Don Wilson Holds Out for a Raise
Aired: Jan 23rd, 1949. Jack Benny locks horns with announcer Don Wilson over a stubborn contract negotiation, refusing to budge on salary while Don refuses to budge on his no-eating-during-broadcasts clause. Along the way, Rochester schemes to starve Don into signing, Mary drops by to needle Jack about his stinginess, and even Polly the parrot gets a punchline. A classic showcase of Benny's legendary cheapskate persona and the ensemble's razor-sharp back-and-forth.
