- 0:04Let me in your ear. I got something you need to hear.
- 0:07Turn the volume up so it's loud and clear. A podcast where we talk about politics
- 0:12and culture. Unscripted, no limits.
- 0:14Like a 504 soldier. We're not pretenders. Ain't no agendas. Our only plan is
- 0:19to keep it 100 and do it for the fam. Yeah.
- 0:24What up, what up, what up? What's going on? I'm Six Mill, keeping it true. It's G.
- 0:30Welcome to episode 31 of For The Fam Podcast.
- 0:36Yes, sir. You know what, man? I decided to show a little bit of love locally.
- 0:41Good. He deserves it. I guess it's the Reggie Miller episode. Thank you.
- 0:46He deserves it. We can also do the Cornbread Maxwell episode,
- 0:49but we'll give it to Reggie today. Reggie Miller episode.
- 0:54I'm like, if he don't do Reggie Miller today, then. All right.
- 0:58Cool, cool, cool. I was laughing about it this morning.
- 1:00I was like, I'm going to mess with him and do cornbread match.
- 1:05Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's all good. So what's been up with you, bro?
- 1:09Nothing much, man. Just, you know, had a doctor's appointment last week.
- 1:14You know, got to keep up on the health as we talked about. Oh, for sure.
- 1:19But everything's good. A few minor changes I got to make.
- 1:22How was the time off? Whoo-wee, man.
- 1:26So, to the listeners, because he already know, my wife and I went to Hawaii
- 1:31for a few days, and, man, it was beautiful. Mm-hmm.
- 1:36Much needed, much deserved, but, yeah, it was beautiful, man.
- 1:42I have to say I enjoyed it a lot.
- 1:45It was great. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, it was great. I got no complaints about Hawaii. Well, no.
- 1:52That ain't true. It's a little expensive, but to be expected.
- 1:56Especially nowadays. It was already expensive before, but man.
- 1:59Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's really expensive now.
- 2:02I mean, like, we ordered a side order of fries at a restaurant.
- 2:08It's $10 for a plate of fries. Yeah.
- 2:13No extra anything on them. Just fries.
- 2:17Side order of fries. $10. Man, can a brother get some cheese? Can they get some?
- 2:21Right? Right. Like, man, for ten dollars, these fries ought to be loaded.
- 2:26But but it's Hawaii tourist destination.
- 2:30Expect everything to be overpriced. But besides that, great time.
- 2:37Beautiful. Relaxing. Yeah.
- 2:40The landscape, the scenery, just beautiful. The ocean, white sand beaches.
- 2:46So that ocean always. Yeah, man. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It was it was excellent.
- 2:51All right. So we'll be getting into today. Today, bro, what you want to talk about?
- 2:55So today we want to talk about the Supreme Court and the voting rights decision.
- 3:01Yep. And we would have talked about this last week, except I was in Hawaii. So.
- 3:06All right, bro. Let's let's let's get into it, because I'm sure we both have a lot to say about this.
- 3:11Yeah, for sure. So, for those who don't know, the Supreme Court struck down
- 3:16portions of the Voting Rights Act in the 6-3 decision back on April 29th.
- 3:22Basically, Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, which basically says the states can't...
- 3:29I don't want to say the word. The states can't screw you over.
- 3:33They can't just step out and be like, well, here's what we're going to do.
- 3:36We don't give a damn what you think. Right.
- 3:38So, the Section two of the Voting Rights Act stopped states from discriminating
- 3:43against people of color. Because let's be honest.
- 3:46Yes. During that time when the Civil Rights Act was signed with a vote.
- 3:50I'm sorry. Voting Rights Act was signed.
- 3:51One in the same, in my opinion. But yeah, it's it's what what it was for to
- 3:56protect us in these states. Yeah. State elections. Yeah.
- 4:00And and so to make it plain, Section two basically prohibited the states from
- 4:07racial gerrymandering.
- 4:10What the Supreme Court has done with this latest decision is basically said, and this is per Alito,
- 4:18you have to prove the intent was to racial gerrymander.
- 4:25And it's on the voter now. Correct.
- 4:29Correct. Who has hundreds of thousands of dollars to fight the damn state court?
- 4:33How can you prove intent?
- 4:35You can't. You can't prove intent. As I said in the last episode,
- 4:40this is a minority report.
- 4:41Yeah. You can't just say, oh, this is what you assume. Right, right, right.
- 4:45Anyone can easily say that's not what I was trying to do.
- 4:48And it's just too easy to circumvent anyone that claims intent unless you have
- 4:55an email or something that says, hey, I intended to racially gerrymander.
- 5:01You're never going to prove it.
- 5:02And this case, which is the Louisiana case, is similar to the one in South Carolina.
- 5:07Correct. It's it's the section five of the Voting Rights Act got gutted in that
- 5:11decision. It basically allows the state to use partisanship.
- 5:15Correct. As a shield. Correct.
- 5:17Do what we want now. Correct. Correct. Which is why, as a result of this decision.
- 5:24Louisiana immediately.
- 5:27Florida, too. And Florida immediately went to redraw the maps. It's crazy. It's crazy.
- 5:36We were just talking about in the previous episode about how the Supreme Court
- 5:40should not be involved in elections and how they screwed the Gore-Bush election.
- 5:46Here they are again, not so much screwing the election, the upcoming election,
- 5:53they're rigging the system.
- 5:55There's no way now for minority districts to get proper representation.
- 6:03And I don't think people understand behind the scenes in pretty much every election,
- 6:07every midterm, every presidential election, every local election,
- 6:10there are voting laws being passed in a lot of these Southern states that disenfranchise
- 6:14people of color and women on a consistent basis.
- 6:19Even when they win, they are still passing stricter voting laws. Correct.
- 6:25And I'm glad that you brought up the and women, because that's very important.
- 6:31And I think that gets overlooked a lot.
- 6:34Like we always say, affirmative action benefited women just as much as it benefited people of color.
- 6:42This also is going to harm women just as much as it's going to harm people of color.
- 6:52You don't think so now, but it's coming because these guys don't want women to vote.
- 7:00I'm going to say that again. These guys don't want women to vote.
- 7:07In fact, they don't want anyone to vote except for white men.
- 7:15So Louisiana, Indiana, New Hampshire recently passed those laws.
- 7:20We have to show something like a birth certificate or a passport.
- 7:22And I always hear people say in some of these YouTube rants and so on and so
- 7:27forth, who doesn't have direct access to X, Y and Z?
- 7:31I could sit across from you and tell you right now.
- 7:34I didn't need my social security card or birth certificate before I turned at 16.
- 7:38What am I asking my mama for it for? I didn't need it. I either lived with my
- 7:42parents or with my sister and my brother.
- 7:45What did I need it for? And then when it was time to get it,
- 7:49I understand why parents hold on to it for so long. And I'll use my kids as an example.
- 7:54As soon as I handed birth certificates to the twins, they were lost in four months.
- 7:58And who had to drive the crown point to get new ones? I did. Mm hmm.
- 8:03So this whole thing with it's bullshit that people don't know what their documents are.
- 8:09No, it's an everyday reality in a lot of households, especially if you're older. Yes.
- 8:14Yeah. The older you are, probably the more difficult it will be to recover something
- 8:18like that. And if you need it immediately, like I just said,
- 8:20the twins needed theirs immediately. I think it was for physical or they were
- 8:23applying for something where I had to take the day off work and drive to Crown Point. Right.
- 8:28I left India like seven in the morning, get the Crown Point.
- 8:31Had to be backed by three.
- 8:34So this whole nonsense about that doesn't happen.
- 8:37It absolutely happens. And in my opinion, doing this, especially in Indiana,
- 8:42it's nothing more than a modern day poll tax. It is a poll tax, bro.
- 8:47It's a poll tax and a lot of people are comparing it to Jim Crow.
- 8:51And I mean, look, like we've discussed previously, one of the easiest things
- 8:57as an American, One of the easiest things we should do is vote.
- 9:04I don't understand. I do understand, but it is just so...
- 9:11It's so plain to me why these guys keep trying to make it harder and harder
- 9:19and harder for people to vote because their policies are crap,
- 9:25if they have any at all.
- 9:27But low voter turnout usually benefits the Republican Party.
- 9:34And this is the game. This is why they keep making it harder and harder and
- 9:41harder for people to vote or if your vote does go through for it to actually matter.
- 9:49I mean, because let's just be real, the immediate effect will be your vote just won't matter.
- 9:57You can vote, but it just won't matter. The system is so rigged that a Republican
- 10:06is going to win regardless.
- 10:08Remember when we talked about the redistricting? I think we did a current event
- 10:12way back in episode one, two, or three.
- 10:14This is what we were talking about. Exactly.
- 10:17You take an area of Indianapolis, as I mentioned, I'm driving up Meridian,
- 10:24and in a four-mile span, I'm in six different districts? Right.
- 10:28What the hell is going on? Right.
- 10:30You've got a whole black community, all black community being split down the middle.
- 10:35Right. So half of those folks can go here that is traditionally leaning red
- 10:40and then the other half traditionally leaning red.
- 10:43Whereas before when it was one district, it leaned blue.
- 10:46Right. But then that's where you eliminate that seat.
- 10:49Yep. So this is absolutely where your vote starts not to matter,
- 10:54even in local elections.
- 10:55Which is why the Voting Rights Act was put into place.
- 10:59Correct. because it disenfranchised all of these communities.
- 11:05You know, it's like their reasoning, right?
- 11:11Whenever the Supreme Court makes these decisions, like affirmative action,
- 11:17how they always rail against affirmative action, how they make these decisions
- 11:21because they claim that race is no longer an issue in America.
- 11:27I want somebody to just run up and slap them every time they say that.
- 11:32To say that race is no longer an issue, which is their reasoning for saying
- 11:38we don't need affirmative action. We don't need these Voting Rights Acts,
- 11:42Section 2, Section 5, because race has been resolved.
- 11:47Mojo, please. Yeah, he actually said that. Yeah. The South is not like it was.
- 11:50Yeah. Yeah. Mojo, please.
- 11:53For anyone who thinks that we live in a post-racial society,
- 11:58I want you to think about this.
- 11:59You're a clown if you think that. Well, yes, you're a clown.
- 12:02But but but think about this also.
- 12:05Out of 47 presidents, one has been a non-white man.
- 12:14One out of 47. I'll take it a step further.
- 12:18And this is just me going off the top of my head. I ain't got no proof of this.
- 12:21Only about 15 of those are probably qualified.
- 12:25Well, you know, only And this is just recent, but I think it's like 13% The
- 12:31congressional representatives Are black, or people of color So Yeah,
- 12:38Imagine Chinatown with a 75-year-old congressman in Chinatown because the district,
- 12:45so I'm sorry, two old white men running Chinatown or a Latino community.
- 12:50What could you possibly? You have nothing in common with your constituents,
- 12:55which means you don't care. Why would you even want to be over a community?
- 13:00I mean, that's a whole different conversation. I was about to say,
- 13:02because of the paycheck and the influence that comes along with it,
- 13:06for sure. That power. For sure.
- 13:08So so so, yeah, just just the whole post racial utopia argument,
- 13:14in my opinion, opinion, disqualifies every Supreme Court judge who says that
- 13:20everyone because it's nonsense is absolute and 100 percent nonsense.
- 13:27And the reason why we needed these things, which wasn't that long ago.
- 13:331964 is not that long ago. Just to put that in perspective, most people listening
- 13:39by now would know who Ruby Bridges is.
- 13:41She has an Instagram page. I follow her.
- 13:45So no, it was not that long ago. Right, right. Yeah, the reason these acts were
- 13:50introduced is because of racial discrimination. Yeah.
- 13:56The reason why we have affirmative action, because you couldn't get a job if you were a black man.
- 14:03It's not reverse racism.
- 14:07It's so people of color got an opportunity to participate.
- 14:13That's all it is. But these guys, whenever you say anything about it, this is reverse racism.
- 14:19DEI is reverse racism Affirmative action is reverse racism These voting right
- 14:26acts are reverse racism In what universe?
- 14:30So what, the 15th Amendment was 1870? Mm-hmm,
- 14:34We needed another almost 100 years to pass another law that enforces one written
- 14:43in a different century. Correct.
- 14:46So in 1870, technically, my great-great-grandfather, who was a slave at the time. I'm sorry.
- 14:54Slave. He was still around, the previous slave owner.
- 14:59He could technically go vote. But who was going to allow him to? Right.
- 15:04Right. And it didn't matter if he was white passing. Right.
- 15:08Which some of the newspaper articles I've seen of him, he was white passing. Mm-hmm.
- 15:13They weren't letting that man vote. Right. Right.
- 15:19So have you seen the statement from Acting, Acting, Acting, because it's not your job, A.G.
- 15:28Todd Blunt, saying that they're going to have armed representatives at polling
- 15:32stations? Oh, yeah. Yeah.
- 15:34And you know what? We should show up. For sure. For sure. Straps in hand. For sure.
- 15:40For sure. Because this is the same thing you're talking about with your ancestors
- 15:44saying they wouldn't allow them to vote.
- 15:46This is the same thing. They're using the same tactics where they're trying
- 15:51to intimidate people from voting, which is your constitutional right.
- 15:57It's the exact same thing. So starting to understand now the make America great
- 16:03again, make America great again for white men.
- 16:08Nobody else. That's that's that's the goal. Put a stamp on that to no one else.
- 16:14Not their wives. Correct. Not their children. Correct.
- 16:18Them. Correct. Make America great again for white men.
- 16:24Title of this should be white men only.
- 16:29But you know what's crazy? Even after talking about the 15th Amendment 1870, it wasn't until Selma.
- 16:36That people said, oh, damn. It had to be broadcast for you to see.
- 16:43The violence had to be broadcast. The violence had to be broadcast for you to see.
- 16:48And even then, you didn't want to do it. Correct. Correct.
- 16:54That's it right there, bro. That we had to force their hands to give us the right to participate.
- 17:03I don't think people understand how much Martin Luther King was on the phone. Yeah. Hey, what's up?
- 17:10Yeah. Had to force them. Yeah.
- 17:12For something that's supposed to be our constitutional right as citizens.
- 17:17So here's why it's so important. The Voting Rights Act as a whole,
- 17:21there was a 30% difference in registering and voting and so on and so forth before that.
- 17:27Do you know it dropped down to 8% after the Voting Rights Act?
- 17:32Wow. It allowed so many people of color and minorities in general of all walks of life to participate.
- 17:40And you said it a few minutes ago, this was for us to participate.
- 17:45You know, people want to know why do you have an all-black college?
- 17:49First and foremost, there's two things. One, you know how many white people go to HBCUs? Correct.
- 17:56Correct. Like there was a white kicker at an HBCU just a few years ago.
- 18:01Correct. A white girl won homecoming queen. Yes.
- 18:05What was it? Shoot, I forget. In D.C.
- 18:08They're not. White folks are not
- 18:09prohibited. Correct. From applying and attending. Prohibited. That part.
- 18:14You are not. Black people were prohibited. Prohibited. That part.
- 18:18From attending college. Yes.
- 18:22Like, there are examples out there on the Internet of people being denied and
- 18:25they've uploaded their denial letters.
- 18:27And it basically said, yeah, we found out you were black. You can go to hell.
- 18:31You're not getting in here. Yeah.
- 18:33Any black institution like a HBCU is because we had to invent those.
- 18:44We just did an episode on the Negro Leagues not too long ago. Why?
- 18:49Because they had to. If they wanted to play baseball, they had to start a Negro league.
- 18:57And they had to start HBCUs in order to get higher education.
- 19:02And to show you how much power they had at the time, there was no law or anything
- 19:06that was stopping black folks from playing Major League Baseball.
- 19:09It was a handshake between two white men.
- 19:11Just didn't want you there. Oh, so we don't want them here anymore?
- 19:13All right, kick them out. That was in what, late 1800s? Yep.
- 19:16Yep. Just for white men only. For white men only. I'm just saying, bro.
- 19:23But it's a post-racial society.
- 19:28Make it make sense. So in 2025, last time I checked last year,
- 19:34Republicans were still in control of everything. Right.
- 19:37So in 2025, state legislatures across the country enacted at least 32 restrictive
- 19:44voting laws that tied the all time record from 2011.
- 19:49And they won everything and were still passing laws to get prepared for 2026 midterm.
- 19:57You know, what was crazy to me is when DeSantis, after he won,
- 20:01was going and trying to round up people for voting illegally.
- 20:04And a lot of them didn't even know that they had been removed from voter rolls.
- 20:09And it's like, really, bro? You won. Yeah, you won. And this is your initiative
- 20:13that you're going up to random citizens and saying, hey, you voted illegally
- 20:17because you got kicked off a roll, which you had no notification that you had
- 20:22been removed from a voter roll.
- 20:24Come on, man. Give me a break. Give me a break. But here is the thing.
- 20:30That Virginia case where they are, you know, Republicans are trying to sue Virginia.
- 20:35You might as well throw that out because you don't have a legal leg to stand on.
- 20:40Yeah, but, you know, the Supreme Court is getting it's getting appealed, though.
- 20:45Yeah. Oh, yeah, I know. But the fact that. Yeah.
- 20:49The will of the people got over overturned is being ignored.
- 20:54I don't think that people understand.
- 20:56So as much as we rail against Republicans and so-called patriots.
- 21:00One thing that older, the older white generation that are Republican,
- 21:05don't mess with their vote. Right.
- 21:08Don't mess with my vote. Right. They're going to side with the Democrats.
- 21:12Right. They're going to scream from the rooftops with Democrats like,
- 21:15wait a minute. Yeah. We voted on them. Unlike Texas.
- 21:19Oh, for the hell. Because California and Virginia actually asked the people,
- 21:25do you want us to redraw the maps? And the people said yes. Yeah.
- 21:32Democracy at its finest. Texas, Tennessee and Tennessee.
- 21:36Oh, my God, Tennessee. Go ahead. Succeed. Y'all can have your own country. Bye.
- 21:41Just go ahead. Matter of fact, we'll move your country. We'll move it.
- 21:45You can merge with Florida.
- 21:47We'll get Florida half of Georgia or whatever. Like, I know I sound silly,
- 21:50but y'all just go away. Chop it off.
- 21:53Just go away. Chop it off and let them float out into the ocean.
- 21:56Go on, float out into the coast. We'll take Memphis. yeah yeah we'll keep yeah
- 22:00yeah go ahead and just float out into the gulf and become your own little island
- 22:04country yeah yeah i'm cool with that also it's crazy but yeah yeah that that whole virginia case,
- 22:12I'm just like, how can you argue against it with this ruling?
- 22:17So something that we didn't talk about in the early 80s, when they made additional
- 22:22amendments to the Voting Rights Act, it helped the number of majority,
- 22:27like minority areas, boom, and get more representation.
- 22:32So even in the early 80s, when you and I, in 1982, we were seven.
- 22:37We were still fighting to give representation.
- 22:41And then in the 90s it was amended again and now here we are in 2026 and they're
- 22:49like hey all that stuff y'all did in the 60s 80s and 90s it don't mean anything it doesn't.
- 22:56It doesn't. It's been a low key agenda ever since it passed in 1965.
- 23:03Especially with Roberts.
- 23:05Yeah, for sure. Roberts since the 90s. For sure.
- 23:07For sure. For sure. Him and Alito, honestly.
- 23:10But yeah, yeah. They've always had it out for the Voting Rights Act under the
- 23:14guise of it's not needed because we live in a post racial society.
- 23:20It is such an elementary argument.
- 23:25And it's purely based on opinion because there's no evidence to support it.
- 23:30It's flawed opinion. It's flawed opinion. If you're supposed to be about the
- 23:36law, show me the evidence that this is a post racial society.
- 23:42Show me some data because you cannot. So you're making this decision based strictly on how you feel.
- 23:50Which tells me that you're a shitty person Not only that But it's also argument
- 23:56why we need to Freaking expand the Supreme Court And for those listening who
- 24:00are like No we don't need this Did y'all think did you think that we always
- 24:03had nine Supreme Court Justices no at one point there were only three,
- 24:07And presidents throughout history Have expanded I think Biden should have Expanded
- 24:11he should have I think Obama should have He should have stop playing,
- 24:15You're supposed to play The rules right right But if I'm playing a baseball
- 24:20game and the other team is using cork bats,
- 24:22hitting four home runs a game, guess what?
- 24:24That next game, we're hitting eight home runs. Yep. Cork bats for sure.
- 24:29Because the people in power aren't listening. Right.
- 24:32So why should I continue to play under these same rules that the other team
- 24:37is no longer playing? Correct.
- 24:39Correct. Like all of these blue states should have been redistricted overnight.
- 24:43Yep. And then when Republicans complain Then we come to the table and go hey remember that.
- 24:49Bill, we wrote two years ago about outlawing gerrymandering everywhere that
- 24:54you didn't want. Correct.
- 24:56Sign it. We'll go back to the original maps. Don't sign it.
- 25:01California is going to be blue from top to bottom. Simple as that.
- 25:04Illinois, top to bottom. Simple as that.
- 25:07Simple as that. And that right there lets you know how full of shit they really
- 25:12are because they had the chance to sign the legislation that would have ended all gerrymandering.
- 25:18But again, like I was just saying, they know that they will not win based on policy alone.
- 25:27So they have to gerrymander and redline and redistrict and all of that stuff just so they can win.
- 25:34They have to do voter suppression so you can have low voter turnout because
- 25:39that's the only way that they win, because the only thing they ever run on are culture war issues.
- 25:47Nothing that ever does anything to help your quality of life.
- 25:52It's always culture warrior bullshit.
- 25:56And for those that are listening to this and think that my brother's lying,
- 26:00by all means, do your own research and comment, say whatever it is you want to say. None of them.
- 26:08In our lifetime, we go back to Reagan. None. All Reagan did was run on anti-this, anti-that.
- 26:14Yep, yep, yep. Everything. Yep, culture wars.
- 26:18Basically, white people, let me tell y'all what you should be mad about.
- 26:22Now, vote for me because I'll fight so you don't have to be mad.
- 26:26In the meantime, I'm taking your money away.
- 26:29I'm taking away your job. I'm making the cost of everything more expensive.
- 26:34But damn it, that black person who lived next door to you, he's going to have
- 26:39to move in a few years because I'm taking away his job.
- 26:42Newsflash, he's taking away your job also. Both of you are going to have to move.
- 26:48That's the part that you don't understand. It's going to affect you the same
- 26:53as it affects your black neighbor. Yep.
- 26:58Wake up, people. Wake up, please.
- 27:02Anything else you want to talk about as far as this voting rights stuff?
- 27:04I mean, I know we can talk and talk and talk about this because it is terrible. Yeah.
- 27:09And I'll be honest, if I was a white man sitting here across from you, I'd be terrified.
- 27:14If I was sitting next to you as a white Republican, I'd be terrified.
- 27:19Because I don't think people understand. They don't just stop.
- 27:23That's it. Where does it stop? Right. It continues to go.
- 27:28When people taste that blood in the water, when they taste it,
- 27:32they're going to keep coming. And people run over that.
- 27:35Yes. They got their own mama. The consolidation of power, bro, more and more and more.
- 27:41And that's the only thing. Once they see that they can get a little piece,
- 27:45they want a larger piece and a larger piece. So, yeah.
- 27:49So eventually that part, eventually anyone who disagrees with them will be shut out of the system.
- 27:58That's what the plan is They
- 28:02throw out The culture war stuff They
- 28:06throw out the racial stuff To distract
- 28:09us From the real enemy The real enemy Are the elites that's making the rules
- 28:15We're all on the same team We just haven't realized it yet This is why I keep
- 28:21saying Wake up These things are important Voting is important.
- 28:27Next what is it no november the midterms we need a blue wave not because i'm
- 28:33in love with democrats no we don't worship people over here no no no i think some democrats are scum.
- 28:43But i do think that they would at least try and even things out they they they
- 28:48would make it so plain that the system is just rigged for white men only.
- 28:55One more thing for people who don't know what a poll tax is.
- 29:00Back in the day, they would put together tests that no one could answer the question.
- 29:05For example, here is a question off of a poll tax questionnaire.
- 29:11How many bubbles are in this bar of soap?
- 29:18I would have died that day. You had to kill me. What? What?
- 29:26How many bubbles are in this bar of soap? Yeah. What? Yeah. That's like when we were growing up.
- 29:33Occasionally, a teacher would have a jar of marbles on the desk. Right.
- 29:36Let's guess how many. Guess the marbles, right. Yeah, try to make a little fun.
- 29:39Yeah, yeah, yeah. Guess the jelly beans, all that silly mess.
- 29:42But for us, it was just something, you know, oh, yeah, yeah.
- 29:46There was no consequences if we got it wrong. The consequences for our ancestors
- 29:51getting that wrong was sent back home with the inability to exercise their God
- 29:58given rights with no education. Zero.
- 30:02So there is no way they could have known.
- 30:04Right. Right. Right. With no education. How am I even supposed to know these things? Yeah. Yeah.
- 30:11It's nuts. The system is so rigged. It has been.
- 30:17And they're just continuing the rigging of the system.
- 30:21This is all this is, is a rigging of the system. And it's right in front of our eyes.
- 30:28Well, what's the new saying? Quit playing in our faces. Yeah.
- 30:31But that's exactly what they're doing. They're just playing in our faces right now.
- 30:35And in Tennessee, literally laughing.
- 30:39Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But but I don't I don't want to put this all on Justin,
- 30:45but at least they got Justin.
- 30:48If he's going down, he's going down swinging. I tell you what, though, man, I fear.
- 30:54Don't. With the reactions of the people in Memphis. is,
- 31:00I hope nothing bad happened. Okay. I kind of felt like that's where you were
- 31:05going. I'm just like, oh, man, let's not even.
- 31:08Like those, when that guy told them when he was walking out of that room, shut up, boy.
- 31:13And them folks following him outside and was all in his face. He looked terrified.
- 31:17Even the cops looked terrified because it was so many people surrounding him. Like, what did you say?
- 31:23What did you say? Which boy will get you knocked out. You're in Memphis, bro. Yeah.
- 31:27I don't care how many districts you control. Yeah. You are still in Memphis.
- 31:32Yeah, boy, it'll get you knocked out.
- 31:34Yeah, yeah, yeah. All right, y'all, we're going to move into our current events,
- 31:41which is we're not going to have separate current events this episode.
- 31:44We're just going to sort of continue the same political discussion,
- 31:49and we're just going to talk about this ballroom funding.
- 31:53Oh, Lord, have mercy, Jesus.
- 31:56So at his genesis, when this idea was initially proposed,
- 32:04Trump is on tape video saying taxpayers won't have to pay a dime.
- 32:14Me and my cronies, I mean donors, are going to pay for the ballroom.
- 32:20Flunkies, more like it. And it's going to cost 300 million.
- 32:25Now they're talking about one billion with a B billion dollars for this ballroom
- 32:34that somehow magically became a national security threat.
- 32:39Yeah, I heard that. Which is like, what? So. So.
- 32:43If it was a national security threat, then why the hell did you demolish it
- 32:47without Congress's approval?
- 32:49If it was such a security threat, why did you open it up? That's a different topic, though.
- 32:55So now they want the taxpayers to put up the money to complete the ballroom.
- 33:05Talk about an idiot who created a problem and now is looking for a way to solve it.
- 33:14And let's be real. This is what he does. He's been doing this our entire lives.
- 33:18That's exactly what he does. You're you're right. That's his M.O.
- 33:21And for people that that, you know, I say this so much and I know it's like a broken record.
- 33:25But those people who knew of Trump before 2014, this is who he is.
- 33:31He breaks shit. He's been doing this my entire life.
- 33:35He has been a clown my entire life. Yep.
- 33:41Yep. He breaks shit and then looks for someone else to come in and help him
- 33:45fix it and then wants to take credit for it.
- 33:49Like, I'm sorry, man. If you can bankrupt a casino, you have no business owning anything. Correct.
- 33:56Directing anything. Correct. And again, as you said yesterday on the phone,
- 33:59it was funny until it wasn't. Correct. Correct.
- 34:04Correct. It's funny until it's not. You are absolutely correct.
- 34:08So so so. So, yeah, y'all.
- 34:10Just think about how the goalpost has been moved as it relates to this ballroom
- 34:17and honestly, as it relates to all of his policies, the goalpost always moves.
- 34:23But initially we weren't supposed to pay anything.
- 34:27Then it was supposed to be 300 million.
- 34:31Then it was 400 million. It was going to be done in what, six months,
- 34:36which is comical at best. Yeah, yeah. Now it's already a year later.
- 34:41Now they're talking about making the taxpayers pay for it and is not going to
- 34:47be done probably before his term is up, which is so.
- 34:51So, so, so again, it's like, why did you do any of this?
- 34:56You won't even be in office to enjoy it. And no, I don't care what he said the
- 35:01other day about eight, nine more years.
- 35:03He's not running for a third term. And the thing is this, too.
- 35:08Well, I'm just going to say it. I mean, you've been a piece of shit of a human
- 35:11being since before I was born.
- 35:13You're the president of the United States now. You hate being there.
- 35:17We go back to 2016 where people were like saying he was shocked he won. He didn't want to win.
- 35:23He was just trying to disrupt the whole flow of things.
- 35:27You're never going to come back because you're going to talk shit about the president.
- 35:31Nobody will ever invite you back. Right. So why would you build something that
- 35:35you're only going to get an opportunity to maybe see half complete? Right.
- 35:40And not to mention a billion dollars. Yes. But the fourth package is 70 billion dollars.
- 35:4770 billion. So you're telling me you want 69 billion dollars for ICE and so
- 35:52for immigration? Oh, because it's tied to that other bill.
- 35:55I got you. I got you. I see what you're saying. Yeah. Yeah.
- 35:59But again, that's their M.O.
- 36:02That's their M.O. is they try and sneak in some mundane bullshit legislation
- 36:07into a bigger, larger bill to hide it and then try and claim,
- 36:14oh, you don't want to support ICE.
- 36:15Oh you're you're you're you're weak on national national security because you
- 36:19don't want to support this bill no i don't want to support this bill one because i've read it.
- 36:27Because i know that the devil's in
- 36:29the details do people not understand that you can pull up
- 36:32that stuff on the white house's website or other websites copy it paste it yeah
- 36:37and tell any form of ai hey do me a favor break this down like i'm a five-year-old
- 36:43yeah and they will break this shit down where you don't have to read the because this is what they do.
- 36:50They make bills 20,000 pages because they don't want you to read it. Right.
- 36:54And then they use confusing language also because they don't want you to understand. But you're right.
- 37:00They're trying to hide this billion dollars,
- 37:05in that bill for ICE. Well, just putting all that money in there for the Secret
- 37:08Service. Like the Secret Service's yearly budget is $3.3 billion.
- 37:13You're trying to get a Secret Service like $30 or $40 billion?
- 37:16Like what the hell is going on?
- 37:17Right, right, right. And that's the right question. What the hell is going on?
- 37:23That's the right question. That's the question that every Democrat should be asking.
- 37:27What the hell is going on? And I know we're talking about the ballroom,
- 37:30but I want to just briefly, because this is about crazy spending too.
- 37:33Now we got the FBI driving around the BMWs man
- 37:38what I don't know how to do America first huh
- 37:41yeah yeah we go from Chevys yeah
- 37:45which have been around since hell you can go back and watch Clear and Present
- 37:49Danger all those movies you know they drove around in GMC trucks and Chevys
- 37:55yeah at least that's an American owned company yeah because you're showing love yeah to America Yeah.
- 38:02Where I live, all of those SUVs they drive, they're for us. Yeah, exactly.
- 38:09Exactly. But yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 38:12One is nuts because of the unnecessary spending. Yeah, that's the biggest thing.
- 38:16Yeah, but two is nuts because BMW is a German company.
- 38:21He loves Germany, don't he?
- 38:25He loves ballrooms and secret bunkers.
- 38:31Keep going keep going keep going keep going and false flag operations keep going,
- 38:39keep going keep going he loves Mein Kampf I'ma just say a flag keep going trying
- 38:45to take over countries yeah keep going keep going keep going JD Vance was right
- 38:51JD Vance hit the nail on the head the one time in his life that he actually
- 38:56told the truth he does love Germany me.
- 39:00You know something that irritates me, and I know the older I get.
- 39:03I'm telling you, the older I get, the more I understand my grandfather.
- 39:06Nothing irritates me more the older I get than seeing mediocre-ass people control things.
- 39:12And I'm not saying I want to be there. Correct. You couldn't pay me enough to
- 39:16be a politician. Correct.
- 39:17To see mediocre people who don't know a third of what I know controlling billions
- 39:25and trillions of dollars, making decisions.
- 39:28Like i've told you before whatever district
- 39:31marjorie taylor green came from i think she won it and the
- 39:35total vote count she got was like 6200 votes you
- 39:38making decisions for 392 million people right no right hell no right take your
- 39:45country ass back to wherever you came from in georgia and control that community
- 39:50but see we live in a post-racial society bro.
- 39:56And don't get me talking about miss gd herself when you're when you're when
- 40:00you're white you can be mediocre and excel but when you're not white you have
- 40:06to be excellent you have to be perfect,
- 40:12in order to get somewhere not even to that same place to maybe half of where
- 40:19they are right you get half of the success of some of these mediocre white people
- 40:25you talking about and you're perfect you're 10 times listen.
- 40:30There's no comparison between Obama and Trump.
- 40:33And I know people love to make those type of comparisons. Trump think he's on Obama's level.
- 40:40You're not even one third of the man Obama was.
- 40:46And this is not me idolizing Obama because he did some shit that was crazy.
- 40:51But when you think about that man's charisma, when you think about his level
- 40:57of intelligence, When you think about his moral compass, Obama was damn near that perfect Negro.
- 41:07Hell. And they still didn't want him to be there. Hell, they treat J.D.
- 41:12Vance like he dropped out of school in third grade. I'm like,
- 41:15even that man is more intelligent than any damn body in your cabinet.
- 41:20And yet he has to sit back. Right.
- 41:22Right. Go sit in the background. And watch this shit. Yeah.
- 41:26But, but that's his penance. Yeah. Yeah.
- 41:29That's right. That's what you get for signing the deal with the devil.
- 41:33You you yourself called Trump all types of shit just five, six years ago.
- 41:39And now you signed the deal with the devil. Right.
- 41:42That's his that's his ambition that got him in this position.
- 41:47So take it like a man. I don't want to hear no complaints from him.
- 41:52And anything else you want to touch on that? All right, y'all,
- 41:55we're going to slide right into our rant about a random topic.
- 42:01My favorite segment of the show. You got a rant, bro, or you want me to go?
- 42:06I got one. Go, go. Get it off.
- 42:09So today I want to talk about Don Colossus. Okay.
- 42:15You know what that is, brother? No. All right, Don Colossus.
- 42:18There's a new statue that has been unveiled in remembrance to the attempted
- 42:24assassination attempt on Trump in Pennsylvania.
- 42:28It was unveiled at his golf course, Doral, a few days ago by Pastor Mark Burns.
- 42:35You know, I know who that clown is. Coolness brother. Oh, yeah, I know that.
- 42:40It is 22 feet tall, including the pedestal.
- 42:43All right. You ready? It is gold.
- 42:50Now, you and I grew up in church. So this is like the Butler area?
- 42:55No, this is in Florida, Miami. Oh, okay, okay, okay. At the Doral.
- 42:59Okay, okay. Now, here's the significance of that.
- 43:02In a couple of weeks, the G20 Summit is where? In Miami, at Doral.
- 43:08So they get to come and see this gaudy, whatever, monstrosity that it is on his golf course.
- 43:17There's two things. Pastor Mark Burns, which, by the way, let me say this,
- 43:22just because you have a church, just because you have followers,
- 43:25just because you got pastor before your name does not make you a man of God. Thank you.
- 43:29So with that being said, he on the phone, speakerphone with it up to the mic
- 43:35and Trump, and he's just coning, smiling.
- 43:38And thank you, Mr. President, all that bullshit. this project was paid for by
- 43:45some guys launching the patriot meme coin.
- 43:48Another grift now it's been plagued by non-payment because the sculptor who's
- 43:55from ohio wouldn't release the statue because he said that those guys still
- 44:00owed him 75 anywhere between 75 to $125,000.
- 44:05Here's the crazy part. That Patriot meme coin actually dropped down to zero
- 44:11at one point, which is why they could not pay him.
- 44:16So you know what they did to get it to go back up? Here's what they did.
- 44:21President Trump wrote a letter to Mark Byrne saying that it looked good.
- 44:26Hey man, I saw the progress of the statue looks good. So what do they do?
- 44:31They take a picture, They post it all across social media to get more people
- 44:34to come along and buy more of the meme coin to boost it back up. Right.
- 44:41Here's my biggest issue. He immediately addressed this monstrosity when it was
- 44:48unveiled and said, I know how this looks.
- 44:53This isn't a golden calf thing That right there Let's you know,
- 44:59The fact that you felt you had to address it And tell people We are not idolizing
- 45:07this This isn't a worship This is more of an appreciation For his patriotism His courage under fire.
- 45:15I'm just going to say it, man. Fuck you. Seriously.
- 45:19I'm speechless, bro. I'm speechless. I'm just I'm just sitting here listening.
- 45:24I'm going to look this up when we finish. I'm speechless. The fact like I just I don't worship anyone.
- 45:32I love my mother and father. I do not worship my mother and father.
- 45:37I love them. I respect them and I appreciate them. I do not worship them.
- 45:44I don't want anybody to worship me. I don't want my kids to worship me. Respect me.
- 45:50Understand where I'm coming from. Love me. That's all I can ask.
- 45:54Because worship leads to stupid shit like this.
- 45:58The only thing I'll say is If you need that validation.
- 46:04If you constantly have to remind people of
- 46:07how great you are If you constantly need
- 46:10that reassurance It's because deep down inside you're insecure And you know
- 46:17that you're not a great person And for those who might want to give any pushback
- 46:23to the golden calf Please by all means open the good book that you have in your
- 46:27home and read Exodus. Yeah.
- 46:31Got one more small. Okay, go ahead, bro. It'll take about 30 seconds. No, no, no. Get it off.
- 46:35Have you seen the t-shirt that got pulled from the Indy car? No.
- 46:40Now, as far as the Indy 500? Yeah, well, yeah, just the, and the 250th anniversary
- 46:44for the event that's happening in D.C.
- 46:47No, I didn't even know that they merged for a t-shirt. So, I understood what,
- 46:52I understand what they were trying to do. I'm not calling nobody racist.
- 46:55So, I'm just going to say that. I know we live in Indianapolis and people get crazy about racing.
- 46:59They put out a t-shirt And at the top, it said one nation, one race.
- 47:08Idiots. Now, I know what they meant. Idiots.
- 47:16Now, you know what they meant. I know what they meant.
- 47:21But. Idiots. We all know that there was not a single person under 60 in that
- 47:27room and there were no black people.
- 47:29Right. now they pulled it immediately because I think they realized holy shit
- 47:34we done fucked up this what are we doing I mean again I know what you mean,
- 47:44But that term has been coined and used by white supremacists for centuries.
- 47:48I would buy one just for just just for the memento. I would buy one, bro.
- 47:55Man, when I saw that story, I was like, who was in the room when they did? Correct.
- 48:00Correct. Who signed off on this? It's similar to what I forget the clothing
- 48:04store that that came out with the the Kent State sweater some years ago with the bullet holes in it.
- 48:11Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 48:14What are y'all, out y'all mind?
- 48:16Yeah, or the, what is it, the Versace blackface sweater a few years ago.
- 48:21Or the kid in the, which I mean I laughed but it's not funny and I shouldn't
- 48:25be laughing with the kid, the black kid wearing the shirt with the monkey on
- 48:29it. I'm like, oh, come on.
- 48:32My bad, man. I'm taking in real time. No, no, no, no, no, no,
- 48:35no. Bro, we are, we are, we're golden on time, alright?
- 48:38So I'm gonna touch on something that is race related but not in that way.
- 48:44Are you familiar with this Blacks are Viltrumites?
- 48:49No. So you're not? No. Do you know what a Viltrumite is? No.
- 48:54So you don't watch Invincible? No. Okay.
- 48:57Quick little history. So Invincible is a superhero on Amazon. It's a cartoon.
- 49:05Oh, okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And, you know, his father was a Viltrumite. Okay.
- 49:11And basically they were conquerors.
- 49:14And the goal was to just go out and conquer as many planets as you can,
- 49:20take over, impregnate the women, blah, blah, blah.
- 49:23So recently, and it started in Japan.
- 49:27Now, I don't want to assign this to all Japanese people, but it started in Japan,
- 49:31where someone made a post talking about how terrified they are when they see
- 49:38black people, some Japanese person.
- 49:41Oh, and it goes on to talk about how black people are just naturally muscular
- 49:51and bigger and stronger.
- 49:54And if this person was to get into a fight with a black person,
- 49:58they would ultimately lose because black people are this, that.
- 50:02And just talk about the physical appearance of black people and how we're scary. Mm hmm.
- 50:08So here's what I want to write about.
- 50:12The subliminal racism of all of these type of arguments like this or stereotypes,
- 50:21even the ones that are supposed to be a positive, they're still racist stereotypes.
- 50:30And I want anyone who's not black to consider this the next time you say all black people can dance.
- 50:43That is a racist stereotype. It's also a damn lie. It's a lie.
- 50:48Whenever you say all black people can run fast, that is a racist stereotype.
- 50:57I'm proof positive that shit ain't true. When you say all black people can jump
- 51:01high, that is a racist stereotype.
- 51:06You may think that it's a compliment. It's not. It's not funny neither.
- 51:13If you say all black women have big asses, that's not a compliment.
- 51:20That is a racist stereotype. And here's one that probably people are going to
- 51:27say you should be happy about that.
- 51:29All black men have large penises.
- 51:34That is a racist stereotype. That is not a compliment. It's not the compliment
- 51:41that you think it is. And here's why.
- 51:45All of that reduces black people to what? Physical objects.
- 51:52We talked about how black women are over-sexualized. Oh yeah, all the time.
- 51:57The black women have big asses. It's just a sexualization of black women and
- 52:02you're negating their intelligence.
- 52:06All black men have big penises. You're reducing black men to sexual objects
- 52:13and you're negating the fact that black men can be good fathers,
- 52:19good husbands, good providers.
- 52:22No, just someone to have sex with.
- 52:25Stop with the racist stereotypes even when you think that it's a compliment. It's not.
- 52:33Okay. Whenever you generalize someone, regardless of their race,
- 52:37whenever you generalize them, you're being racist.
- 52:42Please keep that in mind going forward.
- 52:45That's more rock, bro. Anything you want to add to that? Uh-uh.
- 52:48Yeah. Got it. All right, cool.
- 52:51We're going to transition into our five on the blackhand side movie review,
- 52:56and we got a good one this week, y'all.
- 52:59Great movie. We chose Boomerang, starring Eddie Murphy, Martin Lawrence,
- 53:06Robin Givens, Holly Berry, and the list goes on and on and on.
- 53:11My brother, take it away.
- 53:13All right, so I'm just going to pick up right where you left off.
- 53:15So, as my brother was saying, Eddie Murphy, Halle Berry, got Robin Givens,
- 53:20Martin Lawrence, David Alan Greer.
- 53:23Grace Jones is us. Grace Jones. Stranger. Stranger. Strange. Right.
- 53:29Earth the Kid, John Witherspoon, and Chris Rock as Boney T. Boney T.
- 53:36First the fat boys break up and now this. Now this.
- 53:42So, the movie, I'm going to give a brief synopsis. of what I found on the internet.
- 53:47So Boomerang is a classic hunter becomes the hunted. I like it.
- 53:53Centered on Marcus Graham, who's Eddie Murphy. The hunter.
- 53:56Right. A high-powered, chauvinistic advertising executive who treats women like
- 54:01disposable commodities.
- 54:02He has a laundry list of shallow requirements for the perfect woman,
- 54:06including this is funny, including a notorious obsession with beautiful feet.
- 54:15We'll get to why it's funny later y'all.
- 54:20So basically in a nutshell the setup is
- 54:23this marcus is at the top of his game when his company is
- 54:26acquired by a cosmetic mogul which is lady eloise
- 54:29which is earth the kit yes he sleeps with her yes assuming let me let me say
- 54:34that again he sleeps with earth the kit who is probably what 75 80 yes yeah
- 54:40assuming it will secure him a promotion only to realize she's just a figurehead
- 54:45The figurehead. With no real power.
- 54:47Instead, the company brings in a new head of marketing, which is Jacqueline,
- 54:52which is Robin Gibb. Mm-hmm.
- 54:54So, the reversal, the karma. Yes. Jacqueline is effectively the female version
- 54:59of Marcus, cold, career-driven, emotionally detached. Yep.
- 55:04Marcus falls hard for her, but for the first time in his life,
- 55:07he's on the receiving end of a hidden and quitted lifestyle.
- 55:10Yep. Jacqueline treats him as a sexual plaything, ignores his cause,
- 55:14remains completely non-committed.
- 55:16This boomerang effect sends Marcus into a professional and personal tailspin.
- 55:23So the turning point.
- 55:25While pining for Jacqueline, Marcus spends time with Angela, who's Halle Berry. Yes.
- 55:29A more grounded and artistic colleague who is actually the girlfriend,
- 55:33I use quote to air quotes, girlfriend of his best friend, Gerard,
- 55:38David Allen Greer. Not necessarily, though.
- 55:42They were just friends. They went out on, what, one or two dates?
- 55:45But I wouldn't classify her as his girlfriend. No, no, not at all.
- 55:49Yeah, yeah. As Marcus begins to recover from his heartbreak,
- 55:52he realized that Angela offers the genuine connection he's actually been missing.
- 55:56So the resolution. The drama peaks when Marcus, caught between his old desire
- 56:02for the unattainable, Jacqueline, and his growing love for the real,
- 56:06which is Angela, eventually sleeps with Jacqueline again.
- 56:09This betrayal leads to a breakup with Angela and a riff with his friends.
- 56:13The movie concludes with Marcus finally choosing dignity and behavior over his
- 56:17old habits. rejecting Jacqueline's game and successfully wanting Angela back
- 56:22by proving he has finally evolved into a man capable of commitment.
- 56:28So I think something gets missed in Boomerang especially for this to be in 1992.
- 56:39This is one of the first movies where you have a predominantly black cast.
- 56:44There's a few white people sprinkled in.
- 56:47Predominantly black cast. No one's a gang member.
- 56:52No one's a drug dealer. No one's doing anything ratchet.
- 56:57These are all well-educated, successful black people in the business world.
- 57:06I think that gets missed a lot. Is we got to see ourselves as successful black
- 57:13people in America. Before Wakanda.
- 57:16I think that part gets missed by a lot of people as it relates to Boomerang.
- 57:22This movie also gave us so much like John Witherspoon.
- 57:27Coordinate with the mushrooms inside the suit jacket and the belt and the shoes.
- 57:34Got to coordinate. That fool said, we'll just pull another piece off and make some earrings out.
- 57:41Hey, what? Hey, Marty. Hey, Marty. I heard.
- 57:47Boy, you got to whip that. Babe, babe, babe, babe.
- 57:52But here's the funny part.
- 57:55The quick turnaround at that table, it went from, we're just friends.
- 58:02Yeah. Okay, I'll let it go.
- 58:04Yeah. Fuck it. Yeah. I'm about to change this whole, I'm about to switch this whole thing around.
- 58:11Yeah. Yeah, man. And then when they went in the bathroom. Yeah.
- 58:16Yeah. Also, this movie was about friendship, though.
- 58:20Oh, for sure. This was about three black men who were close friends and how
- 58:27one selfish act fractured their friendship.
- 58:32Because when he did what he did, it broke all of them apart and nothing was right after that.
- 58:40So that was also the resolution. It wasn't just the resolution that he had to
- 58:44have with Holly Berry, but it was also the resolution that he had to have with
- 58:48his friends and men. that relationship as well. Did...
- 58:54People think of, you know, Harlem Nights and just like, oh, yeah, that's a classic.
- 58:58But man, honestly, I think this might be one of the better Eddie Murphy movies,
- 59:02man. Well, it was also his.
- 59:06None of his comedy seemed forced in this movie.
- 59:10And I'm not saying this scene, but I don't want to insult the man.
- 59:13Obviously, we like Eddie Murphy.
- 59:14But it was just he wasn't the funny man in this. No.
- 59:20He just kind of sat back and let air like like. Well, we always forget,
- 59:24like Martin, the pool table.
- 59:27Man, Martin at the pool table, bro, was man.
- 59:31He went to another level, man. Chris Rock actually stole every scene he was in as the male boy.
- 59:38But yeah, Chris Rock was hilarious. This was also one of the first movies where
- 59:42you saw a woman matching the bullshit of the main character. Yeah.
- 59:48Because she was. She was like emotionally detached. Yeah.
- 59:52And checked him on it a few times. Like, hey, listen.
- 59:55There's still a job, homie. We just having sex. Yeah. Yeah. And you got a job
- 1:00:00to do. And if you can't do this job, then your ass getting fired.
- 1:00:03And also, at that time, it was the most expensive movie with an all-black cast.
- 1:00:07$40 to $42 million was the budget, and it made $131 million.
- 1:00:11Now, for those that are used to seeing every movie make $100 million nowadays. It's 1992.
- 1:00:17If you adjust that, which I didn't do.
- 1:00:20I should have done the math on it. But $131 million, if I had to guess,
- 1:00:23that's probably like three, 400 million out of days. Yep.
- 1:00:27That's the comma. Yep. Ingested for inflation without a doubt. Without a doubt.
- 1:00:32And it, again, it broke the trope that you can't have a Black successful movie. Uh-huh.
- 1:00:42It all, again, we got 1992, Boomerang.
- 1:00:48All the way to Wakanda forever. Not Wakanda forever, but Black Panther.
- 1:00:52And you still had that spattering out there that you can't have an all-black
- 1:00:59movie because it's not going to do numbers at the box office.
- 1:01:02Yet we had the evidence right here at Boomerang in front of us.
- 1:01:07Right. So it's it's it's not about having an all-black cast or a black centric story.
- 1:01:16The problem is we're tired of seeing the same black story.
- 1:01:24That's the problem.
- 1:01:27We're tired of being the stereotypical typecast, drug dealer,
- 1:01:32gang member, blah, blah, blah. We're tired of that.
- 1:01:36But if you give us just a good story, we'll support it.
- 1:01:41And even with, I'll give you an example.
- 1:01:44Now, you and I don't really care for a lot. The overwhelming majority of Tyler Perry movies.
- 1:01:49There's a couple of them that, you know, Diary of a Mad Black Woman and Why
- 1:01:53Did I Get Married, the first one. Right.
- 1:01:55Which I think are just great movies. They are good, yes. And The Family That
- 1:01:58Praise is a good movie. The Family That Praise is pretty good, yeah.
- 1:02:01It's one of the reasons why he gets so much flack because he just keeps writing
- 1:02:04the same things over and over and over again.
- 1:02:08You know what I mean? Yes. But the reason Tyler Perry got so much support, obviously,
- 1:02:12being friends with Oprah helped, especially at the
- 1:02:15height of where she was for sure but tyler perry
- 1:02:18brought in something different a consistent not
- 1:02:21different consistently betraying black folks as successful right and that's
- 1:02:27why black people migrated right and then giving us comic relief right with medea
- 1:02:32right and for those that just you know kind of got on with with tyler perry
- 1:02:36movies they missed the plays because we used about it.
- 1:02:39Correct. The play is on bootleg. Correct. And they were fun. Correct.
- 1:02:42They truly were. So yeah, if you make movies that don't portray black folks
- 1:02:48as a typical drug dealer, hoodlum, and this and that, people will support you. Correct.
- 1:02:54And I think this movie is definitely at that time making $131 million worldwide at the box office.
- 1:03:02And in that time, it was unheard of for a black cast.
- 1:03:05Right. And it should have made more, to be And this doesn't give me VHS and
- 1:03:11DVD sales and stuff like that, but...
- 1:03:16Oh, excuse me. Grace Jones' character. Yes.
- 1:03:20Sean J. Do you know the overwhelming majority of everything she did on camera was not in the script?
- 1:03:26If you go back and watch it, pay attention to Halle Berry.
- 1:03:30Like, she's almost, like, in tears. Laughing at her? Yes.
- 1:03:35Like, you can tell she can't hold it together. Like, with the whole hair and the face.
- 1:03:40All of those reactions. Like, she decided on the scene to flip her hair in his face.
- 1:03:46He legitimately had a piece of her wig in his teeth so when he was picking it
- 1:03:51out Halle Berry was in the background like with her head down all of that was like just,
- 1:03:58unscripted we didn't mention the legendary Milvyn Van Peebles was in this movie.
- 1:04:03Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He was he was he was he was the editor.
- 1:04:07Yeah. And then talk about a brother with a complicated past. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:04:13I mean, just just just shout out to Eddie for getting Grace Jones.
- 1:04:18Oh, at that time to be in this movie. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:04:21To get Melvin Van Peebles and put him in this movie to get Eartha Kitt and put
- 1:04:26her in this movie. You know, I'm saying even the guy who was the chemist that
- 1:04:32was that was that was making the perfume.
- 1:04:33Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. He's he's the guy from the seven up commercials back in the day. Yeah.
- 1:04:37Yeah. So so so shout out to Eddie for getting those ancestors.
- 1:04:42Well, I want to call them ancestors because, well, I think most of them are
- 1:04:46dead now. But back then, of course, they were they weren't ancestors.
- 1:04:49But but but forgetting those elders, I guess that's the word I was looking for
- 1:04:52to get those elders and sort of put them back into the spotlight.
- 1:04:57And pay homage i thought that was pretty cool which
- 1:05:00is the same thing he did in harlem knights to
- 1:05:03to to to give proper respect to those who came before you or before us i guess
- 1:05:10i should say so so that was that was that was cool uh i said getting john with
- 1:05:14the spoon and uh myra who's always the same in everything she plays and it's
- 1:05:20always funny and it's always funny.
- 1:05:25Tisha Campbell oh yeah the next door neighbor yeah yeah yeah let's talk about the feet bro cause.
- 1:05:37My brother is Marcus Graham I'm just gonna say it my brother is Marcus Graham
- 1:05:41so something I found out well let me just say this at the time of this movie
- 1:05:47Layla Rashawn was the most beautiful woman on the planet for me like she just
- 1:05:52was I felt like Richie and Harlem Nights,
- 1:05:55Sunshine I love that woman,
- 1:06:00Now, me being so young when this movie came out, you don't know no better. I'm like, we were 16.
- 1:06:06Yeah. I mean, we were still pretty young. Yeah. But I'm just like,
- 1:06:10why do her feet look like that?
- 1:06:16I didn't realize until this movie how much that mattered to me.
- 1:06:21Now, I'm not, you know, and I'm not knocking anybody's fetish.
- 1:06:24I'm not a foot fanatic or none of that. But there are some things I can't say
- 1:06:30on here that somebody... You can say it without saying the name.
- 1:06:34Right. But they would know who I'm talking about. Oh, okay. I got you.
- 1:06:38But something I found out about that whole scene, they spent hours like doctoring
- 1:06:44her feet with prosthetics and all of that stuff.
- 1:06:48Obviously, that wasn't, you know, you figure it out as you get older.
- 1:06:51Obviously, that's not her feet. But at that time, I'm like, you know what?
- 1:06:56That matters to me, too. But at 16, we ain't thinking about nobody's damn feet. I definitely...
- 1:07:04No, no, no. Just no. Yeah.
- 1:07:08But, yeah, that's what we were laughing about in the beginning. Like that, yeah.
- 1:07:13I've come across some people's feet that look exactly like that in real life.
- 1:07:17Yeah, what they call it, hammer time? Yeah, I just leave it at that.
- 1:07:25When you told me about it i was like what and you were like man i just i was
- 1:07:31like what and you were like man i just couldn't and i was like what i said oh
- 1:07:37man you are marcus from boomerang.
- 1:07:44That was a rough day. Oh, man. That was funny, bro.
- 1:07:49It still tickles me to this day. I can still hear you explaining it. It just tickles me.
- 1:07:55All right, y'all. So I think there is no suspense here. We're going to rate
- 1:08:01Boomerang pretty freaking high.
- 1:08:03I'm giving it a five. Same here.
- 1:08:06High five on the black hand side for Boomerang. Watching it recently.
- 1:08:10It's still like I laugh. It works. I enjoy it. Yep, it works. The jokes do not get old.
- 1:08:16I didn't watch that movie again for this podcast.
- 1:08:19I did, but I didn't. It's like when I watched it, I'm watching it.
- 1:08:23Yeah, it's just a good movie. Phone sitting down.
- 1:08:26I think I may have touched my phone maybe once. Yeah. Just a good movie.
- 1:08:29No, it is definitely high up on the rewatch scale.
- 1:08:34Some movies you can't. You know, you watch them one time and then the jokes get old.
- 1:08:38Not this. Or just some movies you just.
- 1:08:41Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. But nah, I'm good. Yeah, I kind of feel that way about thin lines.
- 1:08:48I don't know, man. Bobby Brown was funny as hell. He was. He was. But I don't know, man.
- 1:08:52I think I tried to watch it recently and I was just like... She brought me down to my break pads.
- 1:08:58It got its moments. Where's the justice? It got its moments.
- 1:09:02It got its moments. All right, y'all.
- 1:09:04It's time for our closing monologue.
- 1:09:09KG, the floor is yours. Appreciate it. All right.
- 1:09:12So, we laid out the history today so you knew exactly what the reality is right
- 1:09:18now with the voting rights.
- 1:09:20To use sports reference, because we do have basketball on in the background,
- 1:09:25Supreme Court took the referees completely off the field.
- 1:09:29They gave state legislations a green light to draw lines and silence a community,
- 1:09:34hiding behind the excuse of just playing politics.
- 1:09:39But here's the bottom line. This is about basic dignity.
- 1:09:43It's about the behavior we demand from a system that's supposed to work for us.
- 1:09:49And let's be clear, this is nothing new, as we mentioned earlier.
- 1:09:53This is exactly how this country ran before the Voting Rights Act.
- 1:09:57We already know what happened before these protections were in place.
- 1:10:00The strategy hasn't changed at all. They want us to be silent.
- 1:10:04They want us to sit around, accept it, and do nothing.
- 1:10:08But we know what it took to get those rights the first time,
- 1:10:11and we are not going backwards. Period.
- 1:10:17All right, y'all, that concludes episode 31 of For The Fam podcast.
- 1:10:24We hope you guys have enjoyed. We enjoyed bringing it to you.
