- 0:00Speaker 1: Patty and Cottonwood needs a puppy. Pat In Cottonwood get
- 0:04Speaker 1: down here, there's one.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Look at these little guys.
- 0:07Speaker 1: These are are they all guys?
- 0:09Speaker 3: No, we have two boys and three girls.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Yeah. This is Julia Olvastad. She's with the Humane Society
- 0:15Speaker 2: of u Dahi. Tell the story about these puppies.
- 0:19Speaker 4: So these are part of the group of over one
- 0:21Speaker 4: hundred dogs from the Avenue hoard. It turns out they
- 0:25Speaker 4: were backyard breeders selling sick puppies. Salty County Animal Services
- 0:30Speaker 4: got in there and removed the puppies after the neighbor.
- 0:34Speaker 4: You know, the neighbor did a great job. The neighbor
- 0:36Speaker 4: was actually the hero here, saying this isn't right. Something
- 0:39Speaker 4: is wrong here, Please come and get some help. I
- 0:42Speaker 4: want to show you how resilient these little guys are.
- 0:44Speaker 3: They are amazing. These do not act like hoarded puppies,
- 0:47Speaker 3: sick puppies. They're happy. They're wonderful. I mean.
- 0:51Speaker 4: And the one that Carrie is holding, this little black one, Loadstone,
- 0:54Speaker 4: she was the shyest of the bunch and now she's like, Hi,
- 0:57Speaker 4: how's it going. The resilience of these little guys is
- 1:00Speaker 4: absolutely astounding.
- 1:02Speaker 2: No, they're just.
- 1:04Speaker 5: They're really charming little dogs. There was a feather duster
- 1:11Speaker 5: on the floor over here that somebody been yeah, like
- 1:14Speaker 5: somebody dusts in here, But it was on the floor,
- 1:16Speaker 5: and one of the puppies found it, and they two
- 1:19Speaker 5: of them, I think, got together and dragged it back
- 1:21Speaker 5: into their kennel.
- 1:23Speaker 2: What we've got something.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Yeah, they're hilarious the way they work together.
- 1:26Speaker 4: I was just telling you guys earlier that this little terrier,
- 1:30Speaker 4: the one at Bill's feet, her name is City Creek.
- 1:32Speaker 4: We call her Ceci. She is the sort of the
- 1:35Speaker 4: naughty one of the bunch. She's the one who plans
- 1:37Speaker 4: all the evil escapades. And she managed to break out
- 1:41Speaker 4: of their ex pen while I was sleeping the other
- 1:43Speaker 4: night and led all the other puppies to rampage through
- 1:45Speaker 4: the houses I slept. Wonderful hilarious puppies. Each has such
- 1:49Speaker 4: a distinct personality.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Is hilarious.
- 1:51Speaker 5: This one, this one right here, has caught a glimpse
- 1:54Speaker 5: of its own reflection that in that and it's trying
- 1:57Speaker 5: to figure out who's who.
- 1:58Speaker 2: That other dog is.
- 1:59Speaker 3: No one said Parley is the smartest dog.
- 2:01Speaker 4: I Parley p. Pratt is maybe not the smartest of
- 2:04Speaker 4: the bunch. Gina just set down our favorite little dust
- 2:07Speaker 4: mop here. She is Fairmont. She's a marvelous little dog.
- 2:11Speaker 3: You can see.
- 2:11Speaker 4: These are not the same litter right, they're not litter mats.
- 2:14Speaker 4: They were all from the same home, so we felt
- 2:15Speaker 4: comfortable calling.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Now I'm the same age.
- 2:18Speaker 3: They're similar ages.
- 2:19Speaker 4: They all have Chihuahua in them, but they're mixed with
- 2:22Speaker 4: other things. We've got a couple that look like they've
- 2:23Speaker 4: got some shitsu in them. We got maybe, yeah, we
- 2:27Speaker 4: might have some Chewini. We've got our little foxy friend here.
- 2:30Speaker 4: They are hysterical though. I just have enjoyed and Bill
- 2:33Speaker 4: knows I am not a little dog person, and I'm
- 2:36Speaker 4: one hundred percent not a puppy person. But these guys
- 2:38Speaker 4: have brought me great joy at my house the last
- 2:40Speaker 4: couple of weeks, and hopefully they'll bring their new people
- 2:43Speaker 4: more joy.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Now they're healthy. Yeah, they've been been checked out by
- 2:47Speaker 1: BET they have.
- 2:48Speaker 4: The reason they weren't my house was because we knew
- 2:50Speaker 4: there was parvo exposure in this home. Hit the news
- 2:53Speaker 4: that the breeder had been selling parvo puppies, and so
- 2:58Speaker 4: we wanted to make sure that we covered that. In fact,
- 3:00Speaker 4: we did have a litter of puppies that we brought
- 3:03Speaker 4: from this home that did have parvo. We had to
- 3:06Speaker 4: hospitalize one of them. It was pretty significant. So I
- 3:09Speaker 4: wanted to get all the rest of the puppies out
- 3:10Speaker 4: of the shelter so they would be out of harm's way,
- 3:13Speaker 4: and unfortunately, sometimes the only way to do that is
- 3:15Speaker 4: to take them to your own house.
- 3:17Speaker 5: For those who didn't hear tell us the story of
- 3:20Speaker 5: this house, yeah, they found and what the conditions were.
- 3:25Speaker 4: So they haven't talked a lot about what was going
- 3:27Speaker 4: on inside the house. The initial news reports were ninety
- 3:31Speaker 4: seven dogs and one tortoise.
- 3:32Speaker 3: Everybody wants to know about the tourtot. I can't tell
- 3:34Speaker 3: you about the tortoise, no clue.
- 3:38Speaker 4: But they had to continue going back and setting traps,
- 3:40Speaker 4: and I understand they picked up another seven to nine dogs,
- 3:43Speaker 4: but they had to trap.
- 3:45Speaker 3: So as an Avenue's home.
- 3:47Speaker 4: Again, they haven't said a ton about the conditions inside
- 3:50Speaker 4: the home, but I will tell you other than being
- 3:52Speaker 4: dirty and being parvo exposed, they were in fairly decent
- 3:56Speaker 4: condition for that many amazing and again I don't think
- 4:01Speaker 4: that that says anything about the care they receive so
- 4:03Speaker 4: much as their own resilience.
- 4:05Speaker 3: They're wonderful little dogs. Lots of adults, lots.
- 4:08Speaker 4: And lots of puppies, almost all of them Chihuahua mixes.
- 4:13Speaker 4: So what's interesting and what was kind of our first
- 4:16Speaker 4: clue is that they were intentionally bred. Is the variety, Like,
- 4:19Speaker 4: look at just what I've brought here, and when you
- 4:22Speaker 4: look at the total of them, there were no adult
- 4:24Speaker 4: Shitsuos that were found in this group, So why do
- 4:26Speaker 4: we have shitsoo mixes?
- 4:27Speaker 1: So that means they're pairing up with somebody else.
- 4:30Speaker 3: That would be my guess. That would be my guess.
- 4:32Speaker 4: And then we have a bunch of fancy merle type puppies,
- 4:34Speaker 4: which is, you know, very desirable coat pattern.
- 4:38Speaker 3: They're trouble. Sorry, guys, this is this is a lot.
- 4:40Speaker 1: We got a poop over here.
- 4:41Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I'm not surprised, sorry about that. We got
- 4:44Speaker 3: a brown a brown out care.
- 4:47Speaker 5: So, if people are interested in in adopting some of
- 4:50Speaker 5: these dogs, can they adopt more than one?
- 4:53Speaker 4: Usually we don't recommend that because it's very difficult to
- 4:56Speaker 4: give adequate attention to two puppies at the same time,
- 4:59Speaker 4: and so you end up with behavioral problems because you
- 5:01Speaker 4: you simply raise them as a batch and they have
- 5:03Speaker 4: some kind of weird codependency.
- 5:06Speaker 3: It is possible if you have the time and the plan.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Thank you sorry about that.
- 5:11Speaker 1: It happens.
- 5:12Speaker 3: It does happen.
- 5:15Speaker 4: So our recommendation is usually that you get one at
- 5:18Speaker 4: a time, raise them well, and then adopt a second
- 5:20Speaker 4: dog if that's what you're after. So three of these puppies,
- 5:23Speaker 4: the little Chiuaha mixes so our little foxy friend Tanner,
- 5:29Speaker 4: our little Parley p Pratt, and the terrier, our little
- 5:32Speaker 4: terrier City Creek Sec will be up for adoption today
- 5:35Speaker 4: and the two little dust mops need a few more
- 5:37Speaker 4: days of foster care and then they'll be up for
- 5:38Speaker 4: ap that come on down to the Humane Society, so
- 5:42Speaker 4: come and meet them, see who might be the right
- 5:44Speaker 4: one for you. They've had two sets of vaccines, de wormers,
- 5:47Speaker 4: they've you know, been held through you know, parvo exposure times.
- 5:50Speaker 3: We're not worried about parvo.
- 5:52Speaker 4: They have microchips, they have been spade and neotered most importantly,
- 5:57Speaker 4: so we want to make sure that everything they're you know,
- 5:59Speaker 4: they're gonna need is and then we just want the
- 6:01Speaker 4: new adopter to follow up on the vaccine series to
- 6:03Speaker 4: keep them protected over time.
- 6:04Speaker 2: So you can go to where is the Humane Society.
- 6:06Speaker 4: Were out Murray forty two forty two South three hundred
- 6:09Speaker 4: Western Murray. Adoptions opens at eleven am and we're open
- 6:12Speaker 4: through seven pm. Come on down today. I don't expect
- 6:15Speaker 4: these guys to last very long as you might imagine.
- 6:17Speaker 4: They're incredibly cute, very very cute.
- 6:20Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, small.
- 6:21Speaker 4: Breed puppies are very desirable, and these are phenomenal puppies
- 6:25Speaker 4: because there if you live in an apartment, yes, it's
- 6:28Speaker 4: easy to keep them there.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Yeah, it's almost like having a rat.
- 6:33Speaker 1: And Bill means that is a cop having had rats.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Bill means that we got another pood.
- 6:41Speaker 4: You know, it's my fault. I should have brought a
- 6:43Speaker 4: potty pad. I was thinking they could make it for
- 6:45Speaker 4: five minutes. But they are puppies, and I did just
- 6:47Speaker 4: feed them.
- 6:48Speaker 3: It's on me. It's on me, guys, that'll happen.
- 6:54Speaker 2: So the Humane Society again, what's the address.
- 6:58Speaker 4: Forty two forty two South three hundred weston Murray. We're
- 7:01Speaker 4: right off IVET fifteen, pretty centrally located, easy to get to.
- 7:05Speaker 4: Please come down. Even if these puppies aren't for you.
- 7:07Speaker 4: If you're like me and you're a big dog person,
- 7:09Speaker 4: big dogs are They're driving a struggle bus right now. People,
- 7:13Speaker 4: as as Gina mentioned, you're living in smaller places.
- 7:15Speaker 3: People can't affordize.
- 7:18Speaker 1: You have an animal at your new plate.
- 7:20Speaker 4: Exactly, or you're moving in with family because you can't
- 7:22Speaker 4: afford your rent anymore. So cats are having a great time.
- 7:25Speaker 4: Cats have no problem getting adopted into smaller spaces. Small animals,
- 7:29Speaker 4: small breed dogs, big dogs are struggling. People don't have
- 7:32Speaker 4: backyards they feel they should have.
- 7:34Speaker 3: They feel like don't have time.
- 7:36Speaker 4: And let's face it, big dogs are more expensive because
- 7:38Speaker 4: they cost more to feed, they cost.
- 7:40Speaker 3: More for veterinary everything.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:42Speaker 4: Yeah, So if you have it in your heart that
- 7:45Speaker 4: you're like, gosh, I really do want a big dog
- 7:47Speaker 4: and I can make this work, please come down. We
- 7:49Speaker 4: have some really excellent dogs. So even if little dogs
- 7:51Speaker 4: are not your thing, we can hook you up.
- 7:54Speaker 3: We can hook you got the yard.
- 7:55Speaker 5: Yeah, it's it's These puppies are great. But I've been
- 7:59Speaker 5: to the Humane Society and seeing some of the big
- 8:01Speaker 5: dogs they have there and they're they're all just very
- 8:05Speaker 5: like you'll take let me.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Just take me home, Just give me a chance.
- 8:09Speaker 4: Man, Just come on, I'll just get right in your car.
- 8:12Speaker 4: That's when you take them up for a walk. It's
- 8:14Speaker 4: really sort of, you know, endearing. You'll be out there
- 8:17Speaker 4: walking them and they're like searching the parking lot like.
- 8:19Speaker 3: We're which car is yours?
- 8:20Speaker 1: We'll just we'll just go help right in.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Come on.
- 8:24Speaker 4: We do have another program that we just started. If
- 8:26Speaker 4: you're not ready and you're like, no, no, I need
- 8:28Speaker 4: some dog time, but I'm not ready, we have a
- 8:31Speaker 4: doggy day outfield trip program.
- 8:33Speaker 3: So come down, take a dog for a walk, go
- 8:35Speaker 3: for a long time, great, go out for a pop cup.
- 8:38Speaker 4: Post them on your social media so you'll get some
- 8:41Speaker 4: doggie time, they get some more exposure that this program
- 8:44Speaker 4: is awesome for everybody, and it helps the dogs get
- 8:47Speaker 4: adopted more readily. So come on down. Honestly, it's people think, oh,
- 8:51Speaker 4: shelters are sad places.
- 8:53Speaker 3: They're actually not.
- 8:54Speaker 1: We're sitting here in a room full of puppets.
- 8:56Speaker 3: Nothing sad about this.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Katie. Katie's really smart. She's trying to keep them all
- 9:00Speaker 2: rounded up in one spot so.
- 9:02Speaker 3: They can't poop in the corners.
- 9:04Speaker 1: She's getting them in the camp.
- 9:10Speaker 5: And of course then what poop Katie did pick up
- 9:13Speaker 5: and just put in the trash can there? They keep
- 9:15Speaker 5: trying to now get into the trash Yeah, yeah.
- 9:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I can smell it. We got to get it out. Yeah,
- 9:21Speaker 3: we got to figure out what to do with that. Now,
- 9:22Speaker 3: I'll take that with me on my way out. I'm
- 9:25Speaker 3: used to bad smells. I work in an animal shelter.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Oh my, well, anyway, Julia, I'll just dad, thank you
- 9:31Speaker 2: so much.
- 9:31Speaker 3: Oh thanks for letting me be here, I mean.
- 9:33Speaker 2: Human society website.
- 9:34Speaker 4: Yeah, so you tak Humane dot org lots to see
- 9:37Speaker 4: there you can see pictures of all our adoptable animals.
- 9:39Speaker 4: We have people that just look at the site constantly,
- 9:42Speaker 4: and we'll call and ask about animals, all the information
- 9:45Speaker 4: about fostering.
- 9:46Speaker 3: Thank you for fostering that broken leg kitten.
- 9:48Speaker 4: And if you want to give me your address, I
- 9:50Speaker 4: could drop by broken leg kittens anytime.
- 9:52Speaker 3: I know that might not be a safe idea, but.
- 9:55Speaker 2: A very sweet cat by the way.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Oh, I'm so glad. I'm so glad. Volunteering is certainly fun.
- 10:00Speaker 4: Bill has has done the clinic window before, which is
- 10:03Speaker 4: always a hoot.
- 10:05Speaker 3: But please get involved in whatever way you can.
- 10:07Speaker 5: We appreciate it, all right, thank you, thank you very much,
- 10:10Speaker 5: oh cuties.
