- 2:38Speaker 7: it's Senator Amy Nicole Grady.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Good morning, how are you.
- 2:41Speaker 8: I'm good morning. I'm good, Dave.
- 2:43Speaker 7: I am doing fine. Hope you and your family had
- 2:45Speaker 7: a happy holiday season.
- 2:48Speaker 8: We did, We definitely did, and the kids are excited.
- 2:51Speaker 8: They still have this whole week off of school. So
- 2:54Speaker 8: my eight year old keeps asking how many more days
- 2:56Speaker 8: do I go back to school? So I said, you
- 2:58Speaker 8: stop another week, You're fine, be.
- 3:00Speaker 7: Fine, And if the weather forecast holds, then they may
- 3:03Speaker 7: get a couple of more days off next week.
- 3:04Speaker 8: I may they get excited. Yeah, they get excited about
- 3:07Speaker 8: that too.
- 3:08Speaker 7: I know, Senator. I mentioned this on the air a
- 3:10Speaker 7: couple of weeks ago, that you've been hobbling around here
- 3:14Speaker 7: as late. We're covering from a little knee surgery. Is
- 3:16Speaker 7: that right, I have?
- 3:18Speaker 8: Hobbling is a good word, Dave. I'm definitely not moving
- 3:20Speaker 8: as fast as I like to. I'm twelve days out
- 3:23Speaker 8: from totalknee replacement and things are going really well. I
- 3:26Speaker 8: just you know, I don't like being down. I don't
- 3:29Speaker 8: have time to be down. So even though I'm being
- 3:32Speaker 8: told I'm a head of schedule, I still feel like
- 3:33Speaker 8: I've got got a long way to go.
- 3:35Speaker 7: Was this an old teaching injury? Maybe from dusting erasers
- 3:38Speaker 7: the wrong way or something?
- 3:40Speaker 8: You know. Actually, I've had terrible knees. My knees are
- 3:43Speaker 8: a lot older than the rest of me, and so
- 3:45Speaker 8: I've had four knee surgeries prior to this. In my life.
- 3:47Speaker 8: I had both acls reconstructed. I just played hard when
- 3:50Speaker 8: I was young. You know, I was into all kinds
- 3:51Speaker 8: of sports, and I will tell you when you're younger,
- 3:54Speaker 8: you know that if you don't take care of yourself,
- 3:56Speaker 8: that you know, eventually in your forties, you'll have to
- 3:58Speaker 8: have total knee replacements. So I learned that the hard way,
- 4:02Speaker 8: and hopefully, you know, hopefully this will give me a
- 4:04Speaker 8: new And I told my kids at school. When I
- 4:06Speaker 8: come back and I'm all healed up, I said, you know,
- 4:08Speaker 8: I'm maybe faster than ever.
- 4:09Speaker 7: You never know, you might be able to catch them
- 4:11Speaker 7: now you know they decided to run around. You know,
- 4:13Speaker 7: Miss Grady has got new nees. She's like the bionic woman.
- 4:16Speaker 7: I mean, she's already she can catch us.
- 4:18Speaker 8: Now, that's what I tell them.
- 4:20Speaker 7: I want to talk about the year that was twenty
- 4:21Speaker 7: twenty four for you, maybe some of the legislative highs
- 4:24Speaker 7: and lows and whatever else may be.
- 4:26Speaker 2: On your mind.
- 4:27Speaker 8: Well, you know, twenty twenty four. I feel like, gosh,
- 4:30Speaker 8: it went by so fast, Dave. Don't you feel that way.
- 4:32Speaker 8: I think as we get older, we noticed that things
- 4:34Speaker 8: go by so much quicker than they did. One thing
- 4:38Speaker 8: that I'm focused on for our legislative session this year
- 4:41Speaker 8: is something that I focused on heavily last year in
- 4:43Speaker 8: twenty twenty four that unfortunately didn't make it to the
- 4:45Speaker 8: finish line. I was really frustrated over it. It was the
- 4:48Speaker 8: discipline bill. I don't remember if you know, if you
- 4:50Speaker 8: remember that, I think I talked on your show about it,
- 4:52Speaker 8: that elementary discipline bill, you know, and I was really
- 4:55Speaker 8: frustrated that didn't make it. It died on the last
- 4:57Speaker 8: night of session. But things have come up in the
- 4:59Speaker 8: last year than I've learned that I knew that bill
- 5:02Speaker 8: wasn't perfect to begin with. It was something that I
- 5:04Speaker 8: thought gave us a start that has more people have
- 5:07Speaker 8: become involved and have taken notice of it, and we
- 5:09Speaker 8: have more input, which I think this past year, more
- 5:13Speaker 8: input into it, they can give us a better bill
- 5:16Speaker 8: for this upcoming session. So I'm pretty excited about that.
- 5:18Speaker 8: That's you know, that was a low and a high
- 5:21Speaker 8: point because you know, the Lord works in mysterious ways,
- 5:24Speaker 8: and so at that point that I thought I was
- 5:26Speaker 8: frustrated we didn't get something passed. Maybe it was for
- 5:28Speaker 8: the better because it got more people involved to try
- 5:31Speaker 8: to find a solution that would would be better. Maybe,
- 5:34Speaker 8: does that make sense?
- 5:35Speaker 7: Yeah, And Senator Grady again, we're talking with Senator m
- 5:38Speaker 7: Nicole Grady. For those that may not have heard you
- 5:40Speaker 7: on the show or heard some of your your discussions
- 5:42Speaker 7: at the Capitol during the session. What exactly is the issue?
- 5:45Speaker 7: I mean, I know there's ten thousand issues with this
- 5:48Speaker 7: one in the schools, but particularly what do you see
- 5:51Speaker 7: as the biggest issues and what needs to be done
- 5:53Speaker 7: about them?
- 5:54Speaker 8: You know, the biggest issues, David. The teachers don't feel
- 5:58Speaker 8: like they have a say in if they feel unsafe
- 6:01Speaker 8: or they feel that a student is creating an unsafe
- 6:04Speaker 8: environment for other learners in their classroom. A lot of
- 6:07Speaker 8: times they'll send a child out and they're sent right
- 6:09Speaker 8: back in and they don't feel And I'm talking about
- 6:13Speaker 8: violent kids, So I'm talking about throwing desks, throwing things, hitting, punching, kicking, biting,
- 6:18Speaker 8: you know, something that people shouldn't professionals shouldn't have to
- 6:20Speaker 8: put up with. And so this bill would give teachers
- 6:24Speaker 8: a say when they feel that it's unsafe in their
- 6:28Speaker 8: classroom or the students that they they have in their
- 6:30Speaker 8: classroom are unsafe and cannot learn, And it removes the
- 6:34Speaker 8: child from the classroom immediately, and it makes the county
- 6:38Speaker 8: do a they have to do pending a Oh goodness,
- 6:44Speaker 8: I get my loss for what the what the loss
- 6:45Speaker 8: of words are, but an assessment of risk and that
- 6:48Speaker 8: child can come back. Yes, yeah, so and there's a
- 6:51Speaker 8: lot more things involved with that too. Uh what what
- 6:54Speaker 8: you know what happens in each specific case. But it
- 6:57Speaker 8: allows the teachers to say, you know that the hey,
- 6:59Speaker 8: I you know, I can't do my job because this
- 7:01Speaker 8: child is a danger to other students. And so that's
- 7:04Speaker 8: what we're trying to look at. We're not looking at
- 7:06Speaker 8: these kids, Dave, who are just who are just causing problems,
- 7:09Speaker 8: as being disruptions when it comes to just being class
- 7:11Speaker 8: clowns or you know, just being those stinkers. We're not
- 7:13Speaker 8: talking about that.
- 7:14Speaker 7: Work easy with that.
- 7:15Speaker 8: Really, most of them, most of you were one of.
- 7:17Speaker 7: The most of those go into radio.
- 7:20Speaker 8: Oh I'm sure they do.
- 7:22Speaker 7: But again, yeah, this is a totally different situation. I mean, yeah,
- 7:25Speaker 7: I get and I listened and I heard some of
- 7:27Speaker 7: the testimony from some of the teachers, which I'm sure
- 7:29Speaker 7: you know you you recalled as well. I mean you've
- 7:32Speaker 7: witnessed it because you are a classroom teacher. I mean,
- 7:34Speaker 7: this is not as we said I was kind of
- 7:36Speaker 7: joking about. This is not chewing gum, this is not
- 7:38Speaker 7: talking too loud. These are in many cases, these kids
- 7:42Speaker 7: that are violent and a lot of times parents, if
- 7:45Speaker 7: they're even part of the situation, grandparents or whatever, send
- 7:49Speaker 7: them to school and say, hey, I can't deal with them.
- 7:52Speaker 7: You deal with them, and and it's it creates an
- 7:55Speaker 7: environment if you've got twenty five twenty six kids in
- 7:57Speaker 7: the classroom, it's not fair to those other kids either, No,
- 8:00Speaker 7: it's not.
- 8:01Speaker 8: We have to protect the kids that come there to learn.
- 8:03Speaker 8: And and you know a lot of times these parents
- 8:04Speaker 8: are grandparents that are raising these kids. They have they
- 8:06Speaker 8: have reached out to lots of people to try to
- 8:08Speaker 8: get help for these children. They have nowhere else to go,
- 8:11Speaker 8: you know, and the school system just isn't equipped to
- 8:13Speaker 8: deal with these types of behaviors. Are seeing now like
- 8:15Speaker 8: there's you know, there are not things that we can
- 8:18Speaker 8: do for certain types of behaviors, and they need some
- 8:21Speaker 8: different mental health help that schools can't provide. You know,
- 8:24Speaker 8: we have to we have to find a line, you know,
- 8:26Speaker 8: when we're when we're teaching and when we have our
- 8:28Speaker 8: school systems is what are our schools for?
- 8:30Speaker 2: You know?
- 8:30Speaker 8: What was the main purpose of our public education system
- 8:33Speaker 8: is to educate? And when we can't do that, we
- 8:36Speaker 8: have to figure out a way that we can that
- 8:38Speaker 8: we can work it around, so we can, you know.
- 8:40Speaker 8: So it's without tossing these kids to the side. So
- 8:43Speaker 8: that's the tricky part is you want to provide them
- 8:45Speaker 8: the help they need and the resources they need without
- 8:48Speaker 8: just tossing them to the side and saying we're forgetting
- 8:49Speaker 8: about you, you know, because that's definitely not what we want
- 8:51Speaker 8: to do.
- 8:52Speaker 7: Talking to Stu Senderami Nicole Grady. But they've valance showing
- 8:54Speaker 7: five eighty line presents a department by Generations Physical Therapy,
- 8:57Speaker 7: the leading provider of out patient PT and the try

- 9:05Speaker 7: the Generation's PT dot com define the closest location near
- 9:08Speaker 7: you center. As we headed to the new session, there
- 9:11Speaker 7: is going to be a new Senate president and Randy Smith.
- 9:13Speaker 7: Your thoughts there.
- 9:15Speaker 8: I like Randy. Randy is a really good, honest fella,
- 9:18Speaker 8: and I think, you know, the majority of our caucus
- 9:20Speaker 8: voted for Andy Beer Center president, and I think that
- 9:22Speaker 8: speaks volumes. I think he'll go in and he'll try
- 9:25Speaker 8: to do things the right way. I really do. I
- 9:26Speaker 8: think he'll try to do things the right way. He'll
- 9:28Speaker 8: try to be fair, and I think that that matters
- 9:31Speaker 8: to the members of our caucus. And I'm you know,
- 9:33Speaker 8: I'm curious to see how things go. I have talked
- 9:35Speaker 8: to him on several occasions on how as he's setting
- 9:38Speaker 8: things up, and I think, like I said, he's he's
- 9:40Speaker 8: trying to do what's right. And we'll see, you know,
- 9:43Speaker 8: we'll see with new leadership, there's always some kinks. So
- 9:45Speaker 8: you know, I'm going to remain an Education Chair and
- 9:48Speaker 8: I'm there to help him in whatever way he needs
- 9:50Speaker 8: me to.
- 9:51Speaker 7: You know, Senator, there's gonna be a lot of a
- 9:52Speaker 7: lot of changes around the Capitol of the new year.
- 9:54Speaker 7: We have a new governor, of course, and Patrick Morrissey,
- 9:57Speaker 7: the current Attorney General. All of the Board of Public
- 9:59Speaker 7: Work except for the Agriculture Commissioner have now changed. New
- 10:03Speaker 7: Secretary of State, a new Attorney General, new auditor, so.
- 10:06Speaker 2: On and so forth.
- 10:07Speaker 7: A lot of changes around the Capitol building.
- 10:10Speaker 8: Yes, there are a lot of new faces, a lot
- 10:12Speaker 8: of a lot of things will change the way they're done.
- 10:14Speaker 8: You know, it is going to be and we have
- 10:16Speaker 8: you know, in our own in our own body. I
- 10:18Speaker 8: think we have about eight eight new faces, possibly any
- 10:22Speaker 8: in the Senate, you know, so that's a big change
- 10:25Speaker 8: as well. So the way things will work and you know,
- 10:28Speaker 8: the dynamic of how things will work well most definitely change.
- 10:31Speaker 8: So I'm I'm interested to see how that goes. You know,
- 10:34Speaker 8: it could, it could be a good thing, and it could,
- 10:38Speaker 8: you know, like I said, have some kings. But we'll
- 10:39Speaker 8: you know, we'll see there's not really anything we can
- 10:41Speaker 8: do about it rather than try to make it work,
- 10:43Speaker 8: you know.
- 10:44Speaker 7: Other other than the discipline bill that you read from Stirlier,
- 10:47Speaker 7: what are some of the things that you would like
- 10:49Speaker 7: to see accomplished or or looked at in the new session.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Senator.
- 10:52Speaker 8: You know we've been all this time. I know, Dave,
- 10:55Speaker 8: you probably get tired of hearing me talk about education things.
- 10:58Speaker 8: But I am the education chare and I'm a teacher,
- 10:59Speaker 8: and so that is my passion. But one thing I've
- 11:02Speaker 8: been working on this year that I'd love to see
- 11:04Speaker 8: us get accomplished is we have that funding formula, the
- 11:07Speaker 8: school aid funding formula that has not been really really
- 11:12Speaker 8: revamped since the early nineties, and so we have a
- 11:16Speaker 8: funding formula. It's funding our schools based on things that
- 11:19Speaker 8: we're needed in the nineties, and now our schools are
- 11:21Speaker 8: so different in the things we need and how we
- 11:23Speaker 8: operate are so different that we really need to change that.
- 11:27Speaker 8: And so there have been several of us who've been
- 11:29Speaker 8: working on it for the past year, trying to change
- 11:31Speaker 8: some things. The only problem is it's a seven step
- 11:34Speaker 8: formula that has about fifteen the sixteen stuff, so once
- 11:39Speaker 8: you change one, it makes another. One change is we're
- 11:41Speaker 8: trying to make it a little friendlier for counties, but
- 11:43Speaker 8: also to make it student centered. And so that's one
- 11:46Speaker 8: thing that I hope that we can finish, get finished
- 11:49Speaker 8: and get across the finish line at least part way,
- 11:51Speaker 8: so we can make some changes that can help counties,
- 11:53Speaker 8: you know, with these these riffs and things like that.
- 11:55Speaker 8: At the end of the year, it's all based on
- 11:57Speaker 8: that formula, and so we have to figure out out,
- 12:00Speaker 8: you know, what is really needed for each canyon, what's
- 12:02Speaker 8: needed to make sure that that money really trickles down
- 12:05Speaker 8: to the students in the classroom. And so that's that's
- 12:07Speaker 8: a primary focus for me.
- 12:09Speaker 7: Said naming Nicole Grady. We wish you the best in
- 12:11Speaker 7: your continued recovery. They say you're ahead of schedule. You're
- 12:14Speaker 7: you've always been an overachiever.
- 12:16Speaker 8: Right, Well, I feel that way, I hope, So I
- 12:19Speaker 8: hope I remain ahead of schedule day because I don't
- 12:21Speaker 8: have time to have a step back.
- 12:22Speaker 7: Well, and I can see you now, I mean, you
- 12:24Speaker 7: know when when secession gavels in. I mean, you've got
- 12:26Speaker 7: to be able to navigate those steps and the whole deal.
- 12:29Speaker 7: But you got this right, I do.
- 12:31Speaker 8: Yeah. And I have my little granny walker just in
- 12:33Speaker 8: case I need it. I am, I said, I'm going
- 12:35Speaker 8: to put a horn and a basket in front of
- 12:36Speaker 8: us so I can carry all my things with me.
- 12:38Speaker 8: So if you see me in the in the Capitol
- 12:40Speaker 8: halls with that, you know, just give me a wave.
- 12:42Speaker 7: And I know you. I could see you like building
- 12:44Speaker 7: ramps and jumping things like that and and getting and
- 12:46Speaker 7: getting thrown out of the Capitol. Uh.
- 12:48Speaker 6: But to Senator, my.
- 12:49Speaker 8: Physical therapist put frown on that.
- 12:51Speaker 7: All right, Senator Amy. To Cole Grady, I appreciate. We'll

- 17:57Speaker 3: I like that.
- 17:59Speaker 7: Before we getting into anything else, you and I've known
- 18:02Speaker 7: you for a long time, you are, in addition to
- 18:05Speaker 7: the things you do in politics, no matter what you did,
- 18:08Speaker 7: you're going to be a history guy.
- 18:09Speaker 3: Because you are.
- 18:10Speaker 7: You're quite the historian, you know, and not just Republican.
- 18:14Speaker 7: I mean we're talking about US history in general. I
- 18:16Speaker 7: want to spend some time talking with you about former
- 18:19Speaker 7: President Jimmy Carter, who passed away yesterday at the age
- 18:22Speaker 7: of one hundred.
- 18:23Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 18:23Speaker 3: So it's interesting.
- 18:24Speaker 5: I mean, here, i am a leader in the Republican Party,
- 18:28Speaker 5: but I'm coming on the day after this event has
- 18:31Speaker 5: happened in our country, where President Jimmy Carter has passed away.
- 18:34Speaker 5: I want to give you an interesting thought that maybe
- 18:37Speaker 5: a lot of people haven't thought about, but about two
- 18:39Speaker 5: thirds of Americans alive today have never experienced a democratic
- 18:45Speaker 5: president passing away. The vast majority of this country has
- 18:49Speaker 5: never seen this happen. The last time a Democratic president
- 18:52Speaker 5: passed away was in nineteen seventy three. And I did
- 18:55Speaker 5: some calculations last night, and only about twenty nine percent
- 18:57Speaker 5: of Americans alive today were alive to when Lenna Johnson
- 19:02Speaker 5: passed away. So this is something very new. I have
- 19:05Speaker 5: never witnessed a Democratic president passing away in my life.
- 19:07Speaker 5: Every president that has passed away has been a Republican.
- 19:09Speaker 7: I never really thought about that, but I was alive
- 19:12Speaker 7: in nineteen seventy three, but I do not remember.
- 19:14Speaker 3: You couldn't remember.
- 19:15Speaker 7: I don't remember that. The thing I remember most I
- 19:18Speaker 7: guess about Jimmy Carter.
- 19:21Speaker 11: And was that.
- 19:22Speaker 7: You know, I was born in nineteen seventy so I
- 19:24Speaker 7: have vague memories of the Watergate scandal, mainly my mother
- 19:29Speaker 7: complaining because it was on every channel and after work
- 19:31Speaker 7: she couldn't watch anything but Watergate. But I don't remember
- 19:34Speaker 7: a whole lot of it. I do remember Gerald Ford
- 19:36Speaker 7: being president, but the first president that I remember the
- 19:39Speaker 7: full term of was Jimmy Carter. I liketed a nineteen
- 19:43Speaker 7: seventy six. Of course, he defeated Gerald Ford and likeded
- 19:45Speaker 7: in nineteen seventy six. That's the And I was even
- 19:49Speaker 7: a you know, I was that kid, second or third grade.
- 19:51Speaker 7: It was such a news junkie, and I was reading
- 19:53Speaker 7: everything I could about politics and the news and so
- 19:56Speaker 7: on and so forth. But Carter is the first president
- 19:58Speaker 7: that I can say, I fully that I do remember
- 20:00Speaker 7: his his full term.
- 20:02Speaker 3: Well, I wasn't even born when he was and he
- 20:03Speaker 3: was the president, but but.
- 20:06Speaker 5: You know, he you know, as a as a Republican, obviously,
- 20:10Speaker 5: I'm gonna have a lot of disagreements with what I
- 20:13Speaker 5: read about his presidency, most notably the Iran issue.
- 20:18Speaker 3: The root of that.
- 20:19Speaker 5: Was was kind of rooted back in that era in
- 20:22Speaker 5: the late nineteen seventies, and we're still dealing with that
- 20:24Speaker 5: problem to this very day. So I have sharp disagreements
- 20:27Speaker 5: with Jimmy Carter. But with that being said, I do
- 20:29Speaker 5: want to say, since he's just passed, that I do
- 20:33Speaker 5: thank him for his service to our country, his military
- 20:35Speaker 5: service and his political service.
- 20:37Speaker 3: And also I really.
- 20:39Speaker 5: Admire the way that he even though we sharply disagreed
- 20:43Speaker 5: on most things, what we did what we did agree
- 20:45Speaker 5: on was the way that he carried himself in his faith.
- 20:50Speaker 3: He was very outspoken about his faith.
- 20:51Speaker 5: He was a Sunday school teacher all the way up
- 20:53Speaker 5: into his nineties at his little local church down there
- 20:57Speaker 5: in rural Georgia Plains, Georgia. Even his house that he
- 21:02Speaker 5: lived in down there was very I mean, you know,
- 21:04Speaker 5: it was much more humble than a lot of former presidents.
- 21:09Speaker 5: Not as much security and things like that. He lived
- 21:11Speaker 5: a more humble life. But the way that he carried
- 21:13Speaker 5: his faith on his sleeve and it was public with it.
- 21:16Speaker 5: I have a lot of admiration for that. And I've
- 21:18Speaker 5: noticed a lot of statements that come out from the
- 21:20Speaker 5: modern day Democrats. They're, of course, they're thankful for his
- 21:23Speaker 5: service and all that kind of stuff, but they don't
- 21:26Speaker 5: mention his Christian faith as much as what I think
- 21:28Speaker 5: Jimmy Carter did throughout his life. And I think that's
- 21:31Speaker 5: a little bit unfortunate because that's how he defined himself.
- 21:34Speaker 5: He defined himself as a Christian and he was very
- 21:37Speaker 5: much public about that, and that affected all of his
- 21:39Speaker 5: humanitarian work, his habitat for humanity work. He won a
- 21:43Speaker 5: Nobel Peace Prize. But all of that stuff, if you
- 21:45Speaker 5: read some of the things that he wrote, all that
- 21:47Speaker 5: stuff was rooted and grounded in his Christian faith, and
- 21:49Speaker 5: I just think that's really important. So I have a
- 21:51Speaker 5: lot of admiration for that. I commend him for that,
- 21:55Speaker 5: and of course last night I said a prayer for
- 21:57Speaker 5: his family and his loved ones as they as they
- 22:00Speaker 5: deal with their loss.
- 22:01Speaker 7: I don't know now that Jimmy Carter would be welcomed
- 22:06Speaker 7: in the National Democratic Party, and I'm not and look,
- 22:09Speaker 7: before anybody says anything, I'll say the same thing about
- 22:12Speaker 7: Ronald Reagan. There's some aspects of Ronald Reagan that would
- 22:16Speaker 7: not be welcomed. I'm not talking about you particularly, but
- 22:19Speaker 7: there are some aspects of Ronald Reaganism that wouldn't be
- 22:22Speaker 7: welcome in the modern Republican Party either. But I but
- 22:24Speaker 7: I certainly think that Jimmy Carter would probably I'm not
- 22:27Speaker 7: going to say he wouldn't be welcome. Let me back
- 22:29Speaker 7: that up a little bit. But I think that if
- 22:31Speaker 7: you had the political strategist of today like we see
- 22:34Speaker 7: on the National Democratic Party, I think that they probably
- 22:38Speaker 7: would say, yeah, you need to dial that back a
- 22:39Speaker 7: little bit.
- 22:40Speaker 5: Well, and he probably would not have Yeah, I think
- 22:43Speaker 5: I think he still belongs to the Democratic Party, and
- 22:45Speaker 5: I think from from my view, most most of the
- 22:48Speaker 5: party today would still bring him in. Maybe not in leadership,
- 22:51Speaker 5: you know, certainly not at the presidential level, but I
- 22:54Speaker 5: do think that they would because even though Jimmy Carter,
- 22:58Speaker 5: you know, had this personal faith. On the other hand,
- 23:00Speaker 5: he was a bona fide liberal. He was very very
- 23:04Speaker 5: much on the left, very very much and and and
- 23:08Speaker 5: so even even in his older life he was extremely
- 23:12Speaker 5: critical of Republican presidents and Republican policies and things like that.
- 23:16Speaker 5: He was very much on the left. There's that is
- 23:18Speaker 5: quite certain, and so I think he still would be.
- 23:21Speaker 5: He does have a place in the Democratic Party. That's
- 23:24Speaker 5: that's where he that's his home, and I think his
- 23:27Speaker 5: legacy there will remain. But his legacy as a president, obviously,
- 23:32Speaker 5: a lot of history has passed since he was president.
- 23:33Speaker 5: There's been a lot written about it. You know, it
- 23:36Speaker 5: takes maybe forty to fifty years before you could do
- 23:38Speaker 5: a really strong assessment on someone, and we're getting close
- 23:43Speaker 5: to that point now. It's been you know, it's been
- 23:45Speaker 5: quite some time since he was the president. And but look,
- 23:49Speaker 5: he you know, like I said, he lived a life.
- 23:52Speaker 5: His personal side of his life is to be admired,
- 23:55Speaker 5: and there's a lot to learn from his presidency on
- 23:58Speaker 5: maybe what to do and whatnot.
- 24:00Speaker 7: And his wife, he and his wife were married for
- 24:02Speaker 7: seventy six years.
- 24:03Speaker 3: That's amazing. And he lived to one hundred years old.
- 24:05Speaker 5: I mean that's you know, the oldest, the oldest United
- 24:08Speaker 5: States president ever now, of course in nineteen twenty four
- 24:10Speaker 5: to twenty twenty four. I want to tell you quick stories.
- 24:13Speaker 5: So when George HW. Bush, she was the last president
- 24:17Speaker 5: that passed away. When he passed away, I loaded up
- 24:20Speaker 5: my family in the evening, my entire family, my father
- 24:24Speaker 5: in law, my wife, my kids. We loaded up in
- 24:26Speaker 5: the car and we left at about We left here
- 24:29Speaker 5: about seven pm or so, and George W.
- 24:33Speaker 3: Bush, George H. W.
- 24:34Speaker 5: Bush was lying in state in the US Capitol and
- 24:36Speaker 5: his funeral was going to be the next day at
- 24:37Speaker 5: the National Cathedral. I took my family, loaded him up
- 24:40Speaker 5: in the car, and we drove from my house into
- 24:43Speaker 5: the evening all the way up to Washington, d C.
- 24:45Speaker 5: And I said, you know what, I want to get
- 24:47Speaker 5: there late. I want to get there at like one
- 24:48Speaker 5: or two am. We ended up getting there at two am.
- 24:50Speaker 5: I had to stop a few times. We got there
- 24:52Speaker 5: at two am. I said, I want to get there late.
- 24:54Speaker 5: That way we can walk through and pay our respects.
- 24:56Speaker 5: There won't be anybody there, it'll be late at night.
- 24:58Speaker 5: We get there at two am and line is backed
- 25:00Speaker 5: up at least for about twelve to fourteen blocks at
- 25:04Speaker 5: two am in the morning, which was just incredible.
- 25:07Speaker 3: But we made it.
- 25:08Speaker 5: We made it there, and then the next day we
- 25:10Speaker 5: went over to the National Cathedral in Washington, d C.
- 25:13Speaker 5: For his funeral and it was just very moving. It's
- 25:17Speaker 5: really I know they're going to do a day of
- 25:19Speaker 5: mourning for President Carter on January ninth, but you know,
- 25:24Speaker 5: I think we have to pay our respects to people
- 25:26Speaker 5: who have put themselves out there led our country, whether
- 25:29Speaker 5: we agree with them or disagree with them. At the
- 25:31Speaker 5: end of the day, when it comes to life and death,
- 25:33Speaker 5: partisanship can take a back seat. You know, this is
- 25:36Speaker 5: life we're talking about. These are people God's created people,
- 25:40Speaker 5: no matter what side of the isle they're on. And
- 25:42Speaker 5: so in this time with his passing, just like with
- 25:45Speaker 5: Bush's passing and Reagan and on back through Ford and
- 25:49Speaker 5: the rest, you know, I think it's right and appropriate
- 25:53Speaker 5: for Americans to recognize that and to mourn and just
- 25:58Speaker 5: pay their respects.
- 25:58Speaker 3: I think it's due.
- 25:59Speaker 7: I'll say this will close on Jimmy Carter. Although I
- 26:01Speaker 7: do have a couple of texts about the life of
- 26:03Speaker 7: Jimmy Carter. Many people I think are going to say,
- 26:07Speaker 7: myself included that Jimmy Carter may have been the best
- 26:10Speaker 7: person that ever, one of the best that ever occupied
- 26:15Speaker 7: the White House. He's going to go down is possibly
- 26:18Speaker 7: sadly one of the worst presidents in history, but he
- 26:20Speaker 7: is going to go down probably as one of the
- 26:22Speaker 7: best people I agree with that ever to ever hold
- 26:25Speaker 7: that office.
- 26:25Speaker 3: I think that's true.
- 26:26Speaker 5: I think him and George Washington, I think are a
- 26:28Speaker 5: step above a lot of the others that we've had
- 26:31Speaker 5: very much agree with that.
- 26:34Speaker 7: Let me knock out a couple of texts here, because
- 26:36Speaker 7: you always elicit text Tony. You've got to be a
- 26:38Speaker 7: nice You not even said anything already. People take an
- 26:41Speaker 7: issue with Texas. Dave asked Tony about his thoughts on
- 26:44Speaker 7: the MAGA in fighting over the H one B immigrants.
- 26:47Speaker 7: Seems that the billionaire Magas want their indentured servants who
- 26:50Speaker 7: will work eighty hours a week for half the money
- 26:52Speaker 7: as an American would work for bringing in immigrants to
- 26:55Speaker 7: drive down American wages. Question Mark, that's a very America
- 26:58Speaker 7: first policy, not just for working class Americans.
- 27:01Speaker 5: Well, look, I mean it's a free market society, and
- 27:04Speaker 5: the market will determine what our wages will be. One
- 27:07Speaker 5: thing I like to say, though, is I saw this
- 27:09Speaker 5: dust up in the news and on social media and
- 27:12Speaker 5: such on this immigration thing.
- 27:14Speaker 3: H one B.
- 27:16Speaker 5: I'll be honest with you, it was the holidays. I
- 27:18Speaker 5: wasn't paying real close attention and I'm with my family.
- 27:20Speaker 5: But I will say this, from what I've seen, there
- 27:22Speaker 5: are different members of the perspective the future administration that's
- 27:26Speaker 5: coming up that'll be installed in January, Donald Trump's administration.
- 27:30Speaker 5: There's members of that administration who see things differently.
- 27:32Speaker 3: I saw Vivid.
- 27:33Speaker 5: Ramaswami saying one thing. I saw Elon Musk saying another thing,
- 27:36Speaker 5: and different ones. Man, I think that when I see that,
- 27:39Speaker 5: I see strength. I see what Abraham Lincoln like. What
- 27:44Speaker 5: he put together was called a team of rivals. That's
- 27:46Speaker 5: what I see. You need people on your team. If
- 27:48Speaker 5: everybody in the room is thinking the same thing, then
- 27:50Speaker 5: somebody's not thinking. So you need a team of people
- 27:53Speaker 5: there that can give different perspectives. Elon Musk gives a
- 27:56Speaker 5: perspective on this particular issue that not a lot of
- 27:58Speaker 5: other people can give. You know, he's African American, came
- 28:02Speaker 5: here from South Africa and worked as an immigrant. And
- 28:07Speaker 5: you have Vivic, you have all different ones. And I
- 28:09Speaker 5: think putting all of these opinions together and coming to
- 28:13Speaker 5: the right solution we need that. We need people with
- 28:16Speaker 5: strong opinions that are differing opinions, and when we pull
- 28:20Speaker 5: all that together, I think we will come out with
- 28:21Speaker 5: the right outcome.
- 28:22Speaker 7: And I want to talk about that as it relates
- 28:24Speaker 7: to West Virginia coming up a little bit later on
- 28:26Speaker 7: in the show. I do need to remind you though,

- 28:51Speaker 7: help himself get elected over Carter. I bet that's not
- 28:54Speaker 7: in Tony's history books.
- 28:56Speaker 5: Well, it's it's true that the Iranians did not release
- 28:59Speaker 5: the hostage is until moments after Ronald Reagan was elect
- 29:03Speaker 5: to president. It's one hundred percent true. I mean, look
- 29:06Speaker 5: at the look at the history of it. Uh, the
- 29:08Speaker 5: Iranians didn't want to have anything to do with what
- 29:10Speaker 5: Carter was offering. I mean, Carter, Carter did not show

- 29:28Speaker 7: back into carter presidency. Again, his his great deeds, notwithstanding
- 29:33Speaker 7: many of those happened after he was in office, But
- 29:36Speaker 7: that's one of the things that they're going to look
- 29:37Speaker 7: back on and say, well, he was probably less than
- 29:39Speaker 7: stellar president.
- 29:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:40Speaker 5: Yeah, And in the Iranian issue is a huge issue
- 29:43Speaker 5: This isn't just uh, this isn't just a regional issue.
- 29:45Speaker 5: This is a worldwide issue. It's very important. We don't
- 29:47Speaker 5: talk enough about it. Really it's it's It has caused
- 29:51Speaker 5: major problems for the stability in the Middle East, and
- 29:55Speaker 5: quite frankly, every president has not been able to deal
- 29:59Speaker 5: with this operly. And really the thing that's going to
- 30:04Speaker 5: get Iranian fixed is the Iranian people. There's nothing the
- 30:06Speaker 5: outsiders can do. All we can do is encourage the
- 30:09Speaker 5: Iranian people. It's the same thing they did when they
- 30:11Speaker 5: had the revolution in nineteen seventy nine. A group of people,
- 30:14Speaker 5: a group of students, banded together and overthrew the Shaw
- 30:18Speaker 5: threw him out. Well, he was already out, he was
- 30:19Speaker 5: here getting cancer treatments in America, but they wanted to
- 30:22Speaker 5: bring him back so they could kill him. And anyway,
- 30:25Speaker 5: he died while he was out of the country. But anyway,
- 30:28Speaker 5: the Iranian people have to be the ones to rise up,
- 30:31Speaker 5: and we need to encourage those people to do that,
- 30:34Speaker 5: give them the strength and fortitude to say, hey, we'll
- 30:36Speaker 5: back you if you do this, and we just haven't
- 30:38Speaker 5: been able to do it.
- 30:39Speaker 7: Texas Dave President Carter was a giver he lived a
- 30:41Speaker 7: full life. However, he was the last Democrat that I
- 30:44Speaker 7: ever voted for.
- 30:45Speaker 5: Well, you know, I was thinking about talking about this
- 30:48Speaker 5: last night. Was some party leadership, and one thing that
- 30:52Speaker 5: we acknowledged was a lot of people in West Virginia
- 30:55Speaker 5: voted for Jimmy Carter. You know, we're a Republican state now,
- 30:58Speaker 5: but at that time.
- 30:59Speaker 7: I actually heard that Jeff actually did the numbers on
- 31:01Speaker 7: a story this morning, Jeff Jenkins and the guys coming
- 31:03Speaker 7: in this morning. Those may be included on the website,
- 31:04Speaker 7: I'm not sure, but yeah, he actually talked about the
- 31:06Speaker 7: popularity of Jimmy Carter in West Virginia. As I mentioned,
- 31:09Speaker 7: he came here several times. Some of the news channels
- 31:12Speaker 7: were showing video this morning. Randy Joey interviewed him, and
- 31:15Speaker 7: he's gonna be unhappy to talk about it today, but
- 31:17Speaker 7: Jimmy Carter was quite popular in West Virginia.
- 31:18Speaker 5: He was at that time. And of course it was
- 31:20Speaker 5: a different era. It was a different era. There was
- 31:22Speaker 5: a lot of things that were different back then. But
- 31:24Speaker 5: a lot of people, or many people who are still
- 31:26Speaker 5: alive today can remember voting for Jimmy Carter and West
- 31:29Speaker 5: Virginia of course they wouldn't do that today if he
- 31:31Speaker 5: was on the ballot.
- 31:32Speaker 3: But that's why we have to be respectful Texas.
- 31:35Speaker 7: Dave, not just Carter, but most definitely would not be
- 31:37Speaker 7: welcomed in the Democratic Party today. Just look at how
- 31:40Speaker 7: they treated his nephew. I think he's talking about Kennedy here,
- 31:43Speaker 7: whose stands are not much different than his fathers were.
- 31:47Speaker 7: Going back to what I said about how I don't
- 31:49Speaker 7: know that Jimmy Carter would be welcome in the party today,
- 31:52Speaker 7: but Dave Island showing five. Indie Live is brought to

- 35:15Speaker 7: You want to comment on, well, I was just.
- 35:16Speaker 5: Gonna say, I'm I don't know who texts that in,
- 35:18Speaker 5: but I am a little concerned about the Syrian thing.
- 35:20Speaker 5: I mean, Asad is a bad guy, right, we know
- 35:23Speaker 5: he's a bad guy. But then when you depose this guy,
- 35:27Speaker 5: who are they gonna install? Because it's it's isis type
- 35:29Speaker 5: groups that are going in which Assad's bad, isis is
- 35:33Speaker 5: worse and so so what do you get in place
- 35:35Speaker 5: of that? Uh, the texture's right, I mean, I don't know.
- 35:37Speaker 5: I'm not gonna take a hard position. All I know
- 35:39Speaker 5: is it's very unstable in Syria right now and Russia's influence.
- 35:43Speaker 5: I mean, we have to keep our eye on that.
- 35:46Speaker 7: I mentioned at the beginning of the interview about your podcast.
- 35:49Speaker 7: How's it going.
- 35:50Speaker 5: It's going great, man. I am so surprised at the listenership.
- 35:54Speaker 5: I barely do any average I don't do any paid advertising.
- 35:57Speaker 5: I mean, I've mentioned a few times on your show.
- 36:00Speaker 5: Friends around the country, you know where I'm connecting the
- 36:01Speaker 5: Republican Party. But the listenership's very high. We have listeners
- 36:05Speaker 5: all over the country. We're in forty eight states and
- 36:08Speaker 5: then all over West Virginia. Of course, that's our highest listenership,
- 36:11Speaker 5: and so it's doing really good. It's a little slow
- 36:13Speaker 5: over the holidays, you know, I haven't I tried to
- 36:14Speaker 5: book a few interviews and people want to do it,
- 36:16Speaker 5: but they want to.
- 36:17Speaker 3: Do it after the first of the year.
- 36:18Speaker 5: So I've had just a few monologues by myself, which
- 36:20Speaker 5: by the way, I'm not a broadcaster, okay, but monologuing
- 36:25Speaker 5: for an hour or more with zero commercial breaks, yeah,
- 36:28Speaker 5: I mean, I guess I could take a break on
- 36:30Speaker 5: my own, but I just do it. It's not easy
- 36:33Speaker 5: to do. Like when I'm sitting in here and you
- 36:34Speaker 5: asked me questions, that's much easier. We bounce off of
- 36:37Speaker 5: each other, but when you're sitting in a room alone,
- 36:39Speaker 5: that's difficult. And that's why I have such respect for
- 36:41Speaker 5: Rush Limball. What he did was amazing and it helped
- 36:45Speaker 5: everybody who's who's who's trying to have a voice.
- 36:47Speaker 7: Well, I mean, look, you know I got a lot
- 36:49Speaker 7: of heat for saying this when when mister Limball died.
- 36:52Speaker 7: But if it were not for Rush Limball, politics aside
- 36:55Speaker 7: AM radio would have died. Yeah, this wholew chs it says, Well,
- 36:59Speaker 7: I don't want I mean there woul always always would
- 37:00Speaker 7: have been a place for it, but it would not
- 37:02Speaker 7: be what it is today because he and he opened
- 37:04Speaker 7: opened the door for others.
- 37:05Speaker 5: Well, this station looked very popular, and this station carried
- 37:08Speaker 5: rushling Ball for for all of my dog life, and uh,
- 37:12Speaker 5: quite frankly, uh that's that's how I knew to listen
- 37:15Speaker 5: to five eighty was when I started listening to Rush
- 37:17Speaker 5: and then then I found out about Hoppy and.
- 37:19Speaker 7: Well, if you need something to fill the time, remember
- 37:21Speaker 7: you can always promote this show on your podcast, because
- 37:25Speaker 7: I promote your show on my podcast.
- 37:27Speaker 3: I'll do it.
- 37:29Speaker 2: I'll do it.
- 37:30Speaker 7: You have me as a guest, and you've had Danny
- 37:32Speaker 7: Stones on. I mean, come on, I did have Danny on.
- 37:34Speaker 7: We talked for Danny was a great guest.
- 37:36Speaker 3: He was a good guest. Yeah, he talked about what
- 37:38Speaker 3: it's like digging grave.
- 37:39Speaker 7: What's what's the when you get off talking to Danny
- 37:41Speaker 7: and started to tell where it's it's all over what
- 37:43Speaker 7: what's the name of the podcast again.
- 37:44Speaker 5: It's called Viewpoint with Tony Hodge. Just just uh put
- 37:48Speaker 5: Viewpoint with Tony Hodge and Spotify, Apple, iHeart any podcasting
- 37:53Speaker 5: platform out there were everywhere, So just type it in.
- 37:56Speaker 2: Tony.
- 37:57Speaker 7: You, like myself, do a variety of different things in
- 37:59Speaker 7: addition to your role with the State Republican Party. But
- 38:02Speaker 7: you're also the chair of the Putnam County Republican Executive Committee,
- 38:07Speaker 7: and you folks are now tasked with wading through the
- 38:10Speaker 7: applications of those who want to be the next Putnam
- 38:13Speaker 7: County Commissioner. This comes on the heels, of course, of
- 38:15Speaker 7: Commissioner and former Sheriff Steve Dewez stepping down. We don't
- 38:17Speaker 7: need to wagh through all that now we all know
- 38:19Speaker 7: the story. The current Commissioners, Brian Ellis and Commissioned President
- 38:23Speaker 7: Andy Skidmore were I guess, unable to come to an agreement.
- 38:27Speaker 7: It wasn't like it was a big argument or anything,
- 38:29Speaker 7: but one I understand it just they couldn't come to which, again,
- 38:31Speaker 7: that's not necessarily a bad thing. So now the Executive
- 38:34Speaker 7: Committee will sift through the list of interested parties and
- 38:37Speaker 7: then submit those names back to the County Commission. Much
- 38:41Speaker 7: like a jury, they can strike whoever they want. There's
- 38:44Speaker 7: not a lot of interest in what was Steve Dewez's
- 38:47Speaker 7: seat on the Putnam County Commission.
- 38:49Speaker 5: There's a lot of interest. And what's interesting is, well,
- 38:52Speaker 5: so Commissioner, to recap what you just said, Commissioner Skidmore
- 38:56Speaker 5: and Commissioner Ellis could not agree on one per They
- 39:00Speaker 5: each had different views on that, so it kicks over
- 39:03Speaker 5: to the Executive Committee. But one of the reasons that
- 39:05Speaker 5: made it difficult for them to not be able to
- 39:08Speaker 5: settle on one person. Was twenty one people submitted their
- 39:11Speaker 5: application and resume for this position, and since they've kicked
- 39:16Speaker 5: it over to the Executive Committee, we've added three more people.
- 39:18Speaker 5: So now we're up to twenty four people that we
- 39:21Speaker 5: have to review. We're reviewing their documentation right now, and
- 39:25Speaker 5: this process, you know, we take it very very seriously,
- 39:28Speaker 5: and it shows the level of civic involvement in Putnam
- 39:33Speaker 5: County is very very high. And as you know, you're
- 39:36Speaker 5: a resident, I'm a resident in Putnam County. I think
- 39:38Speaker 5: half this building here drives in from Putnam. There's a
- 39:41Speaker 5: lot of us here in this building. But what I
- 39:44Speaker 5: love about Putnam County is the people there are so
- 39:47Speaker 5: connected and they're civically minded. They care about their local government,
- 39:51Speaker 5: they care about getting the right people in place. And
- 39:55Speaker 5: so we had all of these applicants. We're going through
- 39:57Speaker 5: it right now. So we're going to have a meeting
- 39:59Speaker 5: coming up next week. We wanted to wait until after
- 40:02Speaker 5: the holidays because we don't want to bog down the
- 40:05Speaker 5: committee members with all this while they're trying to spend
- 40:07Speaker 5: time with family.
- 40:08Speaker 3: But we'll have a meeting next week.
- 40:10Speaker 5: We're putting a process into place to be able to
- 40:13Speaker 5: whittle down the names, and eventually we're going to come
- 40:16Speaker 5: to where we have three names. We'll submit those three
- 40:18Speaker 5: names over to the two sitting commissioners and what will
- 40:21Speaker 5: happen then if one of those three names, if they
- 40:24Speaker 5: both agree on one of those three names, they'll vote
- 40:26Speaker 5: on that person and that'll be the end of it.
- 40:28Speaker 5: But if they don't both agree on one of those
- 40:30Speaker 5: three names, then it will go to the most senior
- 40:34Speaker 5: commissioner will strike a person, then the junior commissioner will
- 40:38Speaker 5: strike a person, and then the third one left is
- 40:41Speaker 5: who our next county commissioner will be.
- 40:43Speaker 7: So in this process, when you're sitting in that room
- 40:47Speaker 7: as the executive committee and you're looking over these names,
- 40:50Speaker 7: take us inside that process. I mean, Putnam County is
- 40:53Speaker 7: a relatively small county in a small state. So it's
- 40:57Speaker 7: not like there anybody in that committee is going to
- 41:00Speaker 7: look at this list of people and say, well, Okay,
- 41:01Speaker 7: I don't know this guy or I don't know this lady.
- 41:03Speaker 7: Who I mean, they obviously know everyone there, and there
- 41:06Speaker 7: are residency requirements. They have to live in the same district,
- 41:10Speaker 7: which is where mister deuis resided. So what does that
- 41:14Speaker 7: process look like when you're sitting in a room and
- 41:16Speaker 7: you're putting names on the board, orybody passed them. I mean,
- 41:18Speaker 7: what exactly happens.
- 41:19Speaker 5: Well, so all of the resumes and applications have been
- 41:22Speaker 5: distributed to each member for their reviews, so each member
- 41:24Speaker 5: is individually reviewing it. And what you said is true
- 41:27Speaker 5: that all of these people who have who have applied,
- 41:31Speaker 5: a majority of the committee knows knows the person. I mean,
- 41:36Speaker 5: it's it's you know, this isn't a huge county and
- 41:39Speaker 5: so these aren't unknown people. All of them are known,
- 41:42Speaker 5: so so they do have So we're looking at different things.
- 41:45Speaker 5: We're looking at residency requirements. We're looking at voter registration.
- 41:49Speaker 5: You know, you have to the state code says this
- 41:51Speaker 5: person has to be a Republican, So we have to
- 41:53Speaker 5: verify that. We don't just assume, you know, we verify.
- 41:56Speaker 5: We verify that, we verify the residency. We you know,
- 42:00Speaker 5: we're thinking about things like civic involvement. You know, how
- 42:04Speaker 5: much have you been involved in the past. You know,
- 42:07Speaker 5: we may even ask questions of certain ones when we
- 42:09Speaker 5: start narrowing it down. We may you know, say, hey,
- 42:12Speaker 5: what what's your view on this or what you know,
- 42:14Speaker 5: what's your view on economic development, what's your view on
- 42:17Speaker 5: the business park over here or you know, just differently
- 42:19Speaker 5: or things. What's your view on broadband and you know,
- 42:24Speaker 5: water and sewer things that we are thinking that's very important,
- 42:27Speaker 5: you know, values that are important to Putnam County residents.
- 42:30Speaker 5: So we'll talk about that with them. And then we're
- 42:32Speaker 5: also going to talk to each commissioner individually, not together,
- 42:37Speaker 5: but individually, and we're going to get their thoughts because
- 42:40Speaker 5: they did sit down and interview twenty one of these people,
- 42:43Speaker 5: and we'll say, hey, you know, tell us what you
- 42:45Speaker 5: thought about as you went through the process, and we'll
- 42:48Speaker 5: take we'll take their views into account. But ultimately, at
- 42:51Speaker 5: the end of the day, the decision, according to state code,
- 42:54Speaker 5: rests solely with the Executive Committee, and the Executive Committee
- 42:57Speaker 5: will operate like that in their own way and be
- 43:00Speaker 5: independent of any other voice in The Executive Committee will
- 43:03Speaker 5: come down to a vote, and they will vote to
- 43:06Speaker 5: submit three names for nomination to the County Commissioner.
- 43:08Speaker 7: What is our timeline here? I think you said the
- 43:10Speaker 7: Executive Committee was going to meet next week.
- 43:12Speaker 5: Yeah, we're going to have said so, yeah, we're shooting
- 43:14Speaker 5: for a We're shooting for a meeting on January sixth.
- 43:16Speaker 5: I believe the first meeting of the County Commission is
- 43:19Speaker 5: January fourteenth. It's my goal as chairman to have three
- 43:22Speaker 5: names of nomination before the January fourteenth Mission of meeting
- 43:26Speaker 5: of the County Commission. And so we're going to have
- 43:29Speaker 5: a meeting on January the sixth, But that doesn't mean
- 43:31Speaker 5: that a decision.
- 43:32Speaker 3: Will be made there. It may be made, but it
- 43:34Speaker 3: may not.
- 43:35Speaker 5: But certainly my goal is to have something in place
- 43:38Speaker 5: to submit by January the fourteenth.
- 43:40Speaker 7: And the residency just tell the folks where they have
- 43:43Speaker 7: to be from. And is it too late again, I'm
- 43:46Speaker 7: assuming by this time it's too late for someone to.
- 43:48Speaker 5: Apply right well, according according to State Code. So when
- 43:52Speaker 5: this happens, State Code puts a lot of dates and
- 43:56Speaker 5: timetables and things like that on the County Commission Act.
- 44:01Speaker 5: But when it's kicked over to the Executive Committee man,
- 44:04Speaker 5: it's wide open. It's a political process. We are under
- 44:07Speaker 5: zero time constraints. We have we have no rules whatsoever
- 44:11Speaker 5: other than the person has to be a Republican and
- 44:15Speaker 5: have residency requirements and things like that.
- 44:16Speaker 7: And what is the area we're talking about it. It's
- 44:18Speaker 7: like the eleanor Buffalo.
- 44:20Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 44:20Speaker 5: So it's mostly northern Putnam County Magisterial District one, but

- 48:04Speaker 7: Hodges here from the State Republican Party and the Putnam
- 48:06Speaker 7: County Executive Committee. The Republican Executive Committee text says the
- 48:10Speaker 7: military industrial complex see Syrian says job security as a text.
- 48:16Speaker 5: Well, I mean, look, could be, could be I understand
- 48:19Speaker 5: that the military industrial complex, huh.
- 48:21Speaker 3: I think.
- 48:23Speaker 5: I think we have probably in the past used a
- 48:27Speaker 5: lot of tax payer money to prop up a lot
- 48:29Speaker 5: of military contractors out there and enrich those guys, and
- 48:34Speaker 5: we do need to put an end to that. So
- 48:36Speaker 5: my comments on Syria, I never made any illusion that
- 48:39Speaker 5: we should get involved. I said we need to keep
- 48:41Speaker 5: a close eye on it. We don't need Syria to
- 48:42Speaker 5: turn into another Iran and have total wackos in there
- 48:46Speaker 5: and complete instability. But to get it involved there militarily,
- 48:51Speaker 5: I don't know that. I wouldn't wouldn't be leaning that way.
- 48:54Speaker 7: Texas is someone who broadcasts podcast but isn't a broadcaster
- 48:58Speaker 7: with the same as a person who runs republic office,
- 49:00Speaker 7: but it isn't a politician. I've said it often before.
- 49:02Speaker 7: I have politicians Tony on the show, so well, I'm
- 49:04Speaker 7: not a politician. Yeah you are, well as soon as
- 49:06Speaker 7: you sign your name. So I guess what they're alluding
- 49:08Speaker 7: to is you are now a broadcaster yeah.
- 49:10Speaker 5: Well, uh, you have to understand when I when I
- 49:12Speaker 5: say that term, what I mean is, I'm not a
- 49:14Speaker 5: professional broadcaster like Dave Allen is or like copy what
- 49:19Speaker 5: I'm trying to compliment you, but I'm not a professional
- 49:21Speaker 5: broadcaster like these guys. These guys do it as a profession.
- 49:25Speaker 5: I'm doing it as an aside. Really, uh well, there's
- 49:28Speaker 5: a lot there's a lot of different reasons. We can
- 49:30Speaker 5: get into that on the podcast. You can listen to
- 49:31Speaker 5: your point with Tony Hodgewell. I'll tell you so well.
- 49:34Speaker 5: I'll tell you so well. But but as far as
- 49:37Speaker 5: that comment, yeah, I mean, look, I don't do this
- 49:39Speaker 5: for a living.
- 49:40Speaker 3: There's other things that I do for a living. But
- 49:42Speaker 3: but it is, it is a thing that I'm that
- 49:44Speaker 3: I'm moving into.
- 49:44Speaker 5: Maybe one day I'll be a broadcaster, but right now
- 49:47Speaker 5: I'm not at the level that these other folks are.
- 49:49Speaker 5: You know, I'm I'm I'm learning and I'm trying to
- 49:52Speaker 5: get there. I'm trying to do better. I'm trying to
- 49:54Speaker 5: cut out the uh you.
- 49:55Speaker 3: Know, and all that.
- 49:55Speaker 5: Why I don't well, I mean, you know, uh, he
- 50:00Speaker 5: it takes practice. It takes practice.
- 50:02Speaker 7: Tex says, it's crazy how Tony Hodge and Eric Tarr
- 50:04Speaker 7: sounded exactly the same on the radio. I don't know
- 50:06Speaker 7: if they mean your voice or they or they mean
- 50:08Speaker 7: you're talking wellther both Republicans. Not all Republicans agree on everything, but.
- 50:14Speaker 5: Well Eric, Eric, Senator Tarr and I have not agreed
- 50:16Speaker 5: on everything, but we agree on most things. I'll tell
- 50:19Speaker 5: you we our politics line up very much together. We
- 50:24Speaker 5: agree on a lot. We've helped each other with a
- 50:25Speaker 5: lot of I will help him over in our county
- 50:28Speaker 5: and he'll help me in the legislature, and we work
- 50:30Speaker 5: very well together. I have a lot of respect for
- 50:32Speaker 5: Senator Tatar. I think he's represented Putnam County very very well.
- 50:34Speaker 7: Texas one of the Hoppies last day before retirement, that
- 50:37Speaker 7: would be this Friday, Texas, Dave. After President Carter's presidency,
- 50:41Speaker 7: the gap between the two parties wide and tremendously to
- 50:43Speaker 7: where we are today. Democratic Party has gone so far
- 50:46Speaker 7: to the left. That's why I will never vote for
- 50:48Speaker 7: anyone in the Democratic Party. Thanks, Dave, says a text.
- 50:52Speaker 7: Let me close with this, Tony, you talked about people
- 50:55Speaker 7: getting along and so on and so forth. We saw
- 50:57Speaker 7: what was a fairly contentious I'm not out of control,
- 51:00Speaker 7: but a contentious battle for the states for the Senate
- 51:03Speaker 7: presidency between Randy Smith, the eventual winner, and the aforementioned
- 51:07Speaker 7: Eric Tarr and Tom Takubo. In the end, Randy Smith
- 51:09Speaker 7: is the new Senate President. As somebody who is involved
- 51:13Speaker 7: in politics, we got to close with this and you
- 51:16Speaker 7: see what's happening on the national level right now where
- 51:18Speaker 7: we've got this infighting within the party. Is that something
- 51:21Speaker 7: that concerns the state Republican party as they look at
- 51:24Speaker 7: the super duper majority that the Republicans have. Now you're
- 51:26Speaker 7: worried about infighting.
- 51:28Speaker 3: Not at all. Will there be internal disagreements? Well absolutely.
- 51:32Speaker 5: I mean anytime you get you know, more than one
- 51:35Speaker 5: human in a room, you have two people in a room,
- 51:37Speaker 5: two humans, they're eventually going to disagree. And so we're
- 51:39Speaker 5: going to have that this This shouldn't be shocking, It
- 51:41Speaker 5: shouldn't be something that should make headlines. The two Republicans disagree,
- 51:45Speaker 5: it's going to happen. But as far as the leadership
- 51:49Speaker 5: change over there in the Senate, I mean, look, you know,
- 51:51Speaker 5: it's an exciting time.
- 51:53Speaker 3: I mean, we have it's been a while since we've had.
- 51:55Speaker 5: A leadership change and so we're going to support Randy
- 51:58Speaker 5: Smith and what he's wanting to do. And I think
- 52:00Speaker 5: it's an exciting time. I think it's gonna be a
- 52:02Speaker 5: lot of fun. Uh, keep our eye on things and
- 52:05Speaker 5: it's gonna be fun moving forward. I'm enjoying it.
- 52:07Speaker 7: Tony Hodge of the State Republican Party and also from
- 52:10Speaker 7: the Putnam County Executive comte I appreciate you being here.
- 52:12Speaker 7: Plug your podcast on the point.
