- 0:40You are listening to the Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show, the longest running weekly
- 0:44Philly sports podcast show in the world, eleven years strong. We've got a
- 0:48great show coming for you. And as you listen to this, yes,
- 0:52I am on vacation, Jeff Warren here on vacation with my family. We've
- 0:56recorded this podcast last week. But we got a great show for you.
- 1:00Not really a lot of sports. I'm gonna tell you that right off the
- 1:03bat. So if you came to hear about the Eagles, the Phillies,
- 1:06the Flyers, the Sixers of the Union, you know what, just stop
- 1:08right now and go to another podcast because we don't have any of that this
- 1:12week. But we got a fun show for you again. I'm Jeff Warren.
- 1:15I'm here at my buddy, Eric Leonard. Boy, I really messed
- 1:19that up, didn't I. I've only known me twenty seven years. Jeff,
- 1:23Holy cow, should I actually edit that? You got leave that?
- 1:29Oh my god? Eric Leonard, Folks, Jesus feel like him in a
- 1:34time fort like you're on vacation right now. What the hell happens we're doing
- 1:38the show. I know what's going on. I don't understand this. I
- 1:41forgot your name. I forgot your name? Am I on vacation with you?
- 1:46Another life? Please? How's this work? Please come down? Please
- 1:49come down to the beach. You're not really a beach guy. I've got
- 1:55folks. I've never heard someone bitch and know more about being on vacation in
- 1:59this guy when he's at the beach. You want to text him back,
- 2:04like, could you shut the hell up? I'm at work. I'm trying
- 2:08over the years, I'm trying here to to embrace more of that that beach
- 2:13life. What are those stickers on the back of cars that I see every
- 2:17now? Salt life TRN trying to not for you, man, No it's
- 2:22not. I don't like salt life. You know what it looks like.
- 2:25Every time I see one of those stickers life slut life, Yes, I
- 2:30thought it was. It was always like on a woman's car and I'm like,
- 2:32that's pretty bold. I know, there's like a middle aged woman driving
- 2:36and I'm like, well, how are you? And then you see on
- 2:40a guy's car You're like, all right, dude, yeah, exactly,
- 2:45pull a car over, buddy. Well, my vacation is about the end.
- 2:52I've been on vacation for like three months, dude, you've been on
- 2:53vacation for a while. Now you got a job. We mentioned it a
- 2:57couple of weeks ago. Congrats again, and you're be starting soon in July.
- 3:01First. Yeah, I'm getting that point to you. I probably should
- 3:06work. I'm getting really bored. But I mean I'm very tan and I
- 3:09walk the dog everywhere. It's gonna say you're doing yard work and stuff.
- 3:13You look very tan, more than usual. Yeah. I My wife said
- 3:17I look rather Mexican right now, which is I have Mexican my heritage.
- 3:23But so yeah, the darker again, it starts to start to the homeland.
- 3:29We got some immigration issues going on in this country right now. But
- 3:30I'll watch out there in central Pennsylvania. Well, it was funny. I
- 3:34sent her a selfie of me drinking a beer the other day and she just
- 3:38broke back. You gotta watch out. And Trump's gonna get you. She's
- 3:43not even president, but he'll get you. He'll get your Well, like
- 3:47I said, you know, we got we got a fun show. I
- 3:50think here at first, Eric and I were going to get into where we
- 3:53see the sports media landscape really trending. Don't necessarily know where that conversation is
- 3:59going to go, and then we got a new top three list after that
- 4:00that we want to dive into in honor of the summer, and hopefully everybody
- 4:05else out there is gonna have some summer vacations or some getaways. That top
- 4:10three list is gonna be the top three vacation spots that we have ever been
- 4:14to. And we're gonna have some random music talk too, just talk about,
- 4:18you know, what we've been listening to and what we're what's pleasing to
- 4:21our ears as we're moving into the summer here. So why don't we just
- 4:27get started, Eric talking about where the sports media landscape is trending. And
- 4:30one of the reasons why I wanted to talk about this and discuss this with
- 4:33you quite frankly you more than Len, because I don't know, I just
- 4:38don't know how in tune Len is with regard to sports media. I mean,
- 4:43I know he's into, you know, watching the Phillies right now.
- 4:45Of course he still follows what's going on with the Eagles, flyer sixers and
- 4:48Union, but like when it comes to his consumption of sports media, I'm
- 4:53not sure where it's at. That's where I wanted to bring it up on
- 4:56this particular show, because man, the years here. We've been doing this
- 5:00show for over eleven years now, and we're getting to the point where sports
- 5:05media and this landscape is there's just a bunch of mud. There's mud,
- 5:12and there's a lot of just there's poo turns everywhere. But there's also some
- 5:16really good sports content out there as well, And I just I don't know
- 5:23where the industry is going to go because I'm not even sure if there's an
- 5:26ability at this point to do even more micro marketing to sports enthusiasts. And
- 5:30I say that because I hear so many podcasts and I even listen to certain
- 5:34podcasts. There are certain Eagles podcasts I listen to that really dive into the
- 5:40analytics of teams and players and the direction that teams are going in again based
- 5:46on statistics and analytics. And I feel like we've gotten to the point where
- 5:48it's also saturated, where sometimes I even get confused as to, Okay,
- 5:55what really is important to me in terms of my sports media consumption. Again,
- 6:01like I said, there's a lot of crap out there, and there's
- 6:03some there's some folks, god bless them, I don't know they've got a
- 6:08following. They I guess they have some listenership and they're just not good at
- 6:11what they do. And I'm not saying we're stellar at what we do,
- 6:15but we've had now exactly are shaking your head, No, we stink,
- 6:18but we've been doing it for a while and we've got we've got a base
- 6:23following, and we've had it for quite some time. But I don't know,
- 6:26I don't know if we can get any more niche within the podcast media
- 6:32landscape, the sports media landscape from where we are right now, and I
- 6:36wonder where the trends are gonna start going. Have you thought about this at
- 6:40all? Yeah, I think I said for the show, we were just
- 6:45discussing this topic a little bit, just to see what direction would possibly go
- 6:47in the conversation. But like I think the sports media landscape reflects reflects what
- 6:55social media has become. You know, it's given voice to only smart,
- 7:00smart, analytical sports fans and people that you know otherwise would not have a
- 7:06voice in the in the former media with just newspapers and talk radio. But
- 7:13it also allows for voices of like dogshit poo turns. Like you just said,
- 7:18it's gonna let everybody in it, and it's gonna like let the mediocrity
- 7:23into it. It's it's good that it's good that that landscape is so wide
- 7:28now that people do have a chance to like to have a voice where they
- 7:30didn't have one before. But man, you got to sift through the ship
- 7:33to get to the good stuff. And I my podcast tastes is still weird.
- 7:38I I'll hear about one, I'll save it to my Spotify and I
- 7:43probably sixty or seventy, but then I always wind up listening to the same
- 7:46like five ones anyway, Yeah, because yeah, it's really hard to find
- 7:49good ones. When you do, you just stay with them because I like,
- 7:54if I had, if I have a good reliable voice, like Mike
- 7:58Lombardi's the GM Shuffle is a really good one. That guy actually did the
- 8:01job, Zach Low for ESPN, The NBA guy knows his shit, And
- 8:07I mean, if I want to hear a good entertaining interview with a celebrity
- 8:13or comic, I listened to Maren's podcast, like I didn't really venture too
- 8:16far out and I'm forty seven. I just don't I don't feel like searching.
- 8:22And the thing I don't know, think this happens to you. But
- 8:26like, if you hear one bad one in a feed, do you just
- 8:30bail? Because I know I do. Dude, I got to tell you
- 8:31something that is really interesting. You just asked that question because today I was
- 8:37listening to a political podcast that I have been enjoying probably for a good six
- 8:41months now. Today's episode, as I was mowing the law and I'm listening
- 8:45to it, and I was just getting I was getting ticked off, one
- 8:48by the content, but two by the fact I'm like, this is not
- 8:52a good pot. I'm like, this is not good content here, and
- 8:56I'm like, what's being talked about here? The context is terrible, And
- 9:00I don't want to get into the political aspects of what that actual episode was
- 9:03and the podcast that it was. But I was like, oh my god,
- 9:05I don't know if I'm want to keep listening to this even though I've
- 9:09been listening to it for the past six months. That one episode, like
- 9:11you said, one episode, I was like questioning whether or not I was
- 9:15going to continue listening to this podcast. Yeah. But the good thing is
- 9:20because it is so niche. Once you do find one like I like bizarre
- 9:28comedy, I like comedy, it probably doesn't make sense to like eighty percent
- 9:31of people. Yeah, Like I love senses working over time with David Cross's
- 9:35new one. He does really strange interviews. He just goes right into it.
- 9:41You don't know if it's a bit. They're like an hour long,
- 9:45and he always has like really interesting people on his His one with Bob oden
- 9:48Kirk a few months ago was incredible. But yeah, but I like that
- 9:52I have that option that there is so many different types that it can appeal
- 9:58to all my sensive sensibilit Yeah, but it's like I said, I it
- 10:03takes a long time to find him. And you know, and unfortunately we
- 10:07were talking earlier about about sports writing and sports media. Oh yeah, let's
- 10:11get into that for a second. Yeah, like just the old days of
- 10:15you know, specifically at Philadelphia, like back back in like two thousand and
- 10:18five, I'd say I knew every Philly sports writer. I knew what I
- 10:22knew what he looked like or he or she looked like. I kind of
- 10:24knew his vibe. You know. Marcus Hayes was a douche. I can't
- 10:31think of the guy. Stan Hoffman was just incredible. He was like a
- 10:33man on the Street kind of an old old times sports writer. Those Unfortunately,
- 10:39those guys just got left behind. You know, I really missed that
- 10:43kind of old old style, stoic kind of sports uh communication writing, whatever
- 10:48you want to call it. Yeah, and that's just kind of gone with.
- 10:50I'm sure it's out there somewhere in the podcast world, but I don't
- 10:54know. And I think it's why I like mcbarti's podcast because his his very
- 10:58old school like this is how football was with greater this is what Al Davis
- 11:01used to do. I dig that. Yeah, well, a lot of
- 11:05the a lot of these writers, say you mentioned before, like before we
- 11:07hit the record button, you mentioned David Murphy, right, Like, we've
- 11:11all known David Murphy over the years and quite frankly, not a not a
- 11:15terrible writer by any stretch, but we know who these individuals are. But
- 11:20there are certain writers out there, just because they have the written platform of
- 11:26whatever publication they're writing for, they feel like they can have a podcast and
- 11:31all of a sudden, that podcast is going to help generate what, whether
- 11:33it's more readers, subscribers, whatever the case is. Just because you're a
- 11:37good writer does not mean you are going to be a good podcaster by any
- 11:41stretch of the imagination. In fact, there are some terrible podcasters out there
- 11:43who are really good writers as well. And it's interesting we're talking about this
- 11:48because I read a tweet earlier today from Eastwood on Twitter at Run It Back
- 11:54Philly. I think he's a Sixers guy, and he said, by the
- 11:56way, you nerd writers who never played a sport should be had be these
- 12:00Twitter pages and YouTubers are reacting to your reports. They're keeping your dying form
- 12:05of media relevant for the time being. I actually thought that was a pretty
- 12:09relevant topic with regard to the sports writing because there are so many bloggers out
- 12:13there. There are so many people who are writing for various websites, some
- 12:16folks we have on this web or on our podcast who write for other websites.
- 12:22And while I truly believe those individuals we have on our podcast here do
- 12:26a good job at their craft, it's one of the reasons why I bring
- 12:30them on. Not everybody is great out there, and there's some really crappy
- 12:33writers who do get a platform just because they're able to publish on the Internet.
- 12:39And I think we may be getting to that point. I wonder if
- 12:41we're coming up to that line Eric, where people are gonna really just start
- 12:46seeing that and saying, you know what, I don't want. I don't
- 12:48want shit content. I don't want the poo turds anymore. So we're gonna
- 12:52go to people who are one more entertaining too, a more desirable type of
- 12:56content. And again it's to each zone, I guess, but I thought
- 13:01that tweet that I just read was was pretty relevant. Yeah, unfortunately,
- 13:07though, what what what people want? And you see on ESPN, I
- 13:11guess that's what people want because they get all the money, you know,
- 13:16the Pat McAfee's, Yeah, the stephen A Smith kind of stuff. And
- 13:20I like Steven A. Smith. But you can't have hot takes every single
- 13:24day because eventually I'm gonna be like, I don't like, it's not even
- 13:28hot. This is just what you do. Like it's it's like, well
- 13:33I have to outdo the other station. If you'd be more outrageous, It's
- 13:35like that's just not me, Like just be better, like have the best
- 13:41coverage, being a good writer, or do it well on television. Like
- 13:45if you could just do that, you you get me. I would actually
- 13:48start watching these shows. But yeah, all it is let's just probably be
- 13:50outrageous and loud, and it's like, that's just not my my thing.
- 13:56I it is kind of sad, Like I missed the Daily Never the Sports
- 14:01or Not Sports Reports was a great TV show, and the Sun Sunday Mornings
- 14:03ESPN The Great Philly Sports Debate was a great, great show. I missed
- 14:09that. That's never gonna happen again just because guys don't people don't want to
- 14:16watch it for them. Yeah, people don't want to watch it really,
- 14:18but I would, and I know you would. But people other people,
- 14:22Oh, with other folks in general, it's not what It's not what gen
- 14:26z or is necessarily won or even maybe gen xers. At this point,
- 14:31I'm gonna sound like an old fogy here, but like I do miss two
- 14:35thousand and one grabbing the Philly Hailey News, jumping on the train and go
- 14:37to downtown and night and race and reading the back to the back sports section
- 14:41the whole drive. It's just that was awesome, Like that that will never
- 14:45be replicated. I do enjoy the new technology that all these new voices get
- 14:50get you know, get out there, like uh, Kyle what was the
- 14:54name, Kyle Newbergh Uh? Or Kyl Newbank. Yeah, john Stone is
- 15:00like guys like that would have never had a shot because one of the downsides
- 15:03of that the old days was like once Stan Hoffman got a column, he
- 15:07was there for life due Duvin Murphy was like the young up and comer.
- 15:11Yes, long time he was, remember like he was the fresh faced kid.
- 15:15I think he's probably our age, right, yes, but so you
- 15:20know, you john stonesses would never get a chance. So it's nice that
- 15:22they have that opportunity now, but I do kind of miss the old kind
- 15:26of the old guard, the old guard. Yeah, absolutely, Well,
- 15:28it's interesting we're on that subject too because I go to a marketing website just
- 15:33because what I do for a living. I go to a marketing website called
- 15:35marketing Brew. And earlier this year, Sirius XM Media Group M and Edison
- 15:43Research, they released a study that they had been doing with regard to sports
- 15:48content intake basically and so just just some interesting information from there, wanted to
- 15:54discuss really quick. Sports podcasts are the leading audio format amongst gen z forty
- 16:00two of whom said they frequently or occasionally have listened to at least one pod
- 16:04cast occasionally in the past year. Per that report, millennials listen to sports
- 16:11podcasts just as often as they listen to AMFM sports radio over the air.
- 16:15And US older generations, I can't believe we're saying that right now. At
- 16:18this point, US older generations Gen X and Baby Boomers listen to AMFM sports
- 16:23radio over the air or via online streams more often than podcasts. So we
- 16:32know where things are going here. We know where things are going with the
- 16:34younger generation. Look when I said I missed the old times at the newspaper
- 16:41on the train, I don't miss the terrestrial radio days at all. Like
- 16:47I mean, back in the day when like Stern was on and Op and
- 16:48Anthony, like I was, I was big into that. We loved them,
- 16:52Yes, we'd loved it. But like just the other day, I
- 16:56was in my car, I got rid of series in my car, I
- 16:59didn't have my phone for what a reason, and so I actually listened to
- 17:03FM radio and there was this our local rock station. The morning show was
- 17:08the one, the same, It was the same one. I was just
- 17:11shocked and I was like, oh my god, they're doing the same fucking
- 17:14show that they've been doing for twenty some years. I can't it's like this
- 17:18still exists, like people still listen. They must listen, because why would
- 17:22these people still have jobs? Yeah? Right, but yeah, I actually
- 17:26don't miss that because I didn't like it back then. It's really bad now.
- 17:30So do you think obviously with the status and the information that I just
- 17:33read from that study, I mean, it just goes to show that older
- 17:37folks are just that much more resistant to change. They're resistant to change.
- 17:44Younger generations more apt to trying out new things of course, And as we
- 17:49know pod I mean podcasts right now, even though we've been doing this for
- 17:53a long time, and even though podcasts started a lot longer, uh we
- 17:57than when we started. I mean, the podcasts have been going on probably
- 18:00for twenty years at this point. I probably should know that on the top
- 18:03of my head, but twenty twenty five years basically at this point. Yeah,
- 18:07I think I think Mayor, I think Mayor is one of the first
- 18:11ones to really popularize it. I think it's first. It was like two
- 18:14thousand and seven maybe something like that. Okay, So I mean he's getting
- 18:17he's getting up there for sure, and it's just amazing how we you know,
- 18:22as as we get older, you know, we're a little more resistant
- 18:26to change, you know. The younger generations are like, yeah, you
- 18:27know, we're going to try new things out here or there. Yeah.
- 18:32I think you and I are different though, like we don't. I don't
- 18:33think we represent most forty seven year olds. I agree, Yes, yeah,
- 18:40we like tech, we like to like The podcast thing like was immediate
- 18:42for me. I was like, oh my god, I love this.
- 18:45Yeah, like I don't have to listen to some dumb shit on the radio.
- 18:48That was just awesome. But I yeah, I listened to podcasts a
- 18:53lot. But again, it's only like five or six, I swear it,
- 19:00and I do try different ones, I think. I no, no,
- 19:04I okay, here's a weird thing though. My kids now they're you
- 19:08know, only eleven and seventeen. They don't listen to podcasts at all.
- 19:14So like, yeah, my kid doesn't think Yeah, so like is the
- 19:18podcast going to die in like ten years or like is some kind of YouTube
- 19:22sort of thing going to take awa? You know what I'm saying, Like,
- 19:25oh no, please just know my daughter has never even spoken about a
- 19:30podcast. You didn't care less. I know she's seventeen, Like she's in
- 19:33that gens whatever you call it, but I don't know, like, like,
- 19:36is this is this going to be a dying form of communication? That's
- 19:40a great question. It's a great question right here, probably probably, which
- 19:44means we may have to we may have to uh twist Land's arm and yeah,
- 19:48start doing some video here. I will say this. I will say
- 19:53this. There is something to be said for for content, the enjoy that
- 19:56is so good. And I wanted to mention this a little earlier. I
- 20:00actually do subscribe to a podcast where I pay a nine dollars and ninety nine
- 20:06cent monthly fee to get no ads and also to get other special podcasts that
- 20:12they do that are very interesting to me. And yes, this is a
- 20:15political podcast and they I'm also in a discord a special discord thing with folks
- 20:25as well, where you can interact with the guests of the podcast. And
- 20:30it's fantastic. I love it. It is great. I have a special
- 20:33feed that I have gotten where I get no ads at all, no annoying
- 20:37freaking reads from them. It's fantastic. And the actual dude they do,
- 20:44I may be given the podcast away when I say this. They do once
- 20:48a week a show that's just for subscribers called terminally online, and they talk
- 20:52about how they were terminally online that week, like going down rabbit holes of
- 20:59different times topics and different subject matters, and it is absolutely fascinating And I
- 21:03love paying my close to ten bucks a month for this for this particular service.
- 21:07We got to figure that out. We got to figure that out and
- 21:11get at least like ten people. I hopes. I've never paid for a
- 21:18podcast. Yeah, I'm actually paying for this, and I'm actually I'm enjoying
- 21:22and I don't mind. I really don't. I'm enjoying the content I actually
- 21:26need, you know what. I think. I actually subscribed to Marin at
- 21:29one point because you could get as older ones. I think, okay,
- 21:32but now with YouTube, they're all everything's all over the place. You have
- 21:34to but I don't know, I just it was a weird thought. I'm
- 21:37like my own kids, and like, even like my kids friends, they've
- 21:44when I say what I do a podcast, like some of them are like,
- 21:47oh cool, some are like like what does that even mean? Like
- 21:49they don't even like they don't even know what it means. That means our
- 21:52parents are old and just listen to AMFM radio that's what means. Or they
- 21:59just watch YouTube shorts. Yeah, exactly, exactly. If it's not a
- 22:03live stream, they don't know what the hell it even means what it is.
- 22:06Yep. All right, well, folks, we're gonna take a quick
- 22:07break here. I'd love to know what you're thinking about in terms of the
- 22:10sports media landscape and where it's trending. Shoot us off an email, Philadelphia
- 22:14Sports Table at gmail dot com. We'd love to read your email here on
- 22:17the show and respond to it. We're gonna take quick break to pay some
- 22:19bills. We'll be back in just a bit. All right, We are
- 22:25back, and we've got a new top three list that we're gonna get into
- 22:29this week again. Folks. Like I said, we're not really talking sports
- 22:32at all on this particular podcast episode, as I am on vacation right now
- 22:36again a time warp here. Whoa the top three vacation spots that we have
- 22:41ever been to? Eric, I like, when you get these started off
- 22:47our top three lists, So what's your number three? Okay, my first
- 22:51one is not flashy at all. Okay, it's probably a dump, you
- 22:55know, but in my my little key brain, I thought it was pretty
- 22:57awesome. Dutch underlined, No, the oak Creek Campground is here in Pennsylvania.
- 23:04It's it's in Narvon, Pennsylvania, which is down near like Bowmansdale.
- 23:11Yeah, I was only there. I was there twice. When I was
- 23:14a kid. We we first moved here to Pennsylvania from California. We always
- 23:18went camping out in uh like near San Francisco and stuff. It was awesome.
- 23:22I love doing that. And we my parents found a spot here and
- 23:26it's not it's not flashy, but it had a huge pool. I had
- 23:33a huge arcade, and it was just it was very much like a like
- 23:37the Great Outdoors kind of kind of thing. Like it was just it was
- 23:40like all in one kind of thing, and there were kids and you just
- 23:44kind of hung out with other other kids that were there, and it reminded
- 23:48me of like meatballs and that kind of thing. And I just have really
- 23:51good memories of it because parents didn't have a ton of money at that time
- 23:55and it was real cheap kind of camping situation, but really good memories,
- 24:00you know. And just again, like we talked about that time, it's
- 24:03never going to come back, like those spots aren't, like because I looked
- 24:07it up and now it's like a water Park, and back then it was
- 24:11like you just kind of hung out for a week. You didn't really,
- 24:15you know. I spent a lot of time playing karate champ in New York
- 24:18and actually had my first kiss oh yes, in fifth grade ooh with the
- 24:25old campground. All right, yeah, nice. I don't remember her name,
- 24:30but thank you, whoever you were. Thanks. I think a lot
- 24:32of us families did that. Who didn't all have all the money in the
- 24:34world. Growing up, it was camping. I was talking to my wife
- 24:37about it a few nights ago. Where you know, we started off.
- 24:41We had a twelve x twelve tent. We camped all throughout the Adirondacks in
- 24:45New York. And then at one point, I don't know when my when
- 24:48my parents were still together, they decided we were just going to go up
- 24:52and down the East Coast from Maine all the way to Florida. Every summer
- 24:56we were going to go camping. At least two or three times. We
- 24:59drive down to the Tennessee Smoky Mountains. We were in North Carolina, South
- 25:03Carolina. We've camped. We were camping up in Maine, New Hampshire,
- 25:07and uh, we didn't have all the money in the world. Like that's
- 25:10what you did, you know, and you're in a tent. But unfortunately,
- 25:14my parents they just were just like, Okay, we're here, we're
- 25:17camping. That's it. It's like what do I do? Although my dad
- 25:22taught me how to play chess while we were camping when I was probably I
- 25:26was probably like twelve or something, and he finally he taught me how to
- 25:29play chess, and I remember that was a good memory of like learning how
- 25:33to play chess and and what that meant to my dad and I as I
- 25:36was growing up. And uh yeah, it was a it was just camping
- 25:40was just all right, we're here, what are we gonna do? You
- 25:44remember my cheap oss fishing rode. I fished all day long? Yeah,
- 25:48my dad, that's where I learned how to put a you know, worm
- 25:51on a hook. Yeah, you know, I was afraid to do it,
- 25:53and you know, my dad finally, damn work, you can do
- 25:56it, like you know, yeah, And and you're right. I remember
- 26:00the way the tents smelled, Yes, like it was. It was tense.
- 26:04Now it's absurd, but they are like they're like luxury. I was
- 26:07just gonna say luxury tents. Yeah, like my my dad's. Our tent
- 26:11was like army Army issued. It's it was musty. You could smell the
- 26:17must like a canvas, like a canvas, and it might it might have
- 26:21been used in a war at some point, but I mean it was it
- 26:23was not comfortable at all. But we're also looking there for the week and
- 26:26it's a good memory. And that was what like O Creek Campground Number three,
- 26:30all right, very good. Number three for me has got to be.
- 26:34It's my in laws took our family and then my wife's family or my
- 26:41wife's brother's family on a fiftieth wedding anniversary vacation and it was a Disney cruise
- 26:48and it was it was just it was fucking awesome. It was incredible.
- 26:52It was Western Caribbean. We started out down outside of Orlando. It was
- 26:56actually, uh the Cape canaveral Ara where we left. We went down to
- 27:00Cosmo, Mexico, went to Jamaica, Cayman Islands, Castaway Key, which
- 27:06is Disney's own private island. It was it was just, it was just
- 27:10incredible. It was an incredible week of a Disney cruise. My kids will
- 27:14always remember it. But getting the chance to see that area of the world
- 27:18when I had never seen it before. When I'm going down some some river
- 27:22in a raft in Jamaica, and I'm like, am I gonna die here?
- 27:29You know? The waves were a little little rough at times, and
- 27:32I'm like, oh my gosh, I'm a bigger guy here, I'm gonna
- 27:34fall out of this. I'm gonna fall out of this fucking raft here.
- 27:37And oh boy, I'm a little concerned. And the guy in charged the
- 27:41raft by high as ship on Ganja and like not really paying attention. Oh,
- 27:45I mean he can't. He kept singing Bob Marley songs as we're going
- 27:48down the river. Meanwhile, meanwhile, my kids are just scared of spiders
- 27:53and bugs at that point, and we're in Jamaica going down there's spiders and
- 27:57bugs everywhere. But it was overall a great trip. Cayman Islands, we
- 28:02went out to this We went out to this sand barge area where it was
- 28:07just a sting rays everywhere and you know, you could you know, you
- 28:11can pet them and stuff like that. It was in the middle of the
- 28:12ocean. That was one of the most incredible experiences ever. Swimming with sharks
- 28:18too. We actually did that. It was a fantastic vacation. So yeah,
- 28:22you know you don't like the sharks. Huh No, sharks and roller
- 28:26coasters, man, those are my three and snakes. Yeah, I can't.
- 28:30I can't. I can't. I can't do them. So even roller
- 28:33coasters. I didn't know that about you. Oh it's horrible. Yeah,
- 28:37why would I risk my life or something so stupid? That's what I always
- 28:41think. I want one. I wanted the super Duper Looper one in like
- 28:48nineteen ninety. Did you feel it? Sorry? My watch just asked me
- 28:55the dog eight. Yeah, I didn't know what happened for a second.
- 29:02Yeah, I don't know. I've always I did the Super Ticer Looper and
- 29:03I was like, that was horrible. Never doing that again. I've never
- 29:07been on one since. So all right, well number three is my Disney
- 29:11cruise. What's your number two? Number two would definitely be back in you
- 29:19know, two thousand and six, me, my wife, uncle Len,
- 29:23and uh and my wife's brother we went to UH, Amsterdam and Brussels for
- 29:29a week. Yeah, and that was the first trip to Europe. Flew
- 29:33out of Philadelphia in the Paris. The flight there, we just Lenn and
- 29:37I just drank and ate the whole time. Why didn't I go on the
- 29:41Oh I couldn't afford it, that's right. Yeah, I think Dave too,
- 29:45he couldn't afford to. Yes, we threw it out there. Yeah
- 29:49yeah, we drank and ate the whole flight. It was an overnight flight.
- 29:53We landed, couldn't check into our spot and just kept drinking. Yep.
- 30:00So first day there was interesting. Uh we we we did partake and
- 30:03the uh you know the shops that are there, and you know it was
- 30:07legal too. I've heard there are a few shops here and there with some
- 30:11things. Yeah, there's a pretty famous story of me and what happened,
- 30:15but I'm not gonna tell her on the show. Oh Len, I love
- 30:19that story. Yeah, yeah, that's another one. But uh yeah,
- 30:23but no, but answered like sure, Amsterdam in the Red Light District and
- 30:27that's that whole thing in the party scene. Is it is really fun.
- 30:30I will say the Red Light District after like winter or twice being there,
- 30:36you kind of start to get skived out a little gross. At eleven o'clock
- 30:38at night, just perverts water. It's kind of disgusting, but like really
- 30:45experienced, like not just we went to Anne frank House and that was mind
- 30:48blowing. Yeah, we went to the ricks Chot Museum when we saw Rembrandts
- 30:52up close. It was his foreigner birthday that year. It was it was
- 30:55really cool, really really cool city. I would love to go back.
- 30:57And then we hopped on the hopped on a train and went and took it
- 31:00to Brussels and like a European train. And Brussels was amazing too, the
- 31:06Grand Plas and like we met all these Flemish people that speak German and French
- 31:11and talk to them about like really nice open people, like tell you they'll
- 31:14they'll tell you about their culture, like they'll just sit there. I went
- 31:17to a sports bar and to this day it's the wildest sports bar scene I've
- 31:21ever in my life. And it was a cricket match and it was all
- 31:26it was all Middle Eastern and Indian men and they were screaming and yelling,
- 31:30the beer flying everywhere at a cricket match and I was like, holy shit,
- 31:33they put us to shame. Man. It must have been a huge
- 31:37one because the place was packed. They all had jerseys on and stuff,
- 31:41and I'm like, I don't even understand the sport flying around. I mean
- 31:45there was like literally like if something happened like put their hands up and beer
- 31:48go flying out the bottom. Yeah, And I was like, I've never
- 31:52seen anything like this is like it was just such a cool like like I'm
- 31:56never going to experience this again, like this is once in a lifetime.
- 32:00There was at one point we're walking through Brussels and we're just hearing boom bong
- 32:02bong bong music. We turned the corner and there's a gay pride parade just
- 32:07going down the street, all right, and and just out of nowhere like
- 32:13it It's like, was this on the agenda? Like how did it like
- 32:16walking in? Because it wasn't like a small one. It was like like
- 32:19a New York City style kind of it was. It was massive, Yeah,
- 32:22and just just just a blast. Len got pickpocketed there and Brussels.
- 32:25Oh that's right, yes, of course. Yes. Some guy walked up
- 32:32behind him and put his arm around him and was trying to dance with him
- 32:36like and then apparently apparently as he was doing it, he put his hand
- 32:39down Len's pocket and ripped out like thirty year old Well, because Len's got
- 32:44that huge remember you used to have that huge wallet that he used to carry
- 32:46around with him. It's it's like a mark. It was like a mark
- 32:50on him. Here come pick. No, No, he had a he
- 32:52had a money belt on. He didn't know he did. Oh okay,
- 32:55but he kept some money in his pocket just in case, and the guy
- 32:58slipped it out. And then the guy broke a bottle when Len like try
- 33:04to like get it back, and Len just goes, give me my money
- 33:07back. It was so funny, but we laughed about it like he wouldn't.
- 33:16Actually, I like about thirty minutes we went to a bar hung out
- 33:21and he was just all red face and just staring straight ahead. And finally
- 33:22I was like, all right, can me laugh about that? But just
- 33:28this is a very very memorable trip. It was a lot of stuff happened,
- 33:30and that those two cities are just awesome. They it was really hard
- 33:37to find a city any cities in America that are that are like that.
- 33:39We got to get over there, I've told Michelle, we gotta we got
- 33:42to get over there. At some point. I don't know if we'll take
- 33:44the twins anytime soon with us over there, but still it's it's your stories
- 33:50and even and Len's stories too, makes me want to go over there.
- 33:52For sure for me number two, Buddy, and I'm sad that you are
- 33:57not a part of it. But it was. It was bad. Yeah,
- 34:00it was back before the twins were born. Len, our buddy Dave,
- 34:06and myself we went on a Midwest road trip. We leave Pennsylvania,
- 34:09We drive down to Knoxville and had just a fantastic time in Knoxville for a
- 34:15night. From Knoxville, we went to Memphis. From Memphis, we went
- 34:20to Kansas City. After Kansas City and day and our buddy Dave, his
- 34:22dad lives out in Kansas City, so we got to stay with his dad
- 34:27and his step mom out there. Enjoyed some Kansas City barbecue. We enjoyed
- 34:32some Memphis barbecue when we were there as well. Went to Rendezvous which is
- 34:37which is just oh my god, what a great, great place. I
- 34:40still have the Rendezvous seasoning you guys brought back for me. Yeah they've gone
- 34:45there. Yeah I still had upstairs. That's awesome. Michelle and I we
- 34:49actually get that all the time for like our burghers and stuff when we're grilling.
- 34:52It's so good. And the barbecue sauce we order it. She gets
- 34:54it for me for Christmas. I'm like oh, I opened up barbecue soft
- 34:58like, yeah, Rendezvous, Yeah, hey food, I'm fat so I
- 35:02h After Kansas City, we then drive to Chicago, had a couple of
- 35:07nights there. From Chicago, we went to Cleveland. Then we ended the
- 35:10journey at Penn State, you know, where all of us went to college
- 35:15and stuff. But man, that Midwest road trip was fantastic. Once we
- 35:20did get to State College, I think Dave lenn and I were a little
- 35:22sick of each other at that point after about a week and a half in
- 35:28a car just going to basically, you know, halfway across the country.
- 35:31So it was just a great trip, a lot of great experiences. Memphis
- 35:36was just fantastic. I mean and all I was. I got so loaded
- 35:39the one night and I went out on Beal Street just listening to some fantastic
- 35:44blues music and some jazz music, and like I was the only white guy
- 35:47out there too. It was fantastic. It was great. It was great.
- 35:52People they're probably like, what the hell is this guy doing out here
- 35:55right now? Where's he from? Now? It's a pretty common That was
- 36:01a pretty big touristy kind of spots national in Memphis. Yeah, and that
- 36:06was the Classic. I was the first one on our friend group to have
- 36:09a kid. Yeah, and I couldn't make the trip because you know,
- 36:13sil was like a year and a half old. Yeah, yeah, And
- 36:15it was one of those like you couldn't do this before Silva well, because
- 36:22Michelle and I were trying for a kid at that point and she was like,
- 36:25yeah, you gotta get this done, you gotta get this done,
- 36:28this trip done before we have a kid, and we ended up having two
- 36:31at the same time. But I think with that trip Eric Sun Studios in
- 36:37Memphis, I mean where Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, you know, and
- 36:42Elvis where they recorded so much amazing music. I mean stuff that we like,
- 36:50being able to stand in that room where Roy Orbison was recording like pretty
- 36:55Woman, just just the catalog from John Cash as well. My gosh,
- 37:01it's just it was. It was being somebody who was into music. It
- 37:05was so wonderful to be there in Chicago. It's where I saw Chicago for
- 37:07the first time. Just a fantastic city. We went to a Cubs game,
- 37:12it was great. When we were in Kansas City, we went to
- 37:14a Royals game. It was it was, it was, it was,
- 37:17it was. It's right up there with one of the greatest trips of my
- 37:20life. Yeah, I still resent all of you for that. I've been
- 37:25to Kansas City, awesome city. I spent a lot of time there with
- 37:29my buddy Acid. Yeah, great, great, great town. And yeah,
- 37:34I we went to the Negro We went to the Negro League Museum and
- 37:37it was it was fantastic. Yeah, but it's funny. I've taken a
- 37:42long car car rides with with my buddies macro Jay and and and the whole
- 37:46Simp and Westy and you're the first man. The first day is awesome,
- 37:52and then that secondary like you know, not a full week and a half,
- 37:55like a kind of stinks, Like what the hell? Yeah? Yeah,
- 38:00Like I said, when we got to State college, we just went
- 38:01our separate ways, like you know your friends, but you don't really know
- 38:07your friends. And yeah, I spent a lot of time with him.
- 38:07You're like, I don't like to think about him, actually exactly. I
- 38:10mean I think I was what thirty two maybe at that point, thirty two
- 38:15or thirty three I think. And I'm telling you, when I got to
- 38:17Penn State, that was the first time, the first time going back to
- 38:21our college that we went to Eric where I felt old because I went to
- 38:23the Dark Horse and I went downstairs and oh my god, everybody was looking
- 38:30at me like what are you doing here? Like an old man? What
- 38:32are you doing? You're in your early thirties. Why are you here?
- 38:37And I was just like, oh my gosh, now I'm old. Now.
- 38:40I made a trip to Stay called last summer and there are plenty of
- 38:44students still there, like taking summer classes, and I was like, holy
- 38:47shit, they look like eleven years with my son's age. Yes, all
- 38:54right, buddy, Well what's your number one? What's your number one?
- 38:57You know, top vacation spot that you've ever been to? You know,
- 39:00I was going to go, not exotic, but like kind of different.
- 39:05I've been in New Orleans a whole bunch. I love that. It's probably
- 39:07the closest Amsterdam you're going to get in this country. Yeah, Montreal was
- 39:10incredible, but uh maybe it was sentimental again Ocean seen New Jersey. Oh
- 39:16yeah, yeah, it's just it's such a great it's such a great town.
- 39:22It lot like lots and lots of good memories of going with Sarah's family
- 39:27for years and years and years, and uh, it's a dry town.
- 39:30It's a whole thing. And I remember going there in my early late twenties
- 39:35early thirties and just being like, well, not late early, but in
- 39:37my twenties just being like stupid's new bores, you're right, But then when
- 39:44you have a family you go there, you're like, oh, yeah,
- 39:45it's kind of nice, like I can get my own booze, I don't
- 39:47have to, like yeah, it's actually kind of quiet, and when you
- 39:52get older, it's I don't know, it's just a really it's just a
- 39:54really good family town, but not but not lame, you know what I
- 39:59mean, Like it's not but just it just kind of a perfect setup.
- 40:02Like every time we went down, it was always like the same thing would
- 40:06happen, Like the first night you hit up the boardwalk and you'd always get
- 40:09Mac and Maco. It's now it's makeing on manco. I think pizza some
- 40:13of the best pizza ever had my life. Yeah, and just being around
- 40:16being around uh Sarah's family just I really enjoyed, Like it just it was
- 40:22like memories of family vacations I never had, you know, the camping ones
- 40:28were fun, you know, but like it was like and I would love
- 40:30to just spend a time with her grandpa Pep, and we talk about baseball,
- 40:36we'd have we'd always drink Yngling's the first night together, and like just
- 40:39just kind of he would tell me about old the old days, the fifties
- 40:43and sixties and stuff, and there was always that one day would rain,
- 40:45so you just kind of hang out and I was sitting in the front porch
- 40:47and read a book, have some bourbon, smoke a cigar, just so
- 40:51relaxing. And the town itselfish is it's just perfect. The boardwalk's perfect.
- 40:55And I hadn't been hadn't been there in a while, but uh, again,
- 41:00like just a place that like really meant something different every time I went
- 41:04down there, Like twenties, you're just like, Wh're gonna go to a
- 41:08bar, get crazy, like city Maryland, and then you know you start
- 41:13to ease into it. You have a kid, and you're just like this
- 41:14place is fucking great, Like it's just yeah, it has everything I need
- 41:17and yeah, yeah, I think what you're talking about more is just the
- 41:20connection of the people you were with. You know, it wasn't necessarily about
- 41:23excursions or Okay, this was, like I was saying, like with the
- 41:28Disney, Chris, like, are swimming with sharks and sting rays and all
- 41:30that crap and doing you know, we were swimming with dolphins too. It's
- 41:34not that the excursions weren't fun or anything like that. But what you're talking
- 41:37about with Ocean City, New Jersey, it's just the connections, the connectivity,
- 41:40the relaxing and connectivity with family at the end of the day. I
- 41:44mean, that's kind of that's that's kind of what it's all about, you
- 41:45know, when it comes to vacations, Yeah, because I've done those vacations
- 41:50where you swam with sharks and shit. Yeah, and then you then you
- 41:52need a vacation from that vacation. Yes, Whereas whereas the OCENJ thing was
- 41:58like just relaxing, I would get home and be like, I'm good,
- 42:00I'm ready to go back to work, like fully refreshed kind of deal.
- 42:04Yep, and just and you know, specifically did the show. It is
- 42:08such a Philadelphia sports town too, Like everybody down there likes the Phillies and
- 42:14that's usually you know, in the summertime, that's the only team that is
- 42:16playing. And it's Eagles flags everywhere, flyers everywhere. It is very specific
- 42:22Philadelphia. There is no other team represented. Some New Yorker jerk offs are
- 42:27there with the Yankee stuff, but for the most part, it's all Philadelphia
- 42:30sports. I like that aspect of it too. All right, Well,
- 42:34as we're finishing up this segment, here my number one and yeah, you
- 42:37know what I'm gonna go with the where we had a lot of excursions and
- 42:40stuff like that, but it's my honeymoon. When Michelle and I we went
- 42:44to Hawaii, we did four days in Honolulu and then we had a seven
- 42:47day cruise around the islands. It was a gift that her grandmother gave to
- 42:52us. That was our wedding gift from her, and it was it was
- 42:55It was the best trip I've ever taken in my life because one we had
- 42:59the real relaxation stuff, the connectivity stuff. With those four days in Honolulu.
- 43:04We were in a hotel right off Waikiki Beach, so we would just
- 43:07I mean, I think we were on like the freaking twentieth floor. It
- 43:10was a beautiful view. You go down across the street, you go down
- 43:15to the elevators, you cross the street and you're right there at Waikiki Beach,
- 43:19and it was just it was just such a fantastic time me being a
- 43:22beat not being a beach person. As we mentioned earlier, I loved it.
- 43:25The water was nice and warm and it was clear. It was like
- 43:29actually clear blue. And after those four days of relaxation, then we were
- 43:35on the cruise. Then we had the excursions, whether we were you know,
- 43:37we were mudbugging. We went we actually rode our bikes down a volcano.
- 43:43It was like miles and miles where you just like you didn't have to
- 43:46pedal, You're just going down, like going down the volcano. It was
- 43:50great. It was fantastic and just a lot of great memories. And I
- 43:55remember her grandmother also picked up the bar tab too from the cruise ship,
- 44:00which was about two thousand bucks, probably because on a cruise they can yeah
- 44:07this margerity is twenty bucks. What are you gonna do? Yeah exactly.
- 44:12The cruise around the islands was great. Maui was fantastic, just the whole
- 44:19thing. The whole thing was great. So that's my number one. Well,
- 44:22and the best vacations are the ones that somebody else paid for, that's
- 44:25for sure. Absolutely, yes, like the Disney Yeah, we went to
- 44:30Montreal my honeymoon and my parents paid for our room and it was pretty much
- 44:37like that was pretty much like all they paid for. But that was good
- 44:39enough. Yeah. They were like, here's a credit card, pick out
- 44:42the nicest place you want. And it was like hell yeah yeah, but
- 44:45yeah, no, I've never been. I think the only downside is getting
- 44:49there. That's a long flight, right, it was rough. It was
- 44:52rough. It was like, yeah, I think it was like fourteen or
- 44:54sixteen hours something like that. Yeah, it was really tough. It's like
- 44:59it's like three I think it's like four to five hours from California, yeah,
- 45:01or three hours something like that. It's pretty far. It's very far.
- 45:05Yeah. Well it's a good discussion, very much. You got anything
- 45:07else, buddy, before we head to a quick break here, it was
- 45:10white part of the United States. I still don't understand it. Well we
- 45:14we Well, it's weird, right. They made some decisions back in the
- 45:19day with Alaska and Hawaii. Oh they did, Yeah, yes they did.
- 45:23It's just one of those things that you think about every now and again,
- 45:25like how are those It's like another country to get there, but it's
- 45:30actually the United States. Yeah. After World War Two, they're like we're
- 45:34taking this we're taking this area back. Yeah. Honestly, Pearl Harbor was
- 45:37fantastic too. I mean, I know I keep using the word fantastic,
- 45:39I do it all the time, but Pearl Harbor being there, looking at
- 45:45those ships that were there in the harbor, it was one of the most
- 45:49magnificent and just historically impactful things that I had ever seen in my life up
- 45:54until that point. It's so disrespectful to our soldiers. I know. Pearl
- 45:59Harbor was great. I know, I know, I know. Go let's
- 46:02take a break, all right, everybody, we're gonna take a break and
- 46:07we'll be back in just a bit. We're gonna get into some music talk.
- 46:09Stick with us, all right, We're back here, and uh,
- 46:15it's gotta some music talk here. Eric, I've been I've been having some
- 46:19weird not weird stuff. I mean, I think most people know that I
- 46:22enjoy metal. It's my it's my preferred genre of music to listen to.
- 46:25I can listen to folk, I can listen to, believe it or not,
- 46:29Yes, classical music, can listen to, grunge, can listen to
- 46:31just like general rock. I don't get into country too too much. I
- 46:36would say that southern rock is probably the most like quote countryish type of stuff
- 46:40that I would get into. I was listening to drive by truckers this past
- 46:44week actually. Uh, we were heading down to see my dad on Father's
- 46:49Day added on in the car and the girls were like, Dad, why
- 46:51the hell are you listening to country? I said, it's Southern rock.
- 46:53Come on, d me. T is not contry. It's it's not.
- 47:00It's southern rock. It's like a southern rock ish type of feel. I
- 47:04mean. Patterson Hood has described it as like the ghetto country ghetto boys.
- 47:08Yeah, and it's it's really is the perfect description music. It's very street
- 47:13but but it's there. It's telling their story growing up in Alabama. Yeah.
- 47:17And DBT is if I'm grilling, it's DBT. I don't grow to
- 47:22any other music. That's the only band I'll listen to when I when I
- 47:25grill. But I've really been listening to a lot of metal core music.
- 47:30And if there are some metal fans out there, you may know some of
- 47:34the some of these bands. Uh, there's a band called north Lane that
- 47:37I've been really into. Invent Animate is another band I've been into as well.
- 47:45A Red Keep is a band that I've been liking as well as Bridges
- 47:49a Blaze. I mean, I'm doubting you've heard of these bands, Eric,
- 47:52but like I've been diving deep into the metal core genre and it's just
- 47:57it's so nerdy because, like I I've been played guitar since I was ten
- 48:00years old, and it's metal, but it is really complex and extremely musical.
- 48:07And I don't mean to sound snobby about that, but these guys are
- 48:08doing stuff with the guitar, bass and drums where I'm like, holy shit,
- 48:13I'm like, how the hell are they doing this stuff. It's like
- 48:15it's like Steve v meeting like like kill Switch Engage. Basically that's basically what
- 48:22it is. And I've really been enjoying these type of bands recently, and
- 48:24I think I'm gonna I think I'm gonna go see a metal core show at
- 48:28some point here this summer. The genre was huge when I lived in Philly,
- 48:34like early two thousands, the metal core thing like almost like some of
- 48:38the bands like almost going to like mathcore kind of kind of stuff like Sugar
- 48:43Dilling Your escape Plan. They're a little heavier. I think this stuff you're
- 48:45talking about, I think yeah, But musically like like just hitting the notes.
- 48:51Like I it, it's incredible to watch. I don't necessarily like listening
- 48:55to it all the time. Yeah, but like I it's it's weird how
- 49:00that, like that genre was huge back then. I think it's kind of
- 49:04making a comeback right now. Yeah, because I see like my Instagram feed,
- 49:07I'll see you like a metal coret band. I'm like, bamn,
- 49:08is it coming back? Like it's kind of happy, kind of happy to
- 49:13see that. So I'll send you a couple I'll send you a couple of
- 49:15songs here and there. Some things I've been listening to that I that I've
- 49:19really been enjoying. I don't know if you'll like it or not, but
- 49:21I think it's evolved from the early two thousands, specifically when it comes to
- 49:25the the production and post production aspect of it, the mastering and the mix
- 49:30the mixing and mastering specifically with with how the genre is just it's transformed.
- 49:37I think a lot from them because like with Sugar, you know, they
- 49:42had they had their own they had their own set sound still, do you
- 49:44know what I mean? They have their own set sound. This is this
- 49:47is different. This is different just from a a pre production and post production
- 49:52standpoint, it's a it's a little different. It's evolved a lot more.
- 49:57Well, it's definitely evolved because at one point, like Hate Breed was considered
- 50:00a medal core band because they combined metal with hardcore? Were they really okay?
- 50:06Oh for sure? Like early because they didn't have a description, like
- 50:10I think they're just straight up like I guess they're just kind of hard rock
- 50:13now with a hardcore leader rock, Like how would you describe them though,
- 50:19Like I I wouldn't call them a hardcore band because they don't really do that
- 50:22anymore. But yeah, they're not a metal band, so like I'm not
- 50:25really sure like what like like they were considered metal core and then kind of
- 50:30the bands like a tray you became metal core, yeah, and I think
- 50:35like they kind of fell out of that description, so I'm not really sure
- 50:37what you would even call it band like that now, I thought they I've
- 50:40always I've always considered them hardcore, but then again, I I I enjoyed
- 50:45their one uh their one album, Concrete Confessional, and I don't know if
- 50:51that's hardcore. I think that's when things started maybe started changing for them a
- 50:54little bit, because I mean when I think hardcore, I think it's like
- 50:58Strife Judge just those bands are just straight hardcore, like just like like Gorilla
- 51:05Biscuits kind of deep like like those bands, to me are hardcore. And
- 51:07I think Haye Priy's first record would probably be definitely hardcore. But the second
- 51:12one they put out in like two thousand and one, Rebroke Nose of the
- 51:14Show. I think that that's when they were considered metal core because no one
- 51:19really knew what house to describe it. Yeah. Yeah, I've been a
- 51:22joy. And also I've mentioned before the band Knocked Loose. My god,
- 51:24I freaking love that band. I genuinely loved that dude. All shows sold
- 51:30out, sold out. They were in Philly, by the way, two
- 51:34weeks ago, and I tried get I tried getting tickets like a couple months
- 51:38ago, and they sold out in about two days or so. I tried
- 51:43to do the resale ticket, but it was like one hundred and forty bucks
- 51:45for resale, and I'm like, I'm like, I'm not gonna do it,
- 51:47Like on a Monday. I'm like, I got my kids to cart
- 51:51around and I'm not gonna spend one hundred and forty bucks and get my wife
- 51:53mad at me for going to see Knocked Loose, right, And I gotta
- 51:59say I don't like that. Yeah, I'm probably like a music snob,
- 52:02but like I don't like when bands like that get that big and kind of
- 52:07price out fans like you and I. Yeah, it's like I should be
- 52:10able to pay twelve dollars to see a band like that and that kind of
- 52:13souense. These are the resale tickets. These, these are the tickets that
- 52:15were bought, you know what I mean, Like they're they're the initial tickets
- 52:19were like forty five bucks I think. But even forty five dollars for like
- 52:22a a noisecore, Yeah, any any even with a core at the end.
- 52:27Yeah, I should have to pay more than forty That's really a great
- 52:30point, you know, I'm saying, like, yeah, that's really a
- 52:31great point. What have you been listening to recently? Like what what?
- 52:35What? What music avenues have you been going down? My mine's definitely a
- 52:40little heavier than metalcore. I kind of lean more death metal. But there's
- 52:45a band called NOL right now that k n O l L. That are
- 52:51they They described their uh, they described their their sound as funeral grind Oh,
- 52:58not not my grindcore, but it's really it's it's almost like black metal,
- 53:04but it's not as uh, it's not as fast. It's a little
- 53:07slower, right, and it's it. I kind of like it. It
- 53:10could be it could be seen as pretentious, but it's really like a lot
- 53:15of it's performative. The lead singer does a lot of really interesting stuff.
- 53:19If you look him up on Instagram to see, like he puts his mouth
- 53:22over some like a bunch of wires coming out of whatever the hell he's playing,
- 53:25okay, and like it makes noises through the wire. It's really really
- 53:30bizarre. But like again, like the musicianship and the artistry is just like
- 53:35the music, like the guitar players just insanely good. You should definitely look
- 53:38him up jeff on on Instagram. Just kind of watch yeah and here it.
- 53:43Yeah, you know, you know that I love the performative stuff,
- 53:45you know, I love the guy where there's different themes. I love it,
- 53:49especially like the Swedish or Norwegian metal type stuff where where there's a lot
- 53:53of like as Len calls it, Viking metal, it's not freaking Viking metal,
- 53:59but yeah, you know I love that performative stuff. I got to
- 54:00check them out. Yeah, I think you like them. They're kind of
- 54:04like Primitive Man, but a little darker, more uh little like I said,
- 54:07a little more like street performer kind of thing. It's it's I like
- 54:12them a lot. They've been on tour, they've been like opening for bigger
- 54:15death metal bands, and I think that the kind of band Like people show
- 54:20up to see the Death Mode they watch NOL and they're like, what the
- 54:22hell, yeah, sh like I kind of dig that. They're just like
- 54:25Wow, I don't know, like I don't know how to take this in,
- 54:28Like it's really intense. Nice. So some of the other like Full
- 54:32of Hell is a really good band, and Relapse and necro Is is a
- 54:38fantastic death metal band out of the Bay Area. They're really good. They're
- 54:43straight ahead death metal. I like them a lot. But then I'm also
- 54:47like, I love the kind of goth dance kind of music kind of scene,
- 54:52like like the the music he made for the opening of the show,
- 54:54like the new Stuffy kind of it kind of sounds like a night. Sins
- 55:00is a good band. They're out of Philadelphia. The drummer for Nothing that
- 55:04that's like his uh, kind of goth not like kind of goth dance kind
- 55:07of group. They're really good. Uh, Spire Circle is really good.
- 55:12They have kind of a death metal leanings, but it's way more. It
- 55:16sounds way more like Uh that was the band Nights Are There from year I
- 55:23can't remember, Like just kind of not depeche depeche Mo, but like a
- 55:27lot darker, harder. I'd like to hear. I'd like to hear that.
- 55:30Yeah, Spire Circle is really good. I'll send you that one of
- 55:34the show. And then of course, like I'm always like an indie indie
- 55:37rock guy. Uh, there's a band called Birthday Girl. It's really good.
- 55:40They just put a new record out. They open up for guy to
- 55:44buy voices on the last tour. Another band called OZine, which is a
- 55:47little more she gaysy. Both have female singers, and that that that genre
- 55:52tends to do better with with female singers. So those are kind of some
- 55:58of the bands I've been listening to. You got to send me a lot
- 56:00of these, seriously, a lot of these, all of them, all
- 56:02of them. I think you really like this Fire Circle song. Okay,
- 56:07really he only puts singles out of because he's a lone guy and his the
- 56:10logo is like like a like a death or black metal band, but the
- 56:15music's like just not that at all. It's kind of but it's really but
- 56:19it leans really dark, Like it's what I like stuff. Yeah, that's
- 56:23what I like. Seriously, Look, I love I love slow Dive now
- 56:28because of you, I mean the shoegaze scene that you kind of got me
- 56:31into there. I've really been enjoying it and exploring a lot of different bands.
- 56:36So please please send me the stuff Slow Dive, my Bloody Valentine's any
- 56:44shoegates band I'm in? Like, that's another that's another genre kind of making
- 56:47a huge comeback young bands out of Brooklyn, Philly, and uh just just
- 56:52like doing kind of just redoing, like updating the shoegaze thing a little noisier,
- 56:59but like just the really like sort of vocals, kind of a neat
- 57:02sound underneath, Like there's just the wave of noise. I like noise,
- 57:07jest. I like a lot of noise. So well, we gotta go
- 57:12to shows. We gotta go to more shows, buddy, and listen to
- 57:14a lot more noise. I Uh, we have to, we have to,
- 57:17and I can do my goth dance too. I don't care where I
- 57:22said. Do I send you the link to the Psychedelic First Jesus Mary Chain?
- 57:25Yes, yes, yeah, yes, let's go. We should hit
- 57:29that one. You could definitely do the Gods. They're starting in Philly.
- 57:31I know, I know. I love both bands. I've seen both of
- 57:36them live and man, it's one of the probably should go see them because
- 57:39I'm not sure if they're ever gonna tour again. Like, we gotta do
- 57:44it because we're getting old too, I know. And that's the kind of
- 57:49show you and I would fit in. We probably like right in the middle
- 57:52of the age group, right right, you know, yeah, all right,
- 57:55very good. Well I think that's going to do it for us.
- 57:59Here. Do you have anything else, buddy? Before we before we head
- 58:01out, I know, have a good vie. I was gonna say,
- 58:06I have a good vacation, but you're on vacation right now. I'm on
- 58:07vacation. I'm on vacation, folks. We we What about Bob is a
- 58:15huge part of our friendship. And my kids love the movie too, thank
- 58:22god. Yeah, so do mine. We discovered we just got it early
- 58:24on that you and I both love that movie and bonded over quite a bit.
- 58:28Yeah, and I'm not sure if I ever met any one of the
- 58:30loves that movie as much as you do and I do. It's just it's
- 58:32such a great movie. I still screw around with my with my daughters when
- 58:37when they're still screwing this drives me crazy. When I am pulling up into
- 58:42our driveway, I get out of the car and they're still in the back,
- 58:45like texting their friend or something like that. I'll do the what about
- 58:47Bob the Dreyfuss I walk around. I'm like, got I do that to
- 58:54the twins at least once a week. If you ever read about that movie
- 58:59or her hair listening to a podcasting those two guys, and it made the
- 59:04movie that much better. Yes, it was actually required to make. That
- 59:07would be good. And the more I watch it drive us his wife.
- 59:15Yes, it's so much better. The more you watch that movie, Yeah,
- 59:19because she's so calm. Yes, and she represents like what he's supposed
- 59:22to be. Again, my thirtieth feeling, I have to notice different things
- 59:25and I'm like, oh my god, she might be the star of the
- 59:28movie. She's so good. Leo Marvin, such a great movie yes,
- 59:37all right, folks, So that's gonna do it for us. Uh.
