- 0:31All right, William, you're up.
- 0:33So welcome to drive thru episode number 45.
- 0:35This is our monthly recap where we put together a menu of automotive,
- 0:39motorsport, and random car adjacent news.
- 0:43So now let's pull up to the drive thru window number one
- 0:45for some automotive news.
- 0:47Well, folks, you heard it.
- 0:48It's our most returning this guest cohost on the drive through.
- 0:53It's William Big Money Ross filling in for Brad tonight.
- 0:57Welcome back to the show, William.
- 0:58Thank you.
- 0:58Is that a returning returning?
- 1:00What was that word?
- 1:01Is that a most
- 1:02returning is
- 1:05technical term.
- 1:06We're allowed to make things up on this episode.
- 1:09It's the only time we get some freedom, you know, But speaking of freedom, tonight
- 1:12we're going to talk about freedom of the open road because, you know what,
- 1:15all the obligatory hallmark and federal holidays are behind us for a while.
- 1:20I think we're in that long haul here of the summer, right?
- 1:23The blistering heat, those wonderful things that go along with summertime.
- 1:27But it also means it's time for some road trips.
- 1:30So I feel like this is going to be our punch buggy, no punchbacks episode.
- 1:34Potentially.
- 1:35I would just like to interject that it's May.
- 1:38Summer has not started yet.
- 1:39We're very close.
- 1:40We are a month away.
- 1:42I thought Memorial Day was your, you're going by the actual official date.
- 1:45I'm going by the actual.
- 1:47Not until June.
- 1:48We're getting technical.
- 1:49The fact that it's 90 degrees this week tells me it's summertime.
- 1:54It's hot.
- 1:55Before we jump into our showcase about road tripping, we got to talk about
- 1:59the Cybertruck because it's our HHR.
- 2:01It's our Dodge Dart.
- 2:03It's all those things rolled up into one.
- 2:05If it could get any worse.
- 2:06Big old pile of dump.
- 2:08You had to see this coming.
- 2:09I mean, come on, you know, knowing some about metal stamping and trying to
- 2:12stamp stainless and trying what they're doing, they try to do it as simple as
- 2:15possible by having all the straight edges and not really any contour or nothing.
- 2:19And people are cutting fingers off.
- 2:21And
- 2:21if you own a stainless steel appliance in your kitchen, you know what
- 2:25it's going to look like in about.
- 2:27Five seconds.
- 2:28. If she said it once, she said it a hundred times at this point,
- 2:31like I called that from the beginning and I saw one recently down the road.
- 2:36Like I legit actually was like, oh crap, I'm gonna like speed up a little bit
- 2:39and catch 'em at the next light because I wanted to see this thing in person.
- 2:42And it was nasty looking the smudges all on the door, like where you
- 2:47would be handling it to enter.
- 2:49It just looked like vomit on the side of the door.
- 2:51And then your point about stamping the stainless steel, it had this ripple
- 2:55effect that I was like, is this straight?
- 2:59No,
- 3:00no.
- 3:00But
- 3:02we've covered all that before.
- 3:04We actually have new news about the Cybertruck and Tanya, this one.
- 3:09Literally blows my mind.
- 3:11This takes the cake.
- 3:12Would you like to inform our audience on what this latest development
- 3:16in Cybertruck nonsense is?
- 3:18Are you talking about the gas pedal?
- 3:19We covered that last
- 3:20time.
- 3:20I'm
- 3:20talking about the shifter.
- 3:22Do you guys know where the shifter is?
- 3:23Oh, I heard it's like in the visor or something.
- 3:27Yes!
- 3:27Who designed this thing
- 3:31designed by a crazy person who puts transmission shifter
- 3:35buttons in the sun visor.
- 3:37Oh, it's in the center.
- 3:39It's like where your rear view mirror would be.
- 3:41Right.
- 3:41A guy named Elon Musk.
- 3:42That's got more money than he knows what to do with it and his
- 3:45egos.
- 3:47But the thing is, it's like one of the most highly touched
- 3:50areas in the car, right?
- 3:51The sun visor, the rear view mirror.
- 3:53And the steering wheel.
- 3:54No, this isn't.
- 3:55If you look at the picture, this isn't a highly touched area because this thing
- 3:59doesn't have a rear view mirror in it.
- 4:01Instead of a rear view mirror, you have this button panel.
- 4:04So it's really not a high touch area.
- 4:06Why would you put it there?
- 4:08I wouldn't put it there.
- 4:09I'm not defending its location there.
- 4:10But given what they've removed to place it there, it actually
- 4:14is not a high touch area.
- 4:16Which just goes more to the shoddy craftsmanship if it falls out
- 4:20without you even needing to touch it.
- 4:22Here's a question and there could be a poll what's worse looking or
- 4:25worse placement or how that design engineering is that or on the C.
- 4:29A.
- 4:29Corvette center council.
- 4:31Oh,
- 4:31you know, and that Lincoln Mark Z had all the buttons up on the side
- 4:35of the dashboard to those were weird.
- 4:37But I think this takes the cake because what I'm talking about in the high touch
- 4:41area, you're constantly moving that visor, you're messing around with the visor and
- 4:44then your transmission shifter falls out.
- 4:47And stops working.
- 4:48I mean, who in their right mind thought this was a good idea?
- 4:50And by the way, the hazard lights are there too.
- 4:53Yeah.
- 4:54What about the rear quarter panel?
- 4:56It just falls off.
- 4:57Oh man.
- 4:58I saw that too.
- 4:58I'm like, what?
- 4:59And it was just
- 5:00like interior frame is plastic.
- 5:02It looks like when you take the door card off of an old Volkswagen and you see
- 5:06the internals of how the window works.
- 5:08I was like, where's the frame to the back of the truck?
- 5:10I mean, so did this thing not have to go through an HTSA crash study?
- 5:15This
- 5:17is why it's Teslagate.
- 5:18If you pay enough, if you got enough, which bill is his face on
- 5:22now, like the thousand dollar bill.
- 5:23If you have enough Elon Musk dollars, you can pay this thing through the NTSA.
- 5:29If this gets hit, it's going to get obliterated by even a small vehicle.
- 5:33Here's what they're doing.
- 5:34And I don't know to where the line's drawn, but there's a lot.
- 5:38of these tests that are self certifying.
- 5:41Oh, no.
- 5:42That's good.
- 5:43So it's just basically the manufacturer does it and goes, Oh, yeah, we're good.
- 5:47That could be one of the ones that fell under self certification, which
- 5:50is pretty scary when you start thinking about it, because who's monitoring it?
- 5:53Eric, like you said, have enough Musk dollars, stamp approval, make it rain.
- 5:58What would Brad say if he was here?
- 5:59Delusion!
- 6:01There's Big Money Ross money, then there's Elon Bucks.
- 6:06No, all kidding aside, so going into our road trip in here, would you
- 6:10go cross country in a Cybertruck?
- 6:12No, you wouldn't make it.
- 6:13No, you wouldn't make it in any electric car.
- 6:15You'd get somewhere in the Midwest with a big rainstorm, and then you'd
- 6:18be stranded because the car got wet.
- 6:20Or because your shifter fell off.
- 6:23So you're done and then you would have hit some place with some sand
- 6:26and then it would have gotten stuck.
- 6:28And so you're done.
- 6:30I just have to laugh.
- 6:31I mean, I don't know how much you watch this from when foundations got
- 6:34launched and then hitting the either I'd say private off market transactions
- 6:39and then the auctions because they all first want to go to auction.
- 6:42Well, there's quite a few that sold prior to that.
- 6:44Just kind of off market transaction to 25 to 50.
- 6:48Basically within four weeks.
- 6:50Almost paying sticker.
- 6:51And a lot of people were like, I don't even know if I want to pay sticker for
- 6:53these basically in four to five weeks, man, those things lost 150, 000 in value.
- 6:58They just
- 6:58sold one at Mecum and it came in at 105, which is just barely
- 7:03over sticker and I'm like, wow.
- 7:04Okay.
- 7:05Yeah.
- 7:05They felt like a lead balloon.
- 7:07These people.
- 7:08Hopefully everybody will just buy them just to have that little gimmicky thing
- 7:11for it because you're not going to resell make any money anymore on it.
- 7:14That's for sure.
- 7:15What's funny about this is especially the picture of the fender and
- 7:18everything that is now falling off the gas pedal, the shifter, the fenders.
- 7:22I mean, God knows what else is going to fall off the
- 7:24Cybertruck, but it's literally.
- 7:26The epitome of the expression.
- 7:27I'm going to drive it until it falls apart around me.
- 7:30It's brand freaking new.
- 7:32That ain't going to be a far drive.
- 7:36You know, talking about driving the Cybertruck cross country, one of our
- 7:39favorite places for most well seasoned road trippers is to make a stopover.
- 7:44At the closest Buc ee's.
- 7:46Gotta love Buc ee's.
- 7:47This place is
- 7:47awesome.
- 7:48Coming your way, William, there is rumor, they've been posting on social
- 7:52media and in the Detroit Free Press, that Buc ee's is making its way north.
- 7:57There's billboards as far north as I 96 in Michigan, basically alluding to Buc
- 8:03ee's coming that far into the Midwest.
- 8:05Well, my understanding is they're supposed to be putting one down there by Dayton.
- 8:09Somewhere between Dayton and Cincinnati, I think on 75.
- 8:11Oh, wow.
- 8:12This was just a couple of months ago.
- 8:14Read it that supposedly they bought the land, everything like that.
- 8:17They found a small ranch
- 8:19in Ohio to purchase a couple
- 8:21thousand acres.
- 8:23But yeah, somewhere down, but like by Dayton and since then, I want to say
- 8:26it was on 75 there, that corridor.
- 8:28Cause it would make sense.
- 8:29Cause if they get up into Michigan, it's that's that straight shot.
- 8:32It's going up.
- 8:32And like, I know going down, which I'm going to be going that way in about A week
- 8:36and a half is going down, hitting 71, 75.
- 8:40And then just right when you get into Kentucky, you hit that big one.
- 8:43Well, they're all big.
- 8:43Tonya, you were in Texas.
- 8:45Some of the biggest Buc ee's in the country down there, because
- 8:48everything's bigger in Texas.
- 8:50And for those that don't know about Buc ee's, what's it all about?
- 8:53Why are we talking about a gas station?
- 8:54Well, they also were founded out of Texas.
- 8:57So of course they're going to be bigger and badder down there.
- 8:59They have an advertisement that they have, I don't know if it's
- 9:02the world's or whatever, cleanest bathrooms that you'll ever find at a
- 9:06rest stop and damn if that's not true.
- 9:09Oh god, they smell great too.
- 9:11The one in between going like Houston to Austin.
- 9:14You made us stop there when we went to Formula One.
- 9:17Yeah, we stopped and you went into the restroom and you could have had
- 9:20a party of like dozens of people.
- 9:22It was so huge.
- 9:23It was like a palace and it was sparkling clean.
- 9:25It was amazing.
- 9:26Whatever faux marble they were using, it was Glamorous.
- 9:29But not only the bathrooms.
- 9:31I mean, they've got, I don't know how many pumps outside.
- 9:33I think a minimalist one was like 200 plus pumps.
- 9:36They're packed.
- 9:37Almost every pump is being used.
- 9:39How many Tesla chargers are the Bucky's?
- 9:41Two.
- 9:41200 gas pumps and two Tesla chargers.
- 9:46I love it.
- 9:47It's brilliant.
- 9:49Making no money on that electricity.
- 9:51Of course you would think though, with that big ass store they have
- 9:53that they'd be like, no, what?
- 9:54Let's give it These people are stuck here for a couple hours, especially, you know.
- 9:58Only half the chargers be working anyways, and they're gonna be
- 10:01stuck there for three, four hours.
- 10:03It's a
- 10:03Tesla quality.
- 10:04There's like, the food services, then there's the gift shop, and then I think
- 10:08there was like, the bait and tackle shop, and it was like, anything that you
- 10:12could possibly think you needed on your road trip, you can get at a Buc ee's.
- 10:15Like, it's more than just a gas station, it's an experience.
- 10:18First time I ever went was just recently back, last fall, whatever,
- 10:21when I went down to Tennessee.
- 10:23I don't know if they got the gimmick down, but I mean, they're banging it.
- 10:27I mean, it's just, it's unbelievable.
- 10:29Michiganders, there could be a Buc ee's coming near you.
- 10:32So stay tuned to social media and the Detroit Free Press for updates on the
- 10:37newest Buc ee's coming to the Midwest.
- 10:39So I'm excited for that too.
- 10:40They'll go game, but man, they have the legal pot.
- 10:43People can just sit there and they're pumping their gas.
- 10:45Eat an edible, go inside and just stuff their face with the pulled pork.
- 10:48Jeez.
- 10:49Do you want to have to leave all day?
- 10:50That's a trip into itself.
- 10:52That's a different kind of trip.
- 10:53It's
- 10:54a different road trip, but it's all the road trip it is.
- 10:58You don't want to get yourself into too much trouble.
- 10:59You can get into a little bit of trouble there at the Bucky stuff, but.
- 11:02Don't get into trouble like Joey Jordan did on his big South American adventure.
- 11:07So go back into our catalog and search for Joey's South American adventure.
- 11:10That's an excellent road trip story.
- 11:13It's a journey man and machine coming of age 26, 000 miles in a Toyota
- 11:20high ACE that he bought sight unseen.
- 11:22Left from L.
- 11:23A.
- 11:23and drove all the way to Patagonia.
- 11:25Really, really cool story if you haven't heard it before.
- 11:28So go back, and if you've heard it before, it's time to revisit it.
- 11:30So check it out in our catalog.
- 11:32Looking back into our catalog a little bit as we're thinking about road
- 11:35tripping, we did an episode with Brian Kreider from Boulder Camper Vans.
- 11:40So that might be worth a re listen if you're thinking
- 11:43about some longer road trips.
- 11:44You know, there was a huge craze during COVID.
- 11:47People doing the small house and going off grid and I'm going to have my camper van.
- 11:51So there's a lot of those in the market, but if you're looking for
- 11:54something completely custom built to your specifications, Boulder camper
- 11:57vans is definitely a place to look.
- 11:59And Brian is an expert in that field.
- 12:01Speaking of the road trip, I came across that.
- 12:03I posted it up in a couple of spots on LinkedIn and that was, I think USA Today
- 12:07did it top 10, I would say glamping, but they're actually, they take the
- 12:11retro old school travel trailers.
- 12:13And it's a hotel.
- 12:14They're all set up.
- 12:15So you got like, it's a travel park, but you're obviously just renting it.
- 12:18You show up.
- 12:18It was all the old cool restaurants, but they had like the top
- 12:2110 around the United States.
- 12:22That's kind of the cool thing this day and age is you can find
- 12:25some really cool places to stay.
- 12:27I know back in my day, the cool thing was staying at the Holidome.
- 12:30That was the shiznit.
- 12:31You mean the Hojo?
- 12:32You're staying at the Hojo?
- 12:33The Hojo.
- 12:34So you find those like, yeah, I'm living large.
- 12:37So many cool places to stay.
- 12:38I mean, You have a lot of fun this day and age and really kind of
- 12:41get down a two to three week road trip out there and have some fun.
- 12:43Well, you bring up a really good point because maybe a lot of our Petrelhead
- 12:48audience out there doesn't know, but if you have kids or grandkids in fourth
- 12:53grade, it's a nationwide Program that if you have a child in fourth grade right
- 12:58now You get access to all the national parks for free You don't have to pay
- 13:03the fees for camping any of that kind of stuff and it applies to your whole
- 13:06family As long as you have one kid in the fourth grade So if you have a second
- 13:10kid coming into fourth grade with older kids You can take everybody on these
- 13:13trips to yellowstone and sequoia And all these places completely for free.
- 13:18It also just by national park pass for not that much money.
- 13:20That's outstanding.
- 13:22So lots of things to look forward to.
- 13:23I mean, look into your department of natural resources, parks,
- 13:27department, things like that.
- 13:28There's a lot of really cool things you can do.
- 13:30It doesn't have to be rustic camping with vaulted toilets and stuff like
- 13:34that, really going off grid, but there's a lot of excellent places that you can
- 13:37go for not a lot of money and enjoy that kind of Griswold family vacation
- 13:41as you're heading across country.
- 13:44Just don't get out of your car and try to walk up and pet a bison, or go after the
- 13:48bear and the cubs, alright, like that.
- 13:50You have some frickin common sense.
- 13:52Well, to your point, you can't go on a road trip if you don't
- 13:55have a reliable set of wheels.
- 13:57It's up for debate on whether or not we can take a Cybertruck cross country.
- 14:00Somebody's gonna try it, somebody's gonna do it.
- 14:01That's unless, of course, you're a cybertruck driver.
- 14:03You have a Nissan Altima, right Tanya?
- 14:05That'll stand the test of time.
- 14:06Cockroaches and nuclear winter and Nissan Altimas.
- 14:10Those will be here till the end of time.
- 14:11So it's all good.
- 14:12And as I like to remind Brad, now that we're halfway through the 2024
- 14:18car buying year, let's talk about what's officially dead going into
- 14:22September when the 2025 year kicks off, is there anything on this list?
- 14:27That surprises you or anything you should pick up as maybe a cross country car.
- 14:31Well, what annoys me about this list is things like the Chevy Bolt
- 14:35EV, but no, it's not because you literally talked about how you're
- 14:40actually bringing it back and there's going to be a second generation.
- 14:44So there's just not going to be one in the 2024 year.
- 14:47But it's not like they're discontinuing it for eternity.
- 14:50Right.
- 14:50I hate confusing stuff like this.
- 14:52Exactly.
- 14:52And some of these Chryslers, we already knew they were dead two years ago.
- 14:56They made that announcement.
- 14:57It's not that big of a deal.
- 14:59The TT died last year, the Audi R8.
- 15:02I was like, they still make that?
- 15:03I thought they stopped producing that a couple of years ago.
- 15:06So some of these are like, why the hell are they on the list?
- 15:08And then there's one for William on here.
- 15:11Yeah.
- 15:11Your FA, I mean, I'm horrible at distinguishing between the models of
- 15:16like, you know, you got your four, eight, eight, your F eight, your piece
- 15:19to all this stuff, they look so similar when they came out with the two, nine,
- 15:23six, this became almost redundant.
- 15:24What's the point?
- 15:25I mean, that two, nine, six was supposed to be your energy level.
- 15:27It's got more horsepower.
- 15:28It's a better car.
- 15:29Yeah, that's not surprising.
- 15:30And going by the wayside, my thought probably be next year is the SF 90.
- 15:35I don't see why.
- 15:37They'll keep that either.
- 15:38They're not selling them.
- 15:39No one's buying them, which is kind of strange.
- 15:41I mean, it's got all that horsepower and like that, but people don't want them.
- 15:44I kind of get it.
- 15:45Everything kind of stopped at the four or five, eight.
- 15:47Once they started going turbo charging, it was like, what's the point?
- 15:50That's one of those ones.
- 15:51I was just saying this.
- 15:52Like, wait, that one's going away?
- 15:53Oh, it's still here?
- 15:54Yeah, right, it's still around.
- 15:55Like with R8?
- 15:56Wait, I thought that thing was done.
- 15:57The other one that I'm sort of surprised but not is that Ford Focus based Ford
- 16:02Transit Connect, the smaller little carrier van, those were becoming really
- 16:07popular here, at least on the east coast, as they were replacing like
- 16:11the bigger Chevy Savannas and stuff.
- 16:12Stuff for like electricians and some plumbers that only need
- 16:16smaller equipment to carry around.
- 16:17Like the Comcast guy.
- 16:19Why is he driving around in a suburban, right?
- 16:21The Ford Transit's more than big enough for what they need to do.
- 16:24Those coax cables aren't that big.
- 16:26So that's kind of surprising that that's going away.
- 16:28Wondering what Ford's going to replace that with.
- 16:30As you go down the list, there's more Chrysler stuff.
- 16:32That's not a shocker.
- 16:33The Kia Stinger.
- 16:34We already knew about that.
- 16:35Mazda is always kind of doing the hokey pokey.
- 16:38The McLaren 720.
- 16:40Again, another supercar that I thought they stopped building, right?
- 16:43Yeah, that's the thing with those.
- 16:44Started with the MP412, whatever, C, blah, blah, blah.
- 16:48Then you go into the 570, then it went into 720, now it's the 750.
- 16:53There wasn't leaps and bounds in regards to what they think
- 16:56there are changes on these cars.
- 16:57I know when they went from the 675 to the 720, I think they had, it was all new tub.
- 17:02Then again, after that, it's just engineering and
- 17:04horsepower, that kind of stuff.
- 17:06To your point.
- 17:06Yeah.
- 17:06It's like, didn't even know they were still making it.
- 17:08And like, why would you still be making it when you have the 750?
- 17:11Some of this stuff's just baffling.
- 17:12You got to wonder if it's just a complete order books or what?
- 17:15I don't know.
- 17:15But I love the, I guess you would say the moniker or the label these things are
- 17:19getting, because I guess they're just.
- 17:20Absolute nightmares to own in regards to electronics, everything like that.
- 17:25I guess like the 720, 750 is so bad, but the 570, 685 and all,
- 17:29especially the MP12, 4Cs, whatever, they call them McCarrens now.
- 17:32McCarrens.
- 17:33I love that.
- 17:33That's awesome.
- 17:36Like what?
- 17:36There's a laundry list of Benzes here, which I'm sure breaks.
- 17:39Tanya's heart, because she's a big fan of Mercedes.
- 17:42And did you notice a common theme outside of the Metris, between
- 17:45all of these Benzes, Tanya?
- 17:47No, apparently.
- 17:48They're all basically coupes.
- 17:50I was gonna say that, and then I was like, well, there is the sedan four door.
- 17:54The CLS has that low roof, Like a Passat CC and all that stuff that they
- 17:58were messing with for a while there.
- 17:59I'm sort of glad to see that go away.
- 18:00Cause I thought it was kind of awkwardly shaped.
- 18:03I mean, are we surprised?
- 18:04I mean, in the market here, nobody wants a two door really.
- 18:07They're such good looking cars.
- 18:08I thought they got rid of CLS for a couple of years and brought it back.
- 18:12It's the same question I have about the Maxima, which is on this list as well.
- 18:16Tanya corrected me like a couple of months ago.
- 18:18Still around they still may well here it is on the death
- 18:20list rest in peace to the Maxima
- 18:23I'm disappointed to see the renegade going away.
- 18:26Yeah.
- 18:26Well the Fiat 500 X is going away and they're the same car
- 18:29basically So that's the end of that
- 18:31obviously Production planning and how they go about doing this their plan was all
- 18:36right in 2024 This will be like so this plans out and then their mindset back.
- 18:40That was to us.
- 18:41Oh, we're going Is
- 18:44Now everyone's second guessing it because no one wants to buy the electric cars.
- 18:48The infrastructure's not there.
- 18:49I mean, it's all just kind of hitting the fan.
- 18:51And again, these coming years are going to be interesting in
- 18:54regards to how this all plays out.
- 18:56These companies invested billions of dollars doing these things.
- 19:00You have some just completely stopping the factories they were building.
- 19:03And it's going to be interesting to see what comes about here.
- 19:06I saved the best for last.
- 19:07I think it needs some faux wood paneling down the side.
- 19:11This is the German version of the Griswold family truckster.
- 19:15The Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo.
- 19:18I think it's probably the only car on this list I would go cross country
- 19:21and I'm a huge fan of station wagons.
- 19:24But I understand why this didn't sell who wants a Porsche station wagon.
- 19:27It doesn't make any sense.
- 19:29I love
- 19:29this thing though.
- 19:30I think it's awesome.
- 19:31I mean, if you're a fan of the RS six Avant or any of the other station
- 19:34wagons from the VAG portfolio,
- 19:36I'd buy the RS six first before I bought that, but I liked those things.
- 19:40They're great.
- 19:40It's twice as much as the RS six.
- 19:42So why not just buy the RS six?
- 19:43Cause you're basically got the same car.
- 19:44It's not.
- 19:45Who wants a Porsche wagon?
- 19:47It's who wants a wagon?
- 19:49Because honestly, who wants a Porsche SUV?
- 19:51I'm sorry, they have no business being an SUV either, but people like SUVs.
- 19:56People don't like wagons in this country.
- 19:57How many times is Enzo spinning in his grave with that Puro
- 20:01Sangue coming to the market?
- 20:02That Mazda CX whatever?
- 20:04Yeah, that Puro Sangue drives like, that thing's phenomenal.
- 20:07I mean, you've seen the memes where they put the SUV next to the
- 20:10Mazda SUV and they look identical.
- 20:12And it's like, good thing Ferrari spent millions of dollars to make a Mazda.
- 20:17Here's the kind of question, like say with this, with the, you know, Sport
- 20:20Turismo is like, all right, there are built in limited numbers anyways, who
- 20:23out there bought it and is just sitting on it because they figured in 20 years,
- 20:28it's going to be worth something.
- 20:29Yeah.
- 20:29Because they built God, maybe only 15, 20, 000 of them total production run, maybe.
- 20:35If that,
- 20:36do you remember when low volume was like less than 50, less than a
- 20:40hundred, less than 2000, it's creeped up to, I have a low production car.
- 20:45There's only 35, 000 of the main, like, wait, what got a couple
- 20:50extra zeros on there, buddy.
- 20:51Yeah, exactly.
- 20:52It's getting stretched just a little bit too much.
- 20:55I mean, yeah, it's still a small number, but they talk about like with the F40,
- 20:58cause there's about 1300 of them built.
- 21:00In my mind, that's a lot for what it is, but, Oh, it's rare.
- 21:03Low productions that make.
- 21:05Man, there's 1300.
- 21:06There's quite a few and never a problem finding one for sale.
- 21:09I'm in the boat with you and saying, look, if it's 50 or less,
- 21:12okay, that's low production.
- 21:13This next one might be low production too, but what would a discussion about
- 21:17road tripping be if we didn't talk about some open air motoring, right?
- 21:22That's the other side of taking a road trip.
- 21:24Throw the top Miata or your C class Mercedes or your Ford Mustang
- 21:29convertible, whatever you've got, right?
- 21:30Drop the top, jam it in fourth gear and let's let it rip.
- 21:33Toyota's coming to the table with something, and I don't
- 21:35even know how to explain this.
- 21:37Is
- 21:37that a Hot Wheel?
- 21:40Tanya, what is this thing?
- 21:41Is this a cappuccino?
- 21:43Is this a K Car?
- 21:43I
- 21:43can't tell.
- 21:45It's unfortunate.
- 21:48Wait, is that your description of it?
- 21:50It's unfortunate?
- 21:52That's perfect.
- 21:53That is perfect.
- 21:55That sums it up.
- 21:56It's an unfortunate stylistic choice.
- 22:00So what are we talking about here?
- 22:01It's supposed to be a Miata fighter?
- 22:04Competitor?
- 22:05Toyota is bringing to market, supposedly.
- 22:07Allegedly.
- 22:08We'll see if it happens.
- 22:10Hopefully it'll come in a GR edition.
- 22:12The SFR, not to be confused with the FRS, it's a weird combination
- 22:18of style choices, as you point out.
- 22:20But yes, they're targeting the Mazda Miata directly with a tiny two door drop top.
- 22:25Well, I mean, is that just a Targa?
- 22:26Because the way that looks, it looks like it's just a Targa.
- 22:30Well, it's all renderings, right?
- 22:31So we don't know.
- 22:32But it sort of reminds me of the ND Miata fixed roof.
- 22:36Yeah.
- 22:36That RF or whatever it is.
- 22:38Yeah.
- 22:38Yeah.
- 22:38Yeah.
- 22:39Yeah.
- 22:39Which that thing is cool by the way.
- 22:41I love that.
- 22:41Seems awesome.
- 22:42You don't see many of those.
- 22:43There you go.
- 22:43There's a rarity.
- 22:44Well, we
- 22:45know what it looks like.
- 22:46It's
- 22:46not a render.
- 22:48No, this is a concept car from 2015.
- 22:52That they're actually, I guess, considering now making.
- 22:55It
- 22:55looks like it was getting the dryer too long.
- 22:58That's just weird looking.
- 22:59Here's the thing about this Ugly Duckling.
- 23:01I'm actually okay with it because A, I'm hoping for a GR edition.
- 23:05B, I gotta go back to the time in the early 2000s when the Z3 The
- 23:12TT, the Honda S 2000, the MRS and the Lotus Elise all came to market.
- 23:18Basically at the same time, there was like this glut of convertibles
- 23:21and Targos for the first time in like decades, the MRS, the MR2 Spyder,
- 23:26basically the MRS, the Toyota.
- 23:28Was the ugliest of the bunch if you compared it to the Audi or compared to the
- 23:33BMW, whatever But at the end of the day when you were behind the steering wheel
- 23:36It had the biggest smile factor because I got to drive all of them So it sort
- 23:40of didn't matter what it looked like and knowing what toyota's capable of let's put
- 23:45that 300 horsepower Three cylinder turbo in there from the yaris or the corolla.
- 23:49This thing's gonna be a rocket ship.
- 23:51I'm all about this I would love to try to drive this car I would say it's going
- 23:56to be a great track day car, but probably not on your list of luxury convertibles
- 24:02that you would go on a road trip with.
- 24:04I think they should be doing this.
- 24:05Like, cool.
- 24:06Yes.
- 24:06Keep doing these cool cars, but my goodness, can we make
- 24:10it look a little better?
- 24:11No, it's got to have that Prius effect.
- 24:13It's got to be ugly for a long time.
- 24:15And then suddenly overnight, it's like, wait, it looks like a real car now.
- 24:18No offense to Prius owners.
- 24:19Just that we all agree.
- 24:20The Gen 5 Prius is really good looking compared to everything else.
- 24:24Yeah,
- 24:24it's a sharp looking car.
- 24:25I got a chance to ride in one of the Green Grand Prix's.
- 24:28I won't belabor that.
- 24:29But
- 24:29I mean, they're really like, they're really strongly influenced by the
- 24:34Cappuccino and that's not a good thing.
- 24:36Have you ever seen one of those in person?
- 24:38Not in person.
- 24:39There was one parked in the same parking lot as me, the guy would bring it on
- 24:42Fridays and I would bring a Mark IV.
- 24:45Granted, I mean, I bring my station wagon, which is slightly longer than a Golf of
- 24:48that period, but I thought I was in a 68 Lincoln in comparison to the Cappuccino.
- 24:53It's tiny.
- 24:55That's fine.
- 24:55The size isn't the problem.
- 24:56It's not attractive.
- 25:00It's a design choice.
- 25:02That kind of wraps out our road trip and showcase.
- 25:05Although as our audience knows that we'll be pulling on that thread throughout
- 25:09the rest of the episode, but it's time we turn and talk a little bit about
- 25:13Porsche, Volkswagen, and Audi news.
- 25:15So what's going on, Tanya?
- 25:17So there's actually a couple of tidbits.
- 25:18One of the latest things apparently is that the ID seven, the electric
- 25:25slot, um, apparently is, uh, Delayed without further notice.
- 25:33Wow.
- 25:34So I mean like
- 25:35they're not saying when I don't know if it's indefinitely, but there's
- 25:39not a oh, we're just delaying it a couple months But it's too big money.
- 25:43Ross's earlier point ev sales are down people aren't buying
- 25:46Well, people weren't buying the facade either.
- 25:48So it's sort of a lose lose situation in this case Sedans are on the decline.
- 25:53I mean, wagons are like dinosaurs.
- 25:55Like we mentioned, I mean, if you're not in the SUV, CUV market or EUV,
- 25:59I guess it would be these days.
- 26:01People aren't turning their attention to that.
- 26:02So Volkswagen coming to market with a full size sedan, EV, petrol, or otherwise,
- 26:08they already got burned by this.
- 26:10I think the ID seven is cool.
- 26:11I know you got to see them in person at CES a couple of years ago, but it's like,
- 26:16okay, daylight and a dollar short VW.
- 26:18I think the other bit of interesting VW news, which is late breaking as
- 26:22of today, basically, is apparently they're in some very strong negotiation,
- 26:28partnering discussions with India to, I guess, have a production facility there.
- 26:34So Tata's gonna make Volkswagens now?
- 26:38It's a very brief article.
- 26:40That just says they're in discussions about a passenger car production in India.
- 26:44Well, passenger car.
- 26:45I was thinking the big man trucks because Volkswagen owns M A N man.
- 26:49They own a lot of other stuff too.
- 26:51So I was like, okay, well maybe that could make sense, you know,
- 26:53because they do have a lot of lorries in India, stuff like that.
- 26:56I mean, it could make sense if it's the production facility
- 26:59for that geographic area, right?
- 27:01If they're trying to increase.
- 27:03Sales in India or even China
- 27:05or reduce shipping too, right?
- 27:07That's a whole right.
- 27:07Exactly.
- 27:08Like you're near to that market if you put it there
- 27:10and they've already done this before.
- 27:12So this isn't foreign to Volkswagen because they have a plant in China
- 27:16as well or multiple ones, I guess.
- 27:18But the funny part about that is if you look at some of the photographs, sometimes
- 27:22you're like, when was this photo taken?
- 27:24Because they're still building the quantum like from the 80s in China
- 27:29today, they call it the Shanghai.
- 27:30I'm sort of wondering like what retro Volkswagen are they going to
- 27:34build in India for the next 30 years?
- 27:36Maybe that's how we'll get new Chiracos or something, you know,
- 27:39they'll just be built in India.
- 27:40Hey, if they build a new Chiraco, hey, we'll build India wherever.
- 27:42Dude.
- 27:43Yeah.
- 27:43I would stand in line.
- 27:45Brand would, wait, how's that song go?
- 27:46I would walk 5,000 Miles . Yeah, I would do that for a Rocco.
- 27:52They've been teasing, you know, little things here and there.
- 27:54Like every couple years they drop it or there's a drawing or something.
- 27:58Oh, Rocco might be, you know, and everyone gets
- 28:00all in a tizzy.
- 28:00And then,
- 28:01no,
- 28:01I got to see street versions of the Rocco R when I was in Lama last year,
- 28:06and uh, everyone that went by it just.
- 28:08Soul crashing.
- 28:09I like, I could have this, but they won't bring it.
- 28:11Uh, no.
- 28:13Well, another thing that apparently is super disappointing, you know, we're
- 28:16talking about new cars that are going away, but there's also a shortage
- 28:20of new cars that people really want.
- 28:22Some clever gentleman out there decided that, well, you know what?
- 28:25He couldn't get a test drive in a Ford Maverick.
- 28:28So he just headed on down to his local U Haul.
- 28:311995, you can test drive a Maverick for an entire day.
- 28:35That's pretty clever.
- 28:36Yeah, well, you get an extended test drive.
- 28:38You can actually put it through some real world paces.
- 28:41And you didn't have to deal with the sales guy.
- 28:43It cost you 20 bucks.
- 28:44Yeah, I was like, here's 20 pounds salt, buddy.
- 28:46And I'm out of here.
- 28:47Go pick up some mulch at home depot.
- 28:49Oh, heck yeah.
- 28:50And that always baffled me this day and age, minimum 40, 50 grand.
- 28:54All right, let's go on this 10 minute test drive where you don't go on the highway,
- 28:57you go on the highway for like one exit, which is maybe a quarter of a mile.
- 29:00Go here.
- 29:01Oh, don't go over 25.
- 29:02You know, it's like.
- 29:03Get back.
- 29:03So what do you think you're ready to buy it?
- 29:05What?
- 29:05No,
- 29:06every now and then either you got a new salesperson or you
- 29:09find a decent there's a dollar.
- 29:10You can take it for a couple hours.
- 29:12Just sign this.
- 29:12Give me an insurance card.
- 29:13And there you go.
- 29:14But yeah, I don't think you'll find that this date is because you
- 29:16know, inventories are just nothing
- 29:18a little different in the exotic car market though, isn't it?
- 29:20You got the F 40, you push it about 14 feet.
- 29:23And then you ask the guy, so you want to buy it
- 29:25for 14 feet, maybe 14 inches.
- 29:29You know, talking about buying and selling cars, I've been saying for a while, I got
- 29:33to pull back on some previous episodes.
- 29:35Cause I am still very much enamored, smitten, if you will, not, not, not
- 29:40necessarily in love with, but I am still a huge fan of the Nissan 400 Z.
- 29:46And I've asked Brad, I've asked Tanya, I've asked William before in conversation.
- 29:49Have you seen one on the road lately?
- 29:51Yeah,
- 29:52one, right?
- 29:55They're just non existent.
- 29:57Here's the irony in all this.
- 29:58So we got Altimas that won't die.
- 30:00They'll be here at the turn of nuclear winter.
- 30:02We've got 400 Zs that we don't know if they're being built.
- 30:06And Nissan is telling dealerships to sell all their cars at a loss.
- 30:10So basically liquidate the inventory again, a power move by the French.
- 30:15I don't understand what the heck is going on at Nissan.
- 30:18Like they build some cool stuff.
- 30:20Why do people just not care?
- 30:23It's a really good question.
- 30:24Really?
- 30:25Really?
- 30:26I mean, you're right, actually.
- 30:28Let's go through some of them.
- 30:30We have the Altima.
- 30:31We have the Altima.
- 30:32We have the Gert Altima.
- 30:34. We have the Becky wants to go to the Altima.
- 30:37, you're right, there are so many different Nissans to choose from that it's shocking
- 30:45that people aren't getting the nude Z . And I don't know if it's, the
- 30:49fact is when you have such a limited.
- 30:51Choice in regards to models.
- 30:53I mean, cause you only have the couple, you know, to pick from.
- 30:55It's not like you got this breadth of like 20, 30 different models.
- 30:59You can, you know, stay in there.
- 31:00It's kind of like, well, Mr.
- 31:01Bishop, you really didn't feel that good of a car anyways, but same premise.
- 31:04When they had the Lancer, the Evo was outstanding.
- 31:07That's the thing though.
- 31:08Is this, I think if you just, you don't have that wide range of choices.
- 31:12Unless you have a very specific type of car, that's the only
- 31:16reason you're going to go there.
- 31:17You know, again, like Mitsubishi, the Lancer, but then, you
- 31:19know, Nissan, the 400Z.
- 31:20And the other thing is, I think the most 400s I've seen in any one
- 31:24place is they're actually running them in World Challenge right now.
- 31:27There's a handful of them there.
- 31:28I'm super excited about that.
- 31:30Like they've got them on track.
- 31:31The Nissans are doing well.
- 31:33It's not following that old adage of race on Sunday, sell on Monday.
- 31:38Nobody's run into a dealership.
- 31:40To buy a 400 Z.
- 31:41And it's just like compared to the Corvette, to the Porsches, to the
- 31:45Mustangs, to the Supra, to everything that's available right now, the Z
- 31:49is still a bargain and granted that drag race thing that Kamisa did
- 31:53against the Supra and the Mustang, it didn't really help the Z in any way.
- 31:57And, you know, they made all these excuses about, well, if it had better
- 31:59tires and if it had this and that, okay, it's big, it's heavy, whatever.
- 32:04But if you want to buy, and I've said it before, a modern Japanese.
- 32:09Slash French 928 brand tourer.
- 32:13The Z is the car to have, and it looks good.
- 32:16It's got good performance numbers.
- 32:17It might not be as good as a Corvette or whatever, but it depends on what you want.
- 32:21And that's the car as a sports car that I would take cross country.
- 32:25Like I've sat in one there.
- 32:26They're really comfortable.
- 32:27They're really nice.
- 32:28They're very well appointed, you know, you fit well, even if you're tall.
- 32:32Why not for 50 grand compared to other things you can buy?
- 32:36You
- 32:36know, you won't have any mechanical issues.
- 32:38They're, I don't want to say bulletproof, but built like a brick shithouse.
- 32:41I mean, they're just solid cars.
- 32:43It goes back to the three spoke steering wheel of the R32, and it's got
- 32:46the DNA of the Altima, right, Tonya?
- 32:48Yeah.
- 32:50I think I might have five.
- 32:51Found the problem.
- 32:52Okay.
- 32:52With what's going on in Nissan.
- 32:54First of all, they lost captain Marvel Brie Larson's out.
- 32:57So there's a whole new batch of 2024 commercials.
- 33:00Even though, as I said earlier, we're basically halfway through 2024
- 33:03at this point, but I was listening to this commercial because you
- 33:07can't watch streaming television anymore without commercials.
- 33:09It's just sort of a given it's everywhere.
- 33:11And I hear this in the background and the punchline to this new
- 33:14commercial, cause it's full of like nobodies and extras, right?
- 33:17Oh, that Sentra is what I need.
- 33:20And I'm like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, wait, wait, what?
- 33:22So I was like, I gotta go find this commercial.
- 33:25And I couldn't find it, but it led me down a rabbit hole,
- 33:29investigating the new Sentra.
- 33:30And I'm like, this is a car that I would like never look at, right?
- 33:33Back in the day in the 90s, When the Sentra was cool, like with the
- 33:36SCR model, and it would compete with smaller hot hatches and kind of
- 33:40sporty sedans that were out there.
- 33:42It was like, Oh yeah, Sentra, that's awesome.
- 33:43But they got bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger, right?
- 33:45So outside of the marketing woes that Nissan has, I think I found the problem.
- 33:51And I'm going to pose it to you guys as one of our guess who type of questions.
- 33:55How much horsepower Do you think a Sentra makes and how much do you think it weighs?
- 34:01The new one?
- 34:02Yes, the 2024 Sentra.
- 34:03It's the size of a Maxima, I think, or an Ultima, okay?
- 34:07So it's just an Ultima in disguise.
- 34:09So it probably weighs in the three thousands easily.
- 34:13Upper three thousands.
- 34:14Okay.
- 34:14Willie, what do you think it weighs?
- 34:154, 200 pounds.
- 34:16It's
- 34:16got about 135 horsepower.
- 34:20I'll be a little more generous.
- 34:22Let's say one 50.
- 34:26Well, what is it?
- 34:27Two 10
- 34:28official numbers from Nissan.
- 34:29It weighs 3, 122 pounds.
- 34:33Okay.
- 34:33Lighter than I thought
- 34:34at 149 horsepower.
- 34:37Oh,
- 34:38We were small part, we were close.
- 34:4090, I almost nailed it.
- 34:41Japanese engine though, pork numbers are down.
- 34:45Gotta rub
- 34:45the piss out of it.
- 34:46Is it a four cylinder or a
- 34:47three?
- 34:48Two liter, 16 valve, no turbo.
- 34:50It doesn't get out of its own way.
- 34:52You know, with that awesome Nissan CVT transmission, so it's like winding up
- 34:57the hamsters with bringers, bringers.
- 35:00I can only imagine what that's like to drive because I've driven
- 35:04the Lancer cross SUV thing and that was a miserable experience.
- 35:09Another vehicle that weighed about 3, 200 pounds, made it 150 horsepower.
- 35:12And to Tanya's point, it can't get out of its own way.
- 35:15So that's the thing.
- 35:16Give it 210, give it 225, 240, bump it up a little bit so that
- 35:21the driving experience aligns itself with the commercials.
- 35:24Cause if you listen to these commercials, it's like the sport tune handling and the
- 35:28precision shifting and the acceleration.
- 35:31149 horsepower does 85 with a tailwind and a Silverado pushing it.
- 35:36Are you kidding me?
- 35:41So did you guys hear about the money shift heard around the world?
- 35:45Yeah.
- 35:47Yeah.
- 35:47Can you believe this?
- 35:48So this guy apparently grabs like, I don't know, third gear instead of fifth
- 35:52gear in a crazy, like upshift, basically rubs the motor to like almost nine grand
- 35:58and to go to tells them it's going to cost 42, 000 to replace the engine.
- 36:02And I'm like, wait, doesn't the GR Corolla only cost like.
- 36:0540, 000.
- 36:06Yeah.
- 36:07How can it cost that much?
- 36:08I think that's a big F you from Toyota.
- 36:11Buy a new car.
- 36:12Yeah.
- 36:12They're not going to fix that under warranty.
- 36:14They're like, you're a putz go back to learning how to drive.
- 36:17Mistakes happen.
- 36:18Honest mistakes happen.
- 36:19But this is why I talk about, and I recently re released
- 36:22our time trial school.
- 36:24And in that There is a lesson in there about shifting.
- 36:28There's even a video that I have on our YouTube channel about this, about
- 36:31learning to change your hand position, especially when you're dealing with
- 36:35gears four, five, and six, being able to push it away from your body.
- 36:38I've seen so many people even make the mistake at the track
- 36:41where they go to go grab food.
- 36:42And they end up grabbing second.
- 36:43The next thing, you know, the motor's doing 11, 000 RPM and
- 36:47the car is tumbling ass over tea kettle down the front straightaway.
- 36:50And it's like, take your time.
- 36:52Those power shifts stuff you see on the drag racing cars,
- 36:56they're built to do that.
- 36:57Plus they're sequential gearboxes, you know, stuff like that, or those other,
- 37:01you know, multiple lever shifters.
- 37:02I forget what those things are called that they have, but a standard street car.
- 37:06You've already lost the race.
- 37:07If you think that power shifting from a stoplight is going to save
- 37:11you at the end of the day, either you got it or you don't, come on, guys.
- 37:17Save the clutch, be mechanically sympathetic, take it easy.
- 37:21Learn from this guy, 42 grand because he missed the shift.
- 37:25That's also why I think they should put manuals back in race cars, but that's
- 37:28a whole nother debate for another day.
- 37:30Well, that's what I've been saying for F1.
- 37:32Yes.
- 37:32Yeah.
- 37:32Right.
- 37:33Yes.
- 37:33But before we switch gears here, I want to take a moment to let
- 37:37you guys in on a little bit of a promo that we have going on.
- 37:41So our friend, professor John Summers, the motoring historian did some
- 37:45research on these oxido led headlights.
- 37:48And so I listened to episode 19 of the motoring historian and he was
- 37:52talking about this with GAMI and he's going to put them in the Mustang and
- 37:55this and that, and he's got a promo code and all this kind of thing.
- 37:58And so I was like, you know what?
- 37:59I too suffer from the same problems John did.
- 38:02So if you love driving your eighties, nineties, or two thousands classic
- 38:06with those terrible fogged over plastic headlights and all the woes that we
- 38:10have, some of us change them over to European glass lenses and whatnot,
- 38:13if you're tired of having to run home early from the car show, because your
- 38:17headlights are terrible, or if your car is fast enough that you can actually
- 38:21out drive the shine of your headlights.
- 38:23These headlights are something you should really consider.
- 38:26I bought a set, I put them in my car, and they made a huge difference.
- 38:31I posted the before and after on our old Instagram at GrandTouringMotorsports,
- 38:36so check out the pictures.
- 38:37But if you want better headlights, Without needing special ballast, without
- 38:42rewiring, without any hassle, these literally drop in, they're designed to
- 38:46replace your brand name Sylvania's and whatever that you have in your car today.
- 38:51Grab a set of these Oxedo LED headlights, use the code motoringhistorian That's
- 38:57all one word motoring historian to get 15 percent off your order of
- 39:02auxedo led replacement headlights and see the difference for yourself.
- 39:05Are you one of these people now that I hate on the road that has
- 39:08these blinding piercing headlights?
- 39:10Maybe, but I can see and my test drive was at night in the rain and it was glorious.
- 39:17I thought I was driving my Jeep, which actually has HIDs.
- 39:20It was awesome.
- 39:21I was like, I haven't been able to see that well out of a 20 plus year
- 39:24old Volkswagen in a very long time.
- 39:27And they weren't expensive at all.
- 39:28I mean, 50, 60 bucks for a set of headlights, headlight bulbs.
- 39:31Plus then you take the discount off that.
- 39:33It was awesome.
- 39:34Well, it's time we switch to random new EVs and concept cars.
- 39:38What you got for me, Tanya?
- 39:39I've got a French one for you.
- 39:41Okay.
- 39:41Okay.
- 39:42All right.
- 39:42I'm excited.
- 39:43You won't be.
- 39:43It's your favorite French car of all time.
- 39:45No, come on.
- 39:47It's a Citroen.
- 39:48Oh, god damn it.
- 39:50Tell me it's not the pill bug.
- 39:52Yes, of course it is.
- 39:53Oh my god.
- 39:54There's discussion that the DS brand No.
- 39:58No.
- 39:58Is going to
- 39:59La la la la la la
- 40:01la la la la la la la.
- 40:02Come back.
- 40:02La la la, I'm not listening.
- 40:04Be reborn, if you will.
- 40:06La la la la la.
- 40:07This time Nope.
- 40:08With the electrical fairy's assistance.
- 40:10Oh,
- 40:10come on.
- 40:11But they go on further to say that something to the effect that Basically,
- 40:15they could share the platform with the new Dodge Charger Daytona.
- 40:19So what are you saying?
- 40:19It's like some DS?
- 40:22Does that change your opinion?
- 40:23The pill bug has turned into a caterpillar.
- 40:26Oh my god.
- 40:27It is sprouting its wings.
- 40:28It shall soon fly like a butterfly.
- 40:31I get it.
- 40:32It's the car that saved De Gaulle and blah blah blah and all this.
- 40:36I hate these things.
- 40:37I hate them with a passion.
- 40:38If I could obliterate them, I would.
- 40:41I would find such sport in doing antics like Top Gear did with Citroen DSs.
- 40:45I just, there's something about that car that just gets under my skin.
- 40:49And to hear that it's coming back now, now, now you've ruined it for me.
- 40:52Would you drive cross country in that?
- 40:55Or the cyber truck.
- 40:56Oh, okay.
- 40:57Damn it.
- 40:57Why you got to do that?
- 41:00I do the citron and then drive it into the ocean.
- 41:04See Williams on my wavelength.
- 41:06Cause I was thinking the same thing.
- 41:07Am I allowed to just beat the heck out of it?
- 41:10Throughout this entire trip.
- 41:11Can I burn it at the end?
- 41:12Find a pier somewhere, just right in the Pacific.
- 41:16Nukes of hazard style.
- 41:17Just bow
- 41:18and attach me.
- 41:19Let's see if this thing can float.
- 41:20It
- 41:22looks like an upside down boat.
- 41:24Yup.
- 41:26So much, so much with a passion.
- 41:28I love a lot of other French cars.
- 41:30DS.
- 41:32It's all downhill, but I digress.
- 41:34We gotta switch to Brad's favorite section of the drive through Lost and Found,
- 41:38but this time he's not here to tell us about all the cars on the internet
- 41:42that are still sitting on dealership.
- 41:43Lots considered air quotes new like, you know, the 20 16 4 GT
- 41:48for $850,000 and things like that.
- 41:50But instead we have William.
- 41:51So William, what's hot in your part of the world?
- 41:54Any interesting cars for sale in the market right now?
- 41:57You know what?
- 41:57It's funny is our friend Don over at Garage Style Magazine a few months back.
- 42:02He had messaged me because he had come across, it was a 1970s, early, some four
- 42:08door family grocery, he's looking for a car for one of his kids, low miles,
- 42:12reasonably priced, like 5, 500 bucks.
- 42:14And I was like, are you close to wherever this thing was at?
- 42:17And he goes, yeah, I'm only like, you know, hour and a half.
- 42:19So I'll go look at it.
- 42:20So that kind of opened up the floodgates and really kind of go
- 42:23into Facebook Marketplace every day and like see what's out there.
- 42:27And I got to tell you, I mean, you hope they're legit, but there's some
- 42:31really cool old caddies, you know, the old Buicks, the old four doors big,
- 42:36just bark allowance, your front seats.
- 42:39For road tripping.
- 42:40Yeah.
- 42:40It's got 150 horsepower, but it's got like, you know, 300 foot pound of torque.
- 42:44How big is that motor again?
- 42:46Seven, eight or nine liters.
- 42:47I'd
- 42:47say it's probably 10 liters getting about maybe eight miles to the gallon.
- 42:52You mean gallons per mile.
- 42:53Yeah.
- 42:53Yeah.
- 42:54Talking about going across country, doing some road tripping.
- 42:57There's your rides right there.
- 42:58The thing will cruise all day long, 89 miles an hour.
- 43:01Just revs will be at about 1200, 1400.
- 43:03I mean, it's nice and low.
- 43:05It's quiet, just smooth.
- 43:07The suspension on that thing, you could go over a parking
- 43:10curb and you wouldn't feel it.
- 43:11It's fun you bring that up because that reminds me of the episode that we did
- 43:14with Bill Warner from Amelia Island.
- 43:16He was in the original one lap.
- 43:18He's done the cannonball, you know, those kinds of things.
- 43:20But he talked about the original one lap.
- 43:22And he did it in a Lincoln that they modified for that.
- 43:25And I thought that was really cool.
- 43:26And back then one lap of America was one lap of America.
- 43:30Yeah.
- 43:30Not like they do today where it's like sort of these cloverleafs
- 43:33around South Bend, Indiana.
- 43:35Yeah.
- 43:35I think you're onto something.
- 43:36Those old American kind of sofas on wheels, especially old station
- 43:40wagons, like a grand marquee.
- 43:41They like the family truckster.
- 43:43Those are great cross country vehicles.
- 43:45People might get a little leery because they're saying, well, you know, it's, in
- 43:48the winter, snort, that's stuff like that.
- 43:50But you have a lot of those where it was grandma's car, you know, grandpa's car.
- 43:54They didn't drive in the winter.
- 43:55They maintain those things meticulously.
- 43:57They got all the records.
- 43:59I mean, you come across some really cool stuff.
- 44:02Go out there between five and 10 grand.
- 44:04You can get something really cool.
- 44:06That's going to drive me and you can work on it yourself.
- 44:08It's so simple.
- 44:09You don't have all these electronics.
- 44:11You have all this crap in there.
- 44:12You can just lift up the hood and you can see everything.
- 44:14There's the motor, there's the battery, everything's there.
- 44:17New car side, though.
- 44:18You go buy a dealer's lot.
- 44:19They don't have any cars.
- 44:20Rent them from U Haul, right?
- 44:22Yeah.
- 44:22Go to U Haul and rent there.
- 44:23This next one, I need somebody to explain to me.
- 44:26I don't get this.
- 44:27I mean, we talked about TikTokers and YouTubers doing crazy stuff with like
- 44:31the Hummer and some of these supercars.
- 44:33They end up wrecking them about 10 seconds after they get them.
- 44:35But is this new math?
- 44:37These stupid people that don't understand how interest rates work.
- 44:40So the headline reads TikToker gets rid of her Chevy Tahoe
- 44:44after paying 50, 000 in interest.
- 44:4610,
- 44:46000 only came off the principal and kind of goes into.
- 44:51I guess you would say math skills.
- 44:53They were able to justify their 1, 400 a month payment for the tile, but
- 44:58they said the 1, 600 a month for her husband's Silverado, which was a better
- 45:02vehicle newer, they didn't make sense.
- 45:04So all that extra 200 a month, that puts you over the top.
- 45:08Because TikTok wasn't paying for the Silverado.
- 45:10It was only paying for the tile.
- 45:12Yeah.
- 45:12But here's the thing though, is cause she was paying what 10 percent or
- 45:15something interest on a love set.
- 45:17This was three years ago when rates were cheap or anything like that.
- 45:20I hate to say what, but someone saw her coming and just stuck her.
- 45:25You shouldn't get paid more than 4%, especially on a new vehicle.
- 45:28Okay.
- 45:28And this is where Brad usually chimes in.
- 45:30Cause you know, he's a finance guy and he's looking at all this kind of stuff
- 45:33and he's done loans before and all that.
- 45:34And I think, and this is just me sort of looking from the outside, If your line of
- 45:39income is tick tock, I'm not saying that was her primary line of income, but if I'm
- 45:44looking at your debt to income ratio and the stability of your income, tick tock is
- 45:49sort of fleeting in comparison to having, I don't know, like a real job with a real
- 45:53paycheck and a w two where they can say, okay, well, you're making this income.
- 45:56much and you have collateral and you have this and you have that, but if
- 45:59you're basing it solely on crowdfunding and crowdsourcing and social media
- 46:03and stuff, that's a high risk loan for a 900, 000 vehicle, right?
- 46:09Oh yeah.
- 46:09You're going to get cracked on that interest rate.
- 46:11There's always, you know, all those different ways to skin a
- 46:13cat, go get a equity line, home equity loan, do something that's,
- 46:17you're not killing yourself, but having to keep up with the Joneses.
- 46:20So she's doing that through TikTok.
- 46:22Why did you need a 2022 loaded up Chevy Tahoe when your TikTok stuff
- 46:29is nothing to do with vehicle?
- 46:30I mean, why?
- 46:31For the gram.
- 46:32Yeah.
- 46:33And then the husband goes out and gets himself a brand new truck to boot too.
- 46:37I never advocate for this because especially as a collector, I
- 46:40mean, you know this William, I'm like lease versus buy.
- 46:43You can make those arguments.
- 46:44But these days the cars are so expensive.
- 46:46She's only had this thing like a year and a half or two years.
- 46:48You paid 50, 000 in interest.
- 46:50I'm going to say the simple math says that actually leasing it for the 18 months
- 46:55that she had it or whatever would have been more sound and fiscally responsible
- 47:00than the way this was carried out.
- 47:02I'm going to have to just never buy a new car because you're always going
- 47:04to lose right off the bat anyways.
- 47:06I mean, the last new car I ever bought off the floor with my C4
- 47:10vet, that was the last one I got.
- 47:12And that was just like, Hey, I want to get a six speed, but
- 47:14you know, it's just, I was 24.
- 47:16I didn't give a shit.
- 47:16So I was like, Hey, I'm getting this thing, but it doesn't make sense.
- 47:20Financially economically, just the way the numbers work.
- 47:22Yeah.
- 47:22It's like, to your point is lease it best is, you know, you look at what the
- 47:25residual is and everything like that.
- 47:27You look at all the angles of it, position yourself better at the end
- 47:30of a 36 month lease, what have you.
- 47:32You can kind of being ahead on it.
- 47:34I've seen instances, I'm sure Brad can concur with this too, as well.
- 47:37If he was on his.
- 47:38The argument where, when a lease was up, the person was so in the positive
- 47:43in regards to equity wise that they had in the car, because they went up
- 47:46in value or whatever, that, that the dealer was basically forcing them to tell
- 47:48them, no, you got to turn the car in.
- 47:50Nope, we're taking it.
- 47:51They wouldn't let them buy it.
- 47:52It's like, yeah, they're like, no, it's right here in the contract.
- 47:54And seeing those types of scenarios as well.
- 47:57You know, you really got to go in and understand what you're looking
- 47:59at, especially when you're talking what cars are valued at today,
- 48:02what you're paying, having a four figure a month car payment, 1, 400.
- 48:06I mean, that's a mortgage payment for a majority of people.
- 48:08You said something really important, William.
- 48:10And I need to pull on this thread.
- 48:11You said C4 Corvette.
- 48:13And spoiler alert for our audience out there.
- 48:16We're going to talk about Corvettes more at a future episode together, but
- 48:19I want to remind our audience too, if you go back in our catalog and listen
- 48:23to some of the, what should I buy?
- 48:24As the Williams has been on, he was also a Fiero owner.
- 48:28So we've gone from the Fiero to a C4 Corvette.
- 48:30So did the mullet get longer or shorter between those two
- 48:34cars?
- 48:35It went from Mazda GLC to Fiero GT.
- 48:38To Mustang GT.
- 48:40Oh,
- 48:42cruising in your 5.
- 48:430.
- 48:43Longer, longer, longer.
- 48:47Going on top, longer in the back.
- 48:49Oh, yeah.
- 48:50Got worse and worse, you know.
- 48:51Then you get into the vet.
- 48:53That's when you get the chrome jacket with the Corvette down the
- 48:56arm and all the attire go balls out.
- 48:58Your first pair of new balances.
- 49:00Did you get this?
- 49:01Oh, yeah.
- 49:03Thank you.
- 49:03My jeans up to my nipples
- 49:06Before we go too far afield, I think we would be remiss
- 49:10if we didn't talk about tesla
- 49:14Well, do we have to
- 49:15again some more This is a staple Within the show now, it's its own thing.
- 49:22It has morphed mutated
- 49:23executives quitting.
- 49:25That's Kind of old news already at this point.
- 49:27I mean, that already happened before they laid off a bunch of people by having them
- 49:31just show up and their badge not working.
- 49:32We covered that last time.
- 49:34The other thing that I love, Mr.
- 49:36Musk, you know, I guess you'd say a brilliant move, charging, you know,
- 49:39someone 24, 000 for yourself driving and all these things, but pay me now for it.
- 49:44We'll get it to you eventually.
- 49:45Oh, but when we do, you're gonna have to pay us more money.
- 49:49It's unbelievable how brainwashed these people are in regards to
- 49:54these Teslas because they tolerate it I wouldn't tolerate that if I
- 49:58was getting a card I paid for that.
- 50:00Where is it?
- 50:00And that's just it I would love to know why they're quitting this
- 50:04Elon on a tear Is he just firing people in a very apprentice sort
- 50:08of Trump Ian way or whatever?
- 50:10Something else is going on or is the writing on the wall that
- 50:14Cybertruck Elon was quoted as saying was going to bury them.
- 50:17And it's getting worse and the stock is tumbling and all this stuff is happening.
- 50:21And where is the cheap 30, 000 people's EV, the model two and
- 50:26all this hokey pokey, and it's like, what exactly is going on?
- 50:29I wrote in a Tesla just a couple of weeks ago when I was in Tampa and I
- 50:34pointed to the person I was riding with.
- 50:36We were in an Uber and it's a brand new Tesla model.
- 50:39Why, as a matter of fact, I never ridden in a model Y and I pointed.
- 50:42And he just nods his head and the whole seal of the door was like coming off.
- 50:47And when I got out of the car, it actually caught me and I pulled
- 50:51it out and I had to put it back.
- 50:52And I'm like, car's trying to strangle me.
- 50:54I was like, what this thing's I've never experienced that in any other car
- 50:57where this stuff is like falling apart.
- 50:59On me.
- 51:00And when I looked at it, it was like that door seal wasn't even formed correctly.
- 51:04It didn't meet up with the interior components.
- 51:06And I'm like, you pay all that money.
- 51:09Is it a status thing?
- 51:10Like, I don't understand.
- 51:11Think about
- 51:12that.
- 51:12What other
- 51:12brand, if you bought a Ford or anything like that, and that was
- 51:16happening, just imagine recalls everything, just the backlash.
- 51:19Happens with Tesla.
- 51:20It's like, oh, that's just a Tesla.
- 51:22I don't get it.
- 51:23I mean, I would be furious But they just seem to well, that's just the way a Tesla
- 51:27is, you know, it's Built quality customer service sucks and it's horrendous.
- 51:32I don't know.
- 51:33I just don't get it.
- 51:34I don't know how people tolerate I just It's unfortunate.
- 51:40This next one's pretty unfortunate too.
- 51:41Remember I talked about being in San Francisco and people were like, you know,
- 51:46we'd have to worry about self driving because soon we'll be communicating
- 51:49with our Teslas through the neural link.
- 51:52I just want to say.
- 51:54Topia
- 51:54fail, fail, fail.
- 51:57They haven't given up yet.
- 51:58Yes, their first human implant has had some difficulties.
- 52:03So apparently they put this little chip in you that has all these little thin
- 52:08diameter wires that they poke into your brain and apparently Like 85 percent of
- 52:14the wires have like retracted out from.
- 52:16They were rejected by the body.
- 52:18They were pointed into the motor cortex and 85 percent of that have
- 52:21retracted from the motor cortex.
- 52:23So they're there to send electrical impulses and stimulate motor function.
- 52:28And it was put into a quadriplegic.
- 52:30It made me have a flashback or think of the big bang episode when Wolowitz
- 52:34had that robotic arm and it got stuck.
- 52:36Duck on his, uh, you know, Willie, his member.
- 52:39Yes.
- 52:39So I'm thinking the neural link is going to have that.
- 52:46William,
- 52:46are you having a stroke or a software malfunction?
- 52:53Did you try turning it off?
- 52:55I'm still shocked that they got FDA approval for human trials.
- 53:04Are we sure about this or is this more musk money?
- 53:07Self certification there again.
- 53:10Allegedly it has FDA approval.
- 53:12Now all disclosures around that been shared unclear.
- 53:17So I don't know.
- 53:19It's surprising.
- 53:20Cause I mean, that's a pretty serious.
- 53:22apparatus.
- 53:23I mean, it's pretty serious.
- 53:24You're manipulating the brain to have gotten approval with God
- 53:27knows what pre testing, right?
- 53:29Because it would have had to have proven itself in some other form that would
- 53:33have been part of criteria is they would have had to have some sort of
- 53:35trial non human that showed efficacy.
- 53:38It was a rat.
- 53:39We all know it.
- 53:40Of
- 53:40course it would have been.
- 53:41Yeah.
- 53:42Like a
- 53:42microchip on its head.
- 53:43Yeah.
- 53:44Well, we're being Told or what is being disclosed is what half a percent?
- 53:51It'd probably be scary some of the stuff all the documentation
- 53:54and what's been going on with that
- 53:55If we want to get to star trek level borg nanomites, this is the
- 53:59way we got to go there, right?
- 54:01It's got to start somewhere and then you know miniaturization and perfection
- 54:04and murphy's law and all that.
- 54:05I mean That's what
- 54:06kind of this is
- 54:08Tinfoil hat wearing conspiracy theorists also believe we got
- 54:12nanomites through the COVID vaccine, but you know, hey, whatever.
- 54:15No, no, no, Bill Gates.
- 54:16I've got Microsoft inside me.
- 54:20Well, if it's anything else, like older versions of windows, it's
- 54:22destined to blue screen and not work.
- 54:24So it doesn't matter.
- 54:26Nothing's gone wrong.
- 54:27Thank you.
- 54:31Your face permanently goes into that.
- 54:33We scream, you know, smiley wink, and then you sit there and it makes that sound.
- 54:40What would a Tesla conversation be without some legal troubles?
- 54:46They're constantly in legal struggles.
- 54:48Is it over their certifications?
- 54:51Probably.
- 54:52I wouldn't be surprised if that's out there too.
- 54:53We just don't know it.
- 54:54Right.
- 54:55But I mean, they're still under litigation, etc.
- 54:58around the false claims of the self driving fully autonomous.
- 55:02Blah, blah, blah.
- 55:02BSBS, their line.
- 55:04BSBS, their line.
- 55:05Come
- 55:05on, this makes you happy.
- 55:07You were on this soapbox for like three years straight.
- 55:10Like, come on, people.
- 55:12Now we have a, what, class action lawsuit?
- 55:14Well, I want to see it actually happen.
- 55:17Somebody sent Tanya the 12 that they're going to receive from this lawsuit, right?
- 55:23Have you guys ever done a class action lawsuit?
- 55:26All this rigmarole and all this stuff.
- 55:28And then you end up with a check for like 4 and 37 cents.
- 55:31You're like, really?
- 55:32That was so not worth it.
- 55:34Yeah.
- 55:34It shows up five years later too.
- 55:36Yeah.
- 55:36You totally forgot about it.
- 55:37You're like, what's this even about?
- 55:38Like, I don't care.
- 55:39I did one just for that purpose to find out.
- 55:42I think it came back to like a dollar something.
- 55:43Oh, it's ridiculous.
- 55:45Yeah, it's like, what's the point?
- 55:46You gotta figure that's what those lawyers are hoping for, is no one bothers with it.
- 55:49So it's just
- 55:49more money for them.
- 55:50That was like Dieselgate.
- 55:52They were buying back all the Volkswagens, and then they were like, So, Bosch, what
- 55:55are you gonna do to make people whole?
- 55:57Well, here's a 500 check.
- 55:59You're like, wait, what?
- 56:02Excuse me?
- 56:03It's better than zero, but still, I was like, Fine, whatever.
- 56:06Tesla news always sort of lowers my expectations.
- 56:15There's always a Tesla story that sort of crosses the boundary between Tesla
- 56:21gate and what we call low E here in the studio or lowered expectations.
- 56:25And this one.
- 56:26I have to give a huge shout out to the special guest on
- 56:30the drive through a ways back.
- 56:31He's been a longtime fan of the show and supporter of break fix through Patreon.
- 56:36Mr.
- 56:36Mark Hewitt brought us this gem of Tesla news.
- 56:40You could see Tanya's face right now.
- 56:44Come on.
- 56:45It's
- 56:45unfortunate.
- 56:48You got to get some t shirts maybe with that on there.
- 56:51It's unfortunate.
- 56:54Unfortunate state of society.
- 56:56This poor individual.
- 56:58It was time to run a firmware update on the car.
- 57:01I guess they were inside of it at the time.
- 57:03And okay.
- 57:04Update now.
- 57:05Except I believe when the Teslas are doing their updates and whatnot,
- 57:08basically disables, uh, Everything, essentially, all the electronics get
- 57:11paused, you're not supposed to drive the car, you're basically not supposed
- 57:13to do anything with it, I don't think you're supposed to engage anything.
- 57:17So, I think they quite literally took that to be, I'm gonna sit in the car this whole
- 57:22time, it's California, it's hot outside, the windows are up, you know, the doors
- 57:29are closed, we all know what happens.
- 57:31in the middle of the day to the interior of a car.
- 57:34Okay.
- 57:36The three digit temperatures it reaches and she's in there sweltering, dying.
- 57:40It was a sauna.
- 57:42Chick fil a
- 57:42orders stayed nice and hot.
- 57:44Oh my God.
- 57:45Except for that milkshake became
- 57:47hot chocolate.
- 57:47Curdled a little bit.
- 57:48Well, here's the thing though.
- 57:49She's gotten what?
- 57:5030 million views on it?
- 57:51Something like that?
- 57:52Yeah.
- 57:53And you got to wonder like, How much of this is staged BS?
- 57:57You know what I mean?
- 57:58You can't trust half these videos you see on TikTok anymore
- 58:01because it's like get real.
- 58:02This is acting.
- 58:03Yes.
- 58:03And maybe you could be ignorant to the fact that Teslas
- 58:06have manual door releases.
- 58:08You don't need the electronics to work.
- 58:10Like it's the one safety feature I guess that they have.
- 58:14That in an event of an emergency you aren't trapped inside of it.
- 58:18Like there's this thing called an old fashioned door handle.
- 58:21And you could release yourself?
- 58:22The driver could have done this that whole time.
- 58:24Maybe they didn't know it was a feature.
- 58:26I wouldn't have sat there going into, uh, heat stress, heat stroke,
- 58:31while my freaking car is updating.
- 58:33Here's your license.
- 58:34Tesla offers manual door releases for situations with depleted power.
- 58:39But Janelle opted to wait, fearing potential damage to her car.
- 58:43How long
- 58:43did she opt to wait?
- 58:44At least 24 minutes, because allegedly that was how long
- 58:47the update was going to take.
- 58:49If that's 24 minutes in computer time, that was anywhere from
- 58:5224 minutes to like three hours.
- 58:55Yeah.
- 58:55We've all done Windows updates before.
- 58:57That is 100 percent accurate.
- 58:59Then she makes the comma.
- 59:00She goes, inside my car, it's 103 degrees.
- 59:02She goes, so I'm slightly freaking out.
- 59:05I hope I don't run out of air.
- 59:06I'll show you me.
- 59:07You can't go and pull that handle that you're aware of that.
- 59:09Oh, my
- 59:10God.
- 59:12And so she ended up being in there for 40 minutes.
- 59:14Yeah.
- 59:15At 115 degrees.
- 59:17Probably she didn't pass out again.
- 59:19Is this BS?
- 59:20She had like a cooler of water in there and she's
- 59:24Again, it's a sauna.
- 59:25Yeah, you start looking at this stuff and you're really kind of like,
- 59:27come on, you look, okay, how many followers did you gain out of that?
- 59:30I mean, cause then, you know, in their mind they're thinking, Oh wow, I got 30
- 59:34million or even if it was half of that.
- 59:35Okay.
- 59:36I got to do something else now.
- 59:37They're going to do something else and try and get it.
- 59:39Well, we're going to talk about one of those fools in a minute too.
- 59:41So let's not get too far ahead of ourselves.
- 59:44This next one must make you smile, Tanya.
- 59:46How did you miss this?
- 59:47I think it happened so fast that unless you were really acutely watching one
- 59:53of the episodes of The Good Place, you just would have missed it.
- 59:55And what happened?
- 59:56They were foreshadowing the dumpster fire that is the Cybertruck by literally having
- 1:00:01a picture of the Cybertruck, a billboard picture above a lit on fire dumpster.
- 1:00:07And they sent it to the bad place.
- 1:00:10I love it.
- 1:00:10It's hilarious.
- 1:00:12How prophetic is that?
- 1:00:15It's perfect.
- 1:00:15I'm sad.
- 1:00:16I
- 1:00:16need to go
- 1:00:16back and
- 1:00:17watch that episode.
- 1:00:18This next one had me going,
- 1:00:23so did you see this bug?
- 1:00:25I didn't.
- 1:00:26I never listened to it, but I saw it.
- 1:00:28Okay.
- 1:00:2974 Volkswagen Super Beetle that they converted to an EV.
- 1:00:32I mean, that's been going on since the beginning of time.
- 1:00:35I don't have a problem with that.
- 1:00:36EV West has been put in EV packs.
- 1:00:38And Porsche's and VW's for forever.
- 1:00:40Right.
- 1:00:40But you pop the hood at the car show and you look in there and you see a
- 1:00:45milk jug strapped to a cross beam.
- 1:00:48And you say to yourself, what the hell is that?
- 1:00:50Like, I mean, the old days as a racer, you're like, it wasn't uncommon to see
- 1:00:53like a Foster's can and somebody's engine compartment using it for like overflow
- 1:00:57for antifreeze or the vapor blowout from like the valve cover, you know,
- 1:01:01with the oil and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:01:03So, okay, fine.
- 1:01:04Milk jug is an alternative too.
- 1:01:06What did this ingenious, clever automotive enthusiast do with this milk jug?
- 1:01:11Little flappy handles on it and what it just goes like
- 1:01:15It makes it sound like the bug is idling with a flat four.
- 1:01:18So is he in the car like pulling a lever and just making it
- 1:01:21go stop, stop, stop, stop?
- 1:01:22Got
- 1:01:23a little electric motor that's running off the batteries.
- 1:01:25It's like a child's toy.
- 1:01:27It sits there and it bangs on the milk jug and it makes it sound like it's idling.
- 1:01:30But the best part is if you watch the video, the guy's like at the
- 1:01:33very end, he's like Rev it up.
- 1:01:37I'm like, Oh my God, this was definitely low e for sure.
- 1:01:41I'm like, Oh, but you know, good on him.
- 1:01:43I mean, we're talking about it, aren't we?
- 1:01:45Yeah.
- 1:01:46Speaking of talking about things, I hate talking about this next one.
- 1:01:49You don't like talking about it because Whistlin Diesel's involved.
- 1:01:51Cause he's kind of moron.
- 1:01:53This is the guy, Tanya, that puts the wagon wheels on the Hellcat
- 1:01:57and turn the Tesla upside down.
- 1:01:59He's the one that cut the mirrors off of that Ferrari.
- 1:02:02Like, I wonder what this is going to be like.
- 1:02:03He did it with a sawzall.
- 1:02:05I'm like, come
- 1:02:05on.
- 1:02:06Put his F8 out in a cornfield,
- 1:02:08drive around and burn to the ground.
- 1:02:09And it's
- 1:02:09like, it must be nice to have more money.
- 1:02:11Where does he get the money to destroy this stuff?
- 1:02:15Got
- 1:02:15millions.
- 1:02:1612 year olds on YouTube watching his videos and Google pays him.
- 1:02:21Blah.
- 1:02:21I'm trying to remember how many he's got.
- 1:02:23Just crap.
- 1:02:24I think it's like 20 million.
- 1:02:25So he's
- 1:02:26got, well, he's got one less.
- 1:02:28So what's
- 1:02:29this latest one that's saying his cameraman?
- 1:02:31Yeah, and I can relate to this
- 1:02:36because when I saw this, I kind of chuckled because since I have, you know,
- 1:02:41we have our event coming up here soon, uh, end of July, he was putting together
- 1:02:45the cars and coffee types of events.
- 1:02:47You know, you just kind of, hey, here's a place to meet everything that Bob was, is,
- 1:02:51you know, he was getting, you know, people leaving burnouts, everything like that.
- 1:02:54The police were trying to find some way to get him.
- 1:02:57He's the blame.
- 1:02:58He's the one organizing everything like that.
- 1:03:00They went after him for organizing these events, some about inciting riots.
- 1:03:06So they went hardcore, like way to the top.
- 1:03:09And it's like, are you kidding me?
- 1:03:11I mean, it's like, DA in this situation doing this because it's like, okay,
- 1:03:14you're just a real prick and either you got a lot of time on your hands
- 1:03:18or something like that, but all this kid did, or guy, whatever you
- 1:03:20want to call it, just organized some cars and coffee type events.
- 1:03:23They got pissed off because you know, business around the place,
- 1:03:27people even doing burnouts or that.
- 1:03:28So.
- 1:03:29They went after him and it's sad.
- 1:03:31You know, at first it was, you kind of chuckled about it, but then all
- 1:03:34of a sudden it got pretty damn real when the charges got filed and he's
- 1:03:37looking at five years in prison and I'm trying to remember what the fine was.
- 1:03:40Six digit figure.
- 1:03:42The whistling diesel guy or
- 1:03:44the camera man,
- 1:03:44camera guy.
- 1:03:45Oh, so the camera guy of whistling.
- 1:03:47So it's not technically associated with the whistling diesel guy.
- 1:03:50You would think, all right, I'm whistling diesel and this is my camera guy, whatnot.
- 1:03:54Hey, I got your back, man.
- 1:03:55Don't worry about it.
- 1:03:56Whenever we'll pay it by what?
- 1:03:58Not once have I seen anywhere has Winston Diesel stepped up and says,
- 1:04:01Hey man, I got this, you know, I want you to take care of that.
- 1:04:04Not once.
- 1:04:05It's just like, you're on your own.
- 1:04:06Fucking rude.
- 1:04:07Speaking of rude, this next one got under my skin pretty hard and it
- 1:04:11should upset pretty much every petrol head on the face of the planet.
- 1:04:15Once you read this article study links preference for loud cars to
- 1:04:20some unsurprising personality traits.
- 1:04:23And I'm going to sum this up by saying that some professor somewhere doing a
- 1:04:27study of some things and this and that they surveyed X amount of small portion
- 1:04:31of people and said that basically if you like the sound of the exhaust on
- 1:04:35your Porsche, Mustang, AMG, Mercedes, VR6, it doesn't matter what it is.
- 1:04:40You're either a sadist or a psychopath.
- 1:04:43I was like, excuse me.
- 1:04:44What?
- 1:04:46First I was like, is this a freaking April fool's article?
- 1:04:49Cause I was like, there's no way this is real science.
- 1:04:52And there's words thrown in here, Machiavellian and like all this.
- 1:04:57I'm like, uh, what bookworm wrote this?
- 1:05:00Like, have you ever been.
- 1:05:01To attract a, have you experienced what motorsports is about?
- 1:05:05Why people might like loud cars.
- 1:05:07And I'm not saying they need to be loud to the point that they're obnoxious because
- 1:05:11there is a modicum of just overbearing.
- 1:05:15Some engines can be really annoying when they're uncorked, but some of
- 1:05:19them are just absolutely delightful.
- 1:05:21And there's an Instagram response to this that I thought was absolutely amazing.
- 1:05:26And the Senator is quoted in this Instagram reel as saying.
- 1:05:30Modified exhaust systems serve no purpose other than to create
- 1:05:35fear, chaos, and intimidation.
- 1:05:37And there's like a news report, actual car fans.
- 1:05:39And then it's a 911 GT3 RS.
- 1:05:53Do it just a flat out burnout from the start line.
- 1:05:56And it just sounds glorious.
- 1:05:58I was like, amen, brother.
- 1:06:00That is the response to this.
- 1:06:02Like throw all your exhaust sounds at these people because to us and
- 1:06:06correct me if I'm wrong, it's music.
- 1:06:08Is there anything like a multi Weber B12 Ferrari?
- 1:06:12Oh, yeah.
- 1:06:13To your point, like it's almost like it's a musical note.
- 1:06:16It's a symphony.
- 1:06:17How is that a dark trait?
- 1:06:19You know, your likeness to, you know, a symphony or to music and
- 1:06:22you're trying to say dark trait.
- 1:06:23It's just, those are people starting these things.
- 1:06:26They already have ill, bad intent going in to try and prove their opinion.
- 1:06:31It's unfortunate.
- 1:06:33Where did you pick these 500?
- 1:06:35It's like the results were preordained in regards to this.
- 1:06:37They just went through the hoops or did what they had to do to make it look
- 1:06:41legit.
- 1:06:41Somebody's grant money paid for that.
- 1:06:43That's all I'm saying.
- 1:06:44Exactly.
- 1:06:45They got a 50 or 60, 000 grant.
- 1:06:47Here you go.
- 1:06:48Research this for a year.
- 1:06:49I got so many things I could say to this, but just that
- 1:06:529
- 1:06:5311 amen.
- 1:06:54That's, that's it, man.
- 1:06:55I mean, there's plenty of other great sounding cars out there, but yeah, if
- 1:06:58you don't get it, you don't get it.
- 1:07:00Right.
- 1:07:00I mean, it is what it is.
- 1:07:02This next reel on Instagram.
- 1:07:05See, that's an example of a psychopath.
- 1:07:08I cannot believe
- 1:07:09this.
- 1:07:10Like, what the is that?
- 1:07:12How long are those pipes?
- 1:07:13Can it actually get under the stoplight?
- 1:07:16I was wondering that
- 1:07:17too.
- 1:07:17Because those things look like they're 20 feet tall.
- 1:07:20I mean, it could be the camera angle with all due respect to perspective, but.
- 1:07:25So, okay, I know the JDM guys are into doing all sorts of crazy
- 1:07:30stuff, but here we have a new Zupra, the new Supra BMW combination.
- 1:07:35And he's put these exhaust pipes on it that go straight up like a cartoon
- 1:07:40and they are at least 20 feet tall.
- 1:07:42The car doesn't Sound any different?
- 1:07:44It just sounds like a Supra, but I'm also asking myself, how
- 1:07:47the hell does he support these?
- 1:07:48How does it not break the exhaust?
- 1:07:50How are they braced?
- 1:07:51And to your point, Tanya, how does he clear the traffic light
- 1:07:54where that bends at coming out from underneath the car?
- 1:07:57Such a stress point just from that weight going up.
- 1:08:00If one thing was going straight up at 90 degrees, but that's at
- 1:08:03an angle, so you have that stress point right there at that bend.
- 1:08:06whatever degrees it may be, then the pressure underneath, you
- 1:08:10know, your point that's farther up underneath the car is getting pushed.
- 1:08:13And it's constantly under load.
- 1:08:15It's constantly, yeah, you know, bouncing because every little imperfection
- 1:08:19in the road, it's just swinging.
- 1:08:20There's no brace
- 1:08:21going between it.
- 1:08:22So they're independent of each other.
- 1:08:25This is so stupid.
- 1:08:26It's almost like that, you know, inflatable dude.
- 1:08:28Yes.
- 1:08:29Yes, the burning man.
- 1:08:30Yeah, the person driving behind them, man.
- 1:08:33They're brave because that thing falls down.
- 1:08:35That's going to do some damage to somebody's home.
- 1:08:37I was just about to say that.
- 1:08:39What are those movies?
- 1:08:40Final Destination.
- 1:08:41Yeah.
- 1:08:42I mean, it's going to be like that.
- 1:08:43That thing's going to come through the windshield like a bazooka.
- 1:08:45That
- 1:08:46shit's hot.
- 1:08:47Well, all that pipe, all that money, it's better stainless
- 1:08:51steel than the Cybertruck.
- 1:08:52But the point is, it doesn't sound any different.
- 1:08:55So it sort of proves the point that as ridiculous as those, let's call them
- 1:08:59stacks are, because that's sort of what he's trying to do, like a tractor
- 1:09:02trailer, except three times taller.
- 1:09:04It makes no difference in the sound of the car.
- 1:09:06I mean, you would have been better off doing a side exit cutoff,
- 1:09:09like they do in the race cars.
- 1:09:11If you want it to sound different.
- 1:09:12You know he's gotten pulled over a bunch of times.
- 1:09:14He has to.
- 1:09:15You know, there's people getting pulled over for the weirdest stuff,
- 1:09:18and this guy's out on the road?
- 1:09:19Must be in Florida.
- 1:09:21There's no way that's, like, legal.
- 1:09:23Yeah, it can't be.
- 1:09:25There's just no way.
- 1:09:26It's just not safe.
- 1:09:27But yeah, it looks like it's Florida.
- 1:09:28This next one.
- 1:09:29We have normally reserved four lowered expectations.
- 1:09:33I have given Tanya and Brad a homework assignment month after month, but I
- 1:09:37figured, William, since you're here from the exotic car marketplace as
- 1:09:40our resident Ferrari expert, I'm bumping this to rich people fangs.
- 1:09:44I'm going to ask Tanya one last time.
- 1:09:47Did you watch the Ferrari movie?
- 1:09:49Yes, I did because I said I would last time.
- 1:09:52All right!
- 1:09:53What is this movie about?
- 1:09:55And who is it about exactly?
- 1:09:57Obviously, it's called Ferrari.
- 1:10:00It's about him.
- 1:10:01But see, that's the thing.
- 1:10:02I didn't know what it was actually about because it could be about so many
- 1:10:05different things going into it, right?
- 1:10:07As the movie progressed, okay, are we going down this avenue?
- 1:10:12Well, we're not.
- 1:10:13So we're going to go down this avenue.
- 1:10:15We're really not.
- 1:10:16And then you get towards the end and it's like, We're going down this avenue.
- 1:10:23Is that what this, the whole thing has
- 1:10:25been about?
- 1:10:26So you understand my point now when I say who is this movie about?
- 1:10:30And I'm being cryptic because I don't know if you want to give spoilers.
- 1:10:33That's up to you guys.
- 1:10:34I'm sure it was either you watch it now or, I mean, I've
- 1:10:37watched it six times already.
- 1:10:38Immediately you realize, okay, this is not like some sort of documentary
- 1:10:42of biography of his life, right?
- 1:10:44Because you enter it, he's already of a certain age.
- 1:10:47The company already exists.
- 1:10:48It's not about him and where he grew up from and how it even came to be Ferrari,
- 1:10:54that's not what the movie is about.
- 1:10:55I thought maybe it was.
- 1:10:56For a while I thought it was the equivalent of Ford vs.
- 1:10:59Ferrari.
- 1:11:00Ferrari vs.
- 1:11:01Maserati.
- 1:11:02Right.
- 1:11:02Yeah.
- 1:11:03I was like, okay, so there's gonna be some like, sort of unknown battle between
- 1:11:08the early days of Maserati and Ferrari.
- 1:11:10Okay, this could be interesting.
- 1:11:11And then it really wasn't.
- 1:11:13And then, you know, you're wondering, well, we've already into the man's life.
- 1:11:16Is it about his wife?
- 1:11:19Exactly.
- 1:11:20And his illegitimate child and all this stuff.
- 1:11:23No, it really wasn't.
- 1:11:24And then it's like, okay, we're going racing.
- 1:11:27Cool.
- 1:11:27It's like, okay, well, we know the outcome of what happens.
- 1:11:31Yeah, the 57 millimeter.
- 1:11:32Yeah.
- 1:11:32Yeah.
- 1:11:33With the tone of the movie up to that point, it was very shocking.
- 1:11:37And then I read a little bit afterward and it intentionally made the scene
- 1:11:41of the crash that basically ended that race ever happening again.
- 1:11:45That's a hardcore, even for the CGI doing that, man, that was brutal.
- 1:11:49I mean, I read that they tried to make it pretty much like this is basically
- 1:11:53what would have happened like they tried to be like realistic with it and it's
- 1:11:56just like the tone of the movie then it was like whoa we just went there
- 1:12:00and it's like the carnage and the chaos and it was just like that is emotional.
- 1:12:05Well Michael Mann actually had met when he went to the site whatever
- 1:12:09there was actually an old guy now but he was one of the kids.
- 1:12:14Per se that were sitting at the table and went out.
- 1:12:16Yeah,
- 1:12:16it was actually there and he got that viewpoint from someone that was there.
- 1:12:22Right.
- 1:12:22If it was the aftermath or he was standing close to everybody, he really
- 1:12:26wanted to make a statement with that scene and it leaves an impression on you.
- 1:12:29That's like a holy, oh, Jesus Christ.
- 1:12:31It definitely did.
- 1:12:32And it's interesting kind of reading more on the history of that accident.
- 1:12:36It was like the people that were like super up close on the road actually fared
- 1:12:40better, even survived than some of the people that were a little bit further
- 1:12:43away from the road, apparently, which is just like, it's all just mind blowing.
- 1:12:47Uh, maybe it's similar to the wreck at Le Mans where the
- 1:12:50guy went into the stands too.
- 1:12:51Right.
- 1:12:52I mean, he obliterated even dozens more people.
- 1:12:54I think that that accident, not to make it any less tragic than it was.
- 1:12:59So that happened.
- 1:12:59And then.
- 1:13:00And you're like, okay, how deep are we going to get into the
- 1:13:03litigation and all that stuff?
- 1:13:04Because basically it was like, they're blaming Ferrari.
- 1:13:07And I don't know, they, they went through it really fast.
- 1:13:09They were exonerated basically that it wasn't defect of the car
- 1:13:12or their negligence of sending the car out with improper tires
- 1:13:16and this, that, and the other.
- 1:13:18They, you know, they went back and the safety people that did
- 1:13:21the investigation and all that.
- 1:13:23had gone back and concluded that it was the reflector basically in the road
- 1:13:27that punctured the tire and sent the Ferrari catapulting through the air
- 1:13:30and ricocheting off poles and stuff.
- 1:13:32So I don't know what the movie was about in the end because
- 1:13:35there were just so many things.
- 1:13:36Didn't you say that?
- 1:13:37There were so many things going on and it's not that
- 1:13:39it was super even disjointed.
- 1:13:42I don't want to say it.
- 1:13:43load.
- 1:13:43I mean, I guess it did.
- 1:13:44It, it had a weird string that it followed and it wasn't what I was expecting.
- 1:13:48I didn't necessarily go in with an expectation either.
- 1:13:51So I wasn't left super disappointed.
- 1:13:53I wasn't like, this is the best movie ever.
- 1:13:59Like, I mean, in terms of like seeing a movie, like the
- 1:14:01Ford versus Ferrari, right?
- 1:14:02Like that was just.
- 1:14:03I don't know, that was very different versus this.
- 1:14:06I did, I guess, maybe have an expectation that maybe it was going
- 1:14:09to be kind of on a level like that.
- 1:14:10Like you were going to get that history, that story, how he rose
- 1:14:14to the success and all that.
- 1:14:16And it wasn't necessarily.
- 1:14:17It
- 1:14:17was very dark.
- 1:14:18Maybe that movie's still out there to come.
- 1:14:20And oddly enough, it's based on the book that's on William's shelf.
- 1:14:23And it's behind me on my shelf.
- 1:14:25If you're watching the video version of this, Brock Yates Enzo biography,
- 1:14:29which is a tome if there ever was one.
- 1:14:32It is a big book.
- 1:14:33There's a ton of content out there to make a very compelling and captivating
- 1:14:37movie, but it wasn't a bad movie.
- 1:14:40I mean, I don't, I don't know what to think about it.
- 1:14:43Gotta go into it.
- 1:14:44I'll say a disclaimer, but like when I watched it the first time, that's one
- 1:14:47thing I went and saw it for the first showing that day when they had it out.
- 1:14:51But kind of putting out to say, look, people got to remember,
- 1:14:53this is not a documentary.
- 1:14:55Right, exactly.
- 1:14:56That's the thing.
- 1:14:56You know, it's just a movie.
- 1:14:57It's entertainment.
- 1:14:58You know, there's a lot of things that aren't lining up time for a line.
- 1:15:03Right.
- 1:15:03Look, this is just for entertainment.
- 1:15:05Don't take it so serious.
- 1:15:06But so many people, Oh my God, it was over on his desk.
- 1:15:08Like that's not what it was for.
- 1:15:09No.
- 1:15:10And then watching it's like, but if he had like another 45 minutes or an
- 1:15:13hour length wise, it was in there.
- 1:15:15He might've been like.
- 1:15:16We're going to complete some of the things and kind of run it off.
- 1:15:20It'd be interesting to see if he comes out at some point in
- 1:15:23time with the director's cut.
- 1:15:25You know, they filmed a lot of the stuff.
- 1:15:27Well,
- 1:15:27as long as that doesn't end up like the Justice League director's cut,
- 1:15:31which is a completely different movie.
- 1:15:33I was like, what is this?
- 1:15:34Yeah.
- 1:15:35I will say that it was neat seeing how they blended some of
- 1:15:39the old footage in with the new, like they did that pretty well.
- 1:15:43They clearly brought out some real cars or at least some replicas in certain scenes.
- 1:15:48The sounds were pretty nice.
- 1:15:50I mean, if you're a psychopathic, narcissistic, Machiavellian sadist.
- 1:15:54Exactly.
- 1:15:55They did have a couple of real ones, but the majority of them were all
- 1:15:58replicas that were made by, uh, I'm trying to remember the place, but
- 1:16:01they did a phenomenal job with those.
- 1:16:03Put them together because obviously those vehicles today from then,
- 1:16:07especially the winning car worth so many millions of dollars.
- 1:16:10Yeah, of course.
- 1:16:11I felt like there were a few scenes where like, okay, we pulled them out.
- 1:16:13Probably there.
- 1:16:14They might be the real ones.
- 1:16:16And then of course the theme where it's like, but Maserati and stuff
- 1:16:18is like careening down the field.
- 1:16:20I'm like, yeah, that's not a real one.
- 1:16:23It's an Ultima.
- 1:16:23Yeah, so watch it and you see that they actually use some actual footage.
- 1:16:27I thought that was really cool.
- 1:16:28Gave me that feel for it.
- 1:16:29Because you got some of these other ones where it's all CGI,
- 1:16:32they make shit up or whatever.
- 1:16:33Like in Ford versus Ferrari, you know, they're out to whatever track,
- 1:16:36they're going, you know, 30 miles an hour, but then they speed it.
- 1:16:38That kind of shit is like, no, they use actual footage.
- 1:16:40Which I thought was really good and as we know is Michael Mann's a director So it
- 1:16:45doesn't hold a candle to let's say ford versus ferrari or rush and some
- 1:16:50of the other films that have come out It's in a different league than let's
- 1:16:53say lemans some of the classics it does Step above films like the Ferruccio
- 1:16:57Lamborghini movie that came out.
- 1:16:59That was terrible.
- 1:17:02So
- 1:17:02there's some garbage out there for sure.
- 1:17:03So it's at the top end of the middle, if we look at it that way.
- 1:17:07But I also want to bring up, Brad said he did watch it.
- 1:17:11So by proxy, I just want to say that, you know, he said he got emotional
- 1:17:14watching the film and I'm allowed to make fun of him because he's not here.
- 1:17:17And I don't think he got emotional over the Deportago wreck.
- 1:17:20I think he got emotional over seeing Patrick Dempsey
- 1:17:23as an old man In this film.
- 1:17:27Now I was, I was going to bring that up.
- 1:17:29Not the emotional thing.
- 1:17:30I think it was the car crash based on the timestamp, but the Dempsey thing,
- 1:17:36I didn't realize he was in the movie.
- 1:17:38And then you don't see him to like a good, I feel like 45 minutes in and they're
- 1:17:42like at the dinner table or something.
- 1:17:44You're like, wait a second.
- 1:17:45Cause he didn't say anything.
- 1:17:46He was just sitting at the table.
- 1:17:47I think he said like one word and he's got like white, white, white hair.
- 1:17:50And I was like, is that Patrick Dempsey?
- 1:17:52And I'm like, you're only, and then I'm like.
- 1:17:55And I had to look it up and I was like, it is Patrick Dempsey.
- 1:17:57And then you don't see him again for like another 30 minutes.
- 1:18:00I think you're only in this movie because you probably got to drive like one of
- 1:18:04the real Ferraris for like five seconds.
- 1:18:07Or he owns one of them.
- 1:18:08You never know.
- 1:18:09I
- 1:18:09don't know.
- 1:18:10It's interesting.
- 1:18:11If you look up who they used as a lot of the drivers and stuff like
- 1:18:14that, that they snagged to do it.
- 1:18:15There's some really interesting people that they utilize to drive the cars.
- 1:18:19Former formula one guys, like all sorts of stuff.
- 1:18:22But overall, I think.
- 1:18:23If you put that all together, that's what brings it to the top of the middle, right?
- 1:18:26The bottom of those upper echelon films like Rush and the other ones we mentioned.
- 1:18:30I think if you want more in depth, if you want to learn more, and
- 1:18:33Tanya, I don't know if you've already listened to the two part episode that
- 1:18:36William, Professor Summers and I did together about the history of the
- 1:18:39Mila Mila, but we do cover the crash.
- 1:18:42We do cover 57, the turning point, what happened to the Mila Mila after that.
- 1:18:46So it is all based on true events and true stories, but There's a lot more to all of
- 1:18:50those characters at the table to include the character that Dempsey is portraying.
- 1:18:55And so it's like, when you really dive into the history, especially
- 1:18:5854 to 57, it is action packed.
- 1:19:01The cars are amazing.
- 1:19:02Ferrari really is starting to come into his own.
- 1:19:05And to your point, that's what's missing from the film.
- 1:19:07But that would be an eight hour documentary at that point.
- 1:19:09Hell, it was a three hour podcast split in two pieces.
- 1:19:12Yeah.
- 1:19:13Yeah, it was a two hour movie and we didn't even scratch the surface.
- 1:19:16So it's all good stuff.
- 1:19:17I'm glad you finally watched it.
- 1:19:18And I'm glad you now understand what I've been asking every month.
- 1:19:22What is this movie about?
- 1:19:23Who is this movie about?
- 1:19:25So now you get it.
- 1:19:25Now you understand.
- 1:19:26And William, we're going to dive in more into the Ferrari
- 1:19:29movie later this year too.
- 1:19:31Cause John wants to revisit that and compare it to all the research
- 1:19:34we did about the Mille Miglia.
- 1:19:35So that's going to be interesting as well.
- 1:19:36That's going to be good.
- 1:19:37But it'll be fun sitting there listening to John talk.
- 1:19:41We kid because we care, and he's not here, so we can poke fun.
- 1:19:45We love you, John.
- 1:19:46We love you, baby.
- 1:19:47Well, with that, it's time we go down south and talk about alligators and beer.
- 1:20:07Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding.
- 1:20:09Where in the world are we this time?
- 1:20:11Well, we're going to start in the mid Atlantic.
- 1:20:13Oh, that's close to home.
- 1:20:15We're gonna pull our Tesla thread.
- 1:20:16Oh
- 1:20:17no!
- 1:20:17So apparently, Delaware, New Jersey area, it's all confusing.
- 1:20:21Let's
- 1:20:21call it Wilmington.
- 1:20:22Sure.
- 1:20:23Somebody stole a Cybertruck.
- 1:20:26That was their first mistake.
- 1:20:28It ensued high speed chase.
- 1:20:30Well, not a high speed chase.
- 1:20:31A police chase.
- 1:20:32There was no high speed here.
- 1:20:33And I thought it funny reading through because I'm like, where is this gonna end?
- 1:20:37Because he took it out on a dirt road.
- 1:20:38I was like, I mean, arguably mistake number one was stealing the Cybertruck,
- 1:20:42depending how you look at that.
- 1:20:43But mistake number two, definitely like you took it on, on an unpaved road.
- 1:20:49But it didn't get stuck as I assumed it probably was going to do.
- 1:20:53How many body panels fell
- 1:20:54off?
- 1:20:54Well, we'll get there.
- 1:20:55No, just kidding.
- 1:20:56But I like the way the person wrote this and I will just read from their article.
- 1:21:00And so a chase ensued.
- 1:21:01The police said the driver ignored all signals to pull over.
- 1:21:04One imagines the otherworldly looking stainless steel coffin, which weighs
- 1:21:08close to 7, 000 pounds, piggishly bumbling its way across unpaid roads with
- 1:21:14powerful jerks of acceleration, gracing those backwoods like a meandering UFO.
- 1:21:19AI written all over it.
- 1:21:21The imagery here, the imagery.
- 1:21:23Chat GPT.
- 1:21:24Yeah, I was
- 1:21:25wondering, did chat GPT, you know?
- 1:21:27But needless to say, the hot pursuit ended.
- 1:21:30The guy ended up just pulling over and they arrested him.
- 1:21:33Blah, blah, blah.
- 1:21:34But, wow, our first Tesla Cybertruck robbery.
- 1:21:38Which went to 4, 002 bond.
- 1:21:41That's it?
- 1:21:434, 002.
- 1:21:45What's with the 2?
- 1:21:47That's the processing fee.
- 1:21:49Yeah, but he uses debit card.
- 1:21:54It's been a minute since we've had actual Florida man stories.
- 1:21:58So we have a
- 1:21:59legit Florida man one here.
- 1:22:01Are
- 1:22:02you sure?
- 1:22:02Well, he's a Florida person.
- 1:22:04So, it's not correlated, it's adjacent.
- 1:22:08Because he stole a boat.
- 1:22:09And a UTV?
- 1:22:10Whatever.
- 1:22:11Anyway, some sort of.
- 1:22:12How do you
- 1:22:12steal a boat and a UTV?
- 1:22:14I don't know, but he did, or he tried to.
- 1:22:16And then he dressed as a woman.
- 1:22:21Rather unconvincing one.
- 1:22:23Yeah.
- 1:22:24I mean, the picture's pretty good.
- 1:22:26That's unfortunate.
- 1:22:27I mean.
- 1:22:28Like that wig it's like a broom mop on his head and then the five o'clock
- 1:22:35shadow it's quite evident Wow, I mean lovely dress I like the pairing with the
- 1:22:43little white sweater, you know, it's a
- 1:22:45very unfortunate
- 1:22:49Ensemble there my friend Points for your ensemble, but, uh, let's
- 1:22:54give it to the Okachico Bee County police that they spotted him.
- 1:22:59They did not get the wool pulled over their eyes on this one.
- 1:23:01I
- 1:23:01think he could have used a better pair of sunglasses to really sell it.
- 1:23:04Those macho man, Randy Savage things are in style again.
- 1:23:08The vipers, they call them, right?
- 1:23:09I don't get
- 1:23:10it.
- 1:23:11Oh my God.
- 1:23:12I've been staring at them going, what are those from?
- 1:23:15Absolutely.
- 1:23:16Yes.
- 1:23:16Florida never disappoints.
- 1:23:19You know, it's been a minute.
- 1:23:20Like I said, it's summertime.
- 1:23:22The eggs are hatching.
- 1:23:23The crazy is coming out.
- 1:23:25There's going to be more Florida mad stories for sure.
- 1:23:28So now it's time we go behind the pit wall and talk about motor sports news.
- 1:23:32So Tanya and William, you guys are big fans of open wheel racing.
- 1:23:35What's going on in the world of.
- 1:23:37There's been a colleague making that statement that powers me for 2030.
- 1:23:40Next set of new regs would come out.
- 1:23:42Oh my
- 1:23:42god.
- 1:23:43You bring back the noise and I guess really make a big change.
- 1:23:46Honestly, that's ways away, but that would be a dream.
- 1:23:49Plus you have to watch it in Seb and listen to Seb drive Senna's
- 1:23:52McLaren MP4 or whatever that was.
- 1:23:55God, that thing sounded just so glorious.
- 1:23:57Oh, that thing was beautiful.
- 1:23:58We've seen some mix up, which is great.
- 1:24:00Lando comes out of Miami and wins, which was awesome to see.
- 1:24:04Wait, wait,
- 1:24:04wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 1:24:06Verstappen, the king of being 50 seconds ahead of everybody, didn't win a race.
- 1:24:10What happened?
- 1:24:10Did he catch on fire again?
- 1:24:11What was the argument everyone's trying to say, which was, well, you know, with the
- 1:24:15safety car timing wise, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:24:17But in simulation and whatnot, they basically put out that Lando probably
- 1:24:21wouldn't have caught him and passed him.
- 1:24:23Ooh.
- 1:24:24Wasn't it also like he hit that bollard and then it was like,
- 1:24:27yeah,
- 1:24:28attraction.
- 1:24:29I meant car,
- 1:24:31all this nonsense.
- 1:24:32So excuses, of course.
- 1:24:34Yeah.
- 1:24:34Cause then he went to the next race and Imola and Lando, what was it?
- 1:24:380.
- 1:24:397 seconds at the finish line.
- 1:24:40You know, he was catching them one more lap.
- 1:24:42He would have had them, you know, and when it had two in a row, now we know
- 1:24:45we got Monaco coming up and that's just a procession going on the track.
- 1:24:48Unless someone stuffs in a wall.
- 1:24:50You always pray for rain at that race because that's the one you're gonna
- 1:24:52watch start to finish, but when it's that you watch the start you peek in
- 1:24:56about an hour in and then you come at the end and watch the finish because it's
- 1:25:00just it's a procession going through.
- 1:25:02And Tony maybe you agree is the big news is Mr.
- 1:25:04Adrian Newey gathering on off into the sunset.
- 1:25:08And maybe that's why the Red Bull's not doing so well.
- 1:25:10He took the magic with him.
- 1:25:12Him taking his gardening leave, but the power he had, if he wanted
- 1:25:16to go somewhere ASAP, he could, but He's going to go to Haas.
- 1:25:19Well, that whole story is unclear because he's still technically with
- 1:25:23Red Bull because he's developing like their LMP car or whatever,
- 1:25:26their prototype or whatever it is.
- 1:25:28So he's still working on that project.
- 1:25:30So he's technically not going to another F1 team.
- 1:25:33Guess he's going to WEC instead.
- 1:25:35His big thing, he really stayed in F1 is when these direct, you know, ground
- 1:25:39effects and everything like that.
- 1:25:40It was such a big change.
- 1:25:42Intrigued him, you know, got his juices flowing like that.
- 1:25:45Cause it wasn't just the same OBS coming through and designing it.
- 1:25:47Now it's just the engine change here coming in 2026.
- 1:25:51You know, everyone's saying he's going to come back with somebody.
- 1:25:53He's only, what, 65?
- 1:25:55He's as old as Alonzo.
- 1:25:57Yeah, okay.
- 1:25:57Yeah, exactly.
- 1:26:00If we were back when there was no budget caps or nothing, I would
- 1:26:03say that this one had a really big effect for the rest of the season.
- 1:26:07Obviously, because you got So many races.
- 1:26:09So a lot of people could catch up and start throwing money.
- 1:26:11But now with the budget cap, it's not like people are just going, Oh, he's gone.
- 1:26:15We got it.
- 1:26:16A lot of stuff's already set in place.
- 1:26:17You know, they have the program set where, okay, we had upgrades coming for
- 1:26:21this and at this point, and that's it.
- 1:26:23You know, you can't fill stuff in.
- 1:26:25So it'll be interesting how the rest of the season plays out.
- 1:26:27You know, McClaren's made their strides.
- 1:26:29Aston Martin came out with a couple and it didn't do squat.
- 1:26:32It's getting interesting.
- 1:26:33It's not the same old BS.
- 1:26:35Honestly, I didn't renew my subscription.
- 1:26:37So I've been only going back and watching highlights because.
- 1:26:41Honestly, I was waiting to see because it was like another
- 1:26:43season of, Oh, Verstappen's 50 seconds ahead of the next guy.
- 1:26:46It's like a snoozefest!
- 1:26:48Because like every race was a train race and it was like two minutes of action.
- 1:26:53However, maybe season's actually turning a corner and there's a
- 1:26:57little bit more competition going on.
- 1:26:59And as was just said, it's like McLaren's.
- 1:27:01door.
- 1:27:03He's not 50 seconds ahead.
- 1:27:05He's ending only at less than a second ahead.
- 1:27:07Wow.
- 1:27:08Maybe there's some interesting fights that can happen now.
- 1:27:10He's no longer hot lapping by himself under zero pressure.
- 1:27:13Let's see how you do when you're no longer out there by yourself and you've
- 1:27:17got someone breathing down your neck.
- 1:27:18And he's being the, they call him a war bot, whatever, because this past
- 1:27:21weekend, you know, he was racing in a virtual Nürburgring 24 hour race.
- 1:27:26They won it too.
- 1:27:29He actually did six hours in the seat for that thing.
- 1:27:33Wow.
- 1:27:34The guy's that's the excuse.
- 1:27:36He was tired.
- 1:27:37Yeah.
- 1:27:39He didn't pull ahead.
- 1:27:40He's not far ahead points wise.
- 1:27:42What?
- 1:27:42That's what I said.
- 1:27:42So it could get really interesting in the next six, seven races.
- 1:27:46I think that will dictate in regards to how things play out.
- 1:27:49If people have caught up.
- 1:27:51But why not?
- 1:27:51Because obviously Red Bull's going to come out with some upgrades too.
- 1:27:54It remains to be seen what happens now that the big brain's gone.
- 1:27:58Well, you mentioned Seb driving Senna's McLaren at Imola, which is another
- 1:28:03great tribute to probably one of the greatest F1 drivers of all time.
- 1:28:07We can argue about that till the cows come home.
- 1:28:09And we did on a special tribute episode of our own with Professor Summers.
- 1:28:13And we went back and looked at the life of Senna and then the 30 years since
- 1:28:17his passing, because Senna would have been in his sixties this year, kind
- 1:28:20of like Alonzo, but all jokes aside.
- 1:28:24It was really funny because guest of the show, friend of the show,
- 1:28:27Elizabeth Blackstock, got on the opposite end of this discussion.
- 1:28:30She's got a new show that's come out as well, since she's sort of
- 1:28:33separated from Donut and everything.
- 1:28:35Deadly Passions and Terrible Joys.
- 1:28:37And on there, she's like, I'm so tired of hearing about Senna and Senna
- 1:28:40tributes and all this kind of thing.
- 1:28:41And I'm like, That is an interesting dynamic.
- 1:28:43It is very polarizing compared to everybody else paying homage
- 1:28:47and reverence to Senna and his life and things like that.
- 1:28:49And I think we kind of took a middle of the road approach to that, right, William?
- 1:28:53Where we sort of looked at it and said, Is he still as good as?
- 1:28:56Does he still qualify?
- 1:28:57If we put him in today's lens, or if we go backwards in time.
- 1:29:00And John was very good about Framing that whole conversation.
- 1:29:04And where did we end up with all that?
- 1:29:06Let's see the go.
- 1:29:07You can't make that argument because of just difference
- 1:29:10in regards to the machinery.
- 1:29:12Do you do an actual breakdown?
- 1:29:13I, someone did an awesome graphic.
- 1:29:15They did it from the start of F1 back, you know, in the fifties and
- 1:29:19they started from the first race all the way and they had it going as
- 1:29:22the points and everything like that.
- 1:29:24Shit.
- 1:29:24When they first started, they only had six races in a year, you know?
- 1:29:27So you start looking at the wind ratios and everything like that.
- 1:29:30Neil Fongio's record.
- 1:29:31I don't think you can make that argument.
- 1:29:33Was he the hell of a driver?
- 1:29:34Yeah.
- 1:29:34Could he drive the ass off a cart?
- 1:29:36Yeah.
- 1:29:36I mean, there's no doubt about that.
- 1:29:38You're just talking difference machinery, everything like that.
- 1:29:41And it's just hard to say.
- 1:29:42I personally look at, if I had Joe in my mind is, you know, he's up there,
- 1:29:46but it's either Jim Clark or Andretti because of their ability to drive.
- 1:29:52And win in any.
- 1:29:53Yeah, they're all arounders.
- 1:29:55Yes.
- 1:29:55I mean, you're not talking just Oakville.
- 1:29:57I mean, racing in, you know, Le Mans.
- 1:29:59Winning at Indy, I mean, that's the Oakville, but
- 1:30:00totally different discipline.
- 1:30:02The ability to get into a tintop, get into a single seater,
- 1:30:06unbelievable talent there.
- 1:30:07In my mind, I think that makes you more of an all arounder.
- 1:30:10Well,
- 1:30:12I'm glad you brought up Indy because, you know, there are different
- 1:30:15disciplines of open wheel racing out there and America won't be outdone.
- 1:30:19We don't have the same problems that they have overseas, you know, some Dutch
- 1:30:22guy running away 50 seconds ahead of everybody doing a time trial by himself.
- 1:30:26No, we have items like a mannequin falling from the track and landing near the track
- 1:30:32and drivers are freaking out, you know, because We have to adorn our racetracks
- 1:30:36with all sorts of paraphernalia.
- 1:30:37But if you've ever been to Barber Motorsports Park, it's
- 1:30:40really par for the course.
- 1:30:41It's probably one of the most manicured and most accessoried
- 1:30:46tracks in the United States.
- 1:30:47It's gorgeous.
- 1:30:48But when I read about this mannequin basically falling on the track,
- 1:30:51I was like, well, there we go.
- 1:30:54And we wonder why people laugh at us.
- 1:30:55Yeah, that was funny.
- 1:30:57That was hilarious.
- 1:30:58Well, switching gears a little bit to WRCI promised I wasn't gonna
- 1:31:01talk about WRC News, but since we're heading into the summer, I
- 1:31:04have been getting caught up in WRC.
- 1:31:06Obviously, their events are much more spaced out.
- 1:31:08They happen basically once a month, starting in January or
- 1:31:11thereabout, sometimes twice a month.
- 1:31:12Portugal happened this month, which has some of the biggest.
- 1:31:16Air of any event on the WRC schedule.
- 1:31:18So if you want to see cars flying, Portugal is the one to tune into the
- 1:31:22Italian rally comes up later in June.
- 1:31:25But if anybody was curious from our discussions last year, TK also known
- 1:31:28as Takamoto Katsuda is still crashing.
- 1:31:31He's crashing less than last season, but I still watch every stage saying to myself,
- 1:31:36it's really not if it's when TK crashes.
- 1:31:40So more to come on the WRC scene when we get together with John Summers,
- 1:31:44the motoring historian, who is also a avid rally fan, along with some.
- 1:31:48Other guests, you might recall from break fix that you don't know our rally fan.
- 1:31:54So we'll be coming to the table to do a special WRC episode, not only
- 1:31:57talking about the new stuff, but looking back into the past all the
- 1:32:01way back into group B and beyond.
- 1:32:02So look forward to that later in the season.
- 1:32:04It's going to be a lot of fun.
- 1:32:05And in the WEC camp, we are only weeks away folks from not only father's day.
- 1:32:12But the Super Bowl of Super Bowls, the world championship
- 1:32:15of racing the Le Mans 24 hours.
- 1:32:17So this will be the 101st anniversary of Le Mans, the 92nd running of
- 1:32:22the event on June 15th and 16th.
- 1:32:25But for some of us, we're not going to be going to France.
- 1:32:28We got other things planned.
- 1:32:29And we're going to be headed to Detroit for a special ACO USA viewing
- 1:32:34party, which is also going to have an exclusive activation where we're
- 1:32:38going to be unveiling Le Mans Ultimate.
- 1:32:40They're at M1 concourse in Detroit, one of the newest racetracks.
- 1:32:44So it's going to be a lot of fun.
- 1:32:44It's going to be a weekend full of Le Mans and racing and petrol heads.
- 1:32:48Hoping William's going to be there, but also we were very fortunate
- 1:32:52to be able to put together another evening with a legend.
- 1:32:56So you can go back and catch that on our Patreon right now.
- 1:32:59We had one of the most famous ladies in racing, Lynn St.
- 1:33:02James.
- 1:33:03She's still with us.
- 1:33:03Stop by and got behind the microphone to talk about in more detail than
- 1:33:07in break, fix episode number one, 42, her two attempts at Lamont's.
- 1:33:11A lot of people don't know that she ran at Lamont's once in 1989.
- 1:33:15And the other one that she quote, doesn't like to talk about in 1991.
- 1:33:19So you get the uncut behind the scenes access to that on our Patrion right now,
- 1:33:24you can see all the bloopers, all the comments, Lynn telling her story, getting
- 1:33:27an emotional about things and whatnot.
- 1:33:29That's at patrion.
- 1:33:30com forward slash GT motor sports.
- 1:33:32Look for that episode to be digitally remastered later in the season
- 1:33:35for the general public to consume.
- 1:33:37But if you want to become a member of the ACO and get exclusive access
- 1:33:41to the WEC feed of the 24 hours of Le Mans straight from France, if you want
- 1:33:45to be part of upcoming events like the M1 concourse event in Detroit and
- 1:33:48others, we have links to how you can become an ACO member In our show notes,
- 1:33:52it's actually a really, really cheap.
- 1:33:54You get a lot of benefits, discounts at the store, Lamont swag, all sorts of
- 1:33:58really cool stuff, and if you're planning ahead, maybe a little road trip all the
- 1:34:02way to San Diego, the ACO is going to be holding an event called blown away to.
- 1:34:07It's the last event that they're going to be holding on the America's cup yacht
- 1:34:11before it set sail around the world.
- 1:34:13Again, it's an evening with legends live in person.
- 1:34:17It's a cruise out of the San Diego Marina, and you'll be able to sit down and talk
- 1:34:21with legends of Lamont's in person, great meal, great atmosphere, music.
- 1:34:25I'll be there because I'm the host of evening with a legend.
- 1:34:27And what's an evening with a legend event without its host.
- 1:34:30So I'm looking forward to seeing other fans of WEC hours and lawns
- 1:34:34out there at blown away to in August.
- 1:34:37And I mentioned Le Mans Ultimate, the newest sim racing game to hit the streets.
- 1:34:43It's available now on Steam.
- 1:34:44It's no longer a prototype, generally available to everybody
- 1:34:47that has access to a PC.
- 1:34:49We put together in conjunction with MIE Racing, a time trials in preparation
- 1:34:55for this upcoming activation to figure out which is the fastest LMP1 hybrid,
- 1:35:01GTP, whatever class you want to use.
- 1:35:04And so we broke it down by the car, all the hot laps, all the data.
- 1:35:08It's all there for you.
- 1:35:08It's available in our show notes, but also on our YouTube page.
- 1:35:11So check that out.
- 1:35:12Some really interesting results.
- 1:35:13And there's an article that goes along with that on MIE racing, giving you
- 1:35:17pointers and some suggestions about which car you should think about choosing.
- 1:35:21If you want to attempt the four.
- 1:35:22Full 24 hours, which you can do in Lamont's ultimate.
- 1:35:26It's the only game since a game called total immersion racing, where
- 1:35:29you can run the 24 hours of Lamont.
- 1:35:31So it's pretty cool.
- 1:35:32And with that, our motor sports news is brought to us in
- 1:35:35partnership by the international motor racing research center.
- 1:35:38Just want to point out.
- 1:35:39We mentioned last month.
- 1:35:39month, May 11th was the first center conversation for the season.
- 1:35:43It featured the Purdy Deuce and other super modifieds and personalities
- 1:35:47from circle track and sprint car racing, along with a conversation
- 1:35:50around the history of Oswego Speedway.
- 1:35:53It was the highest attended center conversation to date for the IMRC
- 1:35:57with over 200 people in attendance.
- 1:35:59So we're going to be hosting and remastering that footage
- 1:36:02as soon as we get it.
- 1:36:03And we'll bring that to you as part of the motoring podcast network.
- 1:36:06They also have another center conversation coming up called the
- 1:36:09greatest Corvette story ever told.
- 1:36:11It's about the Camaradi Corvette, which participated at Le Mans back
- 1:36:15in the sixties and it will be on display at the IMRRC to see in June.
- 1:36:20And then in September.
- 1:36:21There's the Cameron R.
- 1:36:22Argettsinger award for outstanding contributions to motor sports.
- 1:36:25And guess what?
- 1:36:26They revealed the honoree this year and that's Zach Brown.
- 1:36:30Yes, Zach Brown, CEO of McLaren formula one.
- 1:36:34You can still buy tickets to attend the event.
- 1:36:37So hop over to racingarchives.
- 1:36:39org and click on store to purchase your seat at the table
- 1:36:42and see Zach Brown in person.
- 1:36:44And don't forget November 1st through the 2nd at Watkins Glen
- 1:36:47International is the Michael R.
- 1:36:49Argettsinger Symposium on Motorsports History, which will be live streaming for
- 1:36:53folks that can't make it out to the Glen.
- 1:36:55But if you're in the area, take a road trip.
- 1:36:57If you've never been to the Glen, one of the prettiest places in New England and
- 1:37:00one of the best racetracks in my opinion.
- 1:37:02So come on down to the Glen and check out the symposium while you're there.
- 1:37:06So William, we got to take it home.
- 1:37:07It's time to wrap it up and talk about different events and
- 1:37:10special things that are going on.
- 1:37:11So you've got something in the works for this summer.
- 1:37:13People should be making a road trip to where?
- 1:37:15West side of Cleveland.
- 1:37:16Just, you'll get here July 28th.
- 1:37:18We have our inaugural rock and revs event.
- 1:37:21To support our charities, we're working with aluminum cans for burned children.
- 1:37:25We work with all the local fire departments, collecting aluminum cans,
- 1:37:29drop off bins at every fire station in the area, fundraising events and donations.
- 1:37:33Children that have been injured in fires, we send to a summer and winter camp.
- 1:37:36Then whatever else we could help them out with in their home for mobility,
- 1:37:39what have you, but then also with Island Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary.
- 1:37:43They are located up in Marblehead.
- 1:37:44Dancy and her team up there do great things with animals that are
- 1:37:48close to being euthanized or just people just they're old and whatnot
- 1:37:52just don't want to deal with them.
- 1:37:53She'll take them in and she loves them and puts them back to
- 1:37:55health and gets them out there.
- 1:37:56So it's two great entities that we're doing some fundraising for but The event
- 1:38:00itself is going to be a lot of fun.
- 1:38:01We're going to have a very wide range and eclectic things of vehicles there.
- 1:38:05We got Wixie 1260 radio station.
- 1:38:08They play 60s, 70s, 80s rock.
- 1:38:10They're going to be coming.
- 1:38:11We're going to have some other, uh, supporting businesses
- 1:38:13and stuff like that there.
- 1:38:14But the fun thing is.
- 1:38:16Right next door is the fair's going to be going on for Fairview Park where we
- 1:38:19have all the fair rides, all the fair food, and everything like that going on.
- 1:38:23So if you bring your kids and check out all the cool cars, you can
- 1:38:26walk right over, literally take you a minute, if that, to walk
- 1:38:29over and go on all the fair rides.
- 1:38:30So it's going to be a lot of fun putting everything together.
- 1:38:32Eric's coming up for it.
- 1:38:34Don's coming up from Texas to help out.
- 1:38:35So we're going to have a thing set up for MPN as well.
- 1:38:38So it's going to be a lot of fun.
- 1:38:40But the other cool thing you can do is if you go on to Exotic Car Marketplace.
- 1:38:44And you also go into the collector car guide site.
- 1:38:47You can get listing of majority events throughout the country and kind of
- 1:38:51get things narrowed down and check out what's going on in your region.
- 1:38:54Summertime in the United States, it's time to hit the shows, car shows, events,
- 1:38:58racing events, everything like that.
- 1:38:59There's always something going on every weekend.
- 1:39:01So you got good resources to go and find out.
- 1:39:03Any event you want to go check out, definitely recommend getting
- 1:39:06yourself on there and seeing what's going on in your neck of the woods.
- 1:39:09Well, you're right about that, William, because not only is it car
- 1:39:13show season, it's track day season.
