- 0:07Speaker 2: We're gonna be there on Monday.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Today We're at chickis and peatz Go where the players
- 0:12Speaker 1: go chickens and peats right here at the Tropicana in
- 0:15Speaker 1: Atlantic City. Big night tonight, Flyers back in action taking
- 0:19Speaker 1: on the Ottawa Senators. You can listen to that game
- 0:21Speaker 1: on our sister station Rock one O four to one.
- 0:24Speaker 1: The NFL is back in action tonight. Interesting game, Minnesota
- 0:28Speaker 1: takes on the Chargers, and of course a great college
- 0:32Speaker 1: football weekend. I'm looking forward to Vanderbilton, Missouri this weekend.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Indiana takes on UCLA. Got a lot of college football,
- 0:39Speaker 1: and then of course the NFL. The Eagles take on
- 0:42Speaker 1: the Giants. We're looking at that game right now for
- 0:45Speaker 1: Football at four. Andrew to Checho from the Inside the
- 0:49Speaker 1: Birds podcast. Inside the Birds dot Com is back with
- 0:52Speaker 1: the matchups to watch for this weekend's game Eagles, Giants
- 0:56Speaker 1: and Andrew.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Good to have you back, man. What's going on.
- 1:00Speaker 3: I'm doing well, Mike car are you.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Always good to catch up with you Eagles Giants.
- 1:04Speaker 1: The last time we talked about this particular game, I
- 1:07Speaker 1: don't think many people thought that this was going to
- 1:10Speaker 1: be much of a game. Is this game a little
- 1:13Speaker 1: bit more eye opening now? Is this Giants team a
- 1:16Speaker 1: threat to come into Philadelphia and sweep the Eagles this year?
- 1:22Speaker 3: Mike, I would be shocked if that happened a second time.
- 1:24Speaker 3: I don't know that anyone could have expected the Eagles
- 1:27Speaker 3: to get out muscled by the Giants on Thursday Night football,
- 1:31Speaker 3: but I have to imagine, and you know, just kind
- 1:34Speaker 3: of gauging the temperature check, it certainly seems like this
- 1:37Speaker 3: team's focused and ready to get after it. The Giants
- 1:41Speaker 3: don't have a wealth of options offensively. They have Jackson Dart,
- 1:45Speaker 3: who I think is a bright young quarterback. Cam Scativo
- 1:49Speaker 3: has a physical running style, but outside of that, they
- 1:52Speaker 3: don't have a ton of optionality at the skill position.
- 1:56Speaker 3: At the Washever specifically little Jordan Humphrey Wandell rob had
- 2:00Speaker 3: a nice game against the Eagles a thirty five yard touchdown,
- 2:04Speaker 3: and they could have Darius Slayton back for this one.
- 2:08Speaker 3: But I think that this defense should really be able
- 2:10Speaker 3: to get after it and the addition of Kobe Dean
- 2:12Speaker 3: into the defense should help the run defense be able
- 2:16Speaker 3: to bottle up and contain camp Scatabow and then from
- 2:19Speaker 3: the on the other side of the ball, I think
- 2:22Speaker 3: that the Eagles can certainly build off of what they
- 2:24Speaker 3: were able to do against the Minnesota Vikings, particularly as
- 2:27Speaker 3: it pertains the throwing the football.
- 2:29Speaker 2: You know, Andrew, I agree.
- 2:31Speaker 1: I think last time we all looked at their offense
- 2:32Speaker 1: in the like, I don't see how they moved the ball,
- 2:34Speaker 1: how they challenged, But how does this offense of the
- 2:37Speaker 1: Giants what they did last time? I thought it stood
- 2:39Speaker 1: out was they out physicaled you. They out muscled you. Right,
- 2:43Speaker 1: they pushed the Eagles all over the place. Why should
- 2:46Speaker 1: we think the Eagles defense is different this time around.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Well, they could have Jalen Carr. I mean they're going
- 2:53Speaker 3: to have Jalen Carter, which is he didn't play in
- 2:56Speaker 3: that first matchup. They're gonna have Quinyon Mitchell, They're going
- 3:00Speaker 3: to have Nakobe Dean playing defense this time around. He
- 3:03Speaker 3: played six maps in the first matchup against the Giants,
- 3:07Speaker 3: So you're adding some key pieces. I do believe that
- 3:10Speaker 3: Jalen Carter, he's the one who gets things going up front.
- 3:13Speaker 3: He's a physical presence. He lives behind the line of scrimmage.
- 3:16Speaker 3: That hit that he put on Carson once that resulted
- 3:18Speaker 3: in the Jaylas Hunt pick six rattle wentz to the
- 3:21Speaker 3: point where I think that changed the way that he
- 3:24Speaker 3: was playing the rest of the game. But Nakobe Dean
- 3:27Speaker 3: and I want to circle back to something that I
- 3:29Speaker 3: mentioned earlier on. He is a tone setter. He brings
- 3:32Speaker 3: a lot of energy and when he's out there on
- 3:36Speaker 3: the field, he really can find waste a knife into
- 3:40Speaker 3: the backfield and pop running backs for a loss. He
- 3:42Speaker 3: did that to Xavier Scott for a four yard loss.
- 3:45Speaker 3: And the Eagles tend to really thrive off of na
- 3:49Speaker 3: Kobe's energy. And he's a natural born leader. And I
- 3:51Speaker 3: think when you bring in somebody like that who is
- 3:53Speaker 3: really adept to stop in the run, you're arming yourself
- 3:56Speaker 3: with better personnel equipped to handle it.
- 4:00Speaker 1: To check out football at four, what does Dean bring
- 4:02Speaker 1: to the defense and how does it change the defense
- 4:06Speaker 1: and the role of Johide Campbell. Can you play those
- 4:08Speaker 1: two guys together, they have to pick one over the other.
- 4:12Speaker 1: How do you see that kind of materializing here?
- 4:16Speaker 3: Yeah, he brings leadership, toughness, tenacity, and an understanding of
- 4:21Speaker 3: what the defense wants to be and what they need
- 4:23Speaker 3: to be. That they've they've got their swagger back after
- 4:27Speaker 3: losing it seemingly against the Giants and Thursday Night Football
- 4:30Speaker 3: once Dean was back on the field. Defensively, he's vocal,
- 4:35Speaker 3: he's highly intelligent, and his football intelligence is off the charts.
- 4:38Speaker 3: And I go back to what I said last season,
- 4:41Speaker 3: he was the heartbeat of that defense. So to have
- 4:43Speaker 3: him out there, I thought made a noticeable improvement. But
- 4:47Speaker 3: the Eagles have sort of a conundrum there at linebacker.
- 4:49Speaker 3: Johat Campbell's played very well at off ball linebacker just
- 4:53Speaker 3: you know, for the first six games really, and he
- 4:57Speaker 3: played a lot of edge in weeks in his seventh game,
- 5:00Speaker 3: but they he did that out of necessity and it
- 5:04Speaker 3: worked out because Eagles were able to get Nacobe on
- 5:06Speaker 3: the field for thirty one snaps primarily when they were
- 5:09Speaker 3: in base and Campbell also saw some you know, factored
- 5:14Speaker 3: into the equation and help the defense. But that works
- 5:17Speaker 3: for the short term and the long term that's going
- 5:18Speaker 3: to be a little bit problematic because then you're going
- 5:21Speaker 3: to have Brandon Graham in the fold. Nolan Smith will
- 5:24Speaker 3: be returning at some point in November, and if they
- 5:26Speaker 3: trade for a player, well then you're all right there
- 5:29Speaker 3: at edge and you have enough bodies to absorb those snaps.
- 5:32Speaker 3: But then the question becomes, how do you allocate snaps
- 5:35Speaker 3: at linebacker? I think the Eagles have to keep your
- 5:38Speaker 3: high Campbell on the field. You don't want to stunt
- 5:40Speaker 3: a rookie's growth who's made tangible strides each and every week.
- 5:44Speaker 3: But I think situationally you can make an exception because
- 5:47Speaker 3: of na Kobe's ability to defend the run and blitz
- 5:52Speaker 3: and do certain things, especially in the goal line and
- 5:54Speaker 3: short yarded situations. I think that because of the talent
- 5:57Speaker 3: that those three players have, maybe you are able to
- 6:00Speaker 3: make a little bit more of an exception. But I
- 6:02Speaker 3: can't really see Na Kobe Dean there being room for
- 6:04Speaker 3: him to play more than thirty or so snaps in
- 6:07Speaker 3: any game.
- 6:08Speaker 2: No answer.
- 6:08Speaker 1: You're a guy who obviously studies the draft really well.
- 6:11Speaker 1: When you looked at Jahad Campbell coming in, is he
- 6:13Speaker 1: a guy that you think can rush the passer at
- 6:17Speaker 1: this level?
- 6:19Speaker 3: Yes, But I was never under the assumption that that
- 6:22Speaker 3: was going to happen immediately. I personally scattered him as
- 6:26Speaker 3: an off ball linebacker with edge flexibility. But I think
- 6:31Speaker 3: that that's somebody's going to have to grow into and experience,
- 6:34Speaker 3: but also in developing his frame and getting stronger and
- 6:38Speaker 3: things like that. He's doing it on the fly at
- 6:40Speaker 3: a necessity because the Eagles need him to. But I
- 6:42Speaker 3: think right now, Mike, he's an off ball linebacker. He
- 6:45Speaker 3: has the instincts, the range, the coverage acumen, his ability
- 6:48Speaker 3: to be able to carry running backs up the sideline
- 6:51Speaker 3: and defend tight ends. You can see his length and
- 6:53Speaker 3: how that affects and narrows throwing windows. That's really what
- 6:57Speaker 3: he's equipped to do right now. But that's not to
- 6:59Speaker 3: say that down the line he won't be an effective
- 7:01Speaker 3: edge rusher. I think that was very much part of
- 7:03Speaker 3: the appeal of when the Eagles draft room, having that
- 7:06Speaker 3: multifaceted skill set.
- 7:07Speaker 1: All right, you talked about edge rusher. They brought in
- 7:09Speaker 1: an ed rusher. It's an old friend, Brandon Graham. What
- 7:12Speaker 1: does he bring in your mind? How do they use him?
- 7:16Speaker 1: Obviously he is a guy who brings a lot of energy,
- 7:19Speaker 1: But is Brandon Graham the fix for some of the
- 7:22Speaker 1: past rushing problems.
- 7:25Speaker 3: Well, he brings leadership. He brings institutional knowledge and the
- 7:28Speaker 3: ability to impart wisdom on players of you who are
- 7:33Speaker 3: younger and players who are older. He's just a locker
- 7:36Speaker 3: room pillar and a very positive influence. But you couple
- 7:40Speaker 3: that with someone who is a good run defender. The
- 7:42Speaker 3: last time we saw Brandon Graham, well, I guess really
- 7:45Speaker 3: it was week twelve when he tour his tricep. That
- 7:48Speaker 3: was his best game of the season by far, making
- 7:50Speaker 3: plays behind the line of scrimmage and just all over
- 7:53Speaker 3: the field. And then he came back for in time
- 7:56Speaker 3: for the Super Bowl retore it and he said that
- 7:58Speaker 3: he feels like it never happened. He feels very good.
- 8:02Speaker 3: But I think he brings someone who does believe it.
- 8:05Speaker 3: He knows that he's comfortable in his ability stayed in shape. Now, realistically,
- 8:10Speaker 3: you have to look at the snaps. I think once
- 8:13Speaker 3: you get the first game out of the way, fifteen
- 8:15Speaker 3: twenty snaps will be realistic and it should compliment what
- 8:19Speaker 3: the Eagles already have. You don't bring back Brandon Graham
- 8:22Speaker 3: and expect him to all of a sudden front your
- 8:24Speaker 3: edge rusher group, but rather to boaster it and provide
- 8:27Speaker 3: capable play, and you couple that with his ability to
- 8:31Speaker 3: be a really really prominent figure in the locker room,
- 8:35Speaker 3: that that's going to be worth it's you know, it's
- 8:36Speaker 3: gonna be worth its weight, man. And I just think
- 8:39Speaker 3: that he has a lot to offer, but expectations should
- 8:42Speaker 3: be tempered because he's thirty seven years old, he had
- 8:45Speaker 3: two tricep injuries, and you have to give it time
- 8:48Speaker 3: to see what he's able to do from a conditioning
- 8:51Speaker 3: standpoint and things like that. Mcvangiel mentioned retention and football
- 8:55Speaker 3: shape contact shape as being the two factors he was
- 8:58Speaker 3: going to look at in determining how much and how
- 9:01Speaker 3: soon Graham could Graham could help his defense.
- 9:03Speaker 1: All right, we're talking with Andrew to checko football for
- 9:05Speaker 1: a couple more with him as the Eagles get ready
- 9:07Speaker 1: for the Giants. We talked about last time the Giants
- 9:10Speaker 1: whipped him, the Eagles offensive line.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Got whipped as well.
- 9:13Speaker 1: They lost the battle up front, and he's been losing
- 9:15Speaker 1: the battle essentially every single week. They have been out
- 9:18Speaker 1: gained in every single game this season. Do you look
- 9:23Speaker 1: at this offensive line, is it something that can be
- 9:26Speaker 1: fixed or is this going to be a constant issue,
- 9:28Speaker 1: not only this week, but for the rest of the season.
- 9:31Speaker 3: Well, it'll be a constant issue until they're able to
- 9:34Speaker 3: be as close to full strength as possible. The bye
- 9:37Speaker 3: week should certainly help. And if Cam Jurgens, let's say,
- 9:41Speaker 3: can't play this week and it's trending towards that, well,
- 9:44Speaker 3: I mean that would give him some time to get
- 9:47Speaker 3: off his feet and rest a little bit recover. Landon
- 9:50Speaker 3: Dickerson as well, he sorely needs to have some time
- 9:54Speaker 3: to really rest because he's been battling through a lot
- 9:57Speaker 3: of things. But when they're able to do that, when
- 9:59Speaker 3: they're able to get as close to full strength, you'll
- 10:01Speaker 3: start to see the offense take shape and and be
- 10:05Speaker 3: a little bit more balanced, run the football more effectively,
- 10:08Speaker 3: and be able to really blow teams off the ball
- 10:11Speaker 3: and revert back to that bullie ball style that they
- 10:14Speaker 3: want to be. I do think it can happen, but
- 10:16Speaker 3: I don't know that they can get to full strength
- 10:18Speaker 3: because there's not enough time in the season, even with
- 10:21Speaker 3: the buy to really give afford them. Know the period
- 10:25Speaker 3: of time they're going to need to to heal up.
- 10:28Speaker 3: It's gonna be probably a grind. But the bye week
- 10:32Speaker 3: certainly comes at a good time where they can have
- 10:34Speaker 3: a little bit of a little bit of a lull.
- 10:37Speaker 1: How would you handle if Batola, if Jurgens can't play,
- 10:43Speaker 1: what's the best situation for the offensive line that in your.
- 10:46Speaker 3: Mind, I would probably just given the matchup with Dexter
- 10:50Speaker 3: Larne being a physical player at the heart of that
- 10:52Speaker 3: Giants defensive line, you would probably want to kick Lennon
- 10:56Speaker 3: Dickerson from left guard to center and put Brett Toth
- 10:58Speaker 3: at left guard. Now, I say that, but historically Jess
- 11:02Speaker 3: Allen doesn't like to alter multiple positions for continuity purposes,
- 11:05Speaker 3: So you could also look at it and say, why
- 11:07Speaker 3: not just keep Brett Toth at center and Landing at guard?
- 11:10Speaker 3: Because if you remember back to the first Giants matchup,
- 11:13Speaker 3: when Brett Toa started the game at left guard, Jordan
- 11:16Speaker 3: my Lapa that didn't necessarily have his best game, and
- 11:18Speaker 3: I think a lot of that was because he was
- 11:21Speaker 3: trying to help Toth on that left side a little bit.
- 11:25Speaker 3: So there are a lot of things to consider. Matt
- 11:27Speaker 3: Pryor wouldn't be someone who I would imagine would be
- 11:31Speaker 3: considered because he's more of a right side guy. That's
- 11:33Speaker 3: where the Eagles have really utilized him in training camp,
- 11:37Speaker 3: so that that would really be it. And then Drew.
- 11:39Speaker 3: Kendall's a rookie center and he played in just one
- 11:42Speaker 3: game this season, just three snaps. I think that was
- 11:44Speaker 3: the Giants game where Landon didn't play. So he's not
- 11:48Speaker 3: going to be someone that you can really count on
- 11:50Speaker 3: at this time, though Nick Sirianni seemed bullish on his progress.
- 11:54Speaker 3: So to me, the logical choice is Brett Toath. I
- 11:58Speaker 3: would keep Brett toe at left guard.
- 12:00Speaker 1: I'll just say, we'll see if they I you know,
- 12:02Speaker 1: I was interested to see if they knew Jurgons would
- 12:07Speaker 1: be out, if they would make a change instead of
- 12:09Speaker 1: just because you know, obviously Toath is more comfortable at
- 12:11Speaker 1: playing guard than he is at center.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Uh, So we'll see exactly, yeah, and we'll see if.
- 12:15Speaker 1: They make that flip or I don't know, do you
- 12:17Speaker 1: think Kendall if they know he's gonna play, or is
- 12:20Speaker 1: he just not ready in your mind?
- 12:23Speaker 3: I don't know that he's ready, okay, And if he were,
- 12:26Speaker 3: he would be an immediate reserve on game day. He's
- 12:29Speaker 3: he's imagine.
- 12:30Speaker 1: The reason he's not a reserve now is because he
- 12:32Speaker 1: only plays center right, Well, he plays.
- 12:35Speaker 3: Guard too, but he's he's a center by trade, but
- 12:38Speaker 3: he does offer some some guard versatility, which we saw
- 12:41Speaker 3: in the preseason. But yeah, I mean, I just don't
- 12:44Speaker 3: get the sense that he would be in the mix.
- 12:45Speaker 3: It would either be Toath or Dickerson, you know, being
- 12:49Speaker 3: you know, fulfilling the role as the center and then
- 12:51Speaker 3: the other one as the guard. They really like Brett
- 12:53Speaker 3: Toath and they've worked with him for a number of
- 12:55Speaker 3: years and that is their their most logical option. They
- 12:58Speaker 3: don't have a lot there in terms of veteran depth
- 13:02Speaker 3: that they can hang their hat on, so that that's
- 13:04Speaker 3: kind of going.
- 13:04Speaker 2: To be there.
- 13:05Speaker 3: They're pairing. They're a little limited there.
- 13:08Speaker 1: All right, we'll get you out on this. Andrew de
- 13:09Speaker 1: Checko's thought on this game. The Giants won the game handily.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Last on, that game wasn't competitive for the most part.
- 13:15Speaker 1: They beat you up, up and down the field. Uh,
- 13:18Speaker 1: you said at the beginning, you would be shocked to
- 13:20Speaker 1: kind of to see a repeat of that. Overall, though,
- 13:25Speaker 1: Is Philadelphia's offense the reason why they win this game
- 13:28Speaker 1: or does their defense figure it out and just stifle
- 13:31Speaker 1: the Giants?
- 13:34Speaker 3: I think their defense is really going to rise to
- 13:36Speaker 3: the occasion here. I think they're gonna take what what
- 13:38Speaker 3: happened personally, not only meet their physicality, but exceed the
- 13:41Speaker 3: Giants physicality and and almost make a point that you're
- 13:45Speaker 3: not gonna come into linking financial field and and do
- 13:48Speaker 3: what you did to you know, to them and at MetLife.
- 13:52Speaker 3: So yeah, I feel like you're gonna see them play
- 13:54Speaker 3: with the chip on their shoulder. And again I revert
- 13:57Speaker 3: back to leaders inherent, leaders like Brandon.
- 14:01Speaker 2: Graham and Ni Kobe Dean.
- 14:03Speaker 3: Being a big difference in this. Even if Brandon doesn't
- 14:06Speaker 3: play in this game, I just think that he's going
- 14:07Speaker 3: to be somebody that gets guys going, gets the energy flowing,
- 14:11Speaker 3: and then the Kobe on the field really setting the tone.
- 14:15Speaker 1: All that.
- 14:15Speaker 3: You couple that with having Jalen Carter and a healthy
- 14:19Speaker 3: Quinion Mitchell. I think that's a recipe for success.
- 14:21Speaker 1: All right, there's Andrew to checko his thought on the
- 14:23Speaker 1: Eagles and Giants. You can listen to the game right
- 14:25Speaker 1: here on ninety seven three ESPN this weekend. Merril Reech
- 14:28Speaker 1: might quick have the call. The cover starts at noon
- 14:30Speaker 1: to kick off that one. Andrew, Thanks man, Thanks Mike,
- 14:34Speaker 1: well football at For tomorrow, Adam Kaplan will get you
- 14:37Speaker 1: all the matchups and the injury report will have that
- 14:39Speaker 1: for you here on the Sports Bass
