- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, how's it going. My name is Dan. I play
- 0:02Speaker 1: guitar for the band Aboarded. We'll be heading out on
- 0:05Speaker 1: tour in January, starting January twenty fourth in Australia, which
- 0:12Speaker 1: we're very very excited for. We haven't been for quite
- 0:16Speaker 1: a few years. I've never been, so it'll be my
- 0:18Speaker 1: first time, so I'm very excited. But yeah, we released
- 0:22Speaker 1: our album balt of Horrors about a year and a
- 0:24Speaker 1: half ago, so it's gonna be fun to bring that
- 0:28Speaker 1: to you over there, and we're down under there.
- 0:30Speaker 2: I guess, yeah, you got to go, yeah, don't You're
- 0:33Speaker 2: right before you get you madeled, the wise people will
- 0:34Speaker 2: throw shot at you.
- 0:37Speaker 1: I figured. I figured we're definitely very stoked to get
- 0:41Speaker 1: there and bring all that brutality, all that speed to you.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Heh yeah, hell yeah.
- 0:46Speaker 2: And as you say, like the board hit us try
- 0:48Speaker 2: early next year through a running spa and organ next
- 0:52Speaker 2: to me, so that part of the tool stops in
- 0:54Speaker 2: Melbourne on January twenty seventh, and you had Brisbane, Hamper
- 0:57Speaker 2: and Sydney every consecutive days, so we'll get into help.
- 1:00Speaker 2: It's lighter, but that's it's not too long after the
- 1:03Speaker 2: bestive season, right so perfect right to start there in
- 1:06Speaker 2: another country.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Oh, absolutely, absolutely, We're I'm definitely quite quite excited for
- 1:12Speaker 1: that that timing of things because I feel like the
- 1:16Speaker 1: holidays and also just at least here the kind of
- 1:20Speaker 1: like how the climate starts getting colder and more visues
- 1:22Speaker 1: around that time. It's just like it's nice to kind
- 1:24Speaker 1: of get away and step out of that that rhythm
- 1:27Speaker 1: for a little bit, just kind of and try something different.
- 1:31Speaker 1: And that's certainly going to be different, at least for me.
- 1:33Speaker 2: You know, one thing to notice Astrians might is we
- 1:36Speaker 2: are always on holidays. It's nice touching holidays.
- 1:41Speaker 1: I see. I see. Well, I mean that's not a
- 1:43Speaker 1: bad way to be at all.
- 1:44Speaker 3: That's definitely.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Have you toured with Our Spirit or Connected Me before
- 1:50Speaker 2: us it's gonna be your first time on the ride
- 1:51Speaker 2: with him.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Well, we've toured with both of those bands before. Absolutely.
- 1:57Speaker 1: We did a summer tour with Archspire in twenty twenty
- 2:02Speaker 1: four which was a great time. We toured the US
- 2:07Speaker 1: together in North America and had a lot of fun,
- 2:11Speaker 1: had a lot of fun. Those guys definitely are like
- 2:14Speaker 1: very upper ally, both musically and personally. So what we've
- 2:17Speaker 1: known those guys a long time. Kind of like the
- 2:20Speaker 1: two bands go way back there, we're very intertwined kind
- 2:22Speaker 1: of throughout the years, and sonically I feel like they
- 2:26Speaker 1: aligned very well as well, So like this makes for
- 2:28Speaker 1: a very good package. It's it's kind of broad in
- 2:31Speaker 1: the good ways, but it's also like gonna be pretty
- 2:33Speaker 1: pummeling like most of the way through, which is not
- 2:36Speaker 1: which is not bad. You know, That's that's why you
- 2:38Speaker 1: come out to a show like this. And we did
- 2:43Speaker 1: a headliner tour early earlier this year as well. We're
- 2:46Speaker 1: organized to meet were with us, so that was fantastic.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Those throughout Europe. Those guys were awesome, absolutely awesome, and
- 2:56Speaker 1: we're very excited to see them all again. Definitely good.
- 3:00Speaker 2: The press release actually calls Art Speed the fastest band
- 3:04Speaker 2: on Earth. The emphasis on fastest and earth. It's like,
- 3:07Speaker 2: I'm un familiar with their music. Bit it sounds like
- 3:09Speaker 2: a lot to live up to.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Oh yeah, absolutely, it's kind of it's kind of a
- 3:16Speaker 1: you've kind of like painted yourself into a corner with that, right,
- 3:19Speaker 1: I haven't tud but they're fast as hell. They're fast
- 3:26Speaker 1: as hell, definitely, and they definitely bring that live very
- 3:31Speaker 1: well as well, like you definitely get the like sense
- 3:34Speaker 1: for the urgency of that kind of level of speed,
- 3:37Speaker 1: you know. But I mean, Bard it is pretty fast
- 3:41Speaker 1: as well, you know. That's that's for sure. So I mean,
- 3:44Speaker 1: we'll see, maybe we'll maybe we'll have written a six
- 3:47Speaker 1: hundred bpm song just to kind of like not you
- 3:51Speaker 1: above him a little bit, poke poke the bear a
- 3:54Speaker 1: little bit, you know, like I mean, you gotta go
- 3:57Speaker 1: six fifty now, boys exactly.
- 4:03Speaker 2: The tours called the Return to Prison illand Astraye or
- 4:07Speaker 2: like who the fuck came up with that? They've got
- 4:10Speaker 2: the best sense of humor I've ever had, Like I'll
- 4:12Speaker 2: piscee myself when I saw that.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Prison Islandraine for that's pretty damn good.
- 4:19Speaker 1: You're right, you're right, But that our Aspire is definitely
- 4:22Speaker 1: all the credit for that. I'm not quite sure of
- 4:24Speaker 1: whom exactly, but but those guys, the sense of humor
- 4:28Speaker 1: is definitely very on point. So it's not surprising that
- 4:31Speaker 1: they got that one right, you know.
- 4:33Speaker 2: But a couple of people might take offense to you,
- 4:35Speaker 2: but how can you take offense to it?
- 4:37Speaker 3: It's like it's just take ourselves as fence have to.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean isn't it? Isn't it kind of isn't it? Well,
- 4:44Speaker 1: I mean not that I'm the one to speak to that.
- 4:47Speaker 1: I mean those whom you can say whatever you want,
- 4:52Speaker 1: but it's like, I feel like it's tongue in cheek
- 4:56Speaker 1: enough to be like it's quite clearly a joke, you know.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Laughing for a good five minutes, I was trying to
- 5:02Speaker 2: write the questions out my tame across that, and I
- 5:04Speaker 2: just gave up.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Yeah, that's awesome. That's that's how it should be. I mean,
- 5:09Speaker 1: like successful end ovor there. Definitely, definitely, But the poster
- 5:15Speaker 1: is also great. Definitely alliance with that as well.
- 5:18Speaker 3: Might even boy myself a shirt if they're on the shirts?
- 5:21Speaker 1: Oh, undoubtedly, undoubtedly.
- 5:23Speaker 2: So I suppose the big thing all laughed the jokes aside, Bros.
- 5:27Speaker 2: What can Australian fans expect from a board? And when
- 5:30Speaker 2: you hit our stages over you.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Well, I mean it's gonna be. It's definitely gonna be
- 5:36Speaker 1: as is always is. Our shows are very engaging to
- 5:40Speaker 1: the crowd, participation and in various ways. So it's definitely
- 5:46Speaker 1: like a very active, very active show to attend, which
- 5:51Speaker 1: is maybe like a I mean not that it's like
- 5:55Speaker 1: uncommon per se, but with death metal bands, I feel
- 5:59Speaker 1: like that are like the level that we aspire to
- 6:01Speaker 1: get with as far as crowd participation goes, is definitely
- 6:04Speaker 1: a little more than is kind of generally the case
- 6:07Speaker 1: in the genre. So it's definitely gonna be very active.
- 6:10Speaker 1: People definitely need to do some warm ups, get their
- 6:13Speaker 1: muscles ready, nice and stretched, ready to go. But it's
- 6:18Speaker 1: gonna be brutal, it's gonna be fast, it's gonna be intense.
- 6:21Speaker 1: You know, That's how it always is for us, and
- 6:23Speaker 1: we kind of just like we don't really know any
- 6:25Speaker 1: other way. That's how it's gonna be.
- 6:28Speaker 3: It's believe itself.
- 6:30Speaker 2: The Crystal I guys, the crowd are always like watching
- 6:33Speaker 2: bands and they're judging and I standing back and see
- 6:35Speaker 2: what he's doing. From a band perspective of stage, What
- 6:38Speaker 2: could a crowd do to elevate it from not a
- 6:41Speaker 2: bad gig to a fucking awesome gig. You look out there,
- 6:44Speaker 2: what do you want to see?
- 6:46Speaker 1: I mean, obviously, it's definitely always what you want to
- 6:49Speaker 1: see to see, just like movement, just general movement, general excitement. Sure,
- 6:56Speaker 1: I've definitely also played shows where like the participation hasn't
- 7:00Speaker 1: like been that much, but you still get you see
- 7:03Speaker 1: the general sense of like happiness and enjoyment. So because
- 7:08Speaker 1: people enjoy things differently, you know what I mean, And
- 7:10Speaker 1: culturally that's sometimes the case as well. And when you
- 7:13Speaker 1: see that, it's like, okay, we're all good, you know.
- 7:16Speaker 1: So it as as long as people are stoked, I guess,
- 7:19Speaker 1: you know, then they can like enjoy it kind of
- 7:21Speaker 1: however they want. But it's always the most fun, you know.
- 7:24Speaker 1: And there's just like an abundance of the stage dives
- 7:28Speaker 1: and crowdsurfing and marsh pits and all that. That's kind
- 7:31Speaker 1: of that's kind of what the culture is known for. Right.
- 7:36Speaker 2: So, actually, just saved yourself there, make so I was
- 7:38Speaker 2: about to say that's a diplomatic answer.
- 7:40Speaker 3: Now tell us what you're that you saved yourself.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Right at the end on the side of those days
- 7:49Speaker 2: through our sphere, you've got big Jet Prop and Fury
- 7:52Speaker 2: Festival line up. You firstly in Perth on twenty fourth
- 7:55Speaker 2: of January, then you got Adelaide on the thirty first
- 7:57Speaker 2: of January.
- 7:59Speaker 3: You're coming out to stop Christmas. You're starting the tour.
- 8:01Speaker 2: With the Metal Faces. Well you're finishing the tour with
- 8:03Speaker 2: the metal facet of all you guys know how to
- 8:06Speaker 2: do your ship.
- 8:09Speaker 1: It seems that way. It's uh, it's definitely I think
- 8:15Speaker 1: the optimal way to do, uh, do a run like this,
- 8:18Speaker 1: you know, to get to like kind of both hit
- 8:21Speaker 1: it off and tie it up with with something awesome
- 8:24Speaker 1: like that. You know. And from everything I've heard about
- 8:27Speaker 1: that fest, I mean, I think we're in for something
- 8:29Speaker 1: like really awesome with those those two shows. So I'm
- 8:32Speaker 1: particularly excited for those. Definitely, definitely that's gonna.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Be awesome those shows that those shows have got Polaris
- 8:38Speaker 2: is Soul Fly, Nail Bombs not a bad comeback kid
- 8:42Speaker 2: for an autopsy.
- 8:43Speaker 3: So many bands, but.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Is there anyone on there that that stands out for
- 8:47Speaker 2: you that you really want to see or you really
- 8:48Speaker 2: want to catch up with?
- 8:52Speaker 1: Well, I mean all those bands are very like notable
- 8:54Speaker 1: in the in the genres, So it's definitely like, uh,
- 8:57Speaker 1: it'd be kind of like I would arrive and and
- 9:00Speaker 1: what I would get the chance to see, I would
- 9:01Speaker 1: definitely use the opportunity to go see. I haven't seen
- 9:07Speaker 1: Comeback Kid ever, so it will be fun to see them.
- 9:10Speaker 1: I used to very much like, I listened to that
- 9:13Speaker 1: band a lot when I was in my kind of
- 9:14Speaker 1: formative years, so that's gonna be that's gonna be very
- 9:18Speaker 1: cool fit for an autopsy. I've like play shows with before,
- 9:24Speaker 1: so it's definitely gonna be cool to see those guys.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Those guys are always awesome. It's a fantastic live band,
- 9:31Speaker 1: like very talented Polaris. I've never seen live, so it
- 9:35Speaker 1: would be very cool to see them. I know that
- 9:37Speaker 1: they've kind of like they've grown considerably in the last
- 9:41Speaker 1: few years and they've kind of like become this like
- 9:44Speaker 1: huge thing, so I'm very excited. I'm not too familiar
- 9:47Speaker 1: with the band, but I just kind of like see
- 9:49Speaker 1: it seeing it through the periphery of my eye. So
- 9:53Speaker 1: it would be very cool to see that, especially in Australia.
- 9:55Speaker 3: You know, I think, well one thing too, it's gonna
- 9:58Speaker 3: be cool for you a lot. Give me.
- 10:00Speaker 2: I'm all for the diversity and festivals is coming to
- 10:03Speaker 2: like you on different sort of bands, but the bands
- 10:05Speaker 2: backstage like that have to be a little bit of
- 10:07Speaker 2: fucking metal bands over there and the fucking EMAOI bands
- 10:10Speaker 2: over there there, but especially yeah, it's all just metal,
- 10:13Speaker 2: Like you're just gonna get backstage and it's gonna be
- 10:16Speaker 2: one big party. You're not gonna have to worry about
- 10:17Speaker 2: a fending anyone. You're not gonna have to worry about
- 10:19Speaker 2: being polite. You can just run right right.
- 10:23Speaker 1: I'm with you, I'm with you. I mean, that's definitely
- 10:26Speaker 1: like the fun thing about the festivals that it becomes
- 10:28Speaker 1: this kind of like, yeah, one big party. As you said,
- 10:30Speaker 1: that's kind of the best way to put it, honestly,
- 10:32Speaker 1: that's that's how it feels. And especially I think with
- 10:37Speaker 1: being in somewhere like Australia, it's kind of for a
- 10:40Speaker 1: lot of these bands is quite far from home. So
- 10:43Speaker 1: the kind of level of the level of adventure that
- 10:46Speaker 1: people are experiencing.
- 10:47Speaker 3: The level of.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Exactly exactly not in like a disregard, but more so
- 10:54Speaker 1: and just like and just like excitement, It's like, wow,
- 10:56Speaker 1: this is very crazy, right, you know, So so that's
- 11:00Speaker 1: going to be very definitely cool. I'm excited to kind
- 11:03Speaker 1: of experience that vibe. I can only kind of imagine,
- 11:05Speaker 1: you know, how how it feels.
- 11:07Speaker 2: I've spent ten minutes really made and I already know
- 11:09Speaker 2: you're gonna love it.
- 11:12Speaker 1: In time to agree, I think so so well.
- 11:16Speaker 2: One of the best things about festivals too is why
- 11:18Speaker 2: you're always going to see a band that you might
- 11:20Speaker 2: have always wanted to see you never had or he'd
- 11:22Speaker 2: never heard of before.
- 11:22Speaker 3: So just say someone's coming to prop.
- 11:24Speaker 2: With Fury and they've never heard Aboarded before, give us
- 11:27Speaker 2: three of your songs they can listen to so they
- 11:29Speaker 2: get a good idea of what to expect.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Yeah, what to expect. I would say the Origin of
- 11:35Speaker 1: Disease is a good one, very like it has this
- 11:39Speaker 1: kind of like fast, intense vibe that aboard it is
- 11:41Speaker 1: very known for and like the extremely heavy breakdowns. So
- 11:45Speaker 1: I would say that one drett Bringer off of our
- 11:48Speaker 1: new record, the Opener off a new record. I think
- 11:50Speaker 1: that one is fantastic. It's probably my favorite one to
- 11:53Speaker 1: play live. And the third one would have to be
- 11:56Speaker 1: I think so on the Carnage Done, which is just
- 11:58Speaker 1: like Mainstay and the board it said, and it's like,
- 12:02Speaker 1: you know, just like a classic at this point, you know, definitely.
- 12:06Speaker 2: Now I've about done my research, you right, otherwise I'm
- 12:09Speaker 2: gonna sound like a dead You're pretty much the new
- 12:12Speaker 2: guy in the band. Haven't just joined in twenty twenty two,
- 12:15Speaker 2: So that's correct the how are you settling into the
- 12:18Speaker 2: row Mando? Was it an easy transition for you coming
- 12:20Speaker 2: into the band? It's take of all to sink in
- 12:23Speaker 2: it was.
- 12:24Speaker 1: I would say that it was pretty easy. Honestly, I've
- 12:30Speaker 1: kind of been very familiar with the band for for
- 12:32Speaker 1: years aboard it has always been kind of like the
- 12:35Speaker 1: kind of death metal that i've the way death metal
- 12:39Speaker 1: should be. In my opinion, it's kind of like on
- 12:42Speaker 1: the verge of like just entering like a complete chaos,
- 12:46Speaker 1: but it just like rains it in like just enough
- 12:49Speaker 1: in between and then kind of like to keep you
- 12:52Speaker 1: entertained and and and keep you like understanding where things
- 12:54Speaker 1: are at. So I think it's, uh yeah, in my opinion,
- 12:57Speaker 1: I think it's like how it should be. As far
- 13:00Speaker 1: as joining the band, it was very smooth. You know.
- 13:03Speaker 1: All the guys were super cool. We were all kind
- 13:05Speaker 1: of like on the same on the same operator, on
- 13:08Speaker 1: the same way length as well again, and it was
- 13:10Speaker 1: just kind of they trusted me to kind of do
- 13:14Speaker 1: a lot immediately, you know. As soon as I joined,
- 13:18Speaker 1: I just started writing and I kind of wrote our
- 13:22Speaker 1: first single after that, Infinite Terror, and then we pretty
- 13:26Speaker 1: much entered straight from there to the album writing mode,
- 13:31Speaker 1: and I'm very thankful and very lucky to be in
- 13:35Speaker 1: a band with people that are kind of like minded,
- 13:38Speaker 1: and everybody's just kind of like down to trust each
- 13:41Speaker 1: other and do the best and most extreme death metal
- 13:45Speaker 1: as we possibly can't.
- 13:46Speaker 2: It's right you, So you joined, just like I said,
- 13:50Speaker 2: around the same time as Baldeporus was written. So for
- 13:52Speaker 2: the next album, can we expect to see a little
- 13:54Speaker 2: bit more of your direct influence in the music or
- 13:57Speaker 2: is it so of goin to still sticky on the
- 13:58Speaker 2: sign path.
- 14:00Speaker 1: I think it's going to be on the same path,
- 14:01Speaker 1: mostly because I wrote most of that album, so so
- 14:05Speaker 1: it's kind of that's kind of along the line of
- 14:08Speaker 1: how I want the band to kind of kind of be.
- 14:11Speaker 1: But obviously with every record you want to exemplify those
- 14:15Speaker 1: traits more. You want to kind of concentrate things even better.
- 14:20Speaker 1: So definitely aspiring to one up that one, you know,
- 14:25Speaker 1: for sure. But I'm very proud of that record. I
- 14:27Speaker 1: think I think it came out very well and we
- 14:30Speaker 1: were collectively very happy with it.
- 14:31Speaker 2: So I think you've got to put you on the
- 14:33Speaker 2: spot a little bit, right, But well, what do you
- 14:35Speaker 2: think you've actually brought through.
- 14:37Speaker 3: A boarded into the bands down.
- 14:43Speaker 1: I think that I think that it's maybe just like
- 14:46Speaker 1: furthered the elements that pre existed in the band more.
- 14:51Speaker 1: I think that the breakdowns got a little heavier, the
- 14:55Speaker 1: fast stuff got a little faster, the technical things got
- 14:58Speaker 1: more technical. But mostly I guess which is like spent.
- 15:03Speaker 1: I spent a lot of time just on the writing
- 15:05Speaker 1: itself for things to kind of like keep the listener
- 15:09Speaker 1: very very locked in obviously like to eat. Each person
- 15:14Speaker 1: is going to have to answer for if that's succeeded
- 15:16Speaker 1: or not. But I feel like generally it did. I
- 15:18Speaker 1: feel like generally it did. Like the album came out
- 15:20Speaker 1: very well and it is very kind of like it
- 15:23Speaker 1: is very heavy. I think the production also helps with
- 15:26Speaker 1: it quite a bit. We got David Teraro in Denver
- 15:29Speaker 1: to produce the album. He mixed and mastered as well,
- 15:32Speaker 1: and he just kind of he has a very very
- 15:34Speaker 1: good sense for how things kind of should be. So
- 15:38Speaker 1: it has this so the album is like pleasing to
- 15:40Speaker 1: listen to, even though it's like obnoxiously aggressive.
- 15:43Speaker 2: So if you want to paint in that line and
- 15:46Speaker 2: put on the T shirt, right, that's fantastic.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Maybe we will maybe we will know.
- 15:52Speaker 3: Oh well, thanks very much for your time. I boarded
- 15:55Speaker 3: our in Australia early next year.
- 15:57Speaker 2: You've got Froth and Fury on the twenty fourth and
- 15:59Speaker 2: the thirty first January off round Brisbine, Kidney, Meldon, Delaide before.
- 16:03Speaker 3: That, bro but all the best made have you, So
- 16:06Speaker 3: Merry Christmas. We'll see you next year
- 16:08Speaker 1: Like prest Chris Pleasure
