- 0:21Speaker 1: end zone. Our ten yard touchdown reception for Puppas and
- 0:26Speaker 1: the kid out of Washington State has found himself a
- 0:29Speaker 1: place on this team. Powered by Seahawks dot Com. You
- 0:33Speaker 1: are listening to Hawk Talk Preview with me Michael Bumpas
- 0:36Speaker 1: along with Nasty Choby. Week seventeen, The end is here.
- 0:40Speaker 1: One more week to finish the season. The Hawks go
- 0:42Speaker 1: down to Arizona to play the San Francisco forty nineties.
- 0:46Speaker 1: But before we do all that, here's NAS with injury updates.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Thanks mount pretty light injury report today. Good news. Cornerback
- 0:53Speaker 1: Trey Flowers is back and should be a full go
- 0:55Speaker 1: throughout the week and able to play on Sunday. Right
- 0:57Speaker 1: tackle Brandon Shell made it back to practice on Wednesday.
- 1:00Speaker 1: He was limited as he tries to return from that
- 1:02Speaker 1: ankle injury he suffered against the Jets. The only real
- 1:05Speaker 1: negative thing is it looks like wide receiver Phillips door
- 1:08Speaker 1: Set will not be able to return this season. He
- 1:11Speaker 1: was placed on IR after getting foot surgery in November.
- 1:14Speaker 1: He's been working really hard to get back on the field.
- 1:16Speaker 1: The head coach Pete Carroll isn't sure he'll make it back,
- 1:18Speaker 1: even if the Seahawks make a deep run into the playoffs.
- 1:21Speaker 1: I don't think Philip's gonna make it, you know, I
- 1:24Speaker 1: had to come him out of you know, if we
- 1:26Speaker 1: were fortunate to be playing a month from now. But
- 1:28Speaker 1: he's working hard. I saw him working again today in
- 1:31Speaker 1: the weight room. He's busting, it's doing a lot of
- 1:33Speaker 1: good stuff. But it's gonna be a hall for him
- 1:34Speaker 1: to make it back, all right. Before we get going,
- 1:36Speaker 1: find complete Seahawks coverage on seven ten ESPN Seattle, the

- 1:42Speaker 1: dot Com seven ten ESPN Seattle, The Voice of Seattle.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Sports Week seventeen. The Seahawks already got the NFC West
- 1:49Speaker 1: locked up, but they got to finish business against the
- 1:51Speaker 1: San Francisco forty nine ers. Who's next Who's next? Who's next?
- 2:00Speaker 1: Six and nine? San Francisco forty nine Ers last place
- 2:04Speaker 1: in the NFC West, but still a team that is battling.
- 2:07Speaker 1: That's who the Hawks played next. Let's look at their schedule.
- 2:11Speaker 1: They beat two teams with new in their name, the
- 2:14Speaker 1: New York Jets the New York Giants, and loss to
- 2:17Speaker 1: the New Orleans Say it's been beat the New England Pages.
- 2:20Speaker 1: There's a lot of news out there. Beat those guys,
- 2:23Speaker 1: the Rams. They beat the Rams twice, which is pretty impressive.
- 2:26Speaker 1: The Rams have the number one defense in the league.
- 2:28Speaker 1: I don't know if that still stands, but have a
- 2:30Speaker 1: pretty good team and they just came off a win
- 2:32Speaker 1: versus Arizona Cardinals six and nine. This might be low
- 2:36Speaker 1: key like the best six and nine team I've seen
- 2:38Speaker 1: in a while. They're banged up, they still have found
- 2:41Speaker 1: ways to produce. Last week, they beat the Arizona Cardinals
- 2:44Speaker 1: with Beth the number three, sorry number three, the third
- 2:48Speaker 1: string quarterback in backup running back Jeff Wilson had a
- 2:52Speaker 1: day one hundred and eighty one yards. George Kittle was back,
- 2:55Speaker 1: so there's some hope for the forty nine ers to
- 2:57Speaker 1: at least play decent this week because they showed they
- 2:59Speaker 1: can get it them. Bath was thirteen to twenty two,
- 3:02Speaker 1: one hundred and eighty two yards, three touchdowns. The kid
- 3:05Speaker 1: was one and nine as a starter before them, but
- 3:08Speaker 1: now he is two and nine. He hasn't thrown an interception,
- 3:11Speaker 1: so they'll take care of the football. But he's not
- 3:13Speaker 1: gonna wow you with the big throws, and with guys
- 3:16Speaker 1: like George Kittle healthy, he might not have to do that.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Kyler Murray, but all right, not terrible. Thirty one for
- 3:22Speaker 1: fifty two hundred and forty seven yards, one interception, sacked
- 3:25Speaker 1: three times, had eight carres for seventy five yards. I
- 3:28Speaker 1: was surprised with the outcome of this game. Nas I
- 3:31Speaker 1: thought the Cardinals had a sense of urgency. They're making
- 3:34Speaker 1: a playoff push, They're gonna play some of their best football. Instead,
- 3:37Speaker 1: we saw the underdogs come away with a win. If
- 3:39Speaker 1: you're the Cardinals, man, you gotta be so disappointed. If
- 3:42Speaker 1: you're if you're that whole coaching staff, that fan base,
- 3:45Speaker 1: everything that goes into it, you gotta be so disappointed.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Because the Cardinals still had every everything to play for.
- 3:50Speaker 1: They could have clinched the playoff. Berth they had everything
- 3:52Speaker 1: in front of them. The Niners, they're done, They're seasons over.
- 3:54Speaker 1: They got not seen to play for. They had to
- 3:56Speaker 1: move their whole operation error Zonus. They're playing home games
- 3:59Speaker 1: and different stadium, they're away from their families, are cooped
- 4:02Speaker 1: up in a hotel. All this COVID protocol talk not
- 4:04Speaker 1: to mention all of the injuries they've had to deal
- 4:06Speaker 1: with this year, and it continued on Sunday, But no
- 4:09Speaker 1: one told them that because they came out and they're
- 4:11Speaker 1: more physical than the Cardinals. They did what they had
- 4:13Speaker 1: to do to win, and it's it's shocking to me.
- 4:16Speaker 1: And I think the one thing I'll say about that
- 4:18Speaker 1: is I think we all know that if you look
- 4:19Speaker 1: at these two teams on paper, the Seahawks have the
- 4:21Speaker 1: better football team, especially given who the forty nine ers
- 4:23Speaker 1: is gonna put out there on Sunday. But you can't
- 4:25Speaker 1: take these team lightly, man. I mean the Rams found
- 4:28Speaker 1: that out against the Jets. The Browns found that out
- 4:29Speaker 1: against the Jets. Like guys in the NFL sell up pride.
- 4:33Speaker 1: They still have things to play for. They're still getting paid,
- 4:35Speaker 1: they're still trying to get their film out there for
- 4:36Speaker 1: whatever's gonna be next for the next team they play
- 4:39Speaker 1: for audition to stay on that team. So they're gonna
- 4:42Speaker 1: bring it. And that's the thing I think, Shanahan. The
- 4:44Speaker 1: one you can thing you can say about the forty
- 4:46Speaker 1: nine ers is they're resilient. Man. They are absolutely resilient,
- 4:49Speaker 1: and they're gonna They're gonna keep fighting. And I mentioned
- 4:52Speaker 1: the injury bug on Sunday, Head coach A. Kyle Shannion
- 4:55Speaker 1: already ruled out left tackle Trent Williams and Star Rickie
- 4:58Speaker 1: wide receiver your guy Brandon Aiyuk for Sunday's game. Sherman's
- 5:02Speaker 1: also gonna miss that game and could be the last
- 5:04Speaker 1: game in the Niners uniform for them. So, man, I mean,
- 5:07Speaker 1: I've never seen a team this injured throughout the year.
- 5:11Speaker 1: I mean, the Seahawks got pretty banked up last year,
- 5:13Speaker 1: but it has hit every single position group on that
- 5:15Speaker 1: football team. But they're out there so fighting. At one point,
- 5:19Speaker 1: I think I saw that the forty nine Ers had
- 5:21Speaker 1: about fifty to sixty million tied up in injuries. That's
- 5:24Speaker 1: how much money they had on the bench. So these
- 5:27Speaker 1: guys are finishing strong, they're battling, so they're gonna come
- 5:29Speaker 1: out and there's nothing like beating the Seahawks. If they
- 5:32Speaker 1: can get it done, this means a lot to them.
- 5:34Speaker 1: They're not going to the playoffs. This is kind of
- 5:36Speaker 1: like the NFC West Bowl Game. They got a bowl
- 5:39Speaker 1: game here playing against the Seahawks. So now let's break
- 5:43Speaker 1: these teams down. Offensively, the Seahawks are ranked thirteenth to
- 5:46Speaker 1: forty nine Ers are still in there. Their rank fifteen
- 5:49Speaker 1: rush offense, the Hawks are eleventh, the forty nine Ers
- 5:51Speaker 1: are thirteenth. Pass offense Hawks or fourteenth. Niners are twelve,
- 5:57Speaker 1: and points per game the Hawks are seventh, the forty
- 6:00Speaker 1: or twentieth. You look at just the offensive stats, it
- 6:03Speaker 1: tells you that they should be able to put us
- 6:05Speaker 1: some points. They should be in this game. But the
- 6:07Speaker 1: way that this defense has been played, you would assume
- 6:10Speaker 1: that those numbers won't reflect what's gonna happen on Sunday.
- 6:13Speaker 1: But like you just mentioned, as you never know. This
- 6:16Speaker 1: is the NFL. These guys get paid. All these dudes
- 6:18Speaker 1: were starters on their high school and college teams and
- 6:21Speaker 1: had some success to the league, so they will be
- 6:24Speaker 1: here to battle. What are you seeing out of these
- 6:26Speaker 1: two defenses? Well, I think if you look at the
- 6:29Speaker 1: tailor table in terms of headhead comparison. What we see
- 6:31Speaker 1: the numbers wives. I mean, the Niners still somehow fifth
- 6:34Speaker 1: in total defense, they're six in rush defense, fourth in
- 6:37Speaker 1: past defense, seventeenth in points per game. To flip over
- 6:40Speaker 1: to the Seahawks, they're twenty third in total defense, fifth
- 6:43Speaker 1: in rush defense, still thirty second in past defense, but
- 6:46Speaker 1: they've climbed up to twenty third when it comes to
- 6:49Speaker 1: points per game. Obviously, we know a lot of the
- 6:52Speaker 1: damage has been was done early on in the season.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Since Week eleven, the Seattle Seahawks have the best defense
- 6:56Speaker 1: the NFL statistically. We'll get into that a little bit later.
- 7:00Speaker 1: And the Niners just battling. Man. They got a couple
- 7:01Speaker 1: of dudes over there, Fred Warners a great ball player,
- 7:04Speaker 1: so they're good defensively. But I think the one really
- 7:07Speaker 1: missnow more about this whole head head comparison. Going back
- 7:10Speaker 1: to the offensive side, the Seahawks kind of opposite of
- 7:14Speaker 1: their defense. They started off so hot. I mean every
- 7:16Speaker 1: week we were used to look at this. They are
- 7:17Speaker 1: number one, they're number two, they're number three. This is
- 7:20Speaker 1: the first time all the year they fell out of
- 7:21Speaker 1: top ten on offense. But that's where stats will lie
- 7:25Speaker 1: to you, because no matter what you want to say,
- 7:28Speaker 1: the brand of Seahawks football that we've seen in the
- 7:30Speaker 1: last couple of weeks against good defenses is still winning games.
- 7:33Speaker 1: It's not gonna have you put up video game numbers.
- 7:35Speaker 1: You're not gonna put up forty points or also isn't
- 7:37Speaker 1: gonna throw for four touchdowns. But it's winning football. So
- 7:40Speaker 1: I think that's kind of lost in the numbers. And
- 7:42Speaker 1: like I said, our defense is playing incredibly good football
- 7:45Speaker 1: at this point in time. So I mean, look at
- 7:47Speaker 1: the numbers. The teams are closer than you would think statistically,
- 7:52Speaker 1: but obviously the records are who you are. That's the
- 7:54Speaker 1: resume Seahawks eleven and four nine or six and nine
- 7:57Speaker 1: in this instance, numbers do live. This defense is playing well.
- 8:03Speaker 1: I look at this offense. I think the offense. The
- 8:05Speaker 1: numbers are pretty accurately comes at offense. I feel like
- 8:07Speaker 1: that's where they're performing right now, around thirteenth in the league.
- 8:10Speaker 1: But we know they have the potential to be a
- 8:12Speaker 1: top five offense because we have seen it. If offensive
- 8:15Speaker 1: defense start clicking, man, y'all better watch out. The Hawks
- 8:18Speaker 1: are ready for a run. Let's look at the history
- 8:20Speaker 1: of this matchup, no your history, Well, Seahawks lead the
- 8:26Speaker 1: all time series twenty six to seventeen. Seahawks had been
- 8:29Speaker 1: absolutely dominant since Russell Wilson was drafted, winning the series
- 8:33Speaker 1: or winning thirteen of seventeen games in this series and
- 8:35Speaker 1: including nine in a row at one point. Last meeting
- 8:38Speaker 1: between the Seahawks in the forty nine is earlier. This year,
- 8:41Speaker 1: Seahawks won thirty seven to twenty seven, but man bump
- 8:44Speaker 1: that final score was not indicative of how the game
- 8:46Speaker 1: was actually played. The Seahawks were up thirty to seven
- 8:49Speaker 1: with fourteen minutes left in the game. It was a
- 8:51Speaker 1: dominating performance. Jimmy Garoppolo and the company couldn't do anything
- 8:54Speaker 1: on the ground. Forty nine Ers got some three garbage
- 8:57Speaker 1: time touchdowns with Nick Mullins in a quarterback. Garoppolo was
- 9:00Speaker 1: hurt racked up a ton of fourth quarter yardage, which
- 9:03Speaker 1: has kind of been one of the Seahawks weaknesses this
- 9:06Speaker 1: year is getting leads and then giving up a ton
- 9:08Speaker 1: of yards in the fourth quarter. Jimmy g left the
- 9:10Speaker 1: game of an ankle injury. Offensively, Russell Wilson had a
- 9:14Speaker 1: day man. It was him in the DK Metcalf Show
- 9:17Speaker 1: twenty seven to thirty seven, two sixty one, four touchdowns,
- 9:21Speaker 1: DK Metcalf twelve receptions, one hundred and sixty one yards
- 9:23Speaker 1: and two touchdowns. So I think the thing about that game,
- 9:28Speaker 1: that game broke the forty nine ers. Man. They had
- 9:30Speaker 1: had some injuries early on, but there were four and three.
- 9:32Speaker 1: They were so right in the middle of things during
- 9:34Speaker 1: that game when they had their guys playing. This is
- 9:37Speaker 1: before Garoppolo got hurt, before Kittle went down. The Seahawks
- 9:40Speaker 1: were dominating that football game, So I mean it, and
- 9:44Speaker 1: then those guys went down in their season has kind
- 9:46Speaker 1: of tailspin since then. But if anything, and if the
- 9:50Speaker 1: first game is any indication, I think the Seahawks will
- 9:52Speaker 1: be able to get stuff done offensively. I think this
- 9:55Speaker 1: game will look a little different because Chris Carson is available,
- 9:58Speaker 1: Carlos Side is available, or side pennies available. So the
- 10:01Speaker 1: numbers might be a little skewed statistically, but I do
- 10:03Speaker 1: think this is a good precursor of what we can
- 10:05Speaker 1: see in the second matchup. You spoke about DK that
- 10:08Speaker 1: last matchup, he was twelve for one sixty one and
- 10:10Speaker 1: two touchdowns. He needs six more yards to break Steve
- 10:14Speaker 1: Largen's receiving yards in a season record, Largens at twelve
- 10:18Speaker 1: eighty seven. And also Tyler Lockett needs thirty six yards
- 10:22Speaker 1: to get a thousand for the season, the first time
- 10:25Speaker 1: the Hawks had two thousand yard receivers in quite some time.
- 10:28Speaker 1: So there are some things that need to get done
- 10:30Speaker 1: on Sunday. We want to win, but we also want
- 10:33Speaker 1: individual accolades. I know it's not about the individual, it's
- 10:36Speaker 1: about the team. Yeah, that sounds good, but I like
- 10:39Speaker 1: seeing guys have individual success. Let's go around the NFC
- 10:42Speaker 1: West what's the word? And the Seahawks or the NFC
- 10:50Speaker 1: West Champs? Again, what's the word in the West? On
- 10:54Speaker 1: Hawk Talk? What's the word? You heard? Rabel Champs is here?
- 10:59Speaker 1: Baby in it? See West? But longs to the Seattle Seahawks.
- 11:02Speaker 1: They are eleven and four. Right behind them, the Rams
- 11:04Speaker 1: are nine and six. The Cardinals are battling to get
- 11:07Speaker 1: into the playoffs at eight and seven, and the Niners
- 11:09Speaker 1: are just throwing haymakers at six and nine, trying to
- 11:14Speaker 1: solo Wrench and what's going on with the Seahouks. But
- 11:17Speaker 1: that ain't gonna happen this weekend, all right? So this
- 11:20Speaker 1: is what we do know about the NFC. Okay, NASA,
- 11:23Speaker 1: if you guys don't know, NASA is the mass scientists.
- 11:25Speaker 1: He's doing all these stats. He's got his laptop up
- 11:27Speaker 1: and I was like, Nas, you didn't see me the
- 11:29Speaker 1: numbers man. I'm gonna let you talk, but let me
- 11:31Speaker 1: let me break down the NFC. So far, the Packers
- 11:34Speaker 1: have clinched the NFC North, the Saints have clinched the
- 11:37Speaker 1: NFAC South, and of course the Seattle Seattle Seahawks have
- 11:40Speaker 1: clinched the NFC West, and Tampa it's in the playoffs.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Tommy boy, this finds a way to win. Granted he's
- 11:46Speaker 1: got some weapons around, don't we expecting him to get
- 11:49Speaker 1: into the playoffs, But longevity, this guy knows how to win.
- 11:52Speaker 1: And now for the specifics, I'm gonna pass it over
- 11:55Speaker 1: to NASA. Choby. There's a lot going on here. There
- 11:57Speaker 1: is a lot going on. When we were talking post game,
- 11:59Speaker 1: I try to start working on all the seeding and
- 12:01Speaker 1: playoffs scenarios, and I stopped myself because I was gonna
- 12:04Speaker 1: need some more time. I was not gonna be able
- 12:05Speaker 1: to get that done in a commercial break, So I've
- 12:07Speaker 1: crunched the numbers. I've looked at stuff just kind of
- 12:09Speaker 1: reset what's going on in the NFC as of today.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Right now, the Packers or the one seed New Orleans
- 12:15Speaker 1: Saints or the two seed Seahawks or the three seed.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Washington is the four seed. In this scenario, all those
- 12:21Speaker 1: teams would host playoff games. The five seed is Tampa
- 12:24Speaker 1: Bay Bucks. The sixth seed is the Los Angeles Rams.
- 12:26Speaker 1: In the seventh seed currently today is the Chicago Bears.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Now here's what needs to happen this weekend. So the
- 12:32Speaker 1: Cardinals are playing the Los Angeles Rams. The Cardinals, if
- 12:36Speaker 1: they get a win, they're in. Okay, if the Chicago
- 12:39Speaker 1: loses and they win, they're in. Now the Bears they
- 12:43Speaker 1: clinch the playoff berth with a win, so they control
- 12:45Speaker 1: their own destiny. But they're going against the Packers. It's
- 12:47Speaker 1: gonna be a tough one. The Bucks, like I mentioned already,
- 12:51Speaker 1: in they're just battling with seating and then the NFC
- 12:54Speaker 1: least or whatever you want to call it. This year,
- 12:57Speaker 1: it's coming down to Week seventeen, like we all assumed,
- 13:01Speaker 1: the Washington football team, they win, they're in. It's a
- 13:04Speaker 1: done deal. The only thing team that can catch them.
- 13:07Speaker 1: So the New York Giants, if they win in Washington loses,
- 13:10Speaker 1: they would win the East. And for the Cowboys they
- 13:14Speaker 1: would need to win and they would need to Washington
- 13:16Speaker 1: to lose. They can tie. I'm not gonna get in
- 13:18Speaker 1: the tie scenarios because that just gets too crazy. But
- 13:21Speaker 1: bump seeding wise, because this is what this is what
- 13:23Speaker 1: really matters to the Seahawks right now. So, as we mentioned,
- 13:26Speaker 1: there is an outside chance the Seahawks could get the
- 13:29Speaker 1: number one seed. For that to happen, they need to
- 13:31Speaker 1: handle business win this weekend, and the Green Bay would
- 13:34Speaker 1: need to lose to Chicago and New Orleans would need
- 13:36Speaker 1: to lose to Carolina. Probably unlikely, but not out of
- 13:39Speaker 1: the realm of possibility right now for the Seahawks. That's
- 13:44Speaker 1: how they get the one seed. If they want the
- 13:45Speaker 1: two seed, they just have to win, and they need
- 13:48Speaker 1: Green Bay or Chicago exceed the Green Bay or New
- 13:51Speaker 1: Orleans to lose, and then right now they're locked into
- 13:54Speaker 1: three seed if they lose. If they win and those
- 13:56Speaker 1: other teams win, they're locked into the three seed. So
- 13:58Speaker 1: if there's a chance, an outside chance five percent, I
- 14:01Speaker 1: think where they can get the number one seat in
- 14:02Speaker 1: the first round, vibe a greater chance to get a
- 14:05Speaker 1: two seed. But bump that just kind of brings me, Now,
- 14:07Speaker 1: we got most of the seating stept out of the way.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Because here's the other thing. I mean, the Bucks could
- 14:12Speaker 1: be the five or the six. The Rams could be
- 14:14Speaker 1: the five, six, seven or eliminated. Cardinals could be six,
- 14:17Speaker 1: seven or eliminated. Bears could be six, seven or eliminated. Now,
- 14:21Speaker 1: with those teams that are available bumped that we could
- 14:22Speaker 1: potentially play in the first round, would you rather play Tampa,
- 14:26Speaker 1: the Rams, the Cardinals or the Bears. I first let
- 14:31Speaker 1: me acknowledge that you going through all the scenarios made
- 14:34Speaker 1: me feel like I was back at Washington State and
- 14:35Speaker 1: I walked into a calculus class and I knew within
- 14:38Speaker 1: ten minutes I was not I was dropping this class,
- 14:40Speaker 1: around dropping this class. So you did a lot, big
- 14:43Speaker 1: us and nass for breaking that down for us. Out
- 14:45Speaker 1: of those scenarios, I want to play the Bears. Man,
- 14:48Speaker 1: play the Bears. I don't believe in Mitch. Don't He's
- 14:50Speaker 1: doing just enough to survive. He's in the deep end
- 14:52Speaker 1: of the pool and he's floating up. He's barely has
- 14:55Speaker 1: his chin over the Water. I would like to play
- 14:57Speaker 1: the Bears, but I think they can handle the Cardinals.
- 15:00Speaker 1: I think they can handle the Raums. The team that
- 15:01Speaker 1: scares me the most, he said, the Buccaneers, Right, yep,
- 15:04Speaker 1: they scared me the most, just because of what they
- 15:06Speaker 1: have on offense and Tom Brady's being the winner that
- 15:08Speaker 1: he is. So I would want to face the Bears.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Anybody can get it, but the easier path. I feel
- 15:14Speaker 1: like we'll be Chicago. What do you think? Well, looking
- 15:17Speaker 1: at it, if you would ask me before I knew
- 15:19Speaker 1: what I knew what was going on in La, I
- 15:21Speaker 1: probably would have said Chicago for sure. The Rams. Think
- 15:24Speaker 1: about the Rams. Watching the game on Sunday, as the
- 15:26Speaker 1: game is going on, I was thinking, you know what,
- 15:28Speaker 1: I don't really want to see them again, just becus
- 15:30Speaker 1: how good they are defensively. They give his issues, but
- 15:33Speaker 1: they're without Jared Goff. Jared Goff broke his thumb. He's
- 15:36Speaker 1: having surgeries for sure, out this weekend. Who knows moving forward,
- 15:40Speaker 1: Cooper Cup that's positive for COVID nineteen. He's gonna be
- 15:43Speaker 1: out this weekend. So they now that matchup with the
- 15:47Speaker 1: Cardinals and the Cardinals a little banged up too. Because
- 15:49Speaker 1: Colin Murray is a little banged up, so that game
- 15:51Speaker 1: is gonna be really interesting to decide some playoffs seating.
- 15:53Speaker 1: So if those two guys are not playing, I want
- 15:56Speaker 1: to play the Rams. Ye I don't care what they're
- 15:58Speaker 1: doing defensively. That the backup quarterback. I'm blanking on his
- 16:01Speaker 1: name because no one's heard of him. Wolford. Wolford, Yeah,
- 16:04Speaker 1: I think he went to Rake Force or something like that.
- 16:06Speaker 1: So if that scenario holds, I want to play them.
- 16:10Speaker 1: But other than that, ye as the Bears. It's without
- 16:12Speaker 1: question the Bears. I think, um Mitchell Drubisky, I think
- 16:15Speaker 1: with the way our defense is playing, I think that
- 16:18Speaker 1: would be a great matchup for us. The Cardinals, I
- 16:21Speaker 1: think I think we have them figure out. I think,
- 16:23Speaker 1: like like you mentioned, we can beat all these teams.
- 16:25Speaker 1: But if I had to choose today, it's the Rams
- 16:28Speaker 1: if they're unhealthy, and then definitely the Bears. The Bucks
- 16:30Speaker 1: scare me because we haven't matched up with them, we
- 16:32Speaker 1: haven't played them, we don't know them. They still got
- 16:34Speaker 1: tom they got Gronk, they got Fournette, they got Evans,
- 16:37Speaker 1: they got dudes Godwin. I mean, it's so it's wide open.
- 16:41Speaker 1: The NFC. I think I read something today that this
- 16:43Speaker 1: is the most possible playoffs scenarios in the last like
- 16:46Speaker 1: thirty some years, heading in his last final week. So
- 16:48Speaker 1: it's gonna be It's gonna be crazy. Get your popcorn ready.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Follow on Twitter, lessen the pregame show. Listening to the game.
- 16:54Speaker 1: We're gonna find out around four thirty on Sunday, what
- 16:56Speaker 1: what's happening, who we're playing and where we're going. All right, well,
- 17:01Speaker 1: you know what now did you put it that way?
- 17:03Speaker 1: You're right? Arizona and Rams is there down. You probably
- 17:05Speaker 1: want to play them because there's familiarity. There's so much film.
- 17:08Speaker 1: They know what, you know, what they like to do.
- 17:11Speaker 1: You recognize their person now. So yeah, but anybody can
- 17:14Speaker 1: get it. MC West champs. Line them up, knock them down,
- 17:17Speaker 1: Let's get it. Let's look at these matchups. Man up
- 17:21Speaker 1: this mass man man up Unhawk talk. Alright, the first matchup,
- 17:31Speaker 1: we're gonna look at it. CJ. Betha versus the Seahawks defense. Now,
- 17:36Speaker 1: Betha made his first start last Sunday since twenty eighteen.
- 17:39Speaker 1: He is two and nine as a starter. Now he's
- 17:41Speaker 1: forty one for sixty seven five hundred forty one yards,
- 17:44Speaker 1: six touchdowns, no interceptions, sack six times. Dude will take
- 17:48Speaker 1: care of the ball. He's a nice he's a nice
- 17:51Speaker 1: store manager. When the Karens come in, he has to
- 17:53Speaker 1: calm people down, He'll calm them down. He'll make sure
- 17:56Speaker 1: they get their refunds. Everybody's good. He's a manager. But
- 18:00Speaker 1: they need more than a manager to beat the Seahawks,
- 18:02Speaker 1: especially the way this defense is playing. You gotta get
- 18:05Speaker 1: after Bethard, all right. The Seahawks defense is playing the
- 18:08Speaker 1: best ball in the league right now. Over the past
- 18:11Speaker 1: six games, they've allowed thirteen point seven points. The same
- 18:14Speaker 1: defense I was allowing them about five hundred points in
- 18:16Speaker 1: the first five six weeks. Thirteen point seven. This is
- 18:19Speaker 1: a great turnaround. I don't think Bethard is enough. He
- 18:22Speaker 1: didn't have to play the game of his life to
- 18:24Speaker 1: beat the Seattle Seahawks, or the Halls would have to sit.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Some guys take him for granted, But I just don't
- 18:28Speaker 1: see that happening. No, I don't see it happening either.
- 18:30Speaker 1: And I think without Ayuk, Ayuk is a huge weapon
- 18:33Speaker 1: loss there they still have Kittle. But other than when
- 18:36Speaker 1: you take Ayuk off the field, they don't have anyone
- 18:38Speaker 1: that really scares you, were threatening You's deep in terms
- 18:40Speaker 1: of the secondary. Kittles a great guy, which we'll get
- 18:42Speaker 1: to in a second here. But with Bethard you mentioned it,
- 18:46Speaker 1: he's he's not gonna kill them, right, but he doesn't
- 18:49Speaker 1: give them the best chance to win if they had
- 18:51Speaker 1: their full stable quarterbacks. And the Seahawks defense you mentioned it,
- 18:54Speaker 1: They've allowed the second fewest yards per play four point
- 18:57Speaker 1: four three and recorded the second most sack to twenty one,
- 19:00Speaker 1: which again is crazy to consider when we were talking
- 19:04Speaker 1: about another week of four hundred yards passing, another week
- 19:07Speaker 1: of five hundred plus yards on offense. Go loud. So
- 19:11Speaker 1: this defense is playing with confidence, playing with swagger. You
- 19:13Speaker 1: heard Jamal Adams, he said, Hey, we're the best defense
- 19:15Speaker 1: NFL right now, And I don't really care if the
- 19:18Speaker 1: numbers all that stuff doesn't matter. When when you have
- 19:20Speaker 1: that confidence as a football player and you're playing with
- 19:22Speaker 1: that confidence and you believe it. In fifty four believes it,
- 19:25Speaker 1: and kJ Wright believes it, and Jordan Brooks believes it,
- 19:27Speaker 1: and Quadriy Digs believes it, it doesn't matter. So if
- 19:29Speaker 1: they're playing with that confidence at swagger, I think another
- 19:32Speaker 1: notch in their belt was beating the Rams and clinting
- 19:34Speaker 1: that title. So they're playing at all time high and C. J.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Bethier this is He's not leaving this game about turning
- 19:40Speaker 1: the ball over. I promise you that. Nope, as my
- 19:42Speaker 1: son would say, cookies, we needed those guggies. Get the
- 19:45Speaker 1: best the rock, all right. Next matchup, George Kittle versus
- 19:48Speaker 1: Seahawks front seven. George is a baller man forty one receptions,
- 19:52Speaker 1: five hundred sixty six yards, two touchdowns. He's twelfth in
- 19:55Speaker 1: the league when it comes to receivings in the tight
- 19:57Speaker 1: end room, and he's only played seven out of fIF
- 20:00Speaker 1: teen games. I saw this, dude. I watched the film.
- 20:02Speaker 1: I'm sure you watched the two four catches ninety two yards.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Dude is coming off a foot injury and still getting
- 20:07Speaker 1: that yiggoty yat yards after get I mean this, this
- 20:10Speaker 1: guy is the best all around tight end in the NFL.
- 20:13Speaker 1: I was talking to my boy the other day and uh,
- 20:16Speaker 1: I said, man, he's he's the best run after catch
- 20:18Speaker 1: tight end. He says. The kid from Oakland or excuse me,
- 20:21Speaker 1: las Vegas, pretty good waller. I believe his name is
- 20:24Speaker 1: he's good, but he's still got some some stuff to prove.
- 20:26Speaker 1: I gotta go with George Kittle. I wonder how aggressive
- 20:30Speaker 1: Adams is gonna be with George. I feel like if
- 20:33Speaker 1: Adams is blitzing off of that edge or he has
- 20:35Speaker 1: to contained he's got, he's gotta make George Kittle fill him.
- 20:38Speaker 1: He's gotta put his shoulder into him and slow him
- 20:41Speaker 1: down a bit, because if you don't, he's great at
- 20:43Speaker 1: crossing that field nice and clean, getting the rock to him,
- 20:46Speaker 1: turning it up field, and getting about ten or fifteen
- 20:48Speaker 1: yards after he catches the rock. No, Kittle's a special dude, man.
- 20:51Speaker 1: I think Travis Kelcey's the best receiving tight end in
- 20:53Speaker 1: the NFL. But when we're talking about all around. In
- 20:56Speaker 1: the run game. In the past game I was watching
- 20:58Speaker 1: him play. It was just a simple boot action from
- 21:00Speaker 1: the forty nine ers and Kittles on the offenses left,
- 21:03Speaker 1: and because he's such a physical run blocker, he takes
- 21:07Speaker 1: a reach step one, two pop up linebackers come up,
- 21:09Speaker 1: Boom gets behind him in the Boom catches the ball,
- 21:12Speaker 1: shakes a corner, and he gets north south. That's the
- 21:14Speaker 1: thing for a big dude, he's got wiggled. And then
- 21:17Speaker 1: the other thing too is you better bring your lunch
- 21:18Speaker 1: bail man if you if you come trying to set
- 21:20Speaker 1: that edge and you're not coming with it, he'll put
- 21:21Speaker 1: you on and put you on your back. So George
- 21:23Speaker 1: Kittles a special, special dude. I think I think he's
- 21:27Speaker 1: almost like a safety blanket two for Bethard because that's
- 21:29Speaker 1: like the only guy who can throw too. So it'll
- 21:31Speaker 1: be interesting how we defend him. I think Jamala's guys
- 21:33Speaker 1: work cut out for him, but we're gonna be so
- 21:34Speaker 1: focused on him. I think you take him away, it's
- 21:36Speaker 1: gonna be tough for that Niners offense. It should be tough.
- 21:39Speaker 1: Another guy's the Hawks have to take away. Jeff Wilson.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Jeff Wilson versus Seahawks front seven. Excuse me, forty nine
- 21:46Speaker 1: ers leading rusher. He has five hundred and twenty four yards,
- 21:49Speaker 1: six touchdowns, ten receptions for one hundred and twenty one
- 21:52Speaker 1: yards and two touchdowns. The guy rushed for one hundred
- 21:55Speaker 1: eighty three yards against the Arizona Cardinals and what the
- 21:59Speaker 1: forty nine do a great job off You get different
- 22:01Speaker 1: looks in a run game, you're gonna see power, you'll
- 22:03Speaker 1: see trap, you'll see his own, you'll see counter. You
- 22:05Speaker 1: gotta prepare for any type of run that's ever been
- 22:09Speaker 1: invented in the game of football. When you play against
- 22:11Speaker 1: the forty nine and it seems like whoever they put
- 22:13Speaker 1: in the backfield is going to have some success. Jeff
- 22:16Speaker 1: Wilson has some bursts too, I believe against the Hawks
- 22:19Speaker 1: the first game he had. The biggest play for the
- 22:22Speaker 1: forty nine is running up that sideline Jeff Wilson. Man
- 22:25Speaker 1: gotta look after this dude. Well, and the thing too
- 22:28Speaker 1: about him, I'm gonna pare Jeff Wilson. The other guy
- 22:30Speaker 1: that's really important to what Jeff Wilson's gonna do is
- 22:32Speaker 1: Kyle Uschak. He's theer do everything player outside of George
- 22:36Speaker 1: Kittle because he can line up at fullback, whole line
- 22:38Speaker 1: up at tight end. He's great as being that lead
- 22:40Speaker 1: blocker and he's also great as a pass catcher. And
- 22:43Speaker 1: I think with him leading the way, that's what they
- 22:45Speaker 1: want to do. You mentioned the traps, the counters, the powers.
- 22:48Speaker 1: It starts with us check and Wilson is an explosive
- 22:51Speaker 1: dude and the Seahawks, so that's what they that's what
- 22:54Speaker 1: they've done well all year. They've done well all years.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Stop the run. The first time we shut them down,
- 22:59Speaker 1: fifty two yards and twenty two carries, most of it
- 23:02Speaker 1: coming off of one play, one little breakdown leet. Seattle's
- 23:06Speaker 1: has a fifth best rush defense in the NFL ninety
- 23:09Speaker 1: six yards. The forty nine Ers are the sixth beth
- 23:12Speaker 1: but there's a huge drop off between. So the Seahawks
- 23:14Speaker 1: will out ninety six yards on the ground the nine
- 23:17Speaker 1: Ers at one oh five. So the Seahawks, that's what
- 23:20Speaker 1: they do. The Niners are gonna try to run from
- 23:23Speaker 1: the rock, and I think fixed me tough for them
- 23:25Speaker 1: to do that. I think their only chance to win
- 23:27Speaker 1: this game is if George Kittle gets lose and if
- 23:29Speaker 1: Jeff Wilson finds early success in the run game. Lock
- 23:33Speaker 1: them down. Now another matchup. I really want to see
- 23:37Speaker 1: this matchup blow up. I want to see Russell do
- 23:39Speaker 1: what Russell has done for the majority of this season.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Russell Wilson versus the forty nine Ers defense. My guy
- 23:45Speaker 1: has four thirty one yards, thirty eight touchdowns, thirteen interception,
- 23:48Speaker 1: also four hundred and eighty four yards on the ground,
- 23:51Speaker 1: two touchdowns. He needs two touchdowns to pass Damn Renel
- 23:55Speaker 1: for the second place for the most passing touchdowns in
- 23:57Speaker 1: the players first ninth season in NFL. Hittory. Okay, so
- 24:00Speaker 1: we got we got DK who's going for largest record.
- 24:03Speaker 1: We got Lockett who's going forth that while, and now
- 24:05Speaker 1: we have Russell Wilson going for Damn Rino. That's why
- 24:08Speaker 1: these dudes gotta play. I know they're not thinking about it,
- 24:10Speaker 1: but I'm gonna think about it for you guys. I'm
- 24:12Speaker 1: gonna I'm gonna speak it to life. I'm gonna put
- 24:14Speaker 1: it down the atmosphere. You guys, get it done. He
- 24:17Speaker 1: also needs one hundred eighty nine yards to said a
- 24:19Speaker 1: single season career high and break his franchise records record
- 24:24Speaker 1: with four thousand, two hundred and twenty yards. I mean,
- 24:26Speaker 1: there's still there's still some things to do. Now, there's
- 24:28Speaker 1: still some meat left on the play. Oh, there's a
- 24:31Speaker 1: lot to do. The thing I love about it too,
- 24:32Speaker 1: is the coach that they play for. It is always
- 24:35Speaker 1: going to compete. The Seahawks haven't had a ton of
- 24:38Speaker 1: games in the peak Caroll era that we're completely meaningless
- 24:41Speaker 1: in terms of whether you sit or start guys or playing,
- 24:44Speaker 1: getting ready for the playoffs, and there is still something
- 24:47Speaker 1: to play for. There's a potential for getting a two
- 24:48Speaker 1: seed and outside potential of the one seed. I think
- 24:51Speaker 1: what we'll see is everyone's gonna go out there and play.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Everyone's gonna compete, everyone's gonna go after it, and you're
- 24:57Speaker 1: gonna have some assistant coaches looking and watching what's going
- 25:00Speaker 1: on in Green Bay, what's going on in New Orleans.
- 25:03Speaker 1: And if those games were blowouts, maybe in the third
- 25:05Speaker 1: quarter you start to see a couple of guys come back,
- 25:07Speaker 1: But not after and not before we get get us
- 25:10Speaker 1: some records. Okay, yes, please, let's get some records, all right.
- 25:14Speaker 1: Despite the injuries, the forty nine is to have a
- 25:16Speaker 1: solid defense, like it's not gonna be a walk in
- 25:19Speaker 1: the park. That these guys still got to come out
- 25:21Speaker 1: and play their fifth in total defense, like we've mentioned earlier,
- 25:23Speaker 1: six against the run, fourth against the past, just allowing
- 25:27Speaker 1: two hundred and twelve yards per game. Now, there's another
- 25:30Speaker 1: guy that you and I really liked on film. Tell
- 25:33Speaker 1: me about him, Fred Warner, number fifty four for the
- 25:37Speaker 1: San Francisco forty nine ers. Honestly, even though a fully
- 25:39Speaker 1: healthy team, Fred Morner might be their best ball round player.
- 25:42Speaker 1: He's got one hundred fifteen tackles, two interceptions, one force fumble,
- 25:45Speaker 1: two fumble recovery, six basses defended, four tackles for lost,
- 25:49Speaker 1: five QB hits. And we talked about this all the
- 25:51Speaker 1: time in the pre and post. Guys that jump off
- 25:54Speaker 1: the film. When you watch it, you're like, someone pops.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Number fifty four definitely does that. I was watching them
- 25:59Speaker 1: play what he can do in the run game Arizona
- 26:02Speaker 1: last week came out in an empty set, so there's
- 26:05Speaker 1: three receivers to the defense is right, two receiver defenses left,
- 26:08Speaker 1: and Warner popped out. He had number three and number
- 26:12Speaker 1: three runs a bend route essentially going to the other seam,
- 26:15Speaker 1: a vertical route essentially four verds. He runs across and
- 26:18Speaker 1: Warner turns, runs with him fifty yards down field and
- 26:20Speaker 1: gets a pass breakup. I mean, the dude is just special.
- 26:23Speaker 1: He can do it all. He's not the only good
- 26:25Speaker 1: number fifty four playing linebacker in this division. That is true.
- 26:28Speaker 1: And even the other fifty four we're talking about. B
- 26:30Speaker 1: Wags showed him some love and said, look, this guy
- 26:33Speaker 1: is the future, and fare Warner shows Bobby some love.
- 26:35Speaker 1: So you like the mutual respect. But it's time to compete.
- 26:38Speaker 1: It's time to get out of their path to victory.
- 26:43Speaker 1: At the forty five, waits for the snaff, Michael Vickson
- 26:46Speaker 1: puts it down. That kick is away. If that kick
- 26:49Speaker 1: is Gounod say Fi's gun. It's a path to victory
- 26:54Speaker 1: on Hawk Talk. Path to victory. Continue to dominate on defense.
- 26:59Speaker 1: Be the defense that we've seen since week eleven. There's
- 27:02Speaker 1: no better defense out there. Since the defense has identified themselves,
- 27:06Speaker 1: they figured out who they are. Everyone knows the roles.
- 27:09Speaker 1: You got a great rotation on the defensive line. You
- 27:11Speaker 1: got a corner in DJ Reid that's came out of
- 27:15Speaker 1: nowhere and been holding it down. Shack is healthy, Jamal
- 27:18Speaker 1: has two broken fingers, but it don't matter. He's gonna
- 27:20Speaker 1: do his thing. Diggs is making plays, Bobby's making tackles.
- 27:24Speaker 1: Jordan Brexon me. The list goes on and on. Jay
- 27:27Speaker 1: Reid has six and a half sacks. He's making his money. Defense,
- 27:30Speaker 1: do what you've been doing and dominate. Yep. And to dominate,
- 27:34Speaker 1: you gotta make CJ. Bethar look like a thirston quarterback. Okay,
- 27:36Speaker 1: he's not Jimmy G's not Nick Moons. He's a great
- 27:39Speaker 1: character guy. He does a lot of things. He has
- 27:40Speaker 1: a lot of respects in that locker room. But we
- 27:42Speaker 1: gotta make him look like a thirstin quarterback. He's had
- 27:44Speaker 1: to throw an interception in twenty twenty. I see that
- 27:46Speaker 1: changing against the Seahawks. Continue to bring pressure and crease
- 27:49Speaker 1: that sack total, and guys like Quandre Dicks go get
- 27:51Speaker 1: you another pick, go get you another one, and take
- 27:53Speaker 1: care of the football. On offense. I almost don't want
- 27:56Speaker 1: to say it, but I'm gonna say Chris Carson is
- 27:57Speaker 1: not fumble this year. What do you have like four
- 27:59Speaker 1: or six of them last everyone's tripping. Oh my god, No,
- 28:02Speaker 1: it was a flute. Chris is good, he's good to go. Russell,
- 28:05Speaker 1: take care of the football. No need to force things
- 28:06Speaker 1: down the film. I like the offense right now. I
- 28:09Speaker 1: think them taking the short stuff is gonna open up
- 28:11Speaker 1: the deep football. So keep taking care of the football.
- 28:14Speaker 1: Be responsible. Yeah, man, And they have an opportunity breaks
- 28:17Speaker 1: and records. Obviously, the number one thing is to win
- 28:19Speaker 1: the football game. But the receiving corps man DK metcalf
- 28:22Speaker 1: six yards short of Largens record Lockett needs seven receptions
- 28:25Speaker 1: to rake Bobby Ingram's reception record in the season, and
- 28:28Speaker 1: with thirty six yards, him and DK go over a
- 28:31Speaker 1: thousand yards. Those are some really special numbers, some records
- 28:34Speaker 1: that we expect to see those two all over the
- 28:36Speaker 1: Seahawk record book. But it'd be great to get that
- 28:38Speaker 1: done on Sunday own the NFC West, finish strong against
- 28:43Speaker 1: the rival. Do what you do. Hey, I'm getting excited.
- 28:47Speaker 1: I'm not looking ahead. I'm not looking ahead, but it's
- 28:49Speaker 1: on the horizon and I just want these guys to
- 28:51Speaker 1: come out, perform on Sunday and then get ready to
- 28:53Speaker 1: ball out as time to win another championship. Reminded, guys,
- 28:58Speaker 1: you can hear us everywhere Seahawks dot com, Apple podcast, Spotify,
- 29:02Speaker 1: Stitcher and much more. Also reminder of the Kyradium seventen
- 29:05Speaker 1: ESP and Seattle You're home for the Seattle Seahawks, and
- 29:07Speaker 1: don't miss the Pete Carroll Show on seven ESP and
- 29:10Speaker 1: Seattle at nine thirty when he joins Danny and Gallant
- 29:12Speaker 1: and Michael Bumpus the morning after every game. It's that
- 29:15Speaker 1: time of the year. Get it done. You're ready, nscus chancel,
- 29:18Speaker 1: Let's see if you can move up and seating. Let's
- 29:20Speaker 1: have a nice ride in the postseason and keep this
- 29:22Speaker 1: thing going to February. Let's go Hawks to going to Arizona.
- 29:26Speaker 1: But they're not playing the Cardinals. They are playing the
- 29:28Speaker 1: forty Niners. That's the Week seventeen Hot talg preview ion
- 29:31Speaker 1: Michael pumps along with Nasa Choby, Let's do it again
- 29:35Speaker 1: next week.
