Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Despite the fact that Shane Jones said no more money
- 0:02Speaker 1: for RAL, Cabinet has approved a five minute end old
- 0:04Speaker 1: bone for Fucking Papa Holdings limits it to buy RuPay
- 0:07Speaker 1: Who's Fucker Papa ski Field, So the loan hangs on
- 0:10Speaker 1: Fucker Papa Holdings getting a concession to run the skifield
- 0:13Speaker 1: from the Department of Conservation. This could be complete by April,
- 0:16Speaker 1: ready for the twenty twenty five ski season. So Dave
- 0:19Speaker 1: Maysie as a man trying to hold it all together
- 0:20Speaker 1: and joins in Now, Hello.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Dave, Hello Andrew, how are you.
- 0:24Speaker 1: I'm very good and obviously I'm a former life pass
- 0:28Speaker 1: owner from nineteen seventy six. Mate, I want this field
- 0:31Speaker 1: to go, will it? I wanted to work.
- 0:34Speaker 2: No, it'll go. It'll work, it will be successful and
- 0:38Speaker 2: it'll get back to contributing to central North of Island
- 0:42Speaker 2: economy in particular and the lifestyle of a lot of Kiwis.
- 0:46Speaker 1: It's fuck Papa Holdings in any way related to the
- 0:49Speaker 1: old RAL rupey who our plane lips?
- 0:52Speaker 2: No, No, I'm the own me. You're the only one
- 0:54Speaker 2: an individual that's got an association with RAL from years
- 0:58Speaker 2: gone by.
- 0:59Speaker 1: The government's giving cash I mean, do you have private
- 1:01Speaker 1: backers who will step in from April?
- 1:05Speaker 2: You know, there's a group of investors that come out
- 1:07Speaker 2: of the South Island Office, which is a cross Chage
- 1:10Speaker 2: based investment company and myself the investors. If you get.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Approval from the Department of If you get approval from
- 1:18Speaker 1: the Department of Conservation, it comes to in April, does
- 1:21Speaker 1: that give you enough time to be skiing in July.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Well, the receivers will be trading the company up until
- 1:31Speaker 2: that settlement day and they'll be preparing it for winter.
- 1:36Speaker 2: So yes, we don't have an issue with it.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Something I've always asked is if I wondered about is
- 1:42Speaker 1: what's happening to the ski clubs that are on Fuckerpata
- 1:45Speaker 1: because there's about forty or fifty of them up there.
- 1:47Speaker 1: I used to belong to Christiania Made of Mine, used
- 1:49Speaker 1: to be the president of Tahara Nuku. I mean, there's
- 1:52Speaker 1: a lot of infrastructure up there that is dependent on
- 1:55Speaker 1: people being able to ski.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's part of the risks for Focker Parper
- 2:02Speaker 2: not trading going towards there's fifty eyed lodges there. They're
- 2:06Speaker 2: still they're still there. There's still very much as you
- 2:09Speaker 2: will remember. And if the skier is not, there reasonable
- 2:16Speaker 2: expectation that those lodges will all all those clubs will
- 2:19Speaker 2: fall over and that for the next five to ten years,
- 2:23Speaker 2: and someone's got to pick up the cost of their removing.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Oh yeah, now that's the other thing. When when this
- 2:30Speaker 1: field falls over or touro fall falls over, the Department
- 2:34Speaker 1: of Conservation demands that you then have to re establish
- 2:37Speaker 1: the mountain. You're going to take down the kit another
- 2:39Speaker 1: and if you had to take down all the ski
- 2:40Speaker 1: field kit, that's one hundred million dollars to take down
- 2:43Speaker 1: a holiday kit that does nothing.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Why well, it's a World Heritage site that's sincerely strong
- 2:51Speaker 2: and highly regarded attributes associated with them on or it's
- 2:56Speaker 2: incredibly significant to local ee and you don't lead strained
- 3:00Speaker 2: their sets in a national park. When road bridges get
- 3:06Speaker 2: roads get realigned, and a bridge is redundant through a
- 3:08Speaker 2: national park, it gets fully removed in the land restored,
- 3:10Speaker 2: same principle.
- 3:11Speaker 1: So expensive and one last question.
- 3:13Speaker 2: The companies were clubs have gone into receivership or liquidation,
- 3:18Speaker 2: then that that cost falls on dark or the government.
- 3:23Speaker 1: And finally the skywalker, which is the gondola. Is that
- 3:27Speaker 1: separate to the ski operation? I mean, will that always
- 3:29Speaker 1: continue because it has a sightseeing thing, it has a
- 3:33Speaker 1: restaurant at the top. Is that sort of separated from
- 3:35Speaker 1: the rest of the company and the operation.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Now that it's one of the assets that will be.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Buying so which means you can operate all year long. Dave, look,
- 3:46Speaker 1: I wish you obviously only the best of luck and
- 3:48Speaker 1: we should know this by April.
- 3:50Speaker 2: For more from earlier edition with Ryan Bridge, listen live
