- 0:05SPEAKER_00: Pokemon Wildcard Movie 2027.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: Pokemon is finally back.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Hey everyone, it's Cilbert K here.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to my channel.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Pokemon Fans.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: Get ready because after years of waiting, Pokemon is finally coming back with a brand new animated movie.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: And no, this is not another remake.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: It's not Pikachu waking up one morning with a new hat.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: And it's not Team Rocket returning with a 5000s plan that somehow look worse than the first one.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: This movie is called Pokemon Wildcard, and a big surprise, it's not mainly about catching Pokemon or traveling from one gym to another.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: This time the story enters the world of the Pokemating card game.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Yes, the cards are getting their own movie.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: The same cards that some of us collected as children, traded at school, stored carefully in our binders, or accidentally destroyed by putting them in our pockets and are now moving to the center of the Pokemon universe.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Today on the Gilbert K Take, we're looking at what was announced, why Mimikyu may be the perfect star, and whether Pokemon Wildcard could begin a completely new chapter for this massive franchise.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: Let's get into it.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: The Pokemon Company revealed Pokemon Wildcard during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Pokemon World Championship in San Francisco.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: That was the perfect place to announce it.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: You already have thousands of Pokemon fans in one building.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: Everyone is excited, everyone is watching, and everyone is probably carrying at least one card worth more than my first card.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: The short teaser introduces us to an inspiring Pokemon card player with one very big dream becoming a champion.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: But the character who immediately steals our attention is Mimikyu wearing a bright yellow hoodie.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: Now, choosing Mimikyu is interesting.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: Mimiky is not the obvious safe choice.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: The filmmakers could have put Pikachu in the center again.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: Pikachu is one of the most recognizable characters on earth.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: He could probably show Pikachu to someone living alone on a mountain and he would still say Pika, Pika.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: But Mimikyu gives the story something different.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: Mimikyu is a lonely ghost and fairy type Pokemon that hides beneath the costume because it wants people to love it the way they love Pikachu.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: That makes it cute, funny, and just a little creepy at the same time.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: Basically, Mimikyu is adorable, but also looks like it may appear beside your bed at 3 in the morning.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: And I love that choice.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: Underneath the strange costume is a character that wants to belong.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: Pairing Mimikyu with a younger player trying to prove himself gives the movie a possible emotional center.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: One character wants to become a champion, the other simply wants to be accepted.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: That's already more interesting than making the movie one long commercial for shiny cardboard.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: Of course, we still need to see how the card game looks inside the story.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: Will the battles come alive in the imagination of the players?
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: Will we enter the word shown on the cards?
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: Could the Pokemon become part of the real world?
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: Or this will be a grounded sports story about competition, friendship, and pressure.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: Right now, many of those details are being kept secret, but that mystery is part of what makes the announcement exciting.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: The film is being directed by Katsuhiko Kitada with character designs by Akemi Hayashi.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: Clover Works is handling the animation with Story Inc.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: producing.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: CloverWorks is an exciting name because the studio knows how to make animation feel energetic, expressive, and emotional.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: For a card, turn them a story that is important.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: Watching someone place a card on a table may be exciting when you are playing, but a movie needs to make every decision feel huge.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: A good director can turn one card draw into one life or death moment.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: A bad director can make it feel like we are watching someone organize their receipts.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: The creative team has a real challenge: make the audience understand the game without stopping the movie every two minutes for a rule lesson.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: The story needs to work for serious card players who know every move, but also needs to welcome people who think energy card is what you give someone after drink three coffees.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: The filmmakers find that balanced wildcard could reach several generations at once.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: Children can enjoy the Pokemon and the competition.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: Teenagers can connect with the dream of proving yourself.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: Adults can return to something they love growing up with and then quietly check whether the old cars in their basement can pay off the mortgage.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: The movie also arrives at an important moment for Pokemon.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: The franchise celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2026.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: This means parents who grew up watching Ash and Pikachu may now be sharing Pokemon with their own children.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: And has been years since the last animated Pokemon feature, Pokemon, the movie Secrets of the Jungle, first arrived in Japan in 2020 before reaching international audiences in 2021.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: So wildcard doesn't feel like just another release.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: It feels like Pokemon is testing a new direction for its movies.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: And here's what that title becomes interesting: wildcard.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: Obviously, it connects to the trading card game.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: But the wild card is also something unpredictable, something that can suddenly change the entire game.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: Could Mimikyu be that wild card?
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: Could the young player discover a card nobody understands?
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: Could the tournament hide a bigger mystery?
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: Or did the marketing team simply find a title and leave all of us online to create 50 theories before breakfast?
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: That's also possible.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: So we need to talk about the biggest question many longtime fans will ask.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: Where is Ash Hutcham?
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: At this point, there is no confirmation that Ash will appear in the movie.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: And I actually think that may be a good thing.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: Ash had an incredible journey after decades of trying, falling, getting back up, and somehow, remaining 10 years old, he finally became a world champion.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: Maybe he can sit somewhere, drink a juice, and let another kid deal with the pressure for once.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: A small cameo could be fun.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: It would create a big emotional moment for longtime fans, but Wildcard also needs enough confidence to introduce a new hero without using Ash as a safety blanket.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: Pokemon became successful because its word feel bigger than one person.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: A new kind of protagonist could help the movies grow instead of repeating the same adventure with a different background.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: There's also a smart business reason for making the trading card game the focus.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: Pokemon cards are not just toys anymore.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: They are part game, part collectible, in some cases, part investment.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: The card game has tournaments, professional led competition, and a huge community around the world.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: Building a movie around that community can introduce the game to new fans while giving existing players a story that finally speaks directly to them.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: Yes, the movie will probably help sell more cards.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: Let's not pretend the Pokemon company suddenly forgot how business works.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: If Mimikyu gets one special card connected to this movie, collectors may start lining up before the cinema has finished putting up the poster.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: But commercial doesn't automatically mean bad.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: The real question is whether the filmmakers use the card game to tell a meaningful story or use the story as an ad between product shots.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: That will decide whether Wildcard becomes a movie people remember or a 90-minute invitation to visit Nirir's store.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: My Gilbert K take.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: If this is a clever and surprisingly bold direction for Pokemon, instead of bringing back the exact same formula, the filmmakers are exploring another side of a word that millions of people already love.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: Mimikyu is an inspired choice because the character brings humor, mystery, and real emotion.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: And focusing on an inspiring champion gives the movie an easy underdog story that almost anyone can understand, even if they've never played the card game.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: But the film must give us strong characters first and Pokem cards second.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: Make us care about the player, make us understand why winning matters.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: Give Mimikyu a real emotional journey and please make the tournament exciting without giving us a 10-minute lecture every time somebody draws a card.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: If Pokemon Wildcard can do all that, this may be more than Pokemon's return to animated movies.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: It could be the beginning of a fresh Pokemon movie universe.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: And if it does not work, at least Mimikyu already has the perfect disguise to avoid being recognized.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: Now I want to hear from you.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: Are you excited about Pokemon Wildcard?
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: Do you like the trading card game direction?
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: Should Ash Ketchum make a cameo or is it time for Pokemon to move forward with a brand new hero?
