- 0:30Speaker 2: Gambling problem called one hundred gambler age and eligibility restrictions
- 0:33Speaker 2: supply void.
- 0:34Speaker 3: We're primitive. See DraftKings dot com for details.
- 0:36Speaker 2: I'm here to say that Bobby Petrino is offensive coordinatord
- 0:38Speaker 2: Arkansas and it's wild.
- 0:40Speaker 3: It's wild.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Blow the whistle. I got two updates. There's an extra
- 0:45Speaker 2: episode this week because I just got tw freaking updates.
- 0:46Speaker 2: I got to talk about. One is this thing and
- 0:49Speaker 2: it's not When I started to see other outlets covering
- 0:51Speaker 2: it and being like holy crap, I was like, Okay,
- 0:53Speaker 2: it's just not a personal thing. We can really talk
- 0:55Speaker 2: about it on this show. The second thing is the
- 0:57Speaker 2: bears in the bet.
- 0:58Speaker 3: I made that.
- 0:58Speaker 2: I said I was gonna make that. I think people
- 1:00Speaker 2: didn't think I was gonna make you did it so
- 1:03Speaker 2: and they almost blew it. But whatever, we'll get to
- 1:05Speaker 2: that too. I'm glad everybody's here. Why don't we start
- 1:08Speaker 2: with the bet so if you're new to this program, Oh,
- 1:14Speaker 2: I like that, the classic program. I like to at
- 1:18Speaker 2: least have a bit of authenticity with this is how
- 1:21Speaker 2: much I'm betting. Here's some of my picks. Is what
- 1:23Speaker 2: I did to a loser to win? Kevin told you
- 1:25Speaker 2: the games I boom and I got the information. And
- 1:29Speaker 2: it turns out that had a really bad weekend last weekend.
- 1:32Speaker 3: It turns out I knew it was bad, but I
- 1:35Speaker 3: know it's as bad as it were. You have a
- 1:37Speaker 3: feeling when it's not going well. Yeah, but then I
- 1:39Speaker 3: just stopped feeling.
- 1:40Speaker 4: He even texted me it's a bad weekend.
- 1:41Speaker 3: It's a bad weekend.
- 1:43Speaker 2: So this is pre that Bears game over the weekend
- 1:47Speaker 2: n CAA football, I lost four nine and Ney dollars.
- 1:50Speaker 3: Oh yeah, Oh it's a gud punch. So you know
- 1:58Speaker 3: that sucked? What was me to say?
- 2:01Speaker 1: So?
- 2:02Speaker 2: I was like, I get a question, question, I got
- 2:04Speaker 2: to get back into this. Yeah, you tell the wife
- 2:06Speaker 2: about that? Oh yes, she knows I'm super No. No, no,
- 2:09Speaker 2: when you have a bad weekend, you say like, yeah,
- 2:11Speaker 2: I had a rough week.
- 2:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I machine care.
- 2:13Speaker 5: She knows this.
- 2:13Speaker 2: There's one thing that I'm going to do. It's be
- 2:15Speaker 2: responsible with freaking money. Okay, you're labeling this as responsible. Yeah,
- 2:21Speaker 2: it's like if you were losing a quarter.
- 2:24Speaker 3: I know.
- 2:24Speaker 6: And you say that, dude, and I when I drive home,
- 2:26Speaker 6: I'm like, god, oh I thought I made good money.
- 2:32Speaker 2: I think it's all relative, right, yeah, all relative? So no, no,
- 2:36Speaker 2: that's not I also see if I'm starting to be like, oh,
- 2:39Speaker 2: like I stopped playing poker because I was getting too obsessed.
- 2:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:43Speaker 2: So no, And I told her I was like, any
- 2:46Speaker 2: of the Bears to win about five thoultard dollars on it.
- 2:48Speaker 3: She was like, are they any good? I was like, no,
- 2:50Speaker 3: watch you bet them? Why are we watching this game?
- 2:53Speaker 3: So okay.
- 2:53Speaker 2: So I was down basically five four hundred and thirty
- 2:57Speaker 2: five dollars going into that game. So I bet five
- 3:02Speaker 2: thousand dollars on the Bears plus three, which is a
- 3:06Speaker 2: whack you bet, which is crazy because the Bears just suck.
- 3:09Speaker 6: Yeah, and Dobbs has been on a roll. He's been
- 3:14Speaker 6: on Okay, I would say a role he had.
- 3:16Speaker 4: I mean they blew the last game before that game,
- 3:18Speaker 4: he had a big entrance.
- 3:19Speaker 3: Oh non't need to playbook.
- 3:20Speaker 2: So all that press makes you say so he played
- 3:22Speaker 2: pretty good a role, though, I don't know if I
- 3:25Speaker 2: put it on that. So this is what's up I go.
- 3:30Speaker 2: I say on the show, it's give me my last bet.
- 3:32Speaker 2: If I lose of the year, it's about over anyway.
- 3:35Speaker 3: I really which I didn't believe you when you said that.
- 3:37Speaker 2: I really enjoyed betting college football way more than a NFL.
- 3:40Speaker 2: I don't bet as much NFL I do some I
- 3:43Speaker 2: feel like I'm not near as good as betting the NFL,
- 3:46Speaker 2: or at least feeling like I'm as knowledgeable about what's happening. Please,
- 3:49Speaker 2: So I'm like, let's just give it a run, and
- 3:52Speaker 2: if it's over, it's over. I bet five thousand dollars
- 3:54Speaker 2: on the Bears plus three to win four thousand, nine
- 3:58Speaker 2: hundred and thirty seven dollars something like. That game starts
- 4:04Speaker 2: justin Fields is on fire. To start the game. They
- 4:06Speaker 2: drive down the field, He's like six for six, he's
- 4:09Speaker 2: making plays, he's sliding. It is perfect for the dumpoom
- 4:15Speaker 2: stalled phild goal on the first drive.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Correct.
- 4:19Speaker 2: If they missed, I think whatever it was, it didn't
- 4:22Speaker 2: feel that good because I felt like they were driving
- 4:24Speaker 2: all the way down.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Well, then it just turns into a dog crap of
- 4:27Speaker 2: a game where nobody's doing anything.
- 4:30Speaker 3: I was betting punts. Were you making them on eighty Nope?
- 4:33Speaker 3: I think we got more turnovers than punts. Really, so
- 4:37Speaker 3: I'm feeling pretty good.
- 4:38Speaker 2: At one point in the game, when it's like nine
- 4:41Speaker 2: to three, maybe so the Bears are up, maybe six
- 4:47Speaker 2: to three, six to three. The point spreads messing on
- 4:49Speaker 2: my mind.
- 4:49Speaker 3: Here.
- 4:49Speaker 2: The Bears are up, and if the Viking kick a
- 4:53Speaker 2: field goal, I mean I'm I don't remember. I just
- 4:59Speaker 2: remember or they fumbled twice and almost cried.
- 5:01Speaker 4: They were up nine to three and driving when you texted.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Me, okay, is that what it was?
- 5:05Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 5:05Speaker 2: And they had plus three because they had and then
- 5:09Speaker 2: they kicked a field goal regardless if the Vikings would
- 5:12Speaker 2: have scored again, it had been over for me.
- 5:13Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Correct, And Justin Field's fumbled twice to try to give
- 5:16Speaker 2: it to them. Yeah, back to back, and my butt
- 5:19Speaker 2: was puckered, but I never cashed out. I kept sending
- 5:22Speaker 2: Eddie from way early on, I was like, cash out,
- 5:24Speaker 2: And what.
- 5:24Speaker 3: Did I say? Every time? Yes? You know the answer
- 5:26Speaker 3: is every time, yes, But.
- 5:29Speaker 5: I hit it.
- 5:30Speaker 2: And so right now as it stands, I'm not down
- 5:34Speaker 2: near as much. I've total wager this year seventy nine
- 5:37Speaker 2: thousand dollars and I'm down about one thousand bucks.
- 5:41Speaker 3: It's pretty good, man. That's entertaining right there.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Oh yeah, much time I spent watching games because I'm
- 5:47Speaker 2: like dialed in because of the one hundred bucks I bet.
- 5:50Speaker 6: So we got you watching too, Lane and utsa dude like,
- 5:53Speaker 6: let's go baby, good job. So okay, that's the first thing.
- 5:56Speaker 6: I want to get that out of the way. The
- 5:58Speaker 6: second thing is Bobby Betray.
- 6:00Speaker 3: You know.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Who is the greatest razorback football coach of my lifetime.
- 6:07Speaker 2: He won the last two years before he left he went.
- 6:09Speaker 2: He won ten games in eleven games. He had us
- 6:11Speaker 2: a game away from national championship. People forget that because
- 6:15Speaker 2: we're a Lola Arkansas. We'll do a commercial then I'm
- 6:18Speaker 2: gonna tell you what the deal is.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Oh, we got to wait.
- 6:20Speaker 2: All right here we are, I mean, I can't believe it.

- 7:33Speaker 2: some little pops online what ARKANSA I'll talk to Bobby
- 7:36Speaker 2: Petrino as the offensive coordinator. Now, Bobby Petrino wasn't loved
- 7:41Speaker 2: by the people he was close to there, but I'm
- 7:43Speaker 2: not close to him.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Who cares, Right, you're just a fan. It's like an
- 7:45Speaker 3: artist who says good songs. Sure, you're not asking, you're
- 7:48Speaker 3: not on the road, you're not his roading. You know,
- 7:50Speaker 3: he's not throwing whiskey at me. He's not throwing his guitar.
- 7:55Speaker 3: Good songs.
- 7:55Speaker 2: That's all right, like win games. So the legend has
- 7:59Speaker 2: it and the internet that's the legend. And he was fired.
- 8:06Speaker 2: So some of the stuff's going to be a little
- 8:08Speaker 2: little muddley.
- 8:11Speaker 3: There was this woman there. He's having an affair with
- 8:12Speaker 3: her at Arkansas.
- 8:15Speaker 2: He hires her to do a job, but he was
- 8:19Speaker 2: already apparently having the fair, allegedly having the affair before
- 8:23Speaker 2: he hired her. He also gave her a gift of
- 8:26Speaker 2: like twenty thousand dollars, like a cash for a car.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Who got it.
- 8:32Speaker 2: She was also engaged to, like one of the volleyball
- 8:33Speaker 2: coaches at the University of Arkansas. So he's doing his
- 8:37Speaker 2: deal whatever that deal is not gonna judge, yeah, a little.
- 8:41Speaker 3: Bit, I will, but.
- 8:43Speaker 2: It ends up getting found out where he got into
- 8:45Speaker 2: real trouble. Wasn't the affair coach that a fares all
- 8:47Speaker 2: the time. Sometimes you hear about it. Sometimes they get
- 8:49Speaker 2: pushed under. But he was paying somebody he hired, somebody
- 8:53Speaker 2: he was having sex with.
- 8:54Speaker 3: Oh he can't do that. There's a word for that. Yeah, yes,
- 9:00Speaker 3: So the word is bad. It's one of them.
- 9:04Speaker 2: So they have to fire him. Now what's happening before
- 9:08Speaker 2: that is he's out on a motorcycle. Remember the press
- 9:10Speaker 2: conference where he comes in a neck brace and his
- 9:12Speaker 2: face is all eat up.
- 9:12Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I'll never forget that.
- 9:14Speaker 3: So they fire him.
- 9:15Speaker 2: He still does the press conference, but he comes in
- 9:17Speaker 2: and he's like road rash on his face, neck brace.
- 9:20Speaker 2: He's like, uh, apparently wreck the motorcycle. Had to call
- 9:28Speaker 2: the cops. The cops came, she was with him, had
- 9:30Speaker 2: to put her in the report. Nothing they could do.
- 9:34Speaker 2: That's how it was found out. He wrecks the motorcycle.
- 9:38Speaker 2: He's eat up, he's in a neck brace. I'm sad,
- 9:42Speaker 2: and this is what you call rock bottom.
- 9:44Speaker 3: It's tough. So myth has it.
- 9:51Speaker 5: On the internet.
- 9:52Speaker 3: It says unconfirmed allegedly big terms there.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Maybe the motorcycle accident didn't happen it was staged m hm.
- 10:08Speaker 2: Or maybe it wasn't near as bad and possibly the
- 10:12Speaker 2: fiance beat the crab out of them. Oh, they never
- 10:16Speaker 2: find the motorcycle like they did. The rumor is allegedly
- 10:25Speaker 2: possibly that that could have happened. Okay, they ended up
- 10:29Speaker 2: quitting the day after he was fired. It's a whole
- 10:33Speaker 2: dramatic deal. But I'm so happy he's back. He's learned.
- 10:38Speaker 3: Oh, people can be rehabilitated.
- 10:41Speaker 4: How does the community feel though the artwork?
- 10:43Speaker 3: We just want to win. We don't care win games.
- 10:46Speaker 2: I don't care if you graduated freaking player, don't graduate.
- 10:48Speaker 3: A player, pay them all crimes, keep him wonder.
- 10:52Speaker 2: I just want to win, like I don't even care.
- 10:54Speaker 2: If we win a title, you have to take the
- 10:55Speaker 2: banner down in five years.
- 10:57Speaker 6: I know you're being funny, like, no, no, only partially
- 11:00Speaker 6: partially being funny, But this is these are conversations that
- 11:03Speaker 6: real programs.
- 11:04Speaker 4: Yeah, let's go, do we really care?
- 11:07Speaker 3: Guys?
- 11:07Speaker 2: So what's interesting is, you know, he leaves Arkansas for
- 11:10Speaker 2: a while and does some coach and stuff. He goes
- 11:12Speaker 2: up to Missouri State almost beats us. He comes into
- 11:14Speaker 2: Arkansas a couple of years and almost beat us, goes
- 11:17Speaker 2: over to He's gonna be the UNLV offensive coordinator. But
- 11:19Speaker 2: before that job even starts, Jimbo Fisher hires him at
- 11:22Speaker 2: Texas A and M. The issue of Texas A and
- 11:24Speaker 2: M is and their offense was a little better, but
- 11:25Speaker 2: Jimbo Fisher's an offensive guy and really was just the
- 11:29Speaker 2: offensive coordinator wasn't one to play caller. So as much
- 11:33Speaker 2: as their offense improved a little bit, obviously, Jim Boke
- 11:36Speaker 2: still got fired, but he wasn't really able to run
- 11:39Speaker 2: the offense.
- 11:40Speaker 5: Now.
- 11:40Speaker 2: I don't know Bob petrainos an offensive coordinator, only knowe
- 11:42Speaker 2: was a head coach and he's doing some shady stuff too.
- 11:44Speaker 2: Back in the day, who was it exactly? He was
- 11:47Speaker 2: at it covering it up. Come on, But it's so
- 11:50Speaker 2: exciting to me. Who hires him? Like, who does the hiring?
- 11:55Speaker 2: You're a check and the big deal he's an eighty.
- 11:57Speaker 2: The big deal was he got fired for cause, and
- 11:59Speaker 2: then you can't rehire somebody when you fired them for
- 12:03Speaker 2: cause and they had to like overrule a law or something.
- 12:06Speaker 3: It's awesome because we needn't we don't. We want to win.
- 12:10Speaker 4: What about the kJ Jefferson stuff, because I'm about that.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I literally just I've been in meetings for like
- 12:15Speaker 2: the past two hours. I saw nothing about him doing anything.
- 12:19Speaker 2: kJ jeffersons our quarterback. I'm not even open Twitter. Can
- 12:23Speaker 2: you tell me what the deal is?
- 12:24Speaker 5: Yes?
- 12:25Speaker 4: So what I'm seeing is there are reports that he's
- 12:27Speaker 4: expected to leave to transfer portal enter the transfer portal.
- 12:31Speaker 4: Oh now he posted I just saw like an hour
- 12:33Speaker 4: ago or so on his Instagram. I haven't made a
- 12:37Speaker 4: decision yet.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Well, Arkansas's got a new nil called Arkansas Edge now
- 12:40Speaker 2: that they're bringing in. That's like four more million bucks
- 12:43Speaker 2: a year. Cool, So that's what's going to make the difference.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Can they pay more? What he makes a really good living? Now, yeah,
- 12:50Speaker 2: he does good.
- 12:51Speaker 4: And then some people are saying it's because they're bringing
- 12:52Speaker 4: in Patrino, But I don't know about all that.
- 12:55Speaker 2: kJ Jefferson's not really Petrino's type of quarterback. But kJ
- 12:58Speaker 2: Jefferson's a good quarterback, and that's Petrino's type of quarterback.
- 13:03Speaker 3: I don't know that.
- 13:03Speaker 2: kJ Jefferson is one of those guys that does a
- 13:06Speaker 2: lot of multi checks at the line, but he's extremely
- 13:12Speaker 2: athletics bright guy, but he's not up there trying to
- 13:14Speaker 2: dissect a defense with his mind. He's up there figure
- 13:16Speaker 2: how to run through them or how to get the
- 13:18Speaker 2: ball to somebody quickly.
- 13:20Speaker 3: If he stays, great, If he leaves, I won't like that.
- 13:23Speaker 2: But I won't be that upset because I'm just now
- 13:25Speaker 2: going to trust this process. And by the way, this process,
- 13:28Speaker 2: it's one year. If they don't win next year, everybody's
- 13:31Speaker 2: gone from up there and everybody knows that it's awesome.
- 13:34Speaker 2: I can't wait. I'm excited again. I went from being
- 13:36Speaker 2: like this sucks, life sucks. Eight football, Let's go time machine.
- 13:40Speaker 2: I did message by Petrino, who I DMed him. Yeah,
- 13:46Speaker 2: and here's the thing, I don't know him because I
- 13:48Speaker 2: only started to have a little bit of a presence
- 13:51Speaker 2: within the program in the past, like seven or eight
- 13:53Speaker 2: years when I started A having a bit more notoriety
- 13:56Speaker 2: and b having a bit more money, because I would
- 13:58Speaker 2: just be like, I got money, let me donate it. I
- 13:59Speaker 2: want to be part of it. And so I never
- 14:02Speaker 2: knew him. I never met him. And I went on
- 14:05Speaker 2: Twitter because I tagged him in something. I was like, all, hell,
- 14:07Speaker 2: Bobby Petrino National Championship next year, partially kidding but not really.
- 14:14Speaker 2: And I saw he followed me on Twitter right after
- 14:17Speaker 2: you posted that. No, I went to I went, yeah,
- 14:20Speaker 2: but he didn't follow me after that. I actually, as
- 14:22Speaker 2: soon as I posted, I went over to his pag
- 14:24Speaker 2: real quick. I said, he follows you. Oh so he
- 14:26Speaker 2: must have. I mean he could have been following you
- 14:28Speaker 2: for a while. Then. Oh yeah, I'm assuming he was. Wow,
- 14:30Speaker 2: but I don't think he posts a lot. So I
- 14:32Speaker 2: messaged him thirteen hours ago. It's sent but not seen yet.
- 14:40Speaker 4: I guess he's probably got a lot of DMF you
- 14:42Speaker 4: go through.
- 14:42Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, but I mean, but not from you. Am
- 14:45Speaker 2: I a jockstrap sniffer? Because I messaed him immediately, I
- 14:49Speaker 2: was like glad to see you back, coach, Chip me anything.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Maybe in town in a few weeks if you're around,
- 14:54Speaker 2: here's my cel phone number. What do you think he
- 14:56Speaker 2: needs a friend from me? Understanding support? Okay, I can't wait,
- 15:03Speaker 2: I can It's crazy. It's like if Bill Belichick was
- 15:09Speaker 2: gonna go be offensive corner for somebody.
- 15:12Speaker 4: To you, that's what he is. He is that big Tom.
- 15:14Speaker 2: He's our greatest coach. He's a great coach in my lifetime. Again,
- 15:17Speaker 2: we had ten and two eleven to one seasons with him.
- 15:20Speaker 2: We were in the national top five, top seven.
- 15:23Speaker 5: It was crazy.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Yeah, and the only reason it stopped is because he.
- 15:27Speaker 3: Had road rational his face neck brace. Hey whatever, he
- 15:30Speaker 3: does his own time. Jain hurting.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Kids are dogs, have at it, buddy, Wait you on that.
- 15:35Speaker 2: So I am as long as we're winning. I am
- 15:38Speaker 2: excited anyway. So those are two updates I wanted to
- 15:41Speaker 2: get on here today. Pretty good is there? We'll do
- 15:43Speaker 2: another show coming out later in the week. Is there
- 15:46Speaker 2: anything you guys would like to say?
- 15:50Speaker 3: Kevin?
- 15:51Speaker 4: This transfer portal is wild season hasn't even fully ended yet,
- 15:54Speaker 4: and Wilder and these players are just like Will Howard
- 15:57Speaker 4: from k State. He's leaving our team.
- 16:01Speaker 3: So here's another thing that's happening too with the portal.
- 16:04Speaker 2: Obviously, there's a lot of poaching where people are calling
- 16:07Speaker 2: going hey, we'd love to have you, or they're going
- 16:10Speaker 2: through people. But there's also like a dark money in
- 16:12Speaker 2: IL that's happening, which is you can pay anybody anything
- 16:17Speaker 2: to do anything. Oh you to sign doing this. Here
- 16:20Speaker 2: have twenty five thousand dollars doing this. Oh you're gonna
- 16:23Speaker 2: stay at the program. Okay, our collective will pay you
- 16:25Speaker 2: a million dolls whatever it is. But now the dark
- 16:30Speaker 2: money in ils are Okay, we're gonn give a twenty fifty
- 16:34Speaker 2: thousand dollars deal, but only one twenty five is gonna
- 16:36Speaker 2: be taxable that they know about. The other one twenty
- 16:37Speaker 2: five will be cash because these players are having to
- 16:39Speaker 2: deal with taxes.
- 16:40Speaker 5: Yeah, so.
- 16:43Speaker 3: They're like partially dark money in IL.
- 16:45Speaker 6: It's like going on a game show man, like, yeah,
- 16:47Speaker 6: it's cool you win a car, but then you got
- 16:49Speaker 6: to pay on that.
- 16:50Speaker 4: It just makes me wonder, like how long these players
- 16:52Speaker 4: have been bruined this during the season?
- 16:55Speaker 3: Oh did I be brewing at every game?
- 16:57Speaker 4: That's crazy to me that you're able to play with
- 16:59Speaker 4: your team and be committed to your team quote unquote,
- 17:02Speaker 4: and you enter the portal three days of it.
- 17:05Speaker 3: It's a business decision, that's all. Yeah. But there are
- 17:07Speaker 3: also kids though, like how responsible are they? Exactly? That's awesome, right,
- 17:11Speaker 3: I wouldn't.
- 17:12Speaker 2: I'll be thinking of money all the time, sure, especially
- 17:14Speaker 2: if you're a kid that comes from no money. I
- 17:18Speaker 2: mean when I was doing my last contract here, it
- 17:21Speaker 2: was on my mind every day for like seven months
- 17:23Speaker 2: and we just got wrapped up like a month and
- 17:24Speaker 2: a half ago. Every day because there was I was
- 17:27Speaker 2: just thinking about or somebody was, or I was having
- 17:30Speaker 2: a conversation with or.
- 17:31Speaker 5: As every day.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Now, imagine if you're nineteen and other people are charping
- 17:38Speaker 2: at you too. Does it take the pressure off of
- 17:41Speaker 2: like draft and your next move you know where? Like
- 17:46Speaker 2: back in the day, you know, yeah, you made some
- 17:49Speaker 2: money under the table or whatever, but I mean your
- 17:51Speaker 2: big money was getting drafted in the NFL and playing
- 17:53Speaker 2: in the NFL. Here you're like, oh, I can make
- 17:55Speaker 2: some good money now because I might not get drafted.
- 17:58Speaker 2: It keeps people in college a bit longer if they're
- 18:02Speaker 2: making equal or more than they would if they were
- 18:04Speaker 2: a six seventh round pick or USFA Yeah, UFS a
- 18:11Speaker 2: unrestricted free agent Unris Yeah.
- 18:13Speaker 4: Oh I thought we're talking about usfl Ors.
- 18:15Speaker 3: No, they talk about Steve Austin.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yes, my letters man, I've been right, so yes,
- 18:20Speaker 2: and not only that, like a guy like k J.
- 18:23Speaker 2: Jeffers would probably have gone out for the draft and
- 18:25Speaker 2: been a fifth round pick and made eight hundred thousand
- 18:28Speaker 2: bucks a year, which is a great amount of money.
- 18:30Speaker 3: However, he could probably make a million three.
- 18:33Speaker 2: That one percent of players can probably make a million
- 18:36Speaker 2: a million three if they go a quarterback, especially.
- 18:38Speaker 4: And potentially build his draft stock and bed do.
- 18:41Speaker 3: That as well.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Right, yes, so And what's cool though, too, on the
- 18:46Speaker 2: positive side of it is that I think a lot
- 18:48Speaker 2: of these scouts, like well have John midlecough fine later
- 18:50Speaker 2: in the week, who was an NFL scout, has his
- 18:52Speaker 2: own show now he had to go in just kind
- 18:55Speaker 2: of assume what players would do once they got rich, Like, Okay,
- 18:58Speaker 2: this is what they're like. They're gonna first second round picks.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Oh god, are they gonna go crazy when they get money. Now,
- 19:04Speaker 2: they're getting money already and you can kind of see
- 19:07Speaker 2: the decisions are making already.
- 19:09Speaker 3: Without real help.
- 19:13Speaker 2: So I think that's good for the next level because
- 19:16Speaker 2: you're not gonna have a lot of guys going in
- 19:17Speaker 2: the first second round that are paid millions of dollars
- 19:20Speaker 2: and all of sudden they're.
- 19:20Speaker 3: All right, I'm gonna go crazy.
- 19:21Speaker 5: That's cool.
- 19:22Speaker 3: It's like going to college after your homeschooled.
- 19:26Speaker 2: You kind of wouldn't know your homeschool forever, but now
- 19:28Speaker 2: you're gonna go away and go to college and go
- 19:30Speaker 2: You're gonna go, yes, now I'm in college. Say you
- 19:34Speaker 2: go to college. I'll say you go to homeschool for
- 19:37Speaker 2: up to grade ten, but eleven twelfth grade, you're like,
- 19:38Speaker 2: I'm gonna go to a private or public school if
- 19:40Speaker 2: you around other kids, and that's a little bit of
- 19:42Speaker 2: an integration to understand what it's going to be like
- 19:44Speaker 2: when you go off.
- 19:46Speaker 3: So I love it.
- 19:47Speaker 4: I watched that new Beckham that series. I just watched
- 19:50Speaker 4: one episode, but just talking about this, he talks about
- 19:53Speaker 4: how when he was younger, his first like major deal,
- 19:55Speaker 4: he would get the paid on Friday and it was
- 19:57Speaker 4: all spent by Sunday, which is wild. So his kids
- 20:00Speaker 4: are probably doing the same thing he was nineteen or
- 20:02Speaker 4: eighteen time.
- 20:03Speaker 3: For sure, it'd be awesome, O can he not?
- 20:05Speaker 2: I wish it I'd been an athlete now instead of
- 20:07Speaker 2: back then, because back then, at make any money, you
- 20:08Speaker 2: would have been more.
- 20:09Speaker 3: Now. Have you all watched the Barry documentary on? Have
- 20:14Speaker 3: you watched that?
- 20:15Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 20:15Speaker 4: I watched it last weekend?
- 20:16Speaker 6: Okay, yeah, what is it? It's about Barry Sanders. No,
- 20:19Speaker 6: And I think it's always a Netflix or Hulu.
- 20:22Speaker 5: I believe.
- 20:22Speaker 6: I keep seeing it, you know, pop up when I
- 20:25Speaker 6: sliding on shows or whatever, and I'm like, oh, I
- 20:26Speaker 6: want to watch that, but my wife doesn't want to
- 20:28Speaker 6: watch that with me, so I got to get my
- 20:29Speaker 6: own time.
- 20:29Speaker 5: To do that.
- 20:30Speaker 3: Yeah, toulu, it's why you haven't seen it. I have not.
- 20:32Speaker 4: It's why he retired early, like he finally talks about it.
- 20:34Speaker 3: Because the Lions are like a disaster.
- 20:37Speaker 4: I'm not going to get into spoilers.
- 20:40Speaker 5: Kevin.
- 20:41Speaker 2: We have a new episode of Too Much Access up
- 20:43Speaker 2: with the BYU volleyball team. I'm surprised. I'm surprised at
- 20:46Speaker 2: how passionate people are for this one. It's a little different.
- 20:51Speaker 2: I don't know if it's it's more passionate. Obviously there
- 20:55Speaker 2: aren't as many volleyball fans as football fans just a
- 20:57Speaker 2: numbers game, but maybe they're volleyball fans are just so
- 21:01Speaker 2: so much more passionate. Yeah, but it's crazy people like
- 21:04Speaker 2: you gotta do this cool. It's like we did volleyball
- 21:06Speaker 2: because it was kind of funny and we were there.
- 21:09Speaker 2: But also Heather ol Instead, like I don't often say this.
- 21:12Speaker 3: But she's like a g oh, yeah, she's awesome. Like
- 21:16Speaker 3: I was ready to.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Suit up and sit the bench. Yeah, and I don't
- 21:21Speaker 2: want to sit the bench, right, but just to be
- 21:23Speaker 2: under her leadership. So it's our sit down with BYU
- 21:25Speaker 2: women's head volleyball coach Heather Instead. She played it coach
- 21:28Speaker 2: as you wanted to call her. Yeah, I don't want
- 21:29Speaker 2: to call her Heather. She like everybody calls me Heather.
- 21:31Speaker 2: I'm like, I can't do that. I must respect you.
- 21:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:34Speaker 2: She played at Utah State from ninety eight two thousand
- 21:36Speaker 2: and one. Was on the US professional team two thousand
- 21:38Speaker 2: and two two thousand and three. The tournament's this week,
- 21:40Speaker 2: so BYU is the four seed heading Cuba D one
- 21:43Speaker 2: women's tournament this week. Their first game it's Friday night
- 21:47Speaker 2: against Weber State at nine pm Eastern. Let's go, yeah,
- 21:50Speaker 2: follow the team's Twitter account at BYU Volleyball to keep
- 21:53Speaker 2: up at the tournament. Is this tournament like basketball where
- 21:56Speaker 2: they do Friday Saturday or Thursday, Friday, Saturday Sunday.
- 21:59Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean you look it up and the brackets
- 22:00Speaker 4: look the exact same.
- 22:01Speaker 3: But I mean, did they take the week off and
- 22:03Speaker 3: they go again.
- 22:04Speaker 4: Then they go again in the following weekend?
- 22:05Speaker 3: I believe, So well, let's go. I'm rooting for him.
- 22:08Speaker 3: I mean, you got Arkansas in there too, are you there?
- 22:10Speaker 3: A three seeds? Are you torn at all?
- 22:12Speaker 6: My arcants are always but they're on the same side,
- 22:15Speaker 6: I don't think. I think they're on different sides. So
- 22:18Speaker 6: hopefully maybe they meet each other at the end.
- 22:20Speaker 4: They're on different sides.
- 22:21Speaker 3: Yeah, when does Arkansas play?
- 22:22Speaker 4: They play Friday at seven o'clock Ard time.
- 22:26Speaker 3: Who are they playing? Uh, Steemen at Boston? I think, right, yeah, yeah,
- 22:31Speaker 3: really you're torn?
- 22:33Speaker 6: No, No, I went to same Housion State Seemen at
- 22:35Speaker 6: Boston with my That was Oh, so.
- 22:37Speaker 4: You're a big razorback guys.
- 22:38Speaker 3: Yeah, dude. That was the Battle of the Pines. Man
- 22:40Speaker 3: Battle of the Pines. That's why I looked like that
- 22:42Speaker 3: was like eminem and Marshall matters.
- 22:44Speaker 5: They changed their name.
- 22:45Speaker 3: It was like, wrong with you, guys? All right, here's
- 22:50Speaker 3: coach Heather Almstad.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Before you walked in, Coach Eddie and I were talking
- 22:54Speaker 2: and we were debating on what to call you, because
- 22:58Speaker 2: I said, no, we have to call her coach, and
- 23:01Speaker 2: then Eddie said, no, why don't we just call her
- 23:02Speaker 2: by our first name?
- 23:03Speaker 7: Her name's Heather. I'm like, let's just call her Heather.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Hear you, but it's a well she called right, Okay,
- 23:09Speaker 2: I hear you, but Heather. But I feel like you're
- 23:12Speaker 2: doing a job that is very respectful. You're also a
- 23:16Speaker 2: very successful person at that job that I said, hey,
- 23:18Speaker 2: let's call our coach coach imps at at first, and
- 23:21Speaker 2: then if she's like, no, call me Heather, then I
- 23:23Speaker 2: probably still won't, but at least we know.
- 23:25Speaker 8: Yeah, I hear you. I got players that are the
- 23:28Speaker 8: same way.
- 23:28Speaker 5: And does some of your players call you Heather?
- 23:30Speaker 8: All my players call me Heather. But there's some players
- 23:32Speaker 8: that call me coach, especially younger players that are recruiting,
- 23:36Speaker 8: and some of it's culturally in their culture. It's respectful,
- 23:40Speaker 8: So I'd let it fly because if that's what they're
- 23:42Speaker 8: comfortable with calling me coach, then it's kind of endearing.
- 23:45Speaker 5: So is that purposeful for the culture that you have
- 23:48Speaker 5: with your team?
- 23:49Speaker 8: I started coaching at twenty three, and so everyone called
- 23:54Speaker 8: me Heather. I was an assistant coach all the way
- 23:55Speaker 8: up till twenty fifteen here at BYU, So it felt
- 23:58Speaker 8: weird all of a sudden in twenty fifteen to say no, no, no,
- 24:01Speaker 8: call me coach all of us, because you know, when
- 24:03Speaker 8: you're an assistant, it's and I was young. I was
- 24:05Speaker 8: almost their same age, so I'm okay with Heather.
- 24:09Speaker 2: And so since you were here and it stayed, the
- 24:10Speaker 2: name had to stay. I hate the name Bobby Bones.
- 24:15Speaker 2: And because it's not my real name, and so what
- 24:16Speaker 2: do we call names Bobby? Well, no coach Bobby, but
- 24:20Speaker 2: my name's Bobby. But when I was seventeen or eighteen,
- 24:23Speaker 2: they were like, your name's Bobby Bones, and everywhere I
- 24:25Speaker 2: went was connected to the last place I could shake
- 24:27Speaker 2: it because everybody knew it.
- 24:29Speaker 5: So, uh, yeah, I'm gonna call you coach because I
- 24:32Speaker 5: think that what you really want.
- 24:33Speaker 7: But he also coach. He also can't call his father
- 24:36Speaker 7: in law dad, or I've.
- 24:38Speaker 5: Never called him a name. He says, hey, it never
- 24:41Speaker 5: because I didn't know what to call him. Do I
- 24:43Speaker 5: say Bill? Do I say Pops? Do I say I
- 24:48Speaker 5: don't know? So I just decided warely on I was
- 24:50Speaker 5: calling him nothing.
- 24:51Speaker 8: Okay.
- 24:52Speaker 2: I make eye contact him and speak and I've been
- 24:54Speaker 2: married for a couple of years now, okay, and never
- 24:56Speaker 2: one time. Now it's a running joke. I've never said
- 24:59Speaker 2: his name. So question one, is that bizarre?
- 25:02Speaker 8: I think you might have some issues.
- 25:03Speaker 5: I think I do too. That is correct, We all do.
- 25:07Speaker 8: So it's okay.
- 25:08Speaker 2: Is there like a text thread of all the really
- 25:12Speaker 2: elite coaches? Do you guys like like Saban's on there?
- 25:18Speaker 2: I'm very close have a family member Patty Gasso's family
- 25:21Speaker 2: to me, she'd run the softball coach at Oklahoma. You
- 25:23Speaker 2: I put you in this category because you guys are
- 25:27Speaker 2: the elite of the elite. So what do you guys
- 25:29Speaker 2: talk about in this text thread that you're going to say?
- 25:30Speaker 5: You don't you don't have?
- 25:31Speaker 8: I mean, that would be worth a lot of money
- 25:33Speaker 8: if we could get that going. There is no text thread,
- 25:37Speaker 8: but if there were, I'd love to be on it.
- 25:38Speaker 8: I'd love to just learn and listen and soak up
- 25:41Speaker 8: all I could, So basically I have to go stock
- 25:43Speaker 8: Saban on Twitter and on YouTube and steal all his
- 25:47Speaker 8: quotes and then repeat it to my team, and I
- 25:50Speaker 8: usually give them credit.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Though our coach is pretty receptive to you going hey,
- 25:52Speaker 2: I'd like to come in and understand the culture of it.
- 25:56Speaker 2: Doesn't matter what program it is, but if you ask,
- 25:57Speaker 2: if you're to reach out to, you going to start
- 25:59Speaker 2: any absolutely.
- 26:01Speaker 8: So I spent a week with Danny Ainge just recently
- 26:05Speaker 8: back in February, and he immediately offered up jazz practices
- 26:09Speaker 8: and meetings. I haven't taken them up on it. I
- 26:12Speaker 8: will in the off season for us. Things like that
- 26:14Speaker 8: happen all the time. Coaches in different sports are open
- 26:17Speaker 8: to letting their gyms or courts whatever be open to
- 26:22Speaker 8: other coaches learning. So, especially in volleyball, I think it's
- 26:25Speaker 8: a good culture of hey, I want to come learn.
- 26:27Speaker 8: Is there a good time and people open up their gyms.
- 26:29Speaker 8: It's incredible and we're open as well. People that I
- 26:32Speaker 8: talk to know if they want to come learn, and
- 26:34Speaker 8: I can help. Mentoring has always been something that's interested
- 26:38Speaker 8: me since a young age. My dad was a coach
- 26:40Speaker 8: and so I've been drawn to mentors older coaches, people
- 26:44Speaker 8: much wiser than me. Has always been an interest and
- 26:47Speaker 8: as I unfortunately get older and the kids stay the
- 26:50Speaker 8: same age at the mentorship for me to be mentors
- 26:52Speaker 8: to my players or other coaches in the community has
- 26:55Speaker 8: been exciting for me.
- 26:57Speaker 2: Has your dad been a big part of mentoring you
- 26:59Speaker 2: or at least introducing you to other people that he.
- 27:01Speaker 8: Absolutely really Yeah, the legend Kathy Gregory at UCSB, A
- 27:06Speaker 8: Carl McGowan who who's here at BYU and his son Chris.
- 27:10Speaker 8: My dad has been an integral part. Karch Karai, who
- 27:12Speaker 8: he coached in high school at Santa Barbara High. Of
- 27:15Speaker 8: all sorts of mentors from all different areas of the
- 27:17Speaker 8: game that have been really influential and what I've done
- 27:20Speaker 8: as a coach and here at BYU.
- 27:22Speaker 2: If you were to get on the court now, because
- 27:24Speaker 2: obviously you were on the US professional team too, but
- 27:27Speaker 2: if you got on and let's say, put on a
- 27:29Speaker 2: wig and you're like, hey, this is our new player, Cindy,
- 27:32Speaker 2: would you dominate today?
- 27:33Speaker 8: No, I hate to lose, so I think I would.
- 27:37Speaker 8: I would hold my own I don't know if I'd dominate,
- 27:39Speaker 8: but I would. I would fire up everyone else on
- 27:41Speaker 8: the court to play better so they wouldn't notice how
- 27:43Speaker 8: bad I was. They would all rise up and I
- 27:46Speaker 8: would just try not to stick out.
- 27:48Speaker 5: What were you like as What were like as a player?
- 27:50Speaker 8: That's feisty?
- 27:51Speaker 5: Were you the goon to go fight the other team?
- 27:53Speaker 8: Like?
- 27:53Speaker 5: What were you?
- 27:54Speaker 8: I'd have to ask my teammates that. But I just
- 27:56Speaker 8: grew up in a competitive family. There's six girls, one boy,
- 28:00Speaker 8: win sister. We always had each other to play with
- 28:02Speaker 8: and to compete with. We grew up playing sand volleyball,
- 28:05Speaker 8: So I love the competition aspect of anything that you're
- 28:07Speaker 8: doing and trying to be the very best you can
- 28:10Speaker 8: while learning as much as you can. So I was feisty.
- 28:13Speaker 8: I was probably I've probably gotten some players faces. I
- 28:17Speaker 8: tried to keep it on our own side, but I
- 28:18Speaker 8: I just wanted our group to be the best we
- 28:20Speaker 8: could be, and whoever you were playing, it really didn't matter.
- 28:23Speaker 8: I love the underdog role, and I think that suits
- 28:26Speaker 8: us at BYU We're I think in general our sporting
- 28:30Speaker 8: teams are underdogs, and for sure our our volleyball team.
- 28:33Speaker 8: I don't know if other people feel that way.
- 28:35Speaker 5: Out of the communities, you guys dominated, So I can't.
- 28:37Speaker 5: I can't.
- 28:38Speaker 2: As you got into underdog, I was like, that's just
- 28:39Speaker 2: not true. You've been in the top, you've been ranked
- 28:41Speaker 2: for like a one hundred million week in a row.
- 28:43Speaker 8: Now we're we're we got this new path that we're
- 28:45Speaker 8: trying to blaze and so we we can. We got
- 28:48Speaker 8: to find our way through the Big twelve as a
- 28:50Speaker 8: you know, a university and no.
- 28:52Speaker 2: Still don't really know it's not convinced, say sorry, but
- 28:56Speaker 2: you have a you have a real culture winning. You
- 28:58Speaker 2: were the first coach to hit the hundred division want
- 29:00Speaker 2: you're it. You're her when it comes to coaching. So
- 29:04Speaker 2: the underdocting doesn't really float anymore.
- 29:06Speaker 5: All right, So how do you do this?
- 29:07Speaker 2: Because it equally is hard to keep a team motivated
- 29:10Speaker 2: that's winning and to continue winning because you can obviously,
- 29:13Speaker 2: as they say, rest on your laurels at times, How
- 29:15Speaker 2: do you keep your girls fired up?
- 29:18Speaker 8: Gosh, that is such a good question. I think it's
- 29:20Speaker 8: that intrinsic motivation that we want to recruit in players.
- 29:24Speaker 8: They come to BAU to be high performing academically, spiritually, athletically, personally, socially.
- 29:29Speaker 8: That's the type of young women that we get in
- 29:31Speaker 8: our program and our staff is as well, So that's
- 29:34Speaker 8: already going to be intrinsically in them, and we, as
- 29:36Speaker 8: you're saying, just need to continue to find areas to
- 29:39Speaker 8: challenge them, for them to be challenged where they can
- 29:42Speaker 8: get better in this this or that or hey, you're
- 29:43Speaker 8: doing really well in this area. Let's keep We want
- 29:46Speaker 8: them to play to their strengths. We don't want them
- 29:48Speaker 8: to always look at what they're not doing well. So,
- 29:51Speaker 8: this is what your strengths are, you know. It's like
- 29:53Speaker 8: all the greatest in any aspect, they know what their
- 29:56Speaker 8: strengths are Lebron Tom Brady, Michael Sortan, and then they
- 29:59Speaker 8: still on their weaknesses on the side, but they're not
- 30:01Speaker 8: obsessed with those because they are who they are because
- 30:04Speaker 8: of their strengths. And that's what we want our team
- 30:06Speaker 8: to recognize and to get excited about those and then
- 30:08Speaker 8: dabble in some of their weaknesses in their spare time.
- 30:11Speaker 2: I have mid knowledge of alleyball. I could say I
- 30:14Speaker 2: know more, okay than somebody average. And it's like they
- 30:17Speaker 2: hit the ball okay, Like I know what Albert is.
- 30:19Speaker 5: Okay, what is that?
- 30:21Speaker 7: It's they wear a different jersey?
- 30:22Speaker 5: Why because they're the one that goes in and digs
- 30:25Speaker 5: it out of the ground.
- 30:26Speaker 2: Okay, and so there is a dig I heard of
- 30:29Speaker 2: that that's not the same, but that's like their job
- 30:31Speaker 2: to play defense kind of.
- 30:32Speaker 8: Yeah, libero and Italian means free, so they're at free beer. Libero, libero, libero,
- 30:37Speaker 8: I say libero. I call them bros because it's a
- 30:39Speaker 8: little tougher, like you're bro, let's go dig some balls.
- 30:42Speaker 5: And so it's their job.
- 30:43Speaker 8: They come in and out of the game freely, and
- 30:45Speaker 8: they don't cost us a substitution, so nobody's they're tracking them.
- 30:49Speaker 8: But you only get fifteen subs, so when someone comes
- 30:51Speaker 8: in and out of the match, you track it as
- 30:53Speaker 8: a sub. They go in and out like just mad women,
- 30:56Speaker 8: just like and nobody counts them. They can just go
- 30:58Speaker 8: in and out as much as they want.
- 31:00Speaker 5: Can they stand wherever they want.
- 31:01Speaker 8: They can't go to the front row, and they can't
- 31:04Speaker 8: jump and spike it.
- 31:05Speaker 5: So does that mean libertos are shorter.
- 31:11Speaker 8: It typically means their expertise is going to be in
- 31:15Speaker 8: passing and defending, and so that leads to smaller players
- 31:20Speaker 8: that are quicker that can read the game just somewhat naturally.
- 31:24Speaker 8: It happens as they progress, as they start to specialize
- 31:27Speaker 8: in positions. But it doesn't mean you can't have a
- 31:29Speaker 8: five nine, five ten, five to eleven libero. And in fact,
- 31:32Speaker 8: if they're long and they have length, we all would
- 31:35Speaker 8: want six foot liberros because you can extend more. Volleyball
- 31:38Speaker 8: is a game that's extended. Whether you set or spike
- 31:40Speaker 8: or you dig, your limbs are being extended. Very rarely
- 31:43Speaker 8: is the ball going to come right to you. It's like, oh,
- 31:45Speaker 8: here it is, You've got to play extended. So we
- 31:47Speaker 8: would like them to be taller, but the taller players
- 31:50Speaker 8: end up going into hitting or setting or blocking, and
- 31:54Speaker 8: you end up getting smaller liberros.
- 31:55Speaker 5: What's the position that's the real bulldog, the libero? Yeah,
- 31:58Speaker 5: for sure, it seems like it.
- 31:59Speaker 8: They're they're feisty, they have to be loud, they have
- 32:01Speaker 8: to communicate well. They're usually the key cornerstone to your
- 32:07Speaker 8: defense and your passing, and that can really set up
- 32:10Speaker 8: your defense as far as hey, we're going to serve
- 32:13Speaker 8: and we're going to defend behind you, and our block
- 32:14Speaker 8: is going to be up there. I think setters are
- 32:17Speaker 8: also some bulldogs. They're like the quarterback. You know football.
- 32:20Speaker 5: I do know football and I know volleyball a little bit.
- 32:22Speaker 8: So when you say, so, what position would you be?
- 32:26Speaker 5: I would probably I'd be the killer, the killer outside.
- 32:31Speaker 5: You can't jump.
- 32:31Speaker 7: You can't have like one hundred kills a game. I
- 32:34Speaker 7: just love that they call it kills.
- 32:35Speaker 5: You can't jump, Sure, I can, I can jump. How
- 32:39Speaker 5: tall is that net?
- 32:41Speaker 8: Seven four?
- 32:42Speaker 7: I can't?
- 32:43Speaker 8: Yeah, but I'm sorry the men's net is even higher.
- 32:46Speaker 8: But yeah, we just we are here, that's right, women's volleyball,
- 32:52Speaker 8: women's How do.
- 32:53Speaker 5: You market this team?
- 32:57Speaker 2: And now would imagine every team is different to just
- 33:00Speaker 2: the student body into the community to come and watch
- 33:03Speaker 2: and support.
- 33:04Speaker 8: Cougar Nation is unbelievable. I mean we've had back to
- 33:07Speaker 8: back over three thousand. You know, we're playing these back
- 33:09Speaker 8: to back matches right now. A couple of times where
- 33:13Speaker 8: I think just our our players, the excitement, the way
- 33:16Speaker 8: that they play the game. You know, winning always breeds
- 33:19Speaker 8: interest in the community coming out. But our women are
- 33:23Speaker 8: just people of caliber that will go out and interact
- 33:27Speaker 8: with the players, with the young young girls, with whatever
- 33:29Speaker 8: people interested in volleyball. And I think BYU does a
- 33:32Speaker 8: great job just getting get people excited about what By's
- 33:36Speaker 8: doing heading into the Big twelve and the opportunities we
- 33:38Speaker 8: have to be We're already in the nation, you know,
- 33:42Speaker 8: on bau TV was great, but now we're on ESPN
- 33:44Speaker 8: Plus and we're getting out there with football and I
- 33:46Speaker 8: think it's good. So I think volleyball is an exciting sport.
- 33:49Speaker 8: I don't know if you saw one of the most
- 33:50Speaker 8: recent volleyball games on Sunday, had like one point six
- 33:53Speaker 8: million people watching it, you know, between Nebraska and Minnesota,
- 33:55Speaker 8: and that's legit.
- 33:57Speaker 5: Yeah, the Nebraska the football stadium with even that was unreal.
- 34:00Speaker 8: And I watched that tooty two thousand plus.
- 34:02Speaker 2: So cool, and it's cool for them, but it's also
- 34:04Speaker 2: cool for the sport absolutely, because one that was one
- 34:08Speaker 2: of the head stories just period of all sports a day.
- 34:10Speaker 2: It's like, look at uh, you know in Lincoln, Nebraska.
- 34:12Speaker 2: They're showing up for the volleyball team, which they do anyway.
- 34:14Speaker 2: They've a you know, they're very passionate about the team,
- 34:17Speaker 2: and they did the walk. It was just anytime you
- 34:19Speaker 2: can get anything in front of a bunch of eyeballs, yep,
- 34:22Speaker 2: like that's a win. And so and I had a
- 34:24Speaker 2: buddy who played the show afterward, like the music part
- 34:27Speaker 2: of it. Any when you do big events here, like
- 34:30Speaker 2: what what's the goal here? You get to do something special?
- 34:32Speaker 2: Do you play only here where you get out and
- 34:35Speaker 2: you know on top of the mountain.
- 34:37Speaker 7: Oh, that'd be good.
- 34:37Speaker 8: Yeah, Well we I hope in the snow ennis choose.
- 34:42Speaker 5: And tennis racket choose though that they walk up in.
- 34:46Speaker 1: You know.
- 34:46Speaker 8: I think that's a good question. I think my players
- 34:49Speaker 8: asked after they saw the football, and I think basketball
- 34:52Speaker 8: did an exhibition too after that, iowa, maybe if we're
- 34:55Speaker 8: going to play in the Marriott Center where men's basketball.
- 34:58Speaker 5: We were like, no, we like guys.
- 35:00Speaker 8: We just love the coziness of the Smithfield House, and
- 35:02Speaker 8: we love the fans filling it up. And I think
- 35:04Speaker 8: the bigger you get if you could guarantee me that
- 35:07Speaker 8: we could fill it up. Sure, And it's not that
- 35:09Speaker 8: I'm afraid of that, it's just the Smithfield House brings
- 35:11Speaker 8: such a special, unique feeling to the community and to
- 35:14Speaker 8: our team. I told them no, but I think they
- 35:17Speaker 8: got mad because I think they think I didn't have
- 35:18Speaker 8: belief that we could fill it up, and I think
- 35:20Speaker 8: we could.
- 35:20Speaker 5: Isn't the Smithfield That's pretty big though.
- 35:23Speaker 8: It's five thousand plus.
- 35:24Speaker 7: Isn't that that's pretty big?
- 35:25Speaker 5: I isn't that for a volleyball deva?
- 35:28Speaker 8: What if we could get ten?
- 35:29Speaker 1: No?
- 35:29Speaker 5: No, no, I hear you, Yeah no, I was just
- 35:31Speaker 5: looking at pictures of it. It looks bigger than other
- 35:35Speaker 5: schools that I've seen. They're volume.
- 35:37Speaker 8: It just depends on where you're looking. The Midwest has
- 35:39Speaker 8: got great crowds going right now. So just volleyball is
- 35:42Speaker 8: growing as a sport. It's it's popular, and we're getting
- 35:44Speaker 8: some professional leagues, a couple popping up, which is important
- 35:48Speaker 8: in case. Yeah, we're getting we have athletes in limited
- 35:51Speaker 8: and we have some other professional organizations. I think they'll
- 35:55Speaker 8: be two and twenty four, which is huge for our
- 35:57Speaker 8: players to know they can finish their careers and they
- 35:59Speaker 8: can stay in states. I don't have to go overseas
- 36:01Speaker 8: to go play.
- 36:01Speaker 2: I had friends that as soon as they finished playing,
- 36:04Speaker 2: they had to go to every European country. Yeah, European countries.
- 36:07Speaker 2: I don't even know what existed? Was that volleyball bluelighty not?
- 36:10Speaker 5: Yeah, so you do know volleyball? Yeah, little bit?
- 36:12Speaker 8: Yeah, I'm not I thought you were switching sports on me.
- 36:15Speaker 5: But I yea, yeah, I'm kind of an idiot, but
- 36:18Speaker 5: I I like that we have we have a.
- 36:20Speaker 8: Couple of players playing. Heather Nighting's playing in Turkey, Alexa
- 36:24Speaker 8: Gray's playing in Turkey. Ronnie Jones Perry is playing in Brazil,
- 36:28Speaker 8: so we have some BAU players playing for him.
- 36:30Speaker 5: When you finished, did you play overseas?
- 36:31Speaker 8: I played in Croatia? I loved it?
- 36:33Speaker 5: What was that like?
- 36:34Speaker 8: Amazing? No? It was it was amazing. I lived in Rieka,
- 36:38Speaker 8: which is on the coast. It's and I'm a beach
- 36:40Speaker 8: girl from Santa Barbara, so I'm drawn to the beach
- 36:43Speaker 8: and just outdoor.
- 36:45Speaker 5: Uh.
- 36:46Speaker 8: And that's why I love Utah. So Croatia was amazing.
- 36:48Speaker 8: I've been back many times.
- 36:49Speaker 5: I love it. I thought she was gonna say that
- 36:51Speaker 5: why I love you, and then she said, are you Croatian? Really? No,
- 36:54Speaker 5: I just thought she could join the interviews, like, that's
- 36:56Speaker 5: why I love you?
- 36:56Speaker 7: I ta, did you start playing beach volleyball?
- 37:00Speaker 8: I grew up on yeah, playing sand. My dad took
- 37:02Speaker 8: us to the beaches and we played on East Beach
- 37:04Speaker 8: where all great legends that grew up. And that's my
- 37:07Speaker 8: first love is sand. And had to play indoor, and
- 37:12Speaker 8: but I love indoor.
- 37:13Speaker 5: What was the transition from sand to court.
- 37:15Speaker 8: Well, it wasn't really a transition. You grew up playing both,
- 37:17Speaker 8: so it never felt like a transition. But I like
- 37:19Speaker 8: sand because I like to be in control of the
- 37:22Speaker 8: game and it's two people and you get to touch
- 37:24Speaker 8: the ball way more so I love just owning it
- 37:27Speaker 8: and being able to just really develop all your skills passing, setting, hitting.
- 37:33Speaker 8: And then you get on a court of six and
- 37:35Speaker 8: the ball like hard that comes to you. You're like
- 37:36Speaker 8: and then you're a libero and nobody serves you. So
- 37:38Speaker 8: it's the point of the libarro. They avoid the libarro.
- 37:41Speaker 8: So next time you watch a game, so how many
- 37:42Speaker 8: times the libero actually passes the ball, It's like, what
- 37:45Speaker 8: are we doing? They're not even serving them.
- 37:47Speaker 5: What would you credit as the key to your winning culture?
- 37:50Speaker 5: You're a specific Yeah, are players one hundred percent?
- 37:52Speaker 2: Yeah, but you're giving. But the players aren't playing. They
- 37:55Speaker 2: are no, no, no, you let you out me finish.
- 37:57Speaker 2: The players aren't playing until one you decide they can play.
- 38:02Speaker 2: And that's based on a couple of things. Their abilities,
- 38:05Speaker 2: how hard they work, their attitudes, and that's instilled to
- 38:08Speaker 2: them by you. Yeah, so what is it fundamentally what's
- 38:12Speaker 2: important to you? And you would credit just the winning too.
- 38:16Speaker 8: Yeah, I think you know, you got to have the horses.
- 38:18Speaker 8: And so we like to identify players that can come
- 38:21Speaker 8: play at a high level, that are high performing. So
- 38:23Speaker 8: we want them to be high performing individuals mentally, physically, emotionally.
- 38:27Speaker 8: What do you want to accomplish because this is not
- 38:29Speaker 8: easy to play Division one volleyball anywhere in the country,
- 38:33Speaker 8: let alone at BYU where the expectations are high, the
- 38:36Speaker 8: standards are high. We have standards that we believe you
- 38:40Speaker 8: should show up every day with them. We're going to
- 38:41Speaker 8: hold you to them. So I think holding people to
- 38:43Speaker 8: those standards, showing them the blueprint, this is what we
- 38:46Speaker 8: can accomplish. And I mean my brother hired me in
- 38:48Speaker 8: two thousand and eleven. He was the head coach. He's
- 38:50Speaker 8: now the men's head coach. Yeah, your brother was yeah, yeah,
- 38:54Speaker 8: he hired me here in twenty eleven and then he
- 38:58Speaker 8: became the men's head coach and twoy and fifteen and
- 39:00Speaker 8: I became the women's head coach. But I believed in
- 39:02Speaker 8: the vision of the players and athletes that we were
- 39:05Speaker 8: getting and being able to win a national championship. And
- 39:07Speaker 8: in three years twenty fourteen, we got to the finals
- 39:10Speaker 8: and we played in the national championships and lost. And
- 39:12Speaker 8: then four years later in eighteen, we went to another
- 39:14Speaker 8: final four. So we're due for another final four. So
- 39:16Speaker 8: that's what we're working towards. But I think you know,
- 39:19Speaker 8: the players, my staff, the administration, everyone working towards, you know,
- 39:23Speaker 8: just being the best you can be, whether that national
- 39:25Speaker 8: championship comes or not. We're excited about the journey of
- 39:28Speaker 8: becoming and what our young women could become through hardships, adversities,
- 39:33Speaker 8: highs and lows, winning, losing. It's about what are they
- 39:36Speaker 8: going to become after this and are they going to
- 39:38Speaker 8: be CEOs, business owners, mothers? You know, what are you
- 39:42Speaker 8: going to do with your life? And how can we
- 39:43Speaker 8: help you be really good at that? And oh, by
- 39:46Speaker 8: the way, let's get really good at volleyball while you're here.
- 39:48Speaker 8: And they've been able to do that.
- 39:50Speaker 5: How tall are you?
- 39:51Speaker 8: Five nine?
- 39:51Speaker 5: How tall is your brother? He's six to one, so
- 39:55Speaker 5: years aren't huge.
- 39:56Speaker 8: No, he was a libero here. He won two national
- 39:58Speaker 8: championships with BYU.
- 40:00Speaker 5: But why are you the better coach?
- 40:02Speaker 8: Oh? No, he's really good.
- 40:03Speaker 2: I've been looking at some stuff we know you coach. Yeah,
- 40:05Speaker 2: we've been looking at young one hundred wins quicker than anybody. Yeah,
- 40:09Speaker 2: pull one over on us.
- 40:10Speaker 5: Yeah it was.
- 40:11Speaker 8: It was two hundred. So you keep miss missaying No.
- 40:14Speaker 5: I stopped reading notes, Okay, I quit.
- 40:17Speaker 8: I'm just kidding you. He you went to the finals
- 40:19Speaker 8: and fourteen and I haven't got there yet, so you know,
- 40:22Speaker 8: and he's got a couple of national championships, so he's
- 40:24Speaker 8: he's for sure the better coach, better athlete.
- 40:27Speaker 5: Yeah, debatable. So you ever been hitting the face hard? Yeah?
- 40:31Speaker 2: Many times, so hard the nose where your eyes are
- 40:34Speaker 2: all watery? And do you check yourself out or is
- 40:37Speaker 2: that embarrassing? Like because listen, if I got hit and
- 40:40Speaker 2: I was playing ball, even even baseball, I got hit,
- 40:43Speaker 2: I was like nothing, I'm gonna walk first, but it's
- 40:45Speaker 2: out of be like.
- 40:45Speaker 5: Oh, please get me out of here.
- 40:46Speaker 7: Do you act like nothing happened?
- 40:47Speaker 5: I would be like that didn't hurt?
- 40:49Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean it's it hurts if you take it
- 40:51Speaker 8: off the nose directly, it's your eyes You're not gonna
- 40:53Speaker 8: be able to see because it just just your whole
- 40:55Speaker 8: face feels swollen and hurts. If it's off the side,
- 40:58Speaker 8: you can manage it much better like them. Good does
- 41:00Speaker 8: it black your eyes the nose, Yeah, you get a
- 41:03Speaker 8: little bit just you can't see because your eyes are
- 41:05Speaker 8: watering because it hurts. But if it gets you somewhere else,
- 41:07Speaker 8: you can usually move on from that. But uh, you know,
- 41:10Speaker 8: we're a lot more aware of the what it does
- 41:13Speaker 8: to you to get hit in the face. Point blank.
- 41:15Speaker 8: It's it's it hurts, and our players can hit pretty hard,
- 41:18Speaker 8: so you know, we try to we try to make
- 41:21Speaker 8: sure everyone's okay.
- 41:23Speaker 5: I wouldn't like that, and we.
- 41:24Speaker 8: Actually don't like that. Yeah, we we we want our
- 41:26Speaker 8: players to we treat we train them to apologize to
- 41:28Speaker 8: our opponents. I think it's you know, it's something that
- 41:31Speaker 8: when you're younger, maybe you think is cool if you
- 41:33Speaker 8: six pack someone, But as you get older and you
- 41:35Speaker 8: watch the professional leagues, they'll they'll put their hand up
- 41:37Speaker 8: and say sorry, right a ray away from the crossing it.
- 41:39Speaker 8: And I think that's something that we could bring to
- 41:41Speaker 8: our level. You know, in college, the respect and knowing
- 41:44Speaker 8: that no one's trying to intentionally hurt anybody, but you
- 41:47Speaker 8: know that that that doesn't feel good.
- 41:49Speaker 5: But let's say your mouth in a little bit, I'd
- 41:51Speaker 5: be like, sorry, stuffing.
- 41:52Speaker 8: It's hard to aim, like there's a lot of things happening,
- 41:56Speaker 8: the balls moving from someone's passing platform to a set
- 42:00Speaker 8: to the air when you're jumping. So to think that
- 42:02Speaker 8: you can aim at someone, maybe you're really good.
- 42:05Speaker 5: But I was you're that good.
- 42:08Speaker 8: It's just usually doesn't happen that way.
- 42:10Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 42:10Speaker 2: No, I'm gonna lead athlete whenever, and I don't know
- 42:14Speaker 2: the name of it and do it like one person
- 42:16Speaker 2: jumps and they fake it.
- 42:19Speaker 5: Yeah, the third person is that like a play.
- 42:22Speaker 8: Or that's a great question. I like your questions because
- 42:25Speaker 8: they're there. I don't ever think of them because they're
- 42:27Speaker 8: so basic.
- 42:28Speaker 6: Oh boy, oh boy, that's not all they're like super good.
- 42:33Speaker 6: What's the word elementary?
- 42:34Speaker 5: Yea, so good. That's volleyball for dumbies. And I'm asking
- 42:37Speaker 5: the questions. Okay, go ahead.
- 42:38Speaker 8: No, I actually like that because our setter does call plays.
- 42:41Speaker 8: You'll see them hold their jersey and they call a
- 42:43Speaker 8: play with their hands, and so if the gym's loud,
- 42:45Speaker 8: it's like football, we have hand signals, and you don't
- 42:47Speaker 8: want the other team to know what you're running. And
- 42:49Speaker 8: so we have set plays and the players know what set,
- 42:53Speaker 8: what they're gonna play, run, and so everyone has to
- 42:55Speaker 8: jump as if they're getting set. And then that way
- 42:58Speaker 8: you hold the blockers on the opponent team. Does that
- 43:00Speaker 8: make sense because they if you didn't approach and act
- 43:03Speaker 8: like you were, then they would the blockers would move
- 43:05Speaker 8: to where the person was actually getting set. So everybody
- 43:07Speaker 8: has to jump and fake it. But now it's like,
- 43:09Speaker 8: I'm like getting better ideas with like what you guys
- 43:12Speaker 8: are giving me some coaching ideas, Yeah, how to.
- 43:14Speaker 2: Throw off defenses well, and so if they got to
- 43:18Speaker 2: fake it, but it's only meant for that one, but they.
- 43:21Speaker 8: Don't know that they're not getting set. Everyone thinks they're
- 43:23Speaker 8: getting the ball. Everyone expects to get the ball. She
- 43:26Speaker 8: doesn't show on your seat, she doesn't show. She shows
- 43:29Speaker 8: everyone what they're going to hit, but she doesn't tell
- 43:31Speaker 8: them who she's gonna set. So everyone thinks they're getting
- 43:34Speaker 8: the ball. So everyone's on high alert. And then once
- 43:37Speaker 8: she reads the other team and what's going on and
- 43:39Speaker 8: gets a feel for our pass. For instance, if we
- 43:42Speaker 8: pass it way off the net, it's only going to
- 43:44Speaker 8: go to one person because you can't set someone in
- 43:46Speaker 8: the middle of the court. It needs to be a
- 43:48Speaker 8: really good pass. Does that make sense?
- 43:50Speaker 5: It does make sense.
- 43:50Speaker 2: It makes me think though, that if I were an
- 43:52Speaker 2: NFL wide receiver and this happens a little bit now
- 43:54Speaker 2: and they're.
- 43:54Speaker 3: Like, give me the ball.
- 43:55Speaker 5: I need the ball. Does that ever happen? Where?
- 43:56Speaker 1: Oh?
- 43:57Speaker 3: Yeah, all the time?
- 43:57Speaker 5: Like why am I not getting the ball all the time?
- 43:59Speaker 5: And then how do you manage that? Yeah?
- 44:01Speaker 8: You talk about game plans and what we're trying to do.
- 44:05Speaker 8: Are we wanting to overload, are we wanting to exploit
- 44:08Speaker 8: a certain blocker. We want to look at our matchups like, hey,
- 44:10Speaker 8: we want to feed this person because of this matchup.
- 44:13Speaker 8: I mean, there are matchups with the other teams, and
- 44:15Speaker 8: so you talk to your team about what we're trying
- 44:17Speaker 8: to do. And then it comes down usually to your
- 44:20Speaker 8: ball control. Where how good are you handling the ball,
- 44:23Speaker 8: passing defense. If your ball control is really good, you're
- 44:25Speaker 8: going to have a lot of options.
- 44:27Speaker 5: All right, Final four questions four four? Okay, that's a
- 44:31Speaker 5: random number.
- 44:31Speaker 2: We paid just four, and we just commit to it.
- 44:34Speaker 2: If you deflate a volleyball a little bit, or you
- 44:36Speaker 2: inflate volleyball a little bit.
- 44:39Speaker 5: Does that help? Are their rules to stop an advantage? Yeah,
- 44:43Speaker 5: you're good hitting it.
- 44:44Speaker 8: Though, right, yes, good question. The refs, I don't know what.
- 44:50Speaker 8: The refs check the pressure before every match, so so yeah,
- 44:53Speaker 8: the PSI, the refs have a little pump and they
- 44:55Speaker 8: check it. So you have to play it illegal. It's
- 44:57Speaker 8: on the ball what illegal is. But we do go
- 45:00Speaker 8: to schools. We'll practice a day before and all their
- 45:05Speaker 8: balls are flat. It's wild. We're like, are you really
- 45:08Speaker 8: practicing with flat balls? So we bring around pump me,
- 45:10Speaker 8: pump them up. So the next day their balls are
- 45:12Speaker 8: over pumped.
- 45:14Speaker 5: Got them.
- 45:14Speaker 2: What's the advantage if you both get to use the
- 45:16Speaker 2: same ball or do you change balls based on whose
- 45:20Speaker 2: serve it is?
- 45:24Speaker 8: I think there's some advantage.
- 45:25Speaker 2: You looked at question basic of all the questions, because
- 45:30Speaker 2: again with different sports, there is so you know.
- 45:34Speaker 8: There's a lot about altitude sea level. We don't talk
- 45:38Speaker 8: about that. We just serve the ball, figure out how
- 45:40Speaker 8: to get it to float in the court. But we're
- 45:41Speaker 8: not going to spend too much time with you're at
- 45:43Speaker 8: sea level, you're at altitude, the balls flatter, it's deflated, like,
- 45:48Speaker 8: just figure it out get a feel for it. But
- 45:50Speaker 8: we like when we train for the balls to be
- 45:53Speaker 8: at the PSI that they're supposed to because that's what
- 45:54Speaker 8: you're going to play at in a game. So there's
- 45:56Speaker 8: really no reason that you're going to play I don't
- 45:58Speaker 8: know why teams like to play with flat balls. Like,
- 46:01Speaker 8: that's a good question.
- 46:03Speaker 5: It hurts your ar, it hurts your artic I mean,
- 46:06Speaker 5: like the idiot, I got a good question.
- 46:07Speaker 8: Yeah, that's a good question. It's a very good question, coach.
- 46:11Speaker 6: So let's talk about travel. So when I travel with
- 46:14Speaker 6: my wife, I have to tell her all the time
- 46:16Speaker 6: we're going for one day. We don't need five pairs
- 46:18Speaker 6: of shoes, Like, we don't need what's the travel like
- 46:21Speaker 6: with the girls, Like is it you have to be
- 46:22Speaker 6: like guys, guys, No, you don't need extra bags, like
- 46:25Speaker 6: we don't have enough room.
- 46:26Speaker 5: In the bus.
- 46:26Speaker 8: No, they are so good with travel. They literally bring
- 46:29Speaker 8: the exact amount of practice sweats, matches, like you see,
- 46:34Speaker 8: no extra packing they because they have to carry their bags.
- 46:37Speaker 7: Oh that's exat I should make my wife do that.
- 46:39Speaker 8: It's a good idea.
- 46:41Speaker 2: Dudes on the football team do the same thing. Like,
- 46:42Speaker 2: you don't have to being nineteen pair of organs. Yeah,
- 46:44Speaker 2: you know, I think it's just college kids more than anything.
- 46:46Speaker 8: Okay, yeah, no, you you don't see that. With our team,
- 46:49Speaker 8: they pack their school books in their bags and so
- 46:51Speaker 8: they get a little heavy too, and so they're pretty
- 46:54Speaker 8: good at packing. We haven't had any problems with that.
- 46:56Speaker 8: I mean sometimes they maybe forget something that's on the
- 47:01Speaker 8: opposite end.
- 47:01Speaker 5: You have everything, no exactly, so go home.
- 47:06Speaker 8: It's the problem.
- 47:07Speaker 5: Well, that's your fault.
- 47:08Speaker 8: Yeah, we usually have to go buy it. And the
- 47:10Speaker 8: jerseys is the biggest thing. We have some extra jerseys.
- 47:12Speaker 8: You have blood jersey in case someone gets blood, so
- 47:14Speaker 8: you have those. But we try to double check our packing.
- 47:16Speaker 8: But no, we do not have an over packing issue
- 47:19Speaker 8: with our team. I think it's just the basic what
- 47:22Speaker 8: do you need to practice match sweats, get comfy and
- 47:26Speaker 8: travel to and from and they look good. They got
- 47:29Speaker 8: some swag, they look good.
- 47:31Speaker 5: Final two questions. I say that every time, just so
- 47:33Speaker 5: you know where we are.
- 47:34Speaker 2: Well. Also, we're a big fan of your head of
- 47:37Speaker 2: communications here, and he keeps looking at his.
- 47:38Speaker 5: Phone, so I feel like he's like, you got to go. Yeah,
- 47:41Speaker 5: that's what we feel like.
- 47:42Speaker 8: No, he's off the whole day for you know, he
- 47:44Speaker 8: manages the whole shit. Yeah, I thought you were coming
- 47:46Speaker 8: to practice.
- 47:46Speaker 5: We are, we are, we're going where Unless you're planning
- 47:49Speaker 5: on hitting at us and we're not.
- 47:51Speaker 8: We could get you out there.
- 47:52Speaker 5: You're not going to six pack us? Are you? Coach?
- 47:55Speaker 5: Is that what it's called?
- 47:56Speaker 7: That's what she said?
- 47:56Speaker 2: What is that?
- 47:57Speaker 5: Why would be a six pack? If it's one in
- 47:59Speaker 5: the face?
- 47:59Speaker 8: Actually, good question, like if you'd hit another basic question.
- 48:02Speaker 8: See it's so educational.
- 48:04Speaker 5: That's a real quick.
- 48:07Speaker 8: It's a good question.
- 48:08Speaker 5: You're not an answer.
- 48:09Speaker 8: I'm gonna have to google it.
- 48:10Speaker 5: Oh you don't know, so you just say it without
- 48:13Speaker 5: That's why I said it's a good question. All right,
- 48:15Speaker 5: I'm googling right here on this. That's do you know
- 48:18Speaker 5: what it is?
- 48:19Speaker 4: Because there's six panels like on the.
- 48:23Speaker 8: You're making you're making me look silly.
- 48:24Speaker 5: Now, so I don't know, let's say six making.
- 48:29Speaker 8: Maybe I made it. Maybe maybe I made it up.
- 48:31Speaker 8: Maybe it's maybe it's because people took it off their
- 48:34Speaker 8: six pack on their stomach and.
- 48:36Speaker 2: It's like I thought, I was like, don't hit me
- 48:38Speaker 2: my six pack? Okay, six pack in volleyball? What's the
- 48:42Speaker 2: defensive player goes up for an attack block and gets
- 48:44Speaker 2: a six pack smashed into her face and she can't
- 48:47Speaker 2: make a clean block.
- 48:48Speaker 5: Okay, we already knew that, But what's the root of it?
- 48:52Speaker 3: I need like the Latin order six.
- 48:55Speaker 5: Okay, examples on how I'm and I've lost interest of
- 49:01Speaker 5: what I meant. But okay, so here we are. What's
- 49:04Speaker 5: the goal macro micro micro this season, macro next five years? Yeah?
- 49:08Speaker 8: I think always to become the best we can be.
- 49:10Speaker 8: How good can this group be? We have seven matches left.
- 49:13Speaker 8: How good can we be that we know of? And
- 49:15Speaker 8: then we get to play in the postseason. Let's see
- 49:17Speaker 8: how good this group can be. With the seniors that
- 49:20Speaker 8: are never going to play again, we try to pump
- 49:22Speaker 8: them up, motivate them that way. We have some fifth years,
- 49:24Speaker 8: we have some COVID kids that are having opportunities to
- 49:26Speaker 8: play longer. I'm motivating them by let's see how good
- 49:29Speaker 8: we can become. Let's see if we can win, you know, championships.
- 49:33Speaker 8: What does that look like, conference national? What does that
- 49:35Speaker 8: look like in the journey to become that? I think
- 49:38Speaker 8: long term, you know, we want to get Bay's first
- 49:40Speaker 8: women's national championship. We're still searching for a women head
- 49:44Speaker 8: coach to win it. I think it's going to happen
- 49:45Speaker 8: in the next five years for sure. If it's no
- 49:48Speaker 8: women coaches won a national championship, and if it's there's
- 49:51Speaker 8: so many great women coaches out there, like of course,
- 49:54Speaker 8: we want to. We want to be one of the
- 49:55Speaker 8: schools in contention. I could name five right now that
- 49:57Speaker 8: are in contention, you know, with women coaches, and it's
- 50:00Speaker 8: going to happen in the next five years. So that's important.
- 50:03Speaker 8: I think it's important to see women coaching and for
- 50:06Speaker 8: our women to see women in the sport that they
- 50:08Speaker 8: can get into coaching if they want that, they can
- 50:10Speaker 8: you know, be great role models for other players if
- 50:13Speaker 8: you love the sport and you want to continue in it.
- 50:15Speaker 8: So just continuing to bring in the best young women
- 50:19Speaker 8: here to go off into the world and contribute to
- 50:22Speaker 8: society and be great examples of of b y U
- 50:25Speaker 8: and what what it can do for for people.
- 50:27Speaker 2: Who's the best volleyball player ever, women's women's That's a
- 50:30Speaker 2: good question, Michael Jordan of Volleyball.
- 50:32Speaker 5: Women's volleyball.
- 50:33Speaker 8: That is a good question because I'm very fond of carts. No,
- 50:40Speaker 8: I didn't accomplish very much. Oh gosh, that's a good question.
- 50:44Speaker 8: You know, there's some there's some great Olympians. I'd say
- 50:46Speaker 8: Logan Tom is one of the absolute greatest women players.
- 50:49Speaker 8: And now Jordan Larson, she's still playing with our national team.
- 50:53Speaker 8: She won helped Karts Cry and his staff win a
- 50:55Speaker 8: gold medal in UH just recently, and she's going to
- 50:58Speaker 8: play in Paris in twenty four So Jordan Larson look
- 51:01Speaker 8: her up and Logan Tom really good.
- 51:02Speaker 5: And I'm gonna look up six pack later. Yeah, and
- 51:06Speaker 5: you're gonna let me know and know the name of that.
- 51:07Speaker 7: We're gonna figure out.
- 51:08Speaker 5: And if you guys, where do they play the national Championship?
- 51:11Speaker 8: Is it a tournament in Florida?
- 51:12Speaker 5: Okay? If you guys do with the national in December,
- 51:14Speaker 5: we will be there there.
- 51:14Speaker 7: We'll be there, promise.
- 51:16Speaker 5: I love it. Yeah, because if.
- 51:18Speaker 8: Is it just for clicks, like for your own benefit?
- 51:20Speaker 5: No, And let me say this, no, it is not.
- 51:22Speaker 2: We have First of all, we've not We've done this
- 51:25Speaker 2: show for like eleven different UH Division one school nice,
- 51:30Speaker 2: We've only done football.
- 51:31Speaker 5: Okay, we have like five or six million views.
- 51:35Speaker 2: It's slowly becoming something that we didn't really expect it
- 51:38Speaker 2: to be cool because I just wanted to go and
- 51:40Speaker 2: talk to people that have and uh maintained great cultures,
- 51:43Speaker 2: winning folkus. And this is the first women's program that
- 51:47Speaker 2: we've done. This first all or a program we've done,
- 51:49Speaker 2: we've done We've only done football.
- 51:51Speaker 5: Wow. So it's not for clicks. But why are you.
- 51:53Speaker 8: Branching into volleyball women's volleyball.
- 51:54Speaker 5: Because of who you are on a loach? Because we
- 51:58Speaker 5: look for people that and this is not a joke.
- 52:00Speaker 5: I've been joking. I'm the guy. But we look for
- 52:03Speaker 5: people that.
- 52:05Speaker 2: Do it the right way but also do it the
- 52:08Speaker 2: right way, like they win while doing it the right way.
- 52:11Speaker 2: And there's only a few. There's only a few that
- 52:13Speaker 2: we feel very passionate about talking with. We feel like
- 52:15Speaker 2: if we didn't have microphones, we could learn a lot
- 52:17Speaker 2: from and so and that is pretty universal. And you're
- 52:22Speaker 2: respect it like that, you know, amongst a lot of
- 52:24Speaker 2: the other coaches that I thought you weren't a text
- 52:26Speaker 2: thread with which you weren't, And so that question might
- 52:29Speaker 2: be though, yeah, I know, I think it's like fight club.
- 52:31Speaker 5: If you're on texted, you don't talk about Snapchat?
- 52:34Speaker 8: Can you imagine that way?
- 52:35Speaker 5: Can you imagine like Sabans on Snapchat? How do I
- 52:39Speaker 5: it's just like his elbow?
- 52:40Speaker 7: How do I get this to go funny?
- 52:42Speaker 5: Thank you very much, congratulations, thank you everything. We the
- 52:46Speaker 5: blue is sick.
- 52:48Speaker 7: He's been talking about the blues.
- 52:49Speaker 5: I can't believe it.
- 52:50Speaker 8: Just the color blue.
- 52:51Speaker 7: Well, the deal is he's color blind. Yeah, so color
- 52:55Speaker 7: you can see, but no red and red.
- 52:57Speaker 5: But the blue is a great blue. Like if I went,
- 53:00Speaker 5: we're talking to a coach, I won't say who, and
- 53:01Speaker 5: he was like, I hate the color. He has to
- 53:04Speaker 5: coach and that will be terrible. That would be hard
- 53:07Speaker 5: to wear it all the time.
- 53:08Speaker 8: It would be hard.
- 53:08Speaker 5: They hate the color.
- 53:10Speaker 2: I'm a massive Arkansas razor bag fan. I'm a donor,
- 53:13Speaker 2: I'm you know, I'm a doctor.
- 53:15Speaker 7: He's a doctor of letters.
- 53:17Speaker 5: He waits out, but I say my breath.
- 53:21Speaker 6: Uh.
- 53:21Speaker 5: But they pretty good, you know they are? They are.
- 53:23Speaker 8: They're very good. And the head coach is a former
- 53:26Speaker 8: b YU guy, Jason Watson, so you might need to
- 53:29Speaker 8: visit them. And his culture is amazing.
- 53:31Speaker 2: I will say, you're my team volleyball like it. And
- 53:33Speaker 2: if you go and play Arkansas be like they were.
- 53:36Speaker 8: You there, we were like neck and neck top ten
- 53:39Speaker 8: and I think they're still up there. They just beat
- 53:41Speaker 8: Florida and three to oh, so they're they're cruising. I
- 53:45Speaker 8: saw the want to check them in the instead of
- 53:46Speaker 8: Black Tournament. They're gonna get make some ways.
- 53:48Speaker 5: I don't give a crap about them. But here's the thing.
- 53:50Speaker 2: If you're there, we're there, all right, all right, coach
- 53:51Speaker 2: that we really we respect what you've done so much.
- 53:54Speaker 2: Thanks awesome, and we're gonna go and bit get six
- 53:57Speaker 2: packed a bunch in a minute.
- 53:58Speaker 5: Yeah that's gonna be pretty cool.
- 53:59Speaker 8: Yeah, thanks for We appreciate it.
- 54:00Speaker 5: Thanks coach.
- 54:01Speaker 7: Thank you, Heather, No, not Heather, Oh what do you mean, coach, coach? Coach,
- 54:05Speaker 7: thank you coach Heather No, god, dang it.
- 54:07Speaker 5: All right, all right, that's it.
- 54:12Speaker 3: Thank you guys.
