- 1:00[SPEAKER_01]: The gift is not just for Christmas time, though.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_01]: It actually doesn't make any insinuations or any immediate application to Christmas, besides the fact that the gift is God's son.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: It talks about in the very beginning of this gospel church, it says, you'd be surprised if you knew how many blessings God wants to give you.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_01]: All of these gifts are found in the gift of God, his own dear son, Jesus Christ,
- 1:27[SPEAKER_01]: And then, this gospel tract has one of the most famous Bible verses of all time.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_01]: You may recall it.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: For God, so love the world.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_01]: That He gave.

- 2:02[SPEAKER_01]: We're in first Samuel chapter number 17.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: First Samuel chapter 17.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm excited to close out as we could broadcast.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_01]: We've been talking about David, talking about Goliath, talking about the battle, royale that happened there in the Valley of Ela.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go ahead and pick up in first Samuel chapter 17.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see here.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_01]: Let's look at verse number 37, first Samuel 1737, David said more over the Lord that delivered me out of the paw of the line, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: and Saul said unto David, go and the Lord be with thee.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_01]: Remember that David is the youngest of eight brothers.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_01]: His three eldest brothers are at a battle with a Philistines and Jesse David's father sends him with some food to resupply his brothers and when he gets there, a giant of a man named Goliath comes over the other mountain top across the valley and just starts reaming out the Israelites and and just says all sorts of things including things
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: that are absolutely blasphemous to the God of heaven.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_01]: Verse number 38, and Saul armed David with his armor.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_01]: And he put an helmet of brass upon his head.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_01]: Also, he armed him with a coat of mail pause.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_01]: If we just a moment, we've talked about the theme and the thought of this week is been that we need to declare
- 3:26[SPEAKER_01]: War and there are some things that we need to clear war on we won't have time for those today But there's a way in which we need to declare war.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: We need to be available.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_01]: We need to be aggressive We need to be ready to today take up arms.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_01]: We've talked about these other things about being available and being aggressive and all of those types of things Taking action, but right here in this passage We need to take up arms.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_01]: They say hold up a moment brother Micah
- 3:54[SPEAKER_01]: David did not use Saul's armor.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_01]: You're absolutely right.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: And here's the point.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_01]: I'd like to draw out of this passage for just a moment here.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_01]: You need to take up the right type of arms.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: Put on the right kind of armor.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_01]: Specifically, I'm talking about
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: the sword of the word of God.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I was just reading from.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_01]: Friend, if you think you can confront the world of flesh and the devil.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: If you think you can legitimately and realistically declare war on that trifecta, the world of flesh and the devil, and then be successful without daily, without habitually bathing yourself in God's word.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_01]: friend, you've got a tall order ahead of you.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: To think that you can go unprepared into battle, that's a fool's errand.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_01]: And yet, David almost was convinced to put on the wrong armor.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_01]: Saul tried to dress him in his armor.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_01]: We talked the other day about how tall Saul was, how big of a man he was.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_01]: and Saul tried to put his arm on David, verse 39, and David girded his sword upon his armor, and he had say to go, for he had not proved, he said, I don't want this, David said, sudden, Saul, I cannot go with these, for I have not proved them, and David put them off him.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_01]: He said, these aren't my arms, these aren't, this isn't my arm, where this isn't the type of thing I use, verse number 40.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_01]: and he took his staff in his hand and chose him five smooth stones out of the book and put them in a shepherd's bag which he had even the script and his slaying was in his hand and he drew near to the Philistine.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_01]: Now imagine this here.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_01]: He is going to face off with this Philistine.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: He's available, David is.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_01]: He's aggressive absolutely and now we double back to what we ended on yesterday.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: He's about to take action.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_01]: friend, if God's convicting you about some senior life that you need to declare war on, can I encourage you to just go ahead and make that decision today?
- 5:52[SPEAKER_01]: You just go ahead and declare war to take action, stop nurturing, nurturing, stop nourishing, stop giving place to the devil.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_01]: You think about that?
- 6:02[SPEAKER_01]: When it talks about not giving place to the devil in the New Testament, it talks about that word place means the Greek word is topos, or it means topography.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_01]: It's the root where I should say that we get the word topography.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_01]: When you give place to the devil,
- 6:18[SPEAKER_01]: you are literally giving him to poverty.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_01]: You're literally giving geography.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_01]: You're literally giving him land.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_01]: You're allowing him to set up shop in your life.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: As a Christian, why would we ever do that?
- 6:31[SPEAKER_01]: We need to take action.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_01]: We need to root him out now.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_01]: Are we going to have to make some decisions day by day?
- 6:37[SPEAKER_01]: Are we going to have to declare war day by day?
- 6:39[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you have absolutely, we will, but it's worth the battle.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_01]: First number 41, and the Philistine came on and drew near unto David.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_01]: and the man that bear the shield went before him, first 42, and when the Philistine looked about and saw David, he disdained him for he was buddy youth, and ready and have a fair countenance, and the Philistine stood in to David, and am I a dog that thou comeest to me with staves, and the Philistine cursed David by his gods, and the Philistine stood to David come to me, and I won't give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air into the beasts of the field.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_01]: Then said David to the Philistine, get this, thou come as to me with a sword and with a spear and with a shield, but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts the God of the armies of Israel whom thou hastified, part of me thinks that David would have gone and tackled Goliath with his bare hands if he would had to to make this man shut up and stop saying these foolish things that he was saying.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_01]: He would have gone out there and just tried to twist his head off like a cork David would have because he was going with God's strength.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_01]: He continues on.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_01]: Verse 46 in this day, will the Lord deliver thee into my hand?
- 7:54[SPEAKER_01]: and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee, and I will give the carcass of the carcasses of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fouls of the air into the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in heaven, and all this assembly, get this, all this assembly shall know that the Lord's saviath not with sword and spear for the battle is the Lord's, and he will give you into our hands.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_01]: Now, if you're looking for another little outline here of this chapter, if you go back to verse number 29, David said, what have I now done?
- 8:26[SPEAKER_01]: Is there not a cause?
- 8:27[SPEAKER_01]: He was talking to his brethren, talking to the men of Israel?
- 8:30[SPEAKER_01]: That's the question.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_01]: Then we see, in verse number 32, David said to Saul, let no man's heart fail because of him that he will go and fight with his Philistine.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: That's the decision.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_01]: Then, first number 40, he took his staff in his hand and chose him five smooth stones out of the book.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_01]: That's the preparation.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_01]: And then we see here, in verse number 48, the action.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_01]: It came to pass when the Philistine arose and came and drew Nye to meet David that David hasted and ran toward the army.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_01]: to meet the Philistine.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_01]: David put his hand in his bag and took then to stone.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_01]: You can imagine this.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_01]: I imagine like a commentator or something's watching.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_01]: And David's there running towards the Philistine and took then to stone sling it.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_01]: The Bible says, love that word, sling it and smote the Philistine in his forehead that the stone sunk into his forehead and he fell upon his face to the earth.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_01]: Imagine, have you ever heard a soccer, or was it called a rest of the football football, a soccer commentator just say, go and just absolutely effusive with praise for this amazing goal that happened to the sort of excited probably for the home team, right?
- 9:40[SPEAKER_01]: Go!
- 9:41[SPEAKER_01]: Imagine a commentator watching this and David just slang that slang that's stone in boom and the giant goes
- 9:51[SPEAKER_01]: Verse 50.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_01]: So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone and smoke the Philistine and slew him, but there was no sword in the hand of David.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_01]: Think about this.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_01]: Back in that day, being good with a sword, being strong with a sword, having a sword in your hand, that was a signal of strength.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_01]: Just like these days, a gun is not necessarily a simple strength, but if you have a gun and I don't have a gun, I can tell you, I'm
- 10:20[SPEAKER_01]: Well, in this day, a sword was the same type of thing taking up arms, and David prevailed over the guy with a massive sword and killed him.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: But the Bible is very clear to point out that David didn't have a sword.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_01]: Frank, can I encourage you to take action even if your arms don't look like a whole lot?
- 10:37[SPEAKER_01]: Your armament doesn't look like a whole lot in the world's eyes.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_01]: God can do much with you.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_01]: I've heard it said this way, that you and God make a majority.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_01]: But here's the cool thing, he doesn't even need you.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_01]: You and God make a majority, but he doesn't even need you to make a majority.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_01]: He's a majority all by himself.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_01]: Verse 51, therefore David ran and stood upon the Philistine and took his sword and drew it out of the sheet thereof and slew him and cut off his head there with and when the Philistine saw their champion was dead, they fled.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_01]: See, when you take on the giants of the world, sometimes it'll be difficult.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_01]: Not all the time, are you going to defeat the giant in one afternoon, okay?
- 11:19[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes it's a day-by-day thing, but when you finally kill that giant dead.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_01]: It's amazing how a lot of the other smaller things in life, the other problems, they seem to dissipate, they seem to go away.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_01]: It's amazing to me that when we're willing to take on the big problems of life, and stop scurtin' around the edges and dealing with symptoms and all that type of stuff when we go right to the root of a problem, it's amazing how
- 11:44[SPEAKER_01]: all the symptoms seem to go away so quickly.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_01]: 1.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_01]: 1.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_01]: 1.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_01]: Question is, today, the world has already declared war on you.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_01]: The question is, what do you want to do?
- 12:11[SPEAKER_01]: What will you do?
- 12:12[SPEAKER_01]: Will you declare war?
- 12:13[SPEAKER_01]: Remember, the Pearl Harbor, when the Japanese attack in 1941, then very next day, FDR.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_01]: Sat there in front of Congress and he declared war back.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_01]: He said, they declared war, we're coming for you.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_01]: This is a day that will live in infamy, but we're coming for you.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_01]: Friend, what are you going to do with sin?
- 12:31[SPEAKER_01]: Are you going to continue to succumb?
- 12:33[SPEAKER_01]: Are you going to continue to fall?
- 12:35[SPEAKER_01]: Continue to falter?
- 12:37[SPEAKER_01]: Or will you declare war?
- 12:39[SPEAKER_01]: What will you do?
- 12:41[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much for tuning in.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_01]: Have a great day for his glory.
