49>> Coach, believe the deficit was 16 for
- 1:51you guys at one point in the second
- 1:53half. What led to the the turnaround to
- 1:54to make a comeback like that and
- 1:56ultimately went on road?
- 1:57>> Well, I mean, 16 for us isn't much.
- 1:59We're a high variant team. We shoot a
- 2:00lot of threes. We play a lot of guys. We
- 2:02play fast. We get up and down. We're a
- 2:03second half team. Um, we've been winning
- 2:06these second half the majority of the
- 2:08year once we got in shape and started
- 2:09understanding our identity to who we
- 2:11are. We obviously shot the ball better.
- 2:13We got our offense going better and uh,
- 2:15we turned up our defense. They're a good
- 2:17team. They weren't going to quit. So,
- 2:18um, is what it is.
- 2:20>> Coach, welcome back to the state. Oh,
- 2:22man. You've been a part of these crazy
- 2:24games, but what's going through your
- 2:26mind during this that last shot? What
- 2:29about the resilience of your team? Yeah,
- 2:31I mean the last shot was unbel it was
- 2:33unbelievable everything that had gone on
- 2:35up to that but just because I could not
- 2:37believe the game was not over. I just
- 2:40couldn't believe all of the sudden I
- 2:41look up and there's a sideline out of
- 2:42bounds like that was with no timeouts.
- 2:45That was that was crazy. And um you know
- 2:49I mean that that you never see that or
- 2:52you never would elect to do what we did
- 2:53in that scenario. But um end of the day
- 2:56I don't want to take away make it one
- 2:57play or not. Our guys fought hard
- 2:59tonight and uh played good basketball.
- 3:01Look, we're playing good right now. We
- 3:02we we've lost arguably our best player,
- 3:04Mackenzie Bako. He missed the first uh
- 3:07start of the season. Two of our three
- 3:08losses been without him. And um right
- 3:11now, we've won 10 of our last 11. Our
- 3:14only loss was to SMU, a top 25 team in
- 3:16overtime. So, that's what I care about.
- 3:17We're keep playing good basketball.
- 3:20>> Like you mentioned, you spent a lot of
- 3:22time playing a lot of games in the
- 3:23state. Would this one, you know, this
- 3:25being your first time back? Was this one
- 3:26a little extra special for you? It felt
- 3:28good. I mean, I got good memories here.
- 3:29We won a lot of high school games here.
- 3:30We won some college games here. I like
- 3:32the people of Auburn. I got a lot of
- 3:33good friends here. I got to see before
- 3:34the game. Uh, the Pearls mean a lot to
- 3:36me. I've had my players play here at
- 3:38Auburn. I like the university. Um, but
- 3:41I'm at Texas A&M. I'm going to fight
- 3:43with my guys, but I wish them luck when
- 3:45we're not playing. Glad we don't have to
- 3:47play them again.
- 3:50>> Is there anything else for coach?
- 3:55>> Coach, I just want to ask you about real
- 3:56quick about um Bob Isaac, uh, how how
- 3:59much does he contribute to this team and
- 4:01how's he grown through this year?
- 4:03>> Well, if you if you those who catch&m
- 4:05fans may know this, but you know, we we
- 4:07had Embako was out start season. Pop
- 4:10Isaac had a hip surgery, then a meniscus
- 4:12surgery, wasn't playing at the start of
- 4:13the season. Didn't play basketball for
- 4:14almost a year and came back right around
- 4:17the Oak State game. Shell of himself as
- 4:20anybody would be because he didn't
- 4:21played for a year. And now he's been
- 4:24able to practice and he's getting his
- 4:25rhythm back. And I think that's the Pop
- 4:26Isaacs that you can uh you can see more
- 4:28on the regular. And what you did get to
- 4:31see though with Embako was out early and
- 4:33Pop was out early and not playing as
- 4:36many minutes. These backups got a lot of
- 4:38experience. And you know, some of those
- 4:40guys that may have not had a ton of
- 4:42minutes uh early that may not had a ton
- 4:44of minutes tonight, they were
- 4:46experienced minutes because they played
- 4:47some early in the season. And that was
- 4:49huge to hold it down when we're subbing.
