- 0:00Speaker 1: The following program is produced by the tech Talk Radio Network.
- 0:03Speaker 1: Hey everybody, this is Kelly Hansen from Foreigner and you're
- 0:05Speaker 1: listening to tech Talk Radio. Welcome to another episode of
- 0:11Speaker 1: tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean de Weird,
- 0:15Speaker 1: and I'm Justin Lemey. Welcome. That's good to see you.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Last week we had a best of show, but everybody
- 0:22Speaker 2: was doing something last week, and then Sean fell asleep.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Andy and I were supposed to record, and then Max.
- 0:30Speaker 4: Oh no, Max was up late, and then Caitlyn was out,
- 0:35Speaker 4: and I.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Will fill asleep at your desk, didn't.
- 0:38Speaker 3: You No, I fall asleep in Max's bed with him.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Oh, it's totally what I pictured.
- 0:42Speaker 2: I totally pictured him with his head on the desk, drool,
- 0:45Speaker 2: coming out onto his show notes.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Because we were going to record.
- 0:49Speaker 2: After about twenty minutes, I went in back into Gloria
- 0:52Speaker 2: was in the TV room. She said, so did the
- 0:55Speaker 2: fall asleep? I said, yeah, I think so.
- 0:57Speaker 3: It's not the first time.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Well, I mean you got to understand, though, the Shawn
- 1:01Speaker 1: is three hours ahead of you. Yes, exactly. So yeah,
- 1:04Speaker 1: when we record the show sometimes it's like seven pm
- 1:06Speaker 1: your time. It's like you know, ten eleven o'clock even, Yeah,
- 1:11Speaker 1: and then he has to be up. Oh yeah, what
- 1:13Speaker 1: time you get What time do you get up to
- 1:14Speaker 1: get get to Notre Dame.
- 1:16Speaker 4: Oh the boys are up at six am, So yeah,
- 1:19Speaker 4: sometime you get up.
- 1:20Speaker 3: I mean, I mean I get up with the boys
- 1:21Speaker 3: and then go to work.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Actually so okay, so okay, same time all right, yeah, I.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Mean I'm recording the show. It's eleven thirty. Yeah, usually
- 1:31Speaker 3: go to bed after that.
- 1:32Speaker 1: So remember the battle day, Sean, when you and I
- 1:35Speaker 1: would come home from our our night shift at Fox
- 1:38Speaker 1: five and we would play like Daisy or something until
- 1:41Speaker 1: like two am, two am. We wouldn't get home until
- 1:46Speaker 1: eleven pm, right, you know, and then we would play
- 1:49Speaker 1: you know, me, him and a couple of our other buddies.
- 1:52Speaker 4: When we lived in San Diego before before he moved
- 1:55Speaker 4: out to San Tee, we were about the same distance
- 1:58Speaker 4: from the office, right yeah.
- 2:00Speaker 3: We would be like, all right, let's.
- 2:01Speaker 4: See in fifteen fifteen minutes yep, and it would be
- 2:03Speaker 4: would be on and we'd play Dais for hours. Days
- 2:07Speaker 4: had Dais had just released as an alpha. Dais is
- 2:11Speaker 4: a zombie mod of the game Armor two, which is
- 2:14Speaker 4: oh yeah, was an incredible game that became wildly popular.
- 2:19Speaker 1: It's actually becoming popular again beyond yeah.
- 2:22Speaker 4: I will have to I've got some I'll dig them up.
- 2:25Speaker 4: But I have some clips playing. Oh yeah, I remember
- 2:29Speaker 4: the helicopters and oh yeah, yeah.
- 2:30Speaker 1: I remember the one we were like launching grenades off
- 2:32Speaker 1: the side of the building and we were like attracting
- 2:34Speaker 1: a bunch of zombies and we're like, oh, okay, well
- 2:35Speaker 1: we're screwed. I was on I gotta teo you.
- 2:38Speaker 2: I was out and about and I ran into this
- 2:40Speaker 2: guy who said he listens to the Tech Show right
- 2:43Speaker 2: and then. But it was kind of cool because he said,
- 2:45Speaker 2: I love it when you guys talk about gaming. I said, oh,
- 2:48Speaker 2: what do you play? And he goes, I don't play anything.
- 2:50Speaker 2: I don't play any games. I don't have computer that's
- 2:53Speaker 2: fast enough. But I love you guys talking about it
- 2:55Speaker 2: because it makes me want to upgrade my computer in
- 2:58Speaker 2: play some games.
- 2:59Speaker 1: I tell it, just do it, do it? Do it? Now?
- 3:02Speaker 1: Do it? Now? Do it.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Speaking of that you've been I know that justin you
- 3:08Speaker 2: talked about that zombie game.
- 3:10Speaker 1: You were gonna maybe do some voices. How's that coming along?
- 3:13Speaker 3: Is it? Game?
- 3:13Speaker 1: Still popular.
- 3:14Speaker 2: I mean, we tend to have games that come out,
- 3:16Speaker 2: they'll be out for a little while and then they
- 3:18Speaker 2: just kind of disappear.
- 3:19Speaker 1: No, No, the So the game where you're referencing is
- 3:23Speaker 1: Project Zomboid, and it is becoming more and more popular
- 3:28Speaker 1: by the day. I mean, I'm seeing more and more
- 3:31Speaker 1: posts on Reddit, more and more posts on x about
- 3:36Speaker 1: the game and the developer apparently he has him or
- 3:42Speaker 1: or his team. I guess they've expanded because remember this
- 3:45Speaker 1: game came out in twenty thirteen and it was eh, okay, yeah,
- 3:51Speaker 1: but like about about a year ago, not even a
- 3:53Speaker 1: year ago. It's been about six months since they released
- 3:56Speaker 1: Build forty two, and Build forty two just changed everything,
- 3:59Speaker 1: and now it's just getting better and better. Now they're
- 4:02Speaker 1: on I think it's forty two dot six, So it's
- 4:06Speaker 1: the sixth iteration that just came out yesterday of Build
- 4:10Speaker 1: forty two. Now there's still no multiplayer in build forty two.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Everybody that wants my multiplayer has to play on Build
- 4:16Speaker 1: forty one, the previous iteration, but it is becoming more
- 4:19Speaker 1: and more popular by the day now. With respect to
- 4:22Speaker 1: your question about the voiceover stuff, you know I did
- 4:25Speaker 1: I did some voiceover work for this mod, which was
- 4:28Speaker 1: in talks with the developer to become vanilla, which means
- 4:32Speaker 1: just included in the base game. I don't know the
- 4:35Speaker 1: status of it right now. Shortly after I did those voices,
- 4:38Speaker 1: I got sick. And I don't normally get sick. But
- 4:42Speaker 1: I'll be honest, this is really weird, Andy, And you'll
- 4:45Speaker 1: know this being you know, a radio DJ. But my
- 4:48Speaker 1: voice was really bad for weeks on end. I mean
- 4:52Speaker 1: it was just I sounded like I would wake up
- 4:54Speaker 1: in the morning and I would have a very deep,
- 4:58Speaker 1: perfect radio voice. But then but like halfway through the day,
- 5:02Speaker 1: it just sounded like I was sick. You turned into
- 5:05Speaker 1: Bobby Brady. Yeah, yeah, and and and it just got
- 5:08Speaker 1: really bad. But you know what, I be honest, like
- 5:10Speaker 1: I'm starting, you know, feeling better and I'm not doing it.
- 5:13Speaker 1: And I don't know what happened with this whole sickness thing, right,
- 5:17Speaker 1: but it has changed my voice like permanently, Like I
- 5:20Speaker 1: have that deep voice now, I feel like all the time.
- 5:25Speaker 1: It's just it's it's like dropped down a half octave.
- 5:28Speaker 1: You probably went through always you went through the change,
- 5:31Speaker 1: you know, it's like you know, I finally hit puberty
- 5:33Speaker 1: at forty four years old. I finally hit puberty. It happens,
- 5:37Speaker 1: you know, some of us a little later than others,
- 5:39Speaker 1: a little bit later. Yeah, yeah, there's there is.
- 5:42Speaker 2: If you ever want to watch a video when it
- 5:44Speaker 2: comes to voices, I just and I've mentioned this before,
- 5:46Speaker 2: I'm going to say it again. If you watch it
- 5:48Speaker 2: when you're you're you're finished with this, justin the finest
- 5:52Speaker 2: voices ever in voiceover work. It's called five guys in
- 5:57Speaker 2: a level.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Dude, I showed you that.
- 5:58Speaker 2: I was the one that shows you the interesting Oh yeah,
- 6:01Speaker 2: oh my god. That is one of the best, the
- 6:03Speaker 2: best videos, some of the greatest. Don la Fontaine just
- 6:07Speaker 2: great voice guys. Oh they're they're all of them.
- 6:09Speaker 1: The guy that did Disney, the guy that did Jurassic Park,
- 6:11Speaker 1: the guy that did Ferris Bueler's Day Off. Yeah, all those, Yeah,
- 6:15Speaker 1: the five best voiceover actors of our time. The only
- 6:18Speaker 1: problem with that video is the quality. You cannot find
- 6:22Speaker 1: a good quality version of it. So it's like it's
- 6:25Speaker 1: not even four eighty p it's like three twenty p
- 6:29Speaker 1: you know, and and the but the at least the
- 6:31Speaker 1: audio is okay. So you can understand it. But yeah,
- 6:33Speaker 1: five guys in a limo. Just look it up on YouTube.
- 6:36Speaker 1: It is amazing.
- 6:37Speaker 2: You had something you were telling us before the break,
- 6:40Speaker 2: but you didn't give us the info that you kind
- 6:43Speaker 2: of did.
- 6:44Speaker 1: And it involves tech and okay, let's see, let's see
- 6:47Speaker 1: what it is. Well, I've mentioned this before, so you
- 6:50Speaker 1: know a lot of my my my normal daily routine is,
- 6:54Speaker 1: you know, after I get off of work, I go
- 6:56Speaker 1: pick up Eric from school, and a lot of times
- 6:59Speaker 1: we'll stop over at the neighborhood brewery and I'll have
- 7:02Speaker 1: a you know, a quick beer while I'm just kind
- 7:04Speaker 1: of like unwinding from the day, and I'll bring my
- 7:07Speaker 1: computer and I'll be you know, surfing the internet, or
- 7:09Speaker 1: I'll be on a game myself. And then Eric's got
- 7:12Speaker 1: the little tablet next to him, and he tries to
- 7:16Speaker 1: play Minecraft on the tablet, or he might try to
- 7:18Speaker 1: play like Roadblocks or you know a lot of these
- 7:20Speaker 1: mobile games. And I can just tell that he's he's
- 7:23Speaker 1: just getting frustrated with the quality of the tablet and
- 7:28Speaker 1: he's just he's just like, I'm getting bored, you know, Dad,
- 7:30Speaker 1: I'm getting bored in the graphics, And well, ability. Yeah. Yeah,
- 7:36Speaker 1: the ability. I mean it's not a very I mean
- 7:38Speaker 1: the tablet is a decent tablet, but it's just yeah,
- 7:40Speaker 1: the ability to be able to play and and he's
- 7:42Speaker 1: getting more and more interested in like Steam games and stuff.
- 7:46Speaker 1: That's the stuff that I play, and he just can't
- 7:49Speaker 1: do that on the tablet. So yeah, we went out
- 7:52Speaker 1: and bottom a gaming laptop. Oh wow, which, well we
- 7:58Speaker 1: got him the Acer Predator. Oh that's yeah. Yeah, and
- 8:02Speaker 1: so it it has an I seven. Uh, it's it's
- 8:05Speaker 1: the newest I seven. It's it's Core Ultra. It's so
- 8:09Speaker 1: it's yeah, the brand newest I seven. It's only got
- 8:12Speaker 1: sixteen gigs a RAM, which is you know, fine, but
- 8:14Speaker 1: it does have a forty sixty and RTX forty kidding
- 8:18Speaker 1: make it. Well, my my laptop, my laptop that I
- 8:21Speaker 1: use for work, it has a thirty seventy TI, which
- 8:25Speaker 1: I think is still a little bit more powerful than
- 8:27Speaker 1: the forty sixty in terms of overall performance. But the
- 8:31Speaker 1: forty sixty. Yeah, so get this. So I get this laptop.
- 8:35Speaker 1: It's got Windows eleven on it. I spend all of Sunday.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Was it s mode? No? No, So you didn't have
- 8:40Speaker 1: to take it out of S mode. No, no, it
- 8:41Speaker 1: wasn't S mode. It was it was straight Windows. So
- 8:45Speaker 1: I spend all Sunday afternoon from like twelve until we
- 8:49Speaker 1: actually about one let's say one o'clock until about four o'clock. Yeah,
- 8:53Speaker 1: and I'm I'm updating it. I'm downloading all the updates.
- 8:56Speaker 1: I'm downloading, you know, all the Driver easy drive because
- 9:00Speaker 1: I love Driver Easy. I'm downloading Steam, I'm updating the
- 9:05Speaker 1: Xbox app. And then I finally then I start downloading
- 9:08Speaker 1: some games. And then I oh, and then I signed
- 9:11Speaker 1: up for a service because it's a it's a full
- 9:14Speaker 1: fledged laptop, and he has the ability to go anywhere
- 9:16Speaker 1: on the internet. I signed up for this particular where
- 9:22Speaker 1: is it here because it's called custodio, right, because custodio
- 9:26Speaker 1: q U s t O d io custodio And it
- 9:31Speaker 1: is a parental control app that is on his computer,
- 9:34Speaker 1: but it's hidden and he's unable to disable it. And
- 9:40Speaker 1: so what this app does is it monitors everything he does,
- 9:44Speaker 1: every application he wants, launches every game, every YouTube video
- 9:49Speaker 1: that he searches, every website that he goes to, every
- 9:52Speaker 1: time he tries to bypass admin controls or whatever it
- 9:55Speaker 1: might be. It will alert me immediately on my phone
- 9:59Speaker 1: via the app, also via email. So then I can
- 10:03Speaker 1: just completely just shut his computer down, like remotely. I
- 10:06Speaker 1: can shut the computer down. So you get it.
- 10:08Speaker 2: You get a report of hey, he's looking at this.
- 10:10Speaker 2: You don't want to move time, so real time, in
- 10:12Speaker 2: real time, that is awesome. So like if he goes
- 10:15Speaker 2: to YouTube and he's searching Minecraft videos, I don't get
- 10:17Speaker 2: an alert. But if he goes and searches something more
- 10:20Speaker 2: nefarious that an eight year old shouldn't search, it will
- 10:24Speaker 2: alert me and say, hey, your kid is watching some
- 10:26Speaker 2: stuff that he probably shouldn't be watching. But I mean
- 10:29Speaker 2: I'm usually right next to him. I mean, we're not
- 10:31Speaker 2: like letting him go to his room and just you know,
- 10:34Speaker 2: browse the internet like we're watching him. But anyway, this
- 10:37Speaker 2: custodio is really cool and we got a good deal.
- 10:39Speaker 2: I think it was like two years for like one
- 10:41Speaker 2: hundred and sixty bucks, so it wasn't too expensive anyway.
- 10:44Speaker 2: How about the installation of apps like Snapchat for the
- 10:47Speaker 2: web that kind of thing.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Yeah, No, it won't let him install any apps. He's
- 10:51Speaker 1: not an admin on the actually currently he is an
- 10:54Speaker 1: admin on the PC because it's only been a day
- 10:56Speaker 1: since we had it and I haven't had a chance
- 10:58Speaker 1: to remove his administrator privileges. But I will take care
- 11:01Speaker 1: of that. Ye But yeah, no, he won't be able
- 11:03Speaker 1: to install any apps. He won't be able to do
- 11:05Speaker 1: anything that I don't want him to do, which is
- 11:08Speaker 1: it's great. So anyway, we get this thing set up
- 11:11Speaker 1: on Sunday, Sunday afternoon, I'm like, hey, man, let's go celebrate.
- 11:15Speaker 1: I want a beer. Let's go over to Bruise. Let's
- 11:17Speaker 1: bring your brand new laptop. Let's sit down. I'm gonna
- 11:20Speaker 1: bring mine. I'm gonna play Assassin's Creed Shadows, the new
- 11:24Speaker 1: Assassin's Creed that's set in Feudal Japan, you know, because
- 11:27Speaker 1: it looks Eric's half Japanese. And he sets up his laptop.
- 11:32Speaker 1: He opens up Minecraft and he starts playing Minecraft. Five
- 11:35Speaker 1: minutes later, he's watching YouTube. I'm like, really, like really, dude,
- 11:42Speaker 1: I didn't just spend one thousand dollars on a laptop
- 11:45Speaker 1: for you to go and watch YouTube. You can watch
- 11:48Speaker 1: YouTube on the tablet, you know. He's like, well, I
- 11:51Speaker 1: just want to watch YouTube. I want to watch Minecraft videos.
- 11:54Speaker 1: I'm like, then, why did I buy you one thousand
- 11:56Speaker 1: dollars laptop? Give him some of the classic games. He
- 12:00Speaker 1: might have some fun with those. You know, I've been trying.
- 12:03Speaker 1: I mean Doom, Yeah, Wolfenstein Yeah yeah, that's great for
- 12:08Speaker 1: an eight role Nocturnal remember that one. Yeah? Anyway, No,
- 12:12Speaker 1: but I mean I've been trying. I've been trying to
- 12:13Speaker 1: get them all kinds of games because I can share
- 12:15Speaker 1: my Steam library with him, So I'm giving them like
- 12:17Speaker 1: things like house Flipper, powerwash simulator, you know, uh uh.
- 12:23Speaker 1: I even gave him Project Zomboid. But he doesn't want
- 12:25Speaker 1: to play.
- 12:25Speaker 4: Though what every eight year old kid wants to play powerwashing?
- 12:29Speaker 1: No, he actually loves it. He does. He actually loves
- 12:33Speaker 1: powerwash simulator. He likes Okay, so here's the thing. You
- 12:35Speaker 1: don't wait, wait, what is what is powerwash simulator? It
- 12:38Speaker 1: sounds it's exactly what it sounds like. You you're a
- 12:42Speaker 1: guy that goes around houses and you powerwash things, and
- 12:45Speaker 1: it's it's it's cathartic, dude, I'm telling you. It sounds
- 12:48Speaker 1: like a joke, but it's not. It is so cathartic
- 12:52Speaker 1: to sit there and just powerwash stuff.
- 12:54Speaker 4: A little cavat here, So simulation games with Justin and
- 12:58Speaker 4: I don't go over. Well, well no, because when I
- 13:01Speaker 4: lived in San Diego and we were playing farming simulator.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Oh my gosh.
- 13:06Speaker 4: The first thing he did in the game was ran
- 13:09Speaker 4: me over with the tractor and then he said, I
- 13:14Speaker 4: don't think.
- 13:15Speaker 3: I don't think. We were five minutes into the game.
- 13:16Speaker 3: He just plows me over.
- 13:17Speaker 1: Yeah, and he's still sitting there. He's like, how did
- 13:19Speaker 1: I survive that. I'm like, I don't know, dude. It's
- 13:21Speaker 1: a simulator, that's what. Well, that's what I'm thinking. Maybe
- 13:23Speaker 1: a simulator game would be cool. Like, well, no, because
- 13:26Speaker 1: here's the thing. Here's the thing. Eric and I what
- 13:28Speaker 1: what what? What? We like to do Him and I
- 13:30Speaker 1: at the end of the night, before he goes to bed,
- 13:32Speaker 1: we like to watch a particular YouTube channel called Let's
- 13:35Speaker 1: Game It Out, and it's a guy who all he
- 13:39Speaker 1: does is he gets he gets these early access simulation
- 13:42Speaker 1: games and he just completely makes fun of them and
- 13:46Speaker 1: he destroys them. He doesn't he doesn't play the game
- 13:48Speaker 1: as it's designed. He basically tests the game to its limits,
- 13:53Speaker 1: and he does crazy things with these games that the
- 13:56Speaker 1: developers are like, oh my god. We got to fix
- 13:59Speaker 1: these bugs. Like they do this on purpose. They'll send
- 14:01Speaker 1: it the game and let him explore the game, and
- 14:04Speaker 1: then they'll go back and they'll fix those bugs because
- 14:06Speaker 1: he's able to expose those bugs. But it becomes really
- 14:10Speaker 1: funny entertainment and Eric and I just love watching let's
- 14:14Speaker 1: game it out on YouTube. So anyway, that's why he
- 14:17Speaker 1: likes simulation games. So I've gotten him, uh a streamer
- 14:21Speaker 1: simulator where you basically get to be like a Twitch streamer.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Oh no, that's cool. Yeah, well, no, the game is horrible.
- 14:29Speaker 1: It's absolutely horrible. It's only like five. It can't be
- 14:32Speaker 1: powerwa Washing Simulator. Oh no, no, Power Washing Simulator is
- 14:36Speaker 1: a triple A title. It is like thirty or forty bucks,
- 14:39Speaker 1: and it is actually worth it. It's actually a really
- 14:41Speaker 1: good game. I got him Lawnmown Simulator, where like literally
- 14:45Speaker 1: you're just mowing lawns. Yeah, no, he loves it. He
- 14:49Speaker 1: hit our kids. We're supposed to get our kids outside
- 14:52Speaker 1: bone lawns were in the desert. We don't. Yeah, we
- 14:55Speaker 1: don't have that. He has to has to learn somehow. Yeah,
- 14:57Speaker 1: but anyway, he loves it. But I just I gotta
- 15:01Speaker 1: get him to play the actual games because he just
- 15:03Speaker 1: wants to watch. Let's game it out.
- 15:06Speaker 2: There is So you talked about Minecraft roadblocks. I know
- 15:11Speaker 2: he's been real big with younger set. Minecraft has been huge.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Now they got a movie coming out about and I'm
- 15:17Speaker 2: thinking we look at other movies like Postal.
- 15:19Speaker 1: The movie did not do that great. There's other movies
- 15:22Speaker 1: that came out that did not do that great. Wait,
- 15:25Speaker 1: there was a Postal movie.
- 15:26Speaker 2: There was a Postal movie. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we had
- 15:29Speaker 2: to wait. Yes, there was a screening we did in Tucson.
- 15:32Speaker 1: We were there. Tech Talk Radio was there. It was
- 15:34Speaker 1: all five of you, all five people that was it.
- 15:36Speaker 1: It was three of us.
- 15:38Speaker 2: And yeah, no, there were people there because you know,
- 15:40Speaker 2: the guy who created the game was from Tucson, Vince
- 15:43Speaker 2: DEDI I know, but but yeah, I mean and Udo
- 15:47Speaker 2: Kerr I think was the director. It was a pretty
- 15:50Speaker 2: awful movie it I mean, I'll be honest, it was.
- 15:53Speaker 1: The game was more fun to play.
- 15:55Speaker 2: But I'm thinking, will Minecraft and it's got some names
- 15:59Speaker 2: in it, will it be good?
- 16:01Speaker 1: Oh? I I don't know. I don't know about you, Sean,
- 16:04Speaker 1: but I'm looking forward to it because I mean, Jason Momoa,
- 16:08Speaker 1: Jack Black are the two big characters in it. The
- 16:10Speaker 1: final trailer that got released actually makes it look pretty
- 16:14Speaker 1: darn decent. I mean when it first got announced, I
- 16:16Speaker 1: was like, you gotta be kidding. Yeah, but no, but
- 16:18Speaker 1: it actually makes it look pretty darn good. And we
- 16:20Speaker 1: bought tickets, so Eric is really excited. We're gonna go
- 16:23Speaker 1: see it. I think it's not next Saturday, but the
- 16:26Speaker 1: Saturday after that.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Right, I just I just wonder will And for people
- 16:30Speaker 2: who don't know Minecraft, not everybody's played Minecraft.
- 16:34Speaker 1: I don't know if I have. Is that the one
- 16:36Speaker 1: where you run, you build things and you yeah, yeah blocks,
- 16:39Speaker 1: everything's in like a square block. Yeah yeah, so yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 16:42Speaker 1: you do a lot of building.
- 16:45Speaker 2: The plot of this movie, I don't I mean a
- 16:48Speaker 2: Call of Duty movie or a Metal of Honor movie.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Yeah, and there's a plot, but what would be the
- 16:52Speaker 1: plot for this Sean? You played Minecraft?
- 16:54Speaker 3: Right, yeah?
- 16:55Speaker 4: I so, yeah, I've played Minecraft since it came out. Yeah,
- 16:59Speaker 4: but it was well, however they call it the better
- 17:01Speaker 4: Rock Condition or whatever.
- 17:04Speaker 1: Java one.
- 17:05Speaker 3: Yeah, it came on Java. Yeah. It's fun.
- 17:10Speaker 4: I mean, it's it's it's you could play an adventure mode,
- 17:12Speaker 4: you can play in survival mode.
- 17:14Speaker 1: There's a couple of different motive mode.
- 17:16Speaker 3: Yeah, you just go in and you basically have to build.
- 17:19Speaker 4: You start with nothing and you literally have to go
- 17:22Speaker 4: punch a tree until you have enough wood to make
- 17:24Speaker 4: a wooden axe, and then you can you start developing
- 17:28Speaker 4: tools faster and faster and faster. But it's it's one
- 17:31Speaker 4: of those games where you can literally create anything.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Right, and and Eric has gotten so good at it.
- 17:40Speaker 4: Amazing There there is a collective of people that are
- 17:44Speaker 4: doing a one to one scale replica of Earth as Minecraft.
- 17:50Speaker 1: I mean, the worlds have gotten this, like the the
- 17:53Speaker 1: this the seed is going to literally be like it
- 17:56Speaker 1: will be as big as like if if you were
- 17:59Speaker 1: standing in one block, it would be you're standing in
- 18:03Speaker 1: my house.
- 18:03Speaker 3: Like they're making a scale version of Oh wow, cities
- 18:07Speaker 3: and everything.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it's it's actually pretty crazy. I mean no,
- 18:11Speaker 1: it's got a massive following and honestly, it got even
- 18:14Speaker 1: bigger when my when Microsoft purchased it. What have they
- 18:17Speaker 1: purchased it for? They purchased it from Notch. Notch was
- 18:19Speaker 1: the original creator Marcus Pearson went by Notch. Microsoft purchased it.
- 18:24Speaker 1: But I want to say, back in twenty twelve, I think,
- 18:28Speaker 1: and they purchased it for like a billion dollars or
- 18:30Speaker 1: something like that.
- 18:31Speaker 4: In twenty fourteen, Notch sold Minecraft Microsoft for two point
- 18:36Speaker 4: five billion.
- 18:36Speaker 1: Okay, I was a little off, little off, but yeah,
- 18:38Speaker 1: But anyway, Microsoft took this and ran with it, and
- 18:42Speaker 1: they have actually done a pretty darn good job. I mean,
- 18:45Speaker 1: first off, it was in Java, it was written in Java,
- 18:48Speaker 1: the language, the programming language. They recreated the entire game
- 18:52Speaker 1: in what they call Bedrock, which is what is now
- 18:55Speaker 1: the most the most played version because Bedrock can be
- 18:59Speaker 1: played across all platforms PlayStation, Xbox, PC, mold, witch Switch,
- 19:05Speaker 1: all of it, whereas Java can only be played on PC.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Some of the more hardcore players will play on Java
- 19:11Speaker 1: because there's a lot more modding allowed, but Bedrock is
- 19:15Speaker 1: catching up with that. But instead of modding, Bedrock allows
- 19:20Speaker 1: you to just purchase add ons and purchase mods. So
- 19:24Speaker 1: that's where Microsoft is making all their money off of.
- 19:26Speaker 1: But Eric has already spent probably a good couple hundred
- 19:30Speaker 1: dollars on Minecraft himself, wow, just buying like extra like
- 19:34Speaker 1: skins and cities and worlds. But some of the things
- 19:37Speaker 1: that he's created are just absolutely amazing, and he plays
- 19:40Speaker 1: with his friends all the time. They're all jumping online
- 19:43Speaker 1: at the same time, playing on a server. They just
- 19:46Speaker 1: love it.
- 19:46Speaker 2: That's pretty cool. Now you're talking about the laptop. I
- 19:49Speaker 2: showed one this couple weeks ago on KMSB and man,
- 19:55Speaker 2: I have not said it back yet. It's got to
- 19:57Speaker 2: go back this week. But it is from a sus
- 20:00Speaker 2: It's the rock Flow Z thirteen. And what's what's really
- 20:04Speaker 2: cool if you guys get a chance to look at this.
- 20:06Speaker 2: It features the a m D three ninety five processor,
- 20:11Speaker 2: it's got the uh, it's got a rising graphics card
- 20:16Speaker 2: in it, and it is pretty darn amazing. It sells
- 20:21Speaker 2: for about seventeen ninety nine. But it's a tablet, so
- 20:25Speaker 2: you know you're talking about, you know, a gaming laptop
- 20:28Speaker 2: or a tablet. It's an actual tablet with a keyboard,
- 20:31Speaker 2: and it's super thick. Does the Ara RGP so you
- 20:34Speaker 2: get that in the back, got it in the front.
- 20:36Speaker 2: But performance wise, and I haven't really played games with it.
- 20:39Speaker 2: I've just got on it and I've been you know,
- 20:42Speaker 2: just setting it through the ringer and jumping online doing this,
- 20:44Speaker 2: doing that, and I've been really pleased with it. I'm
- 20:47Speaker 2: pretty sure with games it would be pretty pretty awesome.
- 20:50Speaker 2: So if you know, if you get a chance to
- 20:52Speaker 2: check out the video where we show the product, I'm
- 20:54Speaker 2: going to do another video on it before I send
- 20:57Speaker 2: it back that I want to show give you a
- 20:59Speaker 2: better look because you can see all the ports on
- 21:01Speaker 2: it that are available. Again, the pricing not too bad.
- 21:04Speaker 2: The other one I'm gonna do is something that I
- 21:06Speaker 2: showed this past week. Now, Sean, I know you've been
- 21:08Speaker 2: a big fan of the EPSOM Fast Photo six eighty W.
- 21:12Speaker 2: We've talked about it for the last like four shows.
- 21:15Speaker 2: This week I tested out. Unfortunately didn't go so good
- 21:18Speaker 2: on live TV. You guys worked in TV, you know
- 21:20Speaker 2: what I'm talking about. But I showed the EPSOM are
- 21:24Speaker 2: our six hundred W. It's a rapid receipt scanner, and
- 21:28Speaker 2: so if you're around tax time or you have a
- 21:31Speaker 2: business justin you've got a business you want to organize
- 21:34Speaker 2: your receipts.
- 21:35Speaker 1: You could scan up to one hundred receipts into your computer,
- 21:40Speaker 1: or you could do it into your smartphone if you
- 21:42Speaker 1: do the wirelessly and it scans it about thirty five
- 21:44Speaker 1: pages per minute. Can also scan front and back. Can
- 21:48Speaker 1: also scan photos six hundred dpi or three hundred dpi,
- 21:52Speaker 1: not like the six's eighty, which can go I believe.
- 21:55Speaker 1: Didn't you say that goes up to twelve hundred.
- 21:57Speaker 4: Chun do up to twelve Yeah, well I think it
- 22:01Speaker 4: goes even higher than that. But twelve hundred is kind
- 22:03Speaker 4: of like the if three hundred and six hundred twelve
- 22:06Speaker 4: hundred those are kind of like the fast modes.
- 22:08Speaker 3: Right in three hundred.
- 22:09Speaker 4: DEPI it'll do like a photo every faster than every second.
- 22:13Speaker 4: Six hundred it's at least one a second, goes really fast.
- 22:16Speaker 4: Twelve hundred it takes about three seconds per photo scan.
- 22:21Speaker 4: But the quality on the six hundred DEPI is way
- 22:25Speaker 4: is it's so good.
- 22:27Speaker 3: This is good enough for yeah.
- 22:30Speaker 4: Digital archives, Like I'm not gonna sit there and scan
- 22:33Speaker 4: all these any higher than six hundred DEPI. For I've
- 22:37Speaker 4: printed some I'm already from just Walgreens with the Google
- 22:40Speaker 4: Photos app and they look fine.
- 22:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:43Speaker 2: So it's it's pretty amazing stuff that it will do.
- 22:47Speaker 2: It also, like I said, does front back, but it
- 22:51Speaker 2: also using the scan smart software that is part of EPSOM.
- 22:55Speaker 2: You could put it into quick books or TurboTax, or
- 22:58Speaker 2: you could just organize it, and it will it uses
- 23:02Speaker 2: it uses AI to look at it and say, this
- 23:05Speaker 2: is a receipt for auto repair, this is a receipt
- 23:07Speaker 2: for a home repair, This is a receipt for business supplies,
- 23:12Speaker 2: and it will it actually will put that as far
- 23:15Speaker 2: as where the product was bought, how much it was,
- 23:18Speaker 2: what the tax was, everything. So you know, if you're
- 23:20Speaker 2: looking for a receipt to help you, get a receipt
- 23:23Speaker 2: scanner to help you get organized.
- 23:24Speaker 1: This one's pretty good, and I've.
- 23:26Speaker 2: Used other ones, smaller ones like Visioneer EPSOM. This one though,
- 23:30Speaker 2: is probably their top of the line now. And again
- 23:34Speaker 2: that's the sixth it's the r R six hundred W.
- 23:37Speaker 2: But when I went to demo in on TV, I
- 23:40Speaker 2: didn't set it up for Wi Fi. I've set it
- 23:43Speaker 2: up for USB. So we're going through the entire segment
- 23:46Speaker 2: trying to figure out why is it not scanning. We
- 23:49Speaker 2: hit the button, nothing is happening, and then I look
- 23:52Speaker 2: down and I see it's not plugged into the computer.
- 23:58Speaker 2: And so of course I said, well that that means
- 24:00Speaker 2: I will be putting a video up on our website.
- 24:02Speaker 2: And then of course Tyler Butler said, yeah, Andy Taylor
- 24:06Speaker 2: are tech expert through me under the bus. I love
- 24:11Speaker 2: it so yeah, but I will I will be posting.
- 24:14Speaker 4: You should rewatch the show and point out any technical
- 24:16Speaker 4: mistakes they make on TV, right the tech expert.
- 24:22Speaker 1: That would be kind of cool. All right, we got
- 24:24Speaker 1: to take a break. We come back.
- 24:26Speaker 2: We're going to talk more about technology. What is going
- 24:29Speaker 2: on with Microsoft? Why are they making so many changes?
- 24:34Speaker 2: Somebody said, I think it's because they want everybody to
- 24:36Speaker 2: go to Linux. Well I don't think that's the case,
- 24:38Speaker 2: but we'll talk about that we come back. I'm Andy Taylor.
- 24:42Speaker 1: I'm Sean de Weird, and I'm justin. Let me find
- 24:44Speaker 1: us online at tech talk radio dot com. We'll be
- 24:47Speaker 1: right back and now back to tech talk Radio changes.
- 24:52Speaker 2: James like, we just keep seeing changes when it comes
- 24:55Speaker 2: to Microsoft. And while we know that you know in October,
- 24:59Speaker 2: that'll be it for Windows ten as far as support,
- 25:01Speaker 2: it'll still work, if you have it, it'll still work.
- 25:06Speaker 2: But we're seeing a lot of changes. This week, it
- 25:08Speaker 2: was announced at one Note that a lot of people
- 25:11Speaker 2: use for Windows ten will be going away.
- 25:14Speaker 1: Skype will be going away.
- 25:17Speaker 4: And I think I'm hard pressed. That's big the Skype one.
- 25:24Speaker 1: Yeah, oh yeah, are they just going to integrate it
- 25:26Speaker 1: into teams. Now.
- 25:27Speaker 2: Well, yeah, here's my problem with it. So, and they
- 25:31Speaker 2: just took the money out of my account. I pay
- 25:34Speaker 2: for a Skype phone line. So Skype gave me a number.
- 25:39Speaker 2: I pay for it, and that is a phone line
- 25:41Speaker 2: that we use for if I have to do an
- 25:44Speaker 2: interview with this somebody, I give them a phone line
- 25:47Speaker 2: and instead of giving them an email address. And it's
- 25:50Speaker 2: been great, but they're telling me that that's going away
- 25:54Speaker 2: in May. So my phone line is no longer going
- 25:57Speaker 2: to work because Teams is not going to be using
- 26:00Speaker 2: a phone line at least I don't think so.
- 26:04Speaker 1: I don't. I haven't heard anything about that. Yeah, that's weird.
- 26:06Speaker 3: Yeah, so you can still you can still call in.
- 26:10Speaker 1: You think so? Well, actually, yeah, you're right, you're right.
- 26:13Speaker 1: If you host a team's meeting, it does give you
- 26:15Speaker 1: call in phone. I could I can call it. I
- 26:17Speaker 1: can call into this Zoom.
- 26:18Speaker 3: Meeting right now.
- 26:19Speaker 1: You could.
- 26:19Speaker 4: You could just open a Zoom call and say here's
- 26:22Speaker 4: what you don't pay for it, and they'll just die.
- 26:24Speaker 3: They'll call into this Zoom meeting.
- 26:26Speaker 2: Yeah, but the phone number is a Skype phone number.
- 26:30Speaker 2: So I'm wondering if Skype the interface could go away,
- 26:33Speaker 2: so my phone number won't work anymore.
- 26:34Speaker 1: But it probably you probably won't be able to have
- 26:36Speaker 1: a dedicated phone number because every time you launch a
- 26:38Speaker 1: new Teams meeting, or just like with Zoom, every time
- 26:41Speaker 1: you launch a Zoom meeting, it's going to give you
- 26:43Speaker 1: a different phone number to call into or a different
- 26:45Speaker 1: access code at least.
- 26:46Speaker 2: So I was thinking, Okay, I have to go back
- 26:48Speaker 2: to Voipe, or go back to Vantage, or go back
- 26:50Speaker 2: to No.
- 26:51Speaker 1: Just use the bill, use Zoom Zoom, use Zoom phone number.
- 26:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I like Zoom a lot better. I don't know,
- 26:58Speaker 2: do you think that's the reason. I mean, even though
- 27:01Speaker 2: you know, after the pandemic was Zoom. You know, Zoom
- 27:05Speaker 2: user count was down quite a bit, and they were
- 27:09Speaker 2: saying that, you know, people weren't using the service as much.
- 27:11Speaker 2: They work from home, meetings aren't aren't as big. I
- 27:14Speaker 2: pay for Zoom and I love it. I think it's
- 27:16Speaker 2: one of the best out there. But I paid for
- 27:19Speaker 2: Skype as well, just so I could have a phone number.
- 27:21Speaker 1: I would stop doing that.
- 27:22Speaker 3: Well, do you remember we used to That's how we
- 27:24Speaker 3: used to do these shows.
- 27:26Speaker 1: We used to do it with with Skype. Yes, Skype.
- 27:30Speaker 4: Skype was how I before Discord was around before. That's
- 27:35Speaker 4: how we did video chats and everything that my friends
- 27:38Speaker 4: for gaming and stuff was all Skype.
- 27:40Speaker 1: Right, Uh, team I would I did a little you know,
- 27:43Speaker 1: team speak and stuff. Yeah, yeah, OK.
- 27:46Speaker 3: Skype was also like Skype.
- 27:48Speaker 4: We used it a lot for confidence returns at work
- 27:52Speaker 4: where we would feed it. We had a like a
- 27:54Speaker 4: decling card or an SDI input into a computer running
- 27:57Speaker 4: Skype and make the video source that your you know,
- 28:00Speaker 4: your video signal in and it's sub it was sub
- 28:05Speaker 4: one second latency over because Skype had the best lowest
- 28:09Speaker 4: latency deliverable out of any of the video chat platforms.
- 28:13Speaker 3: So even over public internet you.
- 28:15Speaker 4: Could get a half a second to one second latency
- 28:18Speaker 4: on video return.
- 28:19Speaker 3: So so we used to use it.
- 28:20Speaker 4: We used to use it for live shots where if
- 28:22Speaker 4: you needed to see your return to call highlights or
- 28:25Speaker 4: you know, see see your INTERVIEWEE or whatever, we would
- 28:28Speaker 4: just put a laptop on Skype and view the program
- 28:31Speaker 4: return from the station.
- 28:32Speaker 1: Now you should be able to do that the same
- 28:34Speaker 1: feature with teams. You could do it with any.
- 28:36Speaker 4: Of them now and they're all so good now but
- 28:38Speaker 4: at the time, Skype was just so ahead of the
- 28:42Speaker 4: game in terms of bandwidth, and it was like, I'm
- 28:45Speaker 4: hard pressed to find believe that they're going to moonlight it,
- 28:48Speaker 4: but they just went with teams.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 28:52Speaker 2: Well, you know the thing is that they've just been
- 28:54Speaker 2: making so many changes every time you turn around, and
- 28:57Speaker 2: I understand that sometimes you've got to remove some of
- 29:01Speaker 2: the programs that aren't working or causing issues that maybe
- 29:05Speaker 2: cause more work, and you have to make changes. You know,
- 29:08Speaker 2: will people bail and suddenly go to Apple or will
- 29:11Speaker 2: they look at Linux.
- 29:13Speaker 1: Type of distributions. Yeah, I don't.
- 29:15Speaker 2: I really don't think they will. And I think most
- 29:18Speaker 2: people will just go with the flow to say, okay,
- 29:20Speaker 2: well I'll deal with it.
- 29:21Speaker 1: You got like Slack, and you've got you know, other
- 29:24Speaker 1: platforms out there. I mean, you can even just do
- 29:26Speaker 1: like Discord. I guess you could do that too. Well. True,
- 29:29Speaker 1: you're true.
- 29:29Speaker 2: I mean there are more options now than certainly we
- 29:33Speaker 2: had before with some of those other choices for messaging
- 29:37Speaker 2: communication software.
- 29:38Speaker 1: That's true. But what discord is more. You know, with computers,
- 29:41Speaker 1: you're not going to have like a phone number or
- 29:43Speaker 1: something to call into. Well, the quality. I like discords quality.
- 29:47Speaker 2: That you get with Zoom is pretty amazing. And I've
- 29:51Speaker 2: been able to try what we pay for and then
- 29:53Speaker 2: I've been able to try out the higher quality that
- 29:57Speaker 2: actually is you know, HD, and it's pretty amazing. And
- 30:01Speaker 2: it's only about five dollars more a month, So I
- 30:02Speaker 2: was thinking I might just go ahead and bite the
- 30:04Speaker 2: bullet and do that, so then you know, we could
- 30:06Speaker 2: be all in HD, which.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Is yeah, kind of cool. Can try it, Let's see
- 30:11Speaker 1: what happens. Yeah, So yeah, they're making a lot of changes.
- 30:14Speaker 1: I don't know why. Why do you think they're doing it?
- 30:15Speaker 1: It's just just Windows. I don't know. I part of
- 30:20Speaker 1: the things that they're trying to get people ready for
- 30:22Speaker 1: Windows twelve. I mean I think Windows twelve is just
- 30:24Speaker 1: right around the corner right personally now in the timeline
- 30:27Speaker 1: of operating systems, you know, you had like great ones
- 30:30Speaker 1: and then you'd have one in the middle that would
- 30:32Speaker 1: just like Windows eight before that, ye, I mean you
- 30:36Speaker 1: had it was it's like every other version of Windows
- 30:40Speaker 1: right is good like and I think there was actually
- 30:43Speaker 1: an article about it. But there are like two teams
- 30:46Speaker 1: that work on Windows. There's the one that works on
- 30:50Speaker 1: the Vistas and the eights, right and the elevens, and
- 30:55Speaker 1: then you got the team that works on the XP
- 30:57Speaker 1: and the seven and the ten right right, So those
- 31:01Speaker 1: are the ones that are good, whereas the Vista and
- 31:04Speaker 1: the Windows eight and the Windows eleven they're the bad ones. Right.
- 31:09Speaker 1: So that means like twelve by if logic follow, that
- 31:13Speaker 1: means twelve is gonna have to be really good. Right. Well,
- 31:17Speaker 1: what the Windows ten we thought was great? And actually
- 31:19Speaker 1: Windows ten have been around a while when you're looking
- 31:22Speaker 1: at that same with seven. Seven was around forever yea.
- 31:24Speaker 1: So it was XP right, and it was the same
- 31:26Speaker 1: team that worked on XP, that worked on seven, that
- 31:29Speaker 1: worked on ten. There was no Windows nine, was there? No,
- 31:32Speaker 1: it was eight point one because the Windows eight was
- 31:34Speaker 1: so bad they had to release a Dot one update. Boy,
- 31:40Speaker 1: I'll tell you I I had a build of a
- 31:43Speaker 1: new computer for our studio this week that just went awry.
- 31:47Speaker 1: It was awful.
- 31:48Speaker 2: I ended up, you know, buying part of it. I've
- 31:51Speaker 2: had a seven ninety and ACWOC seven ninety motherboard for
- 31:55Speaker 2: a while as wireless the whole bit, and I finally decided, okay,
- 31:59Speaker 2: I need update the computer in here.
- 32:01Speaker 1: To Windows eleven. So I went ahead.
- 32:04Speaker 2: I bought a I found an eye set I want
- 32:07Speaker 2: to say it was an I seven processor, not that
- 32:11Speaker 2: much money and it uh. I got it in and
- 32:17Speaker 2: I thought I had to have a graphics card with it.
- 32:19Speaker 2: So I ordered a Zoe Tac ten eighty because it's
- 32:22Speaker 2: just all that does is record audio.
- 32:24Speaker 1: That's it.
- 32:25Speaker 2: Got that got myself a sound blast Ology card because
- 32:29Speaker 2: I thought, okay, cool, and then I put the I
- 32:34Speaker 2: go to install everything, and halfway through it would just
- 32:37Speaker 2: go to black nothing, no grap nothing, nothing.
- 32:41Speaker 1: No video.
- 32:43Speaker 2: And the only way I get it back reboot the computer.
- 32:46Speaker 2: Nothing would come up.
- 32:47Speaker 1: You'd try to go into Windows nothing, I'd have to
- 32:49Speaker 1: go into reinstalling and I have to reinstall Windows. That's
- 32:54Speaker 1: the only way. And it was driving me nuts.
- 32:57Speaker 2: So eventually I found out that the insince where I
- 33:00Speaker 2: got was was the kind that you didn't have to
- 33:04Speaker 2: need a graphics card for.
- 33:06Speaker 1: And I thought, oh, what an idiot.
- 33:07Speaker 2: So I sent the gra I sent the graphics board back,
- 33:10Speaker 2: got my money back for it. Then the fan that
- 33:13Speaker 2: I was trying to install wouldn't spin. It would light
- 33:16Speaker 2: up great, but it wouldn't spin. Then I went on,
- 33:19Speaker 2: I went online. I'm reading everything nothing, and then I
- 33:22Speaker 2: thought remembered I had a fan in the garage. I
- 33:25Speaker 2: go in the griage, I grab it, I plug it
- 33:27Speaker 2: in and it spins. So obviously it was the fan.
- 33:31Speaker 2: So next morning I get a new one, plug it.
- 33:34Speaker 1: Everything's going good with it.
- 33:36Speaker 2: So right now it's working, but I can't get the
- 33:40Speaker 2: sound right. And I'm using that sound blaster card. I'm
- 33:42Speaker 2: ready to pull that thing out of there and just
- 33:44Speaker 2: go with sound off the board. This is probably gonna
- 33:47Speaker 2: be just as good, right.
- 33:50Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I mean it won't be right in terms
- 33:53Speaker 4: of quality, right, if you're for your audio file, it'll
- 33:56Speaker 4: make a difference. But for the general consumer, just using
- 33:59Speaker 4: on board audios can be fine.
- 34:00Speaker 1: Yeah. But we've talked about this before.
- 34:02Speaker 3: Yeah, we've talked about this before.
- 34:04Speaker 4: You know, what were the days of needing a creole
- 34:08Speaker 4: Creole D three D sound blaster voodoo yeah, whatever, you know,
- 34:14Speaker 4: all those fun remember, you know, remembering all those specific
- 34:18Speaker 4: you know, hardware cards that you can get that had
- 34:21Speaker 4: you know, the optical outs and all that stuff.
- 34:24Speaker 3: Good stuff too. So but yeah, you'll be fine with
- 34:27Speaker 3: just on board.
- 34:28Speaker 2: That's what I'm thinking. I may just do that if
- 34:30Speaker 2: I can't figure this out because normally, and it's funny
- 34:33Speaker 2: because I went to the old computer. I hooked up
- 34:35Speaker 2: the old computer again, and I don't have the problems
- 34:38Speaker 2: that I have with the new one. The new one,
- 34:40Speaker 2: you crack the microphone and it plays out over the speakers.
- 34:44Speaker 2: It shouldn't the I don't know why it does, so
- 34:48Speaker 2: I'll have to figure it out. But yeah, you have
- 34:51Speaker 2: this has been the worst build I've ever had. Normally
- 34:54Speaker 2: I have them put together in about forty five minutes
- 34:56Speaker 2: to an hour.
- 34:57Speaker 1: No, not in this case. How many bills have you
- 35:00Speaker 1: done in your life?
- 35:03Speaker 2: When I had a business, I would I would build
- 35:05Speaker 2: them for companies. I mean I just a couple of
- 35:08Speaker 2: years ago built one for a graphics design shop and
- 35:11Speaker 2: they love it. It's still working great. But I would say
- 35:14Speaker 2: close to about thirty maybe forty, and the rest have
- 35:18Speaker 2: been support. So yeah, this is and but we're going
- 35:21Speaker 2: back to three eighty six days I've built. I've built
- 35:25Speaker 2: three eighty sixes. I've built the old h Do you
- 35:27Speaker 2: remember the AMD the original AMD processors, those d X
- 35:34Speaker 2: d X forty and if you remember those, yeah, I.
- 35:39Speaker 4: Didn't really get into building my own PCs until like
- 35:42Speaker 4: the Core two duo days, Right.
- 35:45Speaker 2: I just like it when you could put everything in
- 35:46Speaker 2: and it just it works. Fine, everything's good, you don't
- 35:50Speaker 2: have to worry about I really.
- 35:51Speaker 1: Liked it when I could build a computer without bleeding
- 35:53Speaker 1: on it. I've done that.
- 35:55Speaker 3: That's never gonna happen. If you were building your own PC,
- 35:58Speaker 3: you are going to blue, yes, because.
- 36:00Speaker 4: You're gonna you're gonna pull out you're gonna put it,
- 36:02Speaker 4: pull out an expansion slot, or you're gonna you know,
- 36:05Speaker 4: you're gonna try and put in the IO.
- 36:07Speaker 1: Shield, your finger on the motherboard or so.
- 36:10Speaker 3: Oh yeah, you're gonna you're gonna you're gonna bleed.
- 36:13Speaker 4: Yeah, it's it's the sacrifice for technology.
- 36:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:17Speaker 2: It was great though, because you know I have to
- 36:18Speaker 2: do my blood tests. You know, I have to take
- 36:20Speaker 2: the sample and make sure you know, that got too
- 36:22Speaker 2: much glucose in it. So when I did was building
- 36:25Speaker 2: the computer, I go, oh a slice, Oh better go
- 36:28Speaker 2: take my test. Served the purpose all right? Listen, we
- 36:33Speaker 2: got a great guest standing by that I talked to.
- 36:36Speaker 2: UH that is all about safety and security for your kids.
- 36:40Speaker 2: Justin you were talking about what's the service that you
- 36:43Speaker 2: were using for UH, for your son, that.
- 36:47Speaker 1: The oh, the the uh shoot Custodio.
- 36:52Speaker 2: There's another one out there called Bark and Titanya Jordan
- 36:56Speaker 2: uh is one of the grand poobas there at Bark
- 36:59Speaker 2: has put together her second book called Parental Control, A
- 37:02Speaker 2: Guide to Raising Balanced Kids in the Digital Era, and
- 37:06Speaker 2: it talks to everything about the different the different things
- 37:10Speaker 2: that are out there, like that many parents don't know
- 37:12Speaker 2: about Snapchat, TikTok, Facebook, there are other site Reddit, there's
- 37:18Speaker 2: other sites that can be great but can also lead
- 37:21Speaker 2: them down a pretty dark path. So again she's gonna
- 37:25Speaker 2: talk to us about that, going to talk to us
- 37:27Speaker 2: about what's safer Android or iPhone when it comes to
- 37:32Speaker 2: security for your kids.
- 37:33Speaker 1: So we're gonna do that.
- 37:34Speaker 2: And when we come back with tech Talk Radio, I'm
- 37:36Speaker 2: Andy Taylor, I'm Sean de.
- 37:38Speaker 1: Weird, and I'm justin. Let me send us an ex
- 37:41Speaker 1: at tech talk Radio. We'll be right back now back
- 37:44Speaker 1: to tech talk Radio.
- 37:46Speaker 4: Hey, go by the science guy here.
- 37:49Speaker 1: Whatever. I am listening to the radio, especially tech Talk Radio.
- 37:53Speaker 1: It's such a party when it comes to our children.
- 37:58Speaker 2: We've talked quite a bit about safety when it comes
- 38:01Speaker 2: to the Internet and some of the things that you know,
- 38:04Speaker 2: we parents like to think we know, but honestly, there's
- 38:07Speaker 2: a lot more going on in the Internet that maybe
- 38:10Speaker 2: we're not aware of, and sometimes getting all the answers
- 38:13Speaker 2: can be difficult. Some of us have relied on software,
- 38:16Speaker 2: which really is not the end all solution.
- 38:18Speaker 1: We should really.
- 38:19Speaker 2: Understand what is going on with devices, tablets, computers, the
- 38:24Speaker 2: whole bit. Tatania Jordan is CMO and Chief Parent Officer
- 38:28Speaker 2: and I love that with Bart Technologies and like me,
- 38:33Speaker 2: has done television segments about technology and how it affects
- 38:36Speaker 2: business and families as well. And she has a book
- 38:39Speaker 2: that she put out back in twenty twenty called Parenting
- 38:42Speaker 2: in a Tech World, and then she's got a brand
- 38:45Speaker 2: new one just released this week, Parental Control, a Guide
- 38:49Speaker 2: to Raising balanced Kids in the Digital Era. Tatanya, thank
- 38:53Speaker 2: you so much for coming on tech Talk Radio.
- 38:55Speaker 5: Thank you for having me.
- 38:57Speaker 2: Now I tell you the book. You just held it up.
- 38:59Speaker 2: Can you hold that up again, because I want our
- 39:01Speaker 2: viewers to see this. It really indicates what parents should
- 39:04Speaker 2: know because there are shark fins in the waters of
- 39:08Speaker 2: the Internet, and you know what made you decide to
- 39:11Speaker 2: kind of, you know, write this as a follow up
- 39:14Speaker 2: book to the first book.
- 39:15Speaker 5: Well, the first book came out around twenty twenty, and
- 39:19Speaker 5: now it's twenty twenty five, so we're half a decade
- 39:22Speaker 5: in which is you and I both know in tech
- 39:25Speaker 5: years is exponentially more and so much has happened since
- 39:29Speaker 5: since I co wrote that first book, so wanted to
- 39:32Speaker 5: give parents an update. We know more, and when you
- 39:35Speaker 5: know more, you can do better, and wanted to give
- 39:37Speaker 5: parents the most current information possible. Also, in twenty twenty,
- 39:43Speaker 5: my son was a lot younger, and now he's sixteen,
- 39:48Speaker 5: And these past five years have been a doozy, and
- 39:51Speaker 5: I've learned a lot as a parent that I wish
- 39:54Speaker 5: I knew back then, and hopefully can impart to other
- 39:57Speaker 5: parents so they don't make the same mistakes that I did.
- 40:00Speaker 1: Don't want to wait till it's too late.
- 40:02Speaker 5: They shouldn't wait until it's too late. When you're working
- 40:06Speaker 5: in a time of crisis, it's a lot more stressful
- 40:08Speaker 5: and a lot more difficult than if you're working proactively
- 40:11Speaker 5: during a time of peace and calm and understanding. So
- 40:15Speaker 5: better to get ahead of things than to have to
- 40:18Speaker 5: be in crisis mode.
- 40:20Speaker 1: Now there's a lot going on. When it comes to texting.
- 40:23Speaker 2: We want our kids to have smartphones to be able
- 40:27Speaker 2: to reach out to us for safety.
- 40:29Speaker 1: They can be good.
- 40:30Speaker 2: There's that question that always goes around about what age
- 40:34Speaker 2: should a child have a smartphone. But they're pretty much
- 40:37Speaker 2: going to start texting right away if they get one.
- 40:40Speaker 2: But a lot of us don't understand that they can
- 40:42Speaker 2: have full conversations with emojis. But some of these emojis
- 40:45Speaker 2: are really not what they represent one.
- 40:47Speaker 5: Under a lot of people don't realize that texting is
- 40:50Speaker 5: social media. It is a form of media that is social.
- 40:54Speaker 5: So there's that emojis. There are so many emojis, so
- 40:59Speaker 5: many acronyms that parents don't realize mean what they mean today.
- 41:03Speaker 5: One example of that is the plate of spaghetti noodles.
- 41:07Speaker 5: You know, if I sent you that, it might be like, hey,
- 41:11Speaker 5: I'm inviting you over for Italian dinner, and you'd be
- 41:13Speaker 5: like cool.
- 41:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:14Speaker 5: But if you're thirteen and that emoji gets sent, noodles
- 41:18Speaker 5: sounds like nuds, and you can see how that can
- 41:20Speaker 5: spiral very quickly pardon the pun with spiral and.
- 41:24Speaker 2: Possible Yeah, absolutely, Oh my gosh. See a lot of
- 41:27Speaker 2: parents don't know this. We know of the obvious ones,
- 41:29Speaker 2: the peach and the other ones. But that's again, this
- 41:33Speaker 2: whole new language seems to come around every six months.
- 41:36Speaker 2: Something changes, something is added, and while the consortium puts
- 41:40Speaker 2: out the emojis, we have no idea how they're going
- 41:42Speaker 2: to eventually be used.
- 41:44Speaker 5: Well, no human can keep up. And that's why I'm
- 41:48Speaker 5: so proud of the algorithm at Bark. Our machine learning,
- 41:52Speaker 5: our engineering, our data scientists are able to take that
- 41:55Speaker 5: real time analysis of teen and tween speak, feed it
- 42:00Speaker 5: back into the system and help alert parents because we
- 42:03Speaker 5: can keep up with all of this.
- 42:05Speaker 1: Yeah. Now with Bark, can users then set up their smartphones, tablets,
- 42:10Speaker 1: computers to i want to say, be monitored or be
- 42:14Speaker 1: able to give this information to the parents.
- 42:16Speaker 5: Yes, yeah, If you want to utilize the Bark app
- 42:21Speaker 5: for your child's iPhone or Android phone, or if you
- 42:25Speaker 5: want to buy your child a safer smartphone, you can
- 42:28Speaker 5: go with the Bark phone. If you want to buy
- 42:29Speaker 5: your child a safer smart watch, you can go with
- 42:31Speaker 5: the Bark watch. So those options will proactively alert you
- 42:35Speaker 5: when your children are encountering dangerous content like emojis to
- 42:39Speaker 5: ask for nudes or dangerous people.
- 42:42Speaker 2: Yeah, dangerous people that's the one to worry about as well. Now,
- 42:45Speaker 2: when it comes to security on our devices, are androids
- 42:48Speaker 2: better than iPhones? Do you find that there's some that
- 42:52Speaker 2: work better for the for that younger set they're going
- 42:55Speaker 2: to use them.
- 42:56Speaker 5: Yeah, it's such a problematic situation right now because the
- 43:02Speaker 5: popular is the iPhone. Everybody wants it. It's the new
- 43:06Speaker 5: shiny thing, right. But the safest for children and the
- 43:12Speaker 5: easiest for a parent to manage is an android. So
- 43:17Speaker 5: we have to be better parents and not give our
- 43:20Speaker 5: children what they want, but what they need? Do they
- 43:24Speaker 5: need the ability to communicate safely? Great, there's plenty of
- 43:28Speaker 5: options for that that you don't have to give your
- 43:30Speaker 5: kid a Ferrari when they turned sixteen, So don't give
- 43:32Speaker 5: them one thousand dollars smartphone that prioritizes privacy over their safety.
- 43:37Speaker 2: Now, what happens? This is going to show my age,
- 43:42Speaker 2: all right? So I used to watch Mash on television.
- 43:45Speaker 2: I loved it, and I remember going to the surplus
- 43:48Speaker 2: store me and my buddy watched it and we bought
- 43:50Speaker 2: the military jackets and we wore those to school and
- 43:53Speaker 2: we were all decked out and it was cool.
- 43:55Speaker 1: We lived that. But what happens when my parents never
- 43:59Speaker 1: tried to take away my military jacket. But what happens
- 44:02Speaker 1: when a child has been so absorbed into the smartphone
- 44:05Speaker 1: that those warning signs start coming up for a parent
- 44:09Speaker 1: and they've got to do something? Time outs is there?
- 44:12Speaker 2: I mean, what's really going to be the best way
- 44:15Speaker 2: to help enforce being a parent and saying no, no,
- 44:18Speaker 2: I think you're going a little too far with this.
- 44:21Speaker 5: I would say again back to the being proactive point,
- 44:24Speaker 5: Delay is the way. You know, it's so much better
- 44:29Speaker 5: for you to wait, to let your child have access
- 44:32Speaker 5: to all of the things. Don't feel pressured to do
- 44:36Speaker 5: it just because all of their friends have. It doesn't
- 44:38Speaker 5: mean it's right, doesn't mean that those parents are making
- 44:40Speaker 5: the right choices. So delay is the way. If you
- 44:45Speaker 5: are observing that your child's behavior grades, appetite, demeanor, interest
- 44:51Speaker 5: in real life activities is changing as a result of
- 44:55Speaker 5: their screen time and use, it's time to change things. Yeah,
- 45:00Speaker 5: and ps, they're not going to like it. There might
- 45:03Speaker 5: be tantrums, things might get thrown. They're going to be
- 45:07Speaker 5: mad at you. They might call you names. That's what
- 45:09Speaker 5: an addict does. Right, If you take away my ice
- 45:12Speaker 5: cream while I'm still eating it. I'm going to get
- 45:14Speaker 5: mad at you, but doesn't mean you shouldn't do it.
- 45:16Speaker 5: I'm not supposed to eat the whole thing in one sitting,
- 45:19Speaker 5: So we have got to be the parent and do
- 45:22Speaker 5: it's best for our children.
- 45:24Speaker 1: Now.
- 45:24Speaker 2: I'm on pretty much all the social apps and needed
- 45:27Speaker 2: to do it, you know, of course, to know what
- 45:28Speaker 2: I'm talking about, I've seen stuff on Snapchat that will
- 45:33Speaker 2: quirrel my eyebrows, TikTok is.
- 45:35Speaker 1: I don't know. Is there one app.
- 45:37Speaker 2: That is a little more dangerous that maybe you don't
- 45:40Speaker 2: want your kids to have.
- 45:41Speaker 5: Any application or game or tech that allows strangers to
- 45:47Speaker 5: communicate with your child is inherently dangerous. That said, if
- 45:53Speaker 5: I have to pick one or the most dangerous, I
- 45:55Speaker 5: would say it's Snapchat. Snapchat has so many issues, and
- 46:00Speaker 5: one of the reasons why it's so dangerous because so
- 46:02Speaker 5: many children are flocking to it. The whole premise of
- 46:06Speaker 5: Snapchat was built upon nudes sending nudes nudes that disappeared,
- 46:12Speaker 5: So why are we allowing our children to support a
- 46:15Speaker 5: platform that base their launch on that.
- 46:20Speaker 2: I didn't even know that, and I'm sure I'm saying
- 46:22Speaker 2: I'm on it.
- 46:23Speaker 5: Yeah, but that's why they launched it. Yea was people
- 46:27Speaker 5: send nudes. Snapchat has snap maps that shows your child's
- 46:32Speaker 5: real time live location to anyone they're connected to. Not
- 46:36Speaker 5: a problem if it's five of their closest friends. Most
- 46:39Speaker 5: kids are connected to more than five people and people
- 46:41Speaker 5: they don't know. With Snapchat, drug dealers are are able
- 46:46Speaker 5: to distribute drugs to children as easily and quickly as
- 46:49Speaker 5: a pizza, drugs that have fetanyl in them. It's just
- 46:53Speaker 5: there's so so many dangerous within Snapchat. There's a chat
- 46:57Speaker 5: bought my AI that can lead chill, learn astray, give
- 47:01Speaker 5: them misinformation or information that is harmful to them. Snapchat
- 47:05Speaker 5: offers a photo vault inside of the app for my
- 47:08Speaker 5: eyes only. You know, why does a child need a
- 47:11Speaker 5: photo vault that is private and only accessible by them?
- 47:15Speaker 2: Exactly exactly and it opens a gateway. Kind of worries
- 47:18Speaker 2: me because it could open a gateway to OnlyFans in
- 47:21Speaker 2: some of these these other areas that the kids have
- 47:24Speaker 2: no idea and they just think, oh, it's okay, everybody
- 47:26Speaker 2: else is doing it.
- 47:27Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, and from the mental health aspect, the
- 47:31Speaker 5: gamification of it to encourage children to keep snapping with
- 47:35Speaker 5: each other to have snapstreaks. It's the content they can
- 47:40Speaker 5: encounter there, not uplifting, not helpful, not educational, not not
- 47:45Speaker 5: always not, but a lot of times not. You might
- 47:49Speaker 5: not want your children to have access to things like
- 47:53Speaker 5: you know, HBO whatever, and.
- 47:55Speaker 1: It's or even violent content, right, I mean that's.
- 47:58Speaker 5: Violent content, sexual content, content that glorifies disordered eating and
- 48:04Speaker 5: cutting and suicidal ideation, misinformation like it's not good.
- 48:10Speaker 2: Is some of this stuff covered in the book the
- 48:13Speaker 2: new book that's out, which is of course, Parental Control,
- 48:16Speaker 2: a Guide to raising balanced kids in a digital era.
- 48:19Speaker 5: Oh, we go deep on Snapchat and other apps you
- 48:22Speaker 5: know here, here's what you aren't learning about these apps
- 48:25Speaker 5: and what you need to know. And honestly, quick free
- 48:28Speaker 5: tip before you allow your child to have anything app,
- 48:32Speaker 5: game tech, spend some time on it yourself first and
- 48:36Speaker 5: learn the landscape.
- 48:37Speaker 1: That's a good that's a good idea. That's great advice too.
- 48:40Speaker 2: When it comes to us being parents, do you think
- 48:44Speaker 2: social media companies like Meta and some of the others
- 48:47Speaker 2: that are out there are doing enough to protect not
- 48:50Speaker 2: only our children but us when it comes to our interests.
- 48:53Speaker 5: No, no, not at all. And if you just zoom
- 48:59Speaker 5: out out to like common sense? What is their goal
- 49:03Speaker 5: as a for profit company to make money? How do
- 49:06Speaker 5: they make money by the time we spend in their app?
- 49:09Speaker 5: So what are they going to do? Try to keep
- 49:11Speaker 5: us in their app for as long as possible, clicking around, engaging.
- 49:15Speaker 5: So it's not in their interest to tell us to
- 49:18Speaker 5: take a break or have us get outside and interact
- 49:23Speaker 5: with humans in real life, right right, So they're not
- 49:27Speaker 5: going to do that. And who is the most impressionable demographic?
- 49:31Speaker 5: Who is the most easily to influence children? And the
- 49:36Speaker 5: largest social media platforms generated over eleven billion dollars in
- 49:39Speaker 5: revenue off of children just over the course of twenty
- 49:42Speaker 5: twenty three.
- 49:43Speaker 1: That says a lot right there. Now.
- 49:44Speaker 2: One of the other things, of course, during the pandemic,
- 49:46Speaker 2: we saw the schools really you know, shifted and said okay,
- 49:51Speaker 2: you're going to work from home chromebooks that we get
- 49:54Speaker 2: chromebooks that would get you know, windows, you know, PCs
- 49:57Speaker 2: to take home and that laptops and whatnot. Was there
- 50:01Speaker 2: enough filtering on those and is there still filtering going
- 50:05Speaker 2: on on those?
- 50:06Speaker 1: It's just not enough, not enough.
- 50:08Speaker 5: It really depends on the school and the school district.
- 50:13Speaker 5: Some school districts and schools are doing a wonderful job
- 50:16Speaker 5: of giving children a balanced, safe access to tech. I
- 50:21Speaker 5: would say the general majority is not, though, and part
- 50:28Speaker 5: of that is they're not educating the parents around the
- 50:31Speaker 5: fact that the school has now given this child this
- 50:34Speaker 5: really powerful tool. While the kid is on campus, there's
- 50:37Speaker 5: a set of rules and filters. But if the school
- 50:40Speaker 5: is encouraging the child to take it home to do
- 50:42Speaker 5: homework or whatever they had, I think have a care
- 50:46Speaker 5: of duty to let the parent know what's capable there.
- 50:49Speaker 5: Parents shouldn't just assume the same filters are applied. Unfortunately,
- 50:53Speaker 5: I'm part of way too many instances of children accessing pornographic, violent, etc.
- 50:59Speaker 5: Content on campus in class. And let's just think about
- 51:03Speaker 5: this for a minute. If my goal as a child
- 51:06Speaker 5: is to learn from a teacher, I'm not going to
- 51:10Speaker 5: do that when there's a screen in front of my
- 51:12Speaker 5: face that allows me to play Solitaire. I'm not taking notes.
- 51:15Speaker 5: I'm playing games, all right.
- 51:17Speaker 2: So the book is available now, It's available on Kindle
- 51:20Speaker 2: and it's available right from Amazon is one of the
- 51:23Speaker 2: places you can get that. And do you have information

- 51:35Speaker 2: type of security feature added to my devices?
- 51:39Speaker 5: Yes, it's so easy. You just go to Bark like
- 51:43Speaker 5: a dog. Barks dot us, not dot com, different website.

- 51:51Speaker 5: need to implement for your family to keep your kids

- 52:12Speaker 2: available just about everywhere ere Amazon of course, is also
- 52:16Speaker 2: available as a kindle book as well. Could provide some
- 52:19Speaker 2: very important information. Now, I want to remind you that
- 52:23Speaker 2: Monday is World Backup Day once again, a day to
- 52:27Speaker 2: just remind yourself to make a backup, whether it be
- 52:29Speaker 2: of your smartphone, of your PC, your Mac, and your
- 52:34Speaker 2: devices that are able to back up so in case
- 52:37Speaker 2: of anything happening, you don't lose that data. World Backup

- 53:21Speaker 1: exist anymore. But it looks it looks like an old
- 53:23Speaker 1: school Flash game, but you're you're literally just a fly
- 53:27Speaker 1: and you're trying to land on a platform. But you
- 53:30Speaker 1: have to click left or right, and if you hit
- 53:32Speaker 1: anything on the ment, anything, you die, Like if you
- 53:35Speaker 1: go up too high, you'll yeah, yeah, oh my gosh,

- 53:47Speaker 1: kind of a cool webisode of the week. How did
- 53:48Speaker 1: you find this in?
- 53:50Speaker 2: I was going through notes for some stuff from years
- 53:53Speaker 2: ago and I suddenly saw this and I said, is
- 53:55Speaker 2: this still active? And then I looked at oh my
- 53:58Speaker 2: god it is and about it and we never talked
- 54:01Speaker 2: about it.
- 54:01Speaker 4: So this this reminds me a lot of my childhood
- 54:05Speaker 4: in the computer class, just playing flash games.
- 54:08Speaker 1: Right yep, Bino black Sheep or oh yeah.
- 54:13Speaker 2: Well, wasn't there one that was like an Apollo capsule

- 54:21Speaker 2: kind of on the moon.
- 54:23Speaker 3: Sure, there were all sorts of flash fun flash Oh.
- 54:25Speaker 1: By the way, it's actually much easier if you use
- 54:27Speaker 1: your arrow keys. Yeah, lazyfly dot m E is the

- 54:36Speaker 3: have an I frame. You can bet it on your website.
