Transcript
- 0:00Hello everyone and welcome to the Kenny Wallace Show brought
- 0:04to you by Jags, the leader in high performance aftermarket car
- 0:09parts. Remember to go to jags.com.
- 0:13Well today we're in the shop and I am going to put a new newer
- 0:18radiator in our new dirt car. So when we put the car together,
- 0:25my radiator company had been bought out and there was a lull,
- 0:32meaning they weren't building radiators for a little bit.
- 0:35Well, I needed my radiator because my radiator fit better
- 0:39in my car. So we have the new radiators in
- 0:43now, and we're going to change the radiator and I'm going to
- 0:47have you all follow along with me, you know, How do you change
- 0:51your radiator? You know, not everybody knows
- 0:54how to do it. We're going to take it out.
- 0:56We're going to put a new one in. We're going to save the
- 0:58antifreeze. We're going to show you how to
- 1:00properly fill it up and and and bleed the air up out so you
- 1:06don't get any air pockets. So before we do this, you're
- 1:09saying to yourself, Kenny Wallace, the guy on TV, 30
- 1:16seconds of history. So a lot of you know me by TV,
- 1:20right? Or NASCAR race car.
- 1:24As you see here, we we won nine NASCAR Xfinity races.
- 1:30Obviously there's only 6 pictures there.
- 1:32Then you see me on Fox TV and and FOX TV found me.
- 1:37OK, so we did that for 14 years. Now when you come down here, my
- 1:43history, my history, I am really a fabricator mechanic.
- 1:48This is 1984. This is me.
- 1:52I'm the crew chief on the Levi Garrett car that was a smokeless
- 1:56tobacco. This is the Daytona 500.
- 1:59So that's me and I'm changing the right front tire.
- 2:04However, I'm a fabricator mechanic first.
- 2:08I didn't start driving a race car till I was 22 years old.
- 2:13Wow, late bloomer. I'm like, damn it, let me drive.
- 2:17So we are going to go over here and we're going to put a new
- 2:22radiator in this car and I thought I'd show you a little
- 2:26history and how we got here. So now you know a little bit
- 2:29more about me and follow along. Well, the first thing we're
- 2:33going to do is we are going to drain the radiator, get all the
- 2:40antifreeze out. Now listen, a lot of people say
- 2:43why do you run antifreeze? Well, it's winter.
- 2:46And then also the other big deal is that we know that antifreeze
- 2:52is a coolant, right? So antifreeze does two things.
- 2:56It keeps your motor from freezing up during the winter,
- 3:02which is most popular. But antifreeze also is a
- 3:05coolant. It cools your motor down during
- 3:09the summer and it also keeps the block from rusting up.
- 3:13So this is a metal block, so you always want to run some type of
- 3:18coolant, some type of synthetic, you know, cool it through the
- 3:23through the block to keep it from rusting up.
- 3:26So this is a this is a pretty messy job and I got the radiator
- 3:37hoses exactly where I want them. All right, so here we go.
- 3:48And this is no fun, but I got a really big, really big barrel
- 3:54down there, so I am OK, here we go.
- 3:58Now I don't go nuts all at once. Follow along here.
- 4:01I barely no watch. So what I do is I I keep my hand
- 4:10on the hose because if you pull it off and it come flying out
- 4:14the side of the car. So I like to take my radiator
- 4:20hose loose at the radiator pump. What I just did was I took the
- 4:27radiator cap off. I forgot to take the radiator
- 4:29cap off. Take the radiator cap off when
- 4:32you're draining. That way it will breathe and it
- 4:35will come out quicker. I made sure everything was clean
- 4:44because I'm going to reuse. I'm going to reuse this new, new
- 4:48antifreeze. Sometimes everything in life is
- 4:51not perfect. And so, yeah, all right, looking
- 5:01good here. Now we're getting getting the
- 5:06water out of the radiator itself.
- 5:09I'm turning the hose. All right, Looking good.
- 5:17So I've got some of the, we've got some of that off of there.
- 5:21We're going to go ahead and take this hose all the way off
- 5:25because it's got to come off anyway.
- 5:28All right. I really like this hose.
- 5:31It's bent. A lot of people don't see these
- 5:33type of hoses. We get these from parts
- 5:36companies. So, yeah.
- 5:43So you're saying herm, why you changing your radiator?
- 5:45Well, #1 things, just, you know, the packaging things are a
- 5:50little tight there. And when you look over here, you
- 5:58know, just tight on my steering shaft, I don't like that.
- 6:04So yeah, all right, well, we're going to take the radiator out
- 6:15and you can follow along. Watch me do that now.
- 6:18So it's got the radiator cap, get the radiator hose off.
- 6:22We've got a lot of the water drain now.
- 6:25Mind you, I'm not out of the woods yet because this is a
- 6:29messy job. So I got an adjustable an wrench
- 6:33that I really like and going to loosen this radiator hose up.
- 6:42Just taking a loose there. Don't need to.
- 6:46I just. I'm going to.
- 6:47We're not in a hurry. So you know, Earnhardt's my man.
- 6:54He's not yours. Oh man, I sure do Miss
- 6:59Earnhardt. The fans, they loved him so
- 7:02much. They'd get all having a good
- 7:05time and they'd say Earnhardt's my man and I'd tease with him
- 7:09back. I said he's no, he's not.
- 7:11He's mine. So Earnhardt could do all this.
- 7:16Dale Senior was a fabricator mechanic.
- 7:18I. Whoa, there we go.
- 7:20Just as I said. Oh, my God, Herman, what a
- 7:24disaster. Oh, remember, you got
- 7:27antifreeze. You got water in there.
- 7:29So let me go get a towel already.
- 7:32I didn't load higher. I don't like any messes, so we
- 7:44will take any type of mess here. We'll definitely clean it up and
- 7:49we'll we'll also take a mop bucket and we'll mop anything up
- 7:55that we have to. OK Need a pair of tin snips?
- 7:59Got that radiator hose right there.
- 8:01Little little overflow hose. All right.
- 8:06So we get that little little hose off.
- 8:11See if we can get that baby. Woo.
- 8:15That bitch is on there. I'm on.
- 8:17Herman. You can't cuss.
- 8:19I didn't get off. Little screwdriver.
- 8:25Maybe right in here. When things are new, boy, they
- 8:33they hold on for dear life. Come on, Herman.
- 8:39Jesus. All right, we getting there.
- 8:42Simmer bound. Simmer bound.
- 8:44With no hurry. There's nobody in.
- 8:47The grandstand's watching us. There's no competition.
- 8:51Take it easy, Herman. Well, that baby had a nice
- 8:54little little dealy there, so. All right.
- 9:00And now you're going to be amazed how it's almost ready to
- 9:04come out. So I use an impact sometimes to
- 9:11take everything off. OK, so this car is built by Nick
- 9:17Hoffman. I love his packaging.
- 9:20It's very easy. This is a Joe's racing.
- 9:24Joe's Racing radiator holder. I know you got one.
- 9:27Just like it. Calm down.
- 9:31I do that too. I get it.
- 9:36All right, now we're going to you know what?
- 9:43Sometimes I don't like to use a impact, just feel like I'm
- 9:46beating the hell out of everything.
- 9:50Sometimes I like to loosen it up with the wrench because the
- 9:53wrench, you really get it on with the wrench and you can feel
- 9:57it. Sometimes you use impact, you'll
- 9:58strip things out. I know how to work an impact.
- 10:02I know. OK, tell you a quick story.
- 10:05Had a buddy of mine, said Herman.
- 10:07I I got control of my impact. Went down to use the impact on a
- 10:12bead lock. Went to run it down.
- 10:14He goes, I got control of my impact.
- 10:16I know. Boom.
- 10:17Broke the bolt right off. I just looked at him.
- 10:19I'm like dummy people. Ego.
- 10:22Ego gets the best of us. I don't have an ego.
- 10:26I have a little one. So this is the the shield and
- 10:32the reason we have one of these. I'm going to show you because
- 10:39you see, that's the radiator fan blade, right?
- 10:42So there's the fan blade. So that shield keeps everything
- 10:47safe, right? You know, they just, you have
- 10:51that that nice thick little piece of aluminum.
- 10:54It keeps everything from, you know, flying up in air at you.
- 10:59All right, So now we are going to literally lift the radiator
- 11:05up and out. OK, here we go.
- 11:08Ready. Herman, I take a radiator out.
- 11:11Why am I watching this? Well, because we just we're
- 11:14doing it. Some people don't know.
- 11:19I like having fun with the racers.
- 11:23All right, got that? Damn antifreeze.
- 11:26Here, let me show you what you got going on underneath.
- 11:28Here. Let me show you.
- 11:32OK. So when you look underneath
- 11:39here, it's like what do you got going on there, Herman?
- 11:43Let me show. Y'all.
- 11:45All right. See that?
- 11:49I got one of those buckets that is that is the bottom of a 55
- 11:53gallon drum and it's really clean.
- 11:55OK. So Billy Smith did that for me.
- 12:00So that is the Bock that is the bottom of a 55 gallon plastic
- 12:04drum. Look here.
- 12:07So you see it. But I made sure it was really
- 12:10clean. And boy, that that really helps
- 12:12me. So get yourself one of those.
- 12:17All right. Got the trailer in the shop.
- 12:22There's the radiator. There's the new one.
- 12:24I like it better. I'll show you why later on.
- 12:28All right. Herman, the herminator in the
- 12:32house. He is not a mouse.
- 12:37All right, make sure we have everything right set up here.
- 12:43Watch old herminator take the radiator out.
- 12:48Oh, looky here. We doing a we doing a show on.
- 12:52Taking the radiator out. Replacing the radiator.
- 12:55OK I. Got you.
- 12:56What you doing come? And see you.
- 12:59I'm on. I heard you talking.
- 13:00You heard me talking. Yep.
- 13:02OK, so all right, let's get this radiator out.
- 13:08We got the antifreeze out the best we could.
- 13:12This is always a disaster. We did our best.
- 13:16I'm going to go ahead and put this in the bottom hole and
- 13:25should come right out easily. We'll see.
- 13:28Oh, I feel the water in it. OK and looky there Brody.
- 13:36Go ahead and work the tripod while you're here.
- 13:39Just move it along. You don't got to do nothing.
- 13:41So we're going to we're going to show you something.
- 13:47So I I've never, I've never done this in my life.
- 13:53The the good mechanics they save their antifreeze.
- 13:57I'm like, but since all I did was start the car up right now,
- 14:02what we're going to do because we're going to oh, it's already
- 14:08still There we go. We're going to use the
- 14:17antifreeze over. We're going to save a little
- 14:21money here. We're going to save a little
- 14:24money. Race fans, brand new radiator.
- 14:31Whoever wants to buy this radiator from me, just call Kim
- 14:38Seven O 4506. No, that's my number.
- 14:43Jesus. Call Kim 704-361-7116.
- 14:51It's brand new radiator, so we don't have to sell it.
- 14:57We just thought we might. All right, so we got that baby
- 15:04now, Brody. Let's show them.
- 15:05Here we got. I cleaned this so it's it's
- 15:10clean. OK.
- 15:13Oh, that was close. Not a bad mess underneath here.
- 15:19So all right we're just going to.
- 15:24I got a little I'm a little anal.
- 15:26So I'm going to, I'm going to grab a wrench.
- 15:35Let me tell you what happened here.
- 15:38We had the radiator in and then we realized we our spacing was
- 15:41off. So I put the fan blade on with
- 15:44the radiator in because we changed our spacing.
- 15:48So I'm just checking. I'm checking my bolts because
- 15:54I'm anal like that meaning that I always thinking, so they're
- 15:59very nice, very tight. Where is the spacer, Brody, if
- 16:04you just want to show them the spacer, this is our Can they see
- 16:07that? Here's the fan blade spacer.
- 16:10All right now for the fun. Now for the fun.
- 16:17We're going to put the the new one in.
- 16:20I'm still I'm still wiping up, man.
- 16:27This is like anti seize. It's like that little thing.
- 16:32And Auntie sees goes everywhere. So same thing with this.
- 16:35All right, bro, let's turn this around.
- 16:39You can stay right there. Thank you.
- 16:41See you, Brody didn't come. I didn't have to work at all.
- 16:44All right, so we got this radiator here.
- 16:48You stay right there, Brody. Oh, trouble.
- 16:54All right, let's go right here. Go right here.
- 17:03All right, so it comes packed. Very nice.
- 17:09All right, so I saved my boxes. All right, here's the radiator.
- 17:20So what I'm going to do is I'm going to mark something, follow
- 17:27along. So this radiator is actually, I
- 17:31mean, let's go look at it. Come on.
- 17:35So Brody, show them the difference and everything.
- 17:38Let's go. Let's go.
- 17:40Everything. Look, look at this.
- 17:41OK, so see. See.
- 17:45Look at the. Look at the difference.
- 17:46See how big this tank is. See how much smaller this tank
- 17:49is? It's a big OS tank, this smaller
- 17:53tank, this, yeah, this radiator is just smaller, you know, you
- 18:04know, just in every way and and and this is the radiator that
- 18:09I've always run. So what we're going to do is we
- 18:13do a little safeties. See this.
- 18:17That's in case you can get over here Brody.
- 18:20Look, let's let's let's go on over this way.
- 18:25So we're going to make sure it's not a big deal, but we're going
- 18:28to make sure that we protect the radiator.
- 18:33So, OK, see my 8 frame bolt right here, Brody.
- 18:38See my 8 frame bolt here, right here.
- 18:40So we're just going to mark this and that's what we're going to
- 18:44do. We're going to protect that area
- 18:45right there. So we know what we're going to
- 18:50do is we're going to steal the rubber off of that other one.
- 18:53So you know, you go, you know, if the radiator would ever slide
- 18:56over a little bit, we don't want that bolt puncturing at it.
- 19:01So we're going to steal, we're going to steal something.
- 19:09You just always follow me, Brody.
- 19:13So go steal this Let me go get some tire wraps.
- 19:31What you been up to, Brody? Getting ready for Thanksgiving.
- 19:35Setting tables up, putting tablecloths on, changing baby's
- 19:39butt. They're holding Thanksgiving for
- 19:41us and the other side of the shop.
- 19:43So what we do. This is basically a radiator
- 19:48hose cut in half. And what we're going to do is we
- 19:52are going to use this right here, like that.
- 19:56Pretty cool, huh? And what I do is I go through, I
- 20:03don't know if you want to get close up, bro.
- 20:05You see, you can go, as you can tell, the tie rack, you can go
- 20:09through the fins right here. And yeah, it's pretty nice.
- 20:15So then I just go ahead, I'm going to.
- 20:17I already marked it that way. I know where it's at.
- 20:25OK, I'm going to put it right underneath that Weld.
- 20:30OK? I like everything to be straight
- 20:34because I'm anal like that. All right, So that's tight.
- 20:41Do another one. One more.
- 20:50You want the Fast forward, ain't you?
- 20:52You guys going to try to Fast forward through my video?
- 20:56You might miss something. Come on just a little bit right
- 21:03there. Sliding it down just a little
- 21:05bit. That way I grab everything,
- 21:08right? All right.
- 21:09See. I'm happy with that.
- 21:13Looks good. OK.
- 21:16All right. Get that.
- 21:19OK. Very tight.
- 21:21OK, I like that. OK, now we don't like getting
- 21:26our hands cut. OK, that's flush.
- 21:34All right, let's take everything off here.
- 21:40Come on, Herman. Get it out.
- 21:44All right. Come on, Herman.
- 21:50I'll never believe it. Take him.
- 21:52I could already have that done. That's my I create characters.
- 21:58So I got some friends down South and instead of saying not, they
- 22:05said not so like, you know, not. They go.
- 22:11I'm not believe. All right.
- 22:15All right, Brody, you can stay on the passenger side there.
- 22:21They're going to watch us put this baby in.
- 22:25All right, We are ready to go in.
- 22:28So right there we're going in. Very nice.
- 22:38OK, Sitting on here. OK, Right there.
- 22:47Feels good right there. So we are going to put this on.
- 22:55Turn it around, Herman. It's right in there.
- 22:59Real nice. We are going to put it.
- 23:05Does it look good, Brody? Is the camera lined up real
- 23:07nice? Can you all see what I'm doing?
- 23:09Just putting everything back. I know.
- 23:14I get it. You're better than me.
- 23:16And it's harder to put a passenger car radiator in.
- 23:19I get all that. I'm just doing this for fun.
- 23:22We already know you're better than me.
- 23:25So you got to ask yourself, why are you watching this?
- 23:28Let's see how dumb I am. Because you're better than me.
- 23:33That's a comedy we do because I get teased a lot because I was a
- 23:37NASCAR driver. Hey, Wallace, why you run dirt
- 23:40cars when you was a NASCAR driver?
- 23:43You trying to fit in with us? No.
- 23:45I'm racing your ass. So all right.
- 23:52So now that we go together I like, remember, I know.
- 23:57Oh, I know how to control my impact.
- 23:59Yeah, sure you do While you break your bolts off.
- 24:03I've already seen that. So we're pushing down on the
- 24:06Joe's radiator mount. We're pushing down.
- 24:08We're holding down. Make sure we've got AI like
- 24:11using a little 7 sixteenths ratchet.
- 24:14A ratchet ring. So yeah, so make sure I'm doing,
- 24:23you think Brittany's wondering where the hell you're at, You
- 24:25came over here, I'm going to go say hi to Herman.
- 24:28And then all of a sudden, that's her going.
- 24:30Where are you at? Yeah, I just got a text message.
- 24:33Where are you at? What are you doing?
- 24:34Come back over here. Help me with the baby.
- 24:36Where are you, say, helping your dad finish the video?
- 24:39Be back over here in just a minute.
- 24:42I don't like you going over there with him because you never
- 24:44come back tight. Pushing down on the mount as I
- 24:57do it. Tight.
- 25:04OK. Very nice.
- 25:07OK. Very nice.
- 25:10Wow. So, so much nicer.
- 25:13So much more room. Yeah.
- 25:16Oh yeah. Everything looks so much better.
- 25:22So, Oh my God, so much, so much more room.
- 25:25It's unreal. Just it's it's insane.
- 25:28Not much more room. So we're going to hook our hose
- 25:31up. There we go.
- 25:33Let me grab another tie wrap. So, all right, we're putting the
- 25:47tie wrap on just because I'm over here, all right?
- 25:58So when I put a tie wrap on, I do like to grab it and even pull
- 26:03it more. So I pull it more, rotate it
- 26:07down. We like to hide those, so don't
- 26:10cut our hands on, but ours are clean.
- 26:13We like to cut them flush. Now, what we're going to do now
- 26:19is we're going to tighten these, tighten this.
- 26:30Come on, Herman. You know what it'll go like
- 26:35this. Oh, that's 1/2 inch.
- 26:40OK, just a little bit. Now we're going to tighten it.
- 26:54So for you real racers that are making fun of me right now, this
- 26:59is not for you, but you're watching.
- 27:04OK, so very nice. OK, so Brody, come on over here.
- 27:12Let's show them where the rubber is lined up at.
- 27:19Just kind of go around in there and show them what I did with
- 27:21the rubber. So you see right here.
- 27:24That's just in case. Hey, as old Uncle Rusty says,
- 27:30better safe than sorry. OK, now we are going to put the
- 27:37lower radiator hose on. Now I'm really anal about my
- 27:40hose clamps. Wallace is bleeding here.
- 27:45This will be a thumbnail. Do you all do this?
- 27:56It was grease. Oh, my.
- 28:05Oh, now I got antifreeze in my mouth.
- 28:08No, I don't. OK, all right, so we are going
- 28:16to make sure we got the radiator hoses right.
- 28:20OK, so here we go. All right, we are putting this
- 28:28on. We're twisting it properly.
- 28:33We're getting it, right? OK, OK, here we go.
- 28:44All right, now one thing I like to do is come here on this right
- 28:51here. See these?
- 28:55See this nipple right here? See that nipple right there?
- 28:59It's a nipple. All right, so everybody does it.
- 29:04I'm just showing the people that don't know.
- 29:07I want to make sure that when I put this first hose clamp on
- 29:11down here, that it is I'm feeling.
- 29:15I want to make sure. All right, I feel good about
- 29:18this. So now I got the radiator hose
- 29:22right on the other side of that nipple, so it seals up good.
- 29:27These are little idiosyncrasies that mechanics use that they
- 29:31don't talk about. All right, so I'm tightening the
- 29:39hell out of it. Get yourself good hose clamps.
- 29:43Go to a real parts store. Real hose clamps, not junky
- 29:48ones. There's good hose clamps and
- 29:50there's bad hose clamps. So, all right, very nice.
- 30:00Very nice. So putting 2 down here, because
- 30:09I put 2 down here because I'm a freak, I just feel like down
- 30:15here on the aluminium, the smooth aluminum.
- 30:18I like to put two on the smooth aluminum.
- 30:27All right, Brody, let's show them that.
- 30:29Got a good look at that. I feel good about them.
- 30:34They're tight. Now, here we go to this one.
- 30:37So for this one, you know, this is kind of roughed up.
- 30:41You know, it's going to grip. So I'm going to, you can see it.
- 30:44OK. Now what I'm going to do is I'm
- 30:46going to really zone in on that. I'm going to feel it.
- 30:50So I feel it. It's right there.
- 30:54I can feel that nipple. OK.
- 31:00Really. Making sure that is on the side
- 31:06of that nipple that I like. OK, there we go.
- 31:19Get that baby tight. Oh, see that?
- 31:22See how it's popping up there? That tells you that you you've
- 31:25done a good job. OK, Looking good.
- 31:36Tight. All right.
- 31:39Tight. Tight.
- 31:41I feel good about it. OK, so everything's tight.
- 31:46I'd say this to myself. Remember my, my quick change
- 31:49videos When you know, tight, tight.
- 31:54Oh, got a little more out of that one.
- 31:56Tight. tight. OK, going to go grab a lot of
- 32:10ante sees. Oh boy.
- 32:13Just because you know aluminum on aluminum can get a little
- 32:17junky. So if I just put a little hunk
- 32:20of Ante Sees right there, it'll last two years.
- 32:23So there goes Brody, I'm going to go to the ante sees
- 32:27department. This is our fabrication area, RR
- 32:31that would be compound grease where you're going to grab,
- 32:35We're going to grab that stuff, right?
- 32:38Yeah, yeah. Right there.
- 32:40That's the lubrication area. Let me see, Brody.
- 32:44All right, watch out. This stuff will go cut your
- 32:49mouth just a little ante sees. What this stuff does is it keeps
- 32:54when you're going aluminum on aluminum, aluminum on aluminum
- 32:57will galled up. So you just take a little bit of
- 33:00this stuff. Come on.
- 33:08By the way, a shout out to Brody.
- 33:09He's building go karts now. This is one of the very first Go
- 33:13karts. He's really good at it.
- 33:15He's so good that he's using the the wooden jigs because he's
- 33:21performing. He's making wings.
- 33:23So shout out to Brody behind the camera.
- 33:26He's better than me. Not quite.
- 33:30I always say that to calm people.
- 33:32Now everybody's always in a damn egotistic war.
- 33:35All right here. This is kind of nasty here.
- 33:37So. All right, look.
- 33:40So it's always kind of junky. It's like this with everybody.
- 33:45It ain't like you use a lot of NE CS.
- 33:47OK, maybe. You know, big truck mechanics do
- 33:52not. Not us racers.
- 33:53We use a little bit. So come here.
- 33:56So what we're going to do is you're going to just do the
- 33:57little pop right here. See that?
- 34:00Just a little pop there. Just a little pop here.
- 34:04All right. That's all you need because the
- 34:08stuff will go gangster on you. All right.
- 34:11So we're going to go ahead and it's still coming out.
- 34:17Look at that. My God.
- 34:21All right. So I had to spread.
- 34:28I wanted to spread the antecedes out a little bit, so now it's on
- 34:31my hands. Lick your finger.
- 34:33We're not. Yeah, we're not editing nothing,
- 34:36because this is real mechanicism.
- 34:38You know when you go on YouTube and they show you go, how do I
- 34:41put a shower head on? They edit stuff up.
- 34:44They don't show you dropping the hell out of everything.
- 34:47Terminator. Don't do that here.
- 34:48I'm man of the people. Come on, kick it back.
- 34:55All right, so here we go, putting this baby on eight days
- 35:08a week. All right?
- 35:12Is bro Is Brittany mad at you? No, I'm over there with your
- 35:17dad. He's making me do this.
- 35:18Yeah, getting paid by the hour. Yeah, getting paid by the hour.
- 35:22I'll pay. We pay minimum wage.
- 35:25What is minimum wage now, $100.00 an hour?
- 35:28Yeah. 20 hour work week. Well, my God, I only want to
- 35:32work four days. Hey, I'll put in 410 hours.
- 35:36Calm down. We're having fun.
- 35:38I know somebody out there pissed.
- 35:40All right, So. Oh, yeah, look at that.
- 35:44Very nice, Very nice. All right, so we're going to.
- 35:48We got that right there. Tightness.
- 35:51OK, so we're going to tighten this.
- 35:57Oh, that baby turns. I didn't really notice that.
- 36:03OK, OK, so now remember earlier when we started this video?
- 36:12Come look how much more room there is.
- 36:13Now look at this. Remember that?
- 36:18That was touching that before. These cars are made for this
- 36:22radiator. All right, now the trick to all
- 36:27this. All right, hang with me for a
- 36:32while. This is going to be a disaster.
- 36:37Stay right there, bro. Hey, days a week.
- 36:51All right, So what we're going to do is we are going to pour
- 36:57that antifreeze into these so we can pour it in there.
- 37:02I just got plain water in these eight days a week.
- 37:13I like my wash station. Got a kick ass wash station
- 37:16right here and I keep it clean. It ain't like those other shops
- 37:19where and never clean up. I figure if you're washing your
- 37:22hands, you might as well wash your station.
- 37:25Hey, I can make my shop messy if I want like my hairs.
- 37:31Hello. Hey, hey, Louie.
- 37:41Hey, you know what, buddy? Come here for a minute.
- 37:50I got an idea. Let's just clean this up.
- 37:53Let's just clean this up. We'll put all the antifreeze in
- 37:56this one and we'll go right in the funnel.
- 37:59So I like safety clean, Safety clean.
- 38:05Got good stuff. Safety clean.
- 38:08All right. So what we're going to do, we
- 38:12got a little bit of residue of oil in my oil one.
- 38:26We might have Charlie edit some of this stuff up, but I don't
- 38:29know, it's all pretty good. All right.
- 38:33I like that. Very clean, Very clean.
- 38:39All right. Thank you, Brody.
- 38:43Hear the dogs barking next door. I spend the next, next day
- 38:49cleaning up. I'm OK.
- 38:53All right. Any of you change your radiator,
- 38:55not spill a drop of water? You you going to spill some
- 38:59water? See me?
- 39:03See, I like everything perfectly clean.
- 39:05But what we're going to do, we're going to go over and make
- 39:08sure we're going to turn the hot water on, and we're going to
- 39:11make sure we get all this out just because.
- 39:15All right. Thank you.
- 39:15Brody. How do you save antifreeze?
- 39:20Hey, admitted. How many of you are out doing
- 39:24this on the gravel driveway, right.
- 39:28All right, so we're going to turn the hot water on, because
- 39:34the hot water really will get safe.
- 39:38We'll get the what do we call that stuff?
- 39:41I forgot. Solvent.
- 39:43Solvent. I knew that I had brain pain.
- 39:46Mark Martin told me that word. I feel like a little coffee
- 39:51right now. Brody's on his phone, so when he
- 39:55gets off there, he'll all right, let's go drink a sip of coffee
- 39:59while the water gets hot. We got we got little projects
- 40:07going on around here. Got my shots being sent back to
- 40:11Algar. Come here, Brody.
- 40:13Show them that once Thanksgiving gets over.
- 40:18So. I got my shocks.
- 40:20What happens with shocks? You you put new oil in them, new
- 40:23seals. Get them ready for the new year.
- 40:25Because, you know, I only ran 35 races last year, but still, 35
- 40:31races. Might as well start the year out
- 40:33new. All right, Let me just want to
- 40:35show that coffee, OK. Hey, Wallace.
- 40:39What What kind of coffee you got there?
- 40:40I get that's number one question.
- 40:42So it's what is it? Country.
- 40:44I don't know. Hazelnut Creamer?
- 40:46Yeah, still lukewarm. Got my notes.
- 40:58See if there's anything on here I don't want you to see.
- 41:01Yeah, So what I do is I make notes.
- 41:04New radiator, pull bar, shock glue for strap valve cover,
- 41:09windshield just a little. It's a little visor like so.
- 41:14And I mark all this off. It's fun.
- 41:17Schrader taught me that. He's he's a freak with markdown
- 41:21stuff. You know, Schrader writes
- 41:22everything down. He taught me that.
- 41:26All right, we got hot water. Hot water really gets rid of
- 41:32everything, like, you know, like your dishwasher.
- 41:36So we're doing this that way. We don't got no solvent residue,
- 41:55remember? We're putting a lot of work in
- 41:56this because we're we're saving money on antifreeze.
- 42:01Jesus, I've never done this in my life.
- 42:03I know you have. I get it.
- 42:05You're better than me. All right, So look at that.
- 42:09That baby is nice. All right, so I am going to pour
- 42:16the antifreeze in there. Keep the camera rolling in case
- 42:22I mess up. Look at that fresh antifreeze.
- 42:33How much are these gallon jugs of antifreeze?
- 42:35Brody I. Don't know you bought them.
- 42:37How much money you think I saved here?
- 42:39I don't know what, like 20 bucks maybe.
- 42:43Shoot, I don't know, $20. I might be able to go to lunch
- 42:46on that. You can get a coffee, all right.
- 42:49Where is my? Where's the funnel at?
- 42:58The blue funnel. Yeah, right side.
- 43:01You took it with you down there. Where'd I go?
- 43:03Toolbox. Right side.
- 43:04Oh, yeah. You took it with us.
- 43:06So I have I have two of these in in
- 43:21in the rare it's ugly head here pretty soon.
- 43:22All right buddy. Let's get settled in now.
- 43:26So this is what I really this whole deal come around here,
- 43:31Brody. Right here.
- 43:32So look here. All right.
- 43:35We are going to fill the water up.
- 43:40We want the water like a tub. We want it to fill up.
- 43:44It's constantly pushing air out. And then the air, the air is
- 43:48going to come out of this. And when we see that there that
- 43:51we know that we have purged, it blew all the air out.
- 43:56Now we're good. So let's let's see, let's see
- 44:00how ugly this gets. Drum roll, please. 8 days of the
- 44:09week. Feels nice and warm.
- 44:13All right, Brody, if you want to go anywhere you want to go,
- 44:16let's show it going in and everything.
- 44:18OK, Well, I am comfortable. I got my hand rested this.
- 44:26So this radiator is not going to take as much water because it's
- 44:30a little smaller. But this radiator still cools
- 44:33really good because this is the this is the radiator I've been
- 44:36running for the last three years.
- 44:39So you know, I mean, I'm just putting the same type of
- 44:41radiator back in. It's sufficient.
- 44:45Plus I don't got all that weight up on the nose.
- 44:48That's that's a big deal. I don't, I don't like a big ass
- 44:51radiator up here. You know when the car is already
- 44:55running cool with a little radiator.
- 44:58Why have all that weight up here when you don't need it?
- 45:01We run A6 blade fan, so A6 blade fan, but this radiator seems to
- 45:09work real good. Now I got my eye on bro, do you
- 45:12want to point that out on the water neck?
- 45:14I got my eye on there. I'm looking, I'm watching, so
- 45:23I'm watching. So there, There's a lot of water
- 45:26in the motor because we didn't drain the water out of there.
- 45:29So we know there's it's not going to take as much water
- 45:37eight days a week. I I get these ticks.
- 45:43I just sing. I like to sing.
- 45:46Keeps me, I entertain myself. I'm just going to look better
- 45:55safe than sorry. Oh, there it is.
- 45:58Whoa. Did we get lucky?
- 45:59Brody, take the camera. Like, I mean go right in that
- 46:02neck just do your very best. Do you see see that water?
- 46:08OK. There you go.
- 46:09So so that that's how you bleed a system just that simple your
- 46:14your your water you're going all the way up.
- 46:16So I mean yeah, it's there I I just got lucky.
- 46:25OK. So we're going to keep this
- 46:28because we are going to start the motor up and.
- 46:33OK, so we're going to grab our wrench.
- 46:39Grab our wrench, OK, So right here we're going to put the neck
- 46:50on. So a lot of people are going to
- 46:59say, hey Wallace, you got all that NASCAR money.
- 47:02Why are you running this, these really nice radiator hoses and I
- 47:07think it's a Peace of Mind right?
- 47:08So I watched Steve Arpin down at Volusia just barely have the
- 47:14upper radiator hose on wrong. You know the the normal ones and
- 47:18boom and and burnt him scalding him up.
- 47:21So I called, I called Bobby Labonte and a shout out to
- 47:25Bobby. Bobby really paid it forward and
- 47:29you know Bobby ended up starting Longhorn.
- 47:32But anyway, crazy story, right? So Bobby Labonte put Steve Arpit
- 47:37on his jet. Bobby Labonte had a jet.
- 47:40Steve Arpin is scalded. Daytona is saying we've done all
- 47:45we can do. Now you need to go up to
- 47:46Rochester, MN, maybe the Mayo Burn Clinic.
- 47:50Bobby Labonte put Steve Arpin on his jet, flies him up there,
- 47:55right and and Steve's good to go now.
- 47:58But isn't it funny that Bobby Labonte started Longhorn?
- 48:03And now guess who owns Longhorn? That's right, Steve Arpin.
- 48:07What a story, huh? Didn't even think I was going to
- 48:09say that story. But Bobby's a a good person.
- 48:13And we're buddies. We talk a lot.
- 48:16All right, let's finish this up, Herman.
- 48:19OK. All right.
- 48:20So I'm talking to myself. Tight, Tight.
- 48:27Tight. Tight.
- 48:32Tight. OK, Tight, tight.
- 48:42All right. So I decided let's keep the
- 48:48video rolling. We will start it up.
- 48:50We'll just go all in and we'll do it.
- 48:54So Brody's going to go get the fuel.
- 49:01I'm going to warn you, this can be ugly because my fuel system
- 49:07drains out. It works on the vacuum, so we're
- 49:08going to have to prime it up. It might fart and pop a little
- 49:13bit. It's right here for my let me
- 49:22get that half inch. So another funny thing, you know
- 49:30how a lot of people put a little a little keyway right here?
- 49:34You know how a lot of people taking put like a, you know, a
- 49:38little what do you call those things?
- 49:41Yeah, some people put a little Cotter pin there.
- 49:43I saw Mike Harrison do this. So I thought, I'm going to copy
- 49:46that. I like that.
- 49:47You know why? Because it's not like you take
- 49:51the air cleaner off every time you come in.
- 49:54Nine times out of 10, if you're a local racer, you're going to
- 49:56show up at the race track with that baby on.
- 49:58You're going to take it off, start the motor and that's it.
- 50:01So I am copying. I am copying Mike there because
- 50:05I do like the half lock nut. So it's a half size, half
- 50:11elastic nut. OK, so that's the reason I did
- 50:15that. I see Mike do it.
- 50:16And I thought, you know, I like that damn Darrell Hoffman.
- 50:21Man's got, man's got. Jesus.
- 50:26OK, let's get a little talented thinking.
- 50:32Grab. Get the best of you.
- 50:35All right, There we go. So I am nervous.
- 50:42We're all nervous. Nobody likes starting the motor.
- 50:45Nobody likes starting the motor. Be honest.
- 50:48If you're a motor man, you just got like Darrell, Darrell
- 50:51Hoffman saying, come on, let's just get it.
- 50:52Let's let's get it. You like you get attacked.
- 50:54The motor. Me.
- 50:56I'm scared of this damn thing 24/7.
- 50:59OK, So what we're going to do is we are going to so that the
- 51:07fuel, the fuel is gone. It went back in there.
- 51:10So what we got to do is we got to prime it.
- 51:12This is fuel. We're going to put them in the
- 51:14the Venturi's all right. So we're filling this baby up.
- 51:22It hasn't been started. When was the last time we
- 51:24started this one time? Yeah, down there.
- 51:27Down there. Which, what, a week ago.
- 51:29Yeah. So it's empty.
- 51:33OK, I'm just going to make sure this baby's filled up, so I'm
- 51:42going to pump it. Watch this.
- 51:45OK, now what I do is I spin it over a little bit and there's
- 51:48the reason for me. If any fuel runs down the
- 51:52runners in the heads and the fuel gets on top of the Pistons,
- 51:56it could ignite. So I like to spin it over, can
- 52:01get any excess fuel out. So I'm going to do that.
- 52:17OK, now we're going to let it sit for a little bit, but I can
- 52:20see, I can see that I need just a little bit of walk, a little
- 52:25bit of antifreeze in here in the radiator itself.
- 52:43OK, now it's cold outside, but it needs a little more.
- 52:53It's cold outside. But we have Brody and Brittany's
- 52:57baby. This is called a Schaus.
- 52:59This is this is 60 by 130 by 60 is a very nice home.
- 53:05And then there's a neutral area and then the shop.
- 53:09So the shop is 50 by 60. I turn the fans on.
- 53:13I open the doors because I don't want any carbon monoxide
- 53:17disrupting our baby Lyla, four months old, 544.
- 53:22She likes race cars. She likes race cars.
- 53:23She's a Lila race car. OK, here we go.
- 53:39OK, I feel good about it. All right, All right, here we
- 53:47go. Let's see.
- 53:52We are going to start this baby up.
- 53:54See what happens. OK.
- 53:56Here. You ready?
- 53:58Are you all ready? Damn it.
- 54:00OK, let's go. I turn the Iowa,
- 57:44OK, people say I'm insane. I am that close to being ready
- 57:52to race in April. My race car is ready to race in
- 57:56April. I want to enjoy my winter with
- 58:00my family, so that's the reason I work the way I work.
- 58:05Make a list, Make a list. Challenge yourself to get that
- 58:10list done. My car is is going to be ready
- 58:14to go four months early because I don't like to take anything to
- 58:20an end. So we're going to thrill.
- 58:24You got to have a coffee. So we're going to go ahead, shut
- 58:27the motor off. Oh, hey, Kaye Camber.
- 58:30Fine. We're going to finish it up real
- 58:31quick. Look at Clay.
- 58:39Fine, let's shut this motor off. I feel good about it,
- 59:22All right? So I hope you all enjoyed that.
- 59:28I sure did. It was painful to do that and,
- 59:32you know, make a Kenny Wallace show out of it.
- 59:36So we feel like we're good now for the winter.
- 59:38We keep the heat on here at about 60°.
- 59:41We protect all our equipment during the winter, our tires,
- 59:45things like that. We don't let everything get down
- 59:47in the 30s. Cold weather can ruin new tires,
- 59:52is what Mike Algar taught me from Hoosiers.
- 59:55So we like to keep our tires warm during the winter.
- 1:00:01So we'll do that, you know? We'll we'll keep everything warm
- 1:00:07during the winter. And all right, Next up is the
- 1:00:10Dome in Saint Louis. You already know I'm running
- 1:00:12dining jumper's car, driving Nick Coughlin's car at Volusia.
- 1:00:16And then this is my car. We'll get it wrapped.
- 1:00:18It's going to look nice. We've got that nice new jigs,
- 1:00:24jigs, jigs, jigs. I don't know who starred that,
- 1:00:33but it's damn funny. All right, everybody, We're
- 1:00:36going to end like this nice new clean air cleaner.
- 1:00:41We are going to, we will go to the back and we will take the
- 1:00:47black ground cable off the battery.
- 1:00:50We'll put a little towel around it and that's it.
- 1:00:54We're putting the motor to bed for the winter.
- 1:00:57All right, y'all have a great Thanksgiving.
- 1:01:01You have a great New Year's, Have a great Christmas.
- 1:01:05We'll see you at the Dome, we'll see you at Volusia and we'll
- 1:01:07definitely see you at the pit gate starting the 1st of April
- 1:01:12in Peebly Missouri Federated Auto Parts Raceway.
- 1:01:15Goodbye everybody. 01 more thing.
- 1:01:17Remember to like and subscribe please.
