- 0:45Speaker 2: I've got.
- 0:45Speaker 1: But you are I was going to say, a man
- 0:48Speaker 1: a jack of many trades?
- 0:49Speaker 2: Is that the same jack of all tropes? Just kidding?
- 0:56Speaker 1: But today we've got you on to talk about fash
- 0:59Speaker 1: We're going to some style tips, shopping tips, all the
- 1:02Speaker 1: tips from you, just the tip, just the tip. We're
- 1:05Speaker 1: very excited, but before we get into it, we start
- 1:07Speaker 1: with a life lesson.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Of the way.
- 1:09Speaker 1: So would you like to kick us off?
- 1:10Speaker 2: Okay?
- 1:10Speaker 3: I found this is an old old TikTok video. The
- 1:14Speaker 3: creator's name is Denisha Carter. She gets so much hate
- 1:18Speaker 3: because she's so beautiful that all of the comments are
- 1:20Speaker 3: like you must be ai, which like what that's the
- 1:23Speaker 3: problem to have.
- 1:25Speaker 2: That's what people come into my photos all the time.
- 1:27Speaker 2: I don't know, may imagine. I don't think it's a compliment,
- 1:31Speaker 2: but she was.
- 1:31Speaker 3: Doing a video about I don't even know what the
- 1:34Speaker 3: context was, but I feel like you guys will get
- 1:36Speaker 3: this because it's she was talking about. When you post
- 1:39Speaker 3: something on the Internet and you have a very clear
- 1:41Speaker 3: point that you're trying to get across and someone wants
- 1:43Speaker 3: to argue with you, and instinct tells us like, no, no,
- 1:47Speaker 3: I want to explain my point further. What they're trying
- 1:50Speaker 3: to argue has absolutely nothing to do with what you
- 1:52Speaker 3: were saying. Yep, the quote that I pulled from it.
- 1:56Speaker 3: I can't compete with the voices in your head, nor
- 1:59Speaker 3: will I waste the airtime or give you the clout
- 2:02Speaker 3: of going back and forth with you. I'm no longer
- 2:04Speaker 3: responding to clarify things that were crystal clear in the
- 2:06Speaker 3: first place.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Boom fucking Mike drops. Yeah. So I'm just not arguing.
- 2:11Speaker 3: You know what.
- 2:15Speaker 1: We need to create some sort of thing in the
- 2:16Speaker 1: Instagram and TikTok comments where we can like automatically go
- 2:20Speaker 1: back to me in comments saying that exactly we always
- 2:23Speaker 1: say like, you're not allowed to make me feel bad
- 2:24Speaker 1: on the phone that I pay for love that.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Oh I love that. Put that shit on shirt, but
- 2:29Speaker 2: that ship, I've got it tattooed on my lower the
- 2:34Speaker 2: whole paragraph. I love that. I love that. What's your
- 2:38Speaker 2: life lesson?
- 2:39Speaker 3: Oh?
- 2:39Speaker 2: My life lesson.
- 2:40Speaker 4: I was telling sal about it the other day and
- 2:43Speaker 4: I was saying how sometimes you don't need to like
- 2:46Speaker 4: know the plot twist of like everything, because I whenever
- 2:50Speaker 4: I'm reading a book or whenever I'm like watching a movie,
- 2:53Speaker 4: I am there being like with the red thread on
- 2:57Speaker 4: the wall, being like.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Stories, what the is?
- 3:01Speaker 1: And I'm like literally trying to that.
- 3:03Speaker 4: I don't end up like enjoying the book or like
- 3:06Speaker 4: enjoying the movie because I'm.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Like, oh, I mean yeah, like literally taking notes.
- 3:11Speaker 4: And then anyway, I was reading this book and I
- 3:13Speaker 4: was like, this is an enemy to lovers.
- 3:15Speaker 2: I see it? Ye see it now?
- 3:16Speaker 4: I love like fantasy smart just to give you a
- 3:20Speaker 4: y yeah, yeah, very very intense stuff.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Okay.
- 3:24Speaker 1: My life lesson of the week is another gem from
- 3:27Speaker 1: the Instagram pages that we love data but making Oh no,
- 3:31Speaker 1: I know what it is.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Alex is going to run away and you might have
- 3:35Speaker 3: seen this, I mean was my favorite account.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Yeah, and you'll love this. Apparently the Gucci belt is back.
- 3:43Speaker 1: I have not seen this, so okay, she did a
- 3:47Speaker 1: study on Twitter and apparently the Gucci belt has had
- 3:52Speaker 1: eighteen percent plus increase in mentions on x formerly known
- 3:56Speaker 1: to Twitter per day for the last week and has
- 4:00Speaker 1: been seen worn by the likes of Belahadide and Marley Cyrus.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, she's back.
- 4:07Speaker 1: She's back. I've seen it in like a little micro
- 4:10Speaker 1: version though, which wasn't as popular.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Because we have we have ragged on this belt twice.
- 4:18Speaker 2: I don't own ones, I don't.
- 4:21Speaker 4: I don't care, but it's the It was the whole
- 4:24Speaker 4: thing about how it had such a like a peak,
- 4:27Speaker 4: a peak, and then within a matter of months it
- 4:30Speaker 4: was like, cringe, I don't have any feelings towards this belt.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:35Speaker 1: The thing about the Gucci Marmont belt specifically, we always
- 4:39Speaker 1: use that as an example of why you shouldn't follow
- 4:41Speaker 1: trends just because they're trending, especially if it's a designer
- 4:45Speaker 1: item that costs a fuck load. But if you love
- 4:48Speaker 1: that belt and you've always loved it, then you go
- 4:51Speaker 1: go exactly and you wear the shit out of that belt.
- 4:53Speaker 1: But if you just but if you're just buying it
- 4:56Speaker 1: for the trend, it's like it doesn't matter if trade
- 4:59Speaker 1: is Yeah, every thing that you love and hold deer
- 5:02Speaker 1: at some point will be considered cringe exactly. So you
- 5:05Speaker 1: just have to know whether or not you're willing to
- 5:07Speaker 1: like stand by it and put your money towards it,
- 5:09Speaker 1: get your money's worth.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Put your shit on the shirt, sow. But she's back, baby,
- 5:13Speaker 2: It's a wild start. Yeah.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Yeah, so I'm excited to see because she's going to
- 5:19Speaker 1: be the eye.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Are you going to get one? Two broke chicks?
- 5:23Speaker 1: I can afford it, maybe a vintage one if I
- 5:28Speaker 1: could find one, but jump even on deepop or something,
- 5:31Speaker 1: they're probably popping off. Now everybody's seen that stat and
- 5:34Speaker 1: they're like.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Raise the prices. But yeah, there we go. Love it
- 5:39Speaker 2: all right.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Well, now that we've got our life lessons out of
- 5:41Speaker 1: the way, should we get.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Into the episode. Let's do it.
- 5:46Speaker 4: So on your TikTok, you've called yourself a minimalist dresser.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Can you talk us through what that means?
- 5:53Speaker 3: Okay, so I how this kind of came to be,
- 5:58Speaker 3: like in terms of my style It's sort of evolved
- 6:01Speaker 3: from necessity because I've worked pretty much exclusively in beauty
- 6:05Speaker 3: for the last decade ish, But before that, I worked
- 6:08Speaker 3: in fashion, and I was a tiny, little baby university
- 6:12Speaker 3: student working in retail, and I would go to all
- 6:15Speaker 3: of these events and everyone was wearing designer and I'm like,
- 6:17Speaker 3: I want in, but.
- 6:20Speaker 2: I'm not going to.
- 6:21Speaker 3: I mean, Gucci belt was a really nice served me
- 6:24Speaker 3: a beautiful segue, because I'm like, I'm not going to
- 6:26Speaker 3: spend all of this money on something that I'm going
- 6:29Speaker 3: to wear for a season, So I would just save
- 6:32Speaker 3: my pennies and buy something super super classic, so smart,
- 6:36Speaker 3: black white, beij denim. And then from that I realized,
- 6:42Speaker 3: because prior to that, I feel like everyone goes through
- 6:44Speaker 3: it at some stage, I was just buying whatever I
- 6:46Speaker 3: thought was cool, could not, for the life of me,
- 6:49Speaker 3: work out what felt like me and felt like my style.
- 6:52Speaker 3: And then when I started buying these more timeless, if
- 6:56Speaker 3: you will items, I realized, Okay, actually this is what
- 6:59Speaker 3: I like. I like my neutrals, I like clean lines,
- 7:02Speaker 3: I like things that aren't going to date, and that's
- 7:05Speaker 3: just kind of where I feel most comfortable. And then
- 7:08Speaker 3: the older I'm getting the more I'm like, no, no, just
- 7:10Speaker 3: bring it back to what you know. And that's kind
- 7:13Speaker 3: of the space I'm playing in now.
- 7:14Speaker 2: It takes the stress out of it. I feel like
- 7:16Speaker 2: a Yeah, who were some of your style likeons, Rosie
- 7:19Speaker 2: Huntington Whitely.
- 7:21Speaker 3: I mean, if we go way way back, Jane Burkin,
- 7:25Speaker 3: everything Mary Kate can actually do. And it is so
- 7:27Speaker 3: upsetting that they're never papped anymore because I just want
- 7:29Speaker 3: to know what they're wearing day to day.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:32Speaker 1: I follow a few fan accounts that will occasionally get
- 7:35Speaker 1: like the paparazzi picks and it would be.
- 7:37Speaker 2: So burns teeth.
- 7:40Speaker 1: I save everyone though.
- 7:41Speaker 3: Ye.
- 7:41Speaker 1: When Mary Kate was wearing that like long leopard coat
- 7:44Speaker 1: earlier this year, yeah, yeah, made my day.
- 7:47Speaker 2: But yeah, I love that huge.
- 7:51Speaker 1: I know you were Vogue for your wedding. Yes, that
- 7:53Speaker 1: was big for you. Mary Kate in the leopard coat
- 7:55Speaker 1: was a big date.
- 7:56Speaker 2: I'm going to be right in that way.
- 7:58Speaker 3: That link is still I do, ye, but yeah, No,
- 8:05Speaker 3: those are the kind of the people that are Victoria Beckham, Yeah.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Simple chic forever. I love that.
- 8:14Speaker 1: So what would you say to people who think that
- 8:19Speaker 1: minimalist style is boring.
- 8:21Speaker 3: I probably correct, but I just I don't care. Not
- 8:26Speaker 3: caring is the greatest feeling in the world. But there's like, sure,
- 8:30Speaker 3: it might be boring, but there's clearly it's a more
- 8:33Speaker 3: economical way to shop. Firstly, because you're wearing things over
- 8:36Speaker 3: and over and over again. I actually, I'm not bragging
- 8:39Speaker 3: about this on Instagram. I haven't shopped this year, which
- 8:42Speaker 3: probably says more about the like gifting and influencer economy
- 8:47Speaker 3: than it does anything else. But I haven't bought a
- 8:49Speaker 3: single thing. Wow, obviously groceries, but yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:53Speaker 4: In terms of fact, was this a conscious band that
- 8:56Speaker 4: you were like, I'm not going to buy anything new
- 8:58Speaker 4: this year?
- 8:59Speaker 2: Or has it just.
- 9:02Speaker 3: When we were we honeymooned and we were in LA
- 9:05Speaker 3: and I went into the row. I was to try
- 9:08Speaker 3: explaining that to a straight mail. I'm like, we're going
- 9:11Speaker 3: to go into this shop. They're going to be mean
- 9:13Speaker 3: to us, and I'm not going to buy anything and
- 9:16Speaker 3: I'm too scared to try anything on, but we need
- 9:18Speaker 3: to go in. And he's like, oh, what, you want
- 9:20Speaker 3: to take photos of the store, and like that's also banned.
- 9:22Speaker 3: He said, I don't understand what we're doing in here.
- 9:25Speaker 3: But then we went in and I'm looking at everything,
- 9:27Speaker 3: and then he goes, this just looks like everything that
- 9:30Speaker 3: you already own, but it probably wouldn't get it, like
- 9:33Speaker 3: we wouldn't have had to take out a second mortgage.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Normally I would have been like, you know nothing, you're
- 9:39Speaker 3: an idiot, but I was.
- 9:41Speaker 2: He got into my I.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Guess I've probably had a couple of margaritas at lunch,
- 9:44Speaker 3: and I'm like, he's actually right. And then when we
- 9:47Speaker 3: got home, i just kind of looked at my wardrobe
- 9:50Speaker 3: and I'm like, no, no, I'm working with too much already.
- 9:52Speaker 3: I don't need more stuff any good realization.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, very much experience truly love it.
- 9:59Speaker 3: So it probably is boring, but it's saving me coin
- 10:03Speaker 3: in the long run. Gifting aside, which is like a
- 10:07Speaker 3: perpose privilege, I'm sure, but then there's clearly an appetite
- 10:10Speaker 3: for it as well, because like, I love that you
- 10:12Speaker 3: guys wanted to talk to me about fashion because my
- 10:15Speaker 3: background was fashion. Didn't love it for years and years
- 10:19Speaker 3: and years, just preferred I felt like safer in the
- 10:22Speaker 3: beauty space. Got TikTok two years ago and just started
- 10:25Speaker 3: posting my outfits and people were like, no, no, no, more
- 10:27Speaker 3: and more.
- 10:27Speaker 2: This is what we want. So there's an appetite for boring.
- 10:31Speaker 2: How do you think it's boring?
- 10:33Speaker 1: But it's just a common Yeah, I think it's classic
- 10:37Speaker 1: when you're.
- 10:37Speaker 4: Not well on an unofficial shopping band, Let's say, what
- 10:41Speaker 4: are the green flags that has to be ticked for
- 10:44Speaker 4: you to purchase a product?
- 10:46Speaker 3: So I feel like the obvious not obvious one is
- 10:51Speaker 3: can I like wear this in multiple different ways? I
- 10:54Speaker 3: feel like even with if I need something for an event,
- 10:58Speaker 3: I'm like, will I wear this again?
- 11:00Speaker 2: I'm not a person that will.
- 11:01Speaker 3: If I have a wedding that I'm a guest at,
- 11:03Speaker 3: I'm not going to go out and buy a dress
- 11:05Speaker 3: specifically for that because I know I've got dozens of
- 11:08Speaker 3: dresses that will work. The other thing, this is a
- 11:11Speaker 3: tip that I pinched from Alison Bornstein, who's my favorite
- 11:15Speaker 3: person on the internet, genius stylist.
- 11:17Speaker 2: We're sitting right my third favorite person.
- 11:25Speaker 3: She was saying, it's less about like do I have
- 11:28Speaker 3: something in my wardrobe that is similar to this, and
- 11:31Speaker 3: more do I have something in my wardrobe that serves
- 11:33Speaker 3: the same purpose as this? I love that, so there
- 11:36Speaker 3: can be I I talked about it with slip dresses,
- 11:39Speaker 3: like I have many black slip dresses, but something as
- 11:43Speaker 3: simple as the neckline is going to make it serve
- 11:46Speaker 3: a different purpose. So I'm like, Okay, that I understand.
- 11:49Speaker 3: But then there are things that are totally different. Does
- 11:52Speaker 3: that make sense to me?
- 11:55Speaker 4: Language I have seventy two pairs of blue jeans, don't quote.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Hannah Montana jeans and she.
- 12:02Speaker 4: Still has but it's like, oh, but you know, this
- 12:06Speaker 4: one's got like a raw ham, or this one's a
- 12:08Speaker 4: different shade, or this one's like highways, and it's like.
- 12:12Speaker 1: They're all jeans.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Like at the end of the day, they're all jeans.
- 12:16Speaker 4: And I like think about it in terms of would
- 12:19Speaker 4: anyone else notice the difference? Probably not, like, and that's
- 12:22Speaker 4: where I will kind of be in my head.
- 12:24Speaker 2: And stop the purchase.
- 12:26Speaker 4: But I get what you're saying as well, that there
- 12:28Speaker 4: are different things that serve different purposes.
- 12:31Speaker 2: That's that's my big one.
- 12:32Speaker 3: I'm like, do I have something in my wardrobe that like,
- 12:35Speaker 3: is this a gap that I need to fill? Not necessarily,
- 12:38Speaker 3: And sometimes it's about the styling too, about the specific piece,
- 12:42Speaker 3: Like I have so many things that I'm like, oh, no,
- 12:44Speaker 3: but I really need this to tick this box. And
- 12:46Speaker 3: I'm like, or I could just pair it with this
- 12:49Speaker 3: jacket and that will dress it up. I don't actually
- 12:51Speaker 3: need to buy something completely new or pair it with
- 12:54Speaker 3: this jewelry and that'll make it a bit more elevated.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Spot on.
- 12:57Speaker 3: So with footwear, like there will be a dress that
- 12:59Speaker 3: I'm thinking, Okay, this is strictly daytime. Chuck on a heel, baby,
- 13:04Speaker 3: you've got an evening dress.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Day to night. We love it. Accessories.
- 13:07Speaker 4: I feel like that's like the big easiest way to
- 13:09Speaker 4: style something, to like level it up, especially when you're
- 13:12Speaker 4: working with a minimalist wardrobe, right yeah.
- 13:15Speaker 3: I mean my husband would be like, you have more
- 13:17Speaker 3: clothes than anyone. This is not minimalism, but I do
- 13:20Speaker 3: think like the style in terms of the way that
- 13:22Speaker 3: I will put an outfit together.
- 13:23Speaker 2: It's all just like pretty.
- 13:26Speaker 1: It would make it easier to mix and match though.
- 13:28Speaker 2: It's the easiest.
- 13:29Speaker 3: Yeah, packing for a trip is the best thing ever
- 13:32Speaker 3: because every single thing in my wardrobe matches something else.
- 13:34Speaker 1: So do you use like the three three three method
- 13:37Speaker 1: or a strategy when you're packing?
- 13:39Speaker 3: I definitely plan what I can mix around, but I
- 13:44Speaker 3: don't do the three three three thing, because the more
- 13:46Speaker 3: I think about it, the more I'm like.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Yeah, fair, And if you kind of know what you're doing, maybe.
- 13:51Speaker 2: You don't need like that strategy.
- 13:53Speaker 1: I can kind of just like picture it in my head,
- 13:55Speaker 1: like share from Clueless exactly.
- 13:58Speaker 3: I've got an app that does that, but it all
- 14:00Speaker 3: wearing because it's I think it's free.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Oh that's great. So that's a good tip. What's the app?
- 14:06Speaker 2: W H E R I N G.
- 14:08Speaker 3: And when you just catalog your wardrobe and then you
- 14:10Speaker 3: can put in what you've worn and then it'll keep
- 14:14Speaker 3: it there for you so you can go back and refer.
- 14:16Speaker 3: Or you can do the share from Clueless thing and
- 14:18Speaker 3: hit a shuffle button and then it just goes.
- 14:21Speaker 2: And it's free.
- 14:22Speaker 3: Yeah. I think so I got it so long ago
- 14:24Speaker 3: that I'm Apple pay is probably like we've just taken
- 14:28Speaker 3: another eight out of your account.
- 14:30Speaker 4: That's like that mean, it's like, where are you from?
- 14:34Speaker 2: Exactly?
- 14:34Speaker 3: Wow?
- 14:35Speaker 2: You guys from? Yeah.
- 14:38Speaker 1: But as a fashion lover, surely there must be times
- 14:41Speaker 1: when something is on trend and you're like, oh, I
- 14:45Speaker 1: like that. So how do you know when you're purchasing
- 14:48Speaker 1: something if you really like it, or if it's just
- 14:51Speaker 1: a trend.
- 14:52Speaker 3: I think for me it's just got instinct, Like if
- 14:54Speaker 3: I like something, I'm going to buy it. But I
- 14:58Speaker 3: do think I could totally wrong, but I think we're
- 15:01Speaker 3: at a time now where every trend that we see
- 15:04Speaker 3: has already existed in some iteration. So if I didn't
- 15:07Speaker 3: like at the first, like the jelly sandals, I was
- 15:10Speaker 3: about five the first time that rolled around, do I
- 15:13Speaker 3: love it now?
- 15:15Speaker 4: No?
- 15:15Speaker 2: But a ballet flat? Yeah? Absolutely? But then I.
- 15:18Speaker 3: Also think for me, the way I kind of look
- 15:20Speaker 3: at a trend is more on a macro level. So
- 15:24Speaker 3: a specific belt, I would say, is a micro trend
- 15:27Speaker 3: like a specific item of clothing, Whereas for me, I'm
- 15:31Speaker 3: looking at a trend like are we doing a pointed
- 15:33Speaker 3: toe or are we doing a round toe? Are we
- 15:35Speaker 3: doing a longer line blazer or are we doing a
- 15:38Speaker 3: crop Like That's kind of the scale that I'm looking
- 15:41Speaker 3: at trends at, which again makes it easier to shop.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely. I think it stops you from impulse purchases totally.
- 15:48Speaker 2: I'm like the anti impulse shopper. Do you have any hacks?
- 15:52Speaker 3: I got that app carted very good because I just
- 15:54Speaker 3: put everything in there and then it tells you when
- 15:57Speaker 3: it goes on sale, so you can just that was.
- 16:00Speaker 1: My app ID and know we want to do a
- 16:02Speaker 1: browser plug in for that as well.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Yeah, damn, first we don't know. It's fine, you're never
- 16:08Speaker 2: going to do it.
- 16:09Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly, that's good because just in there and then
- 16:13Speaker 3: let it similar.
- 16:15Speaker 4: You'll like be surprised as well how many times you
- 16:19Speaker 4: sit on a purchase and forget about it.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:22Speaker 4: If you're thinking about it every day and you're like
- 16:24Speaker 4: and there's so many occurrences where you're like, shit, I
- 16:26Speaker 4: really need X, like an oversized blazer, and you're like,
- 16:31Speaker 4: I'd wear that today, and that's happening multiple times, then
- 16:33Speaker 4: that's a purchase you may whereas if you're like two
- 16:36Speaker 4: minutes lad, you're like, shit, I really remember that I
- 16:39Speaker 4: wanted those like green and pink sneaker is and yeah,
- 16:43Speaker 4: and I don't really want the.
- 16:44Speaker 3: Means my life worse off for not having them, not necessarily,
- 16:48Speaker 3: although I will say my toxic trait is that I
- 16:50Speaker 3: will see something haven't bought it, and then as I'm
- 16:54Speaker 3: getting dressed, I'm like, you know, what would be perfect today?
- 16:56Speaker 2: That thing I didn't buy, yeah. Yeah, that's the worse
- 16:59Speaker 2: with into shopping. Oh the ones that get away.
- 17:02Speaker 4: So how do I saw you did a post on
- 17:05Speaker 4: elevated basics, which is like, I think everyone's favorite topic.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Yeah, you get questions about it, so yeah.
- 17:11Speaker 4: And I think basics is something that everyone struggles to
- 17:15Speaker 4: find a little bit. So how do you find your
- 17:16Speaker 4: elevated basics and what are they?
- 17:19Speaker 3: I mean, I just like to have a variety of tanks.
- 17:23Speaker 3: I wear so many blazers regardless of the weather. I
- 17:25Speaker 3: love great tanks, well cut t shirts. That's going to
- 17:28Speaker 3: be different for everyone. It just totally depends on what
- 17:31Speaker 3: shapes you feel comfortable with. And slips. I think a
- 17:34Speaker 3: slip dress is the most versatile thing ever. My tip
- 17:37Speaker 3: though with elevated basics is if you can go in
- 17:41Speaker 3: store and touch stuff, because most of the time, what's
- 17:45Speaker 3: setting one singlet apart from something that you actually love
- 17:50Speaker 3: to wear and reach for all the time and aren't
- 17:52Speaker 3: just using it as like an essential layering piece is
- 17:54Speaker 3: the texture. So if you can go in and touch
- 17:57Speaker 3: and feel something and it feels like a bit luxurious
- 18:00Speaker 3: to you, it doesn't have to cost the earth. That
- 18:03Speaker 3: for me is what's going to kind of lift things,
- 18:05Speaker 3: just a bit of texture.
- 18:06Speaker 2: I agree.
- 18:07Speaker 4: We've consistently said that we think, well, I guess it depends.
- 18:11Speaker 4: But where do you think basics sit in a save
- 18:14Speaker 4: or a splurge?
- 18:16Speaker 3: Oh?
- 18:16Speaker 2: Save for sure.
- 18:18Speaker 3: I mean particularly because particularly for me wearing white, I'm
- 18:22Speaker 3: not going to spend a fortune on white because I
- 18:24Speaker 3: wear so much bronzer. It's just a disaster way need
- 18:27Speaker 3: to happen. Those under arms are never going to survive
- 18:30Speaker 3: my fake tan necklines are never going to survive the bronzer.
- 18:33Speaker 2: And that's fine.
- 18:35Speaker 3: So I'm not going to spend a fortune on a
- 18:37Speaker 3: white T shirt when I know I'm going to stain
- 18:40Speaker 3: it immediately.
- 18:41Speaker 4: Literally, and I feel like I stain everything in one way.
- 18:44Speaker 2: Yeah, like it's gone, yeah, especially white.
- 18:48Speaker 1: And for so long I was of the school of
- 18:51Speaker 1: thought that for a basic something that you're going to
- 18:53Speaker 1: be wearing over and over again, well then you splurg
- 18:56Speaker 1: I think.
- 18:58Speaker 2: But I think that's the thing. It depends on the itel.
- 19:00Speaker 4: I think there's save, spend, splurge, and basic sit in
- 19:03Speaker 4: to spend. Yeah, so it's like you don't need to
- 19:06Speaker 4: splurge on seventy dollars for a white T shirt but
- 19:09Speaker 4: also I wouldn't necessarily go for like something that's always
- 19:15Speaker 4: cheap material because it's going to make you sweat. Yeah,
- 19:17Speaker 4: it's like, you know, maybe going to shrink when you
- 19:20Speaker 4: wash it. Get pilly, Yeah, get pilly. Whereas you want
- 19:23Speaker 4: to kind of go in the middle range that is
- 19:25Speaker 4: like I love like Uniclo for a basic that's very amazing.
- 19:29Speaker 3: Well on that though, that kind of brings it back
- 19:32Speaker 3: to the the purpose that something serves in your wardrobe.
- 19:36Speaker 3: I'm not going to spend a fortune on a T
- 19:38Speaker 3: shirt that I know is going to be going under
- 19:40Speaker 3: a coat or under a blaser. I would be more
- 19:43Speaker 3: likely to spend on a T shirt that I know
- 19:45Speaker 3: I'm going to wear in the summer and have nothing
- 19:47Speaker 3: over it, And that'll be the one that I'm like
- 19:50Speaker 3: very careful with.
- 19:51Speaker 4: That's like the statement piece. Yeah, that's the Gharney T shirt.
- 19:55Speaker 3: Even like I draw the line, but that's where I'm Yeah,
- 19:58Speaker 3: there are T shirts that I'm like, this is a
- 20:00Speaker 3: layering T shirt and this one is the outfith that's smart.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Well, we are two bro chicks, so we love a
- 20:07Speaker 1: budget tip. Do you have any other tips on how
- 20:10Speaker 1: to build a minimalist wardrobe on a budget.
- 20:13Speaker 2: I think.
- 20:14Speaker 3: I mean for me, it is just looking at what
- 20:18Speaker 3: I've already got, working out how many outfits that I
- 20:21Speaker 3: can build from that, and then identifying the gaps. It's
- 20:25Speaker 3: one thing to see a photo of an outfit that
- 20:28Speaker 3: you love. I think that's a fun way to shop,
- 20:31Speaker 3: But if you're trying to save money, why would you
- 20:34Speaker 3: go out and buy a whole new headgete outfit. Look
- 20:37Speaker 3: at what you've already got in your wardrobe, play around
- 20:39Speaker 3: set aside a day, which I know is so annoying,
- 20:42Speaker 3: but try all you can do it with a friend.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Like yeah, like the Sex and the City movie when
- 20:49Speaker 1: she's doing like the inn or out in the.
- 20:50Speaker 4: Wardrobe and everyone was always like, keep.
- 20:57Speaker 2: Yes, that's me. I love that.
- 21:00Speaker 3: But just try stuff on, work out what you can
- 21:03Speaker 3: mix and match, how many different purposes is this serving?
- 21:06Speaker 3: And then there'll be maybe a couple of gaps and
- 21:09Speaker 3: then fill those.
- 21:09Speaker 2: But don't go out and do like an overhaul.
- 21:13Speaker 4: I think the thing that people struggle with a lot
- 21:15Speaker 4: as well is getting a bit bored of their wardrobe,
- 21:18Speaker 4: like you know, and it is because you're seeing it's
- 21:22Speaker 4: the consumption on social media and seeing so many different
- 21:24Speaker 4: styles and trends.
- 21:25Speaker 1: It is really easy to get a little bit bored.
- 21:27Speaker 4: So do you have any tips on how to get
- 21:29Speaker 4: out of a fashion rut?
- 21:30Speaker 2: I think again, it's the same thing.
- 21:32Speaker 3: Yeah, find whatever item you're feeling a little bit tired
- 21:37Speaker 3: and bored of, and then think about, Okay, what a
- 21:40Speaker 3: different ways that I can style this. If you've then
- 21:42Speaker 3: styled it in a bunch of different ways that you
- 21:45Speaker 3: hadn't thought of before, and you're still like, eh, I'm
- 21:47Speaker 3: on the fence about this, get rid of it. Don't
- 21:50Speaker 3: keep stuff in your wardrobe that is uninspiring to you
- 21:52Speaker 3: because it's just going to gather dust. And like, clothes
- 21:55Speaker 3: exist to be worn. It's not helping anyone if it's
- 21:58Speaker 3: just hanging there in your wardrobe. But just try different
- 22:01Speaker 3: ways to style it.
- 22:03Speaker 4: I also think that about clothes that make you feel
- 22:05Speaker 4: bad about yourself.
- 22:06Speaker 2: Oh my god, I refuse.
- 22:08Speaker 4: Like Salem, I've spoken about this before as well. And
- 22:10Speaker 4: it's like having the bag of clothes that you're like,
- 22:12Speaker 4: oh like when I look a certain way, I can
- 22:15Speaker 4: and you hold onto it and it just is sitting
- 22:18Speaker 4: there making you feel bad about yourself, and it's like,
- 22:21Speaker 4: get rid of it friendship.
- 22:24Speaker 2: You guys should write a book about Actually, that's crazy
- 22:27Speaker 2: that you brought that up.
- 22:29Speaker 4: Many best friend my friends and if you get it,
- 22:37Speaker 4: if you know, you know.
- 22:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:40Speaker 1: So we actually get this question all the time from
- 22:44Speaker 1: the chicks because we do a series called Online Shot
- 22:46Speaker 1: with Us where we ask people to send in like
- 22:49Speaker 1: what they're looking for, what's on their wish list, and
- 22:51Speaker 1: we either find a good deal, sale, or just a
- 22:54Speaker 1: really good pick.
- 22:56Speaker 2: And it's tips for the.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Tall girlies, especially jeans. So what are your what are
- 23:03Speaker 1: your tall girl approved brands?
- 23:05Speaker 3: I mean, this is the most annoying recommendation because this
- 23:08Speaker 3: is like second mortgage stuff. But silver, like denim is
- 23:11Speaker 3: so good. But I have two pairs of silver Lake
- 23:13Speaker 3: jeans and both of them I bought because I had vouchers.
- 23:16Speaker 2: So you have a voucher for a store that's you cheated, cheated.
- 23:24Speaker 3: Fashion Jail Penny's great and also Sammy Robinson's one Mile.
- 23:30Speaker 3: They do so tall, they do everything in two different lengths.
- 23:35Speaker 3: And she's just brought out denim and it's like it's
- 23:37Speaker 3: long on me and I am five nine and a
- 23:39Speaker 3: little Wow, that's so cool.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't know that and I think it can
- 23:46Speaker 1: be a bit frustrating because I know it's like two
- 23:49Speaker 1: short girls as well. For denim specifically, there aren't that
- 23:53Speaker 1: many brands that have petee.
- 23:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:55Speaker 4: For you know, I say there's more than tall, but
- 23:58Speaker 4: there's more and you can take away. Yeah, you can
- 24:00Speaker 4: take it, but you can't give it exactly, you know.
- 24:03Speaker 4: But I've noticed that with a lot of the.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Like Tall Girl brands, they sometimes do seem to be
- 24:08Speaker 1: a little bit more expensive. But I think if you
- 24:11Speaker 1: can find a pair of jeans which, like we've said,
- 24:14Speaker 1: is such a classic piece that will fit you perfectly,
- 24:18Speaker 1: that is worth the investment rather than buying like an
- 24:22Speaker 1: ill fitting pair of jeans time and time again.
- 24:25Speaker 2: Totally.
- 24:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I did see another Alison Bornstein tip. I feel
- 24:29Speaker 3: like finding I hadn't really thought about it like this.
- 24:32Speaker 3: You're always going to be looking for better denim. You
- 24:34Speaker 3: can have the most amazing pair of jeans you've ever worn,
- 24:37Speaker 3: and you're still going to be out and about, like,
- 24:39Speaker 3: but you know what would make them better?
- 24:41Speaker 2: That is me. Yeah, that's why I have seventy two pairs.
- 24:44Speaker 4: But yeah, I feel like I have kicked the habit
- 24:47Speaker 4: of it because I did find like perfect pairs of
- 24:51Speaker 4: jeans and I'm like, Okay.
- 24:52Speaker 2: You know what, what's your perfect pair? So fate the
- 24:55Speaker 2: label nice. I love them amazing.
- 24:57Speaker 4: And then the Rider's curve jeans as well, those are
- 25:01Speaker 4: really good for girlies and therefore like bigger hips to
- 25:04Speaker 4: a smaller waist ratio. But what I will say with
- 25:07Speaker 4: that is it goes up to an eighteen that I
- 25:09Speaker 4: don't really know if you can call it up to
- 25:11Speaker 4: an eighteen a curve range, but I would love to
- 25:13Speaker 4: see more sizes in that episode of Yeah, honestly, that's
- 25:18Speaker 4: like my critique of that. But I do really love them,
- 25:22Speaker 4: and yeah, I think those are the two that I'm like, smash.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Those are my smash special buffs like gvercial crush jans.
- 25:32Speaker 5: No, seriously, with the trauma of trying on jeans in
- 25:36Speaker 5: a store, let me just bite online try it on
- 25:39Speaker 5: at home so I can cry in private line. Because
- 25:43Speaker 5: as well, you go into a store and you get
- 25:46Speaker 5: three different styles and you've got three different sizes.
- 25:50Speaker 3: I don't remember the last time I tried denim on
- 25:52Speaker 3: exiting r. You know that worse is swimwear or don't.
- 25:57Speaker 2: Even start as f cups.
- 25:59Speaker 3: That's my my issue is because I'm told I'm also
- 26:01Speaker 3: long in the body. So like Cameltoe City, if I
- 26:05Speaker 3: get the wrong what's the bit from the.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Yeah, the same, Yeah, that's the one.
- 26:12Speaker 2: There we go.
- 26:13Speaker 1: Yeah, no, that was the technical term what you had. Yeah,
- 26:18Speaker 1: see like where the opposite?
- 26:19Speaker 2: Whereas like my jeans if they're too high waist, I'm like,
- 26:22Speaker 2: why are you one of my tits? It's like a
- 26:23Speaker 2: body suit.
- 26:26Speaker 1: I feel like those two twins from Alice in Wonderland
- 26:30Speaker 1: Tradle Day.
- 26:31Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, So one final question, which so I really
- 26:35Speaker 4: wanted to ask.
- 26:36Speaker 2: I don't want to go. I have to come back
- 26:40Speaker 2: on regular guests regular. I love this, I can do anytime.
- 26:48Speaker 1: But yeah, I did have a burning question because I
- 26:52Speaker 1: saw an article that you wrote and you were talking
- 26:57Speaker 1: about like your top three favorite products. Yep is the
- 27:01Speaker 1: six hundred and ten dollars Lamaire moisturizer.
- 27:04Speaker 2: Worth it.
- 27:05Speaker 3: It's a nuanced answer, I'm afraid, but I will say
- 27:09Speaker 3: I will never, with any any beauty product except sunscreen,
- 27:13Speaker 3: say that something is I must have never, ever, ever,
- 27:16Speaker 3: ever ever in my life.
- 27:18Speaker 2: That cream.
- 27:19Speaker 3: I love it because I have a working relationship with
- 27:22Speaker 3: the brand.
- 27:22Speaker 2: It's beautiful.
- 27:23Speaker 3: I went on a Singapore trip with them last year,
- 27:25Speaker 3: and I have even more respect for the humble brag,
- 27:28Speaker 3: even more respect for the brand now that I know,
- 27:31Speaker 3: like the every tub of it is hand poured they did.
- 27:35Speaker 3: I could go on, we might do a bonus episode
- 27:37Speaker 3: just on this. It's kind of like a sour dough
- 27:39Speaker 3: starter because there's this miracle broth from decades ago, and
- 27:44Speaker 3: every pot of the moisturizer, like the last there's a
- 27:48Speaker 3: drop of the previous batch of the miracle broth, and
- 27:51Speaker 3: then that it's crazy.
- 27:52Speaker 2: It's giving fountain of youth. I'm actually my late seventies.
- 27:56Speaker 2: This is what people do. But is it going to
- 28:01Speaker 2: like totally change your skin? No?
- 28:04Speaker 3: I think for six hundred dollars there are plenty of
- 28:06Speaker 3: other things that you can do. If you are a
- 28:08Speaker 3: person who has six hundred dollars of disposable income and
- 28:12Speaker 3: is obsessed with beauty, go for it. I think the
- 28:15Speaker 3: best products are the ones that you want to use,
- 28:17Speaker 3: and if that's going to get you to put a
- 28:18Speaker 3: moisturizer on, awesome. If you don't have six hundred dollars,
- 28:23Speaker 3: by no means, In fact, even if you do, by
- 28:25Speaker 3: no means, is that I must have nothing is.
- 28:29Speaker 2: Did you hate it when you liked it? Yeah? Literally?
- 28:33Speaker 1: Ever, I know there isn't a direct dupe, but what
- 28:37Speaker 1: would be a go to moisturizer on a budget that
- 28:40Speaker 1: you would suggest?
- 28:41Speaker 2: I mean, budget is such a difficult one. It is,
- 28:45Speaker 2: I sort of mid way down the line. Obviously. I
- 28:49Speaker 2: don't let Chris use the lamaire if he don't even
- 28:53Speaker 2: like Chris in the bathroom in the rain.
- 28:57Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's and that's what I've sure his kin
- 29:00Speaker 3: looks great unfortunately. Yeah, anyway, Chris uses the Keels the
- 29:05Speaker 3: that just got obsessed with it and then probably cheaper
- 29:08Speaker 3: than that. Sarah V is great and that's got a
- 29:11Speaker 3: similar kind of creamy consistency as well. Yeah.
- 29:14Speaker 1: I love that heavyweight moisturize.
- 29:16Speaker 2: That's what I need.
- 29:17Speaker 3: Dry drag, early exclusive, that's the word we used to
- 29:20Speaker 3: lock it all in.
- 29:21Speaker 2: I like that it's not using that.
- 29:24Speaker 4: Okay, I actually lied before We have one more final,
- 29:28Speaker 4: but what's been your biggest life lesson on your fashion
- 29:32Speaker 4: journey so far?
- 29:33Speaker 2: Oh?
- 29:34Speaker 3: I think just where what you feel comfortable in. I
- 29:37Speaker 3: was talking about this at fashion Week and actually to
- 29:39Speaker 3: Tender was saying it as well, and I resonated, Oh, God.
- 29:43Speaker 3: She could say literally anything to her voice for like
- 29:46Speaker 3: the obsessed with her, but she exactly what she was saying.
- 29:51Speaker 3: I have done the same thing in that. Like I
- 29:53Speaker 3: been rolling around fashion week for six hundred and four years.
- 29:57Speaker 3: There was a time when I was like rend cocktail dresses.
- 30:02Speaker 3: I'm in color and lace and body con, which and I.
- 30:05Speaker 2: Look at these photos. I can't like I had a
- 30:08Speaker 2: bandage dress.
- 30:10Speaker 1: You can see how I'm comfortable in the Yeah, in
- 30:13Speaker 1: the photos, I'm like, that girl is miserable.
- 30:18Speaker 2: It really is.
- 30:19Speaker 3: And then and I would be like just hankering for
- 30:22Speaker 3: someone to take my photo. I'm pretending to make a
- 30:24Speaker 3: phone call out the front so that I haven't read Yeah, like, girlfriend,
- 30:28Speaker 3: go inside, you've arrived to see your show, Sit the
- 30:32Speaker 3: fuck down. But I'm standing out the front, going, oh
- 30:35Speaker 3: is my friend over there? I better walk in front
- 30:37Speaker 3: of this photographer And then don't want to take my
- 30:39Speaker 3: picture because I looked shit like that's that's not even
- 30:42Speaker 3: me fishing.
- 30:43Speaker 2: But I did not look good.
- 30:44Speaker 3: Now, I just wear whatever's in my wardrobe that I
- 30:47Speaker 3: feel great in. I just dress how I would day
- 30:50Speaker 3: to day. I have the best time. I'm having a
- 30:53Speaker 3: good time all the time because I'm not adjusting myself
- 30:56Speaker 3: and trying to like tuck my body spanks back in Bodyicondre.
- 31:00Speaker 2: This is like the cheesiest thing ever.
- 31:02Speaker 1: But confidence is the best accessory.
- 31:04Speaker 2: It is, but that don't share it.
- 31:08Speaker 3: Yeah, And I've got that under the other lower back tattoo.
- 31:12Speaker 2: Yeah. And that one's got a butterfly on either side
- 31:15Speaker 2: of it. That yeah, sigh. I love that.
- 31:20Speaker 4: Thank you so much for joining us.
- 31:24Speaker 2: So much more.
- 31:26Speaker 4: No one's got plans after this, right, come on, no.
- 31:32Speaker 2: No, we love it.
- 31:33Speaker 1: But for any of the chicks who don't already follow you,
- 31:35Speaker 1: where can they find you?
- 31:37Speaker 3: They can find me on Instagram and TikTok at gem
- 31:40Speaker 3: Diamond Diamond without the A, which is probably for the
- 31:43Speaker 3: best because otherwise people would be like, bitch, you made
- 31:45Speaker 3: this up, not your surname Gem Diamond, and also on
- 31:49Speaker 3: the Glow Journal podcast, which is interviews with founders of
- 31:51Speaker 3: beauty rants.
- 31:52Speaker 1: Love incredible so much, Thanks so much for coming on,
- 31:55Speaker 1: and thanks to you chicks for having us in your earhells,
- 31:57Speaker 1: we love to be here. And thank you to am
- 31:59Speaker 1: I made and producer for making today's episode happened like
- 32:03Speaker 1: bye check bye
