- 0:07Super Bowl 35 took place on January 28, 2001, as the Baltimore Ravens faced the New York Giants at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.
- 0:17The Ravens were coached by Brian Billich in his second year as a head coach.
- 0:21They finished the regular season 12-4, which was only good enough for a wild card bid as Tennessee won the AFC Central with 13 wins.
- 0:28Baltimore was a defensive juggernaut, only giving up 165 points in 16 games, which included four shutouts during the season.
- 0:36The only games the team lost were ones in which their offense failed to score a touchdown.
- 0:40The Giants had the best record in the NFC, at 12-4 under head coach Jim Fossil.
- 0:45New York hoped to enter the game with momentum after destroying the Vikings 41-0 in the NFC Championship game.
- 0:51This audio recording is from the CBS Radio broadcast featuring announcers Howard David, Matt Millen, and Boomer Esiason.
- 1:21This is Steve Kerr. Follow the Spurs this season, right here.
- 1:27Welcome back everybody, I'm Tommy Tye.
- 1:34Getting here with the program puts you on a different level among your brethren.
- 1:37Winning places you in an esteemed group that includes such legends as Lombardi, Noel, Shula, Landry.
- 1:42Brian Billich could put himself in the same breath if his defense comes up big again.
- 1:45The challenge he explained to Boomer, he comes with the unpredictability New York's offense possesses.
- 1:50Just the fact that they are balanced. Teams that have made a mistake against our defense have come in and become one dimensional.
- 1:56If you arbitrarily give up on the run and just figure what the heck we're not going to be able to and just try to throw the ball, there's not a lot of future in that.
- 2:04And so the teams that have fared the best are those that have tried to maintain a certain amount of balance and I know Jim's committed to that balance.
- 2:11Now going into this game Brian, many people, especially in New York, have been talking about your last game against the Jets,
- 2:16the games you played against the Jaguars where they spread you out and kind of caught you off balance.
- 2:21And then all of a sudden talking to Jim Fossil he said, well it seems like they might have been a little bit off balance in those situations but they've rectified those things.
- 2:28Could you see Jim coming out and doing a no huddle, a two minute thing spreading you guys out early in the game?
- 2:33Well I think it's important to note we won both those games and Jim's, I know Jim very well.
- 2:38Any team that wants to come out and throw the ball 70 times against us, have at it.
- 2:42We'd invite you to do so because I don't know, to become one dimensional that way, I don't know that that's the way to get it done.
- 2:49I don't know that that's their personality. Jim's getting the same advice I am because we take counsel from many of the same people.
- 2:55You've got to do what you did to get here and if you try to change your personality dramatically in one way or the other that usually catches up with you.
- 3:03If they choose to come out and want to air it out all day long then that's fine. We're certainly prepared for it.
- 3:08This defense, if it senses that it's forced you into one thing or the other, it kind of feeds off that.
- 3:14There's one individual everybody knows, the NFL defensive player of the year, Ray Lewis.
- 3:18Why has he become the player that he's become this year?
- 3:21Well I think a lot of people have to remember how young Ray is.
- 3:24With all the Pro Bowls he's had a lot of people I think view him a little like Jonathan Ogden.
- 3:28Like he's a vested old time veteran that has seen it all.
- 3:31Both of them are relatively young players and so there's still a learning curve.
- 3:35And I think Ray has reached that point. Boomer as you know there comes a point in the league where you play well, you get comfortable and then you take that next step.
- 3:43There's an awareness of what's going on around you.
- 3:46As great as Ray Lewis has played to go to the Pro Bowls the last couple of years, this year that level of awareness of the entire scheme of the defense,
- 3:53what his responsibilities are, where everybody else needs to be, what he needs to look at when he looks at film and what reads he's looking at.
- 4:00I've never been around a player that reads and reacts as well as Ray Lewis does.
- 4:05When you were in Minnesota I'm sure as an offensive coordinator you set up in front of these guys,
- 4:10look we have a chance to break the overall scoring record in the NFL and probably use that as motivation.
- 4:16Now I'm sure that you go in there and you probably say, hey guys look we have a great defense, we have a good running back,
- 4:21all we have to do is manufacture those yards and eat up those clock when we need to have that done.
- 4:27And that's exactly what they're doing for you.
- 4:29It all goes back to the idea that what does it take for us to win?
- 4:33Any offensive group sure would like to have the big numbers.
- 4:36It's kind of funny, I get a kick out of it because when I've been with some offenses in Minnesota that have generated incredible numbers,
- 4:42the thing anybody wants to talk about is yeah but are you going to win? Are you winning?
- 4:46And even in the 98 year, a 15-1 year, a year where we broke the all-time scoring record,
- 4:51the thing that hangs over it that people when they want to get to me a little bit, God forbid somebody wants to do that.
- 4:58But it's all great, you generated all these numbers, but did you win? Did you go to the Super Bowl?
- 5:02And that's a legitimate observation. I find it interesting now that in dealing with people,
- 5:07yeah we're going to the Super Bowl but your numbers aren't what you'd like them to be.
- 5:11I'm very comfortable with what this team is about. If nothing else you have to adapt to the talent that you have.
- 5:16How much do you think special teams will play a part in today's game?
- 5:18I think it's going to be huge. I think when you look at an offense and a defense that balance each other the way they do,
- 5:22yards are going to be tough to come by. They're an outstanding defense as well.
- 5:27I think special teams, and that's a cliché to say obviously, but I think special teams,
- 5:32and it doesn't even have to be a huge play in special teams.
- 5:35It doesn't have to be a kickoff return for a touchdown or block punt, anything of that nature.
- 5:39But the field position game, something that has played into the equation for us, we play great defense.
- 5:44We could chew up the clock offensively. When we need to, we take the ball off the shadow of our goal.
- 5:50Or we may only move 20 or 30 or 40 yards, maybe don't get into scoring position,
- 5:54but Kyle Richardson leads the league in getting punts inside the 20.
- 5:57So we put that offense facing 80, 90 yards, and that's a tall task facing our defense.
- 6:02So the whole team is interacting in that way and that's why we're here.
- 6:05Trying to make history for joining us as guests, the Raven and Giant coaches and players we chatted with will receive
- 6:10500-minute calling cards courtesy of Nettoophone.
- 6:12Nettoophone, changing the way you communicate. When I return, needing a ray of hope last spring and shine this fall.
- 6:18Ray Lewis up next. You're listening to exclusive coverage of Super Bowl 35 on Westwood 1.
- 6:27How does the Rubbermaid storage shed compare to an untreated wooden shed?
- 6:33Well, this is a baseball bat striking the Rubbermaid shed.
- 6:37A bat striking the wood shed.
- 6:40Termites tasting the Rubbermaid shed.
- 6:43Termites tasting the wood shed.
- 6:46Your teenage son backing into the Rubbermaid shed.
- 6:49Backing into the wood shed.
- 6:53Remember, if it doesn't say Rubbermaid, it's not worth it.
- 6:57Big Blue has discovered the magic of playing in New Jersey.

- 7:27The all-new Dodge Grand Caravan has the most available horsepower of any minivan you can buy.
- 7:33Now, obviously, you're not about to drive your caravan like a Viper,
- 7:37so why should you care how much power a minivan has?
- 7:40Oh, if say you'd like to merge onto the highway or pass a truck,
- 7:45and with available all-wheel drive, the caravan can also make quick work of the elements.
- 7:50The all-new Dodge Caravan. Powerfully, grippingly different.
- 7:56Is your job getting in the way of your love of sports?
- 7:59Imagine, you could be spending the afternoon at a favorite athletic event.
- 8:03Instead, you're stuck at your desk making a living.
- 8:06But not if you have Arch Webster 100 wireless email service and the Motorola T900 communicator.
- 8:12It lets you read and reply to all your business emails from anywhere in the U.S.
- 8:16Especially a nice warm stadium seat.

- 8:27Welcome back everyone. Tommy Tide with Super Bowl 35 from Tampa.
- 8:30If you like defense, get on board. These two teams have allowed the least amount of points to their opponents in a playoff round ever.
- 8:35The Baltimore Ravens facing the New York Football Giants.
- 8:38The NFC champs have a solid aggregate with several very good players.
- 8:41Seahorn, Barrow, Strahan, Armstead. The AFC winners, however, have one player stands out among the many talented folks around him.
- 8:48Linebacker Ray Lewis is being mentioned in the same breath as many of the all-time greats who once patrolled this position.
- 8:53What puts him so close to those already in Sliden and Canton?
- 8:56This is my love for what I do. It's what I'm blessed to do.
- 8:58It's what the man upstairs is giving me.
- 9:00And for me to have that, it's like saying, hey, if you want to watch a guy who just comes to work every day, you know, they pay me to work Monday through Saturday.
- 9:09The sun is up at three.
- 9:10Unfortunately, that ray of sunshine he possesses on the gridiron went dark a year ago this week.
- 9:14Another pro football player is facing a charge of murder.
- 9:18All-pro linebacker Ray Lewis of the Baltimore Ravens is jailed without bond in Atlanta.
- 9:23Charged from the deaths of two Ohio men. He says he didn't do it.
- 9:27The men were stabbed outside an Atlanta bar where a post-Super Bowl party spilled out into the street.
- 9:32A court appearance soon followed. Assistant DA Clint Rucker.
- 9:35Could you say your name for the record?
- 9:37Ray Anthony Lewis Jr.
- 9:39At this time, I would like to ask you, Mr. Lewis, how do you plead to one count of obstruction as contained in the accusation 00SC 06574?
- 9:51Excuse me.
- 9:52But because he decided to testify against two of his associates...
- 9:55The party has pre-slid this agreement with the court.
- 10:00And subject to his exceptions by the court, we'll make a recommendation that the court impose a 12-month sentence against the defendant Ray Anthony Lewis to be served on probation.
- 10:14Allowing him to return to the sidelines. Having his best season ever, Lewis was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
- 10:19Helping lead his club to their first appearance in the game, the players call the Ultimate.
- 10:23With that comes national notoriety and 2700 credential journalists from all over the world looking for a tale to be told.
- 10:29Many look to Lewis who could have been a distraction to his teammates as reporters badgered him about the past.
- 10:34He believed all the hoopla about that difficult period in his life would not allow him to lose his focus.
- 10:38I don't see where it should be a thing for me.
- 10:40You know, my focus is when I came here to come try to win a Super Bowl.
- 10:43I'm not here to try to justify anything that went on because that's the story in my book that's closed.
- 10:49Regardless of whatever situation or whatever questions come up, the thing is, you know, it was always based around me and it's not about me.
- 10:56We're trying to win a Super Bowl. We're not here to focus on Ray Lewis.
- 10:59What Ray Lewis went through, that was a year ago. Let it go.
- 11:02To discuss what we should be speaking about this week.
- 11:05Our defense, our team, the obstacles that we overcome all year, being underdogs all year, the thing Trenton's done.
- 11:13We stayed together through all the trials, through all the going through this, going through that scoring slump, everything.
- 11:19That's what a Super Bowl is about.
- 11:21A Super Bowl is about you pick two of the best teams out of 31 and you say now we find out who the best in the world.
- 11:26With him anchoring the league's best defense this season, considering the many records this group has set, could they possibly be the best ever?
- 11:33Yeah, definitely.
- 11:34I think that speaks for that. I think our play speaks for that.
- 11:37And I think what we've accomplished this whole year by getting into Super Bowl, I think we can claim that label.
- 11:43Stats is there. Fewer spots allowed, things like that.
- 11:46So, I mean, those are things that regardless of the situation, we've improved our stuff all year and now we're at the big dance.
- 11:52When he hopes to step up and help his team, Wolves, or Tango to a title. Still ahead, it's almost here.
- 11:57You're listening to exclusive coverage of Super Bowl 35 on Westwood 1.
- 12:01I watched the ripples change the size, but never knew the stream.
- 12:12In today's net economy, companies are struggling to change, struggling with the complexities of e-business,
- 12:18with making intranets, extranets, and the internet work together across any platform, simply and securely.
- 12:24But now they can. With Net Services software from Nobel, they can all work together as one net.
- 12:32Nobel, the power to change.
- 12:35Children will always take risks, and parents will always worry about them.
- 12:40But thankfully, because of plastic safety helmets and protective gear, we can all breathe a little easier.
- 12:46On the ice rink or in the playing field, plastic is tough enough to absorb the shock,
- 12:51and flexible enough to get up and try again.
- 12:54We can't protect our children forever, but we'll always try.
- 12:59How has plastic touched your life? The American Plastic Council. Plastics make it possible.
- 13:05How does America get back to business?
- 13:08At Office Depot, you'll find everything your business needs to start the new year.

- 13:34When you watch the game from a Toshiba HDTV, you feel as if you're actually part of your favorite team.
- 13:39With the power-focused optic technology, you'll have a picture equivalent to a view from the sidelines.
- 13:45And with the new IDSC2 scan conversion system, you'll be able to make better calls than the referees.
- 13:52Football becomes so alive on Toshiba HDTV, you may feel a little wet after they dump that cooler full of water on the head coach.
- 13:59Toshiba HDTV, your team will love you for it. Toshiba, it's that kind of love.
- 14:05Welcome back everybody. Tommy Teig at Super Bowl 35.
- 14:08The New York Giants, the NFC champions going up against the AFC champion, Baltimore Ravens.
- 14:13Super Bowl Sunday, an interesting factoid for this one.
- 14:16The Ravens 9-0 when they lose the coin toss, while the Giants 9-1 when they win the toss, so something has to give right here.
- 14:23A couple other factoys before soup's on. Cost of a ticket to Super Bowl I, $6.
- 14:28Cost of a ticket to today's game, $350.
- 14:32An estimated 30 million people around the world are listening to us right at this moment.
- 14:36A couple other records to look forward to. 12 million potato chips, 4 million pretzels will also be consumed,
- 14:42along with a record 22 million avocados.
- 14:45Pizza sales skyrocket, believe it or not, to 43% better sales today than on any given Sunday in the year.
- 14:51And right now is probably the best time to go to a movie, if anybody's on their way to the movie right now.
- 14:56Who's going to be there? Well, that's anybody's guess.
- 14:58Now for the first time in 10 years, Tampa, Florida hosts the Super Bowl.
- 15:01The official beginning to the contest starts with nationally known recording artist Ray Charles singing America the Beautiful.
- 15:06Let's join my good friend Greg Gumbel of CBS Sports with a formal introduction.
- 15:16One more thing to consider.
- 15:182,025th birthday of the United States.
- 15:22And with us to celebrate by singing America the Beautiful 15-time Grammy Award winner, the legendary Ray Charles.
- 16:22Now what I'm singing about tonight.
- 16:52I wish I had somebody here to sing this thing.
- 17:22I've been far gone.
- 17:24He's far back away.
- 17:27He's gone.
- 17:29Sing America the Beautiful.
- 17:35From the hill of the sky.
- 17:40I'm singing America the Beautiful.
- 18:10And now a B-2 flyover hitting the stadium.
- 18:14Raymond James, a beautiful sight coming after America the Beautiful by Ray Charles.
- 18:19Speaking of spacious skies, we have an outstanding day to play football.
- 18:28Now let's go back and rejoin Greg Gumbel as we get set to go to the national anthem.
- 18:32Here at campus, McDill Air Force Base.
- 18:34We are proud to have with us today veterans of that conflict representing the thousands who gave so much for our country.
- 18:41They are led by a true American hero, Desert Storm Commander in Chief, retired Army General Norman Schwarzkopf.
- 18:51And now to honor all those brave American men and women, please join in the singing of our national anthem,
- 18:57which will be followed by a flyover by the United States Air Force's Thunderbird.
- 19:02The anthem, produced by Ricky Minor, will be signed for the hearing impaired by Tampa's Tom Cooney.
- 19:09Ladies and gentlemen, the world's most successful pop group, Florida's own, the Backstreet Boys.
- 19:38Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
- 19:59Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
- 20:20And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there
- 20:44And the rocket's red stars spangled banner yet wave O'er the land of the free
- 21:10And the home of the brave
- 21:30Our game that's larger than life, the Backstreet Boys, followed by the Air Force Thunderbirds.
- 21:41We're about five minutes to kick off. This has been the Nobel Super Bowl 35 free game report on CBS Radio Sports and Westwood One, brought to you by Nobel, the power to change.
- 21:50You're listening to exclusive coverage of Super Bowl 35 on Westwood One.

- 23:26Geico Auto Insurance customers are frugal people. They value a dollar and they save a lot of them by switching.
- 23:33To prove my point, I'm joined by a real live customer, Erica Willis. Erica, will you give me $10,000?
- 23:40No.
- 23:41There. Proof that Geico customers do not like to part with any more money than they have to. Call 1-800-947-AUTO. You could keep 15% or more of your money. 1-800-947-AUTO. Geico Direct, the sensible alternative.
- 23:56Welcome back, everyone. I'm Tommy Tung. I'll be back at intermission with the Novell Halftime Report. My guests will include NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue and Kansas City Chiefs Coach Dick Vermeel.
- 24:05But right now it's time for Super Bowl 35 on CBS Radio Sports and Westwood 1, the Baltimore Ravens and the New York Giants.
- 24:12Let's rejoin the three men calling all the action for you today. Howard David, Matt Millen and Boomer Seison. Have a good one, fellas.
- 24:18All right, Tommy. Thank you. The captains for the Ravens, Shannon Sharp, Ray Lewis and James Tratt for the Giants, Kerry Collins, Ron Stone, Mike Strahan, Jesse Armstead and Lomas Brown.
- 24:27The referee for today is Jerry Austin in his third Super Bowl and the celebrity toss of the coin featuring four men who have been here in Tampa for Super Bowl.
- 24:37Super Bowl 25, will the Giants beat the Bills? Bill Parcells, the head coach of that team and Otis Anderson, who rushed for 101 yards and was the game's MVP.
- 24:47And Super Bowl 18, the Raiders beat the Redskins 38 to 9. The MVP was Marcus Allen, his head coach, Tom Flores.
- 24:57Those gentlemen at midfield about ready to toss the coin for today's game. Super Bowl 35 between the New York Giants and the Baltimore Ravens.
- 25:08And OJ Anderson epitomized the will of the Giants in that Super Bowl victory, of course, best remembered for wide right by Scott Norwood.
- 25:18With us from the 19-4 Los Angeles Rangers, former head coach Tom Flores and running back Marcus Allen.
- 25:30And from the 1991 New York Giants, former head coach Bill Parcells and running back Otis Anderson.
- 25:45You get the idea as we listen in to Greg Gumbel, our colleague, handling the introductions.
- 25:50You get the idea, there's probably about 60% plus Giants fans versus about 40% Ravens fans. Let's go down to the toss of the coin. Jerry Austin.
- 26:00Super Bowl 35. Head is represented by the Lombardi Trophy and the two helmets.
- 26:07Baltimore is the visiting team. Who's going to make the call? What is your call? Head's is his call. Coach Flores, would you make the toss?
- 26:21If there's a tail, you'll go in the toss.
- 26:28Step over here, please.
- 26:33The Giants have won the toss of the coin, fellas. If you're the Giants, you get an opportunity to strike first.
- 26:39And you also have an opportunity if you're a Baltimore Raven to get your strength of your team on the field right away and set the tone.
- 26:46This goes back to what we said right from the beginning. Let's see how Jim Poffels is going to play this game.
- 26:51This is the strategy that will decide the outcome of this Super Bowl to see whether or not he'll let Kerry Collins spread his offense out and start throwing the football and gain some momentum and confidence as the game goes on.
- 27:02Bad news for the Giants. When the Ravens lose the toss of the coin, they are 9-0.
- 27:07And according to Tommy, conversely, when the Giants win, they're 9-1. Something's got to give.
- 27:13That's right. How about let's go downstairs to James Lofton. James?
- 27:16Guys, I'm down here with Marcus Allen. Marcus, do you even remember who won the coin toss when you played in the Super Bowl?
- 27:21First time I really started wanting to play again because it was pretty exciting. I felt the energy, James.
- 27:26Now, are you ever surprised that your record for that long Super Bowl run has held up this long?
- 27:32Well, you expect that obviously every year there's somebody to break it. But what I do is call all the running backs each year and I say, listen, I want you guys to have an outstanding game, but I would like to remain in the record book just a little bit longer.
- 27:44Well, I don't know if they get a run off that long. Marcus, thanks for joining us.
- 27:47Thank you, James.
- 27:48Talk to George Tomah, the grounds guru before the ballgame. He said this turf is fast. He said it may get a little moisture as the dew works its way in the course of the evening.
- 27:59So it's going to be fast, early and slippery late. Just like the guys up in the booth.
- 28:03Exactly. That's a James Lofton track we're talking about here.
- 28:06Yes, it's absolutely a beautiful field. George Tomah did a great job before the game. We were walking down there, Matt. I mean, this is like a carpet and a living.
- 28:13Gorgeous.
- 28:14Absolutely gorgeous. You know, just a little tidbit of information for Marcus down. You know, Marcus down was a complete stiff until I taught him how to run in this particular game.
- 28:23Same shifty moves.
- 28:24You got it.
- 28:25As you saw, I asked, I'll tell you that.
- 28:27Matt, how do you run?
- 28:28As you dodged in and out of the warming trays.
- 28:31Yes, sir.
- 28:32Well, Matt Stover, who's had the most points of any kicker in the league this year with 135, will be kicking it off to either Ron Dixon or Damon Washington.
- 28:40And we remember Ron Dixon against the Philadelphia Eagles in the divisional playoff game when he went coast to coast for the touchdown to start the game.
- 28:49You know, the interesting thing is talking to Jimmy McNally and Mike Pope, the offensive line coach and a tight end coach for the Giants.
- 28:55He said, you know, we've been watching a lot of film of these guys. A whole bunch of teams have started inside the 20 yard line.
- 29:01Makes it awful difficult for any offense to march 80 yards consistently, especially when you're playing against the best defense in the NFL.
- 29:09Well, that's just what we talked about earlier, just in terms of field position.
- 29:13But the returners, the respective turners for both these teams are going to be big, not only in the kickoff and return game, but also the punt return game.
- 29:20The heat sure started the game, sponsored by heat, gas line, antifreeze.
- 29:24Cold engines start with heat and Stover to kick it off as the flash bulbs go off around the stadium.
- 29:30It'll be Dixon at the five, angling left of the 15, of the 20 and hit down at the 22 yard line.
- 29:37Back on the play, OJ Berghans and the Giants go on offense under the leadership of Kerry Collins.
- 29:45A rags to riches story who threw for over 3600 yards this season had a huge game against the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC title game that turned it into a joke.
- 29:5641 nothing, only the joke was on the Vikings.
- 29:59They want the Giants are going to go with three wide receivers, including Dixon, Hilliard and Tuller.
- 30:08Tiki Barber and Greg Comella in the line.
- 30:13Dixon goes in motion when they get a light of a loose ball and a flag also at the same time.
- 30:20As Jamie Sharper came up with a loose ball, but I think the play has been blown dead before it started.
- 30:25You're going to have encroachment on the defense. I think unless one of those offensive linemen move to bring those guys across the line.
- 30:32Looks like Hamilton jumped inside, but we'll see if they were drawn off.
- 30:35I think it's got to be on the defense here, Matt.
- 30:37I'm sorry, not Hamilton, but either Goose or.
- 30:41What does that matter?
- 30:42Five yards, the two first fans.
- 30:45All right, let's go over the offensive line for the Giants.
- 30:47Lomas Brown has been to seven Pro balls.
- 30:49He's had a huge impact on this team from a leadership point of view.
- 30:53Luke Pettigrew, the right tackle, Glenn Parker, 16 postseason games with former Buffalo Bill and Ron Stone off his first Pro ball.
- 31:01The guards, Dusty Ziggler, the former Buffalo Bill, the starting center, Howard Cross, Dan Campbell, Pete Mitchell are the tight ends for the Giants.
- 31:11And Mitchell in the game right now lined up on the right side.
- 31:16First and five of the Giants might be a good gambling down as Collins play action.
- 31:21He throws it over the middle and is tipped and nearly picked off.
- 31:24They were looking for Mitchell at the 35 yard line.
- 31:27Now, the one thing that I've already seen from the Giants, they're getting in and out of the hole rather quickly, Matt.
- 31:32And the Giants play an offense where there's a lot of shifting and motioning.
- 31:35And the reason that you do that is to try to confuse the defense.
- 31:38But conversely, on the other side, the defense is extremely simple for the Baltimore Ravens to run from a scheme standpoint.
- 31:44You're also going to see some long counts because this Baltimore defense likes to really jump the count.
- 31:50Ravens front four of Burnett, Adams, Sarah Goosa McCrary, the linebackers Bullwair, Lewis and Schopper, the quarter's Stocks and McAllister.
- 31:57Harris, or rather Herring and Woodson, the safeties.
- 32:01They go inside the barbara and he's tripped up at the line of scrimmage by Jamie Schopper, the right side linebacker who had good penetration.
- 32:08All right, you're looking at about a third and a fourth now.
- 32:10This is manageable for the Giants offense.
- 32:12These are plays in situations where you run your base offense and Kerry was very good against the Vikings in this exact situation.
- 32:19Interesting that in the first down, they went to the tight end, which I would expect would be good for them today.
- 32:24And try to work on the underneath stuff because I don't really like their match outside.
- 32:30Although you're going to have starts right now on Amani Tilmer with the safety top help over the top.
- 32:36You're a vicious in the game speedster. Collins out of his shotgun. Third down about five.
- 32:42Collins back throws deep down the left side. There's contact and the ball is nearly picked off by Tim Herring, who had a shot at making the game's first turnover on the pass down field to Joe Jurovichus.
- 32:56But you also had Schopper right in the face. This is what we talked about right at the beginning, bro.
- 33:00The quarterback that handles the pressure the best will be the one who has the best chance to win.
- 33:05Schopper came on a blitz to the inside. They matched up man to the outside and Collins just threw it.
- 33:11He was lucky he didn't have himself a pick.
- 33:13Brad Maynard to kick it away to Jermaine Lewis who had two returns for a touchdown against the Jets in the final regular season game.
- 33:19The only man ever to do it twice.
- 33:22And the punt by Maynard is a short but high kick.
- 33:25Fair catch called for by Lewis who gathers it in at the 37 yard line of the Baltimore Ravens. Only a 37 yard punt.
- 33:33And field position after the first series. Field position goes to the Baltimore Ravens.
- 33:38Matt you talked about ironclad will. That's exactly what Kerry Collins is going to have to have because he's almost had two balls picked off already.
- 33:45This is exactly the way the Baltimore Ravens want to start the game. Great field position for their offense.
- 33:50Let's see if Brian Dillick opens it up a little bit here.
- 33:54Giants have Strahan, Peter, Hamilton and Jones the front four.
- 33:58Trent Filker who took over as a starter on October the 29th against Pittsburgh in the quarterback.
- 34:04Lewis and Holmes are running back. Filker back out to the left.
- 34:08The catch is made by Priest Holmes for a pick up to the 41 yard line of the Baltimore Ravens.
- 34:15Their offensive line, Pro Bowler Jonathan Ogden the left tackle.
- 34:18Harry Swain the former Bronco and Charger at right tackle.
- 34:22Bullock-Hallow and Flynn the guards.
- 34:24Jeff Mitchell at center for Baltimore.
- 34:27Their tight ends of course are Pro Bowl caliber.
- 34:29Shannon Sharpe and Ben Coase.
- 34:32Kadri Ismael, Jermaine Lewis, Brandon Stokely the wide receivers.
- 34:37We will see in and out of this game. We'll give you the giant defense in a moment.
- 34:41Filker going to throw on second down.
- 34:44Loads up left throws right through the hands of Kadri Ismael who was defended by Dave Thomas.
- 34:51You fellas said it early on. They're going to go to Thomas right away.
- 34:54Well they are going to go to Thomas and he had Ismael covered perfectly.
- 34:58He was underneath like he read the route.
- 35:00It was a dangerous throw by Trent Filpher but what I notice here is that Brian Billich is going to let Trent Filpher have a few opportunities early on in this game.
- 35:07They go ahead and make that throw and he's going to put it on his shoulders.
- 35:10Here they're going to come out with three straight passes.
- 35:12They've got to throw here.
- 35:14Two tight ends although Shannon Sharpe is the same as a wide out.
- 35:19Tripp receivers to the right.
- 35:21Third down and six for Baltimore.
- 35:24Filpher back looks right throws right under Duress.
- 35:28He throws it away and there was pressure coming from Filpher's right hand side.
- 35:32You know Matt I don't mean to laugh but it seems like this is exactly what everybody in the country is expecting from this game.
- 35:38If the quarterbacks are going to get beat up pretty good that time Trent Filpher gets hit right underneath the chin and throws the ball away.
- 35:44But here we go field position and this is where Richardson has been absolutely wonderful during the season hitting his opponents inside the 20 yard line.
- 35:52Kyle Richardson a kick to Tiki Barber.
- 35:54He's got that left forearm.
- 35:56He's heavily taped up.
- 35:58There catches Paul Corr and Barber fields it safely at the 13 yard line and now the tippin starts every now and again.
- 36:05Inside the 20 again and Richardson just absolutely terrific this year.
- 36:08The best in the NFL at pinning his opponents inside the 20 yard line.
- 36:12That's a 46 yard kick.
- 36:13There's no score in the first quarter.
- 36:15This is Westwood once coverage of Super Bowl 35.
- 36:18Me?
- 36:21I'm what they call a sinus sufferer.
- 36:23Well I used to be anyway because I finally figured out how to deal with sinuses that were driving me crazy.
- 36:29The moment I feel that very first sign of sinus pressure I take Sudafed.
- 36:34Boom no waiting around.
- 36:35No I'll think about it.
- 36:36Taking Sudafed at the first sign of pressure releases pressure and helps prevent escalation to sinus pain.
- 36:42I take Sudafed sooner until sinus pain later.
- 36:46Take non-drowsy Sudafed at the first sign.

- 37:26I'm Howard David. You're listening to Super Bowl 35 on CBS Radio Sports and Westwood One.
- 37:30Later in the game we'll tell you about today's Rolades moment brought to you by Extra Stream.
- 37:34Rolades and Assets with even more acid neutralizing power to wipe out heartburn fast.
- 37:39We go down to our colleague John Dockery.
- 37:41Howard amazing when Ray Lewis was introduced.
- 37:44He went into a hot dog dance, bent down and grabbed some grass turf, rubbed it on his uniform,
- 37:50then put it back in the ground and then went into a rocking back and forth dance.
- 37:55Something I'm told that he practiced during the week in the locker room.
- 37:58Wow, I don't know what to say.
- 38:00He backs it up but boy if he doesn't it's going to come back to haunt him.
- 38:05Jason Garrett is the backup quarterback for the Giants.
- 38:08He gave Kerry Collins some good advice.
- 38:10He said call Troy Aikman about your Super Bowl experience and he'll give you some good insight.
- 38:17Apparently he did and Aikman has been to the dance a few times.
- 38:21I'm sure he can give him the right information.
- 38:23The thing here Howard is that again it's going to come down to these quarterbacks that are dealing with the pressure.
- 38:28Both of these defenses can do that to you.
- 38:31It's going to be interesting to see how these offenses try to adjust as this game goes on.
- 38:35Collins will start at his own 13 yard line.
- 38:39Since Mitchell with tight end in motion, Collins quick drop,
- 38:42puts one, gets hit and sacks back at the seven yard line.
- 38:46He is hit by Rob Burnett who had ten and a half sacks during the regular season
- 38:51on the game's first sack registered by the Ravens.
- 38:54They're in an over front so that means Burnett is going to be on Pedegu.
- 38:57Pedegu we said earlier is going to have some problems.
- 39:00Now that was going to be a quick pass.
- 39:03You have to credit the coverage on the outside.
- 39:05He's looking towards Armani Tumor but Starks is right on top of him.
- 39:09Took the quick away. They were going to try a double move.
- 39:11Burnett was able to make the hit.
- 39:13Howard Cross, the only giant remaining from Super Bowl 25, is in the game at tight end for the Giants.
- 39:18After a five yard loss, second and 15, the pitch to Barber sweeping right,
- 39:23tries to turn the corner and is put on his back.
- 39:26Half a nine yard line.
- 39:28Terrific play, James Treff.
- 39:31You can see right here the defense of the Baltimore Ravens are living up to the billing thus far.
- 39:36Flying to the football, the Giants realize it's going to be very difficult to run inside
- 39:41so they try to get Tiki outside.
- 39:43But Matt, the thing that is most impressive when you watch this defense
- 39:46is the pursuit and how many guys are around the football.
- 39:49And how well they come off blocks.
- 39:51That was outstanding by Treff to fight off the block.
- 39:53Hold the outside leverage to force it in and of course they make the tackle on top of it, third and long.
- 39:58This is where Terry Collins has got to be careful inside his own 10 yard line.
- 40:02Don't force it here.
- 40:03Third and 14, Hilliard in motion.
- 40:06Collins back to the goal line, steps up.
- 40:08Now tries to take off and run with it and slides down to the 15 yard line.
- 40:12Well he got about half of what he needed.
- 40:14He still needed about eight more and they'll have to kick it away.
- 40:17This is what I'm talking about. Just be careful. Don't force the football.
- 40:21It's going to be a game of field position.
- 40:23This is where Brad Maynard has got to be careful.
- 40:25Kick it outside the numbers.
- 40:27Do not give Jermaine Lewis the entire field to run with.
- 40:30Agreed. Now you have the directional kick on the punt game.
- 40:32More important, it looks to me right there that Terry Collins is starting to speed himself up a little bit.
- 40:38He's got to calm himself back down.
- 40:40Maynard, an excellent punter, but he's starting in dangerous territory.
- 40:45Lewis stands at the 44 and he kicks it away.
- 40:49It is a short wobbly kick and it bounces out of bounds at the 48 yard line of Baltimore.
- 40:55The Ravens now with an outstanding opportunity.
- 40:58They'll start to drive at their own 49 yard line after a 38 yard punt.
- 41:03There's no score first quarter.
- 41:05This is Westwood 1's coverage of Super Bowl 35.
- 41:08Hi, Craig Way.

- 42:35Why don't you jot it down?
- 42:37Mr. Gaddies, the best pizza in town.
- 42:41Honest.
- 42:42He's won by Boomer, he'd like to see him come out and throw it now.
- 42:46And the second point, maybe more importantly, is the fact that in two series they gained themselves 17 yards of field position in the kicking game.
- 42:53Sam Gansch is in, then the two Pro Bowls with the Buffalo Bills.
- 42:58Deep back, Jamal Lewis.
- 43:01Milford changing the play at the line of scrimmage.
- 43:04Lions adjust defensively to the five man front, they hit to Lewis into the heart of the line and lost a yard.
- 43:10I don't like this, man. I want Brian Dilley to let Trent Dilley throw it on this portion of the field.
- 43:16I mean, you already have the Giants, the momentum is on your side, so throw the football.
- 43:21Don't hand it up and run it in the middle where you can't get any yards.
- 43:24And we talked about it all week long, everybody said, who is going to be the most significant player that we don't really read that much about?
- 43:30And right now it's Richardson, the punter for the Ravens, who is out-punting Maynard thus far.
- 43:35And that's why the Ravens have had this kind of field position.
- 43:38Cedric Jones made the play just in for the Giants, a loss of a yard, second in at 11.
- 43:43Twin receivers to the left side.
- 43:46Six man Giants front, they're coming after Dilley, swings it out of the backfield, he's complete.
- 43:51He threw it too low for Jamal Lewis because Lewis had 15 yards of open field in front of him.
- 43:57This is one of those things we talk about missed opportunities, Bowman, here's one.
- 44:00They came with a man look outside, they matched up their linebacker Barrow on tight end sharp, they picked to the inside.
- 44:07Nobody could pick up on the outside of Jamal Lewis.
- 44:10There was a blown coverage.
- 44:12Blown coverage.
- 44:13This is what Trent Dilfer has been booed for all his career down here in Tampa, a guy running wide open.
- 44:19Everybody in the stadium sees it and he can't connect on an easy pass.
- 44:24Three down lineman Pete Montian is another linebacker on third down at 11.
- 44:29Priest Holmes in the game at running back and we're going to get a flag.
- 44:33Looks like some movement on the Baltimore offensive line.
- 44:37Looks to me like it was Hamilton who maybe moved a little bit too slow.
- 44:41Encroachment, 75 defense, 5 yards, still third down.
- 44:4610 sacks in 2000 for Keith Hamilton fourth amongst defensive tackles.
- 44:51Roy Glover of New Orleans led with 17 quarterback sacks.
- 44:55I thought he had an excellent year.
- 44:57Hamilton did have a great year.
- 44:59The thing about it is though that Trent Dilfer has got to complete the open passes.
- 45:04And this is a manageable third down here.
- 45:07It's third and five.
- 45:08He's got to complete a pass here.
- 45:09It's man coverage.
- 45:10That's a giant 46.
- 45:11Dilfer back to pass.
- 45:13Looking long.
- 45:14Airing it out and has a man.
- 45:16Oh, it's in complaint off the fingertips of Patrick Johnson who had at least a 5 yard lead on Jason Seahorn.
- 45:25One thing I don't believe that Dilfer does right, never believed he threw a very good deep ball.
- 45:30And Johnson beat him clean at the line of scrimmage.
- 45:33Never really got a jam on, just ran right by him.
- 45:36Oh my goodness.
- 45:37I mean, Patrick Johnson just left Jason Seahorn in the dirt.
- 45:40And if Trent could put a little more air on there, it's six.
- 45:43I mean, it's an easy play.
- 45:44That's two wide open receivers so far that Trent Dilfer has missed.
- 45:49Now let's see what Kyle Richardson does here, the parter for the Ravens, to see if he can put him inside the 10 yard line.
- 45:54This is the same thing with this second missed opportunity.
- 45:57Giants have just dodged a huge bullet.
- 46:00Richardson with a rocket punch.
- 46:02Barber lets it hit.
- 46:04And it takes a Baltimore bounce and dies at the 2 yard line.
- 46:12A 44 yard punt.
- 46:14As good as you can get for Richardson.
- 46:17Time out on the field.
- 46:18There's no score.

- 48:00I'd like to thank you for joining us for today's broadcast of Super Bowl 35 on CBS Radio Sports in Westwood 1.
- 48:08And a special hello to all of you around the world.
- 48:11Tuning us in on Armed Forces Radio, Howard David, Matt Mellon, Gomer Sison, John Dockery, and James Lofton.
- 48:17The Giants pinned up at their own goal line, at the one-yard line, off of a very good punt by Kyle Richardson.
- 48:24The Giants now will be faced first and 10 at their own one.
- 48:27A couple of changes, Keith Washington and Larry Webster into the front four for the Baltimore Ravens.
- 48:34Oh, here you go, an empty backfield, at least a start, but I would imagine Ron Dane will end up back there.
- 48:39They try to run the ball up the middle with him.
- 48:41Not a lot of room.
- 48:42Take a shot.
- 48:43High formation, Dane the deep back.
- 48:45That's movement by Lovis Brown on the left side.
- 48:48Oh, and then we're going to run Ron Dane right up the middle.
- 48:50Prior to this now, false start.
- 48:5276.
- 48:54Happiness is to the goal.
- 48:55It's still first down.
- 48:57We've had three of these sorts of penalties so far in this game early on.
- 49:00This is a little early jitters.
- 49:02Yeah, it is jitters, but when you're down here on this part of the field and you're a quarterback,
- 49:06you should be able to go on long counts down here because the penalties don't matter.
- 49:09Are we going to move an inch?
- 49:10It doesn't really matter.
- 49:11So if you're Kerry Collins, you could really try to hard count them down here, Matt, and try to get them all offside.
- 49:17The other thing you said before was Kerry Collins just got to calm down, slow down a little bit,
- 49:21get himself back into a rhythm if he can.
- 49:24Fifth drive so far between these two teams in five minutes.
- 49:28Five yards of total offense.
- 49:30Collins back into his end zone.
- 49:32Play axis.
- 49:33Crows over the middle of his tip at it around, and I think it might have been picked off by the Ravens.
- 49:38We'll see.
- 49:39Now they're calling it an incompletion.
- 49:41They are getting to Collins.
- 49:42Rob Burnett again.
- 49:43That was close to a sack.
- 49:44Very close.
- 49:45Very close.
- 49:46And remember, if they would do that and he throws a flag there for intentional ground, it would be a safety.
- 49:52That wasn't the case, however, but again, he did force it down inside and took a major chance.
- 49:58Larry Webster had a shot and came away with nothing instead.
- 50:01Now he looks second along.
- 50:02That ball actually hit McAllister.
- 50:05Then it caromed off and it hit Webster in the stomach.
- 50:08And one of the Giants, I couldn't see who it was, actually knocked it out of the hands of Webster it looked like.
- 50:13Giants second down from deep in their own territory about the half yard line.
- 50:18Collins with a long count rolls the pocket right.
- 50:21Crows it on the run and connects to Ike Hilliard for a first down.
- 50:26A 13 yard line of a Giants.
- 50:28That was nicely done by Sean Payton on the call.
- 50:32They know they had them problems with Pedigou, the right tackle.
- 50:35Burnett's eaten his lunch.
- 50:37He dropped down to the inside, got pressure.
- 50:39He rolled him out to the right side so they use it against him.
- 50:42And then Collins as he throws on the run is able to find Hilliard on about that 13 yard out.
- 50:48That's a 13 yard completion of the game's first first down with nine and a half to go in the first quarter.
- 50:53There's still no score.
- 50:54And they had to work to get it too, Matt, and that may be the thing that Terry Collins needs, a little catalyst to get him going now.
- 51:00Joe Montgomery in the game of tailback and he gets the call running right.
- 51:04Hurdles over the pile for a few yards to the 18 yard line where he is hit by Rod Woodson who's had just a brilliant career.
- 51:12Rod Woodson, by the way, Matt, I don't like bringing this up, but he had four interceptions on Boomer.
- 51:17You got lucky.
- 51:18Thanks, I appreciate that.
- 51:20But three of them with tip balls, three of them were in games that he lost.
- 51:24So relax.
- 51:25OK, I'm with you.
- 51:27I said deflections.
- 51:29Good. Nice tie, by the way.
- 51:31Thank you very much.
- 51:32Game of about three, second down and seven from the Giants 17.
- 51:36T.E. Barber back in the game and running back.
- 51:39He gets the call trying to run left and dark to the right.
- 51:42Not much there, gets about a yard.
- 51:44There won't be much there all night long, Howard.
- 51:46I mean, this they did there, Boomer.
- 51:48I don't know what they did there and it's just very down to the inside.
- 51:51They took him hard to the inside and bounce things out.
- 51:54They're going to try to run that little bit of counter.
- 51:56But with McCrary getting pressure inside, it's stuffed.
- 51:59Everybody talks about the interior lineman, Adams and Saragusa on this defense.
- 52:03But it's the outside guys, Burnett and McCrary are as just as difficult to block.
- 52:08And Pettigrew is finding out just how good Rob Burnett is.
- 52:12A dime defense now for the Baltimore Ravens.
- 52:15Third down at about five from their own 19 yard line for the Giants.
- 52:19Harry Collins out of his shotgun, sends Hilliard in motion.
- 52:22He takes the snap, looks to the right, throws to the right and batted away in a terrific play by Ray Lewis.
- 52:29On Joe Jerevichis, who is trying to run a crossing route underneath.
- 52:34He was going to take Jerevichis' speed versus Ray Lewis' speed.
- 52:37Ray Lewis played it perfect.
- 52:39Top side of his left arm as they're running across, they're going right to left.
- 52:43He leaves that to the top side, the right arm convinced, slaps the ball away.
- 52:46He can't be drawn a better.
- 52:48Now here you go, this is Maynard again, now the punter for the Giants.
- 52:51Now it's his turn to see if he can root one out of here to try to give his team a little bit of a breather.
- 52:56Ray Lewis who led the AFC.
- 52:59His punt return average is 16 per return and a high kick right down the middle.
- 53:0535 yard line, Lewis looking to run right, trying to turn the corner.
- 53:09He does, at the 50, to the 40, Lewis to the 35, flag is down and Lewis is down at the 23 yard line.
- 53:17A terrific run by Jermaine Lewis.
- 53:20He is tackled by Pete Monte but this one may be coming back just in touch.
- 53:25But more importantly, and Boomer said it right when it happened,
- 53:28if you've got a directional kick this guy, you can't give him a two way go.
- 53:32You know, I don't care if he kicks it out.
- 53:3445 of the receiving team during the run back.
- 53:3710 yards, first down.
- 53:39I don't care if he kicks it out right at the 48 yard line like he did last time.
- 53:43That doesn't matter.
- 53:44Do not kick the ball down the center of the field and allow Jermaine Lewis a two way go.
- 53:49Got it.
- 53:51And I've got to believe, I'm sorry guys, I've got to believe that Jim Fossil has told them,
- 53:56don't kick it down the middle.
- 53:58I can't believe they said, you know, just let it go.
- 54:00Just because you're having trouble directional kicking.
- 54:02Seven and a half to play in the first quarter of that, a 46 yard punt but a 45 yard return.
- 54:07Of course brought back a little bit because of the penalty.
- 54:11And the Ravens will have great field position at the giant 41 yard line.
- 54:15And that was a good call.
- 54:16Yeah, it was a good call.
- 54:17Throw the ball here.
- 54:19Throw the football.
- 54:20Throw the ball.
- 54:21Let's go, throw it Trent, let's go.
- 54:23High formation.
- 54:25They run the ball, the Lewis runs left.
- 54:28Inside the 40 to the 38 yard line, a pick up of three, Michael Barrow, who had a terrific year in his eighth season from Miami.
- 54:37Actually, I was expecting, I'm expecting more of that with Jonathan Noggin on that left side, on Cedric Jones.
- 54:43They're going to run the football, I expect them to pound that side.
- 54:45Now, you can offset that defensively, you can set your safety to that side, or you can go with an over front or an under front to that side to protect him.
- 54:52I think he just throw the ball.
- 54:54Or he could throw it.
- 54:55Throw it.
- 54:57He could throw the ball.
- 54:59Brandon Stokely in the game is a third wide out.
- 55:03Guilford, back to pass, looking long, down the middle of the field, he's got a man complete.
- 55:08Brandon Stokely, touchdown.
- 55:11Touchdown, Bolivar Ravens, Brandon Stokely, who had 11 catches last year, one fall last year for 28 yards, just made the biggest grab of his life for 38 yards.
- 55:23Ravens runners seem to have it right down the inside of the numbers, and again, this is the second time they're going after Jason Sehorn.
- 55:30And a perfectly thrown ball this time by Trent Dilford, but Matt, this is what I'm talking about.
- 55:35The Giants are electing to play man coverage, forcing Trent Dilford to make the plays.
- 55:40Stokely gets right away from Sehorn, right up the numbers, and a beautifully thrown ball.
- 55:46A point after for Stover out of the hole, the Richardson and the Ravens take the lead, 7-0, with 6.50 to go in the first quarter.
- 55:54They jumped into the outside, expecting help to the inside out of the safety as they went left to right.
- 55:59It didn't happen.
- 56:00They beat them with a perfect throw down the middle, good protection, 7-0 to Baltimore.
- 56:05You're listening to exclusive coverage of Super Bowl 35 on Westwood 1.
- 56:13Hey Bill, this is Vinnie Testaverde calling.

- 56:27My son's getting married this year, and they're a Jets fan too, so we have it in the family.
- 56:31Thanks for being an NFL fan.
- 56:32It's been a great 2000 NFL season, and on behalf of the NFL and all 32 clubs,

- 57:11Let's get set.
- 57:13Wouldn't it be amazing to fly to L.A. and sort of live like a movie star for a few days?
- 57:17You could go to Priceline.com for a steal on airline tickets,
- 57:20and then parlay the money you save into a cashmere place shopping spree,
- 57:24a deep tissue massage, or dinner at a fancy restaurant.
- 57:27And then if somehow you wound up on a late night talk show in the host's bed,
- 57:31you look fantastic. What's your secret?
- 57:34You'd say, oh, discount a Zyno airfare.
- 57:37Maybe on price and save Priceline.com.
- 57:42Two plays, 41 yards in just 40 seconds.
- 57:46Gilsburg to Stokely for the game's first score.
- 57:48Let's go down to James Watson. James?
- 57:50Well, you're not really going down to me because you can wander around the stadium.
- 57:53You can walk into luxury boxes if you have the right pass.
- 57:56Believe it or not, I'm in a box with Coach Don Schuola and Joe Namath,
- 58:00two combatants from Super Bowl III, Joe Namath first.
- 58:02We all know about the guarantee. You guys won, all that.
- 58:05What's your assessment of the quarterback's play on this field in the first quarter so far?
- 58:09Well, you know, James, as a quarterback, you're a receiver.
- 58:12We know we've got to have the help up front to get the job done.
- 58:15Right now that giant line is not giving Collins certainly the time.
- 58:19And Dilfer and this offensive game plan that they have going is terrific.
- 58:23He missed Stokely once for that long touchdown.
- 58:26He could have had over C-1 and then hit him a second time.
- 58:29Right now Baltimore is doing everything it seems like they want to do
- 58:32and certainly winning the battle field position.
- 58:34Yeah, field position exactly right. Matt Stover just kicked off to Rod Dixon.
- 58:38Great coverage by the Ravens again.
- 58:40Ball inside the 15-yard line.
- 58:43This has to be a coach's dream or a coach's nightmare, Don Schuola.
- 58:47If you are the coach on the giant sideline, what do you do now?
- 58:50It's a nightmare. You know, they were backed up on their own one-yard line before
- 58:53and then they got a penalty on first down back to the half-yard line.
- 58:56They came out with a first down and got them a little better field position,
- 59:00but the Ravens are just controlling the field position.
- 59:03And then they had the big play with Dilfer throwing the bomb.
- 59:06I remember a couple of Miami golfing defenses like this.
- 59:09Back to you guys in the booth.
- 59:11Alright, James. Colin Spro's on time to Camelo who gets hit after a couple of yards.
- 59:17Boy, Boomer and I spent some time with the great Don Schuola on Friday.
- 59:21We could have spoken with him for 10, 11, 12 hours.
- 59:24Instead we had to talk to 10, 11, 12 radio stations that day
- 59:27thanks to Howie Denteroff, our producer.
- 59:29But you know, the thing was...
- 59:30You sound bitter about that.
- 59:31A little bit, but when I listen to Joe Namath, he talks about the offensive line.
- 59:35And right now the offensive line of the Giants, he's exactly right,
- 59:38is getting beaten to the point right now by this defensive line of the Ravens, Matt.
- 59:43Second down and eight for the Giants in the road 16.
- 59:46And the Ravens' confidence is taking another pop upstairs as Barber tries to sweep left.
- 59:52Not much. Beautiful. Ray Lewis cuts him down at the 18-yard line.
- 59:56What we had, a very confident group of this Raven team all week long
- 1:00:01and certainly what has happened so far has not stopped their confidence.
- 1:00:04What they're trying to do though, Howard, down here is they can't run inside.
- 1:00:08So now they're trying to get to the edge.
- 1:00:09And they're doing it by trying to take the outside blocks and get angles on them.
- 1:00:13But the pursuit of this defense and that good job of Ray Lewis,
- 1:00:16they don't let anybody get to him.
- 1:00:18He just ran from the inside out.
- 1:00:20But credit Macalester for holding the edge and allowing Ray Lewis to be able to make that play.
- 1:00:25First time the Giants have trailed in postseason in this third game for them.
- 1:00:31Mitchell, the tight end in motion. Collins rolling right.
- 1:00:34Trying to take off and run with it and slides at the 20-yard line.
- 1:00:38So the Giants go three and out.
- 1:00:41Well, you know what they were trying to do there?
- 1:00:43They're trying to do a little shovel pass to keep Barber underneath Burnett.
- 1:00:46But this time Burnett stays tight to the line of scrimmage.
- 1:00:49And Terry Collins has no choice but to try to run around the end.
- 1:00:52Right, and he's speeding himself up and he's got to slow himself down.
- 1:00:56Well, the defense is certainly just absolutely in the face of every Giant player.
- 1:01:00As soon as they touch the ball in that last play when Tiki Barber tried to get outside,
- 1:01:04that is the beauty of Ray Lewis, that middle linebacker.
- 1:01:06He has the speed to get outside and make that tackle at the line of scrimmage.
- 1:01:10Third three and out in four possessions for the Giants.
- 1:01:13Nothing new for Baltimore. They have forced three and outs 45% of the time this year.
- 1:01:18A short kick, relatively speaking, by Maynard.
- 1:01:21Lewis feels it, then mucks it.
- 1:01:23And I think the Ravens, that's loose again.
- 1:01:25I think the Ravens though have recovered it, but inside their own 30-yard line.
- 1:01:30And look where it is. It's right on the sideline.
- 1:01:32That time a great punt by Brad Maynard.
- 1:01:35He cut the field all the way down to the sideline and the Giants were right there, Matt.
- 1:01:40This way you give the punt returner only one way to go with the football.
- 1:01:45And if the Giants are getting down the field the way they did on that time,
- 1:01:48this is exactly what could happen. They could force turnover.
- 1:01:50Seven-nothing Baltimore. You're listening to exclusive coverage of Super Bowl 35 on Westwood Wands.
- 1:01:55I watched the ripples change their size, but never knew the stream.

- 1:03:28Let's pause ten seconds for station identification.
- 1:03:31This is CBS Radio Sports' exclusive coverage of Super Bowl 35 on Westwood One.
- 1:03:49Our David Matt Millen, Boomer Esiason, John Dockery and James Lawson.
- 1:03:53The Ravens with their worst starting field position at their own 28-yard line.
- 1:03:5748-yard punt by Maynard before the muck by Jermaine Lewis.
- 1:04:02The Ravens start out at their own 28-yard line, first and 10 with a 7-0 lead.
- 1:04:08And we're going to get a false start against Baltimore.
- 1:04:11Now to me, I never quite figured that out.
- 1:04:13How could you get a false start on the first play of the night?
- 1:04:1564 offense, 5 yards, and still first down.
- 1:04:21Well, that's a good question, Howard. I often wondered that myself many times.
- 1:04:25Usually the quarterback goes in there and says, OK, guys, it's on one just to get things rolling.
- 1:04:29But in this kind of game, the one thing we do know is that these guys are so jacked up
- 1:04:33that there's going to be penalties, especially penalties like this, especially early in the game.
- 1:04:38Yeah, but it should be over by now. It's a four-minute mark.
- 1:04:40You see your gut should be settled down.
- 1:04:42These are that three penalties for 20 yards. They go out of the eye.
- 1:04:45And they try to hand it off on a straight dive to Jamal Lewis.
- 1:04:48He doesn't get much, maybe a yard. Michael Barrow meets him head on.
- 1:04:53Boy, that's a nice job of Jesse Armstead and Michael Barrow.
- 1:04:56They try a simple isolation as they're going left to right.
- 1:04:59They tried to hit it just right inside.
- 1:05:01And Barrow and Armstead hit it beautifully right inside. Love that.
- 1:05:04Just rubbing those guys Lee with their head, don't you?
- 1:05:06Oh, yeah, you got to. That's what this game's all about.
- 1:05:10Giants have allowed just two runs longer than 20 yards all year long.
- 1:05:15Jamal Lewis in the postseason is only averaging three yards per carry.
- 1:05:19He's got a mismatch out here with Sam Gardner and the slot receiver.
- 1:05:23Delphar on the handoff, straight ahead.
- 1:05:25Lewis, not much, maybe another yard.
- 1:05:28Michael Strahan is there to meet him.
- 1:05:30You know, I would have thought that Brian Billig saw Trento for throwing that fall
- 1:05:34for the touchdown of Stokely over Seeharns,
- 1:05:36that he would give him an opportunity to come out here and now throw during this series.
- 1:05:40Now, it's third and 11.
- 1:05:42This is not what you want to be against a defense like the Giants.
- 1:05:46You know, conservative is one thing.
- 1:05:48I guess maybe he feels like he has enough points on the board, Matt.
- 1:05:51He might.
- 1:05:53And, you know, he does have time on his side.
- 1:05:55You only have three and a half, four quarters.
- 1:05:58He's still pitching the shutout.
- 1:06:01Cornelius Griffin, the rookie defensive end for Matt Obamas in the game for the Giants.
- 1:06:05Delphar backs the throw on third and 11.
- 1:06:07A lot of time.
- 1:06:08Throws it out to the left low ball, incomplete, looking for Stokely.
- 1:06:12And the Reabons go three and out.
- 1:06:15Well, that's the Trento for that everybody's been, been booing for the last few years.
- 1:06:20But he had Shannon Sharp wide open about eight yards underneath Stokely.
- 1:06:24He just throws it to Shannon Sharp.
- 1:06:26You are funny.
- 1:06:27What are you talking about?
- 1:06:28Because I've seen the same thing.
- 1:06:29The guy is wide open.
- 1:06:30You figure to yourself, you know what?
- 1:06:32Just calm down, see the guy throw the ball.
- 1:06:34It looks easy from up here.
- 1:06:35I know that.
- 1:06:36And I'm probably.
- 1:06:37He had a lot of time.
- 1:06:38He did have a lot of time.
- 1:06:39Very good block.
- 1:06:40How about Ike Hilliard now going to return the punt.
- 1:06:44Richardson who's punted extremely well thus far in his first quarter.
- 1:06:47Good snap from center.
- 1:06:49And Richardson lays the wood to the leather and drives it deep upfield.
- 1:06:52Hilliard at the 20.
- 1:06:54Nice move on the first tackler.
- 1:06:56He's to the 35 and finally forced out of bounds.
- 1:06:59That's a 39-yard line of the Giants.
- 1:07:03Boy that was a heck of a move by Ike Hilliard.
- 1:07:06A 16-yard return of a 53-yard kick.
- 1:07:09And finally some breathing room for the Giants offense.
- 1:07:12First time in Super Bowl history you the fans can cast a deciding vote for tonight's MVP.

- 1:07:22Super Bowl dot com is the official site of Super Bowl 35.
- 1:07:26Ron Dane comes in for the Giants and two tight ends, Dan Campbell and Howard Cross.
- 1:07:31And as the Giants start to drive at their own 39, moving from right to left on your radio.
- 1:07:377-0 Baltimore, first quarter.
- 1:07:42Cross in motion.
- 1:07:44Collins play action, looking middle, throwing deep down the middle of the ballpark and incomplete.
- 1:07:50He had Hilliard. He had him on a post and just let him too long.
- 1:07:54He let it go just as he was letting it go.
- 1:07:57He got hit right around the legs.
- 1:07:59But I'll tell you when he let it go I thought it was going to be a touchdown, Matt.
- 1:08:02He had a shot.
- 1:08:03Ike Hilliard didn't lay out for this ball and I don't know why.
- 1:08:06He makes an outside move and then comes back inside and it's running straight down the middle of the field.
- 1:08:11Ran right by Kim Herring who was playing center field.
- 1:08:14He got to the inside of Starks.
- 1:08:16Herring got up too tight but McCrary hit him like he said on the feet as he was getting ready to throw.
- 1:08:21Like the call though on first down.
- 1:08:23Herring has not played in the postseason.
- 1:08:25He's missed a couple of games with a sore ankle.
- 1:08:28Collins pumping left, throws right.
- 1:08:30The screen, the barber tries to cut back and falls down.
- 1:08:34Oh great play though by Ray Lewis.
- 1:08:36Spot off, two blockers in the open field.
- 1:08:39And yes he did slip but Lewis was right there on top of it to set up this third down.
- 1:08:44So it'll be two minutes and ten seconds remaining in the first quarter.
- 1:08:48The Ravens with a 7-0 lead on the touchdown pass.
- 1:08:51The Brandon Stokely.
- 1:08:53I think if Tiki Barber doesn't slip down maybe he's able to get away because,
- 1:08:57you're right, Ray Lewis did fight off two offensive linemen right in his face.
- 1:09:02It was a nice play splitting those guys but I think it caused Tiki's slip.
- 1:09:07He was able to make the play.
- 1:09:08Oh yeah.
- 1:09:09Well the Ravens looking to put pressure on Kerry Collins out of his shotgun.
- 1:09:13Blitz is on.
- 1:09:14Collins steps up, hairs it out deep down the right and he overthrows his receiver,
- 1:09:19Omani Tumer by a mile.
- 1:09:21It was a zone blitz, boom.
- 1:09:22It was a zone blitz.
- 1:09:23This time Ray Lewis gets back there to Kerry Collins and hits him as he throws the football.
- 1:09:27But you know what?
- 1:09:29I think we're seeing what Jim Fossil has decided to do offensively.
- 1:09:32We're going to throw the ball down the field and sooner or later we're going to hit one of these.
- 1:09:37He just has to hope that Brian Billich plays offense like he did the last series.
- 1:09:41Run, run and then try to pass.
- 1:09:43Put the ball ahead of his quarterback on third down.
- 1:09:46Put it in his hands on first down.
- 1:09:48It's a little bit different opportunities for you.
- 1:09:50Giants have gone three and out, four out of their five drives.
- 1:09:54Mena with a very short punt.
- 1:09:56Fair catch called for by Lewis.
- 1:09:58They let it hit and it dies at about the 23 yard line of the Baltimore Ravens.
- 1:10:04Let's go down to John Dockery.
- 1:10:06Dockery.
- 1:10:07You know Howard you've been talking about the field position.
- 1:10:09Obviously the Ravens in a plus field position yardage.
- 1:10:11It's no different from the three games they had, playoff games.
- 1:10:14Their average start turned those three playoff games to 40 yard line.
- 1:10:17The opponents to 26 yard line.
- 1:10:20Now that 14 yard difference supports Billich's formula for success.
- 1:10:24Great defense, outstanding special teams, field position and opportunistic offense.
- 1:10:30We've missed three opportunities so far.
- 1:10:36High formation behind Bilford from his own 23.
- 1:10:39He's going to pass on first down.
- 1:10:41Steps up the throw.
- 1:10:42Here's it out, got him in.
- 1:10:43The defensive back fell down.
- 1:10:45And Bilford threw the ball out of bounds.
- 1:10:48The pass intended for Patrick Johnson died a miserable death out of bounds.
- 1:10:54Two things here.
- 1:10:55Number one, I have no idea what Jason Sehorn is thinking about tonight.
- 1:10:59He's not.
- 1:11:00Three times he's been beat.
- 1:11:01And I mean beat seriously.
- 1:11:03Johnson runs past him again.
- 1:11:06It's a little stop and go.
- 1:11:07Jason slips, tries to get up, tries to trip him.
- 1:11:10Misses it.
- 1:11:11This guy is running wide open Matt.
- 1:11:13And Trent Dilford throws it out of bounds.
- 1:11:15And this is why Trent Dilford has heard the boo.
- 1:11:18Opportunity number four.
- 1:11:21Dilford two for eight for 42 yards.
- 1:11:24One of those passes was for 38 in the touchdown.
- 1:11:27And off the Lewis running left across the 25 and gang tackled by Big Blue.
- 1:11:33At the 26 yard line by Sean Williams who leads the charge.
- 1:11:37If I were Dilford right, if I was Brian Billich, I'd go after Jason Sehorn.
- 1:11:42I'd go after Jason Sehorn right now because his confidence, I mean just the way he's carrying himself,
- 1:11:46he's doubting himself right now.
- 1:11:48And I'd go right after him.
- 1:11:49Patrick Johnson has ran past him twice now.
- 1:11:52Stokely ran past him on the inside.
- 1:11:54I would think that this is where your best, I don't know what's going on with Jason Sehorn right now.
- 1:11:58Well he's messed up man outside with no help from the safety.
- 1:12:02And you talked about they wanted to go after Dave Thomas which seemed to be the plan.
- 1:12:06They're going right after Jason Sehorn.
- 1:12:08Blitz on, Dilford throws out to the left with the low ball again.
- 1:12:12Incomplete.
- 1:12:13Wide open.
- 1:12:14And he was looking again for Patrick Johnson.
- 1:12:16How many low balls has Dilford run?
- 1:12:18And Dilford wobbling as he goes back to the Baltimore sideline.
- 1:12:22He's wobbling because he wants everybody to know that he was hit by Michael Strahan as he released the football.
- 1:12:27You know what?
- 1:12:28And I mean it wasn't that bad of a hit at all.
- 1:12:30You know what?
- 1:12:31It's not that bad.
- 1:12:32But I will tell you this.
- 1:12:34That that guy was wide open again.
- 1:12:37Again was he wide open.
- 1:12:39And Jason Sehorn fell down again.
- 1:12:41That's right buddy.
- 1:12:42I know you can make that through in your sleep.
- 1:12:45Please wake up.
- 1:12:47Richardson with another good punt.
- 1:12:49Hilliard, James Zuckerman at the 28 yard line running right.
- 1:12:52Across the 35 to the 40.
- 1:12:54And spilled at about the 41 yard line by the Ravens.
- 1:12:58Jamie Sharper a 44 yard kick.
- 1:13:01But a 13 yard return and the Giants have good field position.
- 1:13:05With 18 seconds to go in the first quarter they trail 7-0.
- 1:13:08It should be 21 to nothing.
- 1:13:09Trent Dilford should have 250 yards passing and the game should be over.
- 1:13:13And not in that order.
- 1:13:15And thank God for the Giants that it's not happening.
- 1:13:19It's not happening.
- 1:13:20It's one out of eight or one out of nine passes.
- 1:13:22Let me go back to this thing.
- 1:13:23We said at the start it's going to come down to missed opportunities.
- 1:13:26Those are counted as mistakes.
- 1:13:27And there are four missed opportunities here today by Dilford.
- 1:13:30I want to see the Giants continue to do what they've been trying to do.
- 1:13:33And that's throw the ball down the field.
- 1:13:35Four man front for Baltimore.
- 1:13:37They're going to run with bombers straight ahead.
- 1:13:39Trying to test the heart of that Baltimore line and they get nowhere.
- 1:13:42Well, we're coming down to the end of the first quarter.
- 1:13:45But only once over the last 12 Silver Balls has the team that trailed after the first quarter gone on to win the game.
- 1:13:51That was Super Bowl 31.
- 1:13:52Packers beat the Patriots.
- 1:13:54You know you're not getting any yards on first down.
- 1:13:56Just throw it.
- 1:13:57It doesn't matter just throw it.
- 1:13:58Got you covered.
- 1:13:597-0 Ravens.
- 1:14:00After one you're listening to exclusive coverage of Super Bowl 35 on Westwood Wall.

- 1:14:32Nothing lasts longer.
- 1:14:33Not even Zantac 75.
- 1:14:34Look for new pepsin complete in the bright blue box or in the bottle with the big red cap.
- 1:14:39New extra strength Rolades profiles super fan Tom Dolan.
- 1:14:43Baseball is about pacing yourself.
- 1:14:45Amateurs after the first inning they give out.
- 1:14:47Me? I work up to it.
- 1:14:48First inning hot dogs.
- 1:14:49Second inning cheese fries.
- 1:14:50Third chili dogs.
- 1:14:51By the seventh inning stretch.
- 1:14:53It's new Rolades.

- 1:15:07Eighth inning bratwurst.
- 1:15:08How does the Rubbermaid storage shed compare to an untreated wooden shed?
- 1:15:14Well this is a baseball bat striking the Rubbermaid shed.
- 1:15:18A bat striking the wood shed.
- 1:15:20Termites tasting the Rubbermaid shed.
- 1:15:24Termites tasting the wood shed.
- 1:15:27Your teenage son backing into the Rubbermaid shed.
- 1:15:30Backing into the wood shed.
- 1:15:35Remember if it doesn't say Rubbermaid it's not worth it.
- 1:15:38Rocks you are but boulders only smaller.
- 1:15:42Rocks you break scissors and are covered by paper and that will drive over you and embarrass you in front of your own.
- 1:15:50Ho ho sweet retribution.
- 1:15:52Okay maybe Jeep Grand Cherokee owners look at rocks a little differently.
- 1:15:55With its available quadra drive system, Jeep's most advanced four wheel drive system ever, it's easy to see how even rocks become insignificant.
- 1:16:02Grand Cherokee, it kind of evens out the whole man versus nature thing.
- 1:16:05Jeep is a registered trademark of Dunlop Chrysler.
- 1:16:09In two playoff games the Giants have dominated their opponents and tore them apart.
- 1:16:16Most notably of course the NFC Championship game against Philadelphia where they won 41-0.
- 1:16:21Well they're 41 points behind that total right now.
- 1:16:24It's 7-0 Baltimore as we start the second quarter.
- 1:16:27Collins out of his shotgun, second and nine.
- 1:16:29Curls over the middle and behind the receiver, I. Killiard who's just got tattooed by Jamie Sharper across the middle.
- 1:16:37I don't know what these quarterbacks on these two teams have around their eyes but it certainly isn't eyeglasses because I don't know what they're looking at.
- 1:16:44I mean they're, he almost got I. Killiard killed running across the middle.
- 1:16:48Yes he did and it would have been his fault though, the ball gets tipped at the line of Scrimmage by Syragusa.
- 1:16:53You know, I understand, a lot of pressure.
- 1:16:56I've been in this situation myself, didn't have the greatest game in my life but there are guys that are open.
- 1:17:01I mean, I think these receivers are probably going to be looking at themselves going what do we have to do?
- 1:17:08Just got to slow themselves down.
- 1:17:09Kerry Collins got to slow themselves down.
- 1:17:11Third down and nine and the all out blitz is coming, they pick it up as Collins throws, incomplete.
- 1:17:18Intended for I. Killiard who seemingly had the defense beaten but the ball not on target and again the Giants go fling it out.
- 1:17:26Well the amazing thing is that I. Killiard actually was in on that play because he almost got decapitated on the play before but just another seam pattern right up the middle.
- 1:17:34That's exactly the touchdown pass that he caught against the Minnesota Vikings, that same thing.
- 1:17:39This time there's an actual real free safety on the field and his name is Rod Woodson.
- 1:17:43And Robert Bailey who's been around this league for a while had his coverage from the outside and didn't allow that ball.
- 1:17:49Tenth punt of the game.
- 1:17:51Maynard gets this one away and this is a good kick.
- 1:17:54Fair catch ball for by Lewis who hauls it in at the 14 yard line.
- 1:17:58Most punts in the Super Bowl, 15.
- 1:18:00We've already had 10 on this one.
- 1:18:02That's a 45 yard kick.
- 1:18:04And we have 14 minutes and 41 seconds to go in the second quarter.
- 1:18:07We've got some great offense going down here boys.
- 1:18:09This could be 30 punts today before it's all over.
- 1:18:11We're going to have to matriculate down the field.
- 1:18:13It's 7-0 Baltimore. This is Westwood 1's coverage of Super Bowl 35.
- 1:18:17What if you invited all your friends over to a Super Bowl party?
- 1:18:21If you stutter or if a child does, the NSA wants you to know you're not alone.

- 1:18:43But if you're alone, isolated, and forced to do it, you're leased.
- 1:18:47Call today.
- 1:18:49Mom, I can't keep up with you.

- 1:19:09We have a vital interest in your lives.
- 1:19:12Not bad, honey. Call them.
- 1:19:14Bird, bird's the word.
- 1:19:19It's been a great 2000 NFL season, and on behalf of the NFL and all 32 clubs, we'd like to thank you for supporting your favorite team this year.
- 1:19:27And of course, we'll see you again next season.
- 1:19:29We've got a James Lawson team.
- 1:19:31Well, Boomer and Matt, I know we've seen some shaky play by the quarterback so far,
- 1:19:35but I've also on the sidelines seen both head coaches trying to calm their guys down when they come off the field.
- 1:19:42And I really believe it's going to be the first quarterback who's able to, I guess, hold his lunch down a little better and find some of these guys who are open in the secondary.
- 1:19:51That's the guy who's really going to be successful.
- 1:19:53But I think the defenses have done a good job with that extra week off and mixing the coverages up a little bit, because I've seen quarterbacks, they stick their eyes to one side and they get blinded by what's around them.
- 1:20:04So they're really not seeing the open guys.
- 1:20:06Trent Dilfer obviously has missed some open receivers, but Terry Collins, he's throwing off his back foot, throwing from the backpedal.
- 1:20:12Neither guy feels comfortable in the pocket or in this ballgame.
- 1:20:17So far, a total of 82 yards of this game, 54 by Baltimore, 38 on one play.
- 1:20:25Two tight ends, Coates and Shark for Baltimore.
- 1:20:28The handoff, the Lowers trying to run left across the 15-yard line and Yang tackled it to 16, led by Ryan Phillips.
- 1:20:35Well, you're talking about these two quarterbacks.
- 1:20:37They were both first-round picks, but both failed with the teams that drafted them.
- 1:20:41And there's no question that they've resurrected themselves and they've done it great and everything's fine that they're here.
- 1:20:46And we talked about this, Matt, all week long.
- 1:20:48The one quarterback with the iron-clad stomach, the guy that's going to be able to handle his failures and his team's failures as this game goes on, the best,
- 1:20:56just like James said, will be able to weather that storm and then come back and hopefully lead his team to victory.
- 1:21:01But at this point, I can't even tell you which one it's going to be.
- 1:21:04Second down and nine, and Dilfer wants to throw.
- 1:21:07Out to the left, throws and connects.
- 1:21:09Short pick up to the tight end, Bing Coates, the former.
- 1:21:12The England Patriot who makes the catch at the 19-yard line after a pick up of three.
- 1:21:17So now let's go to the other side of the football.
- 1:21:19And it's just like we thought, Boomer, that both these defenses are playing very, very well.
- 1:21:24And the one thing I've got to say is, is Trent Dilfer has had some time.
- 1:21:28He's had time and opportunity where Kerry Collins has not had the time and he has been rushing himself.
- 1:21:34They did do a good job earlier of getting him on the edge to try to buy a little bit of time.
- 1:21:39Right now, I think the advantage goes to Dilfer in terms of having the opportunity to throw.
- 1:21:44Stokely in the game is a wide out. He's hurt the Giants already.
- 1:21:47Back to pass, Dilfer.
- 1:21:49Throws it out to the left, the catch is made and squirming for a first down.
- 1:21:53After the catch, it is complete to Patrick Johnson.
- 1:21:58Again, time to throw, Boom.
- 1:22:00Time to protect him pretty well. He's able to find you underneath, make the throw.
- 1:22:03And he threw it nicely. Threw it decisively.
- 1:22:06Didn't look like he let it go and was wondering where it was going to come down.
- 1:22:09It was a nice throw by Tantow for that time.
- 1:22:11But again, we're talking about the defenses.
- 1:22:14Everybody has pretty much shown up for the Giants with the exception of Jason Teehorn.
- 1:22:18I mean, now he made, he blew three coverages.
- 1:22:21Yes, he did.
- 1:22:22And lucky. Seven-nothing Baltimore right there.
- 1:22:25Go ahead. Seven-nothing Baltimore in the second quarter.
- 1:22:27Two and a half gone by.
- 1:22:29A handoff. Jamal Lewis straight ahead and he is hit immediately by Jack Golden.
- 1:22:35All the runbacks are going to be hit immediately today.
- 1:22:38That's just the way it's going to be.
- 1:22:40If you love defense and you love the way that teams rally to the football,
- 1:22:44you like physical football, which I think, Matt, you probably prefer,
- 1:22:47this is a thing of beauty to you guys who are defensive purists.
- 1:22:51And the other part of it, you have to remember, in every defensive scheme,
- 1:22:54there's going to be a weakness in the scheme and time will give your quarterback the opportunity to find it.
- 1:22:59Second down and seven for the Ravens. They lead seven-nothing.
- 1:23:02They're at their own 29. Dilfer rolling right.
- 1:23:05A rarity for him. Running out of room and just throws it away as he was being chased to the sideline.
- 1:23:11Well, again, they rolled to try to buy some time, but he got pressure from the inside out.
- 1:23:15It was only a two-receiver out.
- 1:23:17One down the sideline and another one back to the inside.
- 1:23:20Well covered. He had nowhere to go with it and had to just throw it away.
- 1:23:23And Jesse Armstead just absolutely levels Trent Dilfer on the sideline.
- 1:23:27They also take out an official who almost blows his knee out.
- 1:23:30Dilfer said earlier this week, my legacy is I want to be the quarterback of the team that wins the Super Bowl in spite of its quarterback.
- 1:23:37That's not the way to go into a game, do you think?
- 1:23:40Those aren't very high aspirations, I'll tell you that.
- 1:23:43No matter how bad I was, I wouldn't be saying that.
- 1:23:46I'd be saying I'm going to win the game for the team somehow.
- 1:23:49But that's just me, right guys? You're a very low-key guy though.
- 1:23:52Dilfer with a deep drop in trouble and gets sacked back at the 20.
- 1:23:56First sack of Dilfer and it's recorded by who else?
- 1:24:00Michael Strahan who's had an outstanding postseason.
- 1:24:03But it really should go to Michael Barrow because Barrow came around the edge.
- 1:24:09Strahan came to the inside. He forced him to step up to the pocket.
- 1:24:13And because Barrow missed him, Strahan can get the sack.
- 1:24:16You've got to love what Strahan does. He jumps into Harry Swain.
- 1:24:19He grabs him and doesn't allow Swain to come off because he knows that Barrow's coming around.
- 1:24:24And that's good team defense, Matt. Pick tough, that's what it's called.
- 1:24:27Richardson with a kick, a wobbly kick.
- 1:24:30It hits at the 45 of the Giants and dies at the 40-yard line.
- 1:24:34So the Giants will get terrific field position after just a 39-yard kick.
- 1:24:39But Baltimore has a 7-0 lead with 11.22 to go and a half.
- 1:24:43This is Westwood 1's coverage of Super Bowl 35.
- 1:24:46We're taking your calls at 1-800-CONSTABATION.
- 1:24:50I feel like I've had too many helpings of my sister and a lot of stuffed potato dumplings.

- 1:25:17Hi, this is Craig White. To tell you once more that Sprint PCS offers great deals on Sprint PCS digital phones.
- 1:25:22They ought to. Sprint PCS offers the only all-digital, all-PCS nationwide network that they themselves built from the ground up,
- 1:25:30serving more than 300 major metropolitan areas.
- 1:25:33I should know. I've used my Sprint PCS phone in nearly all of those major metropolitan areas.
- 1:25:38You can really tell the difference.
- 1:25:40Take it from me and try Sprint PCS. It is, after all, the clear alternative to cellular.
- 1:25:46Swing! And it's done it again! Woo! 70 home runs!
- 1:25:52I traded off every hit, every home run, every record to know that every child is safe.
- 1:26:02A new home run champion, Mark McGuire.

- 1:26:18A track of a big game with in-game stats and scoring from Superball.com.
- 1:26:22Every stat, every angle, exclusively at Superball.com, the official site of Superball 35, powered by CBS Sportsline.com.
- 1:26:31Well, the Baltimore defense has allowed only 165 points this year, breaking the record of 187 by the 86 Bears.
- 1:26:37Also, Tennessee yielded just 191 points, third-fewest all-time.
- 1:26:42As a matter of fact, whoever wins this game will have given up the fewest points of any Superball winner in history.
- 1:26:48Well, you know, the interesting thing is we only had a 39-yard punt by Richardson, and that's probably because he's tired.
- 1:26:56That's part of the game plan. Wear the punter out.
- 1:26:59Wear him down, baby.
- 1:27:01Eleven punts in this game already. Seven-nothing Baltimore. Collins rolling right.
- 1:27:07Being chased from behind is a flag down, and Collins runs out of room as he was being chased by Sam Adams from the backside.
- 1:27:14We're going to get holding against Baltimore, I think, in the secondary.
- 1:27:17Yeah, you are. It's on the linebacker back underneath. It's Cornell Brown. He got his hands on Ike Hilliard underneath.
- 1:27:25You can get a jam at five yards. You just can't get a grab at five yards.
- 1:27:29They were going to roll that back out. I like the adjustment here, Bull.
- 1:27:32They're not handling the inside rush, so they're rolling them out to the outside.
- 1:27:37Flag is against Baltimore. Defensive holding, automatic first down for the Giants.
- 1:27:41We have 11-15 to play on the half, and the Ravens have a seven-nothing lead.
- 1:27:46And I agree with you, Matt. First down, throw the football. They're not having any success whatsoever running it up in the middle.
- 1:27:52And I have to believe by watching the way the offense has tried to do it for the Giants,
- 1:27:56they think that they're going to put it in Kerry Collins' hands and let him throw the football.
- 1:28:00They have kind of consciously stayed away from Lamonti Tumor, the Giants, for whatever the reason.
- 1:28:04They're a wide receiver. They're big receivers. Collins backs, looks right, in trouble, gets away, and just throws it away.
- 1:28:11And there's a flag down. We meet it. Another holding call against Baltimore's secondary.
- 1:28:16That's exactly what you're going to get, and it's down against...
- 1:28:20Is it against the Starks? Tumor is against the Starks, right? Yeah, it was a smart play by Collins.
- 1:28:25He kind of saw what was going on. He just threw it.
- 1:28:27And you take a shot. If you have time to see that, to see it happening downfield, developing for you, why not give it a shot?
- 1:28:33Well, the thing is, he wasn't really getting much time. He had to avoid a rush and just took a step.
- 1:28:38And actually, he just threw it. He didn't see what the heck was going on. Sam Adams beat the guard like a drum.
- 1:28:43Oh, you can see exactly what Starks just runs right into. I kill you as he's trying to get down the field.
- 1:28:48And many of us think this is the best way to go after the Ravens. Just keep throwing it downfield.
- 1:28:54Maybe it's a big play by your receiver. Maybe it's a great throw by your quarterback.
- 1:28:58It also can be an interference or a penalty downfield against one of these defensive backs of the Ravens.
- 1:29:02Two bumps in a row. They picked up 10 yards. They still have first down.
- 1:29:05And they haven't done anything offensively.
- 1:29:07At the 50-yard line, that's five penalties. First time for the Giants to the 50-yard line.
- 1:29:13Hilliard in motion. The pitch wide, the bar, the reverse to Hilliard. The pitch back to Collins.
- 1:29:19Looking deep. Throws deep down the right. A jump ball to jump up forward. It is incomplete.
- 1:29:24And even if it were complete, it would have been out of bounds.
- 1:29:27Nicely done by Michael McCrary. Good discipline of the defense.
- 1:29:31They try to go double reverse and then throw it back to Collins.
- 1:29:35McCrary stayed as deep as the deepest. And because he was there, he forced Collins to throw the ball a little sooner than he had to.
- 1:29:44Giants are going left to right. Like they said, they came one way and then back the other way.
- 1:29:49Nicely done by McCrary. You know, they're trying to do anything.
- 1:29:52And Jim Fossil is trying to get anything done that can relieve some of the pressure down the field.
- 1:29:57And the secondary is not fighting into any of it.
- 1:29:59Second and 10 for the Giants at the 50-yard line. Seven-nothing Baltimore. Collins has to throw.
- 1:30:04Throws out to the right. It is tipped and intercepted. Off the deflection by Jamie Schauffer.
- 1:30:10It was Ray Lewis who deflected it and Schauffer comes up with the game's first turnover.
- 1:30:16And that is just well done. Now here's the secret to what's going on right now. Schauffer gets his pick.
- 1:30:21See, they don't have to commit anybody to the run game. They don't even need seven-boom.
- 1:30:26They can go ahead with six and handle what's happening up front.
- 1:30:29And that means you have more people in the secondary. And all it was, he's going to try to hit a slant to the inside.
- 1:30:35But Ray Lewis got his hand up, knocked the thing in the air, and then Schauffer came down with it.
- 1:30:40You know, but Matt, you talked about Kerry Gonson. He's got to slow himself down.
- 1:30:44If he just hangs on for a touch, he has his tight end Dan Campbell wide open in between.
- 1:30:51Right in between the middle of the field and he doesn't do it. All together now.
- 1:30:55All together now, Simon Gonson.
- 1:30:58And that's the start. DeLuther trying to set up the screen. It's picked off as a flat down. But going for a touchdown is Jesse Armstead.
- 1:31:05If it stands up. Hold on, it's going to happen. They tackled the receiver, Jamal Lewis.
- 1:31:11In the backfield. And it was Michael Barrow who tackled him.
- 1:31:14And I'm not so sure that's not going to come back for interference on the receiver.
- 1:31:19Looking at Strahan's reaction and reading his body language, this one's going to come back.
- 1:31:24The Giants had a touchdown and now they're going to have to give it back.
- 1:31:28The microphone of Jerry Austin is not working.
- 1:31:32Oh, now we get it.
- 1:31:34DeLuther, Jamal Lewis.
- 1:31:36You know, the thing here guys is, it's a play that they very, it's infrequently called.
- 1:31:42And this is the defense's best way to screw up the screen is to grab the running back.
- 1:31:46They're always on the throw to the ground.
- 1:31:49The thing that really is just unbelievably bad is that Trent Ilford just arbitrarily just throws the ball out there like for no reason.
- 1:32:00And if you're Brian Billig, I think you just turn around and hand it to Jamal Lewis the rest of the game until you have to throw it now.
- 1:32:05You detect a little frustration on number seven's mart over here?
- 1:32:08No. There's a handoff. Delores trying to run left.
- 1:32:12Breaks a tackle inside the 40 and drives over Garns for a first down.
- 1:32:18Well, Boomi, he must have been listening to you. He said, forget it. This stiff can't do anything. Hand it off to the other guy.
- 1:32:25You know, Matt, I mean, watching this up here, I mean, it's just amazing to watch how guys are wide open, wide open and he's not hitting them.
- 1:32:34And then when he does finally hit somebody, he hits a guy in the blue right in the chest.
- 1:32:38But it was well thrown and he did run a good route.
- 1:32:41Jesse Armstead, look, perfect route.
- 1:32:43Yes. Nine minutes to go in the first half. Seven nothing Baltimore. They're trying to add more to it.
- 1:32:48That was the longest run of the game. Eleven yards.
- 1:32:52Johnson in motion. A handoff to Lewis running left and he gets dropped in his tracks after a gain of a yard by Keith Hamilton.
- 1:32:59You know what goes into a game plan like this?
- 1:33:01A coach is on the sideline and he's watching his quarterback and he's watching how he's playing, how he's executing just the simple plays.
- 1:33:08And neither one of these quarterbacks is executing those plays on a consistent basis today.
- 1:33:13Much like Kerry Collins did two weeks ago against the Vikings, Sean Payton saw that he was on.
- 1:33:17So he kept giving them opportunities.
- 1:33:19I think Brian Doak is really going to hold the tent here and be extremely conservative on offense.
- 1:33:24Second and ten. They call it no gain on the play. Four made, giant front.
- 1:33:29Guilford back to thrall. Sprints out of the pocket and runs into his own man and gets dropped for a loss by Strahan at the forty two and Cornelius Griffith.
- 1:33:38My God, he's. Two coverage also down the field. And former looking at one guy, Matt. Right now, I think.
- 1:33:43There's two guys. There's three guys out there. If you'd asked Brian Billich about his quarterback's execution, I think he'd be all for it.
- 1:33:49Look, is that exactly right? But you're in the right town to say that to me.
- 1:33:53That's exactly why I said it. I mean, it's painful because quarterbacks have to go through their progression.
- 1:33:59You can't just sit there and look at one guy. If he's not open, go to number two. If number two is not open, go to number three.
- 1:34:04It's not that hard. Third down with 19, however, third and 13 for Baltimore.
- 1:34:09Three holes in the game and running back is Guilford with a deep drop. Throws as he's hit and the ball is dropped by Shannon Sharp, who started a run before he caught it.
- 1:34:19And so the Giants dodge a little bit of a bullet and the punting unit will come on as Hamilton had pressure on Guilford.
- 1:34:26Nice job by the Giants defense in the zone. But more importantly, they're getting pressure on Guilford with only four people.
- 1:34:32And that's important. And if you look real close, you can see that Shannon Sharp was talking to the ball and it was coming to him.
- 1:34:38There's some trash talking going on. Yes, he probably did.
- 1:34:40Well, the ball could have fit in his mouth by the way. He's been talking all week.
- 1:34:43Well, I shouldn't be frustrated because I talked about this all week that each one of these quarterbacks are going to have failures during the game.
- 1:34:50It's just that I couldn't believe that they're having the type of failures that they're having.
- 1:34:53Regents hit the punt to T.P. Barber and sends this one airborne. Barber at the 15.
- 1:34:58Baer catches it there. A 26 yard punt, but there is a flag down. It's against the Giants.
- 1:35:13Well, we have a 7-0 Baltimore lead.
- 1:35:16Number 25, get in the kick.
- 1:35:18Happy to miss the goal. First down.
- 1:35:21The penalty is on the Giants. And so instead of the 15 yard line, it'll be about the seven and a half.
- 1:35:30It's Ramos McDonald that's called for the flag.
- 1:35:347-0 Baltimore with 8.24 to go first half.
- 1:35:37You're listening to exclusive coverage of Super Bowl 35 on Westwood Ward.

- 1:37:25A reminder that for every touchdown scored inside the red zone tonight,
- 1:37:28Dodge will donate $500 to the March of Dimes Foundation.
- 1:37:31Think Dodge different. My suggestion is that we ought to have for every five yards move tonight.
- 1:37:36How about every punt? How about $500 a punt? 12 punts? I bet you Dodge would do that.
- 1:37:44Giants start again deep in their own territory at the 8th.
- 1:37:48They might not be able to afford that though.
- 1:37:50And Collins, the throw on first down, throws out to the right and makes the connection to about the 14 yard line
- 1:37:56to Amani Tumer who against Minnesota had six receptions for 88 yards and one touchdown.
- 1:38:03Ian Hilliard just tore up the Minnesota secondary, but this is a far different football team they are playing today.
- 1:38:08Alright, this looks good. This is a nice easy out pattern.
- 1:38:11It's a throw that you throw about 100 times in practice every day to get back to the basics.
- 1:38:16They caught Baltimore blitzing, they max protect, Collins steps back, delivers it on time,
- 1:38:21and a nicely thrown ball with a nicely executed route.
- 1:38:25Into the foul five. Collins under center, takes the snap, looks to the left, down to the middle,
- 1:38:31throws over the middle and the catch is made by Amani Tumer across the 30 yard line.
- 1:38:36Wayne Starks makes the tackle. That's a great job by Tumer.
- 1:38:40The ball thrown a little bit behind and enough for a giant first down, 19 yards of the play.
- 1:38:46Had him in his zone and they knew they had his zone. They motioned out to the left side.
- 1:38:49Linebacker walks so you knew you were going to be okay to that side.
- 1:38:53So it's just a matter of protection and they're doing a good job because Sam Adams is really getting a good push inside on this line.
- 1:39:00Another nice throw by Kerry Collins though. Both on first down, let's see if they continue it.
- 1:39:05Joe Montgomery in the game is running back, he gets the call, trying to run straight ahead and gets spilled that for virtually no game by Bullwair and Lewis.
- 1:39:13I guess you feel like you have to try to run it. Maybe a miracle will happen and nobody will be there when he gets to the line of scrimmage, but that's not going to be the case.
- 1:39:22Matt? Yes. There's a dripping sarcasm here. No, not from our crew. No being facetious.
- 1:39:30John? No, right. Rob Burnett has got to see this and start throwing the football. Keep it going. He's got a little juice going right now.
- 1:39:36Slow himself down a little bit because Rob Burnett is playing very well as is Sam Adams on that left side.
- 1:39:42Seven minutes left on the half, seven nothing Baltimore. Giants second and ten at their own 32 yard line. Big push off the middle.
- 1:39:49Collins throws and connects to his tight end. Howard Cross, the only remaining giant from Super Bowl 25.
- 1:39:56I like going to your tight end. Once you start getting your tight end involved, start holding those backers and that safety.
- 1:40:01Now Howard Cross isn't going to beat you, but he can give you five yards like this and create this third short.
- 1:40:08Game of eight on the play. Third down is the quarterback's down and one of the reasons I don't like to run on first down is because you know what?
- 1:40:15You're not getting anywhere. It's almost like you're giving a down back to the defense. Three wides for the Giants now.
- 1:40:23Collins sends Tumor in motion to the right. Ravens showing blitz.
- 1:40:29We may get some contact. There's contact up the middle from Sam Adams. If it's against the Ravens, it's a first down for the Giants.
- 1:40:35All right, Matt, this is what I love. Kerry Collins using a long count, trying to get somebody off sides and I think it works this time.
- 1:40:41You should do that. Sam Adams getting too good of a jump in front.
- 1:40:44And Crocher, 95 defense, five yards. The Golden plays a first down.
- 1:40:49Let me ask you this, Boombl. Players talk about at this stage of the year, we're not going to change very much.
- 1:40:54Now what about the cadence? What about the count? That will never change. It's how you use the count and Kerry is very smart.
- 1:41:00Now I don't know if you got that from Sean Payton on the sideline saying, hey, use the count in this situation just to remind him.
- 1:41:05But third and two, you've got a very active defensive front. The quarterback knows that as part of his game plan coming into the game.
- 1:41:11And he executed it just right. First and 10, the Giants now at the roll 45. They're moving from left to right on your radio.
- 1:41:17What's on? Collins running away from the defense. We're going to throw it on the run and just throws it low to the outside where only the receiver could catch it.
- 1:41:26But it's incomplete looking for Hilliard and he was being pressured from the back by Peter Boulware. Peter Boulware lined up on the left out.
- 1:41:38And then forces Collins back out to the right side, puts him on the run only to force that in completion.
- 1:41:44Second and 10 now for the Giants at the roll 45. 541 left first half. Seven nothing Baltimore.
- 1:41:50And an empty backfield on second down. I like it, Howard. Four man front for Baltimore. Collins, a blitz on, throws and connects.
- 1:41:57After a first down for the Giants in Baltimore territory, Rod Woodson with a tackle on Ike Hilliard. And the Giants for the first time today are in Baltimore territory.
- 1:42:08All right. This is a giant offense that we saw executing against the Minnesota Vikings two weeks ago. Second down, spread him out.
- 1:42:14Five wide. Put Sherry Collins back in the shotgun so the blitz can't get to him. And he sees it. It's right in his face.
- 1:42:21He knows he's going to get hit as he releases the football. Another nicely thrown ball and a nice catch by Ike Hilliard. Tough catch over the middle.
- 1:42:28They'll spread him out like you said to him and they brought the blitz inside. But he's back in that shotgun and can see it.
- 1:42:33The double loop tight end and Moshe Collins back to throw again. Rose and Sean, it's deflected, incomplete and nearly intercepted by Ray Lewis.
- 1:42:41It was deflected at the line of scrimmage by Larry Webster. Webster got his hand on it. But here's what's happening right now.
- 1:42:47The Giants have them a little bit on their heels and they have to take advantage of it. Keep it going. Keep throwing the football.
- 1:42:54That time just trying to throw a little hits pattern to Tiki Barber. He hits Webster right in the middle of the helmet.
- 1:43:00Webster's a big man, but you got to be able to see that. Rose, how could he miss it?
- 1:43:05Look at the size of his head. He did go to Maryland. See the size of that man's head.
- 1:43:10Second down and 10 for the Giants. Half a 44 of Baltimore. Collins back to throw. Flushed out of the pocket and sacked by Keith Washington.
- 1:43:21Second sack of Collins and the Baltimore defense known for their pressure on the quarterback. Get to Collins this time.
- 1:43:28He beat him too. Washington did a good job. First he was going to try to quick right there, but it was nothing going.
- 1:43:33He had to pull it back down and Lomas Brown got overpowered by Washington.
- 1:43:38This is kind of tough on the tackle because as he tries to roll back out to the left side, Washington just can draw from H to play.
- 1:43:46The Giants now with three wide outs. Jarrah Vicious in wide to the right. Mitchell the tight end and the slack to the right.
- 1:43:53It's third and 20 for the Giants. At their own 46. Four man Baltimore front. They draw to Barber running right 45 and hit.
- 1:44:03At the Baltimore 42 yard line, a game of about 12 yards, but an eight yard shy of a first down.
- 1:44:09There's nothing wrong with that. Third and 20. Maybe you pop a draw. They did. They got 15 yards on the play, so not a bad play at all.
- 1:44:17Now you give. Now it's up to Maynard to put him inside the 10 yard line. Forget about the 20 inside the 10.
- 1:44:23And then the Giants defense has got to come on the field and use its timeouts and stuff them.
- 1:44:28You have four and a half minutes right here, but that was a positive right there. First positive offensively we've seen all night.
- 1:44:34Ravens leads seven nothing. Brad Maynard's upon a good snap from center.
- 1:44:39It kicks it to the right and hangs and is caught by Jermaine Lewis at about the 12 yard line.
- 1:44:47So it's seven nothing Baltimore after a 30 yard kick. We have four or nine to go until halftime.
- 1:44:52You're listening to exclusive coverage of Super Bowl 35 from Westwood Walk.
- 1:44:59Hi, welcome to Yahoo Auction School. A lot of people still haven't tried online auctions.
- 1:45:04So today we brought in Stella Investor to demonstrate how easy it is. Welcome ladies.

- 1:45:32She unplugged my computer. Esther, you can't do that. Hey, I win.
- 1:45:36But I was going to bid again. Stella, don't worry. You still have two more days to bid.
- 1:45:40Ow. Get her off me. Get off her, Esther. You can't hold her down for two days.
- 1:45:46You. Well, I want to thank Stella and Esther for coming and good luck on Yahoo Auctions.
- 1:45:52Ladies. Do you Yahoo? Yahoo.

- 1:46:31Well, the guy that has the record for most touchdown passes in the Super Bowl is Steve Young, who did it in ninety five against San Diego.
- 1:46:37I think that record saved James. What do you think?
- 1:46:39Yeah, I don't think anybody will throw six touchdown passes. I don't think both teams are combined for that.
- 1:46:43Steve Young, is it the lack of quarterback play or is it the great defenses in this ballgame?
- 1:46:49I think it's probably a little bit of both. I mean, both teams are kind of playing to their personality.
- 1:46:53We probably won't have a perfect 50 percent passer in the Super Bowl, and I don't think that's going to shock anybody.
- 1:46:58Although the Giants are shocked with how much they're throwing the football. The big play, and Boomer will know this, holding on a screen call.
- 1:47:04You never get that call. That should have been seven the other way.
- 1:47:07And what would you do if you were Trent Dillford being the next buck in your quarterback?
- 1:47:10I'd just play it tight to the vest with this defense. I don't know how much more he needs to do.
- 1:47:14Dillford throws out to the left and the catch is made by Brandon Stokely. It's a 19 yard line. Let's go back to James.
- 1:47:20Steve Young predicted it exactly right. He played it tight to the vest and that little pass out in the flat.
- 1:47:26Steve Young, any favorite in this ballgame for you?
- 1:47:29Well, I think if Kerry can get through the jitters and there's almost interceptions and one, he's throwing the ball plenty.
- 1:47:34I like the dynamic offense the Giants are trying to throw up. A couple big plays could make this game go either way.
- 1:47:39Now, thanks for your time. It looked like you had fun with that Caesar salad.
- 1:47:42Where is he? Is he in a restaurant?
- 1:47:45No wonder Millen likes him.
- 1:47:48Second down and four, the handoff to Lewis straight ahead, hung down at the 20 yard line by Ryan Phillips.
- 1:47:55The Ravens will be faced with a third down and about two with 323 and counting left in the first half.
- 1:48:01Baltimore has a 7-0 lead.
- 1:48:03Steve Young is exactly right. We talked about it. You never get that holding call on a screen.
- 1:48:08In the Super Bowl, they called it and they kept it from being a touchdown. It was the correct call.
- 1:48:13During the season, you never get that call.
- 1:48:15This is a big down right here for the New York Giants defense and it's third and about two.
- 1:48:19Big down for Trent Dillford right here.
- 1:48:22Four-man giant front, shark in motion to the right. Dillford back to pass, has time.
- 1:48:28Here's it out, down on the left side and the catch is made.
- 1:48:31Andre Esmael first down at the giant 36 yard line as he beats Dave Thomas for 44 yards.
- 1:48:40You know the interesting thing, Matt, Dave Thomas lined up one on one with Esmael down on the left side.
- 1:48:46It's a mismatch because Esmael can run right past him.
- 1:48:48But third and two, you're not thinking that your quarterback is going to take this kind of risk, this deep in your own zone.
- 1:48:54He had Shannon Sharp for a first down, five yards. He caught a break by doing this.
- 1:48:58He also brought some pressure. He brought a blitz to the inside. That surprised me.
- 1:49:01Nice throw. It was a great throw.
- 1:49:04The best throw he's had all night.
- 1:49:05That's our net two phone long distance play of the game brought to you by net two phone, changing the way you communicate.
- 1:49:11First and ten, Baltimore at the giant 36 yard line.
- 1:49:14Dilfer on the draw, Lewis trying to run left and cut down at the 35 yard line by Michael Barrow.
- 1:49:20That will take us to the two minute warning.
- 1:49:23Baltimore leading 7-0.

- 1:50:52you look fantastic, what's your secret? You'd say, oh, discount a sign of airfare.
- 1:50:58Maybe on dice and save.

- 1:51:04The whole idea behind redesigning the all new Dodge Caravan was to build a vehicle that is, given all sorts of choices,
- 1:51:10the one you choose for a long trip with a bunch of friends.
- 1:51:14And a big part of that was to make it so quiet that hours pass without fatigue,
- 1:51:18so quiet that conversations get carried on without strain.
- 1:51:22In other words, as quiet as a mouse in sneakers with laryngitis.
- 1:51:29Dodge Caravan.
- 1:51:31Different.
- 1:51:34A reminder to stay tuned for the Novell Halftime Report with Tommy Tog.
- 1:51:37His guest will be the first man to wear number 33 in a Georgetown basketball uniform.
- 1:51:42And Kansas City coach Dick Vermeer, a Bronxie by Novell, the power to change.
- 1:51:46Do you know who the number 33 was at your event?
- 1:51:48BT, baby. Paul Tagliabue, the commissioner of the NFL.
- 1:51:52Who at one time was your all-time leading rebounder in Georgetown history.
- 1:51:56Second down, Guilford throws over the middle.
- 1:51:59And complete had Kadri Ismael open at the 15-yard line.
- 1:52:02Ismael, all week long, has been saying, my name is Kadri.
- 1:52:06There's no U after the Q with my name.
- 1:52:08Did I say it? No, I didn't say it.
- 1:52:10Oh, you're talking about Quadri? Quadri, right.
- 1:52:13He's in a Quadri over missing that Quadri pass.
- 1:52:15Because he had him on his wide open on the inside against the zone, and he had time.
- 1:52:19And again, the ball just kind of took off.
- 1:52:22And Guilford's not throwing the ball well at all tonight.
- 1:52:24Well, except for two balls. Except for two.
- 1:52:26One for a touchdown and one for a nice little gain on third and two of all times.
- 1:52:30Big down here for the Giants on third and ten.
- 1:52:33Guilford, 6 of 16 for 102 yards.
- 1:52:36Last time they came at the Blitz, Guilford back.
- 1:52:38They pick it up, they swing it out of the backfield to Jermaine Lewis,
- 1:52:42who gets to about the 30 and gets out of bounds with a minute and 48 remaining in the half.
- 1:52:477-0 Baltimore. Let's go down to John Dockery.
- 1:52:49Dockery, you know, Howard, one thing fairly obvious is a fight breaking out in the sidelines along here.
- 1:52:53Right now, the Giants are all just right in front of him.
- 1:52:57Go get a piece of that, Doc.
- 1:52:58Hey, I'll get a piece of that.
- 1:52:59Get in there, Doc. Get in there.
- 1:53:01Look at this, it's still going up.
- 1:53:03Get in there, Doc. Get in there.
- 1:53:05Hit him first, Doc.
- 1:53:07Hit and swing. Tell them who you are, Doc.
- 1:53:09I'll tell them I'm Matt Millen. Come on, I'm chopping him down.
- 1:53:11In the middle of the rush.
- 1:53:14That's right Johnny on the spot right there.
- 1:53:16Yeah, cooler head. They prevail, boy. What a, ooh.
- 1:53:19Got a little nasty there for a minute.
- 1:53:20The temperament of the Harvard guy prevails.
- 1:53:23The physicality of this guy. How smart.
- 1:53:25I knew he was going to come out of the work better than the soothing.
- 1:53:28Yelp to that guy in the striped shirt that he's an over-efficient jerk.
- 1:53:33I'll tell him you said that, man. He's really going to be happy with you.
- 1:53:36Speaking of which, Marv Levy, one of the seven inducted into the Hall of Fame.
- 1:53:40And the Ravens now going to try a field goal for Matt Stover of 47 yards.
- 1:53:45Angle right.
- 1:53:46They try to give the Ravens a ten-point lead, placement down.
- 1:53:50The kick is away. It is long enough and it is good.
- 1:53:54Well, the Ravens come away with a ten-nothing lead with still 141 remaining.
- 1:53:58And now we go back to what you were saying early on.
- 1:54:01The first team to ten.
- 1:54:04Would that be too different?
- 1:54:05Was it too much now for the Giants to overcome?
- 1:54:08Still a little bit too early.
- 1:54:10I will say this. There's been two plays on offense all night long.
- 1:54:14Both of them belong to Dilfer. Both turned into points.
- 1:54:18Again, we go back to the officiating man in our crew right now, John Dockery.
- 1:54:23I had intended to make a point before you guys so rudely interrupted and that fight broke out down here.
- 1:54:29I was going to say it's becoming fairly obvious.
- 1:54:31Giants cornerbacks and secondaries having trouble with the outside speed of the Ravens.
- 1:54:35You know, I've been watching Jason Seelon and he seems flat most of the game.
- 1:54:39Yeah, he was beaten early by Stokely, but now he looks somewhat tentative.
- 1:54:43Having a good big cushion and having problems.
- 1:54:45I just don't know what's the matter with him.
- 1:54:47And hey, you guys know that as a cornerback, you better have a tall ego and a short memory.
- 1:54:52Seelon and Thomas have to forget what happened to them so far and get back in this game.
- 1:54:56Well, Jason Seelon has been beaten three times.
- 1:55:01Stover to kick it off, either Dixon or Washington for the Giants.
- 1:55:05Ten-nothing ball over and a very short kickoff.
- 1:55:08Dixon lets it hit. There's mistake number five.
- 1:55:10He picks it up on a roll at the 12. Looking to run right.
- 1:55:13And it gets hit and oh, it's going to be a face mask against Baltimore.
- 1:55:17And it's going to go against Brad Jackson.
- 1:55:19But a mistake by Ron Dixon and he won't pay for it because there is the face mask on Baltimore.
- 1:55:25That'll be a 15 yarder too, so instead of being on the 12, it'll be on the 27.
- 1:55:29Well, now Collins who's 7 of 19.
- 1:55:32Face mask. 50 of the kicking team. 15 yards. First foul.
- 1:55:37Kerry Collins, 7 of 19 for 59 yards.
- 1:55:40A Falk-Bride from a five touchdown performance against Minnesota two weeks ago.
- 1:55:44Well, we knew he was going to be facing a much better defense in the face of the Ravens.
- 1:55:48I thought the last series, however, he started really to pick it up.
- 1:55:51He looked good. He was throwing the ball crisply.
- 1:55:53I would think now what you have to think if you're an offensive player for the Giants,
- 1:55:57especially if you are Kerry Collins, let's get a little something on the board here.
- 1:56:01Just get three points here, get it back and take that into the locker room with you.
- 1:56:06The biggest thing he can't do is turn it over down here.
- 1:56:09Be very careful.
- 1:56:101.34 to go on the half. 10-0 Baltimore.
- 1:56:12Dixon in the game is a third wide out.
- 1:56:14Collins backs the throw, throws it on time to Rod Dixon.
- 1:56:18First down across the 40 for the 44 yard line.
- 1:56:22Their all-toward three timeouts are left for the Giants as they pick up 16.
- 1:56:26Now the Ravens are just sitting back in a zone defense,
- 1:56:30and if they don't get any pressure on Kerry, he'll be able to sit back there and pick them apart.
- 1:56:35Blitz on, they go inside on the handoff.
- 1:56:38It is Tiki Barber to the 50 to the 45 inside the 40.
- 1:56:41Breaks the tackle and take it out of bounds inside the Baltimore.
- 1:56:4529 yard line by Rod Woodson.
- 1:56:48And this tackle by Corey Harris at a 28 yard run.
- 1:56:51Boy, they were going to come with a blitz to the outside.
- 1:56:53They caught him in it. They caught him in that, just that delay back up inside,
- 1:56:58almost like a little bit of a, kind of a, almost a draw kind of thing.
- 1:57:03But Barber caught the scene perfectly.
- 1:57:05They took advantage of Sam Adams up the field,
- 1:57:07and then he was also able to stop the clock as he got out of bounds on the 29 yard line.
- 1:57:11Looks like Ron Stone got, got to Ray Lewis and cut him down right in the middle of the field.
- 1:57:15Longest run against Baltimore.
- 1:57:17Collins pumps, throws down the middle, that is.
- 1:57:20Intercepted at the goal line by Chris McAllister.
- 1:57:24Oh, rushed himself, boom.
- 1:57:27He rushed himself right out of an opportunity, and that is just a killer.
- 1:57:32Just a killer. He had time.
- 1:57:35He had a, he could have been able to see the field instead.
- 1:57:38He just threw it up.
- 1:57:40You know what, Matt, he had plenty of time.
- 1:57:42He didn't have to throw it down on the field.
- 1:57:44This was a bad choice to throw it down there.
- 1:57:47Two defenders right there with I. Gillyard.
- 1:57:51He has Tiki Barber right about five yards deep over the ball.
- 1:57:54Just drop it to him.
- 1:57:56Yeah, he had him. He was going to take a shot.
- 1:57:58Kim Herring, the free safety, was reading the whole thing.
- 1:58:00McAllister ran with him perfectly, and that was just, that was one stupid throw.
- 1:58:05It was a bad throw by Kerry Collins. There's no question about that.
- 1:58:08I mean, Tiki Barber is right in front of him, five yards deep.
- 1:58:12Don't get, don't be a pig down here.
- 1:58:14Just take what they give you, and Kerry didn't do that.
- 1:58:18So, Dilfer from his old four-yard line hands it off to Lewis, and gets around the corner.
- 1:58:23Flag is out.
- 1:58:25Lewis at the corner, and Jason Sehorn wrestles him down, but there was a flag.
- 1:58:29Back at the line of scrimmage.
- 1:58:31I think it's going to be against the Giants.
- 1:58:33You remember Chris McAllister, last game of the regular season, just before halftime.
- 1:58:37Then he tested Verney, and McAllister right on the numbers, and he ran 98 yards for a touchdown.
- 1:58:42First foul.
- 1:58:44Well, they had him take a pinch, and the Giants are defending left to right.
- 1:58:50The right defensive end, Cedric Jones, bounced to the inside.
- 1:58:53Sam Garns got pinned, and there was nobody on the edge.
- 1:58:56Jamal Lewis bounced it to the outside and picked up a first.
- 1:58:59That's 20 yards on the run.
- 1:59:0247 seconds to go to halftime.
- 1:59:04Ten-nothing Baltimore.
- 1:59:06Go play action here.
- 1:59:08Dilfer hands it off instead to Lewis into the heart of the line for very little.
- 1:59:12If it's the inside word you need, SportsLine's award-winning NFL writers will have it.
- 1:59:16Get the inside scoop with exclusive columns and inside located only at cbs.sportsline.com.
- 1:59:22Of course, you remember, Ravens led the league at 49 takeaways this year.
- 1:59:25You know what's really interesting here is that Brian Billich is more than happy with the lead that he has.
- 1:59:31More often than not, your quarterback, you're going to put him in a position to be able to run a two-minute drill.
- 1:59:35They have plenty of time to be able to run something from this point, and they're going to be content with letting the time run out.
- 1:59:42This half is over, boys, and they come in with a ten-point lead with that defense.
- 1:59:45They like their chances.
- 1:59:47Now, keep in mind, in both Super Bowl wins that the Giants have had, they've been behind at halftime both times.
- 1:59:53But this tells you what the coach thinks of the quarterback.
- 1:59:58Last year, Tennessee was shut out in the first half and trailed 9-0.
- 2:00:04Right now, Baltimore has a 10-0 lead, a 38-yard touchdown to Brandon Stokely from Trent Dilford, and a field goal by Max Stover.
- 2:00:16Ten teams have been shut out in the first half in Super Bowl history.
- 2:00:20Most recently, the Titans I mentioned last year, none have come back to win.
- 2:00:25It's 10-0, Baltimore, as we throw it back to Tommy Tye.
- 2:00:28Tommy?
- 2:00:29Okay, Howard, when we return, the NFL commissioner, Paul Tagliabue, in mere moments, you're listening to exclusive coverage of Super Bowl 35 on Westwood 1.
- 2:00:41Let's go right down to Boomer, Matt and Howard.
- 2:00:44Fellas, take it away.
- 2:00:46How are you?
- 2:00:47How are you doing there, Tommy?
- 2:00:48Okay, everything all right up there?
- 2:00:49Everything's just perfect.
- 2:00:50Got your coffee, everything you need?
- 2:00:51Haven't got that yet.
- 2:00:52I'll be getting in five minutes, though.
- 2:00:53Matt, can you go to Matt?
- 2:00:55He spends a lot of time over there, so you can bring something back for us, Matt?
- 2:00:58Sure, no problem.
- 2:00:59Okay.
- 2:01:00The Heat's your start of the second half, sponsored by Heat Gasline Antifreeze.
- 2:01:03Cold engines start with Heat.
- 2:01:04Well, the Giants, basically, I mean, they're 14-4 right now.
- 2:01:08They've won seven straight.
- 2:01:09They've outscored their opponents before today, 176-72 during the stretch, including 61-10 against Pittsburgh or against Philadelphia.
- 2:01:18And Minnesota, now they're on the short end.
- 2:01:21It's not panic time yet, but their offense has got to produce, and they've got to produce soon.
- 2:01:26Well, they certainly do have to produce.
- 2:01:27You know, Matt and I were talking.
- 2:01:28A lot of people around the press box are talking about how great these defenses are.
- 2:01:33I think it's been a struggle for the quarterbacks, because there have been guys that have been open.
- 2:01:38It's not as if these guys have had somebody hanging around their neck the whole time.
- 2:01:41I agree.
- 2:01:42There's no question that speed, especially of the Baltimore Ravens defense, can make you look bad at times.
- 2:01:47No question about that.
- 2:01:48But, you know, it was Terry's decision to throw the ball deep down the middle at the end of the first half.
- 2:01:52That basically made the problem happen.
- 2:01:54It wasn't because he was under pressure.
- 2:01:56I completely agree.
- 2:01:57It's a decision by a quarterback that has to be made, and it's simple.
- 2:02:00And we have talked about, you know, in every defense, in every scheme, there are going to be holes.
- 2:02:03You just need a little bit of time.
- 2:02:04And when you do have the time, you know, there are ways to create time, which Sean Payton has done.
- 2:02:08He's rolled him out, but he's not slowed himself down.
- 2:02:12Terry Piles, and then on the other side, Trent Guilford, he's made two nice throws. Other than that, he's looked pretty average.
- 2:02:18He has, and I think now it's going to be up to the Giants defense to create a turnover some here in the second half to get that momentum back for the Giants.
- 2:02:25Pickoff to Lewis, and this one might go out of bounds.
- 2:02:27And Lewis made a mistake, I think. He fielded it at the 5.
- 2:02:30He's up to the 20, and now across the 30.
- 2:02:32So apparently he didn't make a mistake.
- 2:02:34He's still on his feet and finally tripped up at the 45.
- 2:02:37But there's a flag all the way back to the 30-yard line.
- 2:02:40I think if Lewis lets that ball bounce, it goes out of bounds.
- 2:02:43That's the way it was turning over from right to left, but he couldn't take that chance.
- 2:02:47He took off. It's going to come back.
- 2:02:49Well, that's a tough decision because if you wait...
- 2:02:5281 on the receiving team during the runback. 10 yards, first down.
- 2:02:57The penalty is again against Ben Coates.
- 2:03:00You know, if you wait and it doesn't bounce the right way, then you got problems.
- 2:03:04So you just have to take... see the rules from those. You never let the ball hit the ground in the kicker game, ever.
- 2:03:08Yeah, but that ball, you had no choice. It was a tough one. He had to.
- 2:03:11It looked like he slipped when he... Now remember, where he kicked off from,
- 2:03:14this is where stages were for Aerosmith and Britney Spears and Instinct and Mary J. Byers.
- 2:03:19Whoever else was out there. Who?
- 2:03:22You don't know who she is? You are. You, you, you need help.
- 2:03:26Ravens with the ball, first and 10 at their own 22-yard line.
- 2:03:31There's a flag of a play, and Jabal Lewis is taken down at the 24-yard line.
- 2:03:36Keith Hamilton looks like he jumped offside, so...
- 2:03:40The time of possession brought to you by Bullivin,
- 2:03:42makers of five timepieces for 125 years. It is against the Giants.
- 2:03:46The Ravens have had the ball for 14 minutes, 13 seconds.
- 2:03:49The Giants are 15 minutes, 47 seconds. Not a major stat at this point.
- 2:03:54Talked about Keith Hamilton. I mean, his career was going south.
- 2:03:57He was caught with possession by a New Jersey State Trooper,
- 2:04:00and Jim Fossil went and bailed him out, and he said,
- 2:04:02You've got two choices. You can either continue to go along this road,
- 2:04:06or you can stop right now before you cost yourself the rest of your life.
- 2:04:10And Fossil has had an impact on Keith Hamilton turning his life around.
- 2:04:16First and five, Baltimore, at their own 27-yard line.
- 2:04:21Guilford with a quick drop. Throws the ball in the terrific catch,
- 2:04:24which is made by Brandon Stokely for a first down.
- 2:04:28That nice catch is a little slant pattern, and what is really alarming about this,
- 2:04:33if you're a Giants fan, is that Jason Sehorn was off about 10 yards, Matt,
- 2:04:38which is no man's land for a defensive back.
- 2:04:41But there's a reason why you do that. They came with a blitz to the outside.
- 2:04:45You know you're going to have pressure. You take some time, you sit back,
- 2:04:48so you can drive that ball. They made the slant to the inside.
- 2:04:52He really had no chance.
- 2:04:53But my point was, is he's not even driving the ball.
- 2:04:56And the Delfler is wide open.
- 2:04:58First and ten, Baltimore, at their own 35, they lead 10-0,
- 2:05:02just as the third quarter, Jamal Lewis into the heart of the Giants line.
- 2:05:07And the blue shirts surround him at the 37-yard line.
- 2:05:12He's just tuned in. The Ravens scored the game's only touchdown,
- 2:05:15a Brandon Stokely touchdown reception from Trent Delfler of 38 yards.
- 2:05:20And then Matt Stover delivered a field goal of 47 yards,
- 2:05:23and that's the only scoring in the game.
- 2:05:26Well, we said the first series of this third quarter,
- 2:05:29both teams offensively will let you know exactly where they're at.
- 2:05:36Second down and eight, Baltimore, moving from right to left on your radio.
- 2:05:40A five-man Giants front, Delfler back to throw,
- 2:05:43swings it out of the backfield to Jamal Lewis,
- 2:05:45and he has hit hard at the 42-yard line by the Giants' Mike Barrow.
- 2:05:50It is about three yards shy of a first down. Cornelius Grissom also went on the play.
- 2:05:54I like this kid Jamal Lewis. I like his hands out of the backfield.
- 2:05:58When he doesn't dance at the line of scrimmage, he's a lot more effective.
- 2:06:01He's a big, thick chin.
- 2:06:04I think he's going to be pretty good.
- 2:06:06He continues to improve the way he has in this season.
- 2:06:08Heck, he has 1,300 yards to steal.
- 2:06:10Doesn't look like much from Trent Delfler,
- 2:06:12but he was having problems with that throw earlier in the game.
- 2:06:14That time he delivered it decisively and threw a nice ball.
- 2:06:17Emanuel McDaniel of the Giants' secondary on third down at about four.
- 2:06:22Delfler takes the snap, drops straight back to throw,
- 2:06:25sets up, gets hit, and sacked.
- 2:06:27Back at the 33 by Michael Strahan, his second sack of Trent Delfler.
- 2:06:33I'll tell you one thing, he's playing on the Giants' defense,
- 2:06:36and that is Michael Strahan. He has been in the backfield the whole night, Matt.
- 2:06:39Yes, he did. That was an excellent job just coming off that left side again.
- 2:06:42He's working against Harry Swain. He's able to beat him,
- 2:06:46and the reason he's able to get there also was because there was good coverage down the field.
- 2:06:50They were going to try to throw a 15-yard route at Luke Lyche,
- 2:06:52had a hold on to it, and it looks like Delfler's hurt.
- 2:06:56He's had his problems with injuries. You all know about that.
- 2:06:59Here's a snap to the putter, Richardson, and he delivers a beauty.
- 2:07:03Tiki Barber backpedals and feels it at the 17-yard line.
- 2:07:08Tries to turn the corner on the right side, gets to the 20, gets a crushing block,
- 2:07:12but because he ran out of room, it didn't help an awful lot.
- 2:07:16By the set of message, however, Brandon Short just got Brad Jackson.
- 2:07:20You know, the interesting thing, when you go from one side of the field to the other,
- 2:07:23you've got to keep your head on a swivel if you're a defensive player,
- 2:07:25and that time, my goodness, you got laid out.
- 2:07:2851-yard part of 5-yard return. It's 10-0 Baltimore.
- 2:07:31This is Westwood 1's coverage. It's Super Bowl 35.

- 2:08:50With Matt Millen, Blumara Sison, John Dockery, and James Lofton, I'm Howard David.
- 2:08:54You're listening to Super Bowl 35 on CBS Radio Sports.
- 2:08:58And Westwood One, the Giants on offense, Jim Fossil, who started in the NFL as an assistant to the Giants
- 2:09:04back in 91 as a quarterback's coach, went to Denver as the offensive coordinator,
- 2:09:08and then the quarterback coach of the Raiders, and then was the offensive coordinator with the Arizona Cardinals,
- 2:09:13and had a left-handed quarterback named Blumara Sison that he helped rejuvenate to a 500-yard performance one day.
- 2:09:20Well, it'll be interesting to see here what he decides in the second half.
- 2:09:23We talked about the strategy problems that he's going to have,
- 2:09:27and he was going to hold the keys to this football game.
- 2:09:30I would think now after watching this first half, throw the football and give Terry Collins more opportunities.
- 2:09:36Four-man front for Baltimore, defensively.
- 2:09:39Collins hands it off to Barber trying to run straight ahead for about three,
- 2:09:43where he runs it to Sam Adams, who's on his way to his first Pro Ball.
- 2:09:47Let's go down to John Dockery.
- 2:09:48You know, Howard, I'm just walking off the field with number eight in his white uniform.
- 2:09:51Trent Dilfer is leaving the field. They're taking him into the locker room.
- 2:09:54Something to do with his left hand, his left arm. We will keep you posted.
- 2:09:59That would be a major turn of events, except the Giants don't put any points on the board.
- 2:10:05It may not mean very much.
- 2:10:07Well, now they're really turning it over to their defense.
- 2:10:13Second out, about seven for the Giants, with their own 23.
- 2:10:16Hillier didn't motion to the right.
- 2:10:19Collins playing fast to throw, steps up and takes off across the 25
- 2:10:24and slides down at about the 29-yard line.
- 2:10:28But Jamie Sharper touches him there. He's going to be about three yards shy of a first out.
- 2:10:32You know what I see here, Matt, is Terry's dropping back after a play action,
- 2:10:36trying to find one or two guys. He's unable to pick up his third receiver.
- 2:10:40This time Tiki Barber is in the flat. All he has to do is step up and just drop it off to him.
- 2:10:45He's eyeballing.
- 2:10:46He's got a horse-blinder, it looks like. He's just looking down the center of the field.
- 2:10:51Giants are 0-7 on third down plays.
- 2:10:54And at third and three, Ravens with a five-man front.
- 2:10:58Collins back to throw. They pick up the blitz he throws and connects to Hillier,
- 2:11:02who takes a whack at the 35 but holds onto the football.
- 2:11:06And it's a first down for the Giants, their first third down conversion of the ball game.
- 2:11:11Well, nicely done. And he's able to just find it.
- 2:11:14You know, the biggest thing, they were expecting a dash to the right side.
- 2:11:17The Giants are going left to right.
- 2:11:19He did stop a little bit, but Hillier got back down to the inside.
- 2:11:22He was able to find the first down before he got hit by Rod Woodson.
- 2:11:25Giants huddle up quickly, come out to the line of scrimmage, their own 35.
- 2:11:29I like that.
- 2:11:30Ten-nothing Baltimore.
- 2:11:32Pummel with a fullback in motion, Collins back to throw.
- 2:11:35Looking once, looking twice, and gets tackled back behind the line of scrimmage.
- 2:11:40The sack recorded by Michael McCrary, and that is a coverage sack recorded by the Ravens,
- 2:11:46their third of the ball game.
- 2:11:47That's exactly right, Howard. It was a coverage sack.
- 2:11:50Carey had no place to go. He was trying to scan his offense.
- 2:11:53I guess the only thing you could do here if you're a quarterback is throw it away.
- 2:11:57Realize that you don't want to take a sack.
- 2:12:00McCrary is one of these guys on defense who just never stops going.
- 2:12:04Tremendous motor. Always going.
- 2:12:06He was actually on the ground, Lomas Brown knocked him down,
- 2:12:09and he was kind of snake-crawled across the ground and got Collins around the ankle.
- 2:12:13McCrary with 28 sacks his last two years.
- 2:12:16Second and 18 Giants. Back at their own 27, Collins back to throw.
- 2:12:21Has time. Throws over the middle and it's intercepted by Ron Woodson.
- 2:12:26Or is that Tim Herring?
- 2:12:27Tim Herring.
- 2:12:28Tim Herring.
- 2:12:29Shot down the farce.
- 2:12:30With a heading.
- 2:12:31Well, again, Matt, you talked about it earlier.
- 2:12:34It is horse blinders and Carey is trying to force the situation here at second and 18.
- 2:12:39All he has to do is get a little bit back on second down.
- 2:12:42Again, Kiki Barber open in the flat, and he is trying to find Hilliard inside.
- 2:12:47And Herring reads the eyes of Carey Collins and jumps right in front of Hilliard.
- 2:12:51You're watching the whole time. Remember, I see his eyeball.
- 2:12:54Now you have a field day of this.
- 2:12:56This game has gotten too big for Carey Collins.
- 2:12:58And now we're going to find out about Tony Banks and see if he can handle the game
- 2:13:01because he's in to replace Trent O for now.
- 2:13:03Tony Banks is replaced by Dilfer on the 29th of October.
- 2:13:07I would take a shot with him right out of the box.
- 2:13:10Louis Lalone set back to receive it to the right.
- 2:13:13That's a giant 41-yard line following the third and intercept in the hand of Louis.
- 2:13:18Off the left side for about three or four where Ryan Phillips meets him here.
- 2:13:23Well, in the Giants, two previous Super Bowls.
- 2:13:26With the Hostedler as quarterback in one, Phil Simms in the other.
- 2:13:30No turnovers. And already Collins has thrown three intercepts.
- 2:13:34Trent Jopper is in the locker room now.
- 2:13:36He's having his left pinky x-rayed.
- 2:13:39And now it falls on the hands of Tony Banks.
- 2:13:42Don't screw it up.
- 2:13:43Remember, Tony Banks was replaced after an O for October.
- 2:13:46No touchdowns in five games.
- 2:13:48And yet the Ravens kept winning.
- 2:13:51And the MVP then was Max Stover, the field goal kicker.
- 2:13:55Second down and five.
- 2:13:56The hand of Louis is room up the middle and drives to about the 30-yard line for a first down for Baltimore.
- 2:14:02That was probably the best run of the day, Matt, by either team up inside, inside the guards.
- 2:14:08And this time, at least now it looks like, the offensive line of the Ravens have started to push that defensive line of the Giants off the football.
- 2:14:16Nicely done inside by Mulatala, the left guard.
- 2:14:19Just coming off the ball.
- 2:14:21That's what you have to do.
- 2:14:22That's right, that falls on the shoulders of Keith Hamilton and Chris DePina.
- 2:14:26They've got to pick their game up.
- 2:14:27Jeff Mitchell to center.
- 2:14:29Also on the end of that play, celebrating his 27th birthday tomorrow from nearby Hillsboro, Florida.
- 2:14:34Blitz is on.
- 2:14:35Louis slips out of a tackle that gets wet at about the 31-yard line by Mike Barrows, had a big game for the Giants.
- 2:14:42However, with seven and a half to play in the third quarter, the Ravens have a 10-0 lead.
- 2:14:47And so far they have scored 10 points off two Giants turnovers.
- 2:14:51Well, they came with a run, Blitz, inside.
- 2:14:53Michael Bauer and Jesse Armstead just blew up inside, anticipating that it was going to be a run.
- 2:14:59Jamal Lewis saw it, tried to bounce it to the outside, but there was nowhere to go.
- 2:15:03Nicely done on the right outside by Cedric Jones.
- 2:15:07So now, moving to something I'm talking about.
- 2:15:08You've got to take a shot here.
- 2:15:09You can't draw it up.
- 2:15:11You just can't keep running it, running it, running it.
- 2:15:13I understand, but I don't necessarily know how much.
- 2:15:16You're like in a 47-yard field goal already.
- 2:15:19I don't know how much my ability trusts Tony Banks.
- 2:15:21Well, I'll give you the answer.
- 2:15:22He doesn't, you know.
- 2:15:24Lewis has 63 yards rushing on 17.
- 2:15:27Thanks for the quick drop.
- 2:15:29Look, the throws and the ball is deflected at the line of scrimmage.
- 2:15:33I don't know who that was exactly, but I want to say it was Griffin.
- 2:15:36We had a shot.
- 2:15:37Stokely, they were going to run a tight end.
- 2:15:39He had a tight end wide receiver to the left side as they were going right to left.
- 2:15:42He took the tight end and he took them to the outside to draw the backer coverage.
- 2:15:45And then Stokely came on a slant behind.
- 2:15:47It looked like he got knocked down, like you said, by Hamilton.
- 2:15:51No, that was Hamilton that actually got his hand on it.
- 2:15:52I've been a guy that has thrown interceptions like this in a game like Terry Collins.
- 2:15:56What does it do to you as a defensive player on my team if I'm doing that?
- 2:16:00In this game, you've got to forget it.
- 2:16:02There's nothing really that matters.
- 2:16:04It's about changing possession.
- 2:16:05You have to make the big play.
- 2:16:07Third and 10 Baltimore.
- 2:16:08They lead 10-0.
- 2:16:11Banks on the handoff, straight ahead.
- 2:16:13Priest-Holmes inside the 25.
- 2:16:16It's not enough for a first down, but it is a shorter field goal try now for Matt Stover.
- 2:16:22And I think that's all Brian Billich, he knows it on the sideline.
- 2:16:25You can see, you know what?
- 2:16:26We're just going to kick the field goal.
- 2:16:27Our defense hasn't been, you know, beat all night long, so we're just going to stay with it.
- 2:16:31So it'll be a smart call.
- 2:16:34Yeah, 41-yard try right now.
- 2:16:36Stover was on his way to his first Pro Ball.
- 2:16:39That kicker's this year with 135 points.
- 2:16:43Richardson to put it down.
- 2:16:44Placement is down.
- 2:16:45The kicker's got plenty of distance.
- 2:16:47And he missed it.
- 2:16:48It is no good.
- 2:16:49It is no good.
- 2:16:50That's a break for the Giants right there.
- 2:16:52Now they get it.
- 2:16:53They take advantage of it.
- 2:16:54Well, they get it from the spot of the kick, not the line of scrimmage.
- 2:16:5831-yard line.
- 2:16:596-0, 3 to go.
- 2:17:01Third quarter, 10-0 Baltimore.
- 2:17:03This is Westwood Woods coverage of Superball 35.
- 2:17:06Listen up, this is your mouth talking.
- 2:17:08Lately, you've been giving me a lot of lip.
- 2:17:10You know, like cold sauce?
- 2:17:12Now I don't mean to complain, but mouths don't like cold sauce.

- 2:18:55Trent Dillfer has come running out of the locker room, and I expect that at some point, in short order,
- 2:19:01we'll hear from John Dockery and he'll tell us about Dillfer's condition. He went in.
- 2:19:04Let's go to John.
- 2:19:05I just followed him out of the locker room where everybody was under there.
- 2:19:08They took x-rays. They went into the locker room with him, checked it.
- 2:19:11He was asked how he was feeling. He was in pain. He said, was it broken?
- 2:19:15He said, I don't know. I'll tell you after the x-rays. Obviously, he's back out. We'll keep you posted.
- 2:19:19Collins back to throw and hits Tiki Barber for a very short pickup out in the flat.
- 2:19:24He is dropped by Chris McAllister, who has one interception, one of the three, thrown by Terry Collins in this game.
- 2:19:30You know, we talked about it before the game, Matt. I'll reiterate it again.
- 2:19:33We talked about the quarterback with the ironclad stomach as we watched the Giants go to their two-minute hurry-up offense.
- 2:19:39I like this. We talked about this.
- 2:19:40Terry Collins has got to have that stomach right now. He's just got to forget everything that he's already done
- 2:19:45and see if he can manufacture some points.
- 2:19:47Collins throws, and Hilliard catches and then fumbles it.
- 2:19:50And the Ravens have recovered it at the 50-yard line, or is it in completion?
- 2:19:54No, no. It was... I don't know if it was a fall.
- 2:19:56I thought it was in completion. Two feet came down. It should be a fumble.
- 2:19:59Well, they'll review it if nothing else.
- 2:20:01They're calling it an incompletion.
- 2:20:04That's a ruled incomplete pass.
- 2:20:07This would be interesting to see whether or not Brian Billick decides to review this.
- 2:20:12This would be a third down, third and ten.
- 2:20:15One, two. He's got the ball. That's a catch.
- 2:20:17Yes, it is.
- 2:20:18Catch and a fumble.
- 2:20:19I'm the Giants. I make this play in a hurry. Otherwise, Billick's going to throw that little red flag out there.
- 2:20:24Well, they're in their two-minute offense. There's no question.
- 2:20:26And the thing about it here is that they can look at it on the big screen,
- 2:20:29because they're showing it on the big screen here in the stadium, and Billick doesn't do it.
- 2:20:33Can't challenge now. Collins throws. Barber catches. Slips a tackle.
- 2:20:36But it's brought down hard at the 38-yard line.
- 2:20:39That's why he let it go, because it was third and ten. They haven't done anything all day.
- 2:20:42Forget it. Turn it over to your defense. The stiff will take care of it himself.
- 2:20:46Lewis and McCrary combined on the deck.
- 2:20:48I'm just thinking what my thoughts would be on the sidelines.
- 2:20:50I understand that.
- 2:20:51Now, how are your thoughts going to change as an administrator?
- 2:20:54I'm not going to be worse. They're going to be worse.
- 2:20:57Right now, I'm just...
- 2:20:58His thoughts are going to be worse.
- 2:20:59You think you can start calling your players stiffs?
- 2:21:02You're saying you are?
- 2:21:04No. That's tough, though. I mean, he's just...
- 2:21:07Karen Collins has never slowed himself down all game long.
- 2:21:11But he threw a nice ball to I. Kill. You'd write the scene.
- 2:21:14If Hillard just holds onto the ball, first down.
- 2:21:17Well, this is going to tie a Super Bowl record.
- 2:21:19Fifteen punts in this game by these two kickers.
- 2:21:23This one is a good one. A high deep kick over to the sidelines.
- 2:21:26Lewis stepped out of bounds and then let it hit.
- 2:21:29I think it hit out of bounds at around the 20-yard line.
- 2:21:31Perfect kick. It hit out of bounds at the 17.
- 2:21:34A beautiful kick by Brad Maynard.
- 2:21:3645 yards, 4.5 to play, third quarter, 10-0 Baltimore.
- 2:21:41You're listening to exclusive coverage of Super Bowl 35 on Westwood Walk.

- 2:23:43I already gave it to my kids.
- 2:23:45They took them.
- 2:23:47Let's see what Dilford can do now, see how his fingers respond.
- 2:23:50Well, Trent Dilford back of the game.
- 2:23:54He's going to throw. He dropped.
- 2:23:56Looking long, throws it over the middle and on time,
- 2:23:59but unable to hold on is Shannon Sharp.
- 2:24:01That was a well-thrown ball by Dilford down the middle of the field.
- 2:24:05Sharp unable to hold on. Let's go down to Dock.
- 2:24:07Howard, it certainly was a well-thrown ball.
- 2:24:09Sharp should have had it in.
- 2:24:11Here's the official diagnosis on Trent Dilford's left pinky.
- 2:24:15It was a left-fifth metacarpal.
- 2:24:17They took X-rays. They're negative.
- 2:24:19Obviously, he's back in the game through that ball real well.
- 2:24:22The fifth metacarpal is one of your favorite bones.
- 2:24:25It hurts. It's right on the inside of your knuckle.
- 2:24:28It's probably really swollen. It hurts.
- 2:24:30Every time he takes a snap, he's going to feel it.
- 2:24:33Not with that overhand they have in it.
- 2:24:35Second and ten.
- 2:24:37Baltimore, Dilford changing the play at the line of scrimmage.
- 2:24:41Takes the snap, goes back to throw, airing it out.
- 2:24:44Deep down the right side and over the head of both Seahorn and Johnson.
- 2:24:50The pass was actually thrown out of bounds,
- 2:24:52and we've seen that several times tonight from Dilford.
- 2:24:55You can see as he gets up, he's looking at his finger
- 2:24:58as Michael McCrary now is going underneath the stadium
- 2:25:01to have something looked at. We're not sure what that's all about.
- 2:25:04We'll get back to you with that when we get the update.
- 2:25:07As watching Trent Dilford happen today, Matt, I mean, it's just like he's off.
- 2:25:13Even though every other pass or every fourth or fifth pass seems like it's on,
- 2:25:17for the most part, they're landing out of bounds,
- 2:25:19especially the ones he's trying to throw deep down the sideline.
- 2:25:22Baltimore, two of 11 on third down plays, but they lead 10-0 in the third quarter.
- 2:25:26Dilford back to throw. They push up the middle.
- 2:25:29Dilford is hit by Strahan as he throws, incomplete.
- 2:25:33Strahan and Keith Hamilton, excellent job.
- 2:25:37They've got a nice stunt to the inside. Just pulled up his power.
- 2:25:41Part of it, sometimes Dilford has time when he's made bad throws.
- 2:25:45Other times, it's just been good defense by the New York Giants team.
- 2:25:48I will say this, if the Giants can get some momentum, any bit of momentum,
- 2:25:53I don't see the Raven offense moving the ball the rest of the second half.
- 2:25:56Why?
- 2:25:57Because they're close to moving the ball.
- 2:25:59Down to the four-minute mark in the third quarter.
- 2:26:01That fourth quarter is just about on us. They better get on their horse.
- 2:26:04Richardson to punt, makes the snap at the five and delivers it upfield.
- 2:26:09A wobbly kick, returnable by Barber from the 35.
- 2:26:13With room at the 40, trying to go wide to the left side, 45 and gets whacked.
- 2:26:18You can hear the crack of the shoulder pads and the helmets as they collide,
- 2:26:22and Anthony Davis makes the stop.
- 2:26:24A nine-yard kick and a nine-yard return, and there's a player down.
- 2:26:27Yeah, and Robert Bailey is motioning over right away, because that was the hit.
- 2:26:31That was a heck of a shot by the Ravens.
- 2:26:35I think it was Anthony Davis. It was Anthony Davis. He smacked them good.
- 2:26:39We have four minutes left in the third quarter.
- 2:26:42It's nothing Baltimore. You're listening to exclusive coverage of Super Bowl 35 on Westwood Ward.

- 2:28:14Let's go down to James Lofton. James?
- 2:28:17Hey Howard, I'm here in the booth again with Tom Flores, Super Bowl championship coach from Super Bowl XV
- 2:28:24over the Philadelphia Eagles and then Super Bowl XVIII here in Tampa against the Washington Redskins.
- 2:28:30We're seeing little offense today. Do we need a Marcus Allen trick run coming up?
- 2:28:34Well I think so. Let's watch his plays and see. But so far neither team has been able to sustain any offense.
- 2:28:40Best starting position for the Giants. The slant is picked off.
- 2:28:44Wayne Starks going the distance.
- 2:28:47Wayne Starks touchdown. Ball of Oro, 49 yard return.
- 2:28:52Another Kerry Collins pass. That's the fourth interception thrown by Collins and this one likely hurts the most.
- 2:29:00Guys what you have is you have Tripp to one side on the left and you have Imani Tumor all by himself at the bottom.
- 2:29:06Good defensive coordinators tell their players when they line up in this particular formation, watch the slant on the back side.
- 2:29:13The quarterback's reading one on one. Wayne Starks reading the quarterback the whole way.
- 2:29:18Just jumps right in front of Imani Tumor and takes it to the distance.
- 2:29:22And you know why Boom? Tunnel vision. Eyeballed it the whole way.
- 2:29:26But you know it's also as you know Matt, it's all about recognizing formations and defenses and that's exactly what the Baltimore Ravens did.
- 2:29:34Giants were the only team in the league not to give up a return touchdown this year of some kind.
- 2:29:40Interception, kick, punt, anything. Now they have given one up and the point after is good and the Ravens go up 17 to nothing.
- 2:29:47You're listening to exclusive coverage on Super Bowl 35 on Westwood Wards.

- 2:31:37Check out Super Bowl.com, the official Super Bowl 35 site powered by CBS Sportsline.com.
- 2:31:43Now back to Westwood 1's exclusive coverage of Super Bowl 35.
- 2:31:48Four interceptions thrown by Kerry Collins that ties the Super Bowl record.
- 2:31:54Craig Morton had four interceptions. In Super Bowl 12, Jim Kelly of Buffalo in Super Bowl 16.
- 2:32:01And in Super Bowl 31, Drew Bledsoe threw four against Green Bay.
- 2:32:05The last one likely, Matt, to be the most damaging of the lot.
- 2:32:13Matt, are you there? Hello? Yeah, what about it?
- 2:32:16What else can you say? I mean, you're right. This game is basically over with the way they've been playing.
- 2:32:21Most damaging of the lot, Matt.
- 2:32:24Kickoff to Ron Dixon. He's up to the 20. To the outside 30.
- 2:32:29Breaks a tackle at the 40. He can go! Ron Dixon down the middle of the ballpark. They won't catch him.
- 2:32:36Touchdown Ron Dixon. 97 yards. And the Giants are not dead yet.
- 2:32:46Matt, you said it was over. Right. I meant until Matt played. Oh, okay. He didn't listen to you. He finished that thing.
- 2:32:52Finally they got something.
- 2:32:54What they got was Ron Dixon, a nice job in blocking on a left return. Once he hit the crease, it was over.
- 2:33:05Well, the Giants had to get offense from somewhere. And this is not an unlikely source.
- 2:33:09You know, he did this against the Philadelphia Eagles, the first play of the game.
- 2:33:13That's the fourth longest kickoff return for a touchdown in Super Bowl history. Of course, the biggest was Desmond Howard.
- 2:33:19And the point after. The first of the game for Brad Del Aweeso. Two touchdowns in 18 seconds. One for each. The Ravens now lead 17-7.
- 2:33:30Let's pause 10 seconds for station identification. This is CBS Radio Sports exclusive coverage of Super Bowl 35 on Westwood 1.
- 2:33:40This is Steve Kerr. All the Spurs this season. Right here.
- 2:33:54Howard, David, Matt, Nolan, Bomer, Siaison, John Dockery and James Laughton. A game that pretty much has been extremely quiet. Too quiet.
- 2:34:02And the Giants and the Ravens have just scored two touchdowns. One each in 18 seconds.
- 2:34:08Well, you're just waiting for something to happen good for the Giants. And certainly they've been the manufacturer of the poor play because of all the interceptions and the turnovers.
- 2:34:18But Ron Dixon, a tremendous run. I mean, and great blocking at the point of attack. Nobody was even close to him, Matt, as he rolled through the side, the left side of the defense of the puck, of the kickoff coverage for the Ravens.
- 2:34:30And just a smooth sailing from the 50 on. There was nobody even close. So for the first time after a score by the Giants. How about an onside kick right here?
- 2:34:40Not beyond the realm of impossibility, but they're going to kick this one off. It'll be Lewis at the 16. Up to the 20. Stunners get 25. To the 30. To the outside, 40.
- 2:34:52Lewis to the 50. Down the sidelines. There he goes. Goodbye, Jermaine Lewis. 84 yards for a touchdown. Jermaine Lewis matches his uniform number. That goes the distance.
- 2:35:07Did I mention to you that it's over?
- 2:35:12Is that the first time for back to back touchdowns or is it the second time?
- 2:35:16Actually, somebody else did that.
- 2:35:18I hate when that happens.
- 2:35:20Detroit and Green Bay. Three touchdowns in the last 36 seconds. We've been complaining about no scoring and here we go.
- 2:35:26You know, you should have known that it was Detroit and Green Bay did it.
- 2:35:30Of course.
- 2:35:31Now couldn't it be Detroit and Green Bay?
- 2:35:33Terry Fair isn't in a regular season game this year. Rolled this year. Rolled this year. Not in the Super Bowl.
- 2:35:38What about the Super Bowl?
- 2:35:39It's the first time it ever happened in a Super Bowl.
- 2:35:42And the putt after by Stover. It's good. 24-7 Ravens.
- 2:35:49Now if you're neutral, you love it because you're seeing big plays.
- 2:35:53The Giants hate it because they thought they got themselves back in and with 3-13 left in the third quarter, they're not out of it, but they sure didn't need that.
- 2:36:01You want to know what happened there, and I don't want to get too technical on this, but you know, Brad D'Alessio, you know, kicks a low ball and a short ball.
- 2:36:09And by the time the Giants are actually close enough to Jermaine Lewis, he's already up the field to about the 30 yard line.
- 2:36:16He got himself a great block by Corey Harris.
- 2:36:20Yes, he did. Fantastic block. Two guys with one block, and Jermaine Lewis doesn't need much room to be able to get through on that right sideline. It was awesome.
- 2:36:29See, I don't think Ron Dixon's going to return this kickoff because he's probably tired from the last one.
- 2:36:33And that just happened a little while ago.
- 2:36:35So let me clarify this. That's the first time ever in Super Bowl history a back-to-back.
- 2:36:39Back-to-back kickoff return after a score. Right.
- 2:36:42But not the first time this year.
- 2:36:44No, it was only the second time ever in NFL history that it was back-to-back touchdown.
- 2:36:49Well, these two franchises have, or these cities really have long tradition.
- 2:36:55Baltimore, of course, the Ravens coming from Cleveland, but the one-time Baltimore Colts certainly had a lot of tradition and a lot of great players.
- 2:37:04And everybody remembers the 1958 classic called the greatest game ever played.
- 2:37:08It really wasn't the greatest game, but it just opened up everybody's eyes to the pro game.
- 2:37:13Dixon on the return, doubles back against Harris. That is dropped by Corey Harris at the 25.
- 2:37:19There's something different, a tackle on special teams.
- 2:37:22Let's go down to James Lofty.
- 2:37:24Guys, I've been sitting with Tom Flores. We've watched three plays produce 21 points.
- 2:37:28My question beforehand, watch the Ravens defense. Do you think they're the best ever?
- 2:37:33And if not, what defenses would you rank above them?
- 2:37:36Well, I tell you, they're the best that I've seen in recent years, but you got to do it consistently.
- 2:37:41I have to go back to some of those great Steeler defenses.
- 2:37:44Actually, James, our defense in 83 when we hit the Super Bowl was a pretty good defense because we held the Redskins to only nine points that year.
- 2:37:52But this is an outstanding defense.
- 2:37:54You heard it, Howard. Outstanding.
- 2:37:57Well, I might have consciously omitted the Chicago Bears of 86. They were pretty good.
- 2:38:02They were pretty good.
- 2:38:04But remember, this is a defense. Look at the amount of points that it gives up.
- 2:38:08The amount of points that you give up, that's the key.
- 2:38:11And then the amount of points that you score for your team.
- 2:38:13And that's exactly what this defense does.
- 2:38:16Loss of the yard, Collins throws, and it's nearly picked off by Ray Lewis, who had a deep drop on the pass intended for the tight end Pete Mitchell.
- 2:38:24Let's go downstairs to John Dockery.
- 2:38:26Howard, you and Matt and Boomer were talking about the short kickoffs by Brad D'Auliso.
- 2:38:30And I asked Jim Fossil before the game because, you know, who was out?
- 2:38:34Jared Holmes was out kicking off, and I said to him, well, who kicks off today?
- 2:38:38Is it Holmes or is it D'Auliso?
- 2:38:40He said, it's D'Auliso.
- 2:38:42And he said he hoped that the warm weather would help him out.
- 2:38:45His kicks have been short against the Vikings, against Philadelphia.
- 2:38:48He was worried. Obviously, it affected him on that last kickoff.
- 2:38:51Well, the Giants now have a third and one.
- 2:38:53And Doc, thanks. Back to the 24, the Giants.
- 2:38:56Hilliard in motion. Collins back to pass.
- 2:38:58In trouble. Throws as he gets whacked and driven to the turf by Sam Adams.
- 2:39:04It is incomplete.
- 2:39:05And you know what's bad about that? Three-man pressure.
- 2:39:08That's a three-man line. Adams coming right up the center.
- 2:39:11And you can't get pressure that quickly on your quarterback when you're rushing only three guys.
- 2:39:15And I mean, he splits a double team, which is inexcusable if you're the offensive line of the Giants.
- 2:39:21Sam Adams has played himself a pretty darn good football game here today.
- 2:39:24Bad communication right there on the offensive line of the Giants
- 2:39:27because you can't let Sam Adams come up the middle with two guys blocking him.
- 2:39:31The effort and the effectiveness of having a big-time kick returner has paid off once again for Baltimore.
- 2:39:37Here's a maiden kick to Jermaine Lewis.
- 2:39:39He failed it at the 35.
- 2:39:42That's where the Ravens will take over with 2.19 left.
- 2:39:45Three touchdowns in 36 seconds.
- 2:39:4824-7, Baltimore. That was a quick... Maybe they should.
- 2:39:51Well, the one thing we haven't seen tonight, Howard,
- 2:39:54is we haven't seen a turnover from the Giants defense.
- 2:39:57That's what we've got to start seeing if the Giants want to get back into this game.
- 2:40:01Dillfer under center.
- 2:40:03He hands to Lewis running right across the 35
- 2:40:07and cut down after a gain of a yard by Sam Guards with 2.10 left in the third.
- 2:40:12And the Ravens on top 24-7.
- 2:40:14Would your coaches tell you, Matt, you have to get the ball, you have to rip the ball out at this point?
- 2:40:18I mean, I know they're always talking about stripping the ball and trying to create turnovers,
- 2:40:23but does the awareness start to heighten now as you get to this point in the game?
- 2:40:27Yeah, and you know what's going to... They haven't really... Defensively, they've played pretty well.
- 2:40:30They haven't really done much against this New York Giants defense.
- 2:40:35And then it really comes into play in gang tackling.
- 2:40:37The first guy always has to make sure that the hit... The second guy comes in to make the strip.
- 2:40:42Dillfer takes the hand snap and goes back to throw under a rush.
- 2:40:45He throws and a catch is made by Ben Coates over the middle for a first down to the Baltimore 48-yard line.
- 2:40:52Well, Trent Dillfer showing me some toughness there, sticking it in to Ben Coates as Michael Strahan delivers a blow as soon as he throws the football.
- 2:41:00But it seems like Trent Dillfer's gotten a little bit better here since he's come back from the injury.
- 2:41:07I mean, he knows he's going to get drilled. Strahan hits him right in the ribs.
- 2:41:11And he delivers the ball accurately down the field to Ben Coates.
- 2:41:15Well, you said, you know, who's the quarterback that's going to have the cast iron stomach?
- 2:41:18Right now you've got to say it's Dillfer.
- 2:41:19Certainly has been.
- 2:41:22Keep in mind against Tennessee, they're going to finish the thought in the second, first and 10th.
- 2:41:27Baltimore at their own 48.
- 2:41:29Jamal Lewis running left.
- 2:41:32No game to the 50-yard line.
- 2:41:33Against Tennessee, Dillfer threw for 281 yards.
- 2:41:36Two touchdowns was intercepted once and he was sacked five times in that game and still hung around for the victory.
- 2:41:42Well, just remember this now.
- 2:41:43The Ravens put on 14 points on the scoreboard, one by special teams and one by their cornerback, Wayne Starks, in an interception return.
- 2:41:51I mean, this is Ravens football at its finest.
- 2:41:53This is exactly what it is.
- 2:41:55And you can take a look at what the offense is doing here.
- 2:41:58They're just kind of methodically just trying to run the ball and run the clock down and just kind of eat up as much time as they possibly can.
- 2:42:05This is the way the Ravens win.
- 2:42:0724 points, seven first downs.
- 2:42:11Second down and eight.
- 2:42:13Dillfer rolling right, throws it on the run.
- 2:42:15Nice catch by Shannon Sharpe at the 45-yard line.
- 2:42:18About two yards shy of a first down.
- 2:42:21That's the end of the third quarter with the Ravens on top.
- 2:42:2424 to 7.
- 2:42:26You're listening to exclusive coverage of Super Bowl 35 on Westwood 1.

- 2:44:06And yet, I am perplexed by how difficult it is to ride my unicycle through you.
- 2:44:11But now you are no big whoop to me, Sand.
- 2:44:16Leave it to a Jeep Wrangler owner to put perspective on something as coarse as sand.
- 2:44:20In Wrangler, you can do anything under the sun, and at such a great price, owning one is like having it made in the shade.
- 2:44:26Jeep Wrangler, it kind of evens out the whole man versus nature thing.
- 2:44:29Jeep is a registered trademark of Daimler-Creister.
- 2:44:35Third Super Bowl in Tampa. 18 Super Bowl number 18 in 1984, and then Super Bowl 25 in 1991, won by these Giants.
- 2:44:43But not this particular Giant team, but by the Giants as Scott Norwood's kick went wide right late in the ball game,
- 2:44:50and the Giants held on for the win. The direct snap back to Jermaine Lewis for a few yards.
- 2:44:57And he almost got the first down. A little bit of trickery on the direct snap by Baltimore.
- 2:45:02Sean Williams makes the stop. That was a third down play.
- 2:45:05That's one of those plays where if it works, it looks like the greatest thing in the world.
- 2:45:08But you know, you're talking about letting your quarterback try to make a third down for you.
- 2:45:12In this situation, I can't believe that they try to run this play.
- 2:45:15Well, well what?
- 2:45:18I'll leave it alone.
- 2:45:21Well, well, I'll tell you after the game.
- 2:45:25Okay. Oh, tell us now. Tell us now, please.
- 2:45:30Hilliard back to wake the punt of Richardson.
- 2:45:34It's a high in the air wobbly kick. Fair catch made by Hilliard at the 8-yard line of the Giants.
- 2:45:41I'll tell you that Kyle Richardson is some punter, Matt.
- 2:45:43He's had a big game.
- 2:45:44He has had a big game. Now on the, what, the 8-yard line.
- 2:45:47So with a timeout of 24-7, Baltimore. This is Westwood 1's coverage of Super Bowl 35.
- 2:45:53Hi, Craig Wayan. Right now our friends at Lee Johnson Ford have a huge selection of over 580 F Series trucks on sale.
- 2:46:00Right now after a thousand cash back, 2001 automatic Ford F-150 four-door XLT Supercabs with air conditioning are sales-tacked for only $20,799.
- 2:46:11Plus on a 36-month option with zero down plus TT&L, these automatic four-door XLT Supercabs are on sale for just $319 a month.
- 2:46:20Lee Johnson Ford, airport at Koenig just south of Highland Mall.
- 2:46:23I bought a house at Mobile Home Mall.
- 2:46:25Pleasant experience? Oh, great. Great. Great.
- 2:46:27As opposed to? A girl that I had worked with bought a manufactured house at Mobile Home Mall.
- 2:46:31A Mobile Home Mall competitor?
- 2:46:33And a year after she bought it, she was still trying to get in it.
- 2:46:36Not going to happen at Mobile Home Mall.
- 2:46:38You walk in down there and right on the front wall they've got their big mission statement.
- 2:46:42It says how they put their customers first and they do business the old-fashioned way.
- 2:46:46Mobile Home Mall.
- 2:46:47And they do what they say they're going to do.
- 2:46:49Call 1-877-600-MALL.
- 2:46:55Let's go down to John Dockery. Dockery, you got an update on McCrary?
- 2:46:58Yes, I do, Howard. And he's back in the game.
- 2:47:00If you look at his right hand, you'll see that it's in a cast.
- 2:47:03He actually broke his knuckle. They took him inside, found out it wasn't a compound fracture.
- 2:47:07He's back at his right-hand position.
- 2:47:09Meanwhile, good thing they're deep at the defensive line position.
- 2:47:12Rob Burnett, he rolled his left ankle. He's questionable.
- 2:47:15Time for the Giants, Rod Dixon cramps on the sidelines. His return is questionable.
- 2:47:20Cramps?
- 2:47:22Cramps?
- 2:47:24I don't think he started on his hot hair or anything.
- 2:47:27Yeah, well.
- 2:47:28Now, looking at this game, going into the start of the fourth quarter,
- 2:47:32nobody has distinguished himself in the MVP category.
- 2:47:37And I know maybe the biggest plays today have been in field position, in the kicking game.
- 2:47:44Well, for the first time, as you well know, in Super Bowl history,
- 2:47:47the fans do get a chance to cast a deciding vote for the MVP.
- 2:47:50Log on to Super Bowl.com and vote powered by CBSSportsline.com.
- 2:47:55Super Bowl.com is the official site of Super Bowl 35.
- 2:47:58I'm thinking that maybe he might give it to Kyle Richardson to put it.
- 2:48:01Never. I have a vote. I have a vote.
- 2:48:04No, no, no.
- 2:48:07Richardson's had nine punts with 43-yard average.
- 2:48:10Collins out of his shotgun. Back to the goal line.
- 2:48:12Pumps once. Pros on the run. Incomplete.
- 2:48:15And Barber paid the price out in the flat.
- 2:48:17He just got killed out there by Robert Bailey.
- 2:48:20By the way, when he was with the Rams, had a punt return of 103 yards.
- 2:48:26Well, you see, that's the defense right there, Howard.
- 2:48:28This is the thing.
- 2:48:29You know, Tiki's not catching this ball, but Robert Bailey leaves, you know, a message.
- 2:48:34And he left the mark, too.
- 2:48:36And he definitely left the mark.
- 2:48:37That'll leave a mark.
- 2:48:38How about the Giants? No rushing first downs today.
- 2:48:42Well, you knew the ball was going to be impossible to run.
- 2:48:45Now the Giants spread the field. Collins back to the goal line in trouble.
- 2:48:48Sack bubbles the ball.
- 2:48:50The Ravens may have it inside the Giants five, but the Giants do wrestle it away.
- 2:48:56Michael McCrary.
- 2:48:57Never saw McCrary with one arm.
- 2:48:59Knock him loose. Just blew right by the left offensive tackle there, and that's Lomas Brown.
- 2:49:06Well, we talked about this. You hear so much about Ray Lewis and Rod Woodson, and rightfully so, great football players.
- 2:49:12But to be a great team, there has to be some unselfishness on your football team.
- 2:49:16And Sam Adams, Tony Ceragusa, Peter Bolware, and Michael McCrary are those unsung heroes that are finally starting to shine,
- 2:49:24and they're coming to fruition in the biggest game of the year.
- 2:49:27Lomas Brown, by the way, recovered the fumble.
- 2:49:30The Giants now face the third and 15.
- 2:49:32Collins kicks to the end zone, throws out to the left, nobody looking, and the ball drops right at the feet of McAllister.
- 2:49:39A pass allegedly intended for Jaravitz.
- 2:49:42Interesting they came with a blitz that Marvin Lewis dialing up a book. Marvin Lewis called an excellent game here.
- 2:49:47They're putting the pressure on him.
- 2:49:49Yeah, he brought the trap off the left side as they're defending left to right, and forced that throw, and actually McAllister,
- 2:49:57if he can get away from the receiver, that's another pick.
- 2:50:02Jermaine Lewis, who has one kickoff return for a touchdown, stands at the 49 of the Giants, awaiting Brad Maynard's punt.
- 2:50:09Got his heels at the back of the end zone, awaiting the snap from center.
- 2:50:13It is a good one. They set up the run for Baltimore, and Maynard's kick is a wobbly kick.
- 2:50:18Fair catch as they wave everybody away. It bounces sideways.
- 2:50:21It bounced over one of the Ravens and might have grazed him.
- 2:50:25But McAllister apparently didn't. I think it went right over his rear end.
- 2:50:29I'll tell you, what a break McAllister caught, but this is the way it's been going for the Giants today.
- 2:50:35McAllister's on the ground. The ball is bouncing towards him.
- 2:50:38It bounces right over him without him even knowing that it's happening.
- 2:50:42It's almost like he has to do the limbo.
- 2:50:45The limbo.
- 2:50:46La la la la la la la la.
- 2:50:48It's Chubby Checker.
- 2:50:50I should know these things.
- 2:50:5213 minutes left in the ball game.
- 2:50:5524-7 Baltimore. This is Westwood 1's coverage of Super Bowl 35.
- 2:51:00Hi, this is Craig Wade.
- 2:51:02To tell you once more that Sprint PCS offers great deals on Sprint PCS digital phones, they ought to.
- 2:51:07Sprint PCS offers the only all-digital, all-PCS nationwide network that they themselves built from the ground up,
- 2:51:14serving more than 300 major metropolitan areas.
- 2:51:17I should know I've used my Sprint PCS phone in nearly all of those major metropolitan areas.
- 2:51:22You can really tell the difference.
- 2:51:24Take it from me and try Sprint PCS.
- 2:51:26It is, after all, the clear alternative to cellular.
- 2:51:29What if you invited all your friends over to a Wing Zone Super Bowl party?
- 2:51:32Turn down the TV and nothing happened.
- 2:51:35Where were the players? The crowd.
- 2:51:37And then it hits you.
- 2:51:38The team's probably sitting back enjoying a Wing Zone party too.
- 2:51:41Hey, double 31, Jason C. Horn.
- 2:51:43You can't sit home and have a Wing Zone party? Sure, Wing Zone Wings attempting.
- 2:51:47Well, someone's got to play defense.
- 2:51:49So get back on the field and get the crowd back in the stadium and the ball fans at home.
- 2:51:55Let's get down to business at the first-rate Super Bowl party with Wing Zone
- 2:51:59and be glad you're able to enjoy tasty mouth-watering wings.
- 2:52:02Wing Zone Jumbo Wings are fresh and made to order.

- 2:52:25Call 370-BIRD. Wing Zone at 370.
- 2:52:29Bird. Bird's the word.
- 2:52:31A reminder that for every touchdown scored inside the red zone tonight,
- 2:52:34Dodge will donate $500 to the March of Dimes Foundation.
- 2:52:37Think Dodge different.
- 2:52:38We should have $500 donated for every return for a touchdown tonight.
- 2:52:42We'd have some money.
- 2:52:43No red zone plays at all tonight.
- 2:52:45To get touchdowns with no red zone plays, period.
- 2:52:49We'd even take $500 per first down if you wouldn't have that much.
- 2:52:54So the Ravens get great field position at the Giant 38.
- 2:52:58They already lead 24-7 with two minutes gone by in the fourth quarter.
- 2:53:02Drop! Drop! Drop!
- 2:53:05They'll throw hands off to Jermaine, to Jamal Lewis for virtually no game.
- 2:53:10Well yesterday they announced the seven finalists and the seven inductees
- 2:53:14for Pro Football's Hall of Fame.
- 2:53:15One of them, Jack Youngblood, once played in a championship game
- 2:53:18and a Super Bowl with a broken leg.
- 2:53:20There's a good class right there.
- 2:53:22An excellent class. My buddy from Penn State, Mike Munchak,
- 2:53:25in the Hall of Fame, well deserved.
- 2:53:27Jackie Slater, well deserved.
- 2:53:28Oh, Marv Levy. Marv Levy.
- 2:53:30One of the great all-time coaches.
- 2:53:32Many people thought that he might have been overshadowed by Bill Parcells,
- 2:53:36who did not get in.
- 2:53:38And, you know, for probably all kinds of different reasons,
- 2:53:42many people think he's going to come back and coach.
- 2:53:45McPhonotani got in.
- 2:53:47Second down and 10 Giants splits up the middle.
- 2:53:50Bilchwer the deep drop, throws over the middle,
- 2:53:52and on time catch by Ben Coats, down up a giant 20-yard line in the first down.
- 2:53:57Or Baltimore. Others getting in.
- 2:53:59And Swann, of course, had a great career with the Pitchburg Steelers.
- 2:54:02Ron Yarry, seven-time Pro Bowler tackle out of Southern Cowl
- 2:54:06to play with the Vikings and the Rams.
- 2:54:08Jackie Slater, who played 20 years in the NFL.
- 2:54:11I mentioned Youngblood.
- 2:54:12Marv Levy, I saw him last night at the Taste of the NFL,
- 2:54:15a terrific job by the NFL,
- 2:54:17and their festivities that go on all this week.
- 2:54:21I asked Marv when he found out.
- 2:54:23He said he didn't get the call at 1130, 1135, 1140.
- 2:54:26Wife saw it on television. She was jumping up and down on the bed in their hotel room.
- 2:54:30First and 10 Baltimore at the giant 20 lawn.
- 2:54:36Lewis, off-left tackle.
- 2:54:39There's a 19-yard line.
- 2:54:4124-7 Baltimore.
- 2:54:43They have had two returns for touchdowns, an interception return, a kickoff return.
- 2:54:49Ron Dixon for the Giants, a kickoff return.
- 2:54:51And all of that stuff happened in about a 36-second span.
- 2:54:55Baltimore has won 17 straight, by the way, when leading after three-quarters.
- 2:54:59And their defense is so good.
- 2:55:01They're pretty conch-eaming right there.
- 2:55:03Very good conch-eaming.
- 2:55:04Totally in control of this football game.
- 2:55:06A couple of the attributes of the Baltimore Ravens.
- 2:55:08Great defense, no question about that.
- 2:55:10A great punter in Kyle Richardson, who really was pinning back
- 2:55:13the offensive of the Giants continually throughout this football game.
- 2:55:18Oh, they hooked, hooked!
- 2:55:21Richard Johnson in motion. We're going to get a flag.
- 2:55:25The only one who's played pretty well for these New York Giants today has been Michael Strahan.
- 2:55:29Strahan has played well. Bowles played well. Armstead's played well.
- 2:55:33You know, the other thing here, too, is when you think about the Ravens and the way they play.
- 2:55:37Encroachment, defense, 97-5 yard. It's still second down.
- 2:55:42Many people have said that Trent Jilford goes out on the field
- 2:55:44and doesn't try to lose the game as opposed to trying to win the game.
- 2:55:48And watching this team, and I've seen, what, 10 of their films this year, Matt,
- 2:55:53I think if you're the quarterback, that's probably the way you have to play.
- 2:55:56Yeah, why wouldn't you? I mean, it's got to be somewhat of a relief
- 2:55:59that you don't have to carry the whole team on your shoulders
- 2:56:02like most quarterbacks are asked to do.
- 2:56:04I mean, certainly, Kerry Collins coming into this game
- 2:56:07had to do more for his team to win than Trent Jilford did.
- 2:56:12Second down at about three of the Giant 14.
- 2:56:16Lewis straight ahead over the pile.
- 2:56:18About a yard shy of a first down.
- 2:56:20Well, the Ravens have been saying all year,
- 2:56:22they go to their defensive coordinator, Marvin Lewis.
- 2:56:24How many points do we need? How many points do we have to score offensively?
- 2:56:27You get about 14, it should be enough.
- 2:56:30Two good coaches here, incidentally.
- 2:56:32Marvin Lewis will get his shot as a head coach, I believe, shortly.
- 2:56:35As will John Fox.
- 2:56:38Both defensive coordinators, both good coaches, both ready.
- 2:56:42One goes to Buffalo, one goes to Cleveland, possibly.
- 2:56:44That's what's being said.
- 2:56:46Now, whether or not that happens or not remains to be seen,
- 2:56:48but both these guys are ready to take the next step.
- 2:56:51Well, the job in Detroit still, I heard.
- 2:56:53That's what I've heard.
- 2:56:56First red zone play by either team.
- 2:56:59Third down and two.
- 2:57:01They hand to Lewis into the heart of the line.
- 2:57:03First down inside the five-yard line of the Giants, Sam Guarant.
- 2:57:07They have just delayed the inevitable.
- 2:57:11It is a first down for Baltimore at the Giants' three-yard line.
- 2:57:14Now, this is the other thing that happens to a team when you're playing the Ravens.
- 2:57:17You go three and out, you go three and out, you go three and out, you go three and out,
- 2:57:21and your defense spends an awful lot of time on the field.
- 2:57:24Yeah, you know, just got away with a nice hold there was Finn Coates on Ryan Phillips.
- 2:57:29And when you look at this, New York has had ten possessions today, guys.
- 2:57:34On all of those ten possessions, it's been three plays or less.
- 2:57:38Three and out?
- 2:57:39Yeah. Or ten possessions.
- 2:57:41Or one and out, too.
- 2:57:42It could be one and out.
- 2:57:43Yep.
- 2:57:44First and goal, Baltimore.
- 2:57:46The pitch to Lewis, trying to run wide to the corner.
- 2:57:49Looking and he gets over the pylon for a touchdown as the ball comes loose,
- 2:57:54but apparently he crossed the goal line first.
- 2:57:58Sam Gatch with a heck of a block, and Jamal Lewis gets his first Super Bowl touchdown.
- 2:58:06Jamal Lewis just decides he's not going to be stopped, lowers his shoulder, runs over Michael Barrow.
- 2:58:13Oh, that's awful close.
- 2:58:14Very, very close.
- 2:58:15He actually spread Michael Barrow and he collided.
- 2:58:18And then I believe it's Griffith, Cornelius Griffith, who comes in and tries to clean up,
- 2:58:23and as Griffith gets there, the ball is loose before it comes.
- 2:58:29And if it goes through the anvil, it could be a touchback.
- 2:58:34They blew the, they stopped the point after.
- 2:58:36Jerry Austin blew the whistle and stopped the point after.
- 2:58:39Jim Fossil is probably going to want to challenge that touchdown.
- 2:58:42And he'd be right to do that.
- 2:58:43Well, Jim Fossil, as recently as, well, 1975, not that recently, but in 75,
- 2:58:49he was an air conditioner salesman, and he said he was miserable.
- 2:58:52And I don't know that he was more miserable then than he is right now.
- 2:58:55Well, now, that's going to happen.
- 2:58:56See, the ball came loose, and it was a signal touchdown.
- 2:58:59Yeah, but once they signal touchdown, you can't review it.
- 2:59:02Exactly.
- 2:59:03The recovery wouldn't matter.
- 2:59:04The Giants are challenging the call on the field of the touchdown.
- 2:59:07But you know who recovered it, though.
- 2:59:08Yeah, Ismael.
- 2:59:09Yeah, but it wouldn't matter.
- 2:59:10All right.
- 2:59:11Ismael recovered it.
- 2:59:12Ismael didn't see it, but that won't matter.
- 2:59:13That would be cause, as soon as he puts his hands up, that stops the play.
- 2:59:17And so it won't make a difference who covered it.
- 2:59:19This will actually be a touchback.
- 2:59:23Getting another look at it.
- 2:59:24Jamal Lewis has the ball in his left hand.
- 2:59:26He gets a heck of a shot from Barrow.
- 2:59:29And then Griffin comes over.
- 2:59:31Fumble.
- 2:59:32Yep.
- 2:59:33That is a flat-out fumble.
- 2:59:36I would agree.
- 2:59:38Well, we have 8.45 left in the game, and the Ravens still have a command of this contest.
- 2:59:42Zena.
- 2:59:4330 to 7.
- 2:59:44Even if I remember this properly, once he puts his hands in the air, that's like a whistle.
- 2:59:48Right.
- 2:59:49And so if it's like a whistle, both teams have to have the same and equal opportunity
- 2:59:54to get to the football.
- 2:59:55Even if Khajji Ismael comes over and gets the recovery, because the hands go up, that's
- 3:00:00going to be a touchback.
- 3:00:02Well, Jerry Austin checking it out.
- 3:00:04By the way, everybody who listens to us on Monday Night Football during the regular year
- 3:00:09realizes that this is Matt Millen's final broadcast for Westwood 1 and CBS Radio Sports.
- 3:00:14We will certainly miss Matt and wish him nothing but the best of success.
- 3:00:20I can't wait to do a Detroit Lions game so I can second guess every movie he's made.
- 3:00:24Neither can I.
- 3:00:26I can't wait either for another reason.
- 3:00:28Who's that for?
- 3:00:30Who the hell is running this game?
- 3:00:32You know the other thing?
- 3:00:33He said that when he said, and I've got it on tape, he said that when we go in there to
- 3:00:37do a Monday Night game, he's kicking network television out and putting them in our booth
- 3:00:40and we're going to get the network television.
- 3:00:42You better do that, buddy.
- 3:00:43Oh, absolutely.
- 3:00:44I know what's in your leaf good when you're in Detroit.
- 3:00:45I know we will.
- 3:00:46We'll have hamburgers, we'll have all kinds of steaks, ribs.
- 3:00:49And now Rosenberg is one of our hot flight engineers, actually, as the engineer for the
- 3:00:56Detroit Lions, so all game long, Al's been sucking up to Matt.
- 3:00:59I mean, it's actually embarrassing.
- 3:01:01Make sure he keeps his job.
- 3:01:02That's all.
- 3:01:03Matt's cleaning the house.
- 3:01:04You give him a bump.
- 3:01:05As we sit here and we wait for Jerry Austin, he's over there looking at the coach's challenge
- 3:01:09trying to determine whether or not, in fact, Jamal Lewis fumbled the football as he crossed
- 3:01:14the goal line.
- 3:01:15Well, it has been a great 2000 NFL season and on behalf of the NFL at all 32 clubs,
- 3:01:20we'd like to thank you for supporting your favorite team this year.
- 3:01:23We'll see you, of course, next season.
- 3:01:24We have one more game to do.
- 3:01:26The Pro Bowl in Honolulu.
- 3:01:28I'll be there.
- 3:01:29They're forcing us to go there against our will, but we will show up.
- 3:01:33Your daughter's here today, Boomer.
- 3:01:35Yes, Sydney's with me today.
- 3:01:36Got her last week.
- 3:01:37Sydney's with me today.
- 3:01:38Hi, Sid.
- 3:01:39How you doing?
- 3:01:40OK.
- 3:01:41You know what's funny?
- 3:01:42We walk into the stadium and on the big screen up ahead, she sees her brother.
- 3:01:47All right, here's Jerry Austin.
- 3:01:50Tell us about it.
- 3:01:51After reviewing the play, the call stands as made on the field.
- 3:01:57Touchdown.
- 3:01:58I think it's a bad call.
- 3:01:59I do too.
- 3:02:00It's unanimous.
- 3:02:01But remember this, there has to be clear evidence to overturn the call.
- 3:02:10He might see this as being unsure about it.
- 3:02:16It has to be indisputable visual evidence.
- 3:02:19And at that point, it doesn't look like there's control when he's going over it, but it's
- 3:02:23a move point anymore.
- 3:02:24It's not going to make a difference whether it's 24 or 30.

- 3:02:28This is history, boys.
- 3:02:29I'm afraid you're right.

- 3:04:26Jamal Lewis of three yards and a score.
- 3:04:30Guys, you'll never see the officials high-fiving after a play, but it got almost as close.
- 3:04:35Tony Vettari, the headlinesman who made that call after they went under the hood and counseled.
- 3:04:41The field judge came over to Tony, kind of said, nice score.
- 3:04:45That's about as close as they get.
- 3:04:48You're exactly right, James.
- 3:04:50And here's something else that's about as close as it gets.
- 3:04:52I was just handed a Super Bowl 35 Most Valuable Player ballot, and I'm not so sure who the
- 3:04:58heck to put on here.
- 3:05:00I couldn't tell you.
- 3:05:02There's nobody really who stood out in this game.
- 3:05:04Ron Dixon fields the kickoff of the 11-yard line.
- 3:05:06He's had one return for a touchdown.
- 3:05:08He's across the 20, 25, to the 30.
- 3:05:10Tries to get outside, fumbles the ball, and the Ravens have recovered it at the 35 of the Giants.
- 3:05:19Stick a fork in them, boys.
- 3:05:21This one's done.
- 3:05:22You know, Britney Spears, maybe I should vote for her.
- 3:05:25Robert Bailey recovers the fumble by Ron Dixon.
- 3:05:32And with 8 1⁄2 to play in the game, the Ravens are starting to celebrate.
- 3:05:36They lead it 31-7.

- 3:07:14It's been a great 2000 NFL season.
- 3:07:17And on behalf of the NFL and all 32 clubs, we'd like to thank you for supporting your favorite team this year.
- 3:07:23See you again next season.
- 3:07:27Baltimore gave up 16 points in three playoff games.
- 3:07:31Counting today is 23 points in four playoff games.
- 3:07:34And their defense, which has been put to the test once again, has proven that they are the real deal.
- 3:07:44First and 10 Baltimore at the Giant 34 following the fifth turnover by the Giants.
- 3:07:50Lewis straight ahead to the 30.
- 3:07:53Breaks the tackle.
- 3:07:54Seahorn finally drags him down at the 20-yard line.
- 3:07:57And Jamal Lewis closing in on 100 yards for the day.
- 3:08:01Well, this is a part of the game now where the defense is just sailing out.
- 3:08:04They've been on the field, it seems, like the entire second half.
- 3:08:07It's going to be very difficult to tackle Jamal Lewis as he comes flying through the middle of the pack of the defense.
- 3:08:13Legs churning.
- 3:08:14This is exactly what you're talking about, Matt.
- 3:08:16This is the best part of his game.
- 3:08:18Straight ahead downhill.
- 3:08:20And this part of the game is where a great running back takes over.
- 3:08:23Well, he's got 25 carries for 95 yards and the one touchdown.
- 3:08:29Starting to emerge is a big time backer, a rookie from Tennessee who had a huge year with over 1,300 yards.
- 3:08:35Trying to air do it again.
- 3:08:37Breaks the tackle at the 20.
- 3:08:38Puts his shoulder down.
- 3:08:40Pops another giant loose at the 18-yard line before Sean Williams makes the stop.
- 3:08:46Jamal Lewis had 1,364 yards, second best amongst rookies to Denver's Mike Anderson.
- 3:08:52It was a great story this year.
- 3:08:54Oh, it was a fantastic story, but this Jamal Lewis is, he got a slow start, don't forget,
- 3:08:58because he's coming off a dislocated elbow at the start of the season.
- 3:09:01He had a scrimmage against the Redskins.
- 3:09:03And then he just, he came on strong.
- 3:09:05His style, though, his style is really a function of the offensive line.
- 3:09:09And it's more to the side of the offensive line being physical.
- 3:09:13And the more he goes, the better he gets.
- 3:09:15Lewis is starting to lay claim perhaps to the MVP of the game.
- 3:09:21Chuck Evans in the game, it's full back, he gets the carry, but I think they stopped the play.
- 3:09:26There's a fumble at the snap there, it looked like, Howard.
- 3:09:29Guilford, you're right.
- 3:09:30Maybe that was the other game you were looking at.
- 3:09:31That could be.
- 3:09:32You know, you start trying to find a better one.
- 3:09:35And you start talking about the MVPs moving, and we were talking about that in the commercial
- 3:09:41and also in the last segment, but I think the point is, defensively, both these teams have been strong.
- 3:09:47Nobody really has stood out.
- 3:09:48Nobody's really identified themselves as a guy who stood above everybody else.
- 3:09:52Neither offense, that's for sure.
- 3:09:55It was a turning point, right?
- 3:09:57And then the turning point was the interception by Dwayne Starks, and he read perfectly the play
- 3:10:03that Monty Jumler was trying to run and stepped right in front of him and took it back for a touchdown.
- 3:10:07Lewis straight ahead for a couple of yards.
- 3:10:10Six minutes left in the game.
- 3:10:11Baltimore on top, 31 to 7.
- 3:10:14The Ravens who were named after one of Edgar Allen Poe's or his most famous book, The Raven.
- 3:10:22Well, you know, you were talking about how it was going to be a long ride back to the mental lands for the Giants,
- 3:10:26and unfortunately for myself and my teammates in Cincinnati and Super Bowl XXIII, we lost the game.
- 3:10:32It takes you months to get over this, and I'm sure Terry Collins is going to have nightmares.
- 3:10:38He'll sleep for about 45 minutes, wake up, sleep for about 45 minutes, wake up again,
- 3:10:43and that's going to go on for a couple of weeks.
- 3:10:45Stover for a 35-yard field goal try, and he delivers it, so the Ravens increase their lead to 34 to 7.
- 3:10:53With 5.28 left in the game, a break in the action.
- 3:10:56You're listening to exclusive coverage of Super Bowl XXXV on Westwood 1.
- 3:11:06What a play!
- 3:11:07Well, if you like that, you'll love this play from Planters.

- 3:11:19No, it's Planters.
- 3:11:20Get the nuts together for the big game.
- 3:11:21Look under the labels of specially marked Planters nuts for your chance to win instantly.

- 3:11:32On the winning, we're about one and five million.
- 3:11:33The all-new Dodge Grand Caravan has the most available horsepower of any minivan you can buy.
- 3:11:39Now, obviously, you're not about to drive your caravan like a Viper,
- 3:11:43so why should you care how much power a minivan has?
- 3:11:46Oh, if, say, you'd like to merge onto the highway or pass a truck,
- 3:11:51and with available all-wheel drive, the caravan can also make quick work of the elements.
- 3:11:56The all-new Dodge Caravan.
- 3:11:58Powerfully, grippingly different.
- 3:12:02Ravens following the field goal by Stover.
- 3:12:06Now Stover to kick it off.
- 3:12:08Heading over to the far sideline.
- 3:12:11And it is picked up by Demon Washington at the 5.
- 3:12:14Running up the rank to the 20.
- 3:12:16And gets spilled at about the 23-yard line.
- 3:12:18Jamal Lewis with 101 rushing yards.
- 3:12:21The second best by a rookie running back in a Superball.
- 3:12:26Tim Smith in 1988.
- 3:12:29Ran for then a Superball record.
- 3:12:31200 and still is.
- 3:12:32He's 212 yards.
- 3:12:35Never to be heard from again.
- 3:12:37204 yards, I stand correct.
- 3:12:39No, you actually used six corrective.
- 3:12:41Yes, I do.
- 3:12:4222 carries, by the way, for Smith that day for 204 yards.
- 3:12:44What a day he had.
- 3:12:49So the Giants who have turned it over five times.
- 3:12:53Hollins goes out of a shotgun formation.
- 3:12:55Takes the direction, looks to the right and throws.
- 3:12:58A low ball that is incomplete.
- 3:13:00Well, here the Giants now, you look at what has happened to them today.
- 3:13:05Here is a team that was 7-4 in October.
- 3:13:08And then of course Jim Fossil after losing back-to-back to St. Louis and Detroit.
- 3:13:12Said, I guarantee we're going to the playoffs and that served to motivate his team apparently.
- 3:13:16They started to unite as a football team.
- 3:13:19And they have gone this far.
- 3:13:20They got the number one seed in the AFC.
- 3:13:22They have succumbed to an outstanding defensive performance by Baltimore.
- 3:13:27Well, I think you know what happens when you play against a defense like this is a quarterback,
- 3:13:30you speed up your decision making and Terry never really got a chance to settle down.
- 3:13:34Hollins throws it on the run and the ball goes through the hands of Mike Hilliard.
- 3:13:38Hilliard had the big game two weeks ago against Minnesota with 10 receptions.
- 3:13:42And he has been held in check today by the Baltimore secondary.
- 3:13:45Everybody has been held in check.
- 3:13:47Yeah, we talked about that at the start.
- 3:13:48We knew this wasn't going to be the same kind of thing.
- 3:13:50Minnesota's defense just never showed up.
- 3:13:52This game here, you knew that this Raven defense was going to be tough.
- 3:13:57But again, he had opportunities and he never slowed himself down.
- 3:14:01He started eyeballing things.
- 3:14:03He just did not play well.
- 3:14:05Well, we said at the start of the game that how he handled pressure,
- 3:14:08which quarterback handled pressure the best would win.
- 3:14:10And Trent Dilfer made a couple of throws early.
- 3:14:14Really, his 10 points is all they needed.
- 3:14:17Hollins takes the snap, Chase dishes it off to Tiki Barber who has tripped up across the 25.
- 3:14:234.55 left in the ball game.
- 3:14:26The Ravens have already put this one away.
- 3:14:28They're ahead 34-7.
- 3:14:29A reminder to stay tuned for the Novell postgame report with Tommy Teig.
- 3:14:33He'll recap all the highlights.
- 3:14:34We'll hear from both locker rooms.
- 3:14:36It's coming up after the game.
- 3:14:37Bruxy by Novell, the power to change.
- 3:14:43Well, the will is a source of power that exists inside everyone.
- 3:14:46And today the will of the Ravens was just too much.
- 3:14:50I mean, they did what they had to do.
- 3:14:51Their defense just clamped down on the Giants early.
- 3:14:54So much for distractions.
- 3:14:56So much for distractions.
- 3:14:58That's a good point.
- 3:14:59Flag is down.
- 3:15:01Jermaine Lewis in the 45.
- 3:15:03Stopped to the 50 and then just dances out of bounds at the Giants 48-yard line.
- 3:15:07But there was a flag on the play.
- 3:15:10And all week long everybody was wondering, you know,
- 3:15:12were the distractions of the early press conferences of the Ravens, you know,
- 3:15:17infect their mind anyway and take them away from the game?
- 3:15:20Now, one thing about the Ravens defense that you can sense when you're around them and you see them.
- 3:15:25Hollins, they're in the kick.
- 3:15:27Number 21 of the receiving team, 10 yards, first down.
- 3:15:31No, Matt, I don't know if you sense this.
- 3:15:33I do certainly.
- 3:15:34The more turmoil it seems like the better they are, the more thuggery there is.
- 3:15:39You know what I'm saying?
- 3:15:40You know what happens?
- 3:15:41You know what happened?
- 3:15:42Oakland A's mentality.
- 3:15:43We were talking about this earlier in the day.
- 3:15:45Is all that talk and all that stuff, it only matters after the fact.
- 3:15:52And we talked about that just this afternoon when we were speaking to some of the affiliates.
- 3:15:55And now that the game's over,
- 3:15:58they had the 4-10 mark at 34-7 just say, you know what, they prepared themselves.
- 3:16:02They were ready.
- 3:16:03They were confident in all those things, you know, but the reality of it is it really doesn't matter until you play.
- 3:16:09That's exactly right. None of it matters.
- 3:16:10Tony Banks is now in to mop it up.
- 3:16:12The Trent Guilford and the Ravens and Priest Holmes in to running back.
- 3:16:16You tell they got a new running back, she's got a clean uniform.
- 3:16:19He takes the handoff, Hollins across the 30 to the 35-yard line.
- 3:16:22There have been three teams that have gone without an offensive touchdown in the Super Bowl most recently.
- 3:16:27You'd have to go back a way.
- 3:16:29Super Bowl IX, Pittsburgh beat Minnesota 16 to 6.
- 3:16:33They blocked putt recovery in the end zone.
- 3:16:37It was the only touchdown for Minnesota.
- 3:16:40Well, you know, the interesting thing in watching the way that the Ravens win games,
- 3:16:45I mean, this is the recipe for them the entire season,
- 3:16:48especially the last six or seven games where they just had enough offense to put some points on the board.
- 3:16:54And then their defenses clamped down and scored points for them as did their special teams.
- 3:16:59Priest Holmes running left, slowed up at about the 37-yard line.
- 3:17:04Well, you know, the Giants now that they have finished first in their division,
- 3:17:08the schedule is going to be harder next year.
- 3:17:10Brutal. Brutal. It's not going to be easy for them next year.
- 3:17:13The only good thing is that they're still in the NFC East.
- 3:17:16We have two teams, the Cowboys and the Cardinals, that seem like they're going to be in rebuilding phases again.
- 3:17:21But you know that Philadelphia is going to be good. They'll be good.
- 3:17:24Washington, you'd have to think who's going to, I mean, they have enough talent to be better than they were.
- 3:17:28It didn't work out this year, but you have to believe that they're going to be a team that they'll have to contend with.
- 3:17:37Kip Vickers is in the game at left guard for Baltimore.
- 3:17:42Spencer Fowlaw is in at left tackle for Jonathan Ogden.
- 3:17:47And Holmes is dragged down by Keith Hamilton in the backfield.
- 3:17:52So it's threeing out the Baltimore, but all they want this thing to do is get over with.
- 3:17:55Two and a half to play. The only thing better than a down to the wire Super Bowl is down to your modem highlights and exclusive photos of the game.

- 3:18:11You can say what you want about Trent Dover. And certainly I've had my opportunity to kind of pick him apart a little bit today because of some of the mis-throws.
- 3:18:20But, you know, how must he feel being in this stadium, in this city?
- 3:18:24And he is walking away, my friends, with one of those very rare pieces of jewelry, a Super Bowl ring that we all wish we could have had as we play this game as well.

- 3:20:4224-7 Baltimore. And the punting unit comes on. Richardson has had a very busy day with a high punt to Ike Hilliard. He's into the 25. Looking for a running room and dropped it about the 22-yard line.
- 3:20:58Tough day for the Giants, Matt. What do you think about that, Boomer? Well, I definitely think the Giants definitely should have run the 64-toss power trap and they probably would have had a much better day.
- 3:21:09Boomer, Boomer, your voice is changing. You're much prettier than Boomer, I might add. My daughter Danny. Yes, absolutely. 64-toss power trap? What are you, Hank Stram? Here we go, boys.
- 3:21:20Hit it with a smooch. She's matriculating down the field. There you go, dear. Very nice. See, I give her a little rope, she's going to hang me.
- 3:21:31Holland's on the draw to Tiki Barber. Right now her mother is dying downstairs. I had to have my moment, the Millen and the Sison children all had their moment. I felt a little depressed. Thank you very much.
- 3:21:44Thank you very much. Boomer, I don't think we have to look any further. I don't think we have to look any further for Matt's replacement to you.
- 3:21:51Let me just tell you something, when the game stinks, we'll just put anybody on it, it doesn't matter.
- 3:21:55Holland's flushed out of the pocket and hits Barber at the 30. And he has taken off his feet as he crosses the 30 by Corey Harris.
- 3:22:05Well, the Baltimore team is going to wind up winning their 11th straight game. I mean, that is getting the job done.
- 3:22:11Well, it was a fantastic year for the Baltimore Ravens. It was an excellent year by these New York Giants as well. It made it something few teams could do. They got to this game.
- 3:22:20Yeah, they fell apart a little bit here, but they really did have themselves an excellent year.
- 3:22:24Collins throws out to the right and the catch is made by Pete Mitchell. His first catch of the ball game. Pete Mitchell was voted the sexiest man in the Super Bowl this year.
- 3:22:34And then Tony Saragusta said, you know, they've never seen me with the proper clothing on. You know, he's going to be a mouthful after this game.
- 3:22:43How about one MVP? How about Shannon Sharp? I don't mean for the MVP, I mean for the mouth of the year award.
- 3:22:50Collins off a direct snap, throws it over the middle, it is kicked in the air and nearly picked off by Brad Jackson.
- 3:22:58He had one thought in his mind, make the interception and go for touchdown because there was nobody in his way.
- 3:23:05Brian Billich is going to win a Super Bowl. He was criticized earlier in the week for his stance on the whole Ray Lewis situation.
- 3:23:13But one cannot take away from what the Ravens have accomplished this year. And Ray Lewis apparently was called the MVP. I think I heard right.
- 3:23:22They called Ray Lewis the MVP. I disagree with that. I disagree with it too. Sam Adams played more effectively up front than Ray Lewis.
- 3:23:33Collins throws after the right and is nearly picked off on the secondary by Dwayne Stark. 16 seconds left in the game. 34-7 Baltimore.
- 3:23:41Largest margin of victory since Dallas Pete Buffalo. 52-17 in Super Bowl 27.
- 3:23:47And our colleague James Lofton played in that one of the three Super Bowls. James played in, Dockery played in Super Bowl 3, Mullen played in four of them.
- 3:23:56Umura Siasa in Super Bowl 23. So between the five of us we have played in nine Super Bowls.
- 3:24:02Well, Ray Lewis is the defensive MVP. Between the five of us we have played in nine Super Bowls. I heard it. He heard it, he ignored it, move on.
- 3:24:11You know, if Ray Lewis is the defensive MVP, he's the sixth defensive MVP. There he is. Sixth defensive MVP.
- 3:24:20Boy, this guy comes full Chuck Howey, Jake Scott, Randy White, Richard Dent, and Larry Brown. And now Ed Ray Lewis.
- 3:24:28And remember this time last year Ray Lewis found himself in an awful lot of trouble down in Atlanta.
- 3:24:34A double murder charge and he fought his way back. This basically... Well, there's no question he's a great player.
- 3:24:41I will never question him as a player on the football field without... the best. One of the best, and could be one of the best ever.
- 3:24:49If he stays over. On the carry, I'm not sure he's got enough. Doesn't make any difference.
- 3:24:54Dover boys, this game is... they still show three seconds on the clock. They haven't run it off yet, but they should.
- 3:24:59This one has been over for a while. Now they do. 34-7 Baltimore. And a fitting end for a game where you try to run the ball and get a first down and you can't even do that.
- 3:25:09The Raven defense shows itself again. I wonder the total yards were for today for the New York Giants and also for the Baltimore Ravens because I'm...
- 3:25:20I guarantee their boats are under 300 yards, which is excellent defense.
- 3:25:25Well, it was what the... Art Modell got himself a Super Bowl win finally.
- 3:25:31Well, it's not going to be a popular decision in Cleveland. No, it's not. It may not be.
- 3:25:36But he is a hero in Baltimore. You know, when the Colts left, when the Earths A's moved to Colts, that was a city that had a very proud history that has now found themselves with a Super Bowl.
- 3:25:49And Brian Doik and these guys deserve a lot of credit. Total yards for both ones, 245. And for the New York Giants, 146. Brutal.
- 3:25:58Art Modell in his 40th year in the National Football League. His first Super Bowl appearance.
- 3:26:05The 1964 Cleveland Browns, by the way, beat Baltimore into the World Championship. That's before they called it Super Bowl, obviously.
- 3:26:12But the Marra family, they've been involved in the NFL since 1925. Let's go down with one of the winners. And James lost it. James?
- 3:26:20Guys, I'm with Kodri Ishmael, one of the star receivers for the Ravens. Everybody talked about defense, but it looks like you guys played some pretty good offense today.
- 3:26:28Man, we wanted to go out there and show them all we got to do is go out there and play our style. And we know we can come up with some points. We know we can help our team win.
- 3:26:35All that nonsense about our defense only. We all had to do was just take a pose and stay together as a team, and that's what we did.
- 3:26:42Now, early in the ballgame, we got to talk to Rondé Barber, Tiki's twin brother. Is your brother here today?
- 3:26:47My brother's here today. I had a chance to talk with him earlier on before the game, and he just encouraged me. And it's a great, great feeling.
- 3:26:54Now the Ishmael family not only has a national championship from the NCAA, but we also have a world championship from the NFL.
- 3:27:01So which finger are you going to put that thing on? I'm debating. I know I have some crooked fingers. I'm catching some tough passes, but I'm debating on whether or not I want to put it on my ring finger, on my right hand, on my middle finger, on my right hand. I don't know. We'll have to see.
- 3:27:14Wherever you put it, it's going to look awfully good. John Dockery, you know a little bit about Super Bowl rings.
- 3:27:19Yes, I do know a little bit about Super Bowl rings. I'm with the man who gets his first Super Bowl ring after 14 years Rod Woodson watched his life.
- 3:27:27Oh, it's a wonderful feeling. You know, it's hard to put it into words. You know, you're the best team in the National Football League this year. Everything, all your goals you tried to set at the beginning of the football season, they got accomplished.
- 3:27:39I mean, you just can't say enough. I mean, it hasn't set in yet. I think it's going to be a couple days before it all sets in.
- 3:27:45What turned this season around? Was it the change of quarterback in mid-year? I think a little everything, you know. I think the change of quarterback.
- 3:27:52I think fighting through the three game losing streak that we had, you know, fighting through the 20-something quarters our offense had an outscoring. We stuck together. We never pulled apart.
- 3:28:02This is the ultimate team sport and we played a good football team. It was a good game today. What makes this defense so good? Speed, belief. We have a belief that we can shut anybody out.
- 3:28:12We went out here and I think they did score on a defense. I mean, it's 34 to 7. We played well. I mean, Marv done a wonderful job. But we got to, with the coaching staff and all the good players we have on the football team, fire around having some fun. Only good things can happen.
- 3:28:26Rod Woodson, congratulations. James Lupton, I'm here with Trent Dilford. Trent, you came out swinging right in the first half. A lot of passes. Touchdown passes to Stokely early. How does it feel now?
- 3:28:37I don't know. I've never felt anything this good. You know, we expected to do this. But, you know, I think the most gratifying thing is looking before the game in the eyes of my teammates in the locker room and then looking back.
- 3:28:53And we just knew. We knew we were the best football team in football. We knew we were a group of guys that would dive for one another. And I think that's what it's all about.
- 3:29:03You and I talked before the ball game. You had been released by the Buccaneers in March. Didn't know what your future was going to hold. Could you have imagined a better script?
- 3:29:12No, but you know, I just the last month I've meditated on a verse in the Bible. Everything's possible for him who believes. And I really thank God that he has developed character in me through the hard times. Every morning I wake up and I say, God, thank you that life's difficult sometimes.
- 3:29:27Now you went into the locker room with an injury. Were you going to let a little pinky keep you out of the Super Bowl? No, no, I told them I didn't want to go off, but they thought I broke my hand. So they're making me get an x-ray. I was so mad. But at the same time, you got to let the people know what they're doing. Do it.
- 3:29:42Trent Dilfer. How does it sound? Trent Dilfer, Super Bowl champion. I don't know. I can't even. I can't comprehend it right now.
- 3:29:51Don Dockery, a lot going on up here. I don't know who you got on the other side, but you take it away. I got one of his favorite targets. Trent's favorite target. Shannon Sharp. Shannon, can you describe the emotion?
- 3:30:01It feels great. You know, all the experts had all the why we're going to lose the ball game. But you know what? I say we have the best defense ever assembled. They displayed it today. Now there's no doubt in anybody's mind. That is the best 11 guys ever assembled.
- 3:30:16Whoa. Third Super Bowl in four years to you. Can you compare them? Describe it? No, I can't compare them because the first one was great. But this one, I think this one's better because no one gave us a chance. We came out of nowhere.
- 3:30:27The only people that believed was those people in the locker room. And we stuck together, no animosity. We don't care who gets the credit. All we care about is wins. I think we won today.
- 3:30:36Congratulations, Shannon Sharp. Now back upstairs. All right, Doc. Well, let's join the celebration on the field. Before we do that, join Commissioner Paul Tagliabue.
- 3:30:47Matt, you've been part of four Super Bowl champions. And you know what it takes to dedicate yourself for a season. And before we do that, let's go down to the Commissioner Paul Tagliabue as he presents the Vince Lombardi Trophy to Art Modell.
- 3:31:01We congratulate you. We congratulate all of your players and Coach Billiken and his staff, your whole organization for bringing this Super Bowl championship back to Baltimore and to Baltimore's great fans for the first time in three decades. Congratulations.
- 3:31:26Commissioner, thank you very much. To the people in Baltimore City, to the people in Baltimore County, and to the state of Maryland, this belongs to you.
- 3:31:47Mr. Modell, for you, I know this is the completion of a dream. For the people who have followed your franchise for 40 years from Cleveland and to Baltimore, what do you have to say to them all?
- 3:31:58I'm grateful to so many people. I want to thank my family, my son David, my son John, Ryan Billik, the best coach in the National Football League, Ozzie Newsom. And wait a second, wait a second. And my boss, Pat Modell.
- 3:32:17Can I have a little can, please? Congratulations, Art. Congratulations. Let me bring in Brian Billik. This is an amazing thing. In just your second year as the head coach in Baltimore, you're bringing the title back to Maryland. How did you do it?
- 3:32:32Well, I'll tell you what. I've been at this profession a while, but these guys here taught me, taught me this year for the first time in 25 years in business about what really teamwork is. And it's because of these guys right here.
- 3:32:45Your team had a certain swagger all week. We could see it here. And on the field today, again, you just shut down the Giants, 4-5 turnovers. Tell me, does this validate your defense maybe as the best in the history of the National Football League?
- 3:33:00I'm biased, but who cares? Someone tell me they're not. I'll argue it to the death.
- 3:33:05Congratulations.
- 3:33:06Brian. And here, ladies and gentlemen, is the most valuable player of Super Bowl 35, voted on by... All right, let's go to John Dockery.
- 3:33:15Thank you, Art. And with Jermaine Lewis and Jermaine, congratulations. What does a win like this mean to the Baltimore Ravens?
- 3:33:21I mean, it's great. All our hard work is paying off for us. You know, we're a championship team now. We can just hold this feeling forever. We just work hard and good things happen.
- 3:33:33What a nice scene with your little son on your shoulders here. I know you've been through some rough times. Does this help to make up a little bit?
- 3:33:39Oh, definitely. I mean, this is just a wonderful end to the year and everything just turning out good for us. And I'm just appreciative of all the things that God has given me.
- 3:33:49Did the team think they could get one on the return today? Did you think so?
- 3:33:52I thought so. I was confident that I could get some. I knew all I had to do was just stay on my feet and I would score.
- 3:33:59Congratulations. James Lofton, over to you. I'm standing next to Marvin Lewis, who is watching his premier player, Ray Lewis, get interviewed as the Super Bowl MVP.
- 3:34:08And I won't ask you any questions about your future because I think today is the day that you need to enjoy, right?
- 3:34:13That's right. No question. All the credit goes to the defensive players, the defensive coaches, just been outstanding.
- 3:34:22And as you see, they want to show people how good they are. And there's no question today they came out to play with that passion and set a standard they had all year. And this is the outcome.
- 3:34:34I mean, could you imagine that you would actually shut them out offensively after the performance that the Giants had against the Vikings?
- 3:34:41Well, you know, our guys are awful good and we set a tempo like nobody else. And the only thing I wanted to see different was what's in it.
- 3:34:52Marvin Lewis has just escorted away from me, lifted up on his shoulders by Webster and Michael McCrary, John Dockery, coach of the year, obviously on the defensive side of the ball.
- 3:35:03A lot of joy here with the Baltimore Ravens and Hunter Kyle Richardson's with me. And what a game for you today. Was that part of the game plan?
- 3:35:11You know, it's all the hype that was going into this game and how they're going to bring it down on me and Brad, the other punter.
- 3:35:19And, you know, it kind of turned that way because we both had a lot of attempts, but everybody made a lot of great plays.
- 3:35:25And once again, we just did it as a team, you know, like we've been doing it for a long time all year. And, you know, I just can't explain it right now.
- 3:35:32You know, Shannon Sharpe said, what you want is the confetti coming down on your head. It's unbelievable. It's unbelievable right now.
- 3:35:38Was there a moment in this season in this game that turned it all around? Something maybe Brian Billocks said or somebody else said?
- 3:35:45Brian's been awesome all year and it's always never been a doubt. You know, with the drought and everything, he kept saying, you know, we're going to be the playoffs.
- 3:35:53Don't even worry about it. You know, nobody hesitated. Nobody doubted on our team. You know, everybody else did, but we didn't.
- 3:35:58And maybe when we turned the corner down in Tennessee, maybe that was it. You know, the first game we won down there in Tennessee, that could have been it.
- 3:36:06But who knows, you know? I mean, this is a team of team. You know, we win as a team. That's the way it is. I can't explain it.
- 3:36:14Kyle Richardson, you certainly won as a team today. Congratulations. Howard, up to you.
- 3:36:18All right, Doc. Well, 30 years ago, the Colts beat the Cowboys 16-13 and it was Jim O'Brien who delivered the winning field goal five seconds left in the contest.
- 3:36:28As then the Baltimore Colts beat the Dallas Cowboys by three. This Baltimore Raven team didn't want it to be this close and their special teams and their defense just dominated the Giants 34-7.
