- 0:00Genesis chapter 5. Let us pray, Father God, Lord
- 0:07Almighty reigns on high. Yes, God.
- 0:12Come, Father, and search us, Lord.
- 0:15Search us out, Lord. Pull out anything that does not
- 0:18belong. Lord, I pray for the Holy Spirit
- 0:21to fill us today. I pray God for supernatural
- 0:25filling and zeal today. God, I pray that you'll allow
- 0:29the words to jump off the page. Help us, Lord, to understand
- 0:32your mind, to understand your feelings and emotions, to
- 0:37understand God, what it is that you want to convey to this lost
- 0:42and dying world. Father, I pray that we'll step
- 0:45in to what you have for a step into the reality that Jesus
- 0:50Christ is Lord. Lord, help us to be the gap,
- 0:53God, between the lost and the found.
- 0:56Help us, Lord, to go out into the highways and the hedges and
- 1:00the byways, the overpasses and the homeless shelters.
- 1:03God, I pray that us as Christians, Lord, will be the
- 1:07light and the salt for such a time as this.
- 1:10Help us Father, help us to do your will.
- 1:14Help us to love you more. Help us to love our neighbors as
- 1:17our self. God, I pray that you will put
- 1:20fire to our bones. God, put wind to our back.
- 1:24God, propel us into all of the ministry that you have for us.
- 1:29Lord, help us not to sit on the sidelines.
- 1:32Help us not to grow lazy, God, but help us to get out into the
- 1:36harvest. Help us, Lord, not to live in
- 1:38fear. God, heal our bodies, heal our
- 1:41minds. God, I pray that you'll heal
- 1:43broken families and marriages. Lord.
- 1:46Lord, I pray for fathers to come back home.
- 1:49Lord, I pray for mothers to be affectionate towards their
- 1:55children. God, I pray for children to be
- 1:57obedient unto their parents. Lord, I pray for the government.
- 2:01God, I pray for police officers. Father, I pray that you'll raise
- 2:06up righteous leaders, raise up righteous warriors, God unto
- 2:10yourself to do your will, Lord, to take the whole word to the
- 2:16whole world. Lord, it's what we're after.
- 2:18Lord, we want Jesus to be supreme, Jesus to be higher and
- 2:24lifted up higher than any name. God that gets spoken.
- 2:28Lord, He is our all sufficient sacrifice worthy to be praised.
- 2:33Hosanna in the highest. Lord, we say yes and Amen to all
- 2:38the promises contained in this book.
- 2:40Lord, come and get your glory. Lord, come and teach us.
- 2:45We sit at your feet, Father, as students, we sit at your feet,
- 2:48God. As dead men.
- 2:50Lord, we lay prostate before you, God, and we pray that the
- 2:55hem of your garment will touch us, Lord, and heal us, Lord, and
- 2:58gird up our loin so that we can stand in your holy presence.
- 3:02Father, thank you, God, for all the things that you've already
- 3:05done. We enter your gates with praise
- 3:08and Thanksgiving, God. Let the mighty rushing wind come
- 3:13in. Lord breathe on us.
- 3:15Lord, light the fire. God blow upon us.
- 3:19Father, Lord, let us be found doing what it is that you'd have
- 3:27us to do today. I decrease as you increase.
- 3:30It's all about King. Jesus is not about me.
- 3:33Hide me and hide my words. Hide my thoughts.
- 3:37And Holy Spirit you teach in Jesus name I pray, Amen.
- 3:44Let's start in verse one. This is the book of the
- 3:50generations of Adam in the day that God created man in the
- 3:55likeness of man He made him. So here we're going to get to
- 3:59see a snapshot. God's going to write a prophetic
- 4:02sentence using the names of the men over the course of 4000
- 4:08years of history. You have to understand that
- 4:11these men had 900 year life spans and these men are
- 4:18overlapping over the course of 4000 years from God making Adam
- 4:24out of the dust and breathing into his nostrils.
- 4:28And here you can see that God is about to paint a masterpiece
- 4:33using the names of the genealogy from Adam all the way to Noah.
- 4:38Let's see what he spells out for us.
- 4:40Verse 2, Male and female. He created them and blessed them
- 4:45and called their name Adam in the day when they were created.
- 4:50So God is the one that gave us the name mankind and that is
- 4:56still to this day. That is our attachment, that is
- 5:01our looking back all the way to the Garden of Eden.
- 5:07And whether you are atheist, agnostic, or whether you are
- 5:11hostile towards the God of Israel, it does not change the
- 5:16fact that we all came from the same 2 parents.
- 5:21First 3. And Adam lived 130 years and had
- 5:25a son in his own likeness after his image, and he called his
- 5:28name Seth. So Seth was the replacement for
- 5:34the son that was murdered, Abel. And we see that the lineage of
- 5:39Christ is going to come through the line of Seth and Adam's name
- 5:46is man. And then we see Seth is he is
- 5:50appointed and he was the way of redemption for in the days of
- 5:58Adam after he had Seth were 800 years and he had sons and
- 6:03daughters. So the whole world was filled
- 6:08and the entire world was populated by the sons and
- 6:16daughters of Adam. But we want to look at the
- 6:21lineage of his son Seth as a juxtaposition of the lineage of
- 6:29Cain. And Cain is where we saw so much
- 6:33of the industry of the world pop up.
- 6:36But through the lineage of Seth, we see the spirituality, we see
- 6:42revival, we see an interest in God.
- 6:45We see that they are walking this earth in tune with the
- 6:51loving Father who created them five.
- 6:57And all the days that Adam lived were 930 years and he died.
- 7:01And there's the first and he died.
- 7:04And that is what you're going to see throughout this chapter is
- 7:08and he died and he died and he died.
- 7:11And so as we listen to it, you need to understand that our
- 7:17mortality is on the table every day.
- 7:20We do not know if we're going to get another day.
- 7:23And we must wrestle with these things while we still have
- 7:27breath in our lungs. 10 out of 10 people die.
- 7:31And that is the sad reality, friends.
- 7:34But we must come to grips with it.
- 7:37We cannot believe the lie that we're just going to live forever
- 7:41and that we will not die. Friends, it is a grave mistake
- 7:46when we try to hold on to this life.
- 7:49He, Jesus Christ Himself, said if you try to hold on to your
- 7:53life, you'll lose it. But if you lose your life for
- 7:56His name's sake, you will gain eternal life.
- 7:59And that is where we live. We live in that tension,
- 8:02friends, in between knowing that eternity is ahead of us.
- 8:07But this life is frail. 6 And Seth lived 105 years and he had
- 8:14Enos. So this Enos friends, this is
- 8:18the frailty of life that I mentioned.
- 8:20This is where they started to understand as they saw Adam die
- 8:25at 900 and something years, they saw that there is this frailty
- 8:30of life and they were not going to live forever.
- 8:34And God said from the dust you came from, from the dust you
- 8:37will return. And so that is where Enos's name
- 8:42comes in. We see the frailty of life.
- 8:44We see that men started to wrestle with their mortality. 7
- 8:56And Seth lived after he had Enos 807 years, and he had sons and
- 9:02daughters. 8 And all the days of Seth were 912 years, and he
- 9:08died. 9 And Enos lived 90 years, and he had Canaan.
- 9:15So this Canaan is sorrow as it fills the earth.
- 9:20We see that through Adam's fall, we see that mankind had a curse
- 9:29on the ground that he lived on. We see that God had to punish
- 9:34mankind for the fall. And then we see this Redeemer
- 9:38starting to creep into the story.
- 9:41We see through Seth, he is appointed a way of redemption.
- 9:45We see through Enosh this frailty of life, and then in
- 9:49Canaan's life, the sentence that God wants to right is that
- 9:54there's sorrow filling the earth.
- 10:02Tananinos lived after he had Canaan 815 years and he had sons
- 10:09and daughters 11 and all the days of Enos were 905 years and
- 10:21he died. So you can see these men he's
- 10:24and he's, he's dying and he's dying and he's dying.
- 10:27And we must wrestle with it as well.
- 10:30Friends. Every single day that you wake
- 10:33up, you turn your heart and you turn your mind, you turn your
- 10:37will and emotions, you turn your whole complete self towards God
- 10:43and completely sell out to the Lord and do not believe that
- 10:47you're going to just last forever.
- 10:50When we are young men, we think that we are immortal, but as you
- 10:54get older you start to see the frailty of life and all the
- 10:58sorrow that fills the land. 12 And Kaden lived 70 years and had
- 11:06Mahalalel. So this Mahalalel is the first
- 11:11time you see the L in a man's name, and this is signifying
- 11:17that Jesus Christ is going to come fully man and fully God.
- 11:23And Mahalalel is God's blessing, where he is pronouncing that
- 11:28he's going to bring salvation to mankind. 13 And Canaan lived
- 11:38after he had Mahalalel 840 years and had sons and daughters. 14
- 11:45And all the days of Canaan were 910 years, and he died 15 And
- 11:52Mahalalel lived 65 years and had Jared.
- 11:58So this Jared is God is going to come down.
- 12:02He shall come down friends. And that is what Jesus Christ
- 12:07did. He came down as a precious
- 12:10little baby in a Manger, helpless, fully God and fully
- 12:17man, born to two impoverished young people.
- 12:22And you can see that God's promise was pronounced in the
- 12:26name. Jared
- 12:3916. And Mahalalel lived, and he had
- 12:42Jared 830 years and had sons and daughters 17.
- 12:47And all the days of Mahalalel were 895 years, and he died 18.
- 12:54And Jared lived 162 years. And he had Enoch.
- 12:59Now, the word Ignoch, the name Enoch's enigmatic through the
- 13:04line of all the people that have died.
- 13:06And we have to look into Enoch. And Enoch is a dedicated
- 13:12teacher, and he's showing us that there is another way.
- 13:15And he was a prototype of all of the raptured Saints that would
- 13:19come. And that is the beauty of how
- 13:22God operates. And He can allow you to go back
- 13:26down into the dust, and He can raise you up into an
- 13:30imperishable tent, or He could translate you into heaven
- 13:35immediately, as he did with Elijah and as he did with Enoch,
- 13:41friends. And that is the limitless power
- 13:45of an Almighty God. He is not bound to just one way.
- 13:49He can do whatever he pleases. So this Enoch is breaking the
- 13:57cycle of those who die. 19 And Jared lived after he had Enoch
- 14:05800 years, and he had sons and daughters, and all the days of
- 14:09Jared were 962 years. And he died. 21 And Enoch lived
- 14:1665 years and had Methuselah. So this Methuselah, Francis, his
- 14:23name means that his death shall bring.
- 14:27And it is pointing towards the fact that the year that
- 14:32Methuselah dies, the flood will come.
- 14:35His death will bring the judgment upon the entire earth.
- 14:40And what a magnificent prophecy wrapped up in the name
- 14:45Methuselah, that death shall bring the flood. 22 And Enoch
- 14:54walked with God, and he had Methuselah 300 years, and had
- 14:59sons and daughters. So we see that Enoch walked with
- 15:04God, and perhaps that is the reason that he was caught up to
- 15:09meet him in the air. Perhaps that is the reason, and
- 15:13that is the greatest lesson in the entire chapter of Genesis
- 15:18chapter 5. Friends, are you walking with
- 15:23God? Take every thought captive and
- 15:26make it obedient unto God. Make it obedient unto Christ.
- 15:31Lay the truth of Scripture over every lie that creeps into your
- 15:35mind. Do not go by the wayside.
- 15:38Do not just think that life goes on and on and on, and it's all
- 15:43about the amassment of materialism, all about the
- 15:46amassment of wealth, all about the love of mammon.
- 15:50Friends, we must walk with God. That is the invitation that He
- 15:55is stretching out His hands to you today, and He's inviting you
- 16:00on the greatest journey that you'll ever go on.
- 16:03And we should be found walking with God, just as Enoch did,
- 16:08Friends. And the Spirit of God is inside
- 16:12of you. The Spirit of God will guide you
- 16:16through all of life's existential crises, all of
- 16:20life's demands, and we must be found walking with God in the
- 16:25office and walking with God in the living room and walking with
- 16:29God in the streets and on the sidewalk.
- 16:32Walking with God in the grocery stores, walking with God in the
- 16:36banks. Walking with God as we drive and
- 16:39as we are in our professions and at leisure.
- 16:42We walk with God and we never turn it off, Friends. 23 And all
- 16:52the days of Enoch were 365 years. 24 And Enoch walked with
- 16:57God, and he was not, for God took him, for all the Saints who
- 17:06are living, when Jesus comes to take his bride, we will be taken
- 17:13up to meet him in the air in the same way that Enoch was.
- 17:19This is not some science fiction fable, friends.
- 17:23This is the reality of what God can do and he will do.
- 17:28And it is 100% reliable and you can take it to the bank.
- 17:33Friends. 25 in Methuselah lived 180 and seven years and had
- 17:42Lamech. So this Lamech is despair in the
- 17:46brokenness of mankind, right before the judgment, right
- 17:50before Noah gets on the ark, friends, you can see the despair
- 17:58that's going on when the sons of God married the daughters of
- 18:02men, friends. And we see the Nephilim on the
- 18:05land, and every thought continuously was evil, and it
- 18:09grieved God that He had made mankind.
- 18:12That is what this Lamech means. It's despair.
- 18:16It's the brokenness that's in the world.
- 18:18And can we not relate friends to today?
- 18:27Just look around. There is nothing but broken
- 18:30families. There is nothing but despair in
- 18:36the world, friends. But God's calling us to higher
- 18:39ground. We're the overlap.
- 18:41We are to live in the overlap of heaven on earth.
- 18:44Friends 26 and Methuselah lived and he had Lamech 782 years and
- 18:58begat sons and daughters 27 and all the days of Methuselah were
- 19:03969 years and he died. So this was the longest living
- 19:11man on planet earth ever to exist.
- 19:18This Methuselah, his death shall bring the flood. 28 In Lamech
- 19:30lived 182 years and had a son, and he called his name Noah,
- 19:37saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil
- 19:42of our hands, because the ground which the Lord has cursed,
- 19:46there's the cursing of the ground that was mentioned
- 19:49whenever the fall of mankind and the eating of the forbidden
- 19:52fruit, friends, and you see that Noah is rest and comfort.
- 19:57This is relief from the curse, friends.
- 20:00This is the type of Christ. It is the ark that we all must
- 20:04get in, friends. Get in Christ, in Him in you.
- 20:08Abide friends, and whenever the judgment comes, we will be safe.
- 20:1930 And Lamech lived after he had Noah 595 years and had sons and
- 20:26daughters, and all the days of Lamech were 777 years, and he
- 20:34died. So what an amazing prophecy.
- 20:37You could see that Lamech had Noah and Noah is building this
- 20:43ark. And then Lamech dies.
- 20:45Friends, we'll end on 32. And Noah was 500 years old and
- 20:52Noah had Shem, Ham and Japheth and the whole world was
- 20:57repopulated with these four men and their four wives.
- 21:03What an amazing thought that the Bible is accurate and true and
- 21:08trustworthy and we see 4000 years of history wrapped up in
- 21:13the genealogy here in Genesis chapter 5.
- 21:17And the most beautiful thing is that Noah was still living when
- 21:23Abraham was called from the land of the Chaldees, friends.
- 21:27And you can see that he would have had Abraham, would have had
- 21:31all the history from Adam to Noah.
- 21:37And that is how we can know that we know that we know that we
- 21:39know that the Bible is trustworthy and true.
- 21:43It's infallible and inerrant, friends.
- 21:45And the more layers you keep pulling back, the more it
- 21:49reveals itself to you. And God wrote us a beautiful
- 21:52love letter in these ten names. And he was spelling out Jesus.
- 21:58He is the Messiah, the Christ. He is the anointed 1.
- 22:03He is our salvation. Friends, put your faith in the
- 22:06Lord Jesus Christ and you'll never be put to shame.
- 22:10I pray that you've been blessed by this amazing chapter in God's
- 22:13Word. I know I sure have.
- 22:15I'm praying for every single one of you.
- 22:19I pray that the Spirit of God indwells you and that you know
- 22:23that you are loved. Stay prayed up today.
- 22:33Blessings on you. We'll see you back here
- 22:36tomorrow. God bless you.
