- 0:00Speaker 1: When I got to FS1, so when I first moved
- 0:02Speaker 1: to LA, they came to me and said, like, how
- 0:06Speaker 1: do you feel about motorcycle racing? Do you know anything
- 0:09Speaker 1: about this? And I kind of lied. It wasn't really
- 0:12Speaker 1: a lie because I knew a little bit. I knew
- 0:13Speaker 1: Ricky Carmichael was the GOAT. And I weirdly knew that
- 0:17Speaker 1: because my brother was into moto and had a random poster.
- 0:21Speaker 1: I did not know anything else about moto. But they said,
- 0:24Speaker 1: we need a reporter to cover this. I remember feeling
- 0:28Speaker 1: like some people were like, oh, she's going to cover
- 0:30Speaker 1: motorcycle racing. But in my head, it was the long game.
- 0:33Speaker 1: It was like, I don't care what I'm being asked
- 0:35Speaker 1: to do at Fox. I'm going to go get some
- 0:37Speaker 1: reps and I'm going to cover motorcycle racing and I'm
- 0:40Speaker 1: going to learn it and love it and embrace it.
- 0:43Speaker 1: It was the best thing that ever happened to me
- 0:46Speaker 1: by far as a reporter. I was like, if I
- 0:48Speaker 1: can be a good reporter at this, I can be
- 0:50Speaker 1: a good reporter at anything. Welcome to Whatever It Takes
- 1:04Speaker 1: with Carly Lloyd and Jenny Taft. We have so much
- 1:06Speaker 1: to get into today. Let's jump in. So Carly, latest
- 1:10Speaker 1: and greatest. What have you been up to? I know
- 1:12Speaker 1: you were busy on a vacation, but maybe not so
- 1:14Speaker 1: much vacation. Yeah, we went to the Jersey Shore, went
- 1:17Speaker 1: to LBI. So we took a little vacation with Brian's family.
- 1:21Speaker 1: And it was, I mean, she's just, she's crazy. She
- 1:25Speaker 1: does not stop.
- 1:26Speaker 2: She has no fear in the ocean. She runs all
- 1:30Speaker 2: over the place. The amount of stuff we had to pack.
- 1:34Speaker 2: We took Brian's truck. So he's got a F-150, which
- 1:37Speaker 2: is pretty big, pretty spacious. But the amount of stuff
- 1:41Speaker 2: that you have to bring for little ones is crazy.
- 1:45Speaker 2: So we got back this morning. So I'm, you know,
- 1:49Speaker 2: happily recording this. I took a little snooze before. But,
- 1:53Speaker 2: you know, you're just, you're not at home. They sleep
- 1:55Speaker 2: a little bit differently. Harper was getting up kind of early.
- 1:59Speaker 2: And yeah, it was just, you know, it's not a
- 2:03Speaker 2: relaxing vacation. My relaxing vacations are all over. But you're
- 2:07Speaker 2: probably in a little bit of a more sweeter spot
- 2:10Speaker 2: with Gigi being four.
- 2:11Speaker 1: It gets a little better, I will admit. And it's
- 2:14Speaker 1: all special and fun. And yes, you're still going to
- 2:16Speaker 1: go on the vacation. But, you know, now I don't
- 2:19Speaker 1: have to travel with As much stuff like the pack
- 2:22Speaker 1: and play we don't need where, you know, we don't
- 2:24Speaker 1: need the crazy car seat that.
- 2:26Speaker 3: We needed when she was much younger. We have a
- 2:28Speaker 3: way more mobile one. So it's just. more doable.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Like I don't think about the stroller the same way.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Like she really can walk fine on her own unless
- 2:36Speaker 1: we're really on the move. So I feel you. I
- 2:39Speaker 1: loved your pictures of Harper at the beach. She really
- 2:42Speaker 1: just like runs in. Like there is zero fear of
- 2:44Speaker 1: that water.
- 2:45Speaker 2: And LBI, so LBI, the island kind of sits out
- 2:49Speaker 2: more in New Jersey. So if it's not low tide,
- 2:54Speaker 2: it's a pretty big drop off. And then the waves
- 2:57Speaker 2: just kind of crash right at the shore. But we
- 3:00Speaker 2: did go at at some low tide times. But when
- 3:03Speaker 2: we went yesterday for a little bit in the afternoon,
- 3:05Speaker 2: it was pretty deep. It was probably two feet deep.
- 3:09Speaker 2: And she would literally start from the hill and run
- 3:14Speaker 2: straight down into the sand and then.
- 3:19Speaker 3: Into the water.
- 3:20Speaker 2: And you know when you're running in water, it's a
- 3:22Speaker 2: little bit different. And then she would fall. She would
- 3:25Speaker 2: go under. But, you know, she's been doing these ISR
- 3:29Speaker 2: swimming lessons, which are for survival. So she knows how
- 3:33Speaker 2: to hold her breath, but we're just like pulling her
- 3:35Speaker 2: out of the water and she's swallowing the salt water.
- 3:40Speaker 2: And then she just wants more and more and more.
- 3:42Speaker 2: And so between Brian and I, we're trying to save
- 3:45Speaker 2: her from really going under. But no, it was fun
- 3:51Speaker 2: and we're in the thick of it, but it's all
- 3:53Speaker 2: worth it.
- 3:54Speaker 1: I feel like the ISR classes and the swim survival
- 3:58Speaker 1: method is fascinating to me. I do regret not doing
- 4:01Speaker 1: it with Gigi. I think it's incredible to do. I
- 4:04Speaker 1: tried to find it when we moved to Boston. It
- 4:06Speaker 1: was crazy how popular it is, but there's so few
- 4:09Speaker 1: instructors who are available because it is so effective and
- 4:12Speaker 1: so amazing. So hopefully our next kid, we will 100%
- 4:16Speaker 1: do that because I know you feel so strongly about it.
- 4:19Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. It's been life changing. It's been fantastic.
- 4:22Speaker 2: It's hard, though, because you can never put them in
- 4:24Speaker 2: swimmies because they'll regress. Yeah.
- 4:26Speaker 3: So what have you been up to since we last spoke?
- 4:29Speaker 1: So latest and greatest. So I was thinking about this today.
- 4:33Speaker 1: So I know that you know me as like Jenny,
- 4:36Speaker 1: Reporter Jen. I tend to be like a pretty happy person.
- 4:40Speaker 1: It takes a lot for me to not be kind.
- 4:43Speaker 3: I don't think I've ever seen you in that element.
- 4:45Speaker 3: That's what I mean. So there's this version of me.
- 4:49Speaker 3: It is there.
- 4:50Speaker 1: And it came out yesterday at the dentist appointment for
- 4:53Speaker 1: my daughter. And it really did not leave. I know
- 4:57Speaker 1: it would be boring to share a dentist story in depth,
- 5:02Speaker 1: but the highlights are lowlights, if you will. Gigi needed
- 5:07Speaker 1: a cavity fixed, filled.
- 5:09Speaker 3: She's four. I mean, it just seems insane.
- 5:10Speaker 1: But yes, I obviously want her to have healthy teeth.
- 5:15Speaker 1: They were very inefficient with the time. And I felt
- 5:17Speaker 1: like they did not handle her well and her comfort.
- 5:21Speaker 1: And there was a version of me, Carly. It was
- 5:23Speaker 1: frightening to see like mama bear in a way that
- 5:28Speaker 1: like I'm concerned about how I'm going.
- 5:29Speaker 3: To be with sports. Like what if kids are pushing
- 5:32Speaker 3: her down? Yes. Like they just didn't handle the situation well.
- 5:36Speaker 3: And they asked at the end of my appointment, how
- 5:39Speaker 3: was everything? And I said, frankly, it was really bad.
- 5:42Speaker 3: And I'm very underwhelmed. And I really would like a
- 5:44Speaker 3: manager to call me immediately. It was a version of
- 5:47Speaker 3: me that not a lot of people see.
- 5:49Speaker 1: And we had to go back today. And I had
- 5:53Speaker 1: to bring my husband because I was afraid what I
- 5:55Speaker 1: was going to do. I'm not going to leave a
- 5:58Speaker 1: negative review, but I'm just not going to, no, I'm
- 6:00Speaker 1: not going back. It was just so bad. And I'm
- 6:03Speaker 1: still so angry about it. But It had me thinking
- 6:06Speaker 1: about like me as a sports mom.
- 6:11Speaker 3: It could be bad. I mean, I hope you're not.
- 6:14Speaker 2: I hope you're not a mob on the sideline running
- 6:16Speaker 2: up and down there screaming Gigi's name and yelling at referees.
- 6:22Speaker 3: I don't know. I'm worried now. Or other players. I
- 6:26Speaker 3: won't do that. I won't do that.
- 6:28Speaker 1: But I will admit if there is unfairness happening, like
- 6:32Speaker 1: I don't, I do not like to let it go.
- 6:35Speaker 1: And there's a, like jenny as a kid too like
- 6:38Speaker 1: my parents could tell you stories like i was always
- 6:40Speaker 1: like a freedom fighter like i was standing up for
- 6:42Speaker 1: people in class and i didn't like when things weren't
- 6:44Speaker 1: right and that version has definitely kind of simmered down
- 6:48Speaker 1: but yesterday and today i was on full display so
- 6:52Speaker 1: i'm still a little bit heated but um yeah i
- 6:55Speaker 1: won't i won't name names but yeah we're gonna be
- 6:57Speaker 1: looking for a new dentist in town so.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Yeah you know just coming in hot you gotta do
- 7:02Speaker 2: you know Gigi, you know, her poor little face.
- 7:05Speaker 3: She's got a little swelling. It's just a lot. So anyways,
- 7:09Speaker 3: all is good. Parenting is great. So fun. Something new
- 7:13Speaker 3: every day. Vacation, something every day. Yeah.
- 7:16Speaker 2: We, Harper was waking up the whole household very early
- 7:20Speaker 2: in the morning. But yeah, these are, these are memories.
- 7:23Speaker 2: These are, these are good times.
- 7:25Speaker 1: These are memories that we are making as I was
- 7:27Speaker 1: sleeping in Gigi's bed last night to make sure she
- 7:29Speaker 1: was okay. So I think both of us are definitely
- 7:31Speaker 1: functioning at a high level right now. But what I
- 7:35Speaker 1: wanted to get into today was a little bit about
- 7:39Speaker 1: the transition. Because when I think about you in your
- 7:43Speaker 1: success as, of course, you know, the best of the best,
- 7:47Speaker 1: when soccer was fun to when it kind of shifted
- 7:51Speaker 1: to being like, this is a career, like this is
- 7:54Speaker 1: how I can make it. And I remember there's so
- 7:57Speaker 1: much to your story that needs reframing. you know, a
- 7:59Speaker 1: longer discussion, but like times where you almost quit playing
- 8:02Speaker 1: the game because you weren't having that success or were
- 8:04Speaker 1: not enjoying it. So when did it kind of shift
- 8:07Speaker 1: on soccer being fun and enjoyable to really becoming your
- 8:12Speaker 1: life's work in a.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Lot of ways?
- 8:14Speaker 2: I know, I think this is kind of interesting because, um,
- 8:19Speaker 2: you know, you look at all these young little girls
- 8:22Speaker 2: and boys and they have dreams and you meet them
- 8:25Speaker 2: and they're like, I want to become a professional soccer
- 8:28Speaker 2: player or a professional whatever. And I'm like, you know,
- 8:33Speaker 2: it's an unbelievable thing to be able to play a
- 8:38Speaker 2: sport for a living and do that. But there's so
- 8:41Speaker 2: much that comes with it off the field. And that's
- 8:44Speaker 2: the hardest part. And when I look at my career, I,
- 8:48Speaker 2: you know, look at different phases, obviously the youth phase
- 8:52Speaker 2: where I was part of, you know, my town team
- 8:55Speaker 2: and then travel team and then my club team where
- 8:59Speaker 2: this club team was formed with some of the best
- 9:03Speaker 2: players from New Jersey. There were a couple of PA players,
- 9:07Speaker 2: Delaware players, And we had this unbelievable team. I mean,
- 9:11Speaker 2: we were like family. And to me, the joy was
- 9:15Speaker 2: that club team, because you go away together, you play
- 9:18Speaker 2: on the road, these tournaments. The parents, you know, my
- 9:22Speaker 2: dad took me mostly on the road. But, you know,
- 9:27Speaker 2: you're going out to eat, you're staying up kind of late,
- 9:29Speaker 2: and just fun times. And then... High school is obviously
- 9:35Speaker 2: still a bit fun for me. And then college, there's
- 9:38Speaker 2: a bit more pressure and obviously the academics side of it.
- 9:42Speaker 2: And then when I got on the national team, I
- 9:44Speaker 2: think that you have this perspective of it being a
- 9:50Speaker 2: certain way. And I was on the national team in 2005.
- 9:54Speaker 2: We only had a couple games. And then 2006, more regularly,
- 9:58Speaker 2: obviously we were prepping for the 2000s. Cup it was
- 10:02Speaker 2: cutthroat I mean I know you've probably heard some players
- 10:06Speaker 2: talk about how hard the environment was and that was
- 10:11Speaker 2: an environment that a lot of those 91ers 99ers kind
- 10:15Speaker 2: of carried on um I can't say that it was
- 10:21Speaker 2: pleasant all the time or fun to be there, but
- 10:25Speaker 2: we were competitors and that's what made us ultimately great. And,
- 10:30Speaker 2: you know, I think that the playing bit of it
- 10:33Speaker 2: on the field was kind of the easy bit. It
- 10:36Speaker 2: was everything you had to navigate off the field. And
- 10:39Speaker 2: I think that's what people don't really understand is every
- 10:42Speaker 2: day that you step out onto the field, you have
- 10:45Speaker 2: to perform. And if you don't perform, You're usually not
- 10:49Speaker 2: getting selected. So the business side of it and worrying
- 10:55Speaker 2: about coaches. I played for five different managers. How hard
- 11:00Speaker 2: is it to play for five different managers who have
- 11:04Speaker 2: all different philosophies and perspectives and some don't like you?
- 11:07Speaker 2: And my motto was always, I'm going to force every
- 11:13Speaker 2: single coach that I play for that they have to
- 11:16Speaker 2: play me.
- 11:17Speaker 3: Based on my performance. So yeah, it was just really hard.
- 11:20Speaker 2: The endorsements, the opportunities off the field, the political game
- 11:24Speaker 2: that you had to play with some people and, um,
- 11:29Speaker 2: the media scrutinizing me, fans jumping on and off board.
- 11:33Speaker 2: I mean, I think, you know, sports are, as you know,
- 11:37Speaker 2: are a world in which they want to build you
- 11:41Speaker 2: up and then they'll easily just break you down.
- 11:43Speaker 3: So yeah, it's, um.
- 11:46Speaker 2: It's not necessarily the most joyous time, but it was
- 11:51Speaker 2: a pretty unbelievable experience to be able to have.
- 11:55Speaker 1: I think you saying that the easier part was training
- 11:59Speaker 1: is why you were as successful as you were. I mean,
- 12:02Speaker 1: one of many reasons, but the outside stress was you're
- 12:07Speaker 1: going to handle that.
- 12:08Speaker 3: But training was the passion you had for it. I
- 12:10Speaker 3: think a lot of people... Well, maybe.
- 12:12Speaker 1: your teammates would say that was also the most fun
- 12:15Speaker 1: or the easiest part. But I think that says something
- 12:17Speaker 1: about your mindset too. Like you were there to do
- 12:19Speaker 1: a job, but you still ultimately loved what you were doing.
- 12:22Speaker 3: Oh, I loved every bit of it. Yeah. I mean,
- 12:26Speaker 3: you have to love it.
- 12:27Speaker 2: And I think nobody gets as far as I got
- 12:30Speaker 2: or all these other successful athletes and people. I mean,
- 12:34Speaker 2: just like what you do with your world. you love
- 12:36Speaker 2: what you do ultimately. And that's why you're the best
- 12:39Speaker 2: of the best because you have that passion. I think
- 12:42Speaker 2: when people start off and, you know, they don't really
- 12:46Speaker 2: love it. I mean, I played with players that didn't,
- 12:48Speaker 2: I don't think that they really truly love the game.
- 12:52Speaker 3: They love to compete.
- 12:53Speaker 2: They love to maybe play in world cups and Olympics,
- 12:56Speaker 2: but I found the love with the ball at my foot,
- 13:01Speaker 2: you know, working on things that I could get better
- 13:03Speaker 2: at and, Yeah, that drove me to want to be
- 13:08Speaker 2: at my best.
- 13:10Speaker 3: I didn't like the other bits.
- 13:12Speaker 2: I didn't like the political games that you had to
- 13:15Speaker 2: sometimes play and, you know, smiling when maybe you don't
- 13:20Speaker 2: necessarily agree with what's going on or taking criticism from
- 13:25Speaker 2: a coach that, you know, quite frankly, maybe just really
- 13:29Speaker 2: doesn't like you and it's a personal thing rather than
- 13:32Speaker 2: how you are performing as a player. There's just so much,
- 13:36Speaker 2: but there's nothing better than the game and playing. I mean,
- 13:41Speaker 2: that's ultimately the best.
- 13:42Speaker 1: It's so interesting because I, of course, played sports growing up.
- 13:47Speaker 1: And yes, I love competition, but I think I was
- 13:50Speaker 1: very early aware. I was a good athlete, but I
- 13:54Speaker 1: wasn't a great athlete. I wasn't playing on the national
- 13:57Speaker 1: team for any sport. But I was good. Of course,
- 14:01Speaker 1: I played lacrosse in college, but I wasn't the starter.
- 14:03Speaker 1: I wasn't the best. And I did start to shift
- 14:06Speaker 1: my mindset, probably in college, to a point where I
- 14:10Speaker 1: did really want to focus on broadcasting because I kind
- 14:12Speaker 1: of knew. It kind of ends after this, this four years.
- 14:16Speaker 1: I loved the experience, but I still will never forget.
- 14:19Speaker 1: I had to leave practice early on Wednesdays to go
- 14:22Speaker 1: to broadcasting class, or we filmed a BU Terrier Nation broadcast.
- 14:28Speaker 3: Sports show. And I pulled up the clips lately or recently.
- 14:31Speaker 3: I thought I was killing it. Oh, they're so bad.
- 14:36Speaker 3: I thought I was so good. So good. I think
- 14:40Speaker 3: I have one to send you. Okay.
- 14:42Speaker 2: Even some of my early interviews, I'm like, oh my gosh.
- 14:45Speaker 3: It's terrible.
- 14:48Speaker 1: I was so confident. And I remember telling my coach,
- 14:51Speaker 1: I have to leave early. And I got some negative
- 14:54Speaker 1: pushback from her and from My teammates. And I don't even, like,
- 14:58Speaker 1: I get that. I get both sides of it. But ultimately,
- 15:00Speaker 1: I was like, this is literally the one class and
- 15:03Speaker 1: the one experience I need. And I think I left
- 15:06Speaker 1: 15 minutes early on Wednesday. And I guarantee if Carly
- 15:09Speaker 1: was my teammate, she probably wouldn't have loved that. Like,
- 15:12Speaker 1: leaving early for broadcasting class.
- 15:15Speaker 3: I definitely would have been judging. Exactly. She doesn't care enough.
- 15:18Speaker 3: You would not have been a fan. You would not
- 15:20Speaker 3: have been a fan. Oh, that's so funny.
- 15:21Speaker 1: But I was, like, adamant that I was, I kind
- 15:24Speaker 1: of had to convince my coach and I'm sure there
- 15:27Speaker 1: was judgment, but at the end of the day, like
- 15:30Speaker 1: I do love the competition of what we do.
- 15:33Speaker 3: You don't see that side.
- 15:34Speaker 1: I think I internalize a lot of the competition, but
- 15:37Speaker 1: I am very competitive and I always truly believed that
- 15:42Speaker 1: I would want to be doing this and would do
- 15:45Speaker 1: whatever it takes.
- 15:45Speaker 3: I love when we just say it.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Love it.
- 15:48Speaker 3: Whatever it takes.
- 15:49Speaker 1: I truly believed it, right? Like I'll do whatever it
- 15:52Speaker 1: takes to be in front of the camera all day.
- 15:55Speaker 1: take the crazy job.
- 15:56Speaker 3: I'll volunteer. You know, I don't care what money I'll make.
- 15:59Speaker 3: I'll do it for free. I did a lot of
- 16:01Speaker 3: that at the beginning.
- 16:01Speaker 1: And, you know, that's nowadays, it's hard to tell kids
- 16:05Speaker 1: to go do that, but you kind of have to
- 16:07Speaker 1: pay your dues in this world.
- 16:08Speaker 3: So I did.
- 16:11Speaker 1: just love sport and knew I wanted to be around
- 16:13Speaker 1: it and then have this energy to me where I
- 16:16Speaker 1: loved theater and I loved being on stage and it
- 16:18Speaker 1: never made me nervous to be in front of people
- 16:20Speaker 1: in that way. And there was like a performance aspect
- 16:23Speaker 1: to broadcasting that I really enjoyed and the red light
- 16:26Speaker 1: goes on and, you know, it's a rush.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Yeah, like is it, do you get the joy and
- 16:33Speaker 2: the thrill of it when that light comes on?
- 16:36Speaker 3: A hundred percent. Like, it's so much fun to you.
- 16:40Speaker 3: It's so fun. It's not fun.
- 16:42Speaker 1: I still very much get, like, nervous butterflies, but they're
- 16:45Speaker 1: not nerves in a, you can't do the job. Just
- 16:49Speaker 1: nerves in a, like, high-stake environment. Like, I know you
- 16:53Speaker 1: and I would see each other before the matches at
- 16:56Speaker 1: the World Cup. And do you remember when I would
- 16:58Speaker 1: walk to the middle of the pitch and I would
- 16:59Speaker 1: do a report with the players behind me? That was new,
- 17:03Speaker 1: this World Cup, right?
- 17:05Speaker 3: And that was... The craziest rush? I can't even describe
- 17:09Speaker 3: it because FIFA is very strict.
- 17:12Speaker 1: And obviously, my best friends as my broadcasting partners are
- 17:17Speaker 1: the World Cup.
- 17:18Speaker 3: Because you cannot break a rule.
- 17:20Speaker 1: I mean, at one point I had wedge heels on
- 17:23Speaker 1: and wedges were supposed to be allowed. I was not
- 17:25Speaker 1: trying to break any rules because the moment you break
- 17:27Speaker 1: a rule, they'll take that field position away from you
- 17:30Speaker 1: and there's no going back.
- 17:32Speaker 3: So they were like, you have to change your shoes.
- 17:35Speaker 1: And I'm changing my shoes right away. And then you
- 17:37Speaker 1: basically have three minutes to do that live report. And
- 17:41Speaker 1: it's our camera. So it's like a Fox camera. And
- 17:43Speaker 1: my camera guy, Joe, who's amazing, I cannot give him
- 17:46Speaker 1: enough credit because it is like we always say, it's
- 17:48Speaker 1: such a team. So we're escorted to the center circle
- 17:53Speaker 1: and the players are warming up behind me.
- 17:54Speaker 3: Like, who knows what's happening? I'm trying to do a story.
- 17:57Speaker 3: Let's say I was talking about Ballot.
- 18:00Speaker 1: So I do a story and I'm trying to hopefully
- 18:02Speaker 1: turn and like hopefully get Balow in the shot, but
- 18:04Speaker 1: I can't control their movements. And you really get one
- 18:07Speaker 1: shot to do this.
- 18:08Speaker 3: I mean, you could potentially get hit with a ball too, right? 100%.
- 18:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:11Speaker 3: I have gotten pretty close. I should give my producer
- 18:14Speaker 3: Ryan Dougherty a little credit.
- 18:16Speaker 1: I feel like he shielded me in the past because
- 18:18Speaker 1: it's definitely like you're risking it all for the shot.
- 18:22Speaker 1: And it looks cool on TV, but then you have
- 18:25Speaker 1: no idea the crazy stress of just getting out there
- 18:30Speaker 1: You know, of course, delivering your report and hoping that
- 18:32Speaker 1: the camera works and the audio works and you're not
- 18:34Speaker 1: getting hit by a ball and.
- 18:35Speaker 3: You just go for it. So there's a lot to the.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Energy of a red light going on that I really enjoy,
- 18:41Speaker 1: that I definitely thrive off of. But it has that
- 18:43Speaker 1: competitive edge to it, which I still feel very much
- 18:48Speaker 1: connected to sport in that way.
- 18:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I love that.
- 18:51Speaker 2: And that makes sense. Are you getting these three minute hits?
- 18:57Speaker 2: I don't want to embarrass you, but are you getting
- 18:59Speaker 2: them in one hit?
- 19:00Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. One take. Of course. Maybe two.
- 19:03Speaker 1: But most of the time, the first one was good.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Let's just do it again. And if Balo's a little
- 19:08Speaker 1: bit better in the shot, we'll just try again. Because
- 19:12Speaker 1: I can't function as if it's not live. It's really
- 19:16Speaker 1: hard for me because the more I found, and I
- 19:18Speaker 1: tell reporters this too, you don't want to memorize things
- 19:22Speaker 1: word for word anyway because that's when you start to
- 19:24Speaker 1: screw up. If you memorize stories with bullet points... For me,
- 19:29Speaker 1: it's more conversational. So I have a report, right, that
- 19:33Speaker 1: I write all my reports myself. I definitely use my
- 19:36Speaker 1: producer's feedback on like, do you like starting with this
- 19:39Speaker 1: or do you like ending with this? But I also
- 19:40Speaker 1: write everything because I also feel like if you don't
- 19:42Speaker 1: write your own content, it's never going to come out
- 19:45Speaker 1: very well. It sounds like you're reading someone else's work
- 19:48Speaker 1: and then you might even stumble more. It's rare that
- 19:52Speaker 1: I'm doing multiple takes.
- 19:54Speaker 3: Just like it's never as good.
- 19:55Speaker 1: The moment you start to overthink it and you're reshooting,
- 19:58Speaker 1: and first of all, you can't do more than two
- 19:59Speaker 1: and three minutes anyway, but the moment you start to
- 20:02Speaker 1: go into more and more and more, it's just going
- 20:05Speaker 1: to sound worse.
- 20:06Speaker 3: Yeah. You just got to pretend you're live.
- 20:08Speaker 2: Yeah. No, I'm kind of the same. I mean, what
- 20:10Speaker 2: you do and Tom Rinaldi and all these other sideline reporters,
- 20:14Speaker 2: to me, I feel like that's the hardest thing to do.
- 20:17Speaker 2: One of the hardest things to do. Studio, you're up
- 20:20Speaker 2: at the desk. I got my little bullet points. You
- 20:22Speaker 2: can just kind of talk freely. But yeah, props to you.
- 20:26Speaker 2: That's pretty incredible.
- 20:27Speaker 3: All right. Well, that's really, I appreciate it.
- 20:29Speaker 1: It's going to be fun to get back into football
- 20:31Speaker 1: season soon and have a different.
- 20:33Speaker 3: Rush of crazy noise and the thrill of that. So
- 20:37Speaker 3: I love it. Chasing coaches on the field. Just, that's
- 20:40Speaker 3: my job. It's my next gig. Speaking of Tom Rinaldi,
- 20:43Speaker 3: we're going to have to get Tom Rinaldi on the
- 20:45Speaker 3: pot too. I know. That would be great. He is
- 20:47Speaker 3: so good. Storytelling. And you know what he's so cool about?
- 20:50Speaker 1: He would always, throughout the World Cup, I'll give him
- 20:52Speaker 1: a little love because I know we have to go
- 20:54Speaker 1: to break, but he would always text me and just
- 20:57Speaker 1: was so encouraging.
- 20:58Speaker 3: Like, what a report. Great question.
- 21:01Speaker 1: You know, keep doing you. Like, let your personality shine. Like,
- 21:05Speaker 1: could not have been a more supportive teammate. And when
- 21:10Speaker 1: Tom Rinaldi tells you good job, like it means something.
- 21:13Speaker 1: And I'm just so, I love that. He's been great
- 21:16Speaker 1: to learn from.
- 21:17Speaker 3: Agreed. Yeah, he's been super gracious to me too. And
- 21:21Speaker 3: then you look at all the awards he's won. All right. Well,
- 21:24Speaker 3: we're going to get Tom Rinaldi on the pod. We're
- 21:26Speaker 3: going to do a quick break and we have so
- 21:28Speaker 3: much more to get into after this.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Welcome back to Whatever It Takes with Carly Lloyd and
- 21:44Speaker 1: Jenny Taft. Carly, I have a funny story to tell you.
- 21:47Speaker 1: I'm not exactly sure why I was Googling you, which
- 21:50Speaker 1: does seem a little weird to say that out loud.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Oh, boy.
- 21:53Speaker 1: But something came, like, I don't know what I was
- 21:55Speaker 1: looking at. I might have been looking up just all
- 21:58Speaker 1: the accomplishments, something. And a clip of you popped up from,
- 22:02Speaker 1: of course, the time when I was covering you, where
- 22:04Speaker 1: you kind of gave a little edge, a little sass
- 22:08Speaker 1: back to a reporter who, you know, was a hometown
- 22:12Speaker 1: reporter and you called him out for saying, oh, I'm
- 22:15Speaker 1: not making the team. And I just, it was so
- 22:17Speaker 1: interesting because I've now, I know you so well as
- 22:20Speaker 1: this Carly who I'm working with and you have this,
- 22:23Speaker 1: like we.
- 22:24Speaker 3: Always said throughout the World Cup, like I'm just going
- 22:26Speaker 3: with the flow.
- 22:27Speaker 1: But there was a version of you that had that
- 22:30Speaker 1: edge that I love about you, but also just as
- 22:33Speaker 1: the weight of the expectations grew for you. I would
- 22:36Speaker 1: just love your take on like that part of your
- 22:38Speaker 1: personality and how you channeled that, but also, you know,
- 22:41Speaker 1: thrived under the high pressure of the expectation to have success.
- 22:46Speaker 3: Do you know the video I'm talking about?
- 22:48Speaker 2: I do.
- 22:48Speaker 3: I do. I know the reporter. I'm not going to
- 22:50Speaker 3: mention any names, but.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Give them a lot of credit. You know, we kind
- 22:54Speaker 2: of worked things out and everything is all good. But,
- 22:59Speaker 2: you know, I think for me, there was not a
- 23:02Speaker 2: lot of expectation, to be quite honest, when I first
- 23:06Speaker 2: got on the national team. I was not this young,
- 23:09Speaker 2: emerging star. You know, I was 23-ish, getting on the
- 23:14Speaker 2: national team, a late bloomer. I think people knew that
- 23:18Speaker 2: I had this talent and I had this unique ability
- 23:22Speaker 2: to do things that other players couldn't, but I wasn't fit.
- 23:26Speaker 2: I didn't have the right training habits or the right mindset.
- 23:30Speaker 2: I wasn't a professional. There's Brian in the back, the
- 23:36Speaker 2: background there.
- 23:36Speaker 3: I think he knows that he's... Side note, we were
- 23:41Speaker 3: joking before we recorded that Brian and Matt have said
- 23:43Speaker 3: they will not be joining the pod. So there's our Brian. Yeah,
- 23:48Speaker 3: he kind of did something to his knee on the beach.
- 23:51Speaker 3: And I'm like, oh my gosh, we.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Were dragging Harper in this veer wagon that we have,
- 23:56Speaker 2: which is unbelievable.
- 23:58Speaker 3: I've seen those. Yeah, I guess Harper's up now.
- 24:02Speaker 2: So yeah, hey, we're... We're live on the pod and
- 24:05Speaker 2: this is just an ebb and flow of everything. But
- 24:10Speaker 2: back to my thought, which I kind of remember, I
- 24:14Speaker 2: think for me, my whole life, and even my parents
- 24:19Speaker 2: have said it, you know, I was always somebody that
- 24:22Speaker 2: wanted to prove people wrong. And I don't really know
- 24:26Speaker 2: where that came from. I don't know if it was
- 24:28Speaker 2: in the Jersey water, being close to Philadelphia, kind of
- 24:32Speaker 2: that blue collar mentality. And as a kid, if I
- 24:36Speaker 2: couldn't figure out how to do something, like throw a
- 24:39Speaker 2: spiral of a football, I would do it until I
- 24:43Speaker 2: could figure it out. And that was just in my nature.
- 24:47Speaker 2: And then that just continued to translate on throughout my
- 24:51Speaker 2: career and my journey. But I felt like when I
- 24:56Speaker 2: got on the national team, I had to prove my worth.
- 25:00Speaker 3: And I wasn't going to kiss up to anybody necessarily.
- 25:04Speaker 3: I wasn't going.
- 25:05Speaker 2: To, you know, follow the crowd and do things that
- 25:10Speaker 2: weren't authentic to me. I wanted my play to do
- 25:14Speaker 2: the talking. And so, yeah, I just, I didn't feel
- 25:18Speaker 2: fully appreciated. I just always felt like I had to
- 25:22Speaker 2: prove my worth. Even after scoring the game-winning goal early
- 25:26Speaker 2: on in my career in the 2008 Olympics, which we
- 25:29Speaker 2: won 1-0 to Brazil. You know, and I still didn't
- 25:33Speaker 2: feel appreciated by U.S. soccer or the media or the
- 25:37Speaker 2: fan base. And it wasn't as big back then. But,
- 25:40Speaker 2: you know, and I think that just drove me. I
- 25:42Speaker 2: think it was sort of the Michael Jordan way of being, right?
- 25:48Speaker 2: Just always trying to strive for more. I believed in
- 25:53Speaker 2: doing the right things the right way and good things
- 25:56Speaker 2: would come. And, you know, I would just get tired
- 25:59Speaker 2: of the media just scrutinizing me all the time. Like
- 26:02Speaker 2: it just, sometimes it just didn't feel fair. And I
- 26:06Speaker 2: know that now that I'm in the media world, you know,
- 26:10Speaker 2: alongside of you and others, like you have to tread
- 26:13Speaker 2: that fine line. Um, you know, and I get that,
- 26:16Speaker 2: but I, you know, sometimes I just was like, man,
- 26:20Speaker 2: you guys really don't know. You don't see me at
- 26:22Speaker 2: training every day and you just think that I'm old
- 26:24Speaker 2: and that I shouldn't be, you know, on the team and,
- 26:27Speaker 2: and all these different things. Um, But you know what,
- 26:30Speaker 2: that drove me and that drove the trajectory of my career.
- 26:36Speaker 2: And I wouldn't be the player in person that I
- 26:39Speaker 2: was without that. You know, nothing was handed to me.
- 26:43Speaker 2: And in the end, walking off the field for the U.S.
- 26:46Speaker 2: national team was one of my greatest rewards because Harper is, yeah,
- 26:54Speaker 2: apologies for our listeners here. She is ready for her.
- 26:58Speaker 2: I'm not sure what was going on up there. But yeah,
- 27:04Speaker 2: the ending was the reward, the journey. And you know me,
- 27:09Speaker 2: I don't need to be like pumped up or, you know,
- 27:12Speaker 2: patted on the back. But I just wanted to be
- 27:15Speaker 2: appreciated for what I did and how I went about
- 27:18Speaker 2: my career.
- 27:19Speaker 1: And that happened in the end. So you do feel
- 27:23Speaker 1: like that it did ultimately happen.
- 27:26Speaker 3: The respect. 100%. And the reporters, yeah. Yeah. I thought
- 27:29Speaker 3: you'd say that.
- 27:30Speaker 2: That was the long game approach for me. It took
- 27:33Speaker 2: a while for me to... 2015 World Cup was my big,
- 27:37Speaker 2: big moment on the biggest stage, which then everybody knew
- 27:43Speaker 2: about me. And I'm like, yeah, I've been on the
- 27:45Speaker 2: team for 10 years. Prior to this, I've scored some
- 27:47Speaker 2: winning goals in 2008 Olympics, 2012. And 2015, again, we
- 27:49Speaker 2: talk about the expectation. Then... you know, score a hat
- 27:57Speaker 2: trick in the World Cup final, and then everybody expects that.
- 28:00Speaker 2: And then there's more scrutiny that comes with that. And
- 28:03Speaker 2: if you're not playing at that level that you need
- 28:06Speaker 2: to be playing at, people are dragging you down.
- 28:09Speaker 3: And so, yeah, that reporter, that was sort of at
- 28:13Speaker 3: the end of my career. And I was just.
- 28:16Speaker 2: So tired of the rhetoric, you know. So, yeah, I mean,
- 28:20Speaker 2: that was it in a nutshell. But, you know, like
- 28:25Speaker 2: I said, The end was everything for me. It was
- 28:30Speaker 2: my greatest reward.
- 28:32Speaker 1: That's, well, not to bring up an old story, but
- 28:35Speaker 1: I just, I think it was because it was this
- 28:38Speaker 1: side of you that, like, I was around you as
- 28:41Speaker 1: a player, but it's been a while, right? Like, since
- 28:43Speaker 1: I've seen that, like, edge and that competitiveness that, because
- 28:46Speaker 1: you are just, the way you've approached this stage of
- 28:49Speaker 1: life as a broadcaster and mom, and like your priorities
- 28:51Speaker 1: are just different. And I love seeing both sides of
- 28:54Speaker 1: you that I so respect. Is there a level to
- 28:59Speaker 1: the burnout and the sign of like, when did you
- 29:02Speaker 1: know it was time to be done? That's actually, I
- 29:04Speaker 1: don't know if I've ever asked you that. Like, when
- 29:07Speaker 1: did it feel like, all right, like I'm good here.
- 29:13Speaker 3: You know, it's.
- 29:15Speaker 2: Kind of, It's that, that's an interesting thing. And I mean, you're,
- 29:22Speaker 2: you're still in it. Like you still do this all
- 29:26Speaker 2: the time, but you do change sport.
- 29:29Speaker 1: True.
- 29:29Speaker 3: Which I think is, is probably helpful. I think it is. Yeah.
- 29:35Speaker 2: I had always envisioned going through four cycles, like everything
- 29:39Speaker 2: in the USA. national team is through cycles. So, every
- 29:42Speaker 2: four years, World Cup. Every four years, Olympics. And once
- 29:45Speaker 2: I got to the fourth and final cycle, obviously, Tokyo
- 29:51Speaker 2: was pushed.
- 29:52Speaker 3: From 2020 to 2021. And just the way that the
- 29:53Speaker 3: teams where we were, it just, it was time.
- 30:05Speaker 2: And it was just time to, you know, kind of
- 30:08Speaker 2: live my life and do all the things that I
- 30:12Speaker 2: wanted to do. And I don't know if you're the
- 30:14Speaker 2: same way, because I want to hear what you think about,
- 30:18Speaker 2: you know, this, the weight of expectations and burnout and
- 30:21Speaker 2: all that. But I feel like we're both very similar
- 30:23Speaker 2: where we just, we will go, go, go, go, go.
- 30:27Speaker 2: And I had to learn you know, a couple of times,
- 30:30Speaker 2: like the hard way, like I can't, I can't keep
- 30:33Speaker 2: doing this for such a long period of time and
- 30:36Speaker 2: not give myself breaks and not allow myself to just
- 30:40Speaker 2: take a beat. It was really hard for me in
- 30:42Speaker 2: off seasons. I had to force myself for like a
- 30:46Speaker 2: couple of weeks to not run, to not do anything
- 30:48Speaker 2: because the thought of getting out of shape and then
- 30:49Speaker 2: having to get back into shape, I'm like, I dread this.
- 30:53Speaker 2: But as my career went on, I learned that It's
- 30:57Speaker 2: very important.
- 30:59Speaker 3: And that's when I just started to take some days off.
- 31:03Speaker 2: And, you know, I think it was crucial in kind
- 31:05Speaker 2: of having given me the longevity throughout my career. But TV,
- 31:13Speaker 2: you know, for you, like TV is different. Do you
- 31:17Speaker 2: think you put more of the expectation of your ability
- 31:23Speaker 2: on yourself or Is that coming from Fox?
- 31:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 31:27Speaker 1: You know, I think the expectation, it's kind of, there's
- 31:32Speaker 1: a lot to it. I mean, I always truly believed
- 31:37Speaker 1: and had a confidence I'd be doing this, right? I
- 31:39Speaker 1: think that there's like the athlete mindset of like, if
- 31:41Speaker 1: you work hard at this and believe it, you can
- 31:43Speaker 1: do it, right?
- 31:44Speaker 3: I believed it.
- 31:45Speaker 1: I always wanted to do this. But you also have
- 31:48Speaker 1: to have a confidence that you're not going to be
- 31:50Speaker 1: everyone's cup of tea. I have this crazy story that
- 31:53Speaker 1: I remember from when I first got hired at Fox.
- 31:57Speaker 3: And it was such a cool time.
- 32:00Speaker 1: And that whole audition, and I think we talked a
- 32:02Speaker 1: little bit about it on a different pod, but FS1
- 32:05Speaker 1: was launching, so they're hiring all these people, and it's
- 32:07Speaker 1: brand new, and a lot of different opinions on who
- 32:11Speaker 1: should be where and who should cover what. And there
- 32:14Speaker 1: was one boss at Fox who's no longer there, so
- 32:16Speaker 1: it's fine.
- 32:17Speaker 3: I'm still there. It's a good sign. See, that's the
- 32:19Speaker 3: version of me that's like, Well, I'm there still. Exactly.
- 32:23Speaker 3: Who had me in their office. I'm not kidding. This
- 32:25Speaker 3: is what he said. He was like, do you watch
- 32:27Speaker 3: The Voice? I was like, oh, no. I mean, kind of.
- 32:30Speaker 1: It was new at the time, so it's been a while.
- 32:32Speaker 1: It's like, oh, yeah, I've heard of this show. And
- 32:34Speaker 1: he's like, well, here's the thing. You don't make me
- 32:36Speaker 1: turn my chair.
- 32:37Speaker 3: And I was like, oh, wow.
- 32:40Speaker 1: That was the first time where it also kind of
- 32:42Speaker 1: hit me that this is like, this is the real deal.
- 32:46Speaker 1: Like you work at a network and you, you can't
- 32:49Speaker 1: make mistakes and you have to be at the top
- 32:50Speaker 1: of your game and hey, good, good thing I'm still there.
- 32:54Speaker 1: But it was also a kind of a weird, in
- 32:56Speaker 1: a good way, reminder that you just, you can't stop
- 32:59Speaker 1: working hard. And, you know, you're only as good as
- 33:01Speaker 1: your last time on TV.
- 33:03Speaker 3: You're only as good as the last time you've been,
- 33:04Speaker 3: you're on the field in a lot of ways, right?
- 33:06Speaker 1: Like I truly feel that, right? If I go on
- 33:12Speaker 1: what do I have week one? North Texas and Indiana.
- 33:15Speaker 1: If I screw up September 5th, like.
- 33:18Speaker 3: Who knows, right?
- 33:19Speaker 1: Like you just, you have to have the confidence that
- 33:22Speaker 1: you are able to do the job and confidence that
- 33:24Speaker 1: you are there for a reason. You're not going to
- 33:26Speaker 1: be everyone's first choice.
- 33:28Speaker 3: That's okay.
- 33:29Speaker 1: I can be someone's and I can also have a
- 33:32Speaker 1: style that's different than others.
- 33:33Speaker 3: So I just, I remember that so vividly that it's
- 33:37Speaker 3: a competitive world, but that's kind of where the sport background,
- 33:42Speaker 3: I think, in my life helped me.
- 33:44Speaker 1: Like, I can work hard and I can be good
- 33:45Speaker 1: at this. So the expectation... But I would imagine.
- 33:50Speaker 2: It's easier to maybe not have a great performance as
- 33:54Speaker 2: an athlete on a team sport or make a mistake...
- 33:58Speaker 2: That's true. than on live TV, right? Which is kind
- 34:01Speaker 2: of odd because I loved... I mostly played team sports
- 34:03Speaker 2: for that reason.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Like, I was a decent tennis player, but there was
- 34:06Speaker 1: a level of me that just didn't love the individual
- 34:10Speaker 1: mindset of tennis, yet as a sideline reporter, I'm the
- 34:14Speaker 1: only person I'm relying on is myself.
- 34:16Speaker 3: That's not entirely true.
- 34:17Speaker 1: Of course, I'm relying on the whole broadcast team, but
- 34:20Speaker 1: those 30-second reports where I'm adding into a game are
- 34:23Speaker 1: just really me. You're not really relying on anyone but yourself.
- 34:27Speaker 1: So that is kind of individual in a lot of ways.
- 34:29Speaker 1: So the expectation is always going to be to be
- 34:33Speaker 1: the best at you know, whatever I can do. Like,
- 34:35Speaker 1: I think this comes across, like, I try to help
- 34:37Speaker 1: other college kids who want to get into this. Like,
- 34:39Speaker 1: there's also room for a lot of us. It doesn't mean, like,
- 34:42Speaker 1: I can be the only sideline reporter who's out there. Like,
- 34:44Speaker 1: there can be many of us. We can work together. Like,
- 34:46Speaker 1: we mentioned Tom Rinaldi. Tom Rinaldi and I are very different. Like,
- 34:50Speaker 1: we can coexist and be great teammates and offer something
- 34:53Speaker 1: totally different to a broadcast as sideline reporters. That's why
- 34:57Speaker 1: it's fun to have him around. I think it's fun
- 34:59Speaker 1: to split sidelines because then I can only focus on
- 35:05Speaker 1: And I actually like having that freedom to just really
- 35:09Speaker 1: be focusing on one team and not two.
- 35:10Speaker 3: So anyways, there's a lot to the expectation.
- 35:13Speaker 2: So in the evolution of TV, like for me as
- 35:16Speaker 2: a player, you know, I always tried to evolve my play.
- 35:24Speaker 2: I mean, you couldn't stay the same player, you know,
- 35:27Speaker 2: for the earlier years. And as I got older, I
- 35:30Speaker 2: definitely had to change that. But for TV... I mean,
- 35:34Speaker 2: I'm still a rookie on TV and just do my
- 35:36Speaker 2: bits here and there. What is that evolution of Jenny
- 35:42Speaker 2: Taft continuing to get better and pushing on and, you know,
- 35:47Speaker 2: making yourself better?
- 35:48Speaker 3: What does that look like? That's a great question. It
- 35:52Speaker 3: really is interesting.
- 35:54Speaker 1: Like I mentioned the clips from college, thinking I was
- 35:58Speaker 1: just ready to go and how much I've improved even
- 36:01Speaker 1: from like the early FS1 days or my voice has
- 36:04Speaker 1: almost evolved in a way. I had a higher pitched
- 36:08Speaker 1: tone to my voice, which I think just naturally changed
- 36:12Speaker 1: as I got more confident. I used to smile a
- 36:14Speaker 1: lot too. Another Fox colleague at the time, who I
- 36:18Speaker 1: really appreciated feedback from, she was.
- 36:21Speaker 3: Like, you smile too much.
- 36:22Speaker 1: And I know you're a happy person, but I would
- 36:25Speaker 1: do it as like a crutch. So I'd be like,
- 36:27Speaker 1: right before a report, I would just be like, Just
- 36:30Speaker 1: smiling so, so big, like, because that was my nervous energy.
- 36:33Speaker 3: Like, I'm excited, ready to go. And I still smile.
- 36:37Speaker 3: That's my delivery, but there's a level of, like, you
- 36:41Speaker 3: just grin.
- 36:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:43Speaker 1: So it's so interesting, like, little things like that that
- 36:46Speaker 1: I've gotten better at. But I am so grateful that
- 36:49Speaker 1: I'm on the best college crew at Fox. And, like,
- 36:53Speaker 1: I don't take that for granted. I know that that's
- 36:55Speaker 1: a job a lot of people would want. I love
- 36:57Speaker 1: working on Big Noon Saturdays. I would love one day
- 37:00Speaker 1: to be a part of the NFL in some way, right?
- 37:02Speaker 1: Like even if I could add some games to my resume,
- 37:05Speaker 1: because at the end of the day, like the.
- 37:07Speaker 3: NFL is still king, right?
- 37:09Speaker 1: At Fox, like it'd be really cool to be a
- 37:12Speaker 1: part of that in some way, somehow. I've covered a
- 37:16Speaker 1: couple NFL games and it's the same, right? Same game, different,
- 37:19Speaker 1: but it's just a different energy to cover the NFL.
- 37:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I love that.
- 37:22Speaker 1: And just getting better at hosting. I mean, that's something
- 37:25Speaker 1: I'm always working on, new sports. There's nothing I won't cover.
- 37:29Speaker 1: I mean, I've kind of, I've hit it all.
- 37:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:33Speaker 3: I've hit a lot of sports. It keeps you fresh.
- 37:36Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 37:36Speaker 3: And the burnout, I mean, you travel, you're away from home.
- 37:41Speaker 2: You know me.
- 37:42Speaker 3: I love it, though, and I do love what I'm doing. Like,
- 37:44Speaker 3: I've got my suitcase right here, ready to go, ready
- 37:47Speaker 3: for college football season. Like, I've already started packing. When
- 37:50Speaker 3: do you leave for college football? Do you leave Thursday, Friday?
- 37:52Speaker 1: Thursdays, I normally try to, if I can drop JG
- 37:55Speaker 1: at school on Thursday, I like to see her in
- 37:58Speaker 1: the morning before I leave. I think that just, I
- 38:01Speaker 1: can tell her when I'm going to be back. It's just,
- 38:03Speaker 1: I like to, I don't like to leave before she's awake.
- 38:05Speaker 1: I found that as she's gotten older, I wonder if
- 38:07Speaker 1: that'll be something for you and Harper as she gets older.
- 38:10Speaker 1: But when I just leave, I'm gone in the morning,
- 38:13Speaker 1: that's hard for her, unless we've really talked about it.
- 38:16Speaker 1: So I try to take her to school, get on
- 38:18Speaker 1: a flight Thursday. Sometimes I can't do that if I'm
- 38:20Speaker 1: going to practice. So teams are 50-50 on if we're
- 38:25Speaker 1: allowed to attend practice, and if we even want to.
- 38:27Speaker 1: We don't always have to attend practice, but like Indiana
- 38:30Speaker 1: week one, I'm going to go to practice. I love
- 38:32Speaker 1: to see Coach Cignetti, and of course, week one, that's
- 38:35Speaker 1: important to do. So go in Thursday, practice sometimes. During
- 38:39Speaker 1: the week, I've talked to players and coaches. All week
- 38:43Speaker 1: at various times. That's the harder part. Just talking to them,
- 38:47Speaker 1: of course, at their convenience. So at times you're chatting
- 38:50Speaker 1: late night. You never know when players are free. So
- 38:52Speaker 1: maybe five to 10 players total each week. 10, definitely
- 38:55Speaker 1: the max. And then all day Friday, it's just meet
- 38:59Speaker 1: with the home team coaches, production meeting. Maybe we're doing
- 39:03Speaker 1: a tape segment for the big noon show.
- 39:06Speaker 3: Just it's busy.
- 39:07Speaker 1: Fridays are nonstop. And then we have another production meeting
- 39:09Speaker 1: at night where we go over everything. We sit As
- 39:12Speaker 1: a group of our 25 crew, like core crew, producer, director,
- 39:17Speaker 1: sideline producer, everyone, we do those meetings, similar. And we
- 39:21Speaker 1: just go over everything, all the graphics, every element that
- 39:26Speaker 1: may be used in the broadcast. And then we're up
- 39:28Speaker 1: at like 5.30. on Saturday, normally, because it's a noon game.
- 39:32Speaker 1: We leave early.
- 39:33Speaker 3: Football's long. Games are long. They're long. And then we
- 39:38Speaker 3: are rushing to that first flight. It is a game.
- 39:41Speaker 1: Joel Klatt and I play every Saturday. It's a dangerous game.
- 39:45Speaker 1: You can get on the earliest flight. Normally, it's like 5.00.
- 39:50Speaker 1: Which at 5.30, it's tight. Like we are, we literally
- 39:55Speaker 1: rush out of the stadium. And if there's a police escort,
- 39:57Speaker 1: it's a great day. Some schools are better than others.
- 40:01Speaker 1: So then I get home by midnight normally, but I'm
- 40:04Speaker 1: home on a Saturday. So it's all worth it. So yeah,
- 40:07Speaker 1: a little burnout, but like, I love it. I even
- 40:09Speaker 1: said to my husband, I was like, we're talking about
- 40:11Speaker 1: burnout a little bit today. He's like, yeah, but you
- 40:12Speaker 1: love what you do. And I think that's the thing
- 40:14Speaker 1: where I'll keep going because I love this.
- 40:18Speaker 3: So much. It's not really a job when you like
- 40:20Speaker 3: it so much. Well, we don't want to burn out,
- 40:23Speaker 3: so we're going to take a little break, as we need.
- 40:25Speaker 3: Do you need a breath break? I think you.
- 40:28Speaker 2: Need to make sure she's okay. They went silent. I
- 40:31Speaker 2: don't know if he drug her outside or what, but...
- 40:35Speaker 2: Quick check-in. All right.
- 40:36Speaker 3: We'll be right back. All right. We'll be right back. Yep. Carly,
- 40:49Speaker 3: welcome back, everyone. Thank you for listening to us.
- 40:51Speaker 1: When I say to you, what does playing the long
- 40:54Speaker 1: game mean? How has that impacted your career, your mindset?
- 41:00Speaker 1: What comes to mind?
- 41:02Speaker 2: It's a great question because I think so many people,
- 41:07Speaker 2: we as humans really just want that quick instant success, right?
- 41:11Speaker 3: It's like, what is.
- 41:12Speaker 2: The easiest diet to do where you can lose a
- 41:17Speaker 2: bunch of pounds in a short amount of time, you know, and,
- 41:21Speaker 2: and that really, that really doesn't work. Um, the way
- 41:26Speaker 2: that I approached my career was, it was the long
- 41:29Speaker 2: game approach. And I knew that if I did the
- 41:34Speaker 2: right things and that meant being consistent in everything that
- 41:39Speaker 2: I did, uh, there was no, there was no room
- 41:43Speaker 2: to half do these things.
- 41:45Speaker 3: Um, I had to sleep well. I had to eat well.
- 41:49Speaker 2: I had to be diligent about my recovery, find those
- 41:52Speaker 2: recovery strategies that worked for me.
- 41:54Speaker 3: And I had to train consistently.
- 41:57Speaker 2: So all of those things, time and time again, just
- 42:03Speaker 2: allowed me to constantly keep pushing and get better. And
- 42:08Speaker 2: the more fit I became, the more I would push on.
- 42:11Speaker 3: Hmm.
- 42:12Speaker 2: But I think it's just so important because, and it
- 42:15Speaker 2: was really hard for me. Honestly, it was really hard because,
- 42:18Speaker 2: like I said, I was on the national team in 2005.
- 42:23Speaker 2: The world, I mean, the big stage of 2015 World
- 42:29Speaker 2: Cup for me was 10 years later after I had started.
- 42:32Speaker 2: And I finally felt like everything had been paying off.
- 42:39Speaker 3: Like it took that long. 10 years, yeah. I mean,
- 42:43Speaker 3: I didn't have a lot of endorsements.
- 42:45Speaker 2: I was with Nike, maybe got a thing here or two,
- 42:49Speaker 2: had maybe a couple speaking engagements.
- 42:54Speaker 3: Yeah, there wasn't much. So my life changed in that moment. And....
- 43:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I just think it's, and then from that moment
- 43:03Speaker 2: on until the end of my career, it was still
- 43:05Speaker 2: the same things. You know, nothing had changed. I just,
- 43:08Speaker 2: because of that success, I wanted even more. And so
- 43:11Speaker 2: I was just obsessed with improving. I was diligent and
- 43:18Speaker 2: consistent with all of those different things. But it is
- 43:23Speaker 2: hard to stay like patient and, you know, wait. And
- 43:28Speaker 2: maybe see other people, like I'm sure you know, in
- 43:31Speaker 2: the field where they're, you know, getting the spotlight and
- 43:36Speaker 2: you're like, man, you know, like, when's that going to
- 43:39Speaker 2: happen for me? And you just have to stay patient.
- 43:43Speaker 2: You have to just kind of stay true to what
- 43:46Speaker 2: you believe. And we've talked about it before, you know,
- 43:49Speaker 2: treating people right and doing all the right things, being respectful.
- 43:54Speaker 2: All of that plays a role in what you get.
- 43:58Speaker 2: Within your career and your life. And I'm a big
- 44:01Speaker 2: believer in that.
- 44:01Speaker 3: So, yeah.
- 44:03Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know if the same applies to
- 44:05Speaker 2: you or, you know, how you went about your career.
- 44:09Speaker 2: I mean, you've talked about, you know, your interviews early
- 44:13Speaker 2: on and how they've evolved. But have you played the
- 44:17Speaker 2: long game approach?
- 44:18Speaker 3: I have.
- 44:18Speaker 1: You know, it's weird because this didn't come to mind
- 44:22Speaker 1: when I was picturing this conversation.
- 44:24Speaker 2: But....
- 44:26Speaker 1: When I got to FS1, so when I first moved
- 44:28Speaker 1: to LA, they hired me as a reporter, desk reporter.
- 44:33Speaker 1: There was this thing called three things you need to know.
- 44:35Speaker 1: So it was so long ago in the network. This
- 44:38Speaker 1: obviously ended a long time ago, maybe 10 years ago.
- 44:41Speaker 1: And we would come on air for 30 seconds and say,
- 44:44Speaker 1: you know, hey, I'm Jenny Taft. You're watching FS1 and
- 44:46Speaker 1: here are three things you need to know. So that's
- 44:48Speaker 1: really what they hired me to do. That was like,
- 44:50Speaker 1: I do these 30 second live hits twice an hour.
- 44:53Speaker 1: We'd have... like six-hour shifts. It was really crazy, but
- 44:57Speaker 1: a lot of people who are still working, you know,
- 45:00Speaker 1: in our world, it was me, it was Julie Swierbinks,
- 45:02Speaker 1: it was Molly McGrath, it was Ryan Field, Mike Hill,
- 45:07Speaker 1: all of these reporters are still working, right? And so
- 45:09Speaker 1: we're all hired to do this. But, you know, they
- 45:12Speaker 1: had other opportunities when they got to FS1 too, and
- 45:14Speaker 1: I didn't really. I was kind of hired a month
- 45:17Speaker 1: after everyone because they realized they needed more people. And
- 45:21Speaker 1: so early on in my FS1 days, they came to
- 45:24Speaker 1: me and said, like, how do you feel about motorcycle racing?
- 45:28Speaker 1: Do you know anything about this? And I kind of lied.
- 45:31Speaker 1: It wasn't really a lie because I knew a little bit.
- 45:33Speaker 1: I knew Ricky Carmichael was the GOAT. And I weirdly
- 45:37Speaker 1: knew that because my brother was into moto and had
- 45:40Speaker 1: a random poster. I did not know anything else about moto.
- 45:44Speaker 1: But they said, we need a reporter to cover this.
- 45:47Speaker 1: I remember feeling like some people were like, oh, she's
- 45:49Speaker 1: going to cover motorcycle racing. But in my head, it
- 45:53Speaker 1: was the long game. It was like, I don't care
- 45:55Speaker 1: what I'm being asked to do at Fox. I'm going
- 45:57Speaker 1: to go get some reps and I'm going to cover
- 46:00Speaker 1: motorcycle racing and I'm going to learn it and love
- 46:02Speaker 1: it and embrace it. It was the best thing that
- 46:05Speaker 1: ever happened to me by far as a reporter because
- 46:08Speaker 1: we would do these races.
- 46:10Speaker 3: And one, I did learn it. And I love it.
- 46:12Speaker 3: I still watch it. I'm still on social media.
- 46:14Speaker 1: I have like so much fun with Supercross fans because
- 46:17Speaker 1: they're like, we miss you.
- 46:18Speaker 3: And I'm like, I loved it too.
- 46:20Speaker 1: I think it was in Boston two years ago and
- 46:23Speaker 1: I actually went with Matt and we saw some of
- 46:25Speaker 1: the riders and like some of the crew and the
- 46:29Speaker 1: mechanics and like this amazing chiropractor that I got really
- 46:32Speaker 1: close with. And just like Ricky Carmichael, who I mentioned,
- 46:35Speaker 1: who's a broadcaster for the racing.
- 46:38Speaker 3: Anyways, I learned it. I embraced it.
- 46:40Speaker 1: I was like, if I can be a good reporter
- 46:41Speaker 1: at this, I can be a good reporter at anything.
- 46:45Speaker 1: And so that was my long game. Like, just go
- 46:47Speaker 1: get the reps, three-hour races. They would come to me
- 46:51Speaker 1: all the time for reports. So in a football game,
- 46:54Speaker 1: you might hear from me once a quarter, and that's
- 46:56Speaker 1: a good day.
- 46:57Speaker 3: These were like, now the reps is huge.
- 46:59Speaker 1: Reps, just reps, just racing, go up to riders, you know,
- 47:03Speaker 1: get their thoughts, just you're literally in the dirt all day.
- 47:06Speaker 1: It was the craziest, best thing because I just learned
- 47:10Speaker 1: so much. And I remember right before my first broadcast,
- 47:12Speaker 1: which we kind of mentioned at the beginning of this,
- 47:14Speaker 1: like being so, so nervous and thinking if I can
- 47:17Speaker 1: do this, like I can do, I can do this
- 47:20Speaker 1: because I don't know this sport that well. And I,
- 47:22Speaker 1: it took me a couple of weeks to win them over. Like, Oh, she's,
- 47:25Speaker 1: she can like tell stories. And that's, you know, I
- 47:28Speaker 1: think I told you this, like it was someone at
- 47:30Speaker 1: Fox who was setting up the women's world cup.
- 47:32Speaker 3: They'd see me in supercross. It was like, The long game.
- 47:35Speaker 1: Just get your reps. I don't care where you get them.
- 47:38Speaker 1: I always tell people like go be an in arena host.
- 47:40Speaker 1: I did that too. Like just go practice. And now
- 47:44Speaker 1: just set up a camera and practice all on your own.
- 47:47Speaker 1: So I just so appreciate like those moments when I
- 47:50Speaker 1: remember thinking like some people are judging me for this
- 47:52Speaker 1: and it was by far the best thing that ever
- 47:54Speaker 1: happened to my career.
- 47:55Speaker 3: And, you know, you just never know.
- 47:57Speaker 2: Yeah, it's very interesting because the reps, as you talk about,
- 48:02Speaker 2: are massive. And I mean, I hated public speaking. I
- 48:08Speaker 2: was not good at it. And early on in my career,
- 48:11Speaker 2: I did these small little speaking engagements and I had
- 48:17Speaker 2: to get up in front of people.
- 48:19Speaker 3: And I mean, I dread it. I absolutely dread it.
- 48:22Speaker 2: But then doing interviews, you know, talking to you, talking
- 48:26Speaker 2: to others, doing press conferences, like all of those reps
- 48:32Speaker 2: because of all of that. And what I would do
- 48:35Speaker 2: with every interview that I had throughout my career and
- 48:39Speaker 2: obviously every speaking engagement that I had and the opportunity
- 48:43Speaker 2: is I would prep and I would go and I
- 48:47Speaker 2: would do it.
- 48:48Speaker 3: But I would prep for my interviews. Like I prepped,
- 48:51Speaker 3: I always asked for questions.
- 48:53Speaker 2: And it wasn't to, you know, just make sure, I mean,
- 48:56Speaker 2: a little bit of it, you want to make sure
- 48:58Speaker 2: that the questions are, you know, they're asking the right
- 49:01Speaker 2: things and you don't want hot topics and all those things.
- 49:03Speaker 2: But I would demand the questions so that I could
- 49:08Speaker 2: start formulating my thoughts in my head. And I would
- 49:11Speaker 2: sort of take a day or two to kind of
- 49:14Speaker 2: rehearse those And then when I would go and do
- 49:17Speaker 2: the interview, you know, I just got more and more comfortable.
- 49:21Speaker 2: And now, post-career, I mean, I've made a career of
- 49:26Speaker 2: speaking engagements. I go out and I get paid to speak.
- 49:30Speaker 2: And now I'm in this TV space. And it's only
- 49:33Speaker 2: because of what I did during my career. I mean,
- 49:37Speaker 2: I didn't really have any media training, of course. people
- 49:40Speaker 2: at Fox have helped and chimed in and given me.
- 49:46Speaker 3: The little tidbits of what I could do.
- 49:48Speaker 2: I've learned from everybody I've worked with as well. So
- 49:51Speaker 2: it's just kind of interesting how, yeah, that just kind
- 49:55Speaker 2: of all comes to play.
- 49:58Speaker 3: It seems natural though to you.
- 49:59Speaker 1: Like it just seems, I think watching you on TV,
- 50:02Speaker 1: it looks like you've been doing it always. And I
- 50:05Speaker 1: guess I got to know you in 2015, but you
- 50:07Speaker 1: were always such a great interviewer.
- 50:09Speaker 3: You were thoughtful. you were not long winded. You were
- 50:12Speaker 3: like a great interview. Well, I appreciate that.
- 50:14Speaker 2: No, I mean, I, I, I think it also helps
- 50:18Speaker 2: to just be authentic. It's, you know, I'm, I'm not,
- 50:22Speaker 2: I'm not trying to be somebody different. You know, I'm,
- 50:27Speaker 2: I'm just kind of approaching things the way that, um,
- 50:30Speaker 2: we're just speaking here, you know, I, but I'm speaking
- 50:34Speaker 2: on air and, and I'm, I'm saying what I want
- 50:36Speaker 2: to say.
- 50:36Speaker 3: So yeah, I don't know.
- 50:38Speaker 2: I've always just, wanted to be somebody that if I'm
- 50:42Speaker 2: going to speak it, you know, it, it's going to
- 50:45Speaker 2: mean something.
- 50:46Speaker 3: It's not just fluff or just speaking to speak. yeah.
- 50:51Speaker 3: Did you ever think about coaching? No, not really. I
- 50:56Speaker 3: know that a lot of people in the, the soccer
- 50:58Speaker 3: world are, are wanting more and more women, women to
- 51:01Speaker 3: get into coaching.
- 51:04Speaker 2: I just don't, it's so nice to be out of
- 51:08Speaker 2: the pressure and, being in it for so long was,
- 51:12Speaker 2: it's a lot. And I know that I'm, you know,
- 51:15Speaker 2: the TV world, yes, that is pressure. It's different pressure.
- 51:20Speaker 2: But yeah, coaching, the pressure, you got to get the licenses,
- 51:24Speaker 2: you're busy.
- 51:27Speaker 3: You're busy, more busier than a player. So for sure.
- 51:31Speaker 2: For me, the TV keeps me in and around the game,
- 51:34Speaker 2: being able to work. these month-long tournaments, you know, has
- 51:38Speaker 2: been something that's been good. But, yeah, I don't really
- 51:41Speaker 2: have a passion for coaching. Now, people, like, ask me,
- 51:46Speaker 2: you know, be Harper's coach?
- 51:47Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, I mean, I don't know. That's a
- 51:50Speaker 3: great point. That would be really hard. I don't think
- 51:53Speaker 3: anyone's going to let me coach anyone around Gigi at
- 51:55Speaker 3: this point. No, not after the dentist visit.
- 51:59Speaker 1: Gigi's still too young to feel, I mean, we're going
- 52:01Speaker 1: to soccer, but it's mostly, like, organized freeze tag at
- 52:04Speaker 1: this point, so.
- 52:07Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 52:09Speaker 2: I think it would be, yeah, it's going to be
- 52:13Speaker 2: probably difficult. I think what's going to be the most
- 52:17Speaker 2: challenging thing is letting Harper and this new baby that's
- 52:23Speaker 2: coming along just be, but if they're not working hard
- 52:28Speaker 2: and kind of being respectful and doing those things, like,
- 52:32Speaker 2: Those are kind of non-negotiables. I know. I think that's
- 52:35Speaker 2: going to be the challenging bit. It's not really about
- 52:38Speaker 2: how they'll be as athletes or performing, but yeah, the
- 52:43Speaker 2: work ethic thing is going to be hard.
- 52:46Speaker 1: Well, and it's like my parents, the one thing they
- 52:48Speaker 1: were so adamant with me about, it was if you
- 52:50Speaker 1: sign up for something, like you're finishing it out. There
- 52:52Speaker 1: was no, you're not quitting early. You're not finished. Like,
- 52:56Speaker 1: I don't even remember the sport. I pretty much played
- 52:58Speaker 1: everything growing up, but like, you don't, stop playing anything
- 53:01Speaker 1: like and if you're signed up you go to practice
- 53:03Speaker 1: like you're never quitting and that was so ingrained in
- 53:06Speaker 1: me and I see that in such a different way
- 53:08Speaker 1: now with with kids and sports and being forced into
- 53:12Speaker 1: things and it had to be my my terms like
- 53:14Speaker 1: I was the one who wanted to do it and
- 53:16Speaker 1: it was self-driven in a lot of ways so is
- 53:19Speaker 1: there anything else passion-wise that you are still thinking about
- 53:22Speaker 1: I mean I know this podcast is kind of a
- 53:24Speaker 1: new passion and fun project for both of us but
- 53:26Speaker 1: anything else that you're like you know what one day
- 53:28Speaker 1: I know you're pretty busy and It's a good question.
- 53:32Speaker 2: Because it's so crazy. Honestly, like TV was not on
- 53:38Speaker 2: my radar. Even podcasting. I'm like, who wants to podcast?
- 53:42Speaker 3: But here we are. I'm doing like two things. I
- 53:45Speaker 3: was so happy when you were like, maybe.
- 53:46Speaker 1: I think we talked about it so long ago, casually
- 53:49Speaker 1: at a, maybe at the seminar, one of the World
- 53:52Speaker 1: Cup seminars.
- 53:53Speaker 3: Like, would you maybe want to do this with me?
- 53:55Speaker 3: Because I.
- 53:56Speaker 1: I just wasn't going to do it with anyone that
- 53:58Speaker 1: I didn't have a great relationship with.
- 54:00Speaker 3: I'm so glad we're able to do it together. But
- 54:02Speaker 3: I was always worried. I'm like, does she really want
- 54:03Speaker 3: to do this? No, yeah, no, definitely.
- 54:07Speaker 2: And I think what I love about what we're doing
- 54:10Speaker 2: is it's not just soccer. It's not just sports.
- 54:15Speaker 3: We can talk about life stuff.
- 54:18Speaker 2: And that's how I like to kind of talk with people,
- 54:21Speaker 2: just a whole variety of different things and just learn
- 54:25Speaker 2: about different things. aspects of life and people and how
- 54:29Speaker 2: they approach things. So, but yeah, passions. I'm not, I'm
- 54:34Speaker 2: not really sure. I mean, who knows what's going to
- 54:36Speaker 2: come down the pipeline. I mean, I want to continue
- 54:39Speaker 2: to do TV. I think that that's, you know, something
- 54:42Speaker 2: that I still like to do. So hopefully those opportunities
- 54:46Speaker 2: keep coming, but yeah, I don't know. How about you?
- 54:49Speaker 2: Do you have any little side hustles going on? I mean,
- 54:53Speaker 2: you bring up a good point about fashion too with, yeah, well, Actually, yes.
- 54:58Speaker 2: What I was going to say about the TV thing
- 55:00Speaker 2: that I think some people don't realize, you know, we
- 55:02Speaker 2: always say, you know, you're only good as your last performance,
- 55:04Speaker 2: but we also have contracts, right? Like there's no stability
- 55:08Speaker 2: in really what we do, which is a hard thing
- 55:10Speaker 2: about television, which, you know, again, like I love, love,
- 55:14Speaker 2: love what I'm doing when I don't want to do
- 55:16Speaker 2: anything else.
- 55:17Speaker 3: I don't care working on weekends.
- 55:18Speaker 2: Love it.
- 55:19Speaker 3: Miss weddings. Don't worry about it.
- 55:21Speaker 1: I'm not coming if it's in the fall and that's okay.
- 55:23Speaker 1: But you know, there's no stability, right? Like we all
- 55:26Speaker 1: have contracts and you sign contracts. And I know a
- 55:28Speaker 1: lot of people that we work with, like a lot
- 55:31Speaker 1: of their contracts were up until or through the World Cup.
- 55:34Speaker 3: So people are making choices and, you know, trying to resign.
- 55:37Speaker 1: And there's a lot of fear in that part of
- 55:39Speaker 1: this job, which is, I think, the hardest part about
- 55:41Speaker 1: television in a lot of ways. You just got to
- 55:44Speaker 1: have that confidence. But passion-wise, I'm excited to share with you.
- 55:48Speaker 1: I've been working on a sock company.
- 55:51Speaker 3: Oh, really? A sock brand. Yep. Unity Road. It's going
- 55:55Speaker 3: to come out soon. Socks. You will be first to
- 55:58Speaker 3: get those socks, Carly.
- 56:00Speaker 2: Are you just been uber passionate about socks or what
- 56:04Speaker 2: make these socks so special?
- 56:06Speaker 1: It's very random, but both my friend and I, Kim,
- 56:10Speaker 1: so she really started the idea and I kind of
- 56:13Speaker 1: came on with enjoying fashion and having like a little
- 56:16Speaker 1: bit of space in the sports space.
- 56:18Speaker 3: They're socks. They're athletic socks, but they're going to give back.
- 56:22Speaker 3: They're fun.
- 56:22Speaker 1: They're just stylish in a way that are different. I mean,
- 56:25Speaker 1: I feel like socks sound so unsexy, but we're going.
- 56:28Speaker 3: To make them fun. So I'm going to get you
- 56:30Speaker 3: some socks immediately in the mail. It's so in the works.
- 56:32Speaker 3: I am really excited.
- 56:34Speaker 2: Maybe some are going to have grippies.
- 56:38Speaker 3: Well, so that's an idea. That's going to be maybe
- 56:40Speaker 3: a next option. down the line launch because that's a
- 56:44Speaker 3: space but we don't want to like only do grip
- 56:46Speaker 3: socks that just takes out a whole audience right now
- 56:48Speaker 3: they're unisex there's a lot to socks so.
- 56:53Speaker 2: Okay well we're in my office closet like going there
- 57:01Speaker 2: yeah we're honestly launching pretty soon we're gonna we're working
- 57:04Speaker 2: on social media I mean as if any of us
- 57:06Speaker 2: have more time to do anything but The biggest thing
- 57:09Speaker 2: is it's just fun and different to kind of have
- 57:11Speaker 2: a creative eye in a space that obviously is unique.
- 57:15Speaker 3: But hey, everyone needs socks, right? It's like fun. Well,
- 57:18Speaker 3: that's awesome.
- 57:19Speaker 2: Well, if you get some grippy socks and it's for
- 57:21Speaker 2: my delivery date, maybe I can wear them, you know,
- 57:25Speaker 2: wear them in when I'm delivering the baby.
- 57:28Speaker 1: Either way, I'm going to make some for you. Just
- 57:31Speaker 1: make sure we have them for then.
- 57:32Speaker 3: Okay, I got a timeline. Okay, there you go. We're
- 57:36Speaker 3: gonna work on the socks.
- 57:36Speaker 1: So Carly and I are still figuring out what we
- 57:39Speaker 1: want this podcast to be. Yes, it's going to discuss soccer,
- 57:43Speaker 1: but so, so much more family life and mom life and,
- 57:47Speaker 1: you know, advice. And we'll have fun guests, hopefully. So
- 57:50Speaker 1: please do subscribe, review, follow on social, submit questions, give
