- 0:57Speaker 1: There will be no recap for The Way Home tomorrow
- 1:00Speaker 1: because there was no new episode of the Way Home
- 1:03Speaker 1: due to the Super Bowl. You can catch up on
- 1:05Speaker 1: our previous recaps if you haven't listened to those, or
- 1:08Speaker 1: you can hop on over to our other podcast, which
- 1:10Speaker 1: is Long Story Short with Megan and Wendy. Let's do
- 1:14Speaker 1: some Hallmark news and notes. Okay, speaking of Hallmark original series,
- 1:18Speaker 1: we got a premier date for the Hallmark's next original series.
- 1:21Speaker 1: They're churning them out. The series is called Ride. It's
- 1:24Speaker 1: about a rodeo dynasty family. Well. I remember when this
- 1:28Speaker 1: was announced months ago and I was like, Oh, is
- 1:32Speaker 1: this gonna be like Yellowstone for hallmart And I had
- 1:35Speaker 1: completely forgotten about it, as had I until we got
- 1:38Speaker 1: a release date. It's going to come right on the
- 1:41Speaker 1: heels of the Way Home. It literally immediately after The
- 1:45Speaker 1: Way Home is actually airing an hour early that night
- 1:48Speaker 1: like their season finale. Yes, so March twenty six will
- 1:52Speaker 1: be the season finale at eight PM of The Way
- 1:54Speaker 1: Home and at nine pm the new original series Ride
- 1:58Speaker 1: will air. I think that's smart to air them back
- 2:00Speaker 1: to back because they've got those Way Home watchers. Yeah,
- 2:03Speaker 1: I'm excited. Are we reviewing? We've not made a we've
- 2:07Speaker 1: not made a commitment.
- 2:08Speaker 3: How do you feel about that?
- 2:10Speaker 1: Let's ask the listeners how they feel about it. Do
- 2:12Speaker 1: you guys want us to recap Ride the way that
- 2:16Speaker 1: we recap The Way Home? Email us Megan Andwindy at
- 2:20Speaker 1: gmail dot com or jump into our dms.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Vote in the Facebook group.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Yeah. Her Sleepy Kitty pop on Twitter. Tamara Maori Housley
- 2:30Speaker 1: is set to start in a new Hallmark film called
- 2:34Speaker 1: Dream Moms, which is directed by Jessica Harmon, who is
- 2:39Speaker 1: the director of this movie we're reviewing today. Sleepy Kitty
- 2:43Speaker 1: Paw also reported the ratings for Curious Caterer Grilling Season,
- 2:48Speaker 1: which had one point eight three million viewers. It is
- 2:52Speaker 1: the second Hallmark movie is a mysteries movie for twenty
- 2:54Speaker 1: twenty three, but if you compare it to viewership from
- 2:57Speaker 1: twenty twenty two, it.
- 2:58Speaker 3: Would be in third place overall for all of.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Those Hallmark movies and mysteries movies. It does have higher
- 3:05Speaker 1: viewership than the first Curious Caterer movie, which is a
- 3:08Speaker 1: good sign. Yeah, I mean people like the franchise or whatever. Yeah,
- 3:11Speaker 1: speaking of viewership, sweeter than Chocolate Pulled and two point
- 3:15Speaker 1: zero two six million live viewers and zero point one
- 3:19Speaker 1: nine of the demo, which is big numbers. The only
- 3:23Speaker 1: thing ahead of it was sports and Fox News.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Wow.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean there are a lot of sports right now, basketball,
- 3:30Speaker 1: college basketball, all that crap. You know. All these movies
- 3:33Speaker 1: on a Hallmark channel hitting over two million is big time.
- 3:37Speaker 3: M M, big time. That's a wrap on news and notes.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I did have one small thing but it's like,
- 3:43Speaker 1: I don't even want to waste my breath about it.
- 3:45Speaker 1: But are you talking about Canad's Camera's podcast interview? Yes,
- 3:48Speaker 1: yes I am, Yeah, I don't want to waste my
- 3:51Speaker 1: breath on it. I'll leave a link to an article
- 3:54Speaker 1: we're talking about. Moving on, please, let's talk news and
- 3:58Speaker 1: notes on a Paris purpose.
- 4:00Speaker 3: Can you do a synopsis or isn't it.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Remember what came next? Oh my gosh, yes the synopsis.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Anna and Sebastian traveled to his hometown of Paris to
- 4:08Speaker 1: land and add account of famed Derond Diamonds and end
- 4:14Speaker 1: up in a tricky situation when the client mistakes them
- 4:16Speaker 1: for a happy couple. Starring Alexa PenaVega and Nicholas Bishop,
- 4:21Speaker 1: this was filmed on location in Paris as well as
- 4:24Speaker 1: in Bulgaria. They started in Bulgaria, moved to Paris and
- 4:27Speaker 1: as Wendy mentioned, you're headed to Paris.
- 4:30Speaker 3: So was that exciting? Yes?
- 4:32Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it got me excited for it.
- 4:35Speaker 3: I'm glad.
- 4:35Speaker 1: You know, I don't like the travels. I know, yeah,
- 4:37Speaker 1: this I was excited that it was actually shot on location.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Well you know, some of it, yeah, like the scenery
- 4:44Speaker 1: shots of course, okay. During November twenty twenty two, it
- 4:49Speaker 1: was filmed. I also read that Alexa Pennavega had to
- 4:53Speaker 1: leave her husband and three children behind for twenty three days.
- 4:58Speaker 3: I don't think that's that's bad.
- 5:02Speaker 1: This is me coming off of a weekend alone. Two guys.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Three weeks is a long time. I think there hits
- 5:08Speaker 1: a certain point of time. I think it's nice to
- 5:10Speaker 1: be able to focus on your work and to have
- 5:12Speaker 1: time to be just about you. But I do think
- 5:13Speaker 1: you hit a certain point and you're like, wow, I
- 5:15Speaker 1: really miss them. Yeah, but if you're doing like a
- 5:17Speaker 1: full fledged, like movie production, you're like gone longer than that, right,
- 5:23Speaker 1: like if you were in a mission Impossible twenty four
- 5:26Speaker 1: or whatever. Yeah, I've heard a lot of couples who
- 5:28Speaker 1: did I just hear talking about this. Emily Blunt and
- 5:32Speaker 1: oh yeah, that guy John Kirks kraft Kinsky. They basically
- 5:37Speaker 1: had said, like their goal is to only each of
- 5:40Speaker 1: them only be working one at a time, and then
- 5:42Speaker 1: the other can travel with them with their children if
- 5:44Speaker 1: they're gone.
- 5:44Speaker 3: For a long period of time.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Is that like on set school then for their children, Well,
- 5:50Speaker 1: he was saying they enroll them in school, like they
- 5:52Speaker 1: were in Australia or New Zealand and they just enrolled
- 5:55Speaker 1: their kids in school there for a few months. Nancy Right,
- 5:57Speaker 1: The Life of a Movie Star. Wow.
- 5:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Jessica Harmon directed this film. This is her fourteenth directing credit.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Others include Hallmark's Game Set Love and Rip in Time
- 6:07Speaker 1: Books from twenty twenty two. She also directed the CBS
- 6:10Speaker 1: Christmas movie Fit for Christmas last year. Oh and she
- 6:15Speaker 1: was also nominated for Outstanding Directorial Achievement by the Director's
- 6:20Speaker 1: Guild of Canada for the Lifetime drama One I've Seen
- 6:23Speaker 1: called Girl in the Shed, the kidnapping of Abby hernandez Ah.
- 6:27Speaker 1: I've watched it well. Speaking of my movies, writer Andrea
- 6:31Speaker 1: Canning wrote a Paris Proposal the screenplay, and her previous
- 6:37Speaker 1: Hallmark credits include Christmas Bedtime Stories, South Beach Love, and
- 6:41Speaker 1: Two for the Win, but also movies like The Perfect
- 6:44Speaker 1: Cheerleader and Home Killing Queen, which feels right up your alley.
- 6:47Speaker 1: They are, so that's interesting. I wonder if they know
- 6:50Speaker 1: each other from like crossover from those Lifetime movies. Now,
- 6:54Speaker 1: South Beach Love a movie you absolutely hated, if I
- 6:57Speaker 1: recall I didn't enjoy it. Yeah, Okay, go back and
- 7:01Speaker 1: listen to our It's actually a very popular episode of
- 7:06Speaker 1: this show. And I believe it was a popular movie.
- 7:10Speaker 1: But that episode continually gets listens a year plus later.
- 7:15Speaker 1: I think it's because it stars a very popular actress actor. Oh,
- 7:22Speaker 1: because he's popular in the telenovella world.
- 7:25Speaker 3: Exactly, exactly.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Okay, So A Paris Proposal does star Alexa Pennavega as Anna.
- 7:32Speaker 1: She last starred in Love in the Limelight from twenty
- 7:35Speaker 1: twenty two with her husband. We did not watch that movie.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Prior to that, she was in Taking a Shot at
- 7:41Speaker 1: Love from twenty twenty one. She is best known for
- 7:45Speaker 1: her role as Carmen Cortes from the Spy Kids franchise. Yes,
- 7:50Speaker 1: and what do we know about Nicholas Bishop? He plays
- 7:52Speaker 1: the bashion in this movie. He has twenty acting credits.
- 7:56Speaker 1: And I'm gonna be real honest, nothing I've ever heard
- 7:59Speaker 1: of You have never heard of industry on HBO. No.
- 8:03Speaker 1: When I was reading his like acting history, I hadn't
- 8:05Speaker 1: heard of anything else besides.
- 8:07Speaker 3: The HBO show.
- 8:08Speaker 1: But he's a full newcomer to Hollmark.
- 8:10Speaker 3: What's your first impression?
- 8:12Speaker 1: It started out shaky, but A Paris proposal might be
- 8:16Speaker 1: in my top five. Wow, like best ever for me?
- 8:19Speaker 1: Best ever? Yes, I don't know why, I know, I know.
- 8:22Speaker 1: I did a poll on our Instagram and I was
- 8:26Speaker 1: kind of shocked at like how lowly rated it was. Okay,
- 8:31Speaker 1: let's get into it. My first impression is the tagline
- 8:35Speaker 1: for the campaign should have been durand Diamonds are there
- 8:37Speaker 1: for the fairy tale and the happily ever after. That's
- 8:41Speaker 1: that's real good. Yeah, I know, And let me tell
- 8:43Speaker 1: you why. Wait, did you come up with that on
- 8:45Speaker 1: your own? Yes, because there's a scene in the movie
- 8:49Speaker 1: just after meeting with durand Diamonds and Gabriel, the bad
- 8:54Speaker 1: guy was like, we want to focus like outside of
- 8:56Speaker 1: the proposal, like you dirty Americans already care about the proposal.
- 9:00Speaker 1: And Sebastian and Anna are talking, and Anna's like, all
- 9:02Speaker 1: anybody ever talks about is the fairy tale. Nobody ever
- 9:05Speaker 1: talks about the happily ever after, Like that doesn't always happen.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Because she had what she thought was the fairy Traine
- 9:13Speaker 1: and I turned to my husband, who watched this movie
- 9:15Speaker 1: with me, and I said, the tagline should be here
- 9:18Speaker 1: for the fairy tale and the happily ever after. It
- 9:20Speaker 1: was a total missed opportunity because that's the.
- 9:23Speaker 3: Direction that they went with the campaign.
- 9:24Speaker 1: I'm gonna need you to make an ad campaign for
- 9:26Speaker 1: our Instagram this week. This is this new thing that
- 9:31Speaker 1: we've been doing that are like born out of these episodes.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Is really fun to me.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Oh good, I love it.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Yes, And that totally plays into like the owners, Yes,
- 9:42Speaker 1: I've been together for so long, and then ties into
- 9:45Speaker 1: the end scene that they now have their own happily
- 9:48Speaker 1: ever after. Yes, Yes, I hear you, good job me,
- 9:52Speaker 1: thank you? Man's available for ad lines? Or what are
- 9:57Speaker 1: the ad campaigns? You guys? Amazing? All right, let's talk
- 10:02Speaker 1: about what we liked about this movie. I have a
- 10:05Speaker 1: very luckless Oh, I cannot wait, I'll start, Okay. I
- 10:09Speaker 1: absolutely loved Alexa Pennavega.
- 10:11Speaker 3: Oh me too.
- 10:12Speaker 1: And I had read on Reddit yesterday that a lot
- 10:16Speaker 1: of people don't like her because she's too bubbly. Now,
- 10:19Speaker 1: I haven't seen her in anything other than taking a
- 10:21Speaker 1: shot at Love, and I love taking a shot out love.
- 10:24Speaker 1: We did, so I thought she's I liked her a lot,
- 10:30Speaker 1: and I did not find her too bubbly in this movie.
- 10:32Speaker 1: I didn't think so, and I wrote this down. I
- 10:36Speaker 1: think she delivers believable lines with the ease and likability,
- 10:40Speaker 1: like she was like someone. I was like, Okay, I
- 10:43Speaker 1: see that you're very I have the book sort of
- 10:47Speaker 1: like that kind of character, but you're also very fun
- 10:50Speaker 1: and you have all this little depth to like you're
- 10:52Speaker 1: struggling with this like divorce that she had, and she's
- 10:56Speaker 1: very guarded, and I just really liked her in this character.
- 11:02Speaker 3: Well.
- 11:02Speaker 1: I thought Anna and Sebastian had great chemistry, and the
- 11:06Speaker 1: kiss in the dress shop was steam itate, dude. I
- 11:09Speaker 1: wrote the same thing as I was watching this movie,
- 11:12Speaker 1: like as he goes this is costume jewelry, and I
- 11:15Speaker 1: was like, that's sweet. And then there was something so
- 11:18Speaker 1: sensual about the way that the necklace got pulled out
- 11:21Speaker 1: of the box and she has this very long hair
- 11:24Speaker 1: that she like moves and he like slowly drapes it
- 11:27Speaker 1: on her and she just whamo kiss. I was like,
- 11:32Speaker 1: I watched this movie alone on Saturday night and I
- 11:34Speaker 1: was like, that is the sexiest, steamiest scene I've ever
- 11:37Speaker 1: seen on a Hallmark movie. That was in percent agree,
- 11:39Speaker 1: So bravo to the director Jessica Harmon. Wow. I was
- 11:43Speaker 1: still these actors because they really sold it to me. Okay,
- 11:47Speaker 1: let me tell you stop you there, like I think
- 11:49Speaker 1: I might have told you off air. I thought her
- 11:52Speaker 1: husband was originally in this movie, and I kept going like,
- 11:54Speaker 1: is this her husband in real life? Like this the
- 11:57Speaker 1: nat star and movie right there in a lot of
- 11:59Speaker 1: MOVI together, and that would explain why this kiss seems
- 12:03Speaker 1: so steamy because they are an actual couple. But then
- 12:05Speaker 1: I realized, oh, no, that's not her husband. No, wow wow, yes,
- 12:11Speaker 1: and too our comment about Sebastian being new to a
- 12:13Speaker 1: Hallmark that's not his name to our comment about Nicholas
- 12:17Speaker 1: and Bishop being new to a Hallmark more Nicholas Bishop.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Please, I agree.
- 12:21Speaker 1: I thought he was a good actor. Yeah, I would
- 12:24Speaker 1: watch him in other movies for sure. For sure. The
- 12:28Speaker 1: writing in this movie had some real zinger of lines. Yeah,
- 12:32Speaker 1: that had me, elo Ellen, you were great and legally
- 12:35Speaker 1: blondelegally blonde. When she walked into that scene, I'm like, oh,
- 12:40Speaker 1: she's Elwoods And the fact that he did that line
- 12:43Speaker 1: a moment later loved it, so I didn't even realize
- 12:45Speaker 1: but she, yes, she was dressed head to toe and
- 12:47Speaker 1: like that pink like outfit or whatever. But and it
- 12:50Speaker 1: was such a throw the way he said it too
- 12:52Speaker 1: was such a throwaway, and I died. I thought it
- 12:56Speaker 1: was so funny. However, I have some comments in our
- 13:01Speaker 1: wished section, some lines about a broomstick, and I'm gonna
- 13:07Speaker 1: talk more about that, Okay, and a bit. Absolutely loved
- 13:10Speaker 1: the dress tryon scene for the gala. Yeah, and I
- 13:13Speaker 1: don't know if you watched it closely. I watched it
- 13:15Speaker 1: very closely. First of all, the music was really good
- 13:17Speaker 1: in it. I was like, I don't like Paris Parisian pop? Yes, yes,
- 13:23Speaker 1: And the scenes were so fun, like she Alexa Penevega
- 13:27Speaker 1: was like dancing in scene and drinking champagne and like
- 13:31Speaker 1: it just seemed very natural. And I wonder if the
- 13:33Speaker 1: director would just was like, whatever, have fun here and
- 13:36Speaker 1: then we'll just spice all this together. Those are my
- 13:39Speaker 1: favorite kind of scenes in movies. Yeah, I don't what
- 13:42Speaker 1: are they called what montage? A montage scene? Yeah, like
- 13:45Speaker 1: you know, I'm pretty and pink when she's like making
- 13:47Speaker 1: her dress one of my favorite scenes ever.
- 13:50Speaker 2: I just loved it.
- 13:52Speaker 3: I agree, Okay, it was a fun scene. What else?
- 13:54Speaker 1: I wanted to go back to that kiss because we
- 13:56Speaker 1: had an email from Facebook group member. Group member, Oh Mike,
- 14:01Speaker 1: he had a lot of thoughts about this movie and
- 14:04Speaker 1: he didn't want to put him in the group because
- 14:06Speaker 1: he didn't want to spoil it for any cout like
- 14:08Speaker 1: went really into it. But one of the things he
- 14:10Speaker 1: pointed out was after that kiss. He was like, here's
- 14:13Speaker 1: my problem with that kiss is I guess we could
- 14:16Speaker 1: talk about in the wish, but we're here. I want
- 14:17Speaker 1: to talk about it now. He's like, there's no way
- 14:20Speaker 1: that one of the following two things hasn't happened. A
- 14:22Speaker 1: they go back to their hotel and that moment continues,
- 14:25Speaker 1: or B they talk about it, because the option was
- 14:28Speaker 1: see she wakes up alone the next morning, and there's
- 14:31Speaker 1: we don't have any evidence of anything we're to believe
- 14:33Speaker 1: they just go back to the hotel.
- 14:35Speaker 3: Let's it, and they.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Never They're like, we're not going to talk about that
- 14:38Speaker 1: super hot moment we just had anyway, Okay, fair points.
- 14:42Speaker 1: I can't remember what exactly did happen after that. They
- 14:45Speaker 1: get interrupted, and then the next scene is her waking
- 14:48Speaker 1: up in the hotel and she looks over and he's
- 14:49Speaker 1: not on the couch, and then she sees him. She
- 14:53Speaker 1: sees him in the hallway. He's got coffee, But there's
- 14:56Speaker 1: no indication that they've had any sort of conversation at
- 14:58Speaker 1: that point. They just about a kiss that you had.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Have you ever had a conversation with a dude after
- 15:04Speaker 1: you've kissed them? If you're out the kids sleeping in
- 15:07Speaker 1: the same hotel room and this dude is your coworker
- 15:09Speaker 1: that you're pretending to be married to, I do think
- 15:12Speaker 1: this warrants a conversation. It would be like, maybe you
- 15:15Speaker 1: should get your own room because I'm afraid of what
- 15:18Speaker 1: might happen next. And if we're trying to be like
- 15:21Speaker 1: on the up and up because we're coworkers, or is
- 15:24Speaker 1: something happening here, or we're just gonna pretend like we
- 15:26Speaker 1: did at kiss and never.
- 15:27Speaker 3: Be like, is something happening between us? Do we need
- 15:30Speaker 3: to talk about that kiss?
- 15:31Speaker 1: I say that no, No, I wouldn't. I would just
- 15:34Speaker 1: be like, more kisses, please, Okay, But that's the point
- 15:36Speaker 1: that they just not neither of those things happen, Keep going,
- 15:40Speaker 1: all right. I love the maternal figures in this movie.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Sebastian's mom, uh huh was quite lovely. His dad was
- 15:50Speaker 1: a real jerk.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Yep.
- 15:51Speaker 1: And the diamond owner lady I forget her name.
- 15:54Speaker 3: Marie, I don't know.
- 15:56Speaker 1: She's not credited on the IMDBs.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Nora is his mother.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Really, there's five actors credited on IMDb for this entire movie,
- 16:06Speaker 1: some intern kids. There's a huge guest. I just thought
- 16:09Speaker 1: they were so loving and carrying to Anna. Yes, I
- 16:13Speaker 1: just loved it. I loved it because she didn't marry
- 16:16Speaker 1: Marion Marion, Okay, so she Anna didn't have anybody, you
- 16:21Speaker 1: know in these movies, like there's usually like some Oh
- 16:23Speaker 1: she did. She had her friend that lived in Paris,
- 16:25Speaker 1: So I take that back, Carol. She had a friend
- 16:28Speaker 1: who worked for the posh dog Like. Yeah, anyway, I
- 16:33Speaker 1: have two more things. I loved all the music in
- 16:36Speaker 1: this movie, all of it. I knew it was going
- 16:39Speaker 1: to be kind of like Parisian, like this is what
- 16:43Speaker 1: you would expect in like a bakery or something, you
- 16:46Speaker 1: know what I mean. But there was just I don't
- 16:49Speaker 1: I don't know. It made me happy. I just loved
- 16:52Speaker 1: it so much, so so much, and finally I felt
- 16:57Speaker 1: and maybe this goes back to the kissing scene. I
- 17:00Speaker 1: the scene or the relationship between Anna and Sebastian happened
- 17:03Speaker 1: very naturally. Yes, you know, and I start out, you know,
- 17:08Speaker 1: kind of rough, but then like they really leaned on
- 17:11Speaker 1: each other, like she realized like he needed somebody because
- 17:14Speaker 1: his dad was such a jerk and his brother was
- 17:16Speaker 1: such a jerk. And then they leaned on each other
- 17:20Speaker 1: for getting the ad campaign. I just thought it was
- 17:23Speaker 1: I was rooting for them. I agree, all right, I
- 17:26Speaker 1: only have one thing that I wished for. What that
- 17:29Speaker 1: at the moment where Anna and Sebastian's lie is discovered,
- 17:32Speaker 1: that everyone would have just taken a breath because everyone
- 17:36Speaker 1: loses their sahiit in that moment. Seriously, they're at the
- 17:41Speaker 1: bottom of the stairs, right, and the diamond Lady's like,
- 17:45Speaker 1: I'm sorry, we have to fire you. And then the
- 17:47Speaker 1: next person was like, you're an imbecile, the dad yes,
- 17:50Speaker 1: and then their boss is like, you're fired. I was like,
- 17:52Speaker 1: just pile it on all these people, like, really, like,
- 17:55Speaker 1: just take a minute, take a breath.
- 17:58Speaker 3: What really matters, right, I know?
- 18:01Speaker 1: But they had to have this like villain with Gabriel, right, yes,
- 18:07Speaker 1: which to me was not necessary. I don't we don't
- 18:11Speaker 1: need a villain in every like storyline. I think all
- 18:15Speaker 1: of those things I actually really liked Gabriel as the villain.
- 18:17Speaker 1: I think he's the classic villain. Yes, but I think
- 18:20Speaker 1: he's the classic villain. I think he plays the villain
- 18:22Speaker 1: so well. I hated him a lot. I think he's
- 18:24Speaker 1: the perfect villain. I don't think he needed to be
- 18:27Speaker 1: in all of these scenes, like why is he in
- 18:28Speaker 1: these meetings? Right? I didn't. But I think all of
- 18:32Speaker 1: those things could have happened. The durround people could have
- 18:34Speaker 1: fired them, his dad could have yelled at them, their
- 18:37Speaker 1: boss could have fired them. I think maybe what we
- 18:39Speaker 1: needed was another montage, like it didn't all need to
- 18:42Speaker 1: happen on the stairs, because we did need all of
- 18:45Speaker 1: those things to happen to get to the conclusion of
- 18:47Speaker 1: them being a part potentially blaming each other. Anna going
- 18:54Speaker 1: to Sebastian's family and talking to them, right, I just didn't.
- 18:59Speaker 1: That seems like calm down, everybody calmed down. Well. I
- 19:04Speaker 1: hated that Gabriel was like gets up on the stage
- 19:07Speaker 1: and it is like, God, He's gonna put them on
- 19:10Speaker 1: blast in front of everybody, Like who's the villain here?
- 19:14Speaker 1: Like he's trying to play them as the bad guys?
- 19:18Speaker 1: Right exactly? Yeah, I really wanted Marry to be like,
- 19:21Speaker 1: actually you suck and you're fired.
- 19:24Speaker 3: Right, But that did not happen.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Okay, I asked you if he was French. I did
- 19:30Speaker 1: look at the actor who played Gabriel, and he's from Switzerland.
- 19:36Speaker 1: I also had read on Reddit that a lot of
- 19:39Speaker 1: people were like, the French accents in these movies, in
- 19:42Speaker 1: this movie are so bad, and I'm not, like, I
- 19:45Speaker 1: don't I couldn't tell you like a good French accent
- 19:48Speaker 1: from a bad French. So I would love to know if,
- 19:52Speaker 1: like people who actually speak French, like was it terrible?
- 19:55Speaker 1: Like was he speaking bad French? Is Nicholas Bishop? Like
- 19:59Speaker 1: do we know where he's from? He's from the UK
- 20:04Speaker 1: and then he moved to Australia when he was six
- 20:06Speaker 1: months old, so he's not French.
- 20:08Speaker 3: Oh he's not French.
- 20:10Speaker 1: So they all have like accents. But well, I'll report
- 20:13Speaker 1: back when I come back from France. Okay. Another thing
- 20:17Speaker 1: I really liked about this movie is that they did
- 20:19Speaker 1: speak so much French in it. Yes, and I read
- 20:23Speaker 1: with subtitles and luckily like the subtitles translated translated, so
- 20:27Speaker 1: I just loved it. I thought it was so good.
- 20:31Speaker 1: And finally here's my biggest wish for This started out
- 20:35Speaker 1: really shaky for me, m hm, because we have that
- 20:38Speaker 1: instant conflict between Anna and Sebastian, and he like repeatedly
- 20:42Speaker 1: insults her for like not being like this go with
- 20:46Speaker 1: the flow creative like he is right, you know, like
- 20:49Speaker 1: he's very different than her or she's very different from him,
- 20:53Speaker 1: uh huh. And I was like, oh god, we got
- 20:55Speaker 1: one of these movies again. We're like they're gonna hate
- 20:57Speaker 1: each other and then they're gonna love each other, right,
- 20:59Speaker 1: But he said and one of the early scenes, he's
- 21:02Speaker 1: like you forg you forgot your broomstick or and I
- 21:06Speaker 1: was like, I'm so sick of this narrative where like
- 21:08Speaker 1: someone who's like responsible and on time is.
- 21:11Speaker 3: A bitch is a bitch?
- 21:12Speaker 1: Yeah, Like it's such an easy low fruit, Like, yeah,
- 21:17Speaker 1: can we stop doing that in these movies, Like stop
- 21:20Speaker 1: making someone who's responsible, who's just a type A compared
- 21:24Speaker 1: to like a creative type A bitch? It drives me crazy. Yeah.
- 21:30Speaker 1: And if we reverse the roles, if she was the
- 21:32Speaker 1: one like flitting in as the creative, she would be
- 21:35Speaker 1: painted as like an airhead, yeah exactly exactly, not like cool.
- 21:39Speaker 1: So just stop with that narrative.
- 21:42Speaker 3: I agree, let's stop. Did you see that?
- 21:44Speaker 1: Okay?
- 21:45Speaker 3: I have a couple Okay, me too.
- 21:46Speaker 1: What I learned is Alexa Pinevega does not speak French.
- 21:49Speaker 1: And there is a moment earlier in the movie where
- 21:52Speaker 1: Sebastian speaks French to her and she says, what did
- 21:55Speaker 1: you say? And he lives and then she like calls
- 21:57Speaker 1: him annoying in French and it rolls her tongue, like
- 22:00Speaker 1: her accent is in my untrained ear, impeccable, so she
- 22:06Speaker 1: could have folded me. But she says, nope, we're just
- 22:08Speaker 1: lucky that those words worked out well. As someone who's
- 22:11Speaker 1: been listening and working on Babbel to learn sometimes, yes,
- 22:16Speaker 1: it's a hard language. I agree, especially as someone who
- 22:21Speaker 1: what language did you take when you were in high school?
- 22:23Speaker 3: Spanish?
- 22:23Speaker 1: Yeah? So did I So like I gets I get
- 22:27Speaker 1: super tongue tied with English. I mean, have you listened
- 22:29Speaker 1: to the podcast? So imagine me trying to like speak
- 22:32Speaker 1: in French. How bad. One scene, it's breakfast and she
- 22:38Speaker 1: gets a croissant for a Sebastian. She's buttering it. This
- 22:40Speaker 1: is way past the scene where she calls him out
- 22:43Speaker 1: for buttering his croissant, because like, why are you there
- 22:46Speaker 1: so much butter in it? Anyway, she goes to grab
- 22:48Speaker 1: it and the croissant, one croissant was as big as
- 22:52Speaker 1: like a loaf of bread. She grabbed it with one
- 22:54Speaker 1: like a claw hand. It was huge. I was like,
- 22:59Speaker 1: if I could eat chrissans like that, because I'm here
- 23:01Speaker 1: for it.
- 23:02Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, for it.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Did you catch the straight up homage to carry Bradshaw?
- 23:07Speaker 2: Yes?
- 23:07Speaker 1: I did. Oh, I loved it. So we'll drop I
- 23:11Speaker 1: have the photo right here in front of me. We'll
- 23:13Speaker 1: drop a side by side in our show notes.
- 23:16Speaker 3: Yes, but Alexa as.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Anna wears a striped flower top with a striped skirt
- 23:21Speaker 1: and it is straight up doupe, as they say of
- 23:24Speaker 1: Carrie Bradshaw in Paris. When you see them side by side,
- 23:28Speaker 1: it's really something special.
- 23:30Speaker 3: I loved that dress.
- 23:32Speaker 1: It's a great dress. I really liked all of Alexa's
- 23:36Speaker 1: wardrobe in Paris too. I thought they leveled up. She
- 23:40Speaker 1: brought the right clothes to show off in Paris. I
- 23:43Speaker 1: absolutely agree. Now let's talk about the end, the very
- 23:48Speaker 1: very end, when the couple is talking to camera like
- 23:52Speaker 1: we've seen in the wedding Veil movies. Yeah, I know
- 23:56Speaker 1: that it was for like an ad. It was like
- 23:58Speaker 1: their commercial. But I saw and read it like a
- 24:01Speaker 1: lot of people were like, are we doing this now
- 24:03Speaker 1: in every movie?
- 24:04Speaker 3: Oh?
- 24:05Speaker 1: And I'm like, I think the three wedding Veil movies
- 24:08Speaker 1: and this movie were kind of all made at the
- 24:10Speaker 1: same timeframe. I don't think there was any like, oh,
- 24:13Speaker 1: they're doing it in the movies, let's do it in
- 24:15Speaker 1: ours or I mean it made sense in this movie
- 24:17Speaker 1: because it was an ad for the diamonds. Yes, right, yes,
- 24:22Speaker 1: to me, it didn't make sense in the other movie. Agree, Okay,
- 24:25Speaker 1: are you ready to read this? I am.
- 24:27Speaker 3: I need it three point seven five stars.
- 24:29Speaker 1: I gave it four point five. WHOA Like when it
- 24:32Speaker 1: was over, you were sad. I was smiling, I said
- 24:37Speaker 1: out loud, I love this.
- 24:40Speaker 2: Well.
- 24:40Speaker 1: What the listeners of this podcast might not know, but
- 24:43Speaker 1: you would know if you listen to our other podcast,
- 24:45Speaker 1: is that Wendy had the luxury of having a weekend
- 24:47Speaker 1: all to herself this weekend, and I thought of you
- 24:50Speaker 1: because I watched this Sunday morning. But sometimes when I
- 24:55Speaker 1: watch these movies, I'm going to be honest, I think
- 24:57Speaker 1: I just want to watch this so I can watch
- 24:59Speaker 1: something I want want to watch. I really enjoyed this.
- 25:02Speaker 1: That was not the case. But sitting down, I.
- 25:04Speaker 3: Thought, oh, Wendy has to use.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Part of her alone time to work, but I'm so glad.
- 25:09Speaker 1: It was a highlight of the weekend for me, and
- 25:12Speaker 1: I even DMed a listener of the show, Michelle. I
- 25:14Speaker 1: was like, I loved tonight's movie because I don't want
- 25:17Speaker 1: to tell you this stuff usually because like I wanted
- 25:20Speaker 1: to be like an organic situation here when we talk
- 25:22Speaker 1: about it and she's like, oh, I'm getting ready to
- 25:24Speaker 1: watch it right now. So then I felt kind of
- 25:26Speaker 1: bad that maybe I spoiled it because I said I
- 25:28Speaker 1: loved it so much, but I.
- 25:30Speaker 3: Didn't tell her anything.
- 25:31Speaker 1: I didn't tell her anything. And I have to say
- 25:33Speaker 1: that I think we're plagued with the terrible promos for
- 25:39Speaker 1: these movies. You know, we're just getting like these like
- 25:42Speaker 1: sneak Peaks scenes where it's just like a full cut
- 25:45Speaker 1: scene that because it was did you ever see the
- 25:49Speaker 1: commercial for this movie? It was like when they were miming,
- 25:51Speaker 1: and I was like, that is a movie I do
- 25:53Speaker 1: not want to watch. Yeah, question if the person you're
- 25:57Speaker 1: with starts miming. Do you just pretend you don't know
- 25:59Speaker 1: them and keep watching cringe so hard? I would never
- 26:02Speaker 1: in one million years. I am hashtag no fun. Hand
- 26:06Speaker 1: me a web blanket. I am not miming with you.
- 26:08Speaker 1: I am not doing it. Do not tell me to relax,
- 26:11Speaker 1: Do not tell me to chill out, Do not tell
- 26:13Speaker 1: me to just like smile and have no. No, I'm
- 26:16Speaker 1: not miming with you on the street. Ever, I thought
- 26:21Speaker 1: I'm no fun either, But I also thought, like, good
- 26:24Speaker 1: for her for just like leaning into the moment with him,
- 26:27Speaker 1: And yeah.
- 26:28Speaker 3: I'm never leaning in.
- 26:29Speaker 1: I liked it. You tell me if you mime on
- 26:32Speaker 1: the streets with your husband and Harris, I'm going to
- 26:35Speaker 1: look for a mime. Are there mimes? Is just whoaming
- 26:37Speaker 1: the street? I really was like, is this so stereotypical
- 26:40Speaker 1: that they're doing this like fashion campaign with these two
- 26:43Speaker 1: mimes in the background.
- 26:44Speaker 3: Is that really a thing?
- 26:45Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 26:46Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, because they were. The photographer gets all mad
- 26:49Speaker 1: at them for like, yeah, using the mime. Whatever. The
- 26:52Speaker 1: mime loved it. I love this movie. I'm so glad. Well,
- 26:57Speaker 1: if you love this podcast, we love your five star
- 27:00Speaker 1: ratings and reviews. Thank you to everyone. Who's taken the
- 27:03Speaker 1: time to leave a review, and we will be back
- 27:05Speaker 1: next week with both a movie review and the Way
- 27:09Speaker 1: Home recap. That's right, Bye bye
