- 0:44Iowa Sports Radio Network. It's Trent Condon and Ken Miller
- 0:48for the next couple of hours talking sports with you.
- 0:50Thanks for starting your afternoon here with us wherever
- 0:52you're listening. We're certainly glad that you
- 0:54are. Here's what's coming up on our
- 0:56program. Kevin Layman at the bottom of
- 0:59the first hour. Of course, he does a lot of you
- 1:02and I basketball games, color analysts for a variety of
- 1:05different outlets, but Kevin Layman will join us.
- 1:09The coach there was every coach. He was an assistant under under
- 1:13Elden Miller. Back on way back, though, right?
- 1:15Yeah, So Kevin Layman will join us.
- 1:17I get the latest. I see Kyle Green.
- 1:19According to Colbert, who covers you and I, Kyle Green has made
- 1:23it known apparently that to the administration that you and I
- 1:28that he's interested in in that job potentially.
- 1:32So Kevin Layman coming up on the now opening the in the men's
- 1:37program at Northern Iowa. Hour number two, Matt Snyder
- 1:40covers baseball for CBSSports.com.
- 1:43Our first of our in season conversations that happen every
- 1:47week with our buddy Matt Snyder, CBSSports.com.
- 1:49Looking forward to that as we always do at 1:00, a whole lot
- 1:52of baseball conversation and then Stephen M Sipple will join
- 1:56us. We'll put a bow on Nebraska's
- 1:58basketball season. But believe it or not, they
- 2:00actually had their their spring game, their football and it was
- 2:03not, well, it wasn't 21,000 was the not advertised the
- 2:10publicized attendance number for the for the event?
- 2:14Didn't they? Don't they usually sell that
- 2:15out? I mean, they say they have in
- 2:17the past. Yeah, 60 thousand 50,000. 50,000
- 2:20range, Yeah, that's more realistic for the most part.
- 2:23There's been a couple of those seasons though, that yeah,
- 2:25they've had a banked up building.
- 2:27Not the case there, no, as the stink of Met Rule hit them on
- 2:31that Thursday night. Oh man that was great.
- 2:34A 15 to 6 run to finish off the game.
- 2:36As as soon as CBS cameras or TBS cameras showed that rule in the
- 2:40stand it was over. I would took control.
- 2:42Yeah, they did. It was.
- 2:43It was a fun night, no doubt. About and we listened to our
- 2:45listeners they wanted to hear from SIP once so.
- 2:47Is that why you wanted to have a Monday?
- 2:48Of course, yeah. Yeah.
- 2:49But good. I'm all go for it.
- 2:51Yeah, me and Sip were. We were way back, so I'm all for
- 2:53it. Heard from plenty of people that
- 2:55wanted to hear. In in Houston.
- 2:56After yet another prediction gone wrong by Stephen M Simple,
- 3:01I wanted to hear him one more time.
- 3:03Yeah, we got football conversations certainly to have
- 3:05and lots of other things. And I'll tell you what, maybe
- 3:07the reason that we didn't see big attendance at the spring
- 3:09football game Saturday, it's because a ton of them were still
- 3:11down in. You there were Oh God, really?
- 3:14They were everywhere. So their plane tickets had the
- 3:16Sunday departure non refundable. Yeah, probably so.
- 3:19Or maybe the the tax was just a little bit too much so they just
- 3:22stuck around. But what?
- 3:23Airline other than Southwest and Southwest made a ton of changes.
- 3:26Allows you to change without because Southwest has always
- 3:29done that. You have to pay if there's an
- 3:31upgrade in fair, an uptick rather in fair you have to make
- 3:34up the difference. But Southwest is always good to
- 3:37I. I love flying Southwest.
- 3:39I'm not sure I would anymore with everything that changes and
- 3:42assigned seating as opposed to the AB and CI.
- 3:45Like that I had issues with Southwest, it was never my
- 3:48favorite experience. And bags fly free.
- 3:51They did. They did.
- 3:52Yeah, and you get the Internet in your chair.
- 3:55Sometimes true, sometimes. Most of the time.
- 4:00I think there was only one flight.
- 4:01Jesus, what a difference it made it.
- 4:02You know, it's good to go so fast anyways.
- 4:05So what did you watch last night?
- 4:06Did you watch the women? I did not very good games.
- 4:09They weren't again, you know, twins play in the afternoon.
- 4:12So didn't I watched the game did you?
- 4:13And. By the way, Circus spent some
- 4:15money at Kauffman. Yeah, that they did.
- 4:17Absolutely. The bullpen and then there's a
- 4:19little a little signage out in right field as well, right
- 4:22beside the bullpen. So Circus spent some money.
- 4:25I thought it really popped. Have to share that with Mike
- 4:27when he joins us on coming up here on Friday.
- 4:31Yeah, I watched the home opener for the Royals and the Twins.
- 4:34I I love Kauffman State. It's been a while since I've
- 4:36been there. There was a couple of years, I
- 4:38think 2 for sure, maybe three years in a row.
- 4:40We went the whole opening day. Oh, really?
- 4:43John Walters, the voice of Iowa State.
- 4:45Yeah, Chuck Reed, who now sells sells here at I heart, myself
- 4:49and a couple of others that changed.
- 4:51But yeah, we did opening day at at Kauffman probably.
- 4:54Didn't enjoy an alcoholic beverage or two, huh?
- 4:58I think we probably did. Yeah, I think we probably did.
- 5:00I just think of the Korea hand. Yeah, no, we did.
- 5:03But it was a fun time anyways. Then last night, Cabrera for the
- 5:07Cubs, I thought he was outstanding.
- 5:08I really did. He pitched a hell of a game last
- 5:10night, made it through 6 innings.
- 5:12So he got the that under his, under his belt.
- 5:16Strike out five or six in the game.
- 5:19Again, it's it's the Angels and it's early.
- 5:21It's early baseball. But it was just nice to turn on,
- 5:23turn on the TV and not change it and just watch Cubs baseball for
- 5:27the entire evening. Cabrera gives up one hit.
- 5:29Kate Horton was outstanding in his cap.
- 5:32You told us a week or two ago about maybe a couple of future
- 5:34plays on that. Happy I jumped on the Circa
- 5:36Sports app and I got a couple of those in my back pocket, a
- 5:39couple bucks just to see if one of those guys can make a big
- 5:42jump, certainly this season. And Speaking of betting, your
- 5:45dream is dead. What's that?
- 5:46There's no undefeated teams left.
- 5:48It's already gone. It's done.
- 5:50So didn't. Make it on a Monday.
- 5:51So if you missed it last week and found this, I think a
- 5:55DraftKings right? Yes, it was.
- 5:57A team to start the year off 10 and O, nobody's it's over.
- 6:02Oh my God. Most of the teams have only
- 6:04played four games. There's a couple that have
- 6:06played five. The dream is dead.
- 6:08You know it could make it to the second week of the baseball.
- 6:11Season that's an anomaly I would have to think that at least
- 6:14would have gotten closer run for your money and I didn't bet it
- 6:17all right since we're starting betting help me out so you know
- 6:20I have an Illinois ticket yes and that Illinois ticket is 80
- 6:23to 1. There's four teams left yes.
- 6:27I think Michigan is head and shoulders and I love Arizona.
- 6:31I think Michigan's a better team.
- 6:33Do I just take half of the it's not a big bet I I'm going to
- 6:37make. I, I, I looked at it last night.
- 6:39It's like 1062 bucks, OK or something like that.
- 6:43But still, that's a pretty good hit, right?
- 6:44For 80 to one. I have like $13 on.
- 6:48It that'll get you through a lot of summer nights when you get
- 6:51your pup, get your app back out. And I and I and I try to stack
- 6:55up, you know, champions like two or three together like to free
- 6:59square the Duke in the final four was.
- 7:02Whoops. Anyways, So what do I do you
- 7:07take because you like Illinois to beat UConn?
- 7:10I'm not Even so sure they do that and the numbers going in
- 7:13that that direction. Illinois is now 2 1/2.
- 7:16If you believe that Illinois is going to get there, it
- 7:19simplifies things a lot more because you don't have to worry
- 7:21about Michigan, Arizona, just whoever comes out of there.
- 7:23There's your hedging opportunity, but I think that's
- 7:26a little too. Much will just be killed by
- 7:27then, because whoever wins that game right is going to be an
- 7:30overwhelming favorite. I mean, very simply, right now
- 7:33you just put 50 bucks on the other three teams, you're going
- 7:36to make a profit. You're going.
- 7:38To UConn is not winning the championship.
- 7:39There's only two teams that can win, and one of who's not
- 7:42Illinois, it's Arizona's Michigan.
- 7:44That's it. That's how I see it.
- 7:47Upsets happen. I know, I know they do it, but
- 7:49I'm going to die on that hill. I'm going to lose everything or
- 7:52I'm going to try and make a little bit of a profit.
- 7:54Well, if you're going to do that, then just put like 200 on
- 7:57each of them to win the national championship.
- 7:58Arizona and Michigan and maybe a little bit more because he
- 8:01believed in the Wolverines a little bit more.
- 8:03But that's the price. If you, if you're willing to
- 8:05stand on the hill, Yukons got no shot, You already got your
- 8:08Illinois ticket, then simply do that.
- 8:11You're going to guarantee yourself what are the future
- 8:13odds right now for those teams to win it?
- 8:15All buck 70 on mission. They might be the same like plus
- 8:18180 + 170. So you've hedged your basically
- 8:21$1000 profit, you're in now for $415.00 with 200 on each of
- 8:27them. And with that, they still won't
- 8:30be quite back to evil. No or so do or do I do this?
- 8:34Do I take if I'm going to put 200 down, do I take say 125 and
- 8:38then mess around with 75 bucks, put the Broncos win in the Super
- 8:42Bowl with them or put the I love the Chargers.
- 8:44I love the Rams, you know, put try to find the Super Bowl
- 8:47winner and stack it up. I'm not so sure Yukons the free
- 8:50square in women's hoops that we thought it was.
- 8:52Did you see the number? I opened up the the app today to
- 8:55see what Yukon is favoured over South Carolina in the final
- 8:58four. I expected to see double digits.
- 9:01It's not. It's not. 6 1/2 Wow, right,
- 9:04that's eye opening. It is eye open to what I
- 9:07thought. I thought Yukon was just going
- 9:08to steamroll through this thing for the women.
- 9:11I don't know. So yeah, $200 on each of them.
- 9:15It will be a little bit of a profit.
- 9:16You'll have something. You'll be up 100 bucks either
- 9:19way. If either Arizona or Michigan
- 9:21wins, you win at least 100. Dollars they're offering me 11
- 9:25to 1, right? Now 11 to 1. 11 to one right now
- 9:28to to cash out. Which is a return of what on
- 9:31your initial investment like 170 bucks.
- 9:34Like, yeah, like 100 and yeah, it's right around there. 160 I
- 9:37don't remember exactly. So you take the hedging
- 9:40opportunity, guarantee yourself a minimum of about $140.
- 9:44If Michigan or Arizona wins, Yukon wins, you're cooked.
- 9:47But if you play it that direction, you have that or you
- 9:50take the buyout and you're maybe profits a touch more, but you
- 9:54got three teams then covered. If you do it that way, all these
- 9:59conversations, they I like, I like the math stuff behind it
- 10:02and I, I like kind of thinking through, you know, the right way
- 10:05to hedge. But I, I would not be like you.
- 10:08I would not be willing to die on the hill that Yukon can't do it.
- 10:10At minimum. I also put 50 bucks on that.
- 10:12Would you? Yeah, I'd, I'd probably do that
- 10:14just because I've had so many bad losses throughout the years
- 10:18and and so many of those future tickets that didn't have
- 10:21actually the financial backing also to really profit on it.
- 10:25Yeah, you made a little bit, but not where you could.
- 10:28Again, the way that we bet is a lot different, I know, than many
- 10:32people out there. Right, Right.
- 10:33We're not firing every game, hundreds, thousands of dollars.
- 10:37That's not us. We're nickel and dimers.
- 10:38I don't bet. I don't bet on a game, period.
- 10:41Yeah, and you don't do any game. This would be new if I bet
- 10:44Michigan right? But it must be a hedge would be
- 10:46a different. Story, yes, absolutely.
- 10:48And that's the way you play around with it.
- 10:49Well, I have something else to talk to you, maybe off air that
- 10:52maybe something that could help you out a little bit.
- 10:54There's a lot of those calculators out there that you
- 10:56can use. Action Network has one and got a
- 10:59new place that I want to run past you that I'm going to be
- 11:01talking to later this afternoon. Are you very nice?
- 11:05Good stuff. All right, Sports from yesterday
- 11:08other than baseball. Addie deal.
- 11:11I guess we should start there. Shocking.
- 11:14Did. Did.
- 11:15Did this catch everybody off guard?
- 11:17Did, Did you get wind of this at all?
- 11:20Was there any talk in Houston? I know you're there to see the
- 11:23men, but it is Iowa and it is basketball.
- 11:25You know how conversations go, right?
- 11:27Exactly. There was nothing that I heard
- 11:29definitively, but I think you could see that that's
- 11:34potentially could happen. She had a disappointing year.
- 11:37Trend. She was not good.
- 11:38Yeah, let's be frank. Mm Hmm.
- 11:39She was not good. And, and whose fault was that
- 11:42was It was. Well, she was a five star, so
- 11:44I'm not going to blame the fan base for that.
- 11:46Yeah. She was not the one, but when
- 11:48you look at somebody that is going to turn 21 before next
- 11:52basketball season begins, she's old.
- 11:55Yeah, also relatively speaking, when Yes, right.
- 12:00Compared to what'll be normal sophomores.
- 12:02Right. The second part of that is one
- 12:06of the people that helped build up that ranking for Addie Diehl
- 12:10is also her agent. Oh Jesus, really?
- 12:14How does that happen? Now she was a McDonald's All
- 12:16American, but there was 1 recruiting service that had her
- 12:19not a top ten player in the country, not a top five player
- 12:21in the country, a top 25 player in the country.
- 12:24The expectations coupled with age, maybe a a bump up in
- 12:29profile at minimum. She didn't look overly athletic.
- 12:33She didn't look like a game changer that way.
- 12:36She shot 29% from 3. She shot 39% from the floor.
- 12:40She when she had the ball, how many times did she drive into
- 12:43the lane? No idea what she was going to
- 12:45do. It didn't look like it was a
- 12:46basketball IQ that was through the roof.
- 12:49She was a disappointment and you couple that with rumblings.
- 12:55Was there frustration that she didn't get more minutes when she
- 12:58got pulled out of the starting line up after being asserted?
- 13:00Probably that was part of it, because if she's a McDonald's
- 13:03All American, she never came off the bench in her life.
- 13:06Right, exactly. And got the opportunity after
- 13:08the McCabe injury. All right, she's in there.
- 13:10Well, they lost three in a row. She played great in the Ohio
- 13:12State game when McCabe got injured, she was excellent.
- 13:14By far her best game of the season against a quality
- 13:17opponent came in that game, knocked down some threes against
- 13:20Oregon. But you look through there
- 13:22weren't a whole lot of big moments, certainly for Addie
- 13:24deal this season. Can she get better?
- 13:26Yes. Will she get better?
- 13:28Absolutely. Mm.
- 13:29Hmm. You saw her play quite a bit
- 13:32this year. Does she look like the kind of
- 13:33player that's gonna turn into an All American?
- 13:34No, I mean, I was a nice player, right?
- 13:37I was kind of confused as to as to why she came with all of
- 13:42those accolades. And then, you know, you wanna
- 13:44is, is it the fan base? Did they just expect too much
- 13:47from her? But but she arrives as a
- 13:49McDonald's all American. So it's that's not on the fan
- 13:52base. We'll see where it goes.
- 13:54And look, she's not going to be the last in the era that we're
- 13:57in right now. As we all know this is going to
- 14:00happen more often than not. Although I do see there's
- 14:02another bill back in front of in in Washington.
- 14:05I think Tommy Tuberville is now Senator.
- 14:10One five years to play, 5, one transfer.
- 14:15If you transfer the second time, you have to sit out a year.
- 14:18I like it. I don't think it has a chance of
- 14:21passing, but I like it. Get that opportunity, get that
- 14:24free square. But if it's going to happen, we
- 14:26go back to the old way of doing it.
- 14:28I think there's a lot more problems than that in college
- 14:30athletics and the freedom movement.
- 14:33Are we also going to put that same stipulation in though for
- 14:35coaches? No.
- 14:38Well, the answer to that. Because they are employees,
- 14:41Yeah, College athletes are not in employees.
- 14:42And they tell that changes. When that changes, we're going
- 14:45to have the same conversations and these same kind of things.
- 14:48Before we get to Mike here real quick, Ryan Schultz, Cedar Falls
- 14:51basketball coach, boys basketball coach.
- 14:54He's had a ton of success, as you well know.
- 14:56Absolutely. He resigned yesterday.
- 14:58Does that does that line up with any you and I stuff that's?
- 15:02That's exactly where my mind went first.
- 15:04Well, it's not, yeah. I mean it's it seems like is
- 15:06this happening? Right that he moving up, become
- 15:10an assistant coach, whatever it is.
- 15:12With who? With Tuttle or with Green?
- 15:13Who do you think the favorite is right now?
- 15:15I still think it's Tuttle, but that will be interesting too, to
- 15:18see exactly how that plays out it and the green part of it,
- 15:21which initially I felt like I'm not so sure.
- 15:26Maybe having to take a pay cut at minimum, you're not going to
- 15:29bump up its salary to do that, but looking for an opportunity.
- 15:32Obviously the connections that he has to Cedar Falls.
- 15:35Son obviously is is. Is he the highest?
- 15:39Has he made more money than any Panther?
- 15:42Yes, because the first nickel that he earned no NBA player had
- 15:46ever played. No, no in in all sports.
- 15:49I mean cause 'cause how much did Warner make?
- 15:52Oh, probably a good. Chance.
- 15:54So Green still probably got a little bit one more contract to
- 15:57go before he surpasses Kurt Warner.
- 15:59Outside of the NBA, like when Waterloo had a team in recent
- 16:03history, the last 70 years, he was the first Panther to ever
- 16:06play in the NBA. But yeah, overall, I still would
- 16:09anticipate it was Kurt Warner. Yeah, it's not the salaries of
- 16:12today, right? And what has AJ made?
- 16:14I mean, he got that second con. 5 million guaranteed.
- 16:17Up until this point, he'd made 6.
- 16:19Kurt Warner, I'm I'm interested in this one.
- 16:22Career earnings. Take a take a guess.
- 16:25What do you think he made My number was like, I haven't hit
- 16:28enter yet. I was at like 70 million.
- 16:31That was the range that I was thinking.
- 16:33He's replayed at the wrong time. Yes, he did.
- 16:36You know what? I'll go with yours.
- 16:38You know, let me. Just to be different, I'll say
- 16:41Kurt Warner made 60. Let's see here add it all up.
- 16:46Cap charge don't care about that base salary but bonus cash paid
- 16:5151.4. Million, you're making that in a
- 16:54year now, right? Making that in a year.
- 16:57And his final year with the Rams he made 8.7.
- 17:00Pretty good deal his first year with the Rams, 153,000.
- 17:04Isn't that something? That's filed.
- 17:05Isn't that something the running back David playing for Arizona?
- 17:12David Johnson. Johnson, thank you.
- 17:14He couldn't have made that. No, no, absolutely not.
- 17:18No. So it's got to be green.
- 17:20Yeah. I would think.
- 17:21I don't think we're missing anybody.
- 17:22I. Don't think so either.
- 17:23All right, let's get Mike in Waterloo.
- 17:25We'll watch that. Kevin Layman coming up.
- 17:27More on that at the bottom of the hour.
- 17:29Mike, thanks for being patient. How are you?
- 17:32Oh, pretty good. It was a well, Iowa State did
- 17:35about as good as they could. But they had a hell of a year.
- 17:38They had a heck of you. I ain't griping about that.
- 17:40But you know who's the most important player coming back
- 17:43next year? Plato.
- 17:46I tell you, if they can get him up to 25260, he can run the
- 17:50court like a deer. And you know, when he has his
- 17:53back to the basket, he's pretty handy.
- 17:55I liked him. Yeah, we never got to see him
- 17:59doing the offensive moves because the Jeffrey, well, we
- 18:01had guys with more seniority. But next year I even think he
- 18:06could play power forward. What do you guys?
- 18:08Think I'm not sure I would be willing to go there.
- 18:11Mike, thanks for the call. I mean, I don't know.
- 18:17I don't think he's, I don't think he's his footwork is that
- 18:19good to be a power forward? I think he's in the right place.
- 18:22You don't want to take play to play out of the five, do you?
- 18:24I don't think so. I don't either.
- 18:26I don't see the skill set that. Goes along with I do like the
- 18:28fact that you can, you've got something to build there.
- 18:31I mean, I, I, I don't think we've seen the seen the pinnacle
- 18:35of his career by any means. I thought he had a nice year.
- 18:38I thought all of the freshmen had a nice year.
- 18:40Bateman certainly had his moment.
- 18:41Toure was unbelievable. I could just plug in a tape and
- 18:44just watch this guy play defense.
- 18:46And you got Mitchell coming off the injury, right?
- 18:48There was a lot of buzz about him.
- 18:49He's a junior. No, no, no, no.
- 18:51That's Mason Williams. That's Williams.
- 18:53Yeah. No, the other one that
- 18:55redshirted this year because of injury.
- 18:57I know Mitchell's a guy that at least there's some hope for
- 18:59going forward, that there are some good things hurt.
- 19:01Yeah. Better.
- 19:03They're in a good place. There's holes to fill for the
- 19:05portal, You know, you got to get some rentals, There's no doubt,
- 19:09but this program? Ran 6 kid who played at Colorado
- 19:12this year. He's in the portal.
- 19:13That makes some sense right? Absolutely.
- 19:15Watch that kid from Saint Mary's, 7 foot 3 center.
- 19:18He's going to end up somewhere. Hope he ends up in the state.
- 19:21Eight points, 9 rebounds. You look right.
- 19:23Three, $4 million. That's they do come with a price
- 19:27tag that's a little steep, isn't?
- 19:28It had a caller that mentioned another Panther.
- 19:31That made a bunch of money. That is making a bunch of money
- 19:34and is going to surpass that. Another Panther.
- 19:40You saw him in the playoffs this year.
- 19:45Who? Spencer Brown.
- 19:46Oh. Spencer Brown.
- 19:48Yes. Yeah, how much is what?
- 19:50What's he making this year? So he's signed.
- 19:52A really good one. Last year coming in for A to
- 19:55Buffalo, a four year $72 million. 20 Really. 19 and .8
- 20:00how much he's earned about 31 million, but if he gets to the
- 20:03fruition to the end of that contract.
- 20:04And how old is he now? Late. 20s That's a good
- 20:07question. Spencer Brown.
- 20:09Yeah, probably late 20s pushing. 28 Yep, just turned 28 back in
- 20:13February. Spencer Brown Goodwin, That's a
- 20:15good Paul. Hell yeah.
- 20:16Yes, forget all about him. So a nice job.
- 20:20He has done a nice job and his running mate on that team is now
- 20:24in Charger Phil. Is that where he is I.
- 20:27Think. So was with the Saints.
- 20:28Was. With the Saints, I think he was,
- 20:30he finished with the Chargers last year and they just needed
- 20:34bodies. We'll we'll see where it goes.
- 20:35But yeah, Spencer Brown going to make a lot, a lot of money, no
- 20:38doubt about that. All right, you hearing anything
- 20:40Iowa wise is what they're doing. I saw there's an official visit
- 20:44coming up, basketball related. Have you seen anything as far as
- 20:48what McCollum is about to do? Yeah, so I believe it starts
- 20:51either today or tomorrow. Tom Caker was the first I saw
- 20:53reporting that it will be Jaden Kuhn will make his visit to Iowa
- 20:57City. So you got that one rolling.
- 20:59Is he first? Is is Iowa first on the list for
- 21:01him? 1st on the list in the way that
- 21:03Tom worded it. Currently the only one on the
- 21:06list. Really.
- 21:09Now, will that continue? We'll see.
- 21:12I continue to believe it's going to happen that this.
- 21:14Only went on the list because everyone knows he's going to
- 21:17Iowa OR. Or he's just saying no to other
- 21:19opportunities because he knows he's going to Iowa.
- 21:23I would be surprised if he doesn't make his commitment to
- 21:25hawk to the Hawkeyes here very soon.
- 21:28Then after that, it's just the wild speculation and you see it.
- 21:31A guy goes in the portal and then every fan base, absolutely,
- 21:36we got a shot. This is our guy that absolutely
- 21:39you find some convoluted way that an AAU coach was buddies
- 21:42with an assistant, you know, you have all these different things.
- 21:44But at this point I haven't seen anything definitive, anything
- 21:47that I've heard from anybody that would know at this point,
- 21:50anything that's locked in. They feel good though, and I
- 21:53think they feel good about where they all are spending wise.
- 21:56I continue to hear. Keep an eye on Alvaro.
- 22:00It's you're not alone. I see that a lot I.
- 22:02I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that he'll be back
- 22:05and. So who's at and and at who's?
- 22:08I mean, who ultimately does he want to be back?
- 22:11Don't know. I mean, that had to be
- 22:13frustrating for him too. Sure.
- 22:15And with what he did in the tournament before the game
- 22:18against Illinois. Is unbelievable.
- 22:19His biggest shot as I was made in years.
- 22:21Decades. I am going to anticipate that
- 22:24there is an opportunity for him to make more in the open market
- 22:28than he would in Iowa City this year.
- 22:30And even if it was a two year deal, maybe it just makes
- 22:32financial sense for him to go that direction because he became
- 22:35a star and you put together that highlight package and doing it
- 22:38and he's got it against Florida and against Nebraska in big
- 22:41moments. Yeah, that's definitely going to
- 22:44open up some HE. Got aggressive when he was going
- 22:47to the basket during the tournament.
- 22:49He was taking on some dudes and just not flinching 1 little bit.
- 22:53I'd really love the way that his year was going until the very
- 22:56last game of the year against obviously Illinois when he
- 23:01didn't see the floor other than the 9 minutes.
- 23:02And that was based on, I guess, what a feeling for McCollum.
- 23:05So whatever. All right, 1225, Kevin Layman
- 23:08coming up. One more on the you and I front.
- 23:11A caller just passed along another name.
- 23:13We missed another name. Now I have no clue.
- 23:16But you but you've. Heard of this person?
- 23:17You've heard of this person? Come on.
- 23:19You know this person. You bet.
- 23:20This person. There it is.
- 23:23What do you think he has heard in his career?
- 23:25Not as a player. No, as a coach.
- 23:26But as a coach, career earnings for Nick Nurse.
- 23:31You got to put it in that category, right?
- 23:33Yeah. And now you know where.
- 23:35Nowhere near Nowhere near 30. Let's see here, 58 years old as
- 23:41we go to sport. Trek ton of money.
- 23:43I'm not. I'm not trying to minimize what
- 23:45he's done. Career earnings, fines,
- 23:47suspensions. Oh, it doesn't have anything on
- 23:50sport track with how? How about track?
- 23:52Just current Sixers contract. What are the Raptors?
- 23:56Pay him. So I'm going back here.
- 23:59He signed a three-year deal in 2018 followed by a four year
- 24:03extension that was 8 million a year, 8 million.
- 24:05He's making reportedly between 8:00 and a half, $9 million a
- 24:08year now. So as we go through that and you
- 24:11look 10 years at, I mean, that's $80 million, Nick Nurse.
- 24:17Championship coach. Yes, he is.
- 24:20Yeah, he was on a float in a parade in downtown Chronic.
- 24:23And he's got a deal now with those Philly fans.
- 24:25Oh my God. I'm not someone.
- 24:26Well, we'll see. I didn't look good for him
- 24:29earlier in the year, but we'll see.
- 24:32Anyways, we'll take a time out. Kevin Layman.
- 24:33That's great. Nick Nurse.
- 24:35Spencer Brown, AJ Green, we'll see if the old man follows in
- 24:41there. Kyle Green does, apparently he's
- 24:43made it known according to Colbert.
- 24:44Who covers you and I? Kevin Layman.
- 24:48Next, more on the Panthers and where they go.
- 24:50Matt Snyder, Major League Baseball conversation starts our
- 24:53second hour of the show and then Stephen M Sipple will join us at
- 24:57about 1:30. For you folks over listening on

- 25:06Network. Right 1230 welcome back Miller
- 25:16and Condon, Iowa sports radio network Sioux City Cedar Rapids,
- 25:21IA city Davenport, you're Des Moines sports station one O 6.3
- 25:25KX and ultra and I take you until 2O clock Matt Snyder
- 25:29CBSSports.com leads off our second hour.
- 25:32We'll talk Major League Baseball with our buddy Matt Snyder and
- 25:35then sip. We'll put a bow on Nebraska's a
- 25:37basketball season and recap spring football for us, for
- 25:40those folks over in Sioux City and throughout the state of
- 25:43Iowa. Nebraska, the fans, Big 10 fans,
- 25:45Nebraska haters, they all TuneIn for simple.
- 25:48Here's Kevin Lehman. He is a former coach of you and
- 25:52I. He called a bunch of Ben
- 25:55Jacobson's game, literally dozens, hundreds, maybe over the
- 25:58year. How many do you think you called
- 26:00Kevin? I think it's got to be up there
- 26:03over 100. You mentioned that 16 years I've
- 26:05been doing Valley games. I think my first game was Adam
- 26:08Emenecker's senior year is actually the game at Northern
- 26:12Iowa. I was with Rob Brooks and the
- 26:15Bulldogs won the title outright with that win.
- 26:19Nice, good stuff. Well, did you get were there any
- 26:22rumblings, I guess Kevin, that the coach Jacobson might be
- 26:27entertaining other offers after the season came to an end in the
- 26:31in the tournament? Was this known that perhaps that
- 26:35you and I is going to have a vacancy in the men's basketball
- 26:37program? Ken I had a gut feeling and it
- 26:40was nothing, just a vibe from being around there because you
- 26:43know, I go up there for game day, shoot arounds and hang
- 26:45around with Jake a little bit. But I told my compadres at the
- 26:51Valley Arch Madness when his name was leaked for the Kansas
- 26:55State job. You know, obviously he's not
- 26:57going to get that Big 12 job, but they don't leak that unless
- 27:01he's starting to look. So I thought Jeff Goodman
- 27:03leaking that out was a sign that maybe he was looking after 20
- 27:07years, 25 years at the school. And also the fact that his son,
- 27:11Hunter Jacobson, had exhausted his eligibility.
- 27:15He was going to graduate. His other son, Tanner, is a
- 27:17sophomore Nebraska, I thought. So I'm thinking if he's going to
- 27:20move, this is probably the time to do it. 55 years old, ton of
- 27:26success ends in an NCAA tournament, kind of took the
- 27:29program now in this new era of the valley and the finances at
- 27:33you and I, that's another component too.
- 27:35He made a lot of money in comparison to what's happening.
- 27:37We see obviously the contract that steps steps Scott when he
- 27:41took the football job a year ago and they're just swimming in
- 27:43different waters than most of their brethren in the Missouri
- 27:46Valley, both football and basketball in a way.
- 27:49I mean, is this financially maybe an OK thing for you and I
- 27:53basketball just knowing that it's a tough environment now and
- 27:56finance is not great up in Cedar Falls?
- 28:00Well, yeah, the Valley, if you look at Ben Jason's contract and
- 28:04it was really well done. He was going to be top 3IN
- 28:06salary in the Valley every year. That was part of the contract
- 28:10and he's going to have money to buy guarantee games, which is
- 28:13becoming huge now in the Valley. It's actually the Drake model
- 28:17that Darren Debris started. Let's buy some home games rather
- 28:20than selling ourselves to go on the road to play those power
- 28:23conference teams. Because Jake told me this, I was
- 28:26with him on the Nick Nurse golf fight a couple summers going.
- 28:28He was actually on the phone doing some scheduling at that
- 28:31time. He said, you know, I used to try
- 28:32to schedule as difficult as I could and we'd be like, you
- 28:35know, seven and five or something.
- 28:37Nobody's be talking about it. And Drake was pulled off 10 and
- 28:40110 and twos and everyone was talking about the reason Drake
- 28:44is I'm switching to that model. We're going to try and get wins
- 28:46in non conference. So there's a little buzz going
- 28:48about a program. We saw him do that the last two
- 28:51years and I think he had the funds from Megan Franklin coming
- 28:54from Drake that that was a model to follow.
- 28:58Interesting. Kevin Layman is our guest.
- 29:00Well, Kevin, who? Who do you think right now would
- 29:03would be the favorite to replace him?
- 29:06Obviously Seth Tuttle was the name the very quickly everybody
- 29:09started to, you know, point to Tuttle.
- 29:11He's going to get he's going to get a call.
- 29:13Kyle Green's name comes up. What about a guy like Ali Farouq
- 29:17Minesh, who it might be tough to get away from from Fort Collins,
- 29:20admittedly, but but clearly hit may be as big a shot as the
- 29:24Panthers have ever hit. That was that reverberated and
- 29:28does every March when they show that over and over and over
- 29:31again. What are some names that make
- 29:33some sense and who do you think is the favorite right now?
- 29:36Well, I'm kind of right where you're at.
- 29:38I think it's down to two people now.
- 29:39Ali would be great, but I think you can look at the Mount W,
- 29:43which is now soon to be the new PAC 12.
- 29:46That's the multiple, that's the multiple bid league.
- 29:47The problem with the valley now, and I've seen this with coach
- 29:50and Ben, Jason had said this to me back in December, This comes
- 29:54down to three games in March. No matter how well you do in the
- 29:57league, you got to win three games in March.
- 30:00It's going to be a one bid league.
- 30:01Mount W had fourteens in last year with this new PAC 12 Cannon
- 30:05Trail I got, I think this is, you know, with Gonzaga in there,
- 30:09they took the best teams on the Mountain West and San Diego
- 30:12State, Utah State. Then you got Oregon State in
- 30:16Washington state. I think this is a 2, maybe a
- 30:18three bid league. So for Ali to give that up, I
- 30:22think the budget's probably going to be better, much better
- 30:24in this league as far as NIL. And today, guys, you know, it's
- 30:27how much NIL money do I have to accumulate players?
- 30:31So I think there's a Kyle Green in a set pedal.
- 30:34It's a 2. It's a 2 horse race.
- 30:36Yeah, the buyout for for Openesh is way too much for you and I
- 30:40Yeah, he is. He is averaging, he's going to
- 30:43make $150,000 this year and it goes up to $1,000,000 at the end
- 30:46of the contract. The buyout 33% of the remaining
- 30:49that you and I just can't afford that set.
- 30:52Tuttle, Trent. Let me ask you this though, did
- 30:54you see EU and I contract? There was no buyout.
- 30:57Yeah, zip. That was maybe a miss.
- 31:01Yeah, maybe a miss on that front.
- 31:03When you're a mid major, you need to get something on the way
- 31:06out the door. And that, that's one I think you
- 31:08got to point back to the AD that handed out that contract and say
- 31:11that was definitely a miss. Set Tuttle.
- 31:13One thing that I've always heard about him is we remember him as
- 31:15a player. You see him on the bench.
- 31:17Oh, wait, look, there's Set Tuttle.
- 31:18But his basketball acumen, a lot of people have told me, really
- 31:23considered at a high level. Can you tell us a little bit
- 31:26about him, X's and O's, and why he is thought to be so well
- 31:30regarded in college basketball circles?
- 31:32But when AJ Green was came into you and I, they changed their
- 31:36offense and Seth Tunnel brought that offense from when he played
- 31:39in Europe. And so he is the offensive guru.
- 31:43He's been the offensive coordinator.
- 31:45I know this team had some, this leader was at some inconsistent
- 31:49offensive outing. Their defense was good enough to
- 31:51carry him through many of those times before the injuries hit.
- 31:54But he is their offensive guru, highly competitive.
- 31:58You know, he's probably about the same age Jake was when he
- 32:01got the job, so I don't think that's an issue.
- 32:04And he knows the landscape. He knows the booster landscape,
- 32:07he knows the recruiting landscape.
- 32:09And I guess Cal Green does too. You know this, you guys are like
- 32:12neck and neck. So you know the best of both
- 32:15worlds. You get Cal Green and you take
- 32:17that fellows associate head coach.
- 32:19I don't know if that's going to work or not, but yeah, I would
- 32:21have complete Faith and Steph Tuttle taking all this program
- 32:24because of his background. Can you draw a line at all
- 32:27towards the resignation of Ryan Schultz at Cedar Falls High
- 32:32School? Won a bunch, the state
- 32:33championships that sort of came out of the blue at the same
- 32:37time, same day Ben Jacobson resigned.
- 32:39Anything there that he might at least be joining the staff?
- 32:44Boy, not that I know, Ken. I don't know of any connection
- 32:47there. He's had some great players come
- 32:48out there and I don't know who's heading to.
- 32:52I've heard rumors who's heading the Utah State with Coach Jake.
- 32:55I know, you know, he feels really strong about PJ Hogan,
- 32:59who's the defensive coordinator. He's kind of replaced Kyle Green
- 33:02as their defensive guru. I tell you, when you go to
- 33:04Jake's practice now, it's interesting.
- 33:06On his game day, shoot around, he said.
- 33:08Stands on the sideline. The assistants run the entire
- 33:11thing. I would say not the entire
- 33:13thing, but about 80% complete. The opposite of what I saw Ben
- 33:16McCallum do where he's doing about 80 to 90% of game day prep
- 33:20and he lets his assistance, he gives him the full reign to do
- 33:23that as complete trust and steps over on the offense making
- 33:26adjustments whether it's PJ or Coach G running the defensive
- 33:29scout that time. So it's it's he's got complete
- 33:33trust and feels comfortable designating those areas to his
- 33:37assistance. Is it too early, Kevin, to
- 33:40speculate about a couple of guys following Coach Jake out to Utah
- 33:43State? I think at the top of the list,
- 33:45Will Hornset and what we saw out of him.
- 33:47Now, he wouldn't be a center, I don't think, in the new PAC 12.
- 33:49But certainly as a power forward, you think that could
- 33:51translate well? And the other one with another
- 33:53year of eligibility, Leon Bond began his career at Virginia.
- 33:56He's been excellent for the Panthers.
- 33:58Too early or could you maybe connect some dots that there's
- 34:01going to be some guys going with him out to Utah?
- 34:04I think you got to throw Ben Schweiger in that mix too,
- 34:06because he's applying for an extra year of injuries he had at
- 34:09Loyola. So I think there's three guys
- 34:11that are going to be in that mix and here's where it becomes
- 34:14really interesting for Ben Jacobson because if they hire
- 34:18Kyle Green or Steph fellow close friends with Ben Jackson, does
- 34:23he come in and take those players with him?
- 34:25I mean that that's a tough one there.
- 34:27Do you believe that covered completely Barrett Northern Iowa
- 34:30because it happened to him. They were Doug McDermott signed
- 34:32with you and I and he went with Max the Creighton.
- 34:36Do you do that to your to your your old staff that they would
- 34:40get the job? So, but if you listened to the
- 34:42press conference yesterday, did you guys I did not.
- 34:46First of all, who has who has outgoing press conference?
- 34:48You guys listen to that? It is Ben Jenks at his best
- 34:54complete class and he says it's up.
- 34:56We're going to have a discussion with these guys what's best for
- 34:58them in the future. He's all he's all about creating
- 35:04young men out of those players and letting them make decisions
- 35:07in life. So you did tune of that.
- 35:09It's really a class act. You mentioned Doug McDermott,
- 35:11his dad Greg obviously announced his retirement.
- 35:14He is no longer going to be paroling the the courts at head
- 35:20coach Creighton. Your thoughts on and somebody
- 35:22called in Trent to our discussion about guys that made
- 35:24a lot of money. Former you and I Panthers and
- 35:27Greg McDermott might be on the list, but you'll never know
- 35:29because Creighton doesn't report how much the earnings are.
- 35:33But but nonetheless, bless your thoughts on McDermott and his
- 35:35career. Boy, 60 years old, I think the
- 35:38NIL is probably what he got tired of because much like coach
- 35:42Jake and some other coaches, they're about development,
- 35:45keeping guys in a program, creating a family atmosphere.
- 35:48That's the one thing Jake did it Northern Iowa, he pulled
- 35:51together all those guys you know that played for you go back to
- 35:55Norm Stewart, Jim Barry, Eldon Miller, you pull them all
- 35:59together. We had 125 year reunion this
- 36:01fall where we had guys that played in the 60s came back when
- 36:05they're their letter and so he did that and that's in that same
- 36:08boat. So I just think just from what I
- 36:10heard, I got a son that lives in Omaha.
- 36:12Grant just move back to the boy, but he's well in touch with
- 36:15Creighton that Max just kind of got tired of that NIL fight and
- 36:19the fact that you couldn't keep players and develop them.
- 36:23Owen Freeman got 2 coaches to walk away, one fired and the
- 36:26other one walking away. All.
- 36:29Right, that's not very kind. All right, let's get back into
- 36:31it. Kevin, you're been in the state
- 36:34of Iowa for a long time. I know you grew up watching the
- 36:36Hawkeyes as a lot of us did this run to the Elite Eight, first
- 36:39time since 1987, getting to the Sweet 16 for the first time
- 36:44since 1999. Ben McCollum and your number
- 36:47one, obviously a rousing success.
- 36:49Just your thoughts overall and what you saw from McCollum and
- 36:51and thoughts going forward. Well, I thought the run to the
- 36:55NCA, Trump was completely unexpected by me.
- 36:57I in preseason, I said they're going to be about 10 and 10 in
- 37:02the Big 10 and a bubble team. Well, they certainly surpassed
- 37:04that. And we saw him coach at Drake,
- 37:08but this is a team that didn't have a lot of talent once you
- 37:10get past starts. I thought it was one of the best
- 37:13coaching jobs I've ever seen, especially when he got in the
- 37:16NCAA tournament. The win over Florida was just a
- 37:18magnificent. Then to come back and beat the
- 37:20Nebraska team that he split with during the season.
- 37:23But I tell you what, guys, I do have a question.
- 37:25What happened to Alvaro Vulgaris in that game against Illinois?
- 37:29How can? You not be shot in the.
- 37:31Second-half, yes, yeah. I didn't understand because
- 37:34it's, you know, and this was a contracted defense.
- 37:36Illinois had packed the paint. They need 3 point shoes.
- 37:40I know that the pole was AI need manual on there for physicality
- 37:44on the glass, but they need somebody to stretch that
- 37:46defense. I was really surprised that Paul
- 37:49Garris got sat in almost the entire second-half.
- 37:52Yeah. No doubt about it.
- 37:53Who's the best team left? Kevin of the Four.
- 37:57I think it's Arizona, although I think Michigan's pretty good.
- 37:59But Arizona's a little bit old school, you know, They don't
- 38:02shoot a lot of threes. They're pretty effective, that's
- 38:04true. They shoot, but they are big and
- 38:06strong. They're gonna attack the glass,
- 38:08attack the pink. I just think the the
- 38:10physicality. But when you get Michigan team,
- 38:13wow, I think that championship game is probably going to be
- 38:16Saturday. Night it is.
- 38:17It absolutely. Is Anything else, TC?
- 38:20Good stuff, Kevin. Thanks for lending us your
- 38:22expertise on this. It's going to happen quickly,
- 38:25don't you think? Well, we know by the end of the
- 38:27week who's taking Ben Jacobson's place.
- 38:30We have to, right? Yes, you know, in the portal
- 38:33era, getting players to speed dating and so is the coaching
- 38:38carousel. I got one last thought.
- 38:40Think of this Golden Iowa's been to 9 NCA tournaments.
- 38:44Ben Jason's been involved in eight of them, 5 as the head
- 38:48coach, 3 as an assistant. That's amazing legacy that he's
- 38:51leaving. No at Banterland.
- 38:53No question. No question about it.
- 38:54Good stuff, Kevin. Thanks for jumping on Kevin
- 38:56Layman. Enjoy it.
- 38:57Appreciate it. Hi guys, my pleasure.
- 39:00Yep. Good to talk to you Kevin
- 39:01Lehman, basketball analyst, as we take a look at you and I when
- 39:05today, tomorrow make that call. Do you think you can get them
- 39:08both? Not sure.
- 39:12Would both want to do that? Would one want to acquiesce to
- 39:14the other? Probably not.
- 39:16I don't think so. Greens.
- 39:18This is his last stop, right doing.
- 39:20He's 55. If he goes back to you and I,
- 39:23he's probably not going to be looking to jump.
- 39:26Fair. It would have to be something
- 39:27that happened very quick, like right makes the next three NCAA
- 39:31tournaments pulls an upset or two in there.
- 39:33And then he'd be 60 and. Right then 5859 and possibly
- 39:37right there could be an. Opportunity.
- 39:39It's a Tuttle, on the other hand.
- 39:40Yes, so. Does that come into the into the
- 39:44decision process? Well, and Seth Tuttle's married
- 39:47to a deary and for people in the Cedar Valley.
- 39:49They don't. Does the auto deary's Yes, Yeah.
- 39:51Good for you, Seth. Tuttle, absolutely.
- 39:53Well, he's got to probably have some assurances that, hey, we're
- 39:56going to be able to keep our players, maybe go out and get a
- 40:00player too. And if he doesn't have that,
- 40:04it's your alma mater, it's a place you love.
- 40:05However, does it make more sense to go and be an assistant coach?
- 40:10With Ben Jacobson for another year and keep moving up, moving
- 40:13up the ladder that way, yeah, it's got to be a tough spot.
- 40:16Right. Did you see that picture of
- 40:17Tuttle Walk in the corridor at the MacLeod Center?
- 40:19That's that phone too is here, Yeah.
- 40:21Absolutely. A lot of folks.
- 40:22Spent a lot of time on that phone.
- 40:24Yes, but for I didn't realize you're married to a Deering.
- 40:27Yes. There's one here, right?
- 40:28Deary brother There is on what's the road to Southeast Poke?
- 40:33Out there, Altoona somewhere, Yeah, Miller's.
- 40:36Congress, do you? Got it. 12:45, a baseball
- 40:40conversation to start off our number 2.
- 40:42We're back to wrap up the first hour of our program, Miller and
- 40:45Condon on the Iowa Sports Radio Network.
- 40:58I'm Miller. Condon.
- 40:59Welcome back Iowa Sports Radio Network our final segment here
- 41:05in the first hour of the program has reported TODAY Sports
- 41:07Business Journal trends. I'm not sure if you've seen it
- 41:09or not. The flag football women's flag
- 41:12football in the Big 12 potentially on the cusp of
- 41:15forming a relationship. Your mark says that they could
- 41:19be ready to have a six teams minimum of six teams beginning
- 41:24play in 2028 as schools looked at another women's sport to keep
- 41:29compliant with the Title 9 amongst other things.
- 41:34Your thoughts You know, just real quick, just here here are
- 41:37the numbers and I had no idea 20 million players worldwide in the
- 41:41United States they've seen it's played in the high school level
- 41:45in 3939 States and participation climbed 60% year over year.
- 41:51So girls are playing 39 states. Doesn't make sense.
- 41:55I think it does, and it's something that continues to
- 41:58grow. 2 weekends ago I flipped on Tom Brady's thing.
- 42:02It was on one of the TV's for a while.
- 42:03His flag Football League, where it was the professional flag
- 42:07football players against a bunch of NFL guys.
- 42:09And this because it's coming to the Olympics.
- 42:11Yes, now he also had one of the idiot Paul brothers was out
- 42:14there. I don't even know which one he
- 42:16was hollered and shoving people and beat an idiot.
- 42:18But. That's what makes his living
- 42:21right? Exactly.
- 42:21The flag. Very well, yes.
- 42:23The flag football guys, though, they're beating up the NFL.
- 42:25Guys are where they really. Oh yeah, absolutely.
- 42:27Because it's just a different game and you just can't go out
- 42:30there and though it's football, it's a different kind of
- 42:33football. And I think it's got a chance.
- 42:35I I'm intrigued at minimum by this.
- 42:38Would Pollard dip his toe into the water, do you think?
- 42:41Probably not, unless they have to for Title 9 reasons.
- 42:44I think that would be the reason behind it.
- 42:46But we talked a lot about wrestling and the possibility of
- 42:48that. Maybe this is kind of an easier
- 42:50bridge. What sport would be economically
- 42:54more feasible to offer? Wrestling or flag football?
- 42:59I mean, you're not playing. This is Jack Trice, are you?
- 43:01No. God, no, no, this is played in a
- 43:04field somewhere. I mean like at the soccer field,
- 43:06you know, something like that. You're doing something much more
- 43:09small scale. And yeah, field wise, I I don't
- 43:11know what makes sense. You're not going to make a
- 43:13dedicated flight football stadium, but but there were
- 43:16facilities that you already have.
- 43:18Maybe it could make sense. I don't hate it.
- 43:21You know how we sometimes just hate things right away.
- 43:23But this was one I was like. Not bad.
- 43:26I was kind of skeptical and then I read the piece and then saw
- 43:31how many how many girls are participating?
- 43:3439 states are offering. It's 60% growth year to year.
- 43:38That tells me that this catches is catching on.
- 43:40Men's and women's flag football will be a part of the 2028
- 43:44Olympics, so that doesn't. Hurt.
- 43:45No, not at all, right? Yes, it's grown.
- 43:48It continues to grow. A growing sport in a football
- 43:51star place. Where do you put it?
- 43:53You put in the spring, make it a spring sport.
- 43:57Now we got football in the spring.
- 43:58Throw it in the fall. No, you can't do it in the.
- 44:00Fall, it's going to get lost. Yep, Yep, make it out right now.
- 44:04Yeah, starts in April, ends of June, something like that.
- 44:07Smaller season, play eight games and I, I don't even know, can
- 44:12you play 3 games a week? There's this something where you
- 44:15can do that and you can actually get a bunch of games in because
- 44:18it's not the same grind of a football game where at best
- 44:21you're playing weekly. Maybe you can play a bunch of
- 44:24games and you have tournaments and you do the like.
- 44:26I'm intrigued at minimum by this idea.
- 44:29Your mark. This is better than some of the
- 44:31ones that we've come up with, including I've Been a fan, a
- 44:33glass floor. Yeah, that that didn't work, but
- 44:35you know what his credit, he realized it didn't work and went
- 44:38to the expense and the might be more so the embarrassment of
- 44:41having to wave the white flag and to admit defeat pull the.
- 44:43Plug on that one he. Did he got?
- 44:45It he got the media back courtside.
- 44:47Yeah, which made them happy, Yes, the XFL Don't they play all
- 44:51their games in one city? One of the those God forsaken
- 44:54leagues they have. I don't know if they still do
- 44:56what you're asking. Yes, for a while.
- 44:59But I, I. Does it make sense to do to just
- 45:02everybody converge on? Or do you rotate and you have a
- 45:06weekend series and once a year we're going to be in Ames and
- 45:09once we're going to be in Stillwater and then we're going
- 45:11to be in Lubbock? Everybody gets there.
- 45:12There's game one after another after another.
- 45:14And you get 8 games or whatever and you play a couple games over
- 45:17the weekend and boom, you just do it.
- 45:18That direction I again, this is out of my realm of understanding
- 45:22the way that it works, but I think a good idea.
- 45:25So you actually spent time consuming Tom Brady's flag
- 45:28football? Game it was on one of the.
- 45:29And it was OK. It was on one of the TV's.
- 45:34I wouldn't go that far. I saw your boy Joe Burrell out
- 45:38there. Killing it.
- 45:39Nope, missed on 1/4 down completion.
- 45:43I saw one play offensively from the other team.
- 45:45They scored a touch. They.
- 45:46Ran the wrong rule, but yeah. Sounds like you got some Bengals
- 45:49tickets in that pocket. Yeah, every year, every year.
- 45:54All right, our number 2. Let's get to baseball with our
- 45:57friend Matt Snyder, CBSSports.com.
- 45:59What has he seen so far this year?
- 46:01I love the ABS system, I really do.
- 46:04I think it's great the long Overdue will do that with him.
- 46:07Obviously a lot of baseball conversation.
- 46:10Then simple put a bow on Husker men's basketball as well as
- 46:13spring football. Trent will make some plays.
- 46:15Miller and Condon an hour to go on the Iowa Sports Radio
- 46:18Network.
