Transcript
- 0:00The battle against addiction is being fought on two fronts:
- 0:04on our streets and in our policy halls. According to
- 0:08the 2026 National Drug Control Strategy recently released by the
- 0:12White House, the federal government is launching a multi-layered approach
- 0:16that balances aggressive law enforcement with an unprecedented expansion of
- 0:20recovery support services.
- 0:21For the Recovered Life community, the most significant part of
- 0:25this strategy is the "Recovery-Ready" initiative. This plan sets specific,
- 0:29measurable targets to increase the number of accredited recovery housing
- 0:33units and peer support specialists across the country. It acknowledges
- 0:37that the journey doesn't end when treatment is over; sustainable
- 0:41sobriety requires a foundation of stable housing and a community
- 0:45that understands the struggle.
- 0:46On the enforcement side, the 2026 strategy is leveraging new
- 0:50technology to disrupt the global supply chain of synthetic opioids
- 0:54like fentanyl. By using advanced data analytics and international partnerships,
- 0:58the goal is to stop these substances before they ever
- 1:02reach our borders. But the White House is also clear
- 1:06that we cannot "arrest our way" out of this crisis.
- 1:10A major pillar of the strategy is harm reduction—ensuring that
- 1:14life-saving tools like Naloxone are as common and accessible as
- 1:18fire extinguishers in every public space.
- 1:21The strategy also emphasizes the "Whole-of-Government" approach, which means agencies
- 1:25ranging from Housing to Labor are working together to remove
- 1:29the barriers that people in recovery often face, such as
- 1:33employment discrimination and lack of transportation.
- 1:35This roadmap for 2026 provides a sense of hope that
- 1:39the infrastructure of recovery is finally catching up to the
- 1:43scale of the epidemic. It recognizes that every life saved
- 1:47is a victory and that our collective health depends on
- 1:51a system that prioritizes healing over punishment. You can read
