- 0:27Welcome to the Pop Culture Junkie podcast. I'm Olivia here with my fellow junkie. I'm Shauna.
- 0:34And it's so sad to only have one Junkie with us, but I'm worried too.
- 0:41We'll have one other junkie with us today. One Junkie with each of us.
- 0:48I am your junkie. You are my junkie. Don't ask questions on the math. It's girl math.
- 0:55Okay. Girl, man. Did you like my girl dinner Snapchat last night? With all my pills.
- 1:01Oh, yes. Yes. Yes. How could I forget?
- 1:04It's just Millennial Girl Dinner. You have your melatonin, your antidepressants, your birth control, your vitamins.
- 1:11We're staying stacked. We're staying stacked.
- 1:14Staying stacked. Before we get into this very special episode,
- 1:19I wanted to give a quick minute to hear what you've been obsessed with.
- 1:25I have a feeling of what it's going to be, but I'm very excited to discuss it.
- 1:29Do you? I don't know. We'll see. How old do I know you?
- 1:32The boys. Is that what you're going to say? I was going to say Bridgerton.
- 1:38Oh, my God. That is true. Okay. Well, let me start with the boys and then we'll go to Bridgerton.
- 1:42Okay. So the boys came back for season four.
- 1:45Do you watch the boys and I don't remember if we've ever talked about this. I watched season one and then I totally fell off.
- 1:52But I have been seeing the discourse on Aaron Morty-R-E.
- 1:57So I'm excited to discuss that. Yeah.
- 2:00You need to get back on. This show is just ridiculous.
- 2:03And I also like the spin-off Gin-V.
- 2:06It's going to be sad to see how they do with season two because Chase Perdomo, like one of the lead actors from Gin-V passed away.
- 2:12I know. I loved him. But the boys is just like this show is not for the faint of heart.
- 2:21Okay. So Aaron Morty-R-E. Yes. Absolutely had some work done.
- 2:25I mean, it's her face. She's gorgeous no matter what.
- 2:28And I just hate that the internet is, "I like the old Aaron's face."
- 2:33Good thing is not your fucking face then.
- 2:36Yeah.
- 2:38And there's two other things that people are shocked about this season. One, conservative saying, "Is this show making fun of us?"
- 2:46Yes.
- 2:47It's been making fun of you for years. That is the whole...
- 2:51Did the boys go woke? The boys has always been woke.
- 2:55It's always been...
- 2:56Oh, this is...
- 2:57Is this play about us?
- 2:58Is this fucking play about us? It's giving that energy.
- 3:01The other one, I guess this is a slight spoiler for anybody who hasn't watched season four yet.
- 3:06Franchise bisexual... shocking.
- 3:09Ground breaking.
- 3:10Ground breaking.
- 3:11Florals for spring.
- 3:13Ground breaking.
- 3:14A bisexual French man in Pride Month.
- 3:18Ground breaking.
- 3:20It's so controversial.
- 3:22And he kisses a man this season.
- 3:25I bet.
- 3:26I think people are...
- 3:27Are they both hot?
- 3:28Oh, they're both so fine.
- 3:29They're so hot.
- 3:30I want more of that in my cinema.
- 3:32I'm not mad at those.
- 3:35And I don't know. I think people are review bombing it for those three reasons.
- 3:38Conservatives are mad that they're being made fun of, even though it's very obvious.
- 3:42Home of folks are mad that Franchise kissed a man and that Erin Moriarty dared to work on her face.
- 3:48Does that...
- 3:49The show itself is hilarious this season and as graphic as ever.
- 3:54I saw a Comic-Con interview with Jack Quaid where he was like, "Honestly,
- 4:00there was a scene this season that was so disturbing that like,
- 4:07I've never broken before and I totally broke and was like, I need a minute.
- 4:12I can't come back for a little bit."
- 4:14And I'm like, "Okay, that kind of intrigues me, but on the Erin Moriarty thing,
- 4:21she just did a New York Times profile."
- 4:24Really, unfortunately, I saw that clip of Jack Quaid and then that was the only thing
- 4:29I saw about the season and then I did see people were like, tanking it, but it's so stupid.
- 4:36I think it's a great show. It's a great commentary on politics.
- 4:41There's things from it that are very on the nose.
- 4:44Direct quotes that Trump has said, "Honlander will essentially say the same thing."
- 4:49You guys are all very special. Stand down.
- 4:52But this is a show where penises have exploded.
- 4:57Little men crawling into dicks.
- 4:59Yeah, it's a girl biting your eyes head to death.
- 5:03It's lived in and it's just like only going to get more ridiculous.
- 5:08There's a scene in a sauna this season.
- 5:12And I don't clutch my pearls much and I won't spoil it because it just came out.
- 5:17But I literally look both in my hands over my mouth and was like, "Oh my."
- 5:24I love that.
- 5:25I can bench you to watch Bridgerton.
- 5:28I think that means I have to catch up on the boys.
- 5:31I agree. I agree.
- 5:32I have also been watching Bridgerton because I feel like I was the only woman in the world
- 5:38who wasn't watching this fucking show.
- 5:41I'm still in season one.
- 5:44Although I do know some spoilers from the next two seasons about who the main characters are.
- 5:49Just over-arching. I know who wins up with who kind of things.
- 5:52But I'm still interested to see how they get there.
- 5:56So right now I'm at the point in season one where Daphne and Simon got married
- 6:04and they just had their first wedding night together.
- 6:08And she finally learned what sex was.
- 6:11And she's just mind-blowing.
- 6:13They're like, "Babe's come from Mama."
- 6:16We don't speak about such thing with young ladies.
- 6:19And then I text, "They're like being forced to marry because they kissed in the garden."
- 6:25And I text to Olivia and I'm like, "Can you imagine being forced to marry any man that you ever caught making out with?"
- 6:32And my response was the first person I ever kissed is in a gay happy relationship.
- 6:39So no, no. I cannot.
- 6:41But I'm very happy for him.
- 6:43I know.
- 6:44Looking back, I always make the joke that I have such a weird attraction to gay men.
- 6:50It's a coin flip. If I'm attracted to you, you're probably more than likely gay.
- 6:55Even if a coin flip is 50/50.
- 6:57It will say like 51%.
- 6:5951/49. But yeah, so that would make sense.
- 7:03But what a lavender marriage. Be that that? I don't know.
- 7:06Speaking of House of the Dragon.
- 7:08And season one, Renaren, as like a nice lavender marriage, right?
- 7:11Yes. That guy. And they have their little agreement that he can go be with men.
- 7:16And they seem pretty chill.
- 7:18Yeah. And the grand perspective of everything we're going to talk about today, it's just...
- 7:23It's not that bad.
- 7:24No, it's not that bad.
- 7:25If I married the first guy I ever made out with, it would definitely be a promised ring guy.
- 7:30It would have been a promise.
- 7:31You'd have so many scrapbooks. It'd be beautiful.
- 7:35I would do many good scrapbooks.
- 7:37I know. I'm enjoying Bridgeton so far.
- 7:39I did also text you to Daphne. It's not even like each other and you said it's debatable.
- 7:44It really is. It really is.
- 7:46But no, I love it. Season two is better.
- 7:49I think it's Anthony, right?
- 7:51Yeah, it's Anthony Bridgeton.
- 7:53The Vi Count. Vi Count Bridgeton.
- 7:56I really like that one. But I think my favorite is Queen Charlotte,
- 8:00which is like not a part of the Bridgeton seasons,
- 8:04but it's like in the universe.
- 8:07It's about Queen Charlotte, obviously.
- 8:09But is her love interest in it?
- 8:11Is he the king who has the Alzheimer's?
- 8:14Yeah, so it's the story about when they're young and when they mean,
- 8:19and how she becomes queen and all that stuff.
- 8:21So it's very good.
- 8:23It's very good.
- 8:24I have to give that a whirls in time.
- 8:26The sex scenes have been...
- 8:27No, I said crazy as I thought they would be.
- 8:30For some reason, I thought they would just be going at it in every episode.
- 8:33But they're really not.
- 8:35No, it's... What about Regency Era?
- 8:37It makes you think it's going to be more intense than 50 Shits of Grey.
- 8:41I don't know. For some reason, the only thing I do about Bridgeton was that
- 8:45the main character guy in Season 1 is so hot, which is very true.
- 8:49He's so fine.
- 8:51And also that they do it a lot.
- 8:54And so far, and they did it once that I've seen so far.
- 8:57And then Anthony hooks up with the opera singer.
- 9:01So yeah, I would say that they don't do it a lot, but it's very horny.
- 9:06It's how I would describe it.
- 9:07That's true.
- 9:08There's a lot of sexual pining.
- 9:11Yeah.
- 9:12It's a horny show.
- 9:13It is horny.
- 9:14Yeah, it's horny.
- 9:15And I liked how they filmed their first time sleeping together as husband and wife.
- 9:22How nice.
- 9:23He was like, "Look and stop if you want me to stop."
- 9:26No, and just like, "This might hurt."
- 9:29It was all very sweet.
- 9:31I thought it was very sweet.
- 9:33But I'm ready for some poundings.
- 9:35Yeah.
- 9:36Just like the boy is, it gets more lived in.
- 9:39It knows what it is.
- 9:42So I think it only gets better.
- 9:44One other thing.
- 9:46I finished a touch of darkness of that book that I heard you.
- 9:49Yeah.
- 9:50Listening to...
- 9:52Okay.
- 9:53So it would live in Iwery, California, months ago.
- 9:56The trip that I broke my foot on.
- 9:59Have we told this story in the podcast yet of me listening to you listening to this book?
- 10:02No.
- 10:03It's very nada.
- 10:04Yes.
- 10:05Listening to you listening to this book that I now listened to.
- 10:08And now we're talking about it on a show that other people listen to.
- 10:10Oh my god.
- 10:11Oh.
- 10:12Listen to it.
- 10:13Okay.
- 10:14So, lives on the bottom bunk.
- 10:16And I am on the top bunk, which is never going to happen again.
- 10:20Her ultimate demise.
- 10:21My whole life, it's my right-martitari soul's ultimate demise.
- 10:25But I digress.
- 10:26Live says, "In order to sleep, I need to listen to an audio book."
- 10:30Is that okay?
- 10:31And I was like, "Yeah, that's fine, I don't care."
- 10:33And so she turns it on.
- 10:34And it's on the horniest part of a book that I've ever heard in my life about this woman touching
- 10:45her.
- 10:46It's a lady's in Persephone.
- 10:48And I wouldn't say it's like romance.
- 10:50It's like sex.
- 10:51It's a sex book.
- 10:52Yeah.
- 10:53It's a step above a romance book.
- 10:57They say, "I love you eventually," but the crux of their relationship is doing it.
- 11:03And yeah, it's the Greek mythology of Hades and Persephone.
- 11:08So they make it really sexy, you know?
- 11:10Dude.
- 11:11So Olivia is the part in the book that she's at.
- 11:13Persephone is touching herself and Hades is watching.
- 11:16And I'm just on the top bunk, like, "Live, can you tell me the name of this book?"
- 11:22"Believe."
- 11:23Are you asleep yet?
- 11:27If you hear shuffling up here, pay it in a while.
- 11:32Well, you read that one a lot faster than Akatar, so I know which ones to recommend to you now.
- 11:38Yeah, I mean, to be fair, this one, I tried to buy it on Amazon, used, and then the order
- 11:43was canceled.
- 11:44And I was like, "Do I really want to spend 11 bucks in this book?"
- 11:47If only there was a big building that you could go to and, like, rent books for free and
- 11:50then read them and then give them back.
- 11:52Wouldn't that be incredible?
- 11:53Yeah.
- 11:54Or if there was, like, an app where they could just, like, end up in audiobook form on my
- 11:59phone, that would be insane.
- 12:01That would be crazy.
- 12:02So, yeah.
- 12:03I just listened to the whole thing, which I don't really count as reading, but I don't
- 12:07know.
- 12:08That's not fair.
- 12:09Reese Witherspoon just made a statement saying that she disagrees with that.
- 12:13Did she?
- 12:14Yeah.
- 12:15Listening is real reading or active consuming a book, which is ultimately reading, you know.
- 12:23She wouldn't say it in that weird of terms, but she vowed against it.
- 12:27She vowed against it.
- 12:28She does have a giant book publishing company that she has emotive.
- 12:34She has some motives.
- 12:35If Elle Wood says that listening to a book counts as reading, then I have read a lot of books
- 12:41this year.
- 12:42Yeah.
- 12:43Yeah.
- 12:44Elle Wood.
- 12:45Okay.
- 12:46That's all I've been doing.
- 12:47What have you been listening to and watching and reading and all that jazz?
- 12:50So, I'm a little bit ahead of you in season three of Bridger Chin.
- 12:54I had the cutest little tea party with my friend.
- 12:58We watched it all.
- 12:59I saw that so cute.
- 13:00It was so good.
- 13:01I have my qualms about it, but I can't really talk about it because you don't really know
- 13:05where we are.
- 13:06Well, the character who's the main character that season is my favorite character in season
- 13:10one.
- 13:11So, I'm just like, can we get to season three?
- 13:13Yeah.
- 13:14I want to see if we can get her love.
- 13:16I think so.
- 13:18My ultimate spoiler free thoughts for Bridger Chin season three, part two, because I talked
- 13:23a little bit about it in part one is they changed the show runner and I don't love the choices
- 13:32that they made.
- 13:33I don't know if it's purely the show runner's fault.
- 13:36Interesting.
- 13:37But I think there was a very obvious difference.
- 13:40I also think it was very unfortunate that Netflix decided to break up the season.
- 13:47I think a lot of the criticism that came out from people was it was easier to paint on
- 13:54the first four episodes because it like really only got good at the fourth episode and
- 14:00then you install all this momentum.
- 14:02You just go because you want to get another like Netflix payment out of these people.
- 14:07Do I hate that?
- 14:09I started to cut you off.
- 14:11I just hate it when shows do that mid season hiatus and I know a ton of them do that even slowed
- 14:16me down and watching invincible, which is a really good show.
- 14:19And all the sudden it's gone for a couple months again and you're like, well, shit, I was just
- 14:23now getting into again after it had already begun.
- 14:28And now it's gone again and then you have stopped caring.
- 14:30And look, if you're like lost and you're giving me like a 25 episode season, go ahead,
- 14:37take a break.
- 14:38Exactly.
- 14:39I'm only getting eight episodes and you're giving me four at a time and a month apart.
- 14:44It wasn't even like two weeks apart.
- 14:46It was a month apart.
- 14:47So it just I think the way that they did it was pretty unfortunate.
- 14:54But yeah, no, I like some of the things they did.
- 14:56Again, the woke mob will be mad.
- 14:59Oh, no.
- 15:00The same people mad at the same people mad at the boys are going to also be mad at Bridgerton.
- 15:08Oh, there are gays.
- 15:10There are gays in Pride Month.
- 15:12Not the gays.
- 15:13They said, you know what?
- 15:15We can't release gay episodes.
- 15:18We got to wait till June.
- 15:19We got to wait till June to get the gays.
- 15:21We got to, we got a rainbow wash.
- 15:24We can't give it to them in May.
- 15:26I do have a guess for season one of Bridgerton and don't look, I won't look at you because
- 15:33I'll see it in your eyes if I'm right or not.
- 15:35But one of the Bridgerton boys, I forgot his name, Benedict.
- 15:39Oh my God, you're being that.
- 15:42I had the crazy eyes on you.
- 15:49I can't make my face that expressive right now.
- 15:51I just got fresh, fresh.
- 15:52Fresh.
- 15:53Fresh.
- 15:54Okay.
- 15:55I think that Benedict and that artist guy are going to oink the two men.
- 16:00I think they're going to go to ye old pound town Bridgerton speak.
- 16:11I will text you.
- 16:13I will text you.
- 16:14I end up being correct.
- 16:16Yes.
- 16:17The listeners will know, hopefully, because if we can be in shana and we haven't convinced
- 16:22you right in why you're still holding out.
- 16:26Exactly.
- 16:27If you hate love, just say it.
- 16:29Just say it.
- 16:30It's there's bonking.
- 16:33There's there's good people.
- 16:38There's hot people.
- 16:39Good job choices.
- 16:40Yeah, I like it so far.
- 16:42I like it.
- 16:43All around good things, all around good things.
- 16:45Well, the other thing that I have been absolutely obsessed with, which we are actually going
- 16:50to spend a long time talking about it coming up now because I have been so obsessed with
- 16:55it is house of the dragon.
- 16:58And so we're going to talk a little bit about the Game of Thrones universe as a whole.
- 17:07We will have spoilers for House of the Dragon episode one season two.
- 17:13We're going to save that for the end.
- 17:15So if you do want to hang around while we talk about Game of Thrones, how it ended the
- 17:19book, stuff like that, you can, and we'll let you know when to tune out.
- 17:24If you haven't seen episode one, we won't be talking about two or three yet, but we'll
- 17:29give you our thoughts on that week to week later on in our season of pop culture junky
- 17:35podcast.
- 17:36So we're going to take a quick break and then we'll come back.
- 17:44So as we mentioned, HBO's are a max.
- 17:48Should I say I refuse?
- 17:50I still call it HBO.
- 17:51Yeah, literally.
- 17:52Yes.
- 17:53I call it back.
- 17:54Come on.
- 17:55Max is a 10 year old boy in my mind.
- 17:57What are you talking about?
- 17:58It's not HBO.
- 17:59It's not HBO.
- 18:00He has one of those little hats with a little propeller on top.
- 18:03A yo-yo.
- 18:04I almost see him as you know, and Smash Bros. the boy character with a little baseball bat.
- 18:10Yeah.
- 18:11Anybody who plays video games, is it nice?
- 18:15Is like screaming right now.
- 18:17Yeah, I think it's nice, but I don't know pop off if we're wrong.
- 18:21Pop up in the comments.
- 18:23Yeah, but that's what I see when I hear Max.
- 18:25And so we're just going to roll with HBO.
- 18:28Like I mentioned, we're going to keep the house of the dragon and season two spoilers out
- 18:34of this.
- 18:35If you haven't seen season one, we're probably going to talk a little bit about that.
- 18:38So might not be the episode for you throughout.
- 18:41But I want to talk a little bit about what was your ultimate journey with Game of Thrones.
- 18:47When did you start watching it?
- 18:49Were you a big fan?
- 18:50I was a huge fan.
- 18:52Okay, let's see here.
- 18:53So what year did the show first come out?
- 18:56Then I can tell you where I was at.
- 18:57Let's see here.
- 18:59I actually, I'm so about eight years, but I started after season three.
- 19:05So that was 2015.
- 19:07That's not fun.
- 19:08Okay, it came out in 2011.
- 19:10So I did start watching it with my husband originally.
- 19:12Okay.
- 19:13Like season one.
- 19:14Yeah, we were there from the beginning.
- 19:18And we had friends throughout the years and every Sunday night, we would go to their house.
- 19:22And like we would all kind of pile on the couch and watch it together.
- 19:25We had that for walking dead for a while to kind of figure it off that.
- 19:28And then we switched to Game of Thrones.
- 19:30But yeah, it was like a big event every Sunday.
- 19:33Like you would get all of your friends together and watch Game of Thrones.
- 19:36And I loved it from the beginning.
- 19:38In hindsight, there are absolutely some points and parts that made me very uncomfortable,
- 19:44especially seeing how different House of the Dragon is, especially from a female perspective.
- 19:51Game of Thrones had some moments that were not necessary, trigger warning mentions of
- 19:55rape and incest, but we're going to, it's Game of Thrones.
- 19:58There's going to be some incest.
- 20:00So in hindsight, there were some parts that obviously made me uncomfortable, but really,
- 20:03the violence didn't bother me.
- 20:06Watching a man's eyeballs get summed out of his skull and the red wedding.
- 20:11Because that was the thing, right?
- 20:13It was so shocking.
- 20:16What was your reaction at the end of season one?
- 20:18Did you read the books, first of all?
- 20:20Because I did not.
- 20:21I have read the books, but I had not read the books before the show.
- 20:26So I was like a big show fan.
- 20:29Yeah.
- 20:30As soon as the show ended, I had a gaping void in my soul.
- 20:35Yeah.
- 20:36And so I was like, okay, I'm going to read the books right after that.
- 20:39I had them both in physical copy and then I ended up getting the audio book because they
- 20:46are so long.
- 20:48The most dense books.
- 20:52There's so much lore.
- 20:53I will say I read the books, I read all of them, and I was doing research to talk about
- 21:00this episode and some of the history of the books and all this stuff.
- 21:03And I'm like, oh my gosh, you could just tell me in fact and be like, you remember this,
- 21:08right?
- 21:09Totally.
- 21:10Totally.
- 21:11Absolutely.
- 21:12Yeah.
- 21:13Yeah.
- 21:14By now, it reminds me of reading the Bible I've been told is like, and then this man be get this
- 21:18man and then his son would be get this man.
- 21:21You're tried listening to it in audio book for a while, but then we kind of petered off
- 21:24too.
- 21:25Because I would be in the car if I'm how he was listening.
- 21:27But at the end of season one, when Ned Stark got beheaded, just the collective gasp that
- 21:32all the non book readers took because we thought he was going to be the main character.
- 21:37Yeah.
- 21:38You go up to that episode and you're like, oh my god, there's no way they're going to kill
- 21:41Ned Stark.
- 21:42He's the main character of the entire, oh my god, they killed him.
- 21:46And then you think, well, okay, yeah, Rob Stark's going to be the main, oh god, they killed him.
- 21:51That's what kind of show this outfit.
- 21:53Yeah.
- 21:54No one is safe.
- 21:55Yeah.
- 21:56And then you start thinking, I can't have a favorite character.
- 21:58There is no main, main character.
- 22:00I mean, eventually it became what John Danny Cersei, Tyrion, right?
- 22:06Yeah.
- 22:07And for anyone who didn't know, Game of Thrones is a book series.
- 22:12It's actually called A Song of Ice and Fire is the series.
- 22:16But the initial book was a Game of Thrones.
- 22:19It was published in 1996.
- 22:22And it came out to a warm reception, but it didn't know means had the cultural zeitgeist
- 22:29that the show did.
- 22:30And by the time the show came out, it was a very well acclaimed fantasy series.
- 22:36Around the same time it's like the Harry Potter books too for the first time.
- 22:40Yeah, in 1996.
- 22:41Yeah.
- 22:42And so Harry Potter, I think, just had that chokehold.
- 22:45And obviously Harry Potter's young adult and children.
- 22:48And he got more adult as time went on.
- 22:50And Game of Thrones is very much like an adult series.
- 22:53But I think Harry Potter just had such a grasp of like the fantasy chokehold of the world.
- 22:57Yeah.
- 22:58After Game of Thrones, we had a clash of kings in 1998, a swarm of swords in 2000, a feast
- 23:06for crows in 2005.
- 23:09And then we have a dance with dragons in 2011.
- 23:11And that's last one he released, right?
- 23:14So he also released a different book as well.
- 23:17It's called Fire and Blood.
- 23:19I want to say that came on in 2017.
- 23:22And that is a deeper look into the histories of House Targaryen.
- 23:27So it has a lot to do with the dance of the dragons, which is ultimately what House of
- 23:34the Dragons HBO show is based on.
- 23:36Interesting.
- 23:37So House of the Dragons is based on a book that he wrote after all of the Game of Thrones.
- 23:43Interesting.
- 23:44But it's like an earlier history.
- 23:46So the Targaryens obviously come out of power by the time that we start a Game of Thrones.
- 23:53And I think when I look back on the series of Game of Thrones, what I really think of is
- 23:58God, one through five are some amazing pieces of television.
- 24:04He's incredible.
- 24:05So good.
- 24:06And where they start to get off their rocker is season six and season seven.
- 24:11Now, I still think that it's good.
- 24:13We're going to talk a lot about the ending of Game of Thrones, you know, ultimately everyone's
- 24:19first real HBO heartbreak.
- 24:21Oh, honestly, oh my God.
- 24:24There was controversy about the way that the sopranos ended.
- 24:27And I feel like a lot of times your favorite show, you build it up so much that it has to have
- 24:32this perfect ending, but there's very rare fanalities that you finish.
- 24:36And you're like, yeah, that was perfect.
- 24:38I think the Buffy finale was pretty flawless.
- 24:41I think breaking bad was a great.
- 24:44Oh, like the breaking bad finale was so great.
- 24:47It was great.
- 24:48It was like the city finale was pretty good too in the France finale.
- 24:51I think they wrapped up most of the storylines, but then there's those heartbreakers like Dexter
- 24:57and Game of Thrones and you just want to throw your remote through your telephone.
- 25:01Yeah.
- 25:02It feels like a real disservice.
- 25:03And if you're like us where you're like, okay, after season five, it really started to
- 25:09go downhill.
- 25:10And I think this is the ultimate crux that ruined it.
- 25:13So George R.R. Martin has been very involved with Game of Thrones all the way up.
- 25:18Until season five.
- 25:21And season five starts to get to, it's very interesting that they didn't want his involvement
- 25:27after season five because I didn't know that.
- 25:29I thought he just kept it away.
- 25:31Yeah.
- 25:32And George R.R. Martin has said that he does not know why he was less involved, but that
- 25:37he became less involved.
- 25:39But season five kind of ends where the last book ended.
- 25:45So the last book is the dance with dragons or the last in chronological order.
- 25:50Yeah, yeah, I got you.
- 25:51And so where the books end happens is we don't know if Jon Snow is going to come back.
- 25:57Will he be resurrected?
- 25:58Oh, man.
- 25:59That finale where he dies, dude.
- 26:02Another one where we all just are.
- 26:06Those finalies were so fucking good.
- 26:10Like Jon Snow dying, Danny walking out of the fire naked, like powerful, right?
- 26:16Mm-hmm.
- 26:17Oh, yeah.
- 26:18And in the book, you have Daenerys who has just escaped Marine on Dragon.
- 26:24Tyrann has just escaped Essos and is trying to figure out where he's going to go next.
- 26:31He's going to try to meet Daenerys.
- 26:34Dennis Baratheon is about to face the Boltons and I hate Stanisly.
- 26:40Arya is still with the faceless man in the last book.
- 26:44She hasn't even made her way back to have the revenge for the red wedding and all of those
- 26:49things.
- 26:50What?
- 26:51God, I wanted that storyline to have so much more on than it did, right?
- 26:55It was so badass that she was training with the faceless man.
- 26:57She did get revenge and she killed the old man with all the child brides that was daughters.
- 27:04Walter Frey?
- 27:05Yes.
- 27:06Yeah, and I mean, she killed him and that was badass.
- 27:07But I think that was one of my gripes with Game of Thrones, right?
- 27:09Some things were built up to be so incredible.
- 27:11We were like, "Yeah, yeah."
- 27:12And then I was like, "Oh, okay."
- 27:14Oh, yeah.
- 27:15Well, I was kind of thinking about it when I knew that we were going to talk about this
- 27:20here together.
- 27:21And as someone who watched the show, it maybe had an idea of kind of what the book was
- 27:28trying to say or where the lore was left off at, where the song was headed.
- 27:34Yeah, where you thought it was.
- 27:35And the Prince who was promised.
- 27:38Exactly.
- 27:39The Prince who was promised, dude.
- 27:40And like, I remember being on message boards and being like, "John is really a Targaryen
- 27:45and he's the right booking."
- 27:47And then they went there and we were all excited because the fans called it.
- 27:52But then it kind of fizzled.
- 27:54Yeah.
- 27:55I think the ultimate crux, and it is hard when you're taking a book to a TV show.
- 28:01Like you have to cut some things out.
- 28:03But unfortunately, the things that they cut out were a lot of the magic.
- 28:07It's really good.
- 28:08But a lot of the magic actually propels and has all this prophecy and the blood magic
- 28:14created the dragons and all these things.
- 28:16So without the magic and the elements to it, it makes it really hard to get where they
- 28:22were going because they cut all of that development out.
- 28:26Now.
- 28:27Does it Catlin Stark come back as like a resurrected zombie?
- 28:30Yeah.
- 28:31And it's like a big part of the books.
- 28:33Yeah.
- 28:34And it's a large storyline.
- 28:36But they don't do any of that.
- 28:38And I think that would be hard.
- 28:39But they cut out a lot of the magic and things like that.
- 28:43They just said that they're doing another spin off.
- 28:47I'll have to actually look at it.
- 28:48I saw that literally today.
- 28:50Like earlier.
- 28:51Old men, the first men of the Andals.
- 28:54Yeah.
- 28:55And I know that they either canceled the John Snow Show or that Kit Harington was no longer
- 28:58available.
- 28:59I don't know if I want another spin off right away.
- 29:02I'm so invested in House of the Dragons and they're doing such a good job so far.
- 29:05I really have very few complaints about House of the Dragons so far.
- 29:09The story that I want is the doom of Old Beliria.
- 29:13I want to know how the dragons were made and I want to know what the hell happened there
- 29:20because it's basically like a pompe, like a whole world was destroyed.
- 29:25They founded Westeros because there was a vision from Aegon's sister, one of the sister wives.
- 29:32Aegon.
- 29:33Which one?
- 29:34The first one, Aegon the Conqueror.
- 29:36But one of his sister wives had a vision that they have to go to Westeros and escape because
- 29:42something bad was going to happen.
- 29:43And so that is like the whole story of everything we know in that history.
- 29:47So you want to go back to the very beginning of all this?
- 29:49Yes.
- 29:50And how they created the dragons because the dragons were created, it's pretty messed up.
- 29:57They're created from Bloodmagic and the Targaryens sleep with the dragons.
- 30:03They mate with the dragons.
- 30:05I guess that's not too shocking just because they keep calling Daniels the mother of dragons
- 30:10and the blood of the dragons.
- 30:13They literally are because they're like, yeah, it's weird.
- 30:16And we saw how they made the White Walker reason.
- 30:19That was obviously with some kind of Bloodmagic right.
- 30:22They like the children of the forest like stabbed that man.
- 30:26Yeah.
- 30:27So the story that they're saying that they're going to do is what leads to the initial event
- 30:34where like the White Walkers get created.
- 30:37Interesting.
- 30:38So that's the story that I would cover.
- 30:41But how do you feel about how the saga of the White Walkers ended in the show?
- 30:48Because I was pretty disappointed with it.
- 30:51I feel like there was so much build up throughout the entire show.
- 30:55Winter is coming.
- 30:56Winter is coming.
- 30:57Like it's kind of a joke and spoiler, but they say that phrase and season two of House
- 31:01of the Dragon and me and my husband had looked at each other and were like, really winter
- 31:04is coming.
- 31:05It's 250 years, maybe.
- 31:07But like, yeah.
- 31:08Yeah.
- 31:11The White Walkers, like it built it up to be such a threat.
- 31:14And then it kind of like, mm-hmm.
- 31:15It wasn't even the series finale.
- 31:16It was just, like, I don't know.
- 31:18So my controversial opinion about the ending of Game of Thrones is that I don't hate
- 31:27the ending.
- 31:29I hated the pacing.
- 31:31And so I feel that.
- 31:33If season six and season seven were actually like four seasons, I think they could have
- 31:40made it work.
- 31:41So spread out why Danny is losing her mind.
- 31:44It felt so rushed.
- 31:45She went from being so stable and we're all rooting for her to all the sudden she snaps,
- 31:50right?
- 31:51She loses it.
- 31:52Yeah.
- 31:53And I know she witnessed like her best friend dying and she's going through all those
- 31:55traumas, Cersei's a bitch.
- 31:57Yeah.
- 31:58There needed to be more, I was going to say, build up, but really a slow descent into
- 32:02madness.
- 32:03And I think that would have been more earned to see her.
- 32:07Well, like one of the things that they actually talking about in episode one of season two is
- 32:14how for the entire history of the dragons, none of the dragons would go past the wall.
- 32:23Now they cut that out of Game of Thrones, the original show.
- 32:27Then it really talked about the magic beyond the wall and of the dragons were afraid of
- 32:33it and they refused to go there.
- 32:35I didn't like it.
- 32:36They'd gone the conqueror.
- 32:37And so they cut that out.
- 32:39They also cut out Danny and the dragon that she loses to the night king.
- 32:46Oh, so dragon.
- 32:47Yeah, yeah.
- 32:48Her had this telepathic connection.
- 32:51And she was that dragon was specifically like obsessed with her.
- 32:55And so the show chose to really only do Drogon as like the close one, but she had this like
- 33:01deep connection with the dragon and losing that was like such a deep thing to her.
- 33:08And you know, they cut out a lot of like juxtaposition and understanding of that would
- 33:13help the viewers see why she's going crazy and not just, you know, oh, her dad was nuts.
- 33:20So she's destined to be nuts.
- 33:21I don't know.
- 33:22It just felt so forced and quick and shocking and not in the way that we're used to game
- 33:28with her always being shocking in that all of the sudden Pedro Pascal is getting his
- 33:33school crush.
- 33:34But it's sexy, baby.
- 33:37That's sexy.
- 33:38The sexy is school crushing of all time in Santa.
- 33:41Yeah, but that brought us the famous person that is Pedro Pascal nowadays.
- 33:47We would have never gotten that call me daddy lie detector interview without game of
- 33:52throne.
- 33:53So this is true.
- 33:54I mean, oh my god.
- 33:55What a scene.
- 33:56What I'm saying is those scenes were shocking, right?
- 33:58But like a good shocking where by the end of the episode, we were all jumping up and down
- 34:02and screaming and going, what the hell?
- 34:03Oh my god.
- 34:04And like the red wedding and the purple wedding.
- 34:07Danny losing her mind and like burning everything.
- 34:12We the episode finished and we were all just like, what the fact.
- 34:16Yeah.
- 34:17Okay.
- 34:18Well, I guess we're not really rooting for Daenerys anymore.
- 34:21I also, yeah.
- 34:23I also, yeah.
- 34:24Like John is to be stupid, right?
- 34:25That's too, right?
- 34:26I don't know.
- 34:27I also think the way that Bran ends up on the Iron Throne, I actually really think that
- 34:34makes sense because like why have we been following his journey to the North?
- 34:40Like why did he have to connect with the old gods?
- 34:42I think it makes sense.
- 34:43Yeah.
- 34:44But they just didn't give it time.
- 34:46Exactly.
- 34:47And then that was very rushed and thrown at the end and the whole point of the show is, well,
- 34:51you know what?
- 34:52Maybe it's not the whole point of the show.
- 34:53The title of the show is Game of Thrones.
- 34:55So at the end, who's going to end up on this throne?
- 34:58Mm-hmm.
- 34:59And then on this, it's Bran, which I agree.
- 35:01It was fine.
- 35:02I wasn't that mad at that.
- 35:04I kind of liked that it wasn't somebody that we expected.
- 35:07Like John or Danny or Cersei or even Tyrion in the end.
- 35:11It was Bran.
- 35:12Yeah.
- 35:13It was just shuffled in right at the last minute, right?
- 35:16And then Jamie hooking up with Brienne.
- 35:20That was just fan service.
- 35:21Yeah.
- 35:22Very much fan service.
- 35:23Yeah.
- 35:24So what's interesting is when they had all this blowback.
- 35:28So Benny often wise, where the producer in this show, the big controversy and media story
- 35:34is that they were going to go do Star Wars after the season ended.
- 35:41And they were trying to wrap up Game of Thrones really, really quickly so they could go on to Star
- 35:46Wars.
- 35:47People freaked out so badly that they ended up losing Star Wars because people were so upset
- 35:54with them about Game of Thrones.
- 35:56They made Disney boot them.
- 35:58So it ended up not even working out for them.
- 36:00But they didn't say that despite George R.R. Martin kind of taking a back seat in season
- 36:06five, when they figured out they were going to end the show, they asked him, where are
- 36:10you going to end the series?
- 36:13And he gave them what he thought he was going to do.
- 36:18And I think ultimately the reaction from the fans is why we still do not have the last
- 36:26two books.
- 36:27I totally agree.
- 36:28At this point, George R.R. Martin has two choices, right?
- 36:33Write the books like he told the creators of Game of Thrones and stay true to the television
- 36:38show.
- 36:39Which he knows people don't like or completely say, fuck the TV show and write the ending
- 36:48that he thinks that everybody, but maybe the other one was the one that he wanted.
- 36:52And now he already got us all hearing that we hate it.
- 36:55And so he goes, oh shit, well, okay, let me change everything and then give us the story.
- 37:02What I think would be really cool.
- 37:04You remember those shoes, your own adventure books?
- 37:09And maybe this is why it's taking him so long, theory times, giving us like seven endings.
- 37:15He's writing them both.
- 37:17He's writing the way the TV show ended and then an alternate ending.
- 37:22And these are the two endings.
- 37:24Choose which one you like.
- 37:26Choose your own ending story.
- 37:27It's like butterfly effect back in the day that Ashford Kutcher would be and they give
- 37:31us.
- 37:32I love that movie so much.
- 37:33Do I love that movie?
- 37:34We should watch that movie next time.
- 37:35Yes.
- 37:36Come over to your house.
- 37:37Yes.
- 37:38I don't know, I could forever.
- 37:39Yes.
- 37:40Obsessed.
- 37:41Where they give you like the two different endings though, when he tells off the girl and the
- 37:44other one where he kills himself in the womb, which is the superior ending because Holy
- 37:48Shed.
- 37:49I'm going to self abort.
- 37:52Thank you.
- 37:53Thank you.
- 37:54Well, the millennial can't relate to that.
- 37:56Yeah.
- 37:57Self abortion.
- 37:58Yeah.
- 37:59Exactly.
- 38:00Honestly, I feel like he's not going to release it.
- 38:03Like I think he has, because he has Windsor Winter and then a dream of spring.
- 38:08I think that's the titles.
- 38:10Yeah.
- 38:11So he is.
- 38:12Those are the two books that he has left that he said he's going to put out in the series.
- 38:16And I think this is my crazy one.
- 38:19I think that he's finished them both, but he's not going to release him until he dies.
- 38:23Like it's going to be like in his.
- 38:26No one can get mad at these dead.
- 38:29Yeah.
- 38:30That's what I think.
- 38:31Honestly.
- 38:32I don't think George Aramarton.
- 38:33He's like 78 plus.
- 38:35Unfortunately, Google it.
- 38:36Is he like, oh, this guy's going to die or is he like, ah, he's old, but like, I don't know
- 38:42if he's in the best health.
- 38:44How old is George Aramarton?
- 38:4775.
- 38:48Did you hear my Siri?
- 38:49He went, uh-huh.
- 38:50He's so fucking sassy.
- 38:53He's 75.
- 38:54He's old.
- 38:55But he's not like running for president.
- 38:58Old.
- 38:59Right.
- 39:00I don't know if he's in the best of health.
- 39:01Now, what I will say after we just dogged on the game of their own series, I do think that
- 39:09House of the Dragon is much better set up for success.
- 39:13Oh, I love it so far.
- 39:15It's a completed storyline, aside from Danny, which we won't see in this timeline.
- 39:21Yeah.
- 39:22The time period that we're looking at is like a completed and a finished history.
- 39:28Exactly.
- 39:29When this eventually comes to a close, it'll be how George Aramarton wrote it and how he
- 39:34wanted it to close.
- 39:35I'm really enjoying it so far.
- 39:37I mean, I think that it has the violence of Game of Thrones, maybe not to like the extreme
- 39:44that Game of Thrones did, but some of the scenes do make you like, oh, God, that guy's head
- 39:49getting sliced in half in season one.
- 39:51Oh, yeah.
- 39:52Okay, here comes the portion of the show.
- 39:54We're going to talk about House of the Dragon.
- 39:56So if you haven't watched season one, do now.
- 39:58It's childbirth?
- 39:59Oh, my God.
- 40:00I didn't want to have children anyway, but yeah, definitely.
- 40:04I want to.
- 40:05Yeah.
- 40:06And I think you mentioned at the beginning, like you prefer the way that they're covering
- 40:11it in House of the Dragon compared to the kind of Game of Thrones lens.
- 40:16It, I think, a lot of the scenes with the women in this show are showing how the battles
- 40:24that they faced, although it wasn't war and hand-to-hand combat.
- 40:28They were in just as brutal of situations.
- 40:31And I thought that was very well done and totally agree.
- 40:36When you think back to Game of Thrones, there's things that people think about was, oh, my God,
- 40:40it was so good when it was good.
- 40:42The finale and final season sucked, but also why was there so much rape, right?
- 40:47And especially rape of a female character that was used just to advance a male character's
- 40:52plot.
- 40:53The only reason Sansa was raped, which doesn't even happen in the books, right?
- 40:56They combine her story with another character.
- 40:59The only reason she was raped in the series was for the shock of it and to advance fucking
- 41:05reeks storyline.
- 41:06Yeah, where he has his redemption, yeah.
- 41:09Exactly.
- 41:10I do like that so far in this show.
- 41:13I mean, and it's a medieval show.
- 41:15There's going to be incest and sketchy sex scenes, obviously.
- 41:20I think that kind of, I don't know.
- 41:22We're not going to get rid of it, right?
- 41:23There's some implied rape in the House of the Dragons.
- 41:26But we're not forced as the viewers to watch a brutal rape scene of a woman just to advance
- 41:32a man's plot so far.
- 41:33So far.
- 41:34So far, so far.
- 41:35So far.
- 41:36So far.
- 41:37They could show.
- 41:38Does the point is, yeah, this is just us covering.
- 41:40We're going to talk about episode one, watch episodes two and three.
- 41:43Just be like, yeah, it's going to be a girl to it is.
- 41:46I know.
- 41:47Yeah.
- 41:48So I would say, if you're like, be and you're watching this show or when you first started
- 41:53watching this show, you're like, okay, where are we?
- 41:56In the timeline.
- 41:58House of the Dragon, the show is happening about 200 years before Game of Thrones happens.
- 42:06Before Daenerys Targaryen, as they put it in the title for season one.
- 42:11Yes.
- 42:12Yes.
- 42:13And then Aeglon's Conquest, which was the first one.
- 42:17So when he comes to Westeros, that is 100 years before House of the Dragon.
- 42:25Now the Mad King, who is a part of Game of Thrones, he's about 15 to 20 years before Danny.
- 42:31Because that's Danny's father.
- 42:34Yeah.
- 42:35Correct.
- 42:36And so that's kind of where you are at a placement inside the time.
- 42:40But I think it is really interesting.
- 42:42The Targaryens are still very new to Westeros in the time that we're seeing them.
- 42:48So they've only been there for about 100 years.
- 42:52And what I found was really interesting is the High Towers, Auto High Tower and Allyson
- 42:57High Tower.
- 42:58Yes.
- 42:59They're the oldest family in Westeros.
- 43:02And so it's the newest and the oldest kind of coming together in this partnership.
- 43:08But then ultimately in season two, we see it as the Civil War among the Targaryens.
- 43:14Do you hear a mention of the High Towers at all in Game of Thrones?
- 43:17I don't remember hearing about them at all.
- 43:19Maybe like a one-off line.
- 43:20But they're not.
- 43:21No.
- 43:22They're not a major family.
- 43:25Their land is Old Town, which the Tyrells have taken over Old Town by the time that we see
- 43:32them in there.
- 43:33So a little bit of foreshadowing.
- 43:35You're like, oh, I don't know the High Towers.
- 43:38And so the High Towers, they're known for their use of a wildfire and the High Towers.
- 43:45Yes.
- 43:46And then you have the Targaryens who have Dragon Fire.
- 43:50And so it is this very, the oldest in the newest wildfire, Dragon Fire.
- 43:55So it is this very interesting part.
- 43:59Of course, when we meet them in House of the Dragon, they have a ton of dragons.
- 44:06And so Dani's power of having three dragons that no one else has, there is this ability
- 44:13to fight each other.
- 44:15And we're going to see eventually throughout this series what happened to all the dragons.
- 44:18200 years isn't that long of time in the course of history either.
- 44:23So something happened in these 200 years that wiped out dragons that they became just
- 44:27like a old wives tale essentially.
- 44:31Yeah.
- 44:32And I would argue that what we're going to see is going to be a large casualty of dragons.
- 44:39And so it's not ultimately like the catastrophic event, but it will limit the dragons.
- 44:46Absolutely.
- 44:47And we're going to see our re-pity scene because over time they've gone to the forest.
- 44:51We've already seen what two dragons die so far.
- 44:54I think so.
- 44:55Yeah.
- 44:56Yeah.
- 44:57And they're getting older, the bigger ones are getting slower and things like that.
- 45:02So when season one ended, who side were you on?
- 45:06Oh, I'm absolutely on Reneer's side.
- 45:09Yes.
- 45:10100%.
- 45:11There's no doubt in my mind.
- 45:12When Viserys is on his deathbed, and by the way, the CG of him aging and decaying, disgusting,
- 45:20but so well done.
- 45:22Just disgusting.
- 45:23It's just disgusting.
- 45:24But it was one of us.
- 45:26And he mentions on his deathbed like the name Aegon, right?
- 45:32And he's talking about Aegon the conqueror.
- 45:35Aegon the conqueror.
- 45:36A song of ice and fire.
- 45:38Yes. And his wife is thinks that he's referring to their son Aegon.
- 45:44And I argue that this entire show could be solved if everybody just stopped naming their
- 45:49kids fucking Aegon.
- 45:50Yeah.
- 45:51I was going to put 11 Aegons.
- 45:53Yeah.
- 45:54There are 11 Aegons in this series.
- 45:56That's not that great of a name, you guys.
- 45:58Think of something else.
- 45:59I was with my parents on Father's Day because they released a song, Father's Day.
- 46:05And I was trying to give them a recap.
- 46:09And they were like, okay, well, when within the time period, who's this first?
- 46:14And I was like, did they watch Game of Thrones?
- 46:15Yes, they did.
- 46:16Okay, thank God.
- 46:17And you say, because otherwise you're just like, just shut up and watch it like I do.
- 46:21Yeah.
- 46:22But that almost made it worse because then they were like, well, how does that fit into
- 46:24this one?
- 46:25Yeah.
- 46:26Where's John Snoke?
- 46:27Was that the mad king?
- 46:28Well, it was different.
- 46:29Was it the Aegon the conqueror?
- 46:31And you're like, God damn it.
- 46:34I'm looking at the Targaryen family tree.
- 46:37Like you will be confused.
- 46:39Like the same.
- 46:40I mean, because they're all married to their own fucking sisters and stuff.
- 46:43Even in, okay, spoilers.
- 46:45We're going to talk about episode two here in a little bit.
- 46:48Oh, episode one.
- 46:49You're right.
- 46:50Season two, episode one.
- 46:51King Aegon walks in and he's like, this is the queen.
- 46:55And I went, isn't that a sister?
- 46:57Oh, yeah.
- 46:58No, Targaryen.
- 46:59Yep, they're a Targaryen.
- 47:01I would say most people left season one with that same thought.
- 47:06Now, again, episode one of season two.
- 47:10Are there some people that are house great?
- 47:11Yes.
- 47:12Yeah, it's like a thing.
- 47:13What?
- 47:14No.
- 47:15Yeah.
- 47:16And so now, though, at the end of season two, episode one, we ultimately, it's so down.
- 47:25Blood and cheese are the names of the two guys that we made at the very, like, last 10
- 47:31minutes of the episode.
- 47:32And it's a very important part in the book that tells the story.
- 47:37And I was going to say it's such an important part of the book and it's such an important part
- 47:41of this episode.
- 47:42And obviously for really setting forth the civil war for the rest of the series, and it's
- 47:47given to two guys named Blood and Cheese.
- 47:50Yeah.
- 47:51Like, I love that.
- 47:52Yeah.
- 47:53And ultimately, the show really tunes it down.
- 47:57The main criticism, which y'all are sickos if you said this, if you read the books and then
- 48:02watch the show, they want to see it.
- 48:05Yeah.
- 48:06Yeah.
- 48:07A little kid getting their head cut off.
- 48:08Yeah.
- 48:09There is some heading of a literal child of the episode and they don't show it, but you hear
- 48:14it.
- 48:15Yeah.
- 48:16The sound effects are gross.
- 48:18But okay.
- 48:19So in the books, I need to see that.
- 48:21In the books, they at this time period have two sons.
- 48:26And so rather than making her choose between a daughter and a son, they say, which of your
- 48:32sons do you want to die?
- 48:34Oh, sure.
- 48:35And she says the younger one, Maylor, I think is not the heir.
- 48:39Yeah.
- 48:40And then they end up killing the heir and saying, you hear that little boy, your mother wants
- 48:45you dead.
- 48:46Oh.
- 48:47And then they kill him and they leave.
- 48:49And ultimately that's what makes her go crazy.
- 48:52She's already crazy in the show.
- 48:54Well, she has Targaryen visions, but no one believes her.
- 48:58I just realized in the beginning of that episode, she says the rats are coming.
- 49:02Yeah.
- 49:03Oh my God.
- 49:04I didn't even think about that until literally right now.
- 49:06Aegon comes in and he's like, what's up, darling?
- 49:08And she says the rats and everyone looks at her like she's the rat.
- 49:12Yeah.
- 49:13And well, okay.
- 49:15So she has two visions that come through.
- 49:18Allyson tells Aamond, you'll have a dragon one day.
- 49:22And she says, I'll have to lose an eye first.
- 49:25So it gets his eye taken.
- 49:27And then when Raynise comes up with the dragon out of the floorboards and like, it's here,
- 49:35I'm trying to floorboards.
- 49:37Well, she kept saying there's a beast in the board.
- 49:40There's a beast in the board.
- 49:41There's a beast in the board.
- 49:43There's a beast in the board.
- 49:44There's a beast in the board.
- 49:45So she is predicting everything, but no one listens to her.
- 49:48She reminds me of an avatar, Elaine.
- 49:52Mm-hmm.
- 49:53Yeah.
- 49:54Everyone thinks that she's just babbling crazy, but she's actually having visions that they
- 49:58need to be listening to.
- 49:59Hopefully they start to realize that with House of the Dragons.
- 50:02But I feel like they're not going to--
- 50:04I think she's going to go worse now.
- 50:06I think so too.
- 50:07I mean, she just watched her son die and she's a product of deep incest.
- 50:11Yes.
- 50:12Yeah.
- 50:13So what's interesting is--
- 50:15I think Cersei and Jamie were obviously evil in their own.
- 50:18Yeah.
- 50:19But they are immediately introduced as an incest couple.
- 50:26And people hate them immediately from that.
- 50:29But then you look at Raniera and Damon and people are like, "Oh, yeah."
- 50:34And that's why they think it's because we're just so desensitized to Game of Thrones incest
- 50:39that we're just kind of like, "Well, yeah.
- 50:42It's not the worst we've seen.
- 50:43At least they're not identical twins."
- 50:45I mean, even in the end of Game of Thrones, Danny is John's aunt.
- 50:50Yeah.
- 50:51We were all wanted them to bang so bad.
- 50:53Yeah.
- 50:54I don't know if we all just kind of--
- 50:57Yeah.
- 50:58I don't know if it's because we have been told through all of Game of Thrones.
- 51:03Like, about something, the Targaryen thing.
- 51:04That's a Targaryen thing.
- 51:05That's a Targaryen thing.
- 51:06That's a Targaryen thing.
- 51:07So we kind of knew to expect it.
- 51:11Yeah.
- 51:12It's very interesting.
- 51:13I think that it's so taboo with the Lannisters with the Targaryen.
- 51:16It's just literally it occurred to me.
- 51:18Oh, that's a sister.
- 51:19Ew.
- 51:20And then I went, "Oh, yeah."
- 51:22Yeah.
- 51:23We're the first episode of Game of Thrones.
- 51:26You're like, "Holy shit, these people are disgusting."
- 51:29And Saikno incest is disgusting.
- 51:32It is gross.
- 51:33Make that clear.
- 51:34Make that clear.
- 51:35We do not condone incest of the pop culture, check these out, guys.
- 51:38Yes.
- 51:39And in fantasy game of Thrones, and it's a Targaryen, maybe, maybe.
- 51:45No, I think Damon and Reniro, I shipped them so hard in season one, even though it was disgusting.
- 51:51Yes.
- 51:52Yeah.
- 51:53I love them too.
- 51:54I think their relationship is going to be really interesting.
- 51:58Oh, yeah.
- 51:59This blood and cheese.
- 52:00She's going to be furious.
- 52:02He better be furious too, because that's not at all what he asked for.
- 52:05He didn't say kill any old son you find.
- 52:08He said kill this specific dude.
- 52:10Yeah.
- 52:11In the book, it's, he only makes the decree a son for the son.
- 52:16So he leaves you a little vague.
- 52:18Yeah, but they make him look a lot better in the show, which is interesting.
- 52:23I think the showrunners keep saying it is so weird to me that everybody loves Damon.
- 52:29Because we love Matt Smith.
- 52:30Yes.
- 52:31Yeah, everybody is like, "It's just like he's so hot."
- 52:33Like, I don't know.
- 52:34It's the doctor.
- 52:35You can't be mad at the doctor.
- 52:36Yeah.
- 52:37I'm charming.
- 52:38That he makes it worse.
- 52:39I don't care that he doesn't have eyebrows.
- 52:41He's so fine.
- 52:42Yeah.
- 52:43Yeah.
- 52:44But I think it's going to be interesting.
- 52:45I think the story is nobody wins in the end.
- 52:49Oh, absolutely.
- 52:50No.
- 52:51The chargherons come out of power.
- 52:52But I think it's going to be a brutal season.
- 52:55I haven't read the books.
- 52:57So I have no idea.
- 52:59In my mind.
- 53:01And obviously it's a prequel.
- 53:02So eventually these characters are going to die and catch up.
- 53:06I think Renere and Alice Center are both going to have their brutal ends at some point in
- 53:10this show.
- 53:11I hope they have some moment where they both reunite and realize, "Oh, fuck.
- 53:16I miss you.
- 53:17I love you too little, too late."
- 53:19And then they both die bloodly.
- 53:22I don't think, like you said, there's not going to be a happy ending for anybody.
- 53:25House high tower obviously doesn't exist anymore.
- 53:29The chargherons go into extinction.
- 53:31I don't think there's going to be a lot of happiness to be had over the course of this
- 53:35show.
- 53:36The fans.
- 53:37We're going to be happy because we're going to be very happy.
- 53:40Bloody and sexy and jaw dropping.
- 53:42But nobody in the show is going to have a happy ending in the slightest.
- 53:46Yeah.
- 53:47Ultimately, I have been consuming so much PR and so much press for this House of the Dragons.
- 53:54I love all of their friendships so much.
- 53:57Like the puppy interview.
- 53:58Oh, my God.
- 53:59Olivia, I love Emma Darcy.
- 54:01I love Emma Darcy.
- 54:04I love that they are this non-binary, gorgeous person.
- 54:10Oh, my God.
- 54:11So fine.
- 54:12People really respect their acting ability and their talent.
- 54:16And then they find out that this person is non-binary and they're like, "Oh, I can see
- 54:21that.
- 54:22I can get that."
- 54:23And they have a connection in a way that they haven't really before.
- 54:26And I think it's just beautiful.
- 54:27I do too.
- 54:28And I love that their co-stars are standing up for them because there's been a couple
- 54:31of points that Emma has been misgendered over the press tour because of the Dragon.
- 54:37And they will or their co-workers will just be like, "Oh, it's actually they."
- 54:40Yeah.
- 54:41Oh, shoot.
- 54:42Oh, my God.
- 54:43Matt Smith had the most perfect correction.
- 54:48They kept calling Emma a "she" and you went, "Yeah, they really are amazing."
- 54:55And they just care about their craft.
- 54:57And he did it so classy, but like they caught on.
- 54:59Like, come on.
- 55:00Come on.
- 55:01They really try.
- 55:02And I was like, "God, he's so hot."
- 55:05Oh, God.
- 55:06He's so hot.
- 55:07And you know what the thing about him is he's not like, we've talked about this a lot before.
- 55:11He's not one of those dudes who's like, traditionally attractive.
- 55:14Yeah.
- 55:15But he's so hot.
- 55:16A man who's going to stand up for your pronouns is Dr. Who and is also Damon Targaryen.
- 55:24Like, yeah.
- 55:26You can keep the wig.
- 55:27You can toss the wig.
- 55:29I love it.
- 55:30Keep it on.
- 55:31You can use your magic screwdriver on me.
- 55:34Yeah, baby.
- 55:37I'm still waiting for our viral.
- 55:39Oh, Stunnan.
- 55:40Oh, Stunnan.
- 55:41I'm not going to season, but I think Olivia Cook, it has some really funny moments throughout
- 55:47this one.
- 55:48And she is just such a beautiful creature.
- 55:51Oh, my God.
- 55:52She's so gorgeous.
- 55:53I love that her and Emma are like besties.
- 55:55I watched them interview where she was like, who's your favorite scene partner in Emma
- 56:00said, you, she said, OK, no, no, no, no, no, besides me, besides me.
- 56:06My favorite scene partner.
- 56:09You.
- 56:10Yeah.
- 56:11Oh, God, you.
- 56:12Yeah.
- 56:13No, I love it.
- 56:14I'm really excited to see where the show goes.
- 56:16I love Sunday night television.
- 56:18I'm such a sucker for this.
- 56:19I love this about pop culture.
- 56:21It's like those shows that we all watch, right?
- 56:25And I don't care if some people know every character's name and they know their history and they
- 56:32know the Targaryen bloodline.
- 56:34And other people are just like, I like the blonde guy.
- 56:38I don't care.
- 56:39I like that.
- 56:40It's a discussion.
- 56:41It's a discussion and it's something that kind of takes the sweeps us all up like Tiger
- 56:46King did or breaking bad or game of thrones.
- 56:50Yeah.
- 56:51Any of that stuff.
- 56:52I love those moments in pop culture.
- 56:53Yeah, I think if you can do it in 2024, it's just a damn good show.
- 56:58If everyone's talking about it, it's good because there's so many options that people can
- 57:04do.
- 57:05There's so much fun with it.
- 57:06And if so many people are all watching something or talking about it, it's going to be
- 57:10good.
- 57:11And if you somehow avoided watching Game of Thrones, first of all, your will, your tenacity,
- 57:18I think you could save the world.
- 57:20But that is my sister-in-law.
- 57:22People watch it and at this point, she's literally just like, I can't watch it because everyone
- 57:26else is watching it.
- 57:27I'm like, okay, you fucking have a stir.
- 57:28I love you.
- 57:29But also watch the damn show.
- 57:32Yeah.
- 57:33I feel like if you are one of those people, House of the Dragon is a really great one to watch.
- 57:39You do not have to have seen Game of Thrones.
- 57:42Exactly.
- 57:43Like we said, it's 200 years in the future.
- 57:46And they're-- Game of Thrones is too long.
- 57:50I guess you were saying the same thing.
- 57:53Yeah.
- 57:54So you don't have to have seen Game of Thrones to know what happens.
- 57:57I think it's a good example of the show.
- 58:01The books are amazing.
- 58:02We're going to be praying when it comes out before good old George R.R. Martin dies.
- 58:07He's your G.
- 58:08Does he have any kids?
- 58:10Maybe he's kiddos, really.
- 58:11I think he does.
- 58:12I think you do remember his good.
- 58:14Yeah.
- 58:15But then it has the Dune treatment, right?
- 58:16It could get bad.
- 58:17It could get bad.
- 58:18I want him to finish the books.
- 58:20Yeah.
- 58:21I don't want him to be like his son or someone else.
- 58:22They do start getting weird in the Dune books once the kids take over.
- 58:26Yeah.
- 58:27And so I'm so excited.
- 58:29I think that we'll continue to read all the fantasy, talk about the shows that are getting
- 58:36adapted from it.
- 58:37Yeah, I agree.
- 58:39And if there is anything in this episode, like if you are a die hard fan of this universe
- 58:44and we messed up somewhere in the episode, give us some grace.
- 58:47But don't show it.
- 58:48Let us know.
- 58:49Yeah.
- 58:50Give us a five star review and let us know in that review that we got something wrong.
- 58:54But the five stars is the most important part.
- 58:57The five star is the important part.
- 58:58Yeah.
- 58:59Exactly.
- 59:00Oh, I love it.
- 59:02Well, that was almost as long as an episode as one of these books that we've been talking
- 59:07about for so long.
- 59:08Should we end the episode in some murder or some sex or something then?
- 59:12Oh, I think with a little blood magic.
- 59:15Okay.
