- 0:00First thing we do when we get to the quail this year is rush the
- 0:02roof booth to see what kind of great gift they've got to give
- 0:05us. Yeah, yeah.
- 0:07And if they've got underpants, Ryan?
- 0:11I want some roof undies. I swear to God I do.
- 0:14I would rock those things on the outside.
- 0:18This week on that car show, it's our Car Week special and we talk
- 0:22about some of the experiences we're looking forward to over
- 0:24the next week or so. It's a whole week of events
- 0:29packed into seven days. We're slightly worried because
- 0:32Ryan has only ordered 6 pairs of underpants.
- 0:36We reveal an exclusive from Ford in advance of their
- 0:40announcements at Car Week. We can officially announce on
- 0:43this channel that their new head of naming is a Gentleman Called
- 0:48Nomenclature. And then in honor of our
- 0:52sponsorship that we have with Sheffield Watches, we share some
- 0:55stories about some of the watches that mean things to us.
- 0:59All that and a whole lot more on this week's That Car Show.
- 1:02Hello, welcome to this week's That Car Show.
- 1:05You'll notice from those watching on video, we don't have
- 1:09Lindsay with us this week. She's taking a week off, getting
- 1:12ready for Car Week, obviously. Ryan and Lindsay, do you come
- 1:17off the back of two excellent shows?
- 1:19Congratulations. Thank you very much.
- 1:21I mean thank you, thank you both I think do wholly to our guests,
- 1:25Johnny Lieberman and Art Cervantes, thank you both.
- 1:29Those I think were two of our best shows at least numbers wise
- 1:32to date. So thank you for all those of
- 1:35you who are just tuning in for the first time and let's keep it
- 1:38going. So don't forget to like rate
- 1:40review and most importantly comment too moving forward.
- 1:44So thank you. Exactly.
- 1:45And and this week, so in Lindsay's absence, we're joined
- 1:48with Michael. Hey, Michael.
- 1:50Good afternoon, gentlemen. And your best overalls I see.
- 1:54Yes, comfy, highly recommended. I I don't want to start a
- 1:58fashion trend and overalls are the way to go.
- 2:01Well, you've got all the signifiers of a man who works on
- 2:03his cars for real. You've got the hood open there.
- 2:05You're in the garage. If you know, do you have grease
- 2:07on on your? Hands or anything, it's all
- 2:09fake. If I pinned you around,
- 2:11everything looks too spotless. All my tool boxes are not nicked
- 2:14up. The tools are way too shiny.
- 2:17It's all you know, It's all just a backdrop.
- 2:19Right. So for those listening to the
- 2:21podcast, Michael is wearing a set of dungarees, very fetching
- 2:24dungarees, may I say, and a white T-shirt.
- 2:27And he's on a break from working on a car.
- 2:30What Car is that behind you? That is a 92 Chevy Silverado,
- 2:35nice old pickup truck or I I don't know if it's old.
- 2:37What what constitutes as old anymore?
- 2:39I don't really know, but that doesn't that doesn't feel old to
- 2:42me, but I think according to everybody else would be old.
- 2:45No, yeah, 92 was just 15 years ago, so.
- 2:50Right, and we're all just 23. That's right, that's right.
- 2:54Let's keep our youth alive. So gang, what have we been up
- 2:57to? Ryan, no more press cars for you
- 3:00for the minute, is that right? No more press cars.
- 3:02I am spending my week prepping for car week.
- 3:05You want to make sure you get to everything.
- 3:07You want to make sure that you're you know, you're you're
- 3:09properly attired. You want to make sure that you
- 3:13know you're checking off all the boxes.
- 3:14So I'm sure once we get there will be amazing, but I at least
- 3:18stress a ton the week going into car week.
- 3:22Do you guys, are you guys just cool like that and slide right
- 3:25into it? Yeah, well, you're your
- 3:26schedule. Michael, I want you to wear
- 3:28those dungarees. I absolutely will.
- 3:31I have 3 pairs. So, so we will, we will.
- 3:33And then they're all different colors.
- 3:35I mean, this is not what people tuned in to listen about.
- 3:37But yes, right. By the way, you know, we should
- 3:40bring that up because if you see any of us at Car Week, please
- 3:42reach out. Lindsay included.
- 3:43She'll be there. You know, we got stickers.
- 3:45We would love to meet you, but I will be Dan.
- 3:47Now. I'm going to take that
- 3:48challenge. I will be wearing overalls.
- 3:51There we go. If you see Michael in overalls,
- 3:53you'll have stickers and a hug for you.
- 3:56Yeah, why not? Why not?
- 3:58This This may be super random, but do either of you folks buy
- 4:02new clothes the week before car week?
- 4:05And that includes underpants? Like I've been to Amazon and
- 4:09underpants but like is that just me?
- 4:11No, I bought, I totally bought Calvin Klein 6 pack of
- 4:14underpants. I'm good for the whole of car
- 4:16week. I wasn't saying the whole year.
- 4:18I thought you were going to sell.
- 4:19So that was the one time it was the IT was the Prime Day special
- 4:23for the year. Yeah, Have you priced Calvin
- 4:27Klein lately? Like everything else it's it's
- 4:29not cheap so 6 pairs is what I can afford.
- 4:33And you're there for seven days, is that right?
- 4:35Right. Yeah, yeah, I was about to say
- 4:37don't do the math. I think.
- 4:43One of those days I'm going to be freaking free and easy.
- 4:46Guess which one? Hey Dan.
- 4:47Dan, you and I are driving around car week together.
- 4:50Lindsay, because she's not here, has to ride with Ryan now.
- 4:52There we go. Yeah.
- 4:54Is there a phrase that's something on the lines of going
- 4:57commando at Pebble Beach? Yeah, that is the title of this
- 5:02show. So, Car Week, what are we most
- 5:06looking forward to? Any memories from last year?
- 5:08I guess it's probably a good start.
- 5:09I had the opportunity to do the the Thursday tour in a GT DB4
- 5:15GT. What is his car?
- 5:16What is Terry? 4 GT.
- 5:19But it's there's a nomenclature after it.
- 5:21Yeah, anyway it. Was very special.
- 5:23Campaign by some very famous people, yeah.
- 5:25Yeah, it's a true race car and, and honestly one of the best
- 5:27driving cars and to be in the passenger seat of that car
- 5:29through the Tour, which was, you know, honest to God, life, you
- 5:33know, bucket list, didn't even know it was on my bucket list.
- 5:36But I do encourage people, if you're up there, go up there
- 5:39Thursday morning 'cause the Tour starts at whatever, 6630.
- 5:43Everything's accessible, The people are accessible, the cars
- 5:45are accessible. They want to talk, you know,
- 5:47people want to talk. It's kind of the start of the
- 5:49event in many respects. So people are, you know, excited
- 5:52and a lot of energy and you just get to see a lot of really great
- 5:55stuff. So even if you don't participate
- 5:56in the tour, I want to drive out to one of the remote spots and
- 5:59watch it drive by. You know, if you're willing to,
- 6:02if you're an early bird. I can't, I can't recommend it
- 6:04enough because of the accessibility and just the
- 6:06friendliness of everyone there. And that's actually you go to
- 6:09Pebble Beach, just so people are aware.
- 6:11Correct. You go to the top of the hill
- 6:14right next to where a lot of the pavilions are, is, is, I don't
- 6:16even know the name of the street that well, but they line them up
- 6:19on one of the public streets there.
- 6:20Next to that is the paddock, frankly, where a lot of the
- 6:22trailers and, and, and transports are.
- 6:25So a lot of these things are just pulling, being pulled off
- 6:27the transport for the for the first time.
- 6:28That's where I personally got to experience the 20 minute startup
- 6:32of a Valkyrie that requires 3 bodies and climbing in and out
- 6:36of this thing multiple times. And, and it wasn't the owner
- 6:38doing it was Aston Martin folks. So, you know, if you get to see
- 6:41that kind of, you know, that kind of thing.
- 6:43It's nice. Ryan, any memories from last
- 6:45year if you? Had yeah so many I'm still
- 6:48getting over my hangover from the zinger area 21 party I see
- 6:52that's on the list again for this year but you know the
- 6:54Porsche party was a ton of fun that's that's when I'm not going
- 6:57to miss this year you know the quail is always great right got
- 7:01to love the I want to call it the free food and drink but.
- 7:05Those tickets ain't free. Looking forward to Pebble, of
- 7:09course. And, and, and gosh, motor Lux is
- 7:13going to be good. There's the Monterey Motorsports
- 7:16Festival, there's Concourse Italiano and of course Radwood.
- 7:19Can't miss Radwood. That's that's going to be great
- 7:22as as well. I mean, everything is, is
- 7:24awesome, right? It's just a week of like just
- 7:26overload and and I've got clean underwear going in so I'm
- 7:30feeling good. Well, at least for half of it,
- 7:32yeah. Yeah, no, it's, it's definitely
- 7:36a fun week. And the thing for me is you
- 7:38never know what's going to happen.
- 7:40So you've got your plan, but something will happen.
- 7:42Like I think last year was it, wasn't it that the house at the
- 7:45top of the quail you got invited to to see a a very nice private
- 7:48car collection, Ryan? Yeah, that, you know, and I
- 7:51think we've let the cat out of the bag.
- 7:52That was Chip Connor's place and one of the world's best car
- 7:55collections. And, you know, I'm hoping,
- 7:58hoping something like that will happen again this year.
- 8:01I mean, it's just that's it's stuff like that happens during
- 8:04car week. It's just magical, so.
- 8:05Very, very special, very special auctions are a big part of Car
- 8:09week and I know I set you folks a bit of a challenge to go and
- 8:12investigate and and come back with two cars that money no
- 8:16object you would buy. So, you know, what did you go
- 8:18for and where were those cars? I'll start my first one is 1 you
- 8:23guys, you guys maybe have not seen it was a a build called
- 8:27Dirty Martini it is. Like.
- 8:31The name, it is a kind of off green.
- 8:35I believe it's an Impala. I could be wrong there, but it's
- 8:38a custom. It's a custom like hot rod
- 8:40build, you know, very, very retro and very rest O mod, you
- 8:45know, 600 horsepower. It won all the, you know,
- 8:48awards, etcetera, and you know, good guys, you know, hot rod of
- 8:51the year, stuff like that. But I you know, it's a bit
- 8:53shocking because it won all the awards and the owners parting
- 8:54ways with it, which you know what, normally when you have a
- 8:56car like that, you know, you kind of keep it and and and show
- 9:00it around a bit, but the owner seems to be, for whatever
- 9:02reason, parting with it. But that car just is just
- 9:05stunning and and it it's driven over like I think, you know,
- 9:08thousands of miles. So it it's a real runner.
- 9:10It works. That one's probably less
- 9:12appealing to our audience. I think the one that I don't I
- 9:14would see if you either one of you had on your list.
- 9:17There is a Volkswagen Beetle limo that's up for auction and
- 9:22that thing I'd never personally seen one, but it's you know,
- 9:25it's it's original in period. It's black.
- 9:27It looks barely enough to stretch your legs out in, but I
- 9:31think that'd be the best thing to be driven around.
- 9:33I mean, you won't see another one in car week and and I think,
- 9:36I think you'd be hard pressed anywhere in the at least in this
- 9:38country to see another one. So I think no matter what it is,
- 9:41I think that'd be the thing that I buy and I'm actually going to
- 9:43watch that one really closely. I have no idea what something
- 9:46like that would go for. And that's a 4 door beetle,
- 9:48right? Is that right?
- 9:50I will insert a picture. I'm I'm it's either A3 door or a
- 9:54four door, but it's just got this, you know, much like, you
- 9:57know, limos do that. It's just got this weird fat
- 9:59center section. But it's not even that long in
- 10:01comparison to what we think of as a limo or everything that
- 10:04most of us took to prom or whatever it may be.
- 10:06It's just, it's just long enough.
- 10:09I wonder if that was that was kind of part of that era of like
- 10:11these airport cars, I think they called them, right.
- 10:14So before like the shuttle buses, you know?
- 10:16Yeah, we shuttle buses. There was like this whole sub
- 10:19industry of these of these companies that would extend
- 10:22normalish cars, right? And I'm wondering if that sort
- 10:25of came from that. I'll do some mystery and come
- 10:28back on the, you know, do some reading on the history of it.
- 10:30But there the shuttle cars you talk about, they used to do like
- 10:326 door and eight door versions of cars, which is interesting
- 10:35when you're trying to. Coronado's and.
- 10:36Yeah, exactly. So it's one thing to lengthen
- 10:38it. You just keep 4 doors.
- 10:39But when you add, you know, two or four sets of doors, I mean,
- 10:42how many things could go wrong? And yet, you know, they're,
- 10:45they're, they're amazing. They're they're so much fun.
- 10:47If you're having trouble visualizing, we could put a
- 10:49picture up on the screen too. But the movie, Catch Me If You
- 10:51Can, I think there was one, maybe a Studebaker or something
- 10:54that right factored into that movie.
- 10:55Old checkers used to do that like less than checkers taxi
- 10:59cabs and sit in their six door 8 door.
- 11:01Not to make it more, but I think the only way you can get a six
- 11:04door now is actually a funeral car.
- 11:06The ones they you know, they make for for for unfortunate
- 11:09events. But yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 11:11So those are my 2. I I want I want to rest O mod,
- 11:13but I definitely, definitely want that limousine VW.
- 11:17Yeah, I like that. And it looks like the limousine
- 11:19BMW is going to be at RM Sotheby's.
- 11:23I'm not sure. Michael, where do you know where
- 11:24the other car will be? Bear with me, I got.
- 11:28A tactic so we don't bid on it. You're not going to tell us
- 11:30where it is. No, no, no, by the way, I would,
- 11:33I would welcome, I would welcome the, I'd welcome the debate.
- 11:37The healthy competition. Wait, wait, wait.
- 11:38Michael's not the one we need to watch out for.
- 11:40It's a, it's a bow, Tory, that we need to watch out.
- 11:43For it's a 69 Beatle limousine by Troutman Barnes.
- 11:47That must be the the people who converted it.
- 11:49It's without reserve. It's it is at Sotheby's as well.
- 11:52It's lot lot 1 number 144 and they think the pre estimate is
- 11:57150 to 200 K. Wow, so if you hear the hammer
- 12:01go down and say so to the man in the dungarees, you.
- 12:04Know that's me. That's me.
- 12:09Super Mario sound that goes off like yeah.
- 12:12It's me. At that price, I'll be living in
- 12:16it, so at least I'll have the extra space.
- 12:19So I. Love it.
- 12:19I love it. I love it, I love it.
- 12:21Well, Ryan, did you go non Porsche?
- 12:24One of them. Yeah.
- 12:25So I am all of a sudden like couldn't go, couldn't break it.
- 12:29You couldn't break it. You would.
- 12:30No, no, and we've talked about this before.
- 12:32I love old cars, you know, I love the stuff that runs in the
- 12:35Colorado Grand. I would love like a 30s, you
- 12:37know, Alfa Romeo or something like that.
- 12:39But if it was actually my money, you know, what do I want in my
- 12:42garage right now? There are a couple cars that
- 12:44just, you know, I, I flagged multiples across different
- 12:47options or different auctions rather.
- 12:49One is the NSXR. All of a sudden now we've got a
- 12:53couple friends shout out Tom Moran, he's one of them who have
- 12:55really been talking these up lately.
- 12:57I've never driven an NSX and I've certainly never driven the
- 13:01Honda equivalent NSXR. They're supposed to just be
- 13:04these special, special cars. Are they four or five times the,
- 13:08you know, the value or worth four or five times the value?
- 13:10I don't know. But there are a couple at
- 13:12auction. There's a white one, I think a
- 13:13black one at Car week this year, reserve or estimated price is
- 13:18375 to 4 1/4. And that's a lot for an NSX.
- 13:23But I don't know, I just, you know, we had our Cervantes on
- 13:26from Radwood and he famously owned a silver one with Tay Wolf
- 13:30on the license plate. As he, as he described it, he
- 13:33sent me a picture. I'll post on Instagram here,
- 13:34maybe on, you know, a little later this week.
- 13:36But there's just something about those cars.
- 13:38It's the way the, you know, the windshield drops so low, the
- 13:41dashboard, the visibility, it's, it's, you know, all these things
- 13:44that we don't necessarily have in cars in 2025.
- 13:47So that's something that all of a sudden just really, really
- 13:49appeals to me. You know, 1516 inch wheels or
- 13:53whatever and all. It's just maybe they're
- 13:56seventeens, I don't know, they look tiny, but you know, the
- 13:58car, the proportions are right. And I think it would just be a
- 14:01special driving experience that said right hand drive all of
- 14:04them. So that would take some getting
- 14:05used to. The other thing that just all of
- 14:08a sudden just really appeals to me.
- 14:10Also a relatively modern car, even a more modern car, and
- 14:12that's the 991.2 Porsche Speedster.
- 14:16And these are still, you know, going for several $100,000.
- 14:20And I just think these things are the cat's meow is as they
- 14:24say, they're just very, very appealing.
- 14:26You get that GT3 motor. So many of the ones you see are,
- 14:29you know, Sandra Vunch cars or, you know, are just, you know,
- 14:33special builds, right, special colors, PTS and all that.
- 14:35And I just, that's a car that just really appeals to me right
- 14:39now. Maybe maybe I'm turning 50.
- 14:41I want a convertible. I don't know.
- 14:43But there are several for sale or several for auction at car
- 14:46week this year. I'll be watching them hoping
- 14:49they'll slowly come down overtime.
- 14:50But you know, none of those 911 speedsters do come down.
- 14:53They only go up and I think the reason I like these cars Harkins
- 14:58back to one of my first Porsche experiences growing up when I
- 15:01saw a 964 Speedster in the flesh and it just blew my mind.
- 15:04And ever since that that time, I've always wanted a 9/11
- 15:08Speedster. So those are my 2.
- 15:10What about you, Dan? Interesting.
- 15:11Well before we get to mine a couple of thoughts.
- 15:14Have you guys seen the spy shots?
- 15:17So at the moment there were some spy shots going around of a
- 15:21992GT3 Cabriolet. Yeah, but the interesting thing
- 15:28is the front wheel arch is off of an STI.
- 15:32Think it's the new speedster. I think 100%, yeah.
- 15:35This idea of a GT3 cabrio, that's just never going to
- 15:38happen, I don't think. I think it's going to be the new
- 15:40speedster. What do you think, Michael?
- 15:41There's a lot of speculation, a lot of speculation.
- 15:43Some people think it's an St. cab and, and, you know, purists
- 15:47say no, they don't want to step on what the St. is because it's
- 15:50so revered right now. I, I, I do think it's an Rs cab
- 15:53personally. You know, I think they're
- 15:57looking at the, I mean, Porsches had to raise prices, right?
- 16:00They just came out with their quarterly earnings and, and,
- 16:02and, and being tariffs and all the things that impacted them.
- 16:06I don't want to call it a money grab, but I think, you know, pop
- 16:09goes up and cut those down, price goes up.
- 16:11So that wouldn't shock me. That wouldn't shock me because I
- 16:15think when you look at a lot of those cars like the speedsters
- 16:17or or that that don't have as much usability, whereas if you
- 16:21could somehow engineer a roof on it, you know, on an Rs, you
- 16:26know, it it probably people will want them and they'll drive them
- 16:29hopefully. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:31I would They ever put a manual in that?
- 16:34No, not now. I mean, I mean, I'm speaking out
- 16:37of turn. I don't know for a fact.
- 16:38I don't believe so, just just because then everybody's going
- 16:41to say, why don't you do it for the rest of them, you know?
- 16:43Yeah, it, you know, and that makes sense.
- 16:45I mean, there's the Spider Rs. Why would there be a Speedster
- 16:47Rs or some you know, some sort of you know?
- 16:50I think it depends which route they go right?
- 16:52If they go make it an Rs cab then it definitely won't be a
- 16:56manual. If they go for an St. cab then
- 16:59it could be there. You go?
- 17:00Yeah. So we will see.
- 17:03I mean, it's just names, right? It's all going to be kind of the
- 17:05same car no matter what they call.
- 17:07It same running gear underneath right?
- 17:09I went for a couple of random picks.
- 17:10The first one is probably not a great car, but it did have a
- 17:15great owner. So Bonhams have a 1980
- 17:20Mercedes-Benz 450SL, and this car was delivered new to 1 Tom
- 17:26Petty, and he was the reason I picked up a guitar.
- 17:32If he ever heard me play, he'd probably be the reason I put
- 17:34down a guitar. But yeah, he Rockstar ownership
- 17:39has got to add something to a value, right?
- 17:42Well, until you see an Adam Durrett's car come up for
- 17:44auction. I guess that's your car, huh?
- 17:46I know of one. I know of 1.
- 17:48There's a vineyard in Northern California where there is a
- 17:51common gear that used well but still belongs to him.
- 17:54So for those not aware, Adam Duritz is the leading accounting
- 17:57crows. He he bought this car with his
- 17:59first paycheck and he's not driven it for like 20 years and
- 18:02it's sat at a vineyard in California.
- 18:05So maybe I'll go and investigate if they'll sell that car, but.
- 18:08Yeah, that's a car worth buying for the story.
- 18:10I mean, like, you're not going to have another story like that.
- 18:12Yeah, let's, let's call them. Anyway, license plate, Mr.
- 18:15Jones. Yeah, yeah, all the all the
- 18:18vibes. Tom Petty bought this car in
- 18:201980 but the valuation on this car is between 25 and 35,000.
- 18:27Does that seem so I'm I'm assuming the car is a piece of
- 18:30shit? No, it is this So I've owned a
- 18:32couple one O sevens, R1 O sevens, right?
- 18:34And they're they're amazing cars.
- 18:36One of the cars I owned was A380 SL that had this is 84 dual
- 18:42climate control. And that sounds really novel
- 18:45until you realize you got to buy 2 of everything at Mercedes
- 18:48prices because I thought it was the coolest thing ever.
- 18:50I've never seen dual climate control, you know, since, you
- 18:53know, the late night, you know, early 90s when it, you know, it
- 18:55came into my world. But anyway, you got to buy 2 of
- 18:57everything. But they, they're really good
- 18:59cars. They drive really well.
- 19:00They're by and large, they're fairly easy to maintain, but
- 19:03they made a ton of them from what, 7273 through basically
- 19:088988. So that doesn't surprise me.
- 19:11And then to your point, Dan, Phil, whatever you're, you know,
- 19:14I can hear it and feel it and you know, the night.
- 19:17But yeah, Dan has. Entered his name as Phil Collins
- 19:20on the Yeah. For the audio folks, yeah, he's
- 19:22he's still calling. Everybody, it's a different
- 19:24musician. But yeah, I think that I think
- 19:26it's a question of, you know, are you a Tom Petty fan and do
- 19:28you want to pay for some of his, you know, old boogers and X and
- 19:32Harry? Might find a pillar too.
- 19:35Yeah, maybe. Yeah.
- 19:37I think he's a great car though. By the way, I highly recommend
- 19:39anybody who wants and has, you know, has kind of spare cash and
- 19:42like they're really fun cars. They really.
- 19:44Really are, yeah. They're worth all the money.
- 19:46Yeah, I think a petty, you know, association is worth 5 grand,
- 19:49right? Just something to talk about at
- 19:51parties. What do you think?
- 19:52I mean, would you or do you think it's going to go way, way
- 19:54higher than that just because of the association?
- 19:56Well, it looks like it's sold without reserve, so OK.
- 20:00Maybe. Bring your check.
- 20:01Maybe I'll put a cheeky bit in and add to the slightly building
- 20:07car collection which we'll talk about later.
- 20:09The second car is a car. I can't believe they've already
- 20:13increased in value a lot. And that's 1991, but obviously
- 20:19it's not a 91, it's a reimagined singer DLS.
- 20:23And I think they were like just over 2 million new.
- 20:26Is that right around that sort of 224?
- 20:30A lot. I'm going to put down a lot.
- 20:32A lot. The estimate is over 3,000,000.
- 20:35It's between 2.9 and 3.2 so. There's no waiting list.
- 20:39Yeah, you don't have to wait. You jump to the start of the
- 20:41queue. 1 of 75 lightweight studies got a four liter there
- 20:47and that one is going to be through Broad Arrow, so that
- 20:50will obviously be at the Jet Center.
- 20:53So yeah. There, I'm a fan.
- 20:55I think, you know, if I had the money, I'd buy a singer.
- 20:57Just the pinnacle, isn't it? Yeah, they're beautiful.
- 20:59They're pretty great. Real quickly, I do want to I
- 21:02want to throw this out to our audience and then maybe they can
- 21:04track it down or I can right on your NSX type R, which are
- 21:08stunning. I I know I saw a video.
- 21:10I will have to dig it up. Someone I forget famous
- 21:14Youtubers taking a ride in one in Japan.
- 21:16And he couldn't they the owners told him not to roll down the
- 21:19windows because the window regulators are something like 7
- 21:23or $8000. So that if the yeah, if the
- 21:26window regulate they they were driving around Tokyo or one of
- 21:29the one of the pre pictures in a very it was, you know, kind of a
- 21:32warmer day and they couldn't they the guy does a voice over.
- 21:36It might have been Larry Chen. I'll find it.
- 21:38OK, but we can have people comment and and and talk about
- 21:41it. But I, I'm 99 Percent sure he
- 21:43said it was like a four digit window regulator, if you could
- 21:46even find 1. So he couldn't roll down the
- 21:48windows and neither did the owner as he's being, you know,
- 21:50squirted around in an NSXR. So that's been the one thing
- 21:54with that car. I was like, if you can't even
- 21:56roll down, the can't even go to McDonald's in it.
- 21:59Are they lightweight equivalents of what's in the standard NSX or
- 22:01something? Cervantes, if you're listening,
- 22:03let us know. Yeah, it's unobtainium.
- 22:06I don't know, but they made a comment that they didn't, they
- 22:08couldn't and was instructed not to roll down the window because
- 22:11if if it happened to break, granted it's a Honda, it
- 22:13probably would last quite a while.
- 22:15But if it did break, it was a it was a four digit fix.
- 22:20Wow, well I want to have. I'll research that.
- 22:23Yeah, I wonder how geeky our audience is.
- 22:25So the NSX is very famous for being developed by 1 Edson
- 22:29Senna, but there was a second racing driver who is equally a
- 22:32very famous racing driver who developed that car.
- 22:35He is always in the shadows of Senna.
- 22:38But I wonder if anyone can tell us in the comments, maybe we'll
- 22:40send them some stickers or something, because many people
- 22:44know that second. Name.
- 22:45AI can tell us, but even if you use AI, we'll have one slide.
- 22:49You just got to call them. Stickers.
- 22:51Yeah, I think. You got any answers?
- 22:52I think. So you think you know?
- 22:54Yeah. Do you know Michael?
- 22:55I do not. I do not.
- 22:57I've just seen a lot of the videos with Aaron running
- 22:59around. Car Week, Ford and in particular
- 23:03Jim Farley has said we're launching something at Car Week,
- 23:07which will be almost like the second coming of the Model T, as
- 23:11in that important to the brand, that important to the future of
- 23:15the company. Any ideas on what it is?
- 23:20Let's break it down. It's got to be a world car,
- 23:22right? It's got to be an everyman.
- 23:23Car It's got to be for everyone. It's got to be available around
- 23:26the world. Has it got to be electric?
- 23:29Well, I'd say I was going about to say because my guess, if I
- 23:32could guess anything, it's electrically because development
- 23:35cycles are so much longer now. So if they're in a place where
- 23:37they're they're, you know, ready to talk about it, they've been
- 23:40developing it 3648, sixty months ago.
- 23:44And so back then, everything looks quite a bit differently
- 23:47from a number of different angles.
- 23:49So it probably is. But you know, maybe, maybe
- 23:53they're smart and they did what Dodge did with the new Charger
- 23:55and they make it so that it can be either ICE or EV and, and
- 24:00sloppable. But yeah, my, my, my money's on
- 24:03something electric. It's something I don't know,
- 24:05affordable is relative, but something affordable.
- 24:09There's a rendering going around, right?
- 24:11Didn't you send it to me, Dan? Was that on the group text?
- 24:15Yeah, and the front end of it looks like like a rabbit from
- 24:18like 1978 or something. It's a very throwback look,
- 24:23which I didn't. Think of the West Rabbit, right?
- 24:25Yeah, what was the, you know. It's bugged, Bunny.
- 24:31Bugged Bunny. That's teeth, yeah.
- 24:36Or didn't Ford make a small pickup truck in the 70s?
- 24:39Or maybe it was a rebranded Japanese thing.
- 24:42Or something. Oh yeah, they, I mean the B2000
- 24:44and the and the was was a Mazda pickup that I forget what the
- 24:48name of the the Ford variant was.
- 24:51And so, yeah, I mean, they've always, they've had access to a
- 24:53small pickup truck for a long, long time It.
- 24:56Looked like that. I didn't hate it, so yeah.
- 24:59So 1 rumor I heard was that it's going to be a slate competitor.
- 25:03I mean, you could argue they already have a slate competitor,
- 25:06right? But with a gas engine engine.
- 25:09So it could be that Slate's days are numbered before they've even
- 25:13shipped a car. Well, poor Jeff Bezos.
- 25:16Yeah, he needs the money, doesn't he?
- 25:19I heard other rumors and I don't think this is the Model T, but I
- 25:22heard rumors of a four door Mustang.
- 25:25Is there a market for a 4 door Mustang?
- 25:28I don't think so. I don't, I don't because here's
- 25:31the here's the thing, you look at Cadillac, right?
- 25:32Cadillac has two of the best sedans out there in ACT 5,
- 25:35Blackwing CT4. And those are the only ones that
- 25:38sell. Cadillac actually had an uptick
- 25:40in sales, but it's largely from the SUV's.
- 25:44And even by the way, their EV sales are good for the Cadillac
- 25:47brand. But there are sedan sales are,
- 25:49you know, mediocre. There's just not a lot of
- 25:51everybody's moving away from sedans.
- 25:53It's either big trucks or crossovers.
- 25:55And so I don't know who's investing in.
- 25:58I mean, even look at Slate. Slate could have come up with
- 25:59any type of car and they chose a small pickup.
- 26:01So I, I, I think I'm a sedan fan, but I just, I think
- 26:05they're, those days are numbered.
- 26:07Yeah, I'm going to disagree because I just had this Genesis
- 26:11G90 for a week. There's an article coming on
- 26:13Autoblog any day about it. And so I looked at the numbers
- 26:16for Genesis because I know Genesis numbers are up across
- 26:19the board. And I thought, oh, for sure,
- 26:21sedan, sedan sales would be going down.
- 26:23It's all SU VS. And I was surprised to find out
- 26:24that that wasn't the case. And you know, I don't know, I
- 26:28think everything's cyclical. I think people are getting maybe
- 26:30burned out on big SU VS and crossovers that maybe I'm wrong,
- 26:34but I also think that, you know, they've already sold, sold the
- 26:38soul of the Mustang name, right, with like the Maki Mustang.
- 26:40So Mustang everything right, have a Mustang sport truck, have
- 26:45a Mustang, whatever. I just feel like, you know,
- 26:47that's no longer a sacred cow, right?
- 26:50Chop that thing up. Spread.
- 26:53But Dan's early comment about it being a Model T, right, Model T,
- 26:57at least from my history as I remember it, not that I passed
- 27:00this through the flying grade, was it was affordable to
- 27:02everybody. Yeah, it was purely accessible.
- 27:05And that's I guess maybe what I'm focused on is like it's got
- 27:08to be accessible and that just comes down to money or are.
- 27:10We talking about two different things, Dan.
- 27:12Is there the Model T car? And there's also a 4 door
- 27:15Mustang. It could be both, it could be
- 27:17both, right? The only thing I can think of
- 27:19with the 4 door Mustang is that would be then a direct
- 27:22competitor to. I always get the Challenger and
- 27:24the Charger mixed up, but whichever 1 is the 4 door.
- 27:27Well, they're both the now I think the charger, right, the
- 27:30two and the four door or I think are both called the charger.
- 27:33Yeah, they're in the EV and the new EV.
- 27:35Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah.
- 27:37So maybe, maybe, but we will see in a week's time.
- 27:41I think you alluded to this, Ryan, in terms of they've been a
- 27:45little bit short when it came to naming conventions.
- 27:47So instead of going for a new SUV, they called the electric
- 27:50SUV a Mustang. Yeah, they need help.
- 27:54And, and I think they finally recognized they need help.
- 27:56And is that right? You saw a a job advert for,
- 27:59well, it. Was Angel Opnik, but I'm totally
- 28:02going to apply to this job. They're looking for someone
- 28:05that's called a nomenclature strategist and Ford, let me tell
- 28:09you, I am your man. I I could come up with some
- 28:11great names, I swear. So yeah, they're looking for
- 28:15someone to name their cars. It's, it's a well paying job.
- 28:19You know, I, I guess it's your point.
- 28:20They, they need names that aren't Mustang.
- 28:24I've got the job listing here. Do you want to know some of the
- 28:26other? Please give us some details.
- 28:29Credentials get paid 6 figures to name stuff at Ford, says
- 28:32Jalabnik. Ford is hiring a world.
- 28:35I'm sorry. OK, Speaking of words, they've
- 28:37messed this up. Ford is hiring a word expert,
- 28:40they said. A world expert.
- 28:41Someone with a rare and powerful gift who can do things some
- 28:44don't even dare to dream of name stuff.
- 28:45And I think this would be a dream job.
- 28:47Well, but you bring up a good point.
- 28:49I don't know if that was an error because yeah, the word,
- 28:52the word world has a real world application, as we very well
- 28:56know. We'll do a quick go back in
- 28:57history lesson. I looked up and there's a few
- 29:00like where they've just companies have got it so wrong.
- 29:04So the first one was a master and they decided to name a car
- 29:08called the Mazda La Punta. Now I don't speak Spanish but
- 29:11from what I understand that is a illicit maybe lady of the night
- 29:17or someone who puts it about a lot.
- 29:19So the Mazda the Mazda La Punta Dodge did one better.
- 29:27So Dodge created a car called the Dodge Kahunas.
- 29:34Imagine that. Yeah, I've got a Dodge Big
- 29:36Kahunas, Cars and coffee. So that was one.
- 29:41And then the final one, which I thought was quite funny, was
- 29:46Isuzu, which I don't know if they still exist anymore, do
- 29:48they? As a truck company, yeah,
- 29:50they're still, they still make, you know, medium heavy duty
- 29:52trucks. Yeah, so.
- 29:55So this I think was supposed to be named after a sumo sumo
- 29:58wrestler. Tracks.
- 30:01The Isuzu Giga light dump. Better than a heavy dump.
- 30:09Yeah. So guys, I just.
- 30:11And so it's 6 figures to do that, right?
- 30:13You need somebody, yeah, but make sure that it's not
- 30:15offensive in another country. But I just went to ChatGPT and I
- 30:18said create some new Ford car model names for us.
- 30:22They gave me 10. There's a Ford Grizzly.
- 30:25OK, not bad. Yeah, the Ford Ridgeback, the
- 30:29Ford Out Climb. Not really working for me.
- 30:32The Talon X, the Iron Trail, the Coyote, the Vortex, the Stone
- 30:37Hawk, The Badlands are in the Thunder line.
- 30:39OK, they do need a human. Yeah, they do need a human.
- 30:42Yeah. Yeah.
- 30:43Hit me up Ford, you know, to find.
- 30:46Me listening. Long gone to the days where
- 30:49people used to watch copyright right and trade marking because
- 30:53Ford badged the Cyclone the way it's supposed to be selled with
- 30:56AC. And that's why the GMC Cyclone
- 30:59spelled with an S. So much better with an S too,
- 31:02yeah? There's well, well, we know the
- 31:06big Porsche 9O1911. You know that that's, that's,
- 31:09you know, obviously lore or, you know, legend.
- 31:12There's a lot of those that that you know, when people start
- 31:14going down the rabbit hole of why something's named X rather
- 31:17than Y or how it started out. Corvette Corvettes A Corvettes a
- 31:21fish. No, I'm sorry.
- 31:23Camaro, one of them was made-up. One of them was I think Camaro
- 31:26was made-up or Corvette was made-up.
- 31:27I'm, I'm maybe mixing those two up and like a lot of them just
- 31:29came out of thin air because the thing they wanted to was taken
- 31:31up by somebody else. Yeah, yeah, I think Corvette is
- 31:34a small boat. Yes, it's an escort boat in the
- 31:37Navy. That's what it was named after,
- 31:39which I think was a British boat.
- 31:41Yeah, it wasn't, Yeah, it wasn't a merit.
- 31:42That's, that was the weird thing because the Stingray was the,
- 31:45you know, yeah. Anyway, so they, they they've
- 31:47they've got. So they do need a body and not
- 31:50AI to, you know, make sure they don't get in hot water or they
- 31:53end up with somebody else's copyright.
- 31:55Yeah, yeah, yeah. So Ryan applied for it and then
- 31:57we'll start a campaign to support your application.
- 32:01I need all the help I can get. We'll get bills get.
- 32:04T-shirts done at car Week, hire Ryan.
- 32:06And if you, if you see us in these T-shirts with hire Ryan,
- 32:10you know, point us out to the people at Ford, right, right,
- 32:13right. So that's what else at car week.
- 32:15What else? I know the Porsche party's back
- 32:18on this this year and we'll be going to that.
- 32:20We're looking forward to seeing who we bump into there.
- 32:22Yes, yes. I mean, everyone knows who we we
- 32:25got to hang out with last year. Well, Michael didn't, but no Mr.
- 32:31Andy Pruninger himself, which was a real thrill.
- 32:34Wonderful. Yeah, yeah.
- 32:37We kind of press ganged him, didn't we?
- 32:40He was minding his own business and we all just bounded over we.
- 32:44Kind of kettled them in with large numbers.
- 32:46Yeah. Demanded a picture, yeah.
- 32:49We had Deisty, we had Colin. That's all of us.
- 32:52He wasn't going anywhere. We.
- 32:55Had lots of advice. Yes, it's a good do, if I
- 32:58recall, yeah. I think I said to him, why don't
- 33:00you do a convertible GT3 now? So if it is.
- 33:04Right front end. It was my idea A car week last
- 33:07year. Send them.
- 33:09Tell them where to send the royalty checks.
- 33:10Right, exactly. Send over a car.
- 33:12That car, yeah, I'll take one at.
- 33:16You know, Dan, to answer your question, I think just being
- 33:18there, there's just an energy in the air.
- 33:20You run into people you haven't seen for years.
- 33:22You see, you know, people you don't know but wish you did.
- 33:25I mean, it's it's just, but yet it's very accessible to your
- 33:28point. I mean, you can go up, you know,
- 33:30there, there's the roof family, right?
- 33:32You know, all of them, right? And you can go up and say hi and
- 33:35maybe grab a, you know, last year it was a cowboy, right?
- 33:39With the with the rodeo. The rodeo.
- 33:40Rodeo. So I wonder what they're going
- 33:42to have this year. So the first thing we do when we
- 33:44get to the quail this year is rush the roof booth to see what
- 33:46kind of great gift they've got to give us.
- 33:49Yeah, yeah. And if they've got underpants,
- 33:51Ryan is your man. I want some roof undies.
- 33:56I swear to God I do. I would rock those things on the
- 33:58outside. I'm.
- 34:01Wearing roof pants right now. I heard from Roof that I've had
- 34:06two stories, one that they are going to launch a new car, but
- 34:08the story I heard is they're going to be doing the delivery
- 34:10of their first rodeo to a customer and that'll be a North
- 34:14American customer, so that'll be at the quail.
- 34:16What color do you think it'll be?
- 34:17Because the the OG originally is this great orange.
- 34:21Yeah. Is it?
- 34:22It's green and orange, isn't it? Was it?
- 34:24Was it orange? It was orange and then they had
- 34:26a green I think SCR next to it right if I recall.
- 34:29That SCR was chips. Yeah, that.
- 34:33Was yeah, we were at the the button on the stories and we got
- 34:38invited to that, you know, wonderful moment that that SCR
- 34:43was sitting in the Parkway, you know, in the park court of this
- 34:45beautiful home. And we all looked at it and we
- 34:48were like, where wasn't that somewhere else?
- 34:49Like 12 hours ago? He had just taken delivery of
- 34:53it. So yeah, it was, it was kind of
- 34:55a interesting kind of kismet moment.
- 34:57But anyway, I digress. Yeah.
- 34:59Well, if we hang out with these people, we will become these
- 35:02people, right? Love it.
- 35:04No, I just want to be their friends.
- 35:05I just want to. I'll just be a hanger on.
- 35:08Yeah, the best, the best cars are other people's cars.
- 35:11If they're great cars I need to drive.
- 35:14Absolutely. Incidentally, I will have Alfa
- 35:18Romeo, Julia Quadrifolio to drive up.
- 35:21So Alfa Romeo have lent me one. So I will let you folks know
- 35:24what that car is like because it has a high reputation, doesn't
- 35:29it? They're, they're great cars and
- 35:31they're timeless and they've been out now for a while and
- 35:33they still catch my eye when I see one.
- 35:35They're just just special cars. They really are.
- 35:38Yeah, so over 500 horsepower, I think they are a Ferrari engine
- 35:44with two cylinders chopped off. Yes, I think it's based on the
- 35:47California. So I'm looking forward to my
- 35:49drive up to car week for sure. Take the long route.
- 35:52Yeah, that's what I like. And Speaking of driving,
- 35:57Michael, you've just been through a driving course.
- 35:59Is that? Right.
- 35:59Yeah, I, I finally went over to the Porsche Experience in
- 36:02Carson, which I, if you're in Southern California, it's either
- 36:05worth the trip or if you're local definitely go down for a
- 36:07number of reasons. First of which you know,
- 36:09obviously the, the smorgasbord of what you can do there is, is
- 36:14amazing. They have a, a, a fun little
- 36:17whippy little track that just kind of the border of it.
- 36:19They have kind of a pseudo drag strip that they let you do hard
- 36:22launches on. They have three different skid
- 36:25pad. Type 1 is a track that you can
- 36:28kind of get sideways on all adrift.
- 36:30There's an actual wet circle course.
- 36:33And then they have what they call, I forget what the formal
- 36:35name of it, but it, it's a wet pad that has a major bump in
- 36:38the, in the front. So it, it kicks the car sideways
- 36:41the moment you roll over at about 30 miles an hour.
- 36:44And so it's about, it's all about car control, right?
- 36:45It's about, you know, remembering where your hands and
- 36:47your feet are, less so because they're all PDKS.
- 36:50But it's just in, you know, you can run Macons, you can run
- 36:53Ticans. I chose AGT 4RS and AGT 3 Rs.
- 37:00The notable thing about the GT3 Rs was it was the only 992.2
- 37:05that they had in the fleet. I was pure luck more than
- 37:08anything. And it's a hell of a car, you
- 37:11know, you know, we were debating this is between the group about
- 37:16the difference between the two. And for me, I like a heavier
- 37:18car. I, you know, the GT3 is just
- 37:21more of my style of car, whereas the, the gentleman that I had as
- 37:24my instructor for 90 minutes, he mentioned to me that the GT4RS
- 37:28is something that even he is cognizant of.
- 37:31And if he wants to try different things, he uses that car because
- 37:34it's very abrupt at the limits. Whereas the GT3 Rs, especially
- 37:39the smaller courses there, you don't really ever get to the
- 37:41limits, even for someone who's averages myself in driving
- 37:45skills. So it's, I don't say it's safer,
- 37:47but it's, it's, it's, you know, it's more approachable, it's
- 37:50less threatening. But they're both wonderful cars.
- 37:53My favorite part of the story is because it was a brand new car
- 37:56literally with less than 400 miles on it.
- 37:58Every time you started the car, it had a warning in the screen
- 38:01that says it did a countdown and I don't know what the number is,
- 38:04but it said 700 and some odd miles and through braking
- 38:07period. Yet this gentleman had me doing
- 38:09launch control, which is basically put it and drive, put
- 38:12your foot on the brake, match the gas.
- 38:14We held it for like 5 seconds and it's bouncing off the red
- 38:17limit or around 8000 RPM. And then there's a couple of
- 38:20long straightaways on that track where you can take it to red
- 38:23line before the the transmission shifts, whether in sport or
- 38:26track mode. And they did not care about
- 38:28breaking period. So maybe breaking periods A
- 38:30myth, but I don't know. I know if I want to be the owner
- 38:33of this night, this this car after, you know, it's has life
- 38:36there, however long it lives, but it's a hell of a car.
- 38:39It's my personal favorite of the group, but I recommend anybody
- 38:42who's in SoCal if you have the time.
- 38:44And the best part about it is the I did a morning session,
- 38:47which I highly recommend because the restaurant opens at 11 AM
- 38:50and the restaurants only open for lunch.
- 38:52And it is a fabulous restaurant overlooking the track.
- 38:55Very good food, wonderful service.
- 38:57The people are very, you know, nice and accommodating.
- 38:59So it's just a great way to spend half a day in Southern
- 39:01California. Yeah, Yeah, that sounds awesome.
- 39:04That's something I've always talked about.
- 39:05Never have done well, just. Do it.
- 39:08I mean, there's, I mean money and time notwithstanding, just
- 39:11do it. It's like it's a great way to
- 39:13spend an afternoon it really. Is I have friends who aren't
- 39:15even car people who have done that and just have gone on and
- 39:18on about it. Apparently they just.
- 39:20It's a lot of fun, but the people are great.
- 39:22The accommodations are nice. Everybody's, you know,
- 39:24understanding, you know, people know you're not there to like
- 39:27set lap times or doing anything crazy.
- 39:29And so everybody, it's just fun. It's just fun around like minded
- 39:32people and it's like a warm, inviting atmosphere.
- 39:35And so you know, you're not intimidated.
- 39:37I think when you sometimes people do driving courses or go
- 39:39to events like that, they, they, they feel intimidated or feel
- 39:42like they have to show off or feel like they have to keep up
- 39:44with the Joneses or the person next to them or whatever.
- 39:47It's you, it's an instructor, and they'll take it as far as
- 39:50you want or what they feel you're capable of, or if you
- 39:52just want to have fun time like I did, let's go have a fun time.
- 39:55And I think there's nothing better.
- 39:58And the easiest way to get into those cars, knowing that those
- 40:01cars get high premiums now, so. And get stuck away.
- 40:04I mean, even the gentleman that was with me, you know, he
- 40:07lamented that most of the cars and that ilk get stuck away in a
- 40:11garage somewhere and have minimum miles where we didn't go
- 40:14so far as to talk about how much, how, how many miles they
- 40:18accumulate before they do whatever they do with them
- 40:19afterwards. But you know, all those cars are
- 40:22driven, admittedly, they just do maintenance.
- 40:26They have a service center there that at least I did not see a
- 40:29lot of those cars broken or, or damaged.
- 40:31And so, you know, it's just it's it's a wonderful thing.
- 40:34It really is. So I highly recommend it.
- 40:36Not that they're sponsoring us. They should Porsche America, you
- 40:39know, they can throw some love our way.
- 40:41But but yeah, no, definitely, definitely a great way to spend
- 40:43a few hours. Yeah, yeah, right on.
- 40:47Nice. I bought a Porsche.
- 40:48Yeah, it's. Going to I know where those cars
- 40:50go, no. I went for renting 1 and Dan's
- 40:52going to come in and be like well you know, screw you.
- 40:54I just went and bought 1. So yeah, it's not about, it's
- 40:58not about what you know, it's about who you know.
- 41:00So that's why I know that. For the levels of GT products,
- 41:03but I'd been test driving a few cars for a while, hadn't I?
- 41:06I'd done the M4 and I test drove APDK Boxster 4 litre and it was
- 41:14a couple of weeks ago, maybe a week ago.
- 41:16I was searching online as you do, when I found a four litre
- 41:20718 Boxster and it was a bit of a weird commercial adverb.
- 41:28It was up for sale at an authorized dealer.
- 41:32The car was a 2024 year model and it'd been on the forecourt
- 41:38for like 6 months and hadn't sold.
- 41:41So I want to give massive credit to John and Justin at Porsche
- 41:45Colorado Springs. You know, not all Porsche
- 41:48dealerships are equal and those guys are definitely at the top
- 41:51of the pile when it comes to service knowledge.
- 41:54And even if you don't buy a car through them, they're car people
- 41:57so willing to help you. They've.
- 41:58Got a great podcast too first. I've got a very good podcast so
- 42:03I've must have made 10 phone calls to John and Justin over
- 42:06the last two weeks and every time I had the same level of
- 42:10energy and enthusiasm from them. So very grateful.
- 42:13So I've ended up with a Guards Red 2024 four liter GTS.
- 42:18It is manual. It is 6 years of warranty on it
- 42:23so hopefully I'll be pretty good for a little while.
- 42:26Why was it so cheap or the only reason I can find right now is
- 42:29that the hood doesn't match the car in terms of traditionally
- 42:34those red cars have black hoods. Well, we should, we should, I
- 42:36should interrupt say not the hood, hood those to us
- 42:38Americans, it's but the the roof, the cover.
- 42:40The OK, yeah, yeah. Yeah, because otherwise.
- 42:44People can give up a really different visual here.
- 42:47Yeah. So yeah, so it's got a blue roof
- 42:50with a red. So I'm calling it the Superman
- 42:52spec. And yeah, I I need to get to my
- 42:561000 miles. I'm not going to treat it like a
- 42:58Porsche experience car and it's arrived.
- 43:01It's it's been detailed by some good friends and I'm looking
- 43:05forward to lots of fun driving in it.
- 43:07It's gorgeous. Congrats, Dan, it is.
- 43:09Congratulations. Yeah, it's it's just beautiful
- 43:12guards by car, but it's got like a Navy blue, like a dark blue
- 43:14top and I just think it sets it apart.
- 43:16It's and don't discount it. That's the four liter six that
- 43:20is in GT cars basically. So I think you've I think you've
- 43:26got the right car in the right place at the right time and I
- 43:29think you're going to love it. You're going to keep it forever.
- 43:31I think it'll be finally the car that you really gel with right
- 43:35and just never want to get rid of.
- 43:37But Congrats now Michael, now three of the four of us on the
- 43:41that car show team own versions of the six cylinder Cayman or
- 43:46Boxster and yet you're in front of a I'm sorry, what was it a 92
- 43:51Silverado? Yeah, the piece of shit Chevy.
- 43:54Yeah, yes, your, your oil changes cost more than this car
- 43:57and then this truck. So again, I'd argue you could
- 44:02drive it like a Porsche experience car because you got
- 44:04six years to figure for them to figure that out.
- 44:06And then, and then once it's fully fixed, you know, not that
- 44:10you do anything to it or anything would go wrong, but
- 44:11then you could worry about, you know, the next six years.
- 44:15I've already had messages from Mr. McGuinness, Dan McGuinness,
- 44:18a good friend of the show who said these are the things you
- 44:20need to do to the car, exhaust, etcetera.
- 44:23So what? Do you say?
- 44:24I'm curious because I haven't touched a damn thing on mine and
- 44:26I I still enjoy it. What what?
- 44:28What are the Dan McGuinness prescribed mods that one must do
- 44:31upon taking delivery of their new Porsche?
- 44:34Well the first one was associated with being able to
- 44:37turn off the Start Stop button, but I'm not sure because on mine
- 44:42you just stick it in sport mode and that this that solves that
- 44:46problem. OK but do you not have a sport
- 44:48mode on the GT4 or? No, there are no modes for
- 44:50anything which I which I like. And so the first thing I do when
- 44:54I get in the car is I turn on the loud exhaust.
- 44:57Yeah, I turn off the auto stop start and depending on where I
- 45:01am, sometimes I do the Rev matching.
- 45:03But interesting, it's a little different, yeah.
- 45:05Yeah, so I have modes. So when you go to sport mode, it
- 45:09doesn't do the stop start thing. So that's why I didn't know
- 45:13that. That's why he sent that to me.
- 45:14You. Got that swanky little dial
- 45:15right? Yes, yeah, give it a little
- 45:18tickle, yeah. Give it a tickle and it makes a
- 45:20lot more noise. That's another title for the
- 45:23show. That's.
- 45:25That's. A.
- 45:27Family show This is a. Family show, yeah.
- 45:30So far we've talked about it. That's not the underwear.
- 45:33That's the tag we need. We need Dan's voicing that line.
- 45:38I think we could apply that to the Dodge Kahunas as well and
- 45:45the second, the second mode getting this back into
- 45:47adulthood. The second mode is an exhaust,
- 45:50so I don't think it needs it. But you know, I'm curious to
- 45:54understand because it gives you 25 more horsepower this exhaust.
- 45:57So they say. Yeah, I have a question for you
- 46:01guys because you live in this world more than I do.
- 46:03But knowing what I know about kind of, you know, different
- 46:05makes it it's which exhaust. And so, at least in my
- 46:09experience, are there prominent ones that it's not about naming
- 46:13names and Pooh poohing other people's product versus someone
- 46:16else's, but that I have to imagine that's a quandary,
- 46:19right, Because they're not cheap.
- 46:20You don't really get to test them before you you know, it's
- 46:23not try before you buy. So how does one go about finding
- 46:28the right one? Or is it a factory 1?
- 46:30Like, you know, is there a factory sport exhaust for it,
- 46:32etcetera? Like I step me through that
- 46:34thought process because did he tell you which one to buy?
- 46:37Yeah, I got a full link to the. Is he getting an affiliate?
- 46:41Is he getting an affiliate payment you complete that late
- 46:44there? We go I had to get a Netflix
- 46:48subscription before you would share.
- 46:49With me, yeah. So they're scraping your data
- 46:54anti. Exhaust.
- 46:58So you maybe it's these are just the over axle pipes.
- 47:00So you're basically deleting what they call the OPF or the
- 47:03filters. Yeah, yeah, right.
- 47:05And so if you do that, I have opted not to do that on my car,
- 47:08but I've also driven Dan's cars over the years, which he's had
- 47:11this done. I will say it's a fuller,
- 47:14throatier sound. But if I think with my ears you
- 47:17lose a little bit of the metallic rasp that is is there,
- 47:22you know what I I don't think you can lose in hell if it gets
- 47:2525 extra horsepower to you and I know it.
- 47:28You also save I think 25 or 35 lbs too because you basically
- 47:32remove these over axle particulate filters that aren't
- 47:35even really utilized in US cars or for the European market.
- 47:40So you're basically just carrying around these shells of
- 47:42these things that don't need to be there anyway, so.
- 47:45Not not to burst a bubble. Welcome to the hell of
- 47:47California, though, because if you're if it's OK, if it's if
- 47:49it's a true cat back or, or, you know, kind of basically a
- 47:52muffler because of the way that's oriented, then that's OK.
- 47:55But if you're removing anything else, if it doesn't have a carb
- 47:57number, California air resources board, you can't get it.
- 48:00You can't they'll they'll fail you when you go in for your
- 48:03buying, you know, biannual smog. So that that's where like this
- 48:08truck behind me, I think I talked about in the last show,
- 48:10like I had to literally change the entire motor to keep this
- 48:13thing on the road. Now the Leno law, I know we've
- 48:16talked about another podcast is like it, you know, maybe
- 48:19something changes there, but that's not legal here yet.
- 48:21But that's what's tricky about California is everything is.
- 48:24So I mean, even tunes now, right Tunes now in California, if they
- 48:29plug it into their computer and you have any tune, not even a
- 48:31carb level tune, if you have any tune, they're going to fail you.
- 48:34And it's it, you know, we can argue, but not to get political,
- 48:36but like, you know, we can argue merits of that, but that's real
- 48:38tricky. That's what's so disappointing
- 48:40is you can't even do something moderately.
- 48:43You know why? Don't you both sign your cars
- 48:45over to me and we'll get Colorado plates for them?
- 48:48Nice, Right, Right. And now that we announced it
- 48:50publicly, it'll just, you know, it's not illegal or anything
- 48:53like all the Montana crackdowns going on right now in
- 48:56California. I'm just trying to get a free
- 48:59car too, that's all. But no, I hope it is.
- 49:03No, I hope it is. I hope it is.
- 49:04And congratulations on the purchase and excited.
- 49:06I, I'm excited to see you. I have to imagine that was
- 49:08someone's special order. Like you're buying someone's,
- 49:10you know, someone that that made that point.
- 49:12And I think that's wonderful. The story I heard was from the
- 49:16dealer we'll see was that the car was originally ordered in
- 49:19chalk with a blue roof, and at the last minute the guy buying
- 49:23the car pulled out of the deal. So the Porsche dealership was
- 49:27like, well, we've got this car order here, why don't we just
- 49:29change it to Guards Red, save a little bit of money, but they
- 49:33forgot to change the roof color. Just oh wow.
- 49:35May have a one of one. Could be.
- 49:38They'd never pull out. That's the lesson.
- 49:43Wait a minute, there's there's the title of the show.
- 49:49Lady's going to come back to a canceled show and be like, what
- 49:51the hell did you guys? Do that's a beautiful thing.
- 49:54We have no bosses, no one can cancel us, right?
- 49:57This is this is this is a this is a what's the safe space for
- 50:01folks like us? But Dan, Congrats, that car is.
- 50:05Awesome you've got. I can't wait to see it.
- 50:07You've got full leather, you've got contrasting stitching.
- 50:10Like I mean, it's, it's, it's a beautiful, beautiful car.
- 50:13And like I said, I think you're going to be very, very happy you
- 50:16bought it. Yeah, thank you.
- 50:17No, I love all the extras. I saved about 25,000 over the
- 50:21list on the car from the car. I mean no one does that on a
- 50:24Porsche like. That Porsche, Yeah, so.
- 50:27Not in this day and age, no. What's that?
- 50:29Not in this day and age, but I loved, I loved the six years.
- 50:32CPO, Yeah. Yeah.
- 50:34Win all around. Congrats.
- 50:35Well well bought. Well bought.
- 50:36Absolutely. I'll see it on Bring a Trailer
- 50:39next week for A50 grand over sticker.
- 50:41That's probably celebrity owned. Celebrity Celebrity owned one of
- 50:44one. Tom Petty bought it 3 weeks ago.
- 50:49From the grave. I mean, he's still DJ in that
- 50:52show on Sirius. So, you know, who knows?
- 50:54You get him in Tupac, you know? Oh.
- 50:58BB. Isn't that a show, guys?
- 51:01We're at 50 minutes. I mean, we can go on a show
- 51:03makes. Editing easier for me.
- 51:04Yeah, I don't know what time we started.
- 51:06So that was. Yeah, yeah. 51 minutes in, let's
- 51:08say we want to talk. About watches quickly or.
- 51:10Should talk about watches. Oh wow, that now we got another
- 51:13two hours to go where we want to start Ryan off with our new
- 51:18addition to the show. Yeah, yeah.
- 51:20If you've listened last couple weeks, you've heard our our AD
- 51:23for Sheffield Watches. We love Sheffield Watches and
- 51:26Jay Turkmus is a good friend of ours and so glad that Jay and
- 51:29Sheffield have joined us. Again, we've talked about this
- 51:32before, but go to any cars and coffee, you're going to see
- 51:34Sheffield Watches on multiple risks.
- 51:36But it got us thinking. Is part of this as part of our
- 51:41relationship with Sheffield? We occasionally get pitched a
- 51:43Sheffield to watch and so we recently were asked to each pick
- 51:46one out and I think we each picked out a different one or
- 51:49maybe 2 of. US No2 in one right?
- 51:51Now, OK, All right, Ryan, would you all pick out?
- 51:57Well, last time I think Lindsay copied me.
- 51:59Yeah, I'm only saying copied because I think I got the order
- 52:02in first, but I could be wrong. Which one was?
- 52:04That was that the that was one with the stripes, right?
- 52:06It was the blue, the blue Spikes car radio.
- 52:09Yeah, but according to Spike, the one to have from that
- 52:13collection, they did 3IN different colors is the green 1.
- 52:15So if you see one on eBay or you snap it up because you can't get
- 52:19them anymore. But I'm curious, Michael,
- 52:22because we all sent you our orders, but we didn't get to see
- 52:25what your order was. So what did you go for?
- 52:27Well, a little TMI, but there was only three in the allotment.
- 52:31So it is it is all of the you wonderful people that get them.
- 52:34No, yes, you're the. Negotiator.
- 52:37You're the business manager. You.
- 52:38We are, Yeah. Well, but that's yourself here.
- 52:41No, I no, no, this is great. You guys are on camera all the
- 52:44time and you guys should be sporting them and they'll be
- 52:46showing up shortly and it's going to be a wonderful thing.
- 52:49But but two of you chose one model and and one of you chose a
- 52:53different model. So it would there's there's
- 52:55variety. By that in the near future, no,
- 52:57no, I know that we're going to have watches available to win.
- 53:00So I think we'll first competition, so Michael wins it.
- 53:04Not at all, not at all. No, we do need to talk about
- 53:06that, you know, to our dear listeners and our fans and the
- 53:09people that are, you know, subscribing and again
- 53:11commenting, please comment, let us know what we should talk more
- 53:13about, less about things we could do more for you.
- 53:16There's going to be some giveaways coming up.
- 53:18We don't have all the details just yet.
- 53:20They are going to be wonderful Sheffield watches that you get
- 53:21to choose from. So bear with us, keep listening,
- 53:24keep tuning in and we will get the details to you on our
- 53:27socials and also over the air so you can participate and put a
- 53:31wonderful, wonderful, like just a good product and a great price
- 53:35point on your wrist very soon, but for free.
- 53:38Yeah, no, it's Spike. Farrison shared a video couple
- 53:42of days ago and it was Car Week two years ago and it was Jerry
- 53:46Seinfeld talking about a Sheffield watch.
- 53:50His first watch as a kid was a Sheffield watch and he now has
- 53:53one of the more modern ones. So we're obviously in good
- 53:56company. But going back to it, I think
- 53:58Lindsay went for a pink face dial, which I think is a GMT.
- 54:02I think you're wrong, Ryan. You went for the same as me, but
- 54:06what did you go? For and why it's the rally.
- 54:08It's just a watch that so it looks a lot like the the tack on
- 54:11an old 356, right. I'm actually gonna give mine to
- 54:14a friend. So I'm gonna gift mine only
- 54:16because it's a friend that's been very good to me and we just
- 54:19want to do that for him. But I it's the one I'd also pick
- 54:22for myself right now. It's just a it's just a classic
- 54:24looking watch. I mean it definitely has the
- 54:25motorsport vibe going on too. So yeah, that's the one you
- 54:28picked as well. Yeah, very, very different.
- 54:31So I just, I just liked it because it was completely
- 54:33different to anything else like I'd seen.
- 54:35And, you know, I like an individuality.
- 54:37Even though Ryan's friend will be rocking the same walk.
- 54:40Well, someone we all know so. But there's a good, there's a
- 54:43good selection of different looks and vibes, even with the
- 54:46with the SDR stuff, the Spike stuff.
- 54:49So it's like this, it's there's something for anybody.
- 54:50Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 54:53And they make wonderful gifts. So buy them and give them to
- 54:55your friends, as Ryan's doing. Yes, they.
- 54:58Do and all three of us and Lindsay are big watch people.
- 55:02Michael, any watch stories from ownership of various watches?
- 55:05Oh my God, I am up. I'm going to meet you as a.
- 55:07Serious one versus when I get to Ryan and we'll talk about Ryan's
- 55:10one which. Is nice I'm I'm I'm up to 27
- 55:14yeah I'm up to 27 of almost all you know a wide variety of makes
- 55:19and models. I think that if I'm going to
- 55:22impart anything in this is that the best watch for the deal out
- 55:26there is a Seiko 5 like because for a couple 100 bucks, much
- 55:31like a much like a Sheffield for two $300, the Sheffield or a
- 55:34Seiko 5 will do anything you needed to do for as long as you
- 55:37needed to do it. And you know, they've made Seiko
- 55:40fives for a million years. You know, Jay's reviving
- 55:43Sheffield stuff. But there's just there's a
- 55:45there's a face for anything meaning like you want a
- 55:47different look, you want a dressy look, you want a sporty
- 55:49look, you want a rugged look. You know, there's just there's,
- 55:52there's good watches at a price point, but you know, something
- 55:55that you want to have and it's dependable.
- 55:56It's a Seiko or a Sheffield. And it's like, you know.
- 56:00Seiko have just put the middle finger up to a very famous watch
- 56:03make, Swiss watch make because they've done a collaboration
- 56:06with Pepsi. So you can make.
- 56:09A Seiko 5 Pepsi edition they're. Doing a limited.
- 56:12Edition of them and we know that Pepsi in the trade is a
- 56:15different manufacturing, different type of watch, but
- 56:19they've got an official on it. Well, looks doesn't fuck around
- 56:21so this will be interesting. There's me trying to be coy and
- 56:25not name any other brands. If I had to pick one brand maybe
- 56:31not to tick off, that might be the.
- 56:33Here we go. And Ryan, you bought a fan,
- 56:36Arai, is that right? That's very behind this.
- 56:39Spot yeah, yeah oh God, you got a good memory uh back when I was
- 56:43a younger man, you know, I was into Rolexes and tutors, but you
- 56:46could also get a Rolexer tutor for about 1/3 of what you what
- 56:49you can now and and I always wanted to try a pan rye but they
- 56:52were still kind of catching on and some of you listening have
- 56:55heard this story but plenty of you have not and so one day at
- 57:00work I decided that I couldn't spend the 3500 on a real
- 57:03Panorai, but I could certainly swing 350 on a on a faux Panorai
- 57:07and I piled one up at. Panorai.
- 57:10From a place called replica house Haus so you know it's
- 57:14Europeanish and and legit and you know this was this was a lot
- 57:19you know this was 20 plus years ago.
- 57:20So, you know, you just kind of send, send it sent your mouth,
- 57:23your sent your money out, almost said send your mother out into
- 57:28the ether. You sent your money out into the
- 57:29ether and you never quite, you know, knew what was going to
- 57:32happen then and and a few weeks passed and I thought, oh man,
- 57:36I've been burned. This was, you know, but but the
- 57:38place had like 500, you know, five star reviews.
- 57:41But eventually I'm in my office in the mail person comes around.
- 57:46That is the person that would bring the mail.
- 57:50She's a woman. Go.
- 57:51Figure out. There's this big padded
- 57:58drinking. What's going on?
- 57:59I'm just getting old. Maybe drinking.
- 58:01Yeah, Little. Rockets, then.
- 58:04I was out of the art backyard and I'm aging into my Mr. Miyagi
- 58:10stage of. Life where I'm painting fences.
- 58:12No, I'm just, well, I, I did that a couple weeks ago,
- 58:14actually. I'm just out wandering, you
- 58:16know, with a, with a, with a garden shears, you know, just,
- 58:19you know, trimming things here and there, reminiscing, you
- 58:21know, mumbling to myself about the good old days.
- 58:23But. Just don't be just don't be Don
- 58:25Corleone and Godfather 2. Don't be out in the in the
- 58:28tomato patch and, you know, running around and you don't
- 58:31remember. Oh.
- 58:31God, I've never seen Godfather Two.
- 58:33Oh my God. All right, never mind.
- 58:36Don Corleone doesn't die from getting killed.
- 58:38He dies from having a heart attack chasing his grandson
- 58:40around in the garden. OK.
- 58:42All right, all right, that's a note.
- 58:43We'll watch. Killed the whole vibe of the
- 58:44podcast moving. On no, no, I'm just, I'm
- 58:47embarrassed that I haven't seen. But anyway, if I eventually get
- 58:50this padded Manila envelope in the mail and, and it's got like
- 58:5485 Chinese stamps, you know, on it and open this thing up and
- 58:58inside there is for young people used to be something called a
- 59:01desk calculator. And it was a, a calculator that
- 59:05would be on your desk that like literally like printed out on,
- 59:07on receipt paper, right? You know, and you could add up
- 59:10your, your maths, whatever. And I thought, oh man, I, I
- 59:14totally got, you know, got burned and I was so disappointed
- 59:16because 350 bucks was a lot of money for me.
- 59:19It still is, right. And you know, I picked up this
- 59:22thing. I'm like, well, hey, I got a
- 59:23desk calculator. Open it up.
- 59:25And the desk calculator itself seemed a little light and there
- 59:28seemed to be something inside. So it was a, it was a shell of a
- 59:32calculator, much like, you know, when you go to IKEA and you have
- 59:36like those, those shells of computers or televisions that
- 59:39they, they have on the furniture.
- 59:41And sure enough, this fake panorai watch was inside the
- 59:44desk calculator. So I had to borrow a
- 59:46screwdriver, open it up and there's this watching.
- 59:48Wouldn't you know what this thing looked like?
- 59:50This is like a 99 point watch. This looked just like a panorai.
- 59:53That's the beautiful thing about a fake Panorai real panarizer,
- 59:57pretty basic. And they just utilize a, a, a, a
- 1:00:00pocket watch movement and everything is very sort of rough
- 1:00:03and, and, you know, there and this thing had a, a display, you
- 1:00:07know, back and, you know, and you know, I was wearing real
- 1:00:11Rolexes at the time. So it's a little embarrassed to,
- 1:00:13to, you know, wear this thing. But I thought this thing looks,
- 1:00:15this thing looks pretty authentic, right?
- 1:00:18And so I wore it to work for about a week.
- 1:00:20I got a couple compliments. And one day we were in an all
- 1:00:23office meeting and it was a hot day.
- 1:00:25We worked in an old 1930s Art Deco building, was an ad agency,
- 1:00:28and we're all sweating a little bit.
- 1:00:29Hot day. This thing's on my wrist and my
- 1:00:33boss, he said, Ryan, you got a new watch.
- 1:00:37Why don't you pass it around so everyone can see it?
- 1:00:39OK, So I thought, oh, man, OK. But I was really confident in
- 1:00:43this thing, right? I thought this thing would look
- 1:00:44legit. And certainly no one in this
- 1:00:46room knew more about watches than I did, Right?
- 1:00:48Well, what I. Didn't realize is.
- 1:00:50This thing had a display back and if you look at a panorai, I
- 1:00:53think there's like a panorai base or something similar.
- 1:00:56The word panorai was spelled spelled out on the movement and
- 1:00:59sort of gold applied letters. On the rotor right on the.
- 1:01:02Yeah, yeah, exactly. And it looked really cool and
- 1:01:05stuff. Well, it was such a hot humid
- 1:01:06day and this thing was on my wrist and maybe I was stressed.
- 1:01:09Whatever put this. Thing up.
- 1:01:11And you know, I look at the back and all the little letters that
- 1:01:15spelled out panorai had had come loose, had come, you know, the
- 1:01:20glue. And.
- 1:01:21It was like a like a snow globe. And now here's my boss, like the
- 1:01:26guy signs my checks asking for, you know, to check out this
- 1:01:29watch. And and it was just one of those
- 1:01:32moments where I had to think quick and I just decided to get
- 1:01:34up and walk over to show the watch because I just, you know,
- 1:01:39all my credibility, everything else right out the window.
- 1:01:42Of course, if I was really on my toes, I probably could have said
- 1:01:45something like, well, if you paid me more, I wouldn't.
- 1:01:46Have to buy well, I was about to say the same thing.
- 1:01:48I think this is a missed opportunity because if you
- 1:01:49passed it around and say if someone says why is this melting
- 1:01:52and say because it's not real because I don't get I've gotten
- 1:01:55denied for my last three raises. You know what I mean?
- 1:01:57You could have really made a guilt trip in front of
- 1:02:00everybody. So you.
- 1:02:01Know and and Davis Harrison Dion in Chicago.
- 1:02:04That's exactly the truth. But I.
- 1:02:07What do you do? Watch.
- 1:02:08It I threw it in the trash, come on.
- 1:02:13I bet that thing would still run.
- 1:02:15I bet it's still. Well, again, kind of you know,
- 1:02:19this was this is a rare one off you know where you know it was a
- 1:02:22glitch right in the Panera factory and the glue just wasn't
- 1:02:25good that day. I mean, it's worth twice, you
- 1:02:26know, normal Panera. But anyway, so.
- 1:02:29I've just got this vision now of the Italian Navy wearing fake
- 1:02:32Panera and all the gold coming up on this season.
- 1:02:36You know, you never know. You never know anymore, right?
- 1:02:39So anyway, I think those days of the the bad fakes are are done
- 1:02:43and I think you've got to be so careful anymore because the
- 1:02:45fakes have gotten so good. They've gotten really, if you
- 1:02:48want a rabbit hole to go down is the the jeweler watch folks that
- 1:02:53are professionals and they put the side by sides down of, you
- 1:02:56know, high end brands and and and and the real things are the
- 1:02:59fakes and they're they're really good.
- 1:03:01But to that end, though, to your point, the fakes can go for 4
- 1:03:04digits. I know, you know, so, so you
- 1:03:08know, buying second hand, which I'm an advocate of and fan of
- 1:03:11you. You always had to do your
- 1:03:13homework, of course, and caveat M tour and all that.
- 1:03:15But even the fakes now are there's a Wall Street Journal
- 1:03:19article not too long ago. Not that has anything to do with
- 1:03:21anything, but they did a whole article about the subculture
- 1:03:25that are buying those 3 digit, 4 digit fakes handbags, you know,
- 1:03:29watching etcetera because they're almost
- 1:03:31indistinguishable. And some people go to the web,
- 1:03:35the web to like tout the fact that they don't.
- 1:03:37They didn't pay, you know, all the money for a Birkin or for a
- 1:03:40Daytona or whatever. So I can't do.
- 1:03:43It's cultural. I can't.
- 1:03:44I can't do. I mean, would you drive a
- 1:03:45$60,000 GT 3RS that was indistinguishable from a real
- 1:03:49GT3RS? I don't know, man.
- 1:03:52I I don't know if anybody's making those.
- 1:03:53I don't know if anybody's making those.
- 1:03:54But how? But how many?
- 1:03:55How? Many guys have got an idea.
- 1:03:57How many fake Daytonas were built back in the day?
- 1:03:59Convertibles back in the body of Miami Boy so many cloned
- 1:04:03Daytonas? Cloned Cloned Testerosus or
- 1:04:07American. Cars 2 super bees and other
- 1:04:10stuff, right? Oh wow, those are different.
- 1:04:12Those drive like most of that junk when you're taking a
- 1:04:16Sierra, you know? You're taking.
- 1:04:17A Sierra mintage in Sierra and putting a you know, I don't
- 1:04:22know, I mean, but what is a kit car these days, right?
- 1:04:25I mean, I have had the the pleasure of driving in a super
- 1:04:29performance or a, you know, some of these cars that are, you
- 1:04:34know, are they replicas or really not?
- 1:04:35I mean, there's a debate there with regards to value, but does
- 1:04:39the driving experience of a high end superformance car really
- 1:04:43take away from the people that own a true Cobra?
- 1:04:46I mean, there's an argument to me there, unless it's obviously
- 1:04:49a real bad thing. So I don't know, it's a, it's an
- 1:04:51interesting, maybe it's a conversation for future podcast
- 1:04:55of like, if the, if the experience is 95% for 50% the
- 1:04:59money, who, who are you now? And now in a, in an honesty
- 1:05:04transparency thing, are you selling it on as a replica or
- 1:05:06are you selling it on as a point about people that replicate
- 1:05:09Daytonas and super birds and all that?
- 1:05:11That's obviously deceitful. But if you're getting 90% of the
- 1:05:14driving experience for 50% of the money, I, I, I don't know.
- 1:05:16I don't know. Would you buy roof underwear?
- 1:05:20No, no, no, I think I could. I'd like to think I could, at
- 1:05:23least. The only way in Ford Roof is the
- 1:05:26underwear. So I'd like to think I could
- 1:05:27afford the underwear. Right.
- 1:05:30Well, Roof, if you're listening, you got 3 customers right here.
- 1:05:34More importantly, if you do have it, Ryan needs it by Thursday.
- 1:05:41See you getting pulled off. Hey, babe, you.
- 1:05:45You. You could've just said I bought
- 1:05:47new clothes. You brought up some 6 packs.
- 1:05:50We didn't ask for that detail. So we're going to, we're going
- 1:05:53to bring that up all. Week for a reason.
- 1:05:57Well, not boy. Not not to pile on, but if you
- 1:05:59bought a fake Panarai, did you buy fake?
- 1:06:02Underwear. No, that's the only to this day.
- 1:06:05That's the only fake thing I've ever bought.
- 1:06:06And I learned my lesson. I cheated only myself.
- 1:06:09Lesson learned. But I I learned a lot today.
- 1:06:11I think you sold yourself short. I'd love to see that.
- 1:06:13I bet that that thing probably still works.
- 1:06:15Maybe not well, but it probably still works.
- 1:06:16Someone somewhere pulled a fake pan rye out of a wastebasket.
- 1:06:20Or it was. The real deal, yeah.
- 1:06:23Well, actually. What's your what's your watch
- 1:06:26story? You got to.
- 1:06:26You got to share your. Oh yeah, you got it.
- 1:06:28Yeah. What do you?
- 1:06:29It's not a Sheffield. Pokes.
- 1:06:32I'm going to poke, but what's? The poke tell us what a.
- 1:06:34Poke. Yeah, I'm not familiar with
- 1:06:35poke. Tell me about pokes.
- 1:06:36I mean, they put on a good show back in the day, the Pokes, but.
- 1:06:39Yeah, fairy tale of New York and all that's yes.
- 1:06:43So back in the 60s and early 70s when the moon missions were
- 1:06:50taking place and flights to space, etcetera.
- 1:06:52We all know that Omega signed a partnership with NASA and the
- 1:06:58moon watch became the speed master, became the official
- 1:07:02watch of astronauts from the US, right?
- 1:07:05Well, there was a gentleman called Colonel Pogue who took
- 1:07:11his official mean watch to space, but also had been
- 1:07:16training with a Seiko. So an automatic Seiko, Seiko
- 1:07:20Seiko, an automatic Seiko. And he had, when he took his
- 1:07:26flight to the space, he had this watch in his sock.
- 1:07:30He hit it. So he had been training with
- 1:07:33this Seiko, had to wear the official watch of NASA, went up
- 1:07:38to the up to space and his official watch, his Omega broke.
- 1:07:43So he had to then rely on his Seiko.
- 1:07:45And these aren't expensive watches.
- 1:07:48Bruce Lee had one of a different kind, but in a different face.
- 1:07:53But I was talking to a friend of mine a few years ago and he was
- 1:07:55like, well, if you're going to do a watch collection and you,
- 1:07:57you know, you should have a poke.
- 1:07:59So that got me going. Well, what's a poke?
- 1:08:01And my dad said, I've got my old watch in the cupboard and I'm
- 1:08:05like, what is it? And he's like, oh, it's a Seiko.
- 1:08:07So it turned out to be a poke. And it's, it's a $500 watch, but
- 1:08:14it was broken. So I went and sent it off and
- 1:08:17probably paid about $800.00. So more than the watch was worth
- 1:08:20to get it meticulously repaired. And now I've got it and it's a
- 1:08:24sentimental timepiece and I've got a poke.
- 1:08:28And an even better. Story.
- 1:08:30Yeah, what else are you hiding away?
- 1:08:33No, that's amazing. That's a great story and an even
- 1:08:36more magnificent like, you know, setup like that's that's
- 1:08:39awesome. Congrats, I'm now going to I'm
- 1:08:41going to look this up. I I love the story.
- 1:08:43I mean, your your personal story is amazing and even adds to it.
- 1:08:46And I I want to look this watch up because now I kind of want to
- 1:08:48acquire one because it kind of it it fills out, you know, trio
- 1:08:52that I have because I have a speedmaster.
- 1:08:54I did, I did buy AI bought a Snoopy, the new Snoopy Swatch
- 1:09:01because they're just kind of fun.
- 1:09:02They just came out yesterday with the with the mood phase.
- 1:09:04And so it hasn't arrived yet. But I, I love I I I as a space
- 1:09:09fan, I think that's that's a great story.
- 1:09:11That's a wonderful story. Thank you for sharing.
- 1:09:12Yeah. Yeah, cool.
- 1:09:14Watches, Cool watches. Yeah, it's a definitely 1 you
- 1:09:18should have in your collection if you think about some sort of
- 1:09:19theme around space. And I think Bullover is another
- 1:09:23one. So that was the Russian
- 1:09:24equivalent, I think, when it came to space.
- 1:09:27Really. Okay, yeah, there's a whole
- 1:09:30rabbit hole you can go down in terms of watches that have been
- 1:09:33to space. Right, I'm surprised.
- 1:09:35Have you done a Porsche design? And I don't like an old IWC I.
- 1:09:38Never have. I never have.
- 1:09:40Yeah, I do like IWC and I do like some of the old Porsche
- 1:09:44design stuff, but I'm going to fix the income.
- 1:09:48Can I do so much? Fair enough.
- 1:09:50Well if you if you find one, IWC will still service them.
- 1:09:53Don't take it to your local place.
- 1:09:55Yeah because the courts move the there are a couple that are
- 1:09:59automatic, but most of them are courts.
- 1:10:01And if it doesn't, If it doesn't work, IWC, you can actually send
- 1:10:04it in and they will actually fix it from the factory because the
- 1:10:07local people don't have access to the parts.

- 1:10:11whatever, when there's continuation and you can
- 1:10:13actually enjoy the thing. Dan, I've made that mistake 1000
- 1:10:16times, spending more on the, on the servicing or the

- 1:10:38where your watches and and and just go out and enjoy them.
- 1:10:41They're doing you no good. Things die of boredom, People,
- 1:10:44items, cars, they die of boredom.

- 1:10:48Go wear them, Go wear them. I think that is probably a show.
- 1:10:52So before we go, if there are any porch pirates listening in
- 1:10:56the Denver area, please give Ryan a break because he needs
