- 0:45Speaker 2: going live to the press conference with some people from
- 0:49Speaker 2: the Patriots. They told me they didn't announce who's going
- 0:52Speaker 2: to be at the press conference, just that there's going
- 0:54Speaker 2: to be a press conference at noon. We're assuming Robert
- 0:57Speaker 2: Kraft will at least be a participant in that, but
- 1:00Speaker 2: we're going to be going to that live and we'll
- 1:03Speaker 2: probably be with you for a long time today past
- 1:08Speaker 2: two o'clock up.
- 1:09Speaker 5: As a look, and.
- 1:09Speaker 2: We're looking at this is not the media work room,
- 1:13Speaker 2: this is the team auditorium. So there's Stacy James coming
- 1:18Speaker 2: to the podium.
- 1:19Speaker 5: Yeah. Stacey did announce that there will be statements from
- 1:21Speaker 5: Bill Belichick and Robert Kraft. There will be no questions
- 1:24Speaker 5: here at twelve o'clock, but he said that Robert, we'll
- 1:27Speaker 5: come back out later today and answer questions. So okay,
- 1:31Speaker 5: two statements here coming out, so we'll have both of.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Those things live.
- 1:34Speaker 2: So just stay with this show and we're just going
- 1:37Speaker 2: to be with you the Draft show. This is you know,
- 1:40Speaker 2: it's Deuce, it's Paul to me. I'm assuming Evan will
- 1:43Speaker 2: be by later.
- 1:46Speaker 6: Everyone went there, yep, because of Picks, Alex needs to
- 1:49Speaker 6: be crowned as the Picks Champion. I'm going to let
- 1:51Speaker 6: the cat out of the bag there, okay, so she'll
- 1:53Speaker 6: she'll come by.
- 1:54Speaker 1: To So this is an historic day.
- 1:56Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, Alex first ever female champion the Picks contest.
- 2:00Speaker 6: That is. Yeah, it was history.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Well I was thinking more like no Belichick.
- 2:04Speaker 6: Is well that too too, Yeah, that too. Yeah. I
- 2:08Speaker 6: don't mean to make I'm just trying to, you know,
- 2:09Speaker 6: have some fun. I mean, I I it's obviously you know,
- 2:13Speaker 6: it's a it's a weird day because for twenty four years,
- 2:16Speaker 6: you know, he's been the Patriots, So it is. It's
- 2:20Speaker 6: it's a little different it was. You know, you knew
- 2:22Speaker 6: it was coming, you knew it was happening, but still
- 2:25Speaker 6: it's like kind of jarring when it actually comes down.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I know, I was a little shocked that got
- 2:32Speaker 2: a phone call this morning about seven ten.
- 2:35Speaker 1: You know it's happening.
- 2:36Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, that's what I mean. I saw the
- 2:39Speaker 5: Chefter report this morning, and yeah, then it was just
- 2:41Speaker 5: the cascade of tweets and people have been reflecting, and
- 2:46Speaker 5: it's just I think we've talked about it. It's just
- 2:48Speaker 5: hard to still wrap your head around when it actually happens.
- 2:50Speaker 5: And you know, and I think about where I was
- 2:53Speaker 5: in two thousand when he started here, like a lifetime ago.
- 2:55Speaker 5: It's just it's crazy how much is happening in between
- 2:58Speaker 5: now and then, just.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Just a little side note for all those people that
- 3:02Speaker 2: after Schefter and Reese came out with it, that tweeted
- 3:04Speaker 2: according to sources, cand you just admit that the source
- 3:07Speaker 2: is the tweet that you just saw.
- 3:09Speaker 1: I mean, come on, right, it's easy, people, I don't care.
- 3:12Speaker 6: I appreciate Fred's bitterness right there.
- 3:14Speaker 1: That was anyway, that's right right up my alley. I
- 3:17Speaker 1: like it, but this is this is a big deal.
- 3:20Speaker 2: It is a big, big deal, not just here in
- 3:23Speaker 2: New England, but across the NFL and I think sports.
- 3:26Speaker 6: I mean, if you take a step back, and this
- 3:30Speaker 6: isn't even trying to be over dramatic, but like the
- 3:33Speaker 6: NFL players are starting on Saturday, no one's talking about
- 3:36Speaker 6: any of these playoff games right now. You had, in
- 3:38Speaker 6: the span of twenty four hours, Pete Carroll, Nick Saban
- 3:41Speaker 6: and Bill Belichick all you know, out of their you know,
- 3:46Speaker 6: current jobs up, you know, and there's Bill.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Let's go to the press conference right now. It's Bill Belichick.
- 3:53Speaker 7: Good, all right, morning, seen this many cameras since we
- 4:00Speaker 7: on Tibo. M Robert and I, after you know, a
- 4:06Speaker 7: series of discussions, have mutually agreed to part ways. And UH,
- 4:12Speaker 7: for me, this is a day of you know, gratitude
- 4:15Speaker 7: and celebration.
- 4:17Speaker 8: Start with Robert and his family. It's great, so much.
- 4:22Speaker 7: Thanks for the opportunity to to be a coach here
- 4:24Speaker 7: for twenty four years. It's an amazing opportunity, received tremendous support.
- 4:30Speaker 7: We had a vision of you know, billing and winner,
- 4:32Speaker 7: building championship football team here and uh, that's exceeded, exceeded
- 4:36Speaker 7: my my wildest dreams and expectations.
- 4:40Speaker 8: Uh, the amount of success that we were able.
- 4:42Speaker 7: To achieve together, you know, through a lot of hard
- 4:44Speaker 7: work and you know, contributions to so many people.
- 4:48Speaker 8: So I'm very proud of that, and.
- 4:50Speaker 7: And I always had those those great memories. O carry
- 4:54Speaker 7: with those those with me the rest of my life.
- 4:57Speaker 7: And of course after you know, Robert, thanks to the
- 5:01Speaker 7: assistant coaches. You know, I've had so many great coaches here. Uh,
- 5:05Speaker 7: They've made my job so much easier. It's a long list,
- 5:09Speaker 7: but you know the amount of work, preparation and diligence
- 5:12Speaker 7: that they do, every one of them. And I say
- 5:16Speaker 7: this about the players and the coaches regardless of how
- 5:18Speaker 7: long they were here, how many years every year, I'm
- 5:20Speaker 7: many years they coach of what the position was, you know,
- 5:23Speaker 7: it was a great team effort and everybody you know,
- 5:25Speaker 7: put everything they had into it and and that's why
- 5:28Speaker 7: we were successful. So the coaches, the supports staff, it's
- 5:33Speaker 7: amazing staff here that that supported me in every way,
- 5:38Speaker 7: all the scouting and all the football support people from
- 5:41Speaker 7: equipment training, uh, security, video operations.
- 5:48Speaker 8: And so forth, right and down the line, dining, room.
- 5:50Speaker 7: I mean, it's all, it's all first class, it's all,
- 5:52Speaker 7: you know, extremely extremely good, and you know, specially thanks
- 5:57Speaker 7: to Bears and Nancy. They've been here since day one
- 5:59Speaker 7: and you know, made my life a lot easier or
- 6:02Speaker 7: I've made there's a.
- 6:02Speaker 8: Lot harder, however you want to look at it.
- 6:06Speaker 7: But that's you know, a big shout out to them,
- 6:09Speaker 7: and of course a great, great deal thanks and appreciation
- 6:12Speaker 7: of the players. Players win games in the NFL, and
- 6:15Speaker 7: I've been very, very fortunate to coach some of the
- 6:17Speaker 7: greatest players that have ever played, some of the greatest
- 6:20Speaker 7: players that have ever played for the Patriots, some of.
- 6:21Speaker 8: Them already in the Hall of Fame, many more are going.
- 6:25Speaker 7: But again, regardless of how long any of the players
- 6:27Speaker 7: were weren't here, what their role was, or or how
- 6:30Speaker 7: many games they played, or even if they didn't win championships,
- 6:35Speaker 7: you know, I respect the way the players come to
- 6:36Speaker 7: work here on a daily basis, all of them I've coached,
- 6:39Speaker 7: you know, well over a thousand, but their their ability
- 6:43Speaker 7: to work, prepare, train, you know in the weight room.
- 6:49Speaker 7: You know, train their bodies, meet, rehearse over and over again.
- 6:54Speaker 8: You know what we need to do. Things right to
- 6:56Speaker 8: be successful, to win. It's just I have so much.
- 6:59Speaker 7: Respectful all the players and certainly we've had you know,
- 7:03Speaker 7: many that have been here for a long time and
- 7:05Speaker 7: you know had great contributions and and uh, too many
- 7:08Speaker 7: to name at this time, but you know, great thanks
- 7:11Speaker 7: to the players and.
- 7:14Speaker 8: To the media for you guys.
- 7:15Speaker 7: I don't know that anybody's gotten more coverage than uh
- 7:18Speaker 7: than I have or we have in the playast twenty
- 7:20Speaker 7: four years. You know, meet with you guys. A lot
- 7:23Speaker 7: of respect what you do. You know, you're a voice
- 7:26Speaker 7: to the fans. And even though we don't always see
- 7:29Speaker 7: eye all the time.
- 7:31Speaker 8: Most of the time but not all the time, I
- 7:34Speaker 8: do respect what you do. And and uh.
- 7:37Speaker 7: And finally to the fans. You know, the fans are amazing.
- 7:42Speaker 7: You know, there's so many memories of the fans, the
- 7:45Speaker 7: the send offs, the parades, the Sundays, you know, whatever,
- 7:51Speaker 7: the whatever the situations are, the letters to support uh,
- 7:55Speaker 7: the you know, seeing the fans you know away from here,
- 7:58Speaker 7: you know, to gas station, sare orcery store or you
- 8:01Speaker 7: know where she bumped into them. Patriot fans here and
- 8:04Speaker 7: not just in New England, but uh, they extend nationally
- 8:07Speaker 7: and even internationally as I've traveled, it's amazing how far
- 8:10Speaker 7: the the arm reaches. We saw that this year in Germany.
- 8:13Speaker 7: So uh so appreciative the fans for all the support
- 8:16Speaker 7: they've given me, uh, my family in this football team,
- 8:19Speaker 7: and uh it's with so many fond memories and thoughts
- 8:24Speaker 7: that I, you know, think about the Patriots and and
- 8:27Speaker 7: always be a Patriot. I look forward to coming back here,
- 8:30Speaker 7: but at this.
- 8:31Speaker 8: Time, uh, you know, we're gonna we're gonna.
- 8:35Speaker 7: Move on, and I look forward, excited for the future,
- 8:39Speaker 7: but always very very appreciative of the opportunity here, the
- 8:43Speaker 7: support here.
- 8:44Speaker 8: Uh and you know the what Robert You've done for me.
- 8:48Speaker 9: Thank you, m.
- 8:53Speaker 10: H, thank you Bill. Good afternoon everyone. And as Bill
- 9:04Speaker 10: mentioned yesterday, we met and mutually agreed to part ways
- 9:11Speaker 10: amicably and like a good marriage, a successful head coach
- 9:18Speaker 10: owner a relationship requires a lot of hard work, and
- 9:24Speaker 10: I'm very proud that our partnership lasted for twenty four years.
- 9:29Speaker 10: I don't think in the NFL there's been any other
- 9:32Speaker 10: partnership that lasted longer and has been as productive as ours.
- 9:39Speaker 10: I trusted my instincts to bring Bill back to New
- 9:42Speaker 10: England in two thousand, after immediately regretting not hiring m
- 9:48Speaker 10: after working with him together in nineteen ninety six. When
- 9:54Speaker 10: I did hire him, I was still making the transition
- 9:59Speaker 10: from the fa men who bought season tickets in seventy one,
- 10:03Speaker 10: sitting on the metal benches in the old Foxboro Stadium
- 10:07Speaker 10: with my boys to try to become an experienced owner.
- 10:13Speaker 10: Bill has taught me a lot over those years, and
- 10:16Speaker 10: we had high expectations for.
- 10:19Speaker 9: What we could achieve together.
- 10:22Speaker 10: I think we were the only ones who had those expectations,
- 10:26Speaker 10: and I think it's I think it's safe to say
- 10:30Speaker 10: we exceeded them.
- 10:33Speaker 9: Thanks to you.
- 10:36Speaker 10: It's hard to put into words, really when I think
- 10:39Speaker 10: back to sitting on those metal benches and that we'd
- 10:44Speaker 10: have an opportunity to go to ten Super Bowls together
- 10:48Speaker 10: and bring six Lombardi Trophies home to Massachusetts. At heart,
- 10:56Speaker 10: I will always be a sentimental sports fan, So this
- 11:00Speaker 10: is a very emotional day for me. Some of my
- 11:05Speaker 10: happiest and most memorable moments were celebrated with my family
- 11:11Speaker 10: during Bill's tenure here. I recognize that it also is
- 11:17Speaker 10: a very emotional day for many of our fans, and
- 11:21Speaker 10: most of our fans as it represents the end of
- 11:25Speaker 10: an era, one that hopefully will always be celebrated.
- 11:31Speaker 9: In this region.
- 11:32Speaker 10: The man standing to my left brought the leadership and
- 11:36Speaker 10: coaching skills that were needed to make this type of
- 11:42Speaker 10: unprecedented success that we have had possible. Coach Belichick will
- 11:48Speaker 10: forever be celebrated as a legendary sports icon here in
- 11:54Speaker 10: New England, and I believe go in as a Pro
- 11:57Speaker 10: Football Hall of Famer the first ballot. Why because he
- 12:03Speaker 10: is the greatest coach of all times, which makes this
- 12:08Speaker 10: decision to part ways so hard. But this is a
- 12:14Speaker 10: move that we mutually agreed that is needed at this time.
- 12:21Speaker 10: What Bill accomplished with us, in my opinion, will never
- 12:25Speaker 10: be replicated, and the fact that it was done in
- 12:29Speaker 10: the salary cap and free agency era makes it even
- 12:33Speaker 10: more extraordinary. I thank Coach Bill for his hard work
- 12:39Speaker 10: and dedication. It'll be difficult to see him in a
- 12:44Speaker 10: cutoff hoodie on the sideline, but I will always continue
- 12:50Speaker 10: to wish him continue to success, except when he's playing
- 12:55Speaker 10: our beloved Patriots, though, I thank you for coming here
- 13:01Speaker 10: today and being part of this UH celebration.
- 13:08Speaker 11: Thank you.
- 13:09Speaker 8: Thanks Vor.
- 13:10Speaker 9: He's got a cold, so I'm not going to kiss him, thank.
- 13:14Speaker 5: You, all right.
- 13:32Speaker 2: I think what we just witnessed were two people who
- 13:36Speaker 2: are smart, realistic and understood what just happened over the
- 13:43Speaker 2: last twenty four years and realized that there's no reason to,
- 13:48Speaker 2: you know, like make this more complicated than it is.
- 13:51Speaker 2: And they realized that they had an unprecedented run. It'll
- 13:56Speaker 2: probably never be replicated, but for both sides, the time
- 14:00Speaker 2: had come and I think we you know, we we
- 14:04Speaker 2: just witnessed that, and you wish him well. One thing
- 14:10Speaker 2: that I you know, like Craft kind of assumes that
- 14:14Speaker 2: he's going to be coaching somewhere. You know, it's like,
- 14:16Speaker 2: do we know something here that he's going to be
- 14:18Speaker 2: on the sideline with someone else? Like nothing's been announced obviously,
- 14:22Speaker 2: but I guess maybe he knows something.
- 14:26Speaker 5: I thought that was interesting that just kind of nods too,
- 14:28Speaker 5: he's probably gonna go somewhere else. Yeah, a lot to impact,
- 14:32Speaker 5: but I think, you know, just as far as the organization,
- 14:34Speaker 5: I think that's what they needed is that, you know,
- 14:35Speaker 5: there was a lot of mutually amicably those words being
- 14:39Speaker 5: said that you know, there's no reason to focus on
- 14:41Speaker 5: why it went wrong. It's it's time to focus on
- 14:43Speaker 5: what went right, and you know, I think it'll be
- 14:46Speaker 5: interesting to see just in you know, whenever Robert takes
- 14:48Speaker 5: the stage again, what he kind of gets.
- 14:49Speaker 9: Hit with him.
- 14:50Speaker 6: I give Bill a lot of credit for doing that. Absolutely,
- 14:53Speaker 6: do give him a lot of credit for doing that.
- 14:55Speaker 6: That's not easy because you listen to all of the
- 14:58Speaker 6: verbal bouquets that thrown his way, that Robert is throwing
- 15:01Speaker 6: his way, and then he's telling you that this was
- 15:05Speaker 6: a very difficult decision to part ways with the greatest
- 15:07Speaker 6: coach of all time. You know, there's a very very
- 15:12Speaker 6: logical Rebut then why, And I think Fred's right. I
- 15:16Speaker 6: think that both sides sort of came to an understanding
- 15:19Speaker 6: that it was time. And I give Bill a lot
- 15:23Speaker 6: of credit for standing next to Robert, you know, presenting
- 15:25Speaker 6: a united front, talking about mutually agreeing to be amicable.
- 15:30Speaker 6: And I think there's never an easy way. There's never
- 15:33Speaker 6: a perfect way to have something come to an end.
- 15:36Speaker 6: But that was pretty close. That was pretty good. Yeah,
- 15:38Speaker 6: I think I think both sides. I mean, we'll find
- 15:41Speaker 6: out because things are gonna things are going to happen
- 15:43Speaker 6: over the coming you know, days, weeks, and in years,
- 15:47Speaker 6: but in terms of today. Very difficult thing to do.
- 15:51Speaker 6: I thought they navigated it pretty well. I don't know
- 15:53Speaker 6: how you guys felt. I mean, that's that's how I know.
- 15:55Speaker 1: I think.
- 15:56Speaker 2: I think it couldn't have been better for both sides,
- 16:01Speaker 2: you know, regardless of what happens in the future, for
- 16:04Speaker 2: Bill Belichick or Robert Kraft, this has got to be tough.
- 16:07Speaker 2: You know, even if you know, oh, I've got a
- 16:09Speaker 2: coach lined up and he's gonna be great, or Bill
- 16:11Speaker 2: knows I've got my next thing lined up and that's
- 16:14Speaker 2: gonna be great, it's still tough to say goodbye to
- 16:17Speaker 2: something that you built and was the greatest ever, you know,
- 16:21Speaker 2: the greatest amount of achievement ever. You know, you're walking
- 16:25Speaker 2: away from that. And you know, like Paul said, the
- 16:29Speaker 2: fact that Bill was able to stand up there, Robert
- 16:33Speaker 2: was able to stand up there and be mature, realistic
- 16:37Speaker 2: human beings about this, I think is really a testament
- 16:41Speaker 2: to both of them, you know, and Evan joins us
- 16:45Speaker 2: you were there.
- 16:45Speaker 12: I was there.
- 16:46Speaker 13: Yeah, Yeah, what you just said is exactly what I
- 16:49Speaker 13: was just thinking walking over here, was just how great
- 16:53Speaker 13: it is for everybody fans, you know, obviously people in
- 16:58Speaker 13: the team, us that cover the team. To have the
- 17:02Speaker 13: two of them stand up there basically almost like hand
- 17:05Speaker 13: in hand and say, you know, this is this is
- 17:08Speaker 13: just what's best. You know, it's time, it's time, and
- 17:11Speaker 13: the you know, reading between the lines, I kind of
- 17:15Speaker 13: felt like, Bill just isn't what the Patriots need anymore.
- 17:19Speaker 13: You know, the Patriots need something different. They need probably
- 17:23Speaker 13: a younger, fresher start, and they need a rebuild. Yeah,
- 17:27Speaker 13: and a seventy one year old man rebuilding the Patriots
- 17:31Speaker 13: right now is just not what's in the best interest
- 17:34Speaker 13: of the team. And I think both of them recognized that.
- 17:38Speaker 13: And I wasn't sure if if Bill would recognize that.
- 17:41Speaker 6: Frankly, right, Yeah, That's why I give them a lot
- 17:43Speaker 6: of credit.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Hard to admit that, you know, the time has come.
- 17:46Speaker 1: I think for Patriots fans, this is what we needed.
- 17:50Speaker 1: We needed that.
- 17:51Speaker 2: I know, Paul, you know, your shows would rather have
- 17:54Speaker 2: the you know, the back and forth and the drama
- 17:58Speaker 2: and everything.
- 17:58Speaker 1: Like this, But for Patriots Nation, this is what we needed.
- 18:03Speaker 5: Yeah, I thought. I mean I almost sense a little
- 18:04Speaker 5: bit of emotion in Bill's voice talking about the fans
- 18:08Speaker 5: there that.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Bill, I don't know how he kept from blubbering. Yeah,
- 18:12Speaker 1: I mean, how could you not you know.
- 18:14Speaker 12: Like he was choked up. Yeah for sure.
- 18:17Speaker 5: Yeah, it's not something you see. But I think just
- 18:19Speaker 5: to what you know, you said we talked about, there's
- 18:21Speaker 5: just there's such a familiarity and he's been here for
- 18:23Speaker 5: so long, and it's it's it's so hard to just
- 18:25Speaker 5: you know, move on from something like that when you've
- 18:27Speaker 5: been in one place since so much is set and
- 18:29Speaker 5: now their problems. Sure, and this was part of what
- 18:31Speaker 5: we talked about in the lead up to this of
- 18:34Speaker 5: it takes, it takes it. It's a really hard decision
- 18:36Speaker 5: to unpack yourself from that and and really start over
- 18:38Speaker 5: with the whole program. I mean, that's you know what
- 18:40Speaker 5: they're looking at. They're going to bring in a whole
- 18:42Speaker 5: new staff that's gonna completely change the dynamic in this place.
- 18:45Speaker 5: And you know, it's it's it's just it'll be hard, uh,
- 18:48Speaker 5: you know, not looking back seeing Bill and you know
- 18:50Speaker 5: everything that he did here and and now someone's new
- 18:52Speaker 5: is going to get a chance.
- 18:52Speaker 12: So yeah, it's crazy to think that.
- 18:57Speaker 13: I will no longer be covering Bill bell Check as
- 19:00Speaker 13: the head coach at the Patriots. Like that's no longer
- 19:03Speaker 13: going to be who we see it on a nine
- 19:06Speaker 13: to fifteen on Wednesday morning, you know, every week during
- 19:09Speaker 13: the season. And I get that part of it. I
- 19:12Speaker 13: don't think is fully sunk in yet for me that
- 19:15Speaker 13: this is really going to be a totally new thing.
- 19:18Speaker 12: And uh, you know, and I saw the news this morning.
- 19:21Speaker 13: My first reaction was obviously, well, I better get up right,
- 19:24Speaker 13: like in get moving. So my second, you know, once
- 19:26Speaker 13: I got here to the building, you definitely felt like
- 19:29Speaker 13: a more of like, wow, this is real, like, you know,
- 19:33Speaker 13: they really just are moving on from Bill.
- 19:35Speaker 2: It was kind of quiet this morning. There were a
- 19:37Speaker 2: lot of people here, but everyone was kind of just quiet.
- 19:40Speaker 5: Yeah, there was a.
- 19:41Speaker 6: Lot of like like busyness because of the gravity of
- 19:46Speaker 6: the day. But but I agree with Fred, it was
- 19:49Speaker 6: kind of a I don't want to say eerie, but
- 19:51Speaker 6: it was kind of quiet, you know. Yeah. Yeah, somber
- 19:57Speaker 6: good mood, good good work, good mood. Yeah, it was.
- 20:01Speaker 6: It was different. I you know, back to Bill, you know,
- 20:04Speaker 6: I really happy that he sort of recognized, you know,
- 20:09Speaker 6: like the cheesy stuff that we were saying, like, you know,
- 20:12Speaker 6: don't cry that it's over, you know, smile because it happened,
- 20:15Speaker 6: you know, And Bill's talking about, you know, the expectations
- 20:18Speaker 6: that he and Robert had and they exceeded them, and
- 20:20Speaker 6: how very proud he was of that, you know, and
- 20:23Speaker 6: you know some of those things about you know, thanking
- 20:25Speaker 6: Robert for all the support that he received from him.
- 20:27Speaker 6: So it's not like thinking about, you know, the handful
- 20:31Speaker 6: of times and I'm sure there's more than a handful
- 20:33Speaker 6: over twenty four years where he didn't get what he
- 20:35Speaker 6: wanted and you know, he thought that X could help
- 20:38Speaker 6: them and they didn't get it, you know, But rather
- 20:40Speaker 6: than focus on that, he focused on all the things
- 20:44Speaker 6: that that went right over those twenty four years. And
- 20:47Speaker 6: I thought that was like that That's where I heard
- 20:49Speaker 6: the emotion in Bill's voice.
- 20:50Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, I just think the thing about having
- 20:53Speaker 5: to see him in another hoodie and facing him that
- 20:55Speaker 5: just I was surprised. That was the only thing looking
- 20:58Speaker 5: a little bit at.
- 20:58Speaker 6: The Atlanta Hoodie situation study up man.
- 21:03Speaker 2: Yeah, the only thing that disappointed me was no shout
- 21:06Speaker 2: out to Deuce.
- 21:08Speaker 5: But those who keep track of what I wore, Yeah, no, no,
- 21:11Speaker 5: but hey got on today.
- 21:13Speaker 6: I mean, so, Evan, you were in the in the auditorium.
- 21:15Speaker 6: We were we were watching here. I think there were
- 21:19Speaker 6: some coaches around, some some of the assistants.
- 21:23Speaker 12: Yeah, so Josh McDaniels was here.
- 21:26Speaker 6: Yeah, I knew that.
- 21:27Speaker 12: And he was.
- 21:27Speaker 13: Sitting in the in the back of the room with
- 21:31Speaker 13: football people from the Patriots. So, you know, any given
- 21:35Speaker 13: Sunday when all the coaches are like in the.
- 21:36Speaker 6: Back, someone put on Twitter today I saw that.
- 21:39Speaker 13: That was kind of what I was thinking, was like, so,
- 21:42Speaker 13: so Josh is going with him wherever he goes next.
- 21:45Speaker 13: I think that that some people and myself included, wondered
- 21:49Speaker 13: if Josh would come back here, you know, with a Geradmeo,
- 21:52Speaker 13: with a Mike Rabel, you know, something like that. I
- 21:55Speaker 13: think based off of the the vibe in the room
- 21:58Speaker 13: and watching Josh can go with Bill's people, I think
- 22:03Speaker 13: it's pretty clear that that Josh is gonna be following
- 22:06Speaker 13: Bill to the next stop, if anywhere, you know, interesting
- 22:10Speaker 13: and maybe he's the Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator next year
- 22:15Speaker 13: or whatever the case may be. So it was it
- 22:19Speaker 13: was a surreal press conference, Like I don't I really
- 22:22Speaker 13: feel like it hasn't set in that, you know, we
- 22:26Speaker 13: were there and I just experienced that because that is
- 22:29Speaker 13: really is surreal to watch the end of it, you know,
- 22:33Speaker 13: the greatest run in the history of sports.
- 22:36Speaker 2: Yeah, so the rundown is, uh, you know, we're gonna
- 22:39Speaker 2: have the show like we always do.
- 22:40Speaker 1: We'll have our picks.
- 22:42Speaker 2: So we're still gonna hurry, but we're gonna keep going
- 22:45Speaker 2: because at two o'clock at least right now, it's scheduled
- 22:48Speaker 2: for Robert Craft to have another press conference in which
- 22:51Speaker 2: he will take questions. And that's gonna be interesting because
- 22:57Speaker 2: who's going to be the GM? How many coaches are
- 22:59Speaker 2: staying who's.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Going to be the coach?
- 23:01Speaker 6: What's the structure?
- 23:02Speaker 1: What's the structure?
- 23:03Speaker 6: Is it a GM right over a coach? Is it
- 23:06Speaker 6: the coach with the final say? Is it?
- 23:07Speaker 12: Yeah? That's the biggest collaborative.
- 23:09Speaker 1: And so I hope that he has some answers.
- 23:11Speaker 2: I hope it's not like, well, we're gonna think about that,
- 23:14Speaker 2: and you know, I hope that there's some answers already.
- 23:19Speaker 5: I'm not anticipating it, though, I know. I just I
- 23:21Speaker 5: feel like today is going to be about saying goodbye
- 23:23Speaker 5: and not you know, we'll get to all those things
- 23:25Speaker 5: like that's kind of what I'm.
- 23:26Speaker 6: In Oh yeah, he's gonna get questions.
- 23:28Speaker 5: You know, why didn't it work?
- 23:29Speaker 6: You know, why didn't Why did you feel like it's time?
- 23:31Speaker 6: You know why? You know, why do why was it
- 23:33Speaker 6: time to make a move? You said yourself, greatest coach
- 23:36Speaker 6: of all He'll get some of those questions too, But
- 23:38Speaker 6: I'm more interested, like like Evan in what what now? Yeah,
- 23:43Speaker 6: you know, what's the structure? How are you going to
- 23:45Speaker 6: set this up? And what is the plan?
- 23:46Speaker 5: Yeah, because I mean all the other teams are are
- 23:48Speaker 5: jumping on it. You know, they're already conducting interviews and everything.
- 23:51Speaker 5: So I mean.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Yesterday was a momentous day. I mean Nick Saban retiring,
- 23:55Speaker 2: Pete Carroll being kind of pushed upstairs similar to what
- 23:59Speaker 2: they did with Bruce Arians at Tampa. You know, those
- 24:03Speaker 2: are two big hole, two big vacuums now in the
- 24:07Speaker 2: league that we're unexpected.
- 24:11Speaker 1: And of course Vrabel already was fired.
- 24:14Speaker 2: So there's a lot to come, uh, you know going forward,
- 24:19Speaker 2: and you know, who knows what could happen with the
- 24:21Speaker 2: playoff teams.
- 24:22Speaker 1: You know, like if the Dallas is won and done,
- 24:25Speaker 1: that could be the end of.
- 24:26Speaker 6: The Philly Buffalo Dallas. Yeah, like those are all teams
- 24:30Speaker 6: that are pretty good that who knows what happens if
- 24:33Speaker 6: they get bumped out quickly.
- 24:35Speaker 5: Yeah, So what a big white whale though, for these
- 24:38Speaker 5: teams to go get Bill Belichick right now? I mean,
- 24:40Speaker 5: I imagine there's there's a few teams that are saying,
- 24:43Speaker 5: this is just what we need. And you know, I know,
- 24:45Speaker 5: I'm sure everyone's aware that Bill's going to come with
- 24:47Speaker 5: a whole thing and a whole program that you know
- 24:49Speaker 5: that he's going to install. But at the same time,
- 24:51Speaker 5: there's you know, for many teams, I think its just
- 24:54Speaker 5: it will totally change that dynamic of what their team is,
- 24:57Speaker 5: what people think their team is, and you know, to
- 25:00Speaker 5: be honest, I mean, I was interested to see how
- 25:02Speaker 5: Brady would do outside of this. I'm interested to see
- 25:05Speaker 5: how Bill does implementing his own system into another place
- 25:07Speaker 5: at this point where he might not have the time
- 25:10Speaker 5: to set up infrastructure for the next decade. I mean,
- 25:12Speaker 5: it's got to happen quick. He's got to move.
- 25:14Speaker 2: The same way we followed Brady to Tampa Bay will
- 25:17Speaker 2: be following NFC South.
- 25:19Speaker 9: Just go.
- 25:20Speaker 6: The similarities are kind of eerie. Yeah, you know, because
- 25:23Speaker 6: a lot of people felt like Tampa was you know,
- 25:27Speaker 6: a decent roster in a weak division and a quarterback away,
- 25:31Speaker 6: and a lot of people feel that way about Atlanta.
- 25:33Speaker 5: You feel like Steve, Steven and Brian probably go, Josh,
- 25:38Speaker 5: will it be the whole staff though, that's what Alex.
- 25:40Speaker 6: Will you be accompanying Bill when he goes to Atlanta?
- 25:44Speaker 6: If if, in fact it's Atlanta.
- 25:47Speaker 14: I'm not planning on it.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Alex, you were in the room, I was what was
- 25:51Speaker 2: your impression?
- 25:53Speaker 15: It was kind of an eerie feeling in there. I
- 25:55Speaker 15: think I was trying to figure out if Bill's voice
- 25:58Speaker 15: was cracking because he was a little motional, like the
- 26:00Speaker 15: cold was wing.
- 26:01Speaker 1: We think it was.
- 26:02Speaker 15: I think so too, especially there's a part where you
- 26:04Speaker 15: addressed the fans.
- 26:05Speaker 5: Yeah, that part.
- 26:06Speaker 15: Yeah, I can't lie. I'm in my feels right now.
- 26:09Speaker 15: I didn't expect I don't know. I'm shocked, even though
- 26:12Speaker 15: like we kind of thought it was going to come,
- 26:14Speaker 15: but it's it's like an anticipated shock that I can't
- 26:17Speaker 15: really explain.
- 26:18Speaker 1: Right when it happens, it's still yeah, weird.
- 26:22Speaker 13: Yeah, so eerie is a good way to describe it.
- 26:26Speaker 12: Yeah, it was very just.
- 26:30Speaker 13: Eerie, awkward, kind of just uncertain, right, like just a
- 26:35Speaker 13: very weird vibe.
- 26:36Speaker 5: It's how the show feels right now, like we all
- 26:37Speaker 5: feel like we're kind of like we've kind of been
- 26:39Speaker 5: talking about this happening for a long time, and now
- 26:41Speaker 5: that it's finally happened, it's it's hard to really put
- 26:43Speaker 5: into words what you're feeling. And you know, one part
- 26:46Speaker 5: is is, oh my gosh, I can't believe it's over
- 26:48Speaker 5: and all the amazing stuff that that he did here,
- 26:50Speaker 5: And there's admittedly part that's looking the next week and
- 26:52Speaker 5: being like okay, like yeah, we're going to have a
- 26:55Speaker 5: whole new set of things to tackle now with you just.
- 26:57Speaker 2: Feel like we should, okay, we should start talking about
- 26:59Speaker 2: what's but you feel the same way.
- 27:01Speaker 1: You feel like you need a moment.
- 27:03Speaker 6: Yeah, right, That's like Evan said, like I can't believe
- 27:06Speaker 6: we're not going to be doing like nine point fifteen
- 27:08Speaker 6: Bill belt, Like it's been so long since I've even
- 27:10Speaker 6: called it a press conference. I always just say what
- 27:12Speaker 6: times Bill?
- 27:13Speaker 16: Right?
- 27:14Speaker 6: What times Bill? You know?
- 27:16Speaker 9: When?
- 27:16Speaker 6: Did is Bill done? Has Bill gone yet? Like that
- 27:20Speaker 6: That's how that's the vernacular in the building. Has Bill
- 27:23Speaker 6: gone yet? Is Bill done? What time is Bill? And
- 27:26Speaker 6: now somebody's surface of.
- 27:28Speaker 15: The stuff that could potentially change. Oh yeah, all the
- 27:33Speaker 15: how even how we do things.
- 27:35Speaker 14: I don't know.
- 27:35Speaker 13: Just yeah, I mean, like in my household, I'm not
- 27:38Speaker 13: going to get asked, you know what, time's William tomorrow anymore.
- 27:40Speaker 13: It's just going to bed Mayo. I guess I don't know,
- 27:45Speaker 13: you know, I guess we'll see. But that part of
- 27:47Speaker 13: it is absolutely still surreal that it's really it's really
- 27:52Speaker 13: come to an end. And it almost felt like both
- 27:55Speaker 13: of them, like I said earlier, like it needed to happen,
- 27:58Speaker 13: like they really feel bold. I think felt that it
- 28:01Speaker 13: needed to go this way.
- 28:03Speaker 5: Yeah, especially Robert. I think for him, I think this
- 28:06Speaker 5: was what he did for the organization to have a
- 28:08Speaker 5: united Front come out and you know, it's it's mutual,
- 28:11Speaker 5: there's not going to be I think I think there
- 28:14Speaker 5: was a scary narrative of he pushed out Bill, you know,
- 28:17Speaker 5: and then then they pushed out Tom and I don't think.
- 28:19Speaker 5: I think I think now that you know, nips it
- 28:21Speaker 5: in the butt a little bit. So there are some
- 28:22Speaker 5: people that will continue to.
- 28:23Speaker 1: I think so.
- 28:24Speaker 2: But I think you're still going to get that, Yeah,
- 28:26Speaker 2: you're still gonna get that. But I can't stress enough.
- 28:29Speaker 2: How adult a scene we just saw? Yeah, yeah, two
- 28:33Speaker 2: realistic adults parting ways.
- 28:37Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 28:38Speaker 6: Yeah, let's hope it stays that way.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, because you got June twelfth coming up.
- 28:43Speaker 5: Well yeah, I mean, and you also have the the
- 28:46Speaker 5: Dynasty documentary, which I think will kind of it comes
- 28:49Speaker 5: at an interesting time, right after this breakup, and you're
- 28:51Speaker 5: gonna get you know, I mean, we've already seen some
- 28:53Speaker 5: clips of it of you know, Danny Amadola saying we
- 28:56Speaker 5: played for Tom, we worked for Bill, you know, those
- 28:59Speaker 5: like those kind of things. I'm sure that's just the
- 29:00Speaker 5: tip of the iceberg. And I mean, what is it.
- 29:02Speaker 5: How many episodes? Is like twelve episodes or something? Crazy
- 29:04Speaker 5: had ten episodes, So you know, it's just interesting that
- 29:07Speaker 5: comes right on the heel of this, and then there's
- 29:08Speaker 5: gonna be a whole new kind of round of retrospection
- 29:11Speaker 5: on that whole run.
- 29:13Speaker 6: I'm thinking there's going to be at least eleven episodes now,
- 29:15Speaker 6: Like there needs to be an epilogue, it needs to
- 29:18Speaker 6: be something.
- 29:19Speaker 5: Yeah, why why why it went wrong? You know, I
- 29:22Speaker 5: mean I think it was. I mean, I think everybody's
- 29:24Speaker 5: going to try to point to one or two things
- 29:25Speaker 5: but it's just it's the tonnage of so much, you know,
- 29:28Speaker 5: the departure of Brady, the you know, the misdraft picks,
- 29:31Speaker 5: the you know, just it kind of was strange how
- 29:35Speaker 5: it slowly kind of fell apart, you know, and especially
- 29:38Speaker 5: even like something like the special teams, which is I mean,
- 29:40Speaker 5: it sounds silly, but it's just something we always talked about,
- 29:43Speaker 5: and then for even that part of the team to
- 29:44Speaker 5: kind of fall apart and be, you know, two years
- 29:47Speaker 5: in a row terrible and you know, making plays that
- 29:50Speaker 5: I mean, we're used to those those special teams making
- 29:52Speaker 5: plays to win game. Now they're you know, making plays
- 29:54Speaker 5: that that consistently hurt you in every single game. So
- 29:57Speaker 5: it was yeah, you know for the people that just
- 29:58Speaker 5: look at it and are like, oh, this is you know,
- 30:00Speaker 5: the media pushing Bill out, it's like, have you been
- 30:02Speaker 5: watching these games? Like this team is you know, it's
- 30:05Speaker 5: kind of fallen apart. It doesn't really stand for what
- 30:07Speaker 5: we all believed it did stand for at a certain time.
- 30:09Speaker 5: It's much different now.
- 30:11Speaker 13: He built a culture here and I think, like, especially me,
- 30:16Speaker 13: get so involved in the x's and o's and what's
- 30:18Speaker 13: going on on the field. But I think in a
- 30:20Speaker 13: lot of ways, like a lot of the things that
- 30:22Speaker 13: you're speaking to are just the fact that the culture
- 30:25Speaker 13: had gone stale, like the atmosphere, the mood around the team,
- 30:30Speaker 13: the whole just infrastructure that they had built. It had
- 30:35Speaker 13: just run its course. It had just gone stale. And
- 30:38Speaker 13: I don't think that there there was no The only
- 30:41Speaker 13: thing that was tying them back to the days that
- 30:44Speaker 13: you're talking about when things were dominant were guys like Slater,
- 30:48Speaker 13: David Andrews and those guys saying, well, back in my
- 30:51Speaker 13: day when we won six Super Bowls, and it's like that,
- 30:54Speaker 13: it wasn't that day anymore like they and it wasn't
- 30:58Speaker 13: just the feeling was just so different.
- 31:00Speaker 2: You know, history teaches us that, you know, whether it's
- 31:03Speaker 2: a dynasty or an empire or whatever, they don't just
- 31:07Speaker 2: like go away overnight. Their collapse is a culmination of many, many,
- 31:11Speaker 2: many many things over time. Yeah, you know, and I
- 31:15Speaker 2: think that's kind of what we saw here. But you know, well,
- 31:20Speaker 2: I'm sure the stories will come out in the next
- 31:23Speaker 2: you know, well in the months to come about what
- 31:25Speaker 2: the divisions were. And I'm sure there were divisions. I'm
- 31:28Speaker 2: sure there were times where each of these men despised
- 31:31Speaker 2: each other, but again they're mature enough and realistic enough
- 31:36Speaker 2: to understand what they built together, that they did it together,
- 31:41Speaker 2: and they appreciate that, and they appreciate each other. And
- 31:45Speaker 2: like I said, this is the way, this is the
- 31:47Speaker 2: best case scenario for Patriots fans.
- 31:50Speaker 5: Yeah. I just I wonder if this is as nice
- 31:52Speaker 5: as it gets right now, because in the coming weeks
- 31:55Speaker 5: is you know, and you're already seeing some of some
- 31:57Speaker 5: of the reports of you know, Bill, you know, I
- 31:59Speaker 5: think it was Tom Cerah reporting that you know, he
- 32:01Speaker 5: felt like the ownership was getting into things a little
- 32:04Speaker 5: bit too much. I mean, we can talk about that,
- 32:05Speaker 5: but you know, for right now, I think it ended.
- 32:08Speaker 5: It ended really well. But you just can't help but
- 32:10Speaker 5: think what's next.
- 32:11Speaker 2: Yeah, And I give you know, so much credit for
- 32:14Speaker 2: Robbert Craft. You know, his diplomacy shines in times like
- 32:20Speaker 2: this and over the twenty years of keeping Bill and
- 32:24Speaker 2: Tom at bay. That's not easy to do. It's not
- 32:28Speaker 2: easy to do when you have two alphas like that.
- 32:32Speaker 2: But he was able to do that. And then I
- 32:34Speaker 2: give so much credit for Bill for keeping the team
- 32:37Speaker 2: together over twenty years. Because I've said it before, it's
- 32:41Speaker 2: just as hard to keep a successful team together as
- 32:44Speaker 2: it is a team that's not doing well. They each
- 32:47Speaker 2: come with their own unique issues, and it's really hard
- 32:52Speaker 2: once you have success to keep people hung you know,
- 32:57Speaker 2: continually hungry year after year and buy in in.
- 33:01Speaker 1: You know, they've got their handout. Where's mine? Now?
- 33:04Speaker 2: We see it with so many teams, But the fact
- 33:07Speaker 2: that they managed that, Bill managed to keep this going
- 33:10Speaker 2: for twenty years is it's unprecedented.
- 33:13Speaker 1: Yeah, unprecedented.
- 33:14Speaker 5: I'd like highlight the period between the nine Ravens playoff
- 33:17Speaker 5: loss to the Woronda Cincinnati, that Kansas City loss and
- 33:20Speaker 5: that kind of little down trough, you know, of of
- 33:24Speaker 5: of where I think a lot of these teams would have.
- 33:27Speaker 6: Closed right among many fourteen many times.
- 33:32Speaker 5: But the defense, you know, the defense had to turn over.
- 33:35Speaker 5: You lost Welker and Boss, that thing faded out. You
- 33:38Speaker 5: didn't know what Edelman was yet you had to go
- 33:39Speaker 5: get Avon Doola, he got hurt. You know that just
- 33:42Speaker 5: that period, it felt like that would have that would
- 33:44Speaker 5: have broken a lot of dynas season, you know, to
- 33:46Speaker 5: be able to push through that, you know, credit to
- 33:48Speaker 5: Tom Brady twenty ten to twenty eleven. Playing out of
- 33:50Speaker 5: his mind and you know, kind of carrying the team
- 33:53Speaker 5: come through that little you know, through that field's true, right,
- 33:55Speaker 5: I mean just twenty ten, I mean, you know, their
- 33:57Speaker 5: defense was terrible, and twenty eleven, I mean, he that
- 34:00Speaker 5: team to the super Bowl. You know, had he gotten
- 34:03Speaker 5: hurt one of those years or had a down year,
- 34:05Speaker 5: it might have ended right there. But you know, they
- 34:07Speaker 5: were He was able to keep them afloat long enough
- 34:09Speaker 5: that they could draft Gronk and develop Cronk and get
- 34:11Speaker 5: Edelman and then they hit on High Tower and Chandler Jones,
- 34:15Speaker 5: who apparently has got a song out there right now,
- 34:18Speaker 5: you know. But that's just a really interesting period to
- 34:20Speaker 5: me that then they got back and you know, as
- 34:22Speaker 5: I was like writing about it, I never thought you'd
- 34:24Speaker 5: get back to like fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen eighteen. I
- 34:27Speaker 5: mean they were not just in the AFC Championship, but
- 34:30Speaker 5: they were in the Super Bowl all those years, you know,
- 34:31Speaker 5: and it was just an unbelievable run to be able
- 34:34Speaker 5: to get back to that point.
- 34:36Speaker 2: Much much much more to come on this show, your
- 34:39Speaker 2: calls and emails Robert Kraft at around two o'clock with
- 34:42Speaker 2: a Q and a press conference our picks. But you know,
- 34:46Speaker 2: let's get people involved because I'm sure everybody has something
- 34:50Speaker 2: that they want to say, and we'll let you say it.
- 34:53Speaker 1: So let's go to Mike in Connecticut. What's up, Mike?
- 34:56Speaker 5: How you guys doing good?
- 34:59Speaker 17: So I was definitely in the camp of we got
- 35:02Speaker 17: to move on from both and I think this is
- 35:04Speaker 17: obviously the right decision, and I think a lot of
- 35:06Speaker 17: people agree with that, but I don't want it to
- 35:07Speaker 17: get lost at Like, words can never express how much
- 35:10Speaker 17: respect and admiration I have for Bill and everything that
- 35:13Speaker 17: he's done. He's the greatest head coach ever, and you
- 35:18Speaker 17: know he helped put the Patriots on the map. But
- 35:20Speaker 17: you know, this was definitely the right move. Those the
- 35:22Speaker 17: moves that have been happening since Tom left, we're just
- 35:26Speaker 17: not going to get you anywhere. You're going in a
- 35:28Speaker 17: downward trend, and it just wasn't it. I wish him
- 35:31Speaker 17: nothing but luck in the next spot. But I'm excited
- 35:34Speaker 17: for the future. And in that regards, do you guys
- 35:38Speaker 17: think that you could get Gerd Mayo to stay on
- 35:40Speaker 17: as a DC if they happened to hire Mike Brabil
- 35:44Speaker 17: as a head coach and if they couldn't, would you
- 35:47Speaker 17: rather them have Mike Brabel as the head coach or
- 35:50Speaker 17: Gerrod Mayo? And I don't take it off by anything.
- 35:51Speaker 2: Okay, thanks, I mean, okay, we're moving on. No listen, Uh,
- 35:58Speaker 2: fans want to talk about the next step.
- 36:00Speaker 1: I understand that. I don't know.
- 36:03Speaker 2: I'm like Paul, you were on your show yesterday and
- 36:06Speaker 2: you got into it with Maserati about so far what
- 36:10Speaker 2: Vrabel has shown as a coach in terms of philosophy.
- 36:14Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, same stuff that we talked about in
- 36:17Speaker 6: this show.
- 36:17Speaker 1: You know, so there's a known thing there he did
- 36:21Speaker 1: Okay as a head coach there I think.
- 36:23Speaker 6: I think he's a good coach.
- 36:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he's a good coach. I think that
- 36:26Speaker 2: team played hard for him. They had a lot of wins,
- 36:29Speaker 2: you know, when they were underdog, you know, and I
- 36:33Speaker 2: give him a lot of credit for that.
- 36:35Speaker 1: But there's something about Okay, Gerrod.
- 36:39Speaker 2: Mayo, let's give it a shot, Like we don't know
- 36:42Speaker 2: how good he's going to be, but you know, why
- 36:45Speaker 2: not give him a try and maybe he could be
- 36:48Speaker 2: the next.
- 36:48Speaker 6: Do you think there's a chance you could have both? Like,
- 36:51Speaker 6: like the college said, Rabel is the head coach in Mayor.
- 36:53Speaker 5: I would love there to be. I would love there
- 36:55Speaker 5: to be. I mean, I'd love to keep you on
- 36:56Speaker 5: and make him the defensive coordinator and really give him
- 36:58Speaker 5: a full promotion at a full title and let the
- 37:00Speaker 5: defense be his and let him call. But I understand that,
- 37:03Speaker 5: you know, he might have been sold something else and
- 37:05Speaker 5: he might be.
- 37:06Speaker 2: Have I'm like, if you're not gonna give me this,
- 37:10Speaker 2: I'm interviewing elsewhere.
- 37:12Speaker 6: Right, But I just I don't seven other jobs open, and.
- 37:15Speaker 5: I can't help but think job Mayo has been in
- 37:17Speaker 5: the league five years as a coach, and he's just
- 37:21Speaker 5: kind of been an outside line and inside linebackers coach.
- 37:23Speaker 5: I mean, we know that he does much more than that.
- 37:25Speaker 5: But it's hard. This is I mean, this is You're
- 37:27Speaker 5: the CEO of a whole program now and everything has
- 37:30Speaker 5: to be determined, and you know, everybody needs to take
- 37:33Speaker 5: that jump at some point, and you know it's it's
- 37:35Speaker 5: never going to be easy.
- 37:36Speaker 6: That's why I would lean Rabela, you know, even though
- 37:38Speaker 6: I argued with you yesterday about it, Mike, Yeah, and
- 37:42Speaker 6: I stand by my reservations for vrabel But the experience
- 37:46Speaker 6: that he has, he is a good head coach. I
- 37:48Speaker 6: think he's proven to be a guy that understands how
- 37:51Speaker 6: to put a program together, how to structure a team.
- 37:54Speaker 6: I don't like necessarily what he emphasizes, and that's how
- 37:58Speaker 6: I feel. You know, Tony really took exception to my
- 38:02Speaker 6: feelings on you know, the lack of offense yesterday, you know,
- 38:06Speaker 6: chalking up to some things that I easily shot down.
- 38:09Speaker 6: But that's what I do. But I do think that
- 38:13Speaker 6: he's a very good coach, and I would lean to
- 38:16Speaker 6: the experience a little more experience. But you know, I'm
- 38:19Speaker 6: a little like Fred too. I don't know what Mayo
- 38:21Speaker 6: in his philosophies are. And all these NBC Sports Boston
- 38:25Speaker 6: guys that know him very well from the time that
- 38:27Speaker 6: they work together, they think that there's a lot more
- 38:31Speaker 6: to him than just being a bill disciple.
- 38:34Speaker 1: I would agree with that, also think that if he
- 38:36Speaker 1: gets it, they'll have an inside track.
- 38:37Speaker 6: Of course, of course, but that's well, why do you
- 38:40Speaker 6: think I like the fact that rabel would be involved.
- 38:42Speaker 6: I feel like I would kind of have a relationship
- 38:45Speaker 6: with the coach too, But it's not it's not about us, right.
- 38:48Speaker 6: I know that everybody listening thinks it is and thinks
- 38:51Speaker 6: people are having a party today because quote, the media
- 38:54Speaker 6: got what they wanted and push Phil, that's not really
- 38:57Speaker 6: what it's about. It's really couldn't be further from the truth.
- 39:00Speaker 13: Yeah, I agree with with the guys if that's what
- 39:04Speaker 13: they're saying about Mayo, that this notion that he's just
- 39:07Speaker 13: Bill two point zero, I think is off off base.
- 39:11Speaker 6: Phil and Tom in particular Phil Perry and Tom Kurran
- 39:14Speaker 6: in particular saying more to him.
- 39:17Speaker 13: I had asked around a you know, in the locker room,
- 39:20Speaker 13: and a lot of guys had had compared. First of all,
- 39:24Speaker 13: the word players, coach came out of everybody's mouth about
- 39:27Speaker 13: your odd Mayo. And then secondly, you know, guys started
- 39:30Speaker 13: comparing him to Demico, Ryans, Mike McDaniel, Antonio Pierce in Vegas,
- 39:36Speaker 13: and some of these younger coaches, some of the guys
- 39:38Speaker 13: that you know, like Ryan's and Pierce who played in
- 39:41Speaker 13: the league and can relate to players a little bit
- 39:43Speaker 13: more and are extensions of the players like I think
- 39:48Speaker 13: that that's more what the players in the current Patriots
- 39:51Speaker 13: locker room think of of Mayo. I think they think
- 39:54Speaker 13: of him in that sort of light of this new
- 39:57Speaker 13: age kind of coach that is more of a player's
- 40:01Speaker 13: coach and is more in tune with the attitudes of
- 40:05Speaker 13: players nowadays. But I do see you and I were
- 40:09Speaker 13: talking about this a little bit yesterday. There's something to
- 40:12Speaker 13: be said for bridging this gap between the Belichick era
- 40:17Speaker 13: and then like the next great Patriots team, and something
- 40:21Speaker 13: to me feels like Rabel might be better suited for that,
- 40:26Speaker 13: just because he still has the experience of building a
- 40:29Speaker 13: program and being a head coach in the league before.
- 40:33Speaker 13: I think that going from Bill Belichick, the greatest head
- 40:36Speaker 13: coach of all time, who has one hundred years of
- 40:38Speaker 13: coaching experience in twenty four coaching years here to somebody
- 40:42Speaker 13: that's never been a head coach before is a really,
- 40:45Speaker 13: really big step.
- 40:47Speaker 2: So now I'll give you the counter two things. When
- 40:50Speaker 2: Richard Seemer was a player, he after every game you
- 40:55Speaker 2: would hear from opposing coaches and play what a force
- 40:58Speaker 2: he's so hard to handle he's but you never see
- 41:01Speaker 2: it in the stat line. You know, for the layman,
- 41:03Speaker 2: it was hard to see, you know, like why he's
- 41:07Speaker 2: so great? Had you heard it though from the people
- 41:10Speaker 2: who went up against him. It's Mayo's kind of the
- 41:13Speaker 2: same way in terms of like his prospects as a coach.
- 41:17Speaker 2: I don't know what he's been doing here, Like he
- 41:20Speaker 2: barely has a title. You really don't know what he's doing.
- 41:23Speaker 2: But people that are close to him say, no, no, no,
- 41:27Speaker 2: he's special.
- 41:28Speaker 1: This guy. He's a leader. People relate to him, he
- 41:31Speaker 1: can relate to them. He's really good. He's he's you know, he.
- 41:35Speaker 2: Has a lot of positive attributes. So that's one thing
- 41:40Speaker 2: on his side. The other thing is, I get what
- 41:43Speaker 2: you're saying about Vrabel and having done it and having
- 41:46Speaker 2: built a pro and all that, but Mayo's also seen
- 41:49Speaker 2: this organization from the other side.
- 41:52Speaker 1: He knows exactly what went wrong over the last four
- 41:56Speaker 1: years and where Bill might have fallen short. And that
- 42:01Speaker 1: might be a good thing.
- 42:02Speaker 6: Yep.
- 42:03Speaker 2: You know where he can say I know exactly what
- 42:06Speaker 2: needs to be done because I've seen it from the inside.
- 42:09Speaker 1: Now, that often doesn't work.
- 42:11Speaker 2: It's very hard to be promoted from within and be
- 42:14Speaker 2: successful in the NFL. But maybe there'll be enough change
- 42:18Speaker 2: around Mayo where it could work.
- 42:20Speaker 5: Yeah, that's I mean, that's why in that perfect world
- 42:23Speaker 5: it was be to get both. You've got a guy
- 42:25Speaker 5: who's been here, Who's you know, going to maintain the
- 42:27Speaker 5: integrity of the defense that I think we're all like, hey,
- 42:29Speaker 5: you don't need to blow this part of it up,
- 42:32Speaker 5: but you know that there are things that I like
- 42:33Speaker 5: about Rabel two. I thought a lot of the response
- 42:35Speaker 5: from the Titans players about Rabel getting canned was you know,
- 42:38Speaker 5: kind of indicative, similar to what you're seeing right now
- 42:40Speaker 5: from Bill. They seem like, you know, we talked about
- 42:42Speaker 5: is Bill still a good coach? They couldn't beat teams,
- 42:45Speaker 5: you know, like you expected the some to play more
- 42:48Speaker 5: than their parts, and I feel like there are times
- 42:49Speaker 5: where the Titans certainly did that, you know, playing up
- 42:53Speaker 5: to you know, maybe they didn't have all the guys
- 42:55Speaker 5: that week, but they always seem to play hard being Jacksonville.
- 42:57Speaker 5: So I think, you know, there's a lot of appeal
- 42:59Speaker 5: to me about trying to keep both of them, but
- 43:02Speaker 5: it's hard. I think Paul's right, it's you know, what
- 43:04Speaker 5: has Jurraw Mayo been promised? What's in his contract? What
- 43:07Speaker 5: you know are his expectations? Does he you know, what
- 43:09Speaker 5: sets draw Mayo up for success the best way? I mean, personally,
- 43:12Speaker 5: I would probably say be an official defensive coordinator you know,
- 43:16Speaker 5: maybe he gets the title with with Rabel and is
- 43:18Speaker 5: able to help him implement his system here because he
- 43:21Speaker 5: knows how it operates a little bit more. The other
- 43:23Speaker 5: part that appeals to me about Rabel is that he's
- 43:25Speaker 5: technically not a part of the Belichick coaching street. You know,
- 43:27Speaker 5: like he has played under Bill, but he's worked with
- 43:30Speaker 5: plenty of other coaches and other schemes, and he's had
- 43:32Speaker 5: to hire other people, and so you know, if Rabel
- 43:35Speaker 5: was coming here, it's not just going to be like,
- 43:36Speaker 5: all right, here comes Josh, back, here comes you know,
- 43:38Speaker 5: it's probably going to be a new cast of characters,
- 43:41Speaker 5: with Mayo being the one that I would say, let's,
- 43:43Speaker 5: you know, try to maintain some of this defense and
- 43:45Speaker 5: not totally turn it over.
- 43:46Speaker 13: Yeah, let me throw one other thing out there that
- 43:48Speaker 13: I think needs to be thrown out there, Mike Rabel
- 43:51Speaker 13: president of football Operations, because I think there's a world
- 43:58Speaker 13: where Mike Rabel might be more inclined to take that
- 44:03Speaker 13: type of position with the Patriots as the head of
- 44:06Speaker 13: football operations, with Garroddmeo as the head coach, and then
- 44:10Speaker 13: probably like a true scout as a general manager type
- 44:14Speaker 13: director of player personnel and Vrabel is the one that
- 44:17Speaker 13: is overseeing.
- 44:18Speaker 12: Final, say, the entire program. Yeah, that I don't know.
- 44:22Speaker 6: I just like, does he have any real experience doing that?
- 44:25Speaker 6: I know, like he sort of won the power struggle
- 44:28Speaker 6: with John Robinson and then they immediately hired Ran Carthin.
- 44:31Speaker 6: So I'm not sure that. I'm not sure. I love
- 44:34Speaker 6: that it's I've heard people bring that up. I heard
- 44:36Speaker 6: it a lot on my station FRED ninety five the
- 44:39Speaker 6: Sports Up this morning. I heard a couple of people
- 44:41Speaker 6: talking about.
- 44:41Speaker 13: Well, maybe we're talking to the same people, but I
- 44:44Speaker 13: just feel like, you know that that's it's not so,
- 44:48Speaker 13: it's more like the John lynchroll, right Like, it's not
- 44:51Speaker 13: the it's not truly the one that's set on the
- 44:54Speaker 13: board and picking the players, right That's that's more of
- 44:57Speaker 13: like an Adam Peters type in San Francisco and Yle
- 45:00Speaker 13: Shanahan's role right now with the forty nine ers and
- 45:03Speaker 13: John Lynch is more the guy that is just overseeing
- 45:06Speaker 13: it all and making sure everything is buttoned up and
- 45:09Speaker 13: right where it needs to be and things like that,
- 45:11Speaker 13: because without Bill you're losing that sort.
- 45:13Speaker 1: Of what if Grod is that coach.
- 45:20Speaker 13: It's possible it's possible. I just I wonder if there's
- 45:24Speaker 13: a world I I agree that head coach Mike Rabel
- 45:28Speaker 13: defensive coordinator Girodmeyo sound sounds perfect on paper, but it's
- 45:33Speaker 13: probably difficult in practice both ways. And but maybe this
- 45:36Speaker 13: is a way to get both of those guys running
- 45:39Speaker 13: your football operations in a little bit of a more
- 45:41Speaker 13: unique structure. And we've we've seen a lot of this
- 45:45Speaker 13: work and other sports more but like just across the
- 45:48Speaker 13: sports landscape, you know, this is becoming a little bit
- 45:51Speaker 13: more of a popular thing to do with head coaches
- 45:54Speaker 13: being promoted upstairs and or whatever.
- 45:56Speaker 5: You like, what would his responsibilities be if he's not
- 45:59Speaker 5: really control on the draft, he doesn't really coach the team,
- 46:01Speaker 5: Like what what do you do?
- 46:03Speaker 1: Oh, there's there's a lot.
- 46:04Speaker 12: I mean, he's the CEO of the football.
- 46:07Speaker 5: Deciding when we're going to go to Germany and where
- 46:09Speaker 5: we're going to stay, and like those kind of things like, well.
- 46:12Speaker 2: It's it's it's the structure of all the contracts, it's
- 46:16Speaker 2: you know, just running the business. It's it's you know,
- 46:20Speaker 2: and I know when Mayo quit, he left for the
- 46:23Speaker 2: business world for a little bit.
- 46:24Speaker 1: He worked for.
- 46:24Speaker 2: Optim I think, and again, people there loved him, you know,
- 46:29Speaker 2: they couldn't say enough good things about him.
- 46:31Speaker 1: He didn't do it for that long.
- 46:32Speaker 2: I think it was only for a few years, so
- 46:34Speaker 2: I don't know how much experience you get in business
- 46:37Speaker 2: that way, but you know, he just he did do
- 46:40Speaker 2: something else other than football. And I think every football
- 46:44Speaker 2: team needs a president or somebody you know up there
- 46:49Speaker 2: that understands football, but understands the business part of pro
- 46:54Speaker 2: sports and can you know, go between the two so
- 46:58Speaker 2: that the people in the full department respect him, because.
- 47:01Speaker 1: Yeah, he knows what we go through.
- 47:04Speaker 2: He knows how hard it is to you know, the
- 47:07Speaker 2: grind that we go through, but also understands.
- 47:11Speaker 1: We got to make money.
- 47:12Speaker 2: You know, we have to create that those extra revenue,
- 47:16Speaker 2: whether it's with marketing or season ticket holders or you know,
- 47:20Speaker 2: all that ancillary stuff in you know, blending the two
- 47:24Speaker 2: in such a way that you know, you're not focused
- 47:27Speaker 2: too much on it. You're still respecting what football does.
- 47:31Speaker 2: Yet you still realize this is twenty twenty four and
- 47:35Speaker 2: it's not like when you know, the Rooneys won the
- 47:38Speaker 2: Pittsburgh Steelers in a card game.
- 47:41Speaker 13: You know, and I would also say, though that, Like,
- 47:43Speaker 13: it's not like he wouldn't be completely out of big
- 47:47Speaker 13: picture football decisions, no, you know, so, like if they
- 47:50Speaker 13: were to go into free agency and want to sign,
- 47:52Speaker 13: you know, a quarterback for forty million dollars a year,
- 47:55Speaker 13: then that's still going to be a decision that Frable
- 47:57Speaker 13: would have a heavy handed I mean in the NFL,
- 47:59Speaker 13: the best exact would obviously be John lynch in with
- 48:02Speaker 13: the forty nine ers, like locally, like Cam Neely with
- 48:05Speaker 13: the Boston Bruins, right, you know, like that it's his
- 48:08Speaker 13: job to make sure that everything is running the way
- 48:10Speaker 13: it's supposed to be running, and that he has discussions
- 48:13Speaker 13: with with you know, Manty and Sweeney and those guys,
- 48:16Speaker 13: and make sure that these decisions are the right decisions
- 48:18Speaker 13: for the New England Patriots and not just the right decisions.
- 48:22Speaker 12: For you know, Gerrod Mayo or you know whatever.
- 48:25Speaker 13: And I just wonder if that that would be something
- 48:28Speaker 13: that either to Mayo or Frabel, that would interest either
- 48:30Speaker 13: one of those guys and uh and would be a
- 48:33Speaker 13: good way for it, because I think without Bill you
- 48:36Speaker 13: really lose that that CEO of the football team. It's
- 48:40Speaker 13: not just the head coach, it's all of the the
- 48:42Speaker 13: leadership stuff that goes into h Y.
- 48:45Speaker 2: I also, I give I've always given Bill a lot
- 48:48Speaker 2: of credit outside of coaching for having all that responsibility
- 48:53Speaker 2: and keeping it together for you know, over twenty years.
- 48:56Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't know, It's just I'll be interested to
- 49:00Speaker 5: see how it all comes together. I just I mean,
- 49:01Speaker 5: I look at Rabel and I see all this footage
- 49:03Speaker 5: of him on the field, you know, working with guys
- 49:06Speaker 5: and getting in and like I just to me on
- 49:09Speaker 5: the outside, and that could be true for Mayo too,
- 49:11Speaker 5: it seems like that's I think it takes like.
- 49:13Speaker 15: A special type of person to see what goes into
- 49:15Speaker 15: being a head coach after playing as long as Rabel
- 49:18Speaker 15: did and then wanting to jump instantly right into being
- 49:21Speaker 15: on that trajectory. And I think to Evan's point of
- 49:24Speaker 15: I think if Rabel wanted to get into business, he
- 49:27Speaker 15: had a lot of opportunities to be dealing with that
- 49:29Speaker 15: kind of stuff.
- 49:30Speaker 14: And it seems to me like Rabel.
- 49:32Speaker 2: Yeah, but knowing how these guys are wired, I would
- 49:36Speaker 2: imagine Rabel would not want to give up on coaching
- 49:39Speaker 2: yet because he hasn't achieved probably what his goals are,
- 49:45Speaker 2: and so you know, moving up to the front office
- 49:47Speaker 2: would be.
- 49:47Speaker 1: Kind of like leaving that behind. I think he wants
- 49:50Speaker 1: another crack at it.
- 49:51Speaker 15: And if you want to get into business, you don't
- 49:53Speaker 15: necessarily need to do it in football. Guy like him
- 49:55Speaker 15: could probably walk into an investment being and get make
- 49:57Speaker 15: way more money.
- 49:58Speaker 13: Yeah, you know, it's just I just think that there's
- 50:02Speaker 13: that's going on a lot around sports, not just around
- 50:06Speaker 13: the NFL, that guys are getting tired coaching, like literally
- 50:13Speaker 13: tired coaching, and you know it's it's just wears on you,
- 50:18Speaker 13: and they're at the point now where where it might
- 50:22Speaker 13: just it's something different.
- 50:23Speaker 6: You know.
- 50:23Speaker 13: I look at the Celtics with with Brad Stevens and
- 50:25Speaker 13: how well that's worked out. You know, Like I just
- 50:28Speaker 13: I really feel like the CEO and like the general
- 50:31Speaker 13: manager whatever you want to call it. That Bill also
- 50:34Speaker 13: was that is such a major shoes to fill too,
- 50:37Speaker 13: even if you disagree with the actual personnel decisions he
- 50:40Speaker 13: was making, just the direction of the organization that he
- 50:43Speaker 13: had in that responsibility is not something that you can
- 50:47Speaker 13: just replace with a with a mac Row or somebody
- 50:51Speaker 13: like that. That's a scouting guy like you have to
- 50:53Speaker 13: be able to have that those Chops as well.
- 50:55Speaker 1: Nixon Pennsylvania. What's up?
- 50:57Speaker 5: Nick?
- 50:59Speaker 1: Hey, guys, first on caller, Thank you.
- 51:03Speaker 11: But my initial thoughts after the press conference was very
- 51:07Speaker 11: emotional for me because I'm nineteen, so it's like I've
- 51:11Speaker 11: only gotten to witness so much of the dynasty of
- 51:14Speaker 11: Bill and Brady and the whole franchise.
- 51:16Speaker 18: But I just want to know your guys, thoughts on
- 51:21Speaker 18: your overall thoughts on the last twenty four years were Bill,
- 51:24Speaker 18: not only would Bill, but Bill and Brady, and your
- 51:26Speaker 18: thoughts for the future and who's coming next and what
- 51:30Speaker 18: would be the best fit for the Patriots?
- 51:32Speaker 9: All right?
- 51:33Speaker 2: I mean, I feel like we've been kind of talking
- 51:35Speaker 2: about that. I mean, like I said, you really can't
- 51:39Speaker 2: put words to what we witnessed over the last you know,
- 51:41Speaker 2: twenty four years, over the dynasty.
- 51:43Speaker 1: It'll never be matched.
- 51:45Speaker 2: And you know what we witnessed today were two grown
- 51:49Speaker 2: ups recognizing that, you know.
- 51:52Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I mean, I think the harder question is
- 51:55Speaker 5: it's easy to sit here and talk about Frabel and Mayo,
- 51:57Speaker 5: but who else? Who else could it possibly be?
- 51:59Speaker 15: That's what I wonder if like we're moving on too Bill,
- 52:02Speaker 15: is there real chance that we just are like totally
- 52:06Speaker 15: stepping away from this entire direction. No one associated with
- 52:09Speaker 15: Bill like ever kind of who came up through these
- 52:12Speaker 15: ranks and just starting actually completely fresh.
- 52:15Speaker 6: No, I don't think that's gonna happen. I don't. I
- 52:18Speaker 6: mean I kind of wish it did. But I understand
- 52:21Speaker 6: what Robert is sort of holding on to. And I
- 52:25Speaker 6: would say, the one other name that's and I don't
- 52:27Speaker 6: think it's very realistic, but that has been thrown out
- 52:29Speaker 6: consistently as Brian Flores. But it's another guy with Patriots ties. Obviously,
- 52:36Speaker 6: I would kind of like to see Alex that that
- 52:38Speaker 6: kind of fresh restart and try to do it a
- 52:41Speaker 6: different way. But I think it's it's really hard to
- 52:44Speaker 6: listen to those two guys talk about the expectations that
- 52:48Speaker 6: they met and exceeded with a style and system of
- 52:52Speaker 6: doing things, a way of doing things, and then just say, well,
- 52:56Speaker 6: you know what, we got to just take take that
- 52:59Speaker 6: and get rid of all of it that because it's
- 53:01Speaker 6: a new time. I understand why Robert would be like, well, no,
- 53:04Speaker 6: we just need to modernize and make some tweaks to
- 53:06Speaker 6: our system right and do it that way. And I
- 53:09Speaker 6: think that's probably what's on his mind with with Girrod, Yeah,
- 53:12Speaker 6: you know, with Raves if it ends up being Mike.
- 53:17Speaker 6: I'm not telling you that's wrong. I just feel I
- 53:20Speaker 6: feel personally I like to do it a different way.
- 53:22Speaker 6: But I get what what the thought process is.
- 53:24Speaker 5: It's like brand identity, those kind of things. You don't
- 53:26Speaker 5: think it applies to like a sports team, but it's
- 53:28Speaker 5: it's hard to just totally change who you've been and
- 53:31Speaker 5: what you've been kind of known for without keeping, you know,
- 53:33Speaker 5: just some pieces of it. And that's to me why
- 53:36Speaker 5: it's easy to stick with your road.
- 53:37Speaker 2: If there's good people, you retain them. But you also
- 53:42Speaker 2: have to give whoever the new coaches their say because
- 53:45Speaker 2: it's going to be their staff.
- 53:47Speaker 5: How did they land on Pete? Like, I mean, I
- 53:49Speaker 5: mean Parcels was obvious, I mean, well he was hired
- 53:51Speaker 5: before them anyway, but you know, and he'd met Bill,
- 53:54Speaker 5: so you know why. Yeah. But but how did they
- 53:56Speaker 5: come to Pete?
- 53:57Speaker 1: You know that's yeah, I mean, they they talk to
- 53:59Speaker 1: a lot of people.
- 54:00Speaker 2: I think at the end of the day, the biggest
- 54:01Speaker 2: influence was Bill Walsh for Pete. You know, they respected
- 54:07Speaker 2: Walsh and you know all the years that he put
- 54:10Speaker 2: as a coach, and he was Pete's big advocate, and
- 54:14Speaker 2: from what I heard at the time, that was kind
- 54:17Speaker 2: of like, Okay, we're gonna we're gonna go on his word.
- 54:20Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 54:20Speaker 6: Yeah, that's interesting because if you remember Belichick was very
- 54:26Speaker 6: much in play then oh yeah, did you see the
- 54:28Speaker 6: picture that they showed yesterday. That was funny.
- 54:30Speaker 1: I remember that picture car Yeah, you know.
- 54:33Speaker 6: With Bill driving off with Robert and that was ninety seven.
- 54:37Speaker 6: That was, you know, in the aftermath of the Super
- 54:40Speaker 6: Bowl in Parcels leaving. I think that that Craft's instinct
- 54:45Speaker 6: was Belichick at the time, and I felt like he
- 54:49Speaker 6: probably walked away from that because he was too similar
- 54:52Speaker 6: to the Parcels situation.
- 54:53Speaker 1: And yeah, he said it was too close, it was
- 54:55Speaker 1: too soon.
- 54:56Speaker 6: And then he went with Pete. But that's before like
- 54:58Speaker 6: Fred has some insight on as to why it was
- 55:01Speaker 6: Pete that I don't have. I wasn't here then, so
- 55:04Speaker 6: I don't know that.
- 55:05Speaker 5: The interesting thing to we talked a lot about how
- 55:07Speaker 5: teams commonly will go from kind of the hard ass
- 55:10Speaker 5: coach to the players and you go kind of back
- 55:12Speaker 5: and forth, and for as many similarities as Mayo and
- 55:15Speaker 5: Rabel have, I kind of see them as two different
- 55:17Speaker 5: sides of that. I see Mayo Moore as the players
- 55:20Speaker 5: coach and maybe a little bit more affable, and you know,
- 55:22Speaker 5: Rabel seems like a little bit more of a hard ass.
- 55:24Speaker 5: Like it's so it's interesting to see if they would
- 55:26Speaker 5: be willing to kind of, you know, stick with that.
- 55:28Speaker 6: Kind of Rabel has a little bit of both though.
- 55:31Speaker 5: Yeah, I think that's why I love him.
- 55:32Speaker 6: You know, I haven't talked about like the Jamico Ryans
- 55:35Speaker 6: in the Antonio Pierces, the you know, the former player,
- 55:38Speaker 6: and I think Rabel has that and like we saw,
- 55:41Speaker 6: you know, throwing the pads on and hitting guys and
- 55:45Speaker 6: being a psycho at practice. You know. So I do
- 55:48Speaker 6: think he still has a little of that in too.
- 55:50Speaker 13: There's definitely a more comfort comforting level to them hiring
- 55:55Speaker 13: Mike Rabel. I feel like just because of the coaching
- 55:58Speaker 13: experience that he does have. I mean, he coached six
- 56:01Speaker 13: years in Tennessee, brought them to the playoffs three times,
- 56:03Speaker 13: brought them to an AFC Championship Game, Coach of the
- 56:05Speaker 13: Year like that resume is is just better than Mao's. Like,
- 56:10Speaker 13: and that's no disrespect to your odd it's just that's
- 56:13Speaker 13: a better resume.
- 56:13Speaker 5: It's better than Bill's. It's better than Pete's was in
- 56:16Speaker 5: their first go rounds, right, I mean that's yeah.
- 56:19Speaker 13: But it's interesting though that, you know, when you talk
- 56:21Speaker 13: about Pete and then of course Bill Belichick, like the
- 56:25Speaker 13: Crafts might it didn't work out with Pete, but like,
- 56:27Speaker 13: Pete is an all time great coach, and now he's
- 56:29Speaker 13: hanging it up too, and they two pretty much two
- 56:33Speaker 13: pretty good hires when you really think about it. You know,
- 56:36Speaker 13: Pete Carroll and Bill Belichick, So no high bar.
- 56:39Speaker 6: Some might say those are two Hall of famers. But
- 56:41Speaker 6: I got a lot of pushback when I said that
- 56:42Speaker 6: to people today.
- 56:43Speaker 12: Oh really, yeah about Pete, because really.
- 56:46Speaker 1: I don't think I love Pete. I don't think he
- 56:48Speaker 1: should be in the Hall of Fame.
- 56:49Speaker 13: Well, it is the Pro Football Hall of Fame, so
- 56:52Speaker 13: his days at USC, I guess, don't don't count.
- 56:55Speaker 1: That's true.
- 56:56Speaker 12: So in that respect, it okay, this is a different discussion.
- 57:01Speaker 6: I'm with you.
- 57:02Speaker 1: Let's go to Chase.
- 57:03Speaker 6: I think he's pretty good.
- 57:04Speaker 1: I mean, i'm too too, But.
- 57:06Speaker 2: I also think the Hall of Fame should be reserved
- 57:09Speaker 2: from for the greatest.
- 57:10Speaker 1: Uh well, just Bill let's go to chase it in
- 57:12Speaker 1: West Kentucky. What's up chasing.
- 57:15Speaker 19: Hey, guys, it's actually Ethan, but that's probably myst Ethan.
- 57:18Speaker 1: No, it's.
- 57:21Speaker 6: Great man, thank you for your service.
- 57:24Speaker 19: Record and say like, yeah, I wanted Bill gone. I
- 57:28Speaker 19: thought it was better for the team. I still think
- 57:29Speaker 19: that way, but bang getting the stuck guys, like just
- 57:32Speaker 19: wake up this morning and take a bullet to the chest,
- 57:35Speaker 19: Like I'm not not too much of a man to
- 57:37Speaker 19: admit that I had and cried a couple of times
- 57:39Speaker 19: a day and all that. You know, I I'm twenty three,
- 57:41Speaker 19: and you know Bill and Brady were you know, they're
- 57:44Speaker 19: for the majority of my life, and now that Bill's gone,
- 57:46Speaker 19: it's really the end of the dynasty. But aside from that,
- 57:50Speaker 19: like the press conference was great. That's feel like closure
- 57:52Speaker 19: that that's like a lot of people needed. And you know,
- 57:55Speaker 19: I'm less of a wreck than I was this morning.
- 57:57Speaker 19: And then one last thing for Evan as far as
- 58:00Speaker 19: the new head coach search goes and stuff. I'm a
- 58:03Speaker 19: Todd Monkin guy. I like Todd Monkin. I'll like to
- 58:05Speaker 19: think that he does. I think he's creative and you know,
- 58:07Speaker 19: obviously having Lamar Hills. But that's somebody that I would
- 58:10Speaker 19: probably try to do homework on. And I don't even
- 58:12Speaker 19: know if he's really a head coach candidate, but I'm
- 58:14Speaker 19: assuming that he's probably got some interviews or something like that.
- 58:18Speaker 6: But thank you, guys, you could get some looks.
- 58:20Speaker 12: Thanks Jason, he said, just me, thank you.
- 58:24Speaker 6: Yeah, that's true. How about the fact that the last
- 58:26Speaker 6: two calls we had, Bill has been coached longer than
- 58:30Speaker 6: those two guys have been alive.
- 58:32Speaker 12: Yeah, And that's.
- 58:33Speaker 5: The hardest thing because we can patriot about like quite
- 58:36Speaker 5: a few page. I mean, you can talk about more
- 58:37Speaker 5: than I can. But I mean I because you're old.
- 58:39Speaker 12: That was the joke.
- 58:40Speaker 5: And I'm not as old, but I'm still pretty old too, Like.
- 58:42Speaker 12: You're also old.
- 58:42Speaker 6: Yeah, we remember, we're still wicked handsome.
- 58:45Speaker 5: We had two win seasons, like we had one win season.
- 58:47Speaker 5: We know what that looks like.
- 58:48Speaker 13: No, it is true, though, Like I I'm not old
- 58:50Speaker 13: enough to remember, and I.
- 58:51Speaker 15: Were like born the year mister Kraft or even ninety
- 58:54Speaker 15: four ninety two. Yeah, I'm ninety four the year craft Bout.
- 58:57Speaker 12: I don't like really remember a coach before Bill.
- 59:01Speaker 14: He's dying inside, Like.
- 59:02Speaker 13: I don't I don't remember Pete Carroll. I definitely don't
- 59:05Speaker 13: remember Bill Parcells. I was two years old, like I,
- 59:09Speaker 13: So this is the only coach of the football team
- 59:11Speaker 13: that I that I really have any recollection of. Which
- 59:14Speaker 13: is which is wild?
- 59:15Speaker 6: I was into my herald career.
- 59:17Speaker 5: I mean, I know, I was in high school. Well
- 59:21Speaker 5: it's crazy for me though, because you're I mean, you know,
- 59:23Speaker 5: theoretically now you should have some new new schemes to
- 59:25Speaker 5: break down.
- 59:26Speaker 6: Perhaps perhaps and have you looked into perhaps getting a
- 59:31Speaker 6: job making the slide? This is the time you can transition.
- 59:34Speaker 12: I can't tell I.
- 59:39Speaker 6: As long as he's gone, right, alright?
- 59:41Speaker 1: Then tons of emails coming in.
- 59:44Speaker 2: Felicia says, I'm thirty two, a grown woman, and I
- 59:47Speaker 2: can't stop crying. I did did not want this to happen.
- 59:50Speaker 2: I think it's a huge mistake. I'm so devastated. Either way,
- 59:54Speaker 2: I do want to give Mayo a chance to coach.
- 59:56Speaker 2: I think he'd be a great coach in the easiest
- 59:58Speaker 2: transition for the organization.
- 1:00:01Speaker 6: Can I ask a semi serious question, do you think
- 1:00:03Speaker 6: people are being like.
- 1:00:05Speaker 5: Like literally literal Yeah?
- 1:00:08Speaker 6: Do you really?
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: I really?
- 1:00:11Speaker 15: I know about full fledged like crocodile tears. People are
- 1:00:15Speaker 15: definitely at least like tearing up a little bit, being
- 1:00:17Speaker 15: like damn.
- 1:00:18Speaker 6: I will absolutely admit that there are times when there's
- 1:00:21Speaker 6: something that's emotional going on and it hits me emotionally.
- 1:00:25Speaker 6: But like the idea of a great coach no longer
- 1:00:29Speaker 6: being my team's coach is not one of those things
- 1:00:32Speaker 6: that would hit me emotionally. I'd be disappointed, for sure.
- 1:00:36Speaker 5: Maybe it's more that it's just a realization of this
- 1:00:40Speaker 5: time in your life is over and you've had twenty
- 1:00:42Speaker 5: years of kind of knowing one thing and kind of
- 1:00:44Speaker 5: just knowing what to expect for better or worse, and
- 1:00:46Speaker 5: now I mean I got a little bit emotional when
- 1:00:49Speaker 5: I saw Brady run out in week two, like when
- 1:00:51Speaker 5: he came running out of Hell. So week one like
- 1:00:54Speaker 5: seeing that Week one.
- 1:00:55Speaker 6: Sorry, that's interesting to me. And you don't even like him, I.
- 1:00:59Speaker 14: Don't about watching Slate runoff, Yeah.
- 1:01:02Speaker 6: Love me some Slater, yeah, but like happy for him.
- 1:01:05Speaker 6: You know.
- 1:01:06Speaker 15: I was like trying to get a camera angle of
- 1:01:08Speaker 15: him from the front running off and you could just
- 1:01:10Speaker 15: see him looking around and just the fans just yelling Slate, Slate,
- 1:01:14Speaker 15: thank you.
- 1:01:14Speaker 14: I can't lie a little bit of tears.
- 1:01:16Speaker 6: Listen, I'm not making I'm not criticizing. Please don't misunderstand this.
- 1:01:20Speaker 6: I'm just I'm asking, like a serious question.
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: But think of all the great memories we've had over
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: the last twenty years.
- 1:01:30Speaker 6: Yeah, they don't make me cry, and they made me happy.
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: Now and now they're over. It's well, this is definitely you.
- 1:01:36Speaker 12: Know that part of our lives probably that's probably right to.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: That part of our lives is over. And when you really.
- 1:01:43Speaker 6: When I look at the three peet of bean pot championships,
- 1:01:46Speaker 6: when you realize that it's happy that it happened, it
- 1:01:49Speaker 6: can be emotional.
- 1:01:50Speaker 14: Three just be happy that it happened.
- 1:01:54Speaker 5: I thought it's just three generally.
- 1:01:58Speaker 6: In a row because it eighteen nineteen. Yeah, I forget
- 1:02:01Speaker 6: the years whatever.
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: Ricky and Connecticut says four out guys subject line empty
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: space in my heart where Bill once was.
- 1:02:10Speaker 6: See like, that's what I mean. I wish we were
- 1:02:12Speaker 6: clearly fascinated by this.
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: I wish we could have kept Bill and added in
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: a true GM and bolster of the offensive staff. Now
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: that we're on from the Goat, I'd like to see
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: Vrabel as the next head coach. I think Mayo is
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: a fit in Seattle, Bill seems to be a fit
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: in Washington.
- 1:02:26Speaker 6: No chance for washing.
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: My question, does it make more sense to identify the
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: head coach or GM first recent being The quarterbacks in
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: this draft will fit differently within the schemes of the
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: potential coaches.
- 1:02:39Speaker 6: That's why the was it Jason that No, Ethan? It
- 1:02:42Speaker 6: said Jason, the Matt wrote Jason on the call screen.
- 1:02:45Speaker 6: It was Ethan. Ethan's Todd Munkin thing. It's got me
- 1:02:48Speaker 6: a little Jayden Daniels action going.
- 1:02:50Speaker 13: You know, Yeah, Todd Munkin is an interesting name. I
- 1:02:54Speaker 13: don't think that he will be on the line.
- 1:02:55Speaker 6: I don't either.
- 1:02:55Speaker 12: I just wanted to think about it for a little bit.
- 1:02:57Speaker 13: But yeah, I mean if that I don't, you can't
- 1:03:00Speaker 13: you don't hire the head coach because we're gonna hire
- 1:03:03Speaker 13: Todd Monkin because we're going to draft Jaden Daniels.
- 1:03:05Speaker 12: Like, I just don't think that that's necessarily.
- 1:03:08Speaker 6: That you have to have the guy already, right.
- 1:03:10Speaker 13: Because you just don't. You don't know if jad and
- 1:03:12Speaker 13: Daniels can even play in the league. Like, you know,
- 1:03:14Speaker 13: if you had Lamar Jackson and you're hiring a new
- 1:03:16Speaker 13: head coach and You've hired Todd Monkin because you think
- 1:03:18Speaker 13: you could coach Lamar Jackson. That's a different Stiffin animal,
- 1:03:21Speaker 13: But you don't do that for a college.
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: Micah from South Dakota. Bill Belichick is the only coach
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: I've ever known for the New England Patriots. This has
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: been a weird four years for me, since I've only
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: been a fan since O seven, when I was seven
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: years old. It's been weird because all I've known is
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and Patriot greatness. Now that Bill
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: and Tom are both gone for good, it really is
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: eye opening that the era of the Patriots greatness has
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: come to an end. And it's a tough pill to
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: swallow for someone who has known nothing but greatness from
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: the New England Patriots.
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: Thank you, Bill. I will never forget what you have
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: done for me in Patriots Nation.
- 1:03:56Speaker 13: That piece of it is very true. I mean like
- 1:03:58Speaker 13: it's the greatest run in the history of sports is
- 1:04:01Speaker 13: now officially over. The door is going to completely closed.
- 1:04:05Speaker 13: Like when Brady left, you still had Bill, it was
- 1:04:08Speaker 13: still a jar. Now it's the book is done. The
- 1:04:12Speaker 13: book is now the book is.
- 1:04:14Speaker 5: Really That's why I like the loss to the Jets
- 1:04:16Speaker 5: like that kind of ended that wind Street. You know,
- 1:04:17Speaker 5: like everything there's nothing, there's nothing really to carry over
- 1:04:20Speaker 5: unless they keep something.
- 1:04:24Speaker 9: Wow.
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: Yeah, to use the phone, Robin Bellingham. The last forty
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: eight hours in football news has been surreal. The only
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: way I can describe this as a part of history,
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: not NFL history, but history period. I remember where I
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: was when the Challenger exploded. I remember where I was
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: psychology first plane, when was the Challenger? Oh yeah, I
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: remember where I was when the first plane hit on
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: nine to eleven. And I'll always remember where I was
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: when I heard the news that Bill Belichick and the
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: team were parting ways.
- 1:05:00Speaker 15: He said history, I'm not sure.
- 1:05:07Speaker 12: I'm not sure that's on the same level.
- 1:05:09Speaker 5: Just the period of history though that this covered from
- 1:05:13Speaker 5: where we were at with computers like two thousand, like
- 1:05:15Speaker 5: I mean, I mean, you didn't have the Internet in.
- 1:05:17Speaker 6: College, right, Like I was just college.
- 1:05:19Speaker 5: I was just getting the Internet in college.
- 1:05:21Speaker 6: For me, it was the eighties.
- 1:05:22Speaker 5: But this like team, this run span computers, like the
- 1:05:26Speaker 5: rise of computers, the right social media didn't even exist
- 1:05:28Speaker 5: when this team start. You guys were doing a newspaper
- 1:05:31Speaker 5: and now we got when Bill was a tweeting and Instagram, and.
- 1:05:34Speaker 6: When Bill started, it was just it was just different.
- 1:05:37Speaker 6: It was I now it's the explosion of it. But
- 1:05:39Speaker 6: we had like Fred was always Fred was always kind.
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: There was no social media.
- 1:05:46Speaker 6: He was on my face.
- 1:05:47Speaker 5: Fifty six k like, yeah, connected the Internet.
- 1:05:51Speaker 6: When Fred started, I like, we had regular got may
- 1:05:56Speaker 6: you know. But that's what Bill used to make fun of.
- 1:05:58Speaker 6: That was the original my space. Bill's original was my face.
- 1:06:02Speaker 6: You would call it my face.
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: Face Cody in Indiana.
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: I will fully admit that I've been calling for Bill's
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: head for a year and a half. That said, I
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: got choked up when I saw Deuce wearing a cutoff hootie.
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: I'm thirty.
- 1:06:15Speaker 12: That's what I got, somebody.
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: I'm thirty years old and genuinely can't remember a time
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: when Bill Belichick wasn't the head coach of the Patriots.
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: I've been out on Bill since the Patricia fiasco, but
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: I'm still freaking sad today. Some of the best memories
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: of my life are because of Bill and Tom and
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: now that the era is definite, definitively over, it is
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: such a surreal feeling. Anyway, I'm sure you're listening to
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: this podcast, right now, So let me say thank you Bill.
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't think he is.
- 1:06:43Speaker 13: And then that's you know, I'm thirty one, so like
- 1:06:45Speaker 13: we're in the same boat. Like that's how all of
- 1:06:47Speaker 13: us feel right now.
- 1:06:48Speaker 5: Is that did I get you choked up with?
- 1:06:51Speaker 13: That didn't happen, but you do you appreciate, like I
- 1:06:56Speaker 13: totally understand what he's saying. You know that it was time.
- 1:06:59Speaker 13: It was but that doesn't make a day like today
- 1:07:02Speaker 13: any easier. And in the same way I felt like
- 1:07:04Speaker 13: with Brady when I saw Brady in the Tampa Bay
- 1:07:07Speaker 13: Buccaneers uniform, like I it was hard for me to watch.
- 1:07:11Speaker 6: You were angry, Fred was proud.
- 1:07:14Speaker 13: It was I wasn't angry. I just it was difficult
- 1:07:18Speaker 13: for me to watch. You know, it was even difficult
- 1:07:21Speaker 13: for me to like consume brady content at that point.
- 1:07:23Speaker 6: You know, when he wasn't with he was very conflicted.
- 1:07:26Speaker 13: And now I feel the same way about Bill, Like
- 1:07:28Speaker 13: if Bill's the Falcons head coach next year, I I
- 1:07:30Speaker 13: don't want to see Bill on the sideline and Falcons
- 1:07:33Speaker 13: gear with the cutoff hoodie, and I don't want to
- 1:07:35Speaker 13: see that he did.
- 1:07:36Speaker 5: He hasn't really want cut off hoodies the last couple
- 1:07:38Speaker 5: of years.
- 1:07:39Speaker 6: That's because of your database. Thanks Deuce. Another thing, another
- 1:07:43Speaker 6: thing you ended when you came here.
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: James Pettigrew, the most interesting Patriots fan of the world, says,
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: I know it's not printed anymore, but what would the
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: cover have been for PFW? I presume it would have
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: been one of your usual amusing quips bye bye.
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: Bb bye bye baby.
- 1:08:00Speaker 6: Thanks. It might have been as simple than that was.
- 1:08:03Speaker 6: That's that's that's that's the title of my piece that
- 1:08:07Speaker 6: I don't know when that's gonna run special, But like
- 1:08:12Speaker 6: a thanks, Bill, I think simplicity might have been Freddy's uh,
- 1:08:16Speaker 6: you know, thank you.
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: Not everyone's happy.
- 1:08:21Speaker 6: Fred's not listening, Evidently.
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: Max writes in, well, I hope you're all happy now
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: that Bill has been run out of the building.
- 1:08:26Speaker 6: Favorite. These are my favorite, wed Please proceed.
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: Bring on the next Fred Crayton still love the show.
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: Shine on.
- 1:08:34Speaker 9: We did it.
- 1:08:35Speaker 6: It's the only person in the building that that understands
- 1:08:37Speaker 6: that reference. We all understand that the successor will not
- 1:08:41Speaker 6: be as good as coach as Bill Belichick. Thanks Captain obvious.
- 1:08:45Speaker 12: But we did it.
- 1:08:46Speaker 6: We we successfully, We got what we wanted.
- 1:08:49Speaker 13: We've been Really the pitchforks have been out, and we
- 1:08:52Speaker 13: officially have succeeded in running And you know why, coach
- 1:08:56Speaker 13: of all time out of town.
- 1:08:57Speaker 6: You know why you wanted to run them out, Evan,
- 1:08:59Speaker 6: because he didn't answer your questions. He's mean to you.
- 1:09:01Speaker 13: That's one hundred percent. He dunked on me one time
- 1:09:04Speaker 13: when I was talking to him about box counts.
- 1:09:08Speaker 6: I don't even know what that means. I do, That's
- 1:09:16Speaker 6: what I meant. I didn't know what I mean. I
- 1:09:17Speaker 6: don't know the story.
- 1:09:18Speaker 5: Going back to what Evan said, though, it does feel
- 1:09:20Speaker 5: like this might be kind of an interstitial guy, like
- 1:09:23Speaker 5: you know whoever's next, Like it's it's hard to believe
- 1:09:26Speaker 5: that they're going to hit this one out of the park,
- 1:09:27Speaker 5: right out of there.
- 1:09:28Speaker 6: There's a reason why the Patriots dynasty. Most people believe,
- 1:09:33Speaker 6: I will want to say everybody, because Fred will come
- 1:09:35Speaker 6: up with the one person that disagrees most people believe
- 1:09:38Speaker 6: will never be matched. No, it's because you had greatness
- 1:09:43Speaker 6: for a long period of time, and the chances are
- 1:09:45Speaker 6: repeating of repeating that are really really small, Like you
- 1:09:52Speaker 6: can get Brett fav and then Aaron Rodgers. That can
- 1:09:55Speaker 6: happen more often than not. It doesn't happen like that
- 1:09:59Speaker 6: more often than it's you know, Brett Farhr followed by.
- 1:10:04Speaker 5: Yeah, you know Tony Easton or if you do, you
- 1:10:06Speaker 5: get one title, I mean, you're very good, But you know,
- 1:10:09Speaker 5: it's it's it's more realistic to expect, like at some
- 1:10:12Speaker 5: point over the next fifteen years that they're gonna it'll
- 1:10:15Speaker 5: just all line up one year, you know, when they'll
- 1:10:17Speaker 5: get to a game and they'll play. You know they'll win.
- 1:10:18Speaker 6: But you know, when Bill Parcells left the Giants, it
- 1:10:21Speaker 6: was Ray Hanley. It wasn't Bill Belichick who succeeded Bill Parcells,
- 1:10:24Speaker 6: it was Ray Hanley. Like, it's very rare to get
- 1:10:27Speaker 6: the guy who knocks it out of the park the
- 1:10:29Speaker 6: second time around, like and you just continue it.
- 1:10:32Speaker 12: That's you.
- 1:10:32Speaker 6: Geworge Seafert replaced Bill Walsh, who like, I know that
- 1:10:37Speaker 6: George c for one title, but he wasn't anything in comparison.
- 1:10:41Speaker 13: That's why I almost feel like that's why we I
- 1:10:43Speaker 13: keep going back to vrabel Is just like it's just
- 1:10:46Speaker 13: steady right in like bao. I feel like it's either
- 1:10:49Speaker 13: going to be a home run higher or or he's
- 1:10:52Speaker 13: not ready for it.
- 1:10:53Speaker 6: And there's could be Pittsburgh, right, but you could go
- 1:10:55Speaker 6: from Chuck Nole to Bill Cowartz and Mike Tomlin and
- 1:10:58Speaker 6: get three really good coaches.
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: Yuah, Craig and Charlotte. You probably won't hear much of
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: this opinion today, but I still want to share.
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: I hate this.
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: I'm really disappointed in the Crafts. I thought they had
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: a different set of values. I'm glad the press conference
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: was so cordial, but I don't believe Bill would have
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: left if he had a choice.
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: Craft fired him. He needs to own that.
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: I hope Bill comes back for all the upcoming celebrations,
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: but I wouldn't blame him one bit if he made
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: a clean break.
- 1:11:24Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean he's not the coach anymore. So yeah
- 1:11:29Speaker 6: he was fired, but like what a what does that
- 1:11:33Speaker 6: make you feel better?
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: Set of values? I mean, win.
- 1:11:37Speaker 13: Like how many more years were we gonna were we
- 1:11:39Speaker 13: gonna give him? On unresting on the Laurels? Like I
- 1:11:42Speaker 13: think that that's the thing that I don't understand about,
- 1:11:44Speaker 13: because there's that sentiment is definitely out there that they
- 1:11:47Speaker 13: should have been loyal and that they should have just
- 1:11:49Speaker 13: let him go down with this ship or whatever.
- 1:11:51Speaker 6: We deserve to dictate hit the ending right.
- 1:11:54Speaker 13: So like, how many we're gonna give him? Five years,
- 1:11:56Speaker 13: six years, seven years until he decided to just retire.
- 1:12:00Speaker 13: Rumbling in to Shoole's record, like what what? At what
- 1:12:02Speaker 13: point is is enough enough? I mean they haven't won
- 1:12:05Speaker 13: a playoff games since twenty eighteen. It's twenty twenty four.
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: No, let's go to Alan, Wisconsin on the A sticket hotline.
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: What's up?
- 1:12:12Speaker 5: Al?
- 1:12:14Speaker 20: All right, here we go.
- 1:12:19Speaker 21: Okay, you don't need a lie.
- 1:12:24Speaker 6: Oh I cried more than probably anybody in this room.
- 1:12:26Speaker 6: I'll get I get teared up with those Pizza Time
- 1:12:29Speaker 6: Flame Lifetime movies. I start crying the onion that one
- 1:12:33Speaker 6: time that not so much that really, But yeah, I
- 1:12:37Speaker 6: have no problems whatsoever admitting that I cry. It's just
- 1:12:40Speaker 6: I've never cried over like a sports team loss or no,
- 1:12:45Speaker 6: you know, personally.
- 1:12:46Speaker 5: Owns team's losses, but not fancy.
- 1:12:48Speaker 6: Oh yes, big by, big baby. When I when I
- 1:12:51Speaker 6: blow a game, I've got.
- 1:12:54Speaker 21: A couple of things real quick, I'll hurry because it's
- 1:12:58Speaker 21: Super wild Card weekend. We have an extra game. I
- 1:13:06Speaker 21: love the idea of having a like president of football
- 1:13:11Speaker 21: that oversees both the general manager and the head coach.
- 1:13:14Speaker 21: I think we saw it with Bill, and we see
- 1:13:16Speaker 21: it with a lot of head coaches that they can
- 1:13:18Speaker 21: get really kind of stuck in their ways, and so
- 1:13:21Speaker 21: having someone above that who can ideally sort of stand
- 1:13:27Speaker 21: apart and say, hey, you know, the offense needs to
- 1:13:31Speaker 21: go in another direction. We can't keep doing this. We
- 1:13:34Speaker 21: have to, you know, do something else. I think that's
- 1:13:37Speaker 21: really good and healthy for the organization. And then beyond that,
- 1:13:43Speaker 21: though I know it won't happen, but I do wish
- 1:13:47Speaker 21: that we could get just like a total clean, fresh start,
- 1:13:52Speaker 21: and maybe it'll steel that way with Mayo or Rabel
- 1:13:56Speaker 21: or maybe will get a new type of offense in here.
- 1:13:59Speaker 21: I'm just I'm going to be a little bit worried
- 1:14:02Speaker 21: that will see kind of a return to the same
- 1:14:06Speaker 21: until it goes the other way. Just like I was
- 1:14:08Speaker 21: worried the longer that this went on that the Crafts
- 1:14:11Speaker 21: wouldn't actually move on from Belichick. I think that that
- 1:14:15Speaker 21: little worry and the pit of my stomach is going
- 1:14:17Speaker 21: to stay there.
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, thanks Sol.
- 1:14:21Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean.
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: It's it is change. It's right great unknown.
- 1:14:26Speaker 5: And so the wilderness, you know, there's no guarantee of anything.
- 1:14:29Speaker 13: I don't have as much a fear of like keeping
- 1:14:33Speaker 13: somebody from the Belichick circle of trust as other people do,
- 1:14:37Speaker 13: Like I feel like, oh, we gotta start completely fresh.
- 1:14:41Speaker 13: I I just I think you know, when you said
- 1:14:44Speaker 13: it earlier, it's just it needs to be more, it
- 1:14:47Speaker 13: needs to be modernized, It needs to be updated. But
- 1:14:49Speaker 13: it doesn't like there's not I don't think it's broken
- 1:14:52Speaker 13: to the point where they need to like hire Ben
- 1:14:54Speaker 13: Johnson and just like go a totally different direction just
- 1:14:58Speaker 13: because you know that they you had a four win season, Like,
- 1:15:01Speaker 13: I think that there's definitely a cleaner path to sustainability
- 1:15:05Speaker 13: with just sticking with something that's a little bit familiar.
- 1:15:09Speaker 5: Well, it was one thing to be able to move
- 1:15:11Speaker 5: on from Bill, but it's another to say, you know
- 1:15:13Speaker 5: that they're going to completely blow it up and have
- 1:15:15Speaker 5: a whole bunch of new executives and coaches and things
- 1:15:18Speaker 5: that they've never dealt with before, and you're going to
- 1:15:19Speaker 5: tackle this offseason with you know, money to spend and
- 1:15:23Speaker 5: a chop draft pick and you know all those things
- 1:15:26Speaker 5: of you know, who are these people, what are their
- 1:15:28Speaker 5: points of view? And I mean you can get that
- 1:15:29Speaker 5: in an interview a little bit, but until you actually
- 1:15:32Speaker 5: make the leap and say, all right, my new GM
- 1:15:34Speaker 5: wants this guy, and my head coach wants this guy
- 1:15:36Speaker 5: at number three. Overall, how do I you know? I'm
- 1:15:38Speaker 5: in the middle of this now. It used to be
- 1:15:40Speaker 5: easy when it was you just tell us Bill, but
- 1:15:42Speaker 5: you know it can get complicated pretty quick.
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: Ron and Sutton.
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: Mass is a big reason this is more emotional for
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: many people out there is because this has been more
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: than just football just to coach, et cetera. So many
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: of US Patriots fans have spent every single football season,
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: every Sunday, whatever it may be, with family, all the
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: playoff memories, the Super Bowl parties. Many started watching this
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: dynasty with parents and grandparents, children and grandchildren. During this
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: exciting time for all of us hardcore Patriots fans, it
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: wasn't just the football. All the memories, the cheering, the tears,
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: little children in their jerseys that are now grown up. Grandparents,
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: parents that were once cheering here with us are no
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: longer with us. This coach, this dynasty and organization has
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: brought so many families and fans together for so long.
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: This ending of the dynasty is much more than just
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: the changing of a coach.
- 1:16:32Speaker 6: Yeah, I agree, I mean, I hear that.
- 1:16:33Speaker 5: But I also remember in the nineties having games on
- 1:16:37Speaker 5: with my mom and my parents, and you know, it's
- 1:16:39Speaker 5: it doesn't take away the you know, the camaraderie, the
- 1:16:42Speaker 5: family aspect of football. I mean, I think that's what
- 1:16:45Speaker 5: we all love about it. I mean, that was my
- 1:16:46Speaker 5: favorite part of being a fan. I mean, I think
- 1:16:48Speaker 5: I used to like the tailgates more than I liked
- 1:16:50Speaker 5: actually like the stress of going into the game. It was,
- 1:16:52Speaker 5: you know, meeting other Patriots fans and blogging about it,
- 1:16:56Speaker 5: talking about hoodies, making memes me you know, you know me.
- 1:17:01Speaker 6: Yeah. I saw Steve Conroy, longtime Harold beat writer for
- 1:17:05Speaker 6: the Bruins, tweeted something out and I'm paraphrasing them just
- 1:17:09Speaker 6: about how Bill brought football culture here and it made
- 1:17:13Speaker 6: it the appointment, you know, it was an appointment every
- 1:17:16Speaker 6: week even this year. It made like sort of every
- 1:17:20Speaker 6: week was an appointment that you had to keep and
- 1:17:23Speaker 6: we didn't have that. And I was a huge fan
- 1:17:27Speaker 6: and Fred makes fun of me all the time for
- 1:17:29Speaker 6: being one of the losers. That was like keeping track
- 1:17:32Speaker 6: of the two and fourteen Patriots in the early nineties
- 1:17:34Speaker 6: and all of a sudden, they got parcels, they drafted Bledsoe,
- 1:17:37Speaker 6: and that's when I got my season tickets and I
- 1:17:39Speaker 6: was like, whoa, I'm in h you know. But for
- 1:17:42Speaker 6: a lot of other people, it didn't happen until Belichick came.
- 1:17:46Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:17:47Speaker 5: I think for me too, though, is that it felt
- 1:17:49Speaker 5: kind of like the dynasty was ending in twenty seventeen,
- 1:17:52Speaker 5: and you know, like like that's really when. For me,
- 1:17:54Speaker 5: it was like this is at the end right now.
- 1:17:56Speaker 5: And you know, even though Bill has still been here
- 1:17:58Speaker 5: these last you know, four seas, and it just has
- 1:18:01Speaker 5: never felt to me like they were ever on a
- 1:18:03Speaker 5: trajectory to get back to that place. I mean maybe
- 1:18:06Speaker 5: briefly in twenty twenty one, early on we kind of said,
- 1:18:08Speaker 5: oh they're back, baby, and you know, after the win
- 1:18:11Speaker 5: over the Bills and the wind, you felt like, oh,
- 1:18:13Speaker 5: this this is a team that fall into But I mean,
- 1:18:16Speaker 5: other than that brief window, these last four years, it's
- 1:18:18Speaker 5: just it's not them anymore. It's a team that loses
- 1:18:21Speaker 5: to backup quarterbacks and like I said, make stupid mistakes
- 1:18:24Speaker 5: on special teams and you know, can't come up with
- 1:18:27Speaker 5: a big play or turn the ball over the first
- 1:18:28Speaker 5: play of the game. I mean, it's just the consist
- 1:18:30Speaker 5: things that consistently happened that we've seen over four years,
- 1:18:33Speaker 5: and it's just they've been a shell of that team
- 1:18:35Speaker 5: that we, you know, came to believe that they were.
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: Let's go to Michelle in South Carolina.
- 1:18:41Speaker 6: Hey Michelle, Hey, guys, how are you all right?
- 1:18:48Speaker 22: I couldn't even pull my cup of concerts before I
- 1:18:51Speaker 22: found out. This morning. I was a little sad. I
- 1:18:57Speaker 22: was a little I didn't cry, but it was sad, even.
- 1:19:00Speaker 20: Though it was expected.
- 1:19:02Speaker 22: I liked how they did it this morning. I liked
- 1:19:05Speaker 22: how it was both of them. I didn't like the
- 1:19:09Speaker 22: fact that there were no questions there, but I understood it.
- 1:19:15Speaker 22: So let me get on to some point here. Oh
- 1:19:19Speaker 22: one o the questions, I mean one of the comments,
- 1:19:22Speaker 22: did you guys happen to see the video out there
- 1:19:27Speaker 22: by what's his name? He was singing a song to
- 1:19:33Speaker 22: the Belichick this.
- 1:19:34Speaker 6: Morning Chandler Jones. Yeah, yeah, found out that Jim oh figures.
- 1:19:42Speaker 22: I had a feeling it would be.
- 1:19:47Speaker 23: Anyway.
- 1:19:49Speaker 22: So my thing with Rabel I wouldn't mind him coming
- 1:19:53Speaker 22: here because I don't think everybody under the quote unquote
- 1:19:58Speaker 22: Belichick Freeze is actually Belichick like Patricia.
- 1:20:03Speaker 12: Used to be.
- 1:20:04Speaker 22: Patricia used to want to be Belichick. So I think
- 1:20:08Speaker 22: that's the difference. I think they have some of the
- 1:20:11Speaker 22: same attributes, like maybe some coaching styles, but I think
- 1:20:19Speaker 22: it's very different. I think players want to play for
- 1:20:22Speaker 22: these younger coaches because they have somewhat of a different style,
- 1:20:26Speaker 22: and I think it's becoming more of a player's league, almost.
- 1:20:31Speaker 13: Like the NBA.
- 1:20:32Speaker 22: You know, they're younger, they want to play faster, they
- 1:20:35Speaker 22: want to play for a younger coach, a coach that's
- 1:20:39Speaker 22: excited to be a coach, you know. So that's one
- 1:20:43Speaker 22: thing about Rabel and I think it would maybe be
- 1:20:46Speaker 22: the same thing as Mayo.
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: Now.
- 1:20:48Speaker 22: Brabel has maybe more options with teams that are still
- 1:20:53Speaker 22: in the playoffs, like teams that really screwed up at
- 1:20:57Speaker 22: the end. And I'm not sure if you guys are
- 1:20:59Speaker 22: gonnare with me. One of the teams I think could
- 1:21:03Speaker 22: be the Bills or the Eagles.
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:21:09Speaker 6: Yeah, definitely the Eagles, and I think the Bill I think, ye,
- 1:21:14Speaker 6: the Bills could be too.
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: Yeah, they get bounced earlier.
- 1:21:17Speaker 6: I think the Bills kind of saved themselves by the
- 1:21:20Speaker 6: way they finished. But the Eagles could be uh, definitely,
- 1:21:23Speaker 6: I mean they're yeah, they're I.
- 1:21:25Speaker 22: Think Rabel's going to be like, oh rah, raw, let
- 1:21:28Speaker 22: me get.
- 1:21:28Speaker 17: To the Patriot.
- 1:21:30Speaker 22: I agree the Eagles have a nice young core around them.
- 1:21:36Speaker 22: And also I think Craft and I don't think this
- 1:21:40Speaker 22: may O higher is because he's a loyalist also, and
- 1:21:46Speaker 22: I think maybe Craft needs to start being a loyalist
- 1:21:50Speaker 22: like Bill and all his prone And my last question,
- 1:21:54Speaker 22: and I'll go Bill with the agreement of leaving or
- 1:22:00Speaker 22: being fired whatever he was, what do you think of
- 1:22:04Speaker 22: it is I'm taking these people with me, so you
- 1:22:10Speaker 22: need to find people to replace them, like maybe his
- 1:22:14Speaker 22: sons or.
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: Well, you know, that's that's a really good point, Michelle.
- 1:22:19Speaker 2: I said, that's a good point, Michelle, thanks for the call.
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: Maybe part of the negotiations over the course of this
- 1:22:24Speaker 2: week is if I'm leaving, these are the guys I
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: want to take.
- 1:22:28Speaker 5: Right And is that a negotiation that how much with
- 1:22:30Speaker 5: the ownership or is that like the next coach says,
- 1:22:32Speaker 5: I want to keep these guys, you know, like, when
- 1:22:35Speaker 5: is that decided?
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: Yeah, it's hard.
- 1:22:37Speaker 5: I mean I think we all assume probably Bill's kids would.
- 1:22:39Speaker 13: Go but yeah, well, DeMarcus Covington and Mike Pellegrino were
- 1:22:43Speaker 13: also in the room. I didn't mention that because we
- 1:22:45Speaker 13: were talking about Josh McDaniel's being there, so so confirmed
- 1:22:48Speaker 13: he was, Yeah, he's there. I saw him with my
- 1:22:49Speaker 13: own eyes. I think that those told me that I
- 1:22:55Speaker 13: am in particular.
- 1:22:56Speaker 14: Yes, yeah, I saw a tweet about it and I
- 1:22:59Speaker 14: was looking.
- 1:23:00Speaker 5: I was in the front, so it was weird.
- 1:23:03Speaker 13: Ye, So you know those typically those are Bill's guys, like,
- 1:23:07Speaker 13: those are Bill's coaches, Like it's not They're not the crowd.
- 1:23:11Speaker 13: That's his staff, you know. So if he goes.
- 1:23:13Speaker 6: I asked that question about the Jets game with Josh
- 1:23:16Speaker 6: with that in mind, do you think he was there
- 1:23:19Speaker 6: for Slater or Bill?
- 1:23:22Speaker 12: Bill?
- 1:23:23Speaker 6: And I think Bill.
- 1:23:24Speaker 12: I think we answered that today.
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: Uh Claire writes in I can't say.
- 1:23:30Speaker 6: I don't know what that was.
- 1:23:32Speaker 12: I'm like, worried to be in the same room with
- 1:23:34Speaker 12: you guys.
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: I generally I wasn't sure. I wanted them to move
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: on from Bill. I was kind of hoping he'd stay
- 1:23:42Speaker 2: with a new GM or such. I think when I
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: listened to the Bill portion of that press or, I
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: will admit especially at the Always a Patriot part.
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: I'm not ashamed I cried. That's Claire, Okay, that's okay
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: to cry.
- 1:23:58Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't think I cried my like when I
- 1:24:00Speaker 5: lost my high school game, Like the last high school game,
- 1:24:02Speaker 5: we lost in overtime, and I just was like pissed
- 1:24:04Speaker 5: at the team, and so I didn't cry. But I
- 1:24:06Speaker 5: did cry my junior year.
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: That one.
- 1:24:08Speaker 5: I was because we were like in a shootout and
- 1:24:10Speaker 5: we should have won.
- 1:24:11Speaker 6: I cried driving home after allowing a two run homer.
- 1:24:14Speaker 6: When I had a one hit shutout with two strikes
- 1:24:15Speaker 6: and going on in the bottom of the line O two,
- 1:24:20Speaker 6: I threw four straight balls to the ninth batter walked him,
- 1:24:23Speaker 6: and the next kid did a two run homer, and
- 1:24:24Speaker 6: I cried on the way home, and I was like
- 1:24:27Speaker 6: walking out and he still is not gonna lie. I
- 1:24:30Speaker 6: was like twenty three at the time. I wasn't a kid.
- 1:24:34Speaker 12: It's ok that's all right.
- 1:24:36Speaker 6: I told you when I screwed up, that's the reason
- 1:24:38Speaker 6: to cry.
- 1:24:39Speaker 2: Jeff if Brooklyn says, well, it's time for Paul to
- 1:24:42Speaker 2: retire so we can finally direct his three part mini
- 1:24:44Speaker 2: series on when It's Okay to Cry? And more importantly,
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: Mayo strikes me as a special dude.
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: He's the coach.
- 1:24:53Speaker 13: I think he is a special dude. I just don't
- 1:24:55Speaker 13: know if he's ready.
- 1:24:56Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't know either.
- 1:24:58Speaker 6: I think like may when I liked so, I feel
- 1:25:01Speaker 6: like if if there's one of those two guys, those
- 1:25:03Speaker 6: are the two guys. I feel like we've all wrong.
- 1:25:05Speaker 5: We've all talked to Mayo. I mean, I've never talked
- 1:25:06Speaker 5: to Rabel, but I mean we've all talked to him.
- 1:25:09Speaker 12: Was great.
- 1:25:10Speaker 5: You know, I always enjoyed hopping in his room when
- 1:25:12Speaker 5: like everyone was in below Brian and it would just
- 1:25:14Speaker 5: be me and Mayo and just had him up.
- 1:25:16Speaker 15: Especially some of those defensive guys. If we're looking to
- 1:25:19Speaker 15: re sign some of those free agents, I think that's
- 1:25:22Speaker 15: a good move to at least keep the continuity there,
- 1:25:25Speaker 15: a really strong defense going into next year.
- 1:25:27Speaker 12: Yeah, I agree with that. And yeah, I was talking
- 1:25:29Speaker 12: when we were talking to him earlier this year. I
- 1:25:32Speaker 12: asked him.
- 1:25:33Speaker 13: About the scoring being down around the league, and you know, well,
- 1:25:38Speaker 13: if there's any reasons that he saw for that, and
- 1:25:41Speaker 13: and he just said that, you know, went on an
- 1:25:43Speaker 13: answer about how I always you know, roots for defense
- 1:25:46Speaker 13: obviously in defensive guys. But then he said, you know,
- 1:25:48Speaker 13: at the end of the day, though, you you got
- 1:25:50Speaker 13: to score points to win in this league. And I
- 1:25:52Speaker 13: said that struck me and I was like, I was like,
- 1:25:54Speaker 13: oh God, no further questions.
- 1:25:56Speaker 12: Thank goodness.
- 1:25:57Speaker 5: You know, like he know, shut him out every game
- 1:25:59Speaker 5: you know you'll lose.
- 1:26:01Speaker 12: I would like to.
- 1:26:01Speaker 13: I would hope maybe that that that that meant that
- 1:26:05Speaker 13: he recognizes the way the game is being played offensively
- 1:26:09Speaker 13: and and how you know that that's important and and
- 1:26:12Speaker 13: maybe more important nowadays.
- 1:26:14Speaker 5: I just think that's the most interesting question, is that
- 1:26:16Speaker 5: if it was Mao, who's you know, kind of the
- 1:26:17Speaker 5: GM that you pair them with, and what are they
- 1:26:19Speaker 5: doing offense? Like what is the philosophy they go off
- 1:26:21Speaker 5: to a Patriots guy or is it something completely out
- 1:26:25Speaker 5: of the left field? The run to shoot, the single,
- 1:26:27Speaker 5: the wing t.
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: H Brian and Brighton says Fred's voice when it's time
- 1:26:34Speaker 2: to change, just time to the rearrange.
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: Paul would know that reference.
- 1:26:38Speaker 5: Call him Brady Bush.
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I know a lot.
- 1:26:40Speaker 6: Of the brief Marsha, Masha.
- 1:26:43Speaker 2: Let's go back to the phones. Jim in Florida, what's up, Jim?
- 1:26:48Speaker 20: Hi guys, you've had a lot of young college to
- 1:26:52Speaker 20: give you a little bit older perspective. Yeah, the first
- 1:26:56Speaker 20: game I ever went to was in bu Field, San
- 1:26:59Speaker 20: Diego Charges. It was so long ago I toy remember
- 1:27:03Speaker 20: when it was. So I've grown up through the era
- 1:27:07Speaker 20: of the Sullivan's, Chuck Fairbanks, great Arry. I've seen the
- 1:27:12Speaker 20: worst of the packs in the past twenty five years
- 1:27:15Speaker 20: have been the best twenty five years of my sports life,
- 1:27:18Speaker 20: including the Socks, Secks, and Ruins. But I would just
- 1:27:22Speaker 20: say that I think you know Belichick is he's a
- 1:27:25Speaker 20: defensive genius. I think Mayo was defensive. I think Rabel
- 1:27:31Speaker 20: is defensive. I think this is an offensive league. Now
- 1:27:34Speaker 20: we need an offensive coach, and I would prefer to
- 1:27:37Speaker 20: see Mayo move up the GM.
- 1:27:40Speaker 24: Then hire a young offensive coach, hire.
- 1:27:43Speaker 20: One of these running We need a running quarterback, the
- 1:27:46Speaker 20: drop back quarterback, unless you've got a super super.
- 1:27:49Speaker 24: Offensive line that doesn't fly anymore in this league, if
- 1:27:52Speaker 24: the quarterbacks are going to escape the rush, the mahomes
- 1:27:55Speaker 24: the Lamar Jackson's et Ceta center, I think we need
- 1:27:58Speaker 24: a young running quarterback, a young, uh offensive minded.
- 1:28:02Speaker 20: Coach, and put the Jerrid up there. Our defense is good.
- 1:28:05Speaker 24: We had a good d this year. It's basic and
- 1:28:09Speaker 24: we need offensive coaching.
- 1:28:11Speaker 20: That's my playing from Marco Wild, Florida.
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: All right, thanks Jim, appreciate the golf.
- 1:28:15Speaker 6: Marco Island sounds nice.
- 1:28:17Speaker 5: Mike Callad and Marco Island shirt on in the locker
- 1:28:19Speaker 5: room last week, and I was like, hey, you should
- 1:28:21Speaker 5: go up to the new guy Marco. What's his face?
- 1:28:23Speaker 5: And we like Michael Wilson be like, hey, you know,
- 1:28:24Speaker 5: you should start something here as a cornerback Marco Island.
- 1:28:26Speaker 5: But and he went up to him and did it too,
- 1:28:28Speaker 5: and I don't think it landed there.
- 1:28:29Speaker 6: He didn't land the plane.
- 1:28:32Speaker 5: Should I go off to him?
- 1:28:33Speaker 6: And then and the cal said, thanks dudes.
- 1:28:38Speaker 13: I mean the kid puts pickles on his pizza, so
- 1:28:41Speaker 13: I don't expect much out of cablet.
- 1:28:43Speaker 14: He says, really good.
- 1:28:44Speaker 12: Oh you would say that we have a we have
- 1:28:46Speaker 12: a fight, little ranch drizzle.
- 1:28:48Speaker 14: It's phenomenal.
- 1:28:49Speaker 6: You would you like, don't worry about it, Matt. The
- 1:28:52Speaker 6: youngsters are going to fight now. The kids are going
- 1:28:55Speaker 6: to fight.
- 1:28:56Speaker 13: Every single time I say something that's like obscure food related,
- 1:28:59Speaker 13: Alex Is always like, I like that.
- 1:29:01Speaker 12: I don't know in your body.
- 1:29:04Speaker 14: I would try anything twice. I'm not a picky eater
- 1:29:07Speaker 14: like you.
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: Pineapple and pizza it's fine.
- 1:29:09Speaker 2: No, no, no, I know a lot of people like it,
- 1:29:13Speaker 2: but sweet.
- 1:29:14Speaker 14: I'm not ordering it like for me.
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: But if it's there, don't mess with pizza. It's cheese, pepperoni,
- 1:29:21Speaker 2: or sausage.
- 1:29:23Speaker 6: There's a lot of things.
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: You far away from that, then you're ruining it.
- 1:29:28Speaker 6: Do you remember the old CBS cheeseburger pizza?
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: Yeah, that was good, or you know that was good.
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: White pizza. That's not pizza. It's not pizza. Tomato sauce off,
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: you're a Cali boy.
- 1:29:41Speaker 14: I don't like chicken, bacon ranch.
- 1:29:43Speaker 12: I like barbecue chicken pizzas excellent, excellent California too.
- 1:29:47Speaker 6: Buff chicken is a little bit better, but I but
- 1:29:50Speaker 6: either there's a lot of stuff you can put on
- 1:29:51Speaker 6: a pizza.
- 1:29:52Speaker 12: Tomato sauce doesn't agree.
- 1:29:53Speaker 6: With well sauce. Yeah, he's a little sensy.
- 1:29:59Speaker 12: Don't agree with his spread? What do you want me
- 1:30:02Speaker 12: to say?
- 1:30:03Speaker 2: Sean and Penaluma, California, said fred I sent this Field
- 1:30:06Speaker 2: of Dreams quote to you when Tom left Swallow updated
- 1:30:09Speaker 2: here for Bill. The one constant Through the years, Fred
- 1:30:11Speaker 2: has been Bill. America has rolled by like an army
- 1:30:16Speaker 2: of steamrollers. It has been a raced like a blackboard,
- 1:30:19Speaker 2: rebuilt and raced again. But Bill Belichick has marked the time,
- 1:30:23Speaker 2: this field, this game, It's part of our past. Fred
- 1:30:26Speaker 2: reminds us of all that once was good. It could
- 1:30:29Speaker 2: be good again.
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: Oh, people will come, Fred, people will most definitely come
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: to Gillette Stadium. I hope, so we hope, so yeah.
- 1:30:38Speaker 12: Can we not be so dark about this?
- 1:30:40Speaker 6: Like jeez, that was one of the scenes, like a
- 1:30:42Speaker 6: cut of.
- 1:30:44Speaker 5: Chance.
- 1:30:46Speaker 6: Didn't cry after that either. I was upset. I was
- 1:30:49Speaker 6: upset though.
- 1:30:50Speaker 5: Sorry.
- 1:30:51Speaker 12: One of the greatest sports movies of all time.
- 1:30:54Speaker 6: Chris with a Joe Roberts is right there.
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: Christian says, absolutely cried when Brady left.
- 1:31:01Speaker 2: Cried today. The last two plus decades was fantasy and
- 1:31:05Speaker 2: it was wonderful. I think of my father, who passed
- 1:31:07Speaker 2: away in two thousand and nine. We always watched the
- 1:31:09Speaker 2: games together. The butler picked a secure ring. Number four
- 1:31:12Speaker 2: was on my father's birthday. Butler didn't make the pick.
- 1:31:16Speaker 2: My father reached down from the heaven and he made it. Yes,
- 1:31:19Speaker 2: I'm a lunatic, but that's how much this team means
- 1:31:21Speaker 2: to me.
- 1:31:22Speaker 6: It's not. It's not a lunatic. It's not I know,
- 1:31:25Speaker 6: like I'm getting cast as the heartless. Yeah, TB, it's not.
- 1:31:30Speaker 6: I I know a lot of people that that do that.
- 1:31:34Speaker 6: I know a lot of people that get very emotionally
- 1:31:37Speaker 6: attached to these kinds of times.
- 1:31:40Speaker 13: Yeah, I just you know, I definitely we've talked about
- 1:31:42Speaker 13: it before on the off season. More like I remember
- 1:31:45Speaker 13: as a as a kid that you know, Sunday, I
- 1:31:48Speaker 13: have sports usually in Sunday morning, and then it was
- 1:31:50Speaker 13: always like there was a plan of how we were

- 1:41:49Speaker 6: It was something about something different. I've never thought of
- 1:41:52Speaker 6: Bill as a mediocre coach, and I've never said that
- 1:41:54Speaker 6: he's a mediocre coach. Sorry, I might have said. I
- 1:41:58Speaker 6: might have said something like this, if you want to listen,
- 1:42:01Speaker 6: He's had eight plus years without Tom Brady as his
- 1:42:04Speaker 6: as his quarterback, and in those years he's been a
- 1:42:06Speaker 6: mediocre coach.
- 1:42:07Speaker 5: That's what you said.

- 1:42:15Speaker 5: Very very important qualifier there, Manny.
- 1:42:17Speaker 17: Well, I think then everybody's a media co coach because
- 1:42:20Speaker 17: Tom Brady then.
- 1:42:21Speaker 6: Anyway, and he reads and he reads. Not a mediocre coach.
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: A good point.

- 1:43:47Speaker 29: Hell is everybody?

- 1:43:53Speaker 29: so I apologize for the background noise.
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: But what's on sale today?
- 1:44:00Speaker 29: Just kind of watching some of the coverage this morning
- 1:44:03Speaker 29: on like ESPN and stuff, listening to past players talk
- 1:44:06Speaker 29: about Bill and all of his you know, like the
- 1:44:09Speaker 29: way he was with players and how he's like so different.
- 1:44:12Speaker 29: So obviously he started out as a player's coach, but
- 1:44:15Speaker 29: like when do you guys think that change? And you know,
- 1:44:20Speaker 29: obviously is it possible to get to get back there?
- 1:44:23Speaker 29: And I'll take it off air.
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: Have a good day, all right, Thanks Salana.
- 1:44:27Speaker 5: Of course it's capable. I just what was the question
- 1:44:30Speaker 5: get to? I don't know.
- 1:44:31Speaker 15: I think I heard what it was about Bill kind
- 1:44:33Speaker 15: of starting off as more of a players coach and
- 1:44:35Speaker 15: when that transition kind of happened.
- 1:44:37Speaker 6: I don't remember if Bill was not I mean in
- 1:44:39Speaker 6: the traditional sense of players coach, hard you know, hard ass.
- 1:44:44Speaker 6: Bill was never a players coach.
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: Yeah, but he's always been loyal to his players.
- 1:44:48Speaker 6: Well, yeah, like Parcels is as strict and disciplinarian as anybody,
- 1:44:52Speaker 6: but his players loved him right after, right, you know.
- 1:44:56Speaker 13: I feel like that's so true with it, Like we
- 1:44:58Speaker 13: see a lot of the players now that are outpouring of.
- 1:45:01Speaker 12: Support for Bill. Patriots players.
- 1:45:03Speaker 6: I'm talking about Seymour Chung like yeah, Devin.
- 1:45:07Speaker 12: But even like guys are currently on the team.
- 1:45:09Speaker 6: Oh yeah, Mac Wilson, I saw.
- 1:45:11Speaker 13: Let me just tell you that certain ones did were
- 1:45:14Speaker 13: not singing that tune during the season, right Like, now
- 1:45:16Speaker 13: that it's over, it's one thing to sit there and.
- 1:45:19Speaker 6: Just see what Trent Brown had.
- 1:45:21Speaker 5: He's unaware that.
- 1:45:23Speaker 6: Someone let him know that Bill's not the coach anymore.
- 1:45:27Speaker 6: Think erics, that was always a joke when something happened
- 1:45:31Speaker 6: in we signed Cam Newton. You think Eric knows well?
- 1:45:35Speaker 6: I do still watch the news.
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: Paul in the Colony says, Deuce made the New York Times.
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: He says, yeah, there was an article today Today's the
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: eleventh right, yeah uh.
- 1:45:49Speaker 2: And in it it says his commitment to the garment
- 1:45:51Speaker 2: inspired one football prognosticator to create a hoodie tracker, and
- 1:45:55Speaker 2: it has been the subject of Super Bowl betting.
- 1:45:58Speaker 12: You're so famous, What did I tell you?
- 1:46:00Speaker 14: This morning. Go to the Copyright Office trademark all of that.
- 1:46:04Speaker 13: I'm telling you you this is a joint book between
- 1:46:07Speaker 13: you and Eric Adler, and it's just all the hoodies.
- 1:46:12Speaker 13: And Eric, I'm sure has all the pictures.
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: Of the hoodies.
- 1:46:14Speaker 5: The coffee table.
- 1:46:14Speaker 6: You can describe what it is.
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: Eric has the picture.
- 1:46:17Speaker 6: You have a coffee table.
- 1:46:18Speaker 15: In pre ordering Mike's Coffee Table book, reach.
- 1:46:20Speaker 5: Out, just send us an email.
- 1:46:22Speaker 12: I get a free copy, though, maybe sign it for you.
- 1:46:25Speaker 6: Really that turns into I know you.
- 1:46:28Speaker 5: Don't care about hoodies and you wish this was an
- 1:46:30Speaker 5: x's and o's book.
- 1:46:31Speaker 6: But thanks anyway, nice that was nice touch.
- 1:46:35Speaker 12: That was really thought the.
- 1:46:36Speaker 14: Hoodies behind the x's and o's.
- 1:46:38Speaker 2: You got that out, sweet kid writes in he says,
- 1:46:41Speaker 2: all I have to say is even with the new coach,
- 1:46:44Speaker 2: Eldred will find a way to blame Bill for the
- 1:46:46Speaker 2: next ten years anyway for the lack.
- 1:46:48Speaker 6: Of firepower on the outside.
- 1:46:51Speaker 12: Clinton Johnston.
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: Shutters in Manchester, UK.
- 1:46:56Speaker 2: It's been discussed before, but seems an app question now
- 1:46:59Speaker 2: if on his way out you could get one guaranteed
- 1:47:02Speaker 2: honest answer out a Bill, what question would you ask him?
- 1:47:05Speaker 12: Why did you bench Malcolm Butler.
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: I think a lot of people would want to know that.
- 1:47:09Speaker 12: That's it. It's the only one the rest of them.
- 1:47:11Speaker 13: I feel like we have at least, even if it's
- 1:47:14Speaker 13: like a manufactured answer, we at least kind of can
- 1:47:17Speaker 13: put the dots together.
- 1:47:18Speaker 6: What did you really think of Tom Brady?
- 1:47:21Speaker 5: I know that was what I was gonna say. What
- 1:47:23Speaker 5: did you really think was gonna happen in that Patricia
- 1:47:25Speaker 5: as offensive coordinator?
- 1:47:26Speaker 6: Oh, I think I have the answer to that. Yeah,
- 1:47:27Speaker 6: he thinks it was gonna work.
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:47:29Speaker 5: I would like to hear him say explain it to me.
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:47:32Speaker 2: Thank you Bill for the greatest era ever. You gave
- 1:47:35Speaker 2: a third of your life to us, and we're eternally grateful.
- 1:47:38Speaker 2: Thank you Robert for making what must have been the
- 1:47:40Speaker 2: toughest decision of his life, certainly with the Patriots, but
- 1:47:43Speaker 2: ultimately what is needed to progress the team we all love,
- 1:47:47Speaker 2: and thank you Jonathan for enabling Fred to connect his
- 1:47:50Speaker 2: crew with US fans across the globe over the years
- 1:47:53Speaker 2: in an open and honest way.
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: It's a tough day, it's a reflective day. It's a
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: proud day. Today. We are all Patriots. Who's that shutters
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: from Manchester.
- 1:48:04Speaker 6: That's a really good email, shutters poetic.
- 1:48:07Speaker 5: That's right, Claire's problem problem, Claire's partner problem, Joe says, Alex.
- 1:48:14Speaker 6: I thought you were Claire's partner. No one's been on
- 1:48:17Speaker 6: Claire's podcast more than did you know that?
- 1:48:20Speaker 5: Seven times?
- 1:48:21Speaker 12: Seven times? Super Bowl?
- 1:48:22Speaker 2: You're like, that's Saturday Night Live host.
- 1:48:26Speaker 12: Seven times, you're basically Tom Brady.
- 1:48:28Speaker 2: Alex needs to stop bullying Evan for his night shade sensitivity.
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: What is night shade?
- 1:48:34Speaker 15: Yeah, bulles are tomato, tomatoes, mushrooms.
- 1:48:39Speaker 12: Yeah, Alex stopped bullying me.
- 1:48:41Speaker 14: I don't think night shades are causing your inflammation.
- 1:48:44Speaker 12: I think we can talk about the other part.
- 1:48:47Speaker 5: Gets the three thousand calorie Starbucks drink every morning or
- 1:48:51Speaker 5: maybe seven your.
- 1:48:53Speaker 14: Blood sugar before nine am.
- 1:48:55Speaker 5: I can't gidding, I gotta get to start.
- 1:48:57Speaker 12: Or how about I'm not bullying him.
- 1:48:59Speaker 14: I care about and he's my coworker and you know.
- 1:49:02Speaker 12: Your workplace associates.
- 1:49:07Speaker 14: All right, I'm laying it on harder.
- 1:49:09Speaker 13: I walked in this morning though, and like you, I
- 1:49:12Speaker 13: was hiding under his desk.
- 1:49:13Speaker 12: Yeah, there was multiple people.
- 1:49:15Speaker 6: I'm sorry, what I think that's a violent.
- 1:49:19Speaker 13: I walk in and ta Mary's blowing up my phone
- 1:49:22Speaker 13: and she's like, where are you?
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: Where are you?
- 1:49:23Speaker 13: And I'm like, I'm walking in, and I thought, like
- 1:49:25Speaker 13: we trying to shoot something, right like so I we.
- 1:49:27Speaker 14: Were talking about this morning, and.
- 1:49:29Speaker 13: So I thought maybe that's what, Like I was late
- 1:49:31Speaker 13: to the shoot that you told me wasn't happening. Besides
- 1:49:34Speaker 13: the point, I walk in and all four of them
- 1:49:37Speaker 13: are just like on either under or on my desk, and.
- 1:49:40Speaker 14: They literally standing like trying to.
- 1:49:42Speaker 12: Jump out and scare me. And I was just like,
- 1:49:46Speaker 12: what is going on.
- 1:49:47Speaker 6: I don't know what. I don't know what you're running
- 1:49:49Speaker 6: up there. This lack of professionalism wasn't running an when I.
- 1:49:54Speaker 12: Was up there, I couldn't agree more Paul Wes.
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: It was way worse Wes and Richmond Virginia.
- 1:50:00Speaker 2: I think Bill took the high road, and I give
- 1:50:02Speaker 2: him major respect for standing together with Robert. Robert got
- 1:50:05Speaker 2: his wish, and I think Bill humbled himself by playing along.
- 1:50:08Speaker 2: I've never seen Bill so vulnerable, and I thank him
- 1:50:11Speaker 2: for playing nice for the team and the fans. Having
- 1:50:14Speaker 2: said that, the Patriots now have no quarterback, no coach,
- 1:50:16Speaker 2: and no talent. Welcome back to reality, Patriots fans. Yes,
- 1:50:20Speaker 2: things can get worse than last year. We are now
- 1:50:23Speaker 2: the most irrelevant team in the AFC. Time to open
- 1:50:26Speaker 2: up the check book, Robert.
- 1:50:30Speaker 12: What was the word that he used? Though, vulnerable? That's
- 1:50:33Speaker 12: a good word too.
- 1:50:34Speaker 6: That's another great email. I mean the last part's a
- 1:50:36Speaker 6: little harsh, but yeah, I thought the summation of the
- 1:50:40Speaker 6: day was really good.
- 1:50:41Speaker 13: Vulnerable is a really good word because we always see
- 1:50:44Speaker 13: this like stoic walled up person with Bill, and today
- 1:50:48Speaker 13: he basically just admitted to his own failure, right, like
- 1:50:52Speaker 13: I wasn't good enough.
- 1:50:53Speaker 5: I mean it's kind of I mean, maybe I'm wrong,
- 1:50:55Speaker 5: but it's kind of nice to think about. We're kind
- 1:50:56Speaker 5: of done with that other Bill, Like I feel like
- 1:50:59Speaker 5: the only Bill were ever gonna really have to see
- 1:51:01Speaker 5: and deal with anymore is the Chipper. Remember the good days.
- 1:51:05Speaker 5: Here's a funny story. I've got some quips to share
- 1:51:07Speaker 5: with you guys. Is not if he's going to keep coaching, well,
- 1:51:10Speaker 5: it's the other che's problem, right.
- 1:51:11Speaker 6: But if he's going to keep coaching, you're not going
- 1:51:13Speaker 6: to storytelling.
- 1:51:15Speaker 5: Let him do it.
- 1:51:16Speaker 14: I mean, the Atlanta media just in.
- 1:51:21Speaker 13: We were literally he's walking in to getting fired in
- 1:51:27Speaker 13: front of a room full of media people and he's
- 1:51:29Speaker 13: making jokes about Tim Tebow, Tim.
- 1:51:30Speaker 12: Tebow, and I was like, all right here, like this
- 1:51:33Speaker 12: one didn't.
- 1:51:34Speaker 6: Yeah, I was a little worried when he started with that,
- 1:51:38Speaker 6: because yeah, it's like a lead balloon.
- 1:51:40Speaker 2: But some people criticizing the Patriots for not getting any
- 1:51:44Speaker 2: compensation for Bill, and I just say.
- 1:51:48Speaker 5: You know, like, really I like that third round pick. Whatever.
- 1:51:51Speaker 6: Should I answer the ask pf WS and just write
- 1:51:53Speaker 6: really the question mark no?
- 1:51:54Speaker 2: But I mean, like, are you it just wasn't going
- 1:51:57Speaker 2: to happen When we talked about it before, We're like, like,
- 1:52:00Speaker 2: why would Bill agree to that? Why would another team
- 1:52:04Speaker 2: agree to that?
- 1:52:05Speaker 6: Like just let him go and let's forget about the logistics,
- 1:52:08Speaker 6: because I agree with you, Fred, they're hard hurdles to jump.
- 1:52:14Speaker 6: But do you like sort of the visual I mean,
- 1:52:18Speaker 6: whether you thought it was symbolic or anything else. Did
- 1:52:20Speaker 6: you like what happened today?
- 1:52:21Speaker 5: Yes?
- 1:52:22Speaker 6: Right like I did. Fred said it was kind of
- 1:52:26Speaker 6: what the best you could have hoped for. I think
- 1:52:28Speaker 6: that's how you put it at the very beginning of
- 1:52:29Speaker 6: the show, and I agree, like I didn't expect it
- 1:52:32Speaker 6: to look that cordial. Whether they're both lying or not.
- 1:52:36Speaker 6: I didn't expect it to look that good and it did.
- 1:52:40Speaker 6: And I just think isn't sometimes that more important than Okay, yeah,
- 1:52:45Speaker 6: maybe you could have got a third round pick. Is
- 1:52:48Speaker 6: that worth maybe risking that?
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: Like?
- 1:52:51Speaker 6: I feel like there was some value to be gained
- 1:52:53Speaker 6: by two guys recognizing that what they did was pretty
- 1:52:57Speaker 6: special and understanding that what they did to get other
- 1:53:00Speaker 6: was pretty special.
- 1:53:01Speaker 12: Yeah, but do you think it's.
- 1:53:01Speaker 5: Still possible if he goes to coach for another team
- 1:53:03Speaker 5: that there's some kind of offset in what they owe
- 1:53:06Speaker 5: him as is that.
- 1:53:07Speaker 6: You know, money wise? I think there's probably offset language.
- 1:53:11Speaker 13: Yeah, but I just I couldn't agree more with you,
- 1:53:14Speaker 13: Paul that the compensation versus being able to have Bill
- 1:53:19Speaker 13: Belichick in that mood today and then also just have
- 1:53:23Speaker 13: him a part of the Patriots organization stage for the future,
- 1:53:26Speaker 13: right right, Like that's a that's a guy that along
- 1:53:28Speaker 13: with Brady, Like we should be building a statue for
- 1:53:32Speaker 13: Bill Belichick here someday, Like there should be you know,
- 1:53:35Speaker 13: obviously he's gonna be going into the Patriots Hall of
- 1:53:37Speaker 13: Fame and all that kind of stuff, but it should
- 1:53:39Speaker 13: be more than just that, Like he's r Vince Lombardi.
- 1:53:43Speaker 12: Do you want to do you.
- 1:53:44Speaker 6: Want two statues or do you want a statue together? Yeah,
- 1:53:47Speaker 6: a statue of Bill like with the headset up.
- 1:53:50Speaker 15: Or something and from one of the Super Bowls of
- 1:53:53Speaker 15: the two of them together.
- 1:53:54Speaker 6: Same thing. Yeah, it might be. It could even be
- 1:53:56Speaker 6: the one like what are we doing? We just kick
- 1:53:58Speaker 6: a field goal and the game's over. That was one
- 1:54:00Speaker 6: of my favorite all time moments.
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: Could be three people, Yeah, it could.
- 1:54:04Speaker 14: Be mister I'm cool with that. The Holy Trinity of
- 1:54:07Speaker 14: the New England Patriots.
- 1:54:08Speaker 12: Yep, I think that.
- 1:54:09Speaker 13: You know, that's all statues like Belichick Belichick way like
- 1:54:15Speaker 13: is that you know, like, no, I'm crying stuff like that.
- 1:54:18Speaker 5: This is part of the picture I like. This was
- 1:54:19Speaker 5: after the San Diego game. It's always been a picture
- 1:54:22Speaker 5: that I like showed to the kid. He hasn't you
- 1:54:25Speaker 5: can see it. That's great. It's them too.
- 1:54:28Speaker 6: After the This is the guy who makes fun of
- 1:54:30Speaker 6: you because I can go back over the two minute
- 1:54:32Speaker 6: drive that just happened in the game that was just played.
- 1:54:34Speaker 6: He has a very specific picture ready to go on
- 1:54:37Speaker 6: his phone.
- 1:54:38Speaker 13: It's because it's because you know, Deuce is like his
- 1:54:41Speaker 13: brain is like half Hollywood half Patriots. So like the
- 1:54:44Speaker 13: creative side of things like feeds, the football side is not.
- 1:54:48Speaker 6: He's not wrong, and that was one of my favorite games.
- 1:54:50Speaker 2: I was there Nick and Germany, and he says, I
- 1:54:54Speaker 2: do not really know why, but I cried when Robert
- 1:54:56Speaker 2: calls Bill the goat. I know it had to happen,
- 1:54:59Speaker 2: but it makes me sad that the greatest run of
- 1:55:01Speaker 2: all time comes to an end. It will never be recreated.
- 1:55:04Speaker 2: Thanks Bill for everything. You brought me to football from
- 1:55:06Speaker 2: far away here in Germany.
- 1:55:09Speaker 5: Yeah, that's another thing I would say. I I mean,
- 1:55:11Speaker 5: he part of like hearing people call him a genius,
- 1:55:14Speaker 5: which I always kind of balk at a little bit.
- 1:55:16Speaker 5: But the level of football knowledge he had it inspired
- 1:55:19Speaker 5: me to want to know more about the game and
- 1:55:21Speaker 5: you know, understand the game on a better level than
- 1:55:23Speaker 5: just you know, kid who played high school football and
- 1:55:25Speaker 5: you know, gets the basics of it. Like what what
- 1:55:27Speaker 5: does that mean? How could you be a genius? And
- 1:55:29Speaker 5: you know, when you start to go down that rabbit
- 1:55:31Speaker 5: hole of how much there is to know? I mean
- 1:55:32Speaker 5: Evan obviously is riding that wave too, it's uh, you know,
- 1:55:35Speaker 5: I I never would have known what I think you know,
- 1:55:37Speaker 5: gotten us into the game as I did without you know,
- 1:55:39Speaker 5: his kind of knowledge that you know inspired me.
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: All right, Uh, back to the phones. Let's go to
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: dominic in California.
- 1:55:47Speaker 2: Hey, dominic, dominic, good job going once twice, three times?
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: You're out? UHJ and KSE. What's up?
- 1:55:59Speaker 9: CJ?
- 1:56:00Speaker 17: Hey, what's up?
- 1:56:01Speaker 6: Guys?
- 1:56:02Speaker 30: I can't say enough about you know, obviously what Belichick
- 1:56:05Speaker 30: meant to the organization and you know, all the great
- 1:56:09Speaker 30: things that gott into the experience while he's been the
- 1:56:13Speaker 30: head coach here. My question is about kind of leaning.
- 1:56:17Speaker 17: Towards the future.
- 1:56:18Speaker 30: What do you think the expectations are going to be
- 1:56:20Speaker 30: following the greatest coach of all time with a third
- 1:56:23Speaker 30: overall pick, coming off of back to back losing seasons
- 1:56:26Speaker 30: in a market that's used to winning a lot. Do
- 1:56:29Speaker 30: you think that that the their first pick, the new
- 1:56:31Speaker 30: head coach coming in their first pick is going to
- 1:56:33Speaker 30: determine if they're here for three years or tad.
- 1:56:37Speaker 5: I mean, they got to hit on that third overall pick.
- 1:56:39Speaker 5: I mean that's you know, I think that's.
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: I would say they have to hit on at least
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: three picks in as draft.
- 1:56:45Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, I mean they've got some pieces. I mean,
- 1:56:47Speaker 5: the person that rode in and said that they're completely bare,
- 1:56:49Speaker 5: and I don't I don't agree with that. Maybe offensively,
- 1:56:51Speaker 5: it's as easier to make that argument, but they've got
- 1:56:53Speaker 5: some pieces on defense, no question, you know. But as
- 1:56:56Speaker 5: we've talked about it, it's an offensive league. That's what
- 1:56:58Speaker 5: has to happen. But look, they just got to start
- 1:57:00Speaker 5: stacking good drafts. And you know, how do they approach
- 1:57:02Speaker 5: this free agency class. Are they gonna, you know, go
- 1:57:05Speaker 5: all in on a couple of big pieces or are
- 1:57:06Speaker 5: they gonna try to spread it out a little bit
- 1:57:08Speaker 5: and try to fill some of the holes that way?
- 1:57:10Speaker 5: But the end of the day, hit in the draft.
- 1:57:13Speaker 5: That's the only way.
- 1:57:13Speaker 9: Out of it.
- 1:57:14Speaker 1: Yep, all right, thanks CJ. What do we got, Tyler?
- 1:57:20Speaker 2: Look, I know I'm in the minority, but I don't
- 1:57:23Speaker 2: want to see Bill go I think it's really hard
- 1:57:26Speaker 2: to find a quality head coach and I see teams
- 1:57:28Speaker 2: like the Jets, Commanders, Bears go through them like water.
- 1:57:32Speaker 2: I'm not arguing the criticism isn't warranted, but the last
- 1:57:35Speaker 2: thing I want to see is Bill do what Brady
- 1:57:37Speaker 2: did and go to another team and win a Super Bowl.
- 1:57:39Speaker 2: I think the issue is we didn't have a decent
- 1:57:42Speaker 2: quarterback since Brady left. I believe if we had a
- 1:57:45Speaker 2: competent quarterback play we are a playoff team. Mac had
- 1:57:48Speaker 2: a rough year with Patricia, but others like Trevor Lawrence
- 1:57:51Speaker 2: dealing with Urban Meyer, Justin Fields having three offensive coordinators,
- 1:57:55Speaker 2: or Baker Mayfield have overcome far worse circums dances. I
- 1:58:00Speaker 2: think Mac isn't good if he wins the Super Bowl
- 1:58:03Speaker 2: with another team. I hope Greg Badard keeps the same
- 1:58:05Speaker 2: energy about Bill.
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: I don't know what that last part means.
- 1:58:09Speaker 6: I don't either, but I just would say, and again,
- 1:58:13Speaker 6: I don't blame people for feeling that way about Bill.
- 1:58:16Speaker 6: I just I mean, his record speaks for itself. But
- 1:58:20Speaker 6: I just wonder, like all of these teams that recycle coaches, Yeah,
- 1:58:26Speaker 6: when they have four or five bad years, usually they're
- 1:58:29Speaker 6: already gone by then. And I just think people, I
- 1:58:33Speaker 6: think there's something like, you go back to the you
- 1:58:38Speaker 6: remember the most miserable eight no team in the league
- 1:58:40Speaker 6: When the Patriots went to Baltimore in twenty nineteen, and
- 1:58:45Speaker 6: Belichick told Al I mean, Brady told Al Michaels, I'm
- 1:58:49Speaker 6: the most miserable eight no quarterback in the league. There's
- 1:58:52Speaker 6: something like thirty three and forty four since then. That
- 1:58:57Speaker 6: counts nine games with Brady Dount, sixteen games with Cam Newton,
- 1:59:02Speaker 6: it counts two plus years with Mac Jones, and now
- 1:59:08Speaker 6: about a half a year with Bailey Zappy. They in
- 1:59:12Speaker 6: that time are also zero to two in the playoffs,
- 1:59:14Speaker 6: including I think the most lopsided defeat in the playoffs
- 1:59:19Speaker 6: absolutely in that timeframe. So yeah, you could sit there
- 1:59:24Speaker 6: and say we had a great coach, but I think
- 1:59:27Speaker 6: the argument to be made about they needed a quarterback. Yeah, well,
- 1:59:33Speaker 6: then a lot of teams can say that. I think
- 1:59:36Speaker 6: the Atlanta Falcons right now probably think that they're good
- 1:59:39Speaker 6: quarterback play away from being in the playoffs. You know,
- 1:59:43Speaker 6: I think there's a lot of teams that say that
- 1:59:47Speaker 6: if he's different than the other coaches, then it shouldn't
- 1:59:50Speaker 6: matter as much. But it proved to matter just as
- 1:59:54Speaker 6: much as it did for everybody else.
- 1:59:55Speaker 5: And if it's the case, why didn't you do more
- 1:59:57Speaker 5: at quarterback? You know? Right, can Zappy? Last offseason you
- 2:00:01Speaker 5: had the chance to get somebody else to, you know,
- 2:00:03Speaker 5: at least compete with those guys.
- 2:00:04Speaker 6: The last thing I would say too about Bill. And
- 2:00:08Speaker 6: this is kind of weird to think of when he
- 2:00:11Speaker 6: came here in two thousand, I think he was forty
- 2:00:13Speaker 6: eight something like that. I forget, but let's just say
- 2:00:17Speaker 6: for argument's sake, he was ten years younger. So now
- 2:00:22Speaker 6: instead of being seventy one, he's only sixty one, I'd
- 2:00:26Speaker 6: be fighting harder for him to stay because I think
- 2:00:28Speaker 6: there'd be time for him to turn it around. I
- 2:00:30Speaker 6: know he can do it because he won six titles.
- 2:00:33Speaker 6: I know he has the ability to coach at that level.
- 2:00:36Speaker 6: I know he does. It's fact he did it. You know,
- 2:00:39Speaker 6: he went to all those Super Bowls, he won all
- 2:00:41Speaker 6: those conference titles. You know. But at seventy one, I'm
- 2:00:49Speaker 6: not as sure that he has enough time to turn
- 2:00:51Speaker 6: it around. I know that he can go somewhere, and
- 2:00:54Speaker 6: I won't cry if he goes somewhere else, and it's
- 2:00:57Speaker 6: not going to make me upset because I know he's
- 2:00:59Speaker 6: a great coach. I'm not just like I wasn't stunned
- 2:01:01Speaker 6: that Brady had success at Tampa. I'm not going to
- 2:01:04Speaker 6: be stunned. If Bill goes somewhere that has the pieces
- 2:01:08Speaker 6: in place already, I would be stunned if he went
- 2:01:10Speaker 6: to Carolina and won a super Bowl in two years.
- 2:01:13Speaker 6: I'd be stunned if he went to Washington and won
- 2:01:15Speaker 6: a super Bowl in two years. But I won't be
- 2:01:17Speaker 6: stunned if he goes to the Chargers, or he goes
- 2:01:19Speaker 6: to the Falcons, or he goes to the Cowboys and
- 2:01:22Speaker 6: has a lot of success in his two years, right
- 2:01:25Speaker 6: because he's a great coach.
- 2:01:27Speaker 2: Alex and Mount Holly, I'm happy we get to finally
- 2:01:30Speaker 2: talk about something else than the draft, but sad it's
- 2:01:33Speaker 2: about seeing the legends of Pete Carroll, Nick Saban, and
- 2:01:36Speaker 2: Bill Belichick all leaving their head coach role for other endeavors.
- 2:01:40Speaker 2: So in the last twenty four hours, three coaches who
- 2:01:42Speaker 2: arguably built four of the top five most feared brands
- 2:01:46Speaker 2: across football NFL college combined nearly early in the mid
- 2:01:52Speaker 2: two I don't know he goes.
- 2:01:54Speaker 6: On, I said, Pete USC in Seattle and then saving Alabama.
- 2:02:00Speaker 2: I don't think we will truly feel the presence missed
- 2:02:02Speaker 2: until twenty twenty four seasons kickoff.
- 2:02:05Speaker 6: You know what's amazing, you had all of that, like
- 2:02:07Speaker 6: on a regular year, just the Mike Rabel firing would
- 2:02:12Speaker 6: have been the story of the off season. It didn't
- 2:02:15Speaker 6: even last more than a day in this cycle.
- 2:02:19Speaker 5: Yeah, crazy, Yeah.
- 2:02:21Speaker 6: Because Mike Rabel's firing was a huge transaction, huge.
- 2:02:26Speaker 5: Did you were you surprised about coming out about them
- 2:02:29Speaker 5: not liking what he said here when he Oh.
- 2:02:31Speaker 14: No, I said it at the time in the moment, Yeah.
- 2:02:34Speaker 6: Yeah, that would have not said. I mean, I don't
- 2:02:36Speaker 6: think that's why you got fired, but it was a
- 2:02:38Speaker 6: part of it. It was part of it. Rob, I
- 2:02:41Speaker 6: would not have sat well with me.
- 2:02:42Speaker 2: Robin san Diego via Connecticut. I've come to realize if
- 2:02:45Speaker 2: Fred knows many things such as how tides work and
- 2:02:47Speaker 2: what constitutes an Italian sub. Over the past month, I've
- 2:02:51Speaker 2: heard him say, paraphrasing that he thinks Bill is leaving
- 2:02:54Speaker 2: after this year. Was this the sentiment for the rest
- 2:02:56Speaker 2: of the crew and what made Fred believe that this
- 2:02:59Speaker 2: would be the case? Was there a specific event or
- 2:03:02Speaker 2: series of events. I honestly thought for a moment after
- 2:03:05Speaker 2: Bill's last press conference that he might stay on as
- 2:03:08Speaker 2: head coach and relinquish other duties.
- 2:03:11Speaker 5: I mean I never felt sure. I mean, I you know,
- 2:03:13Speaker 5: we were.
- 2:03:15Speaker 6: Curious, you know, for me. The day they lost thirty
- 2:03:18Speaker 6: four to nothing in to the Saints. I said, he's gone.
- 2:03:21Speaker 6: That In my mind, that email sort of made it
- 2:03:23Speaker 6: seem like it was Bill's choice.
- 2:03:25Speaker 9: I don't think it was.
- 2:03:27Speaker 5: And I think Germany was a huge piece of it too,
- 2:03:29Speaker 5: just you know, being their first hand, seeing how much
- 2:03:30Speaker 5: went into that trip and final mail. Poorly the team played.
- 2:03:34Speaker 5: They didn't even score a touchdown there. That that to me,
- 2:03:37Speaker 5: it was it was hard to imagine coming back from that.
- 2:03:39Speaker 2: What's What's a word that the Patriots or the Crafts
- 2:03:42Speaker 2: have always used a lot when determining whether they should
- 2:03:46Speaker 2: sign a player or draft a player, begins with a
- 2:03:50Speaker 2: V value value You got it? So when you're paying
- 2:03:54Speaker 2: a guy, when you're paying the guy the most of
- 2:03:57Speaker 2: any coach in sports, and you're seven to nine or
- 2:04:02Speaker 2: eight and nine or four and thirteen, are.
- 2:04:06Speaker 1: You getting value?
- 2:04:07Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 2:04:08Speaker 1: And I think that was a big determining factor.
- 2:04:12Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 2:04:12Speaker 5: I mean we can talk about oh one and the change,
- 2:04:15Speaker 5: you know that, like how things kind of went downhill
- 2:04:16Speaker 5: at the end, But you know, twenty twenty, I gave
- 2:04:20Speaker 5: I gave him a pass. Like it's just that this team,
- 2:04:22Speaker 5: it's like the COVID year. Brady's gone like, let's just
- 2:04:25Speaker 5: you know, sit back and let him have a reset year,
- 2:04:27Speaker 5: don't be too crazy about it. And it felt like
- 2:04:29Speaker 5: they got back on track in twenty one, and then
- 2:04:31Speaker 5: it was just I think from the moment they drafted
- 2:04:34Speaker 5: Mac it was like all kind of downhill from there.
- 2:04:36Speaker 5: Like they had a little bit of that that you
- 2:04:38Speaker 5: know thing in twenty twenty one, but the twenty twenty
- 2:04:41Speaker 5: two draft, the patricia of it all, the way that
- 2:04:43Speaker 5: the offense just looked completely discombobulated for the you know,
- 2:04:47Speaker 5: the whole season, and then somehow it got worse this year.
- 2:04:49Speaker 5: It's just no coach is going to survive that kind
- 2:04:51Speaker 5: of just.
- 2:04:52Speaker 2: A reminder that around two o'clock, Robert Kraft will have
- 2:04:56Speaker 2: a Q and a press conference. We will be covering
- 2:04:58Speaker 2: that live on this show, so you don't have to
- 2:05:00Speaker 2: go anywhere. Just stick with the show and as soon
- 2:05:04Speaker 2: as that goes live, we'll go to it and then
- 2:05:06Speaker 2: we'll talk about it, much like Hardy does on his
- 2:05:09Speaker 2: music shows, talk about it.
- 2:05:11Speaker 5: Are we going to say picks for the end?
- 2:05:13Speaker 1: Oh? I forget about picks.
- 2:05:14Speaker 6: We can do it after right, we only have six games,
- 2:05:18Speaker 6: although we do have to have a bit of a
- 2:05:20Speaker 6: celebration for the Queen.
- 2:05:22Speaker 14: Did you guys get me a sash?
- 2:05:24Speaker 5: No?
- 2:05:25Speaker 6: Matt, do we have a tiara?
- 2:05:27Speaker 2: For Travis in West Virginia has a question for Paul.
- 2:05:31Speaker 2: Please explain, Please explain.
- 2:05:33Speaker 1: Why the media got their wish is not accurate?
- 2:05:36Speaker 6: Seems spot on to me because I don't know anybody
- 2:05:39Speaker 6: that was pining for this day. I don't, Okay, do you.
- 2:05:50Speaker 1: Well? I know a lot of people who thought it
- 2:05:52Speaker 1: was the right thing to do.
- 2:05:53Speaker 6: Oh, but that's different, right, I would put myself in
- 2:05:55Speaker 6: that category, right. I think Robert Kraft made the right
- 2:05:58Speaker 6: move for the New England Patriots to Yeah, doesn't mean
- 2:06:01Speaker 6: I was like holding voodoo dolls up, you know, and
- 2:06:04Speaker 6: sticking him in. Bill's the body trying to get him
- 2:06:08Speaker 6: out of here.
- 2:06:08Speaker 1: There's a couple of people that might have been.
- 2:06:11Speaker 6: I don't think there were too many, like I really don't.
- 2:06:13Speaker 6: I think a former linebacker, Uh yeah, I've talked to
- 2:06:19Speaker 6: him about it, and he thinks he's great. He has
- 2:06:21Speaker 6: a lot of personal and you're talking about Ted Johnson.
- 2:06:25Speaker 6: He has a lot of personal animosity and he does
- 2:06:28Speaker 6: not make any bones about it. But I've never heard
- 2:06:30Speaker 6: a guy talk about a coach the way he talks
- 2:06:32Speaker 6: about Belichick. Belichick and Parcels Man, does he love both
- 2:06:36Speaker 6: of those guys like as coaches football coaches now he
- 2:06:40Speaker 6: liked Parcels the person better than they liked Belichick the person.
- 2:06:43Speaker 5: I mean, I just think, generally speaking, if you're covering
- 2:06:45Speaker 5: a team, isn't it better for you to be going
- 2:06:47Speaker 5: to Super Bowls and AFC Championships?
- 2:06:50Speaker 9: There?
- 2:06:50Speaker 6: Okay, I think we think we're up.
- 2:06:51Speaker 1: All right, let's go to Robert Craft.
- 2:06:53Speaker 10: I want to thank you all for sticking around, and
- 2:07:00Speaker 10: it's a very emotional day for the organization, and you know,
- 2:07:08Speaker 10: the end of an era, Like I said, that'll be
- 2:07:12Speaker 10: hard to be replicated, I think, at least in my
- 2:07:18Speaker 10: lifetime if ever. And you know, I know you all
- 2:07:26Speaker 10: made the effort to be here, so I'd like to
- 2:07:29Speaker 10: do whatever we can talking about Bill and the time
- 2:07:36Speaker 10: he's spent here, the future. I know there'll be a
- 2:07:40Speaker 10: lot of questions about the future, and we'll have a
- 2:07:44Speaker 10: chance to cover that in the next few days, but
- 2:07:50Speaker 10: I'm not sure today is the time to do it.
- 2:08:04Speaker 31: Robert, in speaking about Bill, you reference him as the
- 2:08:08Speaker 31: greatest of all time, and you said that's part of
- 2:08:10Speaker 31: what made this such a hard decision, but that you
- 2:08:13Speaker 31: both felt it was the best decision. Why did you
- 2:08:16Speaker 31: feel it was the right decision?
- 2:08:21Speaker 9: Well, the last three years have been pretty tough, and
- 2:08:28Speaker 9: I know.
- 2:08:31Speaker 10: For our dedicated fans and myself and you know, in life,
- 2:08:36Speaker 10: I just learned things happen and our family is the
- 2:08:43Speaker 10: custodian of this asset, the New England Patriots, and we
- 2:08:48Speaker 10: know how important it is to the psyche of the
- 2:08:50Speaker 10: community and what's going on here the last three four
- 2:08:55Speaker 10: years isn't what we want, so we have a responsibility
- 2:09:00Speaker 10: to do what we can to fix it to the
- 2:09:03Speaker 10: best of our ability.
- 2:09:08Speaker 32: Robert, There's been a narrative out there for years that
- 2:09:12Speaker 32: people say it was all Tom Brady. You know, when
- 2:09:14Speaker 32: it comes to what happened on the field with this
- 2:09:16Speaker 32: football team, how much in your eyes was it Tom
- 2:09:19Speaker 32: Brady and Bill Belichick when it comes to everything that's
- 2:09:22Speaker 32: been accomplished over the last twenty four seasons.
- 2:09:27Speaker 9: Ye know, it's it's not the first time I've heard
- 2:09:30Speaker 9: that question.
- 2:09:32Speaker 10: But you know why I love the NFL and why
- 2:09:39Speaker 10: I think it's great for young people to play it.
- 2:09:44Speaker 10: It's a great lesson in life because I don't think
- 2:09:48Speaker 10: there's anything else, any other sport, or any other experience
- 2:09:54Speaker 10: that's as much team based and collective base as football.
- 2:10:02Speaker 10: And I don't think either one of those two would
- 2:10:07Speaker 10: have accomplished what they accomplished if they weren't together. And
- 2:10:12Speaker 10: it's you know, I think they were both the best
- 2:10:18Speaker 10: at their professions, and you know, we were lucky to
- 2:10:22Speaker 10: have them together for two decades.
- 2:10:28Speaker 33: Robert Bill mentioned earlier this week that he is under contract,
- 2:10:32Speaker 33: or he was under contract for next season. Did you
- 2:10:35Speaker 33: give any consideration to trading him try to recoup some
- 2:10:39Speaker 33: compensation for him.
- 2:10:41Speaker 10: Yeah, that's an interesting question. You know, unfortunate in our family.
- 2:10:51Speaker 10: Our businesses are all private, and so we try to
- 2:10:56Speaker 10: create a culture and develop an environment where people want
- 2:11:03Speaker 10: to stay and stay long term. And yeah, I guess
- 2:11:10Speaker 10: if you look at this as a transaction, you know,
- 2:11:15Speaker 10: he is so valuable, and how we could extract something.
- 2:11:20Speaker 9: I didn't think that was right.
- 2:11:21Speaker 10: I didn't think it was right for Tom Brady, who
- 2:11:24Speaker 10: gave us twenty years, and I don't think it's right
- 2:11:28Speaker 10: for Bill that I think each of them earned the
- 2:11:34Speaker 10: right to be in a position where they should do
- 2:11:36Speaker 10: what's right for us, given what they have done. For
- 2:11:40Speaker 10: this franchise. So some people might criticize me for not
- 2:11:47Speaker 10: you know, extracting as much value, and I understand that.
- 2:11:51Speaker 10: But we just try to do what we think is
- 2:11:55Speaker 10: right for their proper values and ability to operate and
- 2:12:01Speaker 10: try to get people who want to come and feel
- 2:12:04Speaker 10: that we're going to treat them fairly.
- 2:12:09Speaker 34: Hey, Robert, this being such an emotional day and seeing
- 2:12:14Speaker 34: you and Bill together and the emotions that you guys shared,
- 2:12:18Speaker 34: it makes you wonder do you have any reservations at
- 2:12:21Speaker 34: all whether or not this is the right decision in
- 2:12:25Speaker 34: any way.
- 2:12:29Speaker 9: Yeah, that's a good question.
- 2:12:34Speaker 10: You know, this is a results business and certain things
- 2:12:38Speaker 10: in life, it's instinctual. I think both of us felt
- 2:12:44Speaker 10: that the time was right for each of us to
- 2:12:49Speaker 10: go off in our separate directions. But you know what
- 2:12:54Speaker 10: was really I mean, you all know Bill. You know
- 2:12:57Speaker 10: Bill as well as I do. For him to say
- 2:13:02Speaker 10: he'll always be a patriot, and you know it gives us.
- 2:13:08Speaker 9: I mean, that's great. And you know, the last.
- 2:13:12Speaker 10: Few days of since Mondays, since we've been thinking about
- 2:13:16Speaker 10: it and talking about it, I think our relationship went
- 2:13:22Speaker 10: to a new place because you know, this is very
- 2:13:26Speaker 10: hard any of you who are in. It's like a
- 2:13:31Speaker 10: marriage and things don't always go great, and you know,
- 2:13:36Speaker 10: you get through the difficult times and it makes the
- 2:13:39Speaker 10: relationship stronger. And I think we had a chance to
- 2:13:43Speaker 10: do that over the last almost quarter of a century.
- 2:13:47Speaker 10: So I think both of us felt that at this
- 2:13:51Speaker 10: point in time it was in our mutual interests to
- 2:13:56Speaker 10: each go our own way. But knowing that we have
- 2:14:01Speaker 10: that bond and foundation, that's really hard in this business
- 2:14:06Speaker 10: to create, very hard.
- 2:14:10Speaker 9: Anyhow, Hi, Robert.
- 2:14:14Speaker 35: On Monday, Bill spoke about the possibility of relinquishing some
- 2:14:19Speaker 35: of his duties in the personnel department. How much consideration
- 2:14:23Speaker 35: did you give to retaining Bill but maybe adjusting his role.
- 2:14:29Speaker 9: Yeah, we've thought about that, but.
- 2:14:33Speaker 10: You know, I've had experience running different businesses and trying
- 2:14:39Speaker 10: to develop a team, and think about it.
- 2:14:43Speaker 9: When you have someone like.
- 2:14:44Speaker 10: Bill who's had control over every decision, every coach we hire,
- 2:14:53Speaker 10: every the organization reports to him on the draft and
- 2:15:00Speaker 10: how much money we spend or what every decision has
- 2:15:04Speaker 10: been his and we've always supported him to then take
- 2:15:10Speaker 10: some of that power away and give it to someone else.
- 2:15:15Speaker 10: Accountability is important to me in every one of our companies,
- 2:15:19Speaker 10: and where he had the responsibility, and then someone else
- 2:15:25Speaker 10: takes it, it's gonna set up.
- 2:15:29Speaker 9: Confusion.
- 2:15:30Speaker 10: And you know, well it was his pick and that
- 2:15:34Speaker 10: was a bad pick, you know, or he didn't play
- 2:15:37Speaker 10: him right, or you know, it just it wouldn't work
- 2:15:41Speaker 10: in my opinion.
- 2:15:44Speaker 9: Yeah, hey, Robert Over, I got the lights there.
- 2:15:50Speaker 36: You know, I just to piggyback on what Nicole said,
- 2:15:52Speaker 36: because I think what you're saying is it would be
- 2:15:53Speaker 36: really complicated to shift rolls that way. You know, I
- 2:15:57Speaker 36: want to listen to another grocery argument or whatever.
- 2:16:00Speaker 9: But twenty four years.
- 2:16:01Speaker 36: Ago, you did make the decision to consolidate the power
- 2:16:04Speaker 36: with the coach, and there are very few teams that
- 2:16:07Speaker 36: are run that way anymore. Was part of this, maybe
- 2:16:10Speaker 36: you making the decision that somebody having that much power
- 2:16:14Speaker 36: was too much. And the way the league set up
- 2:16:16Speaker 36: is very different than it was a generation ago, where
- 2:16:20Speaker 36: that job needs to be divided.
- 2:16:22Speaker 10: Now, well, that's a good point, just to be clear.
- 2:16:28Speaker 10: He didn't have all that power and rights. I don't
- 2:16:36Speaker 10: think it happened till after the third Super Bowl, but
- 2:16:41Speaker 10: it slowly happened, and you know, in my opinion, he
- 2:16:45Speaker 10: earned it and it worked pretty well. For most of
- 2:16:51Speaker 10: the time. But all of us need checks and balances
- 2:16:56Speaker 10: in our life. We need what I say, I call it,
- 2:17:01Speaker 10: we need doctor knows around us, people to protect ourselves
- 2:17:06Speaker 10: from ourselves, protect us from ourselves. And you know, as
- 2:17:13Speaker 10: things evolved and you get more power, sometimes people are
- 2:17:21Speaker 10: afraid to speak up. And I'm speaking about all companies
- 2:17:25Speaker 10: and I don't. I think it's good to have checks
- 2:17:29Speaker 10: and balances, and but once you have it, it's kind
- 2:17:33Speaker 10: of hard to pull it away and expect to have
- 2:17:37Speaker 10: the accountability you want.
- 2:17:42Speaker 7: Rob do you and Bill have any plans sort of
- 2:17:46Speaker 7: off campus at some point to bring closure to all this?
- 2:17:50Speaker 8: Or is what we saw at noontime? The closure?
- 2:17:55Speaker 10: Now, we we had some long discussions, and I think
- 2:18:02Speaker 10: it's awkward, you know, while he's still coaching to bring closure.
- 2:18:11Speaker 10: But I hope when that's all over, we can do
- 2:18:14Speaker 10: something that properly honors him and respects him for what
- 2:18:20Speaker 10: he's done with us. And everything in life is the
- 2:18:25Speaker 10: proper timing. So we're gonna have to wait for that.
- 2:18:32Speaker 16: Robert, in your mind, watching this team over the last
- 2:18:35Speaker 16: three or four three losing seasons in four years, four
- 2:18:37Speaker 16: and thirteen, this year, what's the biggest reason in your
- 2:18:40Speaker 16: mind on why the team has fallen to this point.
- 2:18:46Speaker 10: Well, I'm not sure I'm qualified to answer that you
- 2:18:51Speaker 10: might be better than I.
- 2:18:57Speaker 9: I don't know.
- 2:18:58Speaker 10: You know, so many games we're close, you know, is
- 2:19:06Speaker 10: it the coaching, is that the personnel. I something isn't
- 2:19:13Speaker 10: quite right from where it was, And I'm not smart
- 2:19:23Speaker 10: enough I think to give you a credible answer.
- 2:19:30Speaker 37: Now that we have you, Robert, throughout the course of
- 2:19:33Speaker 37: the season, as the losses were sort of piling up,
- 2:19:36Speaker 37: did you ever talk to Bill about this potentially being
- 2:19:39Speaker 37: it for him, what he would have to do throughout
- 2:19:41Speaker 37: the rest of the season to keep his job, or
- 2:19:44Speaker 37: just the thoughts that you had, you know, as October
- 2:19:46Speaker 37: old into November and has now brought us here to
- 2:19:48Speaker 37: a four and thirteen season.
- 2:19:52Speaker 9: You know.
- 2:19:55Speaker 10: This is this is a business that you you have
- 2:20:00Speaker 10: to wait till the season's over. You you can't be
- 2:20:03Speaker 10: a fan when you have the responsibility of making strategic
- 2:20:10Speaker 10: decisions that aren't short term or what I call transactional
- 2:20:15Speaker 10: base on one incident, and you know, you change, You
- 2:20:23Speaker 10: change your you change your mind. Things change so fast.
- 2:20:28Speaker 10: I mean you look at some teams in the league
- 2:20:31Speaker 10: who started out so hot and then they lose five
- 2:20:35Speaker 10: or six games, and I'm you know, the thing with
- 2:20:39Speaker 10: Bill that was unique and special is his work ethic
- 2:20:46Speaker 10: is so strong, and that's what I looked at He
- 2:20:51Speaker 10: He always gave us the best he had. There wasn't
- 2:20:55Speaker 10: a shortage of effort. Now, whether he has the right
- 2:20:59Speaker 10: people around them or selected the right players that we
- 2:21:03Speaker 10: all can make judgment on, but he was always giving
- 2:21:06Speaker 10: it his all, and that's what was most important to me.
- 2:21:14Speaker 23: Hi, Robert, I can over the twenty four years and
- 2:21:19Speaker 23: beyond that you've known Bill, what's the biggest thing you've
- 2:21:25Speaker 23: learned from him or learned from knowing him?
- 2:21:36Speaker 9: You're saying football related.
- 2:21:43Speaker 10: Yeah, I'm not sure I can say one thing that
- 2:21:49Speaker 10: The thing that always amazed me with him, and I
- 2:21:53Speaker 10: get exposed to a lot of people, is he He's
- 2:21:59Speaker 10: the the only person I've met with the football intellect
- 2:22:04Speaker 10: and the knowledge. And I think part of that went
- 2:22:08Speaker 10: back to his dad and the training he got, but
- 2:22:12Speaker 10: also how he absorbed it as a little kid watching
- 2:22:16Speaker 10: film with his dad. But what I saw in ninety
- 2:22:22Speaker 10: six when he got fired by the Browns and Bill
- 2:22:28Speaker 10: Parcell said you should go out and meet him, he's gonna,
- 2:22:31Speaker 10: I think, go to Miami, and we should get him
- 2:22:35Speaker 10: here because he had worked with him at the Giants,
- 2:22:39Speaker 10: you know, and said how good he was. And I
- 2:22:42Speaker 10: remember I went out in ninety six and spoke with
- 2:22:47Speaker 10: him at the combine and he agreed to come join us.
- 2:22:51Speaker 10: And then I saw the impact he had in that
- 2:22:57Speaker 10: season coaching this secondary and how he could relate to
- 2:23:01Speaker 10: the players what was that twenty seven or eight years ago,
- 2:23:08Speaker 10: and how he knew how to give information complicated that
- 2:23:13Speaker 10: they could relate to. And remember we went to the
- 2:23:16Speaker 10: super Bowl that year, but we won. The last seven
- 2:23:20Speaker 10: games were mainly defensive oriented, and I thought to myself,
- 2:23:27Speaker 10: here's a guy who can relate to the players at
- 2:23:32Speaker 10: that level, but also has the football intellect and understands
- 2:23:38Speaker 10: the economics of the game. That understands because most coaches
- 2:23:44Speaker 10: coming into the mid nineties and late nineties didn't know
- 2:23:48Speaker 10: how to put value, coming into a salary cap where
- 2:23:52Speaker 10: you had the parody of budgets. He had the greatest
- 2:23:56Speaker 10: ability to relate the two things. Now, I think, you
- 2:24:02Speaker 10: know a lot of his contemporaries, younger contemporars have caught
- 2:24:06Speaker 10: up with some of that, but I don't think there's
- 2:24:08Speaker 10: anyone like him that has the compositive knowledge. So that
- 2:24:13Speaker 10: always impressed me. And then he can pull something out
- 2:24:17Speaker 10: of the ear, you know, and quote thirty years ago,
- 2:24:22Speaker 10: some play in some game, and for those of us
- 2:24:26Speaker 10: that have some short term memory lapses, that really impressed me.
- 2:24:35Speaker 38: Hi, Robert, in regards to the power structure that Belichick
- 2:24:39Speaker 38: had in the upcoming power structure, I was curious, will
- 2:24:42Speaker 38: you look to acquire a general manager first, and what
- 2:24:46Speaker 38: do you see as the timeline in regards to the
- 2:24:49Speaker 38: hiring process with the football structure up top in the
- 2:24:52Speaker 38: head coach.
- 2:24:53Speaker 9: Well, the question you're asking is very important.
- 2:24:58Speaker 10: Until we settle what we settled yesterday and announced today,
- 2:25:04Speaker 10: we will try to move very quickly to solve those
- 2:25:10Speaker 10: issues and we'll have a chance to talk about that
- 2:25:14Speaker 10: in the very near future.
- 2:25:23Speaker 39: Robert, I know you talked about the amicable split in
- 2:25:26Speaker 39: both sides deciding this is the right thing to do.
- 2:25:28Speaker 39: But I'm curious of Monday if at some point in
- 2:25:31Speaker 39: your meeting did Bill fight for his job. We heard
- 2:25:33Speaker 39: Pete Carroll sort of talk about that yesterday, like I
- 2:25:35Speaker 39: fought for it but then realized this was the best
- 2:25:37Speaker 39: way to go.
- 2:25:43Speaker 10: You know, we have had a partnership where we've gone
- 2:25:48Speaker 10: through all kinds of situations.
- 2:25:50Speaker 9: This was really unique.
- 2:25:54Speaker 10: And you know, I have a saying when I'm making
- 2:26:00Speaker 10: important decisions, I try to measure nine times and cut
- 2:26:05Speaker 10: once because you want to be sure. And this is
- 2:26:10Speaker 10: one of those times. We went through the season we
- 2:26:13Speaker 10: went through, which is three seasons like this, and you
- 2:26:18Speaker 10: realize how capable he is, and you know, you try
- 2:26:24Speaker 10: to understand why you wound up where you are, and
- 2:26:29Speaker 10: it just.
- 2:26:31Speaker 9: Is something that it was best we each moved on.
- 2:26:36Speaker 10: And I think that's what the last three four days
- 2:26:40Speaker 10: of taking the time to figure it out allowed us
- 2:26:45Speaker 10: to do.
- 2:26:48Speaker 8: Hi, how are you, Robert?
- 2:26:51Speaker 9: So what are you looking for in your next head coach? Well?
- 2:26:56Speaker 10: I said at the beginning, and is this the closing question,
- 2:27:00Speaker 10: because if it is, I'll just say, you know, we're
- 2:27:07Speaker 10: looking for someone who can help us get back to
- 2:27:11Speaker 10: the playoffs and win.
- 2:27:13Speaker 9: And that's believe me.
- 2:27:17Speaker 10: After my family, this is really one of the two
- 2:27:22Speaker 10: most important assets in my life, and I am very
- 2:27:28Speaker 10: upset when we don't win games, and it carries the
- 2:27:31Speaker 10: whole week. So I promise you I'll be focused to
- 2:27:35Speaker 10: do what I can the best I can do to
- 2:27:39Speaker 10: make sure we're putting ourselves in the best long term
- 2:27:44Speaker 10: position to win for many years. Thank you, thank you
- 2:27:48Speaker 10: all for coming here today and being part of this.
- 2:27:53Speaker 10: I it's it's something, you know. I said it early today,
- 2:28:02Speaker 10: sitting in those metal benches in the old stadium where
- 2:28:07Speaker 10: your tush got frozen to the seat in November December,
- 2:28:11Speaker 10: and dreaming about an opportunity to maybe own this team
- 2:28:18Speaker 10: and try to figure out how to do it. And
- 2:28:24Speaker 10: you know, and I always say I had a greater
- 2:28:26Speaker 10: chance of being a starting quarterback in the NFL, believe
- 2:28:30Speaker 10: it or not, because they're thirty two of them, then
- 2:28:34Speaker 10: owning a team in my hometown, and having the privilege
- 2:28:39Speaker 10: of doing it as a custodian of the Patriots, and
- 2:28:43Speaker 10: then never never imagining that we would go to the
- 2:28:50Speaker 10: Super Bowl ten times, and so happy for that. And
- 2:28:54Speaker 10: I promise you our family will be dedicated to doing
- 2:29:00Speaker 10: the best weekend of bringing a winning team back.
- 2:29:03Speaker 9: Thank you very much. I appreciate you all being here.
- 2:29:15Speaker 5: All right.
- 2:29:17Speaker 1: That's Robert Kraft, as promised.
- 2:29:20Speaker 2: A little disappointed he didn't talk about next steps, but
- 2:29:24Speaker 2: I figure soon enough we'll be getting news on that comments,
- 2:29:30Speaker 2: and he again he intimated that it'll be tough to
- 2:29:34Speaker 2: see Bill on the sideline with another team.
- 2:29:38Speaker 1: What do you know, Robert, what do you know now?
- 2:29:40Speaker 5: I mean it's probably Bill's made his intentions clear that
- 2:29:42Speaker 5: he would like to continue coaching, so, you know, for
- 2:29:45Speaker 5: in terms of not really talking about what's next, I mean,
- 2:29:48Speaker 5: I thought he, you know, the best he could. I mean,
- 2:29:49Speaker 5: this is hard, and I mean clearly we all watched
- 2:29:53Speaker 5: these games and felt the same way, like there's just
- 2:29:55Speaker 5: something wrong. I don't we don't know exactly what it is.
- 2:29:57Speaker 5: It's a lot of things, but something's been wrong, and
- 2:29:59Speaker 5: the change how to happen.
- 2:30:00Speaker 6: We got one right. You know. People keep asking why
- 2:30:02Speaker 6: no compensation? Why not pull on Norman see and he
- 2:30:05Speaker 6: gave the answer that we've been giving all along.
- 2:30:08Speaker 5: And the same thing.
- 2:30:08Speaker 6: Just didn't feel like it was right. He felt like
- 2:30:10Speaker 6: Bill are in that it was.
- 2:30:12Speaker 5: Stripping the GM duties away. I mean, those are conversations
- 2:30:14Speaker 5: people called in all the times about that stuff.
- 2:30:15Speaker 6: And it was we got that one right too.
- 2:30:17Speaker 5: Don't think that's going to happen. It's hard to see
- 2:30:19Speaker 5: any explain.
- 2:30:20Speaker 15: That was like such a common sense one knowing the
- 2:30:22Speaker 15: two of them and their egos.
- 2:30:24Speaker 6: And you can't have a guy who's made all the
- 2:30:26Speaker 6: decisions all of a sudden, yeah, not be allowed to
- 2:30:29Speaker 6: make the decisions.
- 2:30:30Speaker 14: Put training wheels back on the bike.
- 2:30:31Speaker 6: No, And I wasn't interesting that it wasn't always that way.
- 2:30:36Speaker 6: Well he got after the third Super Bowl. Was around
- 2:30:38Speaker 6: the time that he got he started to earn final
- 2:30:40Speaker 6: final Say, now, I think he was always in charge
- 2:30:43Speaker 6: of the roster, but I think that Robert probably gave
- 2:30:46Speaker 6: him more latitude after the.
- 2:30:47Speaker 2: Well remember the structure Paul before. Well, when Bill first
- 2:30:51Speaker 2: got here, Andy Wachuck was here.
- 2:30:54Speaker 6: Right, but they all got fired like after the draft.
- 2:30:56Speaker 1: They didn't get fired. Well, why was the Chuck left
- 2:30:59Speaker 1: because he agreed?
- 2:31:01Speaker 5: Was it?
- 2:31:02Speaker 1: Tuk left because he realized.
- 2:31:04Speaker 6: I don't have any juice.
- 2:31:06Speaker 1: I don't have any juice in it?
- 2:31:07Speaker 6: And Jack Mueller remember Jack, they're just like glossing Jack Jack?
- 2:31:13Speaker 5: Who what?
- 2:31:14Speaker 2: So there were other people here when Bill was here,
- 2:31:17Speaker 2: and they all eventually left, including like the PR guy
- 2:31:21Speaker 2: realized you know this.
- 2:31:24Speaker 5: His show now? Yeah he's the captain now yep.
- 2:31:27Speaker 1: So yeah, things he earned after three he started to
- 2:31:31Speaker 1: get that power.
- 2:31:33Speaker 5: Yeah, I think the thing that was a little bit
- 2:31:34Speaker 5: weird for me, was just to kind of feel Robert
- 2:31:36Speaker 5: talking up there as the owner of the Patriots and
- 2:31:39Speaker 5: not really with any concern of what he's going to
- 2:31:42Speaker 5: say about Bill or I mean, you know, it's it's
- 2:31:44Speaker 5: it just felt kind of jarring that it's you know,
- 2:31:47Speaker 5: realizing that like Bills out now it doesn't really matter
- 2:31:50Speaker 5: what he thinks anymore. Like that's you know, it's just
- 2:31:52Speaker 5: it's going to take a while to adjust to that,
- 2:31:53Speaker 5: right the whole.
- 2:31:55Speaker 2: To feel his shadow word you know, parsing words and
- 2:32:00Speaker 2: all that stuff.
- 2:32:02Speaker 1: You don't have to worry about that.
- 2:32:03Speaker 5: You feel the shadow around everything here that you know,
- 2:32:05Speaker 5: and it's you know, for better or worse, everything that's
- 2:32:07Speaker 5: been set up has been his and now it's just
- 2:32:09Speaker 5: that was the first time where it felt like then
- 2:32:11Speaker 5: this is bizarre but new, brave, new world.
- 2:32:14Speaker 2: All right, the show must go on and that means Picks,
- 2:32:21Speaker 2: it's that time of the show, all right, Paul, what
- 2:32:31Speaker 2: happened last week?
- 2:32:32Speaker 1: And who is the winner of the Picks contest?
- 2:32:34Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean it was more of a formality for
- 2:32:36Speaker 6: the winner, the Queen Alex, but a strong finish for
- 2:32:42Speaker 6: for everybody, Mike, Alex and Paul all went eleven and five,
- 2:32:44Speaker 6: so good job. Good job to us, Evan and Fred
- 2:32:48Speaker 6: nine and seven. You know, mediocrity at best with the spread.
- 2:32:53Speaker 6: It was Mike, Alex and Evan at eleven and five,
- 2:32:56Speaker 6: Paul at ten and six, and Fred seven and nine.
- 2:33:00Speaker 6: So here are the final standings for the final time.
- 2:33:04Speaker 6: Alex one seventy five and ninety seven, followed by Paul
- 2:33:08Speaker 6: at one seventy one in one O one. So a
- 2:33:10Speaker 6: solid four game win for Alex. Uh Mike, Oh, he.
- 2:33:16Speaker 12: Got on the podium. Mike, you got there.
- 2:33:18Speaker 6: We go bron You meddled, You meddled one sixty eight
- 2:33:21Speaker 6: in one O four, followed by Evan at one sixty
- 2:33:24Speaker 6: four and one O eight and Fred not in last
- 2:33:27Speaker 6: place one sixty two and one ten. You are in
- 2:33:30Speaker 6: last place because, as I've said many times, if Fred
- 2:33:33Speaker 6: were actually trying to pick the winners as opposed to
- 2:33:36Speaker 6: adhere to all of his grievances he was, he would
- 2:33:40Speaker 6: do much better.
- 2:33:41Speaker 1: I got a lot of problem with you.
- 2:33:43Speaker 12: He did that. He was better about that this year.
- 2:33:45Speaker 5: Yeah. He against Cincinnati, Yeah, and then well they weren't.
- 2:33:50Speaker 12: Very good anyway. They went nine and eight.
- 2:33:52Speaker 9: That means game was a.
- 2:33:53Speaker 5: Game, and then I wrote the Patriots in time, and
- 2:33:55Speaker 5: then Denver wrote, I am still am not in the.
- 2:33:57Speaker 6: Basement with a spread. Paul just ran away with it.
- 2:34:02Speaker 6: One forty four, one seventeen and eleven. That's two years
- 2:34:05Speaker 6: in a row. I just want to thank the Academy
- 2:34:07Speaker 6: and everybody else.
- 2:34:08Speaker 1: Okay, it's quite an achievement, Alex.
- 2:34:11Speaker 6: I give you solid one two finish for Alex, just
- 2:34:14Speaker 6: like me. One two, one thirty five, one twenty six,
- 2:34:17Speaker 6: and eleven. You win money, money, You win money, young lady.
- 2:34:22Speaker 6: Let's see Evan, you meddled in this in this round,
- 2:34:27Speaker 6: get off the podium. You meddled, but you lost money.
- 2:34:30Speaker 6: One twenty eight, one thirty.
- 2:34:31Speaker 12: Three and eleven paid to be there.
- 2:34:33Speaker 6: Followed by Fred one twenty five, one thirty six and eleven,
- 2:34:36Speaker 6: and Deuce Sneaky negative twenty okay, sneaky negative one twenty four,
- 2:34:44Speaker 6: one thirty seven.
- 2:34:45Speaker 5: And eleven by one game, one game.
- 2:34:48Speaker 6: I never had one lessons.
- 2:34:50Speaker 14: Sneaky negative is the best line in your little.
- 2:34:52Speaker 12: Good job everybody.
- 2:34:54Speaker 6: I dubbed that. I was very proud of that. I
- 2:34:56Speaker 6: dubbed you sneaky negative.
- 2:34:58Speaker 1: So now we start over right, clean slate, just.
- 2:35:01Speaker 6: So everybody can see if they want to get the camera.
- 2:35:04Speaker 5: On that zoom zoom in. Yeah, you can't see it.
- 2:35:09Speaker 6: Wild Card weekend coming up.
- 2:35:11Speaker 1: Yeah, here clean slate.
- 2:35:14Speaker 2: Uh so today, I'm today, I don't I don't even
- 2:35:17Speaker 2: know what Thursday.
- 2:35:18Speaker 6: We have two games on Saturday.
- 2:35:21Speaker 2: Four point thirty on NBC and Peacock. So if you're
- 2:35:26Speaker 2: not in the Cleveland or Houston area, you must watch
- 2:35:30Speaker 2: this game on Peacock.
- 2:35:31Speaker 6: Are you sure this is the game?
- 2:35:32Speaker 1: Sorry?
- 2:35:33Speaker 6: Yep, I thought the late game was the one on Peacock.
- 2:35:35Speaker 2: Oh I'm sorry. This one is also on NBC. They're
- 2:35:38Speaker 2: both on Peacock, but this one you can also see
- 2:35:41Speaker 2: an NBC.
- 2:35:41Speaker 6: Yeah, because I think there's a method to their madness.
- 2:35:44Speaker 6: They put the best game of the weekend on Peacock.
- 2:35:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:35:46Speaker 6: Thanks.
- 2:35:46Speaker 2: So the eleven and six Browns are at the ten
- 2:35:50Speaker 2: and seven Texans.
- 2:35:52Speaker 6: Cleveland a road favorite by two and a half. A
- 2:35:58Speaker 6: lot of injuries in these games.
- 2:35:59Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm gonna do it, though. I'm gonna go with
- 2:36:01Speaker 5: Joe Flacco on the road with that defense. Young Houston
- 2:36:04Speaker 5: team maybe not quite ready yet to take on a
- 2:36:07Speaker 5: tough d and a veteran quarterback who makes mistakes but
- 2:36:10Speaker 5: makes play So I'm gonna go Cleveland minus two and
- 2:36:13Speaker 5: a half.
- 2:36:14Speaker 14: Yeah, Cleveland win Cleveland. Cover would love to see it.
- 2:36:20Speaker 12: I'm gonna go with c J. Stroud.
- 2:36:22Speaker 13: I just think that he's got he's got the goods,
- 2:36:25Speaker 13: and I I just at some point Joe Flacco is
- 2:36:28Speaker 13: gonna cost the Browns a game, and in in lockstep
- 2:36:32Speaker 13: with Bill Belichick, I'm picking against the Browns.
- 2:36:34Speaker 12: I'm going with the Texas. Yeah.
- 2:36:35Speaker 6: I love me some Joe Flacco as as you know,
- 2:36:38Speaker 6: but he's the quarterback that actually makes mistakes. Stroud really doesn't.
- 2:36:41Speaker 6: He only has five picks all year. I think the
- 2:36:44Speaker 6: home field will be relevant. I do think Cleveland has
- 2:36:47Speaker 6: more playoff experience, but not much. Most of these guys
- 2:36:50Speaker 6: haven't played in a lot of games. I'm gonna take
- 2:36:52Speaker 6: the mild upset Texans.
- 2:36:57Speaker 1: That's a bold pick back.
- 2:36:59Speaker 6: I think I may have picked Cleve when I did
- 2:37:00Speaker 6: it online too, So.
- 2:37:02Speaker 2: Sh have stuck with Cleveland because Cleveland is a team
- 2:37:04Speaker 2: that's gonna win this game. I give Flacco some experience
- 2:37:08Speaker 2: credit in this one.
- 2:37:09Speaker 1: CJ. Stroud obviously has no playoff experience.
- 2:37:12Speaker 2: I'll be rooting for Flacco, so I'm gonna go with
- 2:37:15Speaker 2: Cleveland all right. Now, the eight o'clock game is only
- 2:37:18Speaker 2: on Peacock unless you're in the Miami or Kansas City market.
- 2:37:21Speaker 6: Yeah, and this is a really good matchup.
- 2:37:23Speaker 2: Yeah, the eleven and six Dolphins are at the eleven
- 2:37:27Speaker 2: and six Chiefs, And I know the early forecast was
- 2:37:29Speaker 2: like minus two or something like that.
- 2:37:31Speaker 6: Really cool. Yeah, and none of the Dolphins are playing,
- 2:37:35Speaker 6: so this is an interesting matchup. Chiefs by four and
- 2:37:37Speaker 6: a half.
- 2:37:39Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm gonna take cle I'm gonna take Kensas City
- 2:37:41Speaker 5: at home, the cold, tough to pick Miami on the
- 2:37:44Speaker 5: road in this situation, give them their injuries. I gotta go
- 2:37:46Speaker 5: with Patrick Mahomes.
- 2:37:48Speaker 14: Yeah, I'm with Mike.
- 2:37:49Speaker 15: I was gonna split it, pick the Chiefs to win,
- 2:37:51Speaker 15: but the Dolphins injury report, the cold, just a lot
- 2:37:54Speaker 15: of a lot of negating factors there, So double Chiefs.
- 2:37:58Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 2:37:58Speaker 13: I was gonna pick the Dolphins as well, just because
- 2:38:01Speaker 13: I don't think the Chiefs have really played well this year,
- 2:38:03Speaker 13: like on the whole, but I think that maybe the
- 2:38:05Speaker 13: Chiefs have a little twenty eighteen Patriots in them where
- 2:38:08Speaker 13: they're better in team. That's just gonna flip the switch
- 2:38:10Speaker 13: when the playoffs come. Not sure they're going the super Bowl,
- 2:38:12Speaker 13: but I'm picking Kansas City to win this game and
- 2:38:15Speaker 13: I'll take them both ways.
- 2:38:17Speaker 6: Yeah, I really wanted to take Miami too, because I do.
- 2:38:20Speaker 6: I think Miami is a better team. I think at
- 2:38:22Speaker 6: full strength, they have better talent and it wouldn't bother
- 2:38:24Speaker 6: me being on the road. But it's like too many.
- 2:38:27Speaker 5: Guys outside, like every free agent pass.
- 2:38:29Speaker 6: Rush, like Melvin Ingram like hasn't even been on the
- 2:38:31Speaker 6: team and he's going to be starting, probably on the
- 2:38:34Speaker 6: edge in this game. So I got Kansas City both ways.
- 2:38:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:38:37Speaker 2: The difference in this game is Kansas City's defense, which
- 2:38:41Speaker 2: is kind of weird, but that's going to be the difference.
- 2:38:43Speaker 2: Chiefs win the eight o'clock game on Saturday.
- 2:38:47Speaker 1: We moved to Sunday.
- 2:38:48Speaker 6: You guys want to tell me what happened because I'm
- 2:38:50Speaker 6: not sure I'll be able to watch it.
- 2:38:51Speaker 9: Why.
- 2:38:52Speaker 6: Well, I'm not going to be home, so I don't
- 2:38:53Speaker 6: know where I'm going. If they're going to be having
- 2:38:55Speaker 6: like streaming service, you know, it's all it's all speculative.
- 2:38:58Speaker 6: I don't know this streaming nonsense.
- 2:39:01Speaker 2: Sunday at one on CBS in paramount plus big weekend
- 2:39:06Speaker 2: for streaming services. The ten and seven Steelers are at
- 2:39:10Speaker 2: the eleven and six Bills, Buffalo by ten.
- 2:39:15Speaker 5: That's a Steelers start. Yeah, that's a lot of points.
- 2:39:17Speaker 5: I'm definitely taking Buffalo women. I'm gonna take the points
- 2:39:19Speaker 5: for Pittsburgh just like they're scrappy, they'll keep it a
- 2:39:22Speaker 5: little close.
- 2:39:26Speaker 15: I'm I'm just sitting to go Buffalo both ways.
- 2:39:31Speaker 13: I am also gonna take do the deuce and I'm
- 2:39:34Speaker 13: gonna take the Bills. With the points for the Steelers.
- 2:39:37Speaker 13: I just think that the Bills also, like kind of
- 2:39:39Speaker 13: like the Chiefs, just aren't one hundred percent on fire
- 2:39:42Speaker 13: and all cylinders to cover a ten point spread in
- 2:39:45Speaker 13: the playoffs.
- 2:39:45Speaker 6: I agree, there's no question that Buffalo should win this
- 2:39:50Speaker 6: game by ten points, but I don't think they will.
- 2:39:52Speaker 6: I'll take Buffalo to win, but I'll take the points.
- 2:39:54Speaker 2: I'm on board with that as well. Bills, but they
- 2:39:57Speaker 2: don't cover all right, four point thirty on five, The
- 2:40:00Speaker 2: nine and eight Packers are at the twelve and five.
- 2:40:03Speaker 6: Cowboys Dallas by seven and a half. Other big spread, boy, oh.
- 2:40:08Speaker 5: Boy, that is a big spread. Yeah, I'm gonna lay it.
- 2:40:13Speaker 5: I'm gonna take Dallas well at the points, I am
- 2:40:16Speaker 5: tempted by green Bay. I think they'll they'll show some spark,
- 2:40:19Speaker 5: young team, but it's not a spunk.
- 2:40:22Speaker 6: I hate spunk.
- 2:40:24Speaker 12: I hate streaming services.
- 2:40:26Speaker 6: No, just when I'm If I was home, I wouldn't
- 2:40:28Speaker 6: just put it on. But I don't know where I'm
- 2:40:30Speaker 6: gonna go. Yeah, you never know. I could be going
- 2:40:34Speaker 6: to Felger's house. What do you got, Alex.
- 2:40:36Speaker 14: I'm gonna take the Cowboys both ways.
- 2:40:40Speaker 13: I'm with Alex on this. When the Cowboys at home
- 2:40:42Speaker 13: are a different football team. I like them both ways.
- 2:40:44Speaker 13: In this game, I agree.
- 2:40:46Speaker 6: I think Dallas will win the game, but I will
- 2:40:48Speaker 6: take the hook seven and a half. I think green
- 2:40:50Speaker 6: Bay might get a oh by the way touchdown and cover.
- 2:40:55Speaker 1: Go Pack go the big upset upset of the weekend.
- 2:41:00Speaker 6: You see what I mean.
- 2:41:01Speaker 2: The Packers win, even though it's in Dallas and I
- 2:41:03Speaker 2: know they've been playing well at home.
- 2:41:06Speaker 1: I'm going with the Pack. Jordan Love coming out party.
- 2:41:09Speaker 12: I was very wrong about Jordan Love.
- 2:41:11Speaker 2: I'll ware that here we go, good player, here we go,
- 2:41:14Speaker 2: all right, and I love when Jerry loses.
- 2:41:18Speaker 6: I can't determine whether or not a guy can play
- 2:41:20Speaker 6: after like six games.
- 2:41:21Speaker 13: Or like training camp to joint practices against the four
- 2:41:24Speaker 13: win Patriots team.
- 2:41:26Speaker 5: We were confounding him.
- 2:41:27Speaker 12: At that time, Juice, and I thought, so did you
- 2:41:30Speaker 12: get me, Paul?
- 2:41:31Speaker 6: I did, Green Bay.
- 2:41:32Speaker 5: It was just like, you make one great play the ground.
- 2:41:36Speaker 6: Green Bay. Yeah, And I laughed and said, that's why
- 2:41:39Speaker 6: I can't really celebrate when I beat you with the picks.
- 2:41:41Speaker 1: I know, eight o'clock and peacock.
- 2:41:46Speaker 2: The ten and seven Rams are at the twelve and
- 2:41:49Speaker 2: five Lions.
- 2:41:52Speaker 6: Uh, Detroit by three. Great irony in this game with
- 2:41:56Speaker 6: Stafford and Golf going against one another.
- 2:41:58Speaker 5: I gotta go with Paul's guy. I'm going with the
- 2:42:00Speaker 5: Rams plus three. On the road. They're playing well. I
- 2:42:04Speaker 5: think Detroit will get clammed up and uh and lose
- 2:42:07Speaker 5: to their old quarterback.
- 2:42:09Speaker 14: I want to take the Rams too. I hate it.
- 2:42:11Speaker 15: I really like the Lions, but I don't know something
- 2:42:15Speaker 15: my intuition.
- 2:42:17Speaker 13: Yeah, this is your your upset of the week, Fred,
- 2:42:19Speaker 13: right here, Rams over over Lions. I just think the
- 2:42:23Speaker 13: Rams have a little metal to them, and I just
- 2:42:26Speaker 13: I can't believe the Lions until I see it. I
- 2:42:28Speaker 13: just can't believe it.
- 2:42:31Speaker 6: Yeah, I think Detroit will win this game, and I
- 2:42:34Speaker 6: think they'll win it kind of easily. I think the
- 2:42:36Speaker 6: Rams defense is really bad and they won't be able
- 2:42:40Speaker 6: to keep up. Stafford will play well and keep them
- 2:42:42Speaker 6: in it, but they won't be able to keep up Detroit.
- 2:42:44Speaker 1: Yeah, Paul, I'm surprised we're both on the same side here.
- 2:42:47Speaker 1: Lions win this game.
- 2:42:49Speaker 2: Uh, this is a good game to pick the upset
- 2:42:51Speaker 2: with because the Rams are the sneaky dangerous team right now.
- 2:42:55Speaker 6: The are okay but pretty good.
- 2:42:56Speaker 2: But I can't imagine the Lions losing in the first round.
- 2:43:00Speaker 2: I just think Dan Campbell's gonna will them to win this.
- 2:43:02Speaker 6: Home anytime you give Dan Campbell a week to prepare
- 2:43:05Speaker 6: for the playoffs, oh.
- 2:43:06Speaker 13: God, well if he wins, if they're going to run
- 2:43:08Speaker 13: the Lions, then the just get the leader of men coach.
- 2:43:12Speaker 13: You know, we'll start to pick up some steam because
- 2:43:14Speaker 13: that guy definitely is not doing the X.
- 2:43:16Speaker 1: Those All right, and your final game Monday night on
- 2:43:20Speaker 1: eight o'clock. This game is done ESPN, ABC, ESPN two,
- 2:43:25Speaker 1: ESPN Plus, and ESPN Deportes.
- 2:43:28Speaker 6: My favorite portes.
- 2:43:30Speaker 9: Uh.
- 2:43:30Speaker 1: The eleven and six Eagles are at the nine and
- 2:43:34Speaker 1: eight Buccaneers.
- 2:43:36Speaker 6: This would, in my opinion anyway, be the worst matchup
- 2:43:39Speaker 6: of the week, which is probably why it's stuck on
- 2:43:41Speaker 6: Monday night. Eagles by three.
- 2:43:45Speaker 5: One and five. I'm gonna go with Tampa. I'm gonna
- 2:43:49Speaker 5: go with Tampa at home.
- 2:43:52Speaker 14: I'm gonna take the Eagles.
- 2:43:55Speaker 13: Yeah, I'm still taking the Eagles. I just don't think
- 2:43:58Speaker 13: Tampa is very good for ski but not good enough
- 2:44:01Speaker 13: to play with the big boys.
- 2:44:04Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm gonna take the Eagles too. I think I
- 2:44:07Speaker 6: had this at three and a half somewhere and I
- 2:44:09Speaker 6: took the points. But if it's just flat three, I'll
- 2:44:11Speaker 6: take the Eagles both ways.
- 2:44:13Speaker 1: Oh and oh, by the way, the Cowboys loss paves
- 2:44:17Speaker 1: the way for one Bill Belichick to take over the
- 2:44:20Speaker 1: reins of the Star.
- 2:44:22Speaker 5: I would not that would go to Atlanta.
- 2:44:25Speaker 12: That would worry the crap out of me.
- 2:44:27Speaker 6: Bring would.
- 2:44:34Speaker 1: Buccaneers. Let bake or bake? Let bake or bake.
- 2:44:38Speaker 12: Every single one of his picks is exactly what.
- 2:44:44Speaker 6: Every pick.
- 2:44:45Speaker 2: There has to be some things that happened that people
- 2:44:48Speaker 2: don't expect.
- 2:44:50Speaker 6: But that if you were just picking upsets, that would
- 2:44:52Speaker 6: be one thing you pick with your agenda. You hate Dallas.
- 2:45:00Speaker 5: You like, like Jerry.
- 2:45:02Speaker 6: You're sick of the Eagles because they they suddenly started
- 2:45:04Speaker 6: to win.
- 2:45:05Speaker 12: But he loves Baker. That's what Baker bake.
- 2:45:08Speaker 6: It doesn't make any sense.
- 2:45:09Speaker 2: I said a long time ago. Uh Evan, I said,
- 2:45:12Speaker 2: the league's better with Baker Mayfield.
- 2:45:14Speaker 1: I know you did.
- 2:45:17Speaker 14: It's a great and started Bakers.
- 2:45:20Speaker 6: Like you like you know, people say, like, you know,
- 2:45:23Speaker 6: like college football is better when Notre Dame is relevant.
- 2:45:26Speaker 6: I totally understand what that means. The NFL is better
- 2:45:30Speaker 6: when Baker Mayfield is What does that mean?
- 2:45:32Speaker 1: It's a personality.
- 2:45:33Speaker 12: I think it's good to have guys like he likes
- 2:45:35Speaker 12: the commercials.
- 2:45:36Speaker 6: Yeah, and I like the commercials. They're good, by the way,
- 2:45:39Speaker 6: it's good them much better at that than the same level.
- 2:45:42Speaker 1: But I think it's good when Garda Minshew's winning. He's
- 2:45:46Speaker 1: a personality. He enjoys the game. He's having fun.
- 2:45:50Speaker 12: He also stinks, Yeah, but.
- 2:45:53Speaker 1: He does not stink.
- 2:45:54Speaker 9: He does.
- 2:45:54Speaker 12: He does think he does, but he loves.
- 2:45:57Speaker 15: The game enough to try to break his own hand
- 2:46:00Speaker 15: with a hammer.
- 2:46:00Speaker 14: So he can play college football. Did you guy ever
- 2:46:02Speaker 14: hear that story?
- 2:46:03Speaker 12: All of us are like, oh.
- 2:46:05Speaker 15: My god, that story was told on parton my take
- 2:46:07Speaker 15: once it's really funny. Or he wanted to have an
- 2:46:12Speaker 15: extra year of eligibility in college and red shirt, so
- 2:46:15Speaker 15: he tried to break his own hand.
- 2:46:18Speaker 12: And this is the guy that you think it's better
- 2:46:19Speaker 12: for the league.
- 2:46:22Speaker 5: Left hand.
- 2:46:22Speaker 2: Probably characters wanted in the NFL. Characters wanted why does
- 2:46:28Speaker 2: it not breaking the law? All right, that's going to
- 2:46:31Speaker 2: be it for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered. It was
