- 0:10Speaker 1: Patriot's Unfiltered. If this was reverse and the Dolphins that
- 0:15Speaker 1: came up here on Tuesday, it would barely make the headlines. Well,
- 0:19Speaker 1: I don't know. I think Patriots fans would kill him.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Absolutely major chess checkers there in the right already. I
- 0:26Speaker 1: know our fans and we would be Did you see
- 0:27Speaker 1: he's wearing sleeves? Fred? So I did a little research, Fred,
- 0:30Speaker 1: I know this was about most importance. I did not
- 0:32Speaker 1: play them. Oh you didn't. No. I talked to my
- 0:35Speaker 1: boys and we came up with all about Paul. You know,
- 0:38Speaker 1: they have a lot of and they'll fade down the stred.
- 0:41Speaker 1: They have a lot of that. So we got Trey
- 0:43Speaker 1: Lance with with Jimmy g breathing down his throat? Is
- 0:45Speaker 1: that is that correathing down? I'm born nineteen ninety two.
- 0:51Speaker 1: I should I don't need this. I don't need to
- 0:53Speaker 1: find out my co workers were born after I graduated college.
- 0:56Speaker 1: I really don't need that. Nineteen ninety two, I was
- 0:58Speaker 1: on my fourth arrest at the Patriots unifor was better
- 1:00Speaker 1: than I didn't say the uniforms. Well, their colors are
- 1:02Speaker 1: better than the Niners. Yeah, timeless, I think colors are better,
- 1:05Speaker 1: you know. I'm I happen to like America red, white
- 1:07Speaker 1: and blue. So no, the roundtable, the round table. Oh
- 1:12Speaker 1: thanks for thanks for reading. Sorry France. All right, I've
- 1:14Speaker 1: been doing it through the preseason. I guess no one cares.
- 1:17Speaker 1: This is Patriot's Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan. All Right, welcome
- 1:24Speaker 1: the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here at Chilette Stadium,
- 1:28Speaker 1: and oh, after week one, the sky is falling. I
- 1:34Speaker 1: don't know. I'm I'm not too upset about this game.
- 1:39Speaker 1: And I'll tell you why. It's Deuce, it's Alex, it's Paul,
- 1:44Speaker 1: it's Matt's me. I'll tell you why. I went into
- 1:47Speaker 1: the season made it known clearly on this show that
- 1:50Speaker 1: I was worried about the defense and felt the offense
- 1:54Speaker 1: had the pieces to be a good offense. After this game,
- 1:58Speaker 1: I think the defense played pretty well. You know, a
- 2:00Speaker 1: couple of hiccups and you know that was the difference,
- 2:04Speaker 1: but really they gave up thirteen points, you know, and
- 2:06Speaker 1: one of them was just an absolute blown assignment and
- 2:11Speaker 1: one of the touchdowns. And on offense, they didn't look good,
- 2:17Speaker 1: but I still think they've got the pieces to be better,
- 2:21Speaker 1: to be better. So I'm optimistic that. Wow, the defense
- 2:25Speaker 1: was better than I thought it was going to be.
- 2:27Speaker 1: And I still believe the pieces of there on offense
- 2:30Speaker 1: if they can, you know, just get things together. So
- 2:33Speaker 1: let's go beat Pittsburgh. Let's just go be Pittsburgh. Let's
- 2:37Speaker 1: go get beat Pittsburgh. And I think about it, right,
- 2:39Speaker 1: let's let's bury this one. It's been tough. It's been
- 2:42Speaker 1: a tough couple of days trying to process all this,
- 2:46Speaker 1: trying to find some silver linings. I guess as well.
- 2:49Speaker 1: But it's hard. It's hard. I mean it's uh, based
- 2:53Speaker 1: on the performances that well, for me, it's hard. Um,
- 2:57Speaker 1: I just as you watched the game, I think the
- 3:00Speaker 1: performances going it just looked at lot similar to last year,
- 3:05Speaker 1: you know overall, and like it's like an alternate reality
- 3:09Speaker 1: going on. I know, God bless uh, God bless them.
- 3:12Speaker 1: I mean, we'll see. I mean, it's it's you know,
- 3:13Speaker 1: there's a first week and some of the sloppiness I
- 3:16Speaker 1: think could definitely be we cleaned up and it could
- 3:17Speaker 1: be better. But I just I have a low confidence
- 3:20Speaker 1: level that they can you know, even if they get
- 3:22Speaker 1: that they can beat good teams. Yeah, that that that
- 3:24Speaker 1: this is a football team that can be good teams
- 3:26Speaker 1: this year. That I mean, that's really I think boils
- 3:28Speaker 1: it down to me. I would even take it to
- 3:30Speaker 1: beat similar teams to them, which I don't know. I
- 3:33Speaker 1: don't know how good Miami is. Yeah, that's that's I
- 3:35Speaker 1: don't think Miami was overly impressive. And you know, I
- 3:38Speaker 1: didn't have a chance, like you lose two touchdowns. It's
- 3:42Speaker 1: strange going into only week two and it already, at
- 3:45Speaker 1: least to me, kind of feels like a must win situation.
- 3:47Speaker 1: I agree with you, it does. It's pretty I mean
- 3:49Speaker 1: it's I know, in reality, it's not a must win.
- 3:52Speaker 1: The season will not end if they were owing two,
- 3:55Speaker 1: but it kind of feels like they need something really
- 3:56Speaker 1: good to happen really fast. Well from from a confidence stay, yeah,
- 4:01Speaker 1: that's what I was going to say, not even just
- 4:02Speaker 1: from like, oh, is there still a path to the playoffs.
- 4:05Speaker 1: It's just you haven't really strung any good football together
- 4:08Speaker 1: in a long time other than that Jacksonville game. You know,
- 4:10Speaker 1: really since Christmas the last year, and you know, even then,
- 4:14Speaker 1: it's it's it's still seems very similar to to the
- 4:16Speaker 1: team last year with some of the struggles that they had.
- 4:19Speaker 1: I mean, they're getting killed on social media by everybody,
- 4:23Speaker 1: you know, and it's and it's hard to sit here
- 4:25Speaker 1: and listen to everything we heard throughout the summer about
- 4:27Speaker 1: we talked about it and really have still have some
- 4:30Speaker 1: pushback to anything because it hasn't worked. Nothing has worked
- 4:34Speaker 1: really yet, you know. And I mean I don't want
- 4:36Speaker 1: to like say, oh, this is it that the Patriots
- 4:38Speaker 1: are over, but they need to start finding a way
- 4:41Speaker 1: to perform and play some good football because right now,
- 4:43Speaker 1: it's I mean, it's just there. All the excitement's kind
- 4:46Speaker 1: of been sucked out a little bit for me in
- 4:47Speaker 1: terms of some of the players, you know, like Christian Barmore,
- 4:50Speaker 1: we were so excited if that was a piece, like
- 4:52Speaker 1: you know, excited Anthony Jennings, that was a piece I
- 4:54Speaker 1: was excited, you know, doesn't play. So I think they
- 4:59Speaker 1: got to start to find some success and start to
- 5:01Speaker 1: have some moments that they can really start to rally
- 5:03Speaker 1: around each other and start to you know, get a
- 5:06Speaker 1: little chip on their shoulder. Of everybody's killing you guys.
- 5:09Speaker 1: You know, they're saying you can't do anything that you're
- 5:11Speaker 1: you know, one of the worst five teams in the league. Like,
- 5:14Speaker 1: you know, at some point they've got to write the
- 5:16Speaker 1: ship and get back on track and put together a
- 5:18Speaker 1: good football game. So let's but let's break it down.
- 5:21Speaker 1: I think you and Evan Mike did a pretty good job,
- 5:25Speaker 1: you know, the last couple of days, you know, breaking
- 5:28Speaker 1: it down and pointing out where they fell short a
- 5:31Speaker 1: lot of places, but also you know, where there was
- 5:35Speaker 1: a silver lining. And I think, you know, like I said,
- 5:39Speaker 1: I start with the defense, Like I saw some speed
- 5:42Speaker 1: out there. I saw some guys running around Kyle Dugger
- 5:45Speaker 1: and Phillips before he got hurt. Up front. I thought
- 5:48Speaker 1: they did a decent job against the run. I think
- 5:50Speaker 1: they did it with that. I think they did a
- 5:52Speaker 1: good job containing Hill. You weren't going to stop him,
- 5:55Speaker 1: but when he made the catch, there weren't a lot
- 5:57Speaker 1: of yak you know, And that was the point, is like,
- 6:00Speaker 1: don't give up the big play, don't you know? Now
- 6:03Speaker 1: the wattle thing at the end of the half was disgusting.
- 6:06Speaker 1: That was just disgusting, you know, But if you don't
- 6:09Speaker 1: give up that it's you're talking about a thirteen seven game,
- 6:13Speaker 1: you know what I mean, why stop there? You know,
- 6:16Speaker 1: but what else if we didn't give up? But I'm
- 6:18Speaker 1: just saying that, like that was a disgusting you know,
- 6:21Speaker 1: and it was uncharacteristic. But why was it? This is
- 6:24Speaker 1: what this is my opposition to, right, Why is it uncharactered?
- 6:27Speaker 1: I thought Mike just everything Mike just said is a
- 6:29Speaker 1: thousand percent accurate. This is what they've been now, going
- 6:32Speaker 1: back to the beginning of last December. So why is
- 6:37Speaker 1: it uncharacteristic that three guys couldn't tackle a guy? Well,
- 6:40Speaker 1: I think because for the most part in the game,
- 6:42Speaker 1: I think they were. They did tackle well, you know
- 6:44Speaker 1: they were. I'm a little confused because I I've been
- 6:48Speaker 1: told that the Patriots offense moved the ball very effectively
- 6:51Speaker 1: throughout the game. I'm not talking about the offense right now, no, no,
- 6:54Speaker 1: but but that's what I've been told. Yeah, somehow, the
- 6:57Speaker 1: Patriots defense played exceptionally well. Even Miami moved the ball
- 7:01Speaker 1: far better than the Patriots did and scored more points. Well,
- 7:03Speaker 1: you're comparing their offense to a team that didn't know
- 7:06Speaker 1: but one day was told to no, no no, no, I'm
- 7:08Speaker 1: told that it did play well. The offense. Yes, I
- 7:11Speaker 1: told them it moved the ball that the coach told me.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Forget I got into their territory six or seven times,
- 7:16Speaker 1: even though they didn't. Well, forget about that. I'm not
- 7:18Speaker 1: That's not what I'm talking about. That's what. But But
- 7:20Speaker 1: I don't know how those two things can be just
- 7:23Speaker 1: be true. One of them has to be wrong. What
- 7:26Speaker 1: either The Patriots didn't move the ball effectively. I'm not
- 7:28Speaker 1: talking about the offense right now. You brought that off.
- 7:31Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you. I don't think the Page's defense
- 7:33Speaker 1: played very well. Okay, they had a very good I
- 7:36Speaker 1: thought a very good effort stopping the run. Yeah. I
- 7:38Speaker 1: thought that was a marked improvement over last year. I
- 7:42Speaker 1: thought they completely shut down the run for the most
- 7:44Speaker 1: part for sixty minutes. Tyreek Hill was open every time
- 7:47Speaker 1: they threw the ball to him except for once, and
- 7:49Speaker 1: on that play he took the ball away from Jack
- 7:51Speaker 1: Jones and made a big play. Yeah. So I don't
- 7:53Speaker 1: know how it contains the guy that they targeted over
- 7:56Speaker 1: and over and over again and got first down after
- 7:57Speaker 1: first down after first down targeted. I think that you're
- 8:00Speaker 1: not gonna Jalen Waddle wasn't featured prominently, but every time
- 8:04Speaker 1: he was targeted, he succeeded. Well, listen, it's not like
- 8:08Speaker 1: teams aren't going to complete passes. But I mean, you
- 8:11Speaker 1: have a terrible quarterback on the other side. That's what
- 8:13Speaker 1: I'm told. A terrible quarterback who completes seventy percent of
- 8:16Speaker 1: his passes for two hundred and seventy yards and all
- 8:19Speaker 1: of the speed that I've been told about, couldn't seem
- 8:22Speaker 1: to find Chase Edmonds on some of these key third
- 8:24Speaker 1: down passes in the fourth quarter when desperation setting in.
- 8:28Speaker 1: If we can just get the ball back, maybe we
- 8:29Speaker 1: have a shot to make a comeback. No, we couldn't.
- 8:32Speaker 1: We couldn't keep up with Chase Edmonds in the passing game.
- 8:35Speaker 1: But again, I'm told the defense was great. I think defense,
- 8:38Speaker 1: I think offenses. I don't care what team they're gonna
- 8:40Speaker 1: they're gonna move the ball, They're gonna complete passes. This
- 8:43Speaker 1: is the NFL. When you give up thirteen points. They
- 8:46Speaker 1: also took a knee on the eleven yard line to
- 8:47Speaker 1: close the game. Well, I think by that time the
- 8:49Speaker 1: Patriots were totally gassed. In a given up, you know,
- 8:52Speaker 1: but and started Miami took a knee. Okay, but I'm
- 8:56Speaker 1: just saying I think the defense was gassed by that point.
- 8:59Speaker 1: But I think I think the defense played well. You
- 9:01Speaker 1: can you can disagree. I think they played really well
- 9:04Speaker 1: against the run. I'll accentuate the positive and say, I thought,
- 9:08Speaker 1: gotcha Barmore guy, and especially I thought the best of
- 9:14Speaker 1: that group was Dietrich wives. I thought they played well
- 9:16Speaker 1: up front, and I thought Dugger played well. You know,
- 9:19Speaker 1: I said it was involved in the biggest play of
- 9:21Speaker 1: the game. Negatively, Okay, but you know, like so that's
- 9:25Speaker 1: it that ruins this whole day. That's kind of how
- 9:27Speaker 1: football is. Fred, Well, well, you know, I look at
- 9:30Speaker 1: the whole game, you know, I mean, I probably agree
- 9:34Speaker 1: with you a little bit more. Fred. I'm not doom
- 9:37Speaker 1: and gloom about the defense. I think that there were
- 9:39Speaker 1: some elements in the defense that, you know, I think
- 9:40Speaker 1: that they can that they can build off of on
- 9:42Speaker 1: the offensive side of the ball. I'm not going to
- 9:44Speaker 1: try to tell you the same thing, but I think
- 9:46Speaker 1: that there were moments and I think someone with the
- 9:48Speaker 1: defense screwed up. You know, was an element of Tyreek
- 9:51Speaker 1: Hill being you know, one of the best receivers in
- 9:53Speaker 1: the league and being able to get open because he's
- 9:54Speaker 1: really fast, and you know, I do think that that
- 9:57Speaker 1: it would have been a lot worse if he was
- 9:58Speaker 1: running eighty or touchdown and you know, those kind of
- 10:01Speaker 1: huge plays that we've seen him where he's waving bye
- 10:03Speaker 1: bye to guys. So I do think they contained him.
- 10:05Speaker 1: I do think that there are some elements, and they're
- 10:07Speaker 1: also you know, the mistakes that he can't sweep those
- 10:09Speaker 1: under the rug, and you know, it's the same stuff
- 10:11Speaker 1: with Dugger though. I think with Dugger he has a
- 10:13Speaker 1: big hit and then he blows a coverage. I mean
- 10:15Speaker 1: that that's kind of been the power for course with him. Um,
- 10:18Speaker 1: you know, it's it sucks because you were excited about
- 10:20Speaker 1: how physically looked. He looked like he was anticipating well
- 10:23Speaker 1: and making tackles and excellent tackle you know, but it's
- 10:26Speaker 1: it's you know, then I think that the defense can
- 10:29Speaker 1: come together and play you know, I think competent football.
- 10:32Speaker 1: But you know, is the question really for me is
- 10:34Speaker 1: is can they play well enough to make up for
- 10:36Speaker 1: the shortcomings on the offensive side of the ball. And
- 10:38Speaker 1: that's just where I don't see a lot of reasons
- 10:41Speaker 1: answer the answers no, the answers no. Can they play
- 10:44Speaker 1: well enough when the other team's quarterbacks is capable of
- 10:47Speaker 1: taking advantage more more so than TWA that's what I worry. Yeah,
- 10:50Speaker 1: well that's I mean, that'll be a big We won't
- 10:52Speaker 1: get it this week, but this will be another week
- 10:55Speaker 1: where the other team is going to be in the
- 10:56Speaker 1: teams at best, and then you'll have you know, Lamar
- 10:59Speaker 1: coming up. But I think they got they got issues.
- 11:02Speaker 1: I mean I basically the Trent Brown kind of you
- 11:04Speaker 1: know interview yesterday, that just felt kind of to me
- 11:07Speaker 1: as well. You see, I'm surprised that they made him available. Well,
- 11:11Speaker 1: they had made a stink that he didn't talk after
- 11:13Speaker 1: the game, and then they immediately made him available again.
- 11:17Speaker 1: That yeah, I mean, that's that's the connection that I
- 11:20Speaker 1: saw there. But like he was coerced. Yeah, wow, well
- 11:24Speaker 1: it could be. I mean, you know, these guys actually
- 11:27Speaker 1: are obligated to talk to the media. They get you know,
- 11:30Speaker 1: fined or I think maybe even the team gets fined
- 11:32Speaker 1: if players don't talk to the media m at least
- 11:36Speaker 1: once a week. Every guy. No, I don't think the
- 11:38Speaker 1: team can get fined if a player doesn't unless you
- 11:41Speaker 1: don't make the players available. Yeah, well yeah, that's not
- 11:44Speaker 1: the same thing. I know, but the players were available.
- 11:47Speaker 1: After the game, Trent Brown refused to speak. Okay, but
- 11:50Speaker 1: I mean, I think there's been kind of a little
- 11:51Speaker 1: bit of a I don't want to say a storm
- 11:53Speaker 1: around him. The storm has been around Kendrick Bourne and
- 11:55Speaker 1: his usage and availability. But I think that we're going
- 11:58Speaker 1: to talk about that with Trent Brown. You know, the
- 12:01Speaker 1: thing about him signing here to play one side and
- 12:04Speaker 1: playing the other. It's just like, I don't know, he's
- 12:06Speaker 1: just become a topic a discussion. I feel like since
- 12:08Speaker 1: he missed that preseason game and people are wondering if
- 12:10Speaker 1: he wants to be here. I mean, it's Trent Brown,
- 12:12Speaker 1: it's Kendrick Bourne, and there's probably other I mean, this
- 12:16Speaker 1: is where a coach can lose a team, you know,
- 12:19Speaker 1: this is what happens when teams fall apart. It's all
- 12:22Speaker 1: these little things add up, and now you've lost the
- 12:25Speaker 1: locker room because Trent Brown has three or four friends.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Kendrick Bourne has three or four friends, you know, and
- 12:33Speaker 1: when you've got these disgruntled guys, and I'm not saying
- 12:35Speaker 1: that they are. But this is what we're hearing. You know,
- 12:39Speaker 1: unless the coach can figure out a way to keep
- 12:42Speaker 1: that together, that's how you lose. That's how you lose
- 12:44Speaker 1: a season. Yeah, I mean, I think it goes back
- 12:46Speaker 1: to having some success. You know. It's like it's it's
- 12:48Speaker 1: at some point as a coach of a team when
- 12:51Speaker 1: you're preaching something to the guys and you know, we
- 12:53Speaker 1: got to hang in there, keep fighting, trust me, We'll
- 12:55Speaker 1: trust the process and those kind of things. You know,
- 12:58Speaker 1: at some point you need to have some success and
- 13:00Speaker 1: feel like it's working. And I you know, I think
- 13:03Speaker 1: the preseason and now this first game, we're mostly devoid
- 13:06Speaker 1: of any of those kind of you know, successful woman's.
- 13:09Speaker 1: The closest thing was maybe the Kendrick Bourne play, which
- 13:11Speaker 1: I mean, I think is just such a a weird
- 13:14Speaker 1: piece of this is that he kind of has that
- 13:16Speaker 1: positive energy that I feel like this team really needs
- 13:19Speaker 1: right now, somebody who's excited to go out there and
- 13:21Speaker 1: play and to bring that kind of energy, and yet
- 13:24Speaker 1: he's you know, in the doghouse. I also feel a
- 13:26Speaker 1: style of players it makes sense to all of us
- 13:28Speaker 1: on the outside. Now we don't know what's going on
- 13:31Speaker 1: in the inside. I heard some people compare this to
- 13:33Speaker 1: the Malcolm Butler situation. I think it's it's probably different.
- 13:38Speaker 1: I don't know, but it's probably different in that Butler's
- 13:41Speaker 1: thing like was kind of like two weeks up to
- 13:44Speaker 1: the Super Bowl kind of all. This has been going
- 13:47Speaker 1: on since the beginning of the summer with Kendrick Bourne,
- 13:50Speaker 1: you know, his whole since Carolina. Well, well, I mean
- 13:53Speaker 1: even before that. I feel like my radar went up
- 13:55Speaker 1: on him in the spring. I don't know, Alex, when
- 13:57Speaker 1: you were there when you know, like as soon as
- 13:58Speaker 1: he started, like oh my, and the new offense is dope,
- 14:01Speaker 1: like you know, but that's like those were retracing when
- 14:04Speaker 1: he got benched, right, and then we're going back to
- 14:07Speaker 1: some of the other things that we think. But like
- 14:09Speaker 1: he was out there every day of camp. Yeah, but
- 14:11Speaker 1: but he didn't have a good camp, you know what.
- 14:13Speaker 1: That's on him. It was a silent camp. But that's
- 14:15Speaker 1: on him. No. No, but that's not because he wasn't
- 14:17Speaker 1: given any opportunities either. No, but I'm saying that this
- 14:20Speaker 1: has been building up. It seems like all summer with him,
- 14:23Speaker 1: I know, well, I mean that's I mean, we might
- 14:25Speaker 1: be speaking to two different things. And I also don't
- 14:27Speaker 1: know why Malcolm Butler didn't play, So I don't know
- 14:29Speaker 1: if I can dismiss this being similar to that when
- 14:31Speaker 1: I don't know why Malcolm Butler didn't play. Yeah, I
- 14:33Speaker 1: mean I would just say, I mean what I was
- 14:35Speaker 1: speaking to is just my radar going up on Kendrick Bourne.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Evidently Fred knows in this, you know, last summer when
- 14:41Speaker 1: it when it all kind of started and feeling like
- 14:44Speaker 1: they don't like this, like I mean, I feel like
- 14:46Speaker 1: we've had this conversation about him when it was like, man,
- 14:49Speaker 1: he is really out there in the spot like constantly
- 14:51Speaker 1: this offseason, like I don't know if they're gonna dig
- 14:53Speaker 1: this like that. You know, those things were kind of
- 14:55Speaker 1: happening before the slow camp. You kind of were hoping, well,
- 14:58Speaker 1: it's gonna come out and you the new offense who
- 15:01Speaker 1: will make things better. But it's all been kind of
- 15:03Speaker 1: building with him, So I'm not surprised that we're at
- 15:05Speaker 1: this point, but I would have hoped that they would
- 15:07Speaker 1: have gotten buy it after the benching. I agree, And
- 15:09Speaker 1: that's it. It's odd to me, and that's when you
- 15:11Speaker 1: have no depth and That's the fine line any coach,
- 15:15Speaker 1: you know, has to travel. When you have a guy
- 15:17Speaker 1: that you think is not doing what you need, you
- 15:21Speaker 1: know everybody to do, and you can't make exceptions for
- 15:25Speaker 1: that person, you know, what do you do? You know,
- 15:27Speaker 1: do you you know, turn the other way and let
- 15:30Speaker 1: him keep doing it? Or do you make it clear
- 15:33Speaker 1: to the team that this isn't right? And then when
- 15:35Speaker 1: you do that, you're you're obviously taking a guy off
- 15:38Speaker 1: the field who can help you. Do you think that's
- 15:40Speaker 1: why he's not playing? I have no idea, But do
- 15:42Speaker 1: you think that's why? Because I don't think if that
- 15:44Speaker 1: was why he wasn't playing, so many of his teammates
- 15:46Speaker 1: would be wondering why he's not playing. Yeah, I have
- 15:50Speaker 1: no idea. If he's not doing something that everybody else
- 15:52Speaker 1: is doing, I don't think his teammates would be saying
- 15:54Speaker 1: I don't understand why he's not playing. Hard to know
- 15:58Speaker 1: what's going on behind the scenes, and if it's I mean,
- 16:00Speaker 1: why else would you not play the guy? Can I
- 16:04Speaker 1: give you a theory that I think, you know, I
- 16:07Speaker 1: strongly disagree with, but I think might have something to
- 16:09Speaker 1: do it. I think they love DeVante Parker for some reason.
- 16:11Speaker 1: I don't really understand it. I haven't ever gotten to
- 16:14Speaker 1: play well. Then you got to take someone else out. No,
- 16:18Speaker 1: but they were both on the active roster. No, but
- 16:20Speaker 1: you're not going to necessarily have four wide receivers be
- 16:23Speaker 1: a major part of your game plan, you know, especially
- 16:26Speaker 1: when you need tight ends. Kind of like the old
- 16:29Speaker 1: line got exposed by like the third offensive series, so
- 16:33Speaker 1: it's like you almost need the tight ends out there
- 16:36Speaker 1: to help block. They started the game in two tight
- 16:38Speaker 1: end sets. They played, you know, almost a big chunk
- 16:41Speaker 1: of the game with two tight ends. Yeah. Yeah, so
- 16:44Speaker 1: you're not gonna have four receivers be a big part
- 16:46Speaker 1: of the game if you have two tight ends being
- 16:48Speaker 1: a big part of the game. Now, maybe next week,
- 16:50Speaker 1: maybe it'll be all different different games. We have one,
- 16:53Speaker 1: you know one, you know, one tight end, there'll be
- 16:55Speaker 1: more eleven instead of twelve. And you know you have
- 16:58Speaker 1: three receivers and four receivers on the field all the time.
- 17:01Speaker 1: But I think they love DeVante Parker. And then I
- 17:04Speaker 1: mentioned Nelson Aguilar's camp. It's hard to justify playing Kendrick
- 17:09Speaker 1: over Aguilar looking at their two camps. I don't know.
- 17:11Speaker 1: That was my Devil's advocate take was that you needed
- 17:14Speaker 1: it was simply just personnel. I kind of like that take.
- 17:17Speaker 1: I like it better than mine. Um, you know, to
- 17:20Speaker 1: be honest, I still even have it made me some
- 17:22Speaker 1: credit Mike stealing. Yeah, but I mean, but at some point,
- 17:26Speaker 1: like before the fourth quarter, you're like, Okay, we gotta
- 17:29Speaker 1: mix some things up here, you know. I don't know.
- 17:33Speaker 1: I wonder if maybe it's gonna be I see, I
- 17:37Speaker 1: would like to see a little bit more. And I
- 17:38Speaker 1: agree with one thing that Mike said about the dynamic
- 17:41Speaker 1: nature of Agilore in Bourne. I don't think either one
- 17:44Speaker 1: of them is a game breaking kind of player, but
- 17:47Speaker 1: for this team, they are the dynamic players in the
- 17:49Speaker 1: receiving game, right. I don't think you can argue that.
- 17:52Speaker 1: I mean, I don't think it's a coincidence. The play
- 17:54Speaker 1: before Bowen's catch, or maybe two plays before Boyne's catch,
- 17:57Speaker 1: Agilore had a step on the other side and threw
- 18:00Speaker 1: it out of bounds. Then he came back to a
- 18:02Speaker 1: bomb the other way. Those are the two guys that
- 18:04Speaker 1: are going to get behind the secondary, right, Yeah, why
- 18:09Speaker 1: you're not getting both on the field a little bit
- 18:11Speaker 1: A little bit at the same time. Yeah, I agree.
- 18:13Speaker 1: I mean that was kind of what I wrote about.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Unless you know, they're so worried about protecting Mac. You
- 18:18Speaker 1: know on past plays that you need you need those
- 18:21Speaker 1: tight ends in there. You know, the line was bad.
- 18:23Speaker 1: They were like totally exposed. It looked like they were
- 18:25Speaker 1: just targeting Trent Brown and Cole Strange's side. See, I'll
- 18:29Speaker 1: give you, I'll give you one of those. How did
- 18:31Speaker 1: you think the line was bad too? Um in past protection? Yeah, okay,
- 18:35Speaker 1: so I would largely agree, but you know why because
- 18:38Speaker 1: they had two in no I'm as breakdowns For the
- 18:40Speaker 1: most part during the game, it wasn't that bad. Yeah,
- 18:43Speaker 1: but I agree that makes it bad. Like just like
- 18:47Speaker 1: you know you can make you know, Bill says all
- 18:50Speaker 1: the time, you can make a lot of good plays,
- 18:52Speaker 1: but you judged on the handful that decide the game,
- 18:55Speaker 1: and they had some breakdowns on both sides of the
- 18:57Speaker 1: ball that decided the game. Yeah, you know, And I
- 19:01Speaker 1: don't think Mac had a good game, Let's face it.
- 19:03Speaker 1: You know, he himself didn't have a good game when
- 19:06Speaker 1: we should talk about you know, after the game, he
- 19:08Speaker 1: was seeing in and out of the X ray in
- 19:11Speaker 1: and out of the X ray room. I think I
- 19:14Speaker 1: think he I think it was heat related. This is
- 19:16Speaker 1: just my thing. I think he was having spasms in
- 19:19Speaker 1: his back and I think it was heat related, you know, No,
- 19:23Speaker 1: I mean I think they that's a first I've heard
- 19:25Speaker 1: that one. Yeah, I mean, maybe it was connected. I
- 19:27Speaker 1: thought it was when he took that rough in the
- 19:29Speaker 1: past or penally. I think that's what he kind of
- 19:31Speaker 1: maybe that spurred it on. But maybe it's just my
- 19:33Speaker 1: New England background. I'm still worried about the back because
- 19:36Speaker 1: I don't think it just spasms. I mean, I'm definitely
- 19:39Speaker 1: still worried about the back. I mean, I think Max's
- 19:41Speaker 1: a really tough kid, you know. I Mean, that's one
- 19:43Speaker 1: thing that I would definitely say about him. I think
- 19:45Speaker 1: he's tough. He played two more series after taking that hit. Um,
- 19:49Speaker 1: but the back isn't something you can mess with. Though
- 19:54Speaker 1: you compensate in other places and you can throw your
- 19:57Speaker 1: entire posture in alignment out of whack. I mean, and
- 19:59Speaker 1: did you see that. I mean the video Badar took
- 20:00Speaker 1: of him walking out of the X ray, he looked
- 20:02Speaker 1: kind of, you know, a little stiff, and I mean
- 20:04Speaker 1: he said he was feeling better yesterday. But I don't
- 20:06Speaker 1: think we're out of the woods with that one. Um,
- 20:08Speaker 1: you know, by any stretch of the imagination. Mac, you know,
- 20:10Speaker 1: he needs a good game. He isn't you know, strong
- 20:11Speaker 1: a good game together in a while. And now he's
- 20:13Speaker 1: got to deal with an injury too, Um, you know.
- 20:16Speaker 1: And and how are they gonna I know, we'll get
- 20:17Speaker 1: into Pittsburgh. But yeah, that's a that's a that's a
- 20:20Speaker 1: team they usually like to throw against, right, I mean
- 20:22Speaker 1: that when when you went down there with Brady against them,
- 20:24Speaker 1: it was spread and throw and we don't we might
- 20:26Speaker 1: not even try to run. So I don't make any
- 20:28Speaker 1: comparisons when Tom Brady was here, well, just in terms
- 20:31Speaker 1: of attacking the old Pittsburgh defense, what it seemed like
- 20:34Speaker 1: they like to do was to spread him out and
- 20:36Speaker 1: get the ball out quick and no hesitation to Pittsburgh
- 20:39Speaker 1: likes to get at you. And that's there use their
- 20:41Speaker 1: aggression against them. But you know, with Flores in Pittsburgh, now,
- 20:45Speaker 1: does that change the dynamic? I mean, that's at kidding me.
- 20:48Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, he knows us. And I mean and
- 20:51Speaker 1: and then to bring it back, I mean I think
- 20:53Speaker 1: one of the things that's just really disheartening to me
- 20:56Speaker 1: right now is the commentary that the Patriots are running
- 21:00Speaker 1: like they pulled an offense from Madden. And there's this
- 21:03Speaker 1: very simple and the Dan Orlovsky stuff stuff that, but
- 21:06Speaker 1: that popped up. I mean, you know, I was joking
- 21:08Speaker 1: with Paul, you know, because Olofsky saying they're running the
- 21:10Speaker 1: same play over and over again, and you know where
- 21:12Speaker 1: joking saying she's in the old days when it was working.
- 21:14Speaker 1: And they're like, oh, they run the same run six
- 21:15Speaker 1: times in a row, just the probate times, the toss crack,
- 21:18Speaker 1: just go eight, seven, twelve. You know, they're so good.
- 21:22Speaker 1: They just execute and they they're not afraid to run
- 21:24Speaker 1: the same play. Here's where I'm gonna be on your side, Fred,
- 21:27Speaker 1: this is where I'm gonna you know, so you're not
- 21:29Speaker 1: gonna yell at me. I saw the whole game, like
- 21:32Speaker 1: the first drive. I thought the first drive was pretty good. Right,
- 21:36Speaker 1: So I'm listening to Orlowski, who I like, you know,
- 21:39Speaker 1: I'm not killing Dan Orlovsky, but he's talking about the
- 21:43Speaker 1: repetition of the plays early in the game, like, what
- 21:45Speaker 1: do you probably have the I think it was like
- 21:47Speaker 1: three they ran like three plays three times each or
- 21:52Speaker 1: something like that or twice each on the first drive.
- 21:55Speaker 1: What was wrong with that? Yeah? It right down the field, right.
- 21:59Speaker 1: It was like seven, five, twelve, six, first and ten
- 22:03Speaker 1: of the twenty two, right, Like, why do I have
- 22:05Speaker 1: to change things because I need to show off my
- 22:08Speaker 1: shiny choice like Mike McDaniel who tried to lose the
- 22:10Speaker 1: game in the last five minutes, right, like, it was working.
- 22:14Speaker 1: I had no problem with the operation. The only thing
- 22:17Speaker 1: that I would say minor like in terms of like
- 22:20Speaker 1: Patricia Judge Belichick, that whole thing. Look to me and
- 22:24Speaker 1: Mike and I were talking about this during the game.
- 22:27Speaker 1: They were rushing to get plays off early on. It
- 22:30Speaker 1: looked like there was quick movement in terms of like
- 22:33Speaker 1: the formations getting into it, and there was like you
- 22:36Speaker 1: know that that panis kind of snap it, snap it. Yeah.
- 22:41Speaker 1: They maybe they needed to get the plays in a
- 22:43Speaker 1: little bit faster, But I'd have no problem with the
- 22:45Speaker 1: play calls on that first drive. They went right down
- 22:47Speaker 1: the field, and Orlowski is talking about how well they
- 22:50Speaker 1: just used the same play. Well it worked, yeah, And
- 22:54Speaker 1: that's and that's what I think the question is of
- 22:56Speaker 1: this new offensive, of making it simpler and being able
- 22:59Speaker 1: to go faster. And you know, I'm going back to
- 23:02Speaker 1: thinking about Vince Lombardi and having you know, we run
- 23:05Speaker 1: three plays, but we just run them really well. I
- 23:07Speaker 1: don't think that that works anymore. Now. I'm imagining, you know,
- 23:10Speaker 1: Brian Flores if if this really is like a rudimentary
- 23:14Speaker 1: kind of offense that they're starting out with. I like,
- 23:16Speaker 1: Brian Floor is going to look at that and be like,
- 23:17Speaker 1: and I'll give you a devil's advocate. And I'm gonna
- 23:19Speaker 1: give Greg Badard credit for this because he's the one
- 23:22Speaker 1: I heard say on the way home. You might have
- 23:24Speaker 1: heard the same thing the other day, Mike when he
- 23:27Speaker 1: was talking about like, you know, they had a plan
- 23:30Speaker 1: coming into the game, and their plan was effective again
- 23:33Speaker 1: because they came right out and I think the opening script,
- 23:37Speaker 1: yeah right, And I think they also went into the
- 23:39Speaker 1: locker room at halftime came out with an idea of
- 23:41Speaker 1: what they want to do in the second half, and
- 23:42Speaker 1: that worked also, right. So the fear of that, or
- 23:47Speaker 1: the concern moving forward is that works for three or
- 23:50Speaker 1: four weeks. Teams will figure out what that is and
- 23:54Speaker 1: then they'll make an adjustment to it. Now, you better
- 23:57Speaker 1: be better in that time, like Bill says, you know,
- 24:01Speaker 1: you gotta work things out and get to where you
- 24:03Speaker 1: want to be. I mean I would shorten the timeline though.
- 24:05Speaker 1: I mean I feel like after those first drive, you
- 24:07Speaker 1: know you're getting adjustments now, and is this offensive staff
- 24:10Speaker 1: able to adjust accordingly within the game too. That's a concern.
- 24:15Speaker 1: So you know that that was the nightmare scenario of that.
- 24:19Speaker 1: You know, we need a real offense here, We need
- 24:21Speaker 1: to be able to take advantage of this stuff. So
- 24:24Speaker 1: we'll see. I mean, it ain't gonna fly next week
- 24:26Speaker 1: against that defense. So they better have a huge, kind
- 24:29Speaker 1: of huge break without t J. Watt. I mean, you can't.
- 24:32Speaker 1: You can't overstated it's it's yeah. I mean I see
- 24:37Speaker 1: a lot of attention that he gets. It's huge. I
- 24:39Speaker 1: still feel like they got plenty in the tank though,
- 24:41Speaker 1: between Hayward and uh, you know what's the guy on
- 24:43Speaker 1: the other side who had like high Smith, but it
- 24:46Speaker 1: seems like he's coming into his own from talking to something,
- 24:48Speaker 1: well not talking about from reading some of the people
- 24:50Speaker 1: in Pittsburgh, they thought that Watt was a big part
- 24:52Speaker 1: of that. You know, it was so much the commands
- 24:55Speaker 1: much attention was allowing high Smith I think he had
- 24:59Speaker 1: nine quarterback pressure slash hits um to go with the
- 25:02Speaker 1: three sacks. But it's just like with this offensive line,
- 25:04Speaker 1: like pretty much any defensive line scares me right now
- 25:07Speaker 1: with with how these guys have been looking. Well, I'm
- 25:10Speaker 1: just watching the highlights of the Monday night game last night,
- 25:12Speaker 1: and I'm getting angry all over again. I you know, Fred,
- 25:17Speaker 1: there's nothing that bugs me more watching the game and
- 25:19Speaker 1: then just ineptitude in terms of your play called your
- 25:23Speaker 1: game operation and that was that was just coaching negligence
- 25:27Speaker 1: once again. Did you watch the whole game? I watched
- 25:29Speaker 1: the end. Yeah, I think I turned it off, Like
- 25:32Speaker 1: toward the end of the third I felt like I
- 25:34Speaker 1: was living in a simulation during the first half one
- 25:38Speaker 1: watching Joe Buck and Troy kmancall game on ESPN, and
- 25:42Speaker 1: then Gino Smith being like what like eighteen of nineteen,
- 25:47Speaker 1: no one talked about the second half with Gino Smith
- 25:50Speaker 1: didn't get bad? Well, hey did nothing in the second half. Yeah,
- 25:54Speaker 1: anyway back to the Patriots. Yeah, so the Born thing
- 25:58Speaker 1: is an issue, like what's going to happen and going
- 26:00Speaker 1: forward with him? I heard at one point after he
- 26:04Speaker 1: got taken out he was throwing something on the bench.
- 26:07Speaker 1: I heard that too. I didn't see it. I heard
- 26:09Speaker 1: him talking about the radio yesterday saying that he was
- 26:11Speaker 1: very you know, like he went to go back out
- 26:13Speaker 1: and then they pulled him back off again, and he
- 26:15Speaker 1: was expressing some frustration on the sideline. So it's uh.
- 26:18Speaker 1: He was also like making it known he had the
- 26:21Speaker 1: one finger in the air, one target, one big catch. Yeah.
- 26:25Speaker 1: I think that's the way I saw a lot of
- 26:27Speaker 1: people read knock away Alexa. Did you did you see
- 26:30Speaker 1: him do that? Did you like, could you see him
- 26:32Speaker 1: when he came off. I couldn't, but I could see
- 26:33Speaker 1: the tweets in real time, Okay, and just it's not good.
- 26:37Speaker 1: I mean last year, you know, he was probably one
- 26:41Speaker 1: of the bright spots in the offense. Yeah, and I
- 26:44Speaker 1: think by the end of the year he was probably
- 26:46Speaker 1: the most effective receiver. Yeah. Now, I think they have
- 26:49Speaker 1: four guys that are kinder kinder kind of just sort
- 26:53Speaker 1: of average, you know, average, two above average. But at
- 26:58Speaker 1: the end of the year last year, I think that
- 27:00Speaker 1: he had sort of risen above the others, don't you
- 27:03Speaker 1: I do. Yeah, I mean, especially but for you know,
- 27:05Speaker 1: big plays, big moments, that kind of thing. Um. But
- 27:08Speaker 1: I mean I talk talking a little bit to Evan Um.
- 27:10Speaker 1: You know after the game of just the lack of
- 27:12Speaker 1: intermediate passing game, you know, it was just it all
- 27:15Speaker 1: felt like shots or little dump offs, and that was
- 27:18Speaker 1: kind of it. There was nobody getting hit in stride
- 27:20Speaker 1: ten fifteen yards down the field, the old raiders off.
- 27:23Speaker 1: That was the Mike. The Mike and Paul postgame analysis
- 27:26Speaker 1: was Mike like, we got to find a way to
- 27:29Speaker 1: get something in between. Can we find a way to
- 27:31Speaker 1: get like a fifteen yard crosser or you know, a
- 27:34Speaker 1: twelve yard out that doesn't look like it's going to
- 27:36Speaker 1: get picked off every time, But those are the ones
- 27:38Speaker 1: that Mac does get picked off, especial especially, so you know,
- 27:43Speaker 1: we're going to talk about the two plays that skewed
- 27:45Speaker 1: the game. How about Brandon Jones dropping a pick six
- 27:48Speaker 1: on one of those outs. Yeah, but you know, if
- 27:51Speaker 1: are they avoiding it? Is he not seeing it? Are
- 27:53Speaker 1: they not comfortable throwing it? There? Another thing that that
- 27:56Speaker 1: that cracked me up. I saw one particular play where
- 27:59Speaker 1: Mac must had seventeen different signals at the line, like
- 28:02Speaker 1: I mean, he's like Peyton Manning, you know, and then
- 28:06Speaker 1: it was like hike and then just like a little
- 28:08Speaker 1: checkdown like all that for checkdown like what like I
- 28:11Speaker 1: usually when you're doing that much, it feels like, oh,
- 28:13Speaker 1: I see something, We're going to take advantage and make
- 28:15Speaker 1: a play here, and not like, all right, let's just
- 28:17Speaker 1: child a part of the Ulovski thing that I agree
- 28:19Speaker 1: with Dan on that I think is a worthy second
- 28:23Speaker 1: guess of what their plan is game plan wise. Offensively.
- 28:26Speaker 1: I did think there were a few of those Mike
- 28:28Speaker 1: where he's checking down to a back or trying to
- 28:32Speaker 1: a couple of them on the touchdown drive. I think
- 28:35Speaker 1: he tried to hit Stevenson on one and then he
- 28:37Speaker 1: went to Montgomery and then eventually I think he had
- 28:39Speaker 1: Montgomery for the touchdown. One of them got batted down,
- 28:42Speaker 1: then I think he went to Stevenson, then Montgomery got
- 28:44Speaker 1: the touchdown. Too many bodies in the same area. There's
- 28:48Speaker 1: like a little checkdown back in the in the flat,
- 28:52Speaker 1: and there's like a guy, you know, like a Myers,
- 28:54Speaker 1: you know, four or five yards away in like a
- 28:57Speaker 1: little hook zone, you know. And forgive me if I'm
- 29:00Speaker 1: not getting you know, the terms right, but like too close,
- 29:04Speaker 1: too many receivers in too closer proximity and I think
- 29:07Speaker 1: we're a lost. Evan wrote about that too. I was
- 29:09Speaker 1: like he was talking about things that that stood out
- 29:11Speaker 1: to him in the film review where the spacing, I guess,
- 29:14Speaker 1: the dispersal of the routes, but you could just talk
- 29:18Speaker 1: about stuff you see. Yeah, you know, can I can
- 29:23Speaker 1: I say one more thing too, I've been meaning to
- 29:25Speaker 1: say this. I just want to to shout out, shout
- 29:27Speaker 1: out Jacoby Myers. Yeah. I just you know, the offense
- 29:31Speaker 1: changes things. I mean, he's been here for Brady, for
- 29:34Speaker 1: Cam Newton, for Mac Jones, right from the get and
- 29:36Speaker 1: he just continues to produce in big spots and make
- 29:39Speaker 1: tough catches. I know he's not the you know, maybe
- 29:41Speaker 1: the most underrated whatever you want to call him, but
- 29:44Speaker 1: he's the best. I just think he's He's a really
- 29:46Speaker 1: good player, and at a time when I don't feel
- 29:48Speaker 1: great about just about anything on this offense right now,
- 29:51Speaker 1: he's one piece that I think it comes to play,
- 29:54Speaker 1: got through this whole transition with multiple quarterbacks, continues to
- 29:57Speaker 1: be productive in big spots. It was like my only
- 30:00Speaker 1: pro of the offense. I would maybe slightly put Damien
- 30:04Speaker 1: Harrison there too, but that that that was about it. Yeah,
- 30:07Speaker 1: I mean Stevenson, Like last year, I felt Stevens had
- 30:11Speaker 1: hit the whole faster than Harris was more you know,
- 30:14Speaker 1: explosive from a dead start, as they say. Yeah, but
- 30:20Speaker 1: but yeah, on Sunday it seemed like he was a
- 30:22Speaker 1: little bit more hesitant. He wasn't hitting the hole as fast. Yeah,
- 30:26Speaker 1: a little disappointed. Yeah, I mean there there was some
- 30:28Speaker 1: signs of life, I think, a little bit more as
- 30:30Speaker 1: Paul alluded to from Harris. Um, you know, because they
- 30:33Speaker 1: had a couple of twelve yards runs three carry out,
- 30:37Speaker 1: I thought I should have gotten more carrious good Paul.
- 30:40Speaker 1: I mean they got out of it seventeen. But yeah,
- 30:43Speaker 1: you know it's yeah, in the second half, it's it's
- 30:46Speaker 1: it's a different story. But I thought they kind of
- 30:48Speaker 1: got away, now, you know, in fairness to them, it
- 30:50Speaker 1: got away from them because they got they were completely
- 30:52Speaker 1: ineffective in the second quarter after that first drive, like
- 30:56Speaker 1: the running game went away, and then they got a
- 30:58Speaker 1: couple of good runs in that first drive of the
- 31:00Speaker 1: third quarter two. So some of that is they stopped
- 31:03Speaker 1: running it as well as they had been. Yeah, but
- 31:07Speaker 1: Myers like not only I think he's he's just sort
- 31:12Speaker 1: of always overlooked, but physically I think he was dealing
- 31:16Speaker 1: with something pretty significant. You know, he was out there
- 31:19Speaker 1: pretty early with the warm up crew. Um, he's limited
- 31:22Speaker 1: all week, and then yet you know when you needed
- 31:25Speaker 1: plays like one of the rare bright spots was that
- 31:29Speaker 1: like twenty something yard catch where he goes up in
- 31:33Speaker 1: I mean on the sideline. Great yea, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 31:39Speaker 1: They need him, they need him. It's the unfortunate part
- 31:42Speaker 1: of the offense is that kind of stuff is really
- 31:44Speaker 1: hard to stack together when it's third and long, and
- 31:48Speaker 1: with throwing one up you know in traffic, you know
- 31:50Speaker 1: that just as easily can go off of a guy's
- 31:53Speaker 1: helmet and go to the safety like it did on
- 31:55Speaker 1: the Parker play, which should have been a penalty, Fred
- 31:57Speaker 1: before you yell it should have been, but it was
- 31:59Speaker 1: also short armed. I thought, oh, it's not a good throw,
- 32:01Speaker 1: and I think it's a terrible decision. You're doing whatever
- 32:04Speaker 1: you want. You go right down the field first and
- 32:06Speaker 1: ten from the twenty two. We're gonna throw at their
- 32:09Speaker 1: best corner against It was a little old school Patriot.
- 32:13Speaker 1: They're like, we don't just want to score, we want
- 32:15Speaker 1: to make sure it's Parker. I want to push back
- 32:17Speaker 1: on this on this a little bit because they threw
- 32:19Speaker 1: it Xavien Howard twice and they were both their best play.
- 32:22Speaker 1: It was the fade to Parker. I mean, you knew
- 32:24Speaker 1: it was comment. They threw it Howard on important place.
- 32:27Speaker 1: This is my point with their best play, though, you
- 32:29Speaker 1: know what I mean, Like, why is that the best play?
- 32:32Speaker 1: Jump all to Parkers differs play? How many times the
- 32:34Speaker 1: summer I say, when they get close to the twenty
- 32:36Speaker 1: this year, I'm gonna turn you and go here comes
- 32:38Speaker 1: a face? And how many times the summer you would
- 32:40Speaker 1: say that with disgust. Well that's what they did. I mean,
- 32:42Speaker 1: I knew it was gonna happen. Knowing it's gonna happen
- 32:44Speaker 1: and wanting it to happen in two different things. Don't
- 32:46Speaker 1: tell me you wanted it to happen. I'm fine with that.
- 32:48Speaker 1: You got so mad, I don't. This is a guy
- 32:53Speaker 1: who who called them deep deep corner face. It was
- 32:56Speaker 1: all that the first three mocking criticism all summer. And
- 33:00Speaker 1: I'm by the way, I'm not making fun of him.
- 33:02Speaker 1: He's right. This wasn't even a deep corner right that
- 33:06Speaker 1: they love. It's not the best play. Yeah, I mean,
- 33:09Speaker 1: in the red zone is probably the most effective play
- 33:11Speaker 1: this summer. I was, but if you got any of
- 33:13Speaker 1: the times they did, if you gotta put it up,
- 33:14Speaker 1: you gotta put it up high and allow him to
- 33:17Speaker 1: go up. I thought he's short armed it where Howard
- 33:20Speaker 1: now had a shot to get his hand out. Yeah,
- 33:22Speaker 1: I mean they didn't execute it well. But I mean,
- 33:24Speaker 1: I just, I just I didn't. I mean, everyone just
- 33:26Speaker 1: seemed like, don't throw nears Avian Howard, like they threw
- 33:28Speaker 1: it him twice to their to their guy on the
- 33:30Speaker 1: play that on a play that they like, I don't
- 33:32Speaker 1: think it's that crazy, that's all. I thought it was terrible.
- 33:35Speaker 1: I would push back violently on that. I mean, so
- 33:37Speaker 1: don't throw the park or the whole game, not on
- 33:41Speaker 1: a play like that, where like, I'm not gonna let
- 33:43Speaker 1: it on fold Like. They never used to ignore Darell
- 33:46Speaker 1: Reevs either, But they didn't just throw jump balls toward
- 33:49Speaker 1: Darell Reevs saying my guy's gonna go up again. No,
- 33:52Speaker 1: they waited to see if the guy was open when
- 33:54Speaker 1: he was going against Ruck. He was never open on
- 33:56Speaker 1: that play. They may have gotten bailed out with a
- 33:58Speaker 1: penalty because I do think he grabbed him. He's never
- 34:01Speaker 1: but he was never exactly. Don't tell me that's been
- 34:04Speaker 1: the best play, but that's what it is. Doesn't get
- 34:07Speaker 1: open like like the I mean the same thing with
- 34:09Speaker 1: the Myers, with the Myers, with the Myers catch, I
- 34:12Speaker 1: mean contested catches. Those I mean those. I know I'm
- 34:15Speaker 1: not telling you that. I mean those are great. But
- 34:17Speaker 1: you can't live that way. No, you can't live that way.
- 34:20Speaker 1: I mean Agilo got opened down the sideline. Borne got
- 34:22Speaker 1: open on the other sideline. I mean they're hunter Henry
- 34:26Speaker 1: was open on one of those uh like crosses to
- 34:29Speaker 1: the you know, uh, the the cross to the sideline.
- 34:35Speaker 1: There was a play that was I think that was
- 34:36Speaker 1: early in the game, one of the first two drives.
- 34:39Speaker 1: Like I think they can you know, this is the
- 34:42Speaker 1: other thing, and this is like like uh and this
- 34:45Speaker 1: isn't about Bill. I think Bill's whole positivity is all
- 34:48Speaker 1: about trying to pick up his team. I think he's
- 34:51Speaker 1: trying to instill confidence in his team. I wrote about
- 34:53Speaker 1: it this morning and I said, I can totally understand.
- 34:55Speaker 1: I don't agree with his summation of the game, but
- 34:57Speaker 1: I totally understand what he's doing, and I have no
- 34:59Speaker 1: problem with that. I think he needs to do that.
- 35:02Speaker 1: But like, they ran a couple of plays and didn't
- 35:05Speaker 1: like look like their shoes were tied together. They didn't
- 35:07Speaker 1: fall down, and people are like, oh huh, it was
- 35:09Speaker 1: better than I thought. Oh, what did you think they
- 35:12Speaker 1: were gonna do? They scored seven points, They've got two
- 35:15Speaker 1: hundred and seventy yards, Like, what did you think they
- 35:18Speaker 1: were just gonna go out there and like spontaneously combust
- 35:21Speaker 1: before the game was alost down the summer, I think
- 35:23Speaker 1: some people did that was the summer. I got news
- 35:26Speaker 1: for you. I know everybody didn't believe us. That's what
- 35:29Speaker 1: we saw all summer was what they did on Sunday.
- 35:32Speaker 1: They couldn't run the ball consistently, they couldn't protect consistently,
- 35:36Speaker 1: and they couldn't make plays down the field consistently. They
- 35:39Speaker 1: can check it off and complete seventy percent of the
- 35:41Speaker 1: balls and then the guy would run up and tap
- 35:43Speaker 1: them on the ass and that would be the end
- 35:45Speaker 1: of the play, right Mike, And for the most part,
- 35:48Speaker 1: that's what happened. The one touchdown, even the guy literally
- 35:51Speaker 1: had to roll into the end zone that because because
- 35:58Speaker 1: the young, the young defensive backup picked off by the
- 36:01Speaker 1: not by the Patriot, but I think by Howard. I
- 36:04Speaker 1: think he collided with his own defensive back and he
- 36:07Speaker 1: was out of position. In time, Montgomery just rolled to
- 36:10Speaker 1: the end zone. I felt that for our social crew
- 36:12Speaker 1: on that one, because I'm like, oh, first score of
- 36:13Speaker 1: the season. It's like kind of hard to do a
- 36:15Speaker 1: hype little video of like time. But you know what, whoever,
- 36:20Speaker 1: you know, what I heard was good great awareness by
- 36:23Speaker 1: Montgomery to know that he had to roll in. Oh
- 36:26Speaker 1: my goodness, what I I forget? Should I not make
- 36:30Speaker 1: fun of anybody's come from great? Great aware? Did that
- 36:33Speaker 1: come from inside the building? Should I not be even
- 36:35Speaker 1: making fun of that? Alex was the steam roller's rolling through? Well.
- 36:41Speaker 1: I talk to talk to Tie's mom today. I did.
- 36:43Speaker 1: She was born and I talked to her for like
- 36:45Speaker 1: almost an hour just about life in general. You know,
- 36:47Speaker 1: she made me feel like I'm not doing nearly enough
- 36:50Speaker 1: good in this world. She's just a great Woman's probably not,
- 36:53Speaker 1: I mean, let's face it, certainly not. I mean, look
- 36:56Speaker 1: what I do for a living? True? Am I really helping?
- 36:58Speaker 1: That's what people always say? Like that job is so cool?
- 37:01Speaker 1: I go I watch with other people doing I I
- 37:06Speaker 1: do this how Patriots fans? I think I bring people, yea,
- 37:10Speaker 1: I order it joy. You know, what I always tell
- 37:12Speaker 1: myself is that people find a lot of joy in sports,
- 37:14Speaker 1: and you know, I think that that you know, you
- 37:16Speaker 1: help people and it's and it's a fun thing part
- 37:18Speaker 1: of life that I think. I'm gonna get a little
- 37:20Speaker 1: philosophical here from I mean, I feel like sports, and
- 37:23Speaker 1: specifically football. You know, it sums up the human experience
- 37:26Speaker 1: to very you know, there's not it's not as concrete
- 37:28Speaker 1: in real life wins losses, but you know, it's it's physical,
- 37:31Speaker 1: it's mental, it's that's what I like about it. So
- 37:34Speaker 1: that's why that's my That's why I and I think
- 37:36Speaker 1: that's I agree with Mike. Not necessarily a questionable little
- 37:40Speaker 1: toxination there, But um, I think that's why people are
- 37:43Speaker 1: so like negative right now. I think they're they're worried, like,
- 37:49Speaker 1: is this what this is my outlet? Everyone? You know,
- 37:51Speaker 1: I work hard all week and I look forward to
- 37:53Speaker 1: the game, and I can't really look forward to a
- 37:56Speaker 1: game where I'm going to score seven points and then
- 37:57Speaker 1: have the coach tell me it was a really good
- 37:59Speaker 1: You're really so long people were so used to just
- 38:02Speaker 1: like that really was an escape. You could get excited.
- 38:04Speaker 1: I have all your friends over and glow to the
- 38:07Speaker 1: other fan bases, and now you're the butt of the joke.
- 38:09Speaker 1: Not for long though, just till Sunday. No, sorry, I'm
- 38:13Speaker 1: excited to get back in the community later, for sure
- 38:16Speaker 1: with an event. I'm excited to get back on the
- 38:18Speaker 1: field too. Yeah, I mean back to school. Tom and
- 38:27Speaker 1: Birmingham says Fred. Your opening monologue was a good attempt
- 38:30Speaker 1: to talk fans off the ledge. Almost convince me. But
- 38:33Speaker 1: the truth is this team is not well coached. Fans
- 38:36Speaker 1: can accept rebuilding after many years of the goat that
- 38:39Speaker 1: was Tom Brady, But how much longer do we have
- 38:41Speaker 1: to watch pre snap penalties, blown assignments and misreads. Belichick
- 38:45Speaker 1: takes the time out to emphasize a point and then
- 38:48Speaker 1: the team goes out and promptly does the opposite. Where
- 38:51Speaker 1: is the discipline that used to be the hallmark of
- 38:53Speaker 1: the Patriots. This is going to be a long and
- 38:56Speaker 1: painful season. Yeah, but discipline something we haven't even really
- 39:01Speaker 1: touched on. But I know, and that was one of
- 39:04Speaker 1: my key you know, one of my key pieces I
- 39:06Speaker 1: just you know, felt like this team coming out of
- 39:07Speaker 1: the gate needed to be need to be clean, like,
- 39:09Speaker 1: need to look cohesive. I mean, I it wasn't as
- 39:12Speaker 1: terrible as I thought it might have possibly been, but
- 39:15Speaker 1: I mean it was it was still very distressing, the
- 39:18Speaker 1: mental mistakes in kind of key moments, and and that
- 39:21Speaker 1: just goes back to I'm there's no question in my
- 39:24Speaker 1: mind they're gonna play some games this year. The other
- 39:26Speaker 1: team's gonna not play that great. Probably maybe you know,
- 39:29Speaker 1: have a turnover themselves on the first drive and you know,
- 39:32Speaker 1: Patriots get a little lead and it unfolds like it
- 39:34Speaker 1: did last year and the Bears are coming. Don't worry
- 39:39Speaker 1: about it. But I just feel like it's such a
- 39:41Speaker 1: long way to go to believe that this team can
- 39:43Speaker 1: go toe to toe with the top fifteen teams in
- 39:47Speaker 1: the league and go back and forth and oh yeah,
- 39:50Speaker 1: we're down by ten, but we're gonna score seven and
- 39:52Speaker 1: then we're gonna stop, and then we'll go up by four.
- 39:54Speaker 1: You know, those kind of back and forth games. It's
- 39:56Speaker 1: just it's too much of the same thing where it
- 39:58Speaker 1: starts to unfold badly and you're like, than ain't going
- 40:02Speaker 1: to get out of this hole. And Fred, you talked
- 40:03Speaker 1: about the defense at the beginning of the show, and I,
- 40:06Speaker 1: you know, I would disagree a little bit, not violently
- 40:09Speaker 1: disagree or anything like that, but like you know, Mike
- 40:12Speaker 1: talked about the offense. You know, you know, it's a struggle.
- 40:14Speaker 1: I do think that the defense was probably a little
- 40:17Speaker 1: bit exceeded my expectations a little bit. I do feel
- 40:20Speaker 1: like the run defense was so good. I thought that
- 40:23Speaker 1: could be a sneaky problem because I didn't think they
- 40:26Speaker 1: were going to be allowed to get any help. I
- 40:28Speaker 1: think I thought it was going to be all on
- 40:29Speaker 1: the guys up front to stop the run, and I
- 40:31Speaker 1: think it was, and they did it. Now, I don't
- 40:35Speaker 1: know how good Miami is up front. I think that
- 40:37Speaker 1: they're working through some things. I was laughing with Mike
- 40:40Speaker 1: by the second order. They were on their third right
- 40:43Speaker 1: tackle um, and I think that's an issue for them.
- 40:46Speaker 1: You know, turns Armsted ended up leaving the game in
- 40:48Speaker 1: the second half. I think he ended up coming back.
- 40:51Speaker 1: But they're working through some stuff and they weren't able
- 40:53Speaker 1: to really run the ball. I thought that was a
- 40:55Speaker 1: really good sign for the Patriots if if they can
- 40:58Speaker 1: continue to stop the run without having to vote to
- 41:02Speaker 1: devote extra bodies to do it. Yeah, now you can
- 41:05Speaker 1: make sure that these catches aren't going to be resulting
- 41:07Speaker 1: in fifty yard you know, run after catches, you're gonna have, God,
- 41:11Speaker 1: You're gonna have bodies close enough to make tackles. I'm
- 41:13Speaker 1: really not sure I've seen Dietrich Wise play a better game.
- 41:15Speaker 1: That was a really good game, Like he just like
- 41:18Speaker 1: in the first half, just everywhere. I finally got it
- 41:20Speaker 1: with him like I've always been. I don't quite I
- 41:22Speaker 1: feel like he was a little bit miscast here, but
- 41:24Speaker 1: it seemed like he was really like usually. I mean
- 41:28Speaker 1: it's it's it's where what are we in like year
- 41:30Speaker 1: six with him? But I mean, you know, credit to
- 41:34Speaker 1: him getting named captain. I mean, he's been such a
- 41:37Speaker 1: great guy in the locker room, played very well and
- 41:39Speaker 1: he played really well. So I mean again, I think
- 41:41Speaker 1: those are the kind of guys that they need. Somebody
- 41:43Speaker 1: like him who's you know, full of positive energy and
- 41:46Speaker 1: you know, really seems to be part of the new
- 41:48Speaker 1: kind of core that that's emerging here. Um, gonna open
- 41:51Speaker 1: up the phones in a bit. But one other thing,
- 41:53Speaker 1: the cold strange when he came out of Was that
- 41:56Speaker 1: a benching or just you know, maybe it was a
- 41:58Speaker 1: little I think maybe a little of both. He said
- 42:01Speaker 1: it was planned. Yeah, it just happened directly after it
- 42:05Speaker 1: looked like I take his word for it, right, Yeah, yeah,
- 42:08Speaker 1: yeah he did. And I mean, if you believe in PFF,
- 42:11Speaker 1: they graded him pretty highly. Um, I mean overall on
- 42:15Speaker 1: the offensive line. That's my problem with PF. I know,
- 42:17Speaker 1: I don't. That's why I give the disclaimer. I mean
- 42:19Speaker 1: I say too. I saw Michael Amen you throwing some
- 42:21Speaker 1: guys around two, which was kind of nice to see that.
- 42:24Speaker 1: It's really just the tackles that that I I have
- 42:26Speaker 1: my big questions about. Um. I was saying upstairs, my
- 42:29Speaker 1: worries that they're quiet quitting and they're still there, but
- 42:31Speaker 1: they're not really doing their job right now. UM So
- 42:34Speaker 1: you know what, what we'll see how that continues to
- 42:36Speaker 1: play out. Marcus Cannon too, potentially on the practice squad.
- 42:39Speaker 1: I thought that was interesting, Yeah, to bring him back,
- 42:41Speaker 1: he's uh, he's old. I don't he didn't play in
- 42:43Speaker 1: twenty twenty. I think he played like sixteens last year
- 42:46Speaker 1: the Texas fbilitating back. Yeah, no, I know it, and
- 42:50Speaker 1: it almost made me feel worse to agree, because like,
- 42:53Speaker 1: that's that's how desperate we are. But I think every
- 42:55Speaker 1: team in the league right now is kind of desperate
- 42:57Speaker 1: for for offensive line. I mean the Raiders too, there,
- 42:59Speaker 1: I mean everybody. Everybody's got seemed to have some kind
- 43:02Speaker 1: of issues with with the offensive line right now. All right,
- 43:05Speaker 1: eight five five past five hundred is the a sticket
- 43:07Speaker 1: hot line? Eight five five pats five hundred. Let's go
- 43:10Speaker 1: to Patty and agawam, what's up? Patty? Up? Everyone? Hey,
- 43:16Speaker 1: hello Patty. So at this point, I'm ready to go
- 43:18Speaker 1: to Plan B, which is let's break out the video cameras.
- 43:21Speaker 1: You know, come on, what makes you think they don't
- 43:25Speaker 1: have motto Week one? I did, I did want to
- 43:30Speaker 1: and controversy Hendren Paulie. I know, I know I've been
- 43:36Speaker 1: bellyaching about the offensive line over the past few weeks,
- 43:39Speaker 1: but I'll be the first to admit Max did not
- 43:41Speaker 1: play good on Sunday. Um. You know, I think if
- 43:45Speaker 1: if you know that your line isn't giving you four seconds,
- 43:49Speaker 1: which is sort of standard, I mean, if they're only
- 43:51Speaker 1: giving if they're giving you half of that, you've got
- 43:53Speaker 1: to make adjustments accordingly. And he just like a lot
- 43:57Speaker 1: of guys on the postgame show said he wasn't making
- 44:00Speaker 1: very good decisions. And Mike you had said on the
- 44:02Speaker 1: postgame show you didn't think that this team as good
- 44:05Speaker 1: as a playmaker basically on the receiving corner. I'll disagree.
- 44:10Speaker 1: I think Kendrick Bourne is a guy that can he
- 44:14Speaker 1: can create separation. We saw last year. He can, he
- 44:17Speaker 1: can get yards after the catch. I just don't know
- 44:21Speaker 1: what the hell is going on, you know, like, is
- 44:24Speaker 1: what he did or what he said in the off season,
- 44:26Speaker 1: or maybe maybe it's a compilation of things. But I mean,
- 44:32Speaker 1: can you really afford to have one of your best
- 44:33Speaker 1: playmakers not on the field most of the time, even
- 44:37Speaker 1: this early in the season. I don't think he can.
- 44:39Speaker 1: I mean, if you're trying to win games, you gotta
- 44:41Speaker 1: have your best players out there. Yeah, I mean, I
- 44:43Speaker 1: mean the only thing I'd say is is that regardless
- 44:45Speaker 1: of the off the field stuff, like he didn't do
- 44:46Speaker 1: any on the field this summer, Like, you know, so
- 44:49Speaker 1: if we had seen a lot in the practice field
- 44:51Speaker 1: and be like, oh, they're just sitting on him, like so,
- 44:54Speaker 1: I don't know if there's more going on right now.
- 44:55Speaker 1: It just feels like there's so many things in between
- 44:57Speaker 1: getting him on the field and getting him actively involved
- 45:00Speaker 1: in the offense because off the field stuff's keeping him
- 45:02Speaker 1: off the field. And even when he gets on the field,
- 45:04Speaker 1: I wonder how much they can get the ball to him.
- 45:07Speaker 1: And the conventional you know between the twenties offense that
- 45:11Speaker 1: you know is you know, you're a little bit in
- 45:13Speaker 1: desperation mode there with the past down the sideline to
- 45:15Speaker 1: him in that last game. But you know, can you
- 45:17Speaker 1: can you get him coming over the middle? And I mean,
- 45:19Speaker 1: and I don't you know, And I think aglore has
- 45:22Speaker 1: continues to show a little bit of more of a
- 45:23Speaker 1: burst than I remember him having last year. With Parker
- 45:26Speaker 1: now on the outside, they have the ability maybe to
- 45:28Speaker 1: move Agglo around a little bit more. I'd love to see,
- 45:30Speaker 1: Like Bike Paul said, I think that's a big key
- 45:33Speaker 1: getting those two guys involved. You know, we know what
- 45:35Speaker 1: we have in Parker. It's gonna be fandestic catches little
- 45:38Speaker 1: slants and with Myers on third down and his ability
- 45:42Speaker 1: to find holes and zones and get open and you
- 45:44Speaker 1: need those two complimentary pieces with some speed to you know.
- 45:47Speaker 1: I don't want to say stretch the field in the
- 45:48Speaker 1: sense of getting but you know, getting some chunk plays,
- 45:51Speaker 1: getting some stuff that's easy. It can't be fifteen plays
- 45:53Speaker 1: every time at eight play at eight yards a pop,
- 45:57Speaker 1: just to get down the field, right. That that part
- 45:59Speaker 1: is I think enormous. I mean, I know some teams
- 46:02Speaker 1: are gonna make you work your way back. They don't
- 46:04Speaker 1: really seem to have any other way to score other
- 46:07Speaker 1: than extended drives. And when you have, when you need
- 46:10Speaker 1: extended drives, a penalty is going to kill you. If
- 46:13Speaker 1: you don't get the penalty on fourth down, that's gonna
- 46:16Speaker 1: kill you. Like because that that drive was aided by
- 46:18Speaker 1: a fourth down penalty. I just think they have to
- 46:22Speaker 1: find a way to get some easier yards. It like,
- 46:25Speaker 1: every yard to me is like really really hard earned.
- 46:28Speaker 1: It is. It's a struggle. And even when the ball
- 46:31Speaker 1: is going there, like I feel like we're watching the
- 46:33Speaker 1: ball like here, Mike and I looked at it the
- 46:35Speaker 1: very first play, very first play of the game. They
- 46:38Speaker 1: threw like an out that had an arc to it,
- 46:41Speaker 1: and it wasn't even like a first I was like
- 46:43Speaker 1: eight yards and Mike and I looked at each other,
- 46:46Speaker 1: Oh my god, like and then sure enough, later in
- 46:49Speaker 1: the game he throws one of those that he was
- 46:51Speaker 1: lucky he didn't go for six. It just feels like
- 46:54Speaker 1: this place too. By the time the ball is getting there,
- 46:56Speaker 1: like they're they're getting smoked. I mean, you know, it's like,
- 46:58Speaker 1: oh he's got Now it's a contested It's maybe it
- 47:00Speaker 1: wasn't you know, if you've gotten there a little bit faster.
- 47:02Speaker 1: But yeah, it's it's it's it's got to be better.
- 47:05Speaker 1: Chris with a T I a n Hey Christian, Hey,
- 47:09Speaker 1: how's everybody doing all right? It sounds like better than you? Yeah, yeah, yeah, Hey,
- 47:15Speaker 1: I wish I was doing as good as a call
- 47:17Speaker 1: um um. I just the whole thing and just a
- 47:21Speaker 1: piggyback on what what Patty said and what everybody's saying
- 47:25Speaker 1: about Kendrick Bourne. I don't get it, like I just
- 47:28Speaker 1: I don't get it. Like whatever happened now over a
- 47:31Speaker 1: month ago in Carolina, coupled with his offseason, it's over,
- 47:36Speaker 1: like time to put it to bed. Yeah, I don't know.
- 47:39Speaker 1: Lead over into the regular season just doesn't make any
- 47:43Speaker 1: sense to me at all. And like I was listening
- 47:45Speaker 1: to Mic Rease on the radio yesterday, Moore and he
- 47:47Speaker 1: was like, yeah, but we don't know the context that
- 47:49Speaker 1: we don't know what's going on behind the scene. I
- 47:53Speaker 1: I don't I don't care. If I'll make fun of
- 47:59Speaker 1: every boss to media personality, but Mike Reece is off limits. Buster.
- 48:03Speaker 1: But let's see, thank Karen. Mike's right, though, Christian, I mean,
- 48:08Speaker 1: what you're saying is right. It doesn't make sense. So
- 48:11Speaker 1: there must be something we don't know because it doesn't
- 48:13Speaker 1: make sense done to water. I don't know, I don't know.
- 48:18Speaker 1: I mean, I mean, okay, okay, So say it was
- 48:21Speaker 1: so agregious, then you should trade him if he's that
- 48:23Speaker 1: bad of a guy and it was that bad of
- 48:25Speaker 1: a thing. And my point with to bat Christians, if
- 48:28Speaker 1: it was so egregious, I don't think you hear like
- 48:32Speaker 1: players indicating to media guys which we heard in the
- 48:36Speaker 1: aftermath of Sunday, I was not there obviously that they
- 48:39Speaker 1: look they don't understand it either if it was that egregious.
- 48:43Speaker 1: Just as an example, David Andrews wouldn't be telling someone
- 48:46Speaker 1: I don't really understand why he's not a bigger part
- 48:48Speaker 1: of the game plan, because David Andrews would know what happened,
- 48:51Speaker 1: right if he was being a malcontent continuing on through
- 48:54Speaker 1: all the last few weeks, right, but it seemed like
- 48:58Speaker 1: he's I think you already said he knew he wasn't
- 49:00Speaker 1: going to be a big part of the plan for Yes,
- 49:02Speaker 1: that's why I go back to the offensive line needing
- 49:06Speaker 1: the blocking from the tight ends. I think I'll read
- 49:08Speaker 1: into it way more if we see much of the
- 49:11Speaker 1: same this week against the Steelers, where like, if the
- 49:16Speaker 1: game plans completely you know, different, he still doesn't play. No,
- 49:19Speaker 1: And I think there's the validity to that point, but
- 49:21Speaker 1: I also would say, like you can't just rotate snaps
- 49:28Speaker 1: to that point, specifically to that point little Jordan Humphrey
- 49:33Speaker 1: got in before. Yeah, you know, yeah, he only played
- 49:37Speaker 1: three plays, but I mean he did make an appearance
- 49:40Speaker 1: before Bourn did, so it definitely seems to be more
- 49:43Speaker 1: to it than just well, you know, game plan. Yeah,
- 49:47Speaker 1: there's more to it than that. Greg's in California. What's up? Greg? Hey, guys,
- 49:53Speaker 1: I tuned in kind of late, so I'm not sure
- 49:55Speaker 1: if you covered this already, But is there a status
- 49:58Speaker 1: on Adrian Phillips for this on this No, not that
- 50:01Speaker 1: I've seen anything. Jordan Schultz. Depending on how you feel it,
- 50:04Speaker 1: not from anybody, depending on how you feel about his reiability.
- 50:07Speaker 1: I think he did just get hired by the score,
- 50:09Speaker 1: which which is a notable outlet. But he sat down,
- 50:12Speaker 1: um cautious, cautiously optimistic, which I feel like is ribs right,
- 50:18Speaker 1: ribs phillips. Yeah, so you know, somebody's broken a couple
- 50:22Speaker 1: of ribs. It's not yet, not easy to deal with.
- 50:24Speaker 1: And then the other thing is, I heard you guys
- 50:27Speaker 1: talking about the defense earlier. Do you think that our
- 50:30Speaker 1: defense is actually decent or do you think it's just
- 50:33Speaker 1: too as a weak little noodle arm still being weak.
- 50:36Speaker 1: My first piece of heart evidence says there's hope there.
- 50:39Speaker 1: It's like I was more worried about the defense going
- 50:42Speaker 1: into I'm happier with the way you're talking about it now.
- 50:44Speaker 1: I wouldn't have had my little blow up with you
- 50:46Speaker 1: if you would said it in these terms, like one
- 50:48Speaker 1: part of me can just hope there. I would agree
- 50:51Speaker 1: with one part of me say it's a weird match
- 50:52Speaker 1: up with their ability at wide receiver and the RPO
- 50:55Speaker 1: stuff and just you know what too it does. It's tough,
- 50:57Speaker 1: But I would just say a lot of the games
- 50:59Speaker 1: is you're gonna be like that. I mean, Lamar Jackson
- 51:02Speaker 1: is a weird challenging matchup. Um, you know, not not
- 51:05Speaker 1: necessarily next week with your brisky, but yeah, I would
- 51:09Speaker 1: look forward too, like all the way to week four,
- 51:12Speaker 1: like you know, Aaron Rodgers and I know that he
- 51:13Speaker 1: doesn't have great receivers, but he's gonna find it. I mean,
- 51:16Speaker 1: it's not gonna be like it was Sunday every week
- 51:18Speaker 1: for him. He's going to figure out some things. And
- 51:21Speaker 1: then when you move a little bit more forward into
- 51:24Speaker 1: the season and you're dealing with you know, even like
- 51:27Speaker 1: Kirk Cousins with with those weapons and obviously Josh Allen,
- 51:31Speaker 1: you know, Joe Burrow. What when you're dealing with those
- 51:34Speaker 1: guys and you're you know, you're holding him to thirteen points,
- 51:38Speaker 1: then I'll look at it a little bit different. Yeah, sure,
- 51:41Speaker 1: all right, cool, Thanks guys. Thanks Greg. Um, let's go
- 51:45Speaker 1: to SPI and Fresno. Hey, spe Hey, guys. I think
- 51:49Speaker 1: Paul maybe you're onto something regarding Kendrick Bourn when you
- 51:53Speaker 1: look at the Devonte Parker stuff, because I think that
- 51:55Speaker 1: he's Bill shiny Thoy. I think he wants to stick
- 51:59Speaker 1: part yeah Parker in there, like against Davie and Howard
- 52:02Speaker 1: rather than go with the speedy or Agalore, which is
- 52:05Speaker 1: a point you man the post postgame show fall. I
- 52:08Speaker 1: think that maybe he just wants to ride Parker, even
- 52:10Speaker 1: at the offense of faster guys, like maybe Bill's being
- 52:13Speaker 1: a stick in the mud or yeah, I mean I'm
- 52:17Speaker 1: not not working. Yeah, I'm not gonna put words at
- 52:19Speaker 1: Bill's mouth or anything like that. But and this is
- 52:21Speaker 1: where I would disagree with Mike. I don't necessarily say, well,
- 52:25Speaker 1: Zavian Howard's on the field, so I Am not going
- 52:27Speaker 1: to look at him. I'm never gonna know. I'm gonna
- 52:29Speaker 1: try to get him on a double move. See if
- 52:30Speaker 1: I can be aggressive with him, See if I can
- 52:32Speaker 1: get Agalore or Born behind him, you know in some way,
- 52:36Speaker 1: you know, uh, you know, put a guy in motion,
- 52:38Speaker 1: you know, and see if you can get you know,
- 52:41Speaker 1: get Howard to missus. Simon just straight up locked up.
- 52:44Speaker 1: And I know Howard took Parker, you know, for the
- 52:47Speaker 1: most part in that game. I know that was their matchup.
- 52:50Speaker 1: I don't like that matchup. I'm going to look to
- 52:52Speaker 1: another one, you know, I'm not and I'm certainly not
- 52:55Speaker 1: gonna you know, im not gonna say I'm never gonna
- 52:57Speaker 1: go to him, But the time I go to him
- 52:59Speaker 1: isn't going to be when I'm in the midst of
- 53:01Speaker 1: a great drive on first and ten, you know, from
- 53:03Speaker 1: the twenty two without knowing that he's open, and I
- 53:06Speaker 1: put some of that on Mat. That's not like because
- 53:08Speaker 1: I know a lot of you all twenty two guys
- 53:10Speaker 1: not you specific pointed a lot of you all twenty
- 53:14Speaker 1: two guys pointed out that Jonah Smith was wide open
- 53:16Speaker 1: on that play um and you know, so I put
- 53:18Speaker 1: some of that on Mac. You don't have to throw
- 53:20Speaker 1: it to that guy. Was Jonah Smith a little bit
- 53:23Speaker 1: of a bright spot? I mean I like that one
- 53:26Speaker 1: runn he had where he kind of broke some tackles.
- 53:28Speaker 1: The bar is like under the floor. Wow, it's so
- 53:31Speaker 1: easy to get excited. He caught two screens and we're like,
- 53:34Speaker 1: was he looking for anything? From Jamith? It's all baby steps.
- 53:41Speaker 1: I think it's I think it's it's worth like why
- 53:45Speaker 1: season less? So why are we looking for baby steps
- 53:47Speaker 1: for our fifty million dollar tight end in year two?
- 53:49Speaker 1: I'm just like for anything. It's not like we just
- 53:52Speaker 1: like like to me, Tae Kwon Thornton making two or
- 53:55Speaker 1: three catches, Like, do we see a little something that's
- 53:57Speaker 1: perfectly understandable. But a guy that you invested that amount
- 54:01Speaker 1: of time and money and catching two screens, there's not
- 54:03Speaker 1: something to write home about. Yeah, I kind of looked
- 54:05Speaker 1: the same. N Mike had a great point in the
- 54:08Speaker 1: post game show. Um he said something had a lot
- 54:11Speaker 1: of lines of I don't even know what definite elite
- 54:13Speaker 1: isn't the issue perfect? That might have been perfect? That
- 54:18Speaker 1: might have When I was enjoying my cigarette listening to Mike,
- 54:22Speaker 1: it was philosophical, like because my bias is the seas
- 54:25Speaker 1: is the lens of mass, limit limitations because I doubt
- 54:28Speaker 1: that he's truly a franchise guy. But there's like plenty
- 54:31Speaker 1: of possible causes like it the draft, the coaching, not
- 54:35Speaker 1: having Tom build, maybe being complacent or game passing and buy.
- 54:39Speaker 1: It's just like just because you have a pet peeve,
- 54:41Speaker 1: it doesn't mean that there isn't a ton of stuff
- 54:43Speaker 1: that played. I thought it was a great point by Mike. Sure,
- 54:45Speaker 1: thank you, thank you. But in the post game, even
- 54:51Speaker 1: when there were one o'clock games and it was early,
- 54:53Speaker 1: it was a fast one o'clock game, too. Yeah, it moves.
- 54:55Speaker 1: We started that pregame show like, oh did it three
- 54:58Speaker 1: fifty five? Uh, Kevin's in Delaware, Hey, Kevin, Hey, hey, hey,
- 55:08Speaker 1: hey hear me? Yes, all right, I'm just uh, I'm confused, man,
- 55:16Speaker 1: Like I don't know who's calling the plays. Funny when
- 55:23Speaker 1: when when when the commentators are saying, you know, they
- 55:26Speaker 1: both have the the game card like like like the
- 55:29Speaker 1: play card and they don't know which guys calling the play. Um,
- 55:34Speaker 1: I don't know. You know, the whole issue with with
- 55:36Speaker 1: a k k be not playing even we were losing,
- 55:39Speaker 1: you know, in the second half we needed the extra offing.
- 55:43Speaker 1: Why not put the guy in? You know, I'm I'm
- 55:46Speaker 1: just you know, I've never been we don't have an
- 55:48Speaker 1: answer for that about a game, you know, ever watching
- 55:52Speaker 1: the Patriots for as long as I have been, I
- 55:54Speaker 1: have never ended the game and I'm sitting there saying,
- 55:58Speaker 1: I'm just confused. I don't know what's going on. I
- 56:01Speaker 1: don't know. The offensive line got issues, the defense was fine, No,
- 56:05Speaker 1: they only gave up what thirteen points, you know, bad offensively. Um,
- 56:12Speaker 1: I'm just confused. I I don't know. Yeah, that's what
- 56:17Speaker 1: we're talking. Like a support group yeah, get it out.
- 56:21Speaker 1: I'm confused about Born as well. I mean, I have
- 56:23Speaker 1: to think there's something going on that we don't know.
- 56:25Speaker 1: I mean, it's it's Born, it's Mac, it's the old line,
- 56:29Speaker 1: it's the coaching, it's you know, there's a lot of
- 56:32Speaker 1: things that are either contributing to poor play or need
- 56:37Speaker 1: to happen to contribute to good play, you know. Yeah,
- 56:41Speaker 1: I mean I continue to beat the draft drum because
- 56:43Speaker 1: I just, you know, I think it's gotten to the
- 56:44Speaker 1: point now where you know, if you had, if you
- 56:46Speaker 1: if you had hit on some of those guys the
- 56:48Speaker 1: last few years, you know, it would probably look a
- 56:50Speaker 1: little better. What's just really frightening to me again? And
- 56:52Speaker 1: and I don't want to blow up the Orloski point,
- 56:54Speaker 1: but I just I can't wrap my brain around them
- 56:57Speaker 1: installing like a rudimentary, basic kind of well if it
- 57:01Speaker 1: isn't it. If I hear another defenders say the Patriots
- 57:05Speaker 1: are easy to defend, I'm gonna go crazy because that's
- 57:08Speaker 1: what I heard last year and I never heard that before,
- 57:11Speaker 1: you know, is it? And you know, I'm like, are
- 57:12Speaker 1: they making it so simple that they're expecting that they're
- 57:16Speaker 1: just going to be able to play that fast. It's
- 57:18Speaker 1: just because I don't think that they have athletes to
- 57:22Speaker 1: do that right now, you know. So I hope that
- 57:24Speaker 1: they evolve that that's a big thing, and that they
- 57:26Speaker 1: build off of this and that they create, you know,
- 57:28Speaker 1: a new foundation. But if it's this simple, I just
- 57:30Speaker 1: it's hard to see Pittsburgh not completely shutting this this
- 57:34Speaker 1: whole situation down. Thanks, Kevin, appreciate the call. Mattson Ohio.
- 57:38Speaker 1: What's up, Matt, Hey, guys, how you doing good? Hey? So,
- 57:45Speaker 1: I want to go to a point where Mike said
- 57:48Speaker 1: in the postgame show, um about our tight ends Hunter,
- 57:54Speaker 1: Henry and Johnny just being okay tight ends. I mean,
- 57:58Speaker 1: I hate to agree with you. We paid them like
- 58:00Speaker 1: they're supposed to be great tight ends. So like, yep,
- 58:04Speaker 1: that dout to this point of we needed to run
- 58:08Speaker 1: two tight ends because we couldn't block anybody. I mean,
- 58:11Speaker 1: wasn't that what Aussi Auti did? And uh and um
- 58:16Speaker 1: Johnathan Keen But I mean, yeah Keen right, Yeah, didn't
- 58:20Speaker 1: we pay them the block to? I mean, why are
- 58:22Speaker 1: we paying twelve and a half million dollars a year
- 58:24Speaker 1: for for Henry and Johnny? You're not just paying on
- 58:27Speaker 1: block you need them to be part. I mean, Hunter
- 58:29Speaker 1: Henry had nine touchdowns last year. He's not just a
- 58:32Speaker 1: blocker exactly exactly that that's so that's what's like crazy
- 58:36Speaker 1: to mean, like I hate to agree with with with
- 58:39Speaker 1: dous here, but like why I hate saying that they're
- 58:45Speaker 1: well but but but there's two different things like that.
- 58:49Speaker 1: You you've paid them because you think that they're part
- 58:52Speaker 1: of your passing game and your running game. And you
- 58:56Speaker 1: also paid them because you had to well, because you
- 58:58Speaker 1: have you needed to get cut it had such a
- 59:00Speaker 1: roster that was was birth of talent. You had to
- 59:03Speaker 1: get some talented and you had to make sure you
- 59:05Speaker 1: got them. But what if your quarterback was a top
- 59:08Speaker 1: ten quarterback with Hunter Henry looked better? Yeah? I mean yeah,
- 59:12Speaker 1: I think, I mean, I you think if it was
- 59:13Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes playing quarterback for the Patriots, and I say,
- 59:16Speaker 1: any of the top ten Yeah, yeah, yeah, I agree
- 59:21Speaker 1: that anim Also, the O line gave him some time
- 59:23Speaker 1: to throw the ball. I don't know if you saw
- 59:25Speaker 1: this that on on Twitter there was this guy, uh
- 59:30Speaker 1: was Chad grab Yeah saw that out saying that Jones
- 59:35Speaker 1: had three seconds or more to throw on his drop
- 59:38Speaker 1: backs only three percent at the time, but that's obviously
- 59:41Speaker 1: h not going to bring many games to it as well.
- 59:45Speaker 1: Does that take when when they do stats like that,
- 59:47Speaker 1: and thanks for the call, Yeah, when they do stats
- 59:50Speaker 1: like that to take in consideration the times that the
- 59:53Speaker 1: play is meant to get the ball out quick, right,
- 59:55Speaker 1: you know, and that was what the whole offense was, right.
- 59:58Speaker 1: Miami had a similar thing. They're like lauding their offensive
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: line because it's been such an issue in recent years. Miami.
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: It was like two point seven eight seconds he had
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: or something like that on average, which if it holds,
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: they said, would be an enormous improvement. Like, so, I'm
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: with you, Fred, I think there's a lot of times
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: that the ball was meant to come out immediately, the
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: quick little check downs Mike, you know, like you said,
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: like the whole Peyton Manning thing, He's orchestrating everything up
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: and down and then it's like it's hot and the
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: balls out for three yard game. Right. Yeah. Yeah. The
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: three percent thing just sounded whimlke. So what does that like?
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: Four plays? Like, I don't what's the league average, what's
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: the other plays? But you'll like this, Alex. It's like
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: when they give you the WNBA ratings, they're up forty
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: four percent. Yeah, no, that's another anything. They started the
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: w NBA Finals the second year in a row on
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: the first NFL Sunday Football, Like, I'm just trying to
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: support the Connecticut Sun and they're making it so hard
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: for me. Yeah. Uh, Rashad's in Baltimore. Hey, Rashad, He
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: what's up? Guys? Hey, I just I just want to
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: say first before I say anything, I definitely do want
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: to give a shout out to College Doesn't because I
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: think I think he had a good game he made.
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: I think he made three style of tackles on Tyreek
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: Kill and you know it's a it's a it's something
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: you're talking about Jonathan Jones. They say he's a good tackler. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: but on but on the game in general, it was
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: it was. It was hard to watch. But I thought,
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: and I thought in the beginning, the first couple of
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: drives we were, we were running the ball pretty good.
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: I thought I thought they had something going. But one seat,
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: once they do the pick, I don't know, it's something change.
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: But I thought that first drive they were and even
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: the drive after that, I thought they were running the ball,
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: you know, and throwing the ball. He's not deep, but
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: just they had a good offense going. But I don't
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: like I like the running game. But it's just it's
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: gonna be, I said, I I won't I wouldn't blame Max,
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: but it's gotta be there. It's gotta be the offense.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: Like the coaches have to help them somehow, you know.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: I know everybody's was saying so Pendris Boyd, and I'm
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: saying the same thing because there's no reason why he's going.
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: He had two snaps and one of the snaps he
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: got forty forty one forty two yards. So it's like
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: it's hard, it's it's hard to see. But you know
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: he's looking as you looking forward to Sunday, and I
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: think he I think we can take the sale, mister
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: BISTI I think we can take him. Okay, I don't
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: all right, yeah, thanks for shot. I mean not all.
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: If you watch that offense, you should should have at
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: least some kind of hope. I mean, they were they
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: were as an effective Although it does sound like Nagi
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: Harris's is gonna play we'll see all. Their offense was
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: one of I think the two in the AFC that
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: was worse than yours on Sunday. So there's that, and
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: you knows the Patriots also didn't really bust out on
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: any of the trick plays. There was a little bit
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: of that with Pittsburgh too, like you know, just teams
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: trying to manufactu your yards back in like two thousand
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: and seven Anthony Smith. But sneaky there by Paul though,
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: he's already set it up if the Patriots defense stops
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: Pittsburgh while their offense is worse than yours, so he's
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: already playing the long game. Set that out. Did I
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: have to set that up? Or did they? Did? They
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: have five turnovers that they created the other day and
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: still always scored third top But if if I'm doing
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: Pittsburgh Radio, I'm saying, if we don't have those turnovers,
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: we're a good offense Pittsburgh. Yeah, No, no, No, they
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: created the turnovers. They didn't turn the ball over all right,
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: Cincinnati turned it over. That's the only way they scored
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: was because Cincinnati turned it over five times. Well, how
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: do you know that? Because I watched the gate? No
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: I know, but like, how do you know they wouldn't
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: have scored other ways as they had off like, well,
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: let's than two hundred yards of offense. I know most
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: people don't think that. Were they always starting on a
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: short field because of the turnovers? No, they didn't get
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: to the end zone. I mean, you know, five turnovers,
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: a lot of turnovers. I know to only score at thirteen,
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: it's on. Uh Williams and pellam, what's up William Hey?
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: What's going on for it? How are you going? Good?
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: Oh man? What a what a game? Huh? The game?
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: Could think it's the first week we get it out
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: of our system. They won't even remember it. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: I'm trying to trust me. I forgot about it just
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: that like, um so um, you were talking about the
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: team being uh there what they were being thought or something?
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: He was saying that you hear it one more time?
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: Well last year last year, I forget who it was.
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: And it was probably more than one opponent saying that
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: the Patriots are easy to defend. Okay, so so let
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: me get you a little push back. Why do you
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: think that they say that for it because we were
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: easy to defend? Because like, why do you think the
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: easy to defend? He's too well, it could it's nothing
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: they saw or no player pressure stress. I think William's
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: going to go to players, and I'm going to agree
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: with him. Yeah, exactly, it's the same thing. You're gonna see,
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: the same thing you're gonna look stark, no playmakers defense
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: or offense. It's like you can't even argue more. It's
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: like the Belichick line talking to Brady and O nine
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: and all we have is Moss over the top and
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: welcome underneath. They slammed down on that. We have no
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: we have no options because they had no players. Who's
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: this who's the who's the star receiver that's going to
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: like welcome and Moss this team? Well, that shows you,
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: how that shows you how different it is now, how
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: much easier it is now because you didn't have Brad, Brady,
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: Welcoer and Moss right exactly when no star corners. No,
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: I mean, look at it. The offensive line is struggling.
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: That's why Mac is looking the way he's looking, right.
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: I can't. I'll put some of that on Mac though,
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: but it stuff the offensive line. If he's not protected,
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: how he's on me to books? So um, you know,
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: I'll leave it at Dad. Gentleman, y'all take care and
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: go back. All right, Well, yeah, that's what I think
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: I'm worried about, is that is this now McDaniels was
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: able to make a serviceable offense because he's a brilliant
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: offensive coordinator and knows how to sequence plays and adjust
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: and work in trip plays and all that stuff. My
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: worry is, now are we seeing somebody who doesn't quite
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: know how to do that? So now your lack of
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: weapons is getting even more exposed because you're not able
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: to rely on your playbook. And I would even take
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: it a step further and wonder if Josh by the
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: end of the year last year, to Fred's um repeated
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: quote about being easy to defend, maybe Josh had run
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: out of That's why that's why he targeted Davanta Adam
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: seventeen times. And maybe he had just run out of
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: things to do last year. And that's why, you know,
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: a lot of creative ideas to keep this thing going right.
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: All right, we're gonna take a break. But you know
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: what I'm It's early in the season, so I'm not
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: tired something like that. That's a bad segue. But Bridstone

- 1:16:18Speaker 1: cut right through a hole across the thirty, carrying a
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: defender out to the thirty five yard line. A nice
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: cut in her first down run with some powers. Well,
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: now the Pats have a third and goal to go
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: from the sixth down seventeen nothing. Myers slots left his
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: side of Agile or Parker split to the right, Montgomery
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: in the Backgrood of the right of Joe. Matt stops
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: the right, flip, takes the snap, drop him back. He's
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: got Montgomery alone to the right. He loses his balance.
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: He rolls into the end zone. Touchdown. Patriots forty nine
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: yard field goal try by Sanders from the far hatch.
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: Jason Sanders, the veteran Dolphin kicker out of sim out
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: of New Mexico. The snap from Blake Ferguson on its
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: way held by Moorstead. They kicked sailing to the uprights
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: and Matt kick is cooking, hooking, hooklo but it stays
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: just inside. It's good for the Dolphins. Now you got
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: Born in the game, Hedrick Born. He need an absent.
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: You're out the first half and change. Eigh white socks,
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: red shoes, white gloves, lined up outside of the left
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: first and ten staff to Jones dropping back. He's thrown
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: toward Burn down the left side. He's got separatioikes to
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: catch after forty five and he has get out of
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: bouts at the forty one of Miami first legs snap
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: it back to Jones. Took Montgomery to his lust two receivers.
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: Right as Matt dropped back, he looks across the little
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: catch by Aglare. He's hitting out on the ball Popery
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: and now scrambled from the loose ball Dolphins cabin, but
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: wasn't a catch away anyone. The ball in and out
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: of Aglore his hands on the contact. Alison is trying
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: to wrestle it away. The early wild of the catch
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: bumble and covered by the defense. First out the Dolphins
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: to line up again, not a victory formation. After kneel
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: down by Tunga Byela, He's got river creat craft behind
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: him just in case. He will drop to the knee
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: one more time and the Dolphins have their fourth straight
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: win over the Patriots. It's a season opening victory for
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: Mike McDaniel in his first game as an NFL head
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: coach at the expense of Bill Belichick and the padres
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: in Belichick four hundred and thirty fourth kade as an
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: NFL and head coach. Sloppy performance by the Patriots, three
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: turnovers and they lose by two scores, twenty to seven
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: here in South Florida. All right, that's the Matt Morrel mashup,
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: six minutes of making the best of what we could,
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: making lemonade, lemonade out of lemons. Let's see eight five
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: five past five hundred is the eight ticket hutline web
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: radio at Patriots dot com. It's the email address. It's
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: due Aallex, Paul, myself, Matt and the booth. John and
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: Lando Lakes writes in about Matt. He says Mac was
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: fine protect him. Any shortcomings stem from the old line.
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: If the checkdown as opposed to a loss, maybe, and
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: I don't know what that means. The play didn't have
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: time to develop. I don't know which play he's talking about, right,
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: but anyway, anyway, he says, it's all about the old line.
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: I would say the offensive line is a bigger issue
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: than the quarterback. But those that are going to continue
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: to ignore the fact that the quarterback isn't playing well
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: are going to be missing the point because and hasn't
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: played well for a while. No, and I, this is
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: the one thing that we predicted, and it's only one week,
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: small sample size, but it's come through. It's been at
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: one accurate. No matter how bad they are offensively, the
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: heat's not going to go on Mac. It's going to
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: go on Bill and the idea to put Patricia and Judge.
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: I don't think that was a huge problem on Sunday.
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: I don't think the play calling. I you know, what
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: are the calls that I disagreed with? Yep, just like
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: I always had one or two that I disagree with Josh.
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: I didn't like the third and three run up the middle,
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: even though I looked at you before that play and
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: I said, two down territory, here comes a run, right, um.
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: But I didn't love that call. I didn't. I've already
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: been on record saying I didn't love the decision to
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: challenge Zavian Howard on the first drive. But I don't
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: think that was an issue. Do you do you think
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: play calling, specifically what they did was an issue. I didn't.
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: I think it's an easy thing. It's an easy thing
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: to fix on, fix it on because of the unconventional
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: thing they did. Mac Jones didn't play for I mean,
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: the one play that everyone looked at was that I
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: think it was third and three or fourth and three,
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: and they ran it into the line. If you get
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: with third and three, yea when hosts aren't listening, I know.
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: But other than that, like even that, even that one,
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: I was I got it. I know, I know what
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: they were doing. Like they said before that play, it's
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: third and three from the fifty yard line. If we
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: don't get it, we're going for it. So what would
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: you rather have happened? Take a shot and make it
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: fourth and one. That's a failure, right, Or if I
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: have any complete pass, now it's fourth and three. Now
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: they get stuffed for for nothing, right, Like you can't
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: have a running play in that situation that gets stopped
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: from no game that wasn't third and seven. I don't
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: know that that one really didn't people seem fixated on.
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: I don't know. Yeah, I didn't like the call, only
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: because I don't think that the sole goal right there
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: is moving the chains. I think you got to find
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: a way to get in the end zone and as
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: quickly as possible. That's why I didn't like the call.
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: But let's just say it was twenty to seventeen at
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: that time, I wouldn't have hated that call, Alex, and
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: Philly says, Unfortunately, Fred, it looks like this offense is
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: still easy to defend. No one gets separation, every catch
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: is contested. No speed, nothing explosive, nothing dynamic. There isn't
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: a single person that makes something happen without scheming it. Now.
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: I know you're gonna say it's just one game, but
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: it's not. We've been saying the same thing about the
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: offense since twenty nineteen, Brady's last year. Even though I
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: don't like the OC process, I don't believe play calling
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: is the biggest issue. It's the roster. It doesn't matter
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: what plays you call if you don't have guys you
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: can make a difference. The Patriots don't have those guys.
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: Next year, the Patriots have cap space and most likely
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: a top five pick, So next year they should have
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: a new coach and GM time to get off this
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: hamster wheel of mediocrity. I mean, I agree with a
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: lot of what he said earlier on though. I mean,
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: that's you know, it's it looks the same. It looks
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: the same as the offense last year, regardless of all
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: these like scheme changes and play calling changes and all that.
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: I mean, it's just, you know, everything is kind of
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: a grind right now, and they still haven't found that
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: speed that they were looking to install this year. Sulman
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: in the Bay Area. He says, I'm not overreacting to
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: a loss as its week one, but I do want
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: to talk about curious play calling on the goal to
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: go situation in the second half. On first and goal,
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: it was an underneath pass to Harris, Then second and goal,
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: it was an underneath pass to Harris on third and goal,
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: and underneath past to Montgomery who needed to roll into
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: the end zone for a touchdown. Why three straight underneath
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: passes to running backs in this situation? Why not take
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: a shot with a pass in the end zone? That
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: was confusing to me, even though they scored, So who
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: are you criticizing? Well, the last one to Montgomery could
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: have been like, oh, this guy fell down. I'm gonna
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: go to d like, where is the criticism on that.
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: I'm just curious because I would criticize the quarterback for that,
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: because don't tell me that all three of those plays
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: was supposed to be quick throws to the flat. Yeah
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: that's possible. Yeah, those the guys open. I mean, you know,
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: I'd be worth a look at the all twenty two
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: see if he goes through a progression, if their other
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: potential that my first album one makes sense. You know,
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: I forget exactly where they were on the field, but
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: you have a chance, maybe the eight yard line. I
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: think you have a chance to to get get the ball.
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: I think it was Stevenson that they were throwing too
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: and it got battered at the line. That's a chance
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: to get the ball in space to a guy who's
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: tough to bring down. In that situation, I can set
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: up you know, second and goal from the three or
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: something like that. Now it gets batted down to get nothing.
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: But I don't think that they said, no, we're just
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: gonna throw three passes in the flag. This is what
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: we want to do and eventually we'll get one in
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: the end zone. I don't think that was the design
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: of those three plays. I think, you know, getting back
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: to the pass protection. I think that's on Mac's mind
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: right now, and that's why maybe some of the throws
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: are coming out as quickly as they are, because he's
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: not allowing anything else to happen. Cole and Eugene Oregon
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: says Mac was bad against the Dolphins. I was frustrated
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: by his inability to hit open receivers, how long it
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: takes his passes to reach receivers when they are open,
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: and some of the decisions he made. Here were a
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: couple bad plays that stood out to me. The failed
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: scene passed to Hunter Henry was horrific. It was a
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: bad throw to a well covered receiver. The interception to
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: Parker was underthrown. He's supposed to throw it where only
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: his receiver could make the catch in the back corner
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: of the end zone. He missed the receiver streaking down
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: the sideline before the forty yard passed or Bourne. There
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: are plenty more bats are to the Year two jump
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: I was hoping for. I felt the Patriots offense was
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: limited by max ability. I think he'll be better this
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: week and we'll get the W against the Pittsburgh Stinkers.
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: Good He's gonna have to He's gonna have to earn it.
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: I mean, I think if they, if they could, you know,
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: move the ball and string some stuff together and protect
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: Mac and give us some time, albeit without t J. Watt.
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: And you'll hear that as a response, I'm sure. But
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: it's still at this point, like I'd take it against
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: Foxboro High School and it's still to go out participate.
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: This is still a good defense, Like I think Watt is,
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: you know, the special player. But it's not like Pittsburgh
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: has left without any any personnel on defense. Phones are
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: stacked up eight five five, Pats five hundred. Let's go
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: to Sean and Vancouver. What's up Sean? Hey? Everyone? Well, yeah,
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: I don't think Matt Jones had a good game. And
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: you know, honestly, I'm not surprised that the Patriots lost
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: in Miami. What happens. But I want to look at
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: what I'm expecting of what I'm hoping for against Pittsburgh.
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: There's a few things we've talked about, or we've talked
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: about that the Patriots tried and just didn't do enough of,
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: like Harris getting more carries, Born having more downfield targets,
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: about more than one Jonah Smith getting the ball in space.
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: And also maybe you haven't mentioned, but Montgomery placed the outside,
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: not running up the middle. I'd like to see them
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: try that against Pittsburgh on Sunday. All right, yeah, thanks.
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: I mean they tried to run outside a lot in
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: this game, I thought, with very mixed results. I thought
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: the Stevenson stuff that you were talking about earlier, I think, yeah, yeah,
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: and I think they had Yeah, they had a hard
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: time I thought, consistently getting those plays. You know, I
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: don't I don't know that they need to run outside
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: more with Montgomery or anybody else. Um the other stuff.
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: I'd like to see a little bit more um diversity
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: to the passing game in terms of depth, like you
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: talk about Mike that intermediate depth. Yeah, as I think
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: right now, it seems like you just stack the line
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: and you know, like don't let them run, don't let
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: them get the little dump offs. It's fine, and just
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: you know, when they take the shots, be ready for him.
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: But there's just it's just so what's weird about watching
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: the other games is too, is that you know, you
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: just you realize you've gotten used to watching this Patriots
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: offense and then it's kind of striking at times when
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: you see teams throwing like a fifteen yard dig down
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: field and the guy catches it and runs and they're like,
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: we don't see a lot of that, And you know
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: what it is, in my opinion, like people think like, well,
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: you gotta throw it deep, but that takes too long. No,
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: Like they throw it short and they throw it deep
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: because those are the quickest passes to get rid of.
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: And you look at all the deep balls on Sunday
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: and they threw a handful of them, you know, the
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: Parker one that got picked, the one to agg Aalod,
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: the one to Born. Those are like catch, throw it up,
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: you know, the one that Myers caught, the contested one
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: that Myers caught. There's no like that. That ball's coming
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: out before three seconds. I'll guarantee of that. Yeah. But
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: the intermediate stuff that takes time to develop. You're crossing
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: the field, you're you know, maybe you're you know, looking
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: to get one guy underneath, one guy down the seam.
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: Those are kind of like the route concepts that take
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: some time. And we talk about that all the time
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: during seven on sevens and you're like, oh, I don't know,
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: I'm not sure that one would have worked the same
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: way with a rush. I think that's part of it is.
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: I think Mac has I think, at least right now,
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: Mac is more concerned with the pass rush than anything else.
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: Let's go to Sameir in Maine. What's up, Samir? Samir?
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: Are you calling Hardy? Yes? Yes, good Joby. That's fun.
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: I was listening and every time that everywhere I know,
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: Fred's chuckle yes, and you were that's the best part. Yeah.
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: What you should have done was sent to selfie. It
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: was just you're so philosophically opposted the selfie, you wouldn't
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: do it. He should charge me, Rent, I'm in his head.
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: That's all he's thinking about now. H CD is in
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: winter Park floor. What's up CD? Oh man, Hey guys,
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: big fans of all of you, Thank you taking my call.
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: Thank you. So my question is um with I thought
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: the first drive of the game, I looked really good.
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: I thought Mac looked comfortable. We moved the ball well. Unfortunately,
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: you know it ended with that tip ball in the
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: interception in the end zone. And then coming out of
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: the halftime third quarter again another great drive, moving the
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: ball down well. But it seems like when they have
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: the time to pre plan those drives. At the beginning
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: of the first quarter, beginning of the third quarter, you know,
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: they looked good. And I thought, especially the first drive,
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: Mac kind of looked comfortable, looked better than last year.
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: I was. I was really happy how we started out
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: of the gate. Um, I'm gonna take this as a
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: sample size and I'm just gonna look at it throughout
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: the year. But I think, um, and i'd love your
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: guy is his thought, Um, Matt Patricia doing too much.
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: I don't think the O line's up to par. I
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: think we need to get that settled in UM. And
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: the play calling, I agree with Paul, I think you said,
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: you know, I don't. I don't think the play calls
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: was not necessarily that bad, but maybe that's taking away
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: from some of his O line duties. What are your thoughts? Yeah,
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: he was asked about that today. I mean, I think
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: that's a you know, it's a it's a good question.
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: I mean, I mean, it's it's easy to pile on
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: Matt Patricia for you know, what he has or hasn't
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: done well in the past, and you know, but I
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: still just think if you take his side for a minute,
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: there is a lot on him, and especially when we're
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: talking so much about the offensive line and the issues there.
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: I mean, he's got his hands heavily in both of
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: the biggest kind of issues facing the officie. A lot
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: of times, a lot, I've seen the OC be the
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: quarterbacks coach, you know, or the head coach b the OC.
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: How often had OC's also been another position coach other
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: than quarterback. It's a great question. I mean, I would
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: have specifically offensive line because I've never seen that. Yeah,
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: and then I all of a sudden, Florida State, I
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: sent you the clip. I was like that one hand
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: be done. I've never heard of an offensive line coach
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: being the offensive coordinator. Yeah, until now. Mike writes in
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: from Brooklyn. I watched the game yesterday. I could only
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: listen and get the replay where I am, and I
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: thought it looked much better than the announcers and you
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: guys made it sound. I thought the offense looked good
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: for most of the first half. I agree with Paul
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: one hundred percent. The Parker play was a whole, but
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: shouldn't have been thrown there anyway. In my mind, if
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: they put Howard on Parker, the Patriots should be looking
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: at their other two ride receivers who are better than
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: Parker and drawing Worth cornerbacks. I thought they ran the
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: ball well more often they were then they were bottled up,
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: and I thought the defense looked really good except in
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: the tackling on one play. I think the offseason investment
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: and speed really paid off. Miami kept trying lateral motions
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: and outside quick throws to test the speed of the
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: Patriots defense to the perimeter, and Dugger, Bentley, and Wilson
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: all seemed to respond well. Just three or four plays
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: made the difference, and I think Matt got noticeably less
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: accurate and lost even more power than he already lacks
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: on his throws somewhere late in the third, which I
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: figured is when he heard his back if he had
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: to be discouraged by. One thing is that this team
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: isn't talented enough to make three or four crucial mistakes
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: and still win. But I think they can play clean
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: and get a few bounces Miami recovered. I think three
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: of their own fumbles. They should be in it again
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: against all but the best teams. Where am I wrong?
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: But that's I mean, okay, But I just don't know
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: like how you can have so much optimism of what
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: they did offensively. He's not alone either. There's a lot
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: of people that think that they you know, I thought
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: that they had a really good first drive. Like I
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: don't know where the excitement is on the offense. Yeah,
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: justin from you. I mean, we could talk about it.
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: We don't have to just just I'm looking at the
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: drive chart that like. And again I'm not picking it Bill,
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: but I'm using Bill's words because I think a lot
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: of people have taken what Bill said and they're saying, yeah, yeah,
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: they moved the ball. They got inside the Miami forty
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: yard line twice in the entire game, twice, Like that's
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: the goal is to get around midfield. Like they had
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: more than two first downs on a possession twice in
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: the entire game. Said two drives four. They got four
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: first downs on the first possession. They got seven first
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: downs on the first possession of the second half. Otherwise
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: it was two zero. I won't count the kneel down
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: at the end of the half. One zero in two. Miami,
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: which the defense played great, evidently had three first downs,
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: three first downs, four first downs right out of the
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: shoot first four verse three times that they had the ball.
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: Then they got stopped for three and out the first
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: drive of the second half when probably got away with
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: a penalty on the third downplay, but big three and out,
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: seventeen nothing. You gotta get a three and out. They
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: got it. But then again the next time they get
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: the ball, three first downs field goal after you screw
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: a touchdown, Now I need the ball back again, three
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: first downs field goal. And then the end of the game,
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: they had four first downs to melt the clock. Now
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: I agree with Fred on the last drive. I think
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: the ag a little fumble. I think that was it.
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: You know, the Patriots said, yeah, we don't have enough time,
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: so I'm not going to kill him for the last drive. Yeah,
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: that is one thing I think, And I mean, I
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: think I definitely feel a little bit like Fred to
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: feel some positivity about just some of the defensive pieces.
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: But the concerning part to me situationally, and I think
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: that's been a concern the last couple of seasons, and
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: you know, the end of the half touchdown saw that
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: a couple of years. Over the last couple of years,
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: the inability to get that last stop to give them
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: a chance to get back and you want to say,
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: like you want to tell me the strip sack. Yeah,
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: you know, okay, they missed they missed a guy, they
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: missed a blitzer, they didn't pick him up. It's a
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: bad play. They missed it. That's not something that's going
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: to happen every game. Like there was nothing. Like there
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: was a fourth and seven and they said, we're gonna
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: go for this because if we don't get it, we
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: don't think you're gonna move the ball enough to get
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: a field goal at the end of the half. And
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: that was just we didn't do anything special. We just
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: lined up and ran a slant and you know, at
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: the very least you were going to get the I mean,
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: it's gonna be a fifteen yard game minimum. He caught it,
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: you know, twelve fifteen yards downfield. Oh, it was well
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: beyond the first down. It wasn't like a five yard pass.
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: It was well passed the first down. So they're gonna
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: get a field goal on that drive anyway. But everybody's
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: talking about that play like, well, you know, it's just
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: you know Fluke, you know, it's kind of like it's
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: it's like the David Tyree catch, And I'm just like
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: there was nothing flukey about it. And here's another thing
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: that bugs me. Do you remember in the Raiders preseason
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: game when Stidham was in the game early and they
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: threw like a seam route wide open to the tight
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: end Kyle Duggery. Yeah, everybody on Twitter was telling me, Yeah,
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: it's preseason. We're not we're not game planning. We're not
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: gonna have Kyle Dugger in that situation where he's out
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: of position and missing the tackle until the first game
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: comes and Adrian Phillips gets hurt and Kyle Dugger is
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: the guy doing that and Devin mccordy's covering the back
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: in the flat. So you are like, these things are
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: gonna come up from time to time. And I think
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: Kyle Dugger had a really solid game that was marred
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: by one really bad play as a result, He's tough.
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: I mean, this is year three for him. You know,
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: if people really want him, you don't like him as
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: much as all. I just I want him to be better.
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: And I think like everyone's like he's going to be
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: a star. I'm like, well, we're in your three, Like
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: this is the time for him to be a star.
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: And stopped making these kinds of stars, And I agree
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: with Mike on that, Like, if you're a star, you're
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: probably going to be a star bye by now. I mean,
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: what about him makes you think that he's going to
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: be be here passed lot next year? Like, I mean,
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: they got plenty of safeties they roll right through. Do
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: you think Josh Bledsoe is really that much of a
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: drop off to to what Dugger really was? I don't know.
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: He does not like Dugger as much as I do.
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: That might be a first on this show that I
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: like a Patriots player more than you. He's not perfect,
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: so you don't like because I like a lot of
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: Patriots players, but do like hearts a lot of Patriots? Well,
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: I just think that you got you have seven strong
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: safeties on the team, Like what special about Probably your
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: best one is Dugger. Probably I would go with Adrian Phillips,
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: Mich go Adrian Phillips, Philip, But either way, it's a debate.
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: And you know that's I think Adrian Phillips is much
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: more effective as a two way safety. What a pepper
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: he can cover not a lot. He came in more
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: when when Phillips went down him and seemed like he
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: was Wilson down not so much party too, and your
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: guy oushe he didn't do much now that that, But
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: that's another one to Mike's point about like, yeah, he's
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: superstar in the Yeah by year three, if you're going
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: to be a star, you've definitely like shown that. Yeah,
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: you've you've shown flashes of stardom. And I don't think
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: I've seen that from Mouche And I didn't see much
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: from him the other day Johnny and Jason, did I
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: miss that? No? No, I mean you guys you know,
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: I mean, Alex, I'm not sure if you know, but
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: Mike and Evan watched the tape. I just have. I
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: haven't watched the tape yet, but I mean, you know,
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: just serious question though, Like I mean, let's take Mac
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: out of the conversation because I don't want to like
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: make this referendum referendum on him. But you know, like
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: how many guys right now on offense do you feel
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: like our locks to be on this team past next year?
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: You know, like that's an excellent question then like cold strange,
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: I mean, I think I think cold strange. Let's let's
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: take the lineman out of it. But like every skill
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: position guys like Stevenson's a lock, Max a lock like
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: but wide receivers. Yeah, I don't know that you can
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: call anybody a lock. I mean i'd like to, I'd
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: like to Thornton, but he's one. Yeah, but I mean,
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: you know, even to change the question a little bit,
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: like who do you think would deserves a second contract
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: right now? Like I think Jacobe Myers, I would give
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: him a second contract right now. Do you think we'll
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: get it? I have no idea. I have no idea,
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: and I think it's very possible that he doesn't. Speaking
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: of while I thought just came to me, if Thornton
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: hadn't gotten hurt, would Burn have been in act or cut?
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: Like I'll give you right now and listen, I'm gonna
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: be really anxious. I was. I was trying really hard
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: to save this take till after Sunday because I do
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: sing out. I have such a big mouth, and I
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: can't help myself. I do have the you know, the
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: fear for putting this out there that all of a
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: sudden he's getting like you know, eleven targets on Sunday.
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: You know, they're just like, all right, we proved the point.
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: We need back if not, if he's like a bit
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: part of the game plan. Again, I think he's a
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: real candidate to get moved before the trade deadline. I mean,
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: I think you could get I think you could get
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: some interest in him from someone who, you know, Keenan
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: Allen pulled a hamstring week one. He's gonna be like
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: someone that thinks they're pretty good. Yeah, we'll probably need
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: a receiver, Godwin, they pulled the hamstring. Yeah, I mean
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: even I mean, I don't want to say Miami, but
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: you know, like San Francisco Roots, they know, they're familiar
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: with Kendrick Bourne. A little bit. Somebody gets hurt. He's
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: had some experience with that. Now again, it's one game
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: and that all of a sudden, We've seen it a
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: million times, Fred, you and you and me look like,
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: well that guy didn't do anything last week, and all
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: of a sudden he's getting like passes thrown to him
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: like eight times in the first two series where they
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: say like I'm gonna force feed him, you know, right
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: game involved right away. Maybe that's still coming. Johnny in Wisconsin.
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: This game, this game to me, was decided on the
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: first drive. Parker goes into the end zone, as planned that.
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: What wasn't planned is the past interference that wasn't called
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: leading to the pick. Hard to come back from that. Mentally,
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: the letdown was real really, like I think it was
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: a penalty. I mean, if it's hard to come back, right,
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: penalty not getting fifty five minutes, It truly is hard
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: to come back from that. Then your team stink, especially
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: with how good that drive was, Like you should be
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: able to just live with that. That's bad play. Yeah,
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: you know in retrospect, you know what, I think they
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: thought we ain't gonna put too many more of those together,
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: so we needed that one. Having said that, to me,
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: this game could have easily been fourteen fourteen at the
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: end of regulation if Wattle doesn't get the disgusting fourth
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: down touchdown. Why are we just eliminating that play? Like,
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: tell me what was out of the ordinary on that
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: play and I'll eliminate it. I have faith this team
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: can beat Pittsburgh, not only defensively but offensively also without
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: Why always works out for the Patriots, right, Paul, Well,
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: I just don't understand, like why we were eliminating the
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: Waddle play. No, it's a terrible play. Like if you
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: eliminate the sky like no, I will tell you, like
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: the play that Tyreek Hill makes with Jack Jones, that's
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: not something that Miami can rely on. Like he takes
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: the ball away from Jack Jones and makes a big
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: play out of it. That drive ended up in a
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: field goal. If you want to make the argument, if
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: you take away that flukey catch and then that's three
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: points that that I can understand. Tell me what happened
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: on the Jalen Wattle play that Miami's supposed to apologize
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: for that touchdown? It was flukey, But like, what was flukey?
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: That's what I'm asking the breakdown at the end of
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: the half, But what was flukey about it? They don't
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: usually do that. Okay, but Mike has just told you.
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: He's given you a couple of examples of other times
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: that it has happened. Right when Dugger miss and tackles
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: Yeah in space bad angle. I'm looking at this screen
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: right now. This justin Tommy Kerran reporting Patricia's upset with
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: Kendrick Born after a missed preseason meeting. But that's it.
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: That took a while to get out there. No, but okay,
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: so the gloves are out, you know, So find them,
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: you know, you know, or whatever. Okay, can we talk
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: about something then if that's out there or should we
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: just keep that a lid. Well, I don't know. It's
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: the first I've heard of this. Yeah, so it's not
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: out there yet. Then no, I've never heard that before.
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: So why I'm told that he was late to a
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: meeting the day of the Carolina game. That's why he
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: didn't play in that Carolina Okay, I can't believe that
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: that's it. And that's zero point zero percent chance that
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: that's it, right, that's what I Yeah. So that's the thing.
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: That's where I agree with Mike Greece. You don't know everything,
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: you know. I mean, I'm that probably happened, but that's it. Oh, no,
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: that happened. Yeah, I have a source that talk. Okay,
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: I'm very comfortable in myself. Fine, so you sit him
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: for Carolina and now, okay, we're done because of what Right,
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: it feels too much and that's you know, you talked
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: about Fred, you know, losing the team. But it's just,
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: you know, I feel like players feel like a player
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: is being unfairly punished that you know, you're not establishing
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: what the expectations are and then what the consequences are
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: going to be and all right, so how long? Well
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: I mess up a lot of these guys and I
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: always go back to, uh, what's his name? The speed
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: Burner we used to have a long time ago, Philip
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: Tim Dwight. No, Uh, he was Bethel Justin Bethel Johnson,
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: Bethel Johnson, Bethel just some guys that they're fine until
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: you discipline them and then their pride kicks in and
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: then it's like a snowball. Yeah, they can never say like, Okay,
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: my bad. Some guys can't say that they right. And
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: he could be one of those guys that it just
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: it's now it's getting worse, that's getting could be that
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: he's got some it's just like yeah, yeah, you pride,
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: you know, like how dare you make me feel? You know,
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: call me out in front of these And we talked
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: about this live during the practices, right, and we said,
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: like it's another day. We haven't seen a lot of
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: catches for Kendrick Boyne, right, and we started to backtrack.
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: Remember when we did it that day when you know
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: Evan was on I think with us, Alex, I know
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: you were there and we were talking about go all
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: the way back to the offseason when he's riding around
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: in a car. It's some charity event with Mike Reis
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: and he's telling them all about the changes to the offense.
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: To that point, there was speculation that there was streamlining
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: quote unquote, that was the word that was always used.
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: There's streamlining the offense and trying to simplify some things.
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: And we all, I know, Fred, you and I were
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: lockstep and saying it's the same system. They're just gonna
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: change some things around and blah blah blah blah blah.
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: Then Kendrick Boyne said they're changing things and no one's
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: certain terms. That was the first anybody was on record
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: saying Patriot right, and Alex five feet away, you didn't
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: realize history in the making, right. That was the first
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: time anybody with the Patriots was on record saying, yes,
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: we're going to acknowledge it, Yes we're changing and they
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: and I don't think they liked it. Right. He probably
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: got talked to about that, and that might have been
- 1:46:22Speaker 1: another thing, for sure. That was the first thing. That
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: might have been another thing. And it's like, you know,
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: and then I'm late for a meeting because I'm pissed.
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: You know, he might be one of those guys that
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: like he's great until you you tell him you're wrong.
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: And I'm told that he was late for that meeting.
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: That's the day after he got in a fight at well,
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: two days after you got in a fight at practice. Um,
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: you know, shortly after he was taken out of the
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: offense by the official because some kind of equipment thing
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: didn't have the kneepads properly or whatever. It was too.
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: So like you going, like you start to stack these
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: things up, and all of a sudden he shows up late.
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: He didn't miss the meeting. From what I'm told, he
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: was late for a meeting. And I believe it was
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: the Thursday whatever, the game Friday, Friday. It was a
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: Friday game. Yeah, it was the day of the game.
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: I think to the game day. Okay, Carolina was the
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: first game. Those things stack up, you know, Yeah, I
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: can't we can't rely on you. But now now if
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: that's if that's right, um, if that's like the you know,
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: the reason and whatever, I would say, Well, to Mike's point,
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: how long is enough or does he continue to be
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: belligerent about it? That's right? Right? And again I'm going
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: to fall back on if he has. I don't think
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: his teammates are clamoring for his return. Yeah, Like, if
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: I know that Mike is going to Fred's, you know,
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: continue to say like, no, I don't I can't believe
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: you're making me do this. I don't want to do it. No,
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: I'm not going to do it. Make someone else do it.
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: I'm not saying, Fred, why is Mike not traveling to
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: the game this week? Because I know what Mike, Mike's
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: doing to you. Yeah, yeah, do you know what I mean? Well,
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: I don't know. Maybe some of the players are like
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: I don't know why he's not playing. Maybe that's sort
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: of like a asked the coaches thing, you know, like
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: I'm not going to get into it. That is one
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: of those things. I just Mike, did you see any
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: of this stuff? Because I think it was I think
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: it was like Karen Reese Perry, that kind of triumvirate
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: had sort of you know, talking to some players, there's
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: some confusion as to why he's not playing, and you know,
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: they think he should be a bigger part of the
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: game plans and whatnot. And again, the way that Karen's
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: posing this Patricia is upset with him. Yeah. That interesting.
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: So when you're already sort of wondering why why as
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: my defensive coordinator running the offense, and then Patricia's the
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: one that's sort of deemphasizing Kendrick Bourne. I could understand
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: players saying, what are we doing? Maybe he wasn't sitting
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: up Mike the mic do so palms in the air?
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: What want he wasn't sitting up straight. Maybe in the
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: met too, That's that's a bugaboo too from medp Oh, Yeah,
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: let's go to back to the phone. Zackson fall River, Hey, Zach,
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: as it going guys? Um? Can you guys say yes? Yeah, okay?
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: You know, I don't see I don't think we're talking
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: about this enough, you know. I remember Robert Craft had
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: made a statement saying how during the offseason that he
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: acknowledges that the Patriots haven't drafted well in recent years,
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: which was the reason why they had to spend so
- 1:49:36Speaker 1: much money. And he also acknowledged in the off season
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: that it was very upsetting to him that the Patriots
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: talent won a playoff game a few years And I
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: would argue that the talent we have now on offense
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: is better than some of the talent that Brady had
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: to work with. But he he was still winning super
- 1:49:59Speaker 1: Bowls that last year when we won a Super Bowl
- 1:50:02Speaker 1: with the Rams, who did we have outside of a
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: broken down Edelman and a broken down Growth And we
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: were still a top ten offense that year. I mean,
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: I just can't. I don't understand why we can't get
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: it done with Hunter, Henry, Jonald Smith and all these
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: other guys we have. Yeah, see, I kind of agree
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: with you. I think they've got their underachieving. Yeah, they
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: are underachieving. Okay, So here's what I'm gonna say, Like,
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: do you think that they had a top ten offense
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: in twenty nineteen? No, okay, because they had a top
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: top ten offense last year too. And the point if
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: you yeah, if you want to tell me about the
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: stat like just like their defense was like second in
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: the league. Yeah, but we know they weren't. But the
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: thing about that is we know because we know, but
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: I'm saying the last year, but last year's stats were
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: skewed by a couple of games where they blistered some
- 1:50:52Speaker 1: really bad teams. You know, you have to look at that.
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: That's why you know football statistics could be very deceiving,
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: mainly because there's only you know, now, seventeen games. You know,
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: there's only say, like if in a baseball seas two
- 1:51:08Speaker 1: out of seventeen makes a big difference, and you get
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: the Jets twice, that makes That's what I'm saying, excuse you,
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: and they blister Jacksonville and they blistered the Jets, and
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: so they're you know, there's there's stats rows on offense,
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: but we know looking at it, especially down down the stretch,
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: that they weren't that good. They weren't that good. I
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: I think, you know, last year, I I stacked it
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: up to it's match. First year, they're dumbing it down.
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: They're up, you know, John Smith, I think I think
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: that these guys that they have on offense are underachieving
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: for whatever reason. I don't know why, whether it's the
- 1:51:46Speaker 1: coaching or MAC or whatever. I think that they're okay,
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: they're they're I think if you had Tom Brady with
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: this offense, oh, I mean that's but with these guys,
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: I gotta be very defensive of Mac here. That's not fair.
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: It's not fair. But I'm just saying that Tom Brady
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: wouldn't be complaining about the people around him. Well, he
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: probably would be, but that was Tom Brady. No, No,
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: he would also be excelling with the people. But I
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: think he'd be very happy with this crew, I really do.
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: I think they're pretty good. I don't know how good
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: they are, but he would certainly be getting a hell
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: of a lot more out of them than Mac Jones.
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: Is that's not fair to Mac Jones. No, it isn't.
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: It isn't. But I'm just saying, what, for whatever reason,
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: these guys are underachieving. I think they've got pieces on
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: offense to be good. I'm not saying, oh, seven good
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: or you know, name the season or name the other team,
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: you know, Kansas City good or Bill's good. But to
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: be good? Yeah, like like, I mean, I think Paul
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: said they had two drives five drives a game. You know,
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: you're scoring drives, You're you're going down four times five
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: times a game, moving the ball down the fields, sustained.
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: But I'm living in this world though right now. Of Like, well,
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: last year they had a really good offensive coordinator with
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: an established offense that clearly had a plan, and you know,
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: we felt like he got a lot out of Mac
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: as a rookie, but it still felt like the weapons
- 1:53:04Speaker 1: weren't quite what you were hoping for. And now you
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: know the point I made earlier, Now we don't really
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: even have that offensive structure. So you know, now Mac
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: doesn't even look like he's overachieving. He looks like he's
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: kind of stuck in neutral right now with where he's going. So,
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: you know, can it get better? Can they figure out
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: what they're good at and start to play into those
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: things and execute them? Well, I really, I really don't
- 1:53:26Speaker 1: know right now what's gonna transpire over the you know,
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: the coming weeks, and I'm going to That's the thing
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: that I keep coming back to is I think we
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: sometimes get a little heat because it sounds overly negative.
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: I can't tell you what's going to happen either, Mike.
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: I agree with you. I'm not telling you that there's
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: not a potential to improve. I'm pretty sure they will improve,
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: But I'm only telling you what has happened, and what
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: has happened hasn't been productive. Like I don't need like
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: I saw a game on Sunday that other people somehow
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: saw like diametrically differently than I did. Like I don't
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: think that they were close. I don't think that they.
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: I think if Miami had a couple of plays differently,
- 1:54:08Speaker 1: it would have been closer to forty to nothing. You know,
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: like maybe not getting a penalty on fourth and three,
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: which was you know or whatever, the fourth down play
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: that was very yeah, uh, Brandon Jones picking that pass
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: off and running it back and now you get two
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: defensive touchdowns. You know, like there was a lot of
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: different things that teams could go back and look and
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: say if this, if that. We used to make fun
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: of those teams because the Patriots always made those one
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: or two plays that decided games. Now Miami made them
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: on Sunday and the result really wasn't a close game.
- 1:54:41Speaker 1: It was a game that the Patriots never even had
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: the ball, like yeah, and they almost like it was
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: almost to that point you could almost get if you
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: had gotten a score on that last drive and you know,
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: just at least make Miami have a little bit of
- 1:54:53Speaker 1: pressure on them and have to pick up a first
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: down that you know that would have been But even
- 1:54:57Speaker 1: then it was five minutes left. It was you know,
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: like the Kendrick Bourne play happen in five minutes left.
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: They down thirteen points like you need a miracle. That's
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: a miracle win if you win that game, all right,
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: that's gonna be it for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered.
