- 0:00Speaker 1: Now, from the Star Runnels Sports Desk, your 93.3 KJR
- 0:04Speaker 1: FM Sports Headlines.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Sorry about that. Good morning.
- 0:10Speaker 3: First day, Greg?
- 0:11Speaker 2: Yeah, first day. First day of school for some. Well,
- 0:14Speaker 2: first week of school for some of you. Happy Thursday,
- 0:17Speaker 2: September the 3rd. Headlines are ready. We have frost, brood, corn, light,
- 0:20Speaker 2: cold as the Rockies.
- 0:22Speaker 3: Man, the Rockies sound good right now.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Mariners. Hey, they won two of three in Boston after
- 0:28Speaker 2: getting swept in Toronto. Just when you can't figure them out.
- 0:31Speaker 2: 8-3 win yesterday and a barrage of hits. 12 of them.
- 0:36Speaker 2: A lot of offense yesterday at Fenway Park. Manager Dan
- 0:42Speaker 2: Wilson yanked shaky Bryce Miller after just 65 pitches.
- 0:46Speaker 4: 4-1 lead.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Aggressive bullpen. It's like, oh, maybe we need something to
- 0:51Speaker 2: win here. The offense backed him after that.
- 0:56Speaker 5: This ball might be dropping into that triangle, and it does.
- 1:00Speaker 5: Here comes Canzone, Thunder at home, and it's airmailed Durbin, Deke,
- 1:04Speaker 5: and Julio, and Julio sprinting.
- 1:06Speaker 6: To the plate.
- 1:06Speaker 5: He will score with a slide and without a throw.
- 1:09Speaker 5: Huge third inning for the Mariners. Two more runs in,
- 1:14Speaker 5: and it's 4-0 Mariners. Ground ball up the middle, and
- 1:20Speaker 5: it's got some eyes. Young scores. Here comes Weston Wilson.
- 1:24Speaker 5: He scores standing. Johnny Pareda drives in two. It's a
- 1:30Speaker 5: 6-1 Mariners lead. Line left field destined for the base
- 1:36Speaker 5: of the monster.
- 1:37Speaker 6: Crawford hits third base. He's coming around to score.
- 1:41Speaker 5: Randy Orozarena's big series in Boston marches on.
- 1:45Speaker 6: It's 7-1 M's.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Canzone.
- 1:51Speaker 6: Deep drive. Up to the monster.
- 1:54Speaker 5: And it bangs off the wall. Pereira is in to score.
- 1:58Speaker 5: Randy Held. Dom Canzone scrapes the paint. And the Mariners
- 2:03Speaker 5: continue to push another run across in the sixth inning.
- 2:08Speaker 6: Ben Wilson has had to piece this one together. He
- 2:10Speaker 6: lifted Bryce Miller in the fifth.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Pereira to Rutger. Dominguez.
- 2:15Speaker 6: And now Criswell. They get to the finish line and
- 2:18Speaker 6: a series win. The 1-2. Swing and a miss.
- 2:23Speaker 5: It's over. The Mariners win it. They take the series
- 2:27Speaker 5: two games out of three. They push 25 runs across
- 2:31Speaker 5: in three games at Fenway Park.
- 2:34Speaker 6: And September is off to a phenomenal start.
- 2:38Speaker 2: That's Gary Head, Jr., a Mariners broadcaster and a friend
- 2:40Speaker 2: of ours. Yeah, I let him do all the talking
- 2:42Speaker 2: on that one. 25 runs. 12 hits again yesterday.
- 2:45Speaker 4: Mm-hmm.
- 2:48Speaker 2: I'm not even going to say are they back because
- 2:50Speaker 2: they are still five games out because the trash cans
- 2:52Speaker 2: won last night. Beat Chicago. So the lead is still five.
- 2:56Speaker 2: There's 22 games remaining. The next one is here in Oakland.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Or Oakland. Oakland coming. I'm going to still call them
- 3:01Speaker 2: the Oakland A's. I know they're in Sacramento. Coming to
- 3:05Speaker 2: the yard in Soto tonight. Kate Anderson makes his third
- 3:08Speaker 2: major league start for the Mariners. And a night game tonight,
- 3:11Speaker 2: four-game series with the A's. And then the Rangers come in,
- 3:14Speaker 2: the second-place team in the AL West next week. Seahawks
- 3:16Speaker 2: are back in the practice field today after a three-day break.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Their opener against New England is in six days. We're
- 3:22Speaker 2: going to talk some more about the new owners, the
- 3:23Speaker 2: Kozloff family, in a little bit. Georgia Attorney General Chris
- 3:30Speaker 2: Carr wrote a letter to Southeastern Conference Commissioner Greg Sankey
- 3:33Speaker 2: urging him to, quote, take all measures available. including kicking
- 3:37Speaker 2: LSU out of the conference if the Tigers and Lane
- 3:39Speaker 2: Kiffin decide to roster former NFL players this season. We're
- 3:44Speaker 2: going to talk to Bruce Feldman, college football guy for
- 3:46Speaker 2: Fox Sports, and The Athletic, guy who co-wrote the book
- 3:50Speaker 2: with Mike Leach, Swing Your Sword. It's a good cohort, yes. 1025,
- 3:55Speaker 2: Bruce Feldman's going to be on the air. The NFL
- 3:58Speaker 2: announced severe punishments, I mean severe, for the Los Angeles Clippers,
- 4:03Speaker 2: including the loss of five future first-round picks, a fine
- 4:07Speaker 2: of $ 30 million, and a year-long suspension of Seattle's own
- 4:10Speaker 2: Steve Ballmer, the owner of the Clippers, for violating salary
- 4:14Speaker 2: cap circumvention rules and a case involving outside employment for
- 4:17Speaker 2: star Kawhi Leonard. He's also holding up a deal that's
- 4:20Speaker 2: supposed to trade Leonard from the Clippers to Toronto. In
- 4:23Speaker 2: a statement, the NBA said a near-long investigation found, quote,
- 4:28Speaker 2: a pattern of misconduct and multiple significant rules violations by
- 4:31Speaker 2: the Clippers organization, a prior offender of the salary cap
- 4:34Speaker 2: circumvention rules. I can't help but wonder if this put
- 4:38Speaker 2: a roadblock in Steve Ballmer's attempt or want to, to
- 4:41Speaker 2: buy the Seahawks.
- 4:42Speaker 3: I mean, the writing is there, yes.
- 4:44Speaker 2: You know, Phil might have said, hey, you need to go.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Take care of your own shop down in Clipper Land
- 4:48Speaker 2: before you worry about coming to join in the NFL.
- 4:50Speaker 3: Yeah, he's suing the league.
- 4:53Speaker 2: He's also, yeah, facing a $ 30 million fine and a
- 4:56Speaker 2: year-long suspension. Now on with the Thursday show. Good morning.
- 4:59Speaker 3: It did sound like Gary.
- 5:00Speaker 2: I thought it did. And I thought, okay, she's doing
- 5:03Speaker 2: radio calls today.
- 5:04Speaker 7: No, we only use TV here because we are not
- 5:08Speaker 7: the radio home of the Bears.
- 5:09Speaker 2: That's what I thought. It was peculiar, and I wasn't listening.
- 5:12Speaker 3: But sometimes Gary will fill in, so.
- 5:16Speaker 2: And he's a friend of mine.
- 5:18Speaker 3: He's the best. We love Gary.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Jessamyn McIntyre and Greg Bell with you, as we always are,
- 5:23Speaker 2: from 10 a.m. to noon here on 93.3 KJR FM.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Happy Thursday, those of you that are parents of schoolchildren.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Pretty much, I think, every school district in Washington State
- 5:32Speaker 2: is now back. Oh, man.
- 5:33Speaker 3: The traffic down 15th Avenue South. Yes. It is very
- 5:39Speaker 3: apparent that school is back.
- 5:40Speaker 2: There's that past Ballard High School. Uh-huh. Yeah. Yep. Yeah.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Summer's over. If you haven't noticed, football season is here.
- 5:48Speaker 2: The Seahawks opener just now six days away. We're going
- 5:52Speaker 2: to talk during the show today about all the hubbub
- 5:55Speaker 2: and all the hoo-ha that's going to be going on
- 5:57Speaker 2: downtown on Wednesday, right before the 5-20 kickoff of the
- 6:02Speaker 2: NFL season at Lumen Field. Seahawks and Patriots, there's concerts.
- 6:06Speaker 2: We're going to talk about who may be raising the
- 6:08Speaker 2: 12th man, 12 flag. And the new owner weighed in
- 6:12Speaker 2: on that yesterday.
- 6:13Speaker 3: He did.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Remember we tell you, he is all over social media.
- 6:16Speaker 2: I mean, he's on more than my kids are. I
- 6:18Speaker 2: don't know if he has Instagram and TalkTik and Snapgram.
- 6:21Speaker 3: All right, Bill Belichick.
- 6:23Speaker 2: I don't know if he has all that or not.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Blueface.
- 6:25Speaker 2: I do that all the time with my grad students
- 6:27Speaker 2: at Washington. They just get a kick out of it.
- 6:29Speaker 2: It's like a 12-year-old joke and they still laugh at it.
- 6:31Speaker 3: It's funny.
- 6:32Speaker 2: My kids laugh at it. But yeah, he's all, Vinod
- 6:35Speaker 2: Khosla is all over social media. He responds to everybody
- 6:39Speaker 2: and everything. I know.
- 6:41Speaker 3: He's very responsive.
- 6:42Speaker 7: And I think that, you know, it's kind of new
- 6:45Speaker 7: for us because previous owners, the entire Allen family has
- 6:51Speaker 7: just been, you know, more private.
- 6:53Speaker 2: For 29 years, it was behind the scenes ownership. And
- 6:57Speaker 2: this is out front. Neil Kozla is very active on
- 7:01Speaker 2: social media as well. Their son, who I'm told is
- 7:03Speaker 2: going to be very instrumental in the day-to-day interaction between
- 7:07Speaker 2: the football ops side of the Seahawks and the ownership side.
- 7:11Speaker 2: And I will tell you this. I mentioned it earlier
- 7:13Speaker 2: this week. The coaches can't wait to get Neil Kozler
- 7:16Speaker 2: in that building and do AI with coaching, with nutrition,
- 7:21Speaker 2: with training, with scouting, with everything you can think of
- 7:24Speaker 2: in the Seahawks football operation that artificial intelligence is coming.
- 7:27Speaker 7: Well, I think that they just... continue to operate on efficiency.
- 7:32Speaker 7: And that's what I see AI doing. And it kind
- 7:35Speaker 7: of scares me. I'm not a huge AI fan.
- 7:38Speaker 2: I know I'm not.
- 7:39Speaker 7: But if you're looking at making things more efficient and
- 7:42Speaker 7: that could weigh in to that equation, I could see
- 7:46Speaker 7: that being a positive.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Not to mention, Mike McDonald preaches all the time about
- 7:50Speaker 2: chasing edges. And this is an edge of a new frontier.
- 7:53Speaker 2: The NFL is not that far on to AI and
- 7:56Speaker 2: football operations. The San Francisco 49ers are. And the Seahawks
- 8:01Speaker 2: noticed that. Of course, Vinod Khosla is a minority investor
- 8:05Speaker 2: in the 49ers. He's going to have to divest from.
- 8:07Speaker 2: He had 3% stake in it. Why are we talking
- 8:09Speaker 2: about Vinod Khosla, Neil Khosla, and AI? Well, Vinod Khosla,
- 8:13Speaker 2: if you don't know by now the background, he was
- 8:15Speaker 2: one of the first investors in artificial intelligence like 20
- 8:18Speaker 2: years ago. His son, Neil, in his late 30s, founded
- 8:24Speaker 2: a medical service company that is based on AI. It's
- 8:27Speaker 2: a medical AI company in the Bay Area that he's
- 8:29Speaker 2: the founder and CEO of. So, yes, Mike McDonald and
- 8:34Speaker 2: his staff are very much looking forward to bringing in
- 8:36Speaker 2: the Kozla's expertise and what they've made their billions on, AI.
- 8:40Speaker 2: They were on the cutting front edge of it. And
- 8:43Speaker 2: they got so rich, they bought an NFL team in
- 8:45Speaker 2: our town. And they're going to bring AI to the Seahawks.
- 8:48Speaker 2: It's coming. It's the next edge that Mike McDonald's going
- 8:53Speaker 2: to chase. And he's got an owner that's on board
- 8:56Speaker 2: to help him chase it. There's a lot more to
- 8:58Speaker 2: talk about that. Finally, back-to-back feel-good days for the Mariners
- 9:02Speaker 2: in a series win on the road against the playoff team, too,
- 9:05Speaker 2: the Red Sox. But, man, the low baseball IQ plays
- 9:08Speaker 2: just keep coming. There was one yesterday that I was
- 9:11Speaker 2: on an exercise bike in my basement. Stationary bike watching
- 9:14Speaker 2: on my phone. I almost fell off my bike.
- 9:17Speaker 3: I was just like, this is just like, this is ridiculous.
- 9:20Speaker 2: This is again, high school baseball stuff that I would
- 9:25Speaker 2: remind my guy. I shouldn't have to. We'll talk about that.
- 9:28Speaker 2: It was Julio Rodriguez. Again, I mentioned 10 25, Bruce Feldman,
- 9:32Speaker 2: college football, LSU, welcoming NFL players, a Georgia attorney general,
- 9:37Speaker 2: when the sec to kick LSU out, if they do
- 9:40Speaker 2: that again, What is the SEC really going to do
- 9:43Speaker 2: when Lane Kiffin plays those couple NFL guys he brought back? UCLA.
- 9:49Speaker 2: How the hell is UCLA claiming debt and debtedness, and
- 9:52Speaker 2: that's why they fired their AD, that's what the college
- 9:55Speaker 2: president said, when they have a full share? USC and
- 9:58Speaker 2: UCLA got a full share from the Big Ten. They did.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Unlike Oregon and Washington, who left after them and got
- 10:04Speaker 2: a half share through the end of this decade. So
- 10:06Speaker 2: I could hear Washington and Husky people going, wait a minute.
- 10:10Speaker 2: UCLA in the second largest market in the free world,
- 10:13Speaker 2: media market and all of that in Los Angeles, claiming
- 10:16Speaker 2: debt is the reason the athletic director's out? That's impossible
- 10:20Speaker 2: relative to what Washington is doing. And how about if
- 10:23Speaker 2: you're in Washington State and Poland hearing that? You're like, what?
- 10:27Speaker 2: Come up to where we live.
- 10:28Speaker 3: It makes zero sense.
- 10:29Speaker 6: It does.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Yes. How UCLA football has gone so far down is
- 10:33Speaker 2: a whole other story. We're going to talk to Bruce Feldman,
- 10:35Speaker 2: who has LA roots, and we're going to talk to
- 10:39Speaker 2: him at 1025 about that more in college football. The
- 10:43Speaker 2: 118th Apple Cup is Sunday. I think we know that
- 10:45Speaker 2: by now. 1 p.m., Husky Stadium. It'll be right here
- 10:49Speaker 2: on 93.3 KJR FM. At 9 a.m. is the kickoff
- 10:52Speaker 2: of the Husky Honk Show. The actual kickoff of the
- 10:54Speaker 2: game is at 1 o'clock. Again, Elyse Woodward's debut as
- 10:57Speaker 2: the full-time play-by-play person for Husky football here on KJR,
- 11:03Speaker 2: which means Dave Softy Mahler is now the new sideline
- 11:06Speaker 2: reporter replacing Elyse Woodward. And we've already talked about the
- 11:10Speaker 2: odd tableau That's another word for you.
- 11:13Speaker 3: I like that one, but you went into the French sphere.
- 11:17Speaker 2: On Sunday at Husky Stadium, Jessamyn McIntyre will be on
- 11:21Speaker 2: the Washington State Cougars sideline as a broadcast reporter on
- 11:24Speaker 2: the sideline for WSU's network. And Dave Softy Muller will
- 11:28Speaker 2: be on the opposite sideline. And you haven't mentioned, are
- 11:30Speaker 2: you going to interact at all? Thank God he's on.
- 11:32Speaker 8: The opposite side.
- 11:35Speaker 7: Maybe we'll see each other for the coin flip, which
- 11:38Speaker 7: I always go out for. And it's a little hard
- 11:41Speaker 7: to hear from the broadcast side. So I always go out,
- 11:45Speaker 7: let them know what happened, who called the toss. what
- 11:48Speaker 7: it's going to be, set up the game. And I
- 11:52Speaker 7: don't know if Softie will go out there, but Elise would,
- 11:54Speaker 7: and I would see her out there as well. I
- 11:57Speaker 7: am going to spend the least amount of time with
- 12:00Speaker 7: Dave Softie Mahler as possible.
- 12:01Speaker 2: It's probably a good choice. Yeah. Mariners, let's talk briefly
- 12:06Speaker 2: about this. There's more low IQ baseball play. It just
- 12:10Speaker 2: was bad. First and second one out, top of the
- 12:12Speaker 2: fifth yesterday at Fenway Park. Mariners are up 4-1. Bryce
- 12:16Speaker 2: Miller did not have it. I mean, he had only
- 12:18Speaker 2: given up one run, but he was fortunate, and he
- 12:21Speaker 2: was shaky. So they needed more runs. First and second,
- 12:24Speaker 2: the Mariners had Josh Naylor at first. Julio Rodriguez was
- 12:26Speaker 2: standing on second base. Slow chop with one out to third.
- 12:31Speaker 2: Third baseman charges and grabs it in the baseline. He
- 12:34Speaker 2: was standing pretty much in the baseline. Now, every baseball— I
- 12:38Speaker 2: inherited freshman players who knew this baseball rule.
- 12:42Speaker 3: We learned that early, yeah.
- 12:44Speaker 2: What do you do there? As a runner at second,
- 12:48Speaker 2: you stop, right? Yes, there's a force out. But I
- 12:52Speaker 2: always used to, and I never thought I had to
- 12:54Speaker 2: do it, but sometimes my freshmen and sophomores would mess
- 12:56Speaker 2: this up in my baseball team. I would yell, you know,
- 13:00Speaker 2: you don't have to run into an out here. I
- 13:03Speaker 2: would always yell that at the runner at second. Yes,
- 13:07Speaker 2: you're forced, but don't run into an out. Don't just
- 13:10Speaker 2: make it easy for the third baseman of the shortstop
- 13:12Speaker 2: is what I meant. And they knew and they stopped.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Julio Rodriguez just ran into the third baseman who was
- 13:19Speaker 2: holding the ball.
- 13:21Speaker 3: I was just astounded.
- 13:24Speaker 2: And Aaron Goldsmith on the Mariners TV just recorded as a... So,
- 13:28Speaker 2: of course, the third baseman, because Rodriguez ran right into
- 13:32Speaker 2: him as he caught this chopper, tags him and throws
- 13:36Speaker 2: almost in one motion to first base for the easiest
- 13:38Speaker 2: double play you'll ever see rally over. Josh Naylor was
- 13:43Speaker 2: the trail runner, as I said, from first to second.
- 13:45Speaker 2: He got to second base... And it was great camera
- 13:48Speaker 2: work to flip. The producer did a lucky cut there.
- 13:52Speaker 2: He said, cut the second, cut to Naylor standing on second.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Naylor took his batting helmet and chucked it in the
- 13:58Speaker 2: left field. He was so mad at Julio Rodriguez. I
- 14:00Speaker 2: don't know if anyone noticed that on the broadcast. Naylor
- 14:03Speaker 2: chucked his batting helmet in the left field because of
- 14:05Speaker 2: what Julio Rodriguez did. The batting helmet broke. There's an
- 14:09Speaker 2: ear flap that goes from the ear across the face
- 14:12Speaker 2: that a lot of players, including Naylor, wear. And Naylor
- 14:14Speaker 2: being a left-handed hitter, it goes across the right side
- 14:17Speaker 2: of his face. Well, that plastic piece broke, snapped off
- 14:21Speaker 2: because he threw his helmet so far and so hard.
- 14:23Speaker 2: When it landed in left field, it just broke. So
- 14:26Speaker 2: for the rest of the game... I don't know why
- 14:28Speaker 2: they didn't have a backup helmet for him. For the
- 14:30Speaker 2: rest of the game, Josh Naylor wore a half-broken helmet
- 14:33Speaker 2: with the plastic frame of his face guard.
- 14:38Speaker 7: Do you think that there is a part of Josh
- 14:40Speaker 7: Naylor that actually wanted.
- 14:41Speaker 2: To do that?
- 14:42Speaker 6: Of course.
- 14:43Speaker 3: Because that's kind of what his face tells me.
- 14:46Speaker 2: I think he wore that helmet the rest of the
- 14:48Speaker 2: game to remind everybody why it's broken. That I have
- 14:51Speaker 2: a numbskull teammate who ran into a double play and
- 14:54Speaker 2: a threat. The other thing that I spent the rest
- 14:57Speaker 2: of the game thinking about, Randy Rosarino. When I go
- 15:01Speaker 2: to the games, I usually try either, if I'm not
- 15:03Speaker 2: in the press box, I sit behind third base, and
- 15:05Speaker 2: I get a kick out of watching Randy Rosarino interact
- 15:07Speaker 2: with the fans. Every ball, batted ball for an out,
- 15:12Speaker 2: he does it with no runners on base, throws it
- 15:14Speaker 2: into the stands. The ball he warms up with between innings,
- 15:17Speaker 2: he throws it into the stands. I wonder if when
- 15:20Speaker 2: he was walking back out to left field to begin
- 15:24Speaker 2: the bottom of the fifth, the warm-up, If he didn't
- 15:26Speaker 2: take that piece of helmet flap and throw it into
- 15:28Speaker 2: the Fenway Park crowd, and that someone in New England
- 15:31Speaker 2: right now has Josh Naylor's batting flap face.
- 15:35Speaker 3: I'd keep it if I got it.
- 15:36Speaker 2: What an odd souvenir that would be. But yeah, I
- 15:40Speaker 2: think it was totally on purpose that Naylor played the
- 15:42Speaker 2: rest of the game.
- 15:43Speaker 3: I do too.
- 15:44Speaker 2: To remind everyone why his helmet was broken was because
- 15:47Speaker 2: Julio Rodriguez did an absolutely stupid baseball move for the
- 15:50Speaker 2: 15th time this summer. It's time to sit him.
- 15:54Speaker 7: It is.
- 15:54Speaker 3: He could use a week off.
- 15:55Speaker 2: And I know it's late and there's no time for messaging.
- 15:59Speaker 2: All your best players need to be playing because they've
- 16:00Speaker 2: got to win every game. But they just won a
- 16:01Speaker 2: game yesterday with Cal Raleigh and Laz Montes on the bench.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Said Julio Rodriguez. He needs to watch. That is inexcusable.
- 16:10Speaker 2: I know he had a ground ball RBI single yesterday. Yes.
- 16:13Speaker 2: But that, you just, it was absurd. To his credit
- 16:18Speaker 2: and their credit. Aaron Goldsmith and Ryan Rowland-Smith, when they
- 16:21Speaker 2: came back from commercial for the bottom of the fifth,
- 16:24Speaker 2: they replayed the base running blunder. It was so bad,
- 16:28Speaker 2: it came called a blunder. The mindless running. And they
- 16:32Speaker 2: took Rodriguez somewhat to task for it. Rowland-Smith said, you
- 16:35Speaker 2: can't do that there. You'd like to see him stop
- 16:38Speaker 2: and make the third baseman have a choice.
- 16:40Speaker 3: And they're hired by the team.
- 16:41Speaker 7: So for them to go to that point of that's
- 16:45Speaker 7: the kindest thing they could say.
- 16:46Speaker 6: Correct.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Now, they didn't exactly rip him. And Goldsmith kind of
- 16:50Speaker 2: gave him a hedge. Maybe he was avoiding the bat
- 16:53Speaker 2: that was shattered and whatever.
- 16:55Speaker 7: The line is different for people who are team employees.
- 16:58Speaker 7: And that was my whole point.
- 17:00Speaker 2: You know all about that. Yes, I do. She's a
- 17:02Speaker 2: Washington State employee. Jessamyn is when she's doing broadcast. But, yeah,
- 17:07Speaker 2: I thought it was very peculiar that the Mariners' employees
- 17:11Speaker 2: were even calling out Rodriguez for this play.
- 17:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:14Speaker 2: To their credit.
- 17:15Speaker 3: They were decent about it. I don't think, like you said.
- 17:18Speaker 2: They didn't flame him.
- 17:19Speaker 3: They didn't.
- 17:20Speaker 7: But for them to get to that line, like, people
- 17:23Speaker 7: need to understand that the line is different.
- 17:26Speaker 4: It is.
- 17:27Speaker 9: Yes.
- 17:27Speaker 2: But hats off to them because— I thought they were
- 17:30Speaker 2: just going to ignore it. I thought for sure, no
- 17:32Speaker 2: one's going to say anything about it and they would
- 17:34Speaker 2: just move on. But every time Naylor came up for
- 17:37Speaker 2: the rest of the game, I thought about it. That
- 17:40Speaker 2: was really funny. 4945, but if you follow what I'm
- 17:43Speaker 2: talking about, do you agree? Or if you disagree and
- 17:45Speaker 2: Julio Rodriguez should be playing no matter what he does.
- 17:48Speaker 2: I just don't get that's a co-face of your franchise
- 17:51Speaker 2: that you've given a $ 200 million contract to gets away
- 17:53Speaker 2: with that. And that there's nobody in the organization from
- 17:56Speaker 2: Jerry DePoto to Justin Hollander to Dan Wilson to Josh
- 17:59Speaker 2: Naylor to Randy Rosarino to anybody in that clubhouse, Cal Raleigh,
- 18:04Speaker 2: that doesn't say, what? And just bat him around a
- 18:08Speaker 2: little bit.
- 18:09Speaker 3: Well, like you said, I mean, we were talking about
- 18:12Speaker 3: this a month ago. Ass kicker.
- 18:13Speaker 2: There's no ass kicker. Not even in the organization. Not
- 18:16Speaker 2: only the clubhouse, there just aren't any in the organization
- 18:19Speaker 2: for a team that is so underperforming. Five out, 22
- 18:22Speaker 2: to go. The A's come into town. Here they go.
- 18:25Speaker 2: The stretch of games against sub-500 teams begins today. Starting
- 18:29Speaker 2: tonight at the Yard in Soto. Next, college football. I
- 18:32Speaker 2: want to talk about things that aren't right. There's a
- 18:34Speaker 2: lot of stuff broken with college football. Thankfully, the games
- 18:37Speaker 2: are going to start soon. There's a lot to talk
- 18:39Speaker 2: about with Bruce Feldman. Full schedule of week one college
- 18:43Speaker 2: football begins tonight. Why is Rutgers and UMass a featured
- 18:47Speaker 2: national TV game, by the way? Besides it's a New
- 18:50Speaker 2: York market.
- 18:51Speaker 3: It's a New York market and a Boston market.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true.
- 18:54Speaker 3: Boston market.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Good mashed potatoes. Yeah, that's the only reason.
- 18:58Speaker 10: It is.
- 18:59Speaker 2: Bruce Feldman is going to join us next at 11 o'clock.
- 19:01Speaker 2: We're going to talk about the Kozlas and what they've
- 19:04Speaker 2: got going on potentially for opening night on Wednesday. Seahawks, Patriots,
- 19:08Speaker 2: the new owners. All that's coming up on 93.3 KJRFM.
- 19:36Speaker 2: Which college football theme was that? That was a network
- 19:41Speaker 2: from like the 90s, wasn't it?
- 19:43Speaker 3: I'd like to go old school.
- 19:44Speaker 2: Was that TBS? What was that?
- 19:46Speaker 11: I don't know.
- 19:47Speaker 2: I think that might.
- 19:48Speaker 3: Have been TBS. It reminds me of growing up and
- 19:51Speaker 3: I like it.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Yeah, that's like 90s TBS when they used to show
- 19:54Speaker 2: Oregon State Stanford at 10 p.m. Eastern time. I remember
- 19:58Speaker 2: watching that growing up in the 80s. 20 people at
- 20:01Speaker 2: old Stanford Stadium would be on national television. Bruce Feldman
- 20:05Speaker 2: remembers those days. He is a college football writer, insider
- 20:10Speaker 2: for Fox Sports Television and for The Athletic, L.A.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Roots.
- 20:14Speaker 2: Jessamyn goes back with Bruce Feldman to their days at
- 20:17Speaker 2: Washington State. Mike Leach, swing the sword, swing your sword.
- 20:21Speaker 3: We had a mutual friend, yes.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Hello, Bruce. Thanks for joining us, sir. Hey, guys.
- 20:27Speaker 4: Thanks for having me.
- 20:28Speaker 2: Bruce Feldman on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline. Let me start
- 20:31Speaker 2: off by asking you about the LSU situation. Today, On3
- 20:35Speaker 2: is reporting... that now the SEC is suing LSU and
- 20:40Speaker 2: naming the president, the AD, and late coach Lane Kiffin
- 20:43Speaker 2: as the co-defendants over potentially bringing NFL players who were
- 20:47Speaker 2: in training camps this year onto the LSU roster. The
- 20:50Speaker 2: Georgia attorney general, I'm only laughing because it's just college football.
- 20:57Speaker 2: Georgia's attorney general wants to kick LSU out of the
- 21:00Speaker 2: SEC if they play those NFL players. Bruce, what could
- 21:04Speaker 2: Besides suing him, which everyone's doing in college sports these days,
- 21:08Speaker 2: what really do you think the SEC would do if
- 21:10Speaker 2: Lane Kiffin suits up the tight end from the NFL
- 21:13Speaker 2: training camp this fall?
- 21:15Speaker 11: I can't wait to find out. I mean, I feel
- 21:17Speaker 11: like nothing is off the table, right? You guys just
- 21:21Speaker 11: said it, you know, the Georgia attorney general's. waded into this. Like,
- 21:26Speaker 11: I don't know, it was probably two months ago when
- 21:28Speaker 11: all the stuff in the big 12 was going on
- 21:30Speaker 11: with Texas tech and Brendan Sorsby.
- 21:32Speaker 4: And you had probably a different villain.
- 21:34Speaker 11: There was Cody Campbell, you know, the billionaire booster who's
- 21:37Speaker 11: been behind Texas tax rise. Lane is a different kind
- 21:41Speaker 11: of villain, but he's, he's a college football villain nonetheless.
- 21:45Speaker 4: And he's really polarizing, right?
- 21:47Speaker 11: So you have this, this, um, You know, this school
- 21:51Speaker 11: that has never been shy about stepping on people's toes,
- 21:54Speaker 11: and you got politicians involved, and you got Lane involved.
- 21:58Speaker 11: I mean, it's just, it's like the perfect storm for,
- 22:02Speaker 11: you know, kind of like, okay, this is probably a
- 22:04Speaker 11: fitting way to start the season with all this drama.
- 22:08Speaker 11: You know, here we are, we're, you know, there's going
- 22:11Speaker 11: to be games tonight and tomorrow, obviously, but... We're, what
- 22:15Speaker 11: is it, 48 hours away from kickoff from most of
- 22:18Speaker 11: the games in week one, and you've got this court
- 22:21Speaker 11: case playing out and people threatening to sue. The SEC
- 22:26Speaker 11: filing a lawsuit against LSU, much less their football coach,
- 22:29Speaker 11: is just a wild but fitting way to kick off.
- 22:34Speaker 4: The season, I guess.
- 22:34Speaker 2: Bruce, why do you think this is the line in
- 22:36Speaker 2: the sand? Because college presidents' conferences have stayed out of
- 22:40Speaker 2: almost everything until the this about NFL play, but everything else,
- 22:46Speaker 2: they haven't done anything. NIL transfers, unlimited transfers, eligibility, exemptions.
- 22:53Speaker 2: They've just been afraid of getting sued for, why do
- 22:56Speaker 2: you think this NFL issue is a line in the
- 22:59Speaker 2: sand and a point that if they allow this, that
- 23:03Speaker 2: there's no turning back?
- 23:05Speaker 11: That's a good question because there's been so many things
- 23:08Speaker 11: you had, you know, Lane was sort of on the
- 23:10Speaker 11: other side of it with, uh, you know, with his
- 23:13Speaker 11: old quarterback, Trinidad Chambers. And I think he brought that
- 23:16Speaker 11: up and he's talked to lawyers about how does this gonna,
- 23:20Speaker 11: you know, it's almost like the messaging part of it, right?
- 23:23Speaker 11: Cause Lane's very public when it comes to this, whether
- 23:25Speaker 11: it's on social media or on Pat McAfee show or
- 23:27Speaker 11: wherever he pops up. And I, I think that adds
- 23:31Speaker 11: to it.
- 23:31Speaker 7: Right.
- 23:32Speaker 4: Um, you know, it's funny, like, Lane Kiffin already probably.
- 23:36Speaker 11: Has the most talented tight end in the country in
- 23:38Speaker 11: Trey Desgreen to add this other guy who would be
- 23:40Speaker 11: a good player for them. But, you know, it's not
- 23:43Speaker 11: like you're adding like your starting quarterback here. So if
- 23:47Speaker 11: the SEC were to determine, hey, if you play a
- 23:50Speaker 11: player we deem ineligible and you don't win this court case,
- 23:54Speaker 11: you know, whatever games you win, whether it's against Clemson
- 23:58Speaker 11: this weekend or, you know, in the next couple of weeks,
- 24:02Speaker 11: that can come back and bite you if you're trying
- 24:03Speaker 11: to make a playoff.
- 24:04Speaker 4: Right.
- 24:05Speaker 11: Um, I, I, I think it's just like right now
- 24:09Speaker 11: they're trying to say, I think the line in the
- 24:13Speaker 11: sand here in this regard is probably like, the big
- 24:17Speaker 11: 10 for the most part is aligned. I'm not saying
- 24:20Speaker 11: everybody agrees with every single decision that's going on, but
- 24:23Speaker 11: even with the FCC, you know, when it comes to
- 24:26Speaker 11: like talking about playoff teams and expansion and all that,
- 24:30Speaker 11: I feel like there's a lot more saber rattling that
- 24:34Speaker 11: goes on to use that term. And I feel like
- 24:37Speaker 11: this is Greg Sankey and the FCC's way of going, Hey,
- 24:41Speaker 11: we got to get this under control. This is an
- 24:43Speaker 11: issue that we can't, if we can't draw the line here,
- 24:46Speaker 11: where are we going to draw the line?
- 24:48Speaker 2: This is Bruce Feldman from Fox Sports and the Athletic
- 24:50Speaker 2: College Football Insider joining us on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline
- 24:53Speaker 2: on 93.3 KJRFM. You wrote an interesting story that piggybacked
- 24:57Speaker 2: on what you did the end of last season. You
- 24:59Speaker 2: surveyed college coaches and athletic directors, general managers across the country,
- 25:04Speaker 2: and you did now from a preseason point of view
- 25:06Speaker 2: rather than the postseason last season. And 18 college football
- 25:11Speaker 2: coaches voted in your poll. They voted the national champion
- 25:13Speaker 2: would be most likely the most votes was Oregon, which
- 25:16Speaker 2: I shudder to say here in Seattle. And the biggest
- 25:20Speaker 2: sleeper getting overlooked is Michigan. The biggest fraud getting overhyped
- 25:23Speaker 2: is LSU with Lane Kiffin. Heisman Trophy winner Dante Moore
- 25:27Speaker 2: predicted from quarterback course from Oregon and who should be
- 25:30Speaker 2: the highest paid player in NIL money and whatnot. Revenue
- 25:33Speaker 2: sharing Jeremiah Smith, the wide receiver from Ohio State. First
- 25:36Speaker 2: of all, as a journalist and someone who is steeped
- 25:39Speaker 2: in newspaper beat writing, what was your methodology for this?
- 25:42Speaker 2: Did you go to 18 different college campuses? Did you
- 25:44Speaker 2: send out emails? How did you collect this?
- 25:48Speaker 4: So I– mostly it was over the phone. There was
- 25:51Speaker 4: a few other.
- 25:52Speaker 11: Guys that I had reached out over text and sent
- 25:55Speaker 11: them my questions and emails. Basically, we got back some
- 26:01Speaker 11: really interesting responses. There was another question I asked that
- 26:06Speaker 11: also got some colorful answers, but that one I think
- 26:10Speaker 11: we are saving for next week because it goes into
- 26:14Speaker 11: something else we're working on.
- 26:15Speaker 4: A lot of these questions were.
- 26:19Speaker 11: Pretty straightforward. The question which was like, who is the
- 26:24Speaker 11: biggest fraud, you know, I would go in to say,
- 26:26Speaker 11: all right, who do you think is getting, who's got
- 26:28Speaker 11: getting overhyped this, you.
- 26:29Speaker 4: Know, right now. And so, you know, it's easy to,
- 26:34Speaker 4: to see, all right, you.
- 26:35Speaker 11: Know, there's a graphic with Lane Kiffin's.
- 26:37Speaker 4: Face and, and the word fraud.
- 26:40Speaker 11: And it's just, you know, I think a lot of
- 26:42Speaker 11: people identify with it, but then, you know, Ohio state.
- 26:45Speaker 4: Got a couple of votes. I don't think anybody.
- 26:47Speaker 11: Feels like Ohio state is quote a fraud or in
- 26:50Speaker 11: the same line as maybe they would look at Lane
- 26:51Speaker 11: Kiffin in that regard. Um, But what happened was they
- 26:55Speaker 11: were number one in both polls. They have a lot
- 26:58Speaker 11: of really good defense, like three elite players after a
- 27:00Speaker 11: place on defense. As well as probably the nation's hardest schedule.
- 27:05Speaker 11: So I think a lot of people are just like, eh,
- 27:06Speaker 11: I'm not sure I'm buying, or at least some people
- 27:08Speaker 11: are like, I'm not sure I'm buying them. They should
- 27:10Speaker 11: be ranked that high. So, you know, I left it
- 27:12Speaker 11: open to how people wanted to interpret who should be,
- 27:15Speaker 11: who's overhyped right now. But it was, it was kind
- 27:17Speaker 11: of a fascinating study because I think we were a
- 27:19Speaker 11: little surprised at how many people thought Oregon was going
- 27:23Speaker 11: to win the national title.
- 27:25Speaker 12: Hmm.
- 27:25Speaker 2: And Michigan being the biggest sleeper, it's obvious to me,
- 27:29Speaker 2: but for the listeners, why is that? And Washington got
- 27:31Speaker 2: a vote as being an overlooked team as a possible sleeper.
- 27:35Speaker 2: Why do you think that was, Bruce?
- 27:38Speaker 11: Dynamic quarterback, good offensive line, defense did some good things.
- 27:42Speaker 11: And I think the other thing is, look, Jetfish had
- 27:45Speaker 11: a breakout year in year three in Arizona. I'd be
- 27:49Speaker 11: surprised if they were going to be quite as good
- 27:53Speaker 11: as Arizona was. I think Arizona finished 11th in the
- 27:56Speaker 11: country in the third year, and they were obviously worse. then,
- 28:00Speaker 11: you know, I mean, he took over the roster that
- 28:03Speaker 11: was pretty much gutted in terms of like, there were
- 28:05Speaker 11: no starters back from that team that played in the
- 28:07Speaker 11: national title game. There's still better players than what, what
- 28:11Speaker 11: Arizona looked like. But I think there's some of that
- 28:13Speaker 11: is like, Hey, you know, they're a dangerous team. They
- 28:16Speaker 11: won nine games and the quarterback was, was still really young.
- 28:20Speaker 11: And a lot of the parts around that were young.
- 28:22Speaker 4: So I don't know.
- 28:24Speaker 11: I feel like they are, You know, as somebody I
- 28:28Speaker 11: talked to about this, it's like everybody talks about Ohio State.
- 28:33Speaker 11: They're talking about Oregon, Indiana, the defending national champs. That
- 28:36Speaker 11: doesn't even mention USC or Michigan. And I feel like
- 28:40Speaker 11: there are teams, whether it's Penn State, because some people
- 28:43Speaker 11: thought Penn State's a sleeper, or a Washington that probably
- 28:47Speaker 11: are getting overlooked because there's just only so much oxygen
- 28:50Speaker 11: that is around in the Big Ten with those other teams.
- 28:53Speaker 2: Well, you just mentioned five top teams and counting Penn
- 28:55Speaker 2: State's six top teams in the Big Ten. Washington could
- 28:58Speaker 2: be better, yet finish seventh. Where do you figure they're
- 29:01Speaker 2: going to end up in the Big Ten, do you think, Bruce?
- 29:04Speaker 11: You know, I think if they can record is similar
- 29:07Speaker 11: to last year, I think that would actually be a
- 29:11Speaker 11: strong season given how deep the conference is right now,
- 29:15Speaker 11: but also how the schedule sets up for them. You know,
- 29:18Speaker 11: you look at what they got to go to. I
- 29:21Speaker 11: know the first couple of weeks, you know, they should
- 29:23Speaker 11: have opened three and oh, Minnesota, I think is pretty good.
- 29:26Speaker 11: Then you got to go to a USC, which will
- 29:29Speaker 11: be tough. They have to finish at Oregon, which obviously
- 29:33Speaker 11: will be tough. And then you got the defending national
- 29:35Speaker 11: champs the week before you have to go on the
- 29:38Speaker 11: road to Oregon. So that's you know, that's three tough games, two,
- 29:43Speaker 11: two rough road games, plus Indiana. I mean, can you
- 29:47Speaker 11: win one of those three games? That's to me, that's
- 29:50Speaker 11: overly optimistic. So I think you're almost starting at nine
- 29:53Speaker 11: and three at them. And that's, You know, you can't
- 29:56Speaker 11: afford to stumble against Minnesota or Iowa or Penn State.
- 30:00Speaker 4: And those, I think, are all going to be pretty
- 30:02Speaker 4: good teams.
- 30:03Speaker 7: Bruce, you spent a ton of time in the Pac-12
- 30:06Speaker 7: covering Mike Leach, and you have had the privilege of
- 30:10Speaker 7: coming to Pullman, Washington. I would like to travel to
- 30:13Speaker 7: the crimson and gray side of the state with the
- 30:17Speaker 7: newly envisioned Pac-12. I'm wondering from you, with all the
- 30:20Speaker 7: institutional knowledge that you have covering college football, as long
- 30:24Speaker 7: as you have, What your view is of how this
- 30:27Speaker 7: conference is being rebuilt?
- 30:31Speaker 11: You know, it reshaped better than I thought it would,
- 30:36Speaker 11: to be honest, because if you look at what's in the,
- 30:39Speaker 11: you know, like compared to the Mountain West conference. which
- 30:43Speaker 11: had been, you know, a strong group of six, right?
- 30:47Speaker 11: And I just feel like looking at it now, you
- 30:50Speaker 11: have some good brand schools in there. I think, obviously,
- 30:54Speaker 11: Boise State's been really good for a long time. I
- 30:57Speaker 11: think Fresno State, but Fresno State's on our air tomorrow
- 30:59Speaker 11: night at Fox.
- 31:00Speaker 4: They play USC. It'll be interesting. They just had a
- 31:02Speaker 4: really good first year under Matt Entz. Um, you know, I.
- 31:07Speaker 11: Think San Diego state is good. I think Washington state
- 31:10Speaker 11: to me, you know, I feel like we've talked about this,
- 31:13Speaker 11: you know, when I've been on in the past, I mean,
- 31:15Speaker 11: they got the shaft so bad by the.
- 31:17Speaker 4: Rest of the conference.
- 31:21Speaker 11: And so I got a lot of, you know, I
- 31:22Speaker 11: have a lot of respect for Cougs fans. Cause like,
- 31:25Speaker 11: it just felt like, you know, I don't want to
- 31:28Speaker 11: hijack that, you know, by going in that direction, but
- 31:30Speaker 11: just like, I think they, they landed in a relatively
- 31:34Speaker 11: decent spot relative to this.
- 31:36Speaker 4: It would have been probably better if they could have
- 31:38Speaker 4: gotten UNLV into the league. Cause I feel like.
- 31:43Speaker 11: UNLV is one of those brands.
- 31:44Speaker 4: Obviously it's a.
- 31:45Speaker 11: Big market where they've won 10 games the last couple
- 31:49Speaker 11: of years, obviously didn't win the other night against Memphis,
- 31:51Speaker 11: but Maybe they looked at it and go, you know what?
- 31:53Speaker 11: We're only taking schools that have state in their last name.
- 31:57Speaker 3: They are a land rights situation, yes.
- 32:00Speaker 11: I know. So other than that, no San Jose State
- 32:04Speaker 11: didn't come in and then UNLV they didn't end up
- 32:06Speaker 11: getting or whatever. But I feel like it aligns pretty well, right?
- 32:10Speaker 11: I feel like San Diego State, as long as Sean
- 32:12Speaker 11: Moses is there, Texas State is actually pretty good. I
- 32:15Speaker 11: know people aren't familiar with it because it's like in
- 32:17Speaker 11: San Marcos and it's.
- 32:19Speaker 4: Relatively new, but... all things being equal, I think the
- 32:23Speaker 4: Cougs landed in a pretty good spot.
- 32:25Speaker 3: I'd like to hear that.
- 32:26Speaker 11: And, by the way, I think the Cougs landed in
- 32:29Speaker 11: a better spot with their coach now than what they
- 32:31Speaker 11: just had.
- 32:32Speaker 3: I would agree.
- 32:33Speaker 7: Kirby Moore came to the famous Idaho Potato Bowl, and
- 32:38Speaker 7: that was before he had squashed a grape as a
- 32:42Speaker 7: coach for Washington State.
- 32:44Speaker 3: And I was very impressed with the way he handled himself.
- 32:47Speaker 3: He's young. He's only 36 years old.
- 32:49Speaker 7: And being able to kind of wow the crowd, I
- 32:53Speaker 7: can say, because we always do a pregame show for,
- 32:57Speaker 7: you know, the night before a bowl game.
- 32:59Speaker 3: And he came there. He wowed the crowd.
- 33:02Speaker 7: And that seems to be something that's very important when
- 33:05Speaker 7: it comes to college football these days. You're almost an agent.
- 33:08Speaker 7: You're a president. You're doing everything for this team. And
- 33:12Speaker 7: I'm wondering how you see him just from your.
- 33:15Speaker 2: View, 30,000 feet away.
- 33:18Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm a believer.
- 33:20Speaker 11: Full disclosure, I really like Kellen. I've gotten to know him.
- 33:24Speaker 11: I've always been impressed with his older brother. He's an
- 33:27Speaker 11: amazing quarterback at Boise. And I think Kirby's really sharp.
- 33:31Speaker 11: He did a good job as an assistant. I think
- 33:34Speaker 11: he's a way better fit than Jimmy Rogers was.
- 33:38Speaker 4: I felt like... That was like.
- 33:41Speaker 11: Addition by subtraction for them. And then they ended up getting,
- 33:44Speaker 11: I think, a really good coach who seems like he
- 33:47Speaker 11: wants to be there and gets the place.
- 33:49Speaker 4: And as you guys.
- 33:50Speaker 11: Know, that's really critical in a place like that. You know,
- 33:54Speaker 11: if you get somebody who's just looking to bounce as
- 33:56Speaker 11: soon as possible, that doesn't have real ties to the place,
- 33:59Speaker 11: kind of doesn't. get doesn't get the place doesn't like
- 34:04Speaker 11: really not doesn't mean somewhat they're trying that much um
- 34:08Speaker 11: you know it's eventually it's gonna backfire and i thought
- 34:13Speaker 11: um you know it's like look it's a tough tough
- 34:16Speaker 11: start you play a really good team that has a
- 34:19Speaker 11: really good quarterback and now you're you know we'll see
- 34:22Speaker 11: but i think that You know, that's about as good
- 34:27Speaker 11: a hire as I think they could have made at
- 34:28Speaker 11: that point, given the ties to the area, the name recognition,
- 34:32Speaker 11: offensive guy, and a guy who has some presence to
- 34:35Speaker 11: him who can get people excited. Because as you guys know,
- 34:39Speaker 11: that fan base has been through.
- 34:41Speaker 4: A lot in the last decade. Just an awful roller coaster.
- 34:45Speaker 3: Yes, and they stuck.
- 34:46Speaker 2: Yes.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Yes.
- 34:47Speaker 2: We do know. We do know. Bruce, before I let
- 34:51Speaker 2: you go, I got to ask you about UCLA. How
- 34:54Speaker 2: can the president of UCLA claim that Martin Jaman, the
- 34:57Speaker 2: athletic director, he fired him because of athletic directors, the
- 35:01Speaker 2: athletic departments and debt. How can UCLA claim so much
- 35:05Speaker 2: debt in the second largest media market in the free
- 35:08Speaker 2: world and they get a full Big Ten share? I mean,
- 35:11Speaker 2: Washington and Oregon must be hearing that going, what are
- 35:13Speaker 2: you talking about? We get half a share of Through
- 35:15Speaker 2: the end of the decade, and UCLA's claiming poor, and
- 35:18Speaker 2: they fired their AD over. What's going on down there?
- 35:21Speaker 11: I think there's a staggering level of dysfunction that has
- 35:24Speaker 11: been going on at UCLA. I mean, I'm honestly surprised
- 35:28Speaker 11: Martin lasted that long, but they gave him a new
- 35:31Speaker 11: deal at some point in the chaos. You know, I
- 35:36Speaker 11: think the writing was more than on the wall when
- 35:39Speaker 11: they went through this hiring process and got Bob Chesney,
- 35:42Speaker 11: and it just felt like they almost worked around Martin,
- 35:44Speaker 11: you know, a couple of years before he ended up.
- 35:49Speaker 11: You know, it was like a cool viral moment when
- 35:51Speaker 11: he announced Deshaun Foster to be the new head coach
- 35:55Speaker 11: because it was definitely a jilted fan base and everything
- 35:59Speaker 11: else of what had gone on. You know, the flip
- 36:03Speaker 11: side of it is UCLA won a women's basketball title
- 36:07Speaker 11: and there's some other good things that are going on,
- 36:09Speaker 11: but it just felt like.
- 36:12Speaker 4: They were kind of over Martin.
- 36:14Speaker 11: And I don't know, you know, we'll see if they
- 36:16Speaker 11: can get some of these other financial benefits pieces in
- 36:19Speaker 11: place to get going.
- 36:22Speaker 4: I do like the Bob Chesney hire. I've been impressed
- 36:25Speaker 4: with what he's done.
- 36:26Speaker 11: He's an East Coast guy from Pennsylvania who coached in
- 36:32Speaker 11: the Northeast most of his career. He doesn't have roots
- 36:35Speaker 11: out here, but he's an engaging, charming personality. I think
- 36:41Speaker 11: he's done a really nice job with it.
- 36:43Speaker 4: We'll see.
- 36:44Speaker 11: I think a lot of folks are buying into that.
- 36:47Speaker 11: I mean, I'm fascinated to see what happens this weekend.
- 36:50Speaker 11: They play Cal. It's also Tosh Lupoi's first game. I mean,
- 36:53Speaker 11: two good, talented quarterbacks.
- 36:55Speaker 4: It should be a good game.
- 36:56Speaker 11: And I think, to say this for UCLA, I think
- 37:01Speaker 11: there's a lot of people who are just like, all right,
- 37:03Speaker 11: we're done with Martin.
- 37:04Speaker 4: It's fine. Let's move on. And they're glad they got
- 37:06Speaker 4: Bob Chesney at least.
- 37:08Speaker 2: Bruce Feldman, appreciate you. I know you're a busy man.
- 37:11Speaker 2: I assume we'll see you on Fresno State USC tomorrow
- 37:14Speaker 2: night on Fox. Thanks for joining us.
- 37:16Speaker 4: My pleasure.
- 37:17Speaker 2: Thanks, guys. Bruce Feldman from The Athletic and from Fox
- 37:21Speaker 2: College Football's broadcast and talking about the LSU SEC mess.
- 37:24Speaker 2: If you missed the news from this morning, the latest
- 37:26Speaker 2: twist is the SEC is suing LSU, the university president,
- 37:31Speaker 2: the athletic director, and coach Lane Kiffin over possibly playing
- 37:36Speaker 2: NFL players, players who are in training camps this summer
- 37:39Speaker 2: that Lane Kiffin wants to bring onto the LSU roster.
- 37:41Speaker 2: The SEC, their conference is suing them. Up next. We'll
- 37:46Speaker 2: talk about the Seahawks, about the opener. We'll talk about
- 37:51Speaker 2: the final episode of Hard Knocks. A couple other things
- 37:53Speaker 2: I wanted to bring up from a coaching standpoint. That's
- 37:56Speaker 2: coming up on 93.3 KJRFM. Welcome back. Greg Bell and
- 38:11Speaker 2: Justin McIntyre with you on 93.3 KJRFM. Football is gone.
- 38:17Speaker 2: College football beginning tonight. High school football beginning tonight.
- 38:20Speaker 3: I thought you said gone for a second there.
- 38:22Speaker 2: It's gone. No, it's gone. Going.
- 38:25Speaker 3: G-O-I-N.
- 38:25Speaker 2: I'm officiating Ballard and Lincoln.
- 38:27Speaker 3: That's awesome.
- 38:28Speaker 2: Northwest Athletic Complex, as they call it, next to Ingram
- 38:31Speaker 2: High School in a Metro League game. Tomorrow, we're going
- 38:34Speaker 2: to debut our High School Football Friday feature. We're going
- 38:37Speaker 2: to do it every Friday during the football season. Our
- 38:41Speaker 2: featured game for this week, week one, is a 4A
- 38:44Speaker 2: heavyweight showdown. Number four, Lake Stevens hosting third-ranked Graham Kapowson
- 38:48Speaker 2: in a rematch of a playoff match last November. Lake
- 38:53Speaker 2: Stevens knocked out GK. We're going to have Graham Kapowson
- 38:56Speaker 2: head coach Jeff Logan tomorrow on the air on 93.3 KJRFM,
- 39:01Speaker 2: talking about a week one showdown.
- 39:02Speaker 3: And what time?
- 39:04Speaker 2: We'll have him out at 11 o'clock tomorrow. Thank you
- 39:05Speaker 2: for asking.
- 39:06Speaker 13: I love that.
- 39:06Speaker 2: We'll also have Farhan Lalji of TSN Canada to talk
- 39:09Speaker 2: about the NFL tomorrow at about 10.20 live. So football
- 39:14Speaker 2: is in big, big debut mode tomorrow here on our show.
- 39:18Speaker 2: The Seahawks are back on the practice field today. They
- 39:21Speaker 2: had three days off as mandated by the collective bargaining
- 39:24Speaker 2: agreement with the NFL. At the end of the preseason,
- 39:26Speaker 2: you have to have three mandatory off days. Usually it's
- 39:28Speaker 2: over the Labor Day weekend. for the Seahawks, which is
- 39:30Speaker 2: why a lot of people don't notice that. But this time,
- 39:33Speaker 2: Labor Day weekend is a work weekend for the Seahawks
- 39:35Speaker 2: because they play on Wednesday. So they're practicing today. Follow
- 39:39Speaker 2: me here. It's like a normal Monday. It'd be like
- 39:42Speaker 2: a normal game week Monday today. Tomorrow they'll be off
- 39:46Speaker 2: as if it was a Tuesday for a Sunday game. Saturday, Sunday,
- 39:49Speaker 2: and Monday are the main practice days. Saturday's like a Wednesday.
- 39:54Speaker 2: So Sunday during the Apple Cup, I'll be out at
- 39:56Speaker 2: Renton doing Seahawks regular Thursday.
- 39:58Speaker 3: I got you covered on that end.
- 39:59Speaker 2: I know you do. My son will be there. His
- 40:01Speaker 2: friend will be there. You'll be there. Softy will be there.
- 40:03Speaker 2: I'll try to maybe swing by on the way home
- 40:05Speaker 2: because we live right next to Husky Stadium. Suffice to say,
- 40:08Speaker 2: the Seahawks are getting at it because they play on
- 40:10Speaker 2: a Wednesday. The last episode of Hard Knocks aired, and
- 40:14Speaker 2: it's still airing. It's on HBO. It's on HBO Max
- 40:17Speaker 2: On Demand if you haven't seen it yet. We talked
- 40:19Speaker 2: yesterday about Carl Scott. Remember that about sitting down with
- 40:22Speaker 2: Trevon Diggs? And I thought it was a really good
- 40:24Speaker 2: coaching move to show him his position film at Alabama
- 40:28Speaker 2: when Carl Scott coached Trevon Diggs about seven, eight, nine
- 40:31Speaker 2: years ago. And then during that scene... Carl Scott said
- 40:35Speaker 2: to him, don't forget who the bleep you is by
- 40:39Speaker 2: showing him those. It really made digs. Everybody would. Oh,
- 40:43Speaker 2: this coach is invested in me. He's showing me my
- 40:45Speaker 2: college film. When it all started before I became an
- 40:47Speaker 2: all pro with the Cowboys. That was one coaching example
- 40:51Speaker 2: I saw from the episode. The other was Mike McDonald.
- 40:53Speaker 2: There were more. The way Mike McDonald handled telling guys
- 40:56Speaker 2: that they wanted back on the practice squad that they
- 40:58Speaker 2: were waived. I don't know if you noticed if you
- 41:01Speaker 2: saw the episode how when Aiden Hubbard walked into the
- 41:03Speaker 2: coach's office, knowing he was about to get waived, that's
- 41:06Speaker 2: the only reason you're going into the coach's office on
- 41:08Speaker 2: cut day, right?
- 41:08Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 41:09Speaker 2: They don't bring the guys that keep up to the
- 41:11Speaker 2: coach's office.
- 41:11Speaker 3: It's a pink flip situation.
- 41:13Speaker 2: Right. And you get the tap on the shoulder in
- 41:15Speaker 2: the locker room. The coach wants to see you and
- 41:17Speaker 2: you're like, your dreams are just dashed. And he walks
- 41:21Speaker 2: in the door. Aiden Hubbard walks in and Coach McDonald
- 41:23Speaker 2: in a big voice with a smile on his face said, congratulations. Congratulations.
- 41:27Speaker 2: And you could see a puzzled look on Hubbard's face.
- 41:29Speaker 2: What are you congratulating for? You just cut me. He said, hey,
- 41:32Speaker 2: we're bringing you back on the practice squad. Just hang
- 41:34Speaker 2: out for a day. We're going to clear waivers. We
- 41:37Speaker 2: want you part of the 70. We use 70. This
- 41:39Speaker 2: is a seven-man team. We've been telling you that. To
- 41:41Speaker 2: Ricky White, the wide receiver they drafted last year, who
- 41:43Speaker 2: was professing how much he wanted to stay in Seattle
- 41:45Speaker 2: when he was in the office because he knew why
- 41:47Speaker 2: he was there. He was getting cut. He said, are
- 41:50Speaker 2: you ready to be– McDonald told Ricky White in the
- 41:53Speaker 2: Hard Knocks episode, are you ready to be an everyday starter?
- 41:56Speaker 7: No.
- 41:56Speaker 2: No. But do you catch more than passes, he told him.
- 42:02Speaker 2: He said, what about special teams? Do you block? Do
- 42:06Speaker 2: you block the linebacker down on a sweet play? We
- 42:09Speaker 2: need you to be what Jake Bobo was for us
- 42:11Speaker 2: before Bobo's season-ending injury at the joint practice in Tennessee.
- 42:15Speaker 2: He said, don't just worry about catching passes. McDonald's quote was,
- 42:21Speaker 2: we pay guys $ 44 million a year to do that.
- 42:24Speaker 2: Do everything else. That's what his charge to Ricky White was.
- 42:29Speaker 3: And that's good advice though. Be versatile.
- 42:31Speaker 9: Yes.
- 42:32Speaker 2: The more you can do. Exactly. And then what I
- 42:35Speaker 2: thought was really point, it was really interesting because you
- 42:37Speaker 2: don't think of NFL coaches and relationships this way. Did
- 42:41Speaker 2: you catch quarterback coach Jake Peets in the quarterback room?
- 42:45Speaker 2: He was in the meeting room before the preseason finale
- 42:47Speaker 2: in Kansas City, before they left with Jalen Milrow. And
- 42:50Speaker 2: they were talking about how this great opportunity for him
- 42:52Speaker 2: to start and play the entire game. And at the
- 42:54Speaker 2: end of it, Jake Pete said to Milrow, I love you.
- 42:58Speaker 2: And Milrow looked at him and said, I love you too.
- 43:00Speaker 2: And I was watching. I was going, I ran it.
- 43:02Speaker 2: I said to my son, we were watching. I said,
- 43:03Speaker 2: can you run that back? He said, I love you.
- 43:05Speaker 2: And we ran it back and he did.
- 43:07Speaker 3: Dude, that is the relationship between coaches and players.
- 43:11Speaker 8: It's unusual.
- 43:12Speaker 3: Very personal.
- 43:12Speaker 2: It's unusual. And you heard Cooper Cup in the episode
- 43:15Speaker 2: talk about how unusual the relationship is here, how they
- 43:18Speaker 2: treat the 70 rather than a 53. Doesn't happen in
- 43:20Speaker 2: a lot of places. It didn't happen for him with
- 43:22Speaker 2: the Rams. It is different. And the investment of Carl
- 43:26Speaker 2: Scott watching college film with his guy and saying, be
- 43:30Speaker 2: the blank who you is. And don't forget who you are.
- 43:34Speaker 2: And the quarterback's coach telling the third string quarterback who's
- 43:37Speaker 2: never going to see the field, I love you. And
- 43:39Speaker 2: the quarterback's telling him, I love you too. It is different.
- 43:42Speaker 2: It is different. I thought that was interesting. I liked it.
- 43:44Speaker 2: Insight to the coaching. Up next, the owners have changed
- 43:48Speaker 2: for the Seahawks. I think you know that. But O'Kozla
- 43:51Speaker 2: publicly declares who he wants to raise the 12 flag.
- 43:56Speaker 2: We might like this. And some of the other festivities
- 43:58Speaker 2: are lined up for Wednesday, the opening day of the
- 44:00Speaker 2: NFL season. We'll talk about how big of a day
- 44:02Speaker 2: that is in this town and what's all going to
- 44:04Speaker 2: be going on. 1130, we'll read back your text, your
- 44:06Speaker 2: talkbacks that Jessamyn loves. We'll do that at 1130. All
- 44:09Speaker 2: that coming up on 93.3 KJRFM.
- 44:24Speaker 1: Now, from the Star Reynolds Sports Desk, your 93.3 KJR
- 44:28Speaker 1: FM Sports Headlines.
- 44:30Speaker 2: Good morning. Headlines are brought to you by Frostbrook Coors Light.
- 44:33Speaker 2: Cold as the Rockies. The Mariners won 2-3 in Boston
- 44:37Speaker 2: thanks to their 8-3 win yesterday. 12 more hits for
- 44:40Speaker 2: the offense, beating a playoff team. Manager Dan Wilson yanked
- 44:44Speaker 2: shaky starter Bryce Miller after just 65 pitches with a
- 44:49Speaker 2: 4-1 lead. A little more aggressive managing of the bullpen
- 44:52Speaker 2: by the manager now that it's September. But the Trash
- 44:55Speaker 2: Cans beat Chicago last night, so just another day off
- 44:58Speaker 2: the calendar in the race for the American League West title.
- 45:01Speaker 2: The Mariners are still five games out of first place,
- 45:03Speaker 2: 22 games remaining. The next one, tonight at the Arden
- 45:07Speaker 2: Soto against the A's, Kate Anderson making his third Major
- 45:09Speaker 2: League start for the M's tonight. The Seahawks are back
- 45:12Speaker 2: on the practice field today after a three-day break. Their
- 45:15Speaker 2: opener against New England is in six days. They made
- 45:19Speaker 2: a practice squad move today. Here comes the churn of
- 45:22Speaker 2: the practice squad. Remember, that was just an initial one.
- 45:24Speaker 2: They signed veteran offensive tackle Bobby Hart, who they had
- 45:27Speaker 2: throughout training camp, and they released defensive tackle Seo Samalo.
- 45:31Speaker 2: Seo Samalo was the undrafted rookie from Kansas State, the
- 45:34Speaker 2: nose tackle that Hard Knocks was featuring as someone a
- 45:37Speaker 2: long shot trying to make the team. He's off the
- 45:39Speaker 2: practice squad for now. I have a feeling they'll ask
- 45:41Speaker 2: him to come back on if he doesn't get Signed
- 45:44Speaker 2: by somebody else. The SEC this morning has filed a
- 45:47Speaker 2: lawsuit against LSU, its president, its athletic director, and coach
- 45:50Speaker 2: Lane Kiffin over Kiffin bringing NFL players onto his Tiger
- 45:53Speaker 2: roster for this season. Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr wrote
- 45:57Speaker 2: a letter to the SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey urging him
- 46:00Speaker 2: to take all measures available, including kicking LSU out of
- 46:04Speaker 2: the league if they use NFL players.
- 46:06Speaker 3: I mean, I'm so down right now.
- 46:09Speaker 2: It's just absurd. They're not kicking him out of the league.
- 46:12Speaker 2: That's not happening. Bruce Feldman talked to us, if you
- 46:15Speaker 2: missed that interview. He's just here to watch what's going
- 46:19Speaker 2: to happen and the precedent that might be set here.
- 46:22Speaker 2: This is like in real time, right? Because as Bruce said,
- 46:24Speaker 2: the games begin this weekend.
- 46:27Speaker 12: Yep.
- 46:27Speaker 2: 48 hours from when the SEC play starts kicking off
- 46:29Speaker 2: with LSU playing Clemson. If you missed that interview with
- 46:33Speaker 2: Bruce Feldman, it's on the iHeartRadio app, 933KGR, or our website, 933KGR. com.
- 46:38Speaker 2: The NBA announced severe punishment for the Los Angeles Clippers,
- 46:41Speaker 2: including the loss of five future first-round picks, a fine
- 46:45Speaker 2: of $ 30 million, and a year-long suspension for owner Steve Ballmer.
- 46:48Speaker 3: That's an insane.
- 46:50Speaker 2: That's a pretty hefty... Five.
- 46:53Speaker 3: Future first-round picks? That's what caught my attention.
- 46:56Speaker 2: And they're keeping Ballmer away from anything to do with
- 46:58Speaker 2: an NBA arena, the Clippers, or anything for an entire
- 47:00Speaker 2: year for violating salary cap rules in a case involving
- 47:04Speaker 2: outside employment for star Kawhi Leonard. In a statement, the
- 47:07Speaker 2: NBA said its near-year-long investigation found, quote, a pattern of
- 47:12Speaker 2: misconduct and multiple significant roles violations by the Clippers organization,
- 47:15Speaker 2: a prior offender of salary cap circumvention rules. As I mentioned... Yes,
- 47:21Speaker 2: he was the whale that I've been told may be
- 47:24Speaker 2: buying the Seahawks. This would have kept the whale from
- 47:27Speaker 2: coming ashore. This would have kept him out to sea.
- 47:30Speaker 2: The NFL would have said, oh, no, if you're about
- 47:32Speaker 2: to get suspended by the NBA, we want nothing to
- 47:34Speaker 2: do with you buying an NFL franchise.
- 47:34Speaker 3: I mean, and rightfully so.
- 47:36Speaker 2: Caden Clark to the Sounders is official, as reported yesterday.
- 47:39Speaker 2: 11 goals and 19 assists in 116 career MLS regular
- 47:44Speaker 2: season matches. The 23-year-old attacking midfielder acquired from D.C. United
- 47:48Speaker 2: for a second-round pick of the Sounders in 2028. Our
- 47:51Speaker 2: own Jackson Feltz is telling us that a second round
- 47:53Speaker 2: pick in the MLS is extremely little value. BC United
- 47:57Speaker 2: also gets some general allocation money if Clark is on
- 48:00Speaker 2: the roster next year. I looked him up. Clark is,
- 48:02Speaker 2: he weighs 152 pounds. I'm used to dealing with 285
- 48:07Speaker 2: and 325 pound athletes. A soccer midfielder, 152 pounds. I mean, yes.
- 48:13Speaker 3: I mean, they have to run constantly.
- 48:16Speaker 2: Especially the midfielders.
- 48:17Speaker 7: Yes.
- 48:17Speaker 2: They run, yes. They run their butts off. Literally. Wednesday
- 48:23Speaker 2: night is the start of the NFL regular season, and
- 48:26Speaker 2: it's right here in our backyard at Lumen Field. That's
- 48:29Speaker 2: what the honor of being a defending champion is. You
- 48:33Speaker 2: get to play the very first game of the NFL
- 48:35Speaker 2: season at your home yard, and that's what's happening at
- 48:38Speaker 2: Lumen Field when the Seahawks rematch of the Super Bowl
- 48:40Speaker 2: 60 against the New England Patriots. 520 kickoff on Wednesday.
- 48:44Speaker 2: 49451 at Tacoma Dodge text line. Whom would you like
- 48:51Speaker 2: to see raise the 12 flag right before kickoff? Someone
- 48:58Speaker 2: posed that question to Vinod Khosla on Twitter X yesterday.
- 49:01Speaker 3: And he is active.
- 49:02Speaker 2: And he responded because he responds to everything we're already learning.
- 49:06Speaker 3: I like that.
- 49:08Speaker 2: You know who he said should do it?
- 49:11Speaker 4: I do.
- 49:12Speaker 2: Jody Allen. Somebody asked Vinod Kozla yesterday on Twitter X,
- 49:19Speaker 2: are you guys, meaning the Kozla family, the new owners,
- 49:21Speaker 2: raising the 12th man flag at the opener, or will
- 49:23Speaker 2: you let Jody do it one last time as a goodbye?
- 49:26Speaker 2: And Vinod Kozla wrote back on Twitter X, quote, I'd
- 49:29Speaker 2: love to have Jody do it.
- 49:32Speaker 3: So classy.
- 49:32Speaker 6: 49451.
- 49:33Speaker 2: So classy. Would you like Jody Allen to raise the flag? Yes.
- 49:36Speaker 9: Yes.
- 49:38Speaker 2: I'll text in.
- 49:39Speaker 7: You want me to text in?
- 49:41Speaker 3: Kind of have to hit some buttons back here. But
- 49:45Speaker 3: I love that.
- 49:46Speaker 7: I love it so much, especially after watching the ring
- 49:49Speaker 7: ceremony and everything that she did to make that that
- 49:52Speaker 7: night so special. I asked John Schneider in the locker
- 49:56Speaker 7: room after the Super Bowl win, you know, just.
- 50:01Speaker 3: What it meant.
- 50:02Speaker 7: I asked him what it meant to watch her hoist that,
- 50:05Speaker 7: and it was the first time he caught a breath
- 50:08Speaker 7: and was emotionally very invested in seeing her raise that trophy.
- 50:16Speaker 2: I can tell you that the players, and especially the coaches,
- 50:18Speaker 2: and definitely the general manager, maybe most of all the
- 50:21Speaker 2: general manager who works most closely with the owner, really
- 50:24Speaker 2: appreciate how Jody Allen handled that situation. Mm-hmm. She was
- 50:29Speaker 2: in some ways an accidental owner after her brother's death.
- 50:33Speaker 2: She was the steward by the chair of the Paul
- 50:36Speaker 2: Allen estate, the owner, de facto owner of the Seahawks
- 50:40Speaker 2: in 2018 after her brother died. And the way she
- 50:45Speaker 2: stayed out of the way yet stayed involved, they really,
- 50:49Speaker 2: Pete Carroll respected her for that. John Schneider respected her
- 50:52Speaker 2: for that. Mike McDonald really appreciates that. She let the
- 50:55Speaker 2: football guys do the football stuff. And not every owner
- 50:59Speaker 2: does that, as we know.
- 51:02Speaker 3: Jerry Jones much?
- 51:03Speaker 2: Correct. Robert Kraft, going on and on. Even the Baltimore
- 51:07Speaker 2: owner that Mike McDonald worked for, he was very much
- 51:12Speaker 2: involved in the day-to-day of Harbaugh's regime while McDonald was
- 51:15Speaker 2: an assistant coach in Baltimore.
- 51:16Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 51:18Speaker 2: Now, it is worth mentioning, and it would be naive
- 51:21Speaker 2: to not to, that there is an entirely different opinion
- 51:24Speaker 2: of Jody Allen's stewardship of the Portland Trailblazers down in
- 51:27Speaker 2: Oregon because of how that franchise has gone since Paul
- 51:30Speaker 2: Allen's death. And I acknowledge that. But I'm not even
- 51:35Speaker 2: going to get into the weeds about that other than
- 51:37Speaker 2: to say what she has done up here has been exemplary.
- 51:41Speaker 2: It was Jody Allen. It bears repeating. It was Jody
- 51:44Speaker 2: Allen who, at the fork in the road of the
- 51:47Speaker 2: franchise's fate decided to take John Schneider's path forward and
- 51:52Speaker 2: not Pete Carroll. Jody Allen fired Pete Carroll. Carroll wanted
- 51:55Speaker 2: to stay, but Carroll also wanted to keep his offensive
- 51:59Speaker 2: and defensive coordinators. He wanted to stay loyal to his coaches,
- 52:02Speaker 2: and he wanted to run it back in the same
- 52:04Speaker 2: system that had been here for 15 years. And in
- 52:08Speaker 2: a postseason meeting after they missed the playoffs that season,
- 52:10Speaker 2: 2023 season, Mm-hmm. Jody Allen said, nope, Pete, we love you.
- 52:17Speaker 2: Thank you. You gave us the best 15 years, the
- 52:19Speaker 2: franchise of sustained excellence we've ever had. You brought us
- 52:22Speaker 2: our first championship. But I'm choosing John Schneider's way. And
- 52:25Speaker 2: for the first time, I'm going to have the president
- 52:27Speaker 2: of football operation, the guy in charge of the actual
- 52:30Speaker 2: football ops, not be you, Pete Carroll. It's going to
- 52:33Speaker 2: be John Schneider. Because remember, Pete Carroll hired John Schneider.
- 52:37Speaker 2: It was bass-ackwards compared to how most Four franchises in
- 52:41Speaker 2: sports work.
- 52:41Speaker 3: He was given the keys.
- 52:42Speaker 2: He was the executive vice president for football. And he
- 52:46Speaker 2: had the final say over the first time 30-something-year-old GM
- 52:49Speaker 2: 17 years ago when they got here. Snyder arrived after
- 52:53Speaker 2: Todd Lewicki hired Pete Carroll from USC. Paul Allen sent
- 52:59Speaker 2: Todd Lewicki, for those who just moved to Seattle or
- 53:01Speaker 2: just became Seahawks fans conveniently last year or something. It
- 53:05Speaker 2: was Paul Allen sending Todd Laywicky to USC to get
- 53:07Speaker 2: Pete Carroll to Seattle. And how he got him here
- 53:11Speaker 2: was he gave Carroll the keys to the whole franchise,
- 53:13Speaker 2: as Jessamyn puts it, and said, you are in charge
- 53:16Speaker 2: of all football, including hiring a GM. And yes, it
- 53:20Speaker 2: was a symbiotic relationship, but it was Pete Carroll with
- 53:22Speaker 2: the ultimate authority. When they had draft picks that they
- 53:25Speaker 2: were trying to decide who to pick, it was Pete
- 53:26Speaker 2: Carroll's choice.
- 53:27Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 53:28Speaker 3: I think we knew the hierarchy there.
- 53:31Speaker 2: It was unusual in an NFL team for the general
- 53:34Speaker 2: manager to be answering to the coach, but that's what
- 53:36Speaker 2: it was. And it was after the 2023 season that
- 53:39Speaker 2: it was Jody Allen. It wasn't John Schneider. It was
- 53:42Speaker 2: Jody Allen who said, uh-uh, we're done. Thank you. You've
- 53:47Speaker 2: served us well. We're going with John Schneider and a
- 53:49Speaker 2: new coach.
- 53:50Speaker 7: And she made the right choice at the right time, too.
- 53:54Speaker 3: It wasn't out of nowhere. It was, OK, you had
- 53:58Speaker 3: your time.
- 53:59Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 54:00Speaker 7: And I appreciate all of that time. But the way
- 54:03Speaker 7: that decision was made was in that fashion.
- 54:06Speaker 2: And Pete Carroll didn't just say, hey, thanks, ma'am, and left.
- 54:08Speaker 2: He fought to keep his job. He argued back. He
- 54:12Speaker 2: talked about why you should stay. I don't know this
- 54:15Speaker 2: for a fact, but I'm assuming that he might have said,
- 54:17Speaker 2: you're turning the keys over to somebody who's never done
- 54:19Speaker 2: this before, full time and full authority. And John Schneider,
- 54:23Speaker 2: you sure about this? And she said, yes. And she
- 54:27Speaker 2: was exactly right. She got John Schneider in charge and
- 54:30Speaker 2: John Schneider brought the defense was broken. They were last
- 54:33Speaker 2: in the league and most of the metrics against the run,
- 54:37Speaker 2: the identity of the defense was shot. The culture had
- 54:41Speaker 2: changed to the point where they were smoking cigars after
- 54:43Speaker 2: it's season ending loss in Arizona. It was different. And
- 54:49Speaker 2: Bert cold was there watching that in Arizona. He was
- 54:51Speaker 2: sitting next to me in the press conference. We could
- 54:52Speaker 2: smell the cigar smoke coming in from the locker room. It,
- 54:55Speaker 2: it had to change and Jody Allen did it. And
- 54:58Speaker 2: it was John Schneider does hiring, fixing the defense with
- 55:01Speaker 2: a defensive first head coach. The most innovative defensive mind
- 55:04Speaker 2: he found was Mike McDonald. And the rest has become
- 55:08Speaker 2: short lived history the last two years, including the Superbowl.
- 55:12Speaker 2: So that was Jody Allen. And I believe that would
- 55:14Speaker 2: be a very fitting tribute to Jody Allen to let
- 55:17Speaker 2: her raise the 12 flag, because let's face it. She
- 55:19Speaker 2: really hasn't said goodbye. She never really said hello, but
- 55:23Speaker 2: she now hasn't said goodbye. It's, The Kozels are in.
- 55:27Speaker 2: Now the season's beginning. Now the sale's going to be official.
- 55:30Speaker 2: And here we go. And Jody Allen just kind of go.
- 55:34Speaker 2: Hershey and Burt Cole just kind of depart without ever being.
- 55:38Speaker 2: a chance to say goodbye and that would do that.
- 55:39Speaker 3: It was a part of Paula Allen's will.
- 55:41Speaker 7: It wasn't like she wanted to sell the team. It
- 55:44Speaker 7: was a part of her dearly departed brother's wish is
- 55:48Speaker 7: for the sale of this team to go to his
- 55:51Speaker 7: various charitable endeavors.
- 55:54Speaker 3: And that was always a part of it.
- 55:57Speaker 7: And I think that when I heard Vinod talk about that,
- 56:03Speaker 7: that it's so rare that you get to buy a
- 56:05Speaker 7: champion and, I thought that that spoke a lot for
- 56:09Speaker 7: his awareness of the situation as well. Because this was
- 56:13Speaker 7: not a team in trouble. This was not a situation where, oh,
- 56:18Speaker 7: we need a new owner. It was a very rare situation.
- 56:22Speaker 7: And people need to remember that.
- 56:23Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 56:25Speaker 2: The other thing, I'm looking at the text line, 206-49451,
- 56:28Speaker 2: the Tacoma Dodge text line. 206 is absolutely Jody Allen
- 56:32Speaker 2: should raise the 12 flag. Needs some kind of gesture
- 56:35Speaker 2: to ease the anxiety of new ownership. What is the
- 56:39Speaker 2: anxiety of new ownership? Is it just the fact that
- 56:40Speaker 2: it's a new owner?
- 56:41Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 56:42Speaker 7: I think AI puts people a little bit on their heels,
- 56:45Speaker 7: to be honest.
- 56:46Speaker 2: And the fact they don't live here.
- 56:48Speaker 3: Aren't from here.
- 56:50Speaker 2: Well, they don't live here.
- 56:52Speaker 3: They might get a place.
- 56:54Speaker 2: Well, I've asked that question. Yeah. And John Schneider said
- 56:58Speaker 2: he doesn't know. He said that there has been some
- 57:01Speaker 2: talk of Neil Kozlo, the son, perhaps moving here to
- 57:04Speaker 2: Seattle and living here. But they live in the Bay Area.
- 57:08Speaker 2: And that alone makes people nervous because anyone who's been
- 57:12Speaker 2: here for 20 years or more knows what happens when
- 57:15Speaker 2: you have owners of teams that don't live here. But
- 57:17Speaker 2: that is the norm. And the fact is that no
- 57:20Speaker 2: local owner stepped forward to buy the Seahawks, and that's
- 57:22Speaker 2: why no local owner owns them anymore. But I get
- 57:27Speaker 2: it because it's new and it's different. It's the first
- 57:29Speaker 2: time in 29 years that the Seahawks have been owned
- 57:32Speaker 2: by anybody but the Allens.
- 57:33Speaker 7: And the Coles are not necessarily a household name that
- 57:36Speaker 7: you would know either.
- 57:37Speaker 3: The Allens are here in Seattle.
- 57:40Speaker 7: So I also understand that hesitation where, who the heck
- 57:44Speaker 7: is this?
- 57:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 57:45Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 57:46Speaker 3: I get it.
- 57:46Speaker 2: That's exactly true.
- 57:47Speaker 3: Yes.
- 57:48Speaker 2: Is it AI?
- 57:48Speaker 7: Yes.
- 57:50Speaker 2: Help me out. Is it the AI? Is it the
- 57:51Speaker 2: fact that they are from the Bay Area? Is it
- 57:53Speaker 2: the fact that Vinod Khosla owns 3% of the 49ers,
- 57:56Speaker 2: which he has to divest from? Is it the fact
- 57:58Speaker 2: that he's sitting like the Steelers when he moved to
- 58:00Speaker 2: America from India in 1976? Or is it just the
- 58:04Speaker 2: mere fact that they aren't the Allens and that they
- 58:07Speaker 2: aren't from here as to what your anxiety is of
- 58:10Speaker 2: the new ownership?
- 58:12Speaker 3: How lucky are we, though, to have so much local ownership?
- 58:15Speaker 7: Right.
- 58:16Speaker 3: And I mean, that is rare.
- 58:18Speaker 2: It is.
- 58:19Speaker 3: I don't think people understand how rare that is.
- 58:21Speaker 7: But when you're blessed with something like that, you kind
- 58:24Speaker 7: of forget that you're very lucky.
- 58:27Speaker 2: But we've had it for generations here. The Sonics were
- 58:29Speaker 2: owned locally until they weren't. And then we saw what
- 58:31Speaker 2: happened when the Sonics weren't owned locally.
- 58:32Speaker 6: They were gone.
- 58:33Speaker 3: There is a fear factor.
- 58:34Speaker 2: The Mariners have been, well, aside from the Nintendo ownership
- 58:38Speaker 2: based in Japan, the Mariners have largely been largely locally owned.
- 58:45Speaker 2: The Seahawks, of course, even before. I mean, it was
- 58:48Speaker 2: a Nordstrom family. They were the original owners of the
- 58:51Speaker 2: Seahawks here in Seattle in the 1970s. So yes, we
- 58:55Speaker 2: are spoiled. You're right, Jessamyn.
- 58:57Speaker 3: I think it's very lucky. Yeah.
- 58:59Speaker 7: So I guess I would just say you were saying 49451,
- 59:03Speaker 7: what is your hesitation? I would just say that if
- 59:07Speaker 7: that's what your hesitation is, it is very rare to
- 59:10Speaker 7: actually have that.
- 59:12Speaker 2: But it is different. And so I can understand the trepidation.
- 59:15Speaker 2: I also reiterate that the NFL loves, not likes, loves
- 59:18Speaker 2: the Seahawks being up here. They love the geographic footprint.
- 59:22Speaker 2: They love the anchor tenet. They love the fact that
- 59:24Speaker 2: the Seahawks are a hugely successful franchise financially and on
- 59:27Speaker 2: the field, and it's in the Pacific Northwest with no
- 59:30Speaker 2: other franchise 700 miles within it. It loves that it
- 59:32Speaker 2: has Montana and Idaho and Alaska and Hawaii and Oregon
- 59:38Speaker 2: as all of their footprint. They love all of that.
- 59:41Speaker 2: BC and Alberta, they're Seahawks fans.
- 59:43Speaker 3: I think we get Montana, too.
- 59:45Speaker 2: As I said, Montana for sure.
- 59:46Speaker 6: Oh, you did.
- 59:46Speaker 2: Okay. I missed it.
- 59:47Speaker 12: My bad.
- 59:48Speaker 2: The Seahawks. Festivities around the opener on Wednesday, a 520
- 59:52Speaker 2: kickoff Soundgarden. Remember them?
- 59:56Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 59:56Speaker 2: 1990s grunge when I first moved here. They're going to
- 59:58Speaker 2: reunite and perform at halftime.
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: Who's lead singing?
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: Well, they're going to have guest appearances by the pretty
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: reckless singer Taylor Momsen. They're going to have Pearl Jam
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: guitarist Mike McCready joining them as well. Amazing.
- 1:00:12Speaker 7: Amazing.
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: And Soundgarden played in 2015. The last time the Seahawks
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: opened an NFL season because they were defending Super Bowl
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: champion was September 2015 on a Thursday night against Green Bay.
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: I was their cover net for the News Tribune. And
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: Soundgarden played outside in the North Lot before the kickoff.
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: They played outside?
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: Yeah, they were outside.
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: That's so awesome.
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: There was a stage outside in the North Lot where
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: the Old Kingdom was. And Soundgarden played that night. So
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: as a nod to that, the last time they were
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: Super Bowl champs kicking off the season, Soundgarden's going to
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: play in the stadium at halftime. Before the game outside
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: the stadium, country music legend Luke Bryan's going to play
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: on a stage in the parking lot. I assume the
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: North Lot.
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: I will be there for that.
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: That's part of the USAA's Salute to 250 kickoff concert.
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: It's going to start at Lumenfield's North Lot at 2.30
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: our time. And his official salute To service partner of
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: the Seattle Seahawks and the NFL, USA is going to
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: provide a special VIP viewing section at the concert for
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: active duty service members, veterans, and USA members. I should
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: go check that out.
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: Uh-huh.
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: I'd check two of those boxes anyway.
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: I don't know. I'll drive you down.
- 1:01:23Speaker 12: I'm going.
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: Following the concert, USA is also going to welcome 300
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: local active duty service members to the Seahawks regular season
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: opener against the Patriots. It kicks off at 520 on NBC.
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: That was from our friends at USA. So, Not only
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: do you get a VIP, if you're active duty military
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: or you're a veteran or you're a USAA member, you
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: get to go into a VIP section for the Luke
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: Bryan concert before kickoff Wednesday. Then 300 of you are
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: going to get to go. If you're active duty service members,
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: you get 300 of you are going to get drawn
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: in to come in and watch the game. Free tickets.
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: Let's go.
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: That's from USA, our friends at USAA.
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: We are big fans of them.
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: We are.
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: Because we're going to be in Times Square the second Saturday,
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: second Friday. of December 12th for the Army-Navy game.
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: Live show.
- 1:02:12Speaker 7: Yes.
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: Jess McIntyre. How many years have we done this? Like seven,
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: eight years now?
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: This will be my fifth with you. I know you
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: did it before I came on.
- 1:02:21Speaker 4: Ah. Yes.
- 1:02:22Speaker 3: But this will be my fifth straight.
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: Awesome.
- 1:02:25Speaker 3: I've got a pretty decent record.
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: You do. And you have a pretty good, decent record
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: of lining up guests as well for that. Oh, yes.
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: That's my job.
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: Tomorrow, we're going to have our high school football Friday
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: segment kicking off. Graham Kapowson against Lake Stevens is the
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: featured game of the weekend out here in these parts.
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: Number three and number four teams in 4A. And the
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: Graham Kapowson coach, Jeff Logan, is going to be on
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: our show tomorrow. Up next is your chance to be
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: a part of the show, 49451 or Talkbacks. Go to
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: the iHeartRadio app or 933KJR. com. Hit the red Talkback button
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: and we'll play back yours. Talkbacks next on 93.3 KJRFM.
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: Anyway, we do have some talk.
- 1:03:06Speaker 13: Shout out Bothell. Go Bothell. The boys flew all the
- 1:03:11Speaker 13: way to Honolulu, Hawaii, and they're going to play their
- 1:03:15Speaker 13: first game of the season on the Big Island.
- 1:03:18Speaker 8: Go 1-0, boys.
- 1:03:19Speaker 13: Shout out Bothell.
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: Hey there, Greg and Jessamyn.
- 1:03:23Speaker 14: I just want to know, did the Mariners play tough enough?
- 1:03:30Speaker 14: Did they play hard? Did they get over? Did they
- 1:03:34Speaker 14: score the run? Did they finally play tough enough?
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: Either way, their season is still over. Go Hawks!
- 1:03:47Speaker 13: Julio Rodriguez has attention deficit disorder.
- 1:03:54Speaker 5: I really do.
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: I think that's his problem.
- 1:03:56Speaker 13: And I think that's part of Randy Rosarito's problem, too.
- 1:04:01Speaker 13: Jody raising the 12th man flag would perfectly, perfectly round
- 1:04:07Speaker 13: out her ownership tenure as Seahawks owner. She comes in.
- 1:04:13Speaker 13: She does everything right. She pushes all the right buttons,
- 1:04:18Speaker 13: makes all the right hires, makes all the right fires
- 1:04:22Speaker 13: and wins a Super Bowl and then goes out on top,
- 1:04:25Speaker 13: sells it to a winning family. Let her raise the flag.
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: Go out on top, Jody. I agree. Yeah, Bothell High School,
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: they're playing at Moanalua High School in Honolulu.
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: I know there were a lot of topics that just got.
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: Yeah, they're playing Friday night in Honolulu. That's their opening game.
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: And then week two, they play Lake Stevens. Bothell isn't
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: messing around, man. The Booster Club must have been in
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: high gear to fund that trip. I mean, public school,
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: good to go to Hawaii for their opener?
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: That's pretty great.
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: That's a pretty cool deal.
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: We have a lot that have come in a little late.
- 1:05:05Speaker 7: But I do like to reward those who actually listen
- 1:05:08Speaker 7: to us and contribute.
- 1:05:09Speaker 11: Wake up.
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: Go pee.
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: Grab keys.
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: Coffee.
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: Go to work.
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: Drop off kids. That's what I do all my day.
- 1:05:19Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: I get home.
- 1:05:21Speaker 11: Make food.
- 1:05:22Speaker 12: Get work.
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: Go keys.
- 1:05:25Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: I eat.
- 1:05:27Speaker 13: Then I go to sleep.
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: What was that?
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: I don't know that.
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: Like I said, the bar's low. She's going to put
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: you on the air.
- 1:05:36Speaker 7: Because you're listening, and I appreciate you, and you didn't swear.
- 1:05:40Speaker 3: Because it's fun. Hold on.
- 1:05:44Speaker 7: This one is a little more relevant.
- 1:05:46Speaker 10: Greg, Jeff, happy Thursday. Yes, it's nervous with new owners.
- 1:05:52Speaker 10: When the Sonics left with an out-of-towner, they were not
- 1:05:54Speaker 10: a good franchise. They were not a good team. You
- 1:05:57Speaker 10: can't take a winner like the Seattle Seahawks out of Seattle.
- 1:06:01Speaker 4: Go Hawks.
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: I get it.
- 1:06:03Speaker 7: Not worried about that.
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: 503 from the text line at the Comodage text line, 49451.
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: The 503 says, I'm nervous as a member. As I remember,
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: before Paul Allen purchased the Seahawks, they almost moved away.
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: They did.
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: He saved them.
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: That was, of course, the temper. They actually moved some
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: of their furniture out of Kirkland. to Southern California.
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: I remember hearing about that.
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: I was here. I covered it for the Associated Press. Actually, no,
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: I didn't cover it. That was 1996, if I remember.
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: I was living here. I was in the Army still.
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: And that was Ken Bering saying, the kingdom isn't fit.
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: We're going to have to move. The whole earthquake ceiling tiles,
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: the cement ceiling tiles falling down. That was not ideal.
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: Pre-game and Mariner's Indians game I was at. All that happened.
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: And then Right. Paul Allen stopped him from moving as
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: a local owner. That's true. That's someone who's been here
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: a day or two.
- 1:06:57Speaker 4: That's true.
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: Then Ken Griffey Jr. saved the Mariners around that same time.
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: Wasn't it?
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: Slate Gordon saved the Mariners. A special session of the
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: state legislature to create... T-Mobile Park. I mean, there was
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: no T-Mobile Park without a special vote. I don't know
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: if you were living here at the time. I wasn't.
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: The state voters voted down a new baseball stadium. It
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: went to the ballot.
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: No, I do remember learning about that when I was
- 1:07:25Speaker 3: going to move out.
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: And we voted as— I was living here at the time,
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: and we voted down— we said no, and they were going
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: to move to St. Petersburg, where now the Rays play,
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: because St. Petersburg had their Tropicana Field, their dome. And
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: Slade Gordon, the then U.S. Senator— strong-armed a special session
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: of the legislature. They brought all the state legislators back
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: to Olympia and basically approved a law that made the
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: stadium district, that made T-Mobile Park. That's what happened. It's
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: Slade Gordon. There should be a statue in front of
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: T-Mobile Park of Slade Gordon.
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: That's a pretty bomb-ass name, too. Okay, we have a
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: few more.
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: Hey, Greg. Hey, Jess. So I got a weird, crazy
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: question for you, Greg.
- 1:08:06Speaker 8: Which would you choose? Beating Navy for the next 50 years?
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: Yes, yes, yes. That's what I choose.
- 1:08:12Speaker 8: Or Army gets to the national championship game but loses
- 1:08:16Speaker 8: in a blowout?
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: Not even close. Loveless than you guys. Great question. Not
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: even close. Beat Navy 50 years in a row. Are
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: you kidding me? That would be glorious. Instead of the natty?
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: If Army went to the national championship, that would be
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: a dream enough. Who cares if they won it or not?
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: If they got blown out? Are you kidding me?
- 1:08:34Speaker 4: Sure.
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: I would absolutely take Army or Navy 50 years in
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: a row. I have all my Navy friends. Shall we
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: continue about this? The very first moment I became a
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: cadet at West Point, it was screamed at. Beat Navy, sir.
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: Beat Navy, ma'am. That's all I said for four years. Well,
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: after a while, I was an upperclassman and they said
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: it to me. That's all you were weaned on the
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: whole time. And then I went there. We went two
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: and two. Navy was 0-10 in the Meadowlands. We were
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: 5-5 my sophomore year. Freaking dude for Navy in like
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: a windstorm kicks a field goal at the buzzer and
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: beats us. 0-10 Navy. The squids beat us at 0-10.
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: The squids? The squids. Beating the squids 50 years in
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: a row, I'd be... Yeah, there's not much else I'd
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: trade for that.
- 1:09:19Speaker 3: Squids are sentient beings.
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: That would be awesome. It never would happen, but that
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: would be awesome.
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: Latecomers, hold on.
- 1:09:26Speaker 9: Don't get me wrong. I definitely would love to see
- 1:09:29Speaker 9: this Mariner team in the playoffs. They're going to go
- 1:09:32Speaker 9: down as the best, worst team to make the playoffs
- 1:09:35Speaker 9: if they happen to sneak.
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: Their way in.
- 1:09:37Speaker 9: But let's be honest, Mariner fans. They're five games out.
- 1:09:41Speaker 9: We have the easiest schedule in the MLB. We're going
- 1:09:44Speaker 9: to fall about a game and a half short of
- 1:09:46Speaker 9: the playoffs. Dan's going to get fired. We're going to
- 1:09:48Speaker 9: be better off next year. All I'm looking forward to
- 1:09:50Speaker 9: is Apple Cup Sunday.
- 1:09:52Speaker 4: Go Dawgs.
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: Apple Cup, 1 p.m. here on 93.3 KJR FM at
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: Husky Stadium. You know, Larry Stone brought up something interesting
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: yesterday when I was driving around late in the afternoon
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: on Dave Softy Muller and Dick Fane's show. He doesn't
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: think Dan Wilson even wants to come back.
- 1:10:09Speaker 3: He was put in a precarious situation.
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: He was pulled out of retirement, very happy with his wife, Andy,
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: just hanging out, doing whatever he was doing, a little
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: bit of Mariner stuff, a figurehead that would show up
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: for events. And then he got pulled out of it
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: when they fired Scott Service. And John Stanton and Jerry
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: DiPoto said, come manage this team. He had never managed
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: anything but a softball team. A girls softball team was
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: the only thing he had ever managed.
- 1:10:32Speaker 3: He was living his life.
- 1:10:33Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: Yeah. And so Larry Stone's point is, even if they
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: made the playoffs, he doesn't want to compete. He didn't
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: want to do this. He wasn't picked to do this
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: to begin with.
- 1:10:42Speaker 3: But he did it so well last year.
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: Did he? Or did he have a catcher that had
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: 60 home runs?
- 1:10:47Speaker 3: The way that he... I was in the clubhouse a
- 1:10:50Speaker 3: lot last year. I'll be down there today.
- 1:10:53Speaker 7: The way I see him as a leader, I think
- 1:10:57Speaker 7: he is more former player than manager.
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: I'll give you that. But he knows how to relate
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: to these guys. And what I saw, I was very
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: impressed by.
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: Somebody's 360 is saying garbage halftime music for the show.
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: The Soundgarden show.
- 1:11:15Speaker 3: I mean, without Chris Cornell, obviously it takes a step back.
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: I think that's the Taylor Monson.
- 1:11:20Speaker 4: But.
- 1:11:22Speaker 6: um.
- 1:11:23Speaker 7: I i still really really love their music i'm.
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: Gonna go 808 there's no anxiety it's hawaii isn't it
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: hawaii yeah aloha there's no anxiety with by the way
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: i'm going to hawaii next week the seahawks have a
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: five-day break after.
- 1:11:38Speaker 3: The opener that's where you're going.
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: I'm finally gonna go see our daughter oh gosh my
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: wife and i are finally she's been there since june Well,
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: she's on a ship in Japan for part of it.
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: But yeah, we're going to go to Hawaii the day
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: after the game.
- 1:11:50Speaker 7: Better be only Army and Coast Guard fans that come
- 1:11:54Speaker 7: up to you and say hi.
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: There's a lot of Navy in Hawaii. She's working with
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: a lot of Navy.
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: I'm well aware. I know people that have been stationed there.
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: There's a lot of Navy there. The 206 says, the
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: sentiment I keep hearing is, quote, some foreign tech billionaire
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: who lives in San Francisco just bought the Seahawks as
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: an investment. I don't think that's a fair assessment, but
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: makes people uneasy. Yeah, I get that. 253. Of course
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: I've been to Army-Navy. It says, I have never been
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: to Army-Navy. After hearing your enthusiasm, it's a bucket list item.
- 1:12:26Speaker 4: Good.
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: I hope so. Do you prefer New York or Philadelphia?
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: I've been to neither. It's not even close. It's a
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: thousand times better in Philadelphia. The entire city just wraps
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: itself around it. New York, it just gets swallowed up.
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: It's too big. And it's also not played in New York.
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: It's played in Across the river in the Meadowlands in
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: a swamp. I can't stand the Meadowlands.
- 1:12:49Speaker 3: It's so bad.
- 1:12:51Speaker 7: Thank you for crapping on New Jersey.
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: It's awful.
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: People think I'm from there.
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: No, it's awful.
- 1:12:56Speaker 3: And it drives me insane.
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: It's awful. It'd be like putting.
- 1:12:58Speaker 3: Cape May is the only cool part.
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: I can't even... Point Pleasant's cool. But I can't even
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: think of... I can't think of anything cool about the Meadowlands.
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: Not around it. Not the parking. Not getting there. Not
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: getting out of it.
- 1:13:10Speaker 3: People, like when they say New York, first of all,
- 1:13:13Speaker 3: it's in New Jersey.
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:13:15Speaker 7: People say New York and then also Boston.
- 1:13:17Speaker 3: Foxborough is not anywhere near Boston.
- 1:13:21Speaker 7: These major cities that have these places, these stadiums, but
- 1:13:24Speaker 7: they sell.
- 1:13:26Speaker 3: They sell.
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:13:30Speaker 3: One more. You know I like to squeeze these in
- 1:13:33Speaker 3: if they come in late.
- 1:13:35Speaker 12: To the guy riding the lawnmower that calls in all
- 1:13:38Speaker 12: the time bashing Julio and Randy Rosarino, you have not
- 1:13:42Speaker 12: said one positive thing about the Mariners all year. You
- 1:13:46Speaker 12: call in all the time. Get off your lawnmower. I'm
- 1:13:49Speaker 12: not sure who pissed in your Cheerios. It's going to
- 1:13:53Speaker 12: be okay. It's still nice. It's not raining out.
- 1:13:56Speaker 8: They still have a chance.
- 1:13:58Speaker 12: Put the John Deere away and have a good day, bud.
- 1:14:01Speaker 8: We love you.
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: It is a peculiar sound. It does sound like a lawnmower,
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: doesn't it?
- 1:14:08Speaker 3: Well, I like the multitasking aspect, because.
- 1:14:11Speaker 7: If you're mowing your lawn and listening to us, I
- 1:14:14Speaker 7: appreciate it.
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: 425 says, ha ha ha, Army isn't winning as much
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: as a spelling contest, much less the Army-Navy game. Yeah,
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: they've won the Army-Navy game quite a few times. It's
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: about dead even.
- 1:14:28Speaker 3: I was there when.
- 1:14:31Speaker 3: You ran on the field right after that.
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: In Boston.
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: But it broke a streak.
- 1:14:35Speaker 7: It broke like a four-game losing streak.
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: Well, let's not even recreate this. Navy won 14 years
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: in a row, and that was until like about 2018
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: or so, 2019. That was painful.
- 1:14:51Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: Yeah, that was painful.
- 1:14:53Speaker 3: I just remember I was with your daughter. I was
- 1:14:56Speaker 3: with Sarah.
- 1:14:58Speaker 7: And we look at– by the way– Those folks at
- 1:15:02Speaker 7: the stadium treated us.
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: Very, very well. Yeah, they did.
- 1:15:04Speaker 3: We had food. We had, like, bations.
- 1:15:07Speaker 7: And Greg and I had already done our show, so
- 1:15:10Speaker 7: we were allowed to enjoy, which we did.
- 1:15:13Speaker 3: And I just remember— We were.
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: On the sideline. We watched the game from the sideline.
- 1:15:17Speaker 8: We were on the sideline.
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: I'm talking to your daughter. And all of a sudden
- 1:15:21Speaker 3: we look over and you're like at the 50 yard line.
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: There was a penalty that I knew army was going
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: to refuse to end the game, but no one else
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: realized that.
- 1:15:29Speaker 7: Yes.
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: You know, the game was over. So everyone else was
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: waiting on the penalty announcement. I just went ahead and
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: ran out onto the field and his security guard said,
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: you're not supposed to be out here. I said, I'm
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: a grad. Don't worry about it.
- 1:15:40Speaker 3: Oh, you are.
- 1:15:41Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:15:41Speaker 3: You are just, I'm credentialed. Like I'm all good.
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: Every year I go up to Jeff Monk and the
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: army coach after the army Navy game and we chat
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: and he, He recognizes me now from years over years.
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: He doesn't know my name, but he recognizes me by face.
- 1:15:52Speaker 3: Faces are better than names sometimes. You got a good
- 1:15:55Speaker 3: one on your head.
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: Dave Softy Mahler. He was on at three. The mayor
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: of Maple Valley, Ian Furness. Oh, my God.
- 1:16:02Speaker 3: Do not let Ian hear that.
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: I will tell Ian that I've just mistaken him for
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: Dave Softy Mahler. He'll love that. Ian's going to come
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: in next, tell us what he's got going on from
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: 12 to 8. Thanks for all your time. There's many
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: more we didn't get to. Some of you are taking
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: exception for Jessamyn saying that Dan Wilson was a good
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: manager last year. I'll just let that lay there. That's okay.
- 1:16:22Speaker 7: You can disagree with me.
- 1:16:24Speaker 3: I'm okay with it.
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: I am okay with disagreement. The end's up next on
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: 93.3 KJR FM. Welcome back to the Greg Best Show
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: with Justin McIntyre, 93.3 KJRFM. Thanks for the Go Army,
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: Beat Navy references. They're always appreciated. Although there's always a
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: few Navy guys coming in with, yes, I know it
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: was a 14-game winning streak, I'm aware. Thanks for reminding me.
- 1:17:02Speaker 3: I said four to be nice.
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: You did. I appreciate that. I noticed it. Ian Furness
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: joins us, the mayor of Maple Valley, in his Whitworth
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: football hoodie from his son's days of being college football
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: offensive lineman. That was Kiefer doing. He get that EMT deal?
- 1:17:15Speaker 8: He got EMT certified. Now he's working on jobs.
- 1:17:17Speaker 2: Yeah. So he's working.
- 1:17:19Speaker 8: He's grinding. He's grinding.
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:17:21Speaker 8: Felt like he didn't have enough school after four years, apparently.
- 1:17:24Speaker 2: Well, Harry, selflessness. Hats off to him for doing EMT work.
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: That's great. The Mariners coming home. You think the math's mathing?
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: Or are they running out of days now?
- 1:17:36Speaker 7: No.
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: Five and 22.
- 1:17:37Speaker 8: I thought it was been math. I just– I've been
- 1:17:41Speaker 8: saying this a lot, much to the chagrin of Molly
- 1:17:43Speaker 8: Whoppers or Anders or others. The math has always been
- 1:17:45Speaker 8: on their side. The one thing I don't really buy
- 1:17:50Speaker 8: into is the schedule being so light that they should
- 1:17:53Speaker 8: be excited about that. I mean, sure, it looks on
- 1:17:55Speaker 8: paper great, but didn't Houston lose two or three to
- 1:17:58Speaker 8: the A's?
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: And the Angels.
- 1:18:00Speaker 8: And the Mariners just took two or three from a
- 1:18:01Speaker 8: better team in Boston. So you just try to predict
- 1:18:04Speaker 8: a series win and all those things. And even last night,
- 1:18:07Speaker 8: I mean, the good news is they won. The bad
- 1:18:09Speaker 8: news is Houston won. So game no ground there, right?
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:18:13Speaker 8: But the math works. The math works fine for them.
- 1:18:16Speaker 8: I mean, the math works fine. The big thing is
- 1:18:18Speaker 8: they've got games against Texas and Houston. Those are the
- 1:18:20Speaker 8: games that really kind of jump out at you, right?
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: Right. That's next week here in the yard in Soto.
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: The Rangers come in after the A's for four. I
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: don't know.
- 1:18:29Speaker 8: I think that the two thing, the other thing, Greg,
- 1:18:31Speaker 8: is that the fan base is just kind.
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: Of, They have. They really have. Justifiably.
- 1:18:39Speaker 8: Justifiably so, and yet this is a team that could
- 1:18:42Speaker 8: get in, and hell, they could get in and make
- 1:18:44Speaker 8: a run. Who knows?
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: Are you of the mind that we've heard, and I
- 1:18:46Speaker 2: think you've even talked about, let's not make the playoffs
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: because otherwise.
- 1:18:50Speaker 8: It would encourage a run back? I always say make
- 1:18:51Speaker 8: the playoffs.
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: Me too.
- 1:18:52Speaker 8: I always say make the playoffs. I don't care what
- 1:18:54Speaker 8: sport it is.
- 1:18:54Speaker 2: Especially this franchise. It's not exactly normal for them to
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: make the playoffs.
- 1:18:57Speaker 8: Well, six times in 49 years doesn't feel like a lot.
- 1:19:01Speaker 8: I mean, that's not a huge percentage, right?
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: No.
- 1:19:03Speaker 8: So, yeah, I always– You know, like last year, there
- 1:19:08Speaker 8: were people saying that about the hockey team. Oh, it's
- 1:19:10Speaker 8: better off just not making the playoffs and getting a
- 1:19:13Speaker 8: better draft pick. I'm like, eh, get in. Get some
- 1:19:16Speaker 8: excitement going.
- 1:19:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:19:17Speaker 8: Right? Sports are about getting to the playoffs.
- 1:19:20Speaker 2: And especially baseball, because you just need three starting pitchers
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: to shove for a series, and then you're in the
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: championship series. Right?
- 1:19:26Speaker 8: I mean, that's it. So why would you not want
- 1:19:29Speaker 8: to get in? I guess my question always back to
- 1:19:32Speaker 8: people is, why do you want your team not to
- 1:19:34Speaker 8: get in? What, what now?
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: Why do you want them to lose?
- 1:19:37Speaker 8: I have, I have only one time thought about like
- 1:19:42Speaker 8: kind of rooting against my team and hope because I
- 1:19:44Speaker 8: was hoping for change. And that was Ernie Kent's last
- 1:19:47Speaker 8: year at Wazoo in basketball. It just did. And as
- 1:19:50Speaker 8: it turned, like I was pretty confident they were going
- 1:19:53Speaker 8: to move on from him if they continue to go
- 1:19:56Speaker 8: down the downwards. So then when you're already like four
- 1:20:00Speaker 8: games under five, like you're not going to the tournament
- 1:20:03Speaker 8: at that point, just lose so you can, Get him
- 1:20:05Speaker 8: out of here. But I think if you're a Mariner fan,
- 1:20:07Speaker 8: you're saying, I hope they lose out or I hope
- 1:20:09Speaker 8: they don't make the playoffs because they're going to be
- 1:20:10Speaker 8: sweeping changes. What gives you any confidence they're going to
- 1:20:12Speaker 8: make the changes that you want to see as a fan?
- 1:20:14Speaker 2: Larry Stone brought up something interesting on Softee's show yesterday
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: that he doesn't think Dan Wilson wants to come back.
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: It wasn't his job.
- 1:20:23Speaker 8: That kind of feels like it's more likely.
- 1:20:27Speaker 2: I think so.
- 1:20:28Speaker 4: Right?
- 1:20:28Speaker 8: Dan's like, I don't need this.
- 1:20:30Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: Why do I need this? I don't have any experience
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: doing it, and now you're roasting me.
- 1:20:34Speaker 8: I'm just getting torched throughout the town every day. Can't
- 1:20:38Speaker 8: turn on the radio or pick it. Well, the newspaper
- 1:20:39Speaker 8: doesn't get them too bad, but I can't pick up.
- 1:20:41Speaker 8: I can't look at, well, he probably isn't a social
- 1:20:43Speaker 8: media guy anyway, but social media, newspaper.
- 1:20:45Speaker 2: I will say his body language during a game, he
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: does not look like he wants to be anywhere near there. No.
- 1:20:52Speaker 4: No.
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: Even when they're winning. No.
- 1:20:54Speaker 8: No, no, no, no, no, and no.
- 1:20:58Speaker 2: What do you got today?
- 1:20:59Speaker 8: Busy show coming up today. We'll check in. Eno Saris
- 1:21:01Speaker 8: will join us from the Athletic All Things Baseball at
- 1:21:04Speaker 8: 1220 this afternoon. And so we'll talk to him. One
- 1:21:08Speaker 8: o'clock hour, we're going to do a quick little preview
- 1:21:10Speaker 8: of high school football.
- 1:21:11Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:21:12Speaker 8: We got our guy Manny Hatz Millis, Todd Millis on.
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: Oh, great. Yeah, former TNT alum. That's a buddy of
- 1:21:19Speaker 2: mine still.
- 1:21:21Speaker 8: Here's the thing. There's a couple places. I'll give John Manley,
- 1:21:25Speaker 8: your guy John Manley, a lot of credit. He does
- 1:21:27Speaker 8: a great job covering preps. The reigning Washington State Sports
- 1:21:30Speaker 8: Center of the Year. But he's all in the South Sound.
- 1:21:32Speaker 2: Yes, he is.
- 1:21:33Speaker 8: Millis is all across the state. And Todd puts in
- 1:21:36Speaker 8: the work. Todd and Lauren, they do a great website. Yeah,
- 1:21:38Speaker 8: they do a great job. So we'll talk to Todd
- 1:21:40Speaker 8: coming up.
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: That's great.
- 1:21:41Speaker 8: High school football starts tonight.
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: I know. I'm refereeing a game. Oh, yeah? Ballard and Lincoln.
- 1:21:45Speaker 2: Let's go.
- 1:21:46Speaker 8: Let's go. If you're going to that game, make sure
- 1:21:48Speaker 8: you yell a referee bell. No, don't do that. I'll
- 1:21:52Speaker 8: tell the PA announcer to shut you down. We need
- 1:21:55Speaker 8: more officials, not less.
- 1:21:56Speaker 2: Yes, you do.
- 1:21:57Speaker 8: So yeah, we got that coming up. And then at
- 1:21:58Speaker 8: 2 p.m., Brandon Funston, the unofficial star of the weekend,
- 1:22:02Speaker 8: we will take your texts, your questions.
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: Your draft.
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: But not till 12.
- 1:22:06Speaker 8: Yeah, we got one.
- 1:22:07Speaker 2: Four minutes counting right now. Yeah, so nothing before noon.
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: You just chop them off, right? Chop them off.
- 1:22:13Speaker 8: Chop them off.
- 1:22:14Speaker 2: Don't be early.
- 1:22:16Speaker 8: What was our first one last week? It was like
- 1:22:17Speaker 8: one second afternoon. No premature. Before the season starts, we
- 1:22:23Speaker 8: had 12-0-0-0-1 last week. For Funston. That's what we had.
- 1:22:28Speaker 8: And we'll take phone calls today, too. Everyone's doing drafts
- 1:22:30Speaker 8: or maybe have second thoughts, keepers, all that stuff. So
- 1:22:33Speaker 8: a true preview before we get to the real thing
- 1:22:35Speaker 8: next week with Funston at 2 o'clock.
- 1:22:36Speaker 2: It's on. 2 o'clock. Phone lines are open. Texting at noon.
- 1:22:39Speaker 2: High noon.
- 1:22:40Speaker 8: It's like the one time we say that. Phone lines
- 1:22:42Speaker 8: are open for our show.
- 1:22:43Speaker 2: Phone lines are open.
- 1:22:44Speaker 8: Mike and Edmonds, Ricky and Tacoma. The Sultan two-steppers, Derek
- 1:22:48Speaker 8: and Steven, Rob and Burian. I do love the Sultans.
- 1:22:52Speaker 8: The whole gang. The whole gang will be there.
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: Bring them back. They're all coming back. Bring them back.
- 1:22:57Speaker 6: How is Rob?
- 1:22:57Speaker 4: Is he okay?
- 1:22:58Speaker 8: Have you had your draft yet? No, but I'm going
- 1:23:00Speaker 8: to be so bad.
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: Okay, good.
- 1:23:01Speaker 8: Thanks, Eeyore.
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: Rain, Cloud, and Ian are up next with Anders from
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: 12 until 3. Thanks, Greg Bell, Justin McIntyre. Appreciate you.
- 1:23:09Speaker 2: We'll do it again tomorrow. We've got high school football tomorrow.
- 1:23:12Speaker 2: Graham Kapowski and head coach Jeff Logan. We've got... Farhan Lalji,
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: TSN Canada, talking NFL. That's coming up tomorrow on 93.3 KJRFM.
