- 0:05Speaker 1: Thirteen ten, Wiba Madison In the morning, Sean along with
- 0:08Speaker 1: Katie in a familiar voice, joining us this morning one
- 0:11Speaker 1: only Brian Ziegler with bad Runner Fly chairperson, Brian, how
- 0:15Speaker 1: you doing this morning?
- 0:16Speaker 2: I'm doing really great. I can't put you know, yeah,
- 0:19Speaker 2: in a bad position with all those nice weather we're
- 0:21Speaker 2: having you.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Yeah, you got really lucky with this with kind of
- 0:26Speaker 1: this the weather, the way that it's been holding up. Now,
- 0:29Speaker 1: correct me if I'm wrong. And Katie, you had your
- 0:32Speaker 1: recent flight. You guys did have some right, didn't you, Katie?
- 0:34Speaker 3: Yes, we did later half of the day and it
- 0:36Speaker 3: was very hot.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Yes, so this stuff, this weather's probably little nicer. The
- 0:42Speaker 1: cool thing too, Brian, is you guys with the Badge
- 0:45Speaker 1: Runner flight. You guys are prepared for everything, aren't you.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Yes, we are, and Katie will attest we had honchos
- 0:52Speaker 2: that we broke out numerous times, along with umbrellas.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I bet, and I guess it's probably the probably
- 0:58Speaker 1: the military background and and very prepared for these type
- 1:01Speaker 1: of things. You guys have an upcoming flight coming up
- 1:04Speaker 1: October eleventh, so it's just a few days from now.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Let's talk about that flight and future flight says, well,
- 1:10Speaker 1: I know last time we talked, the big push for
- 1:13Speaker 1: you was to make sure that that veterans became aware
- 1:17Speaker 1: of the opportunity. You really want to get those get
- 1:19Speaker 1: those flights filled, don't you, Brian.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Yes, we do. We are actively working on twenty six
- 1:25Speaker 2: plans right now and we are looking to get more
- 1:28Speaker 2: veterans signed up for our flights next year.
- 1:30Speaker 1: How does that how does that process work? What's what's
- 1:33Speaker 1: the best way for veterans to do that?
- 1:37Speaker 2: The easiest way is to go to our website bedgrounniflight
- 1:40Speaker 2: dot org or the applications page. A couple of routes
- 1:44Speaker 2: you can do still the one online or you could
- 1:47Speaker 2: print off a PDF copy, fill it out and then
- 1:50Speaker 2: mail it into us. And if anybody else just needs assistance,
- 1:55Speaker 2: will be more than give us a call, email us.
- 1:58Speaker 2: We'll be more and glad to help you out with
- 2:01Speaker 2: one of our volunteers. We want to glad to do that.
- 2:03Speaker 2: You know what, we also go ahead?
- 2:05Speaker 1: Oh, I was going to say, I was going to say.
- 2:06Speaker 1: One of the things that that's really impressive about your
- 2:09Speaker 1: organization is you guys really do everything to make sure
- 2:12Speaker 1: that that vets are able to do this stuff, bending
- 2:15Speaker 1: over backwards, going through extreme lengths to make sure that
- 2:18Speaker 1: that they're able to do that, And I just wanted
- 2:20Speaker 1: to I want to highlight that. What were you going
- 2:22Speaker 1: to say there, Brian.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Yes, because we also are being very active out there.
- 2:27Speaker 2: We've had a lot of great response to the request
- 2:31Speaker 2: that gone out. We're setting up a lot of information
- 2:35Speaker 2: boosts at at festivals, or we've got car shows that
- 2:40Speaker 2: we've been studying up. So those are really great opportunities
- 2:46Speaker 2: for us to meet veterans, their families, get veterans signed up,
- 2:49Speaker 2: listen to stories of veterans who have gone on a flight.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Oh if anybody you know, those are other opportunities for
- 2:55Speaker 2: veterans to get signed up.
- 2:56Speaker 1: So again, a lot of opportunities out there. Mentioned the
- 2:59Speaker 1: website your Honor Flight dot org. That's bad your Honor
- 3:03Speaker 1: Flight dot orgon one of the great things too that
- 3:05Speaker 1: comes of this. Obviously, most of the time the volunteers
- 3:09Speaker 1: and the and the and the guardians are our family members.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Sometimes they're not. They're not necessarily either. They're just folks
- 3:17Speaker 1: that are that are along to help and and able
- 3:20Speaker 1: to do that. Katie, you had that opportunity and one
- 3:22Speaker 1: of the cool things that comes out of this is
- 3:24Speaker 1: is kind of getting to know a vet, getting getting
- 3:27Speaker 1: a perspective that you may not have had. And I know,
- 3:29Speaker 1: take Katie on your flight, You and your veteran had
- 3:32Speaker 1: a really good time, and really you had a great
- 3:34Speaker 1: opportunity to learn a little bit, didn't you.
- 3:36Speaker 3: I did. Yeah, So I I had never met him
- 3:38Speaker 3: before the day of the flight. We just had a
- 3:41Speaker 3: phone conversation a few days before, and then Yeah, went
- 3:44Speaker 3: in and met him that morning. Bill and I just
- 3:48Speaker 3: I knew from the first second that I sat down
- 3:50Speaker 3: next to him that we were gonna have a really
- 3:52Speaker 3: good time together that day. We definitely clicked. He was super,
- 3:56Speaker 3: super sweet. I saw parts of both of my grandpa's
- 3:59Speaker 3: in him, lots of similarities. Like one of my grandfathers
- 4:02Speaker 3: was in the Air Force. That's where he did most
- 4:04Speaker 3: of his time. He knew everything there was to know
- 4:08Speaker 3: about airplanes, so he was teaching me things all day.
- 4:11Speaker 3: It was really really great time. And he hadn't been
- 4:15Speaker 3: to DC since the sixties. I think he'd only been
- 4:18Speaker 3: one time, as he said, in the sixties, and I've
- 4:21Speaker 3: been four or five times, and so it was kind
- 4:23Speaker 3: of it worked out well that I could really try
- 4:27Speaker 3: to take the time to show him everything he really
- 4:29Speaker 3: wanted to see and not have to worry about myself
- 4:32Speaker 3: as much because it was a little more been there,
- 4:34Speaker 3: done that for me. But I really got to just
- 4:36Speaker 3: make the day all about him and what he wanted
- 4:38Speaker 3: to see and going at his pace and things like that.
- 4:41Speaker 1: And Brian, that's really part of when it comes to
- 4:43Speaker 1: badge your honor flight, something you guys really work hard
- 4:45Speaker 1: to do, isn't it.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Yes, we do. And Katie, you did a great job
- 4:49Speaker 2: that day. Thank you for remembering everything that we taught
- 4:53Speaker 2: you in training. But yes, the day is all about
- 4:55Speaker 2: the veteran and is their experience. I'm jealous of the
- 5:01Speaker 2: stories you got to listen with Bill there so that
- 5:06Speaker 2: I get some of those stories. But for you to
- 5:08Speaker 2: have that intimate setting with him at any time, Yeah,
- 5:12Speaker 2: we we. It's all about the veterans and what it
- 5:17Speaker 2: means to them every veteran. We've talked about this in
- 5:20Speaker 2: the past, sean is no veteran experience is the same,
- 5:24Speaker 2: and that's what's unique about the program.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Well, I want to ask you to Brian, as we
- 5:28Speaker 1: talked this morning with Brian Ziegeler with Badger Honor Flight.
- 5:32Speaker 1: What about volunteers for the events themselves, obviously the send
- 5:35Speaker 1: off the return. I know you there's a ton of
- 5:37Speaker 1: work you mentioned going out into the communities and getting
- 5:41Speaker 1: folks signed up. That requires a lot of a lot
- 5:44Speaker 1: of leg power, a lot of leg work, a lot
- 5:46Speaker 1: of a lot of bodies, And I know you guys
- 5:50Speaker 1: look for volunteers as well, and that's something that for
- 5:53Speaker 1: folks that are interested maybe sharing experience or or really
- 5:56Speaker 1: helping get the word out. You guys have some great
- 5:59Speaker 1: up tunities for folks as well, don't you.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Yes, we do. We have. As you mentioned, the stend
- 6:05Speaker 2: Off Welcome Home are two great opportunities for veterans to
- 6:09Speaker 2: get signed up. We've talked about working at our helping
- 6:12Speaker 2: trying to raise fun and Badger on a flight awareness
- 6:16Speaker 2: before Badger football teams manning these information tables, but we
- 6:21Speaker 2: also need folks to help with all the administrative work,
- 6:24Speaker 2: and we're actually looking to One of our board members
- 6:28Speaker 2: is stepping away at the end of the year, so
- 6:30Speaker 2: we're actually if anybody wants to become a part of
- 6:32Speaker 2: the board, we have an opening there as well.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Oh, that is fantastic. All the details available Badger Honor
- 6:38Speaker 1: flight dot org. That's Badger Honor flight dot org. Before
- 6:42Speaker 1: we conclude this morning, Brian, I did want to ask
- 6:45Speaker 1: about fundraising in general. And one of the things that
- 6:48Speaker 1: I think is really really great that you guys do
- 6:51Speaker 1: is there's a lot of different opportunities for putting, whether
- 6:56Speaker 1: it's sponsoring a specifics part of the whether it's the
- 7:00Speaker 1: lunches or other things. You guys really have a number
- 7:03Speaker 1: of opportunities sponsorship opportunities for folks or businesses that are
- 7:07Speaker 1: so inclined, don't you.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Yes, we do. We have everything from sponsoring the snacks
- 7:13Speaker 2: on the trip or sponsoring the lunch the dinners. One
- 7:17Speaker 2: that I really want to call out is that this
- 7:20Speaker 2: next flight, as we talked, last flight was sponsored by Copies.
- 7:23Speaker 2: This next one is the group out of stock Prairie
- 7:26Speaker 2: called Here's for Honor. This will be the fourth flight
- 7:30Speaker 2: that they will have their flight, their name on a
- 7:33Speaker 2: flight sponsorship. They have raised half a million dollars plus
- 7:38Speaker 2: in the stock Prairie community in the past ten years
- 7:41Speaker 2: for us.
- 7:41Speaker 1: That is incredible, That is amazing. That is great to hear.
- 7:45Speaker 1: And do you get as we talk about groups that
- 7:48Speaker 1: kind of come together, whether maybe it's office office team
- 7:51Speaker 1: or other things. Do you get individuals or groups that
- 7:54Speaker 1: kind of get together on their own and say, we're
- 7:56Speaker 1: going to put together a fundraiser. Maybe it's a a
- 8:00Speaker 1: weekend event or something like that where they kind of
- 8:03Speaker 1: pool stuff together to donate.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Too bad Your on a Flight, Yes, I do, and
- 8:07Speaker 2: that is actually really starting to increase for us, which
- 8:10Speaker 2: is great because it's toothful raises funds for us, but
- 8:13Speaker 2: more importantly brings awareness to our program and exposes us
- 8:17Speaker 2: and we get better and signed up and we raise
- 8:21Speaker 2: a little bit of money. That's a win win for both.
- 8:24Speaker 1: It's such a fantastic organization, great day to day. If
- 8:27Speaker 1: you are in the position to make a monetary donation,
- 8:30Speaker 1: maybe you're looking to do a little fundraising, maybe you'd
- 8:32Speaker 1: like to volunteer, maybe you've got some experience helping with organizations.
- 8:36Speaker 1: They've got an opportunity on their board as well. You
- 8:39Speaker 1: can learn more online the website for Badgeer on a Flight.
- 8:41Speaker 1: It's just that Badger Honor Flight all one word Badger
- 8:44Speaker 1: Honorflight dot org. All that information online and Brian, I
- 8:48Speaker 1: know you guys have a flight coming up on the eleventh,
- 8:50Speaker 1: should be perfect weather. Should be a great, great trip.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Look forward to seeing all the pictures, all the smiling
- 8:55Speaker 1: faces and hearing some of those stories as well. Brian
- 8:58Speaker 1: Ziggler with Badger on a Flight, Thank you for all
- 8:59Speaker 1: the work and you have a great day. Thank you, Sean,
