- 1:18you, go get yourself something.
- 1:19I don't want you to be starved or
- 1:20parched.
- 1:22Come on back.
- 1:23Get yourself nice and comfy, and let's kick
- 1:26off this show.
- 1:27If you have not heard about me before,
- 1:28or if you have, don't forget to check
- 1:31out Believe Me Achieve.com.
- 1:33Something very interesting today, if you're watching this
- 1:36live on June 5th, 2026, today is National
- 1:40Donut Day.
- 1:42Whether that's Dunkin' Donuts or other donuts like
- 1:48Krispy Kreme or Duck Donuts, it's a day
- 1:55to get yourself a free donut, but it's
- 1:57more than that.
- 1:58Most Dunkin' Donut shops are open until 9
- 2:02p.m. at night.
- 2:03In case you're wondering, Krispy Kreme, I'll tell
- 2:06you, they're ours.
- 2:09Krispy Kreme mostly is open until ...
- 2:11It looks like they're open until ...
- 2:15What does it say here?
- 2:17A lot of these places, well, most of
- 2:19them are delivery, but like I know Krispy
- 2:21Kreme in Paramus, I believe ...
- 2:25Oh, they're open on 9 p.m. Okay,
- 2:26they're open on 9 p.m. So yeah,
- 2:28so you can actually get yourself a free
- 2:30donut, but it's more than just a free
- 2:33donut.
- 2:35It actually is to commemorate something.
- 2:37So in 1938, there was the Salvation Army,
- 2:42and they did a fundraiser.
- 2:44They had these lassies, which were ladies, and
- 2:46they were actually giving these donuts out from
- 2:49the fundraiser, the funds they raised, and they
- 2:51gave them out to the soldiers to help
- 2:53brighten their spirits.
- 2:54I believe they're still doing this today.
- 2:55So it started in 1938, and it's just
- 3:00a time for us to be, let's say,
- 3:03grateful, like Veterans Day, Memorial Day.
- 3:06This is a fun kind of holiday when
- 3:09we thank the soldiers and we try to
- 3:11bring them a little bit of joy and
- 3:12a little bit of love and spirit from
- 3:14people.
- 3:15So a great time.
- 3:16If you have not gotten yourself a free
- 3:18donut, you can go there.
- 3:19Now here's the thing.
- 3:20If you are, let's say, going to a
- 3:23bakery, and they say, oh, we're not doing
- 3:25National Donut Day, okay?
- 3:27I had one this morning that didn't do
- 3:29that.
- 3:32And I just said to them, I said
- 3:34to the one lady, she says, oh, yeah,
- 3:38I said, are we celebrating National Donut Day?
- 3:41She said, oh, of course.
- 3:44And then the interesting thing happened is I
- 3:47got the bag and I got the bill
- 3:49with the bag.
- 3:51And so I thought that was kind of
- 3:54interesting.
- 3:56And so I went up there and I
- 3:59said, well, what happened to National Donut Day?
- 4:01So it's celebrated twice a year.
- 4:04One of the dates is today, June 5th,
- 4:06and the other day is November 5th.
- 4:08So the date is secondary, of course.
- 4:11The unofficial celebration, it largely emerged as the
- 4:13popular retail marketing event.
- 4:16The first one was actually because of the
- 4:181938 and the Salvation Army and the lassie,
- 4:21the ladies that were bringing the donuts to
- 4:22the Salvation Army.
- 4:23The second one is more of a promotional
- 4:25event.
- 4:26Now, when you go to a store, you're
- 4:28not supposed to have to buy anything.
- 4:30I went to one store today and they're
- 4:32like, oh, well, you have to buy something.
- 4:36So I politely took my phone and I
- 4:38said, okay.
- 4:39I said, I'm going to note this.
- 4:41I said, when I post my video, I'm
- 4:43going to note it and let everybody know
- 4:44that this particular store does not support National
- 4:49Donut Day.
- 4:49You have to buy something.
- 4:51It was, oh, no, no, no, no, no,
- 4:52no, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, because I
- 4:53can use these donuts.
- 4:56You know, it's not the cost of the
- 4:57donut.
- 4:57It's really the community spirit and the fact
- 5:00that when we have the donut, we can
- 5:02actually be mindful.
- 5:03So I went to a few different places
- 5:05today.
- 5:05I froze some of the donuts, by the
- 5:06way.
- 5:06And yes, so that was interesting.
- 5:09And there was one place I have to
- 5:11give a kudos to, Duck Donuts.
- 5:13So Duck Donuts is an interesting company.
- 5:16I went out to see them and out
- 5:18of all the people I tagged, they were
- 5:21the only ones, so far, that came back
- 5:26and said, thank you for stopping by.
- 5:28I thought that was very genuine and I
- 5:31would definitely go back to Duck Donuts.
- 5:32It was in Paramus, New Jersey.
- 5:34But, you know, it could be anywhere.
- 5:36It was an interesting concept and they were
- 5:39just nice people.
- 5:40And I even gave them a praise of
- 5:41how nice the people were and stuff like
- 5:43that.
- 5:43So, again, this is National Donut Day.
- 5:46If you have not gotten your donut, go
- 5:49get it before 9 o'clock tonight.
- 5:51Most stores like ShopRite and some of the
- 5:54stores, they typically won't give you a donut
- 5:56if they sell them only in packages.
- 5:59If they have them, like, you know, they're
- 6:01bulk, sure, they'll probably give you a donut.
- 6:04My parents at their country club tonight, as
- 6:07I told them about National Donut Day, and
- 6:09they told the server about National Donut Day,
- 6:12and 10 minutes later, they came back with
- 6:15a whole box of Dunkin' Donuts for the
- 6:17table.
- 6:17Pretty cool, right?
- 6:19All right, guys, let's get into this show,
- 6:20all right?
- 6:21In case you don't know who I am,
- 6:22who am I?
- 6:23Well, let me tell you.
- 6:24I'm John C.
- 6:25Morley.
- 6:25I'm a serial entrepreneur, an engineer, marketing specialist,
- 6:27video producer, podcast host, coach, keynote speaker.
- 6:31Yes, graduate student, passionate lifelong learner, and I'm
- 6:35very grateful, ladies and gentlemen, to now be
- 6:36a published author.
- 6:39And I'm here to deliver a powerful execution,
- 6:42focused message in building your life with discipline
- 6:45as we close this week, growth and ownership.
- 6:48And this is all about Series 5 and
- 6:50Show 23, and we're about turning principles into
- 6:53real-world results.
- 6:55So understanding the execution is what tonight's show
- 6:59is about.
- 7:00And understanding the execution is only part of
- 7:03the game.
- 7:04We also have to understand that we manage
- 7:07that, right?
- 7:07We manage that.
- 7:08We understand the execution, the results, and the
- 7:10ownership of that.
- 7:12So number one, let's just dive right in.
- 7:14Take action daily.
- 7:15Small, consistent actions.
- 7:17Don't try to be a hero.
- 7:18Steps create progress.
- 7:20Waiting until things later just delays your growth.
- 7:25And it's a way of procrastinating.
- 7:26People think it's okay to procrastinate because the
- 7:29Jones are doing it.
- 7:30The Martins are doing it.
- 7:31Everyone else is doing it, okay?
- 7:33And I think that's an important thing that
- 7:36most people don't gather that.
- 7:39And National Donut Day is one of those
- 7:42things where a lot of people were too
- 7:44busy, but for me, it wasn't just about
- 7:47the free donut.
- 7:48It was about celebrating history.
- 7:53Now, there's a company out there that does
- 7:54National Days, but a lot of it's promotional
- 7:56mumbo-jumbo.
- 7:58So I don't really support every National Day,
- 8:01but there are a couple that I pay
- 8:02attention to, and I believe it's important to
- 8:04share the history of them.
- 8:05Number two, focus on outcomes.
- 8:08Stay centered on results, not just activity.
- 8:12What you achieve matters more than what you
- 8:15start.
- 8:16Finish tasks.
- 8:17Number three, completion, to the completion.
- 8:20Build confidence and momentum.
- 8:22Unfinished work drains energy.
- 8:25And a lot of people are like, well,
- 8:27I don't know what I was supposed to
- 8:28do.
- 8:29Like, I don't have any more energy, exactly.
- 8:31So I think what it comes down to
- 8:33is that you need to plan a little
- 8:36bit.
- 8:38And so thanks so much, Pete.
- 8:41I appreciate the like tonight.
- 8:44Thank you so much for doing that.
- 8:46Thank you for the like.
- 8:48I do appreciate that.
- 8:52So I think when we think about all
- 8:56this stuff, we have to realize and be
- 9:00present all the time.
- 9:01I think that's probably one of the most
- 9:03important things, is to be present, okay, be
- 9:10present all the time.
- 9:11Just like today, today was about National Donut
- 9:14Day.
- 9:15Number four, avoid perfectionism.
- 9:17I know I've been guilty of it.
- 9:18We always wanna make everything perfect, even with
- 9:20like a websites we're putting up.
- 9:22Do the site, get it done, done is
- 9:25better than perfect.
- 9:25You can always make it better, right?
- 9:29Avoid the perfectionism, perfection will slow the progress
- 9:33down.
- 9:35And done well beats perfect.
- 9:36So done is better than perfect and delayed
- 9:38and procrastination.
- 9:39Because when we procrastinate, it's like, I wanna
- 9:41get that done, but I couldn't because this
- 9:43was happening, that was happening.
- 9:44And then we make excuse for ourself why
- 9:46we didn't do it, right?
- 9:49I think a lot of people out there
- 9:52make the excuses because of one reason.
- 9:57Because they haven't been consistent.
- 10:00They didn't have a structure.
- 10:02So they're gonna blame time.
- 10:06They're gonna blame things that really have nothing
- 10:10to do with why it didn't get done.
- 10:12The real reason was they weren't consistent, and
- 10:15they didn't have a structure.
- 10:17But we can go find a million other
- 10:18things out there that really aren't related to
- 10:23why we didn't get it done.
- 10:25But we could try to blame it on
- 10:26that cuz it sounds good.
- 10:28And it makes us feel better.
- 10:29That's a terrible way to operate.
- 10:31Number five, move quickly.
- 10:34Speed creates opportunity and learning.
- 10:38Action beats hesitation every single time.
- 10:42Why do people not take action?
- 10:43They hesitate.
- 10:44They don't know if they should or they
- 10:47shouldn't, right?
- 10:48They always say, get on or get off
- 10:49the pot.
- 10:51And that's important to know.
- 10:55That's very important to know, all right?
- 10:59Number six, stay efficient.
- 11:02Use your time and your energy wisely.
- 11:04Cut what doesn't produce value.
- 11:07Many people I know do not wanna cut
- 11:10things.
- 11:11It's like a side of us we don't
- 11:15wanna get rid of.
- 11:17But sometimes cutting things is a good thing,
- 11:21right?
- 11:22We can make space for things in our
- 11:24life that maybe we actually want.
- 11:27When we have too many things in our
- 11:29life and they're not going anywhere, that can
- 11:30cause a very big problem.
- 11:32Number seven, track the results.
- 11:35Measure what you do.
- 11:36If you can't measure it, you can't change
- 11:39it.
- 11:40Data reveals what's working and what's not.
- 11:43And if you're not getting data, well, I
- 11:45think the first step is to either figure
- 11:46out how to get the data or hire
- 11:48some people that can help you get the
- 11:50data.
- 11:51That is one of the most important things
- 11:53I can tell you.
- 11:54Being an engineer, being a serial entrepreneur, being
- 11:56a marketing expert, it comes down to data.
- 11:59It comes down to truth.
- 12:01It comes down to integrity.
- 12:03And I was sharing a story about how
- 12:06these large, very large marketing firms claim to
- 12:11know everything, but really, they know nothing.
- 12:13Do I know everything?
- 12:14No, but I knew more than they did.
- 12:17And I was using one for many years
- 12:19and then I got tired and I fired
- 12:21them and I built my own marketing advertising
- 12:22company.
- 12:24There was another group, I'm not gonna mention
- 12:26the name, but there was another group in
- 12:27New Jersey that was doing these kind of
- 12:29networking events.
- 12:31And whenever I put my comment down, it
- 12:34always gets deleted.
- 12:35And the thing about their events is this.
- 12:38They run one kind of event, then they
- 12:40run a certain chamber.
- 12:42But here's the thing, they have big mailing
- 12:47lists.
- 12:48And they have big pockets to really lure
- 12:51people in.
- 12:52But you know what they don't get in?
- 12:54They don't get quality.
- 12:56So I responded back to one today.
- 12:58That's great that you can get a room
- 12:59full of 200 or 500 people.
- 13:01I'll take five or ten good guys on
- 13:04the golf course, whether they can play or
- 13:06not, that are high quality any day.
- 13:09And he didn't respond, he just deleted my
- 13:12comment.
- 13:12The next thing I did when I went
- 13:14back, I put a little sad face.
- 13:16So these people are manipulators.
- 13:19Again, I'm not gonna give you the name,
- 13:20that would be out of school.
- 13:22But what I wanna tell you is that
- 13:23just because a lot of people show up,
- 13:26doesn't mean squat.
- 13:27It just means you got a lot of
- 13:29people in the room.
- 13:32Those people come because of the free food.
- 13:34Well, it's not really free.
- 13:35You pay money, you can eat as much
- 13:36as you want, and you pay for your
- 13:37drinks.
- 13:38To me, that's not a very worthwhile use
- 13:44of time, okay?
- 13:48As I've gotten older, I'm realizing that the
- 13:50quality of people I spend time with are
- 13:53really important, not just the time that I
- 13:56spend.
- 13:57And the data about that has revealed everything.
- 14:00I remember the days when I would send
- 14:01out thank you cards.
- 14:03Nobody would do that in the mail.
- 14:06And I designed my own thank you card.
- 14:07It was nice to meet you, it was
- 14:09like a shaking hand card.
- 14:11And a lot of these people, they were
- 14:12trying to heavy pitch.
- 14:15And to me, that's not it.
- 14:19So I have a slogan with 5-1
- 14:21-C-3 that I run.
- 14:22It's all about relationships before transactions.
- 14:28And somebody who doesn't like that, well, because
- 14:31they're about superficial things.
- 14:33Number eight, adjust your strategy, stay flexible, and
- 14:36improve continuously.
- 14:38Things may not be coming through the front
- 14:40door or through the side door.
- 14:41They may be coming in through a window
- 14:43or maybe through the chimney.
- 14:45What worked yesterday may not work tomorrow and
- 14:47don't get upset because it doesn't work.
- 14:49You need to retool, regroup.
- 14:53Don't get bent out of shape because, it
- 14:55didn't work.
- 14:55I did this for years and now it's
- 14:57not working.
- 14:57Okay, it's not working.
- 14:58So try something else.
- 15:01Number nine, stay accountable.
- 15:03Own your actions and your results.
- 15:05Responsibility drives real change.
- 15:09I think when we understand that, and other
- 15:11people understand that, then you will understand that
- 15:13you don't care if there's 200 or 500
- 15:15people in the room.
- 15:16You know, when there's that many people in
- 15:18the room, I can't get to talk to
- 15:19everybody.
- 15:20And I remember those days when I would
- 15:22go to those events.
- 15:24They were just so superficial.
- 15:27And I could tell they weren't interested in
- 15:28me.
- 15:29I was interested in them, but it was
- 15:31just a very surface level interaction.
- 15:36What do you want?
- 15:37You got 200 or 500 people in a
- 15:39room and you pile them in because of
- 15:41all the food you're serving.
- 15:43That's not networking.
- 15:45That's a business model for the person running
- 15:48the organization.
- 15:49They're charging $40 a head.
- 15:52They're charging $100, $200 a table.
- 15:54You do the math on that, right?
- 15:56If you have 250 people, right?
- 16:00Assuming they all registered early bird, which I
- 16:02think is like 39 or $40, right?
- 16:06Assuming they all registered early bird, right?
- 16:08That's $8,000.
- 16:14Okay, and they still don't give you squat.
- 16:16They don't give you any food.
- 16:17They're giving you some apps and stuff like
- 16:19that.
- 16:19But he's not paying for any of that.
- 16:22And to me, I've had a conversation with
- 16:25the people that run it, and I've had
- 16:26some suggestions.
- 16:28And even when I try to put my
- 16:29messages on their boards, they don't allow them.
- 16:32You know why?
- 16:33Because I get the truth.
- 16:36Anybody I talk to, I'm gonna tell them
- 16:38a few people are better than 500.
- 16:43I mean, that's the truth, right?
- 16:44Some people get so impressed because a room's
- 16:46filled with 200 or 500 people.
- 16:48I'm not impressed, right?
- 16:50If I'm speaking to somebody and you're coming
- 16:52to my keynote, yeah, I'm impressed with that,
- 16:54because that's more tickets sold for me.
- 16:56But I'm not impressed that you've got a
- 16:58networking event, you've got 500 people there.
- 17:00Those 500 people may not be my target.
- 17:03Those 500 people may not be even open.
- 17:05Those 500 people probably are gonna try to
- 17:07pitch me.
- 17:08I don't want that.
- 17:09Ooh, ugh.
- 17:11Number 10, measure progress.
- 17:14Progress keeps you motivated.
- 17:16If you don't know how to measure it,
- 17:18figure out how to measure it or get
- 17:20someone that can measure it for you.
- 17:23Or implement a system where you can track
- 17:25the metrics.
- 17:27I was doing advertising online, a great organization
- 17:30I was working with.
- 17:32They always said that we're doing a lot
- 17:33for you.
- 17:33I said, well, I appreciate that.
- 17:35We weren't getting any ticket sales from them.
- 17:37So I gave them a link.
- 17:39Guess what?
- 17:40We are not getting any sales from them.
- 17:44But now, they have their link.
- 17:46So now they can say, well, we say,
- 17:47you haven't sent anybody.
- 17:49I can see exactly that you had zero
- 17:52clicks in the last 30 days.
- 17:54Forget ticket sales.
- 17:55Nobody even came to my site because of
- 17:57the link I gave you.
- 17:59Clear metrics is the key.
- 18:00Keeps you grounded.
- 18:02And most importantly, guys, you gotta be humble,
- 18:05right?
- 18:06You gotta be humble, and you gotta start
- 18:09somewhere, right?
- 18:10You don't start up here, you start down
- 18:12here.
- 18:15So when I run my events, I tell
- 18:16people, I'm running a small event.
- 18:19Maybe we're gonna get five, ten people, maybe

- 18:34Busy work doesn't build success.
- 18:36Many people think it does and it tires
- 18:38you out.
- 18:38But it doesn't build success at all.
- 18:41Number 12, prioritize effectively.
- 18:43Not everything matters equally, guys.
- 18:46Choose what moves the needle most, right?
- 18:50Everything might fluctuate the needle, but what moves
- 18:53your needle the most?
- 18:56Number 13, avoid the distractions.
- 18:59Protect your focus at all costs.
- 19:03There are people out there that are gonna
- 19:05try to lure you.
- 19:06I had another gentleman today.
- 19:09We were with him a few years ago.
- 19:10And I told him, I said, your platform's
- 19:13not working for us.
- 19:14You know, we're not getting business from it.
- 19:15And he says to me, oh, okay.
- 19:17And he gets back to me.
- 19:18Then he sends me another email.
- 19:20And I said, I already told you that
- 19:21we're not renewing.
- 19:23Comes back with like a sob story email.
- 19:25He goes, oh, John, he's like, you know,
- 19:26you broke my heart that you're not renewing.
- 19:29And I write back very politely.
- 19:30I said, I'll call him Dan.
- 19:32That wasn't his name.
- 19:32Hey, Dan, I'm so sorry about that.
- 19:37I think I said, hi, Dan.
- 19:38And I said, I'm sorry that we're breaking
- 19:41your heart.
- 19:43It's just not a fit for us.
- 19:45It's nothing personal, it's just business.
- 19:47You'll find somebody to replace my business, I'm
- 19:49sure, very shortly.
- 19:50And you'll forget all about me.
- 19:52He never came back at all.
- 19:54He never came back at all.
- 19:58I think that's an important thing to realize
- 20:03is that these people that say they're there
- 20:05for you, they're really not there for you.
- 20:09Nope, not at all.
- 20:12Distraction steals your potential, guys.
- 20:15Learn how to manage it so that it
- 20:17doesn't cause a big problem.
- 20:19Number 14, execute plans.
- 20:21Plans mean nothing without action, right?
- 20:25Execution is where success lives.
- 20:28I've had the same people I was telling
- 20:32you about, told them I was building a
- 20:34new site, but it took me some time
- 20:36to do it.
- 20:36This was writing from scratch and not using
- 20:39a Wix or anything like that, writing a
- 20:41custom web content management system.
- 20:43And right away, they're here to tell me
- 20:46that they do this, they do that, they
- 20:47have so many hundred mailings, so many emails.
- 20:50In the back of my mind, I'm like,
- 20:51so what?
- 20:54You have 3,000 people you email and
- 20:57basically you harass via an email and ask
- 20:59them to come and you are selling everybody
- 21:02a very bad bill of goods.
- 21:08Because none of those people in that room
- 21:11do business with each other, very rarely.
- 21:16The only person that's making money is you
- 21:19making $8,000 or whatever you're making.
- 21:24And you're not even spending any of that
- 21:26money to put food on the table.
- 21:30You're just asking the bar to put food
- 21:35out for you based on the number of
- 21:36people.
- 21:40That's a bad host.
- 21:42Number 15, stay disciplined, my friends, in action,

- 21:49I know a lot of people just wanna
- 21:50push one day.
- 21:52I get it, but you gotta keep pushing.
- 21:55So you push hard one day, every day
- 21:58has gotta be the same push.
- 21:59So you'll burn out if you do that
- 22:01sometimes, right?
- 22:03Discipline will build the reliability, okay?
- 22:06We've said motivation is good, but it's your
- 22:08discipline that keeps you getting up in the
- 22:10morning.
- 22:11It's your discipline that gets you closer to
- 22:13your dreams.
- 22:15Number 16, build momentum, small wins stack into

- 22:42That's important.
- 22:43To this day, I can tell you so
- 22:45many people that network and they get impressed
- 22:47by the number of people in the room.
- 22:50And I just say to myself, don't these
- 22:54people understand that they're not valuable?
- 23:00They're just trying to pitch you.

- 23:22Strong systems create consistent results.
- 23:24Once you figure out how a system works,
- 23:26you better embrace that system.
- 23:28You better marry that system, okay?
- 23:30Because that's gonna be your gold egg.
- 23:33Build processes that support success.
- 23:37Have your systems allow other people to be
- 23:40part of it, but don't make it a
- 23:42way that it has to fit one person.
- 23:45Realize that people are replaceable in your tasks.
- 23:49When you think they're not, that's when you
