- 0:19Amber: Hello, TPR nation. This is Amber Kuhn. Thank you for
- 0:22joining me on today's Follow up Friday where I'll be recapping
- 0:25this week's episode highlights and action items. On Monday Matt
- 0:29was joined by Claire Myers Vitale from Claire Myers
- 0:31Consulting, where she helps advisors build their teams.
- 0:34Claire and Matt discuss compensation which isn't always
- 0:37about having a base and some major bonus structure making
- 0:40offers and when it's the time to bring someone into your team.
- 0:44Claire said when it comes to helping advisors get started
- 0:47with this, that it really all begins with that first
- 0:50introductory call because sometimes what an advisor thinks
- 0:53they want is actually different from what they need. She said it
- 0:56comes back to what value are you providing your clients and are
- 1:00you able to fulfill that value? If you can't, you need to work
- 1:03on what investment you want to make an organization. It's all
- 1:06about what you're trying to accomplish in your practice.
- 1:09Sometimes, though, the question is really whether you need to
- 1:13bring someone on or if your team is just not performing
- 1:16correctly. That's not to make sure you are trying to cover up
- 1:19a bad system by making another hire. Sometimes this is more of
- 1:22a systems issue. Claire said most people need to hire an
- 1:25executive assistant sooner than they think they do. That the
- 1:28second year calendar is at capacity. That's when you should
- 1:32think about hiring someone and it takes between 45 to 60 days
- 1:35to find someone so overall you're looking at around three
- 1:38months or more before you actually are able to bring
- 1:41someone in. As far as what makes an attractive offer, Claire said
- 1:44you have to make sure that you have a really strong value
- 1:47proposition and your ideal client is honed in. She said
- 1:50that compensation is a driver to attracting the right person and
- 1:54equity compensation and a part of some sort of ownership is big
- 1:57as well, especially when it comes to lead advisors. And part
- 2:00of what can be attractive to a potential hire is what you do in
- 2:04your community and how you're helping others. Claire said you
- 2:07can also differentiate yourself with benefits that you offer as
- 2:10well that aren't just about writing big checks. So some
- 2:13examples of those are sabbaticals, community service
- 2:16days, flexibility with time or even finding out something that
- 2:19the potential employee is passionate about that you can
- 2:22accommodate for. These are things that stand out in the
- 2:25selection process. Claire said that if you're hiring someone on
- 2:29your own, you need to make sure you understand what kind of
- 2:32culture you want. Be sure to screen for that. Let's get into
- 2:35action items. If you need to add team members, use a recruiter.
- 2:39Hire someone to help you through this. Of course we've linked
- 2:42Claire's information if you'd like to connect with her for
- 2:45your needs, work on your value proposition. Take what you use
- 2:48for your clients and flip that into attracting the right
- 2:51talent. With that, look at your LinkedIn presence and post your
- 2:55community involvement and client testimonials. Now if you are
- 2:58going to hire someone on your own, utilize Chat GPT for your
- 3:01job description. If you're going to post on LinkedIn, sponsor it
- 3:05and don't leave it up longer than a week. Lastly, something
- 3:08that was near to Claire's passion is to look up foster
- 3:11care closets in your community. Thursday was an encore episode
- 3:14of Worlds to Conquer where Jamie walked through the onboarding
- 3:17process for what happens once you get hired by a client
- 3:20focusing on creating a solid foundation and what to do during
- 3:24that first year to deliver massive and how does that work
- 3:27during surge? With Client Onboarding, Jamie said you need
- 3:30to hit a homerun once the prospect has said yes and hired
- 3:33you. You need to make sure that you truly have a plan for what
- 3:36you're going to do for the rest of the year to deliver massive
- 3:40value. Especially when you get hired by a client at the
- 3:43beginning of surge and you're not available to meet with him
- 3:46for a couple of months. Jamie said setting those expectations
- 3:49from the get go is so important. And it's something that you set
- 3:52when they're a prospect because they already know that they can
- 3:56expect to meet with a financial advisor immediately. In some
- 3:59instances the new client might meet with an advisor during a
- 4:02buffer day at the end of surge. But if not in in the meantime,
- 4:06they have all the homework outline for both what the
- 4:08advisor and team needs to do, as well as what the client needs to
- 4:12do in between the time that they're hired and their next
- 4:15meeting. And they go through all of this list with the client.
- 4:18They provide action items for the client at the end of their
- 4:22meetings and attach deadlines that the client agrees to. If
- 4:25that time has passed without the client providing that
- 4:28information, then the RM or the ops team can reach out depending
- 4:31on what that item is. Jamie said you want to make sure that
- 4:34you're giving the client small digestible tasks and milestones
- 4:38that they can achieve. When Jamie's talking with clients for
- 4:41their onboarding, she compares the building their financial
- 4:44plan to building a house and how it all starts with a good
- 4:47foundation. And that estate planning needs to happen first
- 4:50because without it, nothing that they put together matters. And
- 4:54it's something that clients will want but also hoarsely tackle
- 4:57this first. And she sets the expectation for what they'll be
- 5:00discussing in each meeting. And so of course, every time they
- 5:04meet she's reinforcing what they're doing and what they're
- 5:07trying to accomplish. Jamie will also talk about cashflow and a
- 5:10client spending plan and incorporating that into their
- 5:13financial plan. And this is something that we'll talk about
- 5:16at every single meeting. They'll go through goals, tax planning,
- 5:20investments and insurance but all of this is shared as things
- 5:23that they'll be discussing over the next couple of years. And in
- 5:26every meeting over the next couple of years, Jamie will
- 5:29reference building that house and comparing it to the
- 5:32financial plan and reinforcing what they're doing. Jamie
- 5:35mentioned that it's easy to have head trash about not having
- 5:38contact with clients in between meetings. And she said the best
- 5:42fix for that is to check your CRM to see that communication
- 5:45between the client and your team. It's a reminder that the
- 5:48client will have multiple points of contact but they don't always
- 5:52need to talk to the financial advisor directly on things. And
- 5:55it's okay to set standards with your client so that they
- 5:58understand who they'll be communicating with and that it
- 6:01won't always be with the financial advisor. Let's get an
- 6:04action items. Remember that you need to set good expectations.
- 6:07Whatever you said in the beginning is what will last
- 6:10until the very end. You can't expect your team to follow all
- 6:13the processes you've laid out. If you can't make an exception
- 6:17so do what your say you're going to do. Make sure to lay out what
- 6:20your financial planning process will be for your clients so they
- 6:23understand how things will be achieved over time. Check your
- 6:27CRM to see all the points of contact and put the words for so
- 6:30that you're only talking to clients every couple of months.
- 6:33But the team is talking with them more frequently. And trust
- 6:36in your processes, your systems and in your team. Before we go
