- 0:06Speaker 1: It's often said that people of Utah speak a language
- 0:09Speaker 1: all their own. It's a language that's often confusing and
- 0:13Speaker 1: even incomprehensible to newcomers here in the Beehive State. So
- 0:17Speaker 1: Radio from Hell presents a handy guy to help everyone
- 0:21Speaker 1: understand how the natives speak. It's the Utah word of
- 0:24Speaker 1: the day, and today's.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Word is well.
- 0:27Speaker 3: You'll no doubt hear many Utah words during the following
- 0:30Speaker 3: conversation between the former mayor of Mona, Utah, Don Krittle
- 0:34Speaker 3: and his young son Denver neddy.
- 0:37Speaker 4: Nddy, how come you're getting in so late? Mama's already
- 0:41Speaker 4: put the thupper away, thmear to faith with cold cream
- 0:45Speaker 4: and drifted off to dreamly.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Well a darned city council meeting. He just ran on
- 0:51Speaker 2: and on. Now you When I was mayor, I didn't
- 0:56Speaker 2: let that kind of thing happen. I wasn't afraid to
- 0:59Speaker 2: use the gabbl well to speed the proceduring along. I
- 1:03Speaker 2: kept things moving, either by banging the gavel real horde
- 1:07Speaker 2: on the table to end discussion, or banging the gavel
- 1:10Speaker 2: real hard on Athan Nelson's thick skull so we could vote.
- 1:14Speaker 4: I think that might be why old Atha didn't run
- 1:16Speaker 4: for a second term on the council. If doctor said
- 1:18Speaker 4: that them meetings was probably the source of all those
- 1:21Speaker 4: terrible headaches he was.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Getting, well that could have been. I suppose, hey, could
- 1:26Speaker 2: you heat me up some supper? Denver, what did your
- 1:30Speaker 2: mama make?
- 1:31Speaker 4: Red bean? An oyster thlum gullion?
- 1:35Speaker 2: Never mind, then I'll just have some buttered saltines in
- 1:39Speaker 2: a glass of cow's milk.
- 1:41Speaker 4: Daddy, you ain't the man no more? Why do you
- 1:44Speaker 4: keep going.
- 1:44Speaker 2: To them meeting Well, I still feel the need to
- 1:46Speaker 2: make sure the public's money is being well spent. And
- 1:50Speaker 2: tonight they was talking about using a pretty good chunk
- 1:54Speaker 2: of change from the par tax par tax. What is that, well,
- 1:58Speaker 2: some kind of grant or you slush fund if we're
- 2:02Speaker 2: being honest, that we need to use for p parks,
- 2:06Speaker 2: a orts or R recreation par And then I was
- 2:11Speaker 2: there to make sure that the council didn't vote to
- 2:13Speaker 2: use it for orts.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Was he successful in your effort?
- 2:17Speaker 2: Yep, we voted to use the poor grant for pickleball courts.
- 2:21Speaker 2: But Asa Nelson's half brother Dink is on the council now,
- 2:25Speaker 2: and he just kept going on and on how we
- 2:28Speaker 2: use them poor funds. The pickleball courts would be owned
- 2:31Speaker 2: by the state and not the city of Mona. It's
- 2:33Speaker 2: just not true. And then he was all a twitter
- 2:37Speaker 2: about where are we gonna put them pickleball court Well.
- 2:40Speaker 4: Hell, Daddy had just put him where the old ballfield is.
- 2:43Speaker 4: The place is just home to weeds.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Now that's very good boy, that's what we told him.
- 2:48Speaker 2: And you wash your mouth. I will not have you swearing.
- 2:52Speaker 4: Oh I'm sorry, daddy, but you put old dink in
- 2:55Speaker 4: his place.
- 2:56Speaker 2: I bet well, I mean, And a couple of others,
- 2:58Speaker 2: and the council finally vote to go ahead and authorize
- 3:03Speaker 2: the building of them pickleball courts at the old ball
- 3:06Speaker 2: field site. There's just one thing, What thing, Daddy? What
- 3:11Speaker 2: intarnation is pickleball?
- 3:15Speaker 1: Join us again some other time as we examine how
- 3:18Speaker 1: the Utah natives speak with the Utah word of the day.
- 3:24Speaker 2: And that's that's how we went down.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Do you know, a former mayor, do you know what
- 3:29Speaker 3: pickleball is? Now?
- 3:30Speaker 2: I do indeed know what pickleball is now. I've seen people,
- 3:34Speaker 2: I've seen I've seen the inverplay it.
- 3:36Speaker 4: I did some research on this, Daddy. There are no
- 3:39Speaker 4: pickles involved.
- 3:40Speaker 2: No, none, none. It's a ball. It's a lie. It
- 3:44Speaker 2: doesn't shape, it's not shaped like a pickle. It was
- 3:47Speaker 2: some jokester who decided to name it pickleb It's a
- 3:50Speaker 2: big lie. But we had a really nice ribbon cutting ceremony.
- 3:55Speaker 2: I want to thank Dank Neltson and his brother Asa Neltson.
- 3:59Speaker 2: They come around, they come around, and they they they
- 4:03Speaker 2: brought the ribbon and the balloons and the balloons for
- 4:06Speaker 2: the ribbon.
- 4:07Speaker 4: Lots of balloons.
- 4:08Speaker 2: There was lots of balloons. And the jew Ab Health
- 4:11Speaker 2: Department donated some bottles of water. So that's nice.
- 4:15Speaker 4: Now I have an idea, Daddy, because you know Mother's
- 4:19Speaker 4: Day is coming up.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Oh that's right. Oh, if I could get your mom
- 4:22Speaker 2: to stop making that red bean and oyster slum gullion,
- 4:25Speaker 2: well that's one thing.
- 4:27Speaker 4: But I was thinking, if that's the way we could
- 4:29Speaker 4: get Dink to name the pickleball court after Mama for
- 4:33Speaker 4: Mother's Day, that's a that's an idea. I mean, she
- 4:38Speaker 4: ain't never played, but at least her name would be
- 4:42Speaker 4: up on it and her memory would live forever, so.
- 4:45Speaker 2: It would be called the Missus Criddle, the.
- 4:50Speaker 4: Mama criddled pickleball.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Court, Mama criddled or missus criddle something. Missus griddle is
- 4:55Speaker 2: a little more formal.
- 4:56Speaker 4: Well, but she's my mama.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Oh that's true.
- 4:59Speaker 4: Well you're a missus.
- 5:00Speaker 2: We'll talk to Dink about.
- 5:01Speaker 4: That about it all right, but mama crittled pickleball.
- 5:07Speaker 2: I like the idea. You're a smart one, Denver.
- 5:10Speaker 4: I do what I can day, all right, thank you?
- 5:15Speaker 2: And scene I love that.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Hey, now so so the Mona City, which is one
- 5:24Speaker 3: of my favorite Instagram follows Mona City Instagram page. They
- 5:29Speaker 3: they put a post about the pickleball court ribbon cutting.
- 5:34Speaker 3: It says tonight at six pm, refreshments will be served.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Well and what were the refreshments bottled? That you have
- 5:40Speaker 2: County Health Department. Yeah, I mean it.
- 5:44Speaker 3: It's very refreshing.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Yeah. They have on their page the page you sent me,
- 5:49Speaker 2: it's fun facts for May, and they have all these
- 5:52Speaker 2: little cartoon things dates to remember in May, and for
- 5:55Speaker 2: Cinco Demayo, they have a little cartoon drawing of a
- 5:59Speaker 2: of a cactus, one of those cigaro catas with a
- 6:02Speaker 2: wearing a sombrero. And and what something is something to
- 6:10Speaker 2: remember in in May for some reason is Lily of
- 6:13Speaker 2: the Valley. Now. I don't know why, but hm hmm,
- 6:18Speaker 2: is that like.
- 6:18Speaker 3: For Memorial Day flowers?
- 6:21Speaker 4: And another thing on their instagram is the street department
- 6:24Speaker 4: is going to start to mow the streets.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Oh yes, yeah, there's remember street mowing is coming up.
- 6:31Speaker 4: So remove all debris, cars, trailers from the streets.
- 6:35Speaker 3: Mowing the grass streets.
- 6:38Speaker 2: I don't apparently it just says the street department will
- 6:42Speaker 2: be mowing the streets. In the streets at least remove
- 6:45Speaker 2: all debris cars, railroad trailers and everything from city property.
- 6:49Speaker 3: We're going to put a car.
- 6:52Speaker 2: I think what I think what it means is they've
- 6:54Speaker 2: got the sides of the of the road where the
- 6:58Speaker 2: weeds grow up. Now have them mowers go through there,
- 7:01Speaker 2: knock them weeds dale. I think that's what it means.
- 7:04Speaker 4: And no decorating the flowers of the cemetery before the
- 7:08Speaker 4: Friday before Memorial Day. They'll take them down.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Most people in Mona call it still call it though
- 7:14Speaker 2: they don't call it Memorial Day. They call it decoration
- 7:17Speaker 2: Decoration Day. Yeah, all right,
