- 0:00Speaker 1: Adam Lefkoe here in the middle of it all. There
- 0:03Speaker 1: wasn't a question. There wasn't a doubt. There were some
- 0:06Speaker 1: incredible plays and highlights you've got to see. But Pedro Martinez,
- 0:10Speaker 1: the Yankees have been eliminated.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Eliminated and now they're the Tampa Bay Rays kids.
- 0:18Speaker 3: Oh!
- 0:18Speaker 1: I didn't know we were going there.
- 0:20Speaker 2: They are. They are.
- 0:21Speaker 4: So you're saying the Rays are their daddy.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Yeah, the Rays are their daddy. Isn't that what I
- 0:27Speaker 2: just said?
- 0:27Speaker 4: I just want to make sure you say it.
- 0:29Speaker 2: The Yankees, no, the Yankees are the Rays' kids. So
- 0:36Speaker 2: I hope everybody got it. But I must say, congrats
- 0:40Speaker 2: to the Tampa Bay Rays. And the Warriors that they have,
- 0:44Speaker 2: even though they're really young and some of them have
- 0:46Speaker 2: been my daddies, but congratulations to him. Great manager, great
- 0:51Speaker 2: pitching coach, great organization. What an example they have set
- 0:56Speaker 2: for all of us to learn about the proper brand
- 1:00Speaker 2: of baseball that should be played. Nowadays, you know, I'm
- 1:04Speaker 2: extremely happy for them.
- 1:05Speaker 1: It's aggressive. It is fun. It's a beautiful brand. We
- 1:08Speaker 1: also now know what we are going to have tomorrow night.
- 1:11Speaker 1: We are not going to have raising Yankees. It's officially
- 1:14Speaker 1: over but you can join us tomorrow 7 o'clock Guardians
- 1:18Speaker 1: White Sox Guardians offense came a lot came alive will
- 1:21Speaker 1: relive that momentarily White Sox now up two to one
- 1:25Speaker 1: winner will face the Tampa Bay Rays Guardians got to
- 1:28Speaker 1: win two. White Sox just win one. Let's go through
- 1:32Speaker 1: some of the biggest moments. We saw Victor Mesa Jr.
- 1:35Speaker 1: there for a while. Brian Anderson there talking about his father.
- 1:38Speaker 1: What a moment that has to be to hit that
- 1:41Speaker 1: hit at that stadium.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Just to be a name, to come up in his story,
- 1:45Speaker 3: his background, his family's legacy, the lineage, and not only,
- 1:49Speaker 3: like you said, in Yankee Stadium. But to come there
- 1:51Speaker 3: a few weeks ago to clinch the division and then
- 1:54Speaker 3: be there in this moment, you talk about how to
- 1:57Speaker 3: pimp a home run. That's how you do it. I mean,
- 2:00Speaker 3: he's still in the box. He still hasn't dropped the bat.
- 2:03Speaker 3: But if you want to send a message, this is
- 2:06Speaker 3: the place to send it and the time to send it.
- 2:08Speaker 3: This is the biggest moment of his career. Why not
- 2:11Speaker 3: stand there and admire it?
- 2:13Speaker 1: It was a first pitch hanging sweeper, 77 miles an hour,
- 2:17Speaker 1: and he was all over.
- 2:19Speaker 4: He took advantage of a mistake, and we talk about
- 2:22Speaker 4: this in the playoffs. You have to. You can't let
- 2:26Speaker 4: pitchers get away with throwing hanging with a fastball, changeup,
- 2:29Speaker 4: curveballs over the middle of the plate without making them pay.
- 2:33Speaker 4: That was a situation, we talked about the raise, every
- 2:36Speaker 4: man up counts. It's not relying on the superstars. This
- 2:39Speaker 4: is your job. What can you do to help us win?
- 2:42Speaker 4: In that moment, his job was to hit that hanging
- 2:44Speaker 4: curveball 390 feet into the right field bleachers, and give
- 2:48Speaker 4: the Rays this victory to go into the ALCS. But
- 2:51Speaker 4: he had that mentality, like he said. He was told,
- 2:54Speaker 4: you're going to be up in a situation, and it's
- 2:57Speaker 4: going to be your moment. He's never forgotten when he
- 3:00Speaker 4: was told that. And when you have that, you look
- 3:03Speaker 4: for it. Is this my moment? Is this my moment?
- 3:06Speaker 4: Is this my moment? You go hunting. So when it comes,
- 3:09Speaker 4: the moment is never too big for you. And he
- 3:11Speaker 4: did what he was supposed to do. He let his
- 3:13Speaker 4: team know, boys, I got us.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Six pitchers went for the Rays today. Started off with
- 3:19Speaker 1: Nick Martinez. He was out after three and two-thirds. Ended
- 3:22Speaker 1: with Baker there. We talked so much about the Yankee
- 3:25Speaker 1: pitching coming in, especially the starters. The Rays pitchers pitched
- 3:29Speaker 1: a pretty darn perfect series.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Yeah, but make no mistakes. The Yankees really did well
- 3:35Speaker 2: when it comes to pitching. They couldn't put everything they
- 3:38Speaker 2: wanted together together. But the Rays have always been equally
- 3:43Speaker 2: as good. And kudos to Cashman and that great pitching coach,
- 3:47Speaker 2: probably the best pitching coach in all of baseball, for handling.
- 3:52Speaker 4: Cash, not Cash.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Akash. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I got you.
- 3:57Speaker 4: I got you.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Akash did an outstanding job at juggling those guys. Even
- 4:02Speaker 2: though they got a little bit to Jax, I think
- 4:06Speaker 2: the way he handled everybody was just great. I'm extremely
- 4:10Speaker 2: happy and they deserve everything they're going to get. And
- 4:14Speaker 2: I hope they take it all the way to the
- 4:15Speaker 2: World Series because this Tampa Bay team is very different
- 4:19Speaker 2: than the previous Tampa Bay teams. teams that we have seen.
- 4:23Speaker 2: And the way they handle everyone and everyone just adjusts
- 4:28Speaker 2: to the roles, it's just beautiful to watch. Right along
- 4:31Speaker 2: with playing the defense that they play, timely hitting, and
- 4:34Speaker 2: they don't strike out much.
- 4:36Speaker 1: We've seen this before where the closer comes in. What
- 4:38Speaker 1: a great year he's had. I remember Brad Lidge with
- 4:40Speaker 1: you guys, but Baker for the Rays, tied for the
- 4:43Speaker 1: Major League lead in terms of safe, came in 30
- 4:45Speaker 1: in a row. Got a little bit dicey there in
- 4:48Speaker 1: the ninth, but able to settle in.
- 4:50Speaker 4: You know, calm down.
- 4:51Speaker 3: You need to be battled in certain situations, but you
- 4:53Speaker 3: know you're going to get the chance to get the
- 4:55Speaker 3: ball put in play. And having Hicks come out and
- 4:58Speaker 3: talk to him and say, hey, just calm down. You're
- 5:00Speaker 3: our guy. Just do the things that you know you're
- 5:02Speaker 3: capable of. Let's have fun. What better moment to be
- 5:04Speaker 3: in than a chance to send us to the ALCS?
- 5:07Speaker 3: And you say, okay, all right, yeah, let me reset
- 5:09Speaker 3: and realize how good I am and go out there
- 5:11Speaker 3: and deliver like he was able to do in this moment.
- 5:13Speaker 2: But once again, it's that great pitching coach and the
- 5:16Speaker 2: perfect timing. You saw how the catcher just looked over
- 5:20Speaker 2: to the dugout and right away he popped up and
- 5:24Speaker 2: went out to give him a little talk or settle
- 5:27Speaker 2: him down and right away he clicked. That's how much
- 5:30Speaker 2: they know their own pitching stuff.
- 5:33Speaker 1: So look, they swept them, right? So it was a
- 5:35Speaker 1: lot more to overcome than one play. But we have
- 5:37Speaker 1: to talk about that Volpe double because was it a
- 5:39Speaker 1: Volpe home run, right? So sixth inning, man on first,
- 5:43Speaker 1: Volpe comes up, unloads one. What a high pop that
- 5:48Speaker 1: just keeps drifting and going and going. And images of
- 5:52Speaker 1: Jeffrey Mayer just pop into your head, reaching over. It
- 5:55Speaker 1: happened in a flash. Then we saw a million replays
- 5:59Speaker 1: from the side angle, the front angle. Did he reach over?
- 6:01Speaker 3: Jimmy, what did you.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Think about the ruling? What did you think about the play?
- 6:04Speaker 4: I thought they got the ruling absolutely correct. When the
- 6:08Speaker 4: ball's in play and the hands are over the wall,
- 6:12Speaker 4: it's an automatic double. Automatic. It doesn't matter what you say.
- 6:16Speaker 4: If you're here and the ball doesn't hit you in
- 6:18Speaker 4: the chest, if it's hitting your hands when you're in
- 6:19Speaker 4: the field of play, it's an automatic double. Ball is dead.
- 6:22Speaker 4: To go back and then, what was going to happen?
- 6:25Speaker 4: Was that runner going to score? I've been in a
- 6:27Speaker 4: situation where... At the time, I didn't understand that they
- 6:30Speaker 4: can go back and rule that the runner's gonna score.
- 6:32Speaker 4: When the ball is dead, it's dead. Everybody goes back
- 6:34Speaker 4: and resets. No. They have a chance to look at
- 6:37Speaker 4: the runner, look at his speed. Where was he when
- 6:39Speaker 4: the play happened? And usually from there, it's two bases
- 6:42Speaker 4: when the play is going on. So you look at Lombard,
- 6:45Speaker 4: which I thought he should have been sprinting. I don't care.
- 6:48Speaker 4: You go out there and you run until the play
- 6:50Speaker 4: is dead.
- 6:50Speaker 1: He was full celebration.
- 6:52Speaker 4: So at this point, he's in between second and third
- 6:56Speaker 4: when Mesa goes back and hits the wall. If that
- 6:59Speaker 4: ball is live, if that ball bounces halfway back to
- 7:01Speaker 4: the infield, there's no chance he's getting out at home plate.
- 7:05Speaker 4: But the run on second is automatic that the play
- 7:07Speaker 4: is dead there. So I thought they got it absolutely correct. Now.
- 7:11Speaker 4: Yankee Stadium has that. Right field, they have it figured out.
- 7:15Speaker 4: It's a little gap. But left field, it's still nothing
- 7:18Speaker 4: but a foot or so where you can stick out.
- 7:20Speaker 4: But that's the beauty of the ballpark, that these plays happen.
- 7:23Speaker 4: We saw it benefit the Yankees years ago. And this time,
- 7:26Speaker 4: it probably took a little bit away.
- 7:27Speaker 3: And the tough part is, you're going to see the
- 7:30Speaker 3: angles that we saw. And everyone's going, oh, it was
- 7:32Speaker 3: or it wasn't. When they're looking at the replay booth
- 7:34Speaker 3: in New York, they have other camera angles that we
- 7:36Speaker 3: don't all get to see and the audience doesn't get
- 7:39Speaker 3: to see. So they're seeing a whole bunch of things.
- 7:41Speaker 3: And there's three umpires sitting there making a decision based
- 7:45Speaker 3: off of all the different camera angles, some of which
- 7:47Speaker 3: we don't get a chance to see at home.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Volpe was a big addition. He came out there two
- 7:52Speaker 1: for four and RBI Lombard went two for three. But Grisham, Bellinger,
- 7:56Speaker 1: and Wells today combining to go 0 for 11. A
- 7:58Speaker 1: lot of the meat of that lineup. Ben Rice, another
- 8:02Speaker 1: hit today as well. But some of the Yankee batters
- 8:04Speaker 1: went quiet. And then you just kind of ask yourself,
- 8:07Speaker 1: what would this team have been like if Aaron Judge
- 8:09Speaker 1: was healthy? It's a question we'll never be able to answer.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Well, they're going to have to wait another year to
- 8:13Speaker 2: figure that out. It's unfortunate because Judge is really the
- 8:20Speaker 2: biggest representative for the organization and for the team and
- 8:24Speaker 2: for the lineup, as a matter of fact. Without Judge,
- 8:29Speaker 2: they look vulnerable. And we kept saying it. We kept
- 8:33Speaker 2: saying it. They are different without Judge and his leadership.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Not that he wasn't there to gather everybody together and
- 8:42Speaker 2: tell them, hey, let's go, let's get things rolling. He
- 8:45Speaker 2: was there, but it's different being in the lineup, being
- 8:50Speaker 2: in the middle of the situation with his teammates.
- 8:53Speaker 1: It's also a little shocking to sit here and think
- 8:55Speaker 1: that in the last month of the season, you could
- 8:57Speaker 1: argue that Rodon was the hottest pitcher in Major League Baseball.
- 9:00Speaker 1: He doesn't step on the bump one time for the
- 9:03Speaker 1: New York Yankees.
- 9:04Speaker 3: Like we said, I mean, everyone has to be available.
- 9:06Speaker 3: I don't know if he would have had anything to
- 9:07Speaker 3: do with this game.
- 9:09Speaker 1: No, the Yankees pitching did great, like Pedro said.
- 9:11Speaker 3: They did a ton of things. I mean, going into today,
- 9:13Speaker 3: the starters had only given up three earned runs this
- 9:15Speaker 3: whole series. But when you had four aces like you
- 9:17Speaker 3: talked about, hopefully you get a chance to use them.
- 9:20Speaker 3: But credit to the Rays by doing what they did
- 9:22Speaker 3: to send the Yankees home early.
- 9:23Speaker 1: 17 years, Pedro, since their last world championship.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Well, and they're going to have to wait one more year.
- 9:31Speaker 3: They're not waiting. The Tampa Bay Rays. This is the
- 9:34Speaker 3: second time in two weeks.
- 9:36Speaker 1: They have popped bottles at the George Steinbrenner Palace. This
- 9:40Speaker 1: one's got to be sweet. Yandy Diaz said, as a
- 9:43Speaker 1: Tampa Bay Ray, there's nothing sweeter than celebrating at the
- 9:46Speaker 1: Yankees place.
