- 0:48Welcome to Hobo, a Muppet quiz show brought to you by
- 0:52toughpigs.com. It's your favorite quiz show
- 0:56that's not like the others here. Muppet fans, Muppet
- 1:01Professionals, and everyone in between competes for fabulous
- 1:05prizes and to see who's this week's toughest pig.
- 1:10I'm your host, Becca Petunia of toughpigs.com.
- 1:14You know, as the host of the Internet's most popular Muppet
- 1:18Quiz Show podcast, people are always asking me a ton of
- 1:22questions. Questions.
- 1:24Like who are those two old guys in the balcony?
- 1:28And when did Cookie Monster stop being the Veggie Monster?
- 1:32And why won't you stop talking about Grover for one minute and
- 1:36let me go to sleep? But one question I don't get
- 1:41asked enough is what is the best question you've ever asked on
- 1:46Habala? So please can somebody ask me
- 1:50that? Hey, Becca.
- 1:54What's the best question you've ever asked on Havala?
- 1:57I'm so glad you asked me that question.
- 1:59Well, I think everybody knows that it's obviously the final
- 2:04question of the Just happy to Be then game from the Season 2
- 2:10Sesame Grab Bag episode. That's the one where I stumped
- 2:15both my guests and the entire Internet by asking about Betty
- 2:19Lou's interests. It went a little something like
- 2:23this. Their goldfish is Talbert, their
- 2:27best friends Luis. They love the xylophone and
- 2:29orange juice and baseball and overalls with lots of pockets,
- 2:32and their dream is to build a go Kart.
- 2:35I think this is going to be so someone we're not expecting and
- 2:40it's gonna be written. I mean that's clearly what I'm
- 2:42building up to. Yeah.
- 2:44Yeah, I'm I you cuz I also just you get the.
- 2:47I don't remember. This is like one of those ones
- 2:50that was written by some guy that never watched the show and
- 2:53it's just like like, OK, well, the only other clue I can give.
- 2:59Oh, Joe. OK, Farley, have we said Farley?
- 3:05If you haven't said far, I mean you guessed him, but he was
- 3:08wrong. But it also isn't Farley.
- 3:10It is not Farley. Final clue.
- 3:12They live at 456 Sesame Street. This is the last clue I can
- 3:18give. This is remarkable.
- 3:20We have exhausted the characters.
- 3:22Is it is it Dawn music. It is not great.
- 3:25Guess this is, I just it kind of a gog.
- 3:31I didn't think a Sesame Street trivia question could really
- 3:35leave me this. Well, I will tell you this
- 3:38character, ostensibly a well known character because
- 3:43literally I am looking right now at Sesame Street Merch that I
- 3:48have in my living room from the 80s and this character is on it.
- 3:53There's Ernie and Bert and Snuffy and Cookie Monster and
- 3:57Grover and Sherlock, Hemlock and Louise's best friend, Betty Lou.
- 4:08Well, of course, of course Betty Lou.
- 4:14Since then, I've considered Betty Lou to be the unofficial
- 4:18mascot of Habawa, which is kind of confusing since the almost
- 4:24identical Prairie Dawn is the unofficial mascot of my life.
- 4:29But I digress. Well, we had so much fun
- 4:33learning about Betty Lou that I think we can all agree that it's
- 4:37time to learn even more about her.
- 4:41So rather than ask one question about Betty Lou, folks, it's
- 4:45time for an entire episode about her.
- 4:49Are you serious? That's right.
- 4:53I've brought you here for an entire Sesame Street grab bag
- 4:57episode, inspired by the Life and Times of your friend and
- 5:01mine, Betty Lou. I will say this will make more
- 5:08sense as we keep going. Don't don't panic too much yet.
- 5:12This will make more sense as we go.
- 5:15But yes, I wanted to see challenge myself to see if I
- 5:19could write an entire Betty Lou episode.
- 5:22And here we go. I mean, if anyone could, as
- 5:26always, today's questions were written by me with help from
- 5:29that amazing Muppet resource, Muppet Wiki.
- 5:33And Speaking of let's agree to play fair today, please don't
- 5:37use Muppet Wiki or any other resource during this game.
- 5:41I've decided that Betty Lou, one of her character traits is that
- 5:44she hates it when people are unfair.
- 5:47That's her thing. I I decided anyway, before we
- 5:52can learn more about Betty Lou, we need to learn a little bit
- 5:56more about both of our guests. That's right.
- 5:59It's time for our first game to tell a face.
- 6:04Contestants, you're going to buzz in to answer some questions
- 6:08about yourself. Whoever buzzes in first will get
- 6:12introduced first. Ready.
- 6:15Go. All right.
- 6:17Alicia, you buzzed in first, so I'm going to ask you questions
- 6:22first. Aletheia, what is your.
- 6:26Hi there. What is your name?
- 6:28Oh, it's Aletheia. There we go.
- 6:32And this season, it's about time I'm finally asking this question
- 6:36as well. What pronouns should we use for
- 6:38you? I use she, her pronouns.
- 6:41OK, Now, Alicia, you're a first time guest not only on this
- 6:45podcast, but a first time guest on any of the Tough pigs
- 6:48podcasts. So yeah, no, this is this is a
- 6:52scoop I just recorded yesterday with a with another first time.
- 6:56This is my third episode this season with first time Tough
- 7:00Pigs podcast guests. I'm nice.
- 7:03I'm spreading out. Yeah.
- 7:05Yeah. Anyway, so this is your first
- 7:10time on any of the Tough Pigs podcast, so I do want to ask you
- 7:16what's your history with The Muppets?
- 7:18Sure. So when I was a kid, I was
- 7:22really scared of most of The Muppets.
- 7:26I I think I so, like probably play with me.
- 7:30Sesame was like my introduction to The Muppets and Sesame
- 7:35Street. My dad does really good Muppet
- 7:39impressions, like to the point where it also did not help my
- 7:43fear of The Muppets. So I liked Ernie, OK.
- 7:47I think I liked Prairie Dawn and I liked Zoe a lot and Big Bird.
- 7:55But. Bert terrified me, and my dad
- 7:58did not help that. By doing Bert impressions at any
- 8:01time of the day and showing me the mysterious No Snap Snatcher
- 8:06skit did not help with the nightmare fuel at all.
- 8:10So I was pretty afraid of Bert for a good portion of my
- 8:16childhood. But then COVID hit and I kind
- 8:21of, like went back into like some of my childhood stuff and.
- 8:25Was rediscovering The Muppets. I had like, watched the The
- 8:28Muppet movie for maybe the second time in my life, like the
- 8:32beginning of COVID. And then I maybe watched it like
- 8:3515 more times in the first six months of COVID.
- 8:41And I just, I like, got into the Muppet fandom.
- 8:44I got into Fraggle Rock again, which I had watched when I was
- 8:47like 6. We picked up the DVD box sets
- 8:51from F FYI. FYE is it FYE?
- 8:55Yes, sorry. I've never been sure if it's
- 8:57pronounced Fye or Phi I. Think it's FYE right?
- 9:01You're probably right. I don't know.
- 9:03I mean, I for your entertainment is what it stands for.
- 9:07Yeah, so I'm sure it's FYE. I know that that's a useless
- 9:12trivia fact. That I know.
- 9:13How many points do you get for that?
- 9:15Five And then Sesame Street I kind of got into.
- 9:21The most recently out of the three of them, like again as you
- 9:26know, a late teenager and I just kind of like re fell in love
- 9:32with it. Like, I watched Follow that bird
- 9:34again and I had, you know. Memories of watching that on a
- 9:38VHS over and over again, jumping up and down on my basement
- 9:40couch, like for some reason that's ingrained in my memory
- 9:44and my dad is like, no, that didn't happen.
- 9:46We didn't have that couch and we didn't have a VHS and we didn't
- 9:49have the VCR. And then I found the VHS and I
- 9:52was vindicated in my memory. That's not important.
- 9:57But what's important is that I sort of just like.
- 10:01We fell in love with Sesame Street and watched St.
- 10:04Gang a million times and read the book and very, very much
- 10:08became like entrenched in the moral values of Sesame and like
- 10:15learning more about it all the time.
- 10:18And so for that reason, I would consider myself kind of a new
- 10:23Sesame Street fan, even though I run a Sesame Street history
- 10:26account. I just love it so much.
- 10:29But I'm not extremely confident in how much I know Betty Lou
- 10:35well, well, I will say I love Sesame history.
- 10:39That's the account that you run on Twitter and Instagram right.
- 10:44And that's that's that's really great.
- 10:48And I I always say there's plenty of room for new fans as
- 10:51well. It's funny.
- 10:53This is how I know that you're from Canada and about the same
- 10:57age as our Canadian friend Iffy. Because Iffy also was introduced
- 11:02to Sesame Street via Play With Me Sesame because that's that's
- 11:06what was on. Oh, is it, is it Sesame Park?
- 11:10Is the Co production up there so?
- 11:14You wouldn't have seen. The American Sesame Street as
- 11:16much. I am too.
- 11:18About to be like I'm so young. I think I'm one for Sesame Park.
- 11:23Sesame Park I don't think was was on air when when you and
- 11:28Iffy were were were children. That's what I know.
- 11:32I'm already losing at this. That's fascinating, though.
- 11:35That's a really cool story. See, I know this, I know this
- 11:38from talking to Iffy. But yes, if he, if he learned
- 11:41about Ernie and Burt and all of that from from play with me
- 11:44Sesame as well. And yeah, so my last question
- 11:50that I'm going to ask you, seeing as we're focusing today
- 11:52on Betty Lou, the the, the character that maybe I wish got
- 11:56a little more attention, which Sesame Street character do you
- 12:00wish got some more attention these days?
- 12:04I think you're probably going to guess my answer to this.
- 12:07The answer for me is Zoe. I miss Zoe.
- 12:11I mean, like, I'm biased because she was very much like a part of
- 12:15the early 2000 Sesame Street. You know, like kid culture and
- 12:19merchandising. But how?
- 12:22You know, I always like, have a soft spot for Zoe, Both because
- 12:25of like, I love Fran Brill and I love the way she does the voice
- 12:29and like the mannerisms and the way Zoe's like catch phrases.
- 12:33Don't joke me like that's such a cute little.
- 12:36That's such a thing that like a three-year old would say.
- 12:38And like, I think that it's true that she like picked it up, like
- 12:41from hearing like 3 year olds talking to Playground, Yeah, I
- 12:44believe. I believe that was in sesame
- 12:48unpaved. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:52And I have this whole anti capitalist rant that I go on.
- 12:58When I talk about Abu Khadabi, who a lot of people really love,
- 13:02I can't personally get behind it.
- 13:04I stand with the people who love Abu Khadabi.
- 13:07But I do believe that Abby Kadabi is 1 big merchandising
- 13:12employee. You're you're not wrong it it is
- 13:16literally stated that they I mean you know and I've seen you
- 13:20go on this rant but like they they were thinking of
- 13:23merchandise when they designed that character and I I do think
- 13:27she's grown beyond that And you know Leslie does a great job
- 13:31with Abby. I actually I met.
- 13:33I met Abby two days before the pandemic shut everything down.
- 13:38I I I was lucky enough to visit the Sesame Street set on March
- 13:4411th, 2020. That's crazy.
- 13:48Yeah, I I think both things can be true that her design was very
- 13:52specifically calculated to be easily merchandisable and that
- 13:57that she's performed you know that has a talented.
- 13:59Performer and she's. Become a a fun character.
- 14:02Yeah, for sure. Zoe's a great choice, though.
- 14:06And you know, I there. You're right.
- 14:09You're right about Fran. And I'm obviously a big Fran
- 14:11Brill fan as well, for obvious reasons.
- 14:15And you know, really, there's there's no one, no one can do it
- 14:20like she did. You know?
- 14:21Again, I love that they're they they're trying to keep using Zoe
- 14:26sometimes, but it really just isn't the same without without
- 14:30Fran. All right, well, Alicia, you've
- 14:34earned 20 points for answering those questions.
- 14:38So look at this. Look at this.
- 14:40No matter how anxious you might be, you definitely aren't going
- 14:43to walk away from here with 0 points.
- 14:47And let's move on to our next contestant.
- 14:50Our next contestant? What is your name?
- 14:54My name is Ryan Rowe, all right. And Ryan, I'm going to ask same
- 14:59question. What pronouns should we use?
- 15:02Yes, he him is good for me. OK, now Ryan, everybody knows
- 15:07you. You're one of the Co owners of
- 15:10toughpigs.com, the host of our flagship podcast.
- 15:14Moving right along, I'm trying to think of something funny.
- 15:19Co creator of the superhero named Captain Google.
- 15:25So everybody knows all of this about you already.
- 15:29So I'm going to ask you another important question.
- 15:32Where do I park my bicycle? In Buffalo Okay, sure.
- 15:40I don't know. Last question.
- 15:42What Sesame Street character do you wish got more attention?
- 15:48I am. Going to say it might be a
- 15:52different answer if you ask me. You know, any other day of the
- 15:55week today I'll go with Snuffy because I have noticed recently
- 15:59people lamenting a lack of Snuffy and in recent episodes of
- 16:05Sesame Street. I understand that some of that
- 16:07is probably because of COVID precautions of having two
- 16:10puppeteers trapped inside a little tent of a puppet.
- 16:15But yeah, Snuffy's great and I I hope that.
- 16:18Today's Sesame watching kids actually know who he is and love
- 16:21him as much as we do. Well, you know, there's an easy
- 16:24answer to this question, which is they could bring back Alice
- 16:29Snuffle up, I guess. Yeah, it's just one person.
- 16:32They should do that anyway. Yeah.
- 16:34Yeah. Anyway, Ryan, you've also earned
- 16:40yourself 20 points. And let me tell you, both of
- 16:43you, for doing so great there, you've made me feel as happy as
- 16:47Betty Lou would feel if she got to build a go Kart.
- 16:51Again, I'm going to remind you, that's her dream according to
- 16:55the according to the Sesame Street Treasury.
- 16:57Yes, of course. Anyway, so let's get things
- 17:00started with our first real trivia game.
- 17:03Now one of the Betty Lou puppets first appearances was in a game
- 17:08show sketch called Pick Your Pet.
- 17:11Here she was called Lucy Jones and had to choose a favorite pet
- 17:15between three choices. Little Bird, Baskerville, the
- 17:20Hound, and the Beautiful Day Monster.
- 17:23All of these would make perfect pets.
- 17:26Let's be honest. Anyway, thinking about that game
- 17:31got me thinking about Sesame Street Pets.
- 17:35A lot of our favorite furry friends have furry friends of
- 17:39their own. So we're going to play our own
- 17:42version of Pick Your Pet Right now.
- 17:46I will name a Sesame Street pet, you'll buzz in and name the
- 17:52owner. So if I said Talbert the
- 17:55goldfish, you'd buzz in and say Betty Lou, of course.
- 18:02But if I said Hal but the goldfish, you'd buzz in and say
- 18:09Bert. Wow, it's simple.
- 18:12They won't be as hard as those two.
- 18:16Each of these correct answers is worth 2 points.
- 18:20And as always, wait until I finish naming the pet before you
- 18:24buzz in so our friends at home can play a lot.
- 18:28Are you ready? Pick your pet.
- 18:38In just a few moments, a lovely little girl will get to choose
- 18:42one of these animals for her very own pet.
- 18:45OK, question 1. Dorothy the goldfish.
- 18:54Alicia. That's Elmo.
- 18:57That is Elmo, even if Elmo only cares about tango these days.
- 19:02Oh yeah, we're stormy. No, no, just tango.
- 19:07We're only we only care about Tango now.
- 19:09Didn't the Dorothy appear in animated form in the The Tango
- 19:12animated special? Yeah, yeah.
- 19:15Anyway, question to Bernice the pigeon Ryan.
- 19:24Bert, That is Bert. Question three.
- 19:28Fluffy the elephant. Ryan.
- 19:35Oscar the Grouch That is Oscar the Grouch, one of his other
- 19:38pets other than Slimy Question 4.
- 19:42Fata Tita the Cat Ryan. That would be the count, that is
- 19:52count von count. I'm glad you didn't ask any
- 19:54either of us to spell that cat's name.
- 19:57Yeah, no. We just recorded our Halloween
- 20:01episode yesterday. And my good friend Mike
- 20:05Westfall, host of the Advent Calendar House podcast.
- 20:10Was like, I don't remember the name, It's like fatta ta ta ta
- 20:15ti ta ta ta ta. And I'm like, you know what,
- 20:19I'll give it to you. You're close enough.
- 20:22And interestingly enough, he also has a bat named Fata Tita.
- 20:25Not a very creative namer. He's into numbers.
- 20:30Yeah? No, he likes numbers.
- 20:32Surprised his cat's name isn't like 12.
- 20:35Yeah. Then he would like name them for
- 20:38each. Yes.
- 20:41Question 5. Watson the dog, Alicia.
- 20:49I'm gonna guess Sherlock Hemlock.
- 20:50It is Sherlock Hemlock. Literary references in the 90s
- 20:56In the 90s he had a dog named Watson.
- 20:58Question 6. Chucky Sue the hamster Ryan.
- 21:07OK, I know this one. It's Telly.
- 21:09This one is Telly, Correct. Question 7.
- 21:13Barkley the dog. Yeah, Alicia.
- 21:20Well, so I heard. Technically, I heard bark, bark,
- 21:23bark because my Internet glitched out and you repeated
- 21:26yourself. So I heard.
- 21:29I heard Barkley and I was thinking who I was talking
- 21:32about, yeah. I was thinking about Barkley the
- 21:34fish, OK? Who is owned by Elmo?
- 21:39That is true. Bar Elmo does have a fish named
- 21:42Barkley before Dorothy. Yes, I was asking about Barkley
- 21:47the. Dog but I will give you 2 points
- 21:50for Barkley the fish thank. You.
- 21:53I had never heard of Barkley the fish.
- 21:54It's in like 1 episode. OK, Ryan, do you who, who, who
- 21:59owns Barkley the dog? Well, I don't know if they've
- 22:02established a new. Owner.
- 22:04But Linda, traditionally, yeah, Linda's the only one who I think
- 22:08they've officially said ever owned him, other than in the
- 22:12book, a bird's best friend where Big Bird has Barkley, I would
- 22:17have accepted that. Well, yeah, and Big Bird went on
- 22:19international trips with Barkley, so Big Bird went all
- 22:23over. I feel like Alan probably took
- 22:25in Barkley. That's a nice thought.
- 22:28Well, Speaking of Zoe, there's an episode right where Bob is
- 22:32walking the last episode to ever have Barkley.
- 22:36I believe Bob is walking Barkley and Zoe is afraid of Barkley.
- 22:41They need to, they need to talk about that.
- 22:42So maybe maybe Bob has it because you know, he and Linda
- 22:45were an item. Yeah, they were.
- 22:48I mean, we also don't know. Like, maybe Linda still lives on
- 22:52Sesame Street. We just never see her on the
- 22:53show anymore. Who knows?
- 22:54True. True.
- 22:56Also, we haven't seen Barkley in a long time either, for what
- 22:59it's worth. Saying that's only one
- 23:02puppeteer. Right.
- 23:04He could come back, meet Tango, the crossover we all wanted.
- 23:11Speaking of dogs, question 8 Itchy the dog Ryan.
- 23:21That sounds like an Oscar pet. It is not an Oscar pet.
- 23:26Alicia, do you want to try to steal?
- 23:28I I'm. I'm like, blanking.
- 23:30I was going to say Oscar, but now Crunchetta.
- 23:35It is Grungetta correct? Correct.
- 23:40Oh my God, I was about to say. I mean, I wasn't going to give
- 23:44this clue. I was going to wait until after
- 23:46you guessed. But like, if it's not.
- 23:48If it sounds like Oscar, but it's not Oscar, it's it's
- 23:51Brungetta, OK? Great minds think alike.
- 23:55Question 9. Ralphie the Parrot, Ryan.
- 24:03Something in the back of my brain is telling me Baby bear.
- 24:06It is baby bear. Correct.
- 24:08Nice word Question 10. Sammy the Snake.
- 24:13His body looks like a letter S You might remember that song,
- 24:18Ryan. Well, Carol Channing in that
- 24:20song. I don't know if he's her pet.
- 24:22No, okay, don't count that. But yeah, okay.
- 24:25I didn't know he had an owner. Yeah, yeah.
- 24:29Who would own a letter S snake? It's not Carol Channing.
- 24:34It's not Carol Channing the answer to these.
- 24:36None of the answers to these questions are Carol Channing in
- 24:39this entire episode. Good to know.
- 24:42Thank you. Has Carol Channing ever been an
- 24:44answer to a question on Habala? Not yet, but there's no reason
- 24:47she couldn't be. I asked about celebrities all
- 24:49the time. Yeah, all right.
- 24:51The correct answer, weirdly enough, established in one
- 24:56definition in the Sesame Street Dictionary, Prairie Dawn.
- 25:01Wow, was it a definition for the word snake?
- 25:05I believe it's the definition for the word skin.
- 25:08It's a picture of Prairie holding Sammy the snake and she
- 25:11says my pet snake, Sammy has pretty stripes on his skin.
- 25:16I do not have stripes on my skin.
- 25:19Okay, next question, Rufus, the Firefly, Ryan.
- 25:31That's Ernie. That is Ernie.
- 25:34And I would be remiss if I did not point out that as a
- 25:36reference to Groucho Marx's character in Duck Soup, I
- 25:42believe his name is Rufus T Firefly.
- 25:45Oh. Very nice.
- 25:47Wouldn't have, should have put that together.
- 25:49I've seen Duck Soup. I guess I just didn't remember
- 25:52Groucho's last name. And no, I would.
- 25:55You and you watch those movies and you just call them Groucho.
- 25:58Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
- 25:59He's always just playing Groucho.
- 26:00Yeah. Anyway, Question 12.
- 26:03Teeny tiny and sweet. Pea the fish, Alicia.
- 26:12It sounds like an Abby cadabi thing.
- 26:15I think it's probably wrong. It's not Abby Cadabi.
- 26:18Good guess. Teeny, tiny and sweet Elmo.
- 26:26It's not Elmo. It is actually Snuffy.
- 26:29Oh, OK. He has three very small fish.
- 26:34That's cute question. 13 night train the dog.
- 26:39It's. A cool name, whoever it is.
- 26:44Ryan. Take a wild guess that maybe
- 26:47it's a human character. I'll say David, it is not David.
- 26:50Good guess, Alicia. Care to guess?
- 26:53Well, after you said it's not David, but he said a human
- 26:57character. Now I feel like it's human
- 26:58character, but I was gonna say Biff or Sully.
- 27:01Well, it's not Biff or Sully or a human character, but it is a
- 27:05very cool character because it is, of course, Roosevelt
- 27:10Franklin. Oh, OK.
- 27:13Yeah, as established in a comic from like the Sesame Street
- 27:19Bedtime Book. It's reprinted in the Sesame
- 27:22Street treasury. I have that book, but I have not
- 27:25opened it in many years. Question 14.
- 27:28Little Murray Sparkles the cat Alethia.
- 27:36Murray It's not Murray. Good guess, Alethia.
- 27:40Alethia is Little Murray Sparkles before your time.
- 27:44I don't know. I am not recognizing the name
- 27:46Little Marie Sparkles. You're going to love little.
- 27:48We're going to introduce you to Little Marie Sparkles when this
- 27:51is over, Ryan. Yeah, that's Elizabeth.
- 27:54That is Elizabeth. She should be my answer for what
- 27:57character should that you want. We need we need more Elizabeth.
- 28:01We. Should bring back Elizabeth.
- 28:03We need more Elizabeth. Elizabeth was Stephanie
- 28:05Debruzzo's character in like the early 2000s, who was just a girl
- 28:10with a really, really thick, like New York accent, I guess.
- 28:14I think. So yeah, just kind of a brassy,
- 28:16boisterous little girl. And she had.
- 28:19She had a cat named Little Marie Sparkles.
- 28:22Oh, probably somewhere in the deep recesses of my Thank you so
- 28:26much for finding sparkles for me.
- 28:28You've made me so happy. Yeah, you're welcome.
- 28:34And last but not least for this round question 15 Wolfgang the
- 28:38SEAL. He's owned.
- 28:40That's right, someone owned Wolfgang the SEAL.
- 28:47Ryan, do you have a guess? Yeah, My guess is Gina.
- 28:51It is not Gina. Good guess.
- 28:52Alicia, do you have a guess? I was just thinking like, maybe
- 28:57like Bert was randomly walking Wolfgang.
- 29:02Sure. I mean, listen, I'm pulling from
- 29:04sources like that, but no, it's actually Uncle Wally.
- 29:08Wow. Very interesting, yeah.
- 29:12Wolfgang was originally introduced as Wally's pet seal
- 29:16and then Uncle Wally left the show and Wolfgang did not leave
- 29:21the show so. Did Uncle Wally train Wolfgang
- 29:24to do tricks that that sounds like?
- 29:25My guess is that was an Uncle Wally thing.
- 29:29Uncle Wally, for our our younger listeners and or contestants is
- 29:35was a a human character on the show who was just like a
- 29:40whimsical old man. He was Bob's uncle.
- 29:43That's right. He was Bob's uncle.
- 29:45OK All right. Well, that's it for pets.
- 29:49Nice work. And now let's move on to another
- 29:52one of Betty Lou's early appearances.
- 29:54And that's, of course, in the classic Sesame Street song on
- 29:58the subway. I love this song because it's a
- 30:02real catchy song, but also because it reminds me of one of
- 30:05my absolute favorite types of public transportation.
- 30:09Listen, since there isn't any room in this town, we put all
- 30:12the trains down under the ground, and the subway is, of
- 30:16course, the greatest way to explore the greatest city in the
- 30:20world, New York City. Baby Sesame Street has always
- 30:25been filmed in New York City and is set in New York City, which
- 30:29makes it one of the most New York City shows of all time.
- 30:33That's why we're going to take the express right by our local
- 30:37address in a New York City game I'm calling on the subway.
- 30:42I'm going to read a Sesame Street themed fact about a New
- 30:47York City landmark. Your job is to buzz in and name
- 30:53the landmark. You'll get two points for each
- 30:56correct answer. Please wait until I finish
- 30:59reading the fact before you buzz in.
- 31:03Excuse me? Watch it down below the street.
- 31:08Can you just get a beat at the subway?
- 31:10Subway question one? This New York landmark was the
- 31:16setting of the special Don't Eat the Pictures, Alicia.
- 31:26The Met. It was the Met, the Metropolitan
- 31:30Museum of Art for for any any listeners who needed that
- 31:34clarification, question two. In this long running 1992 Sesame
- 31:40Street animated credit sequence, this icon of New York City
- 31:45shakes her hips to start and end the segment.
- 31:52Alicia, it is the Statue of Liberty, correct?
- 31:56I once wrote when we were doing our sesame 50 reviews in 50
- 32:01weeks. My review of the 1992 season was
- 32:04entirely talking about that credit sequence.
- 32:07It's a good one, yeah. Question three.
- 32:11In a season 10 episode filmed on location, we learn that Snuffy
- 32:16comes to this location every day to listen to the singers Alicia.
- 32:26Is it? I can't remember the the name of
- 32:28the Opera House, but is it the Opera House It is.
- 32:31OK, I'll give you a point, Ryan. What's the Opera House named?
- 32:35The big Opera House in New York City.
- 32:37Is it Lincoln Center? Yes, the Metropolitan Opera
- 32:40House at Lincoln Center. Would you have accepted the Met
- 32:44again for that? Sure.
- 32:46I would have also accepted the Met, although I don't feel like
- 32:49anyone calls just the Opera House the.
- 32:52Probably not. I don't.
- 32:53Maybe I'm wrong. And hey, Ryan, maybe this is an
- 32:57unfair question. I didn't realize that you were
- 33:00going to be here when I wrote this question, because bonus
- 33:04question for this tough pigs once hosted an official Muppet
- 33:09Vault at Lincoln Center to celebrate which event?
- 33:14Is that a question specifically for me?
- 33:16No. Either of you can buzz in, but I
- 33:18I think one of you is more qualified to answer, Ryan, what
- 33:23were you doing on that day? I feel bad.
- 33:27I shouldn't have buzzed in even well.
- 33:30I think it was the 40th anniversary of Sesame Street.
- 33:33It was not the 40th anniversary of Sesame Street.
- 33:36Incorrect. Was it 50?
- 33:39It was not the 50th. Either y'all are on.
- 33:43Base what were we doing? There it was.
- 33:44The 45th anniversary, guys. Come on, Ryan.
- 33:50That's right. No that.
- 33:51Yeah, OK. I remember I was living in the
- 33:55city at the time and I was very upset that I could not make it
- 33:59because I had like a grad school final that day.
- 34:04Yeah, that's. You should have skipped it.
- 34:06I should have, but I bet it was good.
- 34:09Yeah, yeah. It was a good one, yeah.
- 34:12That was. Also, they had a great sesame
- 34:13exhibit at Lincoln Center at the same time.
- 34:16Snuffy was there. I got my photo with Mr. Johnson.
- 34:20They had, they had Super Grover hanging, like, at the very top
- 34:24of the ceiling. Yeah, no, it was great.
- 34:26And they had like, I remember, going in and crying because they
- 34:29had just the script to. We'll miss you, Mr. Hooper.
- 34:33Just printed out on on display. Oh my God.
- 34:38I mean, they should bring that bring that exhibit back.
- 34:41Anyway, question 4. Elmo learned what love means
- 34:46from a beluga whale at this landmark.
- 34:53Alicia. Central Park Zoo is not Central
- 34:56Park Zoo. Good guess, Ryan.
- 34:59Is it I'm trying to remember? The name of this place, If in
- 35:04fact, I have it correct. The Brooklyn Aquarium.
- 35:08No, it's the New York Aquarium. Is the name Question 5.
- 35:12Both Gordon and Snuffy competed in this annual New York City
- 35:17athletic event. Ryan.
- 35:23The New York Marathon. That is the New York Marathon
- 35:26Question 6A bench dedicated to Jim Henson can be found in this
- 35:32Manhattan area that was Alicia, Alicia.
- 35:39Central Park, that is Central Park, Alicia.
- 35:42Did you visit that when you were when you were in the city?
- 35:44I wanted to find the bench. I also wanted to find I've been
- 35:47obsessed with the Netflix show. Somebody feed Phil.
- 35:50I wanted to find his bench too, for his wife, but at the time I
- 35:55was. It was the end of a long day.
- 35:57I was trekking through Central Park to get to the other side
- 36:01and I unfortunately I I I said Jim Henson lives in my heart,
- 36:08but unfortunately I was not going to find his bench on that
- 36:12day. That's fair.
- 36:15And Speaking of which important Sesame Street crew member has a
- 36:19bench next to Jim's Ryan Johnstone.
- 36:27That is Johnstone, correct? Question 7 establishing shots of
- 36:33the Count's castle are footage of this Central Park landmark.
- 36:42Ryan, do you know what it's called?
- 36:44Yeah, that's Belvedere Castle. It is called Belvedere Castle.
- 36:48Good. I lived in New York City for 15
- 36:50years and never went there and then.
- 36:53When I came back to visit a few months ago, I I was like, I'm
- 36:56finally going to go to Belvedere Castle and I went and it's
- 36:58pretty cool. Have you been inside?
- 37:00No, it was closed, OK, because I've never been inside.
- 37:03I was fortunate enough to live in a shoebox apartment that was
- 37:07not too far from Central Park. So I used to spend time in
- 37:10Central Park. Yeah, it was about the size of a
- 37:13twin bed, my bedroom. Oh, I believe you.
- 37:15Yeah, That was like I had room for a twin bed and a closet.
- 37:20That was it. Did you go see his bench?
- 37:23I did. Oh, I've.
- 37:24I've seen the bench. Question 8 when he's not helping
- 37:27Forgetful Jones. Buster the Horse is a tour guide
- 37:31at this sister park to the New York Aquarium.
- 37:38Ryan. I have two potential answers in
- 37:44my head. I'm going to say Prospect Park.
- 37:47It is not Prospect Park. Good guess.
- 37:51Alethea cared. A guess?
- 37:53This is in one episode, so I don't.
- 37:55Washington Square? No, it's the Bronx Zoo.
- 37:59Oh, makes sense. This episode used to be on HBO,
- 38:02but you know. Not anymore, But Elmo, Gordon
- 38:06and Miles visited the Bronx Zoo in an episode, and their tour
- 38:10guide was randomly Buster the horse.
- 38:13That's fun. You never know who has hobbies.
- 38:15Yeah, exactly. A side gig?
- 38:17Yeah, Question 9 for the 2008 Just Ask the locals New York
- 38:24City tourism campaign. Big Bird and Elmo appeared in an
- 38:28ad in front of this iconic Manhattan skyscraper.
- 38:36Alicia the. Empire State Building.
- 38:38Not the Empire State Building. I'm sorry.
- 38:40You. You.
- 38:41You chose. You chose the wrong it was.
- 38:44It was a guess. Ryan, what do you think it is?
- 38:46The Chrysler built It is the Chrysler built.
- 38:49It's always one of those two. It's one of those.
- 38:52And Question 10. This is the name of the Queen's
- 38:56studio where Sesame Street has been filmed since 1993, the year
- 39:01they expanded to include Around the Corner, Ryan.
- 39:09Kaufman Astoria. It is Kaufman Astoria Studios.
- 39:13And what other Henson TV show filmed at Kaufman Astoria
- 39:18Studios, also in the early 90s? Alicia Jim.
- 39:26Henson hour. Not the Jim Henson hour.
- 39:28Good guess. Ryan, did you buzz in?
- 39:30Yeah, bear in the Big Blue house.
- 39:32It was bear in the Big Blue house.
- 39:35And I should say again, for our, for our audience or anybody
- 39:40else, obviously you can't get in to Kaufman Astoria Studios
- 39:46unless you have an appointment. But it's like 10 feet away from
- 39:51the Museum of the Moving Image. So next time you visit the
- 39:53Museum of the moving image, you can wave to the gate.
- 39:57Just go look at it. Also, if you're a fan of Orange
- 40:00Is the New Black, that's where they film that.
- 40:02No, I didn't know that one. Yeah, that one wasn't on Muppet
- 40:06Wiki. Question 11 Big Bird, Cookie
- 40:09Monster, Elmo and Prairie Dawn are on permanent display at this
- 40:15New York City location, Alicia. Museum of the moving image.
- 40:22That is the Museum of the moving image.
- 40:24You were just there. They are still there.
- 40:27Those are the only Sesame Street characters on permanent display,
- 40:30right? There's a whatnot, I think.
- 40:32Also, or I mean an anything muppet.
- 40:35Oh, and Honker. Oh right, the Honker is at the
- 40:41front of Yes, yes, but they're they're the only ones in like
- 40:46the Sesame exhibit that I was just basing off of my memory
- 40:50Question Twelve. Since 2019, there has been a
- 40:54permanent Sesame Street Street sign hanging on the intersection
- 40:59between 63rd St. and this famous Ave.
- 41:07Ryan Broadway. It is Broadway Baby Ryan.
- 41:12You were there at the at the hanging of that sign.
- 41:14Right. I was not.
- 41:15Actually not I was. Not able to make it to that one.
- 41:18I think Joe was and and and Matthew and Louie.
- 41:22Yeah, yeah, a few of our tough pics friends.
- 41:24I couldn't make it out there either.
- 41:27Anyway, this is our stop. Everybody off right here at Beat
- 41:32the Time. Stand clear of the closing
- 41:34doors, please. That's right.
- 41:37Now it's time for everyone's favorite headtohead game.
- 41:40Beat The time. Today's Beat The Time is
- 41:45probably my favorite one I've ever assembled, and the one that
- 41:49I was probably the most ridiculous for even trying to
- 41:53assemble. You want to see Silly Monty?
- 41:58I will show you silly. Stand back.
- 42:00You see, we can all probably agree that the best Betty Lou
- 42:04song of all time is I want a monster to be My friend.
- 42:11It's a swinging number that gets stuck in my head all the time
- 42:14and basically explains my worldview.
- 42:16After all, who wouldn't want a monster to be their friend?
- 42:20Well, if you do, I know the place to look.
- 42:23Over the past 54 years, Sesame Street has been home to a lot of
- 42:29monsters. Like a lot of monsters.
- 42:34So I went to Muppet Wiki and I counted up every single
- 42:39recurring monster who has a name, and I got a list of 72
- 42:45names, so I don't expect anybody to get all of them.
- 42:50That's not how Beat the Time works, as as you know.
- 42:54But in this game, yes, you are going to take turns naming all
- 42:58of the monsters on Sesame Street.
- 43:00Oh boy. OK.
- 43:00Can you recurring does that, well we're going to, I'm going
- 43:03to give you some ground rules. OK, thank you.
- 43:04I'm going to give you some ground rules.
- 43:06So first of all, I am only counting specific named
- 43:11characters. And this means that I am not
- 43:14counting, for instance, Grover's mommy as a character because
- 43:19that is not a name that is like a job or a lifestyle.
- 43:26I'm also not counting monsters who only appeared once, even if
- 43:32they were given a name in one episode.
- 43:35However, if that puppet appeared frequently but was only given a
- 43:39name in one episode, I will count that.
- 43:42I wish I could give you an example of that, but that would
- 43:45give away some of the answers. Again, I'm aware we're not going
- 43:49to name all 72 of these, but we're going to go for as many as
- 43:55we can, starting with Alicia. Name a Sesame Street Monster.
- 44:01Grover. Oh well, give me a second to
- 44:04finish explaining the rules. Although yours, yours can be
- 44:07Grover. That's good.
- 44:09Keep that in mind. Grover.
- 44:10Grover is on my list. You're we're going to go back
- 44:13and forth between the two of you to see who can name more.
- 44:17If you can't remember a monster, or you get the name of a monster
- 44:21wrong, your opponent will have a chance to steal.
- 44:24If neither of you get the question right, the round ends.
- 44:30Or if neither of you can think of anything to say.
- 44:33All right, here we go. Let's meet our new friends.
- 44:37I need a very special friend. Won't you help me?
- 44:42Please, Alicia? Give me a monster.
- 44:47Rover. Rover.
- 44:48Correct, Ryan. Cookie monster, Correct, Alicia.
- 44:54Elmo. Ryan.
- 44:56Telly. Correct, Alicia.
- 44:58Ozita correct, Ryan. Zoe.
- 45:02Zoe. Correct.
- 45:03Alicia. Razzle.
- 45:05Razzle. Correct, Ryan.
- 45:08Harry. Harry.
- 45:09Correct. Alicia I'm.
- 45:11Thrown off my game now. Oh, this is awful.
- 45:17It's OK. This is hard.
- 45:19Even though you know these characters, it's still hard.
- 45:22Can he steal it? Yeah, Ryan, you want to steal?
- 45:24Give me a monster. Murray Murray Monster, Correct.
- 45:28Alicia, you want to try again? Does Ruby count Ruby.
- 45:32Ruby is absolutely on my list. Of course, Ruby counts Ryan.
- 45:37I think did you actually say Rudy?
- 45:40I think I said Rudy. Cuz I'm gonna say Rudy, though I
- 45:44thought you said Ruby, which counts, but Rudy also counts.
- 45:48So you know what? We're back to you.
- 45:51Ruby was a short lived, weirdly enough, yellow monster.
- 45:58Don't know why they made that choice in the Was it the late
- 46:0280s, Ruby, They were trying to. They're always trying to add
- 46:06more female characters. That never worked.
- 46:08And of course, Rudy is Abby's stepbrother.
- 46:11Alicia, I believe we're back to you.
- 46:13I had to like climb into the my sister's era of like the sex
- 46:18bedtime podcast for Rudy. So I will say to make this
- 46:24easier for myself, I broke this down into 3 sub lists of
- 46:30extremely well known monsters, moderately well known monsters,
- 46:35and monsters I didn't think you guys are going to get.
- 46:37I bring this up because there are 1234 monsters still
- 46:42remaining on that first list of well known monsters.
- 46:46You have a guess, Aletheia. My brain is not working with me
- 46:50today. That's OK, Ryan.
- 46:54I'm trying to think who else could.
- 46:56Be on that extremely well known list, but nothing's coming to
- 46:59me. But I will say Leo the Party
- 47:01Monster. Leo the Party Monster is on my
- 47:04list. You gotta have potato chips at a
- 47:07party. Party.
- 47:09I have one now. OK, Alicia.
- 47:11Beautiful day monster. The beautiful day monster is on
- 47:15my list. I guess that shouldn't count cuz
- 47:17he's not really named on Sesame Street.
- 47:19But you know what? He's on my list.
- 47:22How can he not be? Ryan, Natasha, Natasha, baby
- 47:27Natasha, Alicia. Louie is his name, right?
- 47:31Louie is his name, correct. Louie is Elmo's dad, Ryan.
- 47:36Ingrid. Ingrid, baby.
- 47:38Natasha's mother. Yes, Alicia.
- 47:41Humphrey Humphrey, Baby Natasha's father.
- 47:44Yeah, Ryan. Well, that was going to be my
- 47:47next one, Dexter. Dexter is on my list.
- 47:55Dexter the Juggling monster. Folks, I will post a video of
- 48:00Dexter on on social media. If you haven't seen Dexter the
- 48:03Juggling monster, this was a giant monster.
- 48:08A professional juggler performed the hands of the monster and
- 48:12then Kevin Clash, stretching his arm as high as it would go.
- 48:17Performs his head above the juggler, and he could only just
- 48:22stand in place and juggle. That was in in Kevin Clash's
- 48:27memoir. He devoted a few paragraphs to
- 48:29talking about what a failure that character was, cuz he
- 48:31couldn't do anything. That's all he could do is just
- 48:33stand there and juggle. Yeah, he couldn't walk around
- 48:36because there were like multiple.
- 48:38You'd see Kevin clash if he even moved slightly to the side
- 48:42anyway. Is it my turn?
- 48:45Yes, it is, Alicia. Does Cousin Monster count as a
- 48:49name? I didn't count Cousin Monster as
- 48:52a name because I counted that as being in the same category as
- 48:58Grover's mommy. However, I will say since it
- 49:02doesn't need the name of another character in its name, I will
- 49:07give you Cousin Monster. Whose cousin is that?
- 49:10Whose cousin was he? That's.
- 49:12Cookie Monster's Cousin Who doesn't Like Cookies?
- 49:14Oh, yeah, yeah. OK, Yeah.
- 49:16No, I'll accept that. Yeah, I'll accept that, because
- 49:18it doesn't. It's not called Cookie monster's
- 49:21cousin. That might be on her birth
- 49:23certificate for all we. Know it might be Ryan.
- 49:26Do you have a guess? Yes, I should have thought of
- 49:28this one sooner. The two headed monster.
- 49:31Oh my God. There is only one more on my
- 49:35list of well known monsters, Alicia.
- 49:39We already said Murray. We already did, Murray.
- 49:41Yeah, my personal favorite. Maybe Bear is not a monster.
- 49:45No, no, he's a bear. It's in his name.
- 49:51I'm gonna surrender this. OK, Ryan, any other guesses?
- 49:55Oh, Sherry Netherlands. Sherry Netherlands, Correct.
- 50:01Another of my favorites. Anybody else, Alicia, you give
- 50:05up still or? Is the serial girl.
- 50:09Is that a monster? Is that a girl?
- 50:10The serial girl is considered a monster, and I did count that as
- 50:14a name. Nice work.
- 50:17That's Olivia. You have gotten the first one
- 50:19from the third list of ones that I didn't think anyone would get
- 50:23with the serial girl. Ryan, I guess we're back to you.
- 50:36Mona Mona Monster correct the same puppet as Ingrid.
- 50:41Ingrid. Yeah, yeah.
- 50:43Was she Telly's sister? Yeah, sister.
- 50:47Cousin. I think she was a sister,
- 50:49actually. A sister, yeah.
- 50:51Equally neurotic. Does deli count?
- 50:53Is her name Deli's Telly's like Z, not Cousin Friend.
- 50:58Oh you know so doesn't count. And also the reason I didn't
- 51:02count Cousin Monster was because Cousin Monster is only in one
- 51:06episode, like Zelly. But I'm still going to give you
- 51:09a point for for Cousin Monster. But I'm not for Zelly because I
- 51:12said I would give you a point for Cousin Monster.
- 51:14It's a it's a one episode because I said it needs to be in
- 51:17more than one episode. So because then I would be here
- 51:20all day and we're already going to be here all day.
- 51:23Ryan, any other guesses? Mary Monster?
- 51:29Yes. Mary Monster.
- 51:31Different than Murray Monster, although the same performer as
- 51:34Murray Monster? Oh yeah.
- 51:37The The rap with Queen Latifah. That's true, Alicia.
- 51:42Gray monster wouldn't count because his name is not Gray
- 51:45monster presumably, right? What is Gray Monster?
- 51:48You know, like the We're all monsters like the Kermit the
- 51:51Forgue. Oh, Kermit, the Forgue is on my
- 51:54list as a name, which I will tell you is going to unlock a
- 51:58couple other ones, Ryan. Yeah, You know, you left it open
- 52:02now, so that. So.
- 52:04Kermit the Gorf. Kermit the Gorf, Correct.
- 52:07Also known as Maurice. Monster.
- 52:09Kermit the Gorf. OK.
- 52:11And Alicia? I stumped myself with that one.
- 52:15So how could you start with? There's one more.
- 52:18I know and I don't know it. OK, OK.
- 52:25I mean, I could guess that's probably not gonna be Kermit the
- 52:29like, Roark or Roarf. It's not Kermit the Roarf.
- 52:34No. I'm sorry, Ryan.
- 52:36You know what it is. Kermit the Groff it is.
- 52:38Kermit the Groff, Also known as Bruce Monster?
- 52:43Really. According to Muppet Wiki.
- 52:45OK. Alicia, any other ones?
- 52:50Not that I can think of right now, Ryan.
- 52:53Oh, OK. OK.
- 52:59Phoebe. Phoebe, correct.
- 53:01Also known as Groogle. Right.
- 53:06I wasn't sure if that was the one who had two names, Olivia.
- 53:10No, Barkley is a dog. Barkley's a dog.
- 53:13Yeah. That's not in his name, no.
- 53:16Not, not as consistently as baby bear, at least.
- 53:20And due to his size, maybe. Yeah, I mean, he's pretty
- 53:23monstrous. I forfeit again, Ryan.
- 53:31Narf. Narf, correct.
- 53:34Phoebe's friend Narf, yeah. They have two other friends.
- 53:37What do they do? You have two other friends,
- 53:40Alicia. I take it you don't know they're
- 53:42two other friends? I don't know.
- 53:43They're two other friends. I wish I did.
- 53:45I wish I had the pleasure. Oh, you.
- 53:47No you don't. Oh no, I don't.
- 53:50This was a bad there were four annoying monsters.
- 53:54Monster clubhouse. The monster clubhouse.
- 53:56Exactly. Monster clubhouse.
- 53:58That's what we do. And if you wanna play, be a
- 54:01monster too. That sounds like separationism.
- 54:08Going a little to literary theory on this.
- 54:13Teaching kids the wrong lesson there.
- 54:16Well, I mean, these are annoying monsters, right?
- 54:19So we're Yeah, yeah, true. We're learning the wrong lessons
- 54:23from there, Ryan. Anything else?
- 54:26Yeah. OK, JJ is on my list.
- 54:30I. Think that was the the third
- 54:32identity of of the Ingrid. I believe you're right.
- 54:37That was the of the third identity of Ingrid.
- 54:40OK, either of you can just shout out any you know at this point.
- 54:43Lulu. I will take Lulu.
- 54:45Another Stephanie Debruzzo character that did not last.
- 54:49Sorry, sorry, Stephanie. Yeah, gone too soon.
- 54:53How many have you? Don't know how many we've done
- 54:56so far so there's one left from the one that I thought would be
- 54:59easy. Then there's 1-234-567-8910 left
- 55:07from the list that I thought would be medium.
- 55:11And then 30 left from the hard list.
- 55:14Don't even. We've said Rosita.
- 55:18We did say Rosita. I'm trying to think of other
- 55:22other. More well known monsters that
- 55:25have family members that have names.
- 55:27Well, I will say this is not anybody's family member, the
- 55:30well known one. But this is a character who
- 55:32still appears still appears on the show with some amount of
- 55:36regularity. We're going to be so ashamed if
- 55:38we don't get this one. One of my favorite characters.
- 55:43One of one of our friend Joe Henness's favorite characters.
- 55:46Prairie Dawn's not a monster. Prairie Dawn is not a monster.
- 55:48Although she she she did work for the Monster News Network
- 55:52because it was a job in journalism.
- 55:54That's a line. We said telly.
- 55:57We did say telly. This monster is on my on my
- 56:01Christmas tree. I mean that you can't see it now
- 56:04because it's August, but on my Christmas tree.
- 56:08I'm gonna be so upset when I when I don't get it.
- 56:10Yeah. Frequently.
- 56:12Like, frequently on the show now?
- 56:13Yeah, frequently. The count doesn't count as a
- 56:15monster. No, I don't count the count as a
- 56:17monster. OK, Abbey Khadabi is a Fairy.
- 56:19Abbey Khadabi is a fairy, which is apparently different than a
- 56:22monster. Well, if it's one of Joe's
- 56:26favorite characters, he's gonna be yelling at us when he listens
- 56:28to this. Yeah, yeah.
- 56:30On the show a lot. I I have a toy of this
- 56:35character, although it isn't in arm's reach of my desk.
- 56:38It's on top of my dresser in the in the other room, but not that
- 56:43our friends at home could see this.
- 56:45Right. I mean, can I just call it or
- 56:48are we are we good? I want.
- 56:49To be so sad. When I.
- 56:51I know, I know it. But Brian, do you have a frantic
- 56:54list of other other weird 80s characters you remember?
- 56:59I I'm actually oh, Aristotle. Aristotle Speaking of weird 80s
- 57:03characters, Telly Monster's blind friend Aristotle, one of
- 57:08the only monsters with ears. Of course, Bill the Frog has
- 57:12ears. That's true.
- 57:14But he's not a monster. No, he's not on Sesame Street.
- 57:17Yeah, I can't remember the other monster clubhouse.
- 57:22I'm being such a good kid right now.
- 57:23I have like the serial. I don't know which serial one it
- 57:27was, the little tiny mini bean Sesame Street characters.
- 57:31I have them on my wall behind me and I'm not looking at well,
- 57:34you've named every single mini bean you've at least all of the
- 57:38all I. Was wondering there was one that
- 57:39I forgot. Do you do you have all of them,
- 57:41Alethea? I do.
- 57:42I do. Oh wow.
- 57:43Are they like the display rack or yeah?
- 57:47I got it for crazy deal, like $30.00 on eBay.
- 57:50You gotta you gotta, you gotta send me a picture of that.
- 57:52Yeah, I wouldn't. I love those.
- 57:53Betty Lou's there. Yeah, no, I know.
- 57:56But not Prairie Dawn. They did not make a Prairie
- 57:59Dawn. They just made Betty Lou.
- 58:00And then they made like rubber ducky.
- 58:02They did make Rubber Ducky. That's such a cool,
- 58:06self-contained collection. Benny Rabbit, Natasha.
- 58:09It's got all my. Amazing.
- 58:11Mumford. Yeah.
- 58:12Anyway, so the full the full list.
- 58:14I thought of two more. Oh, OK, and I think.
- 58:16I'm done. Deena and Pearl.
- 58:18Deena and Pearl. The the weirdest of the weird
- 58:2180s monsters, so I'll save the obvious one for last.
- 58:28We're going to go from hard the hard list to the easy list, as I
- 58:31just read through these real quick.
- 58:33So on the hard list, and I didn't write look down what some
- 58:35of these look like or did, so I don't even remember many of
- 58:39these. But Andre?
- 58:41Monster. Arlene.
- 58:43Frantic. So then Bennett Snurf will be
- 58:46Bennett Snurf is on here too. Baby Tooth and the Fuzzy Funk,
- 58:50Big V, Billy Monster, and Billy, also known as Fred's son Karina,
- 58:59the ballerina who was a friend of Zoe's Clancy, Fenwick, the
- 59:05Flute, Snatcher, Fred, Harry, Not Harry, but Harry Harvey,
- 59:11Helena, Imogene, Jesse, Max, the Magnificent, Norman, Old
- 59:17MacDougall, Parker Radon, Rocky Scudge, the Snurfs, Nerk,
- 59:26Snitch, Spalding Monster and Zoftig.
- 59:31And then our middle list remaining from the maybe you
- 59:36know these characters. Abby's Stepdad Freddy.
- 59:42Monster Monster. Clubhouse, Coconspirator,
- 59:45Google, aka Mooba. Wow wait, wait.
- 59:49So there was a Google, and then Phoebe also used to be called
- 59:52Groogle. They.
- 59:54But here's the thing, When it was Google, it was Phoebe.
- 59:58When it was Mooba, it was Groogle.
- 1:00:01Okay, that's. It's not confusing at all.
- 1:00:04Yeah, and now we get chased by an elephant.
- 1:00:07Carly. I don't know what Carly is.
- 1:00:09I didn't write that down, but I guess it was obvious.
- 1:00:13I don't know. May, who is Elmo's mom, has a
- 1:00:17name. Max Monster who sings Comb Your
- 1:00:22Face. Mel, who is the 4th monster
- 1:00:27clubhouse member, Yeah, the one he spoke gibberish.
- 1:00:30Yeah, he talks like Lips. Rosita's dad, who is named
- 1:00:34Ricardo, the only one of Rosita's family members who has
- 1:00:38a name. And of course, from the original
- 1:00:411975 clip of Fur Stewie Monster, Stewie Monster, of course.
- 1:00:47And last but certainly not least, Gonger.
- 1:00:55Wow. Yeah, no, that's embarrassing.
- 1:00:58No longer the the best new Sesame Street character of the
- 1:01:02last 20 years. 15 years at least.
- 1:01:06Quite possibly. Murray doesn't even count in the
- 1:01:09last 15 years, does he? No.
- 1:01:11Probably not at this point. Because he was definitely around
- 1:01:14for the for the maybe it's 15 almost exact.
- 1:01:17Cuz he was around for the 40th anniversary.
- 1:01:19Yeah, at least. Because that was, of course, the
- 1:01:21heyday of Joey Mazzarino. Anyway, I'm totaling these up
- 1:01:24123456. OK, We've got some points
- 1:01:29totaled there. Thank you for for putting up
- 1:01:32with that, that monster of a round.
- 1:01:35That was such a challenge, but so satisfying.
- 1:01:41I'm so enlightened now. I'm impressed.
- 1:01:44We got as many as we did. I I mean, listen, you got two
- 1:01:47from the hard list. Serial Girl and Juliet were both
- 1:01:52on the hard list that I made. Not bad.
- 1:01:56Well, we're going to end things out with one more trivia game
- 1:02:00before our final two shorter rounds.
- 1:02:03And to make sure that everyone is happy, we're going to end
- 1:02:06this with one of my favorite games.
- 1:02:09The triangle is right. That's right.
- 1:02:12Buried on the triangle is right. That is a game.
- 1:02:18OK, now let's start playing our game.
- 1:02:21Not much of A game. And also, since we're choosing
- 1:02:25something that we all love, we're going to theme this game
- 1:02:29after something we can all agree on.
- 1:02:31Ice Cream. Or I guess more specifically,
- 1:02:34the Betty Lou song. Everyone likes Ice Cream.
- 1:02:39In this song, Betty Lou and two other Anything Muppet kids
- 1:02:43explain how even though people can be very different.
- 1:02:46They're often the same in key ways, such as liking ice cream,
- 1:02:53which got me thinking about two things, Anything Muppets, and
- 1:02:57ways that anything Muppets are the same and different.
- 1:03:00We all know the anything Muppets.
- 1:03:03They've got stock puppet colors and shapes that, with a change
- 1:03:06of a few facial features and performance quirks, can become
- 1:03:10vastly different. Characters take for instance.
- 1:03:15The small hot pink anything Muppet pattern.
- 1:03:19This pattern could become Prairie Dawn or Gunger or the
- 1:03:24Bubbsy Twins or of course Betty Lou.
- 1:03:28In this game I am going to name an anything Muppet color and
- 1:03:34pattern. You'll buzz in and name 3
- 1:03:37characters constructed from that.
- 1:03:40Anything muppet? For each of these, there are
- 1:03:44more than three possible answers, but we're keeping it to
- 1:03:47three because we just did all of the monsters.
- 1:03:50I don't have time to do all of the hot pink things.
- 1:03:56Remember, buzz in. Even if you don't know all three
- 1:04:00answers, you'll get points for whatever you can name.
- 1:04:04However, of course your opponent will have the chance to finish
- 1:04:08off whatever. You can't, all right.
- 1:04:12So here we go. OK, our first anything muppet is
- 1:04:16fat blue Alicia. Mr. Johnson.
- 1:04:24Mr. Johnson is the fat blue anything Muppet.
- 1:04:28Oh, man, it's OK All right. You can have it.
- 1:04:33Ryan Name. Another name.
- 1:04:34Another fat blue Simon Soundman. Simon Soundman correct.
- 1:04:39And can you name one more? You're asking me right?
- 1:04:42Yeah, I think Papa Twiddlebug. Papa Twiddlebug.
- 1:04:46Correct. Other ones on my list.
- 1:04:49And this is not all of them, but ones that I thought maybe there
- 1:04:52was a chance you'd say were Little Chrissy.
- 1:04:55Professor Hastings and. Big Jeff, Question 2, Green,
- 1:05:05Alicia. Farley is 1.
- 1:05:08Farley is absolutely one of the green.
- 1:05:12If he would be proud of me for that.
- 1:05:13One, Yeah. No, no, no.
- 1:05:14He's listening and beaming that you remembered.
- 1:05:17You remembered his son Farley. I don't know Others is the J
- 1:05:27song. Is one of those the green
- 1:05:30anything Muppet? The J's I know what you're
- 1:05:33talking about. Let me see.
- 1:05:35Because I didn't have that written down, but that is a
- 1:05:38song. And I know they have names
- 1:05:40because they say their names. They do it.
- 1:05:42One of them is green. And I will give you, I will give
- 1:05:49you 2 points for bringing up such a specific thing as the J
- 1:05:53friends, the one performed by Frank Oz, who I think was Joe.
- 1:06:03Is is is the green one. OK.
- 1:06:06Any other ones? I forgot that we were.
- 1:06:09I was. No it's okay.
- 1:06:10You can you can go for three or you can you can let Ryan have
- 1:06:13the 3rd I'm. Gonna let Ryan go.
- 1:06:17All right, Ryan. Name another name, another
- 1:06:18Green, anything. Muppet.
- 1:06:20Yeah, I actually. OK.
- 1:06:25Which one of them, I think Arlene frantic?
- 1:06:30See you guys. Keep choosing ones that aren't
- 1:06:32on my list. Arlene Frantic is the green
- 1:06:37anything Muppet, I will. I will give it to you, Ryan.
- 1:06:41Only because we mentioned her earlier, yeah.
- 1:06:44Other more obvious choices, Alicia, look up at your mini
- 1:06:48beans, because Sherlock Hemlock is the green.
- 1:06:52The green anything muppet, as is Lefty the salesman.
- 1:06:59Little Jerry Ryan, your favorite character.
- 1:07:03Forgetful Jones. Girlfriend Clementine.
- 1:07:06Oh yeah. We mentioned her earlier,
- 1:07:10Elizabeth. Oh yeah.
- 1:07:12It has little Murray Sparkles and JP from the Miami mice.
- 1:07:18I had written down question three large lavender Alicia.
- 1:07:28Count. OK, the count.
- 1:07:30That's the easy one. Countess Natasha.
- 1:07:34I will give you Countess Natasha.
- 1:07:37And then I can't remember her name, so like count backwards or
- 1:07:41something. There is a Countess backwards.
- 1:07:44I will give it to you. All right, that's that's three.
- 1:07:48But I also had amazing Mumford. Yeah.
- 1:07:52Forgetful Jones, Beth and Harvey Kneeslapper.
- 1:07:57Harvey Knee Slapper really scared me and to be honest is
- 1:08:01scary to me. Oh no.
- 1:08:02The Harvey Knee Slapper is a little scary.
- 1:08:05Frank Oz hated being Harvey Knee Slapper.
- 1:08:07That's a famous story. I would question 4 Orange gold,
- 1:08:17Ryan, Guy, Smiley. Guy Smiley is the orange gold
- 1:08:21puppet Prince Charming. Prince Charming, who is
- 1:08:29basically the same as Guy Smiley and another character whose name
- 1:08:43is. I don't know.
- 1:08:46OK, Alicia, could you name another orange gold on?
- 1:08:50Music. Don music, of course.
- 1:08:54Ryan, you'll never get it. No, I'm banging my head on the
- 1:08:57keyboard right now. Also, would have accepted one of
- 1:09:00my favorites, Monty. Oh yeah.
- 1:09:04And Vincent twice, Vincent twice.
- 1:09:08There's other ones too, but again, these are just the ones I
- 1:09:10wrote down. Question five small Lavender.
- 1:09:19Ryan. Roosevelt.
- 1:09:21Franklin. I'm sorry, Roosevelt.
- 1:09:24Franklin is not considered to be small lavender okay.
- 1:09:28He's not lavender. Is he?
- 1:09:29No, cuz he's not lavender. Well, no, Okay.
- 1:09:33Alicia. I can't do the J friends again,
- 1:09:38can I? Is one of them small and
- 1:09:41lavender? Maybe.
- 1:09:45Yes, hold on. Is this what I consider to be?
- 1:09:49They consider to be small lavender?
- 1:09:51Yes. OK, you know what?
- 1:09:52I'll take a J Friend. One of them is lavender.
- 1:09:56One of them is lavender. I don't know which J friend it
- 1:09:59is. It appears to be the one who is
- 1:10:02voiced by Fran Brill. So it's either it's either Jane
- 1:10:07or Joan. I don't.
- 1:10:08I don't know what. Any other ones?
- 1:10:11As are any of the The Beatles. A purple, any lavender or small,
- 1:10:17anything like that. One of the Twiddle Bugs or The
- 1:10:19Beatles or the Twiddle Bugs. Well, I was the.
- 1:10:22Beetles are all green, right? That's right.
- 1:10:25Well, you can pretend I said. Twiddle bugs.
- 1:10:27But I would have needed a name for Twiddle Bug.
- 1:10:30I'm not just giving it to you. All right.
- 1:10:32Lavender ones on this list. Herbert, Bird's Foot.
- 1:10:38Polly Darton. Sammy the Snake.
- 1:10:44OK, Captain Vegetable and Roxy Marie, Captain.
- 1:10:49Vegetables, not a large lavender.
- 1:10:51No, he's small, OK? At least according to Muppet
- 1:10:56Wiki. Yeah, no, I'm I'm surprisingly
- 1:10:58bad at this. OK, and this is the last one.
- 1:11:01And this is the hardest 1 pumpkin Ryan Brazzle.
- 1:11:09Brazzle was originally the pumpkin.
- 1:11:11Anything muppet correct? Can you name two other ones,
- 1:11:15though? Probably not pumpkin.
- 1:11:29Is it Richard from Little Jerry and the Monotones?
- 1:11:37You know I can't give you that because.
- 1:11:40Because we, and this is fascinating to me, do not know
- 1:11:46which member of the monotones is Richard and which one of them is
- 1:11:51Chrissy. It has never been established.
- 1:11:59We only know that Little Jerry is the green one and Big Jeff is
- 1:12:04the blue one. According to Muppet Wiki.
- 1:12:07We are not sure which one is which.
- 1:12:10OK, yeah, I got nothing else. Alicia, any guesses for for
- 1:12:14pumpkin? Same one as Frazzle.
- 1:12:17All right. There aren't many good choices
- 1:12:20here. This is the hard one, but one of
- 1:12:22the ones that I thought you guys would get was Sully.
- 1:12:27I love Sully. And also, Dr. Feel, everyone's
- 1:12:32favorite Doctor Phil parody Muppet.
- 1:12:34Yeah, that was a weird thing. That was.
- 1:12:39He showed up, like, repeatedly, too.
- 1:12:41Yeah. And it was, it was Steve
- 1:12:42Wittmeyer. Yeah.
- 1:12:44Whitmeyer is at least. I mean, he's from the South.
- 1:12:46So I guess that, I think that's probably why.
- 1:12:48Yeah. They're like, can you play this,
- 1:12:50this other guy? Yeah.
- 1:12:51Like, all right, let me let me total up the scores while I'm
- 1:12:55doing that. First of all, are you both OK,
- 1:12:57we're almost done. We're in the tail end here.
- 1:13:00And second of all, make sure that you've got your questions
- 1:13:03ready because we're going to do that round.
- 1:13:05I feel as good as Betty Lou that time she was hanging out with
- 1:13:09her best friend Louise. Nice work there.
- 1:13:11I wish I could give you both a nice big bowl of ice cream, but
- 1:13:15instead I'm going to give you our next game, the Anything in
- 1:13:18the World Prize game. This is our classic Stump the
- 1:13:22host game. As you know, in this round you
- 1:13:25will be able to ask me anything in the world about Sesame
- 1:13:29Street. Yours does not have to be about
- 1:13:32Betty Luke. I I will, I will clarify.
- 1:13:36If you stump me, you will earn 15 points.
- 1:13:39Here's the scores right now, Aletheia, you have a score of 63
- 1:13:44points. Ryan, you have a score of 95
- 1:13:50points. I will say remembering those 80s
- 1:13:54monsters really helped you pull ahead.
- 1:13:57You got three times as many monsters as Alicia did.
- 1:14:02I watched so much Sesame Street. Yeah.
- 1:14:04So that's that's exactly where you pulled ahead because that's
- 1:14:07the difference in the point scores right here.
- 1:14:11Thanks, Juliet. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:14:13For your memory of Juliet Monster and Aristotle Monster.
- 1:14:19So Alicia, if you stumped me with this question, you will
- 1:14:23earn 15 points. Alethea, what is your question
- 1:14:27for me? OK, I'm not sure about the
- 1:14:31difficulty level. Of this it's OK.
- 1:14:33But. Everyone's a winner.
- 1:14:35Who is not a Sesame Street parody character?
- 1:14:40A Neil Cowherd B eel sedaka C triangle Bob triangle pants.
- 1:14:50Or D Mia Sparrow. The only one I know for a fact
- 1:14:54is Triangle Bob. Triangle Pants because we had
- 1:14:57that great article a while ago. Where was it?
- 1:14:59Shane. Who put photos of every Bob
- 1:15:02costume? Or was it you, Ryan?
- 1:15:04It wasn't me then. It was probably Shane.
- 1:15:07Yeah, Bob wore a lot of ridiculous costumes.
- 1:15:09I'm. Going to guess eel sedaka
- 1:15:14because I feel like I would remember an eel puppet if there
- 1:15:17was an eel puppet on Sesame Street.
- 1:15:20But I guess it could just be the Sammy the Snake puppet again.
- 1:15:23But my guess is still eel sedaka.
- 1:15:27You are correct. Will Sedaka is an eel I made-up
- 1:15:31in the recesses of my own imagination.
- 1:15:33Well, listen, that's a great character and they should, they
- 1:15:35should look you up. Can I can I just ask when would
- 1:15:39when did they use Mia Sparrow? I'm gonna guess like the 80s.
- 1:15:46I don't, actually. OK.
- 1:15:49I would guess that too. Oh, Mia Sparrow, 1989.
- 1:15:54She is a bird as well as an actress who appears in episode
- 1:15:582540. During an interview with Flo
- 1:16:01Bear, she talks about her gratitude for her new role in an
- 1:16:06upcoming movie, I'm Alive. And Alicia, what was the the
- 1:16:11first one that you said? Noel Cowherd Is that a cow or a
- 1:16:16cowboy? It's a cowboy from 1991.
- 1:16:19He's the fastest draw in the West because he is very good at
- 1:16:24drawing. Wow.
- 1:16:28He's appeared multiple times. Really.
- 1:16:30Does he deliver witty Bun motts? No cowboy life.
- 1:16:37No. Maybe he's an old friend of
- 1:16:40Forgetful Jones. He defeated Billy the Grown Up
- 1:16:43in a square fight. Which was a fight to see which
- 1:16:47two people could draw. Which person could draw squares
- 1:16:51fastest. He appeared alongside Johnny
- 1:16:56Cash and is on the album's Elmo's Lowdown, Hoedown, and
- 1:17:01Kids favorite songs. That's a lot of null Cowherd
- 1:17:08material considering considering it's a parody of.
- 1:17:14An English playwright wrote private lives like Yes, that's
- 1:17:22pretty specific. And dude, I did my I tested my
- 1:17:26parents with this one and they both thought I made that null.
- 1:17:28Cowherd. Yeah, I mean that is it was
- 1:17:32between those two because I was like they didn't do a null
- 1:17:36coward already character what? But no, apparently they did.
- 1:17:44So I'm sorry, Alicia, you do not earn 15 points there.
- 1:17:48I'm proud of you. Ryan Yeah, So those, yeah, that
- 1:17:54I was thinking about trying to figure out a way to tie this
- 1:17:56back to Betty Lou, but I don't think I can.
- 1:17:58Also, I based on the pet round. I am suspicious that you might
- 1:18:04have come across the answer to this in your research, but I'm
- 1:18:08going to go with it anyway. There are at least three Sesame
- 1:18:13Street Muppets who have faithful horse companions.
- 1:18:18They are Marshall Grover, Forgetful Jones, and Prince
- 1:18:21Charming. Can you name all three of their
- 1:18:24horses? So Buster is Forgetful Jones
- 1:18:30horse. Yes, Fred the Wonder Horse is
- 1:18:35Grover's horse. Yep, you got his full name.
- 1:18:37Good. You know you gotta.
- 1:18:41I did not know Prince Charming had a horse.
- 1:18:45Harpo. No, That would be a good name
- 1:18:48for a horse. Yeah, Harpo the horse.
- 1:18:51No, it was Duke. Oh, see, that's that's funny.
- 1:18:56Sure, yeah. I don't.
- 1:18:57I have not seen any clips of him, actually, but I I assume he
- 1:19:02talked in a John Wayne voice. It was Richard Hunt, apparently.
- 1:19:05That feels like something that Richard Hunt would do.
- 1:19:09And this is, I think, a relatively recent wiki discovery
- 1:19:12that Prince Charming actually appeared in several St. stories,
- 1:19:16I think in the late 70s. Yeah, so.
- 1:19:18So he usually had Duke with him. Duke.
- 1:19:20Yeah, this seems like he was only in only in street stories,
- 1:19:27which means that these weren't re aired and I wasn't alive in
- 1:19:311975 to see them, but I had to stump you.
- 1:19:35Although interestingly enough, he did show up again in 1990 as
- 1:19:40a different characters horse. They're performed by Marty
- 1:19:45Robinson. Now would you have accepted
- 1:19:49Lance, which is what Prince Charming's horse was referred to
- 1:19:53in the Who's Who on Sesame Street coloring book according
- 1:19:57to Muppet Wiki? I did see that that was on the
- 1:19:59wiki page. I would have accepted that.
- 1:20:02OK, Lance was a. Lance was a You got me.
- 1:20:05And hey, it wound up being themed to our first Grant.
- 1:20:09Ryan, you earned 15 points. Thank you.
- 1:20:12We are going to move into our final game, which is, of course,
- 1:20:15say the word. So here's our current score.
- 1:20:20Alethia, you have 63 points. Ryan, you have 110 points.
- 1:20:26Well, it's still anybody's game though, because that's how say
- 1:20:31the word works. In this round, you can wager any
- 1:20:35amount of points. The winner gets the points, the
- 1:20:39loser loses them. You will hear the question
- 1:20:43before you wager. So here's the question.
- 1:20:47As we've seen throughout this episode, Betty Lou is an enigma.
- 1:20:52She's been so many things to so many people.
- 1:20:56She's had many names, many forms.
- 1:20:59She loves Go Karts and monsters and Subways and Talbert and
- 1:21:04Louise and Cinnamon Toast. Unlike her hot pink pier Prairie
- 1:21:10Dawn, who has a clear, understandable personality and
- 1:21:14really only two performers, Betty Lou didn't have a regular
- 1:21:19performer until the 90s. Muppet Wiki lists six different
- 1:21:25performers in her casting history.
- 1:21:29Name as many of these performers as you can.
- 1:21:33Whoever gets more correct will win the points that they
- 1:21:39wagered, so you do not have to get all six right to earn your
- 1:21:43points. You know if Ryan gets three of
- 1:21:46the performers right and Aletheia gets four of the
- 1:21:49performers right, Ryan you will lose your bet and Aletheia, you
- 1:21:53will gain your bet. I mean, worse comes to worse.
- 1:21:56Guess 6-6 puppeteers I have written down here where each of
- 1:22:05these performers performed her, but you do not need to know that
- 1:22:10okay. So neither of you got all six
- 1:22:15correct answers. However, both of you did get a
- 1:22:18bunch correct, which is good. Both of you and I I haven't
- 1:22:23actually counted how many you've got right?
- 1:22:26So let's start. Ryan.
- 1:22:29You bet 20 points. Which six puppeteers did you
- 1:22:33name? I named Frank Oz, Fran Brill,
- 1:22:38Jerry Nelson, Carol Spinney, Lisa Buckley, and Cheryl
- 1:22:42Blaylock. OK, Alicia, you guessed 10
- 1:22:47points and you named 6 puppeteers as well.
- 1:22:50Who did you name? I got the note I named Fran
- 1:22:53Brill, Frank Oz, Richard Hunt, Loretta Long with a question
- 1:22:57mark. Hudson was a joke.
- 1:23:00And then I remembered I could only, well, Jerry Nelson.
- 1:23:06OK, well, listen, so like I said, you each got some of those
- 1:23:10correct. Let's walk through who performed
- 1:23:14Betty Lou according to Muppet Wiki and I will tell you whether
- 1:23:17you got that right. So both of you named Frank Oz.
- 1:23:23Frank Oz is listed because Frank Oz performed Betty Lou in Pick
- 1:23:28Your Pet, although she was called Lucy Jones there and in
- 1:23:33everyone likes ice cream. So you each got Frank Oz
- 1:23:38correct. Second one on my list was
- 1:23:41Franbril. You both guessed Franbril.
- 1:23:44That is the obvious guess, seeing As for a long time she
- 1:23:48was the only female puppeteer I. Grew up listening to a like a
- 1:23:53read along book and tape. That was Fran Brill as Betty
- 1:23:57Lou. Fran did Betty Lou on all of the
- 1:24:00books at Book and Tapes. OK And of course Betty Lou
- 1:24:03appeared, as we've talked about a lot more often in books than
- 1:24:07ever on the show, right. She also performed her in the
- 1:24:11original exercise sketch Amigo, beginning, middle, and end, when
- 1:24:17the Ice Follies, Sketches were given, narration, all sorts of
- 1:24:22things like that. The next person on my list is
- 1:24:25Jerry Nelson, who you each guest as well, specifically in the
- 1:24:30song Clubhouse Cooperation. Which I definitely now next
- 1:24:35person on my list. Neither of you wrote, and this
- 1:24:40is this is who I consider to be the definitive Betty Lou Marilyn
- 1:24:44Sokol. Yeah, those two songs.
- 1:24:50I want a monster to be my friend and on the subway.
- 1:24:54Yeah, again, Marilyn Sokol. Wish she did more with The
- 1:25:01Muppets. She's so good in Emmet Otter and
- 1:25:04so good on both of those songs. I guess mostly on I Want a
- 1:25:07Monster to Be My friend. She's got like one line in
- 1:25:09Subway but. I realize now I was thinking too
- 1:25:13narrowly, because I wasn't. I wasn't taking into account
- 1:25:16voice like vocal dub performances.
- 1:25:20It's listed on Muppet wiki. Yeah, no, it would be, yeah.
- 1:25:22Cuz Marilyn Sokol didn't do the puppetry.
- 1:25:24She was the voice, but she did it, Yeah.
- 1:25:26I don't. Do we know that she didn't do
- 1:25:29the puppetry on Sesame Street, though?
- 1:25:32Oh, I mean, I guess she didn't. She didn't.
- 1:25:35For Emmett Otter, she didn't. For Emmett Otter OK, no, it was
- 1:25:39it was voice only. She only did puppeteering and it
- 1:25:44looks like Santa Claus Switch, but no, she yeah.
- 1:25:50So next person on my list. Richard Hunt, which Alethia
- 1:25:56guest but Ryan did not. Richard seems to have performed
- 1:26:00her in the song. It's funny and looks like
- 1:26:02nowhere else. And the last person on my list
- 1:26:07is Lisa Buckley, who was, of course, Betty Lou's regular
- 1:26:11performer from seasons 25 through 29 when they desperately
- 1:26:15tried to make Betty Lou a major character who loved collecting
- 1:26:20dolls. That was her thing.
- 1:26:23And I will. I'm going to say this wore a
- 1:26:27really ugly dress. That really bothers me, Ryan.
- 1:26:34You also guessed Cheryl Blaylock not on my list.
- 1:26:37And I that was just a guess. Harold Spinney Not on my list
- 1:26:42and. Those early things, Alicia?
- 1:26:44You guessed Loretta Lynn. Not on my list.
- 1:26:48Good guess, though, considering not Loretta Lynn.
- 1:26:54Who was on Sesame Street? That's true.
- 1:26:56That would have been cool. You guessed Loretta Long, which
- 1:27:00made sense as a guest, seeing as Gordon voiced Roosevelt
- 1:27:04Franklin, and they're they're kind of similar characters.
- 1:27:08She voiced Roosevelt, Franklin's mother.
- 1:27:10Oh, right, of course. And so not Betty Lou, though.
- 1:27:14And you guessed Jim Henson, possibly as a joke.
- 1:27:18Not, not on my list either. So weirdly enough, you both got
- 1:27:22the same number of performers, correct?
- 1:27:25Just different performers or I guess three of the same
- 1:27:30performers. And Ryan said Lisa Buckley and
- 1:27:33Alicia said Richard Hunt. So you each get your points,
- 1:27:38your points back because you tied on that.
- 1:27:41But of course, Ryan's lead was a little a little too too high to
- 1:27:48to surmount. So our winner and today's
- 1:27:52toughest pig is Ryan Rowe. Once again, Ryan.
- 1:27:56Thank you. This is a great game.
- 1:27:59Well, thank you. Congratulations.
- 1:28:02You of course win your choice of a Metro card, which is great for
- 1:28:07getting on the subway, the longest running show underground
- 1:28:12or I I've started, I got a little board making magnets.
- 1:28:15So I started making these like little little picture cards.
- 1:28:20And so here's a little picture of Betty Lou and the Beautiful
- 1:28:23Day Monster together. Together at last.
- 1:28:27After, pick your pet and I will happily send you this way.
- 1:28:32Send you this if you'd prefer this to a subway.
- 1:28:36Card. You know, the Metro card might
- 1:28:38be useful the next time I'm in the New York area, but I yeah, I
- 1:28:42think I gotta go with the picture card.
- 1:28:45I will. I will send you send you my
- 1:28:46little picture card of of Betty Lou.
- 1:28:49Thanks, and now you understand the reference because you know
- 1:28:53all about Pick your pet where she picks the Beautiful Day
- 1:28:56monster over Little Bird and Baskerville the Hound.
- 1:28:59What's her reasoning for that? The game is like she's
- 1:29:04blindfolded and it's like the dating game where they each she
- 1:29:10gets to ask a certain amount of questions and doesn't actually
- 1:29:14get to ask the beautiful Day monster any questions.
- 1:29:18But she clearly wants a cat so she isn't happy with a bird or a
- 1:29:23dog. So she guesses the third one and
- 1:29:26then is very happy to learn that the Beautiful Day monster has
- 1:29:30soft silky fur and purrs and wants to drink milk.
- 1:29:36So she she got the pet she wanted after all.
- 1:29:39Well, that's nice. And now you get that reference.
- 1:29:44So that brings us to the end of another one.
- 1:29:46So guests, where can people find you If you wish to be found?
- 1:29:52Ryan, let's start with you. Toughpigs.com Always the Moving
- 1:29:58Right Along Muppet Movie podcast has a bonus episode.
- 1:30:02We're in between seasons as we record this.
- 1:30:05We do have a bonus episode coming soon, possibly out.
- 1:30:07By the time you hear this, our guests on that episode is.
- 1:30:11Becca Petunia, the host of this podcast.
- 1:30:14That's true. And we're talking about the the
- 1:30:171994 Muppet album Kermit Unpigged.
- 1:30:19And it's a really fun episode, so everyone should seek that
- 1:30:22out. I'm I'm not really on Twitter
- 1:30:26anymore, or X or whatever it's called, because that's just a
- 1:30:30disaster. Yeah, I have been a little more
- 1:30:33active on Blue Sky recently, actually.
- 1:30:35You gave me my blue sky, and I sure did give you your I.
- 1:30:38Really like it there. I hope it catches on.
- 1:30:40I hope everybody uses Blue Sky forever now.
- 1:30:42So I am at me, Ryan Rowe over there and Alicia.
- 1:30:48So I am my personal like. You know Alethia account is at
- 1:30:53Alethia Shirilan. SHIRILAN is my last name and
- 1:30:59then I have a link tree in that bio with like my website and
- 1:31:03like you can find some of the links to my plays and stuff
- 1:31:07there and then for Sesame history, I believe my Twitter
- 1:31:12handle is Sesame History. I'm trying to make the migration
- 1:31:16to blue sky. Right now I just got a blue sky
- 1:31:19code, so I think it's also sesame history there.
- 1:31:22But if you have trouble finding me, a few searches should do it.
- 1:31:28Or like a look through the Muppet Twitter community, I'll
- 1:31:31tag you in this post. You're fine.
- 1:31:33You're fine. And again, it's a delightful,
- 1:31:36it's a delightful little little page, a lot of just funny posts
- 1:31:42and like good memories and weird, creepy early sleeping
- 1:31:47dolls and and everything, everything you could want.
- 1:31:52And of course you can find me on Tough Pigs.
- 1:31:56Tough Pigs, of course. Still the the best place to find
- 1:32:00me or Ryan or any of us, because Tough Pigs has lasted 22 years
- 1:32:06without exploding. And that's more more than I can
- 1:32:10say about any of these other social media websites.
- 1:32:14Well, in my defense, I wasn't writing for it 22 years ago, so
- 1:32:17I don't have to feel that old. I've only been writing for it
- 1:32:19for 9 years. But of course you can find tough
- 1:32:24pigs. If you do want to go on social
- 1:32:26media, you could find tough pigs on Twitter and Facebook and Blue
- 1:32:31Sky and Instagram. And we are on Patreon.
- 1:32:36If you want to support us, you could give us some money on
- 1:32:39Patreon and get some exclusive free stuff.
- 1:32:43I should also mention you can support us on the Tough Pigs T
- 1:32:46public page. We've got a bunch of designs,
- 1:32:50some of which I designed, including a Hubble Wash shirt,
- 1:32:54some Pride shirts still available, Monster at the end of
- 1:32:58this book shirt I designed. Number one seller, I'm pumping
- 1:33:02my fist. I'm pumping my fist.
- 1:33:04You can't see it. Audience at home.
- 1:33:06But I would say 90% of the time we get a notification from T
- 1:33:09public like you've made a sale. Almost every time it's it's the
- 1:33:13monster at the end of this book shirt.
- 1:33:15I gotta say. I mean, listen, I'm proud
- 1:33:16because I worked hard on that and I think it's a wonderful
- 1:33:19shirt and all of those different things.
- 1:33:21Yes, sure. But I gotta say some of the
- 1:33:23newer designs, the the Muppet Movie inspired designs I in
- 1:33:27love. And the only thing that's
- 1:33:29keeping me from getting them is because I can't decide which one
- 1:33:32to get. And I know I can't get like all
- 1:33:35ten of them. Anna, there should be a new
- 1:33:39design by the time this episode is out.
- 1:33:42A new design I made should be should be available.
- 1:33:45No. I made I made Lips Tutter St.
- 1:33:47Trumpet Company. Sure, I made a I made a replica
- 1:33:50of it. Yeah, that looks great.
- 1:33:52So that'll that should be up. And if you want to find me on
- 1:33:55social media, boy this is going long.
- 1:33:57If you want to find me on social media at Uncle Petunio on
- 1:34:02Twitter, that's Uncle like the kind of person who might own
- 1:34:07Wolfgang the seal. And Petunio is like the flower
- 1:34:11but with an O instead of an A. And I'm on all of the other
- 1:34:14socials, Instagram, Blue Sky Tumblr threads at Tall Girl
- 1:34:21Petunia. That time Petunia is spelled
- 1:34:24like the flower. I'd like to thank some people
- 1:34:27for helping out. Of course, our guests thank you
- 1:34:30both. Seriously.
- 1:34:33Well, thank me for writing and editing and producing and
- 1:34:37hosting the show. Thanks to Stacy Rosen for
- 1:34:40writing the theme music for the show.
- 1:34:42Ryan, how's Stacy doing? She's she's good.
- 1:34:46I could run downstairs and ask her, but the last time I saw
- 1:34:48her, she was playing Tetris and doing very well.
- 1:34:51OK, well, hey, that's great. Yeah.
- 1:34:53Thanks to Richard Gomez for doing the host artwork for the
- 1:34:56show. Thanks to Katie Lynn Miller for
- 1:35:00writing our transcripts. Thanks to Joe Hannis, The Tough
- 1:35:03Pigs Muppet fan, podcast executive producer.
- 1:35:07And of course, thanks to Betty Lou.
- 1:35:12And lastly, thanks to all of you at home for being with us on
- 1:35:16Habawa, The Muppet Quiz Show. And as always, Betty Lou loves
- 1:35:21the xylophone, orange juice, baseball overalls, Go Karts and
- 1:35:26her best friend Luis. Good night everybody.
- 1:35:32Good night, Betty Lou. But there is one thing special
- 1:35:37which everyone agrees except for me.
- 1:35:39And I don't agree. Oh, you do so.
- 1:35:41I do not. You're just silly.
