- 0:00Speaker 1: Let's talk about this hustle culture. So I saw a
- 0:03Speaker 1: clip on Instagram. I thought was interested, let's play this clip.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Please, hustle culture and cruel optimism. It leads to a
- 0:09Speaker 2: lot of crazy things for black folks, like exhaustion.
- 0:11Speaker 3: Here's an article from the Time.
- 0:13Speaker 2: It says that the hustle is an idea, a discourse,
- 0:16Speaker 2: and a survival strategy, often glorified as economic opportunity. It
- 0:20Speaker 2: is an ode to a type of capitalism that cannot
- 0:24Speaker 2: secure the futures.
- 0:25Speaker 3: Of anyone but the wealthiest.
- 0:27Speaker 2: But it's popularity lies and now hustling can feel like
- 0:30Speaker 2: an equal opportunity struggle.
- 0:33Speaker 3: Okay.
- 0:34Speaker 1: In that clip, and shout out to that brother Charlotte,
- 0:37Speaker 1: he does a lot of like political different takes, so
- 0:43Speaker 1: he pretty much was saying that, you know what I've
- 0:46Speaker 1: been hearing a lot as far as on Instagram social media,
- 0:49Speaker 1: that the hustle culture is a trap to keep people unhappy.
- 0:58Speaker 1: You're never really gonna really reach the level of wealth
- 1:01Speaker 1: that you know, my times out of ten that you're
- 1:03Speaker 1: really going. So it's just a treadmill that we've brought
- 1:06Speaker 1: into to kind of feel like, you know, we're running
- 1:10Speaker 1: a race to know where type thing and yeah, you know,
- 1:14Speaker 1: the traps of capitalism and it's really the only design
- 1:17Speaker 1: for the top one percent to get wealthy and all
- 1:20Speaker 1: of that.
- 1:21Speaker 3: Yeah, So I.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Saw that, and like I said, I saw other people
- 1:25Speaker 1: kind of like you know, I've been seeing this a
- 1:26Speaker 1: lot that theory.
- 1:30Speaker 3: It triggered you.
- 1:33Speaker 1: I wouldn't say, huh.
- 1:38Speaker 3: We get we gonna get through it.
- 1:39Speaker 1: We're gonna get through it at that point, I wouldn't
- 1:44Speaker 1: say that it triggered me, but it was something that
- 1:48Speaker 1: I think was worth talking about from a different perspective
- 1:52Speaker 1: stoicism and the answer, I love it for sure, for sure.
- 1:55Speaker 1: So I have I have some I have some pointed
- 1:58Speaker 1: opinions on that.
- 1:59Speaker 3: But do you have opinions of course.
- 2:07Speaker 1: On the positive side, let's sandwich the situation. On the
- 2:10Speaker 1: positive side. Well, it's like the negative First, I understand
- 2:14Speaker 1: what they're saying by the connotation that you need balance,
- 2:18Speaker 1: you do need rest, you do have to make time
- 2:22Speaker 1: for family and friends. But in every society it takes
- 2:26Speaker 1: capital to make reality come true.
- 2:30Speaker 3: I think one of.
- 2:31Speaker 1: The biggest things that is I talked about is like
- 2:33Speaker 1: you have to put individual hustle into a system or
- 2:37Speaker 1: business that allows you to scale. Now, if I'm on
- 2:39Speaker 1: Canal Street selling fake Ferragamo bags, probably not the best business.
- 2:43Speaker 1: But the idea that you can just like lay on
- 2:45Speaker 1: the beach, everything's automated, click funnel funnel hack, growth hack
- 2:51Speaker 1: your way to it does not work. How many people
- 2:54Speaker 1: have you met at investvest Robert Smith, Barack Obama who
- 3:00Speaker 1: should have been there?
- 3:00Speaker 3: Right?
- 3:01Speaker 1: None of these people are talking about growth tacking. They're
- 3:03Speaker 1: doing the work every day. Tyler Perry fifty cent. Yes,
- 3:07Speaker 1: you have systems, you have teams. But I think the
- 3:11Speaker 1: bigger issue, I think a lot of people are giving
- 3:13Speaker 1: up on the American dream and finding out that it
- 3:15Speaker 1: is an illusion in a nightmare. But the thing I
- 3:17Speaker 1: was talking about Barber about yesterday, man, the cost of
- 3:21Speaker 1: living is going up so much. Like even for everyone
- 3:23Speaker 1: who Matt posts this, if you'll wait on the rate decrease,
- 3:27Speaker 1: well you finally got the rate decrease, But the five
- 3:29Speaker 1: hundred thousand dollars house you not want it is now
- 3:31Speaker 1: seven ninety five, so you're paying the same thing. So
- 3:33Speaker 1: if you don't hustle in this environment that you're in,
- 3:38Speaker 1: you're going to be on the wrong side of history
- 3:40Speaker 1: and you're financially not going to be in a good space,
- 3:41Speaker 1: and it's going to lead to a lot of depression.
- 3:44Speaker 1: But but what do you I know this is near
- 3:45Speaker 1: and did of your heart? What do you think?
- 3:49Speaker 3: So yeah, I think you know.
- 3:53Speaker 1: It's it's an interesting conversation because looking at it like,
- 3:57Speaker 1: all right, you know, this hustle thing is killing us
- 4:01Speaker 1: and it's counter productive and we wasn't meant to, you know,
- 4:04Speaker 1: live life like that. But I think they're not really
- 4:08Speaker 1: looking at it from a hustler's perspective. Like for me,
- 4:13Speaker 1: some people don't have an option. There is no really
- 4:15Speaker 1: no other option. You have to hustle that that's the
- 4:20Speaker 1: job requirement. So it's like, all right, when I started
- 4:23Speaker 1: working as a financial advisor, I didn't work for a
- 4:27Speaker 1: Wall Street firm. Work for an insurance company. So if
- 4:29Speaker 1: you're familiar with the difference Wall Street firms, you get
- 4:32Speaker 1: paid salary. From my situation, I got paid a commission.
- 4:36Speaker 1: That's how you make money, what you know, So it
- 4:41Speaker 1: was no option of not hustling. You don't have an
- 4:46Speaker 1: option not to hustle, like you got to hustle like
- 4:49Speaker 1: I never had, like a job where I'm getting a
- 4:51Speaker 1: salary and I can just work nine o'clock till five
- 4:55Speaker 1: o'clock and then leave and then go home. We had
- 4:59Speaker 1: to hustle starting what we started here early Aleisia, you
- 5:03Speaker 1: had the hustle, like you gotta do things like what
- 5:05Speaker 1: I mean, like that becomes a habit and that becomes
- 5:08Speaker 1: ingrained in you. And that's something that I think is
- 5:10Speaker 1: actually something that people don't fully appreciate. That's part of
- 5:14Speaker 1: the process, more so than even having the money or
- 5:18Speaker 1: having the freedom, Like I think that this dignity and
- 5:22Speaker 1: actually figure it's like it's like figuring out a math
- 5:24Speaker 1: problem puzzle. It's like a real you gotta go out.
- 5:27Speaker 1: It's no blueprint to this. There was no blueprint. When
- 5:30Speaker 1: I was a financial advisor, it was no blueprint. I
- 5:32Speaker 1: had to literally like I was all over. I had
- 5:34Speaker 1: to go to different neighborhoods. I had to go to churches,
- 5:37Speaker 1: I had to go to sororities. I was writing insurance
- 5:40Speaker 1: policies inside the project. I would go to the projects.
- 5:42Speaker 1: I would go anywhere because at the end of the day,
- 5:44Speaker 1: Chamber of Commerce ever trying to figure it out.
- 5:46Speaker 3: I didn't know.
- 5:47Speaker 1: And if I don't do it, then I'm I'm not
- 5:50Speaker 1: going to be successful. That wasn't an option. So I
- 5:52Speaker 1: had to kind of figure it out to be successful.
- 5:54Speaker 1: So as far as the hustle, I love the hustle.
- 5:57Speaker 1: So I'm always I'm always like looking at a little
- 6:00Speaker 1: different because I'm like, all right, you saying that that's
- 6:04Speaker 1: not what we meant to do, and it's a trap
- 6:06Speaker 1: and all of this.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Well, what's the alternative to just have a regular job.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Well that's a trap, right, you better you just now
- 6:14Speaker 1: you're making somebody else rich, you work, you expanding somebody
- 6:18Speaker 1: else's dream. Right, You're never going to have enough money
- 6:21Speaker 1: to ever have any level of financial security at all.
- 6:24Speaker 1: So which trap would you prefer? At least the trap?
- 6:28Speaker 1: One trap you can actually at the end of the day,
- 6:31Speaker 1: have some level of control of your of your own self,
- 6:34Speaker 1: your own financial freedom, your own if it works out.
- 6:38Speaker 1: So I just I just don't agree with that. I
- 6:41Speaker 1: don't I don't buy into that because I feel like
- 6:44Speaker 1: it's it's not like we're doing this because we just
- 6:50Speaker 1: want to get extremely wealthy.
- 6:52Speaker 3: That's part of it.
- 6:53Speaker 1: But another part of it is that I did not
- 6:55Speaker 1: want to work a job like I would have rather
- 6:59Speaker 1: I'm not working at job I'm not working a job,
- 7:02Speaker 1: like you know what I'm saying. And that's the point.
- 7:03Speaker 1: And that's okay too. It's like everybody's so judgmental. It's
- 7:06Speaker 1: like I shouldn't sharp said, don't judge me. I'm not
- 7:08Speaker 1: gonna judge you. I'm not gonna judge you if you
- 7:11Speaker 1: feel satisfied working a job. That's where I come from.
- 7:14Speaker 1: That's you know what I'm saying. That's the environment. We
- 7:16Speaker 1: come from, a blue class working environment. I understand that,
- 7:20Speaker 1: like you know what I'm saying. But I never wanted
- 7:24Speaker 1: to work a job ever. That was never in my
- 7:26Speaker 1: in my trajectory in life. So if you don't want
- 7:30Speaker 1: to work a job, you got you gotta hustle. You
- 7:32Speaker 1: gotta figure shit out, like you know what I'm saying.
- 7:34Speaker 1: You can't just expect to just check to just fall
- 7:37Speaker 1: into your lap. So and at the end of the day,
- 7:40Speaker 1: what are we here for? Like you here you on
- 7:42Speaker 1: earth to do shit. You're not on earth to just
- 7:47Speaker 1: roam the planes and just harvest grass. I mean some
- 7:52Speaker 1: people are, but vast majority of us we on earth
- 7:55Speaker 1: to do shit. Commerce, hustling. We're doing this. We're trying to,
- 7:59Speaker 1: you know better, our situ. We're trying to move up
- 8:01Speaker 1: to scale. It's like a game. Like to me, like
- 8:03Speaker 1: that shit is like an adrenaline rush, So I don't
- 8:06Speaker 1: necessarily look at it like, oh, it's a trap. For
- 8:09Speaker 1: every life is a trap. It's one big video game.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Can we who go make it to the last level?
- 8:13Speaker 3: That's it.
- 8:14Speaker 1: You gotta figure out cheat coode to it. It's like,
- 8:17Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. It's like Mario Brothers. Who's
- 8:18Speaker 1: gonna make it to the last level. Some of us
- 8:20Speaker 1: gonna make it to the first level, some of us
- 8:22Speaker 1: gonna make it minut some of us are actually gonna
- 8:24Speaker 1: make it to the last level.
- 8:25Speaker 3: And beat the game. But even if you don't beat
- 8:27Speaker 3: the game, hey, it's been a hell of a ride.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Enjoying a lot of times going after it is what
- 8:33Speaker 1: makes it fun. Like and for those of you who'll
- 8:35Speaker 1: be like, hey, I want to just walk to beach.
- 8:38Speaker 1: As a person who is like taking three months off
- 8:41Speaker 1: of what people want to tell you, you be bored out
- 8:43Speaker 1: of your mind.
- 8:44Speaker 3: After thirty days, you think that that's piece. You're gonna
- 8:47Speaker 3: be bored.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Your friends aren't gonna be able to do anything with
- 8:49Speaker 1: you, your significant other one, your kids still have school, so
- 8:52Speaker 1: you're gonna sit around and do nothing all day. Now
- 8:54Speaker 1: you can, and that's the international arbitrarge. So make money
- 8:57Speaker 1: in the States and go to other countries and have
- 9:00Speaker 1: more freedom. But even then you still have to find
- 9:03Speaker 1: a deeper purpose for what you want to do. And
- 9:05Speaker 1: this goes back to the previous conversation of having ambition.
- 9:09Speaker 1: But on a systemic issue, hustle culture isn't needed because
- 9:14Speaker 1: the American economy is not as strong as it once was,
- 9:17Speaker 1: and so many jobs cannot be provided like how it
- 9:20Speaker 1: used to be. Like I remember when I started being
- 9:22Speaker 1: an entrepreneur in three to four, a lot of people
- 9:25Speaker 1: made fun not laughing out because the job security is
- 9:28Speaker 1: not there. And even if you work in corporate you
- 9:30Speaker 1: still have to hustle your ass off and be productive
- 9:33Speaker 1: and know how to work that skill set of knowing
- 9:37Speaker 1: who to be connected to, who endorses you. There's no
- 9:41Speaker 1: way that you can escape it. That's why, even like
- 9:43Speaker 1: last week when we did the levels of wealth we
- 9:45Speaker 1: got people, You guys are out of touch once again.
- 9:49Speaker 3: I've been broke as hell before.
- 9:51Speaker 1: I've had the fortune of making two or three dollars
- 9:54Speaker 1: in a year I prefer making two or three dollars
- 9:57Speaker 1: in a year to be honest.
- 9:59Speaker 3: But if these levels.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Of wealth are not true, that just got paid sixty
- 10:03Speaker 1: million guaranteed and never won a title. Brady's getting three
- 10:07Speaker 1: point fifty to sit in the broadcasting boost to predict
- 10:10Speaker 1: what's going to happen. Like if these and this is
- 10:12Speaker 1: the reason why people gate keep information and a lot
- 10:16Speaker 1: of people who are rich and wealthy are shutting the
- 10:17Speaker 1: fuck up and not talking. Y'all say y'all want the truth,
- 10:21Speaker 1: then get it, and now all of a sudden you
- 10:22Speaker 1: hate it.
- 10:23Speaker 3: Okay, I'll be quiet.
- 10:24Speaker 1: And I didn't understand that some of the selective outrage
- 10:27Speaker 1: with it. It's like we just was commentating on that list.
- 10:30Speaker 1: We didn't necessarily even agree what ever make that list.
- 10:33Speaker 1: But the thing about it is that you can't change
- 10:35Speaker 1: it to make it convenient.
- 10:36Speaker 3: To your situation. This is just the facts.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Like when you start talking my money, it's like, well,
- 10:43Speaker 1: then you saying ninety five percent of America is broken,
- 10:45Speaker 1: that's a fact. That's the fact that most ninety five
- 10:48Speaker 1: percent is that's a fact. What you want me to lie,
- 10:52Speaker 1: we can lie to you and say no, because bro,
- 10:56Speaker 1: I remember when I first made one hundred thousand dollars.
- 10:59Speaker 3: And it wasn't no life changing to your thoughts.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Yeah, and that was better than probably eighty percent of America.
- 11:07Speaker 1: So it's like no, I mean, or we're just not
- 11:10Speaker 1: going to talk. We just we could just not talk
- 11:12Speaker 1: about it at all. But when you're like, oh, that's
- 11:14Speaker 1: that's saying that most of America is broke.
- 11:16Speaker 3: Yeah, most of America's broke.
- 11:17Speaker 1: The country's broke, so therefore most of the citizens are
- 11:21Speaker 1: I mean, what you want, what you want that you
- 11:24Speaker 1: want the truth for you or you want some smoke
- 11:26Speaker 1: screen bullshit, like everybody not gonna make it. That's the
- 11:30Speaker 1: harsh reality of life. Everybody's not gonna make it. H
- 11:34Speaker 1: I mean, and people that it's like, yo, this hustle
- 11:37Speaker 1: mentality is is is bad. They tell you that to
- 11:40Speaker 1: make sure that you stay a worker, because what's the alternative.
- 11:43Speaker 1: This is America. It ain't nowhere where you can just
- 11:46Speaker 1: live off the land. So you either are an entrepreneur
- 11:50Speaker 1: or you're an employee. That's what you're doing in America
- 11:53Speaker 1: if you're in the legal system of things. So if
- 11:57Speaker 1: they're discouraging you, if these people are discouraging you from
- 12:00Speaker 1: being a hustler, which essentially they're discouraging you from being
- 12:03Speaker 1: an entrepreneur because if you're an entrepreneur, you're hustle. There's
- 12:06Speaker 1: no where around it, ain't They ain't no easy shortcuts
- 12:09Speaker 1: to the entrepreneurship. You're gonna have to work fifteen hours,
- 12:11Speaker 1: twenty hour days. That's that's going to have to happen,
- 12:14Speaker 1: especially in the beginning stages. So if they're discouraging you
- 12:17Speaker 1: from being an entrepreneur, what are they encouraging you to be?
- 12:21Speaker 1: And even if you're legal that they took the cannabis
- 12:24Speaker 1: business away defending their crisis is.
- 12:28Speaker 3: But why would they Why would they encourage you to
- 12:30Speaker 3: be an employee? Though? Right like, think about that exactly. Absolutely.
- 12:35Speaker 1: They put out narratives you ever you ever hear these
- 12:38Speaker 1: black people are at the bottom of the totem pole
- 12:41Speaker 1: when it comes to wealth, when it comes to home ownership,
- 12:44Speaker 1: when it comes to stocks.
- 12:45Speaker 3: Why is the main why would you have a main.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Focus in study that hustle culture is is bad for
- 12:52Speaker 1: black people who have the least amount of money out
- 12:54Speaker 1: of anybody. Have you ever heard hustle culture is bad
- 12:57Speaker 1: for white people who's on Wall Street sniffing hope just
- 13:00Speaker 1: to stay up for twenty hours a day. They hustling
- 13:02Speaker 1: like a motherfucker Silicon Valley when they're running around doing
- 13:06Speaker 1: all this shit. Max Zuckerberg probably met with three hundred
- 13:09Speaker 1: four hundred people in three weeks to try to raise money.
- 13:12Speaker 3: Is that hustling?
- 13:13Speaker 1: Did they have a discourage him and say the hustle
- 13:15Speaker 1: culture that's going to kill you. That's bad for you.
- 13:17Speaker 1: Don't worry about that. That doesn't even make any sense.
- 13:20Speaker 1: You're trying and discourage the people that need to hustle
- 13:22Speaker 1: the most not to hustle absolutely, because they know if
- 13:28Speaker 1: they would get the power and community and finance together,
- 13:33Speaker 1: there could be some changes. That's why I keep saying
- 13:35Speaker 1: as soon as we got into the market, the rules,
- 13:37Speaker 1: regulations changed, creative culture change, NFT stuff changed, Like you
- 13:43Speaker 1: have to just continuously adapt, but you're not going to
- 13:46Speaker 1: be able to live off your mom or dad or
- 13:49Speaker 1: significant other for free. That causes a lot of attension
- 13:52Speaker 1: to and then like childcare is getting more expensive, like
- 13:55Speaker 1: even if you have kids when people are like, well
- 13:57Speaker 1: hundreds a lot if you live in which I'm from
- 13:59Speaker 1: the Midwest, but if you live in the Midwest, and
- 14:01Speaker 1: the smaller city with fifty thousand people less one hundred grand,
- 14:04Speaker 1: maybe a lot if you live in a major city,
- 14:06Speaker 1: if you take good care of your kid, and if
- 14:07Speaker 1: you're an active parent, you're going to burn through thirty
- 14:10Speaker 1: or twenty thousand dollars a year just taking care of
- 14:12Speaker 1: your kid an extra curricular.
- 14:14Speaker 3: Costs by design. So but what do we know. We're
- 14:21Speaker 3: just grifting.
- 14:22Speaker 1: And then the last thing is like, yeah, some time
- 14:24Speaker 1: you gotta switch your hustle. If you're doing something that
- 14:26Speaker 1: has no chance of scaling and counterproductive, that's not something
- 14:30Speaker 1: that is sustainable, and that is something that's going to
- 14:32Speaker 1: burn you out without any recourse.
- 14:34Speaker 3: But that's up to you to know what is scalable.
- 14:39Speaker 3: We've produced enough.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Content on Earn your Leisure that you can watch episodes
- 14:45Speaker 1: knowing pretty much any business that you want, and you
- 14:49Speaker 1: can say, Okay, this is more scalable as opposed to
- 14:51Speaker 1: me just selling T shirts on the street corner. Yeah,
- 14:54Speaker 1: that could lead you to become the next football but
- 14:56Speaker 1: you're probably not. Bob's gonna be real conversations, and if
- 15:02Speaker 1: you don't like it, that's fine, So you can't always
- 15:07Speaker 1: This is not a fairy tale, not a fairy tale.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Like you know what I'm saying, Like, the only thing
- 15:12Speaker 1: else gonna happen is you keep telling people fairy tales,
- 15:15Speaker 1: is that you're gonna make them delusional and you're gonna
- 15:18Speaker 1: lead them to disappointment. Absolutely, the entire world is waiting
- 15:22Speaker 1: to see what Drome power does. The American economy is
- 15:27Speaker 1: at one of its shakiest points since two thousand and eight,
- 15:30Speaker 1: and people are telling you to work less. They're trying
- 15:33Speaker 1: to offset the workforce by making the AI shit work. Meanwhile,
- 15:37Speaker 1: motherfucking Apple keeps re rocking that same phone with a
- 15:40Speaker 1: new button. And while we gotta trifold phone out, you
- 15:45Speaker 1: gotta constantly innovate man. And for the record, assets homes
- 15:49Speaker 1: are an asset. Commercial buildings are an asset, So our
- 15:52Speaker 1: stocks are only going to go higher. That's what they're
- 15:55Speaker 1: meant to do. So if you think that you can
- 15:57Speaker 1: just chill and coast by, like I remember, even in
- 16:00Speaker 1: two thousand and eight, there were some homes five bedroom,
- 16:03Speaker 1: four bath, thirty eight hundred four thousand square feet. Now
- 16:06Speaker 1: for RIDDA, I was going for five to twenty five.
- 16:08Speaker 1: You won't find a three bedroom in Alpharetta. That's two
- 16:11Speaker 1: thousand square feet for five hundred grand. Now it wasn't
- 16:14Speaker 1: that long ago, Like what do you want to do?
- 16:16Speaker 1: We do not even gonna talk about New York and
- 16:18Speaker 1: Lisha has never been that's never been something that we
- 16:23Speaker 1: don't lack. We over index in Lisua. To be honest
- 16:27Speaker 1: with you, really Usher has sold out ten shows and
