- speaker-0: Hey, welcome to the Mark Workman Show. We've been on hiatus for a little bit, been traveling and missed our show last week, which we both talked about more than once at how we didn't like missing. So it's good to be back and and we we do love having these discussions and today we got a pretty good show. It's really great. It's actually something very interesting to me because it it's probably been the source of maybe for me just a lifelong journey with my own health. You know, I've been a athlete, I've been very healthy and and no vices for drinking, smoking, nothing. I've done all these right things. But at the same time I was affected by some gut health things for most of my life that I never really sourced it back until just in the last ten years, realizing that the this some of the things going on in my life in terms of my skin and health and weight and probably mood and all kinds of things were related to my gut health. And we're gonna talk about that today. We might even do multiple shows on it simply because there's so much content. as I was just researching for the show even today, it just keeps going and going and going and We're gonna have some you know, some brief takeaways that we wanna talk about and then some questions. And you know, Kathy's got quite a bit of info herself and some content that she's watched and learned and and we're learning more about this subject to go along with our ketogenic protein unicity type protocols that we're talking about all the time. But this is one that we we think is important and we want to include it with our discussions. So we might do multiple shows, might say, you know, just come back to it now more often. but there's just so much here to learn. It's just kind of amazing. So anyway, just to get started here, we're just the welcome Kathy back. And we just thank you to do our shows on Thursdays. This is our well within episodes. we want you to be well within and enjoy life, be happy. Kathy always has the comment she wants to live it, not die it. speaker-1: Is that right? That's right. speaker-0: So that's her motto on everything she talks about, which is, you know, kinda cool really. And that's a saying that I even hear other people saying. So yeah. Anyway, so how you been? speaker-1: I've been good. I've been living it. Yeah. Having yep. Okay, good. Kind of squeezing the last that I can squeeze out of summer. And I've just today I thought I know why they call it fall, because we all just fall. Like, we had such a busy great summer. So it's it's a good season to fall, to rest and to regroup. speaker-0: Right. You know, it it's good. We we've been busy, but again, we like doing these shows and we don't want to miss them much. So anyway, so let's let's start off today with kind of the basics again that we always do is the you know, the focus of our show has been well within and we can't ignore the fact that there's just a problem in America in terms of metabolic health, right? So let's just talk about the problem and the solution and kind of go through those protocols as a reminder to everybody. And then then we'll get into the microbiome. Right. Okay. Sure. So let's start with the start with the problem and you can go f you know this. speaker-1: We're gonna go from well within, deep within today. And so again, on this journey of my my journey started well, years and years ago with my own personal health. And then I got into the weight loss industry and now recognizing that that is just one symptom of the bigger problem. And the bigger problem is that 93% of the population is metabolically unhealthy. and then probably 90% don't know what metabolic means. I didn't. Metabolic health is how our body processes energy. And we're not processing energy well because our energy sources are very poor and weak. And so when you look at the the wheel, what I call the wheel of torture or the wheel of fortune, if you have to happen to be in big pharma, the center core of that is insulin resistance. And we get insulin resistant when we're overfueling and the cells get tight. And they're not releasing proper energy. So we have energy crashes, we're got cravings, we're moody, we're bloated, we're miserable. And then all of those outside things that you see on there, from type 2 diabetes to childhood obesity, we're seeing so much of that. Fatty liver, PCOS, which is polycystic ovarian syndrome, erectile dysfunction, neuropathy, brain fog, Alzheimer's, dementia, all of these things. Really stem from this insulin resistance. So it excites me to think if we target one thing, we can help so many things. And so many of our chronic diseases are stemmed from that insulin resistance. So in my research, when I found Unicity has a simple protocol that's affordable, that is easy to do, I was all over it. And so that's the solution. It's actually a nutraceutical. Cleveland Clinic has done studies on it. It's in the physician's desk reference. And it's all natural products that they've put together that are benefiting and healing the body, bringing the blood sugars down, leveling out those blood sugars. So now we're not craving and crashing. We have good energy all day. And then the second part of the protocol, which a lot of times loses its gets lost in the in the fray of the, good energy and I don't have food noise, because that. Unicity or the T is also boost your natural GLP one. So it is a replacement for what people are taking as a GLP one, but it doesn't have the side effects, which is wonderful. speaker-0: Yeah. You know, and aga again anyone can look at this look at this excuse me, we can look at this wheel. And see something on there that's going on, you know, and it we don't necessarily need to go and be tested. I mean, whatever people want to do, they can see the doctor however they want. But you can look at that wheel of torture, what you call it, and there's usually two or three of those things in everybody's life, like, I kind of have skin tags. Yeah. You know what I mean? And you just think we just don't realize that skin tags aren't naturally there. speaker-1: Well, we've normalized to feel like, that's part of aging, or we've normalized, yeah, I'm just getting older, I have no energy. You know, we've we've normalized sickness. And so I wanna make healthy normal again and help people to understand that it isn't hard. It's just little consistent steps. speaker-0: Yeah. And so if you see yourself on that wheel somewhere, if you see anything like that, you most likely have a metabolic problem. You you your body doesn't know how to use the energy from the food you're eating. you know, it's something I'm discovering in my own life. I'm down to basically one meal a day, really and and I still I maintain the current weight I have. It's really interesting. I'm losing and stay and staying healthy, but at the same time I'm realizing, My goodness, we do not need the amount of food that we eat. again, we always we eat one meal and a lot of Lot of times start thinking about our next and what we're gonna cook or where we're gonna go to a restaurant or or whatever. So it's so interesting how we're you got this love affair with food, and but when you realize you just don't need that much, but if you see yourself on that wheel anywhere, it it's important to start taking steps to look at alternatives, and unicity is one of those alternatives, and we're gonna talk about the solution right now, and Kathy can go through that and and just share that with you. But unicity offers. offers you an opportunity to take those things maybe you noticed in the wheel and and and turn them into answers for your own life. So let's just take a look at the solution. speaker-1: So again, the solution is it it's been scientifically studied out. It's in the Cleveland Cl the Cleveland Clinic has done studies. I've watched personally The bigger test to me is watching what it's doing in my own personal life and what it's doing in the lives of my friends and family. Because that's really what I want for me, I want for everybody. And when I find a simple something that I feel like will benefit everybody on some level, I'm not going to be able to tell you what it's going to do for your body, but I can tell you that it's going to do more for you than your Diet Coke, your Dr. Pepper, your juice, and all the other things we're we're drinking that are good taking us backwards. So if we can add a Simple herbal tea, and that's what this is a yurba mate tea, the way they process it, it actually boosts the chlorogenic acid. So go ahead and Google chlorogenic acid, what that does. It actually softens those resistant cells so they open back up and now energy can flow again. We've got to get the energy flowing through the cells. We also have to get the, a lot of us have a fatty liver and that liver can be clogged up. So if you think about your insulin is is is high because it's trying to clean out all the extra fuel. But the the insulin is like a drain like a faucet. It's pouring in. And that is the part of the problem. The other part of the problem is our liver is clogged. So the drain is clogged. So we've got all this gunk and we've got to get it cleaned out. And again, the the solution that I have found has been this simple protocol that helps reduce your liver weight. It helps the liver start clearing up. It helps All your organs, your pancreas, it helps those things rest, gets the insulin in control. And so now we're insulin sensitive again. Our body can flow the energy how it needs to. So speaker-0: So there's you a unicity T and then there's a balance fiber. speaker-1: So and that's what we're gonna talk about today is that piece of it. So when we started in the seventies, eighties and nineties in there the food companies, the cigarette companies saw the writing on the wall. So they started sending their addiction specialists over to the food companies. So most of the food companies are owned by the pharmaceuticals and the the the food comp the food and the pharmaceuticals are all hand in hand. And they know that if we take fiber out. you're hungry all the time because fiber is a filler. That's what fills, that's what fuels the gut. And so now we're hungry all the time and they we've created a lot of addictions. And if you don't believe me, try to take something away from somebody and you'll see what you get for an addiction. speaker-0: Right. So l as I'm gonna do a little pre preamble here in terms of just talk about the the microbiome a little bit and you know and sh just share my testimony too along the way is that my story would be that you know I basically had acne, you know, fair it wasn't even bad acne, it's just my mom overreacting, to be honest with you, wanting me to look a certain way at high school and you know, all those stupid things people think about. I wasn't even thinking about it as much, but I know for a fact that we went and and they they I was put on a pretty strong antibiotic. I can't remember the name of it, but I remember researching it later and realizing it was very, very toxic. But I believe that was the beginning of a lot of the problems I was having even as a young man when we early got when we got married early, I was the skin problems were coming on then and I kind of dealt with them most of our marriage, you know. And then when I discovered that it was our microbiome you know and and what we what we have discovered in our research Gut health is health, you know, and unicity is a big part of that, right? It's helping rebuild the gut. The balance is adding these multiple types of fibers to create a diversity in your gut. So it's so important to rebuild and always be thinking about that, right? I and I just pulled up some information here. the gut the gut microbiome influences far more than digestion, it plays a major role in these things. Listen to this: immune function, blood sugar regulation, metabolism. appetite control, inflammation, brain and health mood, disease prevention. And according to the discussion, 50% of biologically active molecules circulating in the bottle body are either produced or modified by gut by gut micro microbes. Think about that. 50% of the active molecules circulating our body are affected by gut microbes. In the microbiome in our gut. And we don't think about that. I I've I've literally never heard of it in my whole life until the last ten years. And now it's kind of popping up. People are realizing how important it is and the diversity that we're not getting with our fibers and and our food. And our food is so weak and so empty, right? And and what we're finding is is that you know, just the even the list of things I mentioned there are even related bacterial wheel wheel of torture. Absolutely. You know, they're so closely related. So I'm just gonna Go ketogenic, I'm gonna have protein, I'm gonna do this, and I'll lose weight. But you still have a gut microbiome weakness, which we find out in some of the research we've done. We don't have a diversity of my fibers, we don't have our health is just really kind of poor. So there's more than one thing happening here with what unicity is attacking, and then the balance that they've they've obviously been smart enough to know how important the microbiome is in our gut. That's why they've added balance, right. speaker-1: Right. And I think within two months you found all of a sudden your your eczema or whatever they call it was was cleared up. And for me personally, you know, you just get things become normal, like, you know, that gut health of, you know, constipated all the time. That's just your normal and you don't realize there's something we can do about it and how that gut biome, like you said, has been destroyed through medications and poor diet. But the upside is, again, I always come back to we are so fearfully and wonderfully. made the body wants to heal itself. So if we can give the body some some simple soluble and insoluble fibers, because a lot of the fiber on the market is just one, one, one type. And it just pushes things through, but it's not actually healing the gut. And that's what I love about the science of the unicity and the balance is they've added all of these on a nutraceutical level, they've added all of these healthy things back in and so the whole gut gets fueled. So if you think about insoluble fiber is what feeds the gut, but soluble fiber is that, what do they call it? Where it gets thick and speaker-0: It's w it's it's dissolvable in water. speaker-1: Yeah, but it's also a like a jelly type. So it actually kind of sticks to the little feliae and it and it feeds the feeds the microbiome. And so when we're not when we're starving out the microbiome, we're starving out our life, basically. speaker-0: Right. And then there's also fibers coming from fermentation. And those would be prebiotics. Yep. Incredibly important. and and what we have found as we started reading and and looking into this subject even more is there's there's a wide range of fibers that we should have in our diet, included with our unicity protocol, with our balance, and then we should be getting that through our food. And you know, and so so what's the motive to process food to the point where they remove all fiber? Like Some of the research we have found is that, you know, hunter-gatherer tribes have thirteen hundred to fifteen hundred different varieties of microbiome in their system. Yeah. And a modern American diet, we have 150. So we have we've been depleted almost down to nothing, really, in terms of a small percentage of what people get naturally out there by sure living life. So what's the motive to strip all that? speaker-1: Marketing. We have we have things to sell and they have made us we are addicted to the food because we're never satisfied. We want more and more. You never hear of anybody hiding in the closet eating carrots or, you know, going through a drive-up and ordering a s a serving of broccoli. It's always these addictive sort of foods that they've stripped the fiber out of and then they've added the combination of There's really nothing in nature that has the sugar and the carbohydrate together. Okay. Well, that that's not right. The sugar and the fat together. So sugar is carbohydrate. So think about we were all, well, I don't know about all of us, but breast milk is the only thing in nature that has the fat and the sugar together. So that's what we all started with, which sparked our little, woo. So these companies know that's called the bliss point. If we can combine enough sugar and enough fat together, this is an addictive sort of thing that people will keep coming back for over and over and over. So really it's a brilliant marketing plan that most of us have fallen for. But once you can connect the dots and see it and you can see it for what it is, then you have, I would say, once you can name the game, then you have a choice to whether you want to play it. So I guess my role is just to help people see the game and then they get to decide how they want to play it. speaker-0: Yeah, and and if if you remember from previous episodes, I did the CGM test. And one of the little things that I processes I went through is I would eat something with some carbs and measure what my my response was in terms of blood sugar. I was really pleased with the results. I came back very healthy, very good. So that's all good. But I did have maybe an initial spike to, you know, one fifteen, one twenty or whatever. But what I found is that when I would eat the same food, but I would take a balance beforehand. the fiber offsets some of that reaction to my blood sugar. So fiber it absolutely helps with insulin response as well. speaker-1: Yeah, absolutely. And that's why they've added it to this protocol. It's so important and valuable in that when you're not, you know, we talk about the net carbs because that's the fiber that holds that blood sugar level. And when you go into your doctor and they go, you're a pre-diabetic, let's put you on metformin. Well, metformin has some pretty brutal side effects, but it brings your blood sugars down. So it's forcing those numbers down, but it's not fixing the problem. What fixes Fixes the problem is we add this soluble and insoluble fiber that grabs onto those carbs and lowers them down. So your blood sugar doesn't spike as high. You feel fuller, longer, and you're satisfied. And that's really what is losing with how come you can eat multiple bowls of chips and salsa because it's that carbohydrate spike that you're getting in your body's trying to, it's more, more, more. speaker-0: Yeah. Another thing that affects the diversity is kind of what I mentioned earlier with the antibiotics. You know, antibiotics are now becoming ineffective. They they're trying to come up with new ones that are effective because the old ones in our culture, where they've been been prescribed so much, each time they're prescribed and each time you have a use, your body learns from that experience and they become less effective over time. And that's maybe that's probably a rudimentary understanding the way I see it. But you know, the diversity in our gut and our microbe is definitely Affected by these medications, these antibiotics. You know, we we have experience as parents when our kids had ear infections. Doctors were prescribing antibiotics, and then we started questioning him at that time, even. And I won't say his name because everyone, yeah, anyway. But and the point of it is is yeah, the ear will heal on its own typically. You don't need to be doing this, you know. So we're firing antibiotics at our children, not realizing they were affecting their ability to process food and have a microbiome. microbiome. And then the other thing that I think is really affecting the diversity of our microbiome that we're almost depleted in terms of our gut health is the idea that we're so clean. They talk about how we have microbe soup, micro micro microbial killing soaps and you know all this kind of stuff. We're just cleaning ourselves to death. You know, and we've even talked about go play in the mud we tell the kids because it's really good for them to get out in that earth and you know it's helping speaker-1: There's actually studies that have proven that. They had a kindergarten or first grade class play in dirt every day compared to other kids, and they found that it it's very important. So these microbiomes that are in our environment are also very helpful. speaker-0: Yeah, and then what what are we doing? We're cleaning ourselves to the point of that those have no effect. It's not good. So it it's like the it's not only what we eat, it's how we live, it's how we play. You know, are we walking in the grass? Right. It sounds crazy. speaker-1: It's that it's that domino effect with you move one, they all move. And that's what happens with our with our bodies. We have to start evaluating, okay, if I do this, then what? so the if this then that is an important thing to be thinking about. speaker-0: Right. Well, it there's there's the it's just seems to me that if gut health is health and we're depleted and fifty percent of the molecules in our body are affected by our gut microbe and we're so depleted, yeah it it's it's not only diet, it's lifestyle, it's what we're exposing ourselves to, are we on extreme medications of some sort? There's so many things coming at us. And if you're not doing the hard work to at least evaluate what That's what's getting at you. Right. Yeah, I think you're going backwards. speaker-1: Well, the cool thing is even we with this Unicity, they have what's called the feel great system and it's just a basic system. but you can up the system and get even more results. So when you can see that just a small amount of added fiber to people is giving dramatic results, you know that you're on to something. So as there As we're learning more and more about that. And the thing is, if you're getting the fiber and the protein you need in a day, you don't have room for all of the other stuff that's being marketed to you. You know, as I walk down the aisles of Walmart, it's just this overwhelming wall of, you know, these things screaming at you. And they don't talk to me anymore, but they used to. They used to actually jump in my cart and that'll be a nice treat. And now the more, like I said, I I know what the game is, now I know how I want to play it. speaker-0: Yeah. Well it you know, it's not only, you know, we all we're we're heavy in this in this show about the well within part is about eating, you know, what you put in your mouth. And and and this and pro and obviously protein and those kind of balances are very important. But what we're discovering possibly is is that excuse me, is that fiber might be just this add-on that, you know, they've done with the balance here that we don't talk about enough. I have some stats here. Every additional ten grams of fiber per day is associated with approximately a ten percent reduction in all cause mortality risk. speaker-1: That was so amazing. So if you're getting for every 10, 10%. So if we're adding, they're they're saying by adding your 40 to 50 grams of fiber, you just cut in half your risk of mortality things. Now, exercise is important. That lowers all those things by about 20, 25%. But why not add the 50%? It's it's really it I I wanna say it's easy, it's not easy because we're changing mindsets and changing mindsets feels hard initially. But when you can start adding like I added a tablespoon of chia seeds to my my coffee this morning. I stir it up and they get they swell up and it's an extra five grams of fiber in the day. speaker-0: Is it from what you're you've been looking at the various foods and evaluating the fiber in a cucumber and you've been zucchini and you've been you've been kind of researching that from your experience from what you've read, getting to 45 to 50 grams of fiber in a day as a as a habit, yeah, how challenging is that? And and where where where's the best way to find that in food? Sounds like it's in veggies and that kind of thing. speaker-1: It's in your veggies, it's in your some of your seeds, like the chia seeds, your flax seeds. Those sorts of things are also very good sources of fiber. And I guess I always want to say, start value adding things. Like when I make up, like I said, my coffee, I value add it with a scoop of the chia seeds. I would do it in my hot unimate as well. So you get these little slimy little bubble sort of things that are just kind of fun to find in your cup. And you once you know what they are, it's not so creepy. a scoop of chia seeds with your yogurt. And some protein powder, because early on, how do you get that much protein? Well, you got almost 20 grams in a cup of prote or a cup of yogurt, then you add another 20 grams with your cup of of protein powder, and then you add a scoop of chia seeds in there and you've got this really great thick pudding. speaker-0: Right. speaker-1: So being creative and just thinking, how do how do I get it in there? speaker-0: Well, creative also would lead to the idea of diversity in the sense of the diverse kinds of fiber. Like if you buy go buy fiber, you know, whatever was it, metamuciles that one. Yeah. You know, I don't know the names of them, but I'm just saying. So you look at the label, it'll say cyllium husk. Right. That's the primary one they always throw at you, right? Am I right? Yeah. But you know, like the flax seed, I'll just eat teaspoons of that stuff and chew it my mouth and or grind it up and drink it. there's you know, the different types and diversity of fiber that you're getting is really important, not just getting one. Right. speaker-1: So a good salad with lots of different veggies in it is a you know, that's another great way to get your fiber in, getting those sorts of things throughout the day. And that's where the unicity is, I call it the unicity simplicity, because it it is hard to get those in there. So when I can take two packets of the the that in a day and it's a soluble and insoluble, and it does thicken and it acts like 20 grams of fiber. And so the other thing I want to make sure people know with fiber is. You gotta be adding some liquid in there. You can't just clog up the system. You gotta make sure you're getting good hydration as well. At least at least a half a gallon to a gallon, you know. speaker-0: Encouraging to me, you know, because we listen to these training things on Tuesday nights and and they always go over the balance. Trent does a great job, right? Yeah, just he's he's just on all over that. I have to admit, as a person watching those over the last year or so, I've not necessarily focused on fiber much. I'm I'm listening to the testimonies and they do a lot of to focus on the unicity side in terms of the T. Sure. But what I'm finding is is that This company, Unicity, had it correct on adding the fiber. And they added a diversity of fiber in the balance. speaker-1: And the diversity is okay, so your let me see if I get this right. So your soluble fiber is a gel like. Okay, it's the vico viscosity, I think they call it. And then the insoluble is actually what's feeding and healing the gut. And a lot of those fibers that are just one or the other aren't it it's the combination that's that is so helpful. And we've got some brilliant great science. people on our on the board with unicity. And so we're just keep learning more and more. And they've just upgraded our we usually we have an orange and a mixed berry and now they have an apple. So they're adding, they're recognizing the value of the pectin in the apple, you know, an apple a day, keep the doctor away. There is some truth to that. They're adding the apple cider vinegar because we do know the ferment fermented things are also very important for our gut and we've been missing out. And Again, when you're focusing on you get what you focus on. And I remember when I used to come to town, I focused on, what drive-thru am I gonna go through today? I'm gonna get me a treat, you know? And and now as I'm focusing on my protein and the fiber, all the other stuff just goes away. So it's not like you have to feel like, I I don't feel deprived at all. And it's so empowering to walk through a grocery store or be in an event with zero voices in my head. And that's where I think the Unicity T is huge at quieting that food noise, as well as my body is fueled properly and it's getting what it needs. So all that other stuff just looks like poison to me. speaker-0: Yeah, and I can I I totally agree with that because I I would say that the food noise is gone too. I like I it doesn't even cross my mind to do my do my little sneaky donut buys or my f frosty buys or my sonic blast buys or you know what I mean? It just hasn't happened in years and I don't even think about it. It literally is not even I can go into Smith's over here and again I always if I do go get maybe some chicken or I'll go look for pork chop deals or whatever I'm doing, I'll walk right past that donut thing. I don't even Doesn't even give me a whiff of problem. speaker-1: Well, food environment is so important. So when you're in your home and you bring that stuff in, it's gonna talk to you from the cupboards, from the depth of your freezer. You're gonna know it's in there. And so I really try to keep our food environment clean. Where in the past I would do the whole go through the Rolodex of, ooh, what sounds good. And now I know I can open the fridge. There's always eggs in there, there's always some vegetables in there, there's always some kind of a protein. you know, there's yogurt. So fill your food environment with the things that are gonna nourish you and fill you. And that those are the just tips that I would recommend. speaker-0: Here's a question for you. If if the average person could only make one change this week to improve their microbiome, other than adding balance, which we believe in, obviously, what would deliver the biggest return on investment basically in their food and diet? What would you because speaker-1: Yeah. Well, and I'd recommend for people that aren't getting a lot of fiber in their diet, don't do it all at once. You know, gra let your body adjust and adapt. But I would say, you know, add some, get some that extra fiber in, whether it's you know, a fibrous apple with your lunch, whether it's a scoop of the chia seeds in your your yogurt, it start worth where you're at and just start reading labels and understanding. That was really big for me too, not understanding where all the sugars Sugars and sugars and carbs are they're confusing because we have they we talk about healthy carbs, we talk about, you know, all of those sorts of things when really it's how does your body's how does it impact your your your your what do they call it the index, the glycemic index. How does your body process whatever it is you're eating, whether you're thinking, you know, okay, I'm I'm eating some sourdough bread, sourdough's better for me. Well, it might be better than some of the other, but it's still spiking your blood sugar. So understanding where those carbs are at is huge too. speaker-0: What are some of the warning signs for your microbiome not being healthy? Do you eat what would be w some of the key ones that you would focus on? speaker-1: We're seeing a lot of anxiety, a lot of depression. ninety percent of serotonin is made in the gut. Interesting. So you're gonna go, you're kind of a little down, you're blue. let's give you a let's give you a pill because your brain is not work. Your chemistry in your brain isn't working. Well, it's really the chemistry in your gut that's not working. So, Those would be some of the things, obviously, the bloating, the gassing, the IBS, irritable bowel syndrome is another big one that a lot of people are dealing with. And we're seeing it with young people. I mean, you talk to somebody in their 20s or 30s, I'm shocked at the list of health issues that they're already dealing with. I was talking to a young mom yesterday and she goes, These moms can't get out of bed. They're, you know, they're they're they have low energy, they have brain fog, they can't get their kids fed, they can't their get their houses taken care of, and they go into I'm sure it's in this depression and anxiety again. But it's it's scary because it's happening younger and younger. And I guess that's the piece that speaker-0: You know, if the trend has been that we've lost eighty to ninety percent of our diversity over the last fifty, sixty years and increase in disease in every way, right? We're seeing an increase in disease. Yeah, all of them aren't getting better. Right. Right. So we've seen this eighty, ninety percent decrease in the diversity in our microbiome, which you know what we're finding out we're down to 150 different types right now compared to when it used to be fifteen hundred. So we're down a huge number, right? So it you can't Yeah, w there's a big focus on protein right now, right? Everything there's protein coffees now, right? There's protein, protein, protein. They're just ramming it down our throat, which is good. That's there's no th nothing wrong with folk refocusing that back to protein and a proper diet and getting rid of the sugars, right? But I think we completely underestimated this microbiome thing from what I'm reading. speaker-1: Yeah, it's funny. I was reading a book years ago and they were talking about, you know, for weight loss, the number one prescription was 50 grams of fiber a day. Yeah. And speaker-0: Interesting. speaker-1: I I just was thinking about that again. I thought, well, of course. It because trust me, if you're getting 50 grams of fiber a day, you're not craving the other stuff. So it's it's really a matter of, you know, bumping things out of the way and adding adding those healthy options back in. speaker-0: You know, you just talked about these young moms, but you know, for parents that are listening to the show, you know, how can they maybe begin the process of helping their own small children or teenagers or whatever to begin first of all start talking about it. Right. Don't you think? Yeah. We as parents need to be teaching, need to be talking about this and training them on how to later live on their own and have a proper diet. But what what what are some of the things you would do right now with young children? speaker-1: Well here's a prime example as a grandmother of eight small children and I feel like my daughter-in-law is doing an amazing job, but it's very difficult because our kids are being marketed to so hard. and it particularly if you're watch have the television running all day long, they are marketed the cereals, they're marketed all of that stuff. But one of the things that I noticed with my grandkids is they love the, you know, the peanut butter and the jelly. So even if though it's an organic jelly, if you take fresh fruit or frozen fruit, I just did a bag of frozen fruit, two cups of fruit, two teaspoon or two tablespoons of chia seeds. Now I've just added fiber to it and some protein to it, and then two tablespoons of honey as your sweetener, you boil it up and thicken it, it becomes this amazing simple jam. So just by chaining out the jam and the kids got involved, they made it, they made their little jelly jars, made all their little labels, they're excited about that. And I think that's where it needs to start is how we train the kids to, you know, understand, will this make you full or is this gonna make you hungrier? You know, recognizing what the carbs, the proteins and the healthy fats, what those are all doing to their system. Because as adults, we missed that somewhere along the line and now we have to go back and learn that. speaker-0: And and those those young kids are geniuses because they know it's in the cupboard. I know it's in the cupboard. You buy yeah, you buy some sort of treat thing and or the you know thick in a case with the ice cream. He knows it's in the free. speaker-1: Yeah. Well, he was programmed in early, early to life, had a lot of a lot of what they thought were healthy items. You know, it was the ho the the yogurt with the fruit in the bottom. It was a lot of those sorts of processed things. And so he still has a flavor for it. And honestly, most of us have been programmed that way. So we're fighting some natural programming that was in there. again, you watch TV and what are your ads? Food and pharmaceuticals. Yep. Food and pharmaceuticals. Food and pharmaceuticals. Yeah. And I remember going down to visit my parents. They had a they would go to s go south for the winter in Texas. And I was probably in my forties. And I'm laying by the pool listening to the conversations. And the conversations were doctors' visits and restaurants. Doctor's visits and restaurants. And you just see this vicious cycle. What came first? I don't know. But they keep each other spinning. So we really need to stop and evaluate again that fuel. Yeah. If your car was running crappy and you always got gas at the one gas station, this happened to me. The gas was crappy gas. So I moved to another gas station. I got the different fuel and it ran different. If we could start connecting those dots with ourselves and training our kids to do that, we have one grandson that he just knows that sugar makes him feel horrible. So even at birthday parties, he doesn't feel obligated to have a piece because it's a birthday. He just, no, thank you. And I'm amazed. speaker-0: Cake, ice cream, speaker-1: I'm not there yet. But but I'm I I'm really proud of them and I think these kids are you know, it's it's really our obligation to treat them and train them. You know, we had our daughter in law had a set of twins and they had him on antibiotics within the first few days of his life. Yeah, which just breaks my heart. Yeah. But knowing this and getting in, you know, really working hard to get those diverse fibers in and I've even o you know given them boxes of the balance because the kids think it's their orange juice in the morning. So it's safe enough for kids, it's safe enough for pregnant women. it's pregn it it's safe enough for everybody because it's a natural nutraceutical. speaker-0: Okay, as we kinda close out the show, we're getting to the end of our time. We're getting pretty we just got a few minutes left. The can you just talk about the new product launch with the new balance and the what the flavor and what they've done? There there's some things there that need to be talked about real quick. speaker-1: Yeah, and I just know kind of a limited amount of it. We've added a they've added the apple pectin in because they know that pectin is a really good piece of it, as well as the apple cider vinegar. the the orange in the mixed berry are still fabulous, but they've just kind of value added a little bit to this new apple flavor one. It thickens a little slower, like the Orange balance, you kind of got to mix it and chug it down because it gets a little thick, and then I add more water to it or whatever. But with this apple balance, it's going to thicken a little bit later. So you can drink it down. It's not quite so thick. So if people have texture issues, that's one. And then it has the the added bonus of the pectin, which makes it slow down through the gut. It goes a little slower, so it gets all of the different microbiome. in the large intestine and the small intestine and all of those, so it's adding that fuel at a at a more easy pace, I guess, is my understanding. speaker-0: Right. Well, I would assume that if it doesn't get thickened as much, they've maybe created a balance between the soluble and insoluble for you know, 'cause they want to build the gut, because insoluble builds the gut. Soluble creates that fullness. So they they're speaker-1: That viscosity yes. speaker-0: probably doing some science there. We need to actually learn more about the the just launched it, so yeah. We're just in learning mode too, right? speaker-1: Yeah. And they really encourage you take it before your largest meal. Well, I I a lot of people say, I forget to take the balance. And so I say, just take it in the morning. Get that get that those healthy little few feedings to your microbiome any time of the day. But having it before your largest meal, it keeps the carbohydrates down. So if I'm gonna go out to dinner and I don't really know exactly what is in the food I'm eating, that's when I want to have a balance for sure before my meal. speaker-0: Well, I know for me there's many days that I'll have two, maybe even three. Yep. We have heard of other people that in our sphere that are doing three and four balances a day because they want that fiber. And speaker-1: Well, there's also the healing piece. So it's kinda depends on what your goals are, what you're wanting to do, you know, and di all diabetics really should be having at least two a day because it's ke the goal is to keep that blood sugar low. We gotta get those we gotta get those cells insulin sensitive again because they're insensitive, they're closed up, they're locked. speaker-0: Yeah. So as we close today, and we're hoping and believing that you guys will be well within in your lives, and we just pray and encourage you to just learn on your own. And we thank you for joining us for the show. We hope this plants some seeds and helps you think and maybe go look up something, start reading about this for your own life. but again, I think this is a series that we could probably do multiple shows on. it's just so much information. We could probably just do a show on soluble fiber and then a show on insoluble fiber, though, you know, whatever. And I it just seems like there's so much here to learn. and it goes right along with what Unicity as a company has come up with as a protocol. They they were on this and have, you know, they have some good guidance for, you know, is just a way to help you and help you in your life. So again, thanks for joining us. We're just grateful. And we we just invite you back and we'll do another show next Thursday. And we just we just thank you for joining us and we appreciate you.
