- 0:00You know, I live in Florida. People who say, hey, dude, you
- 0:02live in Florida, you play golf. I said, no, I play drums.
- 0:06And that's true. You know, I don't.
- 0:07I don't care about golf. What's up everybody?
- 0:18I am thrilled to be joined once again by rock legend Carmine
- 0:22Apiece. Or officially Apache.
- 0:24Right, the original. Family.
- 0:26Well, that's the Italian way, yeah.
- 0:27Yeah, but a piece great story we talked about last time.
- 0:31How are you my friend? I'm good, I'm good.
- 0:33We're just still working away. As you know, we just finished
- 0:38the Cactus Temple of Blues 2, which is coming out and I'm
- 0:42working not only worked on the album, finished it to the video.
- 0:45Now we're working on a live gig, which is a like a release party
- 0:50for for the album. It's in the Al Qaeda Theatre
- 0:54and, and St. Charles, IL outside Chicago and,
- 0:58and we got like me and Doug Pinnick and Doug Aldridge and,
- 1:02and Eric GAIL, Billy Sheehan, Tony Franklin, Pat Travis
- 1:06Bubblefoot, my guy, Rob Caudill from My Rod Show.
- 1:10And there might be a couple more.
- 1:12I can't remember all of it, but that's April 3rd and the album
- 1:16comes out April 3rd. So everything's moving along.
- 1:20Yeah, man, you are working so hard and I have just utmost
- 1:25respect for how hard you've been working on this.
- 1:27Temple of Blues one was a favorite.
- 1:29Temple of Blues 2 is awesome. I love this deep, sincere love
- 1:33for the Blues and the original artist that made it.
- 1:36I think that's the best, like one of the best things you can
- 1:39do is if you're going to do an album like this, that the
- 1:41treatments are done not just with great names because there
- 1:44are some tremendous performances on here, but also not just the
- 1:48the the original band, but like, you know, the the OG current
- 1:52band, but also all these amazing guests.
- 1:54But the care is what I love about these performances, these
- 1:57takes, these He's run this because I may also been a Blues
- 2:01fan for many years, not just as a music journalist.
- 2:03That's where it all started, you know?
- 2:05Yeah, that's where it started. And Cactus was into the Blues,
- 2:09you know, Matter of fact, you know, I didn't really know that
- 2:12much about Blues when we did Parchment Song, the original
- 2:14Cactus and that Fast song, you know, like I thought we wrote
- 2:18it. I didn't know it was a Blues
- 2:19song. You know, it's a couple of
- 2:22things. Like I can't judge a book.
- 2:23Also, I thought it was us because rest of the day every
- 2:26time we jam something, he just starts singing, you know?
- 2:28And most of the songs are ours. But on this one, like Parchment
- 2:32found me a while. I didn't know we didn't write
- 2:34that, you know, but you know, with Cactus, we played all kinds
- 2:38of Blues. We've you know, when we had when
- 2:40we got busted in Cleveland, we wrote a song called The Midnight
- 2:42in Cleveland. It was a Blues, you know, and
- 2:45you know, So these this new album has seven songs by Willie
- 2:49Dixon and Hallen Wolf, which I had first listened to the album
- 2:53years ago. And that's where we got evil
- 2:56from, you know, the album was given to me by Jeff Beck and it
- 2:59was given to him by Jimmy Page. So you could hear the Zeppelin
- 3:04influence on Zeppelin 1 from that this album.
- 3:07And same thing with Beck. And on the Beck all the album,
- 3:09there was some stuff on there, you know, and with me it was
- 3:12evil. So I said, you know what, I'm
- 3:14going to listen to that album again because I remember it had
- 3:16great drum sounds and great Trump parts.
- 3:18So I did. And I said, you know what,
- 3:20there's seven of these songs we could really do up.
- 3:23So we did. And Kill Her came out great, you
- 3:26know? Right on.
- 3:28I love. First of all, I love Will.
- 3:30Willie Dixon is just such an immense figure, and Howlin' Wolf
- 3:33had like masterful people in his.
- 3:35Band right like. Just such a that blue scene was
- 3:39so integral to the American Music that we have today, you
- 3:43know, it kind of affected everything, not just rock music,
- 3:47you know? I don't know if it affected
- 3:48Taylor Swift. Well, you know what though?
- 3:52You know pop is generational, right?
- 3:54Like Sinatra was pop before he was really respected as a jazz
- 3:57guy. So I always think about a good
- 4:00song's a good song. If Taylor wanted to make a Blues
- 4:02record, you know, Cyndi Lauper, who's like a world, you know,
- 4:05Hall of Fame and rock, world renowned singer did a bunch of
- 4:08Blues albums in the last 15 years and they are stellar.
- 4:11And she went down to Memphis. She hired local people well.
- 4:14Look at. Look at Melanie doing Purple
- 4:18Haze. I mean, she sounds like Janis
- 4:19Chaplin on there, yeah. She's a little It's bittersweet.
- 4:23I'm sorry. A long.
- 4:24Way. It's a long way from the roller
- 4:25skates. It's a long way from Isle of
- 4:29Wight and Woodstock. And that's right.
- 4:31And and the the I live in San Francisco, so like that culture
- 4:35is here constantly. About all the things we used to
- 4:38play the Filmo in the Avalon Theater.
- 4:41Avalon's gone, Fillmore's still there somehow.
- 4:44It's great. They reopened it and rebuilt it
- 4:46and it's been around for like another 20 years.
- 4:49We have some great. We've we're losing a couple of
- 4:50venues here, but we we got some grand old ones too.
- 4:56In terms of the selection, just like Temple of Blues one, right?
- 4:59Like, did you, you know, I know obviously you look, you arrange,
- 5:02you have an ear on production for all these albums, but for
- 5:06picking these particular songs with their stuff like you
- 5:08couldn't get to for. Well, no, it's just a couple of
- 5:13things happened. We, we redid all the cactus
- 5:15songs on one and on two we did 3 cactus songs that didn't make it
- 5:20to the first ones, which I thought were cool to do.
- 5:23And then because last year I was trying to get into the, the
- 5:27Blues market with, with the Grammys per SE, and they put us
- 5:32in rock albums with Taylor Swift, you know?
- 5:35So I said, well, maybe we should do more Blues on this album.
- 5:39And since we ran out of Cactus songs, I said, what would I like
- 5:42to do next? And I always remember that
- 5:44Howlin' Wolf album, I said we took evil, and that's been one
- 5:47of our most favorite songs, you know, the people that we're
- 5:50known for. So I went back and listened to
- 5:52it and I said, wow, I forgot how good this stuff is, you know?
- 5:56And the drummer on that album was Morris Morris lead Morris
- 6:01Jennings. And boy, he was killer and the
- 6:04drum sound was great and he had the pocket and he played
- 6:09differently than anyone else. So I tried to on this album.
- 6:13I picked the seven songs that I like when I started Everything
- 6:16Looks like the last time. I started with the drums, but
- 6:19the click on, I started singing the riff, go through the whole
- 6:22song, singing the riff, go to another song that another track
- 6:26singing the vocals. So I had something to play.
- 6:28I even played some bass on this on the demo, you know, like I'm
- 6:32moan and I played bass on moan and, and I changed it.
- 6:35I went like from the stock court of No Blues into kind of like a
- 6:39blue murder kind of groove on it.
- 6:41And then then the sang over that and then it went through like a
- 6:44shuffle. So it had three levels of music
- 6:48there. And you know, so it was fun
- 6:50doing it like that. And even like the one with
- 6:53Melanie, I took the we had the voice on the clip and I put the
- 6:57drums to the voice. I put the brakes where the
- 6:59brakes would be, you know, I did all the arranging just from the
- 7:02drums and it came out great. The whole album came out really
- 7:06good. I was, I was emulating Mars
- 7:09Leave Mars Jennings drums, done my way with my drum sound.
- 7:14It's great. Like spoonful, you know,
- 7:15everyone knows the cream spoonful.
- 7:18It's a shuffle, you know, This one was 8 notes, down, down,
- 7:23down, down, down. Boom.
- 7:25Yeah, they're doing that. It's very like a March.
- 7:28So I did it similar to him, and then I changed some parts on the
- 7:31drums, which affected what everybody else did.
- 7:34But little by little it came out great.
- 7:36Like one of the most mind blowers for me was on we did
- 7:40Eric Kales. So once I did the track and I
- 7:43give it to my guitar player, Audie Dillon, he would put the
- 7:46guitar and the bass on it and then my my singer would put a
- 7:49vocal on it. And then we have a demo now.
- 7:51I sent the demo to to Eric and you know, we'd have stems.
- 7:54So he took the vocal and the guitar out and then he played
- 7:57and it was great. And it goes into the up tempo.
- 8:00I did that because I wanted to hear him really smoke, you know,
- 8:03I mean smoking on the 6-8, but taking his up tempo, you know,
- 8:07really heavy and then kill it. So he sends it back for me and
- 8:10he didn't do nothing. I said, dude, why didn't you
- 8:12play in the up tempo? He said, well, I thought that
- 8:14was for you to shine. I said no, that's for you to
- 8:17shine. And I said he sends it, I sent
- 8:19it back and he sends it back to me and freaking great.
- 8:22And then Billy Sheen was the last thing on it.
- 8:24So he played great. And then when when Eric to the
- 8:27solos, he followed some of the solo on the bass and I didn't
- 8:31know he was going to do that. So when I got it back, I said,
- 8:34wow, this is incredible, you know, so that whole track just
- 8:38shined for me, you know, because I didn't know what was going to
- 8:41happen. So a lot of that, a lot of that
- 8:43kind of stuff went on throughout the whole album.
- 8:46You know, the harmonica parts really great.
- 8:49You know, that's a kid, a guy from from Florida.
- 8:52His name is Rockin Jake. He plays like little clubs, like
- 8:5660 people clubs and all over South Florida and he's a
- 9:00monster. And I thought he became friends.
- 9:03I said, you know what you got to play in this album?
- 9:05He says, really, He was so excited, you know, he said, you
- 9:08don't have to pay me. I said, I'm going to pay you,
- 9:10you know? But he didn't even want to get
- 9:12paid. He was so excited about playing
- 9:14on this album with all these people, you know?
- 9:16Humble. I like it.
- 9:17And I love that story about trading the tape back and forth,
- 9:22you know, not for nothing like again to to put this together as
- 9:26an undertaking over time. I love that you mentioned Billy
- 9:29surprising you. I, I think Billy is a consummate
- 9:32professional. He does a lot of records like
- 9:34this where he'll guess there and lay down stuff and he never
- 9:36brags about it. And he plays for what the song
- 9:38calls for with a little bit of Billy in it.
- 9:40And I felt like he he really played for the song more than
- 9:44anybody. Even even when he does a lead
- 9:46thing, he's playing for the song in a way that I think a lot of
- 9:50other bass players don't. And the only other kind of bass
- 9:52player I like more than that is the bassist that is extremely
- 9:56patient and sits like a lot of rests, grooves and rests.
- 10:00And this record has so many grooves and I love hearing your
- 10:03heavy drum sound with these incredible swings because and
- 10:07like you mentioned, like a little bit of a shuffle
- 10:09sometimes because I don't think you get enough credit for how
- 10:12much in the pocket you always are.
- 10:14And obviously people know about your Thunder is heavy drumming
- 10:17that people get excited about, which is great and it's a
- 10:20tribute to you and your whole. Career about groove.
- 10:22Love the groove in the pocket stuff.
- 10:24Yeah, in the pocket. Yeah, like you keep hanging on.
- 10:27I hear people do it right. I do with my Roger.
- 10:30I have a Rod show which I had Rod Stewart do it when I was
- 10:33with him and we did it and it sounded like give me hanging on
- 10:36in the pocket. But if you get somebody else,
- 10:39another drummer to play that song, it sounds different.
- 10:41Just not in the same pocket, not in the same feel.
- 10:45The feel comes from the drums. Everything comes from the drums
- 10:48and and you know, but I just love doing I love doing that
- 10:51stuff and people say, how do you do this?
- 10:53How do you? I mean, I start with a
- 10:54spreadsheet. I have names on the spreadsheet
- 10:57who I'd like to call to get to play with someone that I haven't
- 11:01played with on the on the last album, like Jolyn Turner and
- 11:04Derek Cerinian and and Steve Moss, which have played with on
- 11:08other albums like Steve Morris played on my guitar 6 record,
- 11:11played fantastic. And I've done this before and
- 11:14when and I did the first one, Cleopatra Records owner Brian
- 11:18called me and said, you think you could put together a record
- 11:20where get people that are influenced by Cactus.
- 11:23I said, yeah, man, I did guitars this of course I can do this.
- 11:26And I did it, you know, and we got some great names on the
- 11:30first one. And I tried to get different
- 11:32guys like Joel and turn in and Alex Soltnik, you know, totally
- 11:38different kind of dude. And Jimmy Hasslip on base, the
- 11:41harmonica player, Tracy Guns, all different guys, you know,
- 11:45plus my regulars, I had Dee Schneider had, Ted Nugent had,
- 11:50and Billy Sheen. Those are my regulars, you know,
- 11:52because they they love to play. And Billy and Tim Bogota said
- 11:55anything you want to do with Cactus on there, you know,
- 11:57because Tim, Tim was his idol, total idol.
- 12:01Of course, of course I love the Tracy song and I love him, you
- 12:04know, after the bad news with Dee and and Twisted Sister.
- 12:08That's the last. I think that's the last
- 12:10recording of Dee. So far, yeah.
- 12:12I hope it's not the last, but I much respect, again just like
- 12:16you, to keep doing what you do. I'm so.
- 12:18Grateful and I love Dee and I I was looking.
- 12:21Forward, he was going to play at the gig too, but unfortunately
- 12:25this happened so he can't do that.
- 12:27So I got my my Rod Stewart guy, Rob Cottle, who's a great growly
- 12:32voice. I heard him say, I said, let me
- 12:33hear you sing some of it. And he sang.
- 12:35I said OK, you can do it. I think that guy goggles with
- 12:38rocks, he sounds great. Who?
- 12:40Rob. Rob yeah, he's awesome, man.
- 12:43He's awesome. And did you see the video?
- 12:45I did see the video, I actually watched it right before this
- 12:47call so. I did.
- 12:49Fun, So much fun. Just fun having fun, you know?
- 12:53Tracy has turned out to be one of the more fun elder statesman
- 12:57of of. Rock.
- 12:58I didn't expect it when I was a high school kid and I was like,
- 13:01this guy's wild and he must be like running Hollywood.
- 13:04And now he's like just kind of. That's good because this record
- 13:12he played, he just wouldn't need it.
- 13:16Real simple, cool bluesy licks and then the slide, you know,
- 13:22and and the storyline of the video is crazy, you know, and,
- 13:26and it's fun. You know, me, me and this guy,
- 13:29Dom Esposito did it. He created all the all the stuff
- 13:33and he said, well, what do you want?
- 13:34And I said, what? No, it's little Red Rooster is
- 13:36such an old song. I said, let's go back, let's go
- 13:39back to the like where it started, like in the Blues and
- 13:42make it black and white and let us play in front of an old the
- 13:46crumpet shack, you know, and play on the on the fields and
- 13:49this and that. And he created it great.
- 13:52And then we had to create. He said I'd love to have the
- 13:55rooster turn into a woman. I said, but dude, it's a male,
- 13:58you know, it's not a female. So so he said, well, I said,
- 14:02well, maybe you can do a gender change sign.
- 14:04I said, well, I don't know if I want to get into the politics of
- 14:07that, you know, so let's come up with something else.
- 14:09We came up with beauty makeover and I said that's pretty cool.
- 14:13And then on the side it says it's only temporary.
- 14:15So when it it becomes a woman, then goes back into it into the
- 14:20into the rooster. It was killer, you know.
- 14:22So when it was done and I had to give, I had to give it to Dee
- 14:25because him driving the car is not Dee.
- 14:27You say I you know, I said I hope he doesn't say, man, that
- 14:31sucks. I look like shit.
- 14:33He look good. Yeah, he look.
- 14:34Good. His I.
- 14:35Wouldn't even have been known if you didn't tell.
- 14:37Me, you know? So he said to me, it's fucking
- 14:40amazing. I said what would I do if he
- 14:43hated it, you know? Right, right.
- 14:45You he's. He's a, he's a trooper, man.
- 14:47He, he's a, he loves, he loves cactus.
- 14:49I mean, he did evil with his band Widowmaker way back in the
- 14:53day because he's from Long Island.
- 14:54Cactus was big in Long Island. Yeah, he came up right out.
- 14:57You know, he came along right after you guys.
- 14:59I I love not only that you have Doug on this record because I'm
- 15:03such a freak for Kings XI love. Ty.
- 15:05Ty doesn't get enough love from guitar nerds because he's also a
- 15:09guy that plays for the song. He's not on here.
- 15:11He's not on. Oh, is he not on here?
- 15:12I thought he was. On the last one.
- 15:14Oh OK, I thought he was on 300 lbs of joy.
- 15:17Which one? 300 lbs of joy.
- 15:18I thought that was TIE but I could be wrong.
- 15:21You know, maybe it is tie, I don't remember.
- 15:23I'd have to look at my chart. Hold on, I'll tell you in a
- 15:26minute. No worries.
- 15:27So I thought Tie said he didn't want to.
- 15:29He couldn't do it because he just got off the road.
- 15:32Maybe it was the gig he couldn't do.
- 15:33Maybe you're right, you know? Well, that's not it, is it?
- 15:37You might be right. I'd have to look at the cover,
- 15:39look at my notes. No worries.
- 15:41I love, I love kings. You know what I think?
- 15:43I think you're right. I think it is Ty.
- 15:45Yes. I think it was asking Ty to do
- 15:47the gig he couldn't do. Fair enough.
- 15:49Yeah. Do you also know Jerry from the
- 15:51Kings X guys? Because he also always reminded
- 15:53me A lot of you like similarities.
- 15:55Yeah, but you know what on on that song called Feel So Good,
- 15:59there's all these drummers on that, Jerry's on it, my port
- 16:03noise on it, Todd Zuckerman's on it, my brother Vinny's on it.
- 16:07But we took the drum sounds and we made them sound like effects,
- 16:10not drums, you know? And then Billy Sheehan's playing
- 16:13fuzz bass like Tim Bogert, and we got a drum battle with a
- 16:17guitar battle with Brit Lightning, and Tommy's there,
- 16:20you know? It's some crazy stuff, you know?
- 16:22Fun stuff. I'm glad you did some
- 16:24experimenting and things. But yeah, what a great, what a
- 16:27great album. Again, the Melanie song kind of
- 16:29also made me a little sad. But you know, bad stuff is
- 16:31killer. Like you mentioned Derek and Joe
- 16:33and just so much fun and I love that you still have such a
- 16:38vibrancy about your work like it matters.
- 16:41And I know you love making music.
- 16:44You know, I live in Florida. People who say, hey, dude, you
- 16:46live in Florida, you play golf. I said no, I play drums.
- 16:50And that's true. You know, I don't, I don't care
- 16:52about golf. I don't care about sports.
- 16:54You know, I got my studio, I go in there when I got a project to
- 16:57do. Like Cleopatra just told me they
- 17:00want me to play on Captain Kirk. William Shackness, what he does,
- 17:05you know. I can't wait.
- 17:06It's going to be like heavy metal.
- 17:08He's doing heavy metal songs, you know, with the spoken word
- 17:13and even singing. He had quite a singing career.
- 17:15People don't remember him and Leonard Nimoy both had albums,
- 17:19Many albums actually. Yeah.
- 17:23You can look them up. Shatner, you know, he had his
- 17:26style, right? That he was known for.
- 17:28And yeah, I love, I love me some Star Trek and and Star Wars.
- 17:32But interestingly enough, when I graduated grad school, Leonard
- 17:35Nimoy came and spoke at my graduation in Boston because he
- 17:39is from East Boston. What did you graduate as?
- 17:42Boston University, I got a masters in in advertising and
- 17:45marketing. That's.
- 17:46What I did I'm. Not doing the advertising.
- 17:48When I'm not doing Ghost Cult I, I do social media and digital
- 17:51marketing. But he spoke to us and he was
- 17:53hilariously funny and, you know, very vibrant himself.
- 17:56And, and he said, like, I'm still working on things.
- 17:59You may not see me every day, but the work is what, you know,
- 18:02drives me. And I kind of think about you.
- 18:04Same thing. Same thing.
- 18:05Yeah, I love that you, you know. It's my wife, used to my wife,
- 18:09she has a, she was big radio talk host at talk show house in,
- 18:13in New York when I met her 23 years ago.
- 18:15I mean, she had billboards all over in New York in the back of
- 18:17buses. She's called the radio chick.
- 18:19You look her up, she was big. She's like #3 in New York, which
- 18:24is name wasn't number one. My name, my brains going to
- 18:28that. I got so many names.
- 18:30Anyway, she was big and, and she did a podcast called a Life
- 18:34Stories, which she went out and talked to people were like 100
- 18:38years old, 104 and what drove them?
- 18:40And they said purpose, purpose kept them going.
- 18:43That's me purpose. You know, my purpose is to keep
- 18:47creating music, keep playing drums in front of people,
- 18:50audiences. Like I play with Vanilla Fudge,
- 18:52I play with Cactus, I play with my Rod show.
- 18:55You know, I'm having fun playing different kinds of music, you
- 18:58know, to different kinds of audiences.
- 19:00And that's really fun. You know, rather than being in
- 19:03the same band for 40 years, I'm in New York.
- 19:07There you go. I don't know if you heard that,
- 19:10but you know, like being in the same band for 40 years playing
- 19:12the same hit songs must be really horrible to do.
- 19:16Especially if you resent your success and you don't love it.
- 19:19You would. It would be probably miserable.
- 19:21Yeah, for me, you know, I, I never had my own bands playing
- 19:24Madison Square Garden. I played Madison Square Garden
- 19:28many times with Rod, with Ozzy, with Ted Nugent, you know, and
- 19:32that kind of thing. But my own projects play
- 19:34theaters. But I play different kinds of
- 19:36stuff, you know? And for me, it's very
- 19:38satisfying. I'd love to see Rod go.
- 19:40It seems like he's heading back to his catalog, his early stuff
- 19:44again, which I hope so, because you know, I.
- 19:48I always, this is supposed to be his big, his last thing.
- 19:51And you know, I mean my rod show, I have sack catcher Rodger
- 19:54in the play with rod sacks 14 years.
- 19:56So like the years ago you seen him with the sax play, female
- 19:59sax play. That was her and she plays with
- 20:01us and she's telling us that all his keys are down 3 keys.
- 20:05And like my rod show is Rod 1979.
- 20:09Kick Ass Rock'n'roll, Most of the stuff is the stuff I've done
- 20:12with him and I play with him. It's maybe two or three songs
- 20:15from the new Rod, you know, come some guys have all the luck.
- 20:19If I told you lately, I love you and that's about it.
- 20:23The Maggie May I play Maggie May every night.
- 20:26Nice, yeah. With Rod, we used to do a Reg,
- 20:28we used to do a reggae at the end of it, Expend Radio, Maggie,
- 20:32Boom, boom, yeah, I wish. And he and he start talking like
- 20:36a Jamaican, singing. That's funny.
- 20:39It was. Fun and we would have watched to
- 20:41a group. It was wasn't just about it was
- 20:44about Rod, but it wasn't about Rod on stage.
- 20:46It was all of us. We all had solos.
- 20:49You know my solo, he said. You do your solo, I'm fine with
- 20:52it. Give me time to take your time
- 20:55and give me time to change and fix my hair and stuff.
- 20:58And we did, you know, and it was, it was great.
- 21:01And I look at Rod when I play with Rod, he was the best front
- 21:04man in in the business by that at the time.
- 21:07He had an unbelievable voice, unbelievable.
- 21:10And he'd run and jump on top of the piano, you know, I mean,
- 21:14now, you know, he's 8283 years old.
- 21:16He can't do. It's just like I can't do stuff
- 21:18I used to do. And I used to be able to jump up
- 21:20after a song. And, you know, I can't do that
- 21:23no more, you know, But I try and put the energy out anyway that I
- 21:27can. He's doing the same.
- 21:29But now he's got this big review.
- 21:30You know, it's like the Rod Stewart review.
- 21:33My things called Rod the show celebrating the music and and
- 21:37legacy of Rod Stewart. When I told him that, he said,
- 21:39wow, I'm honored. I said, well, I'm on it.
- 21:42That you're on it. You.
- 21:43Know nice? Yeah, he seems like he's
- 21:45probably a good dude. We do a great job, you know,
- 21:47and, and I have fun playing, you know, all those hot legs and,
- 21:51and I played, you know, passion hot legs.
- 21:54You're in my heart. You keep me hanging on that.
- 21:56We did on the first Ride album that I did with him.
- 21:59We do it live and it's the highlight of the show of all
- 22:02these hit records. That song is the highlight of
- 22:04show because it has so much drama in it, you know, And the
- 22:07way we do it, it's really awesome.
- 22:09Right on. Just the last question for you.
- 22:11I always like to end these or the wild.
- 22:13I always like to end these interviews with the wild card.
- 22:15So I have a new one for you this time.
- 22:17And it's if you could take like, what is your favorite record
- 22:20just that you didn't play on but you're a fan of in history?
- 22:23Do you have one record you love? Them, but I didn't play on.
- 22:26That you didn't play on. That's a rough one.
- 22:27That's not thinking of records. I guess one of the Zeppelin
- 22:31records that that would then have Black Dog on it.
- 22:34Yeah, I love playing just Black Dog alone.
- 22:38What else was on Zeppelin 4? Stairway to Heaven going to
- 22:42California and cash was then 2 records.
- 22:44After. But yeah, great, you know when
- 22:48the levee breaks. Oh my God.
- 22:50Yeah. Yeah.
- 22:53You know, it's funny because I played, I played my my singer in
- 22:56Cactus at Terry has an amazing Zeppelin tribute band.
- 23:01And the drummer of it is one of my students from years ago.
- 23:05And they played down in Florida and and he couldn't make us.
- 23:08I said, man, can you play Zeppelin tribute with us?
- 23:11I said, yeah. I said, yeah, but don't use my
- 23:13name. Let's just let me just come.
- 23:15And I don't want people thinking I'm I've gone that far down when
- 23:18I'm doing Zeppelin tributes in a little club.
- 23:20You know, we did it. And then I started working out
- 23:24this stuff and I said, you know, it's a bit hard for me to play
- 23:28that stuff at my age, you know, and I can't.
- 23:35How am I going to rehearse it, you know, so And they said just
- 23:38play it like you. That made a difference.
- 23:40So and then I rehearsed it. I went and played the gig and I
- 23:44had a good time playing Black Dog and playing Cashmere and
- 23:47playing, you know, there's a thing in in the Stairway to
- 23:51Heaven where there's a time thing in it which is really
- 23:54weird. I don't know if it's an edit
- 23:55because it's really weird. Yeah, we studied it back in
- 23:58music school where it was like most conventional music doesn't
- 24:00do what that speed up like. That, like that, that thing
- 24:04right there, it sounds like an edit to me because it doesn't,
- 24:07it's not like a 7-8, it's not a 7 1/2.
- 24:10It's just weird. It's like 7 and a quarter or
- 24:13something, you know what I'm saying?
- 24:14It's really weird. That one took me a minute to, to
- 24:17workout, but I, I worked it out and played it.
- 24:19OK, you know, But uh yeah, there's some great things they
- 24:22did. Nice work.
- 24:23Temple of Blues 2 is coming out soon.
- 24:24Carmine Apiece. Thank you so much for your time
- 24:26once again my friend. Just great to see you.
- 24:29Thank you for doing what you do and keep it up.
- 24:31We'll see you. Thank you.
- 24:32Good to see you again.
