- 0:06SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Rider, where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for creative success.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: This week here on the podcast, we're celebrating the release of 100 weekday episodes of the show.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: And these are the short episodes you hear Monday through Friday.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: And these have been a big hit with listeners, so I've chosen five of the most popular weekday episodes to share again here on the show this week.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: Today's episode is titled Here's to the Crazy Ones.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: If you were to make a list of the most creative people from the last hundred years, Steve Jobs would be close to the top of that list.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: As the co-founder of Apple, he was in large part responsible for many of the devices and apps we use today, such as the Mac computer, iTunes, the iPhone, the iPad, and lots of other things.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Now, especially in his later years, Steve Jobs was adored and admired for his visionary approach and his absolute refusal to go along with the status quo.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: But he wasn't always the cultural icon that he is today.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: Back in 1997, Steve Jobs had been gone from Apple for 12 years after a painful exit in 1985.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: Now that he was back in command, trying to turn this struggling company around, there was no magic bullet or no surefire gimmick or product that would help make Apple successful again.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: So he began to search for the marketing agency that would help put Apple back on the map.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: Steve Jobs was looking for the perfect message that would communicate Apple's renewed vision.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: And this process culminated in the now famous Think Different commercial, which featured Jobs giving a narration over images and clips of people like Albert Einstein, Jim Henson, Martin Luther King Jr., Amelia Earhart, and many others.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: Here's what Jobs said.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Here's two the crazy ones the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs and the square holes, the ones who see things differently.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: They're not fond of rules.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: They push the human race forward.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world are the ones who do.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: Today, whoever is listening to this, whoever is tempted to settle for the status quo, whoever wants to avoid living an ordinary life, if you're a little bit crazy, this is for you.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: We're not going to make a difference by doing the same things everybody else does.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: Be bold, be different, be willing to be misunderstood by other people.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: That's not just the price of being different.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: It's the price of being a creative writer who makes a difference.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: Here's to the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: Well, thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: You know, if we want to be crazy enough to change the world, if we want to be different and we want to be truly unique and make a big difference in other people's lives, we've got to be part of a community who can help us do that.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: And that's exactly why I created the Daily Rider community.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: For years, I searched for the kind of group that I would want to join as a writer, but the problem was that I could never find one.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: So I had to create my own, which I was thrilled to be able to do.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: And I've got to tell you, we've got some people in our community who are doing some phenomenal things.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: Some of the features that we have in this community include weekly writing sprints, monthly community calls, help from writing mentors, calls with guest experts, and much more.
