- 0:02Speaker 1: Welcome everyone to the Monday edition of Fair Territory. As usual,
- 0:06Speaker 1: our sport is a live a ton going on, and
- 0:10Speaker 1: I will tell you, and I will promise you today
- 0:12Speaker 1: you're entering a Mets free zone. We're not going to
- 0:15Speaker 1: talk about their firings, their Shenanigans, or anything else involving
- 0:20Speaker 1: the New York Mets, including mister met We're going to
- 0:22Speaker 1: talk about a lot of other things going on in
- 0:24Speaker 1: the game, including, to start with on the lead, another
- 0:28Speaker 1: team that had a big change last week, which we
- 0:31Speaker 1: didn't get to because it happened on Friday, and that
- 0:34Speaker 1: would be the wonderful Los Angeles Angels. Los Angeles Angels
- 0:39Speaker 1: firing Perimanesian as their general manager, bringing in in what
- 0:44Speaker 1: was really a stunner, the former Cardinals president of Baseball Operations,
- 0:49Speaker 1: John Mozzeloc, who is hired as a consultant and an
- 0:52Speaker 1: interim GM and man. This raised more questions than an answered. Question.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Number one was second, John Mozelok said he didn't talk
- 1:02Speaker 1: to Arti Moreno before taking the job, Arti Moreno being
- 1:06Speaker 1: the owner of the team. That's what he said, and
- 1:09Speaker 1: apparently he dealt just with their new president, Mali Jolly
- 1:13Speaker 1: it's hard to believe that happened, but it happened. Now,
- 1:16Speaker 1: the bigger question, or two questions for the Angels as
- 1:20Speaker 1: we go forward here what happens in the draft, which
- 1:23Speaker 1: is the next big event for general managers in Major
- 1:26Speaker 1: League Baseball. That's July eleventh, And then, of course, what
- 1:30Speaker 1: happens at the trade deadline August third. Now, the draft
- 1:34Speaker 1: for the Angels is an interesting question because in recent
- 1:37Speaker 1: years they have not selected any high schoolers high in
- 1:42Speaker 1: the draft. This apparently was a dictate from Moreno. I
- 1:45Speaker 1: don't know exactly why, but it cost them, among others,
- 1:49Speaker 1: Connor Griffin if they had wanted to draft him. They
- 1:52Speaker 1: have not drafted a high schooler in before the fifth
- 1:56Speaker 1: round since twenty twenty. Again, they have not drafted a
- 2:00Speaker 1: high schooler before the fifth round since twenty twenty. College
- 2:04Speaker 1: players generally get to the majors quicker. High school players
- 2:07Speaker 1: are a bigger risk. But if you're going to ignore
- 2:09Speaker 1: an entire segment of the player population in the first
- 2:13Speaker 1: four rounds, you're probably gonna have some problems. So that's
- 2:18Speaker 1: one question. The next question for the Angels, yes, will
- 2:21Speaker 1: be the trade deadline, because this is a team and
- 2:24Speaker 1: I'm going to say this not lightly. This is a
- 2:27Speaker 1: team that can control the trade deadline. And what I
- 2:30Speaker 1: mean by that is as a seller. The Angels have
- 2:35Speaker 1: any number of attractive pieces. The biggest two would be
- 2:38Speaker 1: Jose Soriano and Read Debtmers, both under club control for
- 2:42Speaker 1: two more years after this one. Then you have Zach
- 2:45Speaker 1: Netto a shortstop. What're difficult to trade at this time
- 2:48Speaker 1: of year most teams are set at short but he
- 2:51Speaker 1: is under control for three more years. Joe Adele under
- 2:54Speaker 1: control for one more. This is all after this season.
- 2:57Speaker 1: So when I say Soriano and Debtmo for two more years,
- 3:00Speaker 1: it's this year plus two more. These are attractive pieces.
- 3:05Speaker 1: The Angels under Moreno have resisted this kind of thing,
- 3:09Speaker 1: most famously with refusing to trade show hey Otani, not
- 3:13Speaker 1: once but twice, and we will see what they do here.
- 3:17Speaker 1: They have a number of potential free agents, lesser guys
- 3:20Speaker 1: as well, So there would be one Adam Fraser brand Suter,
- 3:25Speaker 1: but you could trade those guys. You could enter or
- 3:28Speaker 1: at least accelerate a retooling of this roster. I don't
- 3:32Speaker 1: know that they want to do that. The other way
- 3:34Speaker 1: to look at it would be this would be another
- 3:37Speaker 1: departure for Arti Moreno to actually build around what you have,
- 3:42Speaker 1: build around story. I know Debt Meres and the third
- 3:45Speaker 1: pitcher that has come up and done a good job
- 3:47Speaker 1: for them, they have pieces here netto being one of them,
- 3:50Speaker 1: a cornerstone piece that they could use to construct the
- 3:54Speaker 1: team if they choose to spend money. If Arty Moreno
- 3:59Speaker 1: chooses to spend what are we expecting here. We probably
- 4:03Speaker 1: shouldn't expect a whole lot given their recent history, given
- 4:06Speaker 1: their history I don't know for a decade now under Morenos.
- 4:09Speaker 1: So we'll be watching the Angels closely over the next
- 4:12Speaker 1: few weeks just to see if anything changes in the
- 4:16Speaker 1: way they operate. John Mozelac, unlike Perimanas, unlike Billy Eppler,
- 4:23Speaker 1: unlike even going back to Jerry Depoto, is not a
- 4:26Speaker 1: first time GM. I don't recall if the Poto had
- 4:29Speaker 1: been a GM before. I think he had just been
- 4:30Speaker 1: an interim with Arizona. So you have an experienced guy
- 4:33Speaker 1: in there for the first time in a while, and
- 4:36Speaker 1: it's going to be again quite fascinating to see what
- 4:39Speaker 1: this team does. All right, let's go out to stories
- 4:42Speaker 1: that involve teams that actually are good. These would be
- 4:46Speaker 1: two divisions that have turned over in recent days and weeks.
- 4:50Speaker 1: And I'm talking first about the National League East. The
- 4:54Speaker 1: National League East in mid May, and I want to
- 4:57Speaker 1: show you the standings here was a much different ap
- 5:00Speaker 1: animal than it is right now. You are the Atlanta
- 5:02Speaker 1: Braves with a ten and a half game lead over
- 5:05Speaker 1: the Phillies. That's as of May twenty second, ten and
- 5:08Speaker 1: a half games today. What are we looking at? You
- 5:11Speaker 1: can see it right there, the Braves that lead is
- 5:14Speaker 1: down to three games. I had a National League executive
- 5:17Speaker 1: tell me last week this is going to flip. The
- 5:19Speaker 1: Phillies are going to take this division. And you can
- 5:22Speaker 1: certainly see an argument for that. The Phillies are thirty
- 5:26Speaker 1: eight and eighteen now under Don Manningly thirty eight and eighteen,
- 5:30Speaker 1: best record in the majors since the managerial change. You
- 5:33Speaker 1: have to applaud David Dombrowski for this. I questioned it, well,
- 5:37Speaker 1: once again, wrong about a Phillies managerial change. But here
- 5:41Speaker 1: is Atlanta and this is the bigger question here. Atlanta
- 5:45Speaker 1: is three and seven, its last ten, four and twelve,
- 5:47Speaker 1: and it's last sixteen and most to the point because
- 5:50Speaker 1: teams will go through these kinds of slides. Even really
- 5:53Speaker 1: good teams. Their rotation is crumbling. And in this sixteen
- 5:58Speaker 1: game span, the rotation is over six And as Mark
- 6:03Speaker 1: Bowman of MLB dot Com wrote yesterday, if the playoffs
- 6:07Speaker 1: started today, the braves number one starter, of course would
- 6:11Speaker 1: be Chris Slee. Their number two starter would be Martine Peretz,
- 6:15Speaker 1: who was designated for assignment and resigned earlier this season.
- 6:21Speaker 1: That was in April. That's where they are with the rotation.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Bryce Elder has faded badly. Grant Holmes, okay, you've got him.
- 6:29Speaker 1: You've got also Raynaldo Lopez coming back trying to be
- 6:33Speaker 1: a legitimate starter. Hurston Waldrop Smith Shauver is starting a
- 6:38Speaker 1: rehab assignment he hopefully will be back at some point.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Strider is out. So these rotation problems, we all saw
- 6:45Speaker 1: them coming. What was so interesting about the Braves, and
- 6:48Speaker 1: here's something I wrote in February. By not adding another
- 6:51Speaker 1: established starter to the rotation, the Braves are taking a
- 6:54Speaker 1: big chance. What's so interesting is that for two months
- 6:59Speaker 1: this was pretty good. This rotation really good, third in
- 7:02Speaker 1: the majors in era through May twenty second, and at
- 7:06Speaker 1: one point I said to a Braves person you know
- 7:08Speaker 1: what I was wrong about you guys, And the Braves
- 7:11Speaker 1: person actually said to me, not so fast. Let's see
- 7:14Speaker 1: what happens. Let's see how this plays out. One hundred
- 7:16Speaker 1: and sixty two games, so this is turning into a
- 7:19Speaker 1: very interesting race. These two teams, the Braves and Phillies,
- 7:22Speaker 1: play seven times in a two week stretch in September,
- 7:26Speaker 1: so we shall see how this all transpires going forward.
- 7:32Speaker 2: People dehydration sucks, quints, electrolyte stick packs to the rescue.
- 7:38Speaker 2: I order them, I use them all of the time.
- 7:42Speaker 3: Somebody who may or may not have had some adult
- 7:44Speaker 3: beverages in their life. The next day, you know what flavor?
- 7:46Speaker 3: I like watermelon and I don't like watermelon. I'll go
- 7:50Speaker 3: raspberry and it helps me to get my citrus salt in.
- 7:54Speaker 3: But if I do, it helps me to get back
- 7:56Speaker 3: to normal, feeling good and ready to go the next day.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Yep, tough workout, dry mouth in the morning. Whatever it is,
- 8:02Speaker 2: this is going to help you out. Quint always has
- 8:04Speaker 2: the best deals for you. You can go on their
- 8:06Speaker 2: website and see a number of products. We're talking about

- 8:17Speaker 2: dot com slash foul for free shipping on your order

- 8:27Speaker 2: have not been evaluated by the FEUD and Drug Administration.
- 8:30Speaker 2: This product is not intended to diagnose, street cure or
- 8:32Speaker 2: prevent any disease.
- 8:33Speaker 1: The other division, that's rather interesting right now. They all
- 8:36Speaker 1: are interesting, but this one has flipped in a big
- 8:39Speaker 1: way in recent days. The Al East. Now, I want
- 8:42Speaker 1: to show you the Ale East standings as of just
- 8:45Speaker 1: I don't know, twelve days ago or so, and they
- 8:48Speaker 1: looked much different. At the time. The Yankees had a
- 8:51Speaker 1: three and a half game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays.
- 8:54Speaker 1: I believe this was as of June. I don't know
- 8:57Speaker 1: it was recently, and that lead is now gone. It
- 9:00Speaker 1: was twelve days ago. Here it is June seventeenth. Yankees
- 9:03Speaker 1: three and a half game lead over the Rays now
- 9:07Speaker 1: lead the division by one game. The Yankees went into
- 9:10Speaker 1: the weekend still leading by two, and what happened. They
- 9:13Speaker 1: got swept in a four game series at Fenway Park
- 9:16Speaker 1: by the Red Sox and now they trail in the
- 9:20Speaker 1: division race. Now the Yankees slide here is completely understandable.
- 9:24Speaker 1: They without Judge, they were without Stanton, they're without Grisham,
- 9:27Speaker 1: even Ryan McMahon, four of their nine regular position players,
- 9:31Speaker 1: although Stanton has barely appeared. Even without Max Freed, you
- 9:35Speaker 1: can't forget him either. And beyond that, you had their
- 9:39Speaker 1: two best hitters, Ben Rice and Cody Bellinger finally struggling
- 9:43Speaker 1: and going through a little bit of a slump. So okay,
- 9:45Speaker 1: you can see where the Yankees, running into some terrific
- 9:48Speaker 1: Red Sox pitching over the weekend would struggle, and that
- 9:52Speaker 1: is exactly what happened. Now the Red Sox are now
- 9:55Speaker 1: four and a half out in the Wildcard and we've
- 9:59Speaker 1: been trashing the Red Sox all season long, and not
- 10:01Speaker 1: without reason. But they now enter an easier part of
- 10:05Speaker 1: their schedule with a roster that suddenly looks more functional.
- 10:09Speaker 1: I'm not saying they're going to make a run, but
- 10:12Speaker 1: they have starting pitching. We saw that in this series.
- 10:15Speaker 1: We've seen a really the better part of the season,
- 10:17Speaker 1: So who knows, maybe that gets interesting. We're going to
- 10:20Speaker 1: talk about the AL wild card in a little bit now.
- 10:23Speaker 1: The Rays. The Rays went into this slide at one
- 10:28Speaker 1: point until recently. They lost eighteen of twenty seven. Eighteen
- 10:32Speaker 1: and twenty seven not good. They've now won five straight
- 10:36Speaker 1: cam and Arrow's going nuts. Home runs in four straight games.
- 10:39Speaker 1: His longest home run of the season yesterday, four intred
- 10:42Speaker 1: and sixty three feet, actually the longest of his career
- 10:45Speaker 1: and the fourth longest in the majors this season. So
- 10:48Speaker 1: this is getting interesting now. The Rays, when you look
- 10:52Speaker 1: at them on paper, and they now have a physical
- 10:54Speaker 1: concern with Yandy Diaz and his shoulder, you look at
- 10:57Speaker 1: them on paper, they do not match up with the Yankees.
- 11:00Speaker 1: They certainly do not match up with a healthy Yankees team.
- 11:03Speaker 1: And yet they're kind of like the Brewers, not quite
- 11:07Speaker 1: as successful. They're always there. The Guardians are another team.
- 11:11Speaker 1: They're always there. So I would still predict the Yankees
- 11:15Speaker 1: would win this division. But what I think the Raids
- 11:18Speaker 1: would get a wild card based on the way they
- 11:20Speaker 1: put things together and the fact that they probably will
- 11:23Speaker 1: be aggressive at the deadline. Yeah, I'll predict that raised
- 11:27Speaker 1: in the playoffs. All right, we're going to be back
- 11:29Speaker 1: with a look at the American League Wildcard race, a
- 11:32Speaker 1: race of turtles, right after this. As I alluded to earlier,
- 11:43Speaker 1: we have an interesting race going on for the American
- 11:45Speaker 1: League Wildcard. It's the race of the turtles. And this
- 11:48Speaker 1: will be the inside dish this week, an analysis of
- 11:51Speaker 1: what exactly is going on in this ridiculous American League season.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Now we start with the Detroit Tigers. They're not part
- 12:00Speaker 1: of a wildcard race, of course, and that's the story here.
- 12:03Speaker 1: They're not part. They're back to fourteen games under five hundred.
- 12:07Speaker 1: They've lost five of six. So all that talk last week,
- 12:11Speaker 1: here come the Tigers. The AL Central stinks. They're gonna
- 12:14Speaker 1: make a run. They're gonna have to face a difficult
- 12:16Speaker 1: choice with scooball and Mice and all their other potential
- 12:19Speaker 1: free agents. I'm not buying it. I wasn't buying it
- 12:22Speaker 1: a couple of weeks ago when they were sixteen under.
- 12:25Speaker 1: They are not a true contender. In fact, they've got
- 12:28Speaker 1: the second worst record in the American League. And that's
- 12:31Speaker 1: pretty telling. Second worst record in a bad league. So
- 12:36Speaker 1: let's go to the teams actually in contention. And let's
- 12:39Speaker 1: start with a team that currently holds the third wildcard position.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Why are we starting with them? Because they are the
- 12:45Speaker 1: Seattle Mariners and they are under five hundred. Yes, if
- 12:49Speaker 1: the playoffs started today, an under five hundred team would qualify.
- 12:55Speaker 1: That is not a good thing necessarily. And the Mariners
- 12:59Speaker 1: not only have fallen in the wildcard race or where
- 13:02Speaker 1: they are in the standings, but they are second now
- 13:05Speaker 1: in the American League West to the Texas Rangers. Another
- 13:08Speaker 1: team that hasn't played particularly well might be facing the
- 13:12Speaker 1: loss again or is facing the loss again of Wyatt Langford.
- 13:16Speaker 1: But Seattle, I don't get them because they should be
- 13:20Speaker 1: better offensively. I know Donovan's been out, but this is
- 13:23Speaker 1: a team that until yesterday when thirteen straight games without
- 13:29Speaker 1: scoring scoring more than three runs. Thirteen straight games not
- 13:34Speaker 1: scoring more than three runs. So with each of these teams,
- 13:37Speaker 1: we're going to discuss what they might need at the deadline.
- 13:39Speaker 1: With Seattle, it's a right handed bat for sure. Rob
- 13:43Speaker 1: Refsneider has been a big disappointment. Victor Roebliz is not
- 13:46Speaker 1: that guy. They clearly need a right handed bat, and
- 13:49Speaker 1: as Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reported over the
- 13:52Speaker 1: weekend they also would like to add a high impact reliever,
- 13:56Speaker 1: maybe build a super bullpen. So that's your wild Cardly,
- 14:00Speaker 1: they're struggling Seattle Mariners. The team right behind them Houston Astros.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Now the Astros, as always are in this thing. They're
- 14:09Speaker 1: not a particularly strong team either, but of all the teams,
- 14:13Speaker 1: they are the one that so far is, or at
- 14:16Speaker 1: least lately playing the best. Twenty two and thirteen since
- 14:20Speaker 1: May twentieth, they are one out in the American League West.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Two straight comebacks over the Tigers this weekend. Hater escaped
- 14:27Speaker 1: the bases loaded now now jam yesterday. They have some
- 14:31Speaker 1: issues too. Their issues are twofold. One is the outfield,
- 14:35Speaker 1: one of the least productive outfields in the major leagues.
- 14:38Speaker 1: And the other is the rotation. And you can see
- 14:41Speaker 1: where Chandler Rome wrote in The Athletic this was just
- 14:43Speaker 1: last week. Will the Astros have to choose between outfield
- 14:47Speaker 1: help and pitching at the trade deadline? You might say, well,
- 14:51Speaker 1: they need both, go get both, and maybe they do,
- 14:54Speaker 1: but their system, as always is thin. Now the good
- 14:57Speaker 1: news with the rotation is that Hunter Brown as back,
- 15:01Speaker 1: that I my has pitched better as last two. Mike
- 15:04Speaker 1: Burrows pitch better as last one. Arraghetti has struggled and
- 15:08Speaker 1: he's had a bad June. But Javier is close to
- 15:11Speaker 1: coming off the injured list, so maybe they can more
- 15:15Speaker 1: settle on the outfield depending on what happens over the
- 15:18Speaker 1: next five weeks. They're an interesting club to say the least.
- 15:22Speaker 1: They have the pedigree, they always seem to figure out
- 15:25Speaker 1: a way to compete. Their outfield is hard, There's no
- 15:28Speaker 1: question about it right now, but they're the Astros and
- 15:31Speaker 1: I expect they're going to do things. Dana Brown their
- 15:34Speaker 1: GM in the last year of his contract, and I
- 15:36Speaker 1: expect they will be in the thick of this thing.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Next on this list another AOS team, the Athletics. Now
- 15:43Speaker 1: the Athletics, their offense has come around and certainly Kurtz
- 15:47Speaker 1: is an MVP candidate, brilliant player, Shay Langeleiers having a
- 15:52Speaker 1: great year. They've got some good things going on the
- 15:54Speaker 1: offensive end. Geloff has come on for them. They obviously
- 15:58Speaker 1: need starting pitching. They have a prospect Gauge Jump who
- 16:03Speaker 1: has emerged and really look good for them. JT. Ginn
- 16:06Speaker 1: also is having a really good year. Jeffrey Springs and
- 16:09Speaker 1: Savali not as good, Severino out with an injury. Starting
- 16:14Speaker 1: pitching will be their focus at the deadline. It has
- 16:17Speaker 1: to be like all teams. They could also use another reliever. Now,
- 16:21Speaker 1: the Minnesota Twins are next on my list, and the
- 16:24Speaker 1: Minnesota Twins are a team you might not expect would
- 16:28Speaker 1: even be here. Remember last year they were not just sellers,
- 16:32Speaker 1: they were big sellers, the major sellers at the deadline.
- 16:36Speaker 1: And yet they now are run by Tom Pohlad, and he,
- 16:40Speaker 1: as the guy who is controlling the team, wants to win.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Shockingly enough, he feels an obligation to the players and
- 16:49Speaker 1: the fans to do some things. So as of now,
- 16:54Speaker 1: I don't know that they're trading Joe Ryan. I don't
- 16:56Speaker 1: know that they're trading Ryan Jeffers. They're certainly probably not
- 16:59Speaker 1: trade Byron Buxton, who has been vocal about wanting to stay.
- 17:04Speaker 1: And what do they need? They need another starter, yes,
- 17:07Speaker 1: and probably two bullpen arms. They are a team that
- 17:11Speaker 1: in both those areas could use help. Imagine Sonny Gray
- 17:15Speaker 1: going back to the Minnesota Twins. His first choice probably
- 17:18Speaker 1: would be Atlanta. He lives in Nashville, but he's played
- 17:22Speaker 1: for Minnesota. He was happy there if the Twins were bold,
- 17:26Speaker 1: maybe that's the move that they would make. All right,
- 17:29Speaker 1: Moving down the list, the Blue Jays. Now here's a
- 17:32Speaker 1: team that is an utter mystery. They're the defending American
- 17:36Speaker 1: League champions. Their need is clear. Their general manager, Ross
- 17:40Speaker 1: Atkins said it. They need a starting pitcher. And what's
- 17:44Speaker 1: shocking about this from the Blue Jays perspective is that
- 17:48Speaker 1: they started the season or actually spring training with seven,
- 17:53Speaker 1: maybe even eight starting pitchers. They had too many. We
- 17:56Speaker 1: all thought this was going to be an amazing Blue
- 17:58Speaker 1: Jays rotation. What happens. Pons gets hurt, Bieber doesn't come
- 18:03Speaker 1: back that quickly. He just came back. Actually, Max Schurz
- 18:06Speaker 1: are not good, Eric lower gets traded. All these things happen,
- 18:11Speaker 1: and right now their rotation is not what we thought
- 18:15Speaker 1: it would be. In fact, the Blue Jays are twenty
- 18:18Speaker 1: fifth in the majors in rotation era. And yet that's
- 18:21Speaker 1: not their only problem. First base, where Vladimir Guerrero Junior
- 18:27Speaker 1: is a superstar, he has not been a superstar this season.
- 18:31Speaker 1: First base ops. If you look at all the teams
- 18:35Speaker 1: in the major leagues, where are the Blue Jays. They're
- 18:37Speaker 1: twenty eighth with flag Guerrero twenty eighth in first base ops.
- 18:42Speaker 1: It's incredible to me the team as a whole, This
- 18:45Speaker 1: wonderful offensive team we saw last October went all the
- 18:49Speaker 1: way to the seventh game of the World Series and
- 18:52Speaker 1: into extra innings in seventh game of the World Series.
- 18:55Speaker 1: This team now is twenty third in runs per game.
- 19:00Speaker 1: I know exactly what the Blue Jays will do with
- 19:01Speaker 1: the deadline. They clearly will be in it to win it.
- 19:04Speaker 1: They have invested a lot in this team already. They
- 19:08Speaker 1: probably need one more bat as well as another starter.
- 19:11Speaker 1: It's just been really curious that this funk that they've
- 19:16Speaker 1: been in has extended now for three months. That's kind
- 19:19Speaker 1: of shocking considering the way they ended last season. And
- 19:23Speaker 1: finally amid the wildcard contenders, and again, all of these
- 19:27Speaker 1: teams are within three games of the Wildcard lead, just
- 19:30Speaker 1: three the Baltimore Orioles. Here's a team we've known their
- 19:34Speaker 1: needs for quite some time now. Top of the rotation, starter,
- 19:38Speaker 1: bullpen help as well. We're kind of repeating ourselves, aren't we.
- 19:41Speaker 1: All these teams seem to need the same thing, but
- 19:44Speaker 1: the Orioles beyond that need to play a cleaner brand
- 19:48Speaker 1: of Baseball, and you know the story Brit Jeroli and
- 19:50Speaker 1: I wrote a few weeks ago about where they are
- 19:53Speaker 1: with that and about how they are a difficult team
- 19:56Speaker 1: to watch. They make mistakes on a nightly base, particularly
- 20:00Speaker 1: on the defensive end, but fundamentally all around. Yes, they
- 20:05Speaker 1: brought in Cal Ripken and Mike Shilt, well, that's fine,
- 20:07Speaker 1: but that's not going to help them right away. And
- 20:10Speaker 1: where they are as a team, I'm not sure I
- 20:13Speaker 1: would bet on them to be a playoff team now.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Mike Elias, their GM came out or president basebar Oberations
- 20:19Speaker 1: came out over the weekend and said we're going for it. Well,
- 20:22Speaker 1: you can understand that they've invested a lot in their team,
- 20:25Speaker 1: but they're not very good right now. It's not going
- 20:28Speaker 1: to take a lot with this group of contenders to
- 20:33Speaker 1: jump to the front or jump even too a second
- 20:35Speaker 1: wildcard position. But all of these teams, all these teams
- 20:40Speaker 1: within three games of the final wildcard berth which is
- 20:43Speaker 1: currently held by the Seattle Mariners, all of these teams
- 20:46Speaker 1: with the right moves that the deadline possibly could do
- 20:52Speaker 1: something special. I'm not looking at them and saying that's
- 20:55Speaker 1: really likely. It's not likely, but the deadline for any
- 20:59Speaker 1: of these clubs could be transformative. We will see what happens.
- 21:03Speaker 1: The race of the Turtles continues all right. Time now
- 21:13Speaker 1: for Grill and Ken the part of the show where
- 21:15Speaker 1: I answer your questions. Let's get right to them. First
- 21:19Speaker 1: question comes from Ricky shot five seven five eight, who says, so, Ken,
- 21:23Speaker 1: what can the Brewers do? Then? I presume that Ricky's
- 21:26Speaker 1: asking about the Brewers at the deadline, and I was
- 21:29Speaker 1: looking at some of the statistics from the league last
- 21:33Speaker 1: night just overall, who ranks where, et cetera, and the
- 21:36Speaker 1: Brewers still have terrible production at shortstop and third base.
- 21:41Speaker 1: If I were them, though, I would focus on pitching.
- 21:44Speaker 1: They could use more depth in the bullpen for sure,
- 21:47Speaker 1: And really I still see them as a team that
- 21:50Speaker 1: if they wanted to, could go get Trek Scooble because
- 21:53Speaker 1: they have one of the best form systems in the majors.
- 21:56Speaker 1: I don't expect them to do that, but certainly they
- 21:59Speaker 1: can get another starting pitcher, maybe a less accomplished veteran,
- 22:03Speaker 1: maybe someone like Casey Miz Schooble's teammate. So pitching would
- 22:07Speaker 1: be my focus if on the Brewers, even though that
- 22:09Speaker 1: production is short and third remains at the bottom of
- 22:12Speaker 1: the league, and Cooper Pratt has taken over at shortstop
- 22:16Speaker 1: and they're kind of mixing and matching a third. Maybe
- 22:19Speaker 1: it's going to get better, and maybe they don't really
- 22:21Speaker 1: care that much about it because their defense is so good,
- 22:24Speaker 1: but one more bat would probably be useful as well.
- 22:27Speaker 1: We can say this for every team. No team is perfect,
- 22:31Speaker 1: but the Brewers they are in a position to do
- 22:34Speaker 1: some special things. And I know everybody thinks, oh my gosh,
- 22:38Speaker 1: they can't beat the Dodgers. Can't beat a big market team.
- 22:41Speaker 1: No boloney, they can, but they have to do some
- 22:44Speaker 1: things to tweak their roster. All right. Next question, This
- 22:48Speaker 1: one comes from Jim Jim Huerta, who asks Ken, which team,
- 22:51Speaker 1: outside of the wildcard trio would you expect to make
- 22:54Speaker 1: a surprising run in both leagues? Okay, we sort of
- 22:58Speaker 1: cover that in the last one. What I said was,
- 23:01Speaker 1: with regard to the American League, it's going to be
- 23:04Speaker 1: maybe the team that makes the best moves. Now, the
- 23:07Speaker 1: Red Sox are really interesting in the American League because
- 23:10Speaker 1: they're outside of the teams even that I mentioned, they're
- 23:13Speaker 1: four and a half games back in the Wildcard, But
- 23:16Speaker 1: we saw this weekend what they can do when they pitch. Now,
- 23:21Speaker 1: if they get another bat and maybe it's somebody that
- 23:25Speaker 1: can just be kind of a solid guy in the
- 23:28Speaker 1: infield pretty much anywhere, then they maybe get interesting and
- 23:32Speaker 1: maybe they go on and run again. They have an
- 23:34Speaker 1: easy schedule coming up. It's teams like the Mets, the Nats, Angels.
- 23:40Speaker 1: They have a chance here to do something. So that's
- 23:43Speaker 1: the team I would say in the American League. In
- 23:45Speaker 1: the National League, it's a little more difficult, but certainly
- 23:49Speaker 1: the Marlins have played great in June. And the Marlins
- 23:52Speaker 1: are a team I've liked from the very beginning. They've
- 23:54Speaker 1: had these incredible pitching injuries this month where you thought
- 23:57Speaker 1: they would collapse at the start of June, and they
- 24:01Speaker 1: took off. So I like where they are under Clayton McCullough.
- 24:05Speaker 1: I like where they are in general. They certainly could
- 24:07Speaker 1: use another starter as well. They can't trade our contrift.
- 24:11Speaker 1: They're going to be trying to get into a playoff spot.
- 24:13Speaker 1: But yes, I can see them maybe making a push here.
- 24:16Speaker 1: You see where they are right now, half game out
- 24:18Speaker 1: in the wildcard standings. Pretty good for the Miami Marlins.
- 24:22Speaker 1: I want to thank everyone for watching and listening. Foul Territory,
- 24:25Speaker 1: our flagship show is coming up at one pm Eastern.
