David Becomes King of Judah : Faith That Still Asks God After the Door Opens
2 Samuel 2:1–11
Saul is dead. Jonathan is gone. The throne appears open.
David has already been anointed by Samuel. Saul himself acknowledged that David would become king. Jonathan believed it. Abigail spoke of David’s future rule. Years of wilderness preparation seem to have reached their conclusion.
Surely David can simply return and claim the kingdom.
But he does something remarkable.
He asks God.
“Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah?”
God answers:
עֲלֵה, aleh, “Go up.”
David then asks another question…
