Mexican Cartel Chaos, SCOTUS Tariff Decision & Olympic Gold · The 47 Morning Update with Ben Ferguson

• 0:01
  Speaker 1: Welcome.
• 0:01
Speaker 2: It is Verdict with center, Ted Cruz, Ben Ferguson with
• 0:04
Speaker 2: you as well, Center, and we totally change places. You're
• 0:07
Speaker 2: in Houston, That's where I usually am. I'm in DC
• 0:09
Speaker 2: where you usually are, and this is where we are today,
• 0:12
Speaker 2: getting ready to ahead of the State of the Union.
• 0:14
  Speaker 2: It's going to be a fun show. We've got a
• 0:16
Speaker 2: lot to talk about in including a killing of a
• 0:19
Speaker 2: cartel leader in Mexico.
• 0:21
Speaker 3: Well, violence is broken out in Mexico. Chaos is unfolding
• 0:24
Speaker 3: right now. You and I are recording this on Sunday
• 0:27
Speaker 3: afternoon as well as we're recording it. A major Mexican
• 0:30
Speaker 3: cartel leader was taken out by the Mexican government, the
• 0:33
Speaker 3: Mexican Army. The reaction has been violence, serious violence that
• 0:37
Speaker 3: is escalating. Some of it is reportedly targeting American tourists.
• 0:41
Speaker 3: We're going to break down what happens and what it means.
• 0:45
Speaker 3: We're also going to talk about the major Supreme Court
• 0:47
Speaker 3: decision that came down this week. The Supreme Court struck
• 0:50
Speaker 3: down President Trump's use of tariffs, the centerpiece of his
• 0:54
Speaker 3: economic policy abroad. The Supreme Court said that the statute
• 0:58
Speaker 3: he used to impose those those tariffs.
• 1:00
Speaker 4: A statute called AIPA does not give them the authority
• 1:04
  Speaker 4: to do.
• 1:04
Speaker 3: So, we're gonna explain what that decision was all about,
• 1:07
Speaker 3: what the court held in particular, what happens next, What
• 1:10
Speaker 3: does this mean. Does this mean Trump can't use tariffs?
• 1:13
Speaker 3: Does it mean nothing changes. We're gonna break it down
• 1:15
Speaker 3: and give you everything you need to know to understand
• 1:17
Speaker 3: this topic. And finally, we're gonna celebrate the Olympics, a
• 1:21
Speaker 3: victory in men's hockey USA USA, and we're gonna highlight
• 1:25
Speaker 3: a couple of the extraordinary athletes who represented America and
• 1:29
Speaker 3: brought home the gold.
• 1:30
Speaker 4: All of that's on today's podcast.
• 1:32
Speaker 2: Yeah, Hockey American Canada game. We got to talk about
• 1:34
Speaker 2: that one as well. It was really really fun. I
• 1:37
Speaker 2: want to just talk to you for a moment though,
• 1:38
Speaker 2: about what's happening in Israel right now and the International
• 1:42
Speaker 2: Fellowship of Christians and Jews. What they are doing to
• 1:45
Speaker 2: help people in Israel is truly unbelievable.
• 1:48
Speaker 1: Israel is a very.
• 1:49
Speaker 2: Hot topic right now, and with so many opinions and
• 1:52
Speaker 2: emotions surrounding it, it can feel hard to know where
• 1:55
Speaker 2: to start. The Bible tells us I will bless those
• 1:58
Speaker 2: who bless you. That isn't just a comforting promise, it's
• 2:02
Speaker 2: a clear calling from God. And today, with anti Semitism
• 2:06
Speaker 2: rising around the world, that calling is more urgent than ever.
• 2:09
Speaker 2: At a time when Jewish communities are experiencing more hostility,
• 2:13
Speaker 2: more threats, and more violence than ever, Christians have a
• 2:17
Speaker 2: powerful opportunity to respond with God's love to say you
• 2:21
Speaker 2: are not alone. When Christians choose to bless Israel, we're
• 2:24
Speaker 2: not entering a political issue. We're honoring the root of
• 2:28
Speaker 2: our faith and standing against hatred. Supporting Israel is more
• 2:32
Speaker 2: than a belief, it's a biblical mandate. And by partnering
• 2:35
Speaker 2: with the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, you can
• 2:39
Speaker 2: push back against darkness and be a light to God's people.
• 2:43
Speaker 2: Learn how you can bless Israel and be blessed in return.
• 2:46
Speaker 2: Visit IFCJ dot org today. That's IFCJ dot org today,
• 2:52
Speaker 2: Be a blessing live in the world. Answer the call.
• 2:55
Speaker 1: All right, Senator, So.
• 2:56
Speaker 2: Right before we started recording, we get this big news,
• 3:00
Speaker 2: and that is that the government in Mexico took out
• 3:04
Speaker 2: the leader of one of these cartels. There are several
• 3:07
Speaker 2: different cartel leaders depending on which region you're in in Mexico,
• 3:11
Speaker 2: this was a significant one. There was a large bounty
• 3:13
Speaker 2: on this individual's head by the US government as well.
• 3:16
Speaker 2: And now we're seeing what many were fearful of. That
• 3:19
Speaker 2: is and this is part of what the cartels do.
• 3:21
Speaker 2: You come after us, We'll go after the economy and tourism,
• 3:24
Speaker 2: and that's the biggest concern for so many Americans that
• 3:27
  Speaker 2: are down there.
• 3:27
Speaker 1: Spring break has started as well.
• 3:29
Speaker 3: Yeah, so here's the story of the New York Times
• 3:32
Speaker 3: about what has happened. Mexican forces kill nations most wanted
• 3:35
Speaker 3: cartel boss. Nmessio Osiguera Servantes, known as Elmentcho, was the
• 3:40
Speaker 3: head of the Jalisco New Generation cartel and widely regarded
• 3:43
Speaker 3: as one of the country's most violent criminal figures. The
• 3:46
Speaker 3: Mexican government said it killed the nation's most wanted cartel
• 3:49
Speaker 3: boss on Sunday, a major victory in its new offensive
• 3:52
Speaker 3: against the country's criminal groups and a move that could
• 3:54
Speaker 3: help reduce pressure from President Trump, who has been threatening
• 3:58
  Speaker 3: strikes in Mexico.
• 4:00
  Speaker 4: Scio Ossagura Servanto.
• 4:01
Speaker 3: Known as Elmencho, was the longtime leader of one of
• 4:04
Speaker 3: Mexico's most powerful cartels, the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, and
• 4:08
Speaker 3: he was widely regarded as one of the country's most
• 4:11
Speaker 3: violent criminal figures. He presided over a criminal enterprise that
• 4:15
Speaker 3: expanded rapidly over the past decade, producing and selling drugs
• 4:19
Speaker 3: and extorting local businesses. He also built a reputation for
• 4:23
Speaker 3: brazen attacks on security forces and terrorizing communities across the country.
• 4:29
Speaker 3: Mexican security forces led in Operation Sunday to capture mister
• 4:32
Speaker 3: Ostegura in Tapalpa, a town of about twenty thousand in
• 4:37
Speaker 3: the western coastal state of Jalisco, where his cartel was
• 4:40
Speaker 3: founded and based. The Mexican government said at least seven
• 4:44
Speaker 3: cartel members were killed.
• 4:45
  Speaker 4: During the operation.
• 4:47
Speaker 3: Mister Rosguru and two other cartel operatives were seriously injured
• 4:51
Speaker 3: in the operation and died while in transport to Mexico
• 4:54
Speaker 3: City for medical attention.
• 4:55
Speaker 4: According to the Mexican government, mister.
• 4:57
Speaker 3: Osagara's killing set off a swift outbreak of violence across
• 5:02
Speaker 3: Mexico in at least six states, including Jalisco. Residents in
• 5:06
Speaker 3: the local authorities reported that burning vehicles were blocking streets,
• 5:10
  Speaker 3: a common.
• 5:11
Speaker 4: Practice by drug cartels.
• 5:13
Speaker 3: The state of Jalisco said it had suspended public transportation
• 5:17
Speaker 3: in some areas and warned hotels to instruct their guests
• 5:21
Speaker 3: to remain inside the state of Nayarit canceled classes on Monday.
• 5:25
Speaker 3: The US government warned its citizens to shelter in place
• 5:29
Speaker 3: until further notice in parts of five states Jalisco, Tamlipas.
• 5:35
Speaker 4: Miochi, kan Guero, and Weberleon.
• 5:38
Speaker 3: Various airlines issued travel advisories or halted flights. Some of
• 5:43
Speaker 3: the violence occurred in Gualajarajalisco's capital, a hub of one
• 5:46
Speaker 3: point four million people that is a host city for
• 5:49
Speaker 3: this year's World Cup. Panic broke out at Gualajara International
• 5:54
Speaker 3: Airport on Sunday, with videos posted on social media showing
• 5:58
Speaker 3: airport staff and travelers fleeing the building, but the airport
• 6:02
Speaker 3: in Mexican federal government said that the airport was operating
• 6:05
Speaker 3: as normal and there was no risk of flyers. In
• 6:08
Speaker 3: the northern border city of Reynosa, which is located right
• 6:12
Speaker 3: across the river from McCallan, Texas, main roads and entrances
• 6:16
Speaker 3: were blocked with burning vehicles, according to local media reports.
• 6:20
Speaker 3: Vanda felbab Brown, an expert on non state armed groups
• 6:24
Speaker 3: at the Brooking Institute, said the significance of mister Osagera's
• 6:28
Speaker 3: killing rivaled that of the capture of sidhaloa cartel leader
• 6:32
Speaker 3: Juaquin Guzman Loira known as El Chapo, in twenty sixteen,
• 6:37
Speaker 3: or of his former partner Ismail Zambarda Garcia, known as
• 6:41
  Speaker 3: El Mayo.
• 6:42
Speaker 4: In twenty twenty four. Look, this is rapidly unfolding.
• 6:47
Speaker 3: There are reports of cartels targeting American citizens going after them.
• 6:54
Speaker 3: It's a dangerous time. This could change in the hours
• 6:57
Speaker 3: and days ahead. I'm certainly glad that a major cartel
• 7:02
Speaker 3: leader who has been smuggling drugs into the United States,
• 7:05
Speaker 3: has been responsible for killing Americans, is no longer with us,
• 7:09
Speaker 3: but it makes it very dangerous for the people of
• 7:12
Speaker 3: Mexico and potentially very dangerous for Americans as well.
• 7:16
Speaker 2: You know, you and I have talked about this, and
• 7:18
Speaker 2: the concern obviously that you and I both have is
• 7:22
Speaker 2: that the Mexico is being run by these cartels. We
• 7:26
Speaker 2: know that, and that's been one of the things that
• 7:29
Speaker 2: Donald Trump has been talking about, is like, look, you
• 7:32
Speaker 2: guys are killing Americans with the amount of drugs coming
• 7:34
Speaker 2: across your border, the fetanyl and other things. We also
• 7:37
Speaker 2: know about the open border just from human smuggling and
• 7:39
Speaker 2: human trafficking, and sex trafficking and child sex trafficking, those combined,
• 7:43
Speaker 2: and the present made it clear to Mexico you better
• 7:46
Speaker 2: act or we will act the same way that we acted.
• 7:49
Speaker 2: And we weren't bluffing in Venezuela taking out a narco
• 7:52
Speaker 2: terrorist there. This is clearly, I think Mexico's government signaling
• 7:56
Speaker 2: that we heard you, and probably more so since what
• 8:00
Speaker 2: they witnessed in Venezuela, and they're saying, we would rather
• 8:03
Speaker 2: choose who we take out than you guys start doing it.
• 8:05
Speaker 1: Is that a fair assessment.
• 8:07
  Speaker 4: I think that's a very fair assessment.
• 8:09
Speaker 3: As you'll recall, in August of last year, I went
• 8:12
Speaker 3: down to Mexico. I did a trip to El Salvador
• 8:15
Speaker 3: in Panama and in Mexico, and I met with senior
• 8:17
Speaker 3: officials in the Mexican government and the message I conveyed
• 8:21
Speaker 3: to them is that they needed to get serious fighting
• 8:23
Speaker 3: the cartels, to stop the drug trafficking into America, to
• 8:26
Speaker 3: stop the human trafficking into America. And the message I
• 8:30
Speaker 3: conveyed is if you don't get serious, President Trump is
• 8:32
Speaker 3: going to And this was before the Maduro raid, but
• 8:36
Speaker 3: the Maduro raid was not a surprise, and that it
• 8:39
Speaker 3: was clear the president was going to do what is
• 8:41
Speaker 3: necessary to keep America safe and my message and the
• 8:44
Speaker 3: Mexican leaders did not like that. When I conveyed that message,
• 8:48
Speaker 3: I said, look, we're not going to let you just
• 8:52
Speaker 3: sit there and turn a blind eye while these transnational
• 8:55
Speaker 3: criminal organizations flood poisons into America and kill Americans, and
• 9:01
Speaker 3: while they traffic in human beings and assault and sexually
• 9:05
Speaker 3: assault little children. We're not simply going to sit by
• 9:07
Speaker 3: and say that's okay. This is not the Biden administration.
• 9:11
Speaker 3: These are not Democrats who are going to say we
• 9:13
Speaker 3: have no problem with thousands of children being molested by
• 9:17
Speaker 3: human traffickers because it furthers our political agenda to get
• 9:21
Speaker 3: more people in America who will vote for Democrats. That
• 9:24
Speaker 3: is not what this administration is doing. And you and
• 9:26
Speaker 3: I talked about it in the wake of the Maduro arrest.
• 9:31
Speaker 3: I said, listen, this has changed the geopolitical power structure
• 9:35
Speaker 3: throughout Latin America. Every dictator in Latin America, at three
• 9:39
Speaker 3: am on January third.
• 9:41
Speaker 4: They change their shorts.
• 9:44
Speaker 3: The leadership, the Communist leadership in Cuba and Nicaragua, those
• 9:48
Speaker 3: guys are terrified. In Colombia, we saw Petro immediately calling
• 9:52
Speaker 3: and saying this President, I'm not resisting you at all.
• 9:55
Speaker 3: We saw the immediate reaction in Colombia. And look, I
• 9:59
Speaker 3: emphasized in nations like Brazil and Mexico. Brazil and Mexico
• 10:03
Speaker 3: stand on very different footing than a Cuba or a
• 10:06
Speaker 3: nicaragu or even a Columbia. But they are headed by
• 10:09
Speaker 3: leftists who have been vocally anti American. And I will
• 10:13
Speaker 3: say Mexico has pivoted sharply, and this is a real
• 10:17
Speaker 3: manifestation of that. And Bennett's worth not losing sight of
• 10:22
Speaker 3: the fact. You might say, okay, well, why target these
• 10:25
  Speaker 3: narco terrorists?
• 10:26
  Speaker 4: Why do this?
• 10:27
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 10:28
Speaker 3: One of the most compelling stats from the last year
• 10:32
Speaker 3: is that murder rates nationally have dropped more than twenty
• 10:37
  Speaker 3: percent nationwide.
• 10:38
  Speaker 1: It's nationwide.
• 10:40
Speaker 3: Drug overdose rates nationwide have dropped more than twenty percent.
• 10:47
Speaker 3: There are literally, this is not exaggeration. There are literally
• 10:51
Speaker 3: thousands of Americans who are alive today because Trump was
• 10:55
  Speaker 3: reelected and Republicans.
• 10:57
Speaker 4: Were put in charge of Congress.
• 10:58
Speaker 3: If we had kept the Democrat open borders going, there
• 11:01
Speaker 3: would be thousands more Americans dead from murder and other
• 11:06
Speaker 3: violent crime and from drug overdoses. And I got to
• 11:10
Speaker 3: tell you, Ben, did you happen to read front page
• 11:13
Speaker 3: story in the Houston Chronicle a couple of weeks ago.
• 11:16
Speaker 1: Which was on the murder rates? Yes, no, I did.
• 11:19
Speaker 2: And what's interesting about where you're going with this is
• 11:22
Speaker 2: most police departments and local governments celebrate a three percent
• 11:25
Speaker 2: drop in violent crime. Like that's like worth having a
• 11:29
Speaker 2: press conference over for you to say, look at this
• 11:31
Speaker 2: trend and now you look at what you mentioned nationwide
• 11:34
Speaker 2: and go back to I know where you're going with
• 11:36
Speaker 2: a story, but like, these are numbers that traditionally would
• 11:39
Speaker 2: take three, four, five, six, seven years of every year
• 11:43
Speaker 2: doubling down to get the numbers down as fast as
• 11:45
Speaker 2: they've under Trump administration.
• 11:46
Speaker 1: It is. It's remarkable.
• 11:49
Speaker 3: Well it's about two three weeks ago Houston Chronicle front page,
• 11:52
Speaker 3: top of the fold, banner headline, murder rate in Houston,
• 11:56
Speaker 3: Texas drops eighteen percent. Yeah, you and I both live
• 11:59
Speaker 3: in here. That's good news. Our families are in Houston.
• 12:02
Speaker 3: Heidi handed me this story on a newspaper on an airplane,
• 12:07
Speaker 3: and she did it because she knew it would piss me.
• 12:09
Speaker 2: Off, as you have a good wife, when your wife
• 12:15
Speaker 2: would never do that to you, right, never.
• 12:16
Speaker 1: No, they never poked the bear. Yeah, keep going.
• 12:19
Speaker 3: So I read the article, and the article says the
• 12:21
Speaker 3: murder rate has dropped eighteen percent. Nobody can figure out why.
• 12:25
Speaker 3: It's completely baffling. Experts are confused. There is no possible cause.
• 12:30
Speaker 3: It just magically unicorns flew from the sky, they spread
• 12:34
Speaker 3: pixie dust, and the murder rates fell eighteen percent.
• 12:37
Speaker 4: And it did not.
• 12:38
Speaker 3: Occur to the reporter to these quote experts who are
• 12:41
Speaker 3: all left wing knuckleheads that maybe arresting and deporting thousands
• 12:47
Speaker 3: upon thousands of murderers and rabists and gang bangers who
• 12:52
Speaker 3: are illegal immigrants, maybe if there are fewer murderers, there
• 12:56
Speaker 3: will be fewer murders. That this is not subtle or
• 12:59
Speaker 3: complex public policy. And yet the Houston Chronicle, this is
• 13:05
  Speaker 3: completely undecipherable.
• 13:07
Speaker 1: You know, I've been in DC right now.
• 13:08
Speaker 2: You're coming back up here obviously for the State of
• 13:10
Speaker 2: the Union, and I'm up here for literally meetings on
• 13:13
Speaker 2: the state of the Union. And one of the things
• 13:15
Speaker 2: that was asked I was earlier today, what should the
• 13:18
Speaker 2: president focus on? What are the issues This is obviously
• 13:22
Speaker 2: a curve ball, and this is what the writers are
• 13:24
Speaker 2: going to be dealing with right now. But what would
• 13:26
Speaker 2: your advice be to the president on should this make
• 13:28
Speaker 2: it in the City of the Union, And should you
• 13:30
Speaker 2: say to Mexico, hey, you're head in the right direction,
• 13:33
Speaker 2: but we're not finished yet, like it's time to keep going.
• 13:36
Speaker 2: Or is this where you let them take the lead.
• 13:38
Speaker 2: I'm very much torn on this one. I think this
• 13:41
Speaker 2: is an American foreign policy. First, you say, look, this is
• 13:43
Speaker 2: step in the right direction. But let's be clear, there's
• 13:45
Speaker 2: several other leaders of other cartels in Mexico that are
• 13:49
Speaker 2: still active right now.
• 13:50
  Speaker 4: Listen.
• 13:51
Speaker 3: I very much agree with President Trump and his focus
• 13:53
Speaker 3: on America. First, I spoke with a president just a
• 13:56
Speaker 3: few days ago, spent about thirty minutes on the phone
• 13:58
Speaker 3: with him, and we actually talked about before this drug
• 14:01
Speaker 3: dealer was killed, but I talked to him about I said, look,
• 14:04
Speaker 3: let me encourage you and the administration focus more on
• 14:09
Speaker 3: the messaging about what you and I just talked about
• 14:11
Speaker 3: about the murder rate plummeting, the drug overdose deaths plummeting.
• 14:16
Speaker 3: That is a big deal, and so I think it's
• 14:19
Speaker 3: perfectly appropriate and would be fitting to mention this, this
• 14:22
Speaker 3: drug dealer being killed.
• 14:24
Speaker 4: But I wouldn't make the focus Mexico.
• 14:25
Speaker 3: I wouldn't make the focus by the way, Venezuela or
• 14:29
Speaker 3: any other country. What I would make the focus is
• 14:31
Speaker 3: America that by standing up to Narco terrorists, by standing
• 14:36
Speaker 3: up to people who are killing Americans, fewer Americans are dying.
• 14:41
Speaker 3: I think the entire speech on Tuesday should be all
• 14:45
Speaker 3: about how people's lives are materially better because of the
• 14:49
Speaker 3: policies President Trump is put in place and a Republican
• 14:52
Speaker 3: Congress is put in place, and I'd like to see
• 14:54
Speaker 3: crime in law and order as a major, major theme
• 14:57
  Speaker 3: of the address.
• 14:58
Speaker 2: Final question for you. You mentioned earlier that there's a
• 15:01
Speaker 2: shelter in place. Your office I'm sure is going to
• 15:04
Speaker 2: get a lot of phone calls on Monday. If I
• 15:06
Speaker 2: was down in Mexico for spring break right now, I'd
• 15:08
Speaker 2: be calling as well. What if you have family down there,
• 15:12
Speaker 2: or you're down there and you're listening to this and
• 15:14
Speaker 2: you want to just who do you talk to, who
• 15:16
Speaker 2: do you get in touch with, what do you do
• 15:17
Speaker 2: and what do you tell your family to do when
• 15:19
Speaker 2: it comes to contacting do you contact Congress, senators or
• 15:22
Speaker 2: what who do you call?
• 15:24
Speaker 3: You know, I would go to the State Department, the
• 15:25
Speaker 3: State Department website. They put out country notices, they have information,
• 15:29
Speaker 3: and they have information typically broken down by the particular region,
• 15:33
Speaker 3: by the state within Mexico. There is no doubt that
• 15:36
Speaker 3: Mexico right now it is a very dangerous place. That
• 15:39
Speaker 3: that tragically, the cartel violence has gotten really bad. Now, Ben,
• 15:44
Speaker 3: you know, I'm a fan of Mexico. I happen to
• 15:46
Speaker 3: like ken Kun. Yeah, that may a couple of people
• 15:50
Speaker 3: may have noticed that. Look, I think Mexico is a

Speaker 3: beautiful country. Texas and Mexico have a long history that
• 15:57
Speaker 3: is intertwined. And what has happened to Mexico in recent
• 16:02

• 16:06

• 16:12
Speaker 3: Department website closely. I would read news reports. We don't
• 16:16
Speaker 3: know how this is going to go. If it escalates,
• 16:18
Speaker 3: if we see the cartels targeting American tourists at a
• 16:23
Speaker 3: significant level, I would think very carefully about that.

• 17:42
Speaker 2: uh we made predictions on this. SHOW i Should this
• 17:44
Speaker 2: is WHY i should say you made predictions on the.
• 17:45
Speaker 2: Show separate myself from. THEM i always look at, this
• 17:49
Speaker 2: who's we ben throwing me? Overboard so? Fast center you
• 17:54
Speaker 2: made a prediction about The Supreme court on. Tariffs it
• 17:56
Speaker 2: was actually really funny this. MORNING i was doing A
• 17:59
Speaker 2: Foxing sunday shit, me she. GOES i listened to y'all
• 18:01
Speaker 2: the show when you were making your, predictions because nine
• 18:04
Speaker 2: percent of the Time ted's right on The Supreme, court
• 18:06
Speaker 2: and he made a. Prediction he thought it was going
• 18:08
Speaker 2: to go to the president's way on These it. Didn't
• 18:10
Speaker 2: but there was also something interesting in. There Brett kavanaugh
• 18:13
Speaker 2: wrote basically in, there AND i found this incredibly interesting that,
• 18:18
Speaker 2: hey what we're saying you, did you can't necessarily do
• 18:20
Speaker 2: it that. Way, however here is a way you can do.
• 18:23
Speaker 2: It it reminded me almost of Like, obamacare when they're, like,
• 18:27
Speaker 2: well if you do it this, way then you can
• 18:29
Speaker 2: get away with, it but the way you're doing, it
• 18:30
Speaker 2: don't keep doing it that.
• 18:31
Speaker 1: Way do it this other.
• 18:33
Speaker 2: Way it was like a roadmap for him to still have,
• 18:35
Speaker 2: tariffs still have the power that the presidency needs to do,
• 18:38
Speaker 2: this and you saw The president jump all over that
• 18:40
Speaker 2: with a ten percent saying this ain't going.
• 18:42
Speaker 1: AWAY i don't know if this is a big of a.
• 18:44
Speaker 2: Defeat As democrats and media are trying to make it
• 18:46
Speaker 2: out to, be and the present instant, RESPONDS i think
• 18:49
Speaker 2: it proves he still has a ton of.
• 18:51
Speaker 4: Power, well, Listen i'm going to start by eating.
• 18:55
Speaker 3: CROW i did make a prediction on this, podcast AND
• 18:58
Speaker 3: i make a lot of predictions on this and we've
• 19:01
Speaker 3: never tallied the, number BUT i think we're north of eighty,
• 19:04
Speaker 3: percent maybe even north of ninety.
• 19:05
Speaker 1: Percent, Right i'm gonna get you.
• 19:07
Speaker 2: Credit said it's above ninety BECAUSE i make SURE i
• 19:09
Speaker 2: give you a hard time when you're, wrong and that's
• 19:10
  Speaker 2: not very.
• 19:11
Speaker 1: Often so this is on that. Sheet but you.
• 19:13
Speaker 3: Know, Yeah and by the, way we don't make small
• 19:17
Speaker 3: and mild. PREDICTIONS i, MEAN i mean we make bold
• 19:20
Speaker 3: and aggressive. Predictions in twenty twenty, four.
• 19:23
Speaker 1: He was the biggest. One, Yeah Joe. Biden let's let's
• 19:25
  Speaker 1: just talk about.
• 19:26
Speaker 3: IT i predicted That Joe biden would not be the
• 19:28
Speaker 3: nominee a year before it, happened and said they are
• 19:32
Speaker 3: going to replace, him he is not going to be
• 19:35
Speaker 3: on the Ballot november and and and the corporate media
• 19:39
Speaker 3: made fun of me like crazy for that. Prediction of,
• 19:42
Speaker 3: course it was exactly. Right we've made a lot of.
• 19:44
Speaker 3: Predictions we broke down In march And. April at the
• 19:48
Speaker 3: beginning OF, COVID i laid out the evidence that THE
• 19:51
Speaker 3: covid virus escaped from A chinese government lab right at the,
• 19:54
Speaker 3: beginning and the predictions and that we laid out. There
• 19:59
Speaker 3: the evidence we laid out there was square on. Right
• 20:01
Speaker 3: SO i made a prediction that The Supreme court five
• 20:04
Speaker 3: to four would uphold the president's use of terroriffts that
• 20:08
Speaker 3: prediction proved, false what actually happened is six' Three the
• 20:12
Speaker 3: court struck. IT down i also Predicted That john roberts
• 20:15
Speaker 3: would write the. MAJORITY opinion i guess that did prove,
• 20:18
Speaker 3: technically accurate but he wrote the majority opinion going the.
• 20:21
Speaker 3: Other way HERE'S why i Thought the court was going
• 20:25
Speaker 3: to uphold the, President's TARIFFS and, i said they're a massive.
• 20:28
Speaker 3: Reliance interests there have been hundreds of billions of dollars of,
• 20:31
Speaker 3: tariffs collected and the court is reluctant to dramatically upset the.
• 20:37
Speaker 3: Status QUO and i, did say If the court were
• 20:40
Speaker 3: deciding this issue a, year ago right at the beginning
• 20:43
Speaker 3: Of the, TRUMP administration, I said i think they'd come
• 20:46
Speaker 3: out the. Other way but after a year plus after
• 20:49
Speaker 3: this being central to the economic and foreign policy agenda of.
• 20:54
Speaker 4: THE president i thought the court would not struck. It
• 20:57
  Speaker 4: down that.
• 20:57
Speaker 3: Proved wrong but at the end of, THE day i
• 21:02
  Speaker 3: don't think it matters a.
• 21:03
Speaker 4: Whole lot let's cut to.
• 21:04
Speaker 3: THE conclusion i don't think the consequences of this decision
• 21:08
Speaker 3: are going to be all. That much what the court
• 21:11
Speaker 3: decided narrowly is that one PARTICULAR statute iipa does not
• 21:16
Speaker 3: give the president the authority to. Impose, tariffs now, MIND
• 21:20
Speaker 3: you iepa Gives the president the authority to quote. Regulate
• 21:25
Speaker 3: importations and so the majority, opinion concluded the president can
• 21:31
Speaker 3: ban an import from, a country can say we will
• 21:36
Speaker 3: Import zero german Cars. Into america he can, do that
• 21:40
Speaker 3: but he can't say we're going to charge a dollar
• 21:42
Speaker 3: for each one Of those. German cars that is a pretty.
• 21:46
Speaker 3: Loopy CONCLUSION and i.
• 21:47
  Speaker 4: Got to say.
• 21:48
Speaker 3: The Descents justice kavanaugh wrote the. Lead Descent justice thomas
• 21:52
Speaker 3: wrote an. EXCELLENT descent i think the descents get the
• 21:54
Speaker 3: much better of the argument that the Words that congress
• 21:59
Speaker 3: put IN THE iepa a statute, regulate Importation And justice
• 22:03
Speaker 3: thomas had an originalist dissent where he goes through in
• 22:07
Speaker 3: the foreign policy area, in particular the ability to import
• 22:12
Speaker 3: goods from other countries was never viewed as. A right
• 22:14
Speaker 3: it was a privilege the government allowed you. To do and,
• 22:17
Speaker 3: in fact tariffs were a major tool government used to
• 22:20
Speaker 3: regulate importation from. Other COUNTRIES so i think the majority decision.
• 22:25
Speaker 3: Is wrong but here's the thing. That matters there are
• 22:30
Speaker 3: so many other statutes that allow the president to impose
• 22:34
Speaker 3: TARIFFS that i think we will see essentially the.
• 22:37
Speaker 4: Same regime it's gonna be a little.
• 22:38
Speaker 3: More complicated he's gonna have to do a little bit,
• 22:40
Speaker 3: more work it's going to require some more, legal PROCEEDINGS
• 22:43
Speaker 3: but i think you're going to. See him we saw
• 22:45
Speaker 3: Immediately the president announced a ten percent tariff on. Every
• 22:48
Speaker 3: country he then upped that to. Fifteen PERCENT but i
• 22:52
Speaker 3: think at the end of, the Day the president will
• 22:54
Speaker 3: continue to use tariffs as a critical part of his,
• 22:57
Speaker 3: foreign POLICY and i hope we talked about This on.
• 23:01
Speaker 3: VERDICT before i hope that he uses tariffs as leverage
• 23:05
Speaker 3: to open up. FOREIGN markets i don't want a world
• 23:07
Speaker 3: where we have high teriffs, for EVERYONE but i do
• 23:09
Speaker 3: think tariffs are very, powerful LEVERAGE and i think the
• 23:13
Speaker 3: president has ample authority to continue.
• 23:15
  Speaker 4: Using them, you.
• 23:16
  Speaker 1: Know it's interesting.
• 23:17
Speaker 2: About this when, it happened there was two people that were,
• 23:20
Speaker 2: really celebrating, TWO groups i, should Say The democratic Party.
• 23:24
Speaker 2: And China and china was really. Celebrating this and then
• 23:28
Speaker 2: they were talking about buying soybean crops from other countries Instead,
• 23:31
Speaker 2: of america and that was like one of the big
• 23:33
Speaker 2: things that really blew up in the media on. Social
• 23:36
Speaker 2: media and then you have the same excitement From The
• 23:39
Speaker 2: Chinese communist party as you did From The. Democratic party
• 23:42
Speaker 2: that tells me an awful lot about this tariff. War
• 23:46
Speaker 2: issue this is Just, two democrats not about what's Best,
• 23:49
Speaker 2: for america not about us having better. Trade deal it's
• 23:52
Speaker 2: not About saving american Jobs or, american manufacturing protecting that
• 23:57
Speaker 2: or bringing jobs back to this country in manufacturing and
• 24:00
Speaker 2: Bringing back american businesses to. Our soil they Just Want
• 24:03
Speaker 2: donald trump. To lose and they're on the same Team
• 24:06
  Speaker 2: with china on.
• 24:06
  Speaker 1: This.
• 24:07
Speaker 3: One, yeah look That's where, democrats are that's where much
• 24:10
Speaker 3: of the. Media is let me walk through. Two Things,
• 24:12
Speaker 3: number one there's gonna be. Some chaos one of THE
• 24:15
Speaker 3: reasons i didn't think the court would do what they
• 24:16
Speaker 3: did is you've got hundreds of billions of dollars of.
• 24:20
Speaker 4: Tariffs that's going to. Be collected there's gonna be.
• 24:22
Speaker 3: Massive litigation everyone that's paid the tariffs is going to
• 24:25
Speaker 3: look AT do i, go BACK do?
• 24:26
Speaker 4: I SUE do i try to.
• 24:27
Speaker 3: Collect it it's going to vary in terms of whether
• 24:31
Speaker 3: they filed a timely protest to. THE tariffs i think
• 24:34
Speaker 3: some of, those tariffs the litigation result is going to,
• 24:37
Speaker 3: be no you can't get it back because you didn't timely.
• 24:41
Speaker 3: Protest it some of the people who paid tariffs will
• 24:44
Speaker 3: have timely, protested it and so there's a very good
• 24:47
Speaker 3: chance this is going To cost american taxpayers billions, of
• 24:50
Speaker 3: dollars maybe even tens of billions of dollars. Or more
• 24:53
Speaker 3: that litigation chaos will will unfold.
• 24:56
Speaker 4: FOR years i didn't think the court would.
• 24:58
Speaker 3: Do that but terms of the president's ability to, do
• 25:01
Speaker 3: this so let me walk through some of the different
• 25:03
Speaker 3: statutes that. Are available there is, number one section three
• 25:07
Speaker 3: three eight Of The teriff act of nineteen thirty that's
• 25:09
Speaker 3: Actually The Smoot, holly act which authorizes the president to
• 25:13
Speaker 3: impose teriffs of up to fifty percent on imports from
• 25:18
Speaker 3: any country that quote DISCRIMINATES against.
• 25:21
  Speaker 4: Us businesses the.
• 25:23
Speaker 3: Statute is vague and it, is short and no president
• 25:27
Speaker 3: has used, this authority so it's, uncharted area but it
• 25:30
  Speaker 3: remains on the.
• 25:31
Speaker 4: Statute book so that's.
• 25:32
Speaker 3: One area, another area which is where the president went pretty,
• 25:38
Speaker 3: much Immediately is section one twenty two Of The trade
• 25:43
Speaker 3: act of nineteen. Seventy Four the section one twenty two
• 25:46
Speaker 3: Gives the president the power to impose duties of up
• 25:48
Speaker 3: to fifteen percent for up to one hundred and fifty
• 25:52
Speaker 3: days in order to address quote large and serious balance of.
• 25:56
Speaker 3: Payments deficits congress has to vote to extend them past
• 26:00
Speaker 3: one hundred and fifty, day limit or else the, duties
• 26:03
Speaker 3: expire But the president is able to reissue them.
• 26:07
  Speaker 4: On expiration.
• 26:10
Speaker 3: This is What the president used as a result immediately
• 26:14
Speaker 3: to impose the fifteen. Percent tariff so that's, one avenue
• 26:18
Speaker 3: and then that there are a couple Of other section
• 26:21
Speaker 3: three oh one Of The trade act of nineteen seventy
• 26:23
Speaker 3: four AUTHORIZES The Us trade representative to investigate and act
• 26:27
Speaker 3: upon results of an investigation revealing unfair. Trade practices section
• 26:34
Speaker 3: three oh one has been used quite. A bit in twenty,
• 26:36
Speaker 3: twenty Four the biden administration opened three investigations under section
• 26:41
Speaker 3: three oh one and determined that the countries had violated
• 26:47
Speaker 3: violated the. Provisions there that's also What in trump's, SECOND
• 26:54
Speaker 3: Administration Us trade representative's office has opened a three oh
• 26:57
Speaker 3: one Investigation into Brazil, and china and they're considering One.
• 27:01
Speaker 3: For korea so section three oh one takes. An investigation
• 27:05
Speaker 3: it's a, little slower but it gives more potent. Tariff
• 27:07
Speaker 3: authority there Is also section two thirty two Of The
• 27:12
Speaker 3: Trade expansion act in nineteen, sixty two and that allows
• 27:16
Speaker 3: the president to impose restrictions on goods and imports and
• 27:21
Speaker 3: following an investigation if it's found that the imports quote
• 27:26
Speaker 3: threatened TO impair us. National Security so trump has used
• 27:30
Speaker 3: that for steel imports and. Aluminum imports in twenty, twenty
• 27:35
Speaker 3: five he expanded steel and, aluminum tariffs increasing the aluminum
• 27:39
Speaker 3: rate to twenty, five percent eliminating all. Country exemptions, to
• 27:44
Speaker 3: Date the trump administration has launched Twelve different section two thirty,
• 27:48
Speaker 3: two investigations. Concluded five and then There's finally section two
• 27:54
Speaker 3: oh one Of The trade active of nineteen, seventy four
• 27:57
Speaker 3: which permits temporary safeguard tariffs to protect domestic industries from
• 28:03
Speaker 3: serious injury caused by. Import surges trump Has used SECTION
• 28:08
Speaker 3: two a one to put tariffs on, solar cells, on modules.
• 28:12
  Speaker 4: And in residential.
• 28:13
Speaker 3: Washing machines look the long and short, Of it you
• 28:16
Speaker 3: guys don't need to memorize all those different. Section numbers
• 28:19
Speaker 3: the point is they're a bunch of different federal laws
• 28:23
Speaker 3: that give the president a bunch of authority to. Impost
• 28:28
Speaker 3: tariffs the lawyers and the administration will work a little,
• 28:31
Speaker 3: bit Harder As justice, kavanaugh said in, the sense at
• 28:34
Speaker 3: the end of, the Day The supreme, court, said well
• 28:36
Speaker 3: you check the wrong box and you pick the, wrong
• 28:38
Speaker 3: statute so these tariffs. Don't apply but the bottom line
• 28:42
Speaker 3: is going to Be the president's going to be able
• 28:43
Speaker 3: to get there using.
• 28:45
Speaker 2: Other, means yeah it's going to be interesting to see
• 28:47
Speaker 2: How the president also responds on the say Of the union.
• 28:49
Speaker 1: TO this i have a feeling it's gonna be.
• 28:51
Speaker 2: PRETTY blunt i love when they ASKED and i what
• 28:53
Speaker 2: do you Say this justice. Still invited he, goes yes,
• 28:56
Speaker 2: but barely which kind of made. Me laugh, it's, like
• 28:58
Speaker 2: yeah that's never don't Moment With donald trump on. THIS
• 29:01
  Speaker 2: stuff i have a feeling it's gonna be a, very
• 29:03
Speaker 2: fun Say the union to watch all, right center and
• 29:06
Speaker 2: finally we get to end on a really really, fun
• 29:08

• 30:32
Speaker 3: draped themselves in. The flag they didn't engage in the
• 30:34
Speaker 3: sort of petulant that they are playing for the country

Speaker 3: in a way that just makes. You proud that's what
• 30:41
Speaker 3: you want. To see our athletes like standing up for,
