- Dana: The jar shows up. It sparkles like a dream. Then you read the fine print — "for decorative use only." That exact story shows up in review after review in this category. So today I want the shopping answer. Where do you buy the kind you can actually eat? Margaux: Welcome to The Monégasque Table. It's an Ask the Table quick one today — one buyer question, one straight answer, and we're out in a few minutes. Dana: And this week's question is the one I'd be yelling at the podcast. Where can you buy edible glitter that's actually edible? Margaux: Here's the answer up front. The store matters less than the shelf. Genuinely edible glitter is sold as food — an ingredient list on the jar, named color additives, and the word "edible" on the label. If a jar says "non-toxic" or "for decoration only," or lists no ingredients at all, that's decor. Not dessert. Pass that test and you can buy with confidence almost anywhere. Fail it, and the fanciest store in town can't save you. Dana: Okay, but people clearly want a store name. Search data shows about 880 searches a month for exactly "where to buy edible glitter," and around 3,000 a month for edible glitter "near me." People ask by store name — Walmart, Target, Michaels, Hobby Lobby. Margaux: And here's why the store name can't settle it. The same shelf — craft store or baking aisle — can hold truly edible glitter, craft glitter, and display-only shimmer side by side. Same sparkle through the plastic. Completely different fine print. Dana: That feels like a trap for normal people. What's the tell? Margaux: Three checks, maybe 10 seconds. One — the word "edible" on the front, not just "non-toxic." Non-toxic is a crayon word. It means it probably won't hurt you. It does not mean it was made to be food. Two — a real ingredient list with named color additives. If there's no ingredient list, walk away. Category review analyses keep finding the same thing: the biggest trust complaint isn't a scary ingredient, it's a missing ingredient list. In one analysis of about 2,400 category reviews, 9.5% of the negative mentions were someone discovering the glitter they'd bought wasn't edible at all. Dana: After it was on the cake. Margaux: Often after it was on the cake. And three — my favorite, because almost nobody uses it — check where the product lives. On Amazon, genuinely edible glitter sits in the grocery section. Grocery and Gourmet Food, filed next to frosting, icing and decorations. Craft glitter lives over with the craft supplies. It's not a guarantee, but a food category is a lot harder to fake than a sticker. Dana: Huh. So the aisle itself is information. Buy it where the food is. Margaux: Buy it where the food is. That's the whole mantra. Dana: (laughs) The least dramatic shopping chant ever. Okay, skeptic duty. Who should skip the edible stuff entirely? Margaux: Anyone decorating something nobody eats. A display cake for a shop window. A photo shoot. Craft night with the kids — glue and paper, not frosting. Craft glitter is cheaper and photographs exactly the same. Pay for the word "edible" only when somebody's going to swallow the sparkle — and at a birthday party, somebody always does. There's always one kid who licks the frosting first. Dana: There's always one. Usually mine. Margaux: Which is exactly why our own listing spells the line out — unlike craft glitter or "non-toxic" decorative dust made only for display, MONÉGASQUE is truly edible. Ingredient list on the jar, named color additives, sold as food in the grocery category, with over 400,000 orders across the US, Canada and the UK behind it. If you want the jar that already passes all three checks, the MONÉGASQUE Gold 15 gram jar is on Amazon — about 15 dollars, sitting at 4.6 stars. Dana: Bought where the food is. Fine. I'm convinced, which is annoying. Margaux: It happens. Next time at the table, the fun part — the jar's home, now what? How do you use edible glitter in drinks? Which drinks show it off, and how you get that swirl going right as the glass hits the table. Dana: I'm bringing champagne. Strictly for research. Margaux: This show is made with AI-crafted hosts and human-checked facts. See you at the table.
