- 1:49[SPEAKER_01]: I know what's happening Friday Oh, and I know I know who she sent invites out to.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_02]: I think I am if I'm not mistaken.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry talking.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_02]: No, I'm talking my brain is scrambled from this layoff.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_02]: So days and times and stuff like that.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_02]: I do actually have to go up to shoot.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_02]: I might actually
- 2:09[SPEAKER_02]: I could possibly stay up there on Friday because I have to get some bread flour.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, okay.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_02]: This like mill up there by Burlington.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah, yep.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: We talked about it before on the pot.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_01]: It's like the like the super nice, like kind of.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's like non-sticky.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_02]: It's like 65 bucks in the last us for like the rest of the year.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_02]: Now you're talking for bread good stuff.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_02]: And we want to go back in there until.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_02]: Until.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, yes, all right little little birthday get together.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that we're doing down at the lounge I'm looking forward to that.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_01]: That's gonna be a lot of fun.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, some some close acquaintances some uh The all the alisters now You know, we're wait to see if it is still ever know you never know
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_01]: Well, if you can make it, it'll be good to see you.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: Well, well, Jack, here's the thing.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_01]: And listeners, like we don't, this is not an easy up to do.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: We've got to talk about some
- 3:17[SPEAKER_01]: really really rough stuff today.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_01]: Didn't really feel like it would be very good to just going to go into the instant Graham segment and then talk about what we got to talk about today.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_01]: So today is going to kind of be a downer of an app for sure, but as
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: As we're recording this, so we record on Mondays, normally, this morning, a news broke of a friend of Jack and I's friend of the podcast, he's been on the podcast as a guest before a news broke of a confession letter that went out from Dr. Sam Renahan.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: in which he confessed an adulterous relationship with a woman other than his wife which I don't understand why everyone adds that.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know why I added it like that's what adulterie is right.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I read it, and then we can talk about it.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_01]: So this came out this morning, as of the time of this recording, November 17th, 2025.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's titled, A Letter of Confession.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_01]: And this went out on his sub-stack under the pseudonym, Petty France.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_01]: If you follow Petty France on Twitter, and you get really obscure Baptist historical tweets, that's Sam, that's Sam.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_01]: It's not it's not too long.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just going to I'll I'll read read what he put here and then Yeah, we can get into it just a little bit but this what he says he titled it a letter of confession And he says I have sinned in an exceedingly wicked way This past week it was discovered that I have committed adultery
- 5:18[SPEAKER_01]: the Lord whose spirit yearns jealousy for his people, gyms for five, the Lord who is an avenger to those to these things exposed my sin, to my great shame, I did not bring it to light.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_01]: The proverb is true, he who is often reproved, yet stiffens his neck will suddenly be broken beyond healing.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_01]: And God warns, be sure that your sin will find you out.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_01]: God has uncovered my stiff neck sin because, as his word says, everyone who is arrogant in his heart as an abomination to the Lord, be assured he will not go unpunished.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_01]: That's proper.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_01]: 16-5.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_01]: As a minister, I should have set an example in holiness, but my unholyness, I have made myself unfruitful and ineffective, a warning and an example never to be imitated.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_01]: 2 Peter 2 describes in strong and vivid detail gods of your judgment upon teachers who sin against his church.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_01]: 2 Peter 2, 17 says for them the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_01]: What is at stake is no less than the eternal destiny of my very soul.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_01]: Such clear warning should have deterred me from my sin in the first place.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: And for the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, fools despise wisdom and instruction.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_01]: While I acted in hard-hearted rebellion, God who is a faithful father in His merciful kindness, stopped me in my sin, that I might escape it, and thus find safety for my soul in Jesus Christ.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_01]: I am deeply ashamed of my sin, all sin deserves damnation, but some sins are far worse than others, and mine is exceedingly wicked.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_01]: the only way that I can honor and glorify God and the only way that I can do anything to help those whom I have hurt is through the grace of repentance.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: The Scriptures say by steadfast love and faithfulness and equity is a tone for, and by the fear of the Lord at one turns away from evil.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, er, no, excuse me, sorry, I can only back up.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_01]: He says, I, I do fear the Lord.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_01]: And by his grace and help, I will show steadfast love and faithfulness to God to my wife and to Christ's church.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_01]: I must give to Jesus in account of my ministry, Hebrews 1317, what a terrible account it is.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_01]: What is required of a steward that he is found faithful, first Corinthians 4 2.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_01]: And by my unfaithfulness, I have brought dishonor and disgrace upon my master's name, upon my office, upon my family, upon my church, and upon others.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_01]: My one and only hope is that the precious blood and perfect righteousness of Jesus Christ who loved me and gave Himself for me, and promises to forgive my iniquity, and remember my transgression no more.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_01]: I have read a letter of confession to my church, resigned from the office of pastor and submitted myself to the judgment and discipline of the church.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: The consequences and effects of my sin will be far reaching.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_01]: The fault is entirety mine.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_01]: and it grieves my heart that many will suffer for my sin.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_01]: I have confessed my sin to the various institutions and organizations with which I was affiliated that their good names may not be celleted by my sin.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_01]: I have also unpublished my self-published theological works.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_01]: I thank God that my wife has graciously forgiven me.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_01]: praise the Lord for that, though.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_01]: Ooh, I thank God that my wife has graciously forgiven me.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_01]: I have humbled myself before God as a wicked sinner, praying that he would lift me up.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_01]: And now I humbled myself before a broader audience asking only that you forgive me my hypocrisy and give glory to the good shepherd who will never leave or forsake his flock.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_01]: Though I will never hear my master say to me, well done, good and faithful servant as a minister.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yet I pray by his mercy and grace that I will hear him say these words to me as an repentant sheep.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_01]: Sam, you're in a hand.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_01]: That's tough.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's not easy.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_02]: I will say this though, I think this is the letter that we want from all men that we've seen in the past to have fallen this way.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_02]: And when this letter happens, I feel like in some sense, even though it's tough and we lament over this.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_02]: It's the needed thing that we, I think the church yearns for as well, too, to actually like be a man.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_02]: Step up and don't be a coward about this, own up to it.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_02]: And start this process of being accountable for this sin that we don't, I don't know the necessary extent of it, but he certainly does.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_02]: That's the part that I feel like we wanted from Artizardia, the part that we wanted from
- 11:10[SPEAKER_02]: Gosh, what's even his name anymore?
- 11:12[SPEAKER_02]: I can't even remember it.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_02]: Master Seminary Guy.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_02]: It's escaping me.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, oh, Steve Lawson.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yep, Steve Lawson.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_02]: Countless others.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_02]: We wanted this type of repentance letter from them.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, not pulling any punches, putting the same scripture in effect towards themselves.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_02]: and knowing that this is a weighty and lamenting thing that they have done.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, I think that's that's some takeaways that I find from his letter.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_02]: So I mean, in one sense, like shame on you, Sam ran a hand, but on the other sense, to a certain extent, to a certain extent, God be praised that the spirit has led you to repentance.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_01]: And you are owning this up, so it's you kind of have to live in that tension so you do and I think situations like this, you know, I think the first thing that it should cause us is grief.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_01]: I think too many jump to vitriol or anger and don't give time.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_01]: I think good and biblical time to grieve the sin, right?
- 12:33[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we said the same, I don't want to just pull punches because Sam was a friend.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_01]: He was like, this grieves the Holy Spirit.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_01]: It's a stain on, you know, everything Sam said.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's a stain on the gospel.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's a stain on the church.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_01]: His life will never be the same.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_01]: The wife of his wife and children will never be the same.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_01]: I can't imagine the pain that his church is going through right now upon hearing this news.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's horrible.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_01]: Sin always has a blast rate is and the thing that's the hardest thing is that like we never think through the effects of our sin while we're engaging in them.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_01]: Right, and that's the, that's the, that's the insidious thing about our flesh is that it will put all of the pleasure and all of the instant gratification, all the excitement in front of your face and it hides the knife that is behind it and upon engaging in that pleasure again and again and again and again that knife gets closer and closer and closer and pretty soon.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_01]: the, you know, the newspaper is, you know, pulled away and the knife is sunk deep and at that point it's too late and that's the very sobering thing that I think first and foremost we should take away from these things is that, you know, I mean.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_01]: Again, I don't want to, I don't want to, you know,
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: I, sin is sin, right, and, and, and I, and I can see even in my own flesh wanting to be softer for a friend than I was with, with someone like Steve Lawson, right, sin is sin, and, and, and, and it, and it, and, and, and, and it, it causes me grief and it causes me anger, uh, uh,
- 14:29[SPEAKER_01]: Because like you you have the choice not to cheat on your wife.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_01]: Like we said that with Steve Lawson like that's an act that's a choice that you make.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, right, and you chose to do the opposite of that.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and And it's so hard to see.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_01]: and it's such a grievous thing to see.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_01]: And it hurts.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_01]: And it's always hurts more when it's closer to you, right?
- 15:04[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's probably a kind of what I'm feeling, is that as much closer to Sam, and in the same circles as Sam, right?
- 15:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the reform-baptist, confessional, particular-baptist circles, like it's a small world.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, everyone knows everyone like Josh and I going to 2020 doc and Eva like Sam was there.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, I'm doing such a kind of where our relationship started.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_01]: I met Sam like Sam right and like I said, he's been a I think it was episode one fifth like like episode one 50.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was we talked about we talked about confessionalism.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_01]: Like he was a guest on on the reformatory and it was a great episode and I loved having him and
- 15:45[SPEAKER_01]: Man it just it just hurts it hurts to see and we should grieve that we should grieve that right and and not make excuses for it right because that's I think another extreme that people can go to is they'll they'll make excuses for the behavior or
- 16:03[SPEAKER_01]: or there'll be less lenient, or there'll be more lenient on someone that's of their camp versus someone that's not.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_01]: We have to be careful.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_01]: Sin is sin.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_01]: Doesn't matter who's committing it.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's the same offense against the same God.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_01]: And it's just as grievous, whether you know, someone you agree with, engaged in it versus someone you disagree with, engaged with it.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_01]: And we should treat them the same way.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_01]: It hurts that, and I think this is a warning to us all.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_01]: And I think Sam did a good job in this repentance letter, this confession letter that he wrote.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I do want to give some credit where credit is due.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_01]: This is among the better if not the best letter of confession repentance that I've read.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_01]: And unfortunately, I've read quite a few.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, he confesses in here that the sin was found out that it was not, it was not confessed.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_01]: And that should be a warning to us, uh, all of us, right?
- 17:14[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's a, it's a, it's a pithiverse that I think we often quote to ourselves and quote to other people out years and we'll find you're out.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_01]: Your sin will find you out.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's been adopted a by culture, even in film and TV shows, right?
- 17:27[SPEAKER_01]: It's in as found to him out, right?
- 17:29[SPEAKER_01]: But it's true.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_01]: The Lord will not be mocked, and especially if you are in a position of leadership within a local church where you have been tasked by God to care for, to shepherd, to guide, lead, and protect the flock.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_01]: If you think that you can be in that position, while in the same time, engaging in grievous sin, unrepentant, habitual sin, it is a matter of time before the Lord's patience
- 18:01[SPEAKER_01]: is gone.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_01]: And he reveals it and exposes it himself.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_01]: Like, if you are listening to this right now, and you, and you know the sins that you are engaged in.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_01]: If you are not actively bringing those to life, speaking the gospel into them, repenting of them, finding accountability for them, it's a matter of time.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_01]: The Lord will expose them, and it's going to be worse for you when He exposes them versus if you bring them to the cross.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_01]: And this, that should be a warning to us that, you know, again, I don't know the circumstances of what happened.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_01]: I don't need to know the circumstances of what happened.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_01]: But apparently, it, it, it got brought to light somehow, whether it was a member, whether it was an elder, whether it was the other woman, whether it was his wife, somebody found out and Sam was confronted.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_01]: Like, the Lord will not be mocked.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_01]: And the Lord is very jealous for His sheep.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_01]: And He will not stand for disqualified men to be in the pen with His sheep leading and guiding them very long.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_01]: And that's sobering, Jack.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_01]: That's sobering, and that hurts.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_01]: And it should be a warning to us.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's, you know, this is this is something that we've, I think Josh and I are, the dis, like having men who are disqualified has come up more than often for Josh and I in the Northwests, which sometimes you'll only find a couple people.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe you'll find one pastor who becomes,
- 19:45[SPEAKER_02]: disqualified because of moral failing.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_02]: I think Josh and I have had at least a good few that we have seen fall by the wayside.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_01]: I've got to say it feels like a disproportionate amount.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know, you know what I'm saying?
- 20:01[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, maybe it's just the lot that the Lord has called me too, but
- 20:04[SPEAKER_01]: like this is like this is like another and again like salmon I weren't close but we were friends like I considered salmon friend like he I brought questions and went to him for guidance and things like that like like it it's a growing list of guys that I considered my friends guys I looked up to guys I learned from
- 20:24[SPEAKER_01]: that they keep cheating on their wives or they have another type of moral failing and man it's discouraging.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, and I think that's, um, I think this is growing a lot to like, I want, I don't, I don't want to take the, the foot off the pedal on this, like we need to, if they're coming out of Reformation month, if there's anything that we need to perform in the church, it is.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_02]: are moral failing as men to not be self-controlled when it comes to sexual immorality to be quite honest.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_02]: Like sexual immorality is running rampant.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_02]: through a lot of churches in North America.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_02]: And I'll leave that, but like bad, sexually, I'm talking like being arrested for child pornography, being arrested for numerous other things, and people aren't taking accountability for it, or other people are just
- 21:45[SPEAKER_02]: And we can't do that.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_02]: We can't do that anymore.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_02]: Like people need to, if, if, if the, if the shoe fits, then people need to be held accountable for crimes.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_02]: People need to be held accountable for sins like this.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_02]: And it's, it's, it's coming up way more than often than I'm seeing across the board.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, it's concerning.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_01]: it is concerning and i think we've kind of got to get our head out of the sand and and start i think the tendency at least for me and i'm not saying i'm not i'm not speaking for jackar i'm saying at least for me the tendency is to often think of these things as as happening primarily like in the
- 22:27[SPEAKER_01]: in the mega churches right in the more charismatic circles where there's a lot of money being you know handed over you know it's it's it's everywhere this is in our backyard yeah this is like as specific as it gets yeah like reformed a particular 1689 baptists like
- 22:53[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't get any closer than this, this is in our home, you know, I mean there's a news broke of another reformed 1689 pastor down in Oregon or Idaho
- 23:08[SPEAKER_02]: You told me about that too.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, which was not for a whole bunch of C.P.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_01]: on his like AI C.P.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_01]: on his that he was distributing 1689 Reform Baptist pastor like I often think that that one of the one one of the dangers
- 23:28[SPEAKER_01]: of holding to, I don't even want to say it's a danger, it's not a danger because it has nothing to do with a confession and everything to do with us.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_01]: Don't think that the confession or being confessional is enough safeguard to keep you from sin.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_01]: Like I think we can often look at, look at like, well we're 1689, like our, we have thicker armor.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I'm saying?
- 23:53[SPEAKER_01]: We have, your armor is as thick as your conviction.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_01]: Your armor is as thick as your conviction.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_01]: And if you compromise on that conviction, then you will fall.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_01]: And we have to be so careful.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_01]: Like Satan knows you better than you know yourself.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_01]: Your flesh is so insidious.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_01]: Like we need to have our heads on a swivel men because we live in a culture where it is so easy for our flesh to entrap us and to cause us to go somewhere to do something to look at something to engage in something that we have absolutely no business doing.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, first Timothy chapter four, verse 16, keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching persist in this for by doing so you will save both yourself and your heroes.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_01]: we need to keep such a watch on our self to know our flesh will do anything that it can to cause us to trip and stumble and to fall like we need safe guards to be placed in our lives.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_01]: and we need to be willing to put those in.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_01]: We can't afford to think that we're strong enough that our conviction won't be tested, won't be brought down.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_01]: We need to not have confidence in who we are and our capability, because we
- 25:51[SPEAKER_01]: We don't have it, only through the strength of Christ and the gospel, do we stand?
- 25:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_01]: But it doesn't mean that you just, you know, say your Hail Mary's or whatever before you leave the house and you're good to go, like you, you need to take some responsibility.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_01]: You need to set some some some guardrails and some some walls around yourself.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_01]: Not to not to not so much like, you know, I'm walking in the world.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to be, I don't all these people are trying to tempt me.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_01]: No, it's your flesh, make no mistake.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_01]: Your flesh is the deadliest thing that you will face this side of heaven and it's living within you.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, there's temptations.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, the world is an issue.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, Satan is roaming around like a roaring lion, make no mistake.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_01]: The three enemies of the Christian, Satan, the world and your flesh.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_01]: The flesh is the worst one.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_01]: always.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_01]: No one falls into sin, simply because Satan presented it and said, okay, here you go, right?
- 26:54[SPEAKER_01]: No, Satan forces no one to sin.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_01]: He's never forced one person to sin.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_01]: He creates an opportunity.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_01]: He he he he he he he he lies and our flesh takes over and does
- 27:12[SPEAKER_01]: We need to we need to we need safeguards man and accountability guys that speaking to our lives and help us because this this is this is what happens people get hurt so many people get hurt it's not worth it
- 27:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think to just, you know what you said, Josh, like self, self control is like such like the I think so many people I think online will talk about how those people need to control themselves because you're making other people send.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_02]: And yet, the onus is on the person saying that stuff to the other people group that you should do this or do that because you're making me send it's like, guys, it's like you, you have the ability and in of yourself by the power of the Holy Spirit if you're a believer to control yourself.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_02]: So just I'm just sick of hearing stuff online about a women are tempting me this way and tempting me that way with how they look and how they appear.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_02]: It's like bro like you're doing that all by yourself like you're making it harder by doing it all by yourself because you're not self-controlled and I can just and I can see it by your post.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_02]: So, I think that that's the bigger issue is that even in this reformed world, this whole, like men are playing the victim.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_02]: like oh my gosh look look at this like I'm such a victim of you know these people and they're sin it's like dude you are not taking accountability to pray about self-control like how about you start with that first
- 29:03[SPEAKER_01]: Well, because at the end of the day, like I mean, we can be like Adam and point to Eve all we want, say, you know, it's this woman, right, that you ate the fruit, dude.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you didn't do anything.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_01]: You took it, you ate it.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_01]: She didn't force for you to do you, right?
- 29:20[SPEAKER_01]: They didn't force you to engage in that sin.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_01]: You're choosing to do it.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_01]: You can blame, you can blame the, you know, the
- 29:34[SPEAKER_01]: is what shows it.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_01]: And we have to not assume that the sins that we keep hidden are going to remain hidden.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_01]: Don't keep your sin on the leash.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_01]: Don't don't keep it chained up in the basement and you know, when you feel, when you feel like it, you know, when you feel the urge, when you feel when you feel like feeding it a little, you know, we're just, we're just going to keep it alive.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we're not going to let it.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to let it loose.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_01]: We're just going to keep it alive.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's how a lot of people treat sin.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_01]: But what they don't understand is that that is growing into a monster in that basement.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_01]: And pretty soon, the basement's too small.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_01]: And it's going to get out.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_01]: And all of a sudden, now you have an uncontrollable issue.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_01]: that has instead of being killed the way that it should have been been allowed to grow and defester.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_01]: And your sin will find you out.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_01]: That is a promise from the scriptures.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_01]: We have to remember that.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_01]: But I will say to maybe end on on a more encouraging note,
- 30:47[SPEAKER_01]: I want to applaud Sam's wife and the strength that I know that took to forgive him.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_01]: That is an extremely difficult thing to do.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_01]: I've seen, you know, marriages between Christians and because of that.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_01]: And the fact that she has chosen to forgive Sam and to extend to him the gospel to show him Christ is amazing.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_01]: And I love that.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_01]: I love seeing her strength in that her commitment to showing Christ even when Christ is not shown.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_01]: And I pray that the Lord will heal that marriage.
- 31:39[SPEAKER_01]: and that he will heal the relationship and he will bring restoration to them and pray for his church.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'm thankful that Sam and his letter acknowledged his sin does not affect just him.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_01]: That's encouraging to me.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_01]: And I truly hope that beauty will be brought from these ashes and that
- 32:06[SPEAKER_01]: You know, when Sam is old, he can look back and see how, yes, grievous the sin was, but how the Lord can bring beauty even from our mistakes.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_01]: We, we see that throughout Scripture.
- 32:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 32:21[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_01]: What we meant for evil, God meant for good does not excuse the sin and does not get us off the hook.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_01]: But God is a master at bringing beauty for masses.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_01]: And he will do that here as well.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_01]: If the repentance is true and I pray it is, we have hope even in these situations, Jack and maybe we can close with this is that men will fail us, men will disappoint us, Christ never will.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_01]: and as as as as deep as these things hurt and as hard as these things hit, we know that in Christ, we have a shepherd that will never fail, never fall, who overcame every temptation that was thrown at him on our behalf and should all fall away, Christ never will.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_01]: And that's, there's hope in that.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_01]: There's hope in the gospel there.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_01]: Well, um, yeah.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like that's probably it.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_01]: Pray for Sam.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_01]: Pray for his wife.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_01]: Pray for his family.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_01]: Pray for his church.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_01]: They're going through it and pray that repentance is true and that we see the gospel flourish through these things through the pain and
- 33:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, keep your friends close.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_01]: Keep them in the know.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_01]: Keep your head on a swivel.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_01]: There's people falling like flies out here.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_01]: And, uh,
- 34:06[SPEAKER_01]: You know, don't speak too confidently, unless you be the next one we talk about.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, we mean, you know, it could be Jack and I, you know, like this podcast could end.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_01]: If Jack and I were to fall into the same and rightly so, you know, all these things, I mean, that's the danger of saying these things is that, you know, these words can and should be used against us, should we fall into the same sin?
- 34:30[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's the same thing, but by the grace of God, there go we, and it's only through his strength that we walk.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_01]: So, be dependent on Christ and don't keep any sins in the basement.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_01]: Jack, why don't you get a Saturday, man?
- 34:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, if you want to engage us in maybe conversation, maybe in ways in which you want to bring up some ideas.

- 35:58[SPEAKER_01]: We've been price gouging, but that's where Jack and I talk about some of the extra stuff that might not be fitting for the pod, might just be kind of maybe a continuation of the conversation, which I have a feeling at least our first step will be a continuation of this conversation, maybe some
- 36:14[SPEAKER_01]: maybe some practical ideas or steps that we can take to help avoid sin in our own lives.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_01]: That was it.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_01]: That'd be an interesting episode.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to head on over to the picture on to do that.
