Transcript
- 0:02[SPEAKER_01]: Hi, folks.
- 0:03[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to the episode of Film Study.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_01]: This is Kendrick Music.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_01]: We're back for part two over discussion of Friday morning GM this week and we're going to talk about the wide receiver and tight end depth chart and as always, I'm joined by co-host Vasorika Osbas.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_01]: How you doing?
- 0:17[SPEAKER_00]: I can't always a pleasure to join you, my friend, and I'm looking forward to talking about these two position groups.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: One appears to be a significant strength in the other perhaps a significant weakness.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I got to say you really were on the weakness at tight end more than I was.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_01]: I thought the Ravens would be able to work with some rookie tight ends.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_01]: And there's been some problems as we'll talk about in this.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_01]: And we'll talk about what the depth chart looks like in each space.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_01]: I think, uh,
- 0:46[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we'll be able to very quickly get through this, frankly, and then we do have a very deep mail bag of questions.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_01]: I appreciate all of you for your questions by the way, and I'll toss this out there right now.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_01]: Use film study, mailbag at gmail.com.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_01]: Please for your questions now, Marina is watching that every day, and she brings in more stuff to me.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: There's been good show ideas that are coming there, that's also the place for that.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_01]: So, let's jump right into the wider Sever Depth chart right now, and I guess,
- 1:12[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the Ravens came into this after the draft and drafted two guys with what looked to be a six-man set of wider sewers that was going to be very hard to craft.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, this was the sixth that I identified immediately following the draft.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_00]: They lost Hopkins and Wallace replaced them with Jacobi Lane and Eli Sarat.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_00]: There was some question whether La Jante Wester would be favored by the new staff, but by the reports I've seen.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_00]: He'd thus seem to be acclimating well to become Boyo's offense, and he probably has a role for a Gadget type guy like that.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_00]: And obviously, Rashad Bademan has hoping to rebound, say flowers expect to lead the team in targets, yardage, and catches, et cetera, especially after the newly minted contract.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_00]: And Tesla Walker was also apparently flashed some good signs in training camp, so I think that top six is almost ironclad.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think it's safe when we're going to talk about them maybe one at a time.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_01]: But I was as an interesting one because I've heard Vinnie Sorato came out and said that virus was going to get 150 targets this year.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: First of all, all of you folks, and including I don't want to bash on 1057, we have a great relationship, and I don't want to bash even on the local guys.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_01]: But all of you people coming out with fan numbers, whenever you're ready to put up some
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm ready to go and and if I don't think Vinny I think what Vinny really means is I could see him getting 150 targets if he stays healthy if the Ravens pass the ball ton if the Ravens There is bad as I think they're going to be kind of I think he's that has so many conditions to it That he could but 150 targets for Zay seems
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: through high and I think as Raven's fans we got a hope it's not that high because lower generally means that they're going to be running the ball more and total which usually is indication of positive games.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I was going to say.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's really depends on the defense.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_00]: If the defense has on trying to solve the game away because they have perspective with two, three touchdown lead and the second half there's no way it gets on or 50.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_00]: If they're chasing points every game which I don't envision not with the mentor defense and
- 3:31[SPEAKER_00]: then there's then, you know, I'd be surprised if they're passing them much.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think they could pass maybe a higher clip in the first half when aggregate just because they were so run heavy that when it was run heavy it's team and the lead the last few years on our hardball to let me want to but I think if the defense holes up there and the bargain it'll probably be pretty close to the same net results.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, by the way, Z-flowers, 150 targets, 153 would be nine per game.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_01]: And that assumes he's healthy for every single game.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_01]: Now, what I wanted to look up was how many times it is entire career that Z-flowers has actually had nine targets in a game.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't think it's that many.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_01]: I bet it's under hand.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_01]: But it's under 10 might be might be 12, but even selling he's played what 50 games or 45 games so far somewhere in that range And I don't he hasn't had a lot of nine target games so far today.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think I'd probably say four or five per season Just try to remember I you know slide through the SIS screen that over the years
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: But you know, flowers is tremendous player.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_00]: He's very hard to cover the one area for improvement that I'd like to see this coming season.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: This is George after the catch and taking some of these, some of these bowls to the house.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's the way he increases his red zone and touchdown production.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_00]: instead of so much cut back and try to jook three guys, just go with it, take it.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think his size means he's never going to be a tremendous resin threat to Vantay Adams isn't the biggest guy in the world.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_00]: He is bigger than flowers, but he knows the dance steps of the routes in the red zone, and that's why he has two and three touch song games consistently.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_01]: Right, and flowers, I think it's another set of things entirely.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, I'm not muted, so, okay.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_01]: I hope I've come in through normally here and let's keep going here.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, flowers is a guy who when they're in the red zone, he's going to work with lateral movement from Lamar to get open and has shown that ability.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_01]: I think the need for to run fade routes and the value of lean in the red zone, for example, is probably overstated because it's not going to be fade routes.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_01]: There will be times when Lamar wants to throw a tall, tall, tall,
- 6:02[SPEAKER_01]: between the, between the uprights or, you know, somewhere between the near the hash marks, we'll say, to get somebody open.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying that never happens, but most of the time he looks for a direct strike.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I guess we'll talk to a lane next.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_00]: I think lane is going to take serve a lot of the Isaiah likely.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: Take a lot of those targets.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_00]: We're scramble drill and it's a jump ball.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not necessarily a fade where the fruits are
- 6:29[SPEAKER_00]: to make a play and he's going to go up and get the ball as I say like we did, the reports out of camp are tremendous delaying the catch radius, the hands, he made a one-handed grad down the sideline, I think his stock is up, I wouldn't, I wish to know where you see him sort of sliding on the pecking order, do you think he's above Walker?
- 6:49[SPEAKER_01]: We have a question coming up in there.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_01]: I would say based on what I've seen in camp.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_01]: I've been there every day.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's there's He is doing a ton in terms of highlight catches and he probably can do more still in terms of being open versus zone defenses after play action sort of thing.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know that they've tested that as much.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_01]: Unfortunately, Lamar under threw him today on a deep ball, then the left, down the right sideline, and Wiggins got back in the play and knocked it down.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: That's been the big problem so far with Lamar.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_01]: This camp is a lot of under-throwing balls.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_01]: The guys have been most affected by that.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_01]: It's been a war.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_01]: He's been behind the defense a lot, and Lamar's under throne him, Huntley might have under throne him as well.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_01]: And the one beautiful ball that Huntley through this camp, he threw a way out there, and I think he must have thought he way out, throwing tethes, and tethes ran under the ball, caught it, and it extended, arms extended, made the play, and
- 7:50[SPEAKER_01]: It tases a receiver's wide receiver in terms of letting him go get the football much more so even than Mark East Brown who was fast You know, he's he's a guy.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_01]: I could certainly get behind that defense and they can pay I don't walker
- 8:06[SPEAKER_01]: Early on, he's getting a lot of play with Lamar Jackson.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I'd say Jacobi Lane is getting more play.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_01]: And I think I would have to say, he's the likely one to get more targets in Walker now.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_01]: He had it at 40, 32, and 24 for those three guys.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_01]: I would adjust it now and say that I'd put Lane at about 45.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_01]: Walker at 30 and Sarat at about 15.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think that Sarat is, it just doesn't seem to get in a playing time with the quarterbacks of this.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: Before we move on to Sarat, I was very high on Walker coming into this season.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_00]: I liked what I've sold for the first two years.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, it's not the first time the martyrs had a week of, you know,
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: in consistent accuracy in training camp, and then he's going on to have an empty season.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm not concerned by that, but it's good to see Walker getting open.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: And I think if you look at the top four, including Baitman, Baitman's a technician, flowers is your number one.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_00]: They have Walker with speed and lame with the size.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_00]: It's a nice quartet there.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_00]: I've heard, now I'm moving on to Sarat.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_00]: I've heard that I think it was Jonas said that he suffered an injury at the end of many camp, and he just doesn't look like he's full speed yet.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_00]: He looks a little bit sort of you know just doesn't have the athleticism and he's still kind of working through some sort of lower leg injury
- 9:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's not apparent to me.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_01]: Now, Jonas is very good.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think there's a good chance he's got inside or information on something and he's projecting that into what he's seeing potentially.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_01]: But I think there's probably something there if Jonas is willing to say it is what I'm saying.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: He was in a best when the best is needed segment where he was in a one-on-one matchup with rivers.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_01]: couple practices ago.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_01]: I forget if it was the rain practice the one before, I think there was the one before.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_01]: Deep ball down the right sideline, he put his hands up very late to make the catch.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_01]: Rivers in his hip pocket the whole way in.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: And Seret is not as fast as rivers, so you expect that kind of thing to happen.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_01]: But he put he out foxed him by putting his hands up really late and catching the football.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_01]: I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's not clear to me, I mean, so my point is that to go make that catch it all the way to run about 40 yards.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_01]: And so it's a difficult thing for him to do with if there was seriously some problem with this with this lower leg.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_01]: I just, I have not seen it, but I, you know, if Jonas says that I think is a good chance, it's true.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, well, just before we move on to Wester, the more time goes on, I take them where 11 personnel is likely considering maybe the struggles of the tight ends.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_00]: And I think with Lane and Sarat, you have an option to put a guy with a bigger body, you could probably do a little bit, as far as helping up locking, but also be a pass-catch-in target.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_01]: And by the way, we have not seen a lot of blocking from these tight ends.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_01]: So I would say that I feel pretty good about lane and particular lane is a lousy college blocking by the way, but I think I feel pretty good about him getting to level two or three.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_01]: dealing with a man who's not a lot bigger than him.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_01]: In particular he's dealing with a safety or corner I think he can he can learn the dance steps to pivot through and maintain his feet You know when some of these Henry runs and turns tens of the 30s, but he's He's got to want to do it
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: and he'll probably want to do it more if he thinks it will really earn him more reps.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_01]: The problem with the player like Wallace was, it did earn him a lot more reps than they were run blind.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_01]: They weren't they weren't tartars.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: So let's move on to Western.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: I know you have your pretty, you look what you've seen so far.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's been a much bigger part of the offense in this preseason in this camp.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_01]: And he got a chance actually with flowers out for his contract signing.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_01]: He got a chance to play with the ones in the rain and did pretty well.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_01]: He's at other times where he's looked good with Huntley.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_01]: But this was actually getting some time in with Jackson.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's a, there's a lot of reason to believe he could do some things.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think his roster spots in any jeopardy.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_01]: I know people have been talking about it.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_01]: Well, just go out and get stuff on digs and replace Western with him and some other guys move down.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_01]: But that's fine.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_01]: It would have been a huge mistake if it how old this team is to go and get another old receiver on top of what they have.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_01]: It's great though.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_01]: This group is going to be together for freaking ever.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_01]: Wester's got three years.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_01]: So you're out.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_01]: It's got four lanes.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_01]: It's got four.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_01]: Walker's got two.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_01]: He's got the fewest.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_01]: Bateman, I think, has two four sales through 29, right?
- 12:45[SPEAKER_00]: I don't remember.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_00]: I would say, and followers has six, it's a big year for Bateman, it's a big year for Bateman to solidify his future.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_00]: He needs a unique rebound season.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_01]: But he does, and I think he could, he's looked really good in camp, he's made a lot of the catches, he's looked elusive, and
- 13:05[SPEAKER_01]: wiggly, I'll say the team needs to use him in that way to do the things he does well.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think one question we're going to have a question about lane later.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'll let it just let just ride until then and we could talk about it and some of the other things.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_01]: But we have some other guys who have joined the team more who I don't think is any kind of series candidate to make the roster.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_01]: He might be an injury back up and the Ravens are doing good job.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, at a few different position groups try to find who's the next guy in case we have an
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I think more is probably on the roster, when the 90 man roster should be going to the practice squad to be a special team to call up when you're facing the team that you want a special team to call up for.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_01]: Gillaroli?
- 13:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Gillaroli.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_00]: I know some people are
- 13:52[SPEAKER_00]: I saw somebody right up to the draft that was extremely high on Bill Ray and thought that it was, it was, it was, now practice for me to not have them on my 53 projection.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm not sure where that was coming from, but how's he looks in camp?
- 14:06[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I think Gillery was the 25, right?
- 14:10[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he's a rookie, you're checking my roster right now.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_00]: No, he's not a rookie, it's just a second year.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_00]: But I put out a little bit of a...
- 14:15[SPEAKER_01]: He's a one, which means he's, yeah.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_01]: So he's on a practical squad last year.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_01]: He's got some real ability to catch the football, I'd say, but I wouldn't say he's any kind of a talent you can't live without.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_01]: They haven't moved him up or anything and you know the Ravens have had some veteran wider seizures.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_01]: They carry it around.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_01]: Gillery might be a guy and you know Gillery and more might make sense on the practice squad together.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_01]: Gillery that he doesn't cost them anything on the practice squad in terms of their veterans' slides.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_01]: So that's good.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_00]: As Wade reached veteran status yet, I guess not, because he hasn't put on the record on the 53.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_00]: Now, yeah, he seems to be a player that thrives before the patch go on, deeply.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_00]: And then once the patch come on, whatever it is, it kind of defeats.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_01]: He had the great preseason two years ago, I want to say, right?
- 15:09[SPEAKER_01]: This is his third year.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_01]: I believe on the Ravens.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_01]: you know, roster adjacent position that he has, and you know, he's, he's very much a guy that could bring up if Western got hurt to return pawns.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, it's just, he's a, he's a valuable top-up practice squad player, and that's probably where you say, but there shouldn't be anybody in this wider seaver group.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_01]: this even remotely threatening to take one of the big sixes spot, the only reason it would happen is because of injury and you know they're just you know it's kind of a a breath of fresh air not that a camp darling wide receiver who is a question of mid does he make the roster not not now lane is a camp dot darling wide receiver at the different way.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_01]: But it's not because hey, he's going to make the roster he's not kind of.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean in case of injury, knock on wood and the Ravens have been one of the healthier teams so far, knock them again for that.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_00]: It depends where on the depth chart the injury occurs if it's
- 16:08[SPEAKER_00]: fourth fifth six guy you maybe are okay see and take in the best of the what brought home Cornelius Johnson and Smith that got from Maryland right and then if you have one of your hiring knives maybe you do circle back to to uh what's his name or how's the name he's keeping right now the odds you have can the odds you have can the odds you have that's
- 16:31[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, he's coaching college balls somewhere now.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's not that you couldn't, you know, there was remember the one point
- 16:41[SPEAKER_01]: Primetime was in the broadcast move and he was actually getting asked questions on air about hey, are you to consider going back to the, I think it was the readers at the time and and he said, you know, I've considered it a lot.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_01]: It's just, it's incredible that a visit guy in that position could be in a position to say, yeah, you know, yeah, I've decided not to go back to what
- 17:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think it might have been.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think so.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_01]: I think he might have been about 38 at this point.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_00]: He played for the Ravens at 38, right?
- 17:14[SPEAKER_00]: Because he came back and played and he wore number 37.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_00]: And then he came back to the next year.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_00]: And he was still running pulse back for touchdowns at 37 years old.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_00]: He was a special thing.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_01]: He was on the Burger King commercial where he got his image got Burger King.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_01]: All right, let's move on to a tight end position because we all seem to be pretty happy with who they're going with and we are at least we we know who they're going with a tight end Four locks on the roster right now and I think there's only four spots and that's really Andrew's hybner quivis and smite I don't see them Letting go on any of those guys and I tell you it hasn't all been You know flowers for those four tight ends so far this can't
- 18:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it seems like a lot of mistakes, some drop balls, some ball security issues after the catch.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_00]: Claims to seem to have a hard time adjusting to the game, Hibner.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_00]: seems like maybe the draft grades before the Ravens quote unquote reach for him may have been more accurate.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_00]: And Andrews unfortunately, so he's continuing the downward trajectory that he showed last season.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_00]: We did a show, what I want to say three weeks ago, where we said the most concerning position group and played out was my number one and after hearing reports about camp from you and from others, my concern level has only increased.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I don't want to, okay, let's start with Andrews.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_01]: Andrews has not been catching anything that's going over the defense so far.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_01]: And one thing, you know, you really want from Andrews, as you want him to be an extended play target, but you also want him to be able to hit balls between level two and three off play action.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_01]: That's just, it really has not happened so far.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_01]: You know, probably the most scary thing is that Mar is jamming balls into tight windows trying to get Lamar that I try to get Andrews to football and having a great deal of difficulty doing it.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_01]: There's strips from Ryan, there's place from behind, there's season to be a lot of sitting on him.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_01]: in that way but just two things about that one is Andrew's got to be a shaken if he's if he's going to be a value and two is Lamarney said I'll take that throw when Andrew's is the is the fitted in target but he's still he's still trying to throw him the football lot and it's not going well so far he's been really not productive but I'd say you know that's true of a broader set of tight ends not just Andrew's.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, we said last year, the Andrew's contract extension was quite from what the time considering his declining metrics.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_00]: I think we both hoped that they would maybe be able to bring back Charlie Colour, because he seemed to be on the rise.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_00]: And they made a choice, and the direct draft board didn't falter on the way they wanted.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_00]: and they're maybe a little bit of a tough spot and I don't know if this is going to be the tight-end centric offense that has been in years past and that's not a terrible thing.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_00]: You know, if you get good blacken out a small thing, you get some nice key third medium conversions out of the entries and it's a viable part of the offensive scheme, that's great, but not that's going to be centered around the tight-end's like an aspect.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_01]: Right, I think it's pretty good chance it's not going to happen that way.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_01]: Hibner, I want to talk about him a little bit.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_01]: I know Hibner and Quiva, so I'm going to put him in the same boat because they have some of the same problems.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_01]: the two guys on the lounge, but it's really gear downing more than Ryan Mc.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_01]: They are super high on the tight ends and hybner in particular.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_01]: And the unfortunate thing is, this is not a me versus hymn thing on this, but we've been now, I've probably seen him once per day at practice and whatnot, we talk a little bit about him, or at that point,
- 21:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm really rooting for the guy, but the guy just cannot seem to single catch the football.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just so dismayed by it, but every ball that seems to be coming at him, you know, he seems to either, he said some drops, he had a couple drops, but he said other plays where he can't, he can't secure the football in the first catch, which means he's losing, yeah.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_01]: And he's been contained a lot on those kind of plays and the other thing is he's not catching the ball down the field at all and I did have a two plays on Tuesday.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's two days ago, right?
- 21:38[SPEAKER_01]: Two plays on Tuesday that were in red zone and they both were about 10 yards and were probably were both touchdowns.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_01]: So that was nice.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_01]: We have not seen very much Ells from him.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_01]: Otherwise, today he got stripped of the ball.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_01]: Wait a minute, am I thinking the right?
- 21:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he just got stripped for an incomplete pass today, not for a fall ball.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_01]: By I think it was counter-jacks.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's been a very, very tough camp for him.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'll give you another thing, too, is that I really does not go like any sort of a force as a blonger.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_01]: Tavius Robinson, that Tavius Robinson, that's a tough matchup for him, but he destroyed him.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_01]: And he needs to be able, he probably needs to be able to, the notion that he could provide some sort of inline value, I think, is it,
- 22:25[SPEAKER_01]: is a pretty big reach at this point.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_01]: The notion that he could be fried is a likely tight blocking value where it goes to level two and the largest guy ever has to block is an inside linebacker.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_01]: That's more of a possibility.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_00]: You know, there's this notion that the Ravens double-dipped tight-ends, so they're going to wait, they got two good guns because they've done it before.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_00]: Let's be mindful that Hayden Hers was a first round pick, Mark Hayden was a third round pick, Hibner and Koevas were drafted with much less capital, and they had much less sort of rent.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_00]: pedigree entering the draft, what's who your thoughts will play about, so then I'll make a, also it's had a lot of trouble holding on to football.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_01]: And he's also had some problems walking.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_01]: It's, their problems are actually fairly similar, I'd say, in that regard.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, the guy who's actually looked like a little bit of a receiver, not much.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, but he had 25 yard
- 23:24[SPEAKER_01]: And he said a couple plays down the field.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_01]: I don't expect him to be a big receiving target, but you know, when you're all turned it was our what they are, he might be a bigger video.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know, and he probably phrases the floor the group, he knows the offense, he's established as a
- 23:40[SPEAKER_00]: maybe league average or less than the average blocker.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see how at the next couple weeks go what I do think that they may want to consider looking for a free agent.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_00]: And one player with a pretty good pedigree who I was not aware was a free agent is Jonas Smith.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_00]: who had a long career with the Titans, played last year, I believe, with the Steelers.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_00]: He's getting along on the tooth, but he might be able to raise the floor of this group a little bit.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_00]: He's not the huge guy.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's maybe 6, 3, 2, 50.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_00]: So he does give you something in line.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_00]: Pretty good hands.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure how much of a yak threat he would be at his later stage of his career, but he might be somebody worth looking at.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 24:25[SPEAKER_01]: Desperate times I would not be excited about if they had signed China Smith this off season I've been pretty upset about it.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_01]: But depending on how things play out with this group, I could see a signing of that ilk occurring during the season in terms of veteran guy.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_01]: You know, so we have a question coming up in the mail bag about this, I don't want to spoil it.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we'll just do it right now is should the Ravens consider signing the Zach earth.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't excite, you know, he's better.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_01]: What 110 years old then?
- 24:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, he was still, he had a cop-pric-opted games last year if I remember, he was never much of a blocker, ever.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_00]: He was an intermediate threat for a while there.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_00]: I personally, if the question is, Jonah or Ertts, I think I prefer Jonah, just because he's more with two-way thud.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_01]: I'm with you on that he he still was used to my think last year a lot to run the force which was interesting that they they did some of that so we'll see how that works out you know it's it is a fairly weak group they have the one guy they have is their fifth tight it well they have two guys they have pets like pets uh...
- 25:40[SPEAKER_01]: Now, honestly, I don't think he's played much worse than either Hibner or Quavus, but he's not taking either of their spots.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, they can pets as kind of a free practice squad player if you want.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_01]: He's probably a free-cut and return at some later point if you wanted to do that.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_01]: But Lucas Scott is the guy who is a good-blocking tight end who they've tried to get a couple of targets in the combination of mini-camp and
- 26:06[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the start of training camp.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_01]: I would like to see them get him more targets and then you have a legitimate black back up to smite at least and he wouldn't be a guy that would do what quave us or hybner or Andrews, but look at Scott, by the way, offensive tackle at army.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_01]: He is really slim down.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_01]: He weighs about maybe 262 65 right now.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_01]: The guy can run a little bit and.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_01]: You know, not a lot.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_01]: He's not a super fast guy or anything.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to make it sound that way.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_01]: He's mostly an inline, telling him that as I use it, but he has a little bit of receiving threat to him and much more than Patrick record.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_01]: By the way, he was going to be the next Patrick record.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_01]: And he's much more ever receiving threat than Patrick.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm intrigued by Scott.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_00]: do they need a pure backup blocking tackle with the possibility of every June being the 6th alignment, I'm not positive.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_00]: But I'll let you see what Scott can bring.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it should be an open competition.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_00]: Scott beats out, one of the guys he drafted, so be it.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_00]: So I'll just put up during Smith here.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_00]: He eats 30 years old.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_00]: He is 6, 3, 2, 48.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_00]: He made the Pro Bowl in 2024 with Miami.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_00]: With Pittsburgh last year, you started seven games.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_00]: He had 38 catches on 54 targets for a pity, pedophile, 4.1 yards per target, but two years removed.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_00]: But two years removed, he was eight yards a target, which isn't bad.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that's a desperate time, desperate measures, put potential.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so that was it was in 24, honestly, that's a lot like Andrew's pattern was just two years.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of scary.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_01]: True.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_01]: That, you know, you're told me that.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_01]: And it, it just, you've got these images and you're still going to get it out to us.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_01]: All right, let's go through some mailbag questions here and we start with Owen Hill.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_01]: He wants to know our top 18 to 20 on each side of the ball.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_01]: And I want to tell you right now, we're not going to answer that question directly here.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_01]: What we're going to do is do a about two depth shots per week here as we get closer to the season.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_01]: So you have a good idea of where we stand on that.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, when we're talking,
- 28:17[SPEAKER_01]: We already talk about the 25th man on the roster because I think everybody understands that the 25th man on either side of the ball because I think I think people generally understand exactly what we expect positionally as the listeners that that assumption is probably not a good one.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_01]: There's probably a lot of, if we're generating new listeners, hey, they're going to want to know how we think about it.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_01]: But let's start with the offense, just briefly, to give you a question a little bit of airtime here, is that expected to be too core to pass.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_01]: I expected to be either three, three plus X at the running back positions.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_01]: They could, they could have a plus one there.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_01]: I expect four tight ends to be the thing.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_01]: I don't see them carrying a fifth there.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_01]: I expect nine plus X at the offensive line positions.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_01]: That's one of the positions where you can use an extra spot.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_01]: And I expect wider severs to be six.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_01]: And I guess there are people out there who would say there's a, there could be a plus one at receiver, but you've got one extra spot basically to be allocate.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_01]: You get 24 of them as lock down.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_01]: And so that spot basically this year,
- 29:27[SPEAKER_01]: running back, which helps you on someone's special teams on kickoff returns or 10 offensive linemen.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, so that would be their option or I'll go back to what I said in the first episode.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_00]: It's potentially good 2426 this year.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_00]: I'd give it about 25% chance, 2530% chance.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, we are 2530.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_01]: I'm happy to take the other side of that bet as people have witnessed on it before already.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, and I appreciate your question.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully we'll be able to answer that over the
- 29:56[SPEAKER_00]: five defensive linemen, five outside backers, four inside backers, seven corners, four safety's.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_00]: That's what they're talking about.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_01]: I'm locked in with you, that takes us to 25 exactly.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_01]: And you've already allocated the extra spot to corner back, which is fine, that's why I put it.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_01]: But there are other people who would say 60 offensive linemen.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_01]: So I think we ought to say, you know, the basis for safety, the basis six at corner, the basis for an inside lineback,
- 30:26[SPEAKER_01]: Um, the base and outside linebacker is again for that's a, that's a potential spot where there are people who would say I'm not going to not going to carry an extra one there.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_01]: So, you, you know, you, you, you put the fifth outside linebacker in there.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_01]: That's probably correct.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to show that guys on the team.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, one way to go.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I want to appreciate your question.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_01]: Go ahead.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_01]: Move on to Brian Sparb, Brian.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_01]: A couple of weeks in a row.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_01]: He's been in the mail bag.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_01]: How much will we continue to see the mesh point used with the new offense?
- 31:02[SPEAKER_01]: One of two questions he's got today.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I got.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'm going to say, I think it has to be part of the new office.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how to say this without really pissing off people who think, well, well, Mark Jackson can win games just because he's in the pocket.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_01]: And he can be a great part.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_01]: He's never been given that opportunity.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_01]: Well, think of it this way.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_01]: The Mark Jackson is a Ferrari convertible, AC, or whatever is the Lamborghini convertible, maybe the highest possible model of car you could buy.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_01]: And you can just run him with the top up, and that would be using him as a pass or own life.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_01]: But you get so much more value from using him in the run game with the mesh point.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think the Ravens are crazy to give it up, and I didn't think it's worth the injury risk, and they've got to basically take it for as long as Lamar could still do it.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_01]: As long as you can be an effective runner.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_01]: It's a, I just, I don't see ever sitting him down to that.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_01]: Guys, the ravens have built the most effective running game in the history of the national football league.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_01]: We got that last seven years.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_01]: What the hell do you want to change about this?
- 32:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's the most not broken thing that ever was not broken.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think Brian's asking to change it.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's hoping to keep it.
- 32:21[SPEAKER_00]: At least that's how I read his question.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_00]: I think there will be much more for sure.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_00]: It's the use in other analogy.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_00]: We, and I'm not seeing my views, the best soccer player of all time, and he's naturally left for it, but he does occasionally peak score goals with his right foot.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_00]: It was to make a sense with his right foot.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_00]: So you could make him only play left foot, and he probably still would be one of the very best players, but why would you want to do that?
- 32:42[SPEAKER_00]: Take away his other option.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_00]: So, I guess it is a little bit interesting because we are expecting more under center snaps.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_00]: So, how does that work with the mesh point?
- 32:52[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, you still can mesh point, but Lamar has the back to the defense in that scenario.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_00]: So, is there going to be less in it potentially?
- 33:00[SPEAKER_00]: But I definitely think they're not going to eliminate that, that would be foolish.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't, it's not the same thing in terms of a mesh point.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_01]: The value of a forward facing mesh point is you read the defense.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_01]: And you have Lamar Jackson's the greatest leverage reader.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe that the NFL is ever known.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_01]: He's certainly up there with GLC, there's Bayer Sanders.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_01]: Some of the greatest running backs of all time in terms of his ability to figure out what a defender is, is, is, is skiing on.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_01]: You don't want to take that out of the offense.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_01]: So Brian, I know this is not your idea.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_01]: I think you're just hoping to see it.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_01]: I appreciate you.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_01]: Let's move on.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_01]: It's cave on wall as a candidate for a handshake deal slash practice squad spot.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, I think that's where he ends up.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_01]: What do you think?
- 33:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think so.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you need some depth at safety.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_00]: You got four good ones, but you want to have a fifth in case of injury.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_00]: And he's got some experience.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_00]: So handshake deal practice squad makes perfect sense.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that's in fact we're going to end up and I think he's worth a veteran spot on the practice squad to maintain that extra depth piece, just in case there is some a tradition to say, Well, I mean, can't how many veterans spots do you get by the five, I think it ends up being, you know what I don't want to say.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was fuller, but it might be like you have two, you have two others that are exemptions or something and forward that are veterans, or it might be two and two, I can't say for sure.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_01]: But it's a limited, it's a scarce resource.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_01]: That's important to know.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_01]: All right, Brian is also the one that said that Kendall Lamb had played for Ledford in college.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_01]: I appreciate you submitting that, Brian.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, a comments and questions, both fine.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_01]: Keith Krance is next.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_01]: He says, should the Ravens consider a prove at deal with Zach Ertz?
- 34:43[SPEAKER_01]: We've got a both way you did on this.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_01]: I appreciate you ask of the question, Keith.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_01]: Do you have any other titans in mind?
- 34:48[SPEAKER_01]: And how do you feel about John and Smith?
- 34:50[SPEAKER_01]: I tossed that in if you would, and I'd love to hear it, and I'll put it on the nail bag next week if you want to toss in your comments about John Smith versus Saccords.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_01]: And if you really feel strongly about Saccords, I'd have you on for a show to talk about it and we can do it.
- 35:08[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think there's anybody out there who feels that strongly about Saccords at this point, but maybe there's somebody.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, agreed.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_01]: All right, can I ask you to look at the hashtag to help me out back on Twitter why read the next question.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_01]: So Evan Rothschild says, how is Jacobi Lane performing on routine plays setting aside the great catches?
- 35:31[SPEAKER_01]: his actual question I said I'd read it from the email but it's a legitimate question because he's really asking like I see only great plays from Lane in camp and I think he's actually right that he's probably had less non-great plays than I maybe would expect.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_01]: and got a great catch raise.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_01]: That's the thing we have seen from him all this, you know, since it's drafted, is that he can reach outside the frame and make plays.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_01]: And that was really going well early when they had a bunch of guys who couldn't feel the ball accurately and like Pavia and Fagnano and Huntley and Thomson were thrown in the football.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_01]: That's a good opportunity for some highlight catches.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but in terms of routine plays, uh, I would say consistently getting open is not something I could really attest a tribute to him.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_01]: He did get open behind the defense today and the ball got under throne.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_01]: So that's unfortunate.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and I don't think I, you make a point in his email here that, um, he's going to, he's going to have a hard time making his living outshumping corners and living on contested catch zone.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_01]: But that's 100% true.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_01]: There's nobody who can live on all contested catches and a matter of how good they are, but Lane I think you know may come down to usage that maybe they'll use them a little bit like a tight-end Yeah, I think so so we have four I think three or four on Twitter Let's go to Will Saunders.
- 36:57[SPEAKER_00]: Pay can House Vega looked his physicality can't proceed with our pads But footwork mobility and movement to the second level
- 37:04[SPEAKER_00]: From what's been reported, Rosengarten has started slowly and getting beat regularly.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_00]: Is the backup right tackle Jones?
- 37:11[SPEAKER_00]: Is there a chance to show him starts?
- 37:14[SPEAKER_01]: So Rosengarten has had to play a lot opposite Zion young.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_01]: That is a tough matchup for anybody.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_01]: And so that's one of the reasons why he's probably lost a few.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_01]: I am actually fairly optimistic about Rosengarten this season relative to
- 37:32[SPEAKER_01]: You know, where he was last year, Rosengart was at the podium fairly recently, talked about it's kind of a backhanded slap, by the way, you get it.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_01]: Is the team's putting me in a great position by playing next to Venga?
- 37:45[SPEAKER_01]: Because, you know, in terms of, you know, maybe making me look good.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_01]: What he's basically saying is the team put me in a crappy position last year.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not, I don't like that as an excuse, by the way, and there's no doubt he could possibly have really heard him.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_01]: Vancouver should be a guy who helps, I think, a lot on something that will help.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_01]: Rosengarten's play, and that is help boss.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_01]: So if he is an inside out processor and he's a really good pass blocker in college, then there won't be a lot of guys who are gonna want to stand up directly to Van Gogh because he's just these two powerful and too well leveraged out to really want to do that.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_01]: He may well have a guard bubble on that side of fair amount.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_01]: When that happens, process inside out, make sure the blitz is coming, and then you go hammer the hell out of Rosengarten's guy will be his general mode of operation.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_01]: And he should be very good at that.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I thought Rose Garden was the best offense along with the team last year, all at all, you know.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm surprised that he had a slow start.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_00]: I've heard that other sources as well.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_00]: So hopefully, you get to it together.
- 38:50[SPEAKER_00]: And is it out of the possibility?
- 38:53[SPEAKER_00]: I haven't seen enough from Jones to say, but I am probably higher on Jones than so, every chance.
- 38:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so in terms of him playing that right tackle spot, if Rosengarton were to really fall in his faces.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I think so.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_01]: OK, not because of entry, but OK, I think be very unlikely.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_01]: They replace Rosengarton, but I guess if you can see the depths of the depths, it's possible.
- 39:16[SPEAKER_01]: Rosengarton is just too stably averaged to lose his job, I believe.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_01]: And I kind of, I kind of do believe that's a floor for him and with, you know, he did, he probably had a little bit better scoring year as a rookie with a lot of help.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_01]: And then his second year he probably scored a little bit worse by my system with much less help.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_01]: He really had to leave him on an island a lot.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, he was, you know,
- 39:45[SPEAKER_01]: I'm optimistic with two user runway left that he's still going to be a better player.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_01]: He's way outplayed the other guys in the draft class with the exception of Joe Ol.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, please let us put the passbook on a team list here by grading.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, let's move on to minion hunter.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_00]: What do you think about McCarthy, Mike McCarthy, I mean, the sealist practice of tackling to the ground in practice.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_00]: What do you think it means for Ravens vs. Steelers?
- 40:16[SPEAKER_01]: on how they've practiced.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_01]: The Ravens did finish practice today by the way with a live tackling segment, including only the number three.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_01]: So they weren't gonna do it with just anybody on the field, which is as you smart, but they did do it with guys who didn't have a lot of experience with tackling since they played college, well, frankly.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_01]: Um, so anyway, they had those guys on and they did some, uh, I'm not a fan of it in general.
- 40:44[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's, it's a, it's a ridiculous risk and you get tough on the week you, you're going to play the Steelers, you get tough in the, in the, in general, in terms of, you know, honing your, your team, uh, with tough defenders on the other side of the ball, with, with, yeah, but the only thing I'd say is that, that, you know, Derek Henry,
- 41:07[SPEAKER_01]: and Adam Randall, probably will not know what it's like to be tackled until the regular season starts.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_01]: Derek Henry, because he's not gonna, he's not gonna play in the preseason at all.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_01]: Adam Randall, because they're not gonna go through any of this.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_01]: Well, they didn't, they didn't, he got tackled once in practice today, but it's not gonna generally be a thing.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_01]: Preseason, I don't think it matters at all in the case of Derek Henry that he just knows what it's like.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_00]: Well, not.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_00]: The Ravens are a very veteran team, probably one more veteran that he'd been in years past this year.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_00]: So most of the guys don't need that,
- 41:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think Anomenal will have some, if you tackle it in the preseason, so unless he takes everything to the house, I expect him to play some of the preseason.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, now he'll play some, you're right, and you know, just to sit, won't rush, he'd only, it'll be interesting to, you know, what they exactly wanted to do here, but they have to give some running back, some run, they've got a couple of guys, Elijah, Tau-Tau-over, and I'm like, Millen, they've got guys on the roster that they can put in for the second
- 42:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so I'll just put my quick spin.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't see the clip of the Steelers.
- 42:08[SPEAKER_00]: If they were, if they were tackling the ground with their ones, I think that's stupid.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_00]: At this point of the year, and I think Mike McCarthy is getting a little bit to stuck in the ways.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_00]: If that's not going to mean anything.
- 42:21[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the Ravens and Steelers are going to have a hard-hitting rivalry, no matter who, no matter what, no matter who's doing what and August itself.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_01]: It's an easy game to get people motivated for because the national expectation of it is so high.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_01]: Next question, Richard Thorndike, on draft night, you can, did not like the lane pick.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_01]: Have you softened sense, absolutely?
- 42:43[SPEAKER_01]: And by the way, any analyst who gets wetted to a position on any player is that's not a good analyst.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_01]: Because that's part of what is.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_01]: You need to, you know, probably the most fun thing about doing what I do is allowing yourself to be continually surprised by the data.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_01]: and Lane is, you know, come out looking like the catch radius is every bit as advertised and he's gotten a more Jackson's attention and, you know, he and Lamar have kind of a connection.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_01]: That's great.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that could turn it to something substantial and we'll see how valuable and effective that is in the NFL.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_01]: And I still think the other question is valid also about, you know, how is he going to look on the on the regular catches.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_01]: I hope we see, you know, opportunities for more of them.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_01]: And it's not just he becomes a contested catch one trick pony, which I don't think is going to happen, but hopefully that's not so we were actually co-hosting the day to screen together.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_00]: the Georgia State small school guy and ever since rookie men in camp I said well I really I've seen something on Jacoby Lane and I definitely don't want 80 for sure the catch radius is something that is very rare, very rare I'm on the weekend um okay yeah this next question is from did you have a follow-up?
- 44:05[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, you go ahead.
- 44:06[SPEAKER_00]: I've got one more.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_00]: The old Perks dead, uh, much of what that means.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_00]: Please address Lamar Contracisuation, explain to the fans of the diet applications if he had not signing before the season, how devastating this could be for a short and long-term future of the team, possibility isn't even own it.
- 44:27[SPEAKER_00]: What is endgame for the agency could be here?
- 44:32[SPEAKER_01]: So that's obviously a comment and not a question.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_01]: We appreciate you.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks for thanks for submitting it.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_01]: But in terms of the risk of Lamar being I feel it too, I'm very concerned about not signing Lamar before 25 and I'm sorry, before 26.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_01]: And what that might mean for the amount of ulcers in the Baltimore area during the 2027 off season.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the last time he was up for Eddie was franchise
- 45:03[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to keep our finish cross.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to hope to maximize this 2020 season and, you know, I feel like you're going to come to a resolution.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_00]: I do believe that, but the way that the Lamar got all the leverage in the deal, he can sort of hold them over the barrel.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_00]: So let's hope it ends well for the team and for Lamar and maybe they make a deeper on the playoffs this year and Lamar, let's take a home down deal in some stack.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that would be terrific.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_01]: And obviously, you know, from all potential angles, obviously, that would be the best possible situation as Lamar wants to take a, you know, even just a marginally team for Emily Diel.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_01]: It's still been the highest paid quarterback in the history of the game, obviously, if they're in particular, if they're even so in the Super Bowl.
- 45:50[SPEAKER_01]: But, but yeah, hopefully it wouldn't be a, you know, it wouldn't be a reset of the market of the type that Tyler Lindibom had.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_01]: And that, you know,
- 46:01[SPEAKER_01]: It won't be as extreme as 50% more than the next high score to back.
- 46:04[SPEAKER_01]: It won't be that, but it could be really extreme if Lamar makes it makes it all the way to free agency.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_01]: And it's a scary to think of it.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_01]: And Lamar would be making a big bet on himself not getting hurt for two straight years, basically, if they did that.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_01]: Another possibility is Lamar could say, I'm not signing with you.
- 46:23[SPEAKER_01]: And
- 46:24[SPEAKER_01]: But what I will do is I'll take off the no trade clause if you trade me to any one of these four or five teams and one of them includes my amy say You know that that's a not insignificant possibility and hopefully Lamar doesn't do that but but if you did that you know the Ravens might be out of options on on how they deal with
- 46:42[SPEAKER_00]: I just don't see why Lamar would be unhappy here.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he has the infrastructure to win a Super Bowl, his state of goal and drafted, I was the winner of Super Bowl.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_00]: I could understand that he grew a little bit frustrated with the previous coaching regime, and maybe they're run heavy tactics.
- 46:56[SPEAKER_00]: But now he's enamored with decondola.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_00]: So why not?
- 47:00[SPEAKER_00]: Why not?
- 47:01[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I just don't, I don't know.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so he's stayed in thing on draft night has zero meaning to me anyways nine years ago, you know, it's it's been so long.
- 47:12[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, do you want to be held anything you said nine years ago, exactly.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_01]: Wait a minute, nine years ago on January 15, 2017, you told me that, you know, it's the album a little bit stubborn, but I'm probably a little bit off of anyway.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, okay, we got another good question here.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_01]: This is from Leo Scarecrow 369 on Reddit.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, he says I'm a really big fan of your show and I had a question for your mailbag.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_01]: A shower thought I had this week.
- 47:41[SPEAKER_01]: By the way, that's too much information.
- 47:43[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to tell you Leo, you can just, you just tell us you had a thought.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_01]: Was it midter than bringing in any charges for agents or coaches?
- 47:50[SPEAKER_01]: At least any that I can see.
- 47:52[SPEAKER_01]: though obviously he previously worked for the Ravens and guys, previous work for the Ravens and with guys, I think he means like Mickins and Volker.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_01]: Now that we're from training camp and with the benefit of hindsight, do you read this possibility as a bet that Mitter sees a lot of value to be extracted in our current crop of rookie contract players?
- 48:11[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously a major selling point of hiring him is that we don't need to change our scheme too much.
- 48:16[SPEAKER_01]: Do you think that extends the type of players we already have on the roster?
- 48:20[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much for all the good content.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_01]: I wish you amazing weekend.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, first of all, thank you for all the nice things you're saying what do you think about that to start us off
- 48:29[SPEAKER_00]: Um, yeah, I certainly think that the hopes to develop the young players on roster, you got a short chance to weigh in on the players they picked, there's no, the Ravens might have made a hard push a little Mac, if I think they probably would have if he if he made it, but I think he resigned right before the window, and I also thought that was a Joe Lombardi or one of the passing game higher ups was his colleague with the
- 49:00[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so that's, I'm not 100% sure of that, but that's, you know, he's hired a bunch of guys he's working with more let's put it that way.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's not a matter of, there's zero of those and I think he's put them in key roles so Volker for example I think will be probably the eyes from the booth.
- 49:22[SPEAKER_01]: to go with Weaver on the sidelines as a motivator and him as a play call.
- 49:28[SPEAKER_00]: So he did, I'm sorry, so when Marty did work with the chargers, but I think that was before mentor got there, he was with them 21, 22, and then he came directly from the Broncos.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_00]: But I thought there was somebody, there's, why does he was coach, and that's in the head over there.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_01]: Another thing about this is that those,
- 49:48[SPEAKER_01]: There is probably some veto penant veto power, but some really serious consideration given if he didn't like a player, but he's basically not in charge of that silo.
- 50:00[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this is not a John Horbaugh with a giants type situation where he is final veto power on transactions.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_01]: This is a even GM and head coach system where the two of them are supposed to go to Bashaddi
- 50:17[SPEAKER_01]: get a solution to something.
- 50:19[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 50:20[SPEAKER_00]: So just I guess the last thought I would have ones.
- 50:23[SPEAKER_00]: Mythers for the competing with
- 50:26[SPEAKER_00]: John Harkwell, Jim Harkwell, hypothetically Todd Monkin, the jets in a way, there's raven sort of satellites all across the league now, and maybe he said, let me go to the college ranks where I know these guys better than the Harkwell brothers and some of these other guys have been the pros for so long to build my own tree so that he can have some branches off of his own tree.
- 50:49[SPEAKER_00]: And I think so far it seems to be very effective strategy.
- 50:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I agree.
- 50:54[SPEAKER_01]: And I think part of this question was about the players too, and the rookie contract players, whether he's faith in them, I mean, if there's ever a Ravens team that has gone away from faith in the rookie contract players, it's probably the Ravens right now.
- 51:08[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, a version of the Ravens anyway, they're extremely veteran team, and particularly stuff that they did with the product, Washington signing, and now having five defensive
- 51:23[SPEAKER_01]: There's a whole bunch of questions about whether or not the Ravens are doing the right thing to let themselves get as old as they have.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, hopefully they'll get the right mix of talent.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know that I would say, I couldn't drive the same conclusion from what you've got Leo.
- 51:43[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's a reasonable question.
- 51:44[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't think I'd draw the same conclusion about.
- 51:47[SPEAKER_01]: It means he has more faith in their rookie players.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_00]: Fair enough.
- 51:50[SPEAKER_00]: No, sir.
- 51:52[SPEAKER_01]: outstanding set of questions and thanks for using film study meal bag at gmail.com that's where you can send your questions in the future.
