- 0:16Speaker 1: Excited to visit right now with Aaron Levissa and he
- 0:19Speaker 1: is the gentleman in charge of the Sioux Falls Independence
- 0:22Speaker 1: Day Parade. And Aaron, first of all, thank you for
- 0:25Speaker 1: stepping up when the parade was going to go away.
- 0:27Speaker 1: You stepped up to make sure that did not happen.
- 0:30Speaker 1: It not only is back, it's back and bigger and
- 0:33Speaker 1: maybe better than ever. I think we've got more floats
- 0:36Speaker 1: in this parade, I think than they've ever had in
- 0:38Speaker 1: the Independence Day parade.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Oh, thank you so much. John. Well, as you know,
- 0:42Speaker 2: I wasn't the only one. I want to tell you.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Thank you and everybody with the committee that stepped up
- 0:48Speaker 2: and we're all doing it together as a team effort. Yeah,
- 0:51Speaker 2: it's going to be big. It's going to be a
- 0:52Speaker 2: big deal.
- 0:53Speaker 1: It has been a lot of fun to work with
- 0:54Speaker 1: the people on this team as well, and some of
- 0:56Speaker 1: them I have known for years, and others I have
- 0:59Speaker 1: just met because of this, but I can tell you
- 1:01Speaker 1: each and every one of them amazing people. And it's
- 1:03Speaker 1: been a lot of fun to get to know you
- 1:04Speaker 1: a little bit better too, because we've known each other
- 1:06Speaker 1: for years. But you know, we didn't hang out as
- 1:07Speaker 1: much as we have in the last six months working
- 1:09Speaker 1: on a parade.
- 1:10Speaker 2: It's right, and it's been really wonderful and I really
- 1:13Speaker 2: enjoyed it too, John, And again, people are going to
- 1:16Speaker 2: love this parade, and then after that, of course they're
- 1:18Speaker 2: going to love the Two Falls fireworks. Maybe you've heard
- 1:21Speaker 2: of that.
- 1:21Speaker 1: I have heard of that, and that's where I'm going
- 1:23Speaker 1: to be most of the day today is getting the
- 1:25Speaker 1: stage set and ready at the wh Line Fairgrounds. But
- 1:28Speaker 1: I wanted to spend some time right now talking to
- 1:31Speaker 1: you about the parade because we've got a bunch of
- 1:34Speaker 1: people that are asking questions, where can I go to
- 1:36Speaker 1: watch it? What time do we need to be there.
- 1:38Speaker 1: We've got all the floats are done, so if you
- 1:40Speaker 1: didn't get your float entered, you missed it. There was
- 1:42Speaker 1: a deadline, and again I think there were a couple
- 1:44Speaker 1: of people that snuck in at the very end, but again,
- 1:46Speaker 1: we appreciate everybody, and there's a limit that the city
- 1:49Speaker 1: will allow us to have. We can have no more
- 1:51Speaker 1: than one hundred floats, and we are right up bumping
- 1:54Speaker 1: our head on that number. So it's going to be
- 1:56Speaker 1: a big, big, big parade tomorrow. What time does the
- 1:59Speaker 1: parade start and where should I go if I want
- 2:01Speaker 1: to be a really good spectator?
- 2:03Speaker 2: Well, first off, the parade is downtown Phillips Avenue ten
- 2:07Speaker 2: am it begins, and so if you want to be
- 2:09Speaker 2: a good spectator and enjoy it, you want to get
- 2:12Speaker 2: there maybe a little early, and also make sure that
- 2:14Speaker 2: you've got sunscreen, a hat if you've got it, or
- 2:18Speaker 2: in any kind of protection, because you know, it could
- 2:20Speaker 2: be very very warm, and we just want to make
- 2:22Speaker 2: sure everybody enjoys it, but it is also safe. But
- 2:24Speaker 2: it's going to be a great time. It's going to
- 2:26Speaker 2: go from ten am to noon and it's just going
- 2:28Speaker 2: to be a fun, wonderful advance.
- 2:31Speaker 1: In the parade. Again, Downtown Seo falls mainly on Phillips Avenue,
- 2:35Speaker 1: and if you get down anywhere on Phillips Avenue and
- 2:37Speaker 1: the main heart of downtown Seo falls, you'll be in
- 2:40Speaker 1: a good place. There's some kind of hotspots that might
- 2:42Speaker 1: be kind of a neat place to be. I know,
- 2:44Speaker 1: the courthouse, the Federal Courthouse courtyard that is where the
- 2:49Speaker 1: mayor is going to do a proclamation kind of in
- 2:51Speaker 1: that area, right at the beginning of the parade. So
- 2:54Speaker 1: that wouldn't be a bad place to hang out because
- 2:55Speaker 1: then you could hear what he has to say and
- 2:57Speaker 1: that proclamation that's kind of a neat thing that you
- 2:59Speaker 1: would had a chance to put together.
- 3:01Speaker 2: To Aaron, yes, I did, and it was it's going
- 3:03Speaker 2: to be wonderful. Yeah, So the mayor is going to
- 3:05Speaker 2: go ahead and read that at about nine point fifty.
- 3:07Speaker 2: I might start and have some introductory remarks just a
- 3:10Speaker 2: few minutes before that. So we're really okay. Yes, the
- 3:14Speaker 2: prey begins, it's at ten o'clock, but maryton Aken will
- 3:17Speaker 2: be right in front of the Federal Courthouse building and
- 3:19Speaker 2: he'll be basically reading the proclamation that I wrote for it,
- 3:23Speaker 2: and he's very excited because he's going to be in
- 3:25Speaker 2: it as well, and it's going to be just it's
- 3:27Speaker 2: it's just going to be great. Yeah.
- 3:29Speaker 1: And again, we've got just under one hundred floats. It'll
- 3:31Speaker 1: be going through and folks cannot throw candy, but they
- 3:34Speaker 1: can hand candy out.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Is that right? Correct? And they and our pary does
- 3:38Speaker 2: folks know this? And the you know, suit Ball's police
- 3:41Speaker 2: as you know, has already you know, kind of told
- 3:43Speaker 2: everybody make sure that happens to the city ordinance and everything.
- 3:46Speaker 2: But you know, even beyond that, we've got you know,
- 3:49Speaker 2: the food truck madness down at the end over in
- 3:52Speaker 2: the Ravens parking lot there to John just want to
- 3:55Speaker 2: mention that because that's going to be amazing food trucks.
- 3:57Speaker 1: And music, absolutely, And I wanted to let folks know
- 4:01Speaker 1: about the candy because you know, again there are some
- 4:03Speaker 1: people who go, well they can't throw candy anymore, but
- 4:06Speaker 1: they can still hand it out. So if you got
- 4:08Speaker 1: kiddo's and they want candy, be sure to bring them.
- 4:10Speaker 1: I guarantee there's going to be quite a bit of
- 4:12Speaker 1: candy there. And then I do want to make sure
- 4:13Speaker 1: we talk about the food truck man and this afterwards,
- 4:16Speaker 1: and that is in is it the raven parking lot?
- 4:18Speaker 1: Is that right?
- 4:19Speaker 2: That's correct, It's going to be down there and our
- 4:21Speaker 2: committee members on is taking care of that. It's going
- 4:24Speaker 2: to be a bunch of food trucks and live music. Yeah,
- 4:27Speaker 2: and it's just going to be a neat place that's
- 4:30Speaker 2: going to actually go on till one thirty, so that'll
- 4:31Speaker 2: be after the parade itself is done. And there's going
- 4:34Speaker 2: to be some face painting down by the food trucks
- 4:37Speaker 2: as well as over by ferns and brewing on the
- 4:39Speaker 2: main parade route during the parade. Yeah, so face painting
- 4:42Speaker 2: for the kids or adults. I guess that they want it.
- 4:45Speaker 1: There you go, and they use a really nice, long
- 4:48Speaker 1: lasting paint that won't come off till fall. No, it'll
- 4:52Speaker 1: come off right away. No, come out and have some
- 4:54Speaker 1: fun with us tomorrow. It is going to be a
- 4:56Speaker 1: really good time. Again, Aaron, thank you for all the
- 4:58Speaker 1: time and effort you put into this. It makes a
- 5:01Speaker 1: big difference when you've got a group of people who
- 5:03Speaker 1: care about this type of thing being in charge of it.
- 5:07Speaker 1: And again you're going to be able to tell a
- 5:09Speaker 1: difference at this parade tomorrow, I guarantee it.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Well, Thank you, John, and thank you so much for
- 5:13Speaker 2: all your leadership and all the rest of the committee.
- 5:15Speaker 2: And yes, two falls, come on out and enjoy and
- 5:18Speaker 2: celebrate America. Sooner and fiftieth birthday, and.
- 5:21Speaker 1: We couldn't do any of this without sponsors. So I
- 5:23Speaker 1: want to say a big, huge thank you to the
- 5:25Speaker 1: Mary Chilton Chapter of the DAR, the Daughters of the
- 5:28Speaker 1: American Revolution, that was one of the first groups that
- 5:30Speaker 1: stepped up in a big way to say, hey, we
- 5:32Speaker 1: want to make sure this continues. So big thank you
- 5:34Speaker 1: to them, and also Premier Bank Card and Premieer Bank.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Big thank you to them for stepping up in a
- 5:40Speaker 1: big way. And I know there's many other sponsors as well,
- 5:42Speaker 1: but those are kind of the two big ones, and
- 5:44Speaker 1: we couldn't do it without the financial support. Because these parades,
- 5:48Speaker 1: you'd think, oh, it's just a parade, there's no expense.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Oh there's a lot of expense. The insurance people get involved,
- 5:52Speaker 1: the city make sure we have everything nights and safe
- 5:54Speaker 1: with roadblocks, and that's an expense. So again, it all
- 5:57Speaker 1: adds up. And a huge thank you all the sponsors
- 5:59Speaker 1: for stepping up. And were you surprised how how many
- 6:02Speaker 1: people stepped up because it was a big deal.
- 6:04Speaker 2: I was. And I also want to say thank you
- 6:05Speaker 2: to all of our two fifty for two fifty club members,
- 6:09Speaker 2: just regular citizens, some of them won't even be able
- 6:12Speaker 2: to watch the parade, but they believed in it enough
- 6:14Speaker 2: just financially support it. But thank thank them.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Is there still room if somebody wants to become a
- 6:19Speaker 1: two to fifty club member, It's.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Always room for that. We'll always take that because again,
- 6:23Speaker 2: all the money is going to go towards next year's parade.
- 6:25Speaker 2: We're not making a dime off of it, and we
- 6:27Speaker 2: wouldn't want to.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Absolutely, And if you would like to join the two
- 6:30Speaker 1: fifty for two to fifty club, you can do that
- 6:32Speaker 1: right on the website SF Independence Parade dot Com And Aaron,
- 6:37Speaker 1: I have typed that wrong about a dozen times. Google
- 6:40Speaker 1: always gets me to the right place. So the good
- 6:41Speaker 1: news is, folks, if you don't remember that, if you
- 6:43Speaker 1: type in something close, even a monkey can do it,
- 6:46Speaker 1: because I've done that and I always get to the
- 6:47Speaker 1: right place. But SF Independence Parade dot Com. Aaron, thank
