- 0:06All right, let's do it third hour morning show with Preston, Scott and
- 0:09Preston. That's Grant. Good to be with you. Hope you had a
- 0:12nice Thanksgiving holiday. It's time to talk a little IFSU football and isn't it
- 0:17fun to still be talking football? Irischavelle joins us managing editor at war chan
- 0:22dot com. Hello, Ira, Hey Preston, how you doing good?
- 0:26You make it out of Gainesville without your car being keyed? Yeah? I
- 0:31did. I don't think there was. I didn't have any no flags on
- 0:34the car, so I think I was okay. Yeah, but you probably
- 0:36had a Leon County tag on your on your plate, so you know,
- 0:42I survived the trip. And like you said, you know, the Noles
- 0:46are twelve and zero and it's it's good times. What was your takeaway from
- 0:50that game? Uh, you know, I think it was impressive, the
- 0:55fact that they kind of weathered the storm. I mean, I think the
- 0:57first half was kind of a everything that could go wrong went wrong. I
- 1:00have Florida State got, you know, just poor field position. You've got
- 1:03a first year starting quarterback, first time starting quarterback, or a guy who
- 1:07hasn't started four years. He was backed up, had some bad situations he
- 1:11was facing. Florida's crowd was into it. They're trying to upset your season.
- 1:17Their quarterback made a couple of big throws early, which I'm sure gave
- 1:19him some confidence. So it just felt like everything was lining up for Florida
- 1:23to pull off the upset. And I give official a lot of credit for
- 1:26fighting through that, getting that score before halftime, and then really dominating the
- 1:30whole second half. I was going to say they scored one touchdown and that
- 1:34was a gift based on a phantom Has the acc offered an explanation for that
- 1:40ridiculous call, not that we've heard yet. Mike Norvell is going to talk
- 1:44to the media today about eleven thirty, so that'll be one of the questions
- 1:47we asked because that was it was an all timer, and the way the
- 1:51referees took Mike Norvell's berating on the sideline makes me think they know it was
- 1:56a terrible call. But I guess once they throw the flag they felt like
- 1:59they take it back. Yeah, but officiating cruise take back flags all the
- 2:04time. I mean, they pick him up, they go, no,
- 2:06you know, he didn't hit him unfairly, He didn't target him. He
- 2:08didn't fall with his weight on him. I mean, and we've seen that
- 2:12this season already. Yeah, there's really nothing you can There's no explanation.
- 2:15I think I've even had some people ask if was it really on the hit?
- 2:20Maybe it was somewhere else, but it was clearly on the hit.
- 2:22It was thrown at That's where the flag was thrown. And I just think
- 2:25that they whoever saw it thought he assumed he got hit in the head,
- 2:30but they didn't even call that. They didn't call targeting. If they had
- 2:31call targeting, they could have reviewed it and realized it wasn't. They just
- 2:36called a just a general personal foul. It's tough to be critical of a
- 2:40twelve and ohero team, but you and I both know they haven't played great
- 2:45football for a while now. It's not just a Jordan Travis thing. They've
- 2:50been off a little bit. I look at the play calling on Saturday night
- 2:54and I just thought all night long, two things I texted you once out
- 2:58of sheer frustration. Is Tate Rodimaker ever going to be allowed to run the
- 3:01football because that was there all night and you have to let him do it
- 3:06if he's going to play quarterback number two. It seemed as though they were
- 3:09just trying to keep him from not losing the game versus letting him throw the
- 3:14football. They were just so conservative, Yeah, they were, And I
- 3:19think that that bit them because I think Florida expected that. And I think
- 3:23Florida really, you know, they were very aggressive on the underneath passes,
- 3:28hitches. They almost picked off a screen pass, which it can only happen
- 3:30if you're if you're really being super aggressive. I thought Floridas, say,
- 3:34could have hit some deeper shots, you know, and they the only ones
- 3:38they took were very you know, kind of low percentage, just kind of
- 3:39jump all type passes. So yeah, but I also think Mike Norvell thought
- 3:45our defense is so good that Florida's not going to score a bunch of points
- 3:49with their quarterback, and the running game is good enough that let's just let's
- 3:53just win an ugly game. Like I think that was their mindset. But
- 3:57let's not take any chances. We're not trying to win by third. We
- 4:00just want to get the win and not let you know, look the one
- 4:03knock on Tate Ronnamakers a quarterback, he obviously can throw it. The big
- 4:06question is will he make the big mistake and they avoided that, so they
- 4:11got out with no interceptions. So I think from that standpoint, that was
- 4:14successful. As far as why he didn't run the ball, that also will
- 4:16be a question we asked today. We're gonna speak with Mike Norvell and also
- 4:20offensive coordinator Alex Atkins. Yeah, whether or not that's Tate just not wanting
- 4:26to in the moment, or if that was a straight run calls. You
- 4:30know, we don't know. What's hard to know is because of his first
- 4:31start, how much was predetermined and how much flexibility he had at the line
- 4:36of scrimmage. We tweet at WFLA FM. As mayor of Reelville, he
- 4:43offers a state of the Nation every single day. This is the Morning Show
- 4:46with Preston Scott. Eleven minutes after the hour hours ship fell with us from
- 4:56warchan dot com our little post mortem on the Florida Florida State game. Just
- 5:00a second longer. I offered Florida fans my commentary that when I watch Florida
- 5:05right now, I see Willie Taggert, I see an undisciplined team. I
- 5:10see a team that should be better than it is, and I think they
- 5:13got to find themselves a new head coach. You know, talking to some
- 5:16of the media that cover Florida and a couple of my friends who are fans,
- 5:19they feel the same way. So to me, the biggest problem is
- 5:23the dis the lack of discipline. I mean when Florida they went down there
- 5:26two years ago, that Florida team was very chippy, try to start a
- 5:29lot of fights, did a lot of shilly stuff. And I thought,
- 5:31okay, well, they had an interim head coach at the time two years
- 5:34hunder Billy Napier to do the things they did. I mean, they cost
- 5:38themselves the game. The one kid spitting in a player's face, I mean,
- 5:42first of all, it's terrible. Second of all, it was a
- 5:44huge play that led to a Florida State scoring drive. Then also, you
- 5:47know the player Tate slides four yards short of the first down. You not
- 5:51have one guy make a mistake, give two guys dive it them. It's
- 5:55just really an undisciplined team, and that's gonna be one of the big things.
- 6:00Space and Billy Napier. All right, let's look ahead. We've got
- 6:02Louisville. But I've been asked this question by a listener, and I'm going
- 6:06to kind of paraphrase it and ask you, can this FSU team do anything
- 6:13other than beat Louisville with some style points to make the Final four? Yeah?
- 6:17I don't think they even have to do crazy style points. I mean,
- 6:20I get that the talking heads are on ESPN or making a big story
- 6:25about Florid State getting passed over by these one lost teams. But I think
- 6:28the College Football Playoffs Committee, you know, I think they respect Florida State.
- 6:32I think if Florida State wins the ACC, they're a Power five champion,
- 6:36they're undefeated. As long as they don't look terrible in this game,
- 6:40I think they've got a really good chance of getting in. I don't think
- 6:43they'll be left out of the thirteen. I could be wrong, but I
- 6:46believe they'll get in. I also believe heading into this game that we might
- 6:49see because they've got the game in the rearview mirror against their arch rival Florida.
- 6:56And I heard you and Corey talk about it in the post game.
- 6:59If you had to one, if you had to beat Louisville and win the
- 7:01ACC title or beat Florida, if you could only win one of those games,
- 7:05I agree with you. I think Florida is the game you had to
- 7:08win. But now that they've done that, I think they're poised to play
- 7:11well if they take the change off Tate Rodmaker. They got to let him
- 7:15play quarterback. I'm with you. I think they should go into this game
- 7:18very loose and free, because look, there's nothing they really have nothing to
- 7:23lose. At this point. You know, you're you want to get into
- 7:26the College Fowl, the whole playoff. That's huge, that's awesome, But
- 7:30the reality is, I mean, you're a point now where you're not you're
- 7:33not protecting anything anything anymore. Like late in the season, you know you're
- 7:36playing Miami, you're playing Florida. It felt like you're trying to protect this
- 7:41perfect season. At this point now, I think you let it all hang
- 7:44out. I think that they, you know, should feel free going into
- 7:47this game, and I think you may see Floresta they play really well.
- 7:50And I agree with you. I think if you let Tate Ronimaker play freely,
- 7:54I think he'll make a ton of big plays. He might make a
- 7:57mistake or two, but I think the offense would look a hole lot better.
- 8:00Overall. There's one troubling thing I want to get your opinion on.
- 8:05I feel as though I'm watching Keon Coleman dogg it on some plays on the
- 8:09field. I see him not blocking downfield. Sometimes I see him kind of
- 8:13giving half effort on some routes, and I'm a little alarmed by that.
- 8:20Yeah, I guess that. You know, it came across on TV more
- 8:22than it did live. I've had a couple of people ask me about that.
- 8:26There was one play, you know, the one play where he didn't
- 8:28block, which could have been a really nice run. Was was you know,
- 8:33a problem some of the routes. It's hard to say, Like I
- 8:35get, I've talked to the coaches about this on this staff before. There
- 8:39are times that happens where receivers, you know, not just him, other
- 8:43receivers what based on the coverage and they know where the quarterback's usually going to
- 8:48go. They just know the ball is not coming to them, so they
- 8:50may not give full effort when they're you know, they're running fifty snaps.
- 8:54It's basically gassers. You know, they're running forty fifty yards every time.
- 8:56Sometimes guys will take a playoff here there if they they just look at this
- 9:01coverage and say, Okay, there's no way he's coming my way. But
- 9:05you know, you get burned sometimes when you do that, so I'm sure
- 9:07it'll be addressed this week. The problem is he's still an incredible talent hee
- 9:11game ye, So it's not like you can just sit him. So that'll
- 9:16be a challenge for the coaching staff. When it's all said and done,
- 9:18what do you expect to see Saturday night up in Charlotte. I think Florida
- 9:24State' is gonna win. I think the I think they're gonna play really well.
- 9:28I think Louisville's a solid team, but I don't think they're a great
- 9:30team, and I don't think they faced the same caliber competition they kind of.
- 9:35You know, they have a couple of nice Wednesday did win an NC
- 9:37State, which is impressive, but I think that was at a time where
- 9:39NC State wasn't playing the way they are now. They beat Notre Dame in
- 9:43a game where Notre Dame played poorly, so we'll see. I mean,
- 9:46I just think Florid State's a little more battle tested and if they've got a
- 9:50little bit more juice in the tank, which I think they do, I
- 9:52think Florida State is gonna win the game. Did they come out of Florida
- 9:56healthy? I think for the most part. Yeah. I think going into
- 10:01it, there were a couple of guys we were questioning about, ERNARDA.
- 10:03Green and Jalen de Loach. They both played great, and I think the
- 10:07offensive line still wanting to see maybe if they can get Blessed Harris or Robert
- 10:11Scott back in the line. They did not play. They were suited out
- 10:13up. If they could get one of those guys back in, I think
- 10:16it would be a big help. But yeah, overall, I think they
- 10:18came out pretty well. Iras always, thank you. We'll talk again next
- 10:22Monday. Appreciate it Forrest and thanks a lot. Thank you. Iras Chapelle
