- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here. Hello, it's Yvonne too.
- 0:15Happy Friday. Happy Friday indeed, and it's
- 0:18the 23rd of January. I'm not sure of the significance
- 0:22of that date, but I'm sure you're about to tell us.
- 0:24No, there is no significance. I was just actually, I was
- 0:27listening to us do our thing last week and I like I am so
- 0:31difficult to communicate with because I speak in circles and
- 0:35jokes and you are such a straight shooter.
- 0:38Oh dear. And there's this thing and I'm
- 0:41going off on a tangent and you just like straight shoot, say
- 0:44anything that needs to be said. So thank you for being like the
- 0:47rational, normal person in our marriage.
- 0:49You're welcome, I. Think to the point where we have
- 0:53a little person come to stay with us, and you have to like,
- 0:56tell the rest of us, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 0:57We have to talk in a way that's actually understandable to those
- 1:00who are concrete thinkers. I am the interpreter sometimes.
- 1:05So to that end, let's get stuck into the proverbs for today.
- 1:09You just straight shooting alright, pointing at the the
- 1:12Bible. Let us do this.
- 1:13We are reading a whopper. We're reading 9 Proverbs today.
- 1:17So much wisdom for us to sift through and benefit from.
- 1:20Oh, that'll keep us going all weekend.
- 1:23Here we go reading together Proverbs 2015 to 23.
- 1:38Wise words are more valuable than much gold and many rubies.
- 1:44Get security from someone who guarantees a stranger's debt.
- 1:49Get a deposit if he does it for foreigners.
- 1:54Stolen bread tastes sweet, but it turns to gravel in the mouth.
- 2:01Plans succeed through good counsel.
- 2:05Don't go to war without wise advice.
- 2:09A gossip goes around telling secrets, so don't hang around
- 2:13with chatterers. If you insult your father or
- 2:17mother, your light will be snuffed out in total darkness.
- 2:24An inheritance obtained too early in life.
- 2:26It's not a blessing in the end. Don't say I will get even for
- 2:31this wrong. Wait for the Lord to handle the
- 2:34matter. The Lord detests double
- 2:39standards. He is not pleased by dishonest
- 2:42scales. And again.
- 2:47Wise words are more valuable than much gold and many rubies.

- 3:02Stolen bread tastes sweet, but it turns to gravel in the mouth.
- 3:09Plans succeed through good counsel.
- 3:12Don't go to war without wise advice.
- 3:16A gossip goes around telling secrets, so don't hang around
- 3:20with chatterers. If you insult your father or
- 3:25mother, your life will be snuffed out in total darkness.
- 3:30An inheritance obtained too early in life is not a blessing
- 3:34in the end. Don't say I will get even for
- 3:40this wrong. Wait for the Lord to handle the
- 3:43matter. The Lord detests double
- 3:47standards. He is not pleased by dishonest
- 3:50scales. And again, we just see that
- 4:02recurring theme over these last few Fridays of the Lord
- 4:05detesting double standards and people being dishonest with
- 4:08their scales and measures and just that that is so far from
- 4:12what the Lord wants for us. The one that really stood out
- 4:16for me was that so often we want to get even for wrongs.
- 4:20We want to to make things right ourselves.
- 4:23But the proverbs say wait for God to handle the matter.
- 4:27God is going to be the judge and the restorer of of peace and
- 4:30justice. Our Father, it is you who has
- 4:35these perfect standards. It's you who is the perfect
- 4:38judge. It is you who is the author of
- 4:40truth and in fact is truth. And so in this proverb, we hear
- 4:48that you detest those that aren't true or would obscure or
- 4:53obstruct truth, and that even when things go wrong and we see
- 4:57people doing that, it's not our place to make things right.
- 5:01It's not our place to seek revenge.
- 5:02But you are a God who will bring all things to balance in the
- 5:07end. So, Lord, we surrender to your
- 5:10truth. We surrender to your perfect
- 5:14judgement. And what's more, we do that in
- 5:18the context of your beautiful grace, that even when we mess
- 5:22up, even when we are the ones obscuring justice and and
- 5:27changing scales and being dishonest, that through Jesus
- 5:31you forgive us and you love us. We're so grateful for you to be
- 5:37the righteous God that you are, but also a loving and forgiving
- 5:40God. And thank you that your love and
- 5:43forgiveness extends to us so generously.
- 5:46So we bask in this and we thank you, and we praise you, and we
- 5:51pray all of these things in your wonderful name, Jesus, Amen.
